- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well, there is
- 0:05Speaker 1: some major news in New York City tonight because.
- 0:11Speaker 2: After was found out.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Yesterday federal investigations were on Mayor Adams regarding six foreign governments.
- 0:22Speaker 1: A day later, Wednesday morning, there was panic all across
- 0:26Speaker 1: the City Hall because they knew a.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Top official was about to be indicted in city Hall.
- 0:33Speaker 2: But would you believe it that top.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Official was Mayor Eric Adams, New York City's mayor. You know,
- 0:43Speaker 1: my only grape when he came into office in twenty
- 0:45Speaker 1: twenty one was that he didn't rehire the unvaccinated that
- 0:50Speaker 1: lost their jobs under de Blasio. To truly turn the page.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I felt he had to rehire. Then I gave him
- 0:58Speaker 1: a break on the fact that these migrants were coming
- 1:01Speaker 1: in because yes, Biden and the White House were not
- 1:04Speaker 1: doing enough. And while I do believe some of these
- 1:08Speaker 1: investigations against Adams, the fact he wasn't at the DNC
- 1:13Speaker 1: on the stage speaking was retribution for speaking up against
- 1:19Speaker 1: the Biden administration.
- 1:22Speaker 2: But the handling of City Hall.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Since you know, even form my NYPD Commissioner Kaban. By
- 1:34Speaker 1: the way, there are now three commissions that have run
- 1:37Speaker 1: through City Hall and the NYPD one Police Plaza. Remember
- 1:42Speaker 1: kishon sole start of the year, the network Kaban took
- 1:46Speaker 1: over and then now it's Domalin who was raided on Saturday,
- 1:50Speaker 1: just a few days after his introduction as interim. But
- 1:56Speaker 1: Mayor Eric Adams being indicted is very concerning.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Why Turkey.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Turkey, if you don't know, is led by if I'm
- 2:09Speaker 1: not mistaken, Ertawan.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Why would he want anything to do with Artawan, who
- 2:19Speaker 2: is clearly an extremist and you know, pretty much a dictator.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Why would the mayor of New York turn to Turkey
- 2:34Speaker 1: for this to be elected?
- 2:36Speaker 2: Here? Why you know?
- 2:40Speaker 1: I met Mayor Eric Adams in twenty twenty four, actually
- 2:43Speaker 1: on Saint Patrick's Day.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I saw him earlier last year as well. But behind
- 2:49Speaker 2: the scenes he was hiring his friends.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He was hiring people who then would to ask favors
- 2:57Speaker 1: of other people. And did Adams do anything about those
- 3:03Speaker 1: friends of friends who were trying to get favors from Yes,
- 3:07Speaker 1: the NYPD.
- 3:09Speaker 2: No, he did nothing.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's mismanagement right there. As mayor and lackluster, did he
- 3:20Speaker 1: truly do anything to eliminate the migrant crisis? We report
- 3:24Speaker 1: on this a while back. They weren't funneling people out
- 3:28Speaker 1: of the city. They were crowding up the burroughs with illegals,
- 3:33Speaker 1: making new shelters happen. So yes, I can see Mayor
- 3:38Speaker 1: Adams's point while saying the migrant crisis is not on
- 3:42Speaker 1: the hands of New Yorkers, but the bullsy move would
- 3:47Speaker 1: have been to ship them out of New York and
- 3:49Speaker 1: not into the boroughs.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Even more so there he didn't handle it completely.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I think the other reason why I gave Adams some
- 4:01Speaker 1: leeway here is because.
- 4:04Speaker 2: He was a.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Higher bar than Deblasio. At least he respected law enforcement.
- 4:11Speaker 2: At least he.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Knew it because he was in the NYPD and then
- 4:15Speaker 1: he became broke pressing in Brooklyn.
- 4:17Speaker 2: But he was there on the ground in law enforcement.
- 4:22Speaker 1: You would never see anybody turned their back on Adams
- 4:27Speaker 1: like the prior Mayor Deblasio. The deflections, the resignations of
- 4:38Speaker 1: almost everybody. I mean, by the time this podcast is done,
- 4:41Speaker 1: another resignation could be happening. It could be Mayor Adams
- 4:44Speaker 1: by the time this podcast is done. I don't know,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but it's disappointing because personally, I didn't feel like I
- 4:55Speaker 1: had to combat him on everything.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Great to talk to.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Actually was very excited the Gabby and I got engaged
- 5:03Speaker 1: because he met us last year, met her last year.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Not a good mayor, but Adams had this thing about
- 5:11Speaker 1: him and by the way, breaking news. He just said
- 5:15Speaker 1: he's not stepping down. He's not stepping down, which is
- 5:20Speaker 1: a he expected response. That just breaking as I'm recording tonight,
- 5:29Speaker 1: expected response from Adams. He won't up down if charged.
- 5:37Speaker 1: AOC is going after Adams as well, saying he should resign.
- 5:41Speaker 1: The mayor clapped back in him at her, saying, I
- 5:47Speaker 1: have a city to run, but I feel like it's
- 5:51Speaker 1: gonna be inevitable that he will be pushed to resign.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I don't see his longevity here as an indicted mayor. Now,
- 6:06Speaker 1: someone make the argument, well, Trump's a convicted villain and
- 6:08Speaker 1: he's still running for president, so there is that likeness there.
- 6:14Speaker 2: In fact, this is a really wild first.
- 6:17Speaker 1: He's the first mayor, the first sitting mayor in New
- 6:20Speaker 1: York City history, to be indicted in office, and yet
- 6:27Speaker 1: he won't step down. And we'll see if that changes
- 6:31Speaker 1: to as I'm sure pressures are gonna come.
- 6:34Speaker 2: From, but we really can't. We can't handle this.
- 6:39Speaker 1: And he cannot handle a Scott Stringer for mayor down
- 6:42Speaker 1: the road. They can't handle Brad Lander, who's just really
- 6:52Speaker 1: awful controller, so much so he wants to depute weaponize
- 6:55Speaker 1: the Controller office against Adams. You know that's happening, right. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: we talked about sports adaptability, but I have my eyes
- 7:04Speaker 1: on city politics too, because it's my lifeblood. New York
- 7:07Speaker 1: City is my lifeblood. I've met all the living mayors
- 7:12Speaker 1: in this city. In fact, I was thinking, what of
- 7:16Speaker 1: twenty twenty nine and I would be thirty seven would
- 7:19Speaker 1: be a perfect time to run and be a storybook
- 7:24Speaker 1: kind of s thing running for mayor. I don't know
- 7:27Speaker 1: if I'd win, but I I mean I fully expected
- 7:36Speaker 1: Mayor Adams to win a second term.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I fully expected it.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I think the other issues I've had with him was
- 7:47Speaker 1: he was calling it a perception that the city was
- 7:52Speaker 1: not safe, and partly of it true. I mean, I
- 7:55Speaker 1: don't feel afraid walking through the.
- 7:57Speaker 2: City, but.
- 8:03Speaker 1: There are real crimes happening and that's not perception. A
- 8:09Speaker 1: person being shoved off the subway platform is not a perception,
- 8:12Speaker 1: that's a reality. A ferry evasion where you actually lead
- 8:20Speaker 1: to guns being confiscated is a reality, it's not a perception.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So there are things where I felt he could have
- 8:33Speaker 2: just been honest and said, you know what, we're working
- 8:35Speaker 2: to get the crime numbers down. But this again is
- 8:38Speaker 2: the first mayor.
- 8:42Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, Aaron Judge hits a three
- 8:43Speaker 1: run Homer tonight as the mayor of New York gets indicted.
- 8:47Speaker 1: You can't make this up. You cannot make this up.
- 8:56Speaker 1: What is the Nick Castiano's three.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Run bopmans with the orcs? Mayor first ever gets invited
- 9:01Speaker 2: and can't make this up? Well, anyway, I digress.
- 9:09Speaker 1: This is bad news, and it's bad news because we
- 9:13Speaker 1: now have from a local perspective, a city that's a
- 9:18Speaker 1: mess and a vulnerable city is not a safe city.
- 9:21Speaker 2: It's a city that criminals want to take advantage of.
- 9:24Speaker 1: The NYPD and turmoil is not good for safety of
- 9:28Speaker 1: the city. City Hall in jambles, not good for the
- 9:32Speaker 1: safety of our city.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Crap man.
- 9:36Speaker 1: The Biden administration still defends the Afghanistan withdrawal.
- 9:40Speaker 2: He said that Biden Yestery said it at the UN
- 9:46Speaker 2: but they did that would draw terribly.
- 9:48Speaker 3: And then that was when we looked vulnerable on the
- 9:51Speaker 3: global stage for the that set the stage for the
- 9:55Speaker 3: wars we're seeing now in Ukraine versus Russia and of
- 9:59Speaker 3: course Israel now versus an.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Homus, because the enemy is looking at us as vulnerable
- 10:08Speaker 1: all across the board.
- 10:09Speaker 2: In New York City, the greatest city in the.
- 10:11Speaker 1: World, looking vulnerable doesn't help. An indicted mayor doesn't help
- 10:18Speaker 1: with the appearance of a great, safe, and truly thriving city.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I mean, it is almost one.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Disaster after another because the Blasio had the COVID crisis,
- 10:32Speaker 1: which is terribly managed.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Now this.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And what have we been doing for the last four
- 10:40Speaker 1: years trying to bounce back from that crisis.
- 10:43Speaker 2: This is a crisis.
- 10:48Speaker 1: This is not having one leg up from America for
- 10:51Speaker 1: the on a global stage.
- 10:55Speaker 2: It's just showing we are vulnerable.
- 11:00Speaker 1: And I think, while he wants to keep going, and
- 11:04Speaker 1: he does have a city to run, how do you
- 11:08Speaker 1: make the city look stronger? Maybe resignation is the answer.
- 11:14Speaker 1: If charged, how about that. But I will tell you this,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I've ended up having one leg up against indictments by
- 11:25Speaker 1: not voting for an indicta mayor.
- 11:27Speaker 2: You heard that right. I did not vote for Adams
- 11:31Speaker 2: in twenty twenty one because I was a lot of Curtis.
- 11:34Speaker 1: As you know, Curtis what got me into radio, and
- 11:38Speaker 1: he was the man of New York. He is a
- 11:44Speaker 1: staple of New York City, and I thought this was
- 11:49Speaker 1: his time to do it in twenty twenty one.
- 11:53Speaker 2: But yes, him.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Bringing me into my first job in radio, that's a
- 11:56Speaker 1: loyalty thing right there.
- 11:59Speaker 2: That's a loyalty thing right now.
- 12:03Speaker 1: And so I did not vote for the first indicted
- 12:07Speaker 1: mayor in New York City history. We'll see what happens
- 12:15Speaker 1: when it's unsealed tomorrow. But this hurts, and it's pretty
- 12:21Speaker 1: shameful to be home to an indictement, to where city
- 12:28Speaker 1: Hall is an indicted mayor. A colleague said to me,
- 12:32Speaker 1: how fast can you make a meme where spirit of
- 12:34Speaker 1: Halloween has taken over city Hall?
- 12:36Speaker 2: That was pretty good, But this is not good.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And at all levels of the places we care about Washington,
- 12:46Speaker 1: New York City, and for a lot of people Israel,
- 12:54Speaker 1: there are vulnerabilities, and those vulnerabilities have to be reasons old.
- 13:03Speaker 2: And tonight. With this indictment. While we can admire his.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Pushing and soldiering on, I don't see another way for
- 13:12Speaker 1: Adams to continue.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I don't.
- 13:16Speaker 1: And that scares me because I think there's gonna be
- 13:18Speaker 1: a way left or mayor that's gonna come in, and
- 13:23Speaker 1: that's gonna be dangerous.
- 13:28Speaker 2: God Bless New York, God bless America.
- 13:31Speaker 1: And by the way, I mentioned Israel because thank God,
- 13:37Speaker 1: thank God, they intercepted Hesbila missiles in Tel Aviv. Tel
- 13:42Speaker 1: Aviv was under attack today. The White House was concerned.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Did you know about that? Because if you didn't, this
- 13:51Speaker 1: is why we have one look up on news to
- 13:53Speaker 1: tell you things you probably haven't heard of yet. But
- 13:58Speaker 1: while I have pictures with Rudy and Diplasio and Bloomberg
- 14:03Speaker 1: and Adams and even Dinkins, I got a picture with
- 14:07Speaker 1: him at the State of Girl while he was still around.
- 14:12Speaker 2: The fact of the matter is.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I am proud to not have voted for our first
- 14:23Speaker 1: indicted mayor. That's how one Leg Up on indictments works
- 14:28Speaker 1: in my view at the Alex Garrett One Leg Up Network.
- 14:33Speaker 1: This is only the beginning. I don't know what happens tomorrow.
- 14:37Speaker 1: We'll keep an eye on it for you here on
- 14:40Speaker 1: the One Leg Up Network. But my, oh my, Mayor
- 14:44Speaker 1: Adams indicted over campaign contributions from Turkey from Turkey erda
- 14:58Speaker 1: one is dictator. What is Adams doing messing around with
- 15:03Speaker 1: the countries?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Who's led by a dictator? What is that?
- 15:09Speaker 1: I'd like answers, mister Adams, mister Mayor, and hopefully more
- 15:15Speaker 1: answers and less defiance will make us less vulnerable, because
- 15:21Speaker 1: New York City can't be vulnerable right now. Right now,
- 15:27Speaker 1: we are the hotbed of anti Semitism. We are the
- 15:31Speaker 1: hotbed as a target. It just feels like we are
- 15:37Speaker 1: a prime target. And when our house is not in order,
- 15:44Speaker 1: that just leaves the door open. We gotta close that
- 15:50Speaker 1: door in many ways, by the way, as a country.
- 15:58Speaker 1: And as I say, and if you catch my drift, congratulations,
- 16:03Speaker 1: have a renight.
- 16:04Speaker 2: On the Alex Garrett podcast, Landmark
