- 0:08years of hip hop with a new series. My thoughts on the new projects
- 0:13from Lloyd Banks and Swiss Beats, and Jack Harlowe says he's the hardest white
- 0:21boy since eminem. I'm gonna tell you right now the pause gods want to
- 0:28talk to you? Or do I have to say pause for that? Man?
- 0:34Start to show. Welcome to hip Hop Now Podcast. If you're from

- 1:21be my guests, the link is in the description of this episode. Really
- 1:27quick. If you checked out my last episode, it was actually a bonus
- 1:33episode that I posted on my YouTube channel hip Hop Now as well. As
- 1:38Hip Hop Now podcast audio stream, which is available wherever you get your podcasts,
- 1:44and it was all about AI, but instead of rehashing what we already
- 1:51know about AI, right, Kanye got a bunch of AI records now,
- 1:53not Kanye, but AI, Kanye and now Alan obviously neither Okay, Artificial
- 2:00Intelligence and Drake and jay Z Biggie Pop like if the list just goes on
- 2:07and on, AI is going crazy. Well, my podcast talks a little
- 2:14bit about that, but really focuses on indie rap because now with technology like
- 2:22AI, you can now become a rapper, not really, but but you
- 2:28can be your voice. Right, So check that out. The link is
- 2:32in the description of this episode. It probably also flashes on a video at
- 2:37some point and it I'll post it at the very end of this video as
- 2:40well, so you can check that out and listen to it and feel free
- 2:45to leave your comments wherever you may absorb my dope hip Hop content Now fig
- 2:52shout out to hip Hop dx dot com, All hip Hop dot com,
- 2:55The Source magazine dot com, and a couple of places where I'm getting some
- 3:00of these stories from. Let's get ready to the business. So Jack Harlow
- 3:07says, he is the hardest white boy since Eminem. I don't know why
- 3:15he would say that, especially say that in that way, but I think
- 3:23it has nothing to do with what you're thinking about. Let's read and see
- 3:30what he said. This article comes from Hip Hop dx dot com, so
- 3:34go check it out. Says Jack Harlow claims he's the hardest white boy since
- 3:38Eminem. Now let's see. The new mixtape, which the Louisville rapper announced
- 3:46on Wednesday and dropped on Friday, includes a song called they Don't Love It,
- 3:51where Harlow argues to be as lyrically talented as Slim Shady himself. Here's
- 3:58some of the lyrics for y'all. I'm gonna read the whole article. Go
- 4:00check it out for yourself. Your boys striving to be the most dominant ever,
- 4:05the hardest white boy since the one who rapped about vomit and sweaters.
- 4:11Okay, and hold the comments, because I promise you I'm I'm honestly better
- 4:17than whoever it came to your head. Right then. They ain't cut from
- 4:21the same thread like him. They don't study doing work to get ahead like
- 4:27him. They don't toss and turn into f and bed like him. Okay,
- 4:34so I haven't heard this record, so me reading it probably doesn't do
- 4:40it any justice, or maybe it does. I haven't heard it, but
- 4:45I'm just going to go out on a LMB. They called me Vegas for
- 4:46a reason. I'm gonna take a back safe than I've heard Jack Harlowe.
- 4:53Before his last album, there were singles, There were songs I liked,
- 4:58but I think I like them because you're it was kind of like a groove,
- 5:00you know, it was a groove. But I didn't like the album,
- 5:04and I definitely didn't become a fan of his. I don't dislike his
- 5:09music, but he didn't do enough for me to anticipate any new music.
- 5:13So he had a new album out obviously. Now I'm curious since he said
- 5:15this, and I definitely want to hear that song. Because you're gonna say
- 5:20something like that, you better back it up. Now, Why would he
- 5:25say that? Will who checking for Jack Harlow? This new generation or due
- 5:32respect? They kind of like you when you're hot in the very beginning.
- 5:38They like his singles, but when you start dropping follow ups, it don't
- 5:41matter if it's hot or not. Bars they will ignore your new stuff,
- 5:49whereas us old heads. Right, if we like something, we might check
- 5:54for you again, like, Yo, what do he got that's new?
- 5:58But most of us either don't know you or don't really care for you.
- 6:02Now. Me, I like certain joints that didn't like others, so I'm
- 6:05more willing to check it out just to see. But I can tell you
- 6:11right now, he is nowhere near being the hardest, the best, whatever
- 6:17way you want to characterize it, white boy, since Eminem not even close.
- 6:24You know why because most people who respect Eminem lyrically before the albums or
- 6:29whatever, whenever you first heard them. But whoever respects them lyrically knows the
- 6:34impression you have to make in order for people to even believe what you're saying.
- 6:41And I think sometimes people take the whole speak it into existence. WHOA,
- 6:46you could speaking ass whooping into existence also, but you don't want that,
- 6:50right. I don't know how that connects, but it just sounds good.
- 6:55But I'm just saying that Eminem's skill level where he comes from as an
- 7:02MC, he's a battle rapper first, growing up in a time where bars
- 7:11matter. See Jack Harlow. It's safe to be you right today in the
- 7:17lane you play in right because the level the bar has been lowered in a
- 7:25lot of ways. For people to like you, for people to say you're
- 7:28the best, people will have their preference between let's say Eminem style a rap
- 7:35in yours and say that you're better than him just because they prefer your style.
- 7:42Well, real hip hop heads know, and I'm not talking about the
- 7:46book bag Boom Bap under the Underground Cats only, I'm talking about any real
- 7:50hip hop head knows that it is when you're talking like that and you compare
- 7:57yourself to someone like that, it's about the bars. When Eminem, all
- 8:03the accolades he receives are not necessarily about the context of his music or the
- 8:09content exactly, obviously not. It's about the skill level, right because rappers
- 8:18know when you do certain things within your bars. They know what's unique,
- 8:24they know what's tough, right, Like damn he put that together that that's
- 8:28the skill level. Skill is just skill is not saying you can do you
- 8:35can rap, right, everybody rap Ai rapping, but not that. Yeah,
- 8:39but actually Ai was good. He was wrestling Peace, but he was
- 8:43better than COVID, better than Chat. But he only put out one song.
- 8:48But artificial intelligence can do that. Right, especially now the bar the
- 8:52bars getting raised. Now, you know, computers can do the software can
- 8:56do what you do. Those bars I read, they were cute, they
- 9:01were clever, but they're nowhere near impressing MCS and Eminem, whether you like
- 9:09it or not, isn't MC. You don't become a battle rapper. You
- 9:15don't become a dude who is vicious with freestyles. I don't care if he
- 9:18can't even do it anymore. History is what it is, and you can't
- 9:24rewrite it now for those who may mix this up or whatever. At no
- 9:28point in time, dude, you should or should you feel that he was
- 9:33talking about Eminem in a negative way. No, he was just they did
- 9:39a song together and it was actually was kind of dope, not on no
- 9:41bar stuff. It was just a dope record. But nevertheless, let's keep
- 9:48things in perspective. I get it now, we're all talking about you.
- 9:54Now, you're gonna get all the hits, right, hopefully I get a
- 9:58couple of hits. Subscribe right now. Your name is gonna be out there.
- 10:03But and you know how people say. You know, even if people
- 10:07even if the press is negative or people talking about your negative, it's still
- 10:11attention. It still can work out in your favor, which is true.
- 10:18But if at any point you ever want to be taken seriously as an artist,
- 10:24there's just so many white boys you're not bet at it. And I'm
- 10:30not gonna name them, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna start talking. It's
- 10:33about to be a white boy like meinlee in hip hop, and I'm kind
- 10:37of here for it because, you know what, I want to see what
- 10:41Jack Harlowe does. Maybe got some bars for y'all in the low. So
- 10:45let's let's get it. Black folks, sit back. Fifty years of hip
- 10:48hop. We're gonna watch white boys battle it out to the death. Or
- 10:52maybe not, maybe they're just ron or something like that. Audible celebrates fifty
- 10:58years of hip hop with a new series. Now. This new series includes
- 11:07Snoop Dog, Little Kim, Yasin Babe, and a couple of others.
- 11:11And essentially what it is is they're basically gonna host shows that are audio story
- 11:22storytelling, basically obviously regarding hip hop. Let me see if I could find
- 11:26a little bit of detail. Kim, this is Little Kim will offer her
- 11:33own words plus music where she will describe how she became an integral part of
- 11:39hip hop's evolution and an inspiration for female rappers. This could be pretty dope,
- 11:46now, I know, I got to start at the beginning because I'm
- 11:50not gonna sit here and assume everybody knows what audible is. I'm gonna tell
- 11:54you right now. Has nothing to do with football. Okay, that's one.
- 11:58Two. If you don't know what Audible is, Audible is an app
- 12:03in most cases, where I guess you could just call it as an app
- 12:07but software, but an app. You can get it on your phone called
- 12:11Audible where it's audio books for the most part. Right, you can go
- 12:18by you know, Can't Stop, Won't Stop the Hip Hop book, and
- 12:22you can listen to it in audio phone, so instead of reading the book,
- 12:26you can just listen to someone read it to you. And they even
- 12:31have stuff like, for example, when I wanted to try it out to
- 12:35see if I would like it, like Star Wars, right, and what
- 12:39attracted me to it, Because I'm gonna tell you all right now, I
- 12:43have a short attention span when it comes to audio books. So the fact
- 12:50that the Star Wars books has some sound design right, spaceship sounds and light
- 12:54dable sounds and all that good stuff in different voices. It kind of works.
- 12:58It keeps my tention a little bit more. But if you want a
- 13:01real example and sidebar, but connected. When I went to a vase for
- 13:07the podcast Movement Evolutions conference on the flight, I was like, I'm gonna
- 13:13listen to an audio book and I was trying to. I was like,
- 13:18I can't listen to the Star Wars joint because I ain't gonna front when they
- 13:20started talking. I'm a Star Wars fan. But when they started talking a
- 13:24little bit too much about you know, Star Wars and stuff, names of
- 13:28ships and stuff, I started drifting, you know what I'm saying. So
- 13:33I was like, Yo, I'm gonna check out a Book's a What's a
- 13:35book I always wanted to read, always heard about, but just never got
- 13:39around to either buying it or reading it. So I chose Lambreath Randy Sullivan.
- 13:46And if you know what that is, that is like before we knew
- 13:50what we knew about digging Tupac's death, this was like the source for it.
- 13:56So it's a lot in this book that's been dispas held or considered wrong
- 14:01or different theories. But when I tell you it was entertaining. It was
- 14:05so I said all that to say, when you think about this opportunity for
- 14:11rappers like for example, Y'asymbaye, his show A Dynamic Career Communications will explore
- 14:18the black star rappers brooklyn roots, faith and spirituality as well as his as
- 14:24well as his creator's inspirations. This is interesting, right because they all they
- 14:31all won't be the same, They all will come from rappers you know or
- 14:35you should know, and the content will speak to different things related to who
- 14:43they are and also probably their music careers in some way shape or for them.
- 14:46I ain't go front the little Kim one sounds interesting considering that debate.
- 14:52From time to time, people forget about Kim right shout out to the bee
- 14:56Hive. Don't act like it this before that bay Hide. I'm just saying,
- 15:01no beef will company me. But it's interesting. So let me ask
- 15:07you this. Would you guys want me to review those because I'm pretty much
- 15:15down to go through it for the sake of those that are interested. So
- 15:20if you leave the comment in the comment section and say a word, I
- 15:24at least want to know or I never listen to an audio book and I'm
- 15:26a little attempted, let me know, and if we get it popping and
- 15:31you know, we got to do a live stream and it's a nice you
- 15:35know, turnout or whatever, then I'm a highlight Audible because they're gonna need
- 15:39to sponsor and maybe we bring some things to the podcast right for you to
- 15:43try it out yourself. Who knows, maybe a discount go or a free
- 15:48audio book whatever. They kind of do that all the time. And lastly,
- 15:56so last week I decided to do not the traditional news podcast, but
- 16:06a ranking of the albums for Redman and Methems catalog. You can watch that
- 16:12video ray Hill on this YouTube channel hip Hop Now. And that was my
- 16:18way of taking a break but doing something interesting that people would want to check
- 16:22out. And you know it turn it out pretty good. It's Hoodie Vegas
- 16:25watch yourself. Okay. But in the in that time off from my weekly
- 16:33routine of news podcasts, as you know, I'm listening to new hip hop
- 16:40you know, all the time, and if you follow me on Instagram you
- 16:44can kind of stay caught up on what's out because I tend to this.
- 16:49I tend to listen to most hip hop albums for the most part that come
- 16:53out and you know, if I post that I'm playing this, I'm now
- 16:56playing or whatever, it's a good way for you to just see what's out
- 17:03and what's new. But recently, I listened to two projects this past week
- 17:07when I was on vacation, and one project was Swiss Beats project entitled hip
- 17:18Hop fifty Volume two. It's an EP. Now, if you don't know,
- 17:22there was a value one where DJ Premier produced all the tracks. This
- 17:29is a part of I believe a massive peal initiative. I believe, let's
- 17:33just make sure, let's make sure, okay, massive peal right, initiative
- 17:37to celebrate hip hop by putting out these EPs. And I'm starting to think
- 17:41that quarterly because it feels like it after these two that drop. But they're
- 17:48putting out these EPs to commemorate hip hop with new music, and they're using
- 17:52one producer to produce. I believe it's five songs every time. Let me
- 17:57just make sure, well in this case six, but to produce an EP
- 18:02five to six songs or whatever featuring a number of artists from old school artists
- 18:07and new school artists. Now, I did a review of the DJ Premier
- 18:11joint a while back, and I didn't really care for it. The best
- 18:21songs on there to me were the standouts were really for me were only two
- 18:26songs, the one with Joey Badass and the other one that featured Rhapsody and
- 18:30Remy Ma rapping right wasn't why it just wasn't as good as I anticipated.
- 18:38Well, now Swiss Beats is up next, and I'm just going to tell
- 18:41you right off the back z my impressions. I gotta keep listening. But
- 18:47the Swiss Beats EP is better than the premiere EP. It just is now,
- 18:52is it? You know? Are there no skips on EP? No?
- 18:56But there were more skips on the premiere joint for me than they were
- 19:00on here. Some of the artists featured on This Go Round nass Back.
- 19:06He was on a premier joint that should have been way better than it was.
- 19:11It wasn't. But on here it's a song called Runaway. It's actually
- 19:15better. Who else is on here? Jay Electronica is on here and it
- 19:21sounds like a Jay Electronica track, And I kind of like the fact that
- 19:23Jay Electronica is on here. You know, you don't really get the hair
- 19:26from him that much since his releases five YEO Farming's on here, Little Dirk
- 19:32is on here a buggie with the hoodie Little Wayne. But the standout track
- 19:37for me is a song called take Him Out. Its samples some lyrics from
- 19:44Onyx, right, throw your Guns in the air, whatever, and it
- 19:48features Jada Kiss, Benny the Butcher, and Scarlet Now hold On, hold
- 19:57On. Scarlet was gonna be She's gonna be one of my stories right this
- 20:07week, but I said, naw, I don't really want to devote a
- 20:08whole time to it if you don't know who scarlep is and you're saying to
- 20:12yourself, Scarlet Let, what what? She's this new female rapp out of
- 20:18the Bronx New York. I think it's the Bronx. She has this song
- 20:22that became popular. She has a couple of songs, but she has this
- 20:25one particular song that became popular on the internet. I think it's called get
- 20:30Out in New York or whatever. Now, of course, you from New
- 20:34York, you from the hood, you probably like it. Right. She
- 20:37has a real deep voice in some ways, she kind of even though they
- 20:42don't have the same voice. But I'm just her approach to ron and reminds
- 20:47me a lot of hurricane g you know, just what a deeper voice.
- 20:52She's not dumb nice. That's good for some of y'all, but she's not
- 20:59the worst thing I ever heard, And that song in particular, it's cool,
- 21:06but I needed to hear more. Well. When I hear her bars
- 21:10next to Benny and Jada kiss, I'm not turned off by him. The
- 21:14only thing I would say was her verse was a little too long, and
- 21:18I don't think I liked that because I don't feel like she was like,
- 21:23this is one of the best verses I ever heard. Let it keep going.
- 21:26I felt like there was a point where it could have ended. It
- 21:30would have been perfect. Right. But she's cool, and she's called Scarlet
- 21:34because she has a scarlet lip. I don't know how she got it.
- 21:37You can google that. I'm assuming there's something crazy, something bad. But
- 21:41nevertheless, she's all the rage right now, busted doing remixes and all that,
- 21:45and now she's on this project with Swiss Beats. But this particular song
- 21:51worth the price of admission, right worth it. So there you have it.
- 21:56Now, I'm gonna tell you, like this out all the beats or
- 22:00what you would think. It's not a boom bat fest. I know it
- 22:03says hip hop fifty, but it's all a hip hop, So don't be
- 22:07afraid when you hear five year foreign or hit that skip button because I'm not
- 22:11the biggest fan either, but I don't. I don't mind his song on
- 22:15here, but for six songs and was here and for it to be kind
- 22:21of hip hop fifty and it's good. This was an improvement from the premier
- 22:26joint. Now the next album that I listened to, and this one I
- 22:33actually had to listen to like three times, because when I first listened to
- 22:37it, I was like, Okay, it's more Lloyd Banks right the course
- 22:42of the inevitable three Pieces of My Pain. This is good, y'all,
- 22:51This, this is good. Now, I will say this, I think
- 22:56Lloyd Banks needs chill with the amount of songs. He's extremely monotone, even
- 23:04in flow, and if you're not into it, or the beats aren't crazy
- 23:11or fit him well, or the hook is not perfect. Also, it
- 23:15could become so redundant and mundane where he could be saying something crazy and you
- 23:21don't even hear it because it sounds no different than what you already heard.
- 23:26But I will say this album maybe better than the first two. The first
- 23:32one was cool and I liked it, but I think I was just happy
- 23:36to have him back, right. The second one, I felt like,
- 23:40the second album in this trilogy, I felt like was more of the same,
- 23:45which wasn't a bad thing, but I was somewhat unimpressed for the things
- 23:49I mentioned. But this third version it's better because I think this is the
- 23:56best production of the three. The production, the field, the darkness feel
- 24:03of it, right, like the whole Griselle to kind of feel, you
- 24:06know, with the grimy beats. Not to say that that's what it is,
- 24:10but you get that vibe and with his voice it's just perfect. I
- 24:15just feel I just feel like it's too long. Man. It's like chill,
- 24:18like, give us, give us fourteen. I don't care how long
- 24:22he's been gone. He just gave y'all a trilogy, right, And I
- 24:27think it's like every year basically dropped an album. So I get it.
- 24:33I get it. People, you know, just glad to have Banks back.
- 24:37Love the music. No, he's nice, we all know that,
- 24:40But I just feel like this one hits different. Is it, you know,
- 24:45one of the best of the Yeah, yeah, i'd say that is
- 24:48it? Top five right now for me, maybe, but I would have
- 24:56to wait. At against what's been released. There are probably two projects who
- 25:03or two projects that I know for a fact, I don't think this is
- 25:06better than but that doesn't mean this can't be three in the top five,
- 25:11right So we'll see. But if you're a Lloyd Banks fan, then you
- 25:17heard the past two albums and you like them, I think you're gonna love
- 25:19this one as well. I will say this real quick before I head out
- 25:23that probably sometime next month, which is right around the corner of Few from
- 25:30the Future, Get your ass out of here. It's already made for you,
- 25:33I'm saying. But next month I will probably do an episode on the
- 25:41best of the year so far. For those that follow this podcast know,
- 25:48oh yeah, I'm listening to hip hop, and by the time we get
- 25:52to the end of the year, I have a very good balanced idea of
- 25:57the best of the best for twenty twenty three and you're seeing the process right
- 26:04again. Follow me on ig at Vegas where I and C you can see
- 26:08all the albums I listened to, and at the end of the year or
- 26:12at the halfway point, you know, I'm going to talk about well what's
- 26:15the best so far? And I will say right now, twenty twenty three,
- 26:25fifty years of hip hop might be the slowest year in a long time
- 26:30when it comes to really great music early because in the year's not over.
- 26:37But in the past couple of years, once we reached that halfway point,
- 26:42I firmly had a top five, like I knew, like yo if the
- 26:49year ended now, these are definitely in my top five I had. Basically
- 26:53I had a five that I didn't think was going to change, even with
- 26:56the whole six months left. I don't have that now. I think two
- 27:02spots are locked down right now, and then the other three will have to
- 27:07be filled and then we'll see what happens. But it's fifty years of hip
- 27:11hop. I've been anticipating some surprises, some really dope albums. It's a
- 27:17couple of people who got projects on the way, like Conway who just dropped
- 27:21another single. Who knows. We'll see what happens. That's going to do
- 27:26it for me. You can follow me on Twitter, Instagram, well we
- 27:30know, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok at Vegas World I n C and
- 27:37if you like to listen to this podcast on the audio side. It is
- 27:40available wherever you get your podcasts. All you have to do is go to
- 27:45your favorite podcasts and app and then the search bar or the you know,
