- 0:00Speaker 1: We are with you up until five o'clock this afternoon,
- 0:04Speaker 1: and glad to have you.
- 0:05Speaker 2: But it's glad to be back at us.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Five days out of town for me, you know, other
- 0:09Speaker 1: in the vacation, that's a bit even for me, unless
- 0:12Speaker 1: it's like for a bowl game or something like that.
- 0:14Speaker 1: But both of us had travel schedules during the course
- 0:20Speaker 1: of the week mine, Cam and I both went up
- 0:24Speaker 1: with a men's basketball team on Tuesday of.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Last week to Raleigh, North Carolina.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The men played on Wednesday against NC State in the
- 0:33Speaker 1: sec ACC Challenge at the Lenovo Center, and Cam and I,
- 0:39Speaker 1: both being from that state, were able to visit a
- 0:42Speaker 1: couple of haunts. Cam with his bo Jangles and cook out.
- 0:47Speaker 1: You did cook out to it. I did cook out.
- 0:49Speaker 1: The second day. I had to have a port barbecue sandwich.
- 0:51Speaker 1: We did that and then Cam flew back with the team.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And I think Rodney said it to me yesterday and pregame,
- 0:57Speaker 1: you guys get back at four o'clock in the morning.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think it was. Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I think I got inside my house at five am.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, long long trip turnaround, so there was that. Cam
- 1:09Speaker 1: got in the plane landed about the time I was
- 1:12Speaker 1: getting up to leave Raleigh for South ben I had
- 1:18Speaker 1: three days, three times in a four day span where
- 1:21Speaker 1: I had a three am wake up call to get
- 1:24Speaker 1: out by four at the latest. In the case of
- 1:26Speaker 1: leaving South Bend on Friday morning, I actually left for
- 1:28Speaker 1: the airport about three forty in the morning. But anyway,
- 1:31Speaker 1: flipped South Bend, did the game, snow everywhere and all
- 1:34Speaker 1: other kind of stuff.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It was messy.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I wasn't quite ready for snow, it wasn't dressed for
- 1:37Speaker 1: didn't have the winter clothing. Tight, hard fought game, Texas losing,
- 1:41Speaker 1: Texas Women losing in overtime to Notre Dame and the
- 1:44Speaker 1: Women's SEC A SC Challenge. They lost eighty seventy in overtime.
- 1:49Speaker 1: And then, like I said, at a six am flight
- 1:52Speaker 1: on Friday morning into Atlanta, and there were various and
- 1:56Speaker 1: sundry issues, mainly with a hotel and getting checked in
- 1:58Speaker 1: and other things like that.
- 1:59Speaker 2: But we got all that out of the way, and.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Then Saturday it was the SEC Championship game, as we know,
- 2:07Speaker 1: and going over time in Texas Falls. We got back
- 2:10Speaker 1: to the hotel Saturday night to fly back Sunday morning. Meanwhile,
- 2:13Speaker 1: Cameron was traveling with the women on Saturday. Now, did
- 2:17Speaker 1: you have a do you have issues on the outbound
- 2:21Speaker 1: or just on the return with the women from Harrisonburg,
- 2:24Speaker 1: Virginia because of yesterday afternoon's game with James Madison.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Just on their return.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Okay, everything went smoothly on the way up.
- 2:31Speaker 4: On the way up as fine. You know, there's some
- 2:33Speaker 4: you know, it's reigning here in Austin. We went up
- 2:35Speaker 4: and got in. Now, we did have one of our
- 2:38Speaker 4: tires blow out on the charter bus in Harrisonburg yesterday
- 2:41Speaker 4: on the way the morning shoot around, and thankfully James
- 2:45Speaker 4: Manson University helped us out and got us to the universe,
- 2:48Speaker 4: to the arena and back and forth and outbound there
- 2:50Speaker 4: was a ground stoppage, of course, and we were delayed
- 2:54Speaker 4: about thirty minutes, forty minutes.
- 2:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:56Speaker 4: I think we got back in about ten pm last night.
- 2:58Speaker 4: So okay, all right, but that's than three Aye, yes
- 3:01Speaker 4: it is, yes, it is. And then the women looke good.
- 3:04Speaker 4: Yesterday I blew out James Madison. They did Maddy Booker
- 3:07Speaker 4: twenty one points, Roy Harmon nineteen now over one thousand
- 3:11Speaker 4: career points. In Jordan lay with twenty points. I think
- 3:14Speaker 4: her it was her career high just a freshman, but
- 3:17Speaker 4: also knocked down six three pointers in her career high
- 3:19Speaker 4: at that point for three pointers made in the game
- 3:21Speaker 4: was just two against Lamar, So she had a coming
- 3:24Speaker 4: out party. And you know, the freshmen did not play
- 3:27Speaker 4: too much against Underdaine. I think, you know, Fix Shaeffer
- 3:29Speaker 4: kind of said, I got to get the freshman more
- 3:32Speaker 4: minutes and that included Breonna Preston and Jordan Lee and
- 3:34Speaker 4: Justice Carleton and Jordan Lee had a fantastic game. And
- 3:38Speaker 4: you know Maddy Booker, I think she had seventeen points
- 3:40Speaker 4: in the first half and James Madison just could not
- 3:43Speaker 4: defend the guard played from Texas. So a good bounce
- 3:45Speaker 4: back victory after that tough overtime loss. The number ten
- 3:48Speaker 4: Notre Dame.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Next action for the women comes Wednesday night at home
- 3:51Speaker 1: against Southern It's their first home game since.
- 3:55Speaker 2: That's been a bit.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I think it's been a month, that's what coach said.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Carter was telling us, Yeah that it's been it's been
- 4:02Speaker 4: about a month. Because that's a game on November thirteenth.
- 4:05Speaker 4: They've been gone for five straight games. It looks like
- 4:07Speaker 4: they're their last home game. Let's see, because they Thanksgiving
- 4:12Speaker 4: week they were gone. So Charlton stated, oh the kids
- 4:16Speaker 4: game Kids not exactly a month, yeah, but close to
- 4:19Speaker 4: that was the twentieth they play on with the fifteenth, eleventh, eleventh,
- 4:25Speaker 4: so about three four weeks.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, but they've been living out of a suitcase pretty much.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I know that feeling. I'm tired of
- 4:33Speaker 1: packing and unpacking that heavy fold over rolling garment bag
- 4:38Speaker 1: that I was having a toted around of Raleigh, in
- 4:40Speaker 1: South Bend, in Atlanta, and then back home. I did
- 4:46Speaker 1: a quick change in the manor garage yesterday.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Of close.
- 4:51Speaker 3: That's nice, that was fun. Yeah, you didn't want to
- 4:53Speaker 3: do it inside the Moody.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I didn't want to drag that bag in there, so
- 4:57Speaker 1: I just I just kind of between a couple of
- 4:59Speaker 1: parts cars, you know, threw on a shirt and yeah, yeah,
- 5:02Speaker 1: changed my pants too, changed trousers, pulled out the jeans.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But I was pretty well tucked away. You would have
- 5:09Speaker 1: had to have been looking for me to see me
- 5:10Speaker 1: standing in my box for short. Yeah, yesterday, it was
- 5:13Speaker 1: just it was a real quick thing. It was in
- 5:15Speaker 1: the shadow of my door and everything, and just put
- 5:16Speaker 1: it once we've all been there, we had to do
- 5:18Speaker 1: a quick change and all that. So there was all
- 5:23Speaker 1: of that, So all of the things that happened. There
- 5:25Speaker 1: Now one other personal note just to because I've already
- 5:28Speaker 1: been asked about it many times already, like Facebook, Messenger
- 5:34Speaker 1: and then some Facebook things and even a couple of
- 5:37Speaker 1: emails and some text people wanting to know how the
- 5:40Speaker 1: Texas Clemson playoff game effects my availability for the UIL
- 5:46Speaker 1: High School State football Championship telecast that I work annually.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Well, it definitely affects it. Obviously.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The Texas Clemson game is on Saturday, December twenty. First,
- 5:56Speaker 1: that's the same day as State Championship Saturday the l
- 6:01Speaker 1: in At and T Stadium. But as we also know,
- 6:06Speaker 1: it's state championship week, it's not just about the three
- 6:08Speaker 1: games are on Saturday, because there's nine other games that happened.
- 6:13Speaker 1: So I will be up there and I will be
- 6:14Speaker 1: calling games. I just won't be there Saturday. And he said,
- 6:17Speaker 1: we'll wait a minute, and then when the two six
- 6:19Speaker 1: A games are yes, and it will be the first
- 6:22Speaker 1: time that I will not have called a six A
- 6:25Speaker 1: state championship game for television in fourteen years. The last
- 6:29Speaker 1: time I didn't call a six A game was twenty
- 6:31Speaker 1: ten because there was a Texas Michigan State men's basketball
- 6:38Speaker 1: gave a huge Top ten matchup with who'ser man from
- 6:44Speaker 1: Michigan State for Golden State Public Enemy number one. Draymond
- 6:48Speaker 1: Green was playing for Michigan State that day and Texas
- 6:52Speaker 1: dominated him, dominated him.
- 6:54Speaker 2: That game and long Orench won that game.
- 6:56Speaker 1: But I had to do that game, so I missed
- 6:57Speaker 1: the six a's that that's the last time I missed
- 7:00Speaker 1: calling the six A state championship games. But I am
- 7:05Speaker 1: calling half of the games. I will be there next week.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I'm calling both six man state championship games. And they've
- 7:14Speaker 1: already determined the finalists for those. By the way, those uh,
- 7:18Speaker 1: those six man state championship game, they've already they've already
- 7:22Speaker 1: determined the finalists for those, and and I was trying
- 7:27Speaker 1: to pull that up here so I can tell you
- 7:29Speaker 1: there's only there's really there's only one returning state champion
- 7:35Speaker 1: in the in.
- 7:36Speaker 2: The six man classification.
- 7:38Speaker 1: That's Gordon, the Gordon Longhorns in one A Division one,
- 7:42Speaker 1: and they're going to be facing white Face, Wow, white Face,
- 7:47Speaker 1: the Anelopes from the Panhandle, and then the and then
- 7:50Speaker 1: the Division two bracket Jaydon is favored substantially over Oakwood.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oakwood is a huge surprise. They haven't been playing six
- 8:00Speaker 1: man that long. They used to be an eleven man program.
- 8:02Speaker 1: In fact, the last time Oakwood was in a state
- 8:04Speaker 1: championship game, I called it on radios a one to
- 8:07Speaker 1: A back then what would now be two A state
- 8:10Speaker 1: championship game against Memphis from the Panana back in nineteen
- 8:13Speaker 1: ninety one. Folks around here high school football fans may
- 8:16Speaker 1: remember Matt Montzingo. He was the coach for several years
- 8:18Speaker 1: at Connolly, then he went down to Canyon Lake. He
- 8:21Speaker 1: was the coach of that Memphis team and they won
- 8:22Speaker 1: the state title. They beat Oakwood. But anyway, I'm doing
- 8:25Speaker 1: both of those six man games, and then that night
- 8:27Speaker 1: calling the two A Division two game, which will match
- 8:30Speaker 1: the winners of this week's semi finals Groover against Munster
- 8:34Speaker 1: and Brimond against Shiner. So I'm doing those two games
- 8:37Speaker 1: Thursday Thursday night. I'm gonna do the three A Division
- 8:40Speaker 1: one state championship game Wednesday night, Thursday night, three Division
- 8:44Speaker 1: one state championship and it should be a doozy. I
- 8:47Speaker 1: think it's probably gonna be Malakoff and Columbus the number
- 8:49Speaker 1: one and number two teams in the state, but Malakoff
- 8:52Speaker 1: has to be Paradise and Columbus has to knock off Edna,
- 8:55Speaker 1: So we'll see. That's Thursday and then Friday have two
- 8:57Speaker 1: games for A Division one could be the big Cinderella
- 9:01Speaker 1: Canyon West Plains and pulled the shocker last week beating Stephenville.
- 9:06Speaker 1: They're playing Salaion and Slide is number one in the
- 9:08Speaker 1: state and I think they'll win that game. And then
- 9:09Speaker 1: the other game is Kilgore against Lavernia, who had knocked
- 9:12Speaker 1: off LBJ in the playoffs and they're still playing, but
- 9:15Speaker 1: I think it'll be Sliona and Kilgore in the four
- 9:17Speaker 1: A Division one. Then I'm doing the five A Division
- 9:18Speaker 1: two Friday night, the winner of Argyle and Dallas South Oakcliff.
- 9:23Speaker 1: They play this week Sock, trying to make it to
- 9:25Speaker 1: its fourth consecutive state title game.
- 9:27Speaker 2: They won two in a row and then lost to
- 9:29Speaker 2: Fort and Aachis Guards.
- 9:30Speaker 1: They got the revenge last week they obliterated PNG in
- 9:34Speaker 1: the quarterfinals. So our Guyle plays Sock. The winner that
- 9:37Speaker 1: gets winner of Richmond, Randall and Bernie for the five
- 9:40Speaker 1: A Division two. So I'll be doing those games six
- 9:43Speaker 1: of I I will not have any of the six a's.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I am doing six A game this Saturday afternoon on
- 9:51Speaker 1: FanDuel Sports Southwest, the Old Valley Sports Southwest Westlake against
- 9:56Speaker 1: Galena Park Northshore. So for those of you who'd gotten
- 9:59Speaker 1: used to watching Westlake in the playoffs playing on KBVO,
- 10:05Speaker 1: they won't be on kbv O. The quote unquote the
- 10:08Speaker 1: network picked it up. So Greg Tepper will join me
- 10:12Speaker 1: for the call of that game. We're going to call
- 10:14Speaker 1: that game Westlake against Galena Park in Northshore Saturday afternoon,
- 10:21Speaker 1: two o'clock. They're playing at Legacy Stadium in Katie and
- 10:24Speaker 1: that is on fan Duel Sports Southwest where you would
- 10:27Speaker 1: watch the Spurs, the Old Valley Sports Southwest. So that
- 10:30Speaker 1: is Saturday afternoons game and then we'll do a scoreboard
- 10:33Speaker 1: Saturday night. So I'm back in the studio for that.
- 10:37Speaker 1: So anyway, that's to let people know that's my situation. Meanwhile,
- 10:41Speaker 1: we best we wish the best of luck to both
- 10:44Speaker 1: Westlake against north Shore and also to Vandergriff who is
- 10:49Speaker 1: playing Saturday night.
- 10:50Speaker 2: It will be the final game of the weekend.
- 10:51Speaker 1: On semifinal weekend, they're playing Summer Creek, which got to
- 10:54Speaker 1: the state finals a year ago before losing to De Sota.
- 10:56Speaker 1: By the way, if you didn't notice, Thesoda got knocked
- 10:58Speaker 1: out of the weekend. Two times defending state champions were
- 11:01Speaker 1: beaten by Longview. Longview will play South Lake Carol in
- 11:05Speaker 1: the other sixth A Division two state summifinal, and inn
- 11:08Speaker 1: six A Division one, it's North Crowley against Duncanville, the
- 11:11Speaker 1: two time defending state title is the winner that get
- 11:13Speaker 1: the winner of that Westlake North Shore game. Also best
- 11:16Speaker 1: of luck as well to Wimberley as the Texans and
- 11:19Speaker 1: the four A Division two bracket, we'll play La Vega
- 11:22Speaker 1: and if you're looking for a game to go to
- 11:24Speaker 1: Friday night in Georgetown, in Georgetown Wimberley and Leavega. The
- 11:28Speaker 1: winner of that to get the winter game between Brock
- 11:31Speaker 1: and Carthage, the number one team in the state. All right,
- 11:34Speaker 1: so there's an overview of the high school. But tomorrow
- 11:37Speaker 1: we'll get into more detailed. Greg Tepper, managing editor of
- 11:39Speaker 1: Dave Campbell Texas Football Magazine, will join us, so we'll
- 11:42Speaker 1: do that, all right. Coming up next we to hear
- 11:43Speaker 1: from Dabo Sweeney, head coach of the Clemson Tigers. We're
- 11:46Speaker 1: gonna hear some more from Sark throughout the shore this
- 11:48Speaker 1: afternoon and the four o'clock hour. Gene Watson for our
- 11:53Speaker 1: MLB Insider from the Chicago White Sox front office joins
- 11:56Speaker 1: us from the Baseball Winter Meeting still to come here
- 11:59Speaker 1: on Sports Medio AM three, ching under the song
