- 0:00So the Barshah Barshah Chalak has the story of the spice and
- 0:07that term spice is already a negative term that we use to
- 0:10describe these people. The overall story, we'll go into
- 0:13the details is that beginning Barshah Hashem del Mushira Veno
- 0:19send these people, send for you people a nashim to go tour the
- 0:25land like Tudor, which is a word for it.
- 0:27Tour, inspect, learn about the land, the land we're about to go
- 0:31into. Let them go and look out, seek
- 0:34out the whole land and then come back.
- 0:37And that's fine. Send those people who are the
- 0:39people that can be sent 12 leaders of 12 Naseem, leaders of
- 0:44each tribe. Every tribe will have a
- 0:47messenger to go out and spy the land.
- 0:51That's opening story of Alfred Asha.
- 0:54Now they're called a Tutu to tour the land.
- 1:00Eventually. We call them spies.
- 1:02Miragalim, we call them spies. That right there gives you a
- 1:05little inkling as to what happened.
- 1:07There's another thing. Another thing is this.
- 1:10Or she opens up the parasha by saying that this parasha, the
- 1:15story of these spies comes right after the story of Miriam
- 1:22talking about Moshev and Lasha. That's why she it should have
- 1:26learned we put the two stories connect to each other because
- 1:29these people and the whole Jewish people who asked for
- 1:31these spies should have learnt a lesson, which is you speak
- 1:35Asharah, it's a bad thing. And these spies as well, we're
- 1:38about to speak Asharah about the land.
- 1:40They should have learnt a lesson and not spoken bad about the
- 1:44land. That's already an inkling as to
- 1:46what went wrong with this Blaharah, what went wrong with
- 1:49this mission of the spots. All right, now what is this idea
- 1:52when you I said the words that we use for them are La Tudu,
- 1:56which was tore the way and the word that we used end of the day
- 1:59is Marigalene, which is part. What does that mean?
- 2:01What's the difference? The difference between what the
- 2:05mission was and what the mission became is that they were sent
- 2:10out do something positive, which means God told them to take you
- 2:15into the land. God told them the land is great.
- 2:19I'm going to take you and just go look at it.
- 2:20You want to look at it, Go look at it.
- 2:22There's a big debate if I shouldn't want them to go in or
- 2:24not, but OK, you want to do it, do it.
- 2:26Then Amban says that it's very normal before you go into a land
- 2:30to look at the land. That's fine, right?
- 2:32She says the overall mission was not necessary either way you go,
- 2:35fine. But the overall thing was look
- 2:38at the land. That's not what they did.
- 2:40They came in and they spied the land.
- 2:43Spied the land means they came in and they came with a negative
- 2:47approach. They came with a negative
- 2:49approach and they turn this trip instead of it being looking at
- 2:53the land and the spine of the lamb.
- 2:56Now let's break down how that switch happened.
- 3:00Very important. Pasuk says Shlah, Laha and
- 3:04nashim, they were called men. Men means they were originally
- 3:08great men. And nashim is a word for
- 3:10distinguished men. They were originally great men
- 3:12and they became spies. What happened?
- 3:16They go to the land, look at the land.
- 3:17They come back with a terrible report about the land.
- 3:19Everything that they see, it turns one negative everything.
- 3:22How do you explain that started off as distinguished men sent to
- 3:27do a holy mission. They come back as spies and they
- 3:32come back with terrible news. They explain it.
- 3:35So I saw one explanation is a very important point.
- 3:39It says originally before they were chosen, before they were
- 3:43chosen for this mission, they were distinguished great men.
- 3:46When did they go wrong? One explanation is the moment
- 3:50after they were chosen, the moment they were given that
- 3:53position, they lost their logic, they lost their mindset, they
- 3:58lost their mission, which is originally when they were
- 4:01chosen, that God picked out distinguished men.
- 4:04I have a mission for you. Please go look at the land.
- 4:08Then they were chosen, says the Stipler.
- 4:10Once they were chosen, they said, oh, I was chosen, I have a
- 4:14job, I have an important mission, and now we got to the
- 4:18head. And now they decided to
- 4:19interject themselves into this job.
- 4:23Once they inject themselves into the job and arrogance and their
- 4:26own opinion, they change everything.
- 4:29They went from people looking at the land to people spying in the
- 4:31land, people who are supposed to deliver an obvious positive
- 4:34report to those who delivered a negative report because they
- 4:38interjected themselves. OK, so you interject yourself,
- 4:41how does that turn into negative?
- 4:43So there's this point at the Zohar rights.
- 4:46And these individuals had a very significant fear about going
- 4:51into the land of Israel. And that is that we're afraid
- 4:55while we're in the mid bar, we have a job.
- 4:58Our job is that we're the leaders of the tribes.
- 5:01Now we're giving a task to go to on the land.
- 5:03Once we go into the land of Israel, very positive.
- 5:06And potentially we're going to lose our job.
- 5:10Maybe we go into Israel eventually and we settle and the
- 5:15tribes settle, maybe we'll lose our job.
- 5:17And so once they're interjecting themselves and they were given a
- 5:20mission to tour, now they had their own mindset and their own
- 5:26ulterior motives playing a role into their mission.
- 5:28And they're thinking to themselves, hey, if we ever go
- 5:32into this land, we might lose our job.
- 5:34And they interjected that into their mindset that developed a
- 5:37negative opinion and upward negative outcome.
- 5:40So the picture is, sorry, people who was sent?
- 5:45Schlac Lagard, you have a mission, you're a messenger, do
- 5:50your job and come home. You don't know.
- 5:52They interject themselves. They thought about themselves.
- 5:55They had the arrogance in themselves, and they turned a
- 5:58very simple open shot case into what we have today.
- 6:01OK, All right. Well then.
- 6:04They could have done the other way also.
- 6:06They can go into the land and they could turn out be leader to
- 6:09the lands since they were the first.
- 6:12People to go in there, they didn't have confidence.
- 6:15Of course those are grossly so they have they got a very good
- 6:18report. So this plays into a broader
- 6:21question on the Oprah Asia. If you had to pinpoint the one
- 6:26floor Magdalene Spies story is a challenging story because like
- 6:29we said, those went in, they went in to give a negative
- 6:32report and they impacted our ability to go and we were about
- 6:36to go in a couple of days. Scott was going to take us in,
- 6:38walk right in. No war, no fighting, no issues,
- 6:41stray miracle. And because they came back on
- 6:44negative report and the Jewish people accepted that negative
- 6:47report, it turned into 40 years staying in the desert, not just
- 6:52four years. All the people who were adults
- 6:55at the time, 20 year old at the time while on the desert, all at
- 6:58the pass away before we went in that entire generation lost the
- 7:02right to go into Israel. That was the only hope.
- 7:06He lost that right. That was the ultimate goal and
- 7:08lost it because of this spy mission.
- 7:10So it's a major destructive mission.
- 7:12So all those we still never made it into the web.
- 7:14They stride the the the leaders themselves passed away right
- 7:17away right away. Only Caleb and Yoshua from the
- 7:22entire Jewish people. Two good spice survive out of
- 7:26that the entire army sale a pair were killed Thai army sale over
- 7:31the next 40 years. It's an unbelievable thing.
- 7:34So now to your question which was it could have gone like I'm
- 7:37I'm describing it that they had Ontario motive and therefore
- 7:40they turn it into a negative. They could have had Ontario
- 7:42motive and thought about it as a positive.
- 7:44That plays into this broader thought.
- 7:46What is the core issue with the spies?
- 7:51Was it was was it looking at things in a bit of light?
- 7:56Oh, that's it. The core issue was a lack of a
- 7:59muna, a lack of faith. And if you play into that plays
- 8:03right into your point, which is I'll give you a clear example.
- 8:06I'm constantly mind all the time people think about from Jola one
- 8:11day will they move to Israel? You know better than I should be
- 8:14rebuilt to move to Israel. So in the back of your mind, if
- 8:17you have anything established over here in Brooklyn or New
- 8:20York or America, people even, let's say they don't do it.
- 8:24Let's say we'll move to Florida. Not much.
- 8:25Yeah. Or move to Florida in the back
- 8:27of your mind automatically. What happens?
- 8:30So it always works. It's eases up.
- 8:33What's going to change? What am I going to lose when I
- 8:36move there? Alright, I'm established here.
- 8:39I have a shul here. I have a job here.
- 8:42I have a business here, I have my family here, whatever it may
- 8:45be. And you thinking to yourself,
- 8:47oh, when we move it's going to be different automatically.
- 8:51It's always works. And when people are bored up,
- 8:53you know, people are, people are very afraid to change.
- 8:55Again, it could be a move, could be phenomenal, but people are
- 8:59afraid to change. What's the difference?
- 9:00The difference is how much faith you have, especially when it's a
- 9:05godly move like Mashiach coming. How much faith does a person
- 9:08have? Every person is lacking faith
- 9:10and thinking themselves move means upheaval.
- 9:14I mean challenge. If a person has faith, I think
- 9:18themselves move means God is moving us, especially if Hashem
- 9:22is taking us dead cell or Hashembling Mashiach, God is
- 9:26taking us. And I'll make sure my situation,
- 9:28your remains is good and even better.
- 9:30And that plays into the fact that the spies, they had a
- 9:33negative, they looked at everything in negative light.
- 9:36They had a negative report like Shana at the core, Altera motive
- 9:40at their core and a lack of belief.
- 9:43And because of that lack of belief, they were nervous about
- 9:45the future. And they therefore, because of
- 9:47that nerve, saw things in negative light and because of
- 9:50that set over things in negative light.
- 9:52But at its core, core core over the lack of belief.
- 9:54All right. And he rejected themselves into
- 9:57the picture with their lack of MO na.
- 10:00And that's how it's laid out. And therefore a person has to
- 10:02realize whenever you look at anything in life, if you add
- 10:06more beta horn to that picture, you can see it in the positive
- 10:09light. If you add less beta horn, see a
- 10:11negative light. You name the world story, you
- 10:15name the news report, you name whatever it is in life, it can
- 10:19always be a negative perspective and a +1, whether it be stocks
- 10:24going up and down, upheaval to the world, whatever it may be to
- 10:28see a negative light, you see a positive light.
- 10:30It all depends on how much you interject got into the picture.
- 10:34That's what you see in front of these spies.
- 10:36Interesting thing when they came back they were punished, the
- 10:41whole Jewish people were punished and the punishment was
- 10:4440 years staying in the desert with 40 years coming from we
- 10:47always know of 40 years, 40 years came because the spies
- 10:51travelled in it as you sell in the land of Canaan.
- 10:55At the time of 40 days, God said I want to punish the people a
- 11:01year per day. Why?
- 11:04Why the punishment should be with the amount of words that
- 11:07was spoken. That's the issue, the amount of
- 11:09negative reporting that was spoken.
- 11:10Why are you punishing for the the years based on the amount of
- 11:13days that they travelled? So I've always had this
- 11:16question. It happens to be last time I saw
- 11:17the answer and the answer is, is that the issue at its core we're
- 11:22saying and we're not. But even beyond that, the issue
- 11:25was the negative. Look at everything.
- 11:27Was the land a beautiful land or was it a terrible land?
- 11:30Depends who you ask if you ask Hashem, well, Shenabano hard on
- 11:34it's a beautiful land, it's a miraculous land.
- 11:36It's a gifted land. It's great.
- 11:38If you ask the spies, everything that they saw was bad.
- 11:41They saw people dying. They saw giants, but the giant,
- 11:44but they're actually giants. So that's they were actual
- 11:47giants. People who lived in the land at
- 11:49the time to read Basuk says they came there and they saw giants.
- 11:53They got afraid. There are humongous people of
- 11:56how can we fight them. Scary thing they saw.
- 11:58There were a lot of burials going on, a lot of a lot of
- 12:01funerals going on. So my gosh, it's a land of
- 12:04giants and people die here. What's going on over here?
- 12:07Meanwhile, Hashem's perspective was a land of giants means it's
- 12:11a very healthy land. The air is very good over here
- 12:14and it's a people are being buried.
- 12:17God did it on purpose to distract the locals from
- 12:21noticing these spies. Everything was all part of the
- 12:23frame, but the spies didn't see it that way.
- 12:26Everything that they saw was turned into a negative.
- 12:29And if you have an arterial motive and you have a lack of
- 12:32belief, whatever the with everything in the back of your
- 12:34mind, you can see anything in turn to bad and you can see
- 12:37anything in turn to good. That's the power of it's funny.
- 12:40La Shunara is not really a sin of speech at its core.
- 12:45It's really a sin of perspective.
- 12:47That's just telling you over here.
- 12:48So every day that they travelled in the land was another day of
- 12:53bad perspective. So God says my punishment is not
- 12:56going to be something for the words that they say, my
- 12:59punishment actually going to be more effectively and more
- 13:02importantly on the site that they saw because that's where
- 13:05the problem really lies. And we're saying even deeper
- 13:07than that be the horn, but at least it's a sight that they saw
- 13:11and it tells all of us. If you can, if you you have you
- 13:14interject yourself into the picture, you may very well have
- 13:17an alteria motive and see these in negative light.
- 13:20OK, I can't tell you how many times the rest two weeks just
- 13:25because I'm thinking about this. I've had conversations with
- 13:27people about the same event. One person told me one of the
- 13:33greatest days of their life. Another person told me it was a
- 13:36total waste of time. OK, two different events that
- 13:39came to money, two different events came to mind, come to my
- 13:43mind and the same conversation happened.
- 13:46One guy told me it was one of the greatest days of his life.
- 13:48Other person told me a waste of time.
- 13:51How is it possible? The answer is the person who's
- 13:54at the greatest event of his life.
- 13:56He actually, that event was promoting him in the sense not
- 13:59him directly, but his type, whatever it may be.
- 14:02Let me give you exact examples. So because of that, to him,
- 14:06greatest event of his life because what they do, they got
- 14:08up there and they spoke about people like him.
- 14:11So of course they felt great. And the other person who saw his
- 14:14waste of time, he doesn't go to that institution and he actually
- 14:18feels a little bit small and significant about not being part
- 14:21of that institution. So to him, waste of time.
- 14:24And this happened twice. A couple of days ago, same
- 14:26thing. There was a local event with all
- 14:28the rabbis about something and one person told me I he can't
- 14:32believe it or the the leam around was so special and the
- 14:36other person told me I can't believe.
- 14:37So you know what happened to you?
- 14:39Why? Why do we even have that event?
- 14:42I'm telling this scene and what's the difference?
- 14:44One guy, he felt very good by that event.
- 14:47He was central stage. The other person was back in the
- 14:50room. Because of that.
- 14:52He's so in a competitive light and you have to realize your
- 14:55opinion. I've always had this talk and I
- 14:58confirmed him on my father many times and that is how does it
- 15:03work that every Republican always is in alignment, all
- 15:07Republican opinions. You're telling me that the I
- 15:10know that today there's something called the social
- 15:11Republican or they have a word for it, a fiscal Republican.
- 15:14But technically speaking, in general, Republicans and
- 15:16Democrats, they usually step in line every He's telling me they
- 15:20have the same opinion about guns, wars and the same opinion
- 15:26about the economy. It's all in line.
- 15:28It's not exactly the same mind over the time you led to believe
- 15:31in your mind. That's the same way of thinking.
- 15:33It's not. It's one discussion about being
- 15:36conservative when it comes to finances.
- 15:38There's another discussion about being aggressive when it comes
- 15:40to war. Right now we know that we think
- 15:43in line with certain people most of the time, but how does it
- 15:45work out? My father used to say all the
- 15:47time, He used to say, when do they lose their their opinion
- 15:52Republican specifically when they talk about the need the
- 15:55right to bear arms. He's to say that happens to be
- 15:59in his opinion. That was when he thought
- 16:01Republicans overdo it. It's a good example.
- 16:04He says, because you're telling me about martial law and the
- 16:06ability to rise up and stuff like that.
- 16:08Come on, just tell me about that.
- 16:10Whether that's an opinion or not, that's fine.
- 16:12But the point is how does it work out that everyone's in the
- 16:15exact everyone steps in line perfectly.
- 16:17You ever watch a Democratic show, a liberal show?
- 16:21Everything's in line. How's it work that the social
- 16:24laws and that the financial laws and all these things all in line
- 16:27and go to a Republican show? Everything's all the answer is
- 16:30you start to think about the back.
- 16:31I'm right, my group is right and we're in the right opinion.
- 16:36And eventually you start to think that it's all one head,
- 16:38right? I can't handle you give me one
- 16:40liberal view I can't handle. I'm gonna make it what it's
- 16:42regarding. I can't stand you.
- 16:44Give me one to every conservative view I like, even
- 16:47if you tell them you're right to bear arms, even though I have no
- 16:49plan of getting a gun and I have no idea what I want to do with
- 16:52the gun. But fine, Kaka, That's how
- 16:54people think. But the point overall is just an
- 16:56example. The point is, is that that's
- 16:58however on my team gonna make me feel good and look good.
- 17:02I think it's a good thing. Off my team, the other team
- 17:05couldn't make me feel bad and look bad.
- 17:08I think it's a bad thing. And overall, that's how we
- 17:10think. That's how we report.
- 17:11That's how we talk. You listen to any Shabbat table,
- 17:15any time you hear people talk and schmooze every time they say
- 17:20an opinion. Most people let's turn above
- 17:22that every time they say an opinion.
- 17:24What they're saying, in short, is I'm great.
- 17:28I'm great. I'm great, in other words, and
- 17:31talk about, oh, the weddings are so big.
- 17:33How do people spend on the wedding?
- 17:34What they're saying is I can't afford a wedding, right?
- 17:37This typical people say I can't afford a drawing.
- 17:40I don't understand why people spend on their wedding.
- 17:41They're making me feel small. Oh, everyone's.
- 17:43Just give me an example. Everyone has the the biggest
- 17:45houses who everyone's, you know, vacation driveway or this or
- 17:49that or schools and all these things or camp, all these
- 17:51things. What they're saying in short is,
- 17:54is that they're not part of that.
- 17:56And those who are saying the opposite, saying it's not the
- 17:58biggest deal. What you make is a big deal
- 18:00about wings. Why make it just be about
- 18:01vacation? Why maybe it should be about
- 18:03Sunil. Do I make sure you do what
- 18:05they're saying is that's still me and I don't want to hear
- 18:08bashing. And the truth is this is really
- 18:10where judgement, A judgement really hits its core.
- 18:13If a person's a judgement to person, they do this all day
- 18:16long. If a person is a real legitimate
- 18:18work on person, sure, they make judgements.
- 18:22Still, we all make judgements, but at the same time, they're
- 18:24honest with themselves and they're able to say those people
- 18:27are not terrible. These people are not awesome.
- 18:30It is what it is. Everyone's just trying to get
- 18:33along and go along and move on. And don't bash all the long If
- 18:36you can make a change, call a kabut.
- 18:39If you can't make a change, keep it shut.
- 18:41There's no reason to talk. And that's a whole different
- 18:44approach that's based on the fact that I do not need my ego
- 18:47to be built on bashing you and I.
- 18:51You don't need your ego to be built on bashing me.
- 18:53But if you do, then automatically every view that a
- 18:57person who simple has is a view that says I'm great, they're
- 19:01terrible. That's the whole view.
- 19:02And no matter what they do is wrong and no matter why I do is
- 19:05right. That's how it works.
- 19:07Alright. That's I believe it's very
- 19:08friendly and you see it with the spy as clear as that.
- 19:11Stop by this.
