- 0:17Speaker 1: Fulcoming the jag Vam presented by Jet Home Loans. Today,
- 0:20Speaker 1: we are back in our studio after our two weeks
- 0:22Speaker 1: away in London. Brian Sexton and John Oser joined me
- 0:25Speaker 1: as we get ready for the Packers this week. But
- 0:27Speaker 1: we're also gonna recap a little bit of what went
- 0:29Speaker 1: down in London, specifically that second game against the Patriots.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Let's start out with big things. Big thing number one
- 0:35Speaker 1: is gonna be about being tough enough. They were just
- 0:38Speaker 1: tough enough to beat the Patriots, fell down ten nothing early,
- 0:41Speaker 1: but able to battle their way back tank things. We
- 0:43Speaker 1: talked about having fun and kind of feeding off of
- 0:45Speaker 1: each other in the game.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We worked hard this week after we lost when we
- 0:50Speaker 2: fir the first game down, we did a lot of
- 0:52Speaker 2: work this weekend, leaning on each other and said we
- 0:55Speaker 2: gotta go out.
- 0:55Speaker 3: And have fun.
- 0:56Speaker 2: And uh, I feel like we got back to having
- 0:57Speaker 2: fun often start picking it up, and I felt like
- 1:00Speaker 2: defense found off the energy and then we felt the
- 1:02Speaker 2: energy and it just kept going. So that's the contagious
- 1:05Speaker 2: think about this game, when when one side clicked the
- 1:07Speaker 2: other side to get going, and that's the best thing
- 1:09Speaker 2: about it. I feel like we all clicked and we
- 1:12Speaker 2: just got to keep doing it.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Brian. We saw the offense respond falling down ten nothing early,
- 1:17Speaker 1: but then battling back. We haven't seen a ton of
- 1:19Speaker 1: that this year. That was good to see, and in
- 1:22Speaker 1: way of their win, it was and they.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Were tough enough for the Patriots. We're gonna find out.
- 1:26Speaker 4: I mean, they've got a stretch here with teams that
- 1:28Speaker 4: have won at least five games for the next four
- 1:30Speaker 4: or five weeks, so we'll find out if they're tough
- 1:32Speaker 4: enough for the Packers, who are a much different team altogether.
- 1:37Speaker 4: But I thought Mitch Moore said it best. John He
- 1:38Speaker 4: talked about how they were down ten and they talked
- 1:41Speaker 4: to each other in the huddle about not thinking we
- 1:43Speaker 4: had to go get all ten points in this drive
- 1:45Speaker 4: with you obviously can't do it anyway, but you know,
- 1:47Speaker 4: let's get some points. And then it began, let's get
- 1:50Speaker 4: the field goal. And then they got to the you know,
- 1:52Speaker 4: the ten yard line, right, let's get a touchdown, and
- 1:53Speaker 4: they did and from that point they kind of got
- 1:56Speaker 4: on a roll and went up twenty five to ten.
- 1:58Speaker 4: So they can be tough, but it's kind of like
- 2:01Speaker 4: muscle memory. I mean, you've got to be able to
- 2:03Speaker 4: go right to toughness mode when things get difficult, and
- 2:05Speaker 4: we'll find out on Sunday against Green Bay if they've
- 2:08Speaker 4: got that kind of toughness memory.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, you can say all you want, well,
- 2:12Speaker 5: the Patriots are one and six. They're not this, They're
- 2:16Speaker 5: not this. You play who you play. The Patriots certainly
- 2:21Speaker 5: had enough to get up on them. I don't know
- 2:24Speaker 5: if the Jaguars are great, but I think this game
- 2:27Speaker 5: on Sunday, meaning the Patriots game, it gave them a
- 2:30Speaker 5: chance to earn a chance. I mean, you're two and five.
- 2:34Speaker 5: If you get a couple here, then all of a
- 2:36Speaker 5: sudden you get back to four and five. So they
- 2:40Speaker 5: have a lot of proving to do. On Sunday comes
- 2:43Speaker 5: their chance to prove it. I don't know kai if
- 2:47Speaker 5: they proved anything to anybody on Sunday, but boy, they
- 2:49Speaker 5: needed a win.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They absolutely needed. Big thing Number two is going to
- 2:52Speaker 1: be the switch up when we talk about that win.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Things didn't go great for the defense. That's an issue
- 2:57Speaker 1: that's a big issue for this team so far this season.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Tyson Campbell back on the fields the first time in
- 3:02Speaker 1: a while. He talked about that start and how the
- 3:04Speaker 1: team came together to get things back on track.
- 3:08Speaker 3: You know, we had a lot of you know, silly
- 3:09Speaker 3: Pillindy's you know, a lot of just putting in a
- 3:13Speaker 3: lot of positions where we kind of like, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 3: gave 'em plays. But you know, you know, we huddled
- 3:18Speaker 3: up before a job. I think it was going into
- 3:20Speaker 3: the second quarter. You know, a hundred guys up. It's like, hey,
- 3:23Speaker 3: it's us. You know, just as long as you play smart,
- 3:26Speaker 3: have fun, played to the wizard, they can't beat us.
- 3:30Speaker 3: And uh from sixty you got a result we wanted.
- 3:34Speaker 1: John Tyson Campbell's returned to the secondary. They desperately needed that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: We also saw some other changes elsewhere on the defensive
- 3:39Speaker 1: side of the football. Didn't start great, but they finished better.
- 3:43Speaker 5: Yeah. It I it's funny how perception is in this league.
- 3:47Speaker 5: And I I think what I'm getting, ah there is
- 3:49Speaker 5: Tyson had a chance.
- 3:50Speaker 4: I think it a pick.
- 3:52Speaker 5: Andre Saisko had a chance to pick. I think, if
- 3:54Speaker 5: I remember it right, you get those picks, you're off
- 3:56Speaker 5: the field. And this concern the defense is so much
- 4:01Speaker 5: different moving forward. I don't think this is a great defense,
- 4:04Speaker 5: but when it has its hands on the balls, they
- 4:08Speaker 5: need to make the plays at some point. I think
- 4:11Speaker 5: the Packers have like seventeen takeaways, Jawarys have two Defensively,
- 4:17Speaker 5: that's what needs to start changing. When you have the
- 4:20Speaker 5: opportunities to make plays, this defense has to make them,
- 4:23Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden the runs that the
- 4:25Speaker 5: other team get don't seem so tragic, right.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I want to see what they do next, right, because
- 4:32Speaker 4: they tweak some things and it worked in the secondary.
- 4:35Speaker 4: They moved Eric Armstead I think inside more than we've
- 4:37Speaker 4: seen him kai and he was productive. But they got
- 4:41Speaker 4: to fix the problem that they've got at linebacker. It
- 4:45Speaker 4: doesn't appear that Devin Lloyd can cover a tight end,
- 4:49Speaker 4: and I don't know all the coverage, so it might
- 4:51Speaker 4: not always be on him. But they struggled the last
- 4:55Speaker 4: two weeks against tight ends, and they're gonna keep seeing
- 4:57Speaker 4: it and seeing it and seeing it. They are going
- 5:00Speaker 4: to have to be able to cover the underneath. The
- 5:02Speaker 4: one thing that you do see from the Buffalo game
- 5:04Speaker 4: four it is they attack the edges of the Jaguars
- 5:07Speaker 4: defense and try to make guys run sideways, and they
- 5:11Speaker 4: haven't done a very good job in covering that tight
- 5:13Speaker 4: end position. Hopefully, Foyer Luakon can get back in the
- 5:15Speaker 4: game and the Jaguars can shift things around and try
- 5:18Speaker 4: something different with that group.
- 5:20Speaker 1: That leads us into our final big thing, which is
- 5:22Speaker 1: backup plan. The twenty one day practice window was opened
- 5:25Speaker 1: for linebacker Foyer Luiken and also safety Andrew Wingard. He's
- 5:29Speaker 1: been out since early in training camp, so Brian, a
- 5:32Speaker 1: little help is on the way, and this may change
- 5:34Speaker 1: some of the other things we've seen even more.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, they have got to figure some things out. We
- 5:39Speaker 4: have seen what the change at safety did with Darnielle
- 5:43Speaker 4: Savage getting in there. This Dewey's a really good player
- 5:46Speaker 4: and he's got a role on this team and they
- 5:48Speaker 4: have missed having him out there. A Luakon, He's not
- 5:52Speaker 4: a star, but he's a really good player and he
- 5:54Speaker 4: gets guys lined up. And perhaps that's what's missing, is
- 5:57Speaker 4: that person that checks into coverages and Devin doesn't do
- 6:01Speaker 4: it as well as Foyer does. I think Ventre Miller
- 6:03Speaker 4: is a guy who goes forward and makes tackles really well,
- 6:06Speaker 4: but he's still figuring the coverage part out. So maybe
- 6:08Speaker 4: having Foyer Lucon next to him John helps him get settled.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I think the NFL these days is not as
- 6:16Speaker 5: full of instinctive football players as it was when I
- 6:20Speaker 5: was growing up. Now, get off my lawn. But that
- 6:24Speaker 5: being said, I think this defense needs guys like that.
- 6:27Speaker 5: I think Ventre Miller's that to our point right now.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I think Andrew Inguard and Foya Lucan are two of
- 6:35Speaker 5: the more instinctive playmaking have a good feel for their
- 6:40Speaker 5: surroundings guys on this defense. On that front, getting those
- 6:44Speaker 5: guys back will help immeasurably when you've got guys who
- 6:48Speaker 5: know where they need to be.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Absolutely all right, stay with's here on Jagson. We're gonna
- 6:51Speaker 1: go over some of the best plays from the DAGs
- 6:53Speaker 1: win in London over the Patriots.
- 7:05Speaker 6: They were in basically a cover four quarters look and
- 7:08Speaker 6: safeties were low, and that was honestly the look we
- 7:12Speaker 6: were wanting for that play, and we had another option
- 7:15Speaker 6: if if that wasn't the coverage and the situation. But
- 7:18Speaker 6: Brian did a great job of just running at the
- 7:21Speaker 6: corner of keeping outside leverage and just running and then
- 7:23Speaker 6: I'd put it out there, let him go make a
- 7:25Speaker 6: players a great catch. You know, he's he's good at that.
- 7:28Speaker 6: He's been making a lot of plays for us, So
- 7:29Speaker 6: it's fun to watch him, it's fun to play with him,
- 7:31Speaker 6: and just to see him get better every week.
- 7:34Speaker 4: We gotta keep using him.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Welcome back to jag Zam, brought to you by Fields
- 7:38Speaker 1: Auto Group in Jacksonville. And Trevor Lawrence talking right there
- 7:41Speaker 1: about that catch by Brian Thomas Junior. Probably the prettiest
- 7:45Speaker 1: play I saw in that game. But we'll go over
- 7:47Speaker 1: some other stuff as well, but just a beautiful throw
- 7:49Speaker 1: and catch, and it's nice to see that connection with them.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Obviously Brian's a rookie, but sometimes Trevor has you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: it takes time to build up that relationship with the
- 7:57Speaker 1: quarterback and then he clearly trusts him already.
- 7:59Speaker 4: People heard the term playing above the axis and o's
- 8:02Speaker 4: I mean that's what Brian Thomas does. I mean he
- 8:04Speaker 4: makes a play when it doesn't execute perfectly right, like
- 8:09Speaker 4: that ball was thrown and the defensive back, John was
- 8:12Speaker 4: in the one place where he could make a play,
- 8:14Speaker 4: and Brian still managed, while going to the ground to
- 8:17Speaker 4: pull the ball in and not lose it when his
- 8:20Speaker 4: body hit the ground. It was tremendous play on the fundamentals,
- 8:23Speaker 4: But more so than that, he just was and made it.
- 8:26Speaker 5: It would have been easy had he not caught it.
- 8:29Speaker 5: You to say, well, yeah, tough catch too tough. I
- 8:34Speaker 5: absolutely Brian Thomas Junior is him and Tank dagsby the
- 8:38Speaker 5: stories of the season so far. But credit to Trevor too.
- 8:41Speaker 5: He as you said, Brian, there was nothing wrong with
- 8:44Speaker 5: that throw. It was perfectly placed. Remember three weeks ago
- 8:50Speaker 5: when he missed it. Everybody, well everybody in the world
- 8:52Speaker 5: said this kid can't throw deep. Well, that was overreactionary.
- 8:56Speaker 5: He can clearly throw deep. He's thrown fine deep the
- 8:58Speaker 5: last couple of weeks, and he he's steadied the ship
- 9:02Speaker 5: even when the team has not been playing great the
- 9:04Speaker 5: last two or three weeks. It's won, but I wouldn't
- 9:06Speaker 5: say that they have been outstanding. He's done a nice
- 9:10Speaker 5: job of steadying the ship when there was a lot
- 9:12Speaker 5: of noise going on in the ship.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Well, and he listened. He's mentally tough because he missed
- 9:17Speaker 4: Brian on that sideline route at Tottenham against the Bears,
- 9:21Speaker 4: and you could just see the look on his face.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And the next week he comes back fearlessly throws the
- 9:25Speaker 4: ball right down and Gonzales was right with him. Gonzales
- 9:29Speaker 4: can really run the quarterback for the Patriots, and he
- 9:31Speaker 4: just he put the ball out there and went for it.
- 9:33Speaker 4: So I would to give him credit because he questioned
- 9:37Speaker 4: his team and their mental toughness and talked about fragility
- 9:40Speaker 4: and then he went out there and did not play fragile.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Did not play fragile at all. Let's look at some
- 9:45Speaker 1: of the highlights from the game, or some of the
- 9:46Speaker 1: big plays. At least we talked about the team getting
- 9:49Speaker 1: down early. Right, the Patriots scored on their first possession,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and the way they scored wasn't really pretty either, at
- 9:55Speaker 1: some sort of defensive breakdown on that play. It was
- 9:59Speaker 1: just and for me, I was concerned with their mental
- 10:03Speaker 1: state because of how they've been dealing with getting down
- 10:06Speaker 1: early and fighting back having been able to do that,
- 10:08Speaker 1: but proved me wrong. Absolutely. I almost appreciate the fact
- 10:12Speaker 1: that they did get down early and had to battle
- 10:14Speaker 1: back because it proved that proved to me that they
- 10:16Speaker 1: have it within them to do that.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Yeah, sometimes when you're playing a team that doesn't quite
- 10:21Speaker 5: know what it is yet, and I think the Patriots
- 10:24Speaker 5: fit that. The Patriots are still trying to figure it out.
- 10:27Speaker 5: So on this drive, it felt like they were doing
- 10:31Speaker 5: things that maybe they hadn't seen on film a whole lot. Yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 5: made a couple of plays, got it. That happens, And
- 10:38Speaker 5: what good teams do in that situation they figure it out,
- 10:41Speaker 5: they stop, and then you realize very quickly who the
- 10:45Speaker 5: better team is. It happened exactly the opposite for the
- 10:47Speaker 5: Jaguar week before that. As soon as the Bears figured
- 10:50Speaker 5: them out in Tottenham, you said, oh, this is a
- 10:53Speaker 5: problem an overmatched team. It felt that way at Tottenham
- 10:57Speaker 5: for the Jaguars, it felt that way very quickly. And
- 10:59Speaker 5: second quarter on Sunday.
- 11:00Speaker 4: You know, that was a case. You've got a defense
- 11:03Speaker 4: that's not getting pressure with the front four, and that's
- 11:06Speaker 4: what Ryan Nielsen's scheme is about, so you can play
- 11:08Speaker 4: man coverage on the back end. And so they tried
- 11:11Speaker 4: some sort of a zone blitz kind of scheme that
- 11:14Speaker 4: had Josh running across the field to get out there.
- 11:16Speaker 4: I mean, it was a mismatch and it was the
- 11:19Speaker 4: wrong play call at the wrong time because you saw
- 11:23Speaker 4: the play that Patriots just ran out there. I mean,
- 11:25Speaker 4: you hate to see that because you want to see
- 11:27Speaker 4: Josh attacking the quarterback. But if you're not getting there
- 11:31Speaker 4: and you want to try things and you want guys
- 11:33Speaker 4: to be innovative and try to find a moment. That
- 11:35Speaker 4: was what they did. It just was the wrong moment.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Yeah, so I Josh could have gotten some better help.
- 11:39Speaker 5: He actually at his angle. I thought he made the
- 11:42Speaker 5: right play trying to force back inside.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And behind me. Yeah, absolutely, that happens. Let's talk a
- 11:48Speaker 1: little bit more about Trevor. He also had a great
- 11:50Speaker 1: throw to Kirk over the middle in this game. I
- 11:52Speaker 1: think was probably one of his best throws of the day,
- 11:55Speaker 1: leading to their first touchdown of the game. And we
- 11:57Speaker 1: know Trevor can make these throws, but it's always nice
- 12:01Speaker 1: to see him do it on stages like this when
- 12:04Speaker 1: you need it. Right, we just talked about you had
- 12:07Speaker 1: to come down and score on this drive to keep
- 12:08Speaker 1: it within range and to make that put it in
- 12:12Speaker 1: the perfect spot for Kirk and then finished off we'll touchdown.
- 12:14Speaker 4: First quarter, they had five plays, right, I mean in
- 12:17Speaker 4: twenty five yards and so this is their second drive
- 12:20Speaker 4: and you're like, hey, this is really important because you're
- 12:22Speaker 4: down ten nothing and to hit his back foot there
- 12:25Speaker 4: on second and long and just let the ball go,
- 12:27Speaker 4: and of course it's no surprise that he threw rite
- 12:30Speaker 4: a Christian Kirk, the guy he probably has the most
- 12:32Speaker 4: confidence in being where he's supposed to be.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of big time plays there. He threw
- 12:37Speaker 5: to the second level at Kirk and threw over. I
- 12:39Speaker 5: think it was a safety maybe linebacker. Really precise throw
- 12:43Speaker 5: that's tougher to make than it looks what is completed.
- 12:46Speaker 5: It looks easy, but it's a tough throw to make.
- 12:49Speaker 5: And then they scored I think on third down in
- 12:51Speaker 5: the red zone. That's hard to do. I remember they
- 12:54Speaker 5: didn't do it the week before when, but they executed
- 12:57Speaker 5: the play with Gabe Davis. If they're starting, that's some
- 13:02Speaker 5: pretty good execution red zone wise. I mean, I'm even
- 13:06Speaker 5: gonna call it good execution on the drop against the
- 13:10Speaker 5: Bears because the play was there. They seem to be
- 13:13Speaker 5: getting a little more precise in the red zone. That's
- 13:17Speaker 5: important and it could pay off if they start getting
- 13:19Speaker 5: in games as they go on.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Let's take a look at the video of that throw
- 13:23Speaker 1: to Brian Thomas Jr. That we referenced off the top,
- 13:25Speaker 1: because it really is just I was sitting next to
- 13:27Speaker 1: John and I saw him getting ready to throw it,
- 13:29Speaker 1: and I was excited to see the jump ball aspect
- 13:32Speaker 1: of it, because as you mentioned, Brian Christian Gonzalez is
- 13:35Speaker 1: the first round pick their top corner there in New
- 13:37Speaker 1: England of a defense last year that was very, very good,
- 13:40Speaker 1: and he played it about as precisely as you could.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And there's so many aspects to it. When you see
- 13:45Speaker 1: the different angles of just kind of looking over his
- 13:48Speaker 1: shoulder to get it bringing it in even with the
- 13:50Speaker 1: hand on top of him, and then just perfect placement
- 13:53Speaker 1: from where Brian was going to be it was.
- 13:55Speaker 4: And when you see some of the various angles of
- 13:57Speaker 4: how the bawl shifted and brought had to get between
- 14:02Speaker 4: the arm of Gonzales that was there and pull it in.
- 14:04Speaker 4: But I want to point out the blocking because that's
- 14:08Speaker 4: a big throw and you've got to be able to
- 14:11Speaker 4: wind up and make that throw from deep in the pocket,
- 14:14Speaker 4: and if there had been any leakage in the protection
- 14:16Speaker 4: at all, he wouldn't have had the time to do that.
- 14:19Speaker 4: The offensive line is playing better football than they have
- 14:22Speaker 4: at any point of the season. And by the way,
- 14:24Speaker 4: was Cam in on that throw or had Cam already
- 14:26Speaker 4: left the game?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Was?
- 14:28Speaker 4: Yeah? So I mean to have a backup left tackle
- 14:31Speaker 4: holding his own out there and to have everybody else
- 14:33Speaker 4: playing well. The offensive line gave him a chance to
- 14:36Speaker 4: do that.
- 14:36Speaker 5: Look, how many more games in a row does Brian
- 14:39Speaker 5: Thomas have to do special before he just realized is
- 14:43Speaker 5: what he is. I think everybody realizes that he does
- 14:47Speaker 5: something each game. The catch on the two point conversion
- 14:50Speaker 5: is a big time catch. He has a knack here
- 14:54Speaker 5: in big situations coming down with the ball that this
- 14:57Speaker 5: team hasn't had. It's Jimmy right, right, So you've now
- 15:02Speaker 5: gotten to the point with this kid where when he
- 15:06Speaker 5: has single coverage, throw him up, throw the ball up
- 15:10Speaker 5: and see what happens. They haven't had that definitely since
- 15:14Speaker 5: I've been back in twenty eleven, but I guess since
- 15:16Speaker 5: Jimmy in two and four five.
- 15:18Speaker 4: Well, there was that sequence in the second quarter where
- 15:21Speaker 4: they handed it to him on a reverse and they
- 15:23Speaker 4: threw it to him short. I mean they gave him
- 15:25Speaker 4: the ball three or four different times in five or
- 15:28Speaker 4: six plays, and you could just see the suddenness, the twitchiness,
- 15:31Speaker 4: the explosiveness waiting to come through for him, and he
- 15:35Speaker 4: just couldn't. They had it defended just well enough, but
- 15:38Speaker 4: you just get the SATs. John just keep giving the ball,
- 15:41Speaker 4: keep giving the ball. It's gonna be you know, three three,
- 15:43Speaker 4: bam sixty three.
- 15:45Speaker 5: Well, so many times this year, early in the season,
- 15:48Speaker 5: he had big plays on three of their four early touchdowns.
- 15:51Speaker 5: The other day he caught the touchdown, he had fifty
- 15:53Speaker 5: eight yarders set the second touchdown, and then after Parker
- 15:56Speaker 5: Washington's score, he had the two point conversion. This kid's
- 15:59Speaker 5: in involved in special in big.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Moments, just what we need, absolutely, especially at a first
- 16:05Speaker 1: round pick. Let's talk a little bit about Parker Washington's
- 16:07Speaker 1: record setting punt return for them. That was a huge punt.
- 16:11Speaker 1: He was backing up and I was a little concerned
- 16:13Speaker 1: about it, but he must have. He clearly had the
- 16:15Speaker 1: vision to see the giant holes in front of him,
- 16:17Speaker 1: and before you know, he was all the way through
- 16:20Speaker 1: and there was nobody near him except the punter, and
- 16:21Speaker 1: then he beat him.
- 16:22Speaker 5: But there was some football since there too, Brian. He
- 16:25Speaker 5: mentioned in the post game he knew that the Patriots
- 16:29Speaker 5: punter was out kicking the coverage, so he figured that
- 16:32Speaker 5: he was going to get a chance for a return
- 16:35Speaker 5: if he caught it. I haven't asked Doug about it,
- 16:38Speaker 5: but I'm sure at first, he was like okay, good, yeah, yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 5: it's one of those plays because if you let it go,
- 16:43Speaker 5: you had field position. But they haven't had enough plays
- 16:48Speaker 5: like this where something above the x's and o's went
- 16:51Speaker 5: their way. And again, a second year player with some
- 16:55Speaker 5: football since he makes a play.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I mean, the rule is you don't feel the punt
- 16:58Speaker 4: inside the five yard line and there are no rules. Well,
- 17:01Speaker 4: apparently he can break through. Analytics change all that. I
- 17:04Speaker 4: just want to point out that that's the Jaguars backup
- 17:07Speaker 4: p return. Devin Duvernet, the free agent they signed from
- 17:09Speaker 4: the Baltimore Ravens, is on injured reserve, and so you
- 17:13Speaker 4: put Parker out there and he comes up with a play,
- 17:16Speaker 4: I think maybe you should be your primary pup return.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I think this clearly has given him confidence. This is
- 17:22Speaker 1: something we talked about with the younger players, whether its
- 17:24Speaker 1: Tank at certain points or now Parker Washington trying to
- 17:27Speaker 1: get them confident because he's had ball security issues as well,
- 17:29Speaker 1: which I think has been maybe why they were hesitant
- 17:32Speaker 1: at points and maybe why they signed Devin Duvernet in
- 17:34Speaker 1: the off season. But clearly he's shown that he has
- 17:37Speaker 1: that special playability to be able to flip the field
- 17:39Speaker 1: or even score for them, so hopefully getting better as
- 17:42Speaker 1: we go along.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I'd also like to see if maybe that doesn't get
- 17:44Speaker 4: him a greater role in the offense because we know
- 17:48Speaker 4: that he's got that suddenness, that quickness. I mean, he's
- 17:50Speaker 4: not going to stretch the field like Brian Thomas does,
- 17:53Speaker 4: but underneath, I mean, you get a mismatch with him
- 17:55Speaker 4: on a linebacker if you can get that. I'm no
- 17:59Speaker 4: offensive coordinator, just see a guy who make things happen.
- 18:01Speaker 5: Yeah, it's tough to get him in the offense because
- 18:03Speaker 5: he's so much like Christian in a lot of ways
- 18:05Speaker 5: that in the packages, it's hard to get Christian out
- 18:08Speaker 5: and him in. But he's earning, no question.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe utilize him kind of in the where they
- 18:14Speaker 1: use ETN sometimes because he's going to be out for
- 18:16Speaker 1: a little bit with his hamstring injury. See going forward,
- 18:20Speaker 1: of course, we couldn't go through a game without Doug
- 18:22Speaker 1: Peterson wanting to go for it on a fourth down.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Of the analytics probably say don't do that, But in
- 18:27Speaker 1: my heart and soul I knew Doug wasn't going to
- 18:29Speaker 1: be able to not do it. Is it just him
- 18:32Speaker 1: being consistent at this point, like maybe the players just
- 18:35Speaker 1: want to be on the same page with them two,
- 18:36Speaker 1: or he doesn't have an ability.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know where to go with There's other
- 18:40Speaker 4: than you have a chance with a football team that
- 18:42Speaker 4: desperately needed to win, that he desperately wanted to build
- 18:44Speaker 4: some confidence with to go up three scores, and instead
- 18:48Speaker 4: you gave them a chance to hit a thirty three
- 18:50Speaker 4: yard play, a thirty two yard play, and a twenty
- 18:52Speaker 4: two yard touchdown, and if they'd hit the extra point,
- 18:55Speaker 4: they would have gone from potentially being in a three
- 18:57Speaker 4: score game to a one. Hey, you just kick the
- 19:00Speaker 4: field goal and get your team to the victory lane
- 19:03Speaker 4: right with the win and talk about it. I just
- 19:07Speaker 4: that I didn't like at all.
- 19:09Speaker 5: Well, every fiber in what we grew up on Ryan
- 19:12Speaker 5: tells you to go up that many, and I certainly
- 19:16Speaker 5: would have the I'm sure what Doug was thinking is
- 19:21Speaker 5: we have just run seventeen plays. They were in the
- 19:25Speaker 5: midst of what like seventeen straight runs. Yeah, he felt
- 19:28Speaker 5: like they were overpowering it. Let's show confidence in this
- 19:31Speaker 5: offensive line that has been bashed.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I'm not saying i'd have done it.
- 19:35Speaker 5: I think that was his thinking, and in that case
- 19:38Speaker 5: I couldn't agree with it, but I answer was thinking.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I get that, and I know who he is because
- 19:44Speaker 4: I've watched him too, and I can go back to
- 19:47Speaker 4: the two point conversion against the Ravens in twenty twenty two.
- 19:49Speaker 4: But that was a different story. This is a team
- 19:52Speaker 4: that we talked all week long about about fighting till
- 19:56Speaker 4: the end and about being strong and not fragile, and
- 19:59Speaker 4: it just seemed to me that it was too good
- 20:01Speaker 4: of an opportunity to put your team in a chance
- 20:03Speaker 4: to go out there or we're gonna play defense now
- 20:05Speaker 4: with an eighteen point lead. There are times where you
- 20:08Speaker 4: can let your ego right and the moment I want
- 20:11Speaker 4: to slam it through, but you missed on third down
- 20:14Speaker 4: in one. So come on, let's let our football intellect,
- 20:19Speaker 4: which Doug has an abundance of. I've heard him talk.
- 20:22Speaker 4: He knows that. I just they won, so it isn't
- 20:26Speaker 4: an issue. But that was a case where you kick, Oh, it's.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Easier to go over after a win.
- 20:31Speaker 7: That's right.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Sure, stay with us here on JAGSA. I'm coming up
- 20:33Speaker 1: after the break. We'll do a little this or that
- 20:35Speaker 1: as we look into some potential changes next week. For
- 20:42Speaker 1: eleven years, Dreamfinders' Homes have been proud to call themselves
- 20:45Speaker 1: the official homebuilder of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Visit dreamfinders Homes
- 20:48Speaker 1: dot com for all of the available inventory and go Jacks.
- 20:53Speaker 4: This this.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Welcome back in to jag Zam presented by Jet Home Loans. Today,
- 21:03Speaker 1: we're gonna do a little this or that as we
- 21:05Speaker 1: look ahead to some potential defensive changes and offensive changes.
- 21:09Speaker 1: As we start out with the offensive line. We've been
- 21:11Speaker 1: pretty complimentary of them, and give them some credit because
- 21:13Speaker 1: we were very not complimentary of them for quite some time.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But they've been playing well, especially the last maybe three
- 21:18Speaker 1: four games. But Walker Little coming in as Cam Robinson
- 21:22Speaker 1: out with a concussion. He's in the concussion protocol. We
- 21:24Speaker 1: don't know when he will get cleared, but Walker Little
- 21:27Speaker 1: played pretty well yesterday.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Ryan.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Do you keep him in there? Do you ride the
- 21:29Speaker 1: hot hand or do you put Cam Robinson back when
- 21:32Speaker 1: he's ready?
- 21:32Speaker 4: Well, I mean you heard Doug after the game say
- 21:35Speaker 4: that he believed the Travis etn was still the starting
- 21:38Speaker 4: running back because you don't lose your job to injury.
- 21:40Speaker 4: So we know what the head coach's philosophy is here.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I advocated early on when Cam was struggling to put
- 21:47Speaker 4: Walker Little in because Walker Little is playing for a contract.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Now you can argue that Cam Little is too, because
- 21:52Speaker 4: they're both free agents. Cam's gotten paid, Walker hasn't. Walker's
- 21:56Speaker 4: trying to get that buy to the Apple and tackles
- 21:59Speaker 4: make big money. I'm I'm betting John on on the
- 22:02Speaker 4: human condition that hunger and desperation gives me a guy
- 22:06Speaker 4: who will go out and play his best football. And
- 22:08Speaker 4: by the way, you drafted him with the second round pick,
- 22:10Speaker 4: as you're expected by some token, he would be your
- 22:13Speaker 4: left tackle of the future.
- 22:14Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think they're fine if Walker plays.
- 22:18Speaker 5: I don't for a minute that he's gonna believe that
- 22:20Speaker 5: he's going to play over a healthy Cam Robinson, because
- 22:24Speaker 5: Camer Robinson I still think is the best left tackle
- 22:26Speaker 5: on the team, and because.
- 22:27Speaker 4: Of Doug's philosophy.
- 22:28Speaker 5: So what'll be interesting on Sunday is if Walker Little plays,
- 22:35Speaker 5: does that affect the chemistry and cohesion they've been talking about.
- 22:38Speaker 5: I don't think it will. I think they're in a
- 22:39Speaker 5: good situation because he's played seventeen games for this team
- 22:42Speaker 5: and he's played a lot, so I don't worry about that.
- 22:44Speaker 5: I think they have a unique situation and they can
- 22:47Speaker 5: have that with six or seven guys and not just five.
- 22:51Speaker 4: It is interesting because this general manager drafted Walker little
- 22:55Speaker 4: and you've got two tackles relieving, you know, at least
- 22:59Speaker 4: as of right now. Wouldn't you like to find out
- 23:01Speaker 4: if this young player is who you thought he was?
- 23:04Speaker 4: Do you give him more time in the starting lineup
- 23:06Speaker 4: so you can make a proper evaluation for your future,
- 23:09Speaker 4: especially in a year that you're two and five and
- 23:12Speaker 4: skating uphill to try to get into the playoffs.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Anyway, something to keep an eye on that certainly is
- 23:17Speaker 1: best position as well. As we mentioned, we've seen Walker
- 23:19Speaker 1: play at different parts of the line. Left tackles clearly
- 23:22Speaker 1: where he plays his best, So we'll keep an eye
- 23:24Speaker 1: on that and Cam Robinson's status coming up this week
- 23:27Speaker 1: against the Packers. My other this or that going to
- 23:29Speaker 1: be about the linebackers. We told you that Boya Luikin's
- 23:32Speaker 1: practice window is open. He's missed a month with planter fasciitis,
- 23:35Speaker 1: but he should be available soon. We've seen him around
- 23:37Speaker 1: the team a lot, so when it comes to your linebackers. Guys,
- 23:40Speaker 1: what's this going to look like? Foyer, I assume is
- 23:42Speaker 1: definitely one of your starters. But Devin Lloyd, Ventral Miller
- 23:45Speaker 1: has been making plays. You think they'll do something similar
- 23:47Speaker 1: to what they've been doing with Darby and Monterrek Brown
- 23:50Speaker 1: and kind of splitting them up, or you think it'll
- 23:52Speaker 1: be an obvious two starters.
- 23:54Speaker 5: I think they'll continue to rotate. But Brian, I can't
- 23:58Speaker 5: believe that they won't balance it toward Ventrel playing more.
- 24:05Speaker 5: I mean, he the Devin Lroy hasn't been heard. Vnrell
- 24:10Speaker 5: has outplayed him.
- 24:12Speaker 4: He's played very well.
- 24:13Speaker 5: I mean, you can make an argument that Vintrell is
- 24:16Speaker 5: the most instinctive playmaker, you know, fun, having all that
- 24:23Speaker 5: stuff that you want to see out of a linebacker.
- 24:25Speaker 5: They've had here in a while, maybe including Foyer. Now
- 24:29Speaker 5: Foyer has been better and more consistent, knows the defense.
- 24:32Speaker 5: You don't bench foyleer Luke, I'm totally.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Get at that.
- 24:35Speaker 5: But Ventrell Miller, it's hard to argue that he shouldn't
- 24:39Speaker 5: be on the field.
- 24:39Speaker 4: It's Miller you watch, and you don't have to be
- 24:42Speaker 4: any sort of an expert to know that when he
- 24:44Speaker 4: hits people they go down. I so desperately would love
- 24:47Speaker 4: to see Devin Lloyd reach his potential. You know, you
- 24:50Speaker 4: don't see many six foot three and forty pounds linebackers
- 24:52Speaker 4: because those guys become edge rushers in college football these
- 24:55Speaker 4: days and don't pass through the linebacker. He's got the height,
- 24:58Speaker 4: he's got the length, he's got the speed. I like
- 25:00Speaker 4: him a lot, but it always seems where there's an error,
- 25:04Speaker 4: thirty three is somewhere there. So I think he's I
- 25:08Speaker 4: think he's got to go to the sidelines in favor
- 25:10Speaker 4: of Ventro Miller and try to fix his game.
- 25:14Speaker 5: Yeah, team's key on Devin. They know that he's going
- 25:17Speaker 5: to do that. When presented with certain situations, he's going
- 25:21Speaker 5: to bite. He's been doing it too long now, so again,
- 25:25Speaker 5: I would just be surprised if it's not Ventro Miller
- 25:28Speaker 5: playing a lot more.
- 25:28Speaker 4: You know, they gave Devin a sack for the hit
- 25:30Speaker 4: that he made on Drake may right at the line
- 25:32Speaker 4: of scrimmage. He hit it with such force I thought,
- 25:35Speaker 4: all right, that's what I want to see from thirty three,
- 25:37Speaker 4: and then he got turned around by the tight ends.
- 25:40Speaker 4: Just Ventro Miller is a better linebacker.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Right now, all right, we'll see what that looks like. Also,
- 25:47Speaker 1: we know the way Ryan Nielsen substitutes. It might be
- 25:50Speaker 1: a split thing. We might see a lot of different
- 25:52Speaker 1: combinations going forward, but keeping an eye on that as well.
- 25:55Speaker 1: You can maybe activated this week as practice window is open.
- 25:58Speaker 1: So with here we will talk to you about what
- 26:00Speaker 1: we've got coming up this week before the Packers game.

- 26:31Speaker 4: Inside the take it down, Get down.
- 26:39Speaker 7: The door, let's go, let's get it. Let's that's what
- 26:52Speaker 7: we do.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It's Tank Bigsby miked up against the Patriots. If you
- 27:07Speaker 1: haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it. It's very entertaining.
- 27:10Speaker 1: At every Jaguars dot com or Jaguars YouTube you can
- 27:12Speaker 1: check that out. Tank miked up and we're gonna hear
- 27:15Speaker 1: from Tank a little bit later in the week as
- 27:16Speaker 1: well with you John.
- 27:17Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, and hear me on the ozone podcast, and frankly,
- 27:20Speaker 5: a big topic is going to be how I stuck
- 27:21Speaker 5: with him when other people on this show might.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Not a little pat Little Patty, I stuck with him too.
- 27:28Speaker 4: I was talking about no, I was talking about the
- 27:31Speaker 4: ten Carrie stretch in December where he averaged six yards
- 27:35Speaker 4: of carry. Is a don't give up on him.
- 27:36Speaker 1: I don't think anybody on this show was a very
- 27:38Speaker 1: supportive program as a parent.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Well, we can go back and both the tank because
- 27:42Speaker 4: we've got all of that. I probably never get tired
- 27:45Speaker 4: of watching Ezra Cleveland pushing him up the field.
- 27:48Speaker 1: That's offensive line, let's do it. I'm checking in with
- 27:52Speaker 1: Brian Thomas Junior going off the field this week, so
- 27:54Speaker 1: I'm excited for that. And yeah, I'm just excited to
- 27:57Speaker 1: kind of see what this week brings us in terms
- 27:59Speaker 1: of preparation, and it's nice to have a victory week
- 28:02Speaker 1: going into things. We will be back with you on
- 28:04Speaker 1: Thursday morning. We'll get dive deep into that matchup against
- 28:07Speaker 1: the Packers exactly what we can expect. So we'll see
- 28:10Speaker 1: you tomorrow.
