- 0:00Attaining the levels of humility.
- 0:01And we were told that the way you attain it #1 is to practice.
- 0:06Practice means you take a knock and you're not allowed to
- 0:10destroy your day. You take a situation where
- 0:12you're going to treat you properly and you're OK with it.
- 0:15You accept life. You accept insults.
- 0:17You accept not getting the best seat.
- 0:20You accept being ignored. All these things and you allow
- 0:23them to happen. And you don't get crazy.
- 0:26And when you accept it, that means you're saying to yourself,
- 0:30I don't deserve everything and therefore I'm OK with these
- 0:34things that happen. But it has to be developed, not
- 0:38not slowly and slowly, step by step.
- 0:42Because if a person attempts to attain humility like this, boom,
- 0:48I'm never going to get nervous again.
- 0:49I hate the fact that I get nervous.
- 0:50I'm never going to get upset again.
- 0:52What happens to that person the next day?
- 0:54You get upset again. Why?
- 0:56Because here's how a developing character works.
- 0:58Developing character is, and you need to pull off the Band-Aid,
- 1:02right? And then you need to be really
- 1:05OK with that pain. You can't just say to yourself,
- 1:09I'm not going to care. Why?
- 1:11What mind is telling you not to care?
- 1:14The mind that is embarrassed by the fact that you got insulted
- 1:17again and you got upset again and you got hurt again, that
- 1:21mind is a logical, sane mind, But that mind is happening after
- 1:25the emotion happened, but during the emotion, that mind is not
- 1:29there. So imagine the guy who often
- 1:32gets insulted by these things by getting by, getting
- 1:34disrespected. And then after he gets insulted,
- 1:39after he gets insulted, he then says to himself, I did it again.
- 1:44I got upset again. I'm never going to do it again.
- 1:46Never again. OK, who's telling you that
- 1:49you're sane, settled after the fact?
- 1:53Mine. That doesn't exist.
- 1:54That doesn't count. You're still not addressing the
- 1:56emotion that you'll feel next time you get insulted, right?
- 2:00You're using a hindsight perspective to accept or accept
- 2:05a way of life that isn't really real.
- 2:07You need to figure out how do you get yourself in that emotion
- 2:12and the emotion of being insulted.
- 2:14And it's still not getting insulted.
- 2:16And that's only done step by step, which means as I'm getting
- 2:22disrespected, as I'm walking into a room and they're giving
- 2:26me the back seat, as I'm being hurt, I say to myself, it
- 2:30doesn't feel good, a big deal, doesn't feel good.
- 2:34But there's 1000 reasons why it's happening.
- 2:36And no one did it to me on purpose, right?
- 2:38They tried to plan, they tried to send me a seat.
- 2:40There's no seats left there there we're supposed to.
- 2:43Give people benefit of the doubt.
- 2:45We're supposed to be mature about the scene and look at the
- 2:49whole picture and don't rush to assume I know why they're doing
- 2:53it to me, 'cause I'm nothing, 'cause I I can't afford, 'cause
- 2:56I'm not a big deal and I don't have the money and I'm not a
- 2:58wealthy guy and no one cares. Don't go there.
- 3:01Relax. Let's say it's damaging to you.
- 3:04What they did is damaging, not just for your like to bring you
- 3:10down, but let's say it's a business thing also and it's
- 3:14financially damaging. You still have to look at it the
- 3:17same way. No, their humility doesn't play
- 3:20a role there. You're involving stronger levels
- 3:24of character and saying, do I want to get upset?
- 3:26Do I not want to get upset? Should I let him get away with
- 3:28this? Should I not?
- 3:29Is it? It's not sham anywhere.
- 3:31That's be the horny great character.
- 3:33Humility doesn't play into that because he could be as humble as
- 3:36it gets. He still must you over here, the
- 3:40hurt, the pain, the embarrassment, the bushat,
- 3:44right? These come from be feeling small
- 3:49and if you're humble enough, you don't feel like you were shot
- 3:52down. So it's specifically in the
- 3:54areas of being disrespected as being ignored and being insulted
- 4:00and not being invited and being spoken over, not getting a word.
- 4:04And I drive all those classic things that bother us, not being
- 4:08invited to that party or to that get together, that conversation,
- 4:11that meeting, the regular stuff, those that emotions where people
- 4:16get insulted, of course, and that emotions where a person has
- 4:18to say it hurts, but and then you do the butt slowly accept it
- 4:25doesn't matter that much. Next time it happens again,
- 4:27good. By the way, it'll happen
- 4:291,000,000 1/2 times in your life.
- 4:32It happens daily. You are left out of things
- 4:35daily. And there are people who live
- 4:37their entire life just keeping track of their insults.
- 4:40They have like a log of how many times they've insulted a day.
- 4:43They literally live their entire life and just always upset by.
- 4:47He didn't tell me this and he didn't invite me to that and he
- 4:50mentioned me there and I wasn't pleased.
- 4:52Over here, it's a very fun life to live.
- 4:55By the way, I'm being sarcastic is impossible.
- 4:57It's torture and then there are people.
- 4:59And there's a lot of people like that.
- 5:01Yeah, sure. You run into them here and there
- 5:03on the street and they'll tell you, Oh, nice.
- 5:05You said hello to me. This one.
- 5:06And this one did. He Yeah.
- 5:07Yeah, exactly. And like, literally, no offense,
- 5:11it's a disaster life. Now you replace that life.
- 5:14We say hello. Tonight.
- 5:17To him, by the way, you're bothered, sure.
- 5:19Then you replace that life with the other guy who doesn't seem
- 5:23to be razzled at all, does not seem to be fazed at all.
- 5:28It's an awesome life to live. It ain't easy, and it doesn't
- 5:32give. By the way, it's never giving
- 5:34the insulters a pass. I'm not telling you.
- 5:38OK? You know what?
- 5:39Because people should be this way, and because with humility,
- 5:41humility, they get to this point, give them the backseat.
- 5:44Who cares? They shouldn't care in the
- 5:46backseat. Don't give them to speak.
- 5:49Don't invite them. Don't mention their name.
- 5:51I'll give them any credit. I'm telling you that.
- 5:53All right? Don't give a rabbi some sort of
- 5:56COVID. Don't give someone who gave a
- 5:59lot of money some sort of thank you.
- 6:01I'm not saying that at all, but I'm saying from the person in
- 6:04the back end, the recipient, he should know you could be
- 6:07insulted and ruin your life, or you could be humble and
- 6:12therefore deal with it. Deal with the blow and accept it
- 6:17and move on. That will only be doable if you
- 6:21have deep humility and you live. This.
- 6:23By the way, FYI, is life's work. Certain character traits are you
- 6:29get it and you got it. This one is life is a life
- 6:32mission. I'm telling you, I know it's
- 6:34personally. I live my life.
- 6:36I'm working on this. It's a life job to figure out a
- 6:40way to not be hurt by being left out of things.
- 6:44Am I being spoken down to? Am I being insulted?
- 6:48Am I being ignored? And all those things, Life,
- 6:50mission. And trust me, you will be
- 6:53insulted. A billion.
- 6:54I said a million and a half. I underrated it a billion times,
- 6:58right? Every family get together.
- 7:00They didn't invite me here. Oh, my mother doesn't want me at
- 7:02this meal. She wants me at that meal.
- 7:04Oh, this, this is having a conversation.
- 7:06I'm not part of it. You name it, these things happen
- 7:08and it's a disaster life. It's a disaster life.
- 7:12And you know what's funny? This is a reality that can exist
- 7:17in a very rich world that we live in.
- 7:19You live in a rich class of world.
- 7:22We have beautiful weddings, we have great get togethers, we
- 7:25have great families. We have great schools, creative
- 7:28schools. The world that we have is full
- 7:30of strong groups and committees. And you know what that leads to
- 7:35more of this Everything else in the world.
- 7:38It's funny, these issues didn't exist in the in times that
- 7:44people were struggling, these issues.
- 7:46This is not right. It wasn't top of mind when
- 7:49people were struggling to make food, put food on the table,
- 7:52trying to figure out how to, you know, how they get the next meal
- 7:55and where they're going to live and all that stuff.
- 7:58These issues only come about some of our biggest emotions.
- 8:02You know, people say, you always say how would life if life is
- 8:07if, what's better life like this or life during the challenging
- 8:12times, right? So you asked the question,
- 8:14what's better, life and the world we live in today or Bay
- 8:17Parkway, 1970s, Nineteen 60s How?
- 8:21About Ocean Parkway, go to Ocean Parkway.
- 8:23I wasn't around for the Bay Parkway.
- 8:25Basically the Ocean Parkway. Hard to know.
- 8:27And the answer is what's wealthier this way a million
- 8:30times? Who's got better shoes this way,
- 8:33a million times even more rabbis involved this way.
- 8:36Better schools is much more good.
- 8:38But there's also much more of those problems, much of these
- 8:42teal problems, and they're so teal.
- 8:44What did I say to you after they're over?
- 8:47After you really look at your inventory of your day, your
- 8:50month, your week, your year, all for that you think you care
- 8:53about these things. You think these on your list.
- 8:55You think after 120 you want them to say about you or you
- 8:59think it makes a difference? He was insulted so often.
- 9:02He was in left out of the family picture so many times.
- 9:06They never went to him to evolve him.
- 9:09No, you know, while you're living, while while on this
- 9:11earth, this is pretty much for many people, top of mine, it's
- 9:15shockey. And that's where you need
- 9:17humility. You need humility to be able to
- 9:20allow yourself to live the life you wanted to live, to live life
- 9:24you wish you can live. And there's a life where I'm
- 9:26flowing, I'm settled, I'm good. Not one that every other day you
- 9:31find that another thing and it gets you crazy because trust me,
- 9:34that will be the life that a president lives.
- 9:37And they do not just chill out a little bit, take yourself down
- 9:40and up notch and say it's all right.
- 9:43I'm not the biggest deal in every area, that I need to be
- 9:45involved in everything. I have to look at it from 1000
- 9:49angles because there are always 1000 angles.
- 9:51It's not that many people out there that are good people that
- 9:52want to hurt you, right? Your average person doesn't want
- 9:56to hurt you in our families, in our schools, in our schools,
- 9:59they're not trying to hurt. They forgot the guy for the
- 10:02aliyah. It was a mistake.
- 10:03They forgot the guy to give him a good seat.
- 10:05It was a mistake. They forgot the rabbi open times
- 10:09was a mistake with a stuck, They forgot.
- 10:11You know, now it doesn't mean it's a pass, but it does mean
- 10:14can't allow it to consume you because if you do, your life
- 10:19will be the most awful life around.
- 10:21Well, it's the richest, the richest life around.
- 10:24That's the reality. You could live a rich, terrible
- 10:27life or you could live a poor awesome life.
- 10:30We want to have a rich, awesome life, all right.
- 10:32We want to be blessed like we are, and we want to be humble
- 10:36like they were. That's who we want.
- 10:38If we get both those things, you're living the dream, living
- 10:42the dream. But if you ever allow yourself
- 10:45to get bit by the bug of caring about these things that realize
- 10:50of to be consumed, I know you know you know, I love this is my
- 10:54great favorite example, you know, with a sports player when
- 10:57they first get drafted, they had them.
- 11:00They do any interview. They're likable, they're fun and
- 11:05four or five years in pompous, arrogant, hard to get an
- 11:10interview orphan insulted. What happened?
- 11:13They got beat by the bug. They get by the bug and forgot
- 11:17that God gave them a blessing called talent and it was all
- 11:19God-given. They forgot the whole picture,
- 11:21all right, just the way some people are.
- 11:22That happens to everybody. Right.
- 11:24Not just so. The problem is, is that it
- 11:26happens to everybody. The problem is, and you could
- 11:28have people whose parents struggle to make a living and
- 11:31they were blessed. It's one generation, they're
- 11:34blessed. And they completely forgot about
- 11:37the whole idea of people struggling and they completely
- 11:40forgot where they came from. And they forgot the fact that it
- 11:43was one good deal. And I got them started and now
- 11:47they're insulted all the time. They're upset all the time.
- 11:49That's throwing insane parties just to keep their name and the
- 11:52ego up. It's all a fraud.
- 11:55Everything that comes to arrogance is a fraud.
- 11:57You understand? You could take 10 people and
- 12:00line them up and I can tell you, so can you the same and say they
- 12:04all could have been in the exact same situations.
- 12:09Mine is God making his moves. Any of them so and so could have
- 12:12been wealthy. So and so could have been poor.
- 12:15So and so could have been a rabbi.
- 12:16So and so could have been a called a guy for life.
- 12:18So and so could have been this so and so could have been that
- 12:20so and so can marry that girl, marry that girl.
- 12:23How do the children been involved in that community?
- 12:25It's all a fraud. So you got to chill out.
- 12:28I recognize I need to know where I'm standing and where I'm
- 12:31coming from. If you do the life is blessed
- 12:34because everything then you're dealing with gravy.
- 12:38It's all extra, it's all beautiful, It's all a blessing
- 12:41has that person has to live. It's all a blessing.
- 12:44I'm telling you opinionated about this concept because this
- 12:48really, I have to be aware of this daily because I run the
- 12:52risk. Be honest with you.
- 12:53I run the risk in this position of getting bit by the book, run
- 12:57the risk every time. Now, I happen to not be in that
- 13:01overall position, but in this current position, I run the
- 13:03risk. And because of that, it's a very
- 13:05dangerous thing. I tell myself all the time.
- 13:08I tell my wife all the time. If you ever catch me talking
- 13:12that way, stop me. And I'm aware of it.
- 13:14And I have something. Well send you.
- 13:16DNAI have something for that's very nice of you, but I have
- 13:20made the mistake at times and I have, but I have also and I
- 13:23don't know about handle if there was something.
- 13:26Let's say I found that something big is happening and they're
- 13:28involving community rabbis, rabbis of shoes, right And they
- 13:33they go to that true, not true, not true.
- 13:36And they don't put money on the list.
- 13:38There was a thing I think a year ago where they didn't even come
- 13:41to the show. It's relatively A prominent
- 13:43place. It's on the corner.
- 13:44It's kind of decent size. I don't think I care at all, but
- 13:48it's that that's a risk. That's a risk idea.
- 13:51That's something like that can make a guy nuts.
- 13:53Yeah. And then there are.
- 13:55If you look at him. That, yeah, that can make a
- 13:57person nuts and. And not because he has it in
- 13:59him. Now one of his guys comes to
- 14:01that rabbi. What's?
- 14:02Going on? Sure, that's it.
- 14:03All in the book, that's all. I love that now you like his
- 14:08fire, which was with the bended on his own, and before you know
- 14:11it, it could. But yeah, I mean, it's yeah.
- 14:15We had a guy in our shul, he got a seat he didn't like for the
- 14:19holiday. Sure.
- 14:20All of a sudden we get a letter and during the holidays we will
- 14:24out. Me and my family will no longer
- 14:26be praying with the cab. Yeah, nothing I like less and
- 14:32that pressure that people put on people.
- 14:34Do you know how much time? I'll give you an example, even
- 14:37with this Friday night dinner right coming up, do you know how
- 14:39much time they're putting onto seating?
- 14:42I'm sure I prayed out of that. Won't happen.
- 14:44I'm just someone not going to be happy with this seat, right?
- 14:46But the truth is, but the truth is they tried, they tried, they
- 14:51tried holiday seats if you'd see the amount.
- 14:55Of time they. Walk the room and they look at
- 14:59the angles and they say OK, so and so here, but her mother here
- 15:04who should be in front of who but the doodle No, who should be
- 15:06with them and all these things and like really, that's
- 15:09overdoing this, right? But the truth is people really
- 15:12care. They really, really care and you
- 15:14can't handle just can't get upset.
- 15:18It's not worth it. So then you say, OK, but the
- 15:20person who cries wins. They don't win because their
- 15:23life is always this way. It's not, it's.
- 15:26Not you. Want to be a person?
- 15:30Yeah, you have a right to ask a certain things.
- 15:32You have a right to be treated with respect, but if it doesn't
- 15:34work out, don't rush to judgment and assume they're trying to get
- 15:38you. They don't care about you, you
- 15:39don't have enough, you're not being enough.
- 15:41Deal. Oh they give the other guy,
- 15:42don't leave. Relax.
- 15:44It's just an oversight. Nobody.
- 15:47Most more people are not trying to hurt, never other trying to
- 15:51hurt. They may be doing things for
- 15:53certain reasons, but they're not just trying to hurt for no
- 15:55reason. They might be scared of you,
- 15:56they might not be in the mood, all that stuff, but trying to
- 15:59hurt, that's not there. So calm down where you're making
- 16:02humble and you can live the most beautiful life around.
- 16:05Stop.
