- 2:06SPEAKER_14: Tell me I th I I think as they came in, they were like receptive to the program.
- 2:13SPEAKER_14: So it was like you didn't have to like by Tuesday, they were like doing energizers by themselves.
- 2:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 2:20SPEAKER_14: I looked at one of the facilitators, I was like, it's we got a sky net situation here.
- 2:25SPEAKER_14: They've they've become self-aware.

- 2:37SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 2:37SPEAKER_14: So that was I mean, that made it nice.
- 2:40SPEAKER_17: Did uh did you uh suspect at all that they were gonna do a tribute to you for the 30th?
- 2:45SPEAKER_17: No.
- 2:46SPEAKER_17: I should have suspected.
- 2:48SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I should have suspected You knew Tia was gonna pull something, right?
- 2:51SPEAKER_14: Well, I I I I thought she was gonna do something, but I did I wasn't I wasn't prepared for that.
- 2:57SPEAKER_17: So tell them tell everybody what she did.
- 2:59SPEAKER_14: Well, apparently, well, she did a couple things during the week.
- 3:02SPEAKER_14: Well, it started Saturday.
- 3:03SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 3:04SPEAKER_14: This whole, you know, cloak and dagger stuff that she was doing uh for my 30th anniversary.
- 3:11SPEAKER_17: But she was like Tia Sosser is the coordinator, by the way.
- 3:14SPEAKER_14: Yes, and she's awesome at it.
- 3:16SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 3:16SPEAKER_14: Um so usually like because we don't we don't pay for the chow hall on campus on Saturday.
- 3:24SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 3:25SPEAKER_14: Just to save money.
- 3:27SPEAKER_14: So we usually like we get p you know lunch, you know, you You're on your own sort of yeah, well, I mean we'll go get stuff, you know, like cold cuts, you make sandwiches, whatnot.
- 3:37SPEAKER_14: And then we'll like maybe that night get pizza.
- 3:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 3:40SPEAKER_14: Because it's easy, just get a bunch of pizzas.
- 3:43SPEAKER_14: So I was talking to her.
- 3:44SPEAKER_14: I was like, uh, so what uh what are you thinking for supper tonight?
- 3:47SPEAKER_14: She's like, uh, I don't know.
- 3:49SPEAKER_14: I was like, well, we're gonna get, you know, usual people, you know, go to the house and get pizza and stuff like that.
- 3:53SPEAKER_14: And she says, well, I don't know about that.
- 3:55SPEAKER_14: And she kept every time I brought it up, she would like, you know, me off.
- 4:00SPEAKER_14: I'm like, what is why why is this such an issue?
- 4:04SPEAKER_14: You know?
- 4:04SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 4:06SPEAKER_14: And then it came to supper time, she's like, Oh, okay, I got an announcement.
- 4:10SPEAKER_14: We're all going down to the swamp buck to celebrate Doug's 30th anniversary.
- 4:15SPEAKER_14: Oh, how cool is that.
- 4:16SPEAKER_14: So I was like, what?
- 4:17SPEAKER_14: What is happening?
- 4:18SPEAKER_14: So we we we it was funny because we took all the staff, there's like 30 of us, we're walking down the street.
- 4:24SPEAKER_14: We walked from the campus down to the swamp buck.
- 4:28SPEAKER_14: I mean, just a big mass of people just walking through Fort Kent.
- 4:31SPEAKER_14: Must must have raised some eyebrows.
- 4:34SPEAKER_14: But uh, we had a great meal.
- 4:35SPEAKER_14: Uh, I got to preview where we're gonna be playing in September.
- 4:39SPEAKER_17: And what does it look like?
- 4:40SPEAKER_17: We're playing upstairs.
- 4:41SPEAKER_17: Playing upstairs.
- 4:42SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it's small.
- 4:43SPEAKER_14: It's no, it's not super small, but it's very one room.
- 4:48SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 4:49SPEAKER_14: There's a staircase that comes up.
- 4:50SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 4:51SPEAKER_14: And then it's just there's like a bar area, but the dining area is open.
- 4:56SPEAKER_14: So I have a feeling we're gonna be by the the windows.
- 4:59SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 5:00SPEAKER_14: Anyway.
- 5:00SPEAKER_14: But anyway, so I did a little recon anyway.
- 5:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah, nice.
- 5:03SPEAKER_14: So we had a great meal, walked about campus, and then, you know, got ready for camp.
- 5:07SPEAKER_14: Blah, blah, blah.
- 5:08SPEAKER_14: So then Wednesday comes, it's VIP day.
- 5:11SPEAKER_14: Ed, Ed is there, you know, it's like it's like the big day.
- 5:14SPEAKER_14: And you said you were gonna come, and I was like, oh, cool, you know, because I I figured, I figured, oh, Myra's here.
- 5:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, why wouldn't he come?
- 5:22SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 5:22SPEAKER_14: Come see Myra, come see Ed.
- 5:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:24SPEAKER_14: You know, I was like, oh, yeah.
- 5:26SPEAKER_14: So you were there, yeah.
- 5:27SPEAKER_14: And then my friend Abby was there.
- 5:28SPEAKER_17: And my new t-shirt.
- 5:29SPEAKER_14: Yes, sir.
- 5:31SPEAKER_14: As soon as I saw it, I started laughing.
- 5:33SPEAKER_14: He had this black t-shirt on that says Doug's biggest fan on it.
- 5:36SPEAKER_14: I was like, what the frick do we?
- 5:39SPEAKER_14: I asked a stupid question.
- 5:40SPEAKER_14: I was like, where'd you get the t-shirt?
- 5:41SPEAKER_14: And then you were like, I was like, oh yeah, duh.
- 5:45SPEAKER_14: My wife.
- 5:45SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:46SPEAKER_14: But then uh then my friend Abby's there.
- 5:48SPEAKER_14: She's former staff.
- 5:49SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_14: My friend Danielle was there, former staff, my friend Melissa was there with her brand new baby.
- 5:54SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 5:55SPEAKER_14: Still didn't tip off.
- 5:57SPEAKER_14: Seriously.
- 5:58SPEAKER_14: Doesn't tipped off.
- 5:59SPEAKER_14: Well, because they're all from, you know, except for Danielle.
- 6:02SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 6:02SPEAKER_14: She's the rest of them are all from the valley.
- 6:04SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 6:04SPEAKER_14: So it made sense.
- 6:06SPEAKER_14: So I was like, oh, it's good to see you.
- 6:09SPEAKER_14: There was a bunch of VIPs that I knew, and I was like, oh, this is great.
- 6:12SPEAKER_14: And then it started.
- 6:14SPEAKER_14: I was like, what the?
- 6:16SPEAKER_14: So they did this like what was it, like 10 minutes?
- 6:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it was like eight and a half minutes, eight, something like that.
- 6:22SPEAKER_14: It was almost ten minutes.
- 6:23SPEAKER_14: Ten minutes of like a photo, like people had like submitted photos of me over the years.
- 6:28SPEAKER_17: Oh, we had a Facebook Messenger thread going.
- 6:30SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 6:31SPEAKER_14: That was the other cloak and dagger thing.
- 6:33SPEAKER_14: Apparently, you guys had this like face grip uh thing.
- 6:37SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 6:38SPEAKER_14: I didn't know anything about until that day.
- 6:40SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 6:41SPEAKER_14: Then and then Tia had me to it.
- 6:42SPEAKER_17: You should so she did add you to it?
- 6:44SPEAKER_17: Yes.
- 6:44SPEAKER_17: Okay, good.
- 6:45SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 6:46SPEAKER_14: I was scrolling through the messages.
- 6:47SPEAKER_14: I've got to go.
- 6:48SPEAKER_17: It's kind of kind of neat to have that though.
- 6:50SPEAKER_14: Yeah, well, we're getting right where we're gearing up for the 40th ATLC anniversary next year.
- 6:56SPEAKER_14: So we're it's like uh trying to get people to come to that.
- 7:00SPEAKER_14: We're gonna have a that would be cool.
- 7:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 7:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 7:02SPEAKER_14: So so that we had talked about it, but only in the context of the ATLC 40.
- 7:08SPEAKER_17: 40th, right.
- 7:09SPEAKER_14: I had nothing to I was like, oh you know, I was like, oh well we'll get this, we'll get it set up sometime this year so we can be ready for next year.
- 7:16SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 7:16SPEAKER_14: I was like, and and then apparently you'd already use it, so it's working out wow, that's good.
- 7:23SPEAKER_14: But yeah, they they did that, and like you did like a little video, and Daniel did a video, and Abby did a video.
- 7:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 7:29SPEAKER_14: Which was really nice.
- 7:30SPEAKER_14: And then I got a nice message from Jack.
- 7:32SPEAKER_14: Oh, did you?
- 7:33SPEAKER_14: I did.
- 7:33SPEAKER_14: Good.
- 7:34SPEAKER_14: Like a nice long you know, Facebook message from Jack, which was really nice.
- 7:38SPEAKER_14: I wish he actually said he was gonna be there.
- 7:41SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 7:42SPEAKER_14: But his knee was acting up and he couldn't uh How old is he now?
- 7:45SPEAKER_14: Eighty-one.
- 7:46SPEAKER_14: Eighty-one.
- 7:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah that's crazy to think about.
- 7:49SPEAKER_14: I know.
- 7:50SPEAKER_14: I mean, I can't imagine all the stuff he used to do, man.
- 7:53SPEAKER_17: I know.
- 7:54SPEAKER_17: Oh yeah.
- 7:55SPEAKER_17: Yeah, you know.
- 7:56SPEAKER_14: He'd probably still be doing it.
- 7:58SPEAKER_17: Oh yeah, no co no questions.
- 7:59SPEAKER_14: You know, so but you know, but yeah, I got a nice, but it was uh and then uh the last day, uh all the family groups gave me like little like moment like keeps eight bottles, but they all wrote little messages, all the kids and all the staff wrote messages, put them in it, and uh, you know, labeled their family group and the the date.
- 8:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_14: And uh they had gone out to the general the Dollar General and bought this because our mascot is a starfish from the starfish story.
- 8:29SPEAKER_14: Yeah, and they found a painting of a starfish.
- 8:32SPEAKER_14: So they bought it, and then they wrote they did it themselves.
- 8:36SPEAKER_14: ATLC 2026, be the difference, and then they all the staff signed it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_17: That's cool.
- 8:41SPEAKER_14: It was really nice, and I I just I've been meaning to make a post, but I can't.
- 8:47SPEAKER_14: Because I'm just overwhelmed.
- 8:49SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 8:50SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it's tough.
- 8:51SPEAKER_17: I mean, what you know when you when when someone does something like that, I mean it's just so much.
- 8:55SPEAKER_14: I was just like, Yeah, I you know, words just can't Right.
- 9:03SPEAKER_17: They don't do it justice.
- 9:03SPEAKER_14: No.
- 9:04SPEAKER_14: Yeah, yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_14: Because it's just amazing.
- 9:05SPEAKER_14: I mean, I've got this just you know, all the kids all the stuff that kids made me, all the all the messages.
- 9:11SPEAKER_17: Well, you know you're loved.
- 9:13SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I mean now you you don't realize it until something like that comes along, and then you're just like, what's happening?
- 9:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, you know, just not it you get like I said, I was overwhelmed.
- 9:23SPEAKER_14: I'm still overwhelmed.
- 9:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_14: I'm eventually gonna make the post.
- 9:26SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 9:26SPEAKER_14: Like a thank you post.
- 9:27SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 9:28SPEAKER_14: But I just I just don't know how to I don't know how to put it into words.
- 9:31SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 9:32SPEAKER_14: So it's coming.
- 9:34SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 9:34SPEAKER_14: It's coming, but I just I can't can't do it yet.
- 9:38SPEAKER_14: I can't verbalize it.
- 9:39SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 9:40SPEAKER_14: I just can't.
- 9:40SPEAKER_14: It's just it's too much and I love it.
- 9:42SPEAKER_14: And that's good.
- 9:43SPEAKER_14: That's good.
- 9:44SPEAKER_14: I'm I'm so it was a great week.
- 9:45SPEAKER_14: I'm glad it worked out.
- 9:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it was a great, great, great week.
- 9:47SPEAKER_14: Kids had a great time.
- 9:48SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 9:49SPEAKER_14: Staff did an awesome job.
- 9:50SPEAKER_14: So I'm really happy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_17: I uh when I was there that uh uh actually no, it was when I went to pick up Myra.
- 9:57SPEAKER_14: Well, I had to laugh because I was I was so freaking tired.
- 10:00SPEAKER_17: Well, that's the thing.
- 10:01SPEAKER_17: I was like that's the ch I went to pick up Myra and I and I'm sitting there in the front and and I see you sitting in the back, and I'm like, look, I look at you and you're like a ghost.
- 10:12SPEAKER_17: You're like about ready to pass out.
- 10:14SPEAKER_17: I was like, you tired?
- 10:17SPEAKER_14: I I didn't sleep more than four hours every night I was there.
- 10:20SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I and I can imagine, but that's the uh that's the protector in you.
- 10:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it is, and that and the beds are super uncomfortable.
- 10:28SPEAKER_17: Are they really?
- 10:29SPEAKER_17: Oh my god.
- 10:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah I would I would have been better off sleeping in my vehicle all week.
- 10:33SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 10:34SPEAKER_14: That's how bad they were.
- 10:35SPEAKER_14: It just it just it's like I mean, I've I mean when I was younger, I could sleep anywhere.
- 10:40SPEAKER_14: Sure.
- 10:41SPEAKER_14: You know, I used to sleep under Humvees, you know, just on the ground.
- 10:45SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 10:46SPEAKER_14: No, no sleeping bag, just sleep under, just crawl under a Humvee in case it rained, go to sleep.
- 10:51SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 10:51SPEAKER_14: Be out.
- 10:52SPEAKER_14: No problem.
- 10:53SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_14: Thirty years later, no, no, can't do it, can't do it, not gonna do it.
- 11:01SPEAKER_14: Uh but yeah.
- 11:02SPEAKER_17: So uh I so I picked her up on Thursday, and from there, we're gonna kind of dovetailing into everything that we we we did after that.
- 11:11SPEAKER_17: Yes.
- 11:11SPEAKER_17: Uh we went to see Toto.
- 11:13SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 11:14SPEAKER_17: Dude, and I've already talked to you about this.
- 11:17SPEAKER_17: Uh probably, and I've seen a lot of concerts.
- 11:20SPEAKER_17: Not I mean, not a whole lot of concerts, but throughout my life, I've seen quite a few concerts.
- 11:25SPEAKER_17: And even though I think you know, I've always said B.B.
- 11:34SPEAKER_17: King was one of the classiest.
- 11:37SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_17: Uh I've always said Alan Jackson, believe it or not, was one of the classiest concerts that I've been to.
- 11:46SPEAKER_17: Uh this one just blew my mind.
- 11:50SPEAKER_17: The musicianship.
- 11:52SPEAKER_17: And you didn't even have to know every song.
- 11:55SPEAKER_17: They just put on a show.
- 11:56SPEAKER_17: Luke Thurman.
- 11:58SPEAKER_17: I w I wish I could, and and someday I will show you some of the video I took.
- 12:02SPEAKER_17: I didn't take a lot of video because I wanted I didn't want to be that guy.
- 12:06SPEAKER_17: You know, I want to be in the moment.
- 12:07SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah, exactly.
- 12:08SPEAKER_14: I mean, I get sick of that because all you see is like phones.
- 12:10SPEAKER_14: And I'm like, why don't you sit there and enjoy the show, man?
- 12:14SPEAKER_17: I recorded, you know, probably 30 seconds to a minute of a guitar solo.
- 12:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_17: And that was it.
- 12:19SPEAKER_17: I think maybe, maybe two.
- 12:20SPEAKER_17: Actually, no, I think I recorded a drum solo for you.
- 12:22SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 12:23SPEAKER_17: Um I think I did, anyway, but I didn't record a lot.
- 12:27SPEAKER_17: But it was um mind-numbingly good.
- 12:31SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 12:32SPEAKER_17: Uh I believe that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_17: Like they were so tight and so spot on with both vocals.
- 12:40SPEAKER_17: Um Joseph Williams, uh, the lead singer, was I mean, he sounds like he did in the 80s.
- 12:48SPEAKER_17: It was incredible.
- 12:49SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_17: They have a new guy playing keyboards for them.
- 12:53SPEAKER_17: Uh his name is Dennis Atlas.
- 12:56SPEAKER_17: And uh they he obviously sings background vocals.
- 13:01SPEAKER_17: Um the history of Toto is is kind of uh uh spotty.
- 13:06SPEAKER_17: So so they started with Bobby Kimball on lead vocals.
- 13:09SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 13:10SPEAKER_17: And then Bobby Kimball um I don't know if I don't remember if he was fired that time or if he left.
- 13:15SPEAKER_17: I think it was I think it was Lego because of drugs.
- 13:18SPEAKER_17: Uh and then they got uh another guy named Um can't remember his name.
- 13:25SPEAKER_17: Fergie or something like that.
- 13:28SPEAKER_17: French guy.
- 13:29SPEAKER_17: Uh actually they may have gotten Joseph Williams first, and then he left, and then f this French guy came in.
- 13:36SPEAKER_17: And anyway, the French guy had passed away.
- 13:40SPEAKER_17: And but they had some pretty good songs w with him and but he sang really high.
- 13:46SPEAKER_17: And so uh Luke there's like um we haven't been able to do this song in 40 years because we're gonna send this one out to to Fergie, you know.
- 13:57SPEAKER_17: And I think they're name is Fer Fergie anyway.
- 14:01SPEAKER_17: Um but we have Dennis Atlas who's gonna sing it for you.
- 14:05SPEAKER_17: And that guy owned the stage.
- 14:09SPEAKER_17: And I mean, talk to anybody in the syndicate that went, because a lot of us went.
- 14:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 14:13SPEAKER_17: Um what a voice.
- 14:14SPEAKER_17: Just incredible.
- 14:16SPEAKER_17: Just I I can't even uh I can't even put it into words what and it still sits with me to this day.
- 14:22SPEAKER_17: Um it caused me to build a new pedal board.
- 14:26SPEAKER_14: There you go.
- 14:27SPEAKER_17: You're right, there you go.
- 14:29SPEAKER_17: So um, really, really good show.
- 14:32SPEAKER_17: We drove uh after that we drove to uh Waterville, stayed in a hotel um because Finn had basketball the next day in Augusta.
- 14:41SPEAKER_17: And so we did that, and I think we came back uh well we came back that night.
- 14:47SPEAKER_17: And then yeah, and then Monday we went on vacation.
- 14:52SPEAKER_17: Right uh down to our camp.
- 14:55SPEAKER_17: Monday was the nicest day uh and I just we just chilled.
- 15:00SPEAKER_17: I took a nap and they went in the water, or she went Myra went in the water.
- 15:06SPEAKER_17: It was just Myra, myself, and Teresa.
- 15:07SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 15:08SPEAKER_17: And um the next two days well, Tuesday, it rained, except in the morning, so we went to the beach.
- 15:18SPEAKER_17: I got 17,000 steps.
- 15:22SPEAKER_17: Noise.
- 15:23SPEAKER_17: It wasn't on purpose.
- 15:24SPEAKER_17: I mean we walked the beach, the length of the beach, which was a couple miles, and then we went to Kittery um uh outlet stores and I just followed them around and they went shopping.
- 15:36SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 15:36SPEAKER_17: And then they went we went to Portland and went shopping on Wednesday.
- 15:40SPEAKER_17: Went to Guitar Center, uh, of course.
- 15:43SPEAKER_17: Uh so had dinner with my uh sister again.
- 15:46SPEAKER_17: Um and then we came back Thursday morning.
- 15:49SPEAKER_17: We had a gig, syndicate gig.
- 15:51SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 15:52SPEAKER_17: Uh which was it rained all day.
- 15:54SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 15:55SPEAKER_17: And then stopped right before we had to play.
- 15:58SPEAKER_14: Well, we were setting up and it wasn't.
- 16:01SPEAKER_14: It was misting it was misting a little bit.
- 16:02SPEAKER_17: It was misting, yeah.
- 16:03SPEAKER_14: But then there was a period like towards the end where it started misting again because people started like leaving.
- 16:09SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_14: But I didn't it I don't think it amounted to.
- 16:12SPEAKER_17: That was a great crowd.
- 16:13SPEAKER_14: It was a great crowd.
- 16:14SPEAKER_14: I think we had a lot of people there.
- 16:15SPEAKER_14: Well, I mean, it was a fundraiser for the fire department, so I think that had a lot to do with food trucks and oh yeah, a lot of food trucks, yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_14: Uh stuff for kids.
- 16:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_17: It was good.
- 16:25SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 16:25SPEAKER_17: I hope they made it raised a lot of money.
- 16:27SPEAKER_14: Did you ever hear I haven't heard anything, so I don't know.
- 16:30SPEAKER_14: Um so anyway, that that's that's Oh wait, you missed the the the the the Haystack Union inaugural gig.
- 16:38SPEAKER_14: Was that before the syndicate gig?
- 16:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 16:40unknown: Oh yeah.
- 16:41SPEAKER_17: It was the Saturday.
- 16:42SPEAKER_17: Oh, was that Saturday?
- 16:43SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 16:43SPEAKER_17: I thought I I was coming up to it, but you're right, it was the Saturday before.
- 16:47SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_17: So yeah, uh our country band, our nineties country band, although I've heard rumors that we're not sticking to just the nineties now.
- 16:54SPEAKER_14: I don't know because well, I think it's just temporary until we get more country songs.
- 16:58SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 16:58SPEAKER_17: So uh so uh Haystack Union, we we did our first uh show up in Ashland, and um I would say for a first show I thought it broke pretty well.
- 17:10SPEAKER_17: It went all went all right.
- 17:11SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_14: I like the stage they made.
- 17:14SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it was really nice.
- 17:15SPEAKER_17: It was pretty nice, and it was really slick.
- 17:17SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_14: Um, like you like you said, it reminded me of the uh Turnbull stage up in uh Little Madawasca Lake.
- 17:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah, the one they made.
- 17:24SPEAKER_14: Yeah, but uh yeah, very very similar.
- 17:26SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 17:27SPEAKER_17: So I I I enjoyed it very much.
- 17:29SPEAKER_17: Uh Jordan, our lead singer, sounded great.
- 17:31SPEAKER_17: Yeah, she did.
- 17:34SPEAKER_17: Uh I was gonna say her first gig with us, but I think it was earlier.
- 17:36SPEAKER_17: I think it was her first gig ever.
- 17:38SPEAKER_17: Ever.
- 17:38SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_17: And she she she did very well.
- 17:40SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 17:41SPEAKER_17: Um, and so we have another uh Haystack gig this coming Friday.
- 17:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 17:47SPEAKER_14: Um Friday.
- 17:49SPEAKER_17: And we're playing in Washburton.
- 17:51SPEAKER_17: Yes.
- 17:51SPEAKER_17: Right?
- 17:52SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_17: Correct.
- 17:53SPEAKER_17: Um, and then am I missing anything?
- 17:55SPEAKER_17: What did we what else happened?
- 17:57SPEAKER_17: Well, this this week nothing much has happened.
- 17:59SPEAKER_17: I'm st I'm back to cleaning the basement.
- 18:00SPEAKER_17: Yes so so um this is where I am now.
- 18:05SPEAKER_17: You see my keyboard's gone.
- 18:06SPEAKER_17: I put that away.
- 18:07SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, I did.
- 18:08SPEAKER_14: I actually I just noticed just now.
- 18:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 18:10SPEAKER_17: Well, I mean, you can see all the mess that's underneath it.
- 18:13SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 18:13SPEAKER_17: Uh I am in the process.
- 18:15SPEAKER_17: Well, I just built another shelf today.
- 18:18SPEAKER_17: Uh I'm I'm making room for I have to store some of this crap that's in here.
- 18:23SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 18:24SPEAKER_17: If I'm gonna give this uh room to my wife, I have to I have big speakers and just stuff.
- 18:29SPEAKER_17: So I cleaned off an area, or I'm going to clean off an area.
- 18:32SPEAKER_17: Had to build a shelf to put the other stuff on.
- 18:34SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 18:34SPEAKER_17: Uh so that I did that today.
- 18:36SPEAKER_17: Um I took out as you notice when you walked in, some of the things in the back room here.
- 18:42SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 18:42SPEAKER_17: Uh those are I've moved those.
- 18:44SPEAKER_17: So it's a it's a slow process, but uh that's a big basement.
- 18:49SPEAKER_14: I mean, you got twenty plus years in this house.
- 18:52SPEAKER_14: So I mean, you know, yeah, you get a lot of stuff in that time.
- 18:55SPEAKER_17: Yeah, well, this is uh I I I want to say a lot of the stuff that you're seeing here, I'm going to throw away.
- 19:04SPEAKER_17: I get it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_17: Not all of it, but I mean it.
- 19:07SPEAKER_17: If it's been in here and I haven't touched it in years and years and years, I'm just gonna toss it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_17: Yeah, just get rid of it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_17: You know, just kinda give it because you know.
- 19:14SPEAKER_17: I mean, I I have a tendency to collect things like cords.
- 19:20SPEAKER_17: You never know when you're gonna need that.
- 19:22SPEAKER_14: I I don't know if I'll never need this RF cable ever again, but uh I mean I'm gonna have it.
- 19:29SPEAKER_17: Exactly.
- 19:29SPEAKER_14: Yeah so so I think that's a I think that's a rural I think that's an up here thing.
- 19:34SPEAKER_14: Maybe, you know, maybe because like our you know, our grandparents were depression to help you and like my grandmother used to like use water paper towels and then dry them out and use it keep reusing them.
- 19:47SPEAKER_14: Really?
- 19:47SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, all the time.
- 19:49SPEAKER_14: Tinfoil, paper towels, got reused multiple times.
- 19:53SPEAKER_14: I can see that actually.
- 19:55SPEAKER_14: It's just that mentality.
- 19:56SPEAKER_14: So I mean and dad, of course, is you know, if he if he gets if he he'll go to the dump to take stuff to the dump and come back with more stuff.
- 20:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah, he found he found a stationary bike at the dump last week.
- 20:11SPEAKER_14: And he brought it back?
- 20:11SPEAKER_14: Brought it back.
- 20:13SPEAKER_14: It's now in the basement.
- 20:15SPEAKER_14: It was a good shape, yeah.
- 20:16SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I don't know why somebody threw it away, but you know, it was a good shape, so dad took it.
- 20:21SPEAKER_14: Has he used it yet?
- 20:22SPEAKER_14: No.
- 20:22SPEAKER_14: No.
- 20:23SPEAKER_14: But he has it.
- 20:24SPEAKER_14: He's ready.
- 20:25SPEAKER_17: I meant to tell you the one thing I skipped.
- 20:27SPEAKER_17: Uh so after our syndicate gig on Thursday, uh Friday, I don't know, you've never really been in our bedroom, in the master bedroom up.
- 20:37SPEAKER_17: No.
- 20:38SPEAKER_17: Uh, and there's a good reason because uh whenever somebody comes over we close the door because it's just it's a catch-all.
- 20:44SPEAKER_14: Well, that's kind of a private area.
- 20:45SPEAKER_17: Well, not only the way I looked at it, you know, it's just like you know, we have too many clothes and only two dressers.
- 20:52SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 20:52SPEAKER_17: Do you know what I mean?
- 20:53SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_17: And and it was just and there was dust bunnies, and it was just it was uh it was too much junk in there.
- 21:00SPEAKER_17: So anyway, I cleaned it out and I changed the room around because it's good to do every once in a while.
- 21:06SPEAKER_17: Oh sure.
- 21:06SPEAKER_17: So I changed the bed shui.
- 21:08SPEAKER_17: Yeah, the direction of the bed and put the dressers in a different place, mounted the TV on the wall.
- 21:14SPEAKER_17: Nice.
- 21:14SPEAKER_17: So it's not, you know, on the desk anymore.
- 21:16SPEAKER_17: The desk is uh now down here, which opened up the room quite a bit.
- 21:21SPEAKER_17: Put some pictures up on the wall.
- 21:22SPEAKER_17: So I did that m Friday and Saturday.
- 21:25SPEAKER_17: It took me most of the most of the day.
- 21:28SPEAKER_17: Uh Saturday I was doing that and and um picked up a end table that was outside.
- 21:38SPEAKER_17: I had an outside storage for a second for a little while, and then so I was gonna bring it back in, picked it up and twisted just right and threw my back out.
- 21:47SPEAKER_13: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:48SPEAKER_17: So Saturday night I was laid up.
- 21:52SPEAKER_17: Uh and then Sunday I was okay.
- 21:55SPEAKER_17: I went to church.
- 21:56SPEAKER_17: I had biofreeze is amazing.
- 21:59SPEAKER_17: Um But then Teresa uh had to take my Myra wanted to go see Spider-Man, the new Spider-Man movie.
- 22:05SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 22:05SPEAKER_17: And I was all set to take her.
- 22:08SPEAKER_17: And I laid down and couldn't get back up.
- 22:11SPEAKER_17: Um so she took her.
- 22:14SPEAKER_17: And I woke up the next day and I was almost back to normal.
- 22:17SPEAKER_17: And you know, I've been working down here in the basement all day, yesterday and today, and it's it's just tender.
- 22:24SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, it's it's gotta, you know, you don't bounce back like we used to do.
- 22:28SPEAKER_14: No, I just totally get it, man.
- 22:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_17: So uh anyway, it's been an eventful couple of weeks, and I was telling my wife, uh, you know, you can't say that I haven't done anything this summer.
- 22:40SPEAKER_17: Not sure.
- 22:40SPEAKER_17: Because I have been cleaning this basement and going through stuff.
- 22:44SPEAKER_17: I replaced the that's the other thing I forgot to tell you.
- 22:48SPEAKER_17: The uh in our master bedroom, our bathroom, uh I replaced the faucet in there because it wasn't working right, so I just took the took it out and put the put a new one in.
- 23:00SPEAKER_17: Noise.
- 23:01SPEAKER_17: And the shower.
- 23:02SPEAKER_17: I replaced the shower as well.
- 23:04SPEAKER_17: Um like the shower head, you mean?
- 23:06SPEAKER_17: The shower head.
- 23:06SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 23:07SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 23:07SPEAKER_17: Yeah, no, I took the whole shower out.
- 23:08SPEAKER_14: Took the whole shower out.
- 23:09SPEAKER_14: It took me two days.
- 23:10SPEAKER_14: It's out in the backyard now.
- 23:12SPEAKER_17: No We shower out there not too.
- 23:14SPEAKER_17: Wouldn't mind doing that actually.
- 23:15SPEAKER_17: But um I got this shower working.
- 23:18SPEAKER_17: Oh, nice.
- 23:19SPEAKER_17: Uh it hadn't been working for quite a while, and it just was gathering dust, and we're not weren't using it.
- 23:24SPEAKER_17: Uh this and this was earlier in the summer.
- 23:27SPEAKER_17: Um, so I got it, I got it working, and uh now it's my little secret.
- 23:34SPEAKER_17: Because I like it better.
- 23:36SPEAKER_17: It's bigger.
- 23:37SPEAKER_17: The other one's a stand-up, you know, a single stand-up shower.
- 23:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah, this this is more of a tub.
- 23:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_17: And so all of my family uses the little shower just because they're so used to it.
- 23:48SPEAKER_17: Oh, sure.
- 23:48SPEAKER_17: So they and I get up in the morning, I come in here, and use this big shower, and it's like ah, sanguine.
- 23:56SPEAKER_17: Exactly.
- 23:57SPEAKER_17: Yeah, man.
- 23:58SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 23:58SPEAKER_17: So anyway.
- 23:59SPEAKER_17: So you've been a busy boy.
- 24:00SPEAKER_17: I've been a busy boy.
- 24:01SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 24:01SPEAKER_14: I do I do recall though, back in like June, you were like, I'm gonna I'm planning on having the basement finished by August.
- 24:07SPEAKER_14: I'm like, No, no.
- 24:08SPEAKER_14: At first I said the end of June.
- 24:10SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 24:11SPEAKER_14: And then you were like, Well, August is more uh realistic.
- 24:16SPEAKER_17: It won't be finished.
- 24:17SPEAKER_17: No.
- 24:17SPEAKER_17: Uh, but it's it's but I mean there's definite progress.
- 24:20SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah, it's in much better shape.
- 24:21SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 24:22SPEAKER_17: Um the shelving helps.
- 24:24SPEAKER_17: Um, and we're gonna get uh the um fuel company to come in and look at our boiler, right?
- 24:29SPEAKER_17: Right, right, yeah.
- 24:30SPEAKER_17: Fix that so that we're all set for the winter.
- 24:32SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 24:32SPEAKER_17: No, it's it's good.
- 24:33SPEAKER_17: It's good.
- 24:34SPEAKER_17: Um I do have a couple of things music-wise to talk about, but before I do that, and maybe we won't get to it, I don't know.
- 24:43SPEAKER_17: I found something that I thought was really cool and very interesting and kind of embarrassing.
- 24:47SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 24:48SPEAKER_17: As I was cleaning, I found um This was a scrapbook that my wife gave me for all our common crossing things.
- 24:59SPEAKER_17: Oh wow.
- 25:00SPEAKER_17: Um, not all of it is you know, common crossing, but I mean I've got this is Ernie and the automatics with special guests.
- 25:07SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah, when we opened for him.
- 25:08SPEAKER_17: Yeah, yeah.
- 25:09SPEAKER_17: That's the uh flyer.
- 25:11SPEAKER_17: Um I have Oh, one of our posters.
- 25:15SPEAKER_17: One of our posters.
- 25:16SPEAKER_14: I like that picture.
- 25:16SPEAKER_14: Yeah, me too.
- 25:17SPEAKER_14: That's a good picture of it.
- 25:18SPEAKER_14: Uh Bob took that.
- 25:19SPEAKER_17: Yes, I yes, he took quite a few, actually.
- 25:22SPEAKER_17: That was a piece of music I was starting to write.
- 25:25SPEAKER_17: I have some uh lyrics in here.
- 25:27SPEAKER_14: Noise.
- 25:28SPEAKER_14: Um the old uh dot matrix printer there.
- 25:31SPEAKER_14: Yeah, you yeah, you could tell, huh?
- 25:32SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_17: Three strangers.
- 25:34SPEAKER_17: Nice, no more goodbyes.
- 25:36SPEAKER_17: Wow.
- 25:37SPEAKER_17: Um, I don't know why I have jailhouse rock in here.
- 25:39SPEAKER_17: I didn't write that one.
- 25:41SPEAKER_17: Uh Why Does Love Have to Be So Hard?
- 25:44SPEAKER_17: Wow.
- 25:44SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 25:46SPEAKER_17: Um, and this were the notes.
- 25:50SPEAKER_17: Remember, I took this song to Nashville.
- 25:51SPEAKER_17: Right, yeah.
- 25:52SPEAKER_17: Um and the have I ever told I think I've told you this story.
- 25:57SPEAKER_17: Uh Tia Sellers.
- 25:59SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 25:59SPEAKER_17: Sellers.
- 26:00SPEAKER_14: She listened to that song.
- 26:01SPEAKER_17: Yeah, and she she was a co-writer of Blue on Black.
- 26:04SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_17: Um, and she was in that session with me and she wrote these things on it.
- 26:07SPEAKER_17: She's like, very eagles, cool.
- 26:10SPEAKER_17: Your song is stronger than your hook.
- 26:14SPEAKER_17: And she gave me some uh uh or was it me secretly?
- 26:18SPEAKER_17: She's like, I like this internal rhyme.
- 26:20SPEAKER_17: And she gave me a suggestion about how to change the chorus.
- 26:24SPEAKER_17: I said, Why does love have to be so hard?
- 26:26SPEAKER_17: She's like, Why did I, why did I?
- 26:28SPEAKER_17: And I'm like, that's not what I'm saying.
- 26:31SPEAKER_17: You may not be you may be smart, but it's not a small thing.
- 26:33SPEAKER_14: It's still my song.
- 26:35SPEAKER_17: Um these are I see chords on there.
- 26:40SPEAKER_17: Um I believe this is Phil's.
- 26:44SPEAKER_17: Oh, one of Phil's one of Phil's.
- 26:46SPEAKER_17: Actually, a few of Phil's.
- 26:48SPEAKER_17: There's some key words.
- 26:50SPEAKER_17: Yep, definitely.
- 26:52SPEAKER_17: This is a list of songs that I had written up to that point.
- 26:58SPEAKER_17: Um not all of them are uh winners, obviously.
- 27:05SPEAKER_17: Um but what I wanted to uh read to you today San Francisco, this is a uh my my wife, uh she was not my wife at the time, went to San Francisco and uh sent me a postcard.
- 27:22SPEAKER_14: Oh candlestick.
- 27:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 27:23SPEAKER_17: That was the insert from the Blake.
- 27:26SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I remember this.
- 27:30SPEAKER_14: Uh I like that picture of all four of us on the couch in the old apartment.
- 27:33SPEAKER_14: Yeah, me like that picture.
- 27:35SPEAKER_17: So uh what I wanted to read to you, which was kind of neat, um, I had started a journal.
- 27:42SPEAKER_14: Oh.
- 27:44SPEAKER_14: Um I was gonna ask about the notebook.
- 27:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_17: I had started that one.
- 27:49SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 27:50SPEAKER_17: I had started this the first entry um is September 22nd, 1995.
- 28:00SPEAKER_17: Um and I want to see.
- 28:08SPEAKER_17: So well, I'll just read some of these.
- 28:11SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 28:12SPEAKER_17: Because some of them are it's just kind of neat to think about.
- 28:16SPEAKER_17: Um what what I will get to eventually is uh the formation of Common Crossing.
- 28:25SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 28:26SPEAKER_17: Um because I jump around here.
- 28:28SPEAKER_17: It goes in this one's at uh is from 1998.
- 28:33SPEAKER_17: Um and I and this and I stopped.
- 28:36SPEAKER_17: I only had a few I only had a few entries.
- 28:39SPEAKER_17: That's all right.
- 28:39SPEAKER_17: So September 2nd, 1995.
- 28:42SPEAKER_17: Well, I'm at work.
- 28:43SPEAKER_17: It's 6 03, and I go on stage at Joe Hackett's Steak and Seafood.
- 28:48SPEAKER_17: This is my first journal entry.
- 28:50SPEAKER_17: I figure if things are going to start happening with my music, I should keep a history of them.
- 28:55SPEAKER_17: Nathan is probably nervous.
- 28:57SPEAKER_17: I'd be lying if I said I didn't have any butterflies, but I really don't get that nervous at those things.
- 29:04SPEAKER_17: I just wish it could be a whole band thing.
- 29:07SPEAKER_17: But there's not enough room and Doug's working and Tom's in New Hampshire.
- 29:11SPEAKER_17: Oh well.
- 29:11SPEAKER_17: I wish Teresa could be here too.
- 29:13SPEAKER_17: There'll be a time when I can just hold her all night long.
- 29:17SPEAKER_17: I know it in my heart.
- 29:19SPEAKER_17: Well, I'll end now.
- 29:20SPEAKER_17: Toodles.
- 29:21SPEAKER_17: Cute cutie.
- 29:24SPEAKER_17: Uh yeah, I'm gonna try and skip some of that stuff.
- 29:27SPEAKER_17: Uh all that that uh Alright.
- 29:31SPEAKER_17: This is October 3rd, 1995.
- 29:34SPEAKER_17: Here I am at 117 in the morning.
- 29:36SPEAKER_17: I'm tired, but I miss Teresa, so I can't sleep.
- 29:39SPEAKER_17: I got the labels done today for the second Blake Street boys tape.
- 29:42SPEAKER_17: Now I need some blank tapes to dub them.
- 29:44SPEAKER_17: Nate and Doug left about an hour ago.
- 29:47SPEAKER_17: We finished right.
- 29:49SPEAKER_17: We finished four songs tonight.
- 29:51SPEAKER_17: Cool.
- 29:52SPEAKER_17: Those will go on the third project.
- 29:54SPEAKER_17: I figure if I keep doing like I'm doing, we might as well just start Blake Street Records.
- 30:01SPEAKER_17: Lisa's song is now in current rotation at Channel X.
- 30:05SPEAKER_17: The Joe Hackett's forgot about that.
- 30:06SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I snuck them on.
- 30:08SPEAKER_17: The uh Joe Hackett's gigs went well.
- 30:10SPEAKER_17: They want us back in November.
- 30:12SPEAKER_17: I'm getting more labels made for the demo to send to some indie labels if you think about it.
- 30:16SPEAKER_17: A.
- 30:17SPEAKER_17: Blake Street Boys, the apartment sessions, has 17 songs on it.
- 30:20SPEAKER_17: B Blake Street Boys Some Kind of Ride has 15 songs on it.
- 30:24SPEAKER_17: C.
- 30:25SPEAKER_17: The forthcoming Blake Street Boys, Three Strangers, has 15 on it.
- 30:28SPEAKER_17: One, most CDs have 10 songs on them.
- 30:31SPEAKER_17: Two, that's almost five CDs, man.
- 30:33SPEAKER_17: Well, well, gotta close the blues and dream of my suite.
- 30:38SPEAKER_14: Joe Hackett's was that the old Green Acres?
- 30:41SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 30:41SPEAKER_14: By where the uh Funland.
- 30:43SPEAKER_14: Funlanded, yeah.
- 30:44SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_14: I told you I think I went there when you guys were playing there once.
- 30:48SPEAKER_14: Did you?
- 30:48SPEAKER_14: And eight.
- 30:49SPEAKER_14: We didn't play there very often.
- 30:50SPEAKER_14: No, I think we only played a couple times.
- 30:52SPEAKER_14: No, I won't I remember going there once to watch you guys.
- 30:55SPEAKER_17: Um let's see.
- 30:57SPEAKER_17: This is October 4th, but I'm I'm gonna skip that because it's really short.
- 31:01SPEAKER_17: It says I don't have time to write.
- 31:03SPEAKER_17: October.
- 31:04SPEAKER_14: You took time to write that.
- 31:06SPEAKER_14: I don't have time to write.
- 31:06SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 31:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 31:08SPEAKER_14: Uh okay, so like when you wrote that song about not being able to write a song.
- 31:12SPEAKER_17: Right, yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 31:14SPEAKER_17: Uh okay, so as most people know, you just started playing drums when we started.
- 31:22SPEAKER_14: Literally, yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_17: And Nate just started playing bass.
- 31:25SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 31:25SPEAKER_17: Okay, so let's kind of preface this one.
- 31:27SPEAKER_17: October 12th.
- 31:29SPEAKER_17: Yes, I'm at work.
- 31:31SPEAKER_17: Mornings.
- 31:31SPEAKER_17: Yuck.
- 31:32SPEAKER_17: I talked to Teresa last night.
- 31:33SPEAKER_17: That was great.
- 31:34SPEAKER_17: I'm going to talk to her again tonight.
- 31:36SPEAKER_17: Cool.
- 31:36SPEAKER_17: I'm thinking about putting a different song on the air.
- 31:39SPEAKER_17: I've had complaints, if you will, that one of the notes in Lisa's song is wrong.
- 31:43SPEAKER_17: I do agree.
- 31:45SPEAKER_17: What I really need to do is pick two or three songs, write out the lyrics, write a cover letter, and send them away.
- 31:51SPEAKER_17: It's hard to pick which songs to send.
- 31:53SPEAKER_17: Anyway, the Blake Street Boys jammed on Saturday and Monday.
- 31:57SPEAKER_17: Saturday we were all tired and goofing off.
- 32:01SPEAKER_17: It was funny.
- 32:02SPEAKER_17: Monday we got serious and sounded awesome.
- 32:04SPEAKER_17: I think Nate and Doug have really come along.
- 32:07SPEAKER_17: Nate's getting comfortable with the bass.
- 32:08SPEAKER_17: He's playing around with the board now, which means he understands the notes.
- 32:14SPEAKER_17: Now all he has to do is figure out how to sing and play at the same time and remember the words.
- 32:21SPEAKER_17: Of course, I have to work on that too.
- 32:23SPEAKER_17: Doug is really impressive.
- 32:25SPEAKER_17: He also seems to love drumming.
- 32:27SPEAKER_17: I think from his musical tastes, he's used to really loud drums.
- 32:33SPEAKER_17: I try to stress dynamics, but I don't like coming across like a jerk.
- 32:37SPEAKER_17: He's doing better.
- 32:39SPEAKER_17: There's going to be a day when we're jamming or playing somewhere, and all of us will remember where everything goes, all the words and all the dynamics, and we'll be tight.
- 32:46SPEAKER_17: I'm still having a ball, but I'm also impatient.
- 32:49SPEAKER_17: I've got to get my bills paid off.
- 32:50SPEAKER_17: I miss Teresa.
- 32:51SPEAKER_17: I want a recording studio.
- 32:52SPEAKER_17: Time is on my side.
- 32:57SPEAKER_14: It's taking them taking me back to the, yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_14: Well, I was in the KMH today and I was looking at drumsticks and I I picked up a pair of two B's and I said to Randy, I said, Can you believe I used to play with these frickin' things?
- 33:11SPEAKER_17: They're like tree trunks, man.
- 33:13SPEAKER_17: Uh okay, so there's a couple more entries, uh, but I'm jumping ahead now.
- 33:19SPEAKER_17: This is this is um March 28th, 1998.
- 33:22SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 33:23SPEAKER_17: So this is a couple uh two or three years later.
- 33:25SPEAKER_17: Uh I don't know.
- 33:28SPEAKER_17: Yeah, okay.
- 33:29SPEAKER_17: Hard to believe it's been about three years since my last journal entry.
- 33:32SPEAKER_17: Here I am at my house that I'm renting with my lovely wife, Teresa.
- 33:37SPEAKER_17: Those are in quotes.
- 33:38SPEAKER_17: Uh we're in the process of looking for a house to buy, hopefully before our first anniversary, June 28th, 1998.
- 33:44SPEAKER_17: And I'm listening to an old tape of Lisa's song that we recorded at Gooville Elementary School on a real piano.
- 33:50SPEAKER_17: What?
- 33:51SPEAKER_14: I don't remember doing that.
- 33:53SPEAKER_14: Did you do that?
- 33:54SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 33:54SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 33:56SPEAKER_14: I remember sneaking into the high school a couple times to record stuff.
- 34:00SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I remember that.
- 34:02SPEAKER_17: But I don't remember going to Gooville.
- 34:03SPEAKER_17: Me either.
- 34:04SPEAKER_17: Wow.
- 34:04SPEAKER_17: Uh that's the next lot, next word.
- 34:06SPEAKER_17: Wow.
- 34:07SPEAKER_17: Uh I'm proud to say I'm proud to say I now own uh I now own one piano.
- 34:14SPEAKER_17: Oh.
- 34:14SPEAKER_17: Yeehaw.
- 34:15SPEAKER_17: All or nothing just came on.
- 34:17SPEAKER_17: It's been a really long time since I've heard this one.
- 34:19SPEAKER_14: Do you remember that song?
- 34:21SPEAKER_14: Oh my word, yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_17: Do you remember it?
- 34:26SPEAKER_14: I'm trying to remember it.
- 34:28SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it was like a give me a oh.
- 34:31SPEAKER_14: Oh.
- 34:32SPEAKER_14: Bam or nothing.
- 34:34SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 34:35SPEAKER_14: Now I remember.
- 34:36SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 34:37SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 34:37SPEAKER_17: So anyway, here's what's happened in the past three years with the band.
- 34:40SPEAKER_17: First, tragedy.
- 34:42SPEAKER_17: Nathan graduated and moved away.
- 34:44SPEAKER_17: He got a great job and is living with Tom Peters in New Hampshire.
- 34:48SPEAKER_17: Before Nate left, we were actually counting uh courting someone to play rhythm guitar.
- 34:54SPEAKER_17: A guy I knew as a bassist in high school.
- 34:57SPEAKER_17: Well, you can probably guess when Nate left, enter Shane Mountain on bass.
- 35:01SPEAKER_17: By the way, Doug actually purchased a drum set, so we were actually turning into a real band, down to a three-piece.
- 35:07SPEAKER_17: Doug drums and vocals, Shane bass and vocals, Brian guitar and vocals.
- 35:11SPEAKER_17: We went through the process of learning lots of cover songs so we could make an attempt to making money.
- 35:16SPEAKER_17: So we played in bars, wedding receptions, in city parks, etc.
- 35:20SPEAKER_17: By the way, we changed our name to Common Crossing.
- 35:23SPEAKER_17: We actually didn't do a lot of Blake Street Boys material because we didn't have Nate.
- 35:27SPEAKER_17: So I wrote a little, not as much as before.
- 35:30SPEAKER_17: We have some good ones and bad.
- 35:31SPEAKER_17: I have to wake my wife for church.
- 35:33SPEAKER_17: I'll pick this up later.
- 35:35SPEAKER_17: It's just kind of neat that's a very good thing.
- 35:36SPEAKER_17: Yeah, the beginning of the band.
- 35:39SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 35:40SPEAKER_17: That's cool, man.
- 35:41SPEAKER_17: Uh let's see.
- 35:45SPEAKER_17: Um March 28th.
- 35:49SPEAKER_17: Is this the same day?
- 35:51SPEAKER_17: It is the same day.
- 35:52SPEAKER_17: Uh I'm back for a few minutes.
- 35:56SPEAKER_17: So anyway, now we find out Shane is moving to Portland.
- 36:00SPEAKER_17: Oh yeah.
- 36:01SPEAKER_17: So three years later, we left without a we're left without a bass player once again.
- 36:06SPEAKER_17: We're auditioning a couple people, but nothing is solid yet.
- 36:09SPEAKER_17: Doug and I just want to play.
- 36:11SPEAKER_17: That's all it was ever about.
- 36:12SPEAKER_17: Common Crossing has had lots of ups and downs.
- 36:14SPEAKER_17: We've won awards and everything.
- 36:16SPEAKER_17: Did we?
- 36:17SPEAKER_14: Well, we won that talent show.
- 36:18SPEAKER_17: Maybe that's what I'm talking about.
- 36:21SPEAKER_17: I think we got like 200 bucks.
- 36:23SPEAKER_17: Illusions of grandeur.
- 36:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 36:25SPEAKER_17: We'll get through this one.
- 36:26SPEAKER_17: As for me, I've I've had gone through many style changes or moods, if you will, but rock and roll is still in my heart.
- 36:34SPEAKER_17: I've been doing some soundtrack work too.
- 36:36SPEAKER_17: Now Doug graduates college in May of this year.
- 36:38SPEAKER_17: If he takes a job somewhere else, then there may be a problem.
- 36:44SPEAKER_17: I'll fill you in once we audition this guy, or I at least get to meet him.
- 36:49SPEAKER_17: Gotta go say hi to the big man now.
- 36:53SPEAKER_14: So I wonder who that was.
- 36:56SPEAKER_14: Was it Mike?
- 36:57SPEAKER_14: Um because that's who we eventually got, but oh, this one says I was ticked to duck.
- 37:02SPEAKER_17: Oh, what'd I do?
- 37:04SPEAKER_17: Let's find out.
- 37:05SPEAKER_17: This is April.
- 37:06SPEAKER_17: Let's read on.
- 37:07SPEAKER_17: This is April 14th, 1998.
- 37:10SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 37:11SPEAKER_17: Uh I didn't realize that you had done this.
- 37:14SPEAKER_17: What'd I do?
- 37:15SPEAKER_17: Uh we have a habit in this band of doing this because Shane did the same thing.
- 37:20SPEAKER_17: Yes, I'm at work.
- 37:21SPEAKER_17: We auditioned a bass player last night.
- 37:23SPEAKER_17: He's a friend of Doug's, a 17-year-old junior in high school.
- 37:26SPEAKER_17: He's a great kid, but not a real hot player.
- 37:29SPEAKER_17: At this point At this point, I need to think of the speedy recovery of the band.
- 37:34SPEAKER_17: I was kind of ticked at Doug for jumping the gun and telling this kid that he was in the band.
- 37:39SPEAKER_17: This is the kind of thing that makes me want to go it alone.
- 37:42SPEAKER_17: The only problem with going solo is that most of my music is no fun to play alone.
- 37:46SPEAKER_17: Plus, a lot of a lot a lot of it I don't really like all that much.
- 37:51SPEAKER_17: But I do have the ability to write a really memorable tune and I like doing that.
- 37:55SPEAKER_17: Anyway, the family is fine, trudging away at the bills and such.
- 37:58SPEAKER_17: I'm about to make some requests for time off.
- 38:01SPEAKER_17: I better get back to work.
- 38:02SPEAKER_17: Was it Nathan?
- 38:03SPEAKER_17: Uh Nate Willette?
- 38:07SPEAKER_17: Did was it?
- 38:08SPEAKER_17: I bet it was.
- 38:09SPEAKER_17: Did you tell him that he was?
- 38:11SPEAKER_14: No, I never told him he was in the band.
- 38:14SPEAKER_14: Remember he came and wrote a song with us?
- 38:16SPEAKER_14: Yes, I remember that.
- 38:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 38:18SPEAKER_14: And I remember he played with us a a time or two.
- 38:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah, we worked we used to work together at uh Was that what was he a junior in high school when you worked together?
- 38:26SPEAKER_14: No, I thought he was in college.
- 38:27SPEAKER_14: I thought so too.
- 38:30SPEAKER_17: So this must have been somebody else.
- 38:33SPEAKER_14: But I can't remember who that would have been.
- 38:34SPEAKER_17: Yeah, me either.
- 38:36SPEAKER_17: But I say that because you know That's how we got Josh.
- 38:40SPEAKER_14: That's how we got Josh because Jane was.
- 38:41SPEAKER_14: Shame, you're in.
- 38:44SPEAKER_14: Then we had to kick him out.
- 38:45SPEAKER_14: History repeats itself.
- 38:48SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I don't remember.
- 38:49SPEAKER_14: I don't remember.
- 38:50SPEAKER_14: It had to have been Nathan.
- 38:52SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I it hadn't been Nathan.
- 38:53SPEAKER_14: I would think, right?
- 38:54SPEAKER_14: But he wasn't in high school and junior 17.
- 38:58SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_14: No, because no, he was We worked together somewhere.
- 39:02SPEAKER_14: Was it Burrell's?
- 39:03SPEAKER_14: Maybe.
- 39:04SPEAKER_14: Had to have been.
- 39:05SPEAKER_14: Did he work at Burrell?
- 39:06SPEAKER_17: Did he work at Burrell's in high school?
- 39:07SPEAKER_17: He didn't.
- 39:08SPEAKER_17: He would have had a no, he would have worked in high school.
- 39:10SPEAKER_17: Yeah?
- 39:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_14: He would he would have only been there like a couple hours like after school.
- 39:14SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 39:14SPEAKER_14: So yeah, it must have been.
- 39:16SPEAKER_14: 98.
- 39:17SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I was working there in 98.
- 39:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 39:21SPEAKER_17: So you think it was neat?
- 39:22SPEAKER_14: Gotta be.
- 39:23SPEAKER_14: That's the only person I can think of.
- 39:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 39:24SPEAKER_14: Because he did come and hang out and write write a song with us.
- 39:28SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 39:28SPEAKER_14: So.
- 39:29SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I remember that.
- 39:30SPEAKER_17: It's gotta be him.
- 39:30SPEAKER_14: Wow, that's better than a name I haven't thought of in the world.
- 39:33SPEAKER_17: I know, right?
- 39:34SPEAKER_17: We should look him up.
- 39:35SPEAKER_17: That'd be kind of neat.
- 39:36SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 39:36SPEAKER_17: But isn't that cool?
- 39:37SPEAKER_17: That's I mean, that was neat.
- 39:38SPEAKER_17: That's like That was the last entry, too.
- 39:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah, that that's historical, man.
- 39:41SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 39:41SPEAKER_14: You were so mad at me you couldn't write anywhere.
- 39:44SPEAKER_14: Freaking dog, I'm never gonna write again.
- 39:48SPEAKER_14: And here you are.
- 39:49SPEAKER_14: I'm gonna kick his ass out of the bed.
- 39:51SPEAKER_14: And here you are.
- 39:53SPEAKER_14: 30 years later.
- 39:55SPEAKER_14: Crazy.
- 39:58SPEAKER_14: No, that's awesome, man.
- 39:59SPEAKER_14: That's what that that's that's nostalgic.
- 40:01SPEAKER_14: Right?
- 40:01SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 40:02SPEAKER_17: It's a nice thinking back to all the stuff.
- 40:04SPEAKER_17: I looked at that and I'm like, oh, I'm gonna put this on the podcast.
- 40:06SPEAKER_14: It would have been really cool though, is if you had kept that three-year gap, if you had kept journaling during that time.
- 40:13SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 40:13SPEAKER_14: Because then then you would talk about gigs and that would have been like, wow.
- 40:18SPEAKER_14: Um I mean, that would have been like, dang.
- 40:20SPEAKER_14: Because that would have been We played the four seasons then, right?
- 40:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah, we used to play the four seasons.
- 40:24SPEAKER_14: Our very first gig at that uh that rot that uh what was it the the thing in Maple?
- 40:31SPEAKER_17: Mapleton days, right?
- 40:32SPEAKER_14: It was Maple, I think it was Mapleton days, but it was that um what are they called?
- 40:36SPEAKER_14: Gazebo?
- 40:36SPEAKER_14: Gazebo right there on Main Street.
- 40:38SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I remember that.
- 40:39SPEAKER_14: Which is still a rabbit out of your head! It was like our very first public kid.
- 40:43SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 40:44SPEAKER_17: When we we played at uh Shane's um Uncle Dennis?
- 40:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah, his wedding reception.
- 40:49SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 40:49SPEAKER_17: That was uh um that was crazy.
- 40:51SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 40:52SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it was and we were terrible.
- 40:54SPEAKER_14: Oh, yeah.
- 40:56SPEAKER_14: Well, I mean, at the time I mean, we look back on it now.
- 40:58SPEAKER_14: We yeah, we were like, oh man, that's terrible.
- 41:00SPEAKER_14: But at the time we were like, oh wow, look at us go.
- 41:04SPEAKER_14: Yeah, you know, we're you know the band.
- 41:07SPEAKER_14: Well, I mean, we were.
- 41:08SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 41:08SPEAKER_14: But I mean, you know, I mean, hindsight is, you know, now that we look back on it, we're like, oh boy, that was.
- 41:15SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I compare I compare the band that we're playing with now to what we were then.
- 41:19SPEAKER_14: Yeah, if we if we opened if if if past us opened for the syndicate, nobody would ever come see the syndicate ever again.
- 41:26SPEAKER_14: They'd be like, why why did they bring these guys?
- 41:28SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 41:29SPEAKER_14: So yeah.
- 41:30SPEAKER_17: It was anyway.
- 41:31SPEAKER_17: I was uh I was clean and I found that and I thought that's awesome.
- 41:34SPEAKER_17: Uh that was really cool.
- 41:35SPEAKER_17: So cool.
- 41:35SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 41:36SPEAKER_14: You gotta hang on to that.
- 41:37SPEAKER_17: That's I'm going to.
- 41:38SPEAKER_17: That's history right here.
- 41:39SPEAKER_17: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:39SPEAKER_17: No, I'm going to.
- 41:40SPEAKER_17: Uh okay, I have a couple of things.
- 41:43SPEAKER_17: Actually, um, one song to hear.
- 41:46SPEAKER_17: It's a new uh new Peter Gabriel.
- 41:48SPEAKER_17: Oh, well, it was a full moon.
- 41:49SPEAKER_17: It was a full moon uh while we were gone.
- 41:52SPEAKER_17: Another song that comes out of the brain uh show that I am working on, and the character has been effectively torn apart and is trying to reassemble himself one piece at a time.
- 42:01SPEAKER_17: I needed a character for the story, and I always wanted to do a little more with Mozo, who I had introduced many years back.
- 42:08SPEAKER_17: Gabriel is just a weird guy.
- 42:09SPEAKER_17: He is a weird guy.
- 42:10SPEAKER_17: He's just a weird I mean, he's super smart, but uh yeah, weird from his uh OI album.
- 42:17SPEAKER_17: Uh so this is called uh One by One.
- 42:20SPEAKER_17: So we'll hear a little bit of that, and hopefully there's no political ads.
- 42:28SPEAKER_17: Oh, it's nine and a half minutes later.
- 42:30SPEAKER_14: Holy crap.
- 42:34SPEAKER_17: We won't be hearing all nine and a half minutes.
- 43:36SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it says Mosier with a broken man.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: So rock light at the start.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Later on, he fell apart, left slivers on the road.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: When strangers asked him, where do you come from?
- 44:36SPEAKER_00: He said, No, fix the boat.
- 44:39SPEAKER_17: Kinda hoping for a chorus.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: And a first thing.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: The clowns came in and swept around him.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: They were bringing the rain.
- 44:58SPEAKER_00: Go to the course.
- 45:00SPEAKER_12: Right here.
- 45:01SPEAKER_12: Go.
- 45:01SPEAKER_07: Good is a bright side of mix, by the way.
- 45:29SPEAKER_17: I was about to say it must be a bright side.
- 45:31SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 45:42SPEAKER_17: So we just heard three minutes of it.
- 45:45SPEAKER_14: I have a feeling this is pretty much the structure of the song.
- 45:48SPEAKER_17: I think it is too.
- 45:48SPEAKER_17: The song is called One by One.
- 45:50SPEAKER_14: I like it.
- 45:51SPEAKER_17: No, I do too.
- 45:52SPEAKER_17: I like it a lot.
- 45:53SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I do too.
- 45:54SPEAKER_17: I like um I think the last, I don't know, three or four songs that we've heard from Gabriel.
- 45:59SPEAKER_17: Been great.
- 46:00SPEAKER_17: I've I've dug them.
- 46:01SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 46:01SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 46:02SPEAKER_17: So that's pretty cool.
- 46:03SPEAKER_12: That's awesome, man.
- 46:04SPEAKER_17: Um the other thing that I wanted to um kind of try and tackle was a headline that I saw.
- 46:12SPEAKER_17: You know this song.
- 46:14SPEAKER_14: No, I've never heard this song ever.
- 46:17SPEAKER_14: What is it?
- 46:19SPEAKER_14: Are you fibbing?
- 46:22SPEAKER_12: I'm lying.
- 46:24SPEAKER_17: Um there is a um headline, Rick Springfield's Jesse's Girl, 15 Facts You May Not Know.
- 46:31SPEAKER_17: Oh.
- 46:32SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 46:32SPEAKER_17: Uh so I thought this would kind of be neat too.
- 46:36SPEAKER_17: Because this is the guy that is this is an iconic song.
- 46:39SPEAKER_17: Some guy that made me want to be a musician.
- 46:42SPEAKER_17: Um, the inspiration hit in a stained glass class.
- 46:49SPEAKER_17: I don't think I even knew that.
- 46:50SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 46:51SPEAKER_17: Springfield's music career hadn't taken off the way he had hoped, and he has yet to get his big acting break, or was yet.
- 46:57SPEAKER_17: As such, the aspiring rocker began thinking about other career paths.
- 47:02SPEAKER_17: Uh he said, I thought I'd better uh look for something else to support my future family, so I thought that I'd become a stained glass master.
- 47:11SPEAKER_17: Unexpectedly, it was while learning the fine art of stained glass that he came up with his signature song.
- 47:17SPEAKER_17: Uh originally Jesse wasn't involved at all.
- 47:20SPEAKER_17: I think I knew this.
- 47:21SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 47:21SPEAKER_17: Because it was uh Jesse, it was Gary.
- 47:25SPEAKER_17: Gary.
- 47:26SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 47:26SPEAKER_07: Uh there was a there was a couple Gary's girl! It doesn't work.
- 47:33SPEAKER_17: There was a couple in his stained glass class, a man named Gary and his girlfriend.
- 47:38SPEAKER_17: Um, the musician was floored by this woman's beauty, later admitting he was panting over her from afar.
- 47:44SPEAKER_17: Whenever he looked at her.
- 47:46SPEAKER_17: Yeah, right.
- 47:47SPEAKER_17: Read his book, you'll understand.
- 47:49SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 47:49SPEAKER_17: Uh he was also very shy, never even so much as introduced himself, let alone try to steal her away.
- 47:55SPEAKER_17: Instead, uh the feelings of angst and lust inspired the name the now famous song.
- 48:02SPEAKER_17: Uh Springfield recognized that Gary's girl did not have a nice root.
- 48:05SPEAKER_17: No, it does just doesn't.
- 48:08SPEAKER_17: Uh so where does Jesse come from?
- 48:09SPEAKER_17: After determining Gary wasn't right, Springfield chose another moniker, Randy.
- 48:17SPEAKER_14: I wish I had Randy's getting- No, it doesn't work, man.
- 48:21SPEAKER_17: The singer crafted most of the two with this name in place, yet something still wasn't right.
- 48:25SPEAKER_17: After seeing a t-shirt featuring NFL wide receiver Ron Jesse, Springfield finally found the right name.
- 48:31SPEAKER_17: The song was changed to Jesse's Girl and is now etched in rock record.
- 48:34SPEAKER_14: That makes sense that makes sense.
- 48:35SPEAKER_17: The idea for Jesse's Girl came quickly, but the song took months.
- 48:39SPEAKER_17: Um The Riff came first, and although it's a pretty simple-sounding song, it wasn't easy to write.
- 48:44SPEAKER_17: It took about two months working on the guitar and piano.
- 48:48SPEAKER_17: Uh, I I knew this too, I think you knew this, that the guitar solo that you just heard kind of in the background.
- 48:53SPEAKER_17: Was Neil Giraldo?
- 48:54SPEAKER_17: Yeah, Spider.
- 48:55SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 48:55SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 48:55SPEAKER_17: Spider.
- 48:56SPEAKER_17: Pat Manatar's husband and guitar player.
- 48:59SPEAKER_17: Oops.
- 49:00SPEAKER_14: Um and Keith Olsen was the producer.
- 49:03SPEAKER_14: Well, Spider tells a great story about him recording the tracks for the song, and the dog, Rick Springfield's dog, would like sit like right in front of him while he was playing.
- 49:14SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 49:16SPEAKER_17: This is the dog that was on the album covers.
- 49:17SPEAKER_17: Yeah, the working dog.
- 49:18SPEAKER_17: Yeah, working class dog.
- 49:19SPEAKER_14: Working class dog.
- 49:20SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 49:20SPEAKER_14: That dog, he used to sit like right in front of me, he was like a pit bull.
- 49:23SPEAKER_14: He was like because he was like, if I screw up, is he gonna bite me?
- 49:27SPEAKER_17: I think I think I've seen that story, actually.
- 49:30SPEAKER_17: Uh Keith Olsen, known for his work with Fleet with Mac, Grateful Dead, Foreigner, and more, produced working class dog.
- 49:35SPEAKER_17: Uh it was he who introduced Springfield to Neil Giraldo.
- 49:39SPEAKER_17: Um the story just nailed me of Jesse's Girl because being a guy, we've all been through this.
- 49:44SPEAKER_17: Every guy everywhere has a friend, and he meets his friend's girlfriend, and we fall for a moment in love with that girlfriend.
- 49:50SPEAKER_17: If you ever run into a guy who says, Nope, that's never happened to me, he's lying.
- 49:54unknown: He's lying.
- 49:55SPEAKER_17: Uh the record label didn't hear a hit.
- 49:57SPEAKER_17: When considering which song to release as the first single, the record label passed over Jesse's Girl for a different tune.
- 50:03SPEAKER_17: Uh Springfield's rendition of Sammy Hagar's I've Done Everything for You.
- 50:07SPEAKER_17: What's that?
- 50:08SPEAKER_17: What noise?
- 50:10SPEAKER_17: No.
- 50:12SPEAKER_17: What does it sound like?
- 50:15SPEAKER_17: That was my computer.
- 50:16SPEAKER_14: Oh, okay.
- 50:16SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 50:17SPEAKER_17: Anyway, sorry.
- 50:20SPEAKER_14: Yep, that's it.
- 50:21SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 50:22SPEAKER_17: Uh it's just when it gets when it gets hot.
- 50:24SPEAKER_17: Right, doesn't it?
- 50:25SPEAKER_17: Um I've done everything for you.
- 50:29SPEAKER_17: Remember that one?
- 50:29SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 50:30SPEAKER_17: Uh the Sammy Hagar tune.
- 50:31SPEAKER_17: I think they were hoping to cash in on whatever popularity Sammy had at the time.
- 50:35SPEAKER_17: They didn't even really consider Jesse's Girl as a single end.
- 50:38SPEAKER_17: I I think you know this, but uh um Sammy Hagar and and uh Rick Springfield are business partners.
- 50:45SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 50:46SPEAKER_17: In a drink or something.
- 50:47SPEAKER_14: Yeah, something like that.
- 50:48SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 50:49SPEAKER_17: One of Sammy's many business.
- 50:51SPEAKER_17: Yes.
- 50:51SPEAKER_17: It was a long slow burn to the top.
- 50:54SPEAKER_17: Um see now, I thought uh this was gonna be different.
- 50:57SPEAKER_17: I don't care if it was a long slow burn to the top.
- 50:59SPEAKER_17: Jesse's girl scored Springfield his first Grammy.
- 51:02SPEAKER_17: Uh I th I don't think I knew that.
- 51:04SPEAKER_17: It inspired a Jimmy Kimmel sketch.
- 51:06SPEAKER_17: Do you remember that sketch?
- 51:07SPEAKER_17: The making of the album or making of the song Jesse's Girl?
- 51:10SPEAKER_17: Did you see that?
- 51:11SPEAKER_17: I don't think I ever saw that.
- 51:12SPEAKER_17: It was pretty funny.
- 51:12SPEAKER_17: Uh uh, maybe we'll play it here because uh uh let's come back to that.
- 51:18SPEAKER_17: It's regularly ranked among the 80s' greatest songs.
- 51:21SPEAKER_17: Oprah tried and failed to track down the real Jesse's Girl.
- 51:24SPEAKER_17: There's a Jesse's Girl sequel.
- 51:27SPEAKER_17: Uh, in 2020, prong rock group Coheat and Cambria released Jesse's Girl 2, a sequel to the classic track.
- 51:34SPEAKER_17: Lyrically, the song revealed that the narrator was able to successfully steal away Jesse's Girl, only to later regret it.
- 51:40SPEAKER_17: Lyrics included the flip side of Jesse's Girl that no one knows, she's out of, she's out of, she's out of her mind.
- 51:46SPEAKER_17: And sure, I probably deserved it.
- 51:48SPEAKER_17: What kind of friend was I?
- 51:49SPEAKER_17: Springfield contributed to the song and also appeared in its music video.
- 51:53SPEAKER_17: I did not know that.
- 51:54SPEAKER_17: I didn't know that either.
- 51:55SPEAKER_17: Jesse's Girl in movies and TV shows.
- 51:58SPEAKER_17: Uh it was in Boogie Nights, Couples Retreat, 13 going on 30, 2.5 Manites, uh, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dawson's Creek, Alvin and the Chipmunks.
- 52:07SPEAKER_17: Uh, and Jesse's Girl, of course, was recorded at Sound City.
- 52:11SPEAKER_17: Sound City.
- 52:12SPEAKER_17: Yes, which is a big part of that uh documentary that Dave uh Grohl did.
- 52:16SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 52:17SPEAKER_14: Um I think that's where I saw that Neil Dorado uh.
- 52:19SPEAKER_14: You're probably right.
- 52:20SPEAKER_14: I think from that.
- 52:21SPEAKER_17: Because that looked that sounded familiar when you said it.
- 52:23SPEAKER_17: Uh I don't know if you're gonna be able to get um the gist of this skit, but I figure I'll I'll try and play it uh if it's not too long.
- 52:32SPEAKER_17: This uh Jimmy Kimmelski.
- 52:33SPEAKER_17: Oh, it's three minutes.
- 52:37SPEAKER_04: All right, guys, we ready to do this?
- 52:40SPEAKER_04: Yeah, right.
- 52:41SPEAKER_04: Okay, is that Rick?
- 52:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: I was up late last night with this one.
- 52:45SPEAKER_04: So uh Scoob, you come in with the bass line, I told you.
- 52:48SPEAKER_04: Bum, bum, bum.
- 52:50SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: And Jesse, just hi hat.
- 52:55SPEAKER_03: There's fours on the hi-hat to begin with, okay?
- 52:57SPEAKER_03: Okay, cool.
- 52:59SPEAKER_03: Monica?
- 53:02SPEAKER_03: We just enjoy it.
- 53:05SPEAKER_03: Okay, we're rolling in there.
- 53:09SPEAKER_03: Here we go.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: Jesse is a friend.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, it's been a good friend of mine.
- 53:25SPEAKER_04: So changing hard to define.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: Jesse's got himself a girl and I wanna make a mic.
- 53:35SPEAKER_04: Come on here.
- 53:36SPEAKER_04: Come on, sounding good.
- 53:39SPEAKER_16: Got a problem?
- 53:40SPEAKER_16: Uh I uh no, I mean I guess not.
- 53:46SPEAKER_16: Alright, where was I?
- 53:48SPEAKER_16: Jesse's got himself a girl and I wanna make a wanna make a jack.
- 53:52SPEAKER_04: Jesse's got himself a girl and I wanna make a money.
- 54:20SPEAKER_04: Come on, are you being you're being paranoid?
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: Is he always just paranoid?
- 54:25SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, if your relationship's that shaky, you know, I'm just thinking maybe you should be with somebody else.
- 54:34SPEAKER_17: It's cool.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: Good, fine.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: Still rolling?
- 55:00SPEAKER_05: Jesse.
- 55:01SPEAKER_02: What is what is your problem?
- 55:03SPEAKER_12: No.
- 55:04SPEAKER_12: That's not cool, Rick.
- 55:06SPEAKER_05: Justy!
- 55:07SPEAKER_12: Rick.
- 55:08SPEAKER_05: Jesse!
- 55:11SPEAKER_12: That's not cool.
- 55:14SPEAKER_04: What's going on with him?
- 55:15SPEAKER_04: Why is he acting so?
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 55:18SPEAKER_01: God, ever since I told him I was pregnant, it's just been like disaster.
- 55:23SPEAKER_12: You're pregnant?
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:29SPEAKER_05: Jesse.
- 55:31SPEAKER_05: Jesse, we're all good, pal.
- 55:39SPEAKER_17: That was pretty good.
- 55:40SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it was.
- 55:43SPEAKER_17: Um what the I haven't heard the Cohed and Cambria Jesse's Girl 2.
- 55:56SPEAKER_17: And this does have Rick in it.
- 56:00SPEAKER_14: Well, in the video, not in the song and stuff like that.
- 56:13SPEAKER_14: Notice here's the bartender, right?
- 56:14SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 56:15SPEAKER_14: Did you see what he was pouring?
- 56:17SPEAKER_14: What's it say?
- 56:17SPEAKER_14: What's the same as the bottle?
- 56:58SPEAKER_14: I like the song too.
- 56:59SPEAKER_14: Yeah, the song's pretty good.
- 57:03SPEAKER_14: What's that called again?
- 57:04SPEAKER_14: Jesse's Girl 2.
- 57:05SPEAKER_14: Jesse's Girl 2.
- 57:07SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 57:13SPEAKER_17: I'm not gonna play the whole thing.
- 57:15SPEAKER_17: Uh, so yeah, uh go and uh uh you can look up uh Rick Springfield, Jesse's Girl, Jimmy Kimmel if you want to see that sketch.
- 57:23SPEAKER_17: And this is Coheating Cambria, Jesse's Girl 2, uh, which is a cool uh video you can find on YouTube.
- 57:29SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 57:29SPEAKER_14: Good stuff.
- 57:29SPEAKER_14: That's awesome.
- 57:30SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 57:31SPEAKER_14: A lot of new stuff.
- 57:32SPEAKER_17: A lot of new stuff.
- 57:34SPEAKER_17: Uh let's see.
- 57:35SPEAKER_17: Stuffy stuff.
- 57:41SPEAKER_17: Oh, um the other thing, so I was looking for uh other things to talk about.
- 57:46SPEAKER_17: Uh you know what is is uh happening a lot lately, and it's unavoidable.
- 57:54SPEAKER_17: Stars are you know our our favorite stars, rock stars, are canceling due to health issues.
- 58:01SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, they're like 80.
- 58:03SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 58:03SPEAKER_17: Uh I mean it's it's it's all over the place.
- 58:06SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 58:07SPEAKER_17: Glenn Hughes to undergo heart surgery and retire from performing.
- 58:11SPEAKER_17: Um where where was it here?
- 58:15SPEAKER_17: Um Sebastian Bach is starting a new album.
- 58:23SPEAKER_17: Boring.
- 58:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I know.
- 58:25SPEAKER_17: Uh Phil Collins reveals he nearly died in 2024.
- 58:28SPEAKER_17: Um I know there there was uh more here.
- 58:35SPEAKER_17: I know Tom Kiefer from Cinderella just canceled a bunch of stuff.
- 58:40SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 58:40SPEAKER_17: Because of his throw-in.
- 58:42SPEAKER_17: Um Adrian Vandenberg cancels his tour due to health issues.
- 58:46SPEAKER_17: Uh warrants Steven Sweet, the drummer, from crumbling inside with health problems.
- 58:51SPEAKER_17: Um let's see.
- 58:56SPEAKER_14: I read an interview with uh Tommy Lee about McMars.
- 58:59SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I think that's a good one.
- 59:01SPEAKER_14: Like he was like amazed that he could even play.
- 59:04SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 59:04SPEAKER_17: Because of his disorder.
- 59:05SPEAKER_17: Because of his disorder, yeah.
- 59:07SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 59:08SPEAKER_17: Uh Chris Holmes from Lost Fighting Cancer for the second time.
- 59:11SPEAKER_17: Tom Kiefer cancels tour.
- 59:14SPEAKER_17: Um, yeah, I mean, it's just it's all over the place.
- 59:17SPEAKER_17: And not only on top of that, um there's also this thing called blue dot fever.
- 59:23SPEAKER_17: Have you ever read anything about this?
- 59:25SPEAKER_17: No.
- 59:26SPEAKER_17: It's lack of attendance at shows.
- 59:30SPEAKER_17: Um so what what happens is they announce a show and people don't buy tickets right away.
- 59:41SPEAKER_17: Because nine times out of ten, if you wait, you can you can get 'em cheaper.
- 59:46SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 59:47SPEAKER_14: Have you seen ticket prices lately?
- 59:49SPEAKER_17: Right, exactly.
- 59:50SPEAKER_17: So so nobody's buying them when uh from the on sale date.
- 59:54SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 59:54SPEAKER_17: And so they wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait until the there's almost time for the show.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_17: And at that point, they haven't sold very many tickets, so they cancel the show.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_17: And they call it Blue Dot Fever.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_17: And some tours are being canceled because uh because of it, because they can't fill the seats.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_17: And I was just reading, um, so I have a friend on Facebook that went to the Joe Bonamasa concert.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_17: I know Pat went.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_17: I haven't talked to him.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah, my friend Roger went.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_17: He said it was great.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_17: He he I I haven't talked to Pat yet.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_17: I'm sure he said he said it was great too, but I heard there were a lot of empty seats.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_17: Like the whole section 200 wasn't.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_14: But it's Joe Bonamasa.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_17: And government mule.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_14: Not huge draws unless you're into that, unless you're into blues.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_17: Right, I suppose.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_17: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_17: Toto was packed.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_14: Well, I mean, it's Toto.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_17: Who's who's not gonna go see Toto?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I you know, and I haven't.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_14: Weird Out I I understand Weird Out was pretty packed.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_17: I I can't I can't you know because Toto was also we got there late.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_17: I forgot to tell you this.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_14: So it was also the romantics and uh Christopher Cross.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_17: Christopher Cross.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_17: So we got there maybe two songs into Christopher Cross.
- 1:01:04SPEAKER_17: We completely missed the romantics.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_17: Um and uh Christopher Cross was great, but it was very mellow.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_17: Yeah, which you expect.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_17: He's almost 80.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_14: Christopher Cross.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_17: That was kind of his thing.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_17: Yeah, and uh but they were using tracks, uh, which is unfortunate.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_14: Um Yeah, but that's I I saw what was he talking about?
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_14: Backing tracks.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_14: Was it Rick Beato?
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_14: I was watching something yesterday.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_14: I think it was Rick Beatto.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_14: It's like backing tracks or everybody's doing it.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_14: Everybody's doing it.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_17: Yeah, everybody.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_17: So Nikki Six just did an interview where he admitted that they were using backing tracks and gave a reason why.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_17: I can't remember what it was, but but yeah.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_17: Um and I mean it was it was it was good, but Total came out and just killed the place.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_17: But anyway.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_14: That's Toto, man.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_17: They're monsters.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_17: Uh let's see.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_17: Let's do this.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_17: Because we can.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_17: Because we haven't done it in almost three weeks.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah! Oh yeah.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_17: We're gonna magically transport you to 85.

- 1:02:40SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_17: Uh a man hates the rolling stones.

- 1:03:46SPEAKER_17: It's got a cool birthmark.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_17: That's a weird thing.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_17: It's poorly explained.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_14: I guess.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_17: You may not have seen it, actually.

- 1:06:18SPEAKER_17: I know, right?
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_17: Uh and it's like a little mystery.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_17: Even if I did figure it out, it would still be cool as crap.

- 1:07:08SPEAKER_12: Or both?
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_14: Or both?
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_14: You know, during the day.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_14: Working on nuclear bombs at night.

- 1:08:25SPEAKER_01: And they were fun.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, I do agree with O'Brien though.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_01: The Pink Pony Club is the horrible song.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, the Basel Ratchet, yeah.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but I absolutely had to go with uh Doug's pick this uh week for the phone.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_01: Do you remember what you picked?

- 1:08:42SPEAKER_01: I love that song.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_17: I kinda love everything Pink does.
- 1:08:46SPEAKER_17: Pink's awesome.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_17: Pink's awesome.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_17: I like pink.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_14: I'm not talking about the color.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_14: Maybe I am.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_17: Oh, okay.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_17: You went a different way.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_17: All right.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_14: Ah, well, I well, I I realize what I said, and I'm gonna apologize, Blanchard Children.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_14: Especially especially to Abby and Laura.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_17: So they won't know what that means.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_17: Ah, I hope.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_17: They're so sweet though.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_14: Yeah, oh no, I I well, you know, I got I had, you know, because they both came to camp camp last week.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_14: I got to know them, and they're they're just so sweet.

- 1:09:27SPEAKER_14: They're all like, my god, they all could be twins.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_17: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_14: You know, and I was like, yeah, they're like Russian nesting dolls.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_14: You know, it's so true.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_14: You know what I mean?
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_14: It's so true.
- 1:09:35SPEAKER_14: You know, it's great.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_17: But uh uh Okay, so oh, we have to do present.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_17: So the present question is Are you ready for this?
- 1:09:47SPEAKER_17: I'm ready, my.
- 1:09:48SPEAKER_17: I am not ready for this.
- 1:09:49SPEAKER_17: I have not picked one.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_17: Um if you had but one country song to listen to while stranded on a deserted island, what would it be?
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_14: So that's what this is what cousin Larry said.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_14: I don't listen to much country music these days, but I enjoy the old stuff.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_14: Which he takes after his dad.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_14: Uh I wasn't sure if I should interpret the question as a song I would I just love to listen to or want to associate with being stranded on an island.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_14: Fair.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_14: Some favorite tunes I thought of.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I think it's it's it's if you you're if you have to hear it over and over and over.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_14: Yeah, it's gonna, you know, because you're on a deserted island.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_14: Uh some favorite tunes I thought of were I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash and Sing Me Back Home by Merle Haggard.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_17: Two greats.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_14: Uh George Strait Armor Amarillo by Morning.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_14: Another one.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_14: That's another favorite.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_14: Awesome song.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_14: But I think that I but I think if I am stranded on a deserted island, I will go with Toes by the Toes by the Zach Brown Band.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_14: Honorable mention to Garce Two Pinya Pinha Pina Caladas and also Islands in the Stream by Kenny and Dolly.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_14: If I'm on a deserted island, I might as well dream of tropical drinks and Dolly Parton doing the backstroke.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_14: For today.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_17: Great thing today.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_17: I was into KMH today.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_17: Oh, I was too.
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_17: And uh yeah, I was there just after you were.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_17: Oh, were you?
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:11:36SPEAKER_17: And so you'll know this because Morton says to me, Hey, I made a connection.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_16: That guy did?
- 1:11:41SPEAKER_16: He's like, Yeah.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_17: It was really funny.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_17: This guy, uh Larry, um, this guy named Larry comments on all our stuff every once in a while.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_17: Uh and I said, This guy's really cool.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_19: And then he's like, Wait, it's Larry.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_17: I said, Yes, for sure it is.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_19: I was still in the bag is like concrete cars with the home prison bars like this life I'm living in.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_19: But the plane brought me farther.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_19: I'm surrounded by water, and I'm not gone back again.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_19: I got my toes in the water, ass in the sand.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_19: I don't worry in a world of cold beard.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_19: My hand life is good today.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_17: You gotta you gotta put this part.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_05: How do you survive con deal?
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_17: I think we're supposed to be doing this song, aren't we?
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_14: I hope so.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_14: Yeah, I like the song.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_14: We did it with comic crossing.
- 1:12:47SPEAKER_14: Once or twice.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_14: Up at portage.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_02: I'd have no reason to stay.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_02: How do you survive con deal?
- 1:12:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm leaving TA.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_17: I'm still thinking of mine.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_14: Alright, go ahead.
- 1:13:02SPEAKER_14: What's yours?
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_14: Well, mine was pretty easy because I thought of it the second that the question came up was uh the David Allen co song I could never think of the name of.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_14: You c uh you you uh call me by my name, or you know what I mean?
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_14: You know which one I'm talking about.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_14: I do.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_14: I never I can never remember.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_17: You never even call me by my name.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_14: Never even called me by my name, yes.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_14: I love that song.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_14: I can listen to that over and over and over again.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_18: But it was all that I could do to keep from crying.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_14: Over and over again.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_14: I love this song.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_14: I love this song.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_18: It seems so useless to remain.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_18: But you don't have to call me Darlin.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_18: Darling.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_18: You never even call me by my name.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_15: The third verse is the best.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_15: Third verse.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_15: Should we just go play the third verse?
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_15: Wayland, Jenny.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_15: Hold on, let's see.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_18: Here we go.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_18: I wrote him back the letter and I told him it was not the perfect country in Western song.
- 1:14:18SPEAKER_18: Uh uh.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_18: He never talked.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_18: This is the best part.
- 1:14:23SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_14: That's why I can listen to the song over and over.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_18: Well, a friend of mine named Steve Goodman wrote that song, and he told me it was the perfect country in Western Song.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_18: I wrote him back the letter and I told him it was not the perfect country in Western Song because he hadn't said anything at all about mama.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_18: A train, a truck, a prison, or getting drunk.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_18: Well, he sat down and wrote another verse to the song and he sent it to me, and after reading it, I realized that my friend had written the perfect country and western song, and I felt obliged to include it on this album.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_18: The last verse goes like this here.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_18: But I was drawn the day my mom got out of prison and I went to pick her up and the ride.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_18: But it's up to get to the station and the pickup.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_17: Yes, that is classic.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_17: Yes, that is classic.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_17: Great song, great.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_17: Great song.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_17: I think I figured it out.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_17: Okay, and I think I I think I'm taking a cue from you going old.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_17: You and Cousin Larry.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_17: Actually, no, Cousin Larry went kind of new.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_14: He kind of newish, yeah.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_17: Newish.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_17: Uh I'm I'm going with this one.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_14: Oh, great song, man.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_14: Jerry Jerry Reed, the bird.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_14: Great song.
- 1:16:17SPEAKER_08: It is a getting late.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_08: I was like this ball on a member late when a guy with this bird on his shoulder walk through the door.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_08: Whiskey ribbon, whiskey ribbon.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_17: I'm not gonna play the whole song because you've got to hear you hear the end.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_17: I'm gonna leave you hanging.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 1:16:57SPEAKER_17: Let you know what what happens.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_17: I was gonna go with a Vince Gill song, uh, Go Rest High on that mountain.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah, yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_17: Uh, but uh I just forgot that was slow and lame.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_17: I'm on a desert island.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_17: I probably want to kill myself.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_14: I don't want to die.
- 1:17:13SPEAKER_14: I don't want to die.
- 1:17:14SPEAKER_14: I want to laugh.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_14: I want to live.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_17: Yeah, so Jerry Reed.
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_17: Love, live, laugh! The bird was my choice.
- 1:17:21SPEAKER_17: And uh You Never Even Call Me by My Name by David Allan Coe.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_17: Was Doug's choice, and cousin Larry picked Toes.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_17: Oh, my friend Justin.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_17: By the Zach Brown band.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_14: Weighed in, actually.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_14: I said I would read his.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_17: Weighed in on what?
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_17: On this.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_17: Oh, the country song?
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 1:17:37SPEAKER_14: Okay.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_14: Let me play it then.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_14: Uh so she can pick his.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_14: Oh, I hope I remembered to save it.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_17: She can pick from his too?
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_17: She can pick from it.
- 1:17:48SPEAKER_14: She wants to, yeah, sure.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_14: Why not?
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_12: Did I not save it?
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_17: I don't remember what the song was.
- 1:17:57SPEAKER_12: I thought I saved it.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_17: He let you down.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_14: I did, man.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_14: I'm sorry, dude.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_14: Maybe did he message you?
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_14: Maybe he messaged you.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_14: I don't know.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_14: Ah, shoot.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_14: I thought I could have swore I saved it in Snapchat.
- 1:18:27SPEAKER_14: See, I don't even mess around with Snapchat.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_14: Ah! My bad, Jay.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_14: I totally forgot, man.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_17: Um That's I um Alright, so now let's do the future.
- 1:18:46SPEAKER_14: Oh yeah, future.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_17: I remember.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_14: You remember?
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_14: I do.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_14: Well, you know, we take a couple weeks off.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_14: You're like, hey, my brain is all fresh.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_14: My brain is super fresh.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_14: Squeeze it, it's all super fresh.
- 1:19:01SPEAKER_14: That's a band name.
- 1:19:02SPEAKER_14: It is super fresh.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_14: Okay, that's kind of neat.
- 1:19:09SPEAKER_14: First try.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_14: I don't think we've done this one before.
- 1:19:12SPEAKER_14: Uh it's very simple.
- 1:19:13SPEAKER_14: Best song for a school cancelled snow day of sledding.
- 1:19:19SPEAKER_17: Best song for a school cancelled snow day of sledding.
- 1:19:26SPEAKER_14: It's worded a little weird, but yeah.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_14: So school cancelled because of it's a snow day song.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 1:19:33SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_14: So I'm gonna take a picture.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_17: And I'm gonna take a break.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_17: And we're gonna come back and we're gonna go back.
- 1:19:43SPEAKER_14: We're both gonna take a break, except I'm gonna do something while we're taking a break.
- 1:19:47SPEAKER_14: But so it's not really a break.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_14: We're actually working.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_14: It's a working break.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_14: I'm talking about that.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_14: I appreciate that.

- 1:21:19SPEAKER_17: And we're back.
- 1:21:25SPEAKER_17: I know.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_17: Crazy, man.
- 1:21:27SPEAKER_17: Let's do this.
- 1:21:28SPEAKER_08: O'Brien and Doug's wall of two.
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_08: Smash your trash! Smash your trash! That's right.
- 1:21:37SPEAKER_08: Smash your trash.
- 1:21:39SPEAKER_17: So two weeks ago, we picked uh we picked an album.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_17: And it was Simply Red's Greatest Hits.
- 1:21:49SPEAKER_17: Rod Show.
- 1:21:52SPEAKER_17: And I played a few uh few songs from it that uh you might know, including this one, Something Got Me Started.
- 1:21:58SPEAKER_17: We have um Stars.
- 1:22:06SPEAKER_17: But the ones that you might know the most would be something like this one, if you don't know me by now.
- 1:22:12SPEAKER_17: Originally done by Harold Melvin in the blue notes.
- 1:22:15SPEAKER_14: Yep.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_14: Long, long time ago.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_17: And then, of course, another another big one for them is this one holding back the ears.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_17: Okay, so I have uh several votes.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_17: Let me start with Jeff.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_17: Because he did um share that he was going to be um he was not happy with the two weeks off.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_14: Um, he he can just get over it.
- 1:22:49SPEAKER_17: Yeah, well he says, no, I'm not I'm not gonna be okay.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_17: Um I'm gonna be like a ship without a port, ice cream without a bowl, a car without gas, drifting without an oar, a fish out of water, Doug without his drums, or Brian without his guitar.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_14: He's quite prolific.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_17: He is.
- 1:23:06SPEAKER_17: Uh he votes Smash for Simply Red.
- 1:23:10SPEAKER_17: Some good mood music if you have a significant other, which you know, someday maybe I'll get on that horse again.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_17: And then he he proceeds to send a picture of he and my wife.
- 1:23:22SPEAKER_17: Yeah, that was a great picture.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_17: From the yearbook.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_17: They uh they were the senior superlatives that year.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_17: Uh Best Smile.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_17: Ah.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_17: Um makes sense.
- 1:23:29SPEAKER_17: So uh so that's one vote for Smash.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_14: Smashing.
- 1:23:33SPEAKER_14: You gotta play the you gotta play with the Oh, yes, I do.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_17: You gotta play the sound effect, man.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_17: You're right, I do.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_17: I don't actually I don't have to stop that while I do it.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_17: So that's one for smash Okay.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_17: Uh let's read uh Bounce and Bob.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_17: Alright.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_17: Uh Bounce and Bob says Actually, let me turn this off here.
- 1:23:59SPEAKER_17: Because it's it kind of does distract a little bit.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_17: So um Bounce and Bob says trash uh trash.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_17: Yep, he says trash.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_17: And here's why.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_17: Um sorry.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_17: It's been two weeks.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_17: Um Bounce and Bob says trash.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_17: It took me a while to decide the fate of Simply Red's album, but I never liked Simply Red.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_17: I am not holding back any tears either.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_17: One good song and mediocre music the rest of the way in his career.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_17: He was really, really big in Europe, UK, and Belgium, but I could not warm up to this band.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_17: So Bounce and Bob says trash! So that's one in Smash, one trash.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_17: Correct.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_17: Uh Cousin Larry.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_17: Um I was only familiar with a few tunes.
- 1:24:50SPEAKER_17: So I listened to the whole album.
- 1:24:52SPEAKER_17: I thought it was good, but probably not something I would pull out of the wall of tunes to listen to.
- 1:24:57SPEAKER_17: But it sounds like you really enjoy the album, so I'll vote Smash.
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_17: Okay, so that's two for Smash, one for trash.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_17: Um do we have any other votes?
- 1:25:13SPEAKER_17: The Judge.
- 1:25:14SPEAKER_17: Okay, and what was her vote?
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_17: Trash.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_17: The judge votes trash.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_17: Did she give any No, she gave no reason.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_14: Trash!
- 1:25:21SPEAKER_17: Okay, so we're tied.
- 1:25:22SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_17: So two votes for Smash, two votes for trash.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_17: What is your vote, my friend?
- 1:25:28SPEAKER_17: My vote is smash.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_17: Your vote is smash.
- 1:25:32SPEAKER_14: I really like a lot of those songs.
- 1:25:34SPEAKER_17: So it's down to me.
- 1:25:37SPEAKER_17: It is.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_17: It's down to me.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_17: I vote.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_17: Smash!
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_12: You're keeping it!
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_17: Yay! I will be keeping Simply Red.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_17: Um that goes on the pile with Sting and Robert Palmer.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_17: Yep.
- 1:25:52SPEAKER_17: Uh, and share Kenny Loggins and Quiet Riot will all be at uh KMH Music uh for you to um purchase at a very small price.
- 1:26:06SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_17: So I uh we I have to pick a new one for next week.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_17: And I have this stack over here.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_17: Remember, I told you I I I found a s uh a bunch of CDs that I was on the fence about.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_17: Whether I I want to keep them or or get rid of them.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_17: Because I am I am getting rid of a bunch of things of CDs.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_17: I've already made up my mind about that.
- 1:26:27SPEAKER_17: Okay.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_17: Um but this one I don't know.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_17: And I think you can probably tell from the look of the case what it is.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_12: I didn't even look at it.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_17: You didn't even look at well, you're good like that.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_17: Um it happens to be I actually wasn't paying attention.
- 1:26:47SPEAKER_14: That's that's really the reason.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_14: Whatever.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_14: I wasn't being, you know, noble or anything.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_14: I just wasn't paying attention.
- 1:27:01SPEAKER_14: It's a live CD.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_14: Nope.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_14: No.
- 1:27:06SPEAKER_15: This is just the opening track.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_15: It's forty two forty-two seconds long.
- 1:27:10SPEAKER_15: We're gonna go into track number one.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_12: What is this?
- 1:27:28SPEAKER_13: Okay.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_17: I don't dislike the album.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_17: So you don't recognize this at all?
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_17: Not at the moment.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_17: How about this one?
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_06: Come on, baby, now.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_06: Let me look at you and talk about yourself.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_13: Who is this?
- 1:27:52SPEAKER_06: Try to tell the truth.
- 1:27:53SPEAKER_13: Really?
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_06: I could stay up half the night trying to crack your gold.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_17: Stay up half tonight.
- 1:28:01SPEAKER_17: You can't figure out who that is.
- 1:28:12SPEAKER_14: I think I heard this song.
- 1:28:15SPEAKER_06: I just wanna know how you feel.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_07: What a love that so proud and race.
- 1:28:24SPEAKER_17: This is Egypt Station by Paul McCartney.
- 1:28:27SPEAKER_17: Oh, okay.
- 1:28:27SPEAKER_17: This is Sir Paul.
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_17: Oh, okay.
- 1:28:30SPEAKER_17: Um, this was a single.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_17: I just wanna phu.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_13: Oh, right, right, right, right.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_17: I think we talked about this not too long ago.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_17: We did, yeah.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_17: Um it's experimental.
- 1:28:48SPEAKER_14: I mean, he's he's he's like Well, I mean, you know, he's Paul McCartney.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_14: He's gotta challenge himself.
- 1:28:52SPEAKER_14: Right.
- 1:28:53SPEAKER_17: Yeah, and I don't fault him for it for it.
- 1:28:55SPEAKER_06: Ladies and gentlemen, standing before you have something important to say.
- 1:29:00SPEAKER_17: I don't know if I got into it.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_06: Right, but I'm not gonna let anything get my way.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_06: The message is simple, it's straight from my heart, and I know that you've heard it before.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_06: But what does it matter?
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_06: We're in it together.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_06: I'm not quitting my people right no more.
- 1:29:39unknown: Can find my love.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_17: No matter how hard I'm I have a bunch of Paul McCartney.
- 1:29:45SPEAKER_17: Yeah, I really do.
- 1:29:48SPEAKER_17: And obviously, you know I love Paul McCartney.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_14: Yes.
- 1:29:58SPEAKER_17: So that is the album.
- 1:30:01SPEAKER_17: Um I don't know, I'll play a couple.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_17: Oh, this this was a this is a good song.
- 1:30:07SPEAKER_17: This was the single, the first single, I think.
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_06: I saw you flash a smile that seemed to me to say You wanted so much more than casual conversation.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_06: I swear I caught a look before you turn away.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_06: Now I don't see the point resisting your temptation.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_06: Did you come on to me?
- 1:30:39SPEAKER_06: Will I come on to you?
- 1:30:41SPEAKER_06: If you come on to me, will I come on to you?
- 1:30:50SPEAKER_17: So that is the album, Egypt Station by Sir Paul McCartney.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_17: Um smash or trash, mash or trash.
