- 0:05Speaker 2: You know what they say.
- 0:06Speaker 1: He taught me, keep your friends close, but your enemies close.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Time to check in on the team down south.
- 0:14Speaker 2: They have done absolutely nothing wrong, but they're blue.
- 0:17Speaker 1: This is the Red and Blue on the Sean O'Connell

- 0:53Speaker 1: as well. But tires at the Murdoch Ford... Buy three,
- 0:58Speaker 1: get one free. Or maybe just buy three if you
- 1:01Speaker 1: have a three-wheeled vehicle like Jerem Jordan does. I'm pretty
- 1:04Speaker 1: sure he drives a three-wheeled, one of those Can-Am Spider things.
- 1:07Speaker 1: He joins us now to talk a little BYU. Jerem Jordan, welcome.
- 1:10Speaker 1: How are you, sir?
- 1:11Speaker 3: I was thinking I would be on the motorcycle and
- 1:14Speaker 3: you'd be in like the little like car chair thing
- 1:17Speaker 3: on the side. Like you're rolling through downtown Salt Lake.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:20Speaker 1: That'd be cool. That'd be awesome.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I've never been in one of those.
- 1:24Speaker 1: As long as we have matching goggles, it'd be cool.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Like aviators and the like leather old school
- 1:30Speaker 2: kind of helmet thing. Yeah. I can see that we're
- 1:33Speaker 2: rolling into like a mammoth game or something.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Let's go. Not too long before we get back to
- 1:38Speaker 1: the mammoth, by the way, it'll be fun.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Yeah, dude.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Less than two weeks now.
- 1:43Speaker 3: I love every Ryan Smith video, by the way, of
- 1:45Speaker 3: the renovated delt center. I'm like picking apart every frame layer.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my gosh, it looks so good.
- 1:50Speaker 1: It's so cool. The ice is down. Like they had
- 1:53Speaker 1: that thing, right? That they had that thing gutted like
- 1:55Speaker 1: a month ago. Now they're ready to play hockey. It's wild.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Let's go. Let's play that old timey hockey.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And that SNL sketch one stock talked about with, uh,
- 2:05Speaker 3: can't remember which rapper, but it was really fun.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Before we get into talking about the 2026 BYU Cougars,
- 2:11Speaker 1: you and I are the same age, right? For you
- 2:14Speaker 1: and for your experience as a BYU fan, follower, supporter,
- 2:19Speaker 1: media member, whatever, what is the program defining victory for
- 2:24Speaker 1: Utah football, excuse me, for BYU football?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Speaker 2 I'll take for Utah football.
- 2:29Speaker 3: What for BYU program defining, you're saying like the best
- 2:33Speaker 3: win ever, essentially program defining from BYU.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Speaker 0 But, but for you, right? Because it's a
- 2:38Speaker 1: national championship victory. Like you, you, you don't know you
- 2:42Speaker 1: weren't there. You didn't have a memory of 1984.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Speaker 2 My.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Parents went to the game and I was one and
- 2:46Speaker 3: they didn't take me. I could have said I was there,
- 2:48Speaker 3: but they.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Left me at my aunt and uncle's house. I'm serious.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'm mad about it to this day. I would have
- 2:54Speaker 2: been a nuisance to it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: You wouldn't have, you wouldn't have remembered anyway.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Right. Yeah.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I'm talking about like, like for you watching whatever happened
- 3:03Speaker 1: at BYU football and saying like, wow, that's who we
- 3:05Speaker 1: are right there.
- 3:07Speaker 3: That's a good question because there's sort of layers to
- 3:10Speaker 3: this with the modern era and more recently, and obviously,
- 3:14Speaker 3: you know, year four in the a big 12, you know,
- 3:18Speaker 3: is it a, is it like ending the streak against Utah?
- 3:20Speaker 3: That was a big moment for you. I didn't 21
- 3:22Speaker 3: the day after they got the big COVID invite. That
- 3:24Speaker 3: feels like a big one of like, all right, we're
- 3:26Speaker 3: here to play.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I buy also think about like 2009 beating Oklahoma and
- 3:32Speaker 3: Jerry's world on ABC and the whole country seeing Max Hall.
- 3:36Speaker 2: And Dennis Pitt and those guys get that win. There's
- 3:39Speaker 2: been a bunch of good ones. I'm hoping that it's
- 3:41Speaker 2: Notre Dame this year. Like that's the one I hope
- 3:43Speaker 2: it is.
- 3:43Speaker 1: That would be a really big one That would be a.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Huge one, given how good Notre Dame is and where
- 3:48Speaker 3: BYU is. I mean, this is, this is assuming BYU
- 3:51Speaker 3: takes care of business, Notre Dame.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Well, they don't play anybody before they play BYU is
- 3:56Speaker 2: this could be, you know, one of the biggest matchups ever.
- 3:58Speaker 3: There've never been a top 10 versus top 10 game
- 4:01Speaker 3: in Provo.
- 4:02Speaker 2: That's never happened. It's only happened once on the road.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It was last year at Texas tech. BYU didn't play well.
- 4:07Speaker 2: So there's an opportunity here. So I I'd probably say
- 4:09Speaker 2: 21 beating Utah.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And kind of what that meant in terms of the
- 4:14Speaker 3: trajectory of like, oh, we got the big 12 invite, like.
- 4:17Speaker 2: We're on equal footing now and the streak ends. That was,
- 4:19Speaker 2: that was a big moment. Certainly for BYU.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Okay. I think that one would appear on a lot
- 4:23Speaker 1: of BYU fans list. Now, now let's talk about the
- 4:26Speaker 1: now number nine ranked 2026 BYU Cougars. Is there any
- 4:32Speaker 1: kind of imposter syndrome lingering for BYU in this fan base?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Because even a couple of weeks ago, I talked to
- 4:39Speaker 1: a guy who he's a professor at BYU. And when
- 4:43Speaker 1: the It was like 13 at the time. He's like,
- 4:44Speaker 1: are we really the 13th best team in the country?
- 4:47Speaker 1: And I was like, dude, BYU is really good this year.
- 4:49Speaker 1: We don't know because the level of competition, while it's
- 4:54Speaker 1: been better for BYU than it has for some other
- 4:56Speaker 1: big 12 teams, including Utah, you've yet to face the
- 4:59Speaker 1: toughest test, certainly. But is this a top 10 team
- 5:03Speaker 1: in your mind and in the mind of the collective
- 5:06Speaker 1: BYU consciousness?
- 5:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I think they are based on who they were
- 5:11Speaker 3: at the end of the season last year, how many
- 5:13Speaker 3: people they returned and then how they've looked when the
- 5:15Speaker 3: starters are in. I don't think we need to worry about, well,
- 5:18Speaker 3: how the threes looked in the fourth quarter against CSU
- 5:21Speaker 3: is third string. Like it just doesn't it's whatever the
- 5:24Speaker 3: pollsters didn't care. So why should we, I know fans
- 5:27Speaker 3: are really in a prosperity moment here.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I'm like, it's going to be all right, boys and girls.
- 5:34Speaker 2: It's going to be okay.
- 5:35Speaker 3: Yeah, certainly they'll have a chance to prove it, but
- 5:38Speaker 3: when the ones are in, you always looked really good and,
- 5:43Speaker 3: and they'll have a chance to prove it here in
- 5:44Speaker 3: the next couple of weeks with a TCU, Iowa state,
- 5:48Speaker 3: you certainly expect to be ready to win those games,
- 5:49Speaker 3: but you know, be always tuned for and for with
- 5:51Speaker 3: historically have one there in 20 years, but it's time
- 5:54Speaker 3: to time to change that. And then I would say
- 5:58Speaker 3: it's looked a little better than we.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Thought, but they don't seem You got to show up.
- 6:02Speaker 2: So the BYU wins those and they're.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Five and on, they play six, no Notre Dame. That's
- 6:06Speaker 3: a collision course for an opportunity there. Now I'm not
- 6:08Speaker 3: convinced the BYU needs to win the game to make.
- 6:11Speaker 2: The playoff per se, but if they show well, they
- 6:14Speaker 2: compete really well. And then they get to the big
- 6:16Speaker 2: 12 title game and you know, they win that they're going.
- 6:20Speaker 3: To be in because power conference champs get auto bids.
- 6:23Speaker 3: But also if If BYU competes well with Notre Dame,
- 6:25Speaker 3: let's say they have one regular season loss. I don't
- 6:27Speaker 3: know where it comes, but the chances are high that
- 6:30Speaker 3: BYU is going to lose in the regular season at
- 6:31Speaker 3: least once.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Come on. You know, maybe twice. I would kind of
- 6:34Speaker 2: one and a half kind of the line there for
- 6:36Speaker 2: how good this team is right now, in my opinion,
- 6:38Speaker 2: then you go to the big total title game, you
- 6:40Speaker 2: compete well, and it's tight. You've got a way better
- 6:43Speaker 2: chance to be an at-large than you had the last
- 6:44Speaker 2: two years, because you've built up some credibility over now,
- 6:48Speaker 2: three years going into the end of this year. And
- 6:50Speaker 2: you will have competed with Notre Dame.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Who probably is going to run the table in the
- 6:53Speaker 3: regular season. 11 and one, they'll be in the playoff.
- 6:56Speaker 3: You just have more good data points than BYU had
- 6:58Speaker 3: last year, even though they were 11 and one in
- 7:00Speaker 3: the regular season. So I do believe they are a
- 7:03Speaker 3: top 10 worthy team right now. And I'm excited to
- 7:06Speaker 3: watch them compete every week because they are, they are,
- 7:09Speaker 3: they know they're good, but they're not, they're not a
- 7:12Speaker 3: team that is, you know, anything but humble because of
- 7:16Speaker 3: the two losses at Texas Tech last year. They know
- 7:19Speaker 3: they have to prove something at a higher level.
- 7:21Speaker 1: If BYU beats Notre Dame, but loses to Utah and
- 7:24Speaker 1: then misses the playoff, is that an acceptable outcome for
- 7:29Speaker 1: this team? Or would that be a failure in some
- 7:31Speaker 1: people's minds?
- 7:34Speaker 3: I don't know if I see like that scenario playing
- 7:37Speaker 3: out in terms of.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Got, they they're on the end of the playoff probably. Right.
- 7:45Speaker 3: If let's say that plays out, they go 11, one,
- 7:48Speaker 3: they beat Notre Dame. They lose to Utah. They're probably
- 7:50Speaker 3: rematching with Utah on the pixel side of it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: And then if, you know, if they win that they're in,
- 7:55Speaker 2: if they lose that and it's competitive, like how were
- 7:58Speaker 2: those margins?
- 7:58Speaker 3: We learned that last year, like margins of management BYU
- 8:01Speaker 3: was 12, no against everybody not named Texas tech.
- 8:04Speaker 2: So that'd be interesting.
- 8:05Speaker 3: But I think in Notre Dame, when would carry a
- 8:08Speaker 3: lot with the committee. So it's a huge opportunity. I'd
- 8:13Speaker 3: said it before with you and others, like this was
- 8:15Speaker 3: literally the best realistic possible scenario was like that BYU
- 8:18Speaker 3: could somehow get Notre Dame trouble. Like, are you kidding
- 8:22Speaker 3: me next year?
- 8:23Speaker 2: BYU hosts, Texas tech and they play at Notre Dame.
- 8:26Speaker 2: So that's good. It's going to be gnarly.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Too.
- 8:35Speaker 1: He looked like the returning offensive player of
- 8:40Speaker 1: the year in the big 12 conference. I don't expect
- 8:42Speaker 1: his stat line to look like this. Once you get
- 8:45Speaker 1: into big 12 play in earnest, I don't expect it
- 8:47Speaker 1: to be almost 200 yards every single game or 11
- 8:50Speaker 1: plus yards per carry. But it felt like this was,
- 8:54Speaker 1: you know, the game that reminded everyone exactly what that
- 8:58Speaker 1: guy is.
- 9:00Speaker 2: That's what they needed in that game. Right. Against Arizona,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you know, bear Bachmeier did a good job through the air.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That's what I think BYU is pretty chameleon in a
- 9:07Speaker 2: good way. Like what does this game require? And it
- 9:10Speaker 2: was a dominant run game. Barry Bachmeier didn't throw a
- 9:13Speaker 2: touchdown pass. Could he have thrown five if they knew that?
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yes, but it was LG on the ground and journey
- 9:18Speaker 3: Tonga came in the third or fourth string guy. And
- 9:25Speaker 3: he's been a revelation as well.
- 9:27Speaker 2: And in kind of those reps where they know BYU
- 9:30Speaker 2: is going to run and he still had success when
- 9:31Speaker 2: they were 38, seven, you know, late in the third
- 9:34Speaker 2: or whatever. So LJ is the real deal, man. Like
- 9:36Speaker 2: he's the top five running back in college football. I
- 9:38Speaker 2: can see an argument for the best college. Running back
- 9:41Speaker 2: right now.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Like that BYU O-line is really good. Pocky Finau has
- 9:44Speaker 3: been tremendous at left tackle. And then BYU's, you.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Know, Kyle Svarchuk was out for that game. They're hoping
- 9:51Speaker 2: to have him back against TCU. But Trevin Osler stepped in,
- 9:54Speaker 2: did a nice job.
- 9:55Speaker 3: He's got good tight ends and receivers that blocked downfield.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I think that's been a strength of BYU kind of
- 10:00Speaker 3: skill positions. There's they, they give a crap in the
- 10:03Speaker 3: run game, right? They're engaged downfield.
- 10:05Speaker 2: You saw three dudes running with LJ on that like
- 10:08Speaker 2: 56 yarder on the second play from scrimmage or was
- 10:11Speaker 2: it 65? Like that was, that was crazy.
- 10:13Speaker 3: So yeah, that's what BYU is built on when they
- 10:15Speaker 3: play action deep and legend Glasgow has been awesome. And yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 3: it's fun to see this BYU team more explosive than
- 10:21Speaker 3: last year.
- 10:23Speaker 1: They have not been running bear Bachmeier very much. Bear
- 10:26Speaker 1: Bachmeier is a pocket passer. Is this indicative these first
- 10:30Speaker 1: three games indicative of what you think expect the game
- 10:33Speaker 1: plan to be with him and his legs for the
- 10:36Speaker 1: course of the season? Or are they just kind of
- 10:38Speaker 1: like keeping that in the back pocket? Because we know
- 10:42Speaker 1: what it looks like when he decides to get loose
- 10:45Speaker 1: and we know he's capable of producing big numbers with
- 10:48Speaker 1: his legs and timely numbers, maybe more importantly with his legs,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but he kind of hasn't had to, and they haven't
- 10:55Speaker 1: designed that into the offense yet.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I think it's in the bag. It's sitting there if
- 11:00Speaker 3: they need it. He's still five yards of carry with sacks,
- 11:03Speaker 3: even though he's only been sacked twice.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think they need it, which is great.
- 11:07Speaker 2: And it's with out Sione Moore, who's probably out till
- 11:09Speaker 2: mid to late October at the earliest. So that's been
- 11:12Speaker 2: nice because you know that Bear is going to be
- 11:14Speaker 2: effective with his legs. He did have a rushing touchdown
- 11:17Speaker 2: in each of the first two games. BYU's been money
- 11:20Speaker 2: in the red zone, Sean. They had one meal down
- 11:23Speaker 2: against Arizona, which shouldn't really count. Then they threw a
- 11:26Speaker 2: pick last week. Other scoring touchdowns.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Like they scored on their first 13 red zone possessions touchdowns.
- 11:34Speaker 3: So that's, that's domination, which is great. They'll, they'll use
- 11:38Speaker 3: bear when they need it in the run game. They
- 11:40Speaker 3: just have so many options this year. It's like offensively,
- 11:42Speaker 3: I feel like this team is even better than we
- 11:45Speaker 3: thought it would be, which is great.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And no one's talked about, Oh, they missed chase and Parker. Like,
- 11:50Speaker 2: which is crazy. Those are two good players. You always
- 11:52Speaker 2: been really explosive all over the place.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I'm glad you mentioned the, uh, the kneel down against Arizona.
- 11:58Speaker 1: There were a small contingent, at least the BYU fans
- 12:02Speaker 1: on social media who were like, what are we doing?
- 12:05Speaker 1: You got style points matter and you got to run
- 12:07Speaker 1: this thing up. And we talked about this a little bit,
- 12:10Speaker 1: Brent Brennan and Kalani are friends. And so they're not
- 12:13Speaker 1: going to do that. Um, but like, this is this
- 12:17Speaker 1: is who Kalani Satake is, right? Is, is there, is
- 12:21Speaker 1: there a real thought that that could potentially be detrimental
- 12:25Speaker 1: to this team in any way? He's not going to
- 12:27Speaker 1: do it against Arizona. He's also not going to do
- 12:29Speaker 1: it against Colorado state. Like he's just, it's just not
- 12:31Speaker 1: that he's not going to Dan Lanning his way against
- 12:35Speaker 1: Portland state throwing passes with 30 seconds left when you're
- 12:38Speaker 1: already up 77, you know, like, is there a real
- 12:42Speaker 1: thought that this could be to the detriment of BYU
- 12:46Speaker 1: in any way?
- 12:47Speaker 3: I don't think so because the AP poll has not
- 12:50Speaker 3: shown that, you know, BYU climbed four after the Arizona
- 12:53Speaker 3: win BYU climbed, uh, you know, two last week. Some
- 12:57Speaker 3: of that is product of who's what's happening in front
- 12:59Speaker 3: of you, but it's also respect for who you are.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Which kind of eliminates any of that, you know, statistically
- 13:08Speaker 2: where you can go, Oh, be always 22nd game control.
- 13:10Speaker 2: They were 53rd. And then last week they became 22nd
- 13:12Speaker 2: after the CSU game.
- 13:13Speaker 3: So if you're looking at the actual numbers, people know,
- 13:16Speaker 3: but that playoff committee is going to dig in.
- 13:18Speaker 2: They're going to know like, Nope, they nailed it out
- 13:20Speaker 2: in these games or whatever. It's also, we're going to
- 13:22Speaker 2: have so many more data points. So I I don't
- 13:24Speaker 2: think so.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Also, Kalani has said a couple of things that make
- 13:27Speaker 3: sense to me with this. One is, he said, I'm
- 13:29Speaker 3: not going to jeopardize my starters.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Like, why would I?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Bear and LJ and these guys, they're healthy. There's some
- 13:35Speaker 3: guys that are a little banged up. So that makes
- 13:38Speaker 3: sense to me. And then the other is Kalani knows
- 13:41Speaker 3: where he is. He's at BYU where they are going
- 13:43Speaker 3: to do things a little differently. And if people don't
- 13:47Speaker 3: understand that he and BYU, I don't think care. Like
- 13:50Speaker 3: he is a certain kind of person who is fully
- 13:52Speaker 3: aligned with what the school is. And this actually aligns
- 13:55Speaker 3: with the bigger mission.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So I'm, I'm on board. It doesn't affect BYU in
- 13:59Speaker 2: the polls. It's not going to affect BYU with the
- 14:01Speaker 2: college football playoff committee because they know ball.
- 14:04Speaker 3: They're not just looking at a score and sending an
- 14:07Speaker 3: email to vote in a poll or something like.
- 14:09Speaker 2: It's, I think Kalani gets it.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Like there's not a soul on earth that doesn't respect
- 14:16Speaker 3: that man.
- 14:18Speaker 1: Jerem Jordan here on red and blue on the Sean
- 14:21Speaker 1: O'Connell show. This segment is brought to you by friends
- 14:23Speaker 1: at Murdoch Ford, Santa Quinn. All right, so this BYU
- 14:29Speaker 1: football team heads into Big 12 conference play now in earnest.
- 14:33Speaker 1: They already have had one Big 12 game, which gives
- 14:35Speaker 1: them one more than most teams in the conference. On
- 14:38Speaker 1: the road at TCU, this is, I think, at least
- 14:42Speaker 1: a good TCU team. I don't know if we're aware
- 14:45Speaker 1: that they're great or anything close to that TCU team
- 14:47Speaker 1: so far. They beat Grambling and Arkansas State convincingly. They
- 14:52Speaker 1: lost a close one to North Carolina for people that
- 14:54Speaker 1: don't have it in front of them. And, you know,
- 14:57Speaker 1: this is a BYU team that, like you said, looks
- 15:02Speaker 1: really good and is firing on all cylinders now. So
- 15:05Speaker 1: the next time out will be in a couple of
- 15:09Speaker 1: weeks for BYU. Is TCU a threat?
- 15:14Speaker 2: I think everybody in the league is. I don't think anybody's.
- 15:18Speaker 3: So good they can just chill. So TCU is interesting because, yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 3: they have dominated the last two weeks. They've been out
- 15:24Speaker 3: without Jordan Dwyer, their top receiver. He comes back this week,
- 15:27Speaker 3: so that's notable. Jaden Craig's played much better. Obviously, the
- 15:31Speaker 3: competition was worse last two weeks. He did not play
- 15:33Speaker 3: well in the rain in Dublin against UNC. Shout out
- 15:36Speaker 3: to Bill Belichick's sweatshirt. But Ed Small has looked good
- 15:40Speaker 3: at receiver. Jeremy Payne has looked good at running back.
- 15:44Speaker 2: They're a threat. BYU needs to show up.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And then you just kind of look at history, which
- 15:47Speaker 3: sometimes has nothing to do with the game. But BYU's
- 15:49Speaker 3: only won twice there, two and four. Haven't won since
- 15:52Speaker 3: 06 there. Haven't played a ton of games. got punked
- 15:54Speaker 3: a couple of years ago in 23 by 33 points.
- 15:57Speaker 3: But BYU did the punking last year by 31. So yeah,
- 15:59Speaker 3: this is, this is an important game next week. BYU
- 16:04Speaker 3: should get a little healthier and then certainly be motivated
- 16:07Speaker 3: to play.
- 16:08Speaker 2: TCU in game two. And when the stakes are so
- 16:11Speaker 2: high and the margins are so thin, Like BYU wants
- 16:14Speaker 2: to be in the big 12 title game, make the
- 16:15Speaker 2: college football playoff. They are dialed in.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Like they are not taking anything for granted or nothing's easy.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Like it's just, it's a team that's really focused and
- 16:23Speaker 3: I'm excited to watch every single snap, including a.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Big game next week. It's almost a bummer that BYU
- 16:29Speaker 2: is not playing this week. Like they're, they're just so
- 16:32Speaker 2: focused and dialed in that it's fun to watch them play.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I'm going to miss them. Not watching. I'm not playing
- 16:36Speaker 2: this week, but yeah, we have six ranked on ranked
- 16:39Speaker 2: matchups this week. Like I, I, I'm excited for this weekend.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I actually, if I'm BYU, I, I hate that this
- 16:46Speaker 1: is where my bi-week fell. And I know that coaches don't,
- 16:49Speaker 1: they don't complain about schedules because you just take what
- 16:52Speaker 1: you get. But I, I hate that I'm having a
- 16:55Speaker 1: bi-week after three very easily won games effectively. And, and
- 17:00Speaker 1: it interrupts a little bit momentum, but then it also
- 17:03Speaker 1: sets you up for just this crazy stretch run for
- 17:06Speaker 1: the rest of the season.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be nine weeks of brutality. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 2: next year is going to be nice where they kind
- 17:14Speaker 2: of move the schedule up into August, and then you
- 17:16Speaker 2: have two bye weeks. I think that's great.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Kind of more NFL-ish where it's like, all right, we
- 17:20Speaker 3: know that this is tough physically.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Let's get you guys as healthy as possible. So, yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 2: it's going to be fun, man. I'm stoked to watch it.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I'm stoked to watch the Big 12 games this weekend.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Like the Oklahoma State-West Virginia game.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Is like, wait, which one of you is actually– more
- 17:34Speaker 2: legit than the.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Other end in the big 12. There's some interesting games.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Reece Davis has been, he's had a cool comment where
- 17:41Speaker 3: he didn't talk about.
- 17:42Speaker 2: The depth of the league. He said, I think it's wide.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I think that's an accurate description kind of visually like,
- 17:47Speaker 3: are there a bunch of top end teams? There's three
- 17:49Speaker 3: in the top 15 right now. Like I think, yes,
- 17:51Speaker 3: let's hope there's two playoff teams. I think that'd be great.
- 17:55Speaker 3: But yeah, it's, it's a league that there's not a
- 17:58Speaker 3: ton of just gimme's in the league, which is, which
- 18:00Speaker 3: is kind of nice.
- 18:02Speaker 1: We had a great Houston versus Texas tech Friday night game.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm sure you watched at least as much as you could.
- 18:08Speaker 1: It came down to literally the final inches Wegman trying
- 18:13Speaker 1: to get in. Did we learn anything important about both teams?
- 18:17Speaker 2: Houston's really good too. That Texas tech is still figuring
- 18:21Speaker 2: out how to win, even though their defense is not as.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Dominant as it was last year. And they throw the pick,
- 18:26Speaker 3: they go down, you know, what are they trying to run?
- 18:29Speaker 3: We'll hand it out of town.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Like, I don't understand though. I understand why they brought
- 18:33Speaker 2: in stores. B that didn't work out.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Hammond's the guy he said, he said some comments like, yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 3: I thought that was weird. they throw Castellanos in on
- 18:41Speaker 3: the first point, he throws a pick.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I'm like, are you guys trying to get well, having
- 18:44Speaker 2: to transfer? Like, I don't understand how they're kind of
- 18:47Speaker 2: handling will, where they think they can just do better.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I don't, I don't get it. I don't know, but that's,
- 18:52Speaker 2: that's good. I think they're the third best team in
- 18:55Speaker 2: the league right now.
- 18:56Speaker 3: And I still think They they're deserving of like a
- 18:58Speaker 3: top 15, top 20 ranking.
- 19:00Speaker 2: There's three good teams in the league. Like they stick out.
- 19:02Speaker 2: It's going to be a fun race to see which
- 19:04Speaker 2: to actually make it to Arlington with the BYU time
- 19:07Speaker 2: and Texas tech. So they, yeah, tech tech offended. It's
- 19:11Speaker 2: them against the world. Well, yeah. When you handle swords
- 19:13Speaker 2: being that way, it's going to be like that. And
- 19:16Speaker 2: they don't, they don't really play any, but they don't
- 19:18Speaker 2: play a tough schedule. So I think tech's got a
- 19:20Speaker 2: good chance to be in Arlington. but I would love
- 19:23Speaker 2: for BYU and Utah to be stuck too. I think
- 19:25Speaker 2: that would be amazing.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Speaker 0 7th, no sacks for BYU against Colorado state.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Is that okay? Speaker 4 7th, I think so.
- 19:33Speaker 3: You know, you love in a game where you're up big,
- 19:35Speaker 3: that you rack up a couple, but again, the starters
- 19:38Speaker 3: weren't there much and they were kind of making Haseeni
- 19:42Speaker 3: beat them through the air and then Haseeni.
- 19:44Speaker 2: And Sam string and the backups in and you know,
- 19:46Speaker 2: he's scrambling a little bit. And so, yeah, it did.
- 19:49Speaker 3: You'd love a few, but Kelly ping has said, sacks
- 19:52Speaker 3: might be the most overrated defensive statistic in his opinion yet.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Keanu ton of Boston in Paul camp said, Hey, we
- 19:58Speaker 3: want 50 sacks.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Like, dude, that would be awesome. I love that you
- 20:02Speaker 2: said 50, but no.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I asked that question because, you know, I'm nitpicking on
- 20:10Speaker 1: everything we've seen from Utah so far. And it's like,
- 20:12Speaker 1: you know, you want, you want that. You want to
- 20:15Speaker 1: be able to, to paint a complete picture. I think
- 20:18Speaker 1: with BYU, it's pretty clear. They're going to be able
- 20:20Speaker 1: to run the ball effectively. They're going to be able
- 20:21Speaker 1: to pass the ball effectively.
- 20:23Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I liked the DeVries kid in the return game. I
- 20:26Speaker 1: think that's a, that's kind of a fun revelation. If
- 20:29Speaker 1: you're a BYU fan and I'm looking at this, the
- 20:32Speaker 1: defense and I'm saying, all right, yeah, you got all these,
- 20:34Speaker 1: Fast guys running around. Oh, there's something. I can say, like, Akana,
- 20:38Speaker 1: why didn't you have another two and a half sacks?
- 20:40Speaker 1: What's going on here? It just feels like a weird
- 20:44Speaker 1: goose egg in a game that was otherwise dominant for BYU.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's all good.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Like, frankly, it's just like, let's just be as healthy
- 20:53Speaker 3: as possible and move along with our lives. Like, BYU
- 20:56Speaker 3: was minus one in margin. You know, CSU, they came
- 21:00Speaker 3: in as the number one takeaway team in the country.
- 21:01Speaker 3: They got two. One pick from Bear, one pick from
- 21:04Speaker 3: Jason Borgan, a tip.
- 21:06Speaker 2: So, it's all good, man. You know, if it was minus.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Three or four, then maybe it would have been a game, but...
- 21:12Speaker 3: I can turn it over that much typically. So yeah, we're,
- 21:15Speaker 3: we're picking nets for sure. As Bill Simmons says to
- 21:19Speaker 3: see what can they do better? We even talked about
- 21:21Speaker 3: that today on BYU sports nation. It's like things are
- 21:23Speaker 3: going pretty great.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 21:25Speaker 1: All right. So with a no BYU game to watch
- 21:29Speaker 1: to work this weekend, you mentioned it's a great college
- 21:31Speaker 1: football slate. What is the, what is the game plan
- 21:34Speaker 1: for Jerem Jordan on Saturday?
- 21:37Speaker 3: Well, first off, my daughter has a Utah Kendrick volleyball
- 21:41Speaker 3: playoff game. I am the coach, and so that's the
- 21:43Speaker 3: first order of business. The second is my 8-year-old son
- 21:46Speaker 3: has a tackle football game in the middle of the day.
- 21:48Speaker 2: That is the second order of business.
- 21:50Speaker 3: And then there are other matchups of interest. And if
- 21:54Speaker 3: you're BYU and, frankly, Utah... you're keeping an eye on
- 21:57Speaker 3: a couple of games where you could either get leaped
- 22:00Speaker 3: or move up a little bit. You know, one of
- 22:03Speaker 3: those is like, can, if LSU loses, they get out
- 22:07Speaker 3: to a and M that's the battle of.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Teams that lost last week. Does LSU slide out of
- 22:11Speaker 2: the way? Does Utah move up? Does, does be right.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Kind of hold its spot.
- 22:14Speaker 3: If LSU beats Texas a and M LSU might pass BYU, USC,
- 22:18Speaker 3: Oregon's interesting as well. USC could move up only like
- 22:21Speaker 3: kind of four and O team in the mix who
- 22:22Speaker 3: played week zero that's ranked like that.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I think so. Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 3: You keep an eye on a few of these games
- 22:27Speaker 3: and then just from an entertainment value, just nice relaxing day,
- 22:30Speaker 3: you know, maybe.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Do the yard work then maybe Sunday. I'm not sure,
- 22:33Speaker 2: but it's, it's nice to have a bi-week. I don't
- 22:36Speaker 2: have another game. I'm calling Sean. I call volleyball and
- 22:38Speaker 2: sometimes soccer. I don't have any of those this week.
- 22:41Speaker 2: So it's, it's a night, you know, it's a bi-week
- 22:43Speaker 2: I'm enjoying it. Probably should have gone out of town somewhere,
- 22:45Speaker 2: but we got, we.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Got kids sporting events, man. Plus I got to get
- 22:49Speaker 3: that sidecar from somebody that roll around in this weekend,
- 22:52Speaker 3: you know, the Canyon or something.
- 22:55Speaker 1: We're going to go take it in the leaves up
- 22:57Speaker 1: the canyons, a little alpine loop maybe?
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I do miss starting canyon in the fall, going
- 23:04Speaker 2: up for like a BYU-Utah State game and just how
- 23:07Speaker 2: pretty the leaves were there. But Utah's awesome, man. I
- 23:10Speaker 2: love living here. It's so pretty.
- 23:12Speaker 1: 31-7 victory for your Seahawks over the Cardinals. And any
- 23:18Speaker 1: significant takeaways from that for you?
- 23:21Speaker 3: We are not the chargers. That's what I already knew,
- 23:24Speaker 3: but yeah. Holy crap. The chargers stink. And the Raiders
- 23:27Speaker 3: are two and oh, and yeah, the Rams are back.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Bummer with Jackson dart last night, by the way, hilarious
- 23:34Speaker 3: memes with Caleb Williams and the bears. You never like
- 23:37Speaker 3: to see a guy get injured, but pretty funny commentary
- 23:40Speaker 3: on that video. All of Paul Pierce, which years later,
- 23:43Speaker 3: he said he had to go to the bathroom.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Not, not an injury, which is like, wait, what? You
- 23:47Speaker 2: just ruined one of the greatest moments of all time. Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 2: So you're actually looking good. And it's the West is
- 23:52Speaker 2: going to.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Be as brutal as we thought, but, and Niners looks great.
- 23:55Speaker 3: I mean, man, the dolphins are bad, but when the
- 23:59Speaker 3: Niners are healthy, scary, like as scary or scarier than
- 24:02Speaker 3: the Rams. Cause right now it's like what Sam Darnold's
- 24:05Speaker 3: going to come back next week, apparently.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Or this week, sorry, against the commanders. No, Jane Daniels.
- 24:11Speaker 2: So it shouldn't be as difficult. So We'll see, man.
- 24:13Speaker 2: It's a, the NFL and full swing college football. I'm
- 24:16Speaker 2: loving my life. My, my happiness levels at like a thousand.
- 24:19Speaker 2: So let's go.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Well, let's keep it there. Jerem, always appreciate your time.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Thanks for hopping on again today.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Thanks, Sean.
