- 0:18Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. Call you're looking good? You've been
- 0:24Speaker 1: losing weight? Are you on the oz epics? A lot
- 0:26Speaker 1: of comments on his hat today.
- 0:27Speaker 3: He says, I know grammar and language come up sometimes,
- 0:30Speaker 3: so I figured i'd highlight a few oddities and errors
- 0:33Speaker 3: that you still make, Paul, picture is pronounced picture, not
- 0:37Speaker 3: picture bred the overuse of the word myself, Mike, your
- 0:40Speaker 3: heavy reliance on the phrase a little bit, he says,
- 0:43Speaker 3: he has no heaving complaints.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You must be a barrel apps us.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Lining up cadence between the quarterbacks and making sure everybody
- 0:51Speaker 4: is kind of doing it the same way is something
- 0:53Speaker 4: that they've been talking about.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Thanks for bringing us down the new studio. We're gonna
- 0:57Speaker 1: have three cameras, he was in. We'll be able to
- 0:59Speaker 1: do those.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh right, yeah, So let me ask you a question
- 1:06Speaker 2: about acquiring a stud wide receiver because I think about
- 1:09Speaker 2: football two sometimes having.
- 1:11Speaker 5: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.

- 1:21Speaker 3: Welcome to day one of Mini Camp. This is Fred Kurst,
- 1:26Speaker 3: Mike do So, Evan Lazar and Tamara Brown. We will
- 1:29Speaker 3: be here for the duration of practice today Monday. It's
- 1:32Speaker 3: day one and we are high above the practice fields
- 1:35Speaker 3: here at Jillette Stadium. We're presented by buy a Toyota
- 1:39Speaker 3: dot com. If you want to see Toyota's best offers,
- 1:41Speaker 3: including those not seen on TV, go.
- 1:44Speaker 1: To buy a Toyota dot com.
- 1:45Speaker 3: It's Toyota's official website for deals from the official vehicle
- 1:49Speaker 3: of the New England Patriots, Toyota. Let's go to practice.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Here we are, We're here, We're arrived. What a beautiful day,
- 1:55Speaker 1: perfect Chris weather, not too humid or sticky or anything
- 1:59Speaker 1: like that. So I don't know about you guys, but
- 2:01Speaker 1: this is a fun, uh little final rap here as
- 2:04Speaker 1: we get ready for Tom Brady Night on Wednesday. We've
- 2:06Speaker 1: got a couple of days of Mini Camp practice and
- 2:09Speaker 1: uh and then I guess we get a vacation. That's
- 2:11Speaker 1: that's the hope, right, what's that? What's the vacation? It
- 2:16Speaker 1: hasn't felt like this offseason, but no, but good to
- 2:19Speaker 1: see some names here and everything. Uh, you know, Devon Gotshaw,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Matthew Judon, who's moving back out there? Not me me
- 2:28Speaker 1: there there we go. Uh, but you know a couple
- 2:30Speaker 1: of names, Giromeo did say in his press conference everybody
- 2:33Speaker 1: was here still taking some inventory of of the injury guys,
- 2:36Speaker 1: rehab guys, you know, Jiulani Tobai, Kendrick Bourne, Uh, col
- 2:41Speaker 1: Strange obviously hasn't been really participating. We think he's gonna
- 2:43Speaker 1: be out. But a couple of these names, Jonathan Jones
- 2:46Speaker 1: who's been in and out, Judon hasn't really been around,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Gotcha hasn't been around. Those guys are here. So it
- 2:50Speaker 1: sounds like giord is happy with the attendance. Yes, so
- 2:54Speaker 1: it's it's.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Really got a you know, training can't feel we we
- 2:57Speaker 3: actually have referees out there.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got a chain gang out there.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So they're gonna do some down and distance work today.
- 3:04Speaker 3: So you're really gonna get a feel for training camp
- 3:07Speaker 3: today minus the fans.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, you wonder just how competitive it's gonna be.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I know, Jerrod said that there was gonna be some
- 3:14Speaker 1: competitiveness today. I mean take from that what you will.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We've seen some competitiveness, I guess you could call it
- 3:20Speaker 1: in OTAs, but you know, eleven on eleven brief periods
- 3:24Speaker 1: last week we were hearing the red zone a lot
- 3:26Speaker 1: third down, but a lot of red zone work is
- 3:28Speaker 1: we're kind of used to seeing, and you know, just
- 3:31Speaker 1: to recap, I guess for people who weren't around, a
- 3:33Speaker 1: little clunky from the offense, you know, ups and downs,
- 3:36Speaker 1: a couple drake may interceptions. Definitely seems like the defense
- 3:39Speaker 1: that has continuity, that has coaching continuity, they seem to
- 3:43Speaker 1: be a little bit ahead, which, you know, not all
- 3:45Speaker 1: that surprising given that you've got a completely remade offense.
- 3:48Speaker 3: So just just in case people are wondering, you're looking
- 3:52Speaker 3: at us right now, because this is what they call
- 3:54Speaker 3: period one, they're doing some walkthroughs of some actual plays
- 3:59Speaker 3: and formation and stuff, so they don't want our cameras
- 4:02Speaker 3: to turn to them for period one. But once this
- 4:04Speaker 3: period's over, you'll be looking at the field. So don't worry,
- 4:08Speaker 3: you're not gonna have to look at us for the
- 4:09Speaker 3: whole full time.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Tamara, what do you got?
- 4:12Speaker 6: Sorry, I couldn't figure out my microsone or not, but
- 4:15Speaker 6: I want to draw attention to something Girod said in
- 4:17Speaker 6: his press conference today and see what you guys thought.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Where did you think of the question about Drake May
- 4:22Speaker 6: moving into second behind Jacoby Brissett and his response, Do
- 4:25Speaker 6: we really think it's just trying new looks and trying
- 4:28Speaker 6: new people offensively and defensively?
- 4:30Speaker 7: Do we really think that they're ready for him to
- 4:32Speaker 7: get more reps?
- 4:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 4:33Speaker 4: It said that last week when we talked to Drake
- 4:36Speaker 4: May about it, even after practice, that it's just about
- 4:39Speaker 4: getting him work with other guys that he's throwing to,
- 4:42Speaker 4: because if you are in the same order every single time,
- 4:44Speaker 4: then you're gonna be thrown to the same group of
- 4:46Speaker 4: receivers with the same offensive linemen and.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So on and so forth.
- 4:50Speaker 4: My read on it, Tamara, is that they're trying to
- 4:52Speaker 4: play this a little bit close to the vest and
- 4:54Speaker 4: try not to make as many headlines about it as
- 4:57Speaker 4: it's obviously going to make.
- 4:58Speaker 1: But we'll see out here today.
- 5:00Speaker 4: One of my big things about today is the order
- 5:02Speaker 4: the same as what we saw last time, because that
- 5:04Speaker 4: would tell me that it's definitively that Drake May has
- 5:07Speaker 4: moved up the depth chart versus what they're telling us
- 5:10Speaker 4: it is, which is experimenting with other combinations.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I mean, we shouldn't be surprised, right this is only
- 5:15Speaker 3: a matter of time. They didn't draft this guy through
- 5:18Speaker 3: the overall to back up Bailey Zappi.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's really where we're at right now
- 5:24Speaker 4: with Zappi is just.
- 5:27Speaker 1: His spot on this team.
- 5:28Speaker 4: It comes down to, if Jacob Brissett were to get
- 5:30Speaker 4: hurt early on in the season, do you trust to
- 5:33Speaker 4: put Drake May out there before maybe you really want to,
- 5:36Speaker 4: versus carrying Bailey Zappi as sort of the emergency backup
- 5:40Speaker 4: for that circumstance. Is it worth carrying another quarterback on
- 5:44Speaker 4: the roster that isn't the future simply because you want
- 5:48Speaker 4: to break glass emergency type of situation. If Drake May
- 5:51Speaker 4: were to have to go in early or then what
- 5:54Speaker 4: the timeline tells you.
- 5:55Speaker 6: I think given the history of quarterbacks the last two
- 5:58Speaker 6: years in the NFL, I think could be beneficial to
- 6:01Speaker 6: keep Bailly Zappy because you've seen so many guys go down,
- 6:03Speaker 6: Especially when you look at a team like the Giants
- 6:05Speaker 6: who burned through three quarterbacks so quickly in the season
- 6:08Speaker 6: because of injuries.
- 6:09Speaker 7: It couldn't hurt to have a guy there just in case.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll just look at the Browns last year with
- 6:13Speaker 1: Alex Van Pelton. I mean he's, you know, pulling Joe
- 6:15Speaker 1: Flacco off, Yeah, the couch, which you know, say what
- 6:18Speaker 1: you will about Bailey Zappy, but I think you know
- 6:19Speaker 1: having him in there is probably preferable. Then you know,
- 6:21Speaker 1: a guy that you're gonna get in mid season. I
- 6:24Speaker 1: just don't get like, you know, oh, they're gonna go
- 6:25Speaker 1: down to three, Like, why would you say that? Because
- 6:27Speaker 1: it's obviously it would be Bailey's appy. They're not gonna
- 6:30Speaker 1: cut the two guys they just drafted. And Jacoby Brissett,
- 6:33Speaker 1: you know, everyone is calling him the starter and that's
- 6:35Speaker 1: you know what we have to refer to him as.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So I don't know what the rush is. And I
- 6:39Speaker 1: mean I get Evan, you know, the point early on
- 6:41Speaker 1: with reps and all that definitely very important and we'll
- 6:44Speaker 1: see hero over the last couple of days how they
- 6:47Speaker 1: divvy those things up. But I just I'm never in
- 6:50Speaker 1: a rush to get rid of a quarterback. In this league,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you're not in a rush.
- 6:53Speaker 3: But let's just say that Drake May does show steady
- 6:58Speaker 3: progress and understanding of the off, At what point do
- 7:03Speaker 3: you have to make that tough decision on Bailey Zappi,
- 7:06Speaker 3: and do you only get rid of him if it's
- 7:08Speaker 3: in some part of a transaction that you're getting something,
- 7:11Speaker 3: or do you just out and out release him?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Well, I think deadlines matter in the league always, so
- 7:16Speaker 4: until they are forced to cut the roster down from
- 7:18Speaker 4: ninety to I think there's a seventy five cut down
- 7:21Speaker 4: now and then it goes all the way down to
- 7:22Speaker 4: fifty three. I don't see any rush to get rid
- 7:26Speaker 4: of Bailey Zappi before that fifty three man roster cutdown
- 7:29Speaker 4: because he should be on an NFL roster somewhere as
- 7:32Speaker 4: a backup quarterback. So why would you put the car
- 7:36Speaker 4: before the horse, right, Like, why would you speed him
- 7:38Speaker 4: out of here when maybe he does have a decent preseason,
- 7:41Speaker 4: Maybe he has a decent joint practice. If we have
- 7:44Speaker 4: one of those right where he shows another team something
- 7:47Speaker 4: that's here with joint practices, something along those lines, could
- 7:50Speaker 4: maybe increase his trade value. And you get to that
- 7:53Speaker 4: roster cutdown day and it's not going to be for much,
- 7:56Speaker 4: but maybe it's for a player you know that's a
- 7:59Speaker 4: depth player at a different position, or maybe it's for
- 8:02Speaker 4: a twenty twenty five draft pick, and I think that
- 8:05Speaker 4: you have to look at those things and realize that
- 8:07Speaker 4: cutting him now really is a disturbance.
- 8:09Speaker 6: So so and I feel like and having him, it's
- 8:12Speaker 6: not like it's causing like confusion in the locker room
- 8:15Speaker 6: or causing anyone to feel some type of way.
- 8:17Speaker 7: So, for example, if.
- 8:18Speaker 6: They kept Matt Jones and tried to use him as
- 8:20Speaker 6: a backup quarterback, that'd be really uncomfortable. But keeping Baileys Appy,
- 8:23Speaker 6: I feel like that's totally different.
- 8:25Speaker 3: So is the answer then, No matter what you get
- 8:29Speaker 3: to the fifty three man cut down, if there isn't
- 8:32Speaker 3: anything on the table for him, you're keeping him. You're
- 8:35Speaker 3: you know, whether it's on the practice squad or whatever.
- 8:37Speaker 3: But he's gonna stay on this team until such time
- 8:40Speaker 3: where there's something to be gutten for him.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I mean, I think so it's just it's too important
- 8:45Speaker 1: of a position in the league to just start right,
- 8:48Speaker 1: We're good, you know. I mean, I do think that
- 8:49Speaker 1: there's a world where you feel like Drake may is
- 8:52Speaker 1: the number two. But if it really came down to
- 8:55Speaker 1: it and you had to put a guy into a
- 8:57Speaker 1: game in the first like few weeks of the season,
- 8:58Speaker 1: that you still might go to Bailey Zappy just because he's,
- 9:01Speaker 1: you know, a little bit more versed and it has
- 9:04Speaker 1: a little bit more experience. But I just think when
- 9:07Speaker 1: you need quarterbacks like this, we saw what happened. Like
- 9:09Speaker 1: Tamara pointed out, with other teams in the past, it's
- 9:12Speaker 1: you know, why be in a rush. The three of
- 9:14Speaker 1: you seem a little bit more hesitant than I am.
- 9:16Speaker 3: I think I think when Drake May is ready, you
- 9:19Speaker 3: put him in.
- 9:21Speaker 1: See I'm in that school. No, yea.
- 9:23Speaker 6: I definitely think put d Drake May in when he's ready.
- 9:26Speaker 6: But I also think that you need to have a
- 9:28Speaker 6: plan if he gets hurt.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Sure, yeah, I would start Drake May week one, like
- 9:32Speaker 4: I would. I'm telling you that right now. My only
- 9:36Speaker 4: I guess what's the word. My only hesitation for starting
- 9:39Speaker 4: him week one is it's a long season and they
- 9:41Speaker 4: don't have a buy until week fourteen this year. And
- 9:44Speaker 4: if you want to convince me that September is an
- 9:46Speaker 4: extension of the preseason and we're not going to figure
- 9:49Speaker 4: out the offensive line until maybe mid October, and so
- 9:52Speaker 4: maybe you sit him for the first four weeks of
- 9:54Speaker 4: the season. But this the data that suggests that sitting
- 9:58Speaker 4: the quarterback is the only thing that works. It really
- 10:00Speaker 4: isn't backed up. Like if you look at the quarterbacks
- 10:03Speaker 4: from last year, the top ten quarterbacks in QBR, seven
- 10:06Speaker 4: of them started as rookies. The only ones that don't
- 10:09Speaker 4: start as rookies are Mahomes and Jordan Love, Like those
- 10:12Speaker 4: are your two in Rogers when he comes back, and.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Both of them had playoff quarterbacks in front of.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Them, right, And it just all these examples, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 4: guys that weren't necessarily ready, like Josh Allen he started
- 10:24Speaker 4: eleven games his rookie season. Lamar Jackson really wasn't there
- 10:28Speaker 4: yet as a passer and started his rookie season and
- 10:30Speaker 4: then started a playoff game for Baltimore also, So there's
- 10:33Speaker 4: just a lot of examples of it going both ways.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And I feel like the conversation is always about well,
- 10:37Speaker 4: Patrick Mahomes and Jordan Love sat, so that means that
- 10:39Speaker 4: everybody has to sit, and I just don't think that
- 10:42Speaker 4: that's accurate.
- 10:43Speaker 3: So, as our viewers can see, our cameras are now
- 10:45Speaker 3: turned back on the field, session one.
- 10:49Speaker 8: Or what do they call it, pod? First period one
- 10:52Speaker 8: is over.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah, so now we're looking at stretching right now, as
- 10:57Speaker 3: they always do. Anyone that's watched these broadcasts for is
- 11:00Speaker 3: accustomed to seeing this. The music goes up, players start stretching,
- 11:05Speaker 3: and once that's done, they'll go into is this considered.
- 11:09Speaker 8: A period, Yeah, yeah, so stretch period.
- 11:11Speaker 3: So once they're done with this, they'll go into period
- 11:13Speaker 3: three and you will see period three.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So that's that's gonna be cool.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Like I think, compared to other live practice broadcasts we've
- 11:21Speaker 3: done in the past, you're gonna see more of the
- 11:23Speaker 3: practice than you ever have in the past. Yeah, So
- 11:26Speaker 3: that's of course an indication in the new regime. You know,
- 11:30Speaker 3: it's it's not all as much cloak and dagger as
- 11:33Speaker 3: it it used to be. Whether that's for better or worse,
- 11:36Speaker 3: we'll we'll find out, Yeah, in September, in October.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Well, it's definitely a lot of really you know, interesting pieces.
- 11:41Speaker 1: And I think the big key part for me with
- 11:44Speaker 1: Elliott Wolf was, you know, talking with young players are
- 11:46Speaker 1: gonna play, and I think early through the spring OTAs
- 11:49Speaker 1: maybe some spots that you might feel they have some
- 11:52Speaker 1: depth questions. It seems at least for the time being,
- 11:56Speaker 1: that they're content to you know, really get a look
- 11:58Speaker 1: at some of these younger plays, and you know, we've
- 12:01Speaker 1: talked about the cornerback position where you know, Miles Bryan
- 12:04Speaker 1: really has played a pretty big role the last couple
- 12:06Speaker 1: of years. He's he's no longer around. You know, some
- 12:10Speaker 1: of the role players are gone, Lawrence guy being one
- 12:12Speaker 1: on defense as well, So you just have some young
- 12:14Speaker 1: guys like Isaiah Bolden and Sean Wade and Alex Austin
- 12:19Speaker 1: and Tristan Hill, some of these younger players that you know,
- 12:23Speaker 1: feels like through OTA's that kind of have an opportunity
- 12:27Speaker 1: to secure a role on this on this defense, And
- 12:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think it's a big, a big piece
- 12:32Speaker 1: of what this new regime is trying to do. He's
- 12:36Speaker 1: offer opportunities for these young guys to excel. So I
- 12:39Speaker 1: hope they stick to that.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Yeah, me too, I do, because I think there's a
- 12:43Speaker 4: world still where there's a lot of veteran guys on
- 12:46Speaker 4: this team that could play over some of those younger players.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Maybe not so much on the defensive side of the ball,
- 12:51Speaker 4: but offensively. We've talked so much about Juju Smith Schuster
- 12:54Speaker 4: and his role in all this. If he's playing over
- 12:56Speaker 4: Javon Baker and Jalen Polk I think that's a mistake
- 12:59Speaker 4: for them because they whether the results are there right
- 13:02Speaker 4: away or not, is not necessarily the point, I feel like,
- 13:05Speaker 4: especially early on in this season. So I really hope
- 13:08Speaker 4: that they stick to let's let the young guys play
- 13:11Speaker 4: and this goes back to the quarterback as well. You
- 13:13Speaker 4: just really hope that that's what we're gonna do here.
- 13:16Speaker 4: I know we always talk about the Packers deuce and
- 13:18Speaker 4: watching those joint practices. Can you just see those young
- 13:21Speaker 4: guys that are out there for Green Bay and how
- 13:22Speaker 4: much it's benefited them to grow together in Unison. The
- 13:26Speaker 4: receivers Jordan Love like, like, that's what the Patriots I
- 13:30Speaker 4: hope we're gonna emulate.
- 13:31Speaker 3: As we look at over the field, do you see
- 13:33Speaker 3: anything new, any contraptions, any any equipment, anything new that
- 13:39Speaker 3: we haven't seen before.
- 13:41Speaker 8: Well, I mean, you know, for the for the viewers,
- 13:43Speaker 8: probably new for them.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Over on the far field, they have, you know, basically
- 13:46Speaker 1: a giant screen set up with three different places for
- 13:49Speaker 1: the ball to go. That's been consistently part of all
- 13:52Speaker 1: the practices that they've had so far. A lot of
- 13:54Speaker 1: footwork drills, you you know, I'm sure you'll see drills
- 13:57Speaker 1: coming up here in a minute where you know the
- 13:59Speaker 1: quarterbacks are going to drop back, they're going to jump
- 14:01Speaker 1: over a couple of pads and then one of the
- 14:03Speaker 1: coach is gonna yell out, you know one of the
- 14:05Speaker 1: colors there, I guess it's red, yellow, blue, as to
- 14:08Speaker 1: which areas it's a target. So those have been a
- 14:11Speaker 1: big part of it. I know, Fred, you were iron
- 14:13Speaker 1: down there. Looks like they got some kind of if we.
- 14:15Speaker 3: Can let all the camera for a second, just pan
- 14:18Speaker 3: back right a little bit, I don't know if they
- 14:22Speaker 3: can hear me. Yeah, keep going, keep going, keep going
- 14:25Speaker 3: where that orons thing is. It seems to be a
- 14:28Speaker 3: contraption that eventually that will raise up and players will
- 14:32Speaker 3: have to go underneath it.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Or I don't know.
- 14:36Speaker 8: Yeah, you call it, Evan the Callahan sledge.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So actually back right corner, I don't know if that's
- 14:42Speaker 4: where're appointed right now, where the waste innovation side is. Yeah,
- 14:45Speaker 4: so those are the Callahan sleds. So Bill Callahan was
- 14:48Speaker 4: the offensive line coach in Cleveland for years and personally
- 14:52Speaker 4: we all know we're all Scarneckia guys here, but Bill
- 14:55Speaker 4: Callahan is the other name in offensive line coaching that's
- 14:58Speaker 4: considered one of the greatest of all time, and he
- 15:00Speaker 4: has actually designed his own blocking sled and the idea
- 15:03Speaker 4: is to mimic more of what you're gonna do against
- 15:06Speaker 4: a defensive player. If we could, if we could get
- 15:08Speaker 4: underneath it, we could.
- 15:09Speaker 8: Just pan right a little bit more right under the.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Two coaches standing by them.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we could go to where the waste Innovation sign
- 15:17Speaker 3: is and there's a couple of blocking sleds right below.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Keep going, keep going with the camera.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Okay, Well, I don't know if they can hear me,
- 15:27Speaker 3: but uh, once once they start using it, we'll point
- 15:30Speaker 3: it out. The other thing I noticed that, Uh, the
- 15:34Speaker 3: camera's on it right now. If we can freeze up
- 15:38Speaker 3: up now, they're gonna move.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 15:41Speaker 3: So all right, so you see the dummies underneath the
- 15:46Speaker 3: bud light, uh banner right to the left. Now, each
- 15:50Speaker 3: one of those have a have a jersey number. Is
- 15:53Speaker 3: there any significance to the jersey numbers on those blocking dummies?
- 15:57Speaker 1: Well, there are defensive players. You know.
- 16:00Speaker 4: There's a eight, there's a five, right, And so my
- 16:03Speaker 4: guess is is that it's telling you which defensive player
- 16:07Speaker 4: you're blocking. You're gonna block eyes differently, you're gonna block
- 16:10Speaker 4: jupial peppers. That's a different block than blocking Devon godshop, right,
- 16:13Speaker 4: So I'm assuming that that's the way that that is
- 16:16Speaker 4: set up. But a lot of the things that we're seeing,
- 16:18Speaker 4: like the Callahan sled, some of the different sleds if
- 16:21Speaker 4: they have that are now angled. A lot of this
- 16:23Speaker 4: is set up for them to block outside zone, right.
- 16:25Speaker 4: That's the idea is that instead of straight on with
- 16:29Speaker 4: the pad, but now you have something that's a little
- 16:31Speaker 4: bit more at an angle, and the idea is to
- 16:33Speaker 4: create that horizontal step so that you're repping an outside
- 16:37Speaker 4: zone step versus repping a downhill or a gap scheme
- 16:40Speaker 4: where you're just coming straight off the ball. So there
- 16:42Speaker 4: are different angle, different sort of ideas. But yeah, Bill
- 16:47Speaker 4: Callahan actually has a trademark on that sled.
- 16:50Speaker 3: Maybe we get that if you pan right with the camera,
- 16:53Speaker 3: keep pan right that the other way other way? No, okay,
- 17:01Speaker 3: well it's it's it's tough to Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 7: Also, has post always been narrow?
- 17:08Speaker 8: Oh there we go right there? Stop, that's those are
- 17:11Speaker 8: the Callahan sleds. Those those two pieces of equipment right there,
- 17:16Speaker 8: and you notice that they're angled down.
- 17:18Speaker 3: They're angled down. Those are really hard to move unless
- 17:21Speaker 3: you hit them just right. If you don't hit them
- 17:23Speaker 3: just right, they dig in and you can't slide them.
- 17:27Speaker 3: So you've really got you get your pads low and
- 17:30Speaker 3: come up, get underneath and to.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Move those things.
- 17:34Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting once they start using that who
- 17:37Speaker 3: does it well and who does it? So those those
- 17:40Speaker 3: are the Callahan sleds. And as Evan said, uh, Callahan
- 17:44Speaker 3: has a patent now though.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah. And Scott Peters of course worked under Callahan, so
- 17:49Speaker 1: maybe you got a deal.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Made all the connections. Yeah, So Callahan is now in
- 17:53Speaker 4: Tennessee with his son is the head coach of the Titans,
- 17:56Speaker 4: so he moved from Cleveland to Tennessee. And Scott Peters
- 17:59Speaker 4: obviously came here with Alex van Pelt but one of
- 18:02Speaker 4: the better, if not up there on the mount rushmore
- 18:05Speaker 4: of offensive line coaches. Spartaneki you know some other guys.
- 18:11Speaker 6: Yeah, So I was saying, have I just not paid
- 18:14Speaker 6: attention to this, But has that the goal post always
- 18:16Speaker 6: been that narrow?
- 18:16Speaker 1: Yes?
- 18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, they they move him around, but yeah, there's
- 18:20Speaker 3: two narrow ones? Is that one and then I think
- 18:23Speaker 3: the one two are right in the in this one
- 18:27Speaker 3: is narrow as well.
- 18:29Speaker 8: Yeah, so a couple of couple of absences. I'm still
- 18:34Speaker 8: working through this though, but you know, no Uk, you
- 18:37Speaker 8: haven't seen him yet.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Uh, he was one that that had missed.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Uh.
- 18:41Speaker 8: I think it was the last two sessions, I think.
- 18:44Speaker 8: And I haven't spotted Joshua yet. Okay, so a couple
- 18:49Speaker 8: of guys that, of course reserve the right. Some of
- 18:52Speaker 8: these guys might have snuck out of here.
- 18:54Speaker 1: But as you said, Judon is here.
- 18:56Speaker 8: Yeah, we saw Judon and and one little thing about
- 18:58Speaker 8: got Chah No, you know, no practice Jersey on with
- 19:01Speaker 8: him just wearing a red sweatshirt.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Not sure what that means. He was out here really
- 19:05Speaker 1: early getting loosened up, but he has not been around
- 19:09Speaker 1: for the OT practices, so it seems like he's on
- 19:12Speaker 1: kind of a reduced workload plan.
- 19:16Speaker 4: You know.
- 19:16Speaker 1: It does bring back some memories of Jude on last
- 19:18Speaker 1: summer where it's always wonder if those are holding. Yeah, yeah,
- 19:21Speaker 1: if he's now, I'm here, I've got my helmet, but
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm not going to put my number on yet or something.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Players have wizened up with the holdouts and how they
- 19:29Speaker 4: do hold ins. Fine, so they don't get fine because
- 19:32Speaker 4: they're physically here, but they're not actually participating in anything
- 19:35Speaker 4: because they want a new contract.
- 19:37Speaker 3: So all right, So now we're into period three. They've
- 19:40Speaker 3: broken up to basically offense to our right, defense to
- 19:44Speaker 3: our left might be special.
- 19:46Speaker 1: So yeah, you're going to see some kickoff here. Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 1: you know, this is a little bit of a glimpse
- 19:50Speaker 1: inside what this new kickoff is going to look like.
- 19:54Speaker 1: We've seen some different kind of styles of ways that
- 19:57Speaker 1: they've approached it, but what the images speak for themselves. Yep,
- 20:02Speaker 1: and you're just kind of seeing, you know, they can't
- 20:04Speaker 1: move until the guy catches the ball.
- 20:06Speaker 3: So you know, I was I was confused when I
- 20:09Speaker 3: first heard the rule. I thought the line of scrimmage
- 20:12Speaker 3: was going to be closer to where the ball's being received.
- 20:15Speaker 3: It really still you still have some distance to you know,
- 20:19Speaker 3: to get down there from. So it's not so I
- 20:23Speaker 3: don't think there will be the breakaways that I thought
- 20:25Speaker 3: there would be if the line was closer, because I
- 20:30Speaker 3: think now there's time for the you know, for the defense,
- 20:35Speaker 3: for the kicking team to kind of see where the
- 20:38Speaker 3: receivers going and kind of adjust.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Now I can't I'm not sure if the videos get
- 20:43Speaker 1: are they doing the kickoffs right now? Yeah? But yeah,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you know there's an example of a ball on its
- 20:47Speaker 1: side and kind of kind of a squib kick, and
- 20:50Speaker 1: you can see Marcus Jones having a heck of a
- 20:52Speaker 1: time trying to feel it. Yeah, you know, that's something
- 20:55Speaker 1: they've been kind of experimenting with as well. So you
- 20:58Speaker 1: see the referees involved. I'm sure they're just as curious
- 21:00Speaker 1: as we are to see, you know, what teams are
- 21:03Speaker 1: gonna throw at them in these opening weeks. Uh, do
- 21:05Speaker 1: you go full bore in the preseason to figure out
- 21:08Speaker 1: how it works? Or do you feel like you know
- 21:10Speaker 1: and you maybe hold back a little bit for when
- 21:12Speaker 1: you get into the regular season. US just one of
- 21:14Speaker 1: those weird things in the NFL where all of a sudden,
- 21:16Speaker 1: there's gonna be the kickoffs are just gonna be different
- 21:18Speaker 1: this year. And yeah, I'm sure each team has their
- 21:21Speaker 1: own philosophy how they're gonna approach it.
- 21:22Speaker 7: It seems like the players are I don't know if
- 21:24Speaker 7: my mind's like it's also.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I can't hear you.
- 21:27Speaker 7: Yeah, it seemed like the players are excited about the
- 21:29Speaker 7: new rules.
- 21:29Speaker 6: I was laughing today when Gerd Mayo was like that,
- 21:33Speaker 6: Jelani Tavai was like, and.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Put me in.
- 21:35Speaker 7: I want to be involved in He's like, you gotta
- 21:36Speaker 7: get healthy beer. Yeah, So I'm wondering, just you know
- 21:39Speaker 7: how many other players are that excited about these new
- 21:41Speaker 7: rule changes.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, Jelani Tavai is bothering Girod to kick
- 21:45Speaker 4: off as a non kicker like the Chiefs have been doing.
- 21:48Speaker 4: But we've we've seen them experiment a lot with two returners,
- 21:52Speaker 4: and I that's gonna have to be the way you go,
- 21:56Speaker 4: at least for most teams. Because we saw Ryland I
- 21:59Speaker 4: think it was is that just kicked off one where
- 22:02Speaker 4: he angled it, you know, you.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Know, Mortar kicked it right to a spot.
- 22:06Speaker 4: And if teams are gonna do that and the returners
- 22:08Speaker 4: in the middle or the returners on the left hand
- 22:10Speaker 4: side trying to set up the return the kicker is
- 22:12Speaker 4: just going to kick the ball like a punt, directionally
- 22:14Speaker 4: away from where the returner is and now all of
- 22:16Speaker 4: a sudden, you're down inside the ten, down inside the
- 22:18Speaker 4: five if it's a good bound. So I think teams
- 22:21Speaker 4: are going to experiment with this two returner look, and
- 22:24Speaker 4: then the other thing I would say is just all
- 22:26Speaker 4: the different things you can do off of two returners
- 22:29Speaker 4: is really intriguing as well, because you can do reverses,
- 22:32Speaker 4: you can do fake reverses, the returner that doesn't get
- 22:35Speaker 4: the ball can turn into a lead blocker. You know,
- 22:37Speaker 4: there's all sorts of different type of schematic things that
- 22:40Speaker 4: that are gonna be fun and interesting teams that have
- 22:43Speaker 4: a risk.
- 22:43Speaker 6: And I was gonna say, I really like that two
- 22:45Speaker 6: returner idea, and I think that could be a way
- 22:46Speaker 6: that a guy like Jalen Rager makes this roster is
- 22:49Speaker 6: if you have Jalen Rager and Marcus Jones back there,
- 22:51Speaker 6: I think that could be a dynamic duo that could
- 22:53Speaker 6: make them really successful in.
- 22:54Speaker 1: This new rule.
- 22:55Speaker 3: But with the kicking team not being able to release
- 22:58Speaker 3: off the line of scrimmage until the ball is either
- 23:00Speaker 3: caught or hits the ground, I think you're guaranteed to
- 23:04Speaker 3: have a return at least to the twenty five.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Yeah it seems right, I mean, yeah, it would seem
- 23:08Speaker 1: that way. But you know, even just watching these couple here,
- 23:11Speaker 1: it's it's tough. It's tough to field it, and you
- 23:14Speaker 1: know what, you even if you have these grandiose plans
- 23:17Speaker 1: of how you're gonna use two returners. If the guy
- 23:20Speaker 1: can't cleanly feel the ball, it's it's hard to then
- 23:23Speaker 1: all right, now get up and run the you know.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Well that's a strategy maybe is like give us a
- 23:27Speaker 3: couple extra seconds, you know, to get down there, because
- 23:32Speaker 3: like I said, you can release once it hits the ground.
- 23:34Speaker 3: You don't have to wait until it's in the returner's hands, right,
- 23:37Speaker 3: So that gives you that couple extra seconds to get
- 23:40Speaker 3: down there, because without that, like I said, you're guaranteed
- 23:43Speaker 3: to be at least to the twenty five before anyone
- 23:46Speaker 3: you know, was even near them.
- 23:47Speaker 4: That's why, that's why I believe the best thing to
- 23:50Speaker 4: do is to hit those line drive mortar kicks that
- 23:54Speaker 4: they were just experimenting with and make the ball bounce,
- 23:57Speaker 4: because then the returner also then then we'll have to
- 23:59Speaker 4: corral it then get himself set up to run. Whereas
- 24:02Speaker 4: the kickoff coverage unit they can go as soon as
- 24:04Speaker 4: the ball hits the ground. I'm really fascinated to see
- 24:07Speaker 4: how they block it because you can't move until the
- 24:11Speaker 4: ball either hits the ground or the returner catches it.
- 24:14Speaker 4: And a lot of guys have their back to the returner,
- 24:17Speaker 4: so you don't know exactly how so someone's gonna have
- 24:19Speaker 4: to call it out on the line of scrimmage that
- 24:22Speaker 4: go type of signal. And what we've seen so far,
- 24:25Speaker 4: the ones that they've done in practice, is they've really
- 24:28Speaker 4: struggled to get that initial point of attack block and
- 24:31Speaker 4: there's one guy through that just every single time he's
- 24:34Speaker 4: just through the line of scrimmage because of how difficult
- 24:36Speaker 4: it is to get the angle, and you just see
- 24:38Speaker 4: it time and time again that the returners just met
- 24:42Speaker 4: right away. So that's why I still think that having
- 24:45Speaker 4: somebody back there that can dance a little bit like
- 24:47Speaker 4: a Marcus Jones, like a Pop Douglas, that has some
- 24:50Speaker 4: of that agility and that escapability is going to be
- 24:53Speaker 4: big because the straight line speed guy is just going
- 24:55Speaker 4: to run into a brick wall.
- 24:56Speaker 3: So the main reason they're doing this is, you know, health, right,
- 25:01Speaker 3: do you think that's actually going to accomplish that?
- 25:03Speaker 8: I mean, it seems like, I don't know, it's a
- 25:06Speaker 8: good question, just as much chance to get hurt on
- 25:07Speaker 8: this and.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Not statistically, how do we know because of the spring
- 25:12Speaker 4: leagues that have done it so far.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but they're not as fast and as big.
- 25:15Speaker 4: Right, but there's not a full you're talking about a
- 25:18Speaker 4: much smaller gap that you're running up.
- 25:20Speaker 1: That's the problem.
- 25:21Speaker 4: Is like it's almost like a mini car crash when
- 25:23Speaker 4: you go from you know, the thirty all the way
- 25:25Speaker 4: down the field. So there's a lot everybody's moving a
- 25:28Speaker 4: lot slower on this play than what they would on
- 25:31Speaker 4: a traditional NFL kickoff. So that's the idea. The concussion
- 25:34Speaker 4: numbers in the spring leagues are way way down compared
- 25:37Speaker 4: to the traditional NFL rule kickoff. So their early returns
- 25:42Speaker 4: from what they've done it in different leagues suggests that
- 25:44Speaker 4: it's it's going to limit injuries significantly.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Okay, well we'll see. I was just going to point
- 25:50Speaker 1: out Fred. One more thing that we've noticed before is
- 25:52Speaker 1: right now you have Juju Smith Schuster and Taekwon Thornton
- 25:55Speaker 1: working just with Tyler Hughes right now, so you know,
- 25:58Speaker 1: the offense down there seems like they're kind of working
- 26:00Speaker 1: on screen game. But these are two guys that, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 1: talk about a really loaded wide receipt. I don't want
- 26:06Speaker 1: to say loaded in terms of, like you know, maybe
- 26:07Speaker 1: not the talent part, but loaded with bodies right now,
- 26:10Speaker 1: at least two veteran guys who you brought some young
- 26:13Speaker 1: guys in. You signed kJ Osborne. Clearly these guys right
- 26:16Speaker 1: now don't play special teams. So you know, Taekwon had
- 26:20Speaker 1: had a pretty good few OTA sessions. I mean, he's
- 26:23Speaker 1: made some plays. We saw it last year too, but
- 26:25Speaker 1: I think he's a guy wants to keep that momentum
- 26:27Speaker 1: going love to see. I mean Juju showed up a
- 26:29Speaker 1: couple times last OTA two. So you know, just two
- 26:32Speaker 1: veterans that feels like their backs are a little bit
- 26:34Speaker 1: against the wall and they need to have strong days
- 26:37Speaker 1: every I think every time they come out here.
- 26:38Speaker 6: An you know, I've singled them out as my odd
- 26:41Speaker 6: men out. I feel like all off season long in
- 26:42Speaker 6: terms of I see those two as the potential to
- 26:45Speaker 6: not to make the roster when it comes down to
- 26:47Speaker 6: the final fifty three. And I think they're going to
- 26:49Speaker 6: have to be consistent, not just one day in OTAs,
- 26:52Speaker 6: but the entire camp in order for them to have
- 26:54Speaker 6: a chance.
- 26:55Speaker 4: They have seen Taekwon as a gunner on special teams
- 26:59Speaker 4: a little bit, but with his frame, you worry about
- 27:02Speaker 4: injuries happening from him playing that spot. But we should
- 27:06Speaker 4: say not that, you know, I know, we're spending a
- 27:07Speaker 4: lot of time on special teams. So that's what they're
- 27:09Speaker 4: doing right now. Without Matthew Slater, there is a wide
- 27:12Speaker 4: open competition there for the other gunner spot. I'm sure
- 27:16Speaker 4: assuming Brendan Schooler is going to be on one side there,
- 27:18Speaker 4: but on the other side that there's going to be
- 27:21Speaker 4: an opportunity there for somebody to take over for Slater.
- 27:24Speaker 1: I don't see it with Taekwon.
- 27:25Speaker 4: I just don't see the fit with his frame, and
- 27:28Speaker 4: I think he's going to get jammed a lot and
- 27:30Speaker 4: not be able to make a huge impact as a gunner.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But if you want to talk about him having a
- 27:35Speaker 1: role on.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Special teams at all, that's probably where you're gonna find
- 27:38Speaker 4: himself on the field in that phase of the game.
- 27:40Speaker 6: And speaking of frame, I could see that being the
- 27:43Speaker 6: reason why that Juju ends up making the team because
- 27:45Speaker 6: of his frame and his ability to block and help
- 27:48Speaker 6: other things with the offense that EVP is trying to run.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I think Juju's spot is big on what Kendrick
- 27:53Speaker 4: Bourne's health is to start the year. If Kendrick Bourne
- 27:56Speaker 4: has to start the year on IR pup then maybe
- 27:59Speaker 4: that opens up this bought for juju. But if you
- 28:01Speaker 4: have juju, you have Kendrick Born healthy, you have Jalen Polk,
- 28:05Speaker 4: even Javon Baker a little bit kJ Osborne. It's a
- 28:08Speaker 4: lot of the same type of receiver and we're pretty
- 28:10Speaker 4: redundant there. So I wonder if how much Born's health
- 28:14Speaker 4: will play a role in all of this.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So doing some punt here out of the end zone.
- 28:19Speaker 1: You know, again, just talk about Adrian Phillips. I mean
- 28:22Speaker 1: a guy you know, nobody's really mentioned him, but you
- 28:24Speaker 1: know it did play a pretty sizeable special teams role.
- 28:26Speaker 1: You know, it's the up back on the on the
- 28:28Speaker 1: punt team. You have Marty mop who you got Jalen
- 28:30Speaker 1: Hawkins in there now, so you know, it's not just
- 28:32Speaker 1: Slater's role on special teams. It's a number of different
- 28:36Speaker 1: roles including you know, Chris Board's gone, I mean a
- 28:39Speaker 1: lot of you know, Cody Davis, these guys that played
- 28:42Speaker 1: extensive special corning roles. So you know, Paul not here,
- 28:45Speaker 1: So just to give him a shout out, you know,
- 28:47Speaker 1: it's like just getting Mapoo involved in stuff like that,
- 28:50Speaker 1: you know, getting him on the field as much as possible.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I don't know how the safety position is going to
- 28:54Speaker 1: play out, but you know, again, it goes back to
- 28:56Speaker 1: the first point, young players having an opportunity, but not
- 29:00Speaker 1: just special teams. Guys like Marty Mapu, guy that you
- 29:02Speaker 1: want to see on defense that you know it's gonna
- 29:04Speaker 1: probably play some special teams as well now and hopefully
- 29:07Speaker 1: that helps give them, you know, some development. Yeah.
- 29:10Speaker 4: I asked a Girodd about Marty Maphu and he consistently
- 29:14Speaker 4: mentioned that the versatility is going to be big for him,
- 29:17Speaker 4: where if you're paying a heavy run team, you're probably
- 29:20Speaker 4: not gonna play him at the second level of the defense,
- 29:22Speaker 4: but maybe in other weeks where you're playing more of
- 29:24Speaker 4: a spread offense, he could fit there as a traditional linebacker.
- 29:28Speaker 4: When they scouted him, he said that they viewed him
- 29:30Speaker 4: in three different spots potentially like a big nickel role
- 29:33Speaker 4: in the slot, safety and inside linebacker, and he just
- 29:37Speaker 4: said that it's going to be a matchup base thing
- 29:39Speaker 4: that they're gonna move him around and use him as.
- 29:42Speaker 1: A chess piece.
- 29:43Speaker 4: That sounds great in theory, but you have to be
- 29:45Speaker 4: able to hang your hat on one thing. I feel
- 29:48Speaker 4: like in this league to make it consistently. So it's
- 29:51Speaker 4: cool to be a jack of all trades, but you
- 29:53Speaker 4: also have to have something that this is what I'm
- 29:55Speaker 4: really good at, and this is where I go on
- 29:57Speaker 4: third in money, you know the games on the line,
- 29:59Speaker 4: that's our corner.
- 30:00Speaker 1: They're using that callahan sled. Now. Yeah, it doesn't look fun.
- 30:03Speaker 3: You can see it's it's a little bit tougher than
- 30:06Speaker 3: the normal sled.
- 30:09Speaker 1: Yeah. As soon as you get too high, it stops. Yeah,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and that's you know, the whole thing with That's why
- 30:16Speaker 1: I was a terrible offensive and defensive lineman because I'm
- 30:19Speaker 1: too high and every single time got underneath me and
- 30:22Speaker 1: just pushed me right back.
- 30:23Speaker 4: It's not it's not the skinny frame.
- 30:27Speaker 8: Quarterbacks are doing some target practice in the middle of
- 30:30Speaker 8: the field.
- 30:31Speaker 1: It's cool. They have colors on there. Now.
- 30:33Speaker 4: They have also been doing numbers at different times, so
- 30:36Speaker 4: they call it out in the drop. They don't tell
- 30:39Speaker 4: you beforehand, so they'll go through the drop and then
- 30:41Speaker 4: a VP will say blue, red, white, Right, I think
- 30:44Speaker 4: it's the three colors, and then they have to make
- 30:46Speaker 4: a split second decision a reaction to throw it in
- 30:50Speaker 4: the right target.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Yep, you got red, blue on the outside whites in
- 30:53Speaker 3: the middle.
- 30:56Speaker 4: They said they're keeping track who's winning. Okay, Bailey's he
- 31:00Speaker 4: claims that he's winning. Shocking, okay, yeah, somebody there.
- 31:06Speaker 1: I mean, and for those tracking reps, it does seem
- 31:08Speaker 1: like Bailey's he's going sun.
- 31:12Speaker 4: They read they said, sorry.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Drake made demoted already. What happened? My gosh, kid, I
- 31:20Speaker 1: kid uh. I am curious too. Though Javon Baker warmed
- 31:23Speaker 1: up last week, didn't really practice, I'm curious if he's
- 31:27Speaker 1: gonna be participating much at all today.
- 31:29Speaker 4: Yeah, it sounds like there's a few of those guys still.
- 31:32Speaker 4: You mentioned Taki Taki. Yeah, Girod mentioned Lani Tavai as
- 31:35Speaker 4: someone that's a little bit banged up for this time
- 31:38Speaker 4: of year. So they're gonna be a couple of guys
- 31:41Speaker 4: that aren't going to be a full go.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I think it's just like and then, and I know
- 31:44Speaker 1: it's spring, and it's you know, we're in June here,
- 31:47Speaker 1: but just think with a rookie receiver loaded room, every
- 31:51Speaker 1: time you're missing reps, it's just it just isn't great.
- 31:53Speaker 1: So I just love to see Baker up back out
- 31:56Speaker 1: there as a SAP.
- 31:57Speaker 6: But I like that you mentioned that, dude, because I
- 31:59Speaker 6: feel like that's why Taekwon is where he is today,
- 32:01Speaker 6: Like he's just been hurt.
- 32:02Speaker 1: All the Harry I mean, you know, like not to
- 32:04Speaker 1: say that, like, you know, Nikhil Harry or Taekwon would
- 32:07Speaker 1: be off to a great career, you know, had they
- 32:10Speaker 1: not gotten hurt early on. But it just it just
- 32:13Speaker 1: doesn't help. And the guys that, you know, like Jacobe
- 32:15Speaker 1: Myers who was just always out there and just kept
- 32:19Speaker 1: stacking it day after day after day, and you know,
- 32:22Speaker 1: earning the quarterbacks trust, earning the coaches trust. What do
- 32:25Speaker 1: they always say, like, you know, availability Trump's ability, Like
- 32:29Speaker 1: that's you know, that's such a big thing. So hopefully
- 32:32Speaker 1: Baker's able to get back out there, you know, but
- 32:34Speaker 1: Polk's been out there. He's been out there plenty, and
- 32:36Speaker 1: you know he's been one that has gotten plenty of reps.
- 32:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd like to see a little bit more out
- 32:39Speaker 4: of Polk.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah, and some of the team drills.
- 32:42Speaker 4: One of the big things you worried about him was
- 32:44Speaker 4: just speeding separation ability, and yeah, like his skill set
- 32:48Speaker 4: will probably shine a little bit more once the pads
- 32:50Speaker 4: come on and can be a little bit more physical
- 32:51Speaker 4: and win at the catch point, but still with the
- 32:54Speaker 4: receiver when you're in non contact, non padded practices, you'd
- 32:58Speaker 4: like to see some flashes from him to be able
- 33:00Speaker 4: to get open and create some separation when guys can't
- 33:03Speaker 4: really get their hands on them or do much physically
- 33:06Speaker 4: right now, so he has been a little bit quiet.
- 33:09Speaker 4: I'm still thinking that he's probably more in that Jacobe
- 33:11Speaker 4: Meyers school of training. Camp is not really gonna be
- 33:14Speaker 4: where he's gonna shine and then we're gonna get into
- 33:16Speaker 4: the games and he's gonna make all these plays, but
- 33:18Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a little bit. You know, he's in that
- 33:21Speaker 1: rookie spot right now where there are veterans out there
- 33:25Speaker 1: that are kind of taking the top reps. And you know,
- 33:27Speaker 1: you see Polk and Baker trying to develop that chemistry
- 33:30Speaker 1: with May but hard to kind of earn it with Brissett,
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know, and limited opportunities you're kind of rotating through
- 33:37Speaker 1: the quarterbacks. You know. It just love to see him
- 33:39Speaker 1: get some consistent reps with one of the quarterback who
- 33:41Speaker 1: starts to, you know, play into what he's good at
- 33:44Speaker 1: and you know, find the spots that he likes to
- 33:46Speaker 1: get the ball start to see some of that stuff.
- 33:49Speaker 1: But I'd love to see him outside too, like just
- 33:51Speaker 1: to see you know, all these guys, like you said earlier,
- 33:53Speaker 1: Evan are inside kind of receivers. I mean most of them.
- 33:56Speaker 1: It's like, oh, well he can play outside, but most
- 33:58Speaker 1: of them are inside guys, but him and I'd love
- 34:00Speaker 1: to see them just you know, be able to get
- 34:02Speaker 1: outside a little bit, get off the line. I mean,
- 34:03Speaker 1: I think Baker's movement skills have been I have made
- 34:06Speaker 1: an impression on Would you guys agree?
- 34:08Speaker 3: You know, we have two practice fields in front of us,
- 34:10Speaker 3: and the one to our left has been totally devoted
- 34:12Speaker 3: to special teams so far. Would you agree that that's
- 34:15Speaker 3: something we haven't seen before, that they've devoted one field
- 34:18Speaker 3: to special teams for this long Yeah, lot of practice
- 34:21Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 34:22Speaker 1: I mean they're kind of long. Yeah, they're kind of
- 34:23Speaker 1: going through it. I mean they did kickoff. Now they're
- 34:25Speaker 1: doing punt. We'll see what they get into now. But no,
- 34:28Speaker 1: I think that's a you know, pretty good observation list.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Like Gotcha does have his jersey on down there now too,
- 34:33Speaker 1: So I don't know what with that the kickoff and
- 34:35Speaker 1: roll the.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Time spent on the kickoff role will be interesting. Yeah,
- 34:38Speaker 4: I feel like you have to devote a little bit
- 34:40Speaker 4: extra practice time this offseason to the kickoff role. Then
- 34:43Speaker 4: maybe that is why it was bleeding into the punt
- 34:46Speaker 4: period and why it lasted a little bit longer.
- 34:48Speaker 6: And also special teams last year was not very good
- 34:51Speaker 6: at all, and so when you have a new rule,
- 34:53Speaker 6: they weren't really that good last year. Plus all those
- 34:55Speaker 6: people that we talked about but aren't on special teams anymore. Yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 6: I feel like you need to dedicate this time for
- 35:00Speaker 6: it and.
- 35:00Speaker 3: The new special teams. Pointer Jeremy Springer, he's he's a
- 35:04Speaker 3: high energy guy. He's a high energy guy.
- 35:06Speaker 7: So definitely energiz.
- 35:08Speaker 3: I met him in the spring at our coaches clinic
- 35:11Speaker 3: and I asked him, I said, you know, whether at
- 35:14Speaker 3: any of your other stops, like how often do you
- 35:16Speaker 3: have to lobby for more time and practice like all
- 35:19Speaker 3: the time, all the time? You know, So that's a
- 35:23Speaker 3: good indication that he might be winning those arguments.
- 35:26Speaker 1: He looks a lot more in his element. I know
- 35:27Speaker 1: when we first met him back in like February, he
- 35:29Speaker 1: did not look like he was enjoying the local weather.
- 35:31Speaker 1: But now it seems like he's got his his big
- 35:34Speaker 1: son hat on and in his short so I think
- 35:37Speaker 1: he sees a little bit more in his happy place
- 35:39Speaker 1: now than he was in the winner.
- 35:40Speaker 4: I've yet to come across a special teams coach that
- 35:43Speaker 4: isn't a ball Avner.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Oh yeah right.
- 35:44Speaker 4: I even cam Accord, for all of the faults, was
- 35:47Speaker 4: a firecracker on the field.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Coffee mainline.
- 35:50Speaker 4: In order to be one of those guys that's in
- 35:52Speaker 4: the weeds like that on special teams, you have to
- 35:54Speaker 4: be a little bit of a nun.
- 35:55Speaker 3: I think you see some of the running backs doing
- 35:57Speaker 3: some footwork drills with the bad.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it seems like this is a little bit of
- 36:04Speaker 1: a new thing too, where they throw some tunes on
- 36:06Speaker 1: when uh, you know, when they're getting ready to warm up.
- 36:09Speaker 1: These kind of little team individual not individual team warm
- 36:12Speaker 1: up drills. A little easier to move when you gotta
- 36:15Speaker 1: beat right. Yeah, sure, keep it up, keep it but
- 36:19Speaker 1: again Baker, so Baker is here bringing up the rear
- 36:23Speaker 1: in these wide receiver drills, which we'll see these sticks
- 36:26Speaker 1: than they did last week.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Yeah, a good sign, Steve Belichick. I'm not I'm sorry
- 36:40Speaker 3: not Steve Brian Belichick.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Did have Steve here last week, right, did he was visiting? Yeah?
- 36:48Speaker 1: He brought some of his uh fellow coaches from Washington
- 36:57Speaker 1: last Yeah. M hmm.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Watching the quarterback's throw, I still feel like this is
- 37:04Speaker 4: the best look that we're gonna get of Drake May's
- 37:08Speaker 4: mechanics for a while.
- 37:09Speaker 1: And I do see some improvements.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not gonna tell you that it's the
- 37:13Speaker 4: world's difference, but you see his front arm is a
- 37:18Speaker 4: little bit more tucked in and it was when we
- 37:20Speaker 4: first got here. I think they've worked hard on that
- 37:23Speaker 4: to try to shorten up the release in the whole emotion. Yeah,
- 37:26Speaker 4: and his footwork. I think it's been better than what
- 37:29Speaker 4: a lot of us expected it to be. Obviously, there's
- 37:32Speaker 4: no live pass rush yet, so we'll see. But you
- 37:34Speaker 4: can see the arm is more like wishbone now, whereas
- 37:37Speaker 4: before when he would come up open, his whole shoulders
- 37:40Speaker 4: and everything kind of shrug up together like that, and
- 37:43Speaker 4: it just created a much longer throwing motion. So you
- 37:46Speaker 4: can see some of the things that they're trying to
- 37:48Speaker 4: do to tighten it up just a little bit. You
- 37:51Speaker 4: don't want to tweak it too much because then you
- 37:53Speaker 4: get into a position where he can break completely if
- 37:55Speaker 4: you're messing with too many different elements of his throwing motion.
- 37:59Speaker 4: But you definitely can see the little tweaks that they're
- 38:01Speaker 4: trying to make.
- 38:01Speaker 6: So how long do you think it takes to develop
- 38:04Speaker 6: these good habits like completely, like get rid of the
- 38:07Speaker 6: old habits and then always do the.
- 38:10Speaker 4: Work I feel like you can do in an off season.
- 38:13Speaker 4: But like I said, you want to start from the
- 38:15Speaker 4: ground up, and that's what they're doing. They're working on
- 38:17Speaker 4: his feet first, to time up his feet, with his eyes,
- 38:20Speaker 4: with the drop, with the routes that are being run.
- 38:22Speaker 3: And the thing is like, it'll look good now, but
- 38:25Speaker 3: the key is when it's real and it's pressure, does
- 38:29Speaker 3: he revert back to his old habits, which is what
- 38:32Speaker 3: a lot of guys do.
- 38:32Speaker 8: They go back to what's comfortable under pressure.
- 38:36Speaker 4: Absolutely yeah, And I think if you start to mess
- 38:38Speaker 4: with too many different elements and one fell swoop, that's
- 38:42Speaker 4: when you also risk him just completely coming apart mechanically.
- 38:46Speaker 4: So I like the fact that they're starting with the feet.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Let's focus on that and let's not worry so much
- 38:52Speaker 4: about the upper body yet, and then they'll get to
- 38:54Speaker 4: the upper body maybe next off season is the upper
- 38:56Speaker 4: body off season, you know, so you have to work
- 38:58Speaker 4: in almost stages because you don't want to just throw
- 39:01Speaker 4: it all at him at once because then he's got
- 39:04Speaker 4: a lot on his plate at that point.
- 39:05Speaker 3: And you know, honestly, though, when you look at mey,
- 39:09Speaker 3: we're nitpicking. You know, it looks fine, you know, but
- 39:12Speaker 3: like you can always improve and if you can, you know,
- 39:16Speaker 3: get a split second faster release, then do it. And
- 39:20Speaker 3: if you can get your footwork, you know, your base
- 39:23Speaker 3: a little bit better, then do it. But when you
- 39:26Speaker 3: look at him, he looks fine, but like I said,
- 39:29Speaker 3: there's always room for improvement.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Yeah, last week he threw that interception where he threw
- 39:33Speaker 4: it over a guy's head and the corner is his
- 39:36Speaker 4: parked right behind him. Those are the plays that you
- 39:39Speaker 4: saw in U N see that you want to see
- 39:41Speaker 4: and cut down on. And that's where the footwork comes
- 39:43Speaker 4: into it. It's more of a timing thing and a
- 39:45Speaker 4: rhythm thing than it is like his feet are jumbled
- 39:48Speaker 4: up or sloppy. So if you can get him synced up,
- 39:52Speaker 4: then when you see it all come together, feet, eyes,
- 39:54Speaker 4: throwing motion, all of it come together. He makes them
- 39:56Speaker 4: really pretty downfield throws. It just got to be a
- 39:59Speaker 4: little bit more concer.
- 40:00Speaker 8: And so right now they're doing handoff run to the
- 40:03Speaker 8: right and then roll out to the left.
- 40:06Speaker 1: This is a staple. Uh yeah, you see. I mean
- 40:09Speaker 1: even you go back to Green Bay days and you
- 40:12Speaker 1: see them doing this drill with Aaron Rodgers. I mean,
- 40:14Speaker 1: this is it.
- 40:15Speaker 4: What I love about this drill is that you have
- 40:17Speaker 4: the handoff exchange and then the coach is actually flipping
- 40:20Speaker 4: it to the quarterback and that's allowing him to make
- 40:23Speaker 4: the throw. So this is all bootleg stuff. Yeah, all
- 40:26Speaker 4: the bootlegs and all the moving pockets. So when we
- 40:28Speaker 4: talk about the offensive line, and I know everybody's concerned
- 40:31Speaker 4: about the offensive line, but especially with a quarterback like
- 40:34Speaker 4: Drake who can move as well as he can, they're
- 40:36Speaker 4: going to move the pocket a ton on first and
- 40:38Speaker 4: second down. So you're not going to get into a
- 40:40Speaker 4: lot of first down situations in this offense where the
- 40:43Speaker 4: quarterback's just going to be sitting there in the pocket
- 40:45Speaker 4: with the eleven guys coming after him. Right, you know,
- 40:48Speaker 4: it's gonna be a lot more smoking mirrors and moving
- 40:51Speaker 4: pockets like this. And he's so good at throwing on
- 40:53Speaker 4: the move, and he's so athletic that it's gonna fit
- 40:55Speaker 4: him really well.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys clocked it yet, but
- 40:57Speaker 1: Julian Edelman is here. He's currently standing down to the
- 41:01Speaker 1: goal line of the left field with Matthew Slater. I
- 41:04Speaker 1: did not clock that. Yeah, he's Jewels talking talking to
- 41:07Speaker 1: Slater down there at the at the pylon at the
- 41:11Speaker 1: goal line. So a lot of guys in town for what, Yeah,
- 41:14Speaker 1: for Tom Brady Night. Yeah, production ceremony Wednesday night. Yeah,
- 41:18Speaker 1: we'll have that live on Patriots dot com. If you're
- 41:21Speaker 1: not going to be here in person, it'll actually Chad
- 41:25Speaker 1: Graft from The Athletic had a little story about you
- 41:28Speaker 1: know what to look forward to. He had it starting
- 41:31Speaker 1: at seven. It's actually going to start around five thirty
- 41:34Speaker 1: on Patriots dot com with the red carpet, So we'll
- 41:37Speaker 1: be live, you know, five five thirty whenever that starts,
- 41:40Speaker 1: all the way through until around nine thirty on Patriots
- 41:43Speaker 1: dot com, so you'll see everything. Oh yeah, so that's
- 41:46Speaker 1: gonna be pretty cool.
- 41:47Speaker 3: And and like I said, Edelman's here, and there's one hundred,
- 41:50Speaker 3: like hundreds of players that are going to be here,
- 41:54Speaker 3: plus some special guests.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So it's going to be a great night.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Uh, whether you're here a watching it, UH streaming, You're
- 42:02Speaker 3: going to really enjoy this.
- 42:03Speaker 1: So can't wait. Can't wait.
- 42:05Speaker 3: You can call our call or write in web radio
- 42:09Speaker 3: at Patriots dot com. Is the email eight five to five,
- 42:13Speaker 3: Patch five hundred is the ACE ticket hut line people
- 42:16Speaker 3: writing in already, Jared and Vermont. Do you think a
- 42:19Speaker 3: few veterans would have skipped these practices if Belichick were
- 42:22Speaker 3: still here? My feeling is yes. I wonder if having
- 42:25Speaker 3: a players coach like Mayo benefits management in the sense
- 42:28Speaker 3: that players may feel a little more obligated to do
- 42:32Speaker 3: the coach a solid and not play hardball over contracts,
- 42:35Speaker 3: at least in the early stages.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Well, I think Evan spoke to that. I mean, I
- 42:39Speaker 1: don't you know, I don't know anybody who wants to
- 42:41Speaker 1: give away money just to not comments. It's a lot
- 42:43Speaker 1: more about the hold in these days. I don't really
- 42:47Speaker 1: necessarily see guys as skipping on Bill. I mean, I
- 42:50Speaker 1: do think that there's a lot of value that this
- 42:52Speaker 1: is a new coach with the new system, and you really,
- 42:56Speaker 1: you know, you just you want to re establish the culture.
- 42:58Speaker 1: And I think they've done a great job this offseason
- 43:00Speaker 1: of identifying those players and you know, extending bar More
- 43:04Speaker 1: and Dugger and you know, really kind of re establishing
- 43:07Speaker 1: a corps. So I don't know, I don't really see
- 43:09Speaker 1: the candidates to that. We'll be like, now I'm not
- 43:12Speaker 1: showing up because these guys want to get paid. So
- 43:14Speaker 1: you know, Judon's here, I'm sure he's probably having talks
- 43:16Speaker 1: behind the scenes about, you know, wanting to get a
- 43:19Speaker 1: bunch of money, and gotschall might be asking for that too.
- 43:21Speaker 1: So the only way you can do that is you
- 43:23Speaker 1: come here without getting fined.
- 43:24Speaker 8: You know, all fairness. Even with Bill that only happened
- 43:27Speaker 8: a couple times.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Like Duce said, it's been more pulled ins where guys come,
- 43:32Speaker 3: they don't really participate, but they're here when they're looking
- 43:36Speaker 3: for a new contract.
- 43:37Speaker 1: What was the thing with Guy? Was it last year
- 43:39Speaker 1: with Guy where like but he can't he was at
- 43:41Speaker 1: these right, like he came to these But then you
- 43:43Speaker 1: know it's it's more like Judon last year where you're like,
- 43:46Speaker 1: why is he not participating? Some days you know it's
- 43:49Speaker 1: just this weird stuff that you kind of notice.
- 43:51Speaker 8: But yeah, and then as soon as he got that extension.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Oh yes, yeah, right, I feel better and now he's
- 43:57Speaker 1: in there. And plus you have to balance these things
- 43:59Speaker 1: with you know, Jude On and Gotcha being two established
- 44:03Speaker 1: veterans that you know you should probably be taking strides
- 44:06Speaker 1: at this point in the season, not to put them
- 44:08Speaker 1: in harms way. Valuable valuable guys.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Yep, there's a lot to be said for a lot
- 44:14Speaker 4: of new coaches on this staff. Even as a veteran player,
- 44:17Speaker 4: you have to find a role under this regime. It's
- 44:20Speaker 4: a totally different regime, and you have to make sure
- 44:23Speaker 4: that you have a role still on this team. As
- 44:26Speaker 4: much as we all love Matthew Judon, there have been
- 44:29Speaker 4: trade conversations about Matthew Judon that we've heard rumors, yeah
- 44:33Speaker 4: that you know, maybe he could be somebody that is traded.
- 44:36Speaker 4: So if he plays hardball, then that that could be
- 44:38Speaker 4: a possibility that opens the door a little bit more.
- 44:41Speaker 4: We're worlds apart on contract here. You know, we're not
- 44:45Speaker 4: gonna we're not going to find a middle ground on
- 44:46Speaker 4: a deal. So this is what we're gonna do with Judon.
- 44:49Speaker 4: I don't think that there would have been any more
- 44:52Speaker 4: hold out.
- 44:52Speaker 8: What would you guys, do with Judon, would you.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Know I get in two years? Yeah, I give him
- 44:59Speaker 1: a bump this year, stend him in the next year.
- 45:01Speaker 1: I have a two year deal and give myself at
- 45:03Speaker 1: least the chance this offseason to really try to, you know,
- 45:06Speaker 1: fill that void that he's going to inevitably, you know,
- 45:09Speaker 1: get I mean, it's an important, important position. You know,
- 45:12Speaker 1: I really do like Anthony Jennings, but I think he's
- 45:15Speaker 1: you know, him and Uce are are part of a
- 45:17Speaker 1: mosaic that you have to put together along the edge.
- 45:19Speaker 1: It's not like Judah, where's He's a guy that you
- 45:22Speaker 1: can play three downs and you don't really have much
- 45:24Speaker 1: concerns about him so long term position.
- 45:27Speaker 4: You worry a lot about their competitiveness as a team overall.
- 45:31Speaker 4: If you take the Janga piece, that's Matthew Judon out
- 45:33Speaker 4: of the puzzle, and I understand that we're not necessarily
- 45:36Speaker 4: talking about them winning the Super Bowl or anything like that,
- 45:38Speaker 4: but just having a team week in and week out
- 45:41Speaker 4: that has something to play for it is maybe a
- 45:44Speaker 4: starting point for this team right now. And if you
- 45:46Speaker 4: take Judon out of that pass rush, I just don't
- 45:49Speaker 4: know where you go from there. In terms of secondary
- 45:52Speaker 4: pass rush outside of Christian Barmore, it's just going to
- 45:54Speaker 4: be really tough. So I think they almost owe it
- 45:56Speaker 4: to themselves and owe it to the team to keep
- 45:59Speaker 4: jude On around at least till the trade deadline. If
- 46:02Speaker 4: it's if they're one and eight at the trade deadline
- 46:04Speaker 4: or something like that and some contender is offering you
- 46:07Speaker 4: something for Judon and you haven't reached that extension, then
- 46:10Speaker 4: maybe that's when you.
- 46:11Speaker 7: Entertained that I was gonna agree with.
- 46:12Speaker 6: I'm like, we saw what happened when judonk got hurt
- 46:14Speaker 6: last year and how it kind of inflated the defense,
- 46:17Speaker 6: like on the field and also in the locker room.
- 46:19Speaker 6: And then also you didn't draft anybody to develop under
- 46:23Speaker 6: behind him either, So now it's like you have to
- 46:25Speaker 6: keep him for at least another year or two.
- 46:27Speaker 7: So hopefully you can drop someone next year, yeah, and
- 46:29Speaker 7: have them develop and then grow into someone.
- 46:32Speaker 3: The last thing you hate is to see the defense,
- 46:35Speaker 3: you know, regress. We want to at least keep it
- 46:38Speaker 3: at the level it was last year. Now I get
- 46:40Speaker 3: this is a tougher schedule this year, so you may
- 46:43Speaker 3: not get the point results that you had last year
- 46:46Speaker 3: where you were giving up yeah, you know, seven to
- 46:48Speaker 3: ten points. But you know, from a just performance, you
- 46:51Speaker 3: want to try to say, okay, defense is fine, let's
- 46:54Speaker 3: focus on the offense and you take june On out
- 46:57Speaker 3: of that mix, like like Eman said that Jenga piece
- 46:59Speaker 3: and you know who knows what can happen well.
- 47:01Speaker 1: And also I mean I'll set it with an offense
- 47:03Speaker 1: that can actually move the ball a little bit, you know,
- 47:05Speaker 1: I mean, just go from the worst offense in the
- 47:07Speaker 1: league that you know, isn't picking up first downs, is
- 47:10Speaker 1: putting the defense in arms way, isn't scoring points the
- 47:13Speaker 1: defense is like, man, we got to score ourselves if
- 47:15Speaker 1: we're going to win. So I think as much as
- 47:17Speaker 1: you know the difficulty might increase with a tougher schedule,
- 47:20Speaker 1: you know, with a complimentary offense, it can help a
- 47:22Speaker 1: lot of things. But you know, I think there's certainly
- 47:26Speaker 1: points to make on the defense of you know, turnover
- 47:29Speaker 1: kind of drop off. We talk about teams to force
- 47:31Speaker 1: a lot of fumbles being real tough. They weren't one
- 47:33Speaker 1: of those teams last year. And I say that as
- 47:35Speaker 1: a Jabrill Pepper super fan. But you know one name
- 47:39Speaker 1: I would just throw out is is O'Shane him Andez,
- 47:42Speaker 1: who you know, isn't experienced NFL guy. I think he
- 47:46Speaker 1: had six and a half sacks as a rookie with
- 47:48Speaker 1: the Giants. He's kind of fought some injuries, he's been
- 47:50Speaker 1: a bit player. He's been more of a designated pass
- 47:53Speaker 1: rusher kind of guy with the Giants. But he's kind
- 47:56Speaker 1: of to me that fourth guy after the Big three.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Does he have anything to offer? I mean six four
- 48:01Speaker 1: two fifty good size. I mean that's you know, what
- 48:03Speaker 1: they usually look for in one of those edge guys.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Without Jude on here, you haven't seen uche. Even Jennings
- 48:08Speaker 1: missed a couple of practices, you saw a lot of
- 48:10Speaker 1: him and as getting some opportunities. So he's just a
- 48:14Speaker 1: guy I would. I would definitely I'm going to be
- 48:15Speaker 1: keeping an eye on here as we get into the
- 48:17Speaker 1: summer to see if he has any kind of you know,
- 48:19Speaker 1: pass rush juice. Even if he's just like he's going
- 48:22Speaker 1: right now watching him do a rep right now, even
- 48:24Speaker 1: if he's just like an oucha and and he's only
- 48:26Speaker 1: going to be a one trick pony, I think that's
- 48:28Speaker 1: a trick that they need more of.
- 48:30Speaker 8: Carrie writes in I must know where to Deuce get
- 48:32Speaker 8: the Patriots sunglasses from?
- 48:34Speaker 1: And where can we get the Patriots pro shop? I
- 48:36Speaker 1: believe they are eight dollars because I lose sunglasses every
- 48:40Speaker 1: other day, so I don't invest in. I just get
- 48:42Speaker 1: cheap o's wherever I can. But we were saying maybe
- 48:45Speaker 1: we should get some pit vipers for the Content squad
- 48:48Speaker 1: and training camp this year, you know, like if we
- 48:50Speaker 1: all had matching that you mean hard O glass, Parto glass, Yes, no,
- 48:54Speaker 1: hard O heart O Content team glasses. Are they sponsors?
- 48:58Speaker 1: Are they? I don't think so? But we can talk
- 49:00Speaker 1: to him.
- 49:00Speaker 7: We should get some coach Prime some glasses, you know,
- 49:03Speaker 7: the ones that he wears.
- 49:04Speaker 1: Okay, I like that we should be wearing.
- 49:05Speaker 8: Are they be dazzled now they're dazzled?
- 49:10Speaker 3: They're not?
- 49:11Speaker 1: Do you like some be dazzled stuff? Uh?
- 49:14Speaker 9: You know what.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Do you or? Do you not?
- 49:21Speaker 3: Easy to drink, easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official
- 49:24Speaker 3: beer sponsor of the New Eland Patriots. When you're bedazzling,
- 49:28Speaker 3: you can have your bud Light.
- 49:31Speaker 8: What do we got going?
- 49:32Speaker 1: Comes to the owner, oh the st r KK taking
- 49:35Speaker 1: a trip out to r KK coming out to the
- 49:37Speaker 1: field the boys, as I call him, Big Boss Man,
- 49:41Speaker 1: big boss man. Fred is boss Man. He's big boss Yeah,
- 49:45Speaker 1: he's lower lower like the final boss Man. I'm a
- 49:48Speaker 1: little little boss man, little baby boss ah man.
- 49:54Speaker 8: So yeah, did anybody ask your rod about the refs.
- 49:56Speaker 1: I don't know if they come out.
- 49:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the refs are. The refs are here, the
- 49:59Speaker 4: reft here in town. And he said that he doesn't
- 50:02Speaker 4: want them to be afraid to throw flags. You want
- 50:04Speaker 4: them to be involved in practice. So we'll see some
- 50:08Speaker 4: of that. We see a chain gang. Don't know how
- 50:10Speaker 4: much longer we're going to be able to say that, right,
- 50:12Speaker 4: So for the time being, we have a chain game.
- 50:15Speaker 1: Now. Yeah, I like the lasers. I like that you
- 50:20Speaker 1: like a laser. I love it because it drives me nuts.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Micro chips the amount of times.
- 50:25Speaker 4: I see the ball spotted it correctly, and those inches matter,
- 50:28Speaker 4: they do matter. When all of a sudden they put
- 50:31Speaker 4: the ball down and they know the first down marker
- 50:33Speaker 4: is like a foot ahead, and all you just see
- 50:34Speaker 4: the raptors pick the ball up and move it over
- 50:36Speaker 4: the first.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Down mark What are we doing killing us?
- 50:39Speaker 8: The first player that Robert Kraft greeted was Christian Gonzales.
- 50:44Speaker 8: There you go, goold pick could pick. It's a good
- 50:46Speaker 8: one who again looked like he's picked right up where
- 50:50Speaker 8: he left off.
- 50:51Speaker 1: Ah. Now, I'm not sure where where them guys are
- 50:56Speaker 1: right now? Where where zero and thirty one are the
- 50:58Speaker 1: right right fun of us? He's got a red Oh yes,
- 51:03Speaker 1: a red calf.
- 51:04Speaker 7: That's it's a they're actually right next to each other.
- 51:08Speaker 4: Yeah, we haven't seen granted, the Patriots haven't necessarily had
- 51:13Speaker 4: the blue trip talent of a Christian zales In a
- 51:15Speaker 4: little bit, but just the way that he moves on
- 51:18Speaker 4: the practice field is so different and everybody else, and
- 51:21Speaker 4: it's always really fun to watch even him go through position.
- 51:24Speaker 1: I know, even when he's like playing offense, like when
- 51:25Speaker 1: they do draw together and he just has to give
- 51:27Speaker 1: like a look. It's like, man, that guy, he looks
- 51:29Speaker 1: smooth doing anything.
- 51:30Speaker 4: They were doing a red zone like goal one fade
- 51:34Speaker 4: drill and he one handed catched one in the corner
- 51:36Speaker 4: of the end zone and I was just like, maybe
- 51:38Speaker 4: you can play receiver.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah, he's yeah, but he's incredible. But
- 51:44Speaker 1: you know, it's we've seen throughout the spring. I mean,
- 51:47Speaker 1: in granted it's a rookie ota in three veteran OTAs.
- 51:51Speaker 1: But you see some of these where Alex Austin and
- 51:54Speaker 1: Marco Wilson kind of get the top reps. Not to
- 51:56Speaker 1: say that that's what's happening right now necessarily, but it
- 51:59Speaker 1: just does seem like they want to get a long
- 52:01Speaker 1: look at these guys as.
- 52:02Speaker 4: I'm excited about alex OUs same as Rodgers put it perfectly,
- 52:07Speaker 4: he's an NFL player. Now we have to see what
- 52:09Speaker 4: the ceiling is and that's what we'll get into this year.
- 52:11Speaker 4: But his tape at the end of last year was
- 52:13Speaker 4: really solid. I think he's had a really good spring,
- 52:16Speaker 4: and we've talked so much about the nickel spot. No,
- 52:19Speaker 4: Miles Bryant, Now, can you move Jonathan Jones back to
- 52:22Speaker 4: his natural position playing on the inside.
- 52:24Speaker 1: That also might allow him.
- 52:26Speaker 4: To quarterback the defense a little bit more too, maybe
- 52:28Speaker 4: play some safety by rotating back there. And you have
- 52:32Speaker 4: Alex Austin and Christian Gonzalez to size speed guys on
- 52:35Speaker 4: the outside that can go up against bigger receivers, different
- 52:38Speaker 4: body types. I'm intrigued by it. We'll see if he
- 52:41Speaker 4: can build on it. But he's been solid so far.
- 52:44Speaker 6: I like his attitude a lot off the field. I
- 52:46Speaker 6: feel like he's a great person and he also I
- 52:49Speaker 6: feel like he listens a lot and he leans on
- 52:51Speaker 6: his veterans around him, and also Willie McGinnis obviously, and
- 52:54Speaker 6: she's really soaking and everything he can.
- 52:57Speaker 4: Yeah, him and Jalen Hawkins are the two guys, if
- 53:00Speaker 4: looking defensively, who might have roles that we get in
- 53:03Speaker 4: envision necessarily having huge roles coming into the season. Hawkins
- 53:08Speaker 4: has played something in the league in other spots, so
- 53:11Speaker 4: it's not like he's a complete afterthought or cast off
- 53:14Speaker 4: or something like that. You know, he has NFL starts
- 53:16Speaker 4: under his belt and passed in, so he could be
- 53:19Speaker 4: somebody that could factor into the deep safety conversation that
- 53:22Speaker 4: free safety.
- 53:23Speaker 1: Definitely a special teams guy too. When you talk about
- 53:25Speaker 1: Cody Davis ain't here anymore, Like, yeah, you know, that's
- 53:28Speaker 1: the kind of guy that could maybe speak on But
- 53:31Speaker 1: girod working here down with the defense right now, it
- 53:34Speaker 1: seems like a kind of working on sorting out route
- 53:38Speaker 1: distribution here.
- 53:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I've noticed him do this a little bit more
- 53:41Speaker 4: in recent practices. First couple of practices we saw him
- 53:44Speaker 4: out here floating around and bouncing around from station to station,
- 53:49Speaker 4: and then maybe the last two I would say he's
- 53:52Speaker 4: been pretty much focused on being in the defensive huddle,
- 53:56Speaker 4: which I feel like is where he's going to find
- 53:58Speaker 4: his home at the end of the day. I think
- 54:00Speaker 4: he's still trying to figure out where he belongs at
- 54:02Speaker 4: times on the field and let let avp and then
- 54:06Speaker 4: those guys do the offense and stick with your breading
- 54:09Speaker 4: butter on defense.
- 54:12Speaker 3: Brian Belichick down there, I don't know, I'm kind of
- 54:16Speaker 3: a body language guy.
- 54:18Speaker 8: I'm sensing more confidence from him as a coach. Yeah,
- 54:21Speaker 8: you know what I mean, Like he's like kind of
- 54:23Speaker 8: coming into his own.
- 54:24Speaker 3: You know, Dad's not here anymore, but he's got this
- 54:28Speaker 3: job on his own, and I think he's kind of
- 54:31Speaker 3: embracing it.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we got you know, they were working in the
- 54:34Speaker 1: same spot last week when we were down close and
- 54:37Speaker 1: you could really just you know, hear him speaking to
- 54:39Speaker 1: his guys, and I agree with you, Fred, I mean,
- 54:42Speaker 1: he's you know, I mean, he's been around this stuff
- 54:44Speaker 1: for so long, and I remember, you guys have all
- 54:46Speaker 1: videos from probably two thousand and eight, two thousand and
- 54:49Speaker 1: nine of Bill with young Brian on the sidelines. I mean,
- 54:53Speaker 1: he's been in the thick of this for you know,
- 54:55Speaker 1: as long as anybody, so he should be confident, and
- 54:59Speaker 1: you know, just an opportunity for him to continue to
- 55:01Speaker 1: grow without you know, his dad and his brother around.
- 55:03Speaker 1: And I just love the fact there's still a Belichick here.
- 55:05Speaker 1: I think that that's you know, just great, there's at
- 55:07Speaker 1: least one holdover that we can continue that legacy here.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Definitely more vocal than when I've seen him in the past,
- 55:13Speaker 1: and certainly with not just the safeties though, with the
- 55:17Speaker 1: entire secondary and I undiced that last week to do
- 55:20Speaker 1: so we were sitting down there. You can hear him.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Talking and coaching, and I don't know necessarily if I've
- 55:26Speaker 4: heard that before right out of him kind of taking
- 55:28Speaker 4: a backseat to his brother, his dad.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been more involved. That's that's kind of what
- 55:33Speaker 1: I mean. I'm it's great. I like it.
- 55:37Speaker 8: Looking over to our right, quarterbacks are working with wide receivers.
- 55:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Another another kind of staple here of of OTAs
- 55:46Speaker 1: have been you know, kind of two quarterbacks at once.
- 55:49Speaker 1: They'll switch sides, throwing each each side, and I mean
- 55:52Speaker 1: it's it's a fun drill just to kind of compare
- 55:54Speaker 1: wide receivers to each other, to have a move. You know,
- 55:58Speaker 1: you get a little bit of a sample there with
- 56:00Speaker 1: kJ Osmore and Taekwon Thornton. But you know, yeah, so
- 56:05Speaker 1: you know it's you know, you watch Juju kind of
- 56:07Speaker 1: round one off there. Yeah, but you know, I want
- 56:11Speaker 1: to see Baker. I think these are the kind of drills.
- 56:13Speaker 1: Where is he still up here? I don't know if
- 56:15Speaker 1: he is. I thank god I don't see him anymore.
- 56:22Speaker 8: Yeah, here goes Jalen Zappie and May we'll run into
- 56:30Speaker 8: each other, guys.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I know they're mirroring each other, but I did see
- 56:36Speaker 1: and Dug Kide reported this number sixteen as a is
- 56:38Speaker 1: a tryout player here today. You know, they continue to
- 56:42Speaker 1: kind of churn the roster at wide receiver with undrafted rookies.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I mean, they just brought in Jaquae Jackson. They brought
- 56:48Speaker 1: in David Wallace last week, who was a slot receiver
- 56:51Speaker 1: at rookie mini camp who I thought was kind of quick,
- 56:54Speaker 1: but just interesting. They continue to kind of churn those
- 56:57Speaker 1: guys and watching Wallace right now. He does he's got
- 57:00Speaker 1: that he's got that juke move pretty good. He's he's
- 57:02Speaker 1: got some quick feet. But it just seems like they
- 57:05Speaker 1: continue to try to turn the bottom of the roster
- 57:07Speaker 1: looking for anybody at that wide receiver position that you know,
- 57:10Speaker 1: might have some kind of potential. Even though they drafted
- 57:13Speaker 1: guys and sign guys and you know, have some veteran
- 57:16Speaker 1: holdovers that might be on the bubble, they are taking
- 57:19Speaker 1: a look at a lot of guys, you know, and
- 57:20Speaker 1: that's no different from any other years.
- 57:22Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of movement in the bottom
- 57:24Speaker 3: of that roster. Right through training camp. You'll see guys
- 57:28Speaker 3: come and go. It's not a big deal.
- 57:31Speaker 8: Uh, it's you know, it's no indication that oh things
- 57:34Speaker 8: aren't right.
- 57:35Speaker 1: No, you do this every year. Every year this happens. Yeah,
- 57:41Speaker 1: there's disappointed that something's going on with Javon Baker. Physically.
- 57:45Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not been he's been limited the last two sessions,
- 57:48Speaker 4: so that is obviously the mental rep.
- 57:51Speaker 1: Is the most important part.
- 57:52Speaker 4: And yeah, it's not good for him, but it's also
- 57:54Speaker 4: you know, it's fun for us to work.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well, he's just got he's got some live
- 57:58Speaker 1: wire legs that just you know, you didn't see that
- 58:01Speaker 1: he's got some juice to him. Then I'm not ready
- 58:04Speaker 1: to say that none of the other guys have it,
- 58:06Speaker 1: but it's it's I'm not too far from saying that
- 58:09Speaker 1: I like.
- 58:09Speaker 7: I like his confidence too.
- 58:11Speaker 6: Like when you have a guy like that who can
- 58:14Speaker 6: what his actions meant met his words, it's really funny.
- 58:18Speaker 1: Funny to me. It's like, you know, and I said
- 58:20Speaker 1: it when I spoke to uh, you know, his his
- 58:23Speaker 1: his coach, and he said, man, he's quiet. And nobody
- 58:26Speaker 1: had him being quiet on their bingo card after his
- 58:29Speaker 1: post draft press conference. But that's been the impression of
- 58:32Speaker 1: the building too, that he's, you know, kind of just
- 58:34Speaker 1: a quiet, soft spoken kid.
- 58:35Speaker 6: Uh.
- 58:36Speaker 1: Maybe he got you know, taken aback and thrown into
- 58:38Speaker 1: a media call right after being selected in his car,
- 58:40Speaker 1: but you know, I know that that he's so far
- 58:44Speaker 1: it's who's eighty two? That's ah, yeah, Dutch Jaqui Jackson,
- 58:49Speaker 1: the new guy. He dropped the push ups. Yeah, he's
- 58:51Speaker 1: a uh, he's a he's a Ruckers Ruckers, a Ruckers rookie.
- 58:57Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Guy got some sigh too.
- 59:00Speaker 4: So that was one thing I thought was interesting about
- 59:03Speaker 4: that signing was and we've talked so much about who's
- 59:05Speaker 4: going to play on the outside in this offense, and
- 59:07Speaker 4: they will run a lot of condensed formations, so it's
- 59:10Speaker 4: not necessarily like they're going to have a true outside
- 59:13Speaker 4: X on every single play, but guys that have a
- 59:15Speaker 4: little bit more size to them. They don't have a
- 59:17Speaker 4: ton of those guys that are projected to make the
- 59:19Speaker 4: team right now.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's Doug Kyde reported the number sixteen is
- 59:22Speaker 1: rookie Rory Starkey Samford. He was here at Minigana to
- 59:27Speaker 1: get comes back. Any relation to Richard Starkey, I don't know,
- 59:32Speaker 1: aka Ringo, star.
- 59:35Speaker 8: Of the Beatles Beatles, no but distant cousin of Starsky
- 59:40Speaker 8: and Hutch Starky and Hutch. Summer is eating up at
- 59:45Speaker 8: Bob's Discount Furniture with plenty of affordable and awesome styles

- 1:00:04Speaker 3: styles only at Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: of the New England Patriots. Well, you can see that
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: you're looking at us now. So we had to turn
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: away from the football field for period six. Sorry, how
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: many periods do we have?
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Oh? Many many period You're gonna get to some team
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: drills now though it.
- 1:00:27Speaker 8: Yeah, so we'll as best we can describe what we're
- 1:00:30Speaker 8: watching without giving away any state secrets.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: I know we can't. The cameras are off now. But
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: this other camera that they have here is also something
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: new that I've noticed. It's a long camera, almost like
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: a GoPro on a pole. Yeah, there's a coach that's
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: standing right behind the offensive line of scrimmage that's getting
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: the end zone angle, but like really close up, and
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: I have to think that that's like a quarterback thing
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: that They then go back into the film room after
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: practice and start comparing this drop to that drop to
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: that drop and probably show you you Aaron Rodgers doing
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: it the right way, and then you're doing it the wrong.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: I can tell you, though, that guy who's manning that
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: camera is getting the best workout of anyone out there.
- 1:01:10Speaker 8: He has to hustle to get into position.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: Uh you know, when they change up, he's he's you
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: got to be in shape to have that job, I
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: can tell you.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: So right now we've got for set under center. Yeah,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: set under center, and it looks like, you know, mostly
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: top end guys. Do you see Marco Wilson out there,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: you know, outside in lieu of Jonathan Jones, who I
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: think is still recovering. Oh, drop ski by number eleven.
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: Julian Edelman right on the sideline. Jewlie just shakes his
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: head and take that number off.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: I feel like there were too many of those that
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: when that would just happen like it literally touching their
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: hands and just bouncing right out.
- 1:01:50Speaker 4: It's just like good news. He ran the right route,
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: making progress because he's settled inside those zone coverages off
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: the play action, which is what he's supposed to do. Uh.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: And then there's somebody flash right in front of his
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: face and I think that's what threw him off. But
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: they practiced that and heed to be able to catch that.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah yeah yeah. So it's continue to see Isaiah
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: Bolden there in the slot and some looks there and uh,
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: you know ray Kwai McMillan, who feels like he's been
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: on this team forever, maybe played like three games, but
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: it's some injury problems. They do seem like a nice
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: throw it a little late. Yeah, it's close to a
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: practice sack if you ask me, but it is uh
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: still yeah, continuing to see Nick Leverett, Uh that right
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: guard as well. He's he's such a wide body.
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: I do wonder about some of the size of these
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: guys if they're gonna be truly a zone blocking team.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: Judean's out there on the line, so he's piating into
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: the mix. David Andrews manning the center as he has
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: for many years.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, Jalen Hawkins in the mixes haven't pointed
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: out too. Got a third down here coming up? Yeah,
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: there you go. There you go, hits Jalen Rager on.
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: A little play there, the Rager with some space. Yeah,
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: yards after catch, we'll pay pretty good play.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: But yeah, we're seeing you know, key On White two
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in the mix here. I'm just curious what his year
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: two looks like. He's of all these second year guys,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: he seems like one that really could make a difference.
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Yeah, they could use something out of him. I think that,
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: you know, those third down plays are gonna be big
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: for them though, or they're gonna have tight bunches, you know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: three receiver bunches on one side of the formation. Then
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: you have the backside X and you just run him
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: across the trash and it's a long run for the
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: corner to keep up with him. That was Gonza that
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: got beat there. Yeah, so you get guys like Rager, Taekwon,
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: you know, guys that have some speed on those routes,
- 1:04:04Speaker 4: and you're gonna have some rooms U r p O screen.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Boom, not much there.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Up the gauge screens. This time of year, you can't
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: actually block anybody.
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Really can't move anyone out of the way. But if
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: we were going to judge that one, it wouldn't have
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: been good. That's a right though. I mean you do
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: like these periods though, because you see, you know some
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: of its depths. I mean, you know ninety seven was
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: that Tristan Tristan Hill. These guys, these defensive linemen getting
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: plenty of reps without guy and gotcha in the mix.
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: I want to run for Taekwon receiver Osborne Juju right now.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there it is. That's outside zone. They're ready to
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: see that.
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: I think Antonio Gibson's fit in that scheme is really
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: intriguing to me. The only guy that in that room
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: not nothing against from Andre though, that has the speed.
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: I think to get to the corner, which if you
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: can't really respect the defense to respect that bounce to
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: the outside in that scheme, that's what opens up the cutbacks,
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: is that we can't get outside of you, so you
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: have to flow fast to the outside. If there's no
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: threat there for the outside, then it's going to be
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: awfully clogged up in the middle. And I think he's
- 1:05:32Speaker 4: probably the best guy at it that they have on
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: the team.
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: Still extended to the sticks thirty ten, that would have been.
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: A side arms it and incomplete. That was a That
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: play was over anyway.
- 1:05:57Speaker 4: But that's the that's the hang up for this offense
- 1:06:00Speaker 4: right now. They had kJ Osborne here on the right
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: hand side, one on one coverage on the back side.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: If they don't have somebody that can win on that
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: route consistently on third down, it's gonna be awfully tough
- 1:06:11Speaker 4: because then you're looking at AVP saying you have to
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: steam everything open for us on third down. You're gonna
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: have to create somebody with separation schematically with the x's
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: and no's. In Cleveland, he had Amari Cooper there in
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: that spot, and there's always some place that they can say, hey,
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: we got.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: One on one here.
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: I thought Osborne had a nice release there, but he
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: just couldn't create separation at the top of the road.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I had some red zone works.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: So instead of like doing a few plays for each quarterback,
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: it looks like they're simulating a series.
- 1:06:39Speaker 8: And uh Brissett's still in there.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Now he's going at it from about those twelve
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: yeahn so is that hasty? Yeah, another one of those
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: guys that just has a chance. They only got real
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: two running backs that seem secured on the death shart
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: to Michael Hasety, the two undrafted rookies and f Nings. Yeah,
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: it's it's gonna get some carries.
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: I still think that they're running back short, especially for
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: how much they're gonna want to run the ball in
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: this offense. I wonder if the third, the true third
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: running back isn't on the team yet and it's one
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: of those veterans Zeke Elliott type of signings at some point.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, just a little fun here is uh,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Michael and when you at right guard and Kayden Wallace
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: at right tackle, So this is this is really to me,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: this is their best five. Yeah.
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: Yeah, Kdan Wallace playing his natural position at right tackle
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: Big Mike at right guard his natural spot, Andrews City
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: Chooks the corps for everybody's where they belong besides maybe chookes.
- 1:07:52Speaker 4: But if you can build on this offensive line together
- 1:07:56Speaker 4: and then you draft the top tackle in the draft
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: next year at left tackles, then all of a sudden
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: you have a full unit. I I just feel like
- 1:08:03Speaker 4: this is where everybody fits most naturally. And then you
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: figure out left tackle next off season. Unfortunately, but maybe you.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: Know chukes can can hold up at least a little bit.
- 1:08:14Speaker 8: All right, we got here, They're down third down. Taekwon
- 1:08:20Speaker 8: out wide.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: Pop in the slot. I was born to the left.
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: That's where I'm looking Pop Douglas all day. Right here
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: there it is boom. Yeah, he had to help inside.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: Nice grab. Who was that three? Yeah that was Pop?
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: But he had as Evan said, he had him right
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: off the right off the break. I mean it took
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: a little long to get rid of that. He had
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: the window.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Really nice nice catch by Douglas. Farm more doing a
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: lot of pre snap movement on the line.
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: June was like very vocal, like telling him more to
- 1:08:55Speaker 7: move around and stuff too.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: He's now they're switching it up. Us up. It's like
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: good which quarterbacks up? Is in the wheel? Drake May's
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: hustling got the helmet scrapped up. Now they're fun really good.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: People are wondering where Paul Perillo is. He left to
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: cover the w NBA so that you know, the originally
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: mini camp wasn't scheduled for today, so back in the
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: UH a while ago. He signed up for a charitable
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: golf tournament today, so he's doing that, so.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: He'd rather be here, of course he was. We just
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: spend twenty minutes talking about special teams. Not sure about that.
- 1:09:40Speaker 7: Also, I really like the music playing during this.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: We can't mention it. Yeah, no, we don't want any lawsuits,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: but I was all right. Drake May is behind center. Yeah,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: so polk Juju and Kaishan Booty at receiver and number
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: eighty seven that's not Matt Mitchell willco cross are there?
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Mitchell will.
- 1:10:11Speaker 8: A little underneath pass.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: Over the middle. Yeah, the goh and gun on this
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: one though.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: They haven't put him under center like they did with
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: Jakobe to start to drive, so this one looks a
- 1:10:22Speaker 4: little bit more like hurry up right now. He's now
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: he's on the center, of course, my actually sixty three god.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Check down. Yeah, I'll pack up and interesting, uh you know,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: Tony Maffi. That's another one of these like random roster developments.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Playing a lot of center. Yeah, it's all surprising. I mean,
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Jake andrew is not sure where he's been.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: I don't really look at him as a center, Jake Andrews,
- 1:11:00Speaker 4: but yeah, just center. You want somebody that is a
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: little bit athletic. Yeah, because he kind of sets the
- 1:11:06Speaker 4: pace for the entire line in the run game.
- 1:11:10Speaker 5: Yea booty in the slot.
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that's he can't. He can't the red seats camp
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: fire for Drake, he's gonna go. Yeah, that's gonna be
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: fun part of his game. I think that it gets
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: a little bit glossed over because of the all the
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: other conversations with him. But he's mobile.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: Two years ago at the UNC especially, he ran for
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: double digit touchdowns in that offense. But he's a mobile guy,
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: and if you give him green grass third down and six,
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: third down and seven, he's gonna be able to pick
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: those up easily and actually make some plays with his
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: leg as a runner. So I don't know how much
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: they're gonna want to do it by design. I don't
- 1:11:56Speaker 4: know if they're going to want to put that on
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: it on him early on, just a term of the
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: wear and tear.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: But he can definitely move learn how to slide. All right,
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: So we moved up here. What about the friend red
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: Z eighteen or so?
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, still may high red zone eighty seven.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Yeah see now, okay, So we talked about it earlier,
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: about old habits, and that's where I see his arm
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: got a little bit loose.
- 1:12:28Speaker 8: He saw a little bit of that loop on the
- 1:12:30Speaker 8: delivery that you don't need.
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: And he he floated it a little bit. Yeah, that
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: was he's gotta he doesn't need. He needs to be
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: tighter with that release and get rid of that loop.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Rather than miss like that. This long if you're gonna have,
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: if you're long, you're not wrong. Yeah, second down. But
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: there is a lot of a lot of try hard guys.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: I could make it hard on him, right, she's.
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: The bottom of the roster.
- 1:13:01Speaker 8: Weaponry here, hasty check that I sort of flick out
- 1:13:09Speaker 8: to the sideline. Yeah, I mean this has been fine,
- 1:13:18Speaker 8: Like to just see one like laser throw on time drop.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: Not a ton of open targets out there. He missed
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: will Cox, will Cox also, I think could have gotten
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: out of that round a little bit cleaner.
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: But that that's me defending the quarterback, like always see
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: a lot of gun though from Maya. Only one snap
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: on your center, Chod you on the outside, booty on
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: the backside, batsnap pressure. Oh nice catch made he come
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: down with it, did catch it. I goes to the offense.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: That was a break fifty to fifty ball that who
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: thought was that's a headway? Yeah, Michael that way? Yeah yeah,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: so yeah, Drake may just put it up in the
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: end zone. Petway was able to go up and grab
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: it away from the defender, but contested catch touchdown.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: It's also probably would have been a sack of the game.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: You don't have to talk about that. Yeah, that's not
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: his fault.
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: That snap, too, is something the watch. I'm surprised, you know,
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: the kid, Charles Turner, undrafted rookie, he's a he was center.
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: L s U.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Surprised he can't get a Yeah me snaps maybe me too.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: I thought he had a chance as a UDFA, pretty
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: highly regarded Big Conference player. You know, sec guy made
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: a lot of starts.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: Coaches, Yeah, coaches spoke really high of them. So that
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: looks like that's going to conclude the eleven that eleven
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: on eleven portion, it's the offensive line retreats back to
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: their corner.
- 1:14:56Speaker 8: So that portion period six you only saw, uh right,
- 1:15:02Speaker 8: May and Brissette getting.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Looks like we're gonna do sevens now, this is what
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: they've been doing. They do eleven on eleven period and
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: then we break into sevens and at the defensive linem
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: and go someplace else for a little bit. But I
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: think for May, just in general, just do you miss
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: a few throws you know there I thought on the
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: we talked about the one to Wilcox. But his eyes
- 1:15:24Speaker 4: are in the right places, which is intriguing, you know,
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: like that's what I'm looking for this time of year.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: Right now, as he's seeing it cleanly, and I thought
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: he did throughout that period. You you make that throw,
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: it looks a little bit differently.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, just I mean as far as watching practice,
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: which we've done plenty of by this point, you know,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: he continues to intrigue me. I mean, he looks pretty comfortable.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Like again, I'd love to see couple like whoa, that
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: was a that was a throw you.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: Know, waiting on that probably made to Taekwon like one
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: of the first practice that was a pretty one. But
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: I think, what again, if his eyes are in the
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: right place and he's on time on the throws, the
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: accuracy and all that kind of stuff that we need
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: to pick him on that that stuff will come with repetitions, Yeah,
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: and with practice and with NFL coaching. It's just it's
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: the mental stuff that you worry about with young quarterbacks,
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: like are their eyes in the light right places? Is
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: their their drops sync to the route? You know, those
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: types of things. If he's not doing that consistently, that's
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: when it can really snowball on him and turnovers happen
- 1:16:31Speaker 4: and things like that.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: He's going to miss some throws.
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: Eight five five past five hundred is the ace ticket houtline.
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: Let's go to Nathan and Tampa. Nathan, you're still there, yes, sir, well,
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: thanks for holding on.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: Yees, they're I just got a quick question kind of
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: about cleaning wall future.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: So say, aypothetically the left side goes pretty bad stick.
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: Here and.
- 1:16:57Speaker 8: They want to show with the best not available, where
- 1:17:01Speaker 8: does that.
- 1:17:04Speaker 4: If they had him on the left side this year
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: and then now.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: You're you know, where where does he go from there. Yeah, well,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: I would just say I I mean, the last couple
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: of practices he's been working at right tackle, so yeah, uh,
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: you know, maybe it's not a problem. I mean, maybe
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: they do need a left tackle still and Kid Wallace
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: is your right tackle the future and when he's gonna
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: you know, go back to right guard, which I think
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: a lot of us still think that that he's ideal
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: fit there, but it's it's a good question. Something will
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: be monitoring every practice where he's lining up. But think
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: what evan. The first two practices we saw him get
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: some reps that left tackle lower level, and we haven't
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: really seen that now. He's been on the right side
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: most recently on those you know, first team reps down
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: the red zone where he gots thanks to the problem
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: with the first team.
- 1:17:49Speaker 4: So yeah, I just feel like again, and we talked
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: about this when they went with that line that had
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: on when who had guard and Kid Wallace at right tackle.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But you talked about building for the future and not
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: just focusing on the twenty twenty four season. Candaon Wallace
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: playing right tackle, maybe finding himself a starting role there
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: and then he draft a left tackle, It just makes
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: a lot more sense than trying to shoehorn him him
- 1:18:13Speaker 4: into being a left tackle when he's really not a
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: left tackle. I would just much rather see them go
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: the developmental route for the future, to the callers point
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: of this is your position, and then we'll worry about
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: left tackle when we draft Kelvin Banks. See, maybe it's
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: a little bit late to that one, and that's what
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: I don't want to see right throw it on time,
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: throw it when it's meant to be thrown. And if
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: it's a little bit off with the accuracy, they can
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: fix that. They can fine tune that, but you don't
- 1:18:37Speaker 4: want him to be late, to think.
- 1:18:38Speaker 8: Sean and Vancouver writes in Drake May should start when
- 1:18:41Speaker 8: the team is ready for him to start.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: It needs to be ready to play.
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: But there can't be a turnstile at left tackle that
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: makes it impossible for him to perform and possibly get hurt.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I'm not confident that Wallace can.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Make the switch from right too, and a corp for
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: it lost his job last season at Pittsburgh get right tackle.
- 1:18:58Speaker 3: There are no real NFL left tack on the Patriot's
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: current roster. Yes, May needs to be challenged and he
- 1:19:04Speaker 3: needs the experience, but without an ounce of protection, it
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: would be a waste of time.
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: All right, I'll see you in twenty twenty nine. From
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: side that it's ready for him to play. I just like,
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: how long are we gonna wait or we're gonna just
- 1:19:16Speaker 4: keep pushing kicking the can down the road because the
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: rest of the thing isn't ready. I just what other
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: quarterback has had that benefit? Did they say in Miami
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: like to sorry, you know, we don't have an offensive line,
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: so we're just not going to play you.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: For two years. Like, you just can't go about it
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: that way, But you can't wait till the offense is
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: perfect and every piece is in place. And by the way,
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett, you're fine to be out get killed.
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: And I totally get what the Everyboddy's point is with that.
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: And I'm not telling you that he has to start
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: right away and be thrown into the fire either, but
- 1:19:46Speaker 4: at some point he's gonna have to play.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Yeah, well on time, just not on that guy wasn't open.
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: Yeah, but you see, you know he's attacking the one
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: on one. So there's really no with the corner playing trail,
- 1:20:03Speaker 4: there's there's no real threat to that being a turnover.
- 1:20:06Speaker 4: So you just throw the ball up and you give
- 1:20:08Speaker 4: your guy a chance. And those are the types of plays.
- 1:20:10Speaker 4: Unfortunately for this team you might see a lot of
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: with guys, you know, guy decent coverage.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and that was downfield and certainly the ball had
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: the distance, it wasn't short. The only person who could
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: have made the catch was the offense.
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: It's good covers, sappy times.
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: Most interesting Patriots fan in the world, James Pettigrew writes
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: in I've been hearing a lot about left foot forward
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: rhythm and hitches. Do you think Mac would have have
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: fit as a quarterback with this new system and coaches
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: or did he lack the raw talent? How much better
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: could he have looked in the A VP system.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: I don't really think it's a system for him and
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: that and that's not to say that there isn't a
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: system that exists that Mac Jones thrives in. But this
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: offense is a lot less mentally on the quarterback, and
- 1:21:04Speaker 4: it's a lot more downfield throws, especially off of moving pockets.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: Dasking Mac Jones that hit a deep over forty yards
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: down the field from a bootleg, I don't think that
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: that's really the offense for him. There are some West
- 1:21:16Speaker 4: Coast elements that maybe would have fit him in, like
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: the third down hurry up, that's more timing based, that
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: would have worked, But their early down offense is so
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: heavily involved with the deep throws down the field. I
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: just don't know if that necessarily would have been a
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: great fit for him.
- 1:21:30Speaker 8: Bailey ZAPPI in there now.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: Did you get a load of Teamian Harris fred No?
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: Oh what he said?
- 1:21:36Speaker 8: Yeahs not holding back.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: No, No, I had to talk with Paul. I mean,
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: probably best safe for when Paul was here. But I mean,
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: I think everybody is aware that Damien Harris and Mac
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: Jones were best friends.
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: Yeah, that was my initial reaction to it, as well
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: as Damien Harris is very clearly a NAC Jones guy,
- 1:21:58Speaker 4: so I have to put that green and there. But
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: we were talking about it on the way up here.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: Do so nothing you said was wrong he was. He
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: was pretty spot on about what he said, you know
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: about the offense. Yeah, in twenty twenty two, and it
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: was funny though I went back.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: I just uh, you know, for the last couple of years,
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I just kept notes after every training camp practice, you know,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: just generally what happened impression, and yeah, it was bad.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: It was bad. And I remember somebody wrote into PU
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: recently saying how depressed I was in Vegas, And I
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: didn't really remember being depressed in Vegas, but that first day,
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: like I looked at my notes and it was like
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: it was terrible all day until that last two minute
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: drive that they had where they did actually score, but
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: otherwise they did nothing. So I think that's you look
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: back and it's like it was just staring you right
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: in the face the whole time. And as much as
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: I just didn't want to believe it, you know, you
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: didn't want to believe it, but.
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: It was future. It was a really bad summer, yeah,
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: for that offense. And there was never buy in. There
- 1:22:57Speaker 4: was never confidence in what they were trying to do.
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: It always felt forced and like the players at the
- 1:23:02Speaker 4: podiums were trying to sell themselves that this is going
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: to work, you know, just because they have to do
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: it and you know, this is what the situation is.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: And it just never felt right.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you think other NFL teams complete as many
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: passes in practice to their running backs as the Patriots
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: too over the last like three years, Because I just
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: feel like seventy percent of all are thrown like check
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: down to the running back.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: Sometimes I wonder if this is something that we might
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: not have full context.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: Going through progressions and then just throwing it to the
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: last guy.
- 1:23:32Speaker 7: Right.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: Yeah, That's what I try to tell myself too. But
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: I'm like, some of.
- 1:23:35Speaker 4: It might be that we're going to go one, two, three,
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: and where I just don't just dump it off. But
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: the most important thing is just to get the feel
- 1:23:42Speaker 4: of going through the progression.
- 1:23:43Speaker 8: Yeah, right, moving to period eight rallying here, Still no
- 1:23:50Speaker 8: reps for Joe Milton.
- 1:23:51Speaker 4: We were talking earlier in the show about how Zappi
- 1:23:54Speaker 4: is the lock to be the odd man out. I'm
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: not hundred percent convinced about that just yet. I'm gonna
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: have to see something from Joe Milton in the preseason
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: games to really be ye.
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: I mean he's I mean, did he take any last week?
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: I mean a couple of maybe seven on seven.
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: Yeah, and he missed that one practice for whatever reason.
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: They're doing a leverage drill right now, open field tackling
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: drill without being able to.
- 1:24:16Speaker 8: Tackle, yeah, no contact, Yeah, just to be clear.
- 1:24:19Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, I'm just.
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: Not convinced yet.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: That if you had to throw somebody into an NFL game,
- 1:24:28Speaker 4: I'm throwing Zappian before I'm throwing Joe Milton in right
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: now based off of.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: What we've seen in these practices.
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: So I'm just had one hundred percent convinced yet that
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: that's a Yes, they drafted him, but it was a
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: late sixth round pick. If he doesn't do anything in
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: the preseason games's practice squad candidate. Is someone really going
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: to put in a claim on Joe Milton unless he
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: lights it up in the preseason.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: I just don't see that happening. It's got a big arm.
- 1:24:53Speaker 3: The tough drill for the defense on this one, it's
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: basically you're trying to do a flag football move here.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Look oh yeah, you're just.
- 1:25:02Speaker 4: Working on the leverage, yeah, of funneling to your help
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: if you're the defensive player. So whether it's the sideline,
- 1:25:08Speaker 4: you're trying to use the sideline as an extra defender,
- 1:25:10Speaker 4: or you have you know, team meeting coming back the
- 1:25:12Speaker 4: other way, you're just trying to angle the guy the
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: right way that you want him to go. They usue
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: this drill with Bill all the time.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: Yeah, we need this drill in flag football. So I
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: need eleven year olds don't really grasp the concept of
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: the leverage.
- 1:25:28Speaker 8: Paul wants to know one of the odds. The Patriots
- 1:25:31Speaker 8: signed a veteran left tackle.
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: How good, Bob, Yeah, very I think their veteran left
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: tackles chooks a corps for I know everybody wants it
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: to be a better player or more natural left tackle,
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: but they have signed a veteran left tackle in their mind,
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: and that's who it is.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: Yeah. That's the great experiment because it doesn't really seem
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: like anybody else is really close at this point. Yeah,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: because you've seen like Calvini Anderson back over there getting
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: some rap. He's an interesting one.
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: I still I don't know when you go through what
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: he went through with his health and all that, that's
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: really difficult to then make yourself back into an NFL
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: player after that. But he's got the athleticism for this offense,
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: and you do wonder if he can get himself mentically
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: and physically together, if he could make a push.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: I mean, we had the call. That's so they don't
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: have an NFL left tackle he I mean, Calvin Erst
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: has probably played the most left tackle snaps of anybody
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: on the roster. I mean he has I don't know.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: I want to say he's got at least a dozen games.
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: Yeah, he started I think seven in his last year
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: in Denver, and it was it was the back end
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: of the schedule and he played down the stretch for them,
- 1:26:43Speaker 4: and I think he missed a few games at the end,
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: so it might have been more like a middle type thing.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: But he definitely does in terms of natural left tackle
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: snaps for sure.
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: All Right, he had a seven on seven like red
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: zone sevens seventies given Taekwon as many chances as it
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: can two, three and eleven for set a quarterback boy, Yeah,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: round page with Taekwon. That was a throw to No One.
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: He broke the old pomp broke.
- 1:27:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Jacoby thought he should have broken out. I'm gonna
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: go with Jacoby on this one.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Well, and I mean, look, I'm not going to kill
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the guy for two plays, but like you know, these
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: are the plays we talked about with him. With some momentum,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: he's got to drop. He's got a miscommunication. Like all
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: these little things kind of add up.
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: This is what he's been, This is this is who
- 1:27:44Speaker 4: he is. You see his speed. It plays, but it
- 1:27:48Speaker 4: just isn't consistent.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Almost a nice set showing up the seam, could not
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: quite connect with Austin Hooper. Coverage by Gonzo all over him.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: House Hunter Henry looked pretty good.
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: Yeah, he had a couple of catches and sevens. Yeah,
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: it's just been mister Hunter Henry, you know, mister reliable,
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: always in the right spots and always confident. He did
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: pretty well in the one of the few guys I
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: thought last week that stood out in the red zone
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: drills offensively, just consistent.
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, great resigning and it's just no brainer to
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: bring him back considering the other options out there. We'll
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: see Hoop Hooper's going to bring, you know, a few
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: years now. I'm looking for that second tight end to
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: kind of offer some complimentary play. Just didn't get it
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: out of John U or GASICKI.
- 1:28:38Speaker 8: I gotta say, guys, this little drill is and instilling
- 1:28:41Speaker 8: a lot of confidence.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: In the offense. No. Seven on seven is a little
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: balls hit in the ground.
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: Yeah, we've got three straight in completions now and two
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: to Austin Hooper. He has been getting some one on
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: one coverage and they've been tilting it a little bit
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: towards Hunter Henry here in the red zone and I've
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: been trying to get it to Hooper and it is
- 1:28:59Speaker 4: not on. Well, this is why I know I keep
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: harping this. But they're not going to be an offense.
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: I don't think in these type spaces that are going
- 1:29:12Speaker 4: to create a lot of immediate separation.
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: So they just have a quarterback back there.
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: That can extend the play and can be a threat
- 1:29:19Speaker 4: with his legs a little bit. I just feel like
- 1:29:21Speaker 4: it would be such a benefit to them.
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: Nice, nice route there by Jalen Polk. Yeah, and that
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: ball was right on target.
- 1:29:27Speaker 8: It was really nice passed by the next set.
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: That's the that's what you want to see from Jalen Polk.
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: Those are the routes that I feel like he's gonna
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: be really good onto those quick speed outs.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: Yeah, that's good play there.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: It's like Javon Baker's watching. Yeah, this guy's helmet, but
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: it's too bad.
- 1:29:55Speaker 8: Of the nice past the opposite side by.
- 1:29:59Speaker 10: Him.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: It's got those quick outs, Yeah, quick out of the
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: taekwon there and could uh good catch by him, got
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: his feet in so he looked quick there eleven and
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: we're back in.
- 1:30:13Speaker 8: We're back here.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: No, but I mean he does have that talent that
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: you know, there's just a not a ton of guys
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: out here with with elite speed or elite explosion and
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: and he's definitely one of them in the right moments.
- 1:30:27Speaker 4: It always stands out this time of year with him
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: and the speed it is all that package is there
- 1:30:35Speaker 4: and in this offense, there's a role for that. But
- 1:30:38Speaker 4: if he's not more consistent with it.
- 1:30:40Speaker 8: There's a lot of people complimenting your glasses. Andrew in
- 1:30:45Speaker 8: La says, you're looking like mister big shot Hollywood producer
- 1:30:48Speaker 8: in that high back share with your cool shades on.
- 1:30:51Speaker 8: Does your chair have your name on the back of it?
- 1:30:53Speaker 7: Du Yeah, they're complimenting his glasses.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: This is a cheap mask glus.
- 1:30:57Speaker 7: But to me it's the polo.
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: No really, I know it's it's nice North Carolina colors.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Oh shoot, I didn't even think of that. To Drake
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: never again match Paul last week with his yeah, what
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: was up with that?
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: Is this kid going there or something like?
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: It's the whole story. He just loves Drake Ma so much.
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: I was the one that.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: Was well last year was l s U Right, he
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: does have an l follow He was but it was
- 1:31:22Speaker 4: head to toe and from.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: His illustrious travels.
- 1:31:26Speaker 8: Drake may Oh Paul has sports clothing like gr animals,
- 1:31:30Speaker 8: you know, like he does wherever he picks it up right.
- 1:31:32Speaker 7: Yeah, to be fair, though, he did go a lot
- 1:31:35Speaker 7: on a lot of school trips.
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: Yeah with his son. Yeah, was that rager that he'd gone. Yes,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: it was nice to go by the drake. He's got
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: some zip man, he steps into it. That's what's just
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: so nice. Like I think with Mac the last couple
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: of years, like every kind of throw he made in
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: the back of your head, you're like.
- 1:31:59Speaker 8: Was that a hardrow?
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: He's got a good arm, Like you're always kind of questioning,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and like it's nice to not to think about that.
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: Even the one he threw earlier in the back of
- 1:32:07Speaker 4: the end zone right there, we can just wrap it up.
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: He made that one look easy waste and everybody's tend
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: to eighty eight for a tuddy. That was the rookie
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: jem belt. There was a lot of traffic there. If
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: that was too low.
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: I've seen him make that throw at North Carolina one
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: hundred times. That's his up the seams, anything between the
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: numbers where he can just rip it. That's his bread
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: and butter right there. Yeah, it's just it's so natural
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: for him to read the middle of the field. Out
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: of all the quarterbacks that I've watched over the last
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: four or five years, his ability to read the middle
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: of the field and make throws like layered throws like
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: that one with little anticipation. He's one of the best
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: I've ever seen at in college.
- 1:32:51Speaker 8: And would you agree that Mack had trouble with those.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: In terms of our talenty? Yeah, tough for man.
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: Yep, all right, Mac, nice route, Sean Boody all right,
- 1:33:06Speaker 8: looking better now?
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: Why nice period for Mac? Joe, Sorry, he.
- 1:33:12Speaker 7: Has a chance to make the roster.
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: Mac Drake may the boy the booty, Yeah, he's on
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: my bubble.
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I think booty bubble. I think booty, Yeah, good booty.
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: Taekwon and Jalen Rager and I guess you could throw
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: Juju in there too, are kind of all in this
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: this one big bubble wide receiver.
- 1:33:32Speaker 6: I couldn't have them all like in the same line, though.
- 1:33:35Speaker 6: I feel like there's a tear even in the bubble.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: Probably a little bit. And I think kJ Osborne is
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: like on the top of the bubble.
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Maybe you know.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: Zappia look, look right, then came back to the middle
- 1:33:49Speaker 3: and zipped it in to the end zone.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: Nice nice pass by zap Now they, I mean, it's
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: a really interesting point Tamara about just that whole wide
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: receiver group, like how does it all play out and
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: does one guy get hurt or you know Seven's point,
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: how long does it take Born to get back? Like
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: what are they thinking with him? And even guys like Booty,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: I mean, he's still got practice squad eligibility, you know
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: they But to me, the big questions are are eleven
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: and seven. You know, two guys that it's wild that
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: you've invested in draft picks.
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: The highest paid receiver on this team, and he's the
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: biggest question was he's the biggest If money was not
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: an object, he doesn't make the roster. The only way
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: he's on this team is is because they don't want
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: to eat the dead cap and.
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: Money was not an object, he'd be already gone with.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean to be you know, totally honest,
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: Like I know we said he was much more healthy,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Like I don't really see him moving much different than
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: he did before. He's let me ask the purpose strider. Okay,
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: he's not a likes you know.
- 1:34:57Speaker 7: He's not Pittsburgh Juju anymore.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: That's definitely gone.
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: That's what Polk's gonna do, right, I mean, the hands
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: are on display there. You just throw it to him
- 1:35:10Speaker 4: and he might look covered, but he's he's got excellent hands.
- 1:35:13Speaker 4: And that's exactly what that was. That was Washington, Julie.
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: And that was a good throw by Zappy. Yeah, yep.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: Some of the seven stuff's a little late, but yeah,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: ball needed to be zipped in and he did it.
- 1:35:25Speaker 4: A couple of catches here for Polk, probably his most
- 1:35:28Speaker 4: noticeable practice, but that catch right there at the back
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: of the end zone, that's the vintage Jalen Polk right there.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: Good size.
- 1:35:34Speaker 8: Head coach Gerrod Mayo bringing the team.
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: In probably an hour and twenty in, we already done.
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: What are we doing? I don't know.
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: Well, sometimes they bring it in, then they go out
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: and do a few more things. Let's see what's going
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: on here, quick talk. Whatever it was, doesn't look anyone's
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: in a hurry to leave, so they're probably go to
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: do another period period ten.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Some words of wisdom from the head coach here as
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: we maybe trying to ramp up the intensity a little
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: bit here. It seems like it's gonna be uh some
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: eleven's work again here.
- 1:36:13Speaker 8: So now the refs are here, Okay have they been?
- 1:36:17Speaker 8: They haven't been calling anything yet, right.
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: I saw one flag over digit my off side, I
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: think it was. But this seems like we're as live
- 1:36:24Speaker 4: as we can be this time of year as well.
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: We're maybe that huddle was.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: About let's pick it up.
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: No music, all right, there's my music? Come on, yeah
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: there it is nice kidding. Let's see who comes out
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: here from the office. Right, all right, so a little
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: flayer for the d I know, no got cha out there,
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: but does seem a little bit more down. We're set
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: in there, eleven on eleven I think gets excited to
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: see Marty mop who play some linebacker snaps here? All right,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: so we got there. We're going like hurry up here.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: This seems probably like any game situation. Defense really trying
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: to rush the passer. We have multiple free safeties out
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: there with mo.
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: Okay, we're trying to I wasn't sure if they were
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: letting them catch it just yet, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: Now, now if you guys are running this practice in
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: this period in particular, would you run your sideline the
- 1:37:36Speaker 3: way you do in a game, in other words, get
- 1:37:38Speaker 3: guys used to being off the field, you know they
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: would in a game.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: Well, if you're able to switch personnel, I mean, I
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: don't know if this drill, if they're if they're you know,
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: able to rotate guys in and out or not. But yeah,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: I mean I think anytime you're trying to do this stuff,
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: I mean i'd be trying to do in game situation.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: And yeah, I mean that's what it's always should be
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: geared towards.
- 1:37:58Speaker 11: But there's no way this much the throw Oh yeah, sure,
- 1:38:07Speaker 11: drop ugly ugly, ugly rep off the shoulder pads who
- 1:38:12Speaker 11: was a Douglas Y.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Yeah? Really late, I mean hard to know. I mean
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: it's just I know we're early.
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: I know we're early, But at some point I gotta
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: give Drake some reps against the first team defense and
- 1:38:28Speaker 4: see what he does. Because last seven on seven period
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: he kind of lit it up a little bit.
- 1:38:35Speaker 7: He wasn'tgainst the first team at least once.
- 1:38:37Speaker 4: I just these periods, he's full eleven on elevens. I'm
- 1:38:40Speaker 4: not saying it has to be this extended. Period of
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: time that he gets twenty reps against the first team defense.
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: But I'd like to see a couple because this is
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: just I mean, this is not so.
- 1:38:51Speaker 8: Close behind picked up in the air and almost picked
- 1:38:54Speaker 8: off by It looks like Duggar.
- 1:38:57Speaker 4: Yeah it was Christian Gonzalez had the initial cut Ridge
- 1:39:00Speaker 4: on kJ board Osborne.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: Yeah that ball was late, nothing doing nothing doing on offense.
- 1:39:06Speaker 8: Let's themlazarre calling for Drake man.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: I've been calling for Drake masonce A falling on deaf
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: ears man.
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: I just want to see what it looks like. That's it.
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: It's not It's not to say that he's gonna start
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: Week one because we gave him ten reps in practice
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: Q the ones.
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: But yeah, Drake was standing over next to eight.
- 1:39:28Speaker 3: He certainly has more tread on the tire than Brissett
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: and Ridge Stone is the official tire of the New
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: England Patriots and proud partner with Sullivan Tire, New England's
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: headquarters for quality Bridgestone tires. Visit Sullivantire dot com to
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: find a location near you.
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: Gotta get those tires ready for the summer. I got
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: to get few tires asphalt, you know, what's that I
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: need a new times that's a whoa whoa, whoa whoa Okay, okay, okay,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: and I think he can give it to him, so
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: catch by Douglas, but that would have been a sack. Bye.
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: There's definitely this is what we've seen in eleven on
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: eleven's the pressure. There's just been some run throughs again
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: here today that counted maybe three or four what Chakoiber
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: said so far that in a game that's at least
- 1:40:28Speaker 4: a pressure, a quarterback hit, if not a sack.
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: And Bentley just came through.
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: It's kind of hard to tell when it happens as fast,
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: you know, how how he came through, But he'd looked
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: untouched if he asked me.
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: Well, you can't really touch himself, tagging him off. All right,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: So we got ten is in now, and we got
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: some backups on defense.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: Yeahah, you got you know, you can see Juju pol
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: Antonio Gibson's with him.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: Yeah, so at least some guys that he can. But
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: we're more concerned about who he's going up against.
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, and Rager. I mean, these are guys that
- 1:41:00Speaker 4: they're probably gonna be around here though, So at least
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: he's got some guys that throw to this time. Sometimes
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: they throw them out there with like Kawan Baker and
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: I'm like, good dude, guys, some favorites pressure. Yeah, that
- 1:41:10Speaker 4: was ninety three.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: That's your guy ninety three around Wallace, Marcellus Wallace, Yeah, yes,
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: Marcus Covingston calling the place. Did you guys say you
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: saw Steve Belchick here? Ago, No, no, No, I mis spoke.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: It was Brian Jewels Jewels out there.
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: Jewels does not strike me as the guy that wants
- 1:41:42Speaker 4: to coach.
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: Enjoy life weights podcasting. It's too fun.
- 1:41:46Speaker 7: It's a lot easier in acting acting too.
- 1:41:49Speaker 12: Yeah, right, Jake Man, Okay, caught it, but man, that's
- 1:41:59Speaker 12: closing in around him quick.
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: But I that was a good release for that situation.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I was.
- 1:42:06Speaker 7: Gonna say that.
- 1:42:07Speaker 6: I was gonna say like and not trying to compare
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: him to Mac, but Mac in that situation he panicked.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Drake, I just checked broken play. The pressure is
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: not been good in this team period here. So we
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: had a couple of rookies here on the on the
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: right side of the lane line with Leydon Robinson and
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: King Wallace.
- 1:42:41Speaker 4: In their defense and Fred you mentioned this a few times.
- 1:42:43Speaker 4: You're not actually blocking guys right now. This is like
- 1:42:46Speaker 4: setting up pick in basketball. Basically, you're just kind of
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: getting in the way as best as you can.
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: I it's it's I mean, they're at a disadvantage of
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: speed kills here pick blitz pick up by Gibson. There
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: you go. I looked like a play eighty three. A
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: couple of cross rigers cross cut some balls today day.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: I think him and him and Douglas probably been the
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: most involved. Yeah.
- 1:43:20Speaker 4: A couple of nice catches for Jalen Polk. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:43:23Speaker 4: I would agree Rager who had a few in that
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: glass reds.
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: So some guys that you wanted to hear about that.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: That made a couple of plays, all right, chake me
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: back up. Yeah, Rager and Polk on the outside, you're
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: doing the slot, give some of the backfield. Wilcox tight
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: and left. Yeah, down the field, there's just no place
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: to throw.
- 1:43:58Speaker 3: Maybe a little bit of a push off on the
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: offense to boot, but yeah, that had no shot.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it seemed like I don't know, it just seemed
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: like you kind of threw that one. Really.
- 1:44:12Speaker 4: He was trying to throw up back shoulder and those
- 1:44:14Speaker 4: are low percentage, but for both sides, Like that's not
- 1:44:18Speaker 4: going to be a turnover to just give a guy
- 1:44:20Speaker 4: a chance to make a play on it.
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: Mikey Victor holding up there at left corner. I haven't
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: called his name yet today. Juju wearing football pants. Yeah,
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: he practices in football pants.
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: I've noticed that with him.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Good support, right, yeah, Jake, I still going that way.
- 1:44:50Speaker 8: They got that underneath stuff going.
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: The theme of the last few camps.
- 1:44:58Speaker 4: There working on protections up front. You can tell that
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: the extra guy coming up block and they're running back
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: is a sign to him. I wish we could see
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: Antonio Gibson out of the backfield, but right now he's
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: been in blitz.
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: Pick up a lot, there go, there you go when
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: you will receive fast to the flat short game now
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: he's good. You're right though. It's probably a good mailback
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: question for some running backs out there, like last year
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: with Zeke that. Yeah, it's got to be a camp
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: full of veteran guys that can play that are just
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: kind of waiting. Seems like that happens every year now.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: So what kind of back would you like?
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: Probably an early down guy, like a truer, you know,
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: Seeke Elliot type to backup Formandre Gibbs is gonna play
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: a lot, but it's it's that rex Burg head role.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: So perfect?
- 1:45:58Speaker 8: Is that Remandre back there with him right now?
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: That is thirty nine? I think that pressure? Yeah, oh
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: into a party.
- 1:46:04Speaker 10: Yeah, a lot of whistles like the rough calm timeout
- 1:46:11Speaker 10: or something.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: Oh that's thirty nine okay, yeah pressure. Oh yeah, I
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: mean that's you know, hasty, him and Kevin Harris, they've
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: they've been involved a little bit, so I.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: Might get some ZAPPI reps. Now warming up the old arm? Yeah,
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: that was a say that.
- 1:46:30Speaker 7: Like he's like twenty seven years old, twenty.
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: Eight years old.
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: Just warm it up my arm. I'm in that commercial
- 1:46:35Speaker 3: with Cam Newton. Now was it Cam Newton?
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: That?
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Yeah? Is it just warming up my arm? It is?
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: What are we supposed to go to too? Is that what's? Yeah?
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: I would say, uh, now, this is kind of how
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: it's looked for the offense. Soom you know, the clunkiness.
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: It's just not a lot of this sharp downfield execution
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: and there's no.
- 1:47:05Speaker 8: You know, you watch these highlights from the other teams
- 1:47:07Speaker 8: and they have that star wide receiver who you know
- 1:47:10Speaker 8: once at least once a practice makes that big catch,
- 1:47:14Speaker 8: you know, and we're not seeing that.
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: But I thought a lot of those other teams are
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: not installing a new offense and at.
- 1:47:22Speaker 7: All these rookies.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's that's the great like debate of all
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: these things, Like and it happens every year when you get.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Oh and Zappi took Dougart just stepped in front of
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: that pass, took it for six.
- 1:47:36Speaker 4: That was an extremely smooth looking play by Kyle Duggart. Yeah,
- 1:47:40Speaker 4: he just made it look that that was like he
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: was riding a bike.
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: He baited him into that the whole way. Yeah, jeez,
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: it's like Gonzales there. But back to the point, like
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: that's every year when we get into training camp and
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: you know, look, most of the time, the defense is
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: going to be ahead of the offense and you know,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: you can't really run, so you you're watching run periods,
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: but the defense is kind of owning it. You know.
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: It's so and like you said, there's it's a new offense,
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: there's new pieces, and you know it's a I always
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: err on that side of It's it's harder to get
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: an offense off the ground than it is for the defense,
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: especially one Milton a bunch of new guys returning to
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: hop in there and you know, make life miserable, especially
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: when you have aggressive play callers like the Patriots defensive
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: coaches have been Joe Milton alert. But at a certain
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: point you've got to see some plays like just you
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: got to see some execution downfield. You've got to see
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: some some moments of guys shaking loose and the quarterback
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: hitting them and stride. Those moments have been few.
- 1:48:37Speaker 4: It's been tough where the the actual scheme stuff like
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: hitting it on time, and I just feel like with
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: this offense right now, with I think Fred's points, the
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: best one is if you don't have those receivers that
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: in structure are just going to get open on their
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: own and create those plays, then the quarterback is the
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: one that has to end up being the athlete or
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: the elevator, I guess is the better way of putting
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: it of it all and I just don't see that
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: with Er said, it's not that he's terrible or anything
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: like that, it's just it's just vanilla. It just is
- 1:49:09Speaker 4: what it is. And if guys aren't getting open and
- 1:49:12Speaker 4: it's not hitting on time, there's no imagination to it.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: There's there's no extra added bonuses to it, and I
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: think that's gonna that's gonna be tough.
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: Well, two good throws from Joe Milton and that one
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: was a little hot and just almost killed somebody on
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: the sideline.
- 1:49:26Speaker 6: Yeah, but is there a chance that they pick up
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: one of these star Wars wide receivers who is in
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: a contract.
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: I don't know, man, it's it's it's takes more than
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: money at this point. You know, you've got to give
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: up an asset, probably, I would think, And uh yeah,
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: you know they I don't know if they'd be willing
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: to give up like a next year, you know, top
- 1:49:48Speaker 3: draft pick, but I wouldn't rule it out.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: I wouldn't rule it out. But you know, here's the thing.
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: I don't think it's ever too soon for the quarterback,
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: but I could see where if you've got a young quarterback,
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: it might be too soon for you know, a veteran
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: wide receiver who let's say you sign him to a
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: two year deal and it takes three years for your
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: offense to go and now you've got to pay him again.
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: You know, it's like.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: It's because of the money that it might be too
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: soon for that high end veteran wide receiver.
- 1:50:22Speaker 6: I definitely you have a guy like, for example, JJ
- 1:50:26Speaker 6: is gonna look so good because he has such a
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: great wide receiver right inside of him.
- 1:50:30Speaker 8: So it's like, but they've already got him, you know.
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: I definitely think it depends as a really nice throw
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: by there deep out to who's that eighty two?
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that Baker.
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: That's the arm talent that you see from him. You know,
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: you're throwing from the middle of the field, he gets
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: it all the way out on the deep out. That's
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: that's not a throw you were seeing the quarterbacks here
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: make last last summer.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Let me put you that way. That's a That's an
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: NFL throw.
- 1:50:54Speaker 6: I do just wonder though, if one of those guys
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: gets sitting out waiting for this contract, isn't.
- 1:50:58Speaker 7: Going to get it.
- 1:50:59Speaker 3: I know, well, you know, and you know, as I
- 1:51:01Speaker 3: think about it, like if they made a run at
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: let's say, Brandon Ayuk and they got them to me,
- 1:51:07Speaker 3: that tells me they're ready to go with Drake May
- 1:51:10Speaker 3: Like why bring in Ayuk if you're going to just
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: have Jacoby for set up?
- 1:51:15Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I've got.
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: My eyes on the Bengal simply because like they're going
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: to get that deal done with Jamar Chase, Like I
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: have no doubt in my mind about that.
- 1:51:23Speaker 7: But T Higgins, are you gonna be able to do both?
- 1:51:26Speaker 7: And these guys aren't holding in, they're holding out, they're
- 1:51:28Speaker 7: not coming.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: Yeah, So yeah, I think that there's an element of
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: it where there's tears the receivers that you would be acquiring,
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: and I just I want to see the young guys
- 1:51:41Speaker 4: play a little bit on offense, Polk Baker and what
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: do you have in those guys? If you are going
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: to be able to go out and get to Brandon Nayuk,
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: that's a different story. But I think that there are
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: tiers to it that I would maybe say, let's wait
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: a year and let's see what we have with the
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: young guys, And maybe it's a Houston Texans situation where
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: Nico Collins comes out of nowhere and Tank Dell's a
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: Day two pick, and then you add Stefan Diggs to
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: it now instead of doing it before because you lose
- 1:52:10Speaker 4: reps for those guys, You start burying guys and then
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: you never actually get to see what it is. Are
- 1:52:15Speaker 4: you to me as Tier one receiver in the entire league.
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: So I would go and get him in a heartbeat.
- 1:52:21Speaker 4: But guy like T Higgins, like, I'm not crazy about
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: about it yet. I just I don't necessarily view him
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: on that same level as some of those other guys.
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: Chad Ryland made it doing some field goal kicking now,
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: which usually indicates at least the practice is coming close
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: to an end.
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: Who's going leg for leg with slide, Joey slide. He's
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: a hooky.
- 1:52:48Speaker 7: Yeah, yes, we were to school together. He has no
- 1:52:51Speaker 7: idea who I am.
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: You can't, you can't be serious. He doesn't know who to.
- 1:52:56Speaker 7: Ma who, but he was our kicker the entire time.
- 1:53:00Speaker 7: When was that school?
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: T Brown right through the upright.
- 1:53:04Speaker 7: The real TV?
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean you knows as much as things
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: are you know different around here. I mean generally feels
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: like the pactice structure is is not that crazy. It's like,
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: you know, it's individual periods. We come together for a team.
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: I mean it's it's it's.
- 1:53:26Speaker 7: Looser though, yeah, not as like rigid for me.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: Oh that's under that, that's what right? Wish?
- 1:53:40Speaker 10: What is he?
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: What is he like? It's like thirty seven yards no ways, yeah, yeah,
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: thirty seven that first one from Ryland almost looked like
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: it was out of steam.
- 1:54:00Speaker 8: Sly sure if that was that good, it's good. We
- 1:54:05Speaker 8: always look at the the ohs, the holder, Oh, they're
- 1:54:08Speaker 8: all half five. Well, the refs are oh that helps.
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Yeah. I actually tell you have those every almost like
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: it's like a game. They actually tell you nice. It
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: was riling again this about forty two, right, hash. Should
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: they extend the height of the goalpost. No, No, when
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: lasers oh one looks okay to me. Yeah, they get
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: just stuck in there. Yeah, they're not going to keep going.
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: Here we go, Slide get his chance. Dan Hurley going
- 1:54:47Speaker 1: back to Yukon, Oh yeah, wow, not going to the Lakers.
- 1:54:51Speaker 8: Wow, I want to JJ Reddick going to ninety eight
- 1:54:55Speaker 8: point five.
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: That's going to be on the afternoon Show.
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: The best thing about being at game last night was
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: that I didn't have to listen to Dos.
- 1:55:05Speaker 7: A doors fan.
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: I know, not at all. Yes, hot take, I watched.
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: She's fine.
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: She's better when the sixers aren't involved.
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: No, she's also better when it's three people and it's
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: not up to her to do all the analysis because
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: she feels obligated after every play to say something and
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: you don't have to do that.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I thought she was fine last night.
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: I missed Van Gundy and Mark Jackson.
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: I'm sorry, but until they make a game that tips
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: off at a normal human beings, I will not be
- 1:55:39Speaker 6: watching what it's.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Too late because eight o seven. Come on, it's a championship.
- 1:55:44Speaker 8: Come on, take a nap early, take a nap.
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: I was, how old are you?
- 1:55:50Speaker 8: You young?
- 1:55:51Speaker 7: I'm too old. Didn't one of the games tip it
- 1:55:53Speaker 7: like nine?
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: No, it's eight? No, I was, I was. It was
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: done by ten thirty last night. Yeah, I was home.
- 1:56:00Speaker 7: I usually sleepy.
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: I'm just saying, it's a championship. Take a nap Okay.
- 1:56:04Speaker 7: Game four, I'll watch.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: That was a Ryland miss from the left hash forty
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: eight yards. That was wide. The ball is not really
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: exploding off his legs. No, that both guys are kind
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: of just like it's like gas. It's like a sand wedge. Yeah,
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: slide from forty eight it's up. It's good. The hell
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: go on?
- 1:56:32Speaker 7: What was that?
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: One more? Might go?
- 1:56:34Speaker 4: One more and more sash yep, Yeah, this might be
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: a we're gonna do eleven's, then we're gonna kick, then
- 1:56:40Speaker 4: we're gonna do you know that sort of thing.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: How about a two minutes you'll that'll be nice. We
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: got the refs, we got the sticks, we got everything
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: we need.
- 1:56:49Speaker 8: Bringing the rest just for one series. Let's go. Let's go.
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: Everybody's coming in now, have team meeting. Yeah, another one.
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: Let's pick it up, guys while we're waiting here, Cameron
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: writes in we're trading Judon in a twenty twenty five
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: third round pick.
- 1:57:10Speaker 8: Be enough for Higgins? Or are you no? No Judan
- 1:57:14Speaker 8: in a third round pick next year?
- 1:57:16Speaker 7: No?
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: Third maybe in Higgins's case, just because he's a free
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: agent at the end of the year and they really
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: they really need to make a decision on him whether
- 1:57:29Speaker 4: they're gonna pay him or move him or risk cruising
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: him for nothing.
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: So I don't think Judon is a great defensive fifth
- 1:57:35Speaker 1: for them either. I mean it's they're they're kind of
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: traditional defensive ends. Not really.
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't you don't think that's Look, make the call.
- 1:57:45Speaker 4: I'm not saying that that's a complete, like slapping your
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: face type offer, but I don't think it's enough.
- 1:57:51Speaker 8: Weset back at quarterbacks, Let's go.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: Get something down the field.
- 1:57:56Speaker 8: Going washed out and you got your way downfield.
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: Oh, no, flag black in the middle of the field.
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: Oh there is a flag, but not not on the
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: not on the on them defender. It looks like holding
- 1:58:15Speaker 1: in the middle of the field was the indication from
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: the center center judge there.
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: I feel like these drills should be seven on seven
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: because they.
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: Can't block the front right, so you're not even getting anywhere.
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: It's really not even accomplishing, you know. And it's even
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: with even with these were kind of like defensive front
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: starter types. But the back end, other than Dugger is
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: mostly backups. Yeah you know, Marco Wilson. Yeah, we have.
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: Peppers and Dugger, you know.
- 1:58:43Speaker 7: But I wonder if these are.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: All going to be in the slot. I mean, the
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: corners are all backups right now. That's good pocket, that's
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: a good yeah, nice nice throw, nice catch. Thornton gets
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: out of bounce Corier just an.
- 1:59:00Speaker 4: Absolute roller coaster every single day where you can watch
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: the routes that are good like that one, and say, okay,
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: you know this guy might be able to be something.
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: And then there's other reps for just scratching your head.
- 1:59:15Speaker 4: You see those deep outs though into the sideline. That's
- 1:59:18Speaker 4: just not an area of the field that they could
- 1:59:19Speaker 4: access easily before. It just makes it the whole. So
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: many move flags fly cobset saying it's off.
- 1:59:28Speaker 8: Well, I saw JUNI, but I'm not your.
- 1:59:30Speaker 1: Approachment on the defense.
- 1:59:34Speaker 7: Jacobe was definitely fired.
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: Up after that one defense off side ref's mic isn't
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: working outsides.
- 1:59:45Speaker 7: I would love to see friends a ref. He's so funny.
- 1:59:49Speaker 3: I tried to ref intramural basketball in college, and uh,
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: I think they almost killed me.
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: I was not friendly to our intramural refs. I feel
- 1:59:59Speaker 4: bad about that. Not a good side of me.
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: Because you know, guys would drink before they played ohe murals,
- 2:00:10Speaker 1: tough crowd. Yeah, get it down, first down, all right,
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: with the forty headline, back to passy good breakup by
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: as easy hern shoulder in complete. That's the hunter, Hunter, Henry.
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: I mean, Evan's to your point. I almost feel like
- 2:00:38Speaker 1: they are kind of like, all right, we'll just put
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: the backup corners and see if you guys can do
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: anything on them.
- 2:00:45Speaker 4: It's been tough out here in terms of separation. Even
- 2:00:48Speaker 4: the completions that they've made have been underneath the defense
- 2:00:51Speaker 4: or you know, contested type grabs down the field.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: So it's clear.
- 2:00:56Speaker 3: As Evan said, the next step in May's progression would
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: be just see him out here with the ones on defense,
- 2:01:03Speaker 3: even if he's second up. Keep the starting defense out
- 2:01:07Speaker 3: there and see what he can do against him. But
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: this has all been forset so far with the starting defense.
- 2:01:12Speaker 7: Do you think they want to focus on his footwork
- 2:01:15Speaker 7: and technique first before they not to say like it
- 2:01:18Speaker 7: would burn his confidence by putting him out there with
- 2:01:20Speaker 7: the starting defense, but before they throw him out to
- 2:01:22Speaker 7: the wolves.
- 2:01:23Speaker 3: Maybe, But I think I think the first thing is,
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: let's see what our offense looks like, yeah, with a
- 2:01:27Speaker 3: veteran quarterback, before we put a rookie out there with
- 2:01:31Speaker 3: with our offense.
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: I think too there's an element of as soon as
- 2:01:34Speaker 1: you put Mac mac oh, god, as soon as you
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: put Drake May out there with the starters quote unquote,
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: that's everybody's like, oh yeah it is.
- 2:01:44Speaker 4: There's there's no rush, and I know I feel like
- 2:01:47Speaker 4: I'm rushing it. But I think it's more just from
- 2:01:49Speaker 4: an entertainment standpoint to be, to be honest with you,
- 2:01:52Speaker 4: because I just watching this offense with Chikoby Brissett. He's fine,
- 2:01:56Speaker 4: but I don't know if I can deal with another
- 2:01:58Speaker 4: season of fine and when I and last year was
- 2:02:01Speaker 4: worse than fine. But you understand my point where everything
- 2:02:04Speaker 4: just feels like it's so hard to just even pick
- 2:02:06Speaker 4: up a couple first downs because it has to be perfect,
- 2:02:09Speaker 4: exactly how they put it on the whiteboard every single time,
- 2:02:12Speaker 4: just to create yards out of it. Because there isn't
- 2:02:15Speaker 4: anything special about anybody on the field. There's no to
- 2:02:18Speaker 4: Fred's point earlier, there's no number one receiver. The quarterback's
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: not a difference maker, so there's nothing special about what
- 2:02:24Speaker 4: they're throwing out there, whereas with Drake it might be inconsistent,
- 2:02:28Speaker 4: but there's gonna be moments of special. Yeah, and at
- 2:02:30Speaker 4: least that gives you something to hang your hat on.
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: Yeah, you feel like you're starting the journey to investing
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: in in full time sooner you're not wasting your time,
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: you know, spending your wheels with a guy who you
- 2:02:41Speaker 1: know isn't going to be here in two years. Right.
- 2:02:42Speaker 4: I just I feel like we're on a road to
- 2:02:44Speaker 4: nowhere with Jakobe Brissett right now, where it will will
- 2:02:48Speaker 4: you not turn the ball over and have these backbreaking
- 2:02:51Speaker 4: interceptions late in games like in Germany, maybe you know,
- 2:02:54Speaker 4: we can get to that point, but it's just never.
- 2:02:57Speaker 4: I just don't see anything that's going to be appealing
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: or entertaining.
- 2:03:02Speaker 3: Even Okay, sets out, hit up the field goal again.
- 2:03:05Speaker 3: It looks like this field goal are a little longer.
- 2:03:09Speaker 7: Now he's got the juice jumping around.
- 2:03:13Speaker 1: Juice, kick us up and surefooted. Good.
- 2:03:22Speaker 4: That was a too true two minute type drill. So
- 2:03:25Speaker 4: they throw the slant the rigger and then they ran
- 2:03:28Speaker 4: the ball a little gun run and take it, and
- 2:03:31Speaker 4: then they spiked it.
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: Yeah with two seconds left. Ye, So now you got
- 2:03:35Speaker 1: fifty eight seconds on the clock, fifty six more than
- 2:03:38Speaker 1: he needs. Just so Drake's gonna get a chance here,
- 2:03:43Speaker 1: is it.
- 2:03:43Speaker 8: Drake or Zappy like Drake? Drake grabbing him up? Yep, yep,
- 2:03:48Speaker 8: it's happening up the ol. So that's been consistent. Drake's
- 2:03:52Speaker 8: been number two.
- 2:03:55Speaker 4: He's been pretty good today. I'm not gonna lie. He
- 2:03:58Speaker 4: missed that throw early.
- 2:03:59Speaker 1: And then I give him a beat. Yeah, okay, I
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: could live with a bee. Okay, I think that's fair. Right,
- 2:04:12Speaker 1: So here's something again we got so we got we
- 2:04:15Speaker 1: got real corners out there. Okay, was in the middle.
- 2:04:18Speaker 1: We got starting corners.
- 2:04:20Speaker 8: Because I noticed that on that last series they held
- 2:04:24Speaker 8: the starting corners were not on the field and now
- 2:04:27Speaker 8: they are, so.
- 2:04:27Speaker 1: They held them out. But but back up front seven
- 2:04:32Speaker 1: really so, I mean, yeah, this is the day that
- 2:04:35Speaker 1: Drake made became the starting quarter back. Let's see if
- 2:04:39Speaker 1: you can get the ball to pulk against Gonzales.
- 2:04:42Speaker 4: Pressure not good, there's the pressure. The pocket is just
- 2:04:47Speaker 4: not holding up on some of these for either quarterback.
- 2:04:49Speaker 4: I'm not trying to be biased, like the pressure has
- 2:04:52Speaker 4: been bad for with.
- 2:04:53Speaker 1: The well, I think that well, I think he held
- 2:04:56Speaker 1: it a little long arm angles. Huh.
- 2:05:01Speaker 4: Yeah, you can just tell too that he's trying to
- 2:05:08Speaker 4: run it in structure and run it on time. And
- 2:05:11Speaker 4: now we haven't even gotten into the I'm gonna scramble
- 2:05:14Speaker 4: around and throw it off my back foot fifty yards
- 2:05:17Speaker 4: after yet And that's not what you want to do
- 2:05:19Speaker 4: at this time of year, obviously, But that that element
- 2:05:22Speaker 4: of it, too, is always in the back of my mind,
- 2:05:24Speaker 4: that man, we got a flat that exists with the
- 2:05:27Speaker 4: start that it's you know, like it's not gonna always
- 2:05:30Speaker 4: have to be this, like he's got a whole other
- 2:05:32Speaker 4: thing in his back pocket.
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: Well, if we can get the structure stuff down, good place,
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: all right? How up? How so? Yeah? You got guys
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: like Christian Ellis him and Az Yeah, this is.
- 2:05:56Speaker 4: Marty Moffu playing Mike though, but back like obviously, but
- 2:06:01Speaker 4: give him some reps there it.
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: Interesting directing trap, it's going, He's going m hm. That's throw.
- 2:06:08Speaker 4: That's that's what I'm talking about. Step up into the pocket,
- 2:06:12Speaker 4: off platform, throw at Jalen Polk. The other guys just
- 2:06:16Speaker 4: can't do that, and that's why here's the third overall
- 2:06:18Speaker 4: pick in the draft.
- 2:06:19Speaker 1: That's a throw we have not seen in these plucks
- 2:06:21Speaker 1: in the long and time.
- 2:06:28Speaker 9: Focus wide open. Yeah, let's good throw. So do you
- 2:06:41Speaker 9: do a lot slop?
- 2:06:42Speaker 8: Twenty nine seconds left in the drive.
- 2:06:49Speaker 1: Pressure?
- 2:06:50Speaker 4: What are you supposed to do then definitely? Oh oh
- 2:06:53Speaker 4: oh seventy four ninety seven, seventy four and ninety seven.
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: A little dust up there, Michael Jordan seven for Michael Jordan. Yeah,
- 2:07:14Speaker 1: is it.
- 2:07:18Speaker 3: In the Russian for six seconds left four three two,
- 2:07:27Speaker 3: just just gets it off YouTube for a touchdown. So
- 2:07:33Speaker 3: I don't know what they're doing with the clock, but
- 2:07:35Speaker 3: obviously that would have been the last player of the game.
- 2:07:39Speaker 7: Yo goals again, maybe.
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: Whollow du Mao blowing the whistle, taking control. We're going back.
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: We're doing another rep here is that? It?
- 2:07:56Speaker 4: See looks like maybe Zappi is going to get a
- 2:07:59Speaker 4: turn here. Yeah, Drake May took his homet offers walking back.
- 2:08:04Speaker 4: It's a little frustrated about something.
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:08:07Speaker 3: And then I saw Jacoby go over to a defender
- 2:08:10Speaker 3: and put his arm around him like you're you're cheating
- 2:08:14Speaker 3: or doing you know. I think I'm not sure what
- 2:08:18Speaker 3: was going on there.
- 2:08:19Speaker 4: A yeah, I think somebody did bump into Drake May
- 2:08:25Speaker 4: a little bit. I wonder if Jacoby was like.
- 2:08:27Speaker 8: Hey, franchise, yeah, let's not hurt somebody. It is Bailey
- 2:08:33Speaker 8: Zappy now Zappy fever starts and in.
- 2:08:39Speaker 1: The pressure he just puts it down.
- 2:08:41Speaker 4: Well that was four verts like they were just running
- 2:08:43Speaker 4: everybody down the field, uh Hail Mary style and that
- 2:08:47Speaker 4: did not not.
- 2:08:48Speaker 1: Stand a chance even len Zappy run real place. Come on,
- 2:08:51Speaker 1: it's four vers.
- 2:08:54Speaker 10: Due yeah right, timeless.
- 2:09:09Speaker 1: Wait, that's a throat of No. One eighty six. But
- 2:09:14Speaker 1: that was hot. That ball tipped at the line a
- 2:09:16Speaker 1: little bit. Didn't look good. No, right along the ground
- 2:09:25Speaker 1: defense is going to claim victory today. Yeah, well you
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: get the feeling getting into training campus is going to be, Yeah,
- 2:09:38Speaker 1: how how much can the offense get up to speed?
- 2:09:41Speaker 1: And you know, it's just weird to use. When we
- 2:09:44Speaker 1: talked about what Damien Harris had to say about what
- 2:09:47Speaker 1: was going on in that offense that we watched, and
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: then you know, even last year it was seemed I
- 2:09:52Speaker 1: guess a little more organized, but it just wasn't. It
- 2:09:54Speaker 1: was less productive, and you know, it's it's just hard
- 2:09:57Speaker 1: to know what the difference is between in an offense
- 2:10:00Speaker 1: that in twenty twenty two that you be watching training
- 2:10:02Speaker 1: camp that was never going to go anywhere too all right,
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: yeah it looks clunky right now, But are we seeing
- 2:10:08Speaker 1: enough that you feel like there's you know, there's going
- 2:10:11Speaker 1: to be progress They're going to start not at this
- 2:10:14Speaker 1: being able to Yeah, no, it's hard to see. And
- 2:10:16Speaker 1: I mean and even when they talk about it and
- 2:10:17Speaker 1: they're like, well, we really need the running game to
- 2:10:19Speaker 1: be clicking, and you know, you just wonder as a
- 2:10:22Speaker 1: coach when you put these systems in and you really
- 2:10:24Speaker 1: can acknowledge like there's always an element unown when you
- 2:10:28Speaker 1: get to that first game that you don't know exactly
- 2:10:30Speaker 1: what you got it doesn't.
- 2:10:32Speaker 4: How it feels like there's still that lack of separation
- 2:10:37Speaker 4: from on the instructure stuff that unless they're run game play, action,
- 2:10:41Speaker 4: sequencing and all that comes together really well, this is
- 2:10:45Speaker 4: not going to be an offense that eleven on eleven
- 2:10:48Speaker 4: you know three wide.
- 2:10:50Speaker 1: Is that schooler drops a schooler deep safety with James
- 2:10:55Speaker 1: bell zap Be just threw that up off his back
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: before is seen enough, they're off the hills.
- 2:11:00Speaker 8: Schooler.
- 2:11:02Speaker 1: All right, if that's the case, let's see what's going
- 2:11:04Speaker 1: on here.
- 2:11:05Speaker 3: They are off to the hills to run. So we
- 2:11:08Speaker 3: are gonna wrap things up here at the Letts Stadium.
- 2:11:12Speaker 3: Next up is should I break the news or not?
- 2:11:17Speaker 3: But when the next practice? Okay, So Wednesday, we'll be
- 2:11:22Speaker 3: back live, and I believe it's an early morning practice
- 2:11:25Speaker 3: relative you know, earlier than today, so we'll be on
- 2:11:28Speaker 3: what nine fifteen or something like that.
