- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. This is episode one hundred. Can you believe it? Lucas: A hundred episodes. That's amazing. And today we're going back to a familiar place. Luna: Oh, where? Lucas: We're going to the park again. Last time we talked about describing views. Today we'll focus on describing trees. Luna: Oh, I love trees. They're so calming. Lucas: They are. So let's start with a basic phrase. If you see a very big tree, you can say: 好大棵樹. Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: Good. That means 'very big tree'. Let's break it down. 好 means 'very', 大 means 'big', 棵 is a measure word for trees, and 樹 is 'tree'. Luna: So 好大棵樹 is literally 'very big tree'. Lucas: Exactly. Can you say it again? Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: Perfect. Now, what if the tree is very tall? You can say: 好高. Luna: 好高. That's simple. It just means 'very tall'. Lucas: Right. You can use it for trees, buildings, anything tall. Let's practice. Imagine you're at the park and you see a tall tree. What do you say? Luna: 好高. Lucas: Excellent. Now let's combine them. If you see a big tall tree, you can say: 好大棵樹好高. Luna: 好大棵樹好高. That's a bit of a mouthful. Lucas: It is, but you'll get used to it. Now, what if there are many trees? You can say: 好多樹. Luna: 好多樹. 'Many trees'. That's useful. Lucas: Yeah. And if the trees are very green, you can say: 好綠. Luna: 好綠. 'Very green'. Lucas: Let's try a little dialogue. I'll be you at the park, and you describe what you see. Ready? Luna: Ready. Lucas: Look at that tree. It's so big. Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: And it's very tall. Luna: 好高. Lucas: And there are so many trees around. Luna: 好多樹. Lucas: And the leaves are so green. Luna: 好綠. Lucas: You did great. Now, let's practice the phrases again. Repeat after me. 好大棵樹. Luna: 好大棵樹. Lucas: 好高. Luna: 好高. Lucas: 好多樹. Luna: 好多樹. Lucas: 好綠. Luna: 好綠. Lucas: You know, describing trees is a great way to practice adjectives and measure words. Luna: Yeah, and it makes me want to go for a walk in the park. Lucas: Same here. And speaking of walks, if you're enjoying these episodes and want to support the show, you can help us keep going ad-free. Luna: Yeah, listener support is what keeps Fexingo running. Luna: Let's practice one more time. How do you say 'very big tree'? Lucas: 好大棵樹. Luna: And 'very tall'? Lucas: 好高. Luna: And 'many trees'? Lucas: 好多樹. Luna: And 'very green'? Lucas: 好綠. Luna: Perfect. I feel ready to describe trees in Cantonese now. Lucas: That's the goal. Keep practicing these phrases, and next time you're at a park, try saying them out loud.
