Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
• 0:07
Speaker 1: What's up, everybody. Welcome to move the sticks, DJ, Bucky Rhett,
• 0:10
Speaker 1: as we are looking back on a pretty eventful Week
• 0:13
Speaker 1: one here boys. Great to see you, Buck. I want
• 0:16
Speaker 1: to start with you first, as as we're going to
• 0:19
Speaker 1: go through a bunch of these games, but before we
• 0:21
Speaker 1: get to the specifics of the game's Rett piggyback on
• 0:23
Speaker 1: this big picture takeaway as by the way you see
• 0:26
Speaker 1: my shirt, I'm trying to stay positive, Buck, So let's
• 0:29
Speaker 1: keep the theme here as positive as we can. But
• 0:31
Speaker 1: would you take away.
• 0:33
Speaker 2: The preseason is a liar when it comes to the
• 0:35
Speaker 2: Rooky quarterbacks. As ready as we think young quarterbacks are,
• 0:39
Speaker 2: when you get to the regular.
• 0:40
Speaker 1: Season, it is night and day from the preseason, and
• 0:43
  Speaker 1: so we.
• 0:43
Speaker 2: Learned a lot about our young quarterbacks going through their
• 0:46
  Speaker 2: first game struggles.
• 0:48
Speaker 3: I think there's still you know, week one, I think
• 0:50
Speaker 3: you could kind of say that same thing, Bucky, like
• 0:52
Speaker 3: for some teams, we're going to see some major growth
• 0:54
Speaker 3: here in week two. I mean I remember watching the
• 0:56
Speaker 3: Jim Harbaugh post game right and when they broke it
• 0:58
Speaker 3: down DJ if forgetting a win with the Raiders. You know,
• 1:01
Speaker 3: biggest growth week one to week two. So how much
• 1:04
Speaker 3: is going to change from what we saw here this weekend,
• 1:07
Speaker 3: I think is one of the biggest things that will
• 1:08
Speaker 3: be kind of focused on here as well. And then overall,
• 1:12
Speaker 3: other takeaway is Panthers still have a lot of work
• 1:15
  Speaker 3: to do.
• 1:16
  Speaker 1: I don't think yeah, that's yeah, we'll get there. We'll
• 1:18
Speaker 1: get there. My my takeaways, Buck, I'm with you on
• 1:22
Speaker 1: kind of the preseason. I think that was reflected in
• 1:24
Speaker 1: some of the tackling. Going through the tape this morning.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: I felt it was a lot of mistackles. That's really
• 1:29
Speaker 1: the way it's been for the last few years. You're
• 1:31
Speaker 1: gonna get into the regular season a little bit, let's
• 1:33
Speaker 1: wait a couple weeks. It'll get better, it'll improve. But
• 1:36
Speaker 1: that was one takeaway. The other one was and we'll
• 1:38
Speaker 1: get into these games. But there's I had this like
• 1:41
Speaker 1: like Jeff Fisher thought, don't ask me why, but like
• 1:45
Speaker 1: a Jeff Fisher, Marty Schottenheimer thought of, you know, everything
• 1:49
Speaker 1: cyclical in this league, and there's still an old school
• 1:52
Speaker 1: like those old Titans teams. Think about the Marty Schottenheimer teams.
• 1:55
Speaker 1: But you played on one of those there's like this,
• 1:57
Speaker 1: you know, be physical, don't screw up, shorten the game,
• 2:01
Speaker 1: save your defense. Like there's still one of those formulas
• 2:03
Speaker 1: that's it still works, like all these years, just watched
• 2:06
Speaker 1: all the high you I just wanted wanted Chariler Stalks
• 2:10
Speaker 1: game I did. I watched that game. There was there
• 2:13
Speaker 1: was the Charger game. There was that game, there was
• 2:16
Speaker 1: a there was even the Bears, like the Bears defense
• 2:19
Speaker 1: and special teams, Like there was kind of like that
• 2:22
Speaker 1: old school kind of grittiness, kind of find your way
• 2:24
Speaker 1: to the finish line that kind of juxtaposed this high
• 2:26
Speaker 1: flying league that I feel like we'd become lately, so
• 2:28
Speaker 1: that those old school names buck those are the ones
• 2:30
Speaker 1: that crept into my mind.
• 2:32
Speaker 2: No, it's funny because having played for Mardy Schottenhammer, he
• 2:34
Speaker 2: would always tell you more games are lost than one.
• 2:37
Speaker 2: If you run the ball, play good defense, and find
• 2:39
Speaker 2: a way to dominate special teams, you're gonna win more
• 2:41
Speaker 2: games than you lose.
• 2:42
Speaker 1: I think it's a terrific regular season formula. You need
• 2:46
Speaker 1: a little more to go.
• 2:48
Speaker 2: From like a regular season champion to a postseason champion,
• 2:52
Speaker 2: but it absolutely can take you to ten, eleven, twelve
• 2:55
Speaker 2: games if you subscribe to death theory.
• 2:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, New England was one of those teams too, right,
• 3:00
  Speaker 1: you know.
• 3:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, und Andre a bunch of sacks and pressure and yeah,
• 3:05
Speaker 3: I mean that was the formula.
• 3:08
Speaker 1: Well, all right, let's let's jump into some of these
• 3:09
Speaker 1: specific games here, Buck, I'm gonna give you the floor
• 3:12
Speaker 1: Rams Detroit, coming off Sunday night. What did you what
• 3:14
Speaker 1: did you see? What did you take away from that one? Well?
• 3:17
Speaker 2: My takeaway for both teams man tough, greedy teams, and
• 3:20
Speaker 2: I just love watching those guys get after it in Detroit.
• 3:23
Speaker 2: I just think it's the grittiness, the competitiveness of this team,
• 3:27
Speaker 2: the fact that they can run the ball with two backs.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: They can get it done with David Montgomery or Jamiir Gibbs.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: And we saw them.
• 3:33
Speaker 2: Really pounded and when they needed to. But I'm gonna
• 3:36
Speaker 2: say this, Jameson Williamson, Jameson Williams showing up to the party,
• 3:42
Speaker 2: runs a double move to blow by j Davis White
• 3:45
Speaker 2: and then makes plays has one hundred yards.
• 3:47
Speaker 1: I mean, this is a team that has all the weapons.
• 3:50
Speaker 2: But what I love about them they have all the
• 3:52
Speaker 2: firepower on the outside, but deep down inside they're an
• 3:55
Speaker 2: old school physical team that can get it done the
• 3:57
Speaker 2: old school way when they need to.
• 3:59
  Speaker 1: You know that.
• 3:59
Speaker 3: I'm glad you brought up the toughness part because I
• 4:01
Speaker 3: think that's something that Sean McVay talked about after the game, right,
• 4:04
Speaker 3: He said, I think we learned a lot about our team,
• 4:06
Speaker 3: both mental toughness and physical toughness. Come back, score ten
• 4:08
Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter, send that thing to overtime. Obviously
• 4:11
Speaker 3: couldn't quite get it done. But then on the flip side, oh,
• 4:13
Speaker 3: Dan Campbell said about Matthew Stafford, well, you better think
• 4:16
Speaker 3: twice about hitting him, because the more you hit him,
• 4:17
  Speaker 3: the bettering cats.
• 4:19
Speaker 4: That is one tough dude right there.
• 4:21
Speaker 3: So I love I mean, I think that Stafford does
• 4:24
Speaker 3: set the tone for some of that toughness with this
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Rams team. I think you see that guy continue to
• 4:28
Speaker 3: get up and make some of those big throws in
• 4:30
Speaker 3: the face of some of that some of that pressure,
• 4:32
Speaker 3: and then you know, you come back to it for
• 4:34
Speaker 3: the Rams. Look, this is a team that ran the
• 4:37
Speaker 3: ball so dang well last year, right, And I think
• 4:39
Speaker 3: that's where you see the offensive line injuries starting to
• 4:42
Speaker 3: take hold a little bit with the Rams.
• 4:44
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 4:44
Speaker 4: A Villa leaves early in the game.
• 4:45
Speaker 3: They were already without Hanstein and so they didn't run
• 4:48
Speaker 3: the ball very well in this game. But Stafford kept
• 4:50
Speaker 3: him minute down the stretch for sure, and then Pooka
• 4:52
Speaker 3: goes down too. So the fact that they're able to,
• 4:55
Speaker 3: you know, kind of continue to find ways to stay
• 4:57
Speaker 3: in this game against an NFC, you know, championship favorite
• 5:01
Speaker 3: in the Detroit Lions, I thought was pretty impressive. And
• 5:04
Speaker 3: I think, you know, one thing they'll go back to
• 5:07
Speaker 3: is their efficiency in the red zone. Just two touchdowns
• 5:09
Speaker 3: on five trips. And obviously the turnover there the Stafford
• 5:12
Speaker 3: interception was a tough one. The turnover on downs down
• 5:15
Speaker 3: there close is a tough one. So they clean that up. Man,
• 5:17
Speaker 3: that's a game they might even just went out, right.
• 5:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, I look at the Lions side of things, I
• 5:23
Speaker 1: feel good about saying they will represent the NFC in
• 5:25
Speaker 1: the Super Bowl because a lot of that was based
• 5:27
Speaker 1: on not what we just what we saw last year
• 5:29
Speaker 1: was it was this is an emerging team, Like there's
• 5:32
Speaker 1: more guys coming up. I feel like it's almost like
• 5:34
Speaker 1: you're watching a baseball season. You're seeing guys get kind
• 5:36
Speaker 1: of called up late in the year to kind of
• 5:37
Speaker 1: help you get over the hump. I feel like the Lions.
• 5:40
Speaker 1: You saw that Buck you mentioned Jamison, like Jameis Williams
• 5:43
Speaker 1: coming in here and really starting to find his niche
• 5:45
Speaker 1: and carve his role. They've got guys on defense. Terry
• 5:49
Speaker 1: Arnold had a bunch of tackles. He was physical. He's
• 5:51
Speaker 1: going to be a big player for them going forward.
• 5:53
Speaker 1: Where they don't need, you know, Aman Ross Saint Brown
• 5:56
Speaker 1: to be Superman. They don't need Jamiir Gibbs to be
• 5:58
Speaker 1: Superman to win games. They have a lot of different
• 6:00
Speaker 1: ways to beat you, and a lot of good young
• 6:02
Speaker 1: emerging players, you know, running especially that offense behind a
• 6:06
Speaker 1: very very good offensive line. They can close out games
• 6:08
Speaker 1: like they have all. They have everything you need the
• 6:10
Speaker 1: formula to be able to win games. Another quick takeaway
• 6:13
Speaker 1: with them, man, I don't know why teams, We've been
• 6:16
Speaker 1: saying this for years, why you don't incorporate more reverses.
• 6:19
Speaker 1: Why don't you incorporate that action even if you're not
• 6:21
Speaker 1: going to give it, it holds the end. It's one
• 6:23
Speaker 1: less guy. You got a block because you got to
• 6:25
Speaker 1: account for him. They get Jameis and Williams on reverse
• 6:28
Speaker 1: for an explosive play Khalif Raymond early in overtime. I
• 6:31
Speaker 1: might even have been their very first play in overtime.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: They get an explosive one on that, so I thought
• 6:36
Speaker 1: Ben Johnson was kind of in his bag a little
• 6:37
Speaker 1: bit with that stuff. The offensive line takeaway there, their
• 6:41
Speaker 1: ability to cut off on the backside is outstanding. You
• 6:44
Speaker 1: think about how physical they are on the front side
• 6:46
Speaker 1: and mauling people backside. They did an excellent job cutting
• 6:49
Speaker 1: off on the on the rams side of things. Yeah,
• 6:52
Speaker 1: it was Stafford for me was the takeaway. Did you
• 6:54
Speaker 1: see Buck how many times they were like in pistol
• 6:57
Speaker 1: and it was pistol play action shots like you know,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: you think about the kind of the big play action
• 7:02
Speaker 1: under center, you know, seven step off play action taking shots.
• 7:05
Speaker 1: They get to it. They just get to it out
• 7:07
Speaker 1: of the pistol, which I thought was kind of fun
• 7:09
Speaker 1: to watch because Stafford can hang out about twelve yards
• 7:12
Speaker 1: back there and just let it rip man.
• 7:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, and lets you know what arm talent can do
• 7:18
Speaker 2: for you when it comes to expanding your passing game,
• 7:21
Speaker 2: and their running attack is really set up everything for
• 7:24
Speaker 2: a long time. But just Matthew Stafford at quarterback, he's
• 7:27
Speaker 2: just a difference maker.
• 7:28
Speaker 1: And it's funny because I have trim minister respect for
• 7:30
  Speaker 1: both guys.
• 7:30
Speaker 2: I love Jery Goff, and I think both guys have
• 7:34
Speaker 2: kind of benefited from the swap. But what Matthew Stafford
• 7:37
Speaker 2: has done to the Rams offense, He's given it a
• 7:39
Speaker 2: different dynamic, not only to drop back passing game, but
• 7:42
Speaker 2: the vertical stretch game that they can do and when
• 7:45
Speaker 2: they get to roll it and when he gets into
• 7:47
Speaker 2: that rhythm where he sees a handful of shots go down,
• 7:49
Speaker 2: I mean, this dude is Look, he's remarkable because there
• 7:52
Speaker 2: are not many guys that can bring what he brings
• 7:54
Speaker 2: to the field as a QB one.
• 7:57
Speaker 1: I know he's aging out and maybe in the twilight
• 7:59
  Speaker 1: of his career.
• 8:00
Speaker 2: Man if i'm Sean McVay, I want to squeeze all
• 8:02
Speaker 2: the juice out of this guy because he was super talented.
• 8:05
Speaker 1: No question. All right, let's get to the second game here,
• 8:08
Speaker 1: and I want to cue up some sound because we're
• 8:09
Speaker 1: going to talk about Dallas and Cleveland, and before we
• 8:13
Speaker 1: get to the performance of the Dallas quarterback, let's get
• 8:16
Speaker 1: to the contract of the Dallas quarterback.
• 8:20
Speaker 5: My confidence in both sides of this that that's something
• 8:23
Speaker 5: would get done, understanding that that they were hammering at it,
• 8:29
Speaker 5: that I had confidence in it, But it really wasn't
• 8:31
Speaker 5: in my mind. For me, it was just about getting
• 8:32
Speaker 5: ready for the Browns. Whether it got done today or
• 8:35
Speaker 5: not wasn't going to change.
• 8:38
  Speaker 1: The way.
• 8:39
Speaker 5: It wasn't going to affect me. Honestly, I've told you
• 8:41
  Speaker 5: guys before, I don't necessarily play. I don't play for
• 8:43
Speaker 5: the money. I think when you focus and you control
• 8:46
Speaker 5: what you can control, things like that just happened. So yeah,
• 8:49
Speaker 5: I found out probably an hour I get where. I mean, honestly,
• 8:53
Speaker 5: probably twenty minutes before it was you know what I mean,
• 8:55
Speaker 5: publicized to everybody else.
• 8:58
Speaker 1: So Ratt, first of all, we'll go into the game here.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: Just thoughts Dak's new deal.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: I mean, look, I think you know you were kind
• 9:06
Speaker 3: of wondering if once the season started, would they have
• 9:08
Speaker 3: to table this thing. Well, it turns out at the
• 9:10
Speaker 3: eleventh hour, or about four hours for kick, the thing
• 9:12
Speaker 3: comes out, and it sounded like he had known it
• 9:14
Speaker 3: was coming for the last couple of days, and look
• 9:17
Speaker 3: played like it played like we expected him to play.
• 9:19
  Speaker 3: I mean, he's been a fantastic quit. I mean, you
• 9:22
Speaker 3: know the way that you know, the prolificness of what
• 9:24
Speaker 3: he did a year ago kind of started right back
• 9:27
Speaker 3: there again in this in this season. So I think
• 9:31
Speaker 3: he has earned that right to be this quarterback for
• 9:33
Speaker 3: this team. I think he makes some big time plays
• 9:36
Speaker 3: for this team. They just got to put it all together.
• 9:37
Speaker 3: And it's not just on him. They got to find
• 9:39
Speaker 3: a way to put it all together in the postseason.
• 9:40
Speaker 3: I got no doubt that they're going to be there
• 9:42
Speaker 3: at the end of the regular season. But what are
• 9:43
Speaker 3: we going to see, you know when it comes crunch time?
• 9:47
  Speaker 3: And look, I don't I don't know that Dak could
• 9:48
Speaker 3: do anymore for this team that he has done over
• 9:51
Speaker 3: the course of his career. So I'd say earned it,
• 9:53
Speaker 3: deserved it, and let's go out and continue to play
• 9:56
  Speaker 3: for it.
• 9:57
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 9:57
Speaker 2: No, I think Dak Prescott's story is he's kind of remarkable.
• 10:00
Speaker 2: Just from a scouting standpoint. The fact that a fourth
• 10:02
Speaker 2: round quarterback has emerged as a QB one for America's
• 10:05
Speaker 2: team is nothing short of remarkable. And when you think
• 10:08
Speaker 2: about the player that he was at missis Stape and
• 10:10
Speaker 2: the player that he's become for the Cowboys, very different.
• 10:14
Speaker 2: The Mississippi State guy was kind of like a one
• 10:17
Speaker 2: man John Wayne type that could put the entire team
• 10:19
Speaker 2: on his back end.
• 10:20
Speaker 1: When you go back and look at the.
• 10:21
Speaker 2: Team, not a lot of pros that he led that
• 10:24
Speaker 2: team to national prominence, and so maybe that speaks to
• 10:26
Speaker 2: his ability to be a franchise guy. But the way
• 10:29
Speaker 2: he carries himself I think is even more important when
• 10:32
Speaker 2: you think about handing the money to him. To me,
• 10:35
Speaker 2: he is the kind of embodiment of what a franchise
• 10:38
Speaker 2: quarterback is supposed to be when he stands behind the podium.
• 10:41
Speaker 1: We can take shots.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: At how he may play the game in those things,
• 10:44
Speaker 2: but in terms of handling himself in that presidential manner
• 10:48
Speaker 2: that we used to talk about when we were scouting quarterbacks,
• 10:50
Speaker 2: Jack Prescott does that.
• 10:52
Speaker 1: And so kudos to him forgetting the big deal.
• 10:54
Speaker 2: He certainly has had to go through it to get it,
• 10:57
Speaker 2: but he's found a way to be the highest paid
• 10:59
Speaker 2: quarterback in the league.
• 11:01
Speaker 1: Yeah, just to wrap that up on the contract, I
• 11:04
Speaker 1: talked to an agent one time and he said that,
• 11:06
Speaker 1: you know, you kind of negotiate the deal and then
• 11:08
Speaker 1: with certain clients I say, okay, then I need the
• 11:10
Speaker 1: extra extra little sugar here for the good night's sleep clause,
• 11:13
Speaker 1: and the way he explained that was like, You're never
• 11:16
Speaker 1: gonna have to worry about this guy. He is a leader.
• 11:19
Speaker 1: He's someone you want to put out in front, you know,
• 11:21
Speaker 1: as a face of your organization. So you got pay
• 11:24
Speaker 1: a little extra for that as well, because I feel
• 11:26
Speaker 1: like with Dak Prescott, you know what you're getting from
• 11:28
Speaker 1: the person each and every day and what he's going
• 11:30
Speaker 1: to bring to that building, what he's going to bring
• 11:31
Speaker 1: to the locker room. So I'm totally comfortable with making
• 11:34
Speaker 1: him the highest paid player. He was the next one up,
• 11:37
  Speaker 1: and I thought, that's you know, that's what he's earned,
• 11:39
Speaker 1: that's what he deserved. It good for him, all r.
• 11:41
Speaker 1: Let's get to the game itself here. As good as
• 11:44
Speaker 1: things were for Dak, the offense, the defense. I know
• 11:46
Speaker 1: you guys will hit on the Cowboy defense, which was
• 11:49
Speaker 1: was excellent, even though I'm wearing the stay Positive shirt.
• 11:52
Speaker 1: I've got to talk about the Deshaun Watson thing and
• 11:55
Speaker 1: going back and watching that and trying to figure out,
• 11:58
Speaker 1: is there one thing I can pinpoint the struggles too there?
• 12:02
Speaker 1: And it turns out it's just a whole host of
• 12:04
Speaker 1: things and it's not all him, it's not all just him.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: While it was not good on his part, let's start
• 12:09
Speaker 1: with his his areas that he needs to improve on.
• 12:12
Speaker 1: First of all, there's some footwork stuff that needs to
• 12:14
Speaker 1: be cleaned up. There's throws that are not on time.
• 12:17
Speaker 1: He's taking extra hitches, extra hops, and that's disrupting the timing,
• 12:22
Speaker 1: the rhythm. It's an impacting the accuracy and the ability
• 12:25
Speaker 1: to complete ball. So let's start right there. Mechanically, another issue,
• 12:28
Speaker 1: he's got into a little bit of a bad habit
• 12:30
Speaker 1: of really sinking. So what do you mean by that, Well,
• 12:33
Speaker 1: when you get to the top of your drop, he's
• 12:36
Speaker 1: not standing tall, he's so low, he's so into his legs.
• 12:39
Speaker 1: He's so down low that now to throw the ball,
• 12:42
Speaker 1: it's not a smooth, easy process. It's it doesn't look natural.
• 12:46
Speaker 1: It's taking too much time. He's got to clean some
• 12:48
Speaker 1: of that stuff up. There's times where he's got greedy,
• 12:51
Speaker 1: trying to push the ball and looking for things down
• 12:53
Speaker 1: the field when he's got underneath options that are open.
• 12:56
Speaker 1: Take the layups right now. Don't get so greedy. So
• 12:58
Speaker 1: those are some things that are very tangible, they're very
• 13:01
Speaker 1: real that Deshaun needs to work on now outside of
• 13:04
Speaker 1: his control. You've got a big drop pretty early in
• 13:07
Speaker 1: this game. You've got a running back missing a pickup.
• 13:10
Speaker 1: He just gets blasted. You've got your main Effetti playing
• 13:13
  Speaker 1: right tackle who it's a little it's a little much
• 13:15
Speaker 1: right now against the guys that they're rushing. So you
• 13:18
Speaker 1: had physical beats. I mean he got hit double digits.
• 13:21
Speaker 1: You know, he was hit repeatedly in this game. So
• 13:24
Speaker 1: there's a lot of other issues to correct around Deshaun.
• 13:28
Speaker 1: But make no mistake about it, Buck, when you're watching him,
• 13:31
Speaker 1: when you're watching this offense, there's no rhythm and there's
• 13:36
Speaker 1: quickly it's quickly becoming evident. There's no confidence either, and
• 13:40
  Speaker 1: that's a that's I'm staying positive. I'm saying some of
• 13:43
Speaker 1: these things are correctable, but the lack of confidence thing
• 13:47
Speaker 1: scares me in a big way.
• 13:50
Speaker 2: Well yeah, Like I mean, DJ, you just don't go
• 13:53
Speaker 2: like almost three years without playing and think that your
• 13:55
Speaker 2: game is going to be the same. And you know
• 13:58
Speaker 2: the thing that you worry about with Deshaun Wison, let
• 14:00
Speaker 2: ever come back and one of the things that I
• 14:03
Speaker 2: recently did and talking about the brown because I thought
• 14:05
Speaker 2: the Browns were going to have.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: An opportunity to be really good this year.
• 14:08
Speaker 2: You go back and look at his years in Houston,
• 14:10
Speaker 2: three time Pro bowler, You go back and look at
• 14:12
Speaker 2: it last year, even though they were four and twelve,
• 14:14
Speaker 2: thirty three touchdowns, seven interceptions, and look, he did it
• 14:18
Speaker 2: in spectacular fashion and the passer rating each of those
• 14:21
Speaker 2: years was well over one hundred. One thing that I've
• 14:23
Speaker 2: always wondered about Deshaun Watson is can he play on time?
• 14:27
Speaker 2: Like that was one of the things that I think
• 14:29
Speaker 2: was a bit of an issue when we evaluated him
• 14:32
Speaker 2: coming out of Clemson. Could he play on time and
• 14:34
Speaker 2: on target when you have to do that? And I
• 14:37
Speaker 2: do believe he's kind of gotten to this bad habit
• 14:40
Speaker 2: of just kind of floating around and then a passing
• 14:43
Speaker 2: game that is really built on a ball getting out,
• 14:45
Speaker 2: players getting to the spot. You need your quarterback to
• 14:48
Speaker 2: hit that last step and the ball has to be
• 14:50
Speaker 2: out because they can't protect it. But more importantly is
• 14:53
Speaker 2: a rhythm to why you're doing those things in terms
• 14:56
Speaker 2: of route up with quarterback drop.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: It has to be together.
• 15:00
Speaker 2: And when it's not, it's just a little clonky and
• 15:02
Speaker 2: wonkey like it's been Yeah.
• 15:04
  Speaker 4: You know, guys.
• 15:05
Speaker 3: I think the negativity around Deshaun some of that is warranted, certainly,
• 15:10
Speaker 3: But I mean you look at the fact that he
• 15:12
Speaker 3: was down both of.
• 15:12
Speaker 4: His tackles as you talked about DJ.
• 15:14
Speaker 3: I mean, get those guys back, get a little bit
• 15:16
Speaker 3: of pressure off him, and then let's see where this
• 15:18
Speaker 3: thing goes. But like, the deep shots were not good,
• 15:21
Speaker 3: oh for seven on some of those deep shots.
• 15:24
Speaker 4: So it throws over twenty yards.
• 15:26
Speaker 3: But I think what you got to do is turn
• 15:27
Speaker 3: around and give a lot of credit to Mike Zimmer's
• 15:29
Speaker 3: defense in Dallas, right, And I think, you know, I
• 15:32
  Speaker 3: think that is.
• 15:33
Speaker 4: A big deal here.
• 15:34
Speaker 3: I mean Michael Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, I mean DeMarcus Lawrence,
• 15:37
Speaker 3: you know, looked like the tank Lawrence of like three
• 15:40
Speaker 3: four years ago and had a couple of sacks in
• 15:42
Speaker 3: this game. And let's let's also credit you know, Mike
• 15:44
Speaker 3: Zimmer and this this Cowboys front office for realizing, all right,
• 15:47
Speaker 3: we're bringing Mike Zimmer, and let's bring in a mouthpiece
• 15:49
Speaker 3: to help this deep defense that has known what Mike
• 15:52
Speaker 3: Zimmer does very well for a long time. That's Eric
• 15:54
Speaker 3: kendricks Well. Again, looked like a player that we saw
• 15:57
Speaker 3: four or five years ago when he was in the
• 15:58
Speaker 3: you know, when we thought he was really Oland is
• 16:00
Speaker 3: one of the best in the league. He gets two
• 16:02
Speaker 3: sacks and a pick, and so I think that helps too,
• 16:04
Speaker 3: and that goes a long way. Looked like a rejuvenated
• 16:07
Speaker 3: player in this defense, and it was kind of like
• 16:10
Speaker 3: an afterthought acquisition, I think, in this offseason. So I
• 16:14
Speaker 3: think all of that together with the scheme they had ready,
• 16:18
Speaker 3: you know, for Deshaun Watson, I mean you look at
• 16:20
Speaker 3: what they did to him on third downs. I don't
• 16:23
Speaker 3: think he ever saw the same type of look the
• 16:25
Speaker 3: same type of coverage either, I mean all over the place,
• 16:27
Speaker 3: all over the board and throwing different things at him,
• 16:30
Speaker 3: you know, which only helps the defense and helps to
• 16:33
Speaker 3: confuse a quarterback that's also dealing with a furious rush
• 16:36
Speaker 3: in front of him.
• 16:36
Speaker 4: So credit to Mike Zimmer in that defense.
• 16:38
Speaker 1: Teach, Yeah, scheme, speed effort. All excellent for the Dallas
• 16:42
Speaker 1: Cowboys and that one a big win for them. Let's
• 16:45
Speaker 1: get to the third one here. This was in I
• 16:47
Speaker 1: think kind of the game of the week coming into it.
• 16:49
Speaker 1: When you looked at the matchup Houston, Indy, two teams
• 16:52
Speaker 1: battling out there in the AFC South Buck, I'll go
• 16:56
Speaker 1: to you first of all. Here your takeaway from a
• 16:58
Speaker 1: big win from the Texans.
• 17:01
Speaker 2: The newbies were as advertised, meaning Joe Mix and Stefan
• 17:05
Speaker 2: Diggs were exactly what the Houston Texans wanted. And even
• 17:09
Speaker 2: though there was a lot of I say, consternation about
• 17:12
Speaker 2: why would they bring these guys in because both guys
• 17:15
Speaker 2: kind of have this loose reputation of being malcontents, you
• 17:18
Speaker 2: can already see how the Houston Texas were going to
• 17:20
Speaker 2: utilize both of them. And Joe Mixon man the fact
• 17:23
Speaker 2: that you gave him thirty carries, he had one hundred
• 17:25
Speaker 2: and fifty nine rushing yards. He is pounding the ball
• 17:29
Speaker 2: between the tackles. It gives them a different look that
• 17:32
Speaker 2: I'm gonna be honest with you, benefilable to Jaguars look
• 17:36
Speaker 2: I'm a little afraid of because this is a physical
• 17:38
Speaker 2: team that is different than the one that played last year.
• 17:41
Speaker 2: And then with Stefan Diggs, there's a lot of conversation
• 17:43
Speaker 2: about could he be not the number one receiver?
• 17:46
Speaker 1: Could he see the number one thing?
• 17:49
Speaker 2: I think what he's done has made them dangerous because
• 17:51
Speaker 2: you have to keep an eye on him down in
• 17:52
Speaker 2: the red zone. He scores two touchdowns. Nico Collins has
• 17:56
Speaker 2: over one hundred yards and Tank Dell is still on
• 17:58
Speaker 2: the other side. Is really hard to match up with
• 18:01
Speaker 2: the Texans on offense because they got a physical running
• 18:03
Speaker 2: game and then they got three unique playmakers on the perimeter.
• 18:09
Speaker 2: Heaven help you trying to figure out which three corners
• 18:11
Speaker 2: matchup with their three guys. It is really problematic.
• 18:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, and you got a quarterback when you got to
• 18:16
Speaker 1: have the guy to have it throws Stroud makes it.
• 18:19
Speaker 1: He puts the ball literally in a mailbox. I mean
• 18:21
Speaker 1: that was ridiculous, ridiculous throw. I want to get. I
• 18:24
Speaker 1: want to get real quick and then I'll get over
• 18:26
Speaker 1: to you rhtt. I know you want to touch on
• 18:28
Speaker 1: the run game and'll get over the Colts but quickly.
• 18:30
Speaker 1: On Houston's defense, Danil Hunter good investment, guys, that was
• 18:34
Speaker 1: a very good investment watching that tape because he still
• 18:38
Speaker 1: has it. He's got a whole bag of dricks, he
• 18:40
Speaker 1: still has juice. He's a feel rusher as well as
• 18:43
Speaker 1: an explosive rusher. So that is a that's been a
• 18:47
Speaker 1: home run sighting looking at that. Derek Barnett another guy
• 18:50
Speaker 1: who Derek Barnett not going to wow you on the Stopwatch,
• 18:54
Speaker 1: is not going to wow you on the stage. But
• 18:55
Speaker 1: some guys just have a knack for being able to
• 18:57
Speaker 1: get pressure and are very instinctive rushers. So they have
• 19:01
Speaker 1: accumulated a nice mix of guys. Obviously you know Will
• 19:04
Speaker 1: Anderson being in that group, but they've got guys that
• 19:06
Speaker 1: not only are talented, but guys that just know how
• 19:08
Speaker 1: to rush, know how to win. And I saw that
• 19:10
Speaker 1: when I when I looked at their group up front.
• 19:12
Speaker 1: Mario Edwards also getting after it a little bit there.
• 19:15
Speaker 1: So that defense for the Houston Texans, Rhett I was
• 19:18
Speaker 1: impressed as well as what they did on the offensive
• 19:20
Speaker 1: side of the ball. Yeah.
• 19:22
Speaker 3: I mean, like you throw in daneil Hunter out there
• 19:24
Speaker 3: with Will Anderson and you know Demko Ryans doesn't have
• 19:27
Speaker 3: to send a ton of extra rushers. I think they
• 19:29
Speaker 3: only blitz two or three times in this game, right,
• 19:31
Speaker 3: so you can generate some pressure with four and then
• 19:34
Speaker 3: play some coverage behind. Now they don't want to give
• 19:36
Speaker 3: up those fifty yard completions anymore. But it wasn't like
• 19:39
Speaker 3: the head guys running free back there some good plays made,
• 19:41
Speaker 3: you know, Alec Pierce went up and made a couple
• 19:43
Speaker 3: of good plays. They got they gotta find a way
• 19:44
Speaker 3: to dig in on those those big explosive plays and coverage.
• 19:49
Speaker 3: But guys, I mean, like the fact that the first
• 19:50
Speaker 3: thing out of my mouth is not about c J.
• 19:52
Speaker 3: Stroud and some of the throws you know he made
• 19:54
Speaker 3: in this game. I think if you watched our show
• 19:56
Speaker 3: last year, is maybe a real telltale sign of what's
• 19:58
Speaker 3: going on right now in Houston. You guys talked about
• 20:01
Speaker 3: the thirty carries, You talked about the newbies like digs
• 20:03
Speaker 3: and mix it. How about Kenyon Green getting back into
• 20:05
Speaker 3: the lineup, the first round player on the offensive line
• 20:08
Speaker 3: that they now got sitting right next to Laramie Tunsul,
• 20:11
Speaker 3: you know, didn't play, you know, is really getting his
• 20:13
Speaker 3: first you know, significant real playing time here in a
• 20:16
Speaker 3: long time. And his physicality in the run game I
• 20:19
Speaker 3: thought was apparent. They had six explosive runs in this thing,
• 20:21
Speaker 3: and he was a key piece of just about every
• 20:23
Speaker 3: single one of them. I mean, you want to talk
• 20:25
Speaker 3: about stunning with physicality some of these linebackers on the
• 20:27
Speaker 3: second level. I mean, and look again, this comes back
• 20:31
Speaker 3: to GM coaching staff understanding you know where they want
• 20:36
Speaker 3: to attack, how they want to attack. Joe Mixon to
• 20:38
Speaker 3: come in and run. This outside zone scheme was the
• 20:41
Speaker 3: perfect fit his vision on some of these plays, finding
• 20:44
Speaker 3: a way to create some of those creases, and then
• 20:47
Speaker 3: the explosive ability to burst through was just apparent. And
• 20:50
Speaker 3: then the commitment to the run game was awesome, because
• 20:53
Speaker 3: I mean, if I got CJ. Stroud back there, I'm
• 20:56
Speaker 3: tempted to throw the ball fifty times a game. But
• 20:58
Speaker 3: the fact that they were able to hand that off
• 21:00
Speaker 3: the Joe Mixon successfully for thirty times shows you just
• 21:04
Speaker 3: how difficult this offense is going to be to deal
• 21:06
  Speaker 3: with this year.
• 21:08
Speaker 1: Yeah, let's put a bow on them because they I
• 21:10
Speaker 1: would put them in the same boat as what we
• 21:12
Speaker 1: talked about earlier with Detroit. These teams are very young,
• 21:15
Speaker 1: they're very talented, and through one week we can see
• 21:17
Speaker 1: the additions they've made and the next steps that those
• 21:20
Speaker 1: two squads are taking. By the way, Anthony Richardson that throw,
• 21:24
Speaker 1: that throw needs to be NFL film sized, which means
• 21:28
Speaker 1: it needs to be slow motion. Zoom in on the
• 21:31
Speaker 1: ball and just watch that thing turn over and look
• 21:34
Speaker 1: at how far he chucked that thing. Buck you know,
• 21:38
Speaker 1: in terms of just the talent, and I think you're
• 21:40
Speaker 1: seeing already just in this one little snapshot. You're seeing
• 21:45
Speaker 1: the handful of games he got last year, a little
• 21:47
Speaker 1: bit of experience for Anthony Richardson. The talent is next
• 21:50
Speaker 1: level freaky stuff. And I think you're going to see
• 21:53
Speaker 1: this dude just get better and better and better.
• 21:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, DJ, Like, if he does it, man, he's going
• 21:58
Speaker 2: to kind of break the mold of what we think
• 22:00
Speaker 2: when it comes to quarterbacks. Like the fact that he's
• 22:02
Speaker 2: only played since high school. Prior to this game, he
• 22:05
Speaker 2: had only had seventeen stars since he left high school.
• 22:08
Speaker 2: The fact that we're talking about a guy who is
• 22:10
Speaker 2: really a freak athlete that they are making into a quarterback.
• 22:15
Speaker 2: If they pull this off, it changes everything when it
• 22:18
Speaker 2: comes to this out of the evaluation. It is part
• 22:20
Speaker 2: of the reason why maybe the New England Pages drafted
• 22:22
Speaker 2: a guy like Joe Milton, even though his game is
• 22:26
Speaker 2: not as refined. You're like, hey, give me the trace
• 22:28
Speaker 2: and we can figure it out.
• 22:30
  Speaker 1: Anthony Britton.
• 22:31
Speaker 2: Anthony Britton is a nice science lab experiment, because if
• 22:34
Speaker 2: it works for him, it's going to work for some
• 22:36
Speaker 2: others down the road.
• 22:37
Speaker 1: I think we'll see these teams again square off one
• 22:40
Speaker 1: more time this year, and I look, we'll see that,
• 22:42
Speaker 1: you know, with the Jacks here just a moment, but
• 22:45
Speaker 1: this could be it right here. These two teams are
• 22:48
Speaker 1: very evenly matched. It's going to be a fun race
• 22:50
Speaker 1: in the AFC South. All right, Buckets, time to talk
• 22:58
Speaker 1: about the two games we were at here. Let's get
• 23:00
Speaker 1: to your Jags Dolphins game. I'll be honest, I was
• 23:02
Speaker 1: following the score in the press box at so Far
• 23:05
Speaker 1: and I thought I thought the Jags were in business,
• 23:08
Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, I looked up and it
• 23:10
Speaker 1: got away from them.
• 23:11
  Speaker 5: There.
• 23:11
Speaker 1: What was your what was your takeaway being in the stadium?
• 23:14
  Speaker 1: Takeaway one?
• 23:16
Speaker 2: The Miami Dolphins are as fast as team as I've
• 23:18
Speaker 2: ever seen up close in person.
• 23:21
  Speaker 1: DJ.
• 23:21
Speaker 2: They are the NFL's version of the old school Golden
• 23:26
Speaker 2: State Warriors in terms of like the uniqueness of their
• 23:29
Speaker 2: style of play with the personnel that they had, Like
• 23:31
Speaker 2: it is one thing where we always kind of loosely
• 23:33
Speaker 2: throw out like, hey, this is a track team, YadA.
• 23:35
  Speaker 1: YadA, YadA.
• 23:36
Speaker 2: But DJ, they are a track team that almost plays
• 23:39
Speaker 2: a high school version of football. It is screens, sweeps,
• 23:44
Speaker 2: and shots. That's what you get when you did with
• 23:46
Speaker 2: the Miami Dolphins. And at one point on the board, Man,
• 23:50
Speaker 2: they put on the board like, oh two, a tone
• 23:52
Speaker 2: of lower is thrown for well over three hundred yards
• 23:54
Speaker 2: and I felt like two hundred and eighty of them
• 23:56
Speaker 2: where yards have to catch the fact that you have
• 23:59
Speaker 2: to tackle the these guys in space. They not only
• 24:02
Speaker 2: challenge your athleticism, but they challenge your fundamentals. And I
• 24:06
Speaker 2: now understand why it's so important for them to get
• 24:09
Speaker 2: a home game or multiple home games in the playoffs.
• 24:12
Speaker 2: If they play at home in perfect conditions, Man, DJ,
• 24:17
Speaker 2: it is a very difficult team to deal with. As
• 24:21
Speaker 2: it relates to the game, the Jaguars were one. I
• 24:24
Speaker 2: was surprised. The Jaguars have been playing Mandeman the entire preseason,
• 24:27
Speaker 2: so I was like, are they really gonna play Mandaman
• 24:30
  Speaker 2: against the Dolphins?
• 24:30
Speaker 1: And they did so.
• 24:31
Speaker 2: They stayed true to form and for the most part,
• 24:35
Speaker 2: it was fine. But here's the thing about speed. It
• 24:37
Speaker 2: only takes one mess up for the game to flip.
• 24:41
Speaker 2: They were dominating the game. It was seventeen to seven.
• 24:43
Speaker 2: They're on their way to go score it's gonna be
• 24:45
Speaker 2: twenty four to seven Travis Ncy and fumbles in the
• 24:48
Speaker 2: back of the end zone DJ.
• 24:49
Speaker 1: Much like a high school game. What happens after sudden
• 24:52
  Speaker 1: change shot?
• 24:54
Speaker 2: They throw an eighty yard bomb that looked like we
• 24:57
  Speaker 2: were playing Madden.
• 24:59
Speaker 1: I mean, I'm looking like, there's no way, Tyreek kill,
• 25:02
Speaker 1: let's go track that down. He can't track that down.
• 25:04
Speaker 1: He's coming from one number all the way across the
• 25:07
Speaker 1: field to the other number. DJ.
• 25:08
Speaker 2: He catches it the strit and from then on it
• 25:11
Speaker 2: was like Steph Curry whipping the crowd into a frenzy
• 25:14
  Speaker 2: in the.
• 25:14
  Speaker 1: Old Oracle Arena.
• 25:16
Speaker 2: It is the same thing that happened, because after that
• 25:19
Speaker 2: the stadium got jumping, and their defense and offense just
• 25:22
Speaker 2: came to life. The impact of a playmaker like Tyreek Hiell,
• 25:26
Speaker 2: it goes beyond what he does for the offense. Everyone
• 25:30
Speaker 2: pays the price of admission to see him make an
• 25:33
  Speaker 2: explosive play.
• 25:34
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 25:34
Speaker 3: I was just gonna say, Man, that was a huge
• 25:37
Speaker 3: turning point in the game, right, I mean, that's that
• 25:39
Speaker 3: is a fourteen point swing. Etn going into score to
• 25:42
Speaker 3: make it a two score advantage, and then it flips
• 25:46
Speaker 3: on its head. And now the Dolphins are often literally
• 25:49
  Speaker 3: running by the.
• 25:50
Speaker 4: Way on an adyr catch.
• 25:51
Speaker 3: I was like, all right, he caught it, but ninety
• 25:54
Speaker 3: nine percent of the players in the league do get
• 25:55
Speaker 3: hawked down at that pain.
• 25:57
Speaker 4: But the fact that he was able.
• 25:58
Speaker 3: To turn the corner with about that much space between
• 26:02
Speaker 3: the defenders and the sideline was incredible. I've never seen
• 26:05
Speaker 3: anything like that on the sideline like that, So that
• 26:07
Speaker 3: was that was pretty special. The thing I'll say, you
• 26:10
Speaker 3: know in this game for the Dolphins was Jalen Phillips
• 26:14
Speaker 3: is back. Like the way that he gets after it
• 26:16
Speaker 3: off the edge right now coming off that injury was impressive.
• 26:18
Speaker 4: It's an excellent pressure. He got a sack on another
• 26:21
Speaker 4: play he was beating up.
• 26:22
Speaker 3: I was at Cam Robinson on on the right side,
• 26:24
Speaker 3: Kalaias Campbell getting in on the action there as you
• 26:26
Speaker 3: see it. So the other thing that I thought was,
• 26:29
Speaker 3: you know, where where did the Jaguars, you know, offense go,
• 26:31
Speaker 3: Where did the play calling go on third down? Didn't
• 26:33
Speaker 3: convert a single third down in the second half, didn't
• 26:36
Speaker 3: have a completion on third down in the second half,
• 26:38
Speaker 3: So extending drives became very difficult, and I think part
• 26:42
Speaker 3: of it you got to give credit again to the
• 26:43
Speaker 3: Dolphins defense. They did not show the same look or
• 26:46
Speaker 3: run the same coverage on any of those third downs
• 26:48
Speaker 3: that the Jaguars had, So we were always getting different
• 26:50
Speaker 3: looks and just there was not an adjustment made to
• 26:55
Speaker 3: deal with the way that they were getting attacked, you
• 26:59
Speaker 3: know from a you know, in a Jaguars offensive perspective there.
• 27:02
Speaker 1: So got to figure that out here down the stretch. Yeah,
• 27:05
Speaker 1: I'll pick you back on both your points here. Explosive
• 27:07
Speaker 1: plays when you have an eighty yard catch from Tyreek Hill,
• 27:11
Speaker 1: a sixty three yard catch from Jalen Waddle, in a
• 27:13
Speaker 1: thirty nine yard catch from a Chan like like, holy cow,
• 27:17
  Speaker 1: man like these it's it's literally it's that scene. I
• 27:20
Speaker 1: always go back to it, but it just reminds me
• 27:22
Speaker 1: every time I see this stuff. It reminds me of
• 27:26
Speaker 1: Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the guys just wielding
• 27:29
Speaker 1: the sword and doing all that, and he just kind
• 27:31
Speaker 1: of rolls his eyes, pulls out his gun and then
• 27:33
Speaker 1: like the fight's over, like there no need for a
• 27:35
Speaker 1: prolonged battle here, Like you're literally bring a knife to
• 27:38
Speaker 1: a gunfight in that regard, So the explosives, that's who
• 27:42
Speaker 1: the Miami Dolphins are, and then I went and watched
• 27:44
Speaker 1: all their pass rush stuff. So Jalen Phillips looks like
• 27:47
Speaker 1: he could be someone who could lead the league in sacks.
• 27:50
Speaker 1: Like that's how good he looks with every every trick
• 27:53
Speaker 1: in his bag. He can combine moves, he can win
• 27:55
Speaker 1: with speed, he can turn the corner, he can They
• 27:57
Speaker 1: tried to block him with a tight end. God bless him.
• 28:00
Speaker 1: I didn't go well. So he was outstanding. And then
• 28:03
Speaker 1: you also look Chop Robinson got a chance to see
• 28:05
Speaker 1: him the speed to power that was there. Rhett, you know,
• 28:09
Speaker 1: touched on Kalais he was unblocked on his but Ogba
• 28:12
Speaker 1: got some heat, Siler got back there. So they've got
• 28:17
Speaker 1: a pretty good front that they can throw at you
• 28:18
Speaker 1: right now with Phillips kind of being the headliner there.
• 28:21
Speaker 1: But that was that was a good win for the
• 28:23
Speaker 1: Miami Dolphins against the Jags team that I thought. You know,
• 28:26
Speaker 1: they matched up from a physical standpoint, no question, But Buck,
• 28:28
Speaker 1: you hit it on the head, you know, one place
• 28:31
Speaker 1: swing momentum shifted. And then once that happens, once that
• 28:35
Speaker 1: car got into overdrive, man, it's tough to slow that
• 28:37
  Speaker 1: thing down.
• 28:39
Speaker 2: It is, And I got to say he was a
• 28:40
Speaker 2: hundred degrees hundred degrees plus on the field, and what
• 28:43
Speaker 2: the Jaguars were doing, they were rolling people in and
• 28:45
Speaker 2: out like it reminded me of watching Oregon doing the
• 28:47
Speaker 2: Chip Kelly era when they were having hockey line shifts
• 28:50
Speaker 2: and pulling everybody in. What happened is the cumulative effect
• 28:54
Speaker 2: of chasing down those rabbits.
• 28:56
Speaker 1: I mean, like after a while, man, you just wear out.
• 28:59
Speaker 2: And in the fourth when the Miami Dolphins got it going,
• 29:01
Speaker 2: I mean they could have their way just because of
• 29:04
Speaker 2: I would say the cumulative of fatigue of chasing those
• 29:07
Speaker 2: guys all over the field. And even though it's funny
• 29:10
Speaker 2: their offense is really horizontal with the occasional vertical shots,
• 29:14
Speaker 2: I mean, they just test the tackling. You have to
• 29:17
Speaker 2: be a great tackling team to deal with them. And
• 29:19
Speaker 2: I look, I feel like the Jaguars played an a
• 29:21
Speaker 2: plus game for the most part, in particularly on defense.
• 29:25
Speaker 2: I can only imagine when that Dolphins team gets in
• 29:27
Speaker 2: rhythm and they add some more pieces of the puzzle,
• 29:29
Speaker 2: it'd be a very very difficult team to deal with.
• 29:32
Speaker 1: No doubt. Let's get to the next game here. Game
• 29:35
Speaker 1: I was at Jim Harbaugh's debut is a Chargers head
• 29:38
Speaker 1: coach and ugly first half with the Raiders. It is
• 29:41
Speaker 1: a seven to six ball game. And then next thing
• 29:43
Speaker 1: you know, the Chargers come out in the second half
• 29:45
Speaker 1: and all those ones and twos, you know, yard runs,
• 29:48
Speaker 1: they can't get first downs, can't convert. All of a sudden,
• 29:51
Speaker 1: you're popping a couple of those runs. JK. Dobbins pops
• 29:54
Speaker 1: two of them. Then they get in the red zone.
• 29:56
Speaker 1: You need Herbert on a big down to be able
• 29:57
Speaker 1: to make a play. He hits Lad McConkie for a touchdown.
• 30:00
Speaker 1: The defense who is rested. You know, that's one of
• 30:02
Speaker 1: those things when you're running the ball, you know, when
• 30:04
Speaker 1: you're not being as successful, you're shortening the game. You're
• 30:07
Speaker 1: giving your defense a rest. And Mac and Bosa were
• 30:11
Speaker 1: dominant on that side of the ball. The whole defense
• 30:14
Speaker 1: was outstanding that poona Ford had an interception late, but
• 30:17
Speaker 1: he was all over the field, very active, big time
• 30:20
Speaker 1: from him. Joe Alt and I was talking to Baldy
• 30:24
Speaker 1: this morning about it. I'm like that, dude, you got
• 30:25
Speaker 1: to watch this what he did with Max Crosby, because
• 30:28
Speaker 1: Max Crosby obviously is as good as it gets and
• 30:30
Speaker 1: Joe Allt more than held his own there his debut
• 30:34
Speaker 1: for them to trust him and leave him one on one,
• 30:36
Speaker 1: that was impressive. But you know, overall, big picture, I
• 30:40
Speaker 1: go back to what I said at the top, which
• 30:41
Speaker 1: is there is a formula and not a lot of
• 30:44
Speaker 1: people want to do it. But I was reminded that
• 30:45
Speaker 1: it's felt like a Marty Schottenheimer era Chargers team buck
• 30:49
Speaker 1: where it was we are going to run the ball.
• 30:51
Speaker 1: We're okay with field goals and punts. We're going to
• 30:53
Speaker 1: play field position. We're going to make you drive the
• 30:55
Speaker 1: length of the field. We're not we're going to give
• 30:57
Speaker 1: you nothing. We're not giving you anything, and when you
• 30:59
Speaker 1: screw up, we're going to cash it in. And that's
• 31:01
Speaker 1: a formula that literally goes back to the man you
• 31:03
Speaker 1: played for, and it still works to this day.
• 31:08
Speaker 2: So I remember our conversations a long time with Ladanian Thomason,
• 31:11
Speaker 2: and I would always talk to him about the Marty
• 31:13
Speaker 2: Shathaim error with the Charge and he said, man, if
• 31:15
Speaker 2: Marty had hung around it, they eventually would have knocked
• 31:17
Speaker 2: the door down. He just talked about the physicality and
• 31:20
Speaker 2: the toughness and running power over and over and over again,
• 31:23
Speaker 2: and the confidence that comes from knowing they know exactly
• 31:26
Speaker 2: what we're doing and they can't stop it. And you
• 31:30
Speaker 2: already can sense that the Chargers are emboldened by I
• 31:33
Speaker 2: would say harbor O's arrogance and stubbornness when it comes
• 31:38
Speaker 2: to we're running the football. Yes, I have one of
• 31:40
Speaker 2: the best quarterbacks in the league, but he is a
• 31:42
Speaker 2: compliment to how we want to play in DJ. I
• 31:45
Speaker 2: just think the way they were able to wear the
• 31:47
Speaker 2: Raiders down in the second half, and how he talked
• 31:50
Speaker 2: to the team after the game about improvement and physicality
• 31:54
Speaker 2: and toughness. Man, they are all then drinking the kool aid.
• 31:58
Speaker 2: It's going to be a very very interesting run. When
• 32:00
Speaker 2: we watched the Charges this season, I.
• 32:03
Speaker 3: Mean, the dichotomy of style I think is just so different.
• 32:07
Speaker 3: I mean, it's just it's so apparent, I should say DJ.
• 32:09
Speaker 3: I mean, like you think of JK. Dobbins going for
• 32:12
Speaker 3: one hundred and thirty five yards, which was, by by
• 32:14
Speaker 3: the way, the second best game of his entire career,
• 32:16
Speaker 3: although we haven't seen a lot of those games in
• 32:18
Speaker 3: the last couple of years due to the injuries.
• 32:20
Speaker 4: What the Chargers player last year with a rushing performance
• 32:23
Speaker 4: of over one hundred and twenty five.
• 32:25
Speaker 3: Yards, So like it's already taking shape, like you we
• 32:29
Speaker 3: talked about it, and we're now seeing it, and now
• 32:31
Speaker 3: it's going to be up the defenses as to whether
• 32:33
Speaker 3: they can stop it when it comes to Harball and
• 32:35
  Speaker 3: Roman in.
• 32:36
  Speaker 4: This physical attack.
• 32:37
Speaker 3: The thing that I'll go to here, just from the
• 32:39
Speaker 3: Raiders point of view, I was really intrigued to see
• 32:41
Speaker 3: what what brought Bauers was going to look like, how
• 32:43
Speaker 3: they're going to use him. I think he basically split
• 32:45
Speaker 3: his time DJ and correct me if I'm wrong if
• 32:47
Speaker 3: you saw it differently, but kind of as a you know,
• 32:50
Speaker 3: attached inline type of player and then you know kind
• 32:53
Speaker 3: of split is more of a slot receiver type of player.
• 32:56
Speaker 3: And they were moving him all over the place. I think,
• 32:58
Speaker 3: I want to say almost every play you saw him
• 33:01
Speaker 3: in motion, well in a lot of different ways.
• 33:03
  Speaker 1: Right.
• 33:03
Speaker 3: They were using him at the point of attack, you know,
• 33:04
Speaker 3: coming in on motion and some of the run game.
• 33:06
Speaker 4: Stuff there that was that was useful.
• 33:08
Speaker 3: They were using him to chip as much as he
• 33:10
Speaker 3: could and can then kind of get out into the
• 33:11
Speaker 3: routes on delay type routes. But the thing that I
• 33:14
Speaker 3: didn't see that I really wanted to see, was him
• 33:16
Speaker 3: getting the ball with the opportunity to really make some
• 33:19
Speaker 3: moves with the ball in his hands, right run after
• 33:21
Speaker 3: the catch, because that's the stuff that we love seeing
• 33:24
Speaker 3: at George. It's a little bittle more difficult to generate
• 33:26
Speaker 3: that type of attack. I get it in the league
• 33:29
Speaker 3: with the speed and athleticism of the players here, but
• 33:31
Speaker 3: I just didn't get to see him kind of turn
• 33:33
Speaker 3: on that running back mode right a bunch in this game.
• 33:35
Speaker 3: His short hands, his strong hands. Though, I think we're
• 33:37
Speaker 3: very beneficial to Gardner Minshew here. I mean, you know,
• 33:40
Speaker 3: three of his six catches, you know, went for first
• 33:42
Speaker 3: downs at the sticks.
• 33:43
Speaker 4: So I'll be curious to see how that evolution moves forward.
• 33:47
Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to give you to wrap it up
• 33:49
Speaker 1: there on this game. I said when I went to
• 33:52
Speaker 1: training camp, and I got so much grief for this,
• 33:54
Speaker 1: but I said, I know, and DeVante Adams and what
• 33:56
Speaker 1: he's accomplished in his career, Rock Bowers is going to
• 33:59
Speaker 1: be the best player on this offense. And seeing it
• 34:01
Speaker 1: out there live and in person, and I'm seeing a
• 34:03
Speaker 1: team that's offensively challenged, you know, in the quarterback situation
• 34:07
Speaker 1: is not great. I came away from that and this
• 34:10
Speaker 1: was my takeaway, free, free, free of charge. I'll put
• 34:12
Speaker 1: a bow on this. But here's my one recommendation to
• 34:15
Speaker 1: the Las Vegas Raiders. You need a personnel group with
• 34:19
Speaker 1: no running backs. You're gonna go out there and you're
• 34:22
Speaker 1: gonna have one tight end and you're gonna have four
• 34:24
Speaker 1: wide outs and you're gonna use brock Bauers. You're gonna
• 34:27
Speaker 1: see what looks you get. You can literally put him
• 34:29
Speaker 1: in the backfield. You want to see him run after
• 34:30
Speaker 1: the catch, Well, I'm gonna toss it to him. I'm
• 34:32
Speaker 1: gonna hand it to him. I'm gonna give him a
• 34:34
Speaker 1: reverse like this offense is gonna need him to be
• 34:38
Speaker 1: the focal point and in a big way that he
• 34:40
Speaker 1: cannot have enough touches because they just don't have guys
• 34:43
Speaker 1: that can that can really make plays, and he is
• 34:45
Speaker 1: their best offensive player. And I say that with total
• 34:48
Speaker 1: respect for for what DeVante Adams is accomplished in his career.
• 34:52
Speaker 1: They're gonna have to get very creative to score points.
• 34:54
Speaker 1: They're just gonna be a little bit challenged there. So
• 34:56
Speaker 1: that's my bow, that's my free advice to the Las
• 34:59
Speaker 1: Vegas Raiders. All right, right, let's jump to some of
• 35:02
Speaker 1: these rookiy quarterbacks. Here. I'll start first of all here Chicago.
• 35:06
Speaker 1: We'll work top top of the list. Here at Caleb
• 35:08
Speaker 1: Williams first overall. Pick. The stat sheet doesn't look great.
• 35:11
Speaker 1: You see it, fourteen for twenty nine, doesn't even throw
• 35:14
Speaker 1: for one hundred yards. One of those deals. When you
• 35:17
Speaker 1: see the numbers and you're working another game, you're like,
• 35:20
Speaker 1: oh boy, this is going to be a tough watch.
• 35:23
Speaker 1: And then I studied it. I was like, actually, I
• 35:24
Speaker 1: took a lot of good out of that, including the
• 35:26
Speaker 1: throw you're looking at right here on a boot where
• 35:27
Speaker 1: he puts the ball right on the money. Look, there
• 35:31
Speaker 1: was on time throws which I love seeing. There was
• 35:35
Speaker 1: a touchdown that was dropped by Keenan Allen that was
• 35:37
Speaker 1: a perfect throw on the pylon on a quick little out.
• 35:40
Speaker 1: You see him scramble for a first down on a
• 35:43
Speaker 1: third and long, which was a nice addition to this offense.
• 35:47
Speaker 1: So I can pull out a lot of those things
• 35:48
Speaker 1: and be very encouraged. Now him and Keenan all we
• 35:50
Speaker 1: are not on the same page on some of these
• 35:52
Speaker 1: option routes, which Keenan is one of the more unique.
• 35:55
Speaker 1: I guess he is just unique as a route runner
• 35:58
Speaker 1: in terms of setting guys up and trying to get
• 36:00
Speaker 1: a feel from it. I think that's going to take
• 36:02
Speaker 1: a minute for those guys to sync up and be
• 36:04
Speaker 1: on the same page. So there's some things to work
• 36:07
Speaker 1: on there. There's a couple of deep shots where it
• 36:10
Speaker 1: was overthrown a little bit, and I'm not going to
• 36:12
Speaker 1: make excuses for him. Look, it is called the Windy City,
• 36:15
Speaker 1: that is the nickname, so there's gonna be some adjustments there.
• 36:19
Speaker 1: Maybe a little bit too much air on the ball.
• 36:21
Speaker 1: But then you know from other things that I think
• 36:23
Speaker 1: he does need to work on first and foremost is
• 36:25
Speaker 1: just finding lanes. There's too many tip balls. He's not
• 36:29
Speaker 1: the tallest guy in the world, and if you study
• 36:31
Speaker 1: the guys like Drew Brees who played forever in this league,
• 36:34
Speaker 1: you know, not being real tall, there's a movement within
• 36:37
Speaker 1: the pocket, as Andy Reid used to always say when
• 36:39
Speaker 1: I was around, and we throw between buildings, not overbuildings.
• 36:42
Speaker 1: So that's why size isn't as important. So he's got
• 36:45
Speaker 1: to work on that a little bit.
• 36:47
Speaker 3: Yeah, three batted passes in this game and like that
• 36:50
Speaker 3: number may seem like low in general to you know.
• 36:54
Speaker 1: Sevent team for twenty nine looks it's a lot better
• 36:57
Speaker 1: than fourteen for twenty nine.
• 36:58
Speaker 4: Exactly right, exactly right.
• 37:00
Speaker 3: So if those get completed, you know, maybe it does
• 37:03
Speaker 3: have a different feel.
• 37:04
Speaker 4: But yeah, you know, I go back to, you know,
• 37:07
  Speaker 4: part of this.
• 37:08
Speaker 3: I think you gotta also give a little bit of
• 37:09
Speaker 3: credit to the Titans defense here, you know, and they're
• 37:12
Speaker 3: good at sweat up there, right, you know, Jeff Simmons,
• 37:15
Speaker 3: Errol Landry coming off the edge, like that's that's where
• 37:18
Speaker 3: this team is built to, you know, have some success.
• 37:21
Speaker 3: And I think part of what we saw from Kayleb was,
• 37:23
Speaker 3: you know, like they weren't able to run the ball
• 37:25
Speaker 3: at all. I mean they tried, I think six different
• 37:27
Speaker 3: ball carriers. DeAndre Swift was leading the way, but he
• 37:30
Speaker 3: ends up with just thirty yards you know, on the
• 37:32
Speaker 3: day on ten carries. So I think they've got some
• 37:34
Speaker 3: work to do there up front to try to figure
• 37:36
Speaker 3: out you know, defenses that that are pretty stout upfront,
• 37:39
  Speaker 3: and they will.
• 37:40
Speaker 4: But I think overall this is really good news, Like.
• 37:42
Speaker 3: You're giving us, you know, the positive take on a
• 37:45
Speaker 3: less than productive stat performance for Caleb Williams right, because
• 37:49
Speaker 3: there is some hidden stuff that was good. And I
• 37:51
Speaker 3: think ultimately they win the game and Caleb Williams doesn't
• 37:54
Speaker 3: throw for one hundred yards. I think that paints a
• 37:57
Speaker 3: picture of the evolution under Matty eberflu is better than
• 37:59
Speaker 3: any right, you get a special team's block punt return
• 38:02
Speaker 3: for a score. You block a punt, you're gonna win
• 38:05
Speaker 3: the game more often than not. You return it for
• 38:07
Speaker 3: a touchdown, that percentage goes way up, right, and then
• 38:09
Speaker 3: on defense you're able to get the pick six. I
• 38:12
Speaker 3: think when you compare these two quarterbacks, Will Levis, sure
• 38:15
Speaker 3: his first season is QB one, but he's got more
• 38:18
Speaker 3: experience than Caleb Williams, and he made throws that you'd see,
• 38:21
  Speaker 3: you'd you'd hope a rookie doesn't make it, you know,
• 38:24
Speaker 3: and Caleb didn't do that in this game, right, didn't
• 38:27
Speaker 3: really hurt them that way. So all in all, I
• 38:31
Speaker 3: feel pretty good about this. If I'm the Bears. If
• 38:33
Speaker 3: on the Titans, you know, Brian Callahan and Will Levis
• 38:37
Speaker 3: got to get together and make sure that those throws
• 38:39
Speaker 3: aren't there, and you protect the ball a little bit more.
• 38:41
Speaker 3: You're in a much better spot to win this game
• 38:43
Speaker 3: on the road in Week one.
• 38:45
Speaker 1: No. Absolutely. By the way, Sweat, you mentioned him defense
• 38:48
Speaker 1: for the Titans rookie Texas. Really good performance from him,
• 38:51
Speaker 1: was encouraged by what I saw at his size to
• 38:53
Speaker 1: be as disruptive as he was as impressive. All right,
• 38:56
Speaker 1: let's get to the other two rookie quarterbacks here. Let's
• 38:59
Speaker 1: start Tampa Washington. So that's a tough ask for Jadan
• 39:02
Speaker 1: Daniels to go up against that Bucks defense. Still found
• 39:05
Speaker 1: a way to make plays. Of all the rookies definitely
• 39:07
Speaker 1: look the best on paper, and I think what he
• 39:09
Speaker 1: did with his legs probably was what stood out the most.
• 39:13
Speaker 3: Sixteen carries eighty eight yards and got into the end
• 39:15
Speaker 3: zone a couple of times. And yeah, I get it.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: Some of that came, you know, a little bit later,
• 39:19
Speaker 3: right when the game felt like, you know, the Bucks
• 39:21
Speaker 3: were kind of controlling it and dominating it, and they
• 39:23
Speaker 3: were really from start to finish in this game, which
• 39:26
Speaker 3: was pretty impressive. But yeah, I think there's a lot
• 39:29
Speaker 3: of optimism on what Jayden Daniels can be moving forward.
• 39:33
Speaker 3: You know, like, look again, I don't think we expect
• 39:35
Speaker 3: Dan Quinn to have a defense that gives up thirty
• 39:37
Speaker 3: seven points every week and to have a defense that is,
• 39:41
Speaker 3: you know, outmatched in that way. So I feel pretty
• 39:44
Speaker 3: good about them figuring that out. Whether that's you know,
• 39:47
Speaker 3: middle towards the end of this year, or whether that's
• 39:48
Speaker 3: even going into next year right and finding you know,
• 39:51
Speaker 3: the players that fit this team. But you know, Jayden again,
• 39:57
Speaker 3: I feel like that's a performance that gives you some
• 39:59
Speaker 3: optimism here moving forward that even if this offensive line
• 40:02
Speaker 3: isn't up to it weekend and week out, he's going
• 40:05
Speaker 3: to find a way to make some plays, extend some plays.
• 40:07
Speaker 4: I'd like to see him get you know, some of
• 40:09
Speaker 4: their playmakers really going.
• 40:10
Speaker 3: I mean if Terry McLaurin having two catches in this
• 40:13
Speaker 3: game is not how.
• 40:13
Speaker 4: You're going to win football games.
• 40:15
Speaker 3: You know, Austin Eckler was the leading receiver, and look,
• 40:18
Speaker 3: we know the two running backs is the leading receivers.
• 40:21
Speaker 3: I think that paints a picture of what this thing
• 40:22
Speaker 3: looked like downfield. For Jade Daniels in this.
• 40:24
Speaker 1: Game, I just knew. I don't think they thought they
• 40:26
Speaker 1: could run the ball in this game, you know, with
• 40:28
Speaker 1: their backs when you look at just the touches, I mean,
• 40:30
Speaker 1: the running backs combined for fourteen touches on the ground
• 40:34
Speaker 1: fourteen carries, and Jayden has sixteen. So they just didn't
• 40:37
Speaker 1: think they could run into the teeth of this defense.
• 40:39
Speaker 1: And that's one of the things I've said about Jayden
• 40:41
Speaker 1: going into the shar Look, I drafted him up, he
• 40:42
Speaker 1: starts on my fantasy team because I think they're going
• 40:45
Speaker 1: to ride him, as Charles Davids would say, like seabiscuit here,
• 40:49
Speaker 1: because he is going to carry this offense with his
• 40:52
Speaker 1: arm man with his like now, I'm concerned about him
• 40:55
Speaker 1: holding up long. You know, over a long season with
• 40:58
Speaker 1: this type of share of the offense, they're going to
• 41:01
Speaker 1: have to be able to run the ball with their backs.
• 41:03
Speaker 1: But I think in this specific game, just knowing the
• 41:05
Speaker 1: front they were going up against and how well they
• 41:07
Speaker 1: are against the run, I think they almost just abandoned
• 41:09
Speaker 1: that early. So that'll be something to keep an eye
• 41:11
Speaker 1: on for his long term future and long term success.
• 41:14
Speaker 1: That's too much, that's too much on him. He doesn't
• 41:16
Speaker 1: need to carry the ball that many times. All right,
• 41:18
Speaker 1: Seattle bo Nicks against the Denver Broncos.
• 41:21
Speaker 3: What you see, Yeah, And look, I think this would
• 41:24
Speaker 3: look very familiar to folks who watched a lot of
• 41:26
Speaker 3: Bonnicks to college. I mean, ball came out quick on
• 41:29
Speaker 3: the majority, but look he made the two interceptions were
• 41:33
Speaker 3: one hundred percent on him, right. Those are decisions that
• 41:35
Speaker 3: you don't want to make, and one of them ended
• 41:37
  Speaker 3: up awesome.
• 41:38
Speaker 4: An opportunity to get.
• 41:39
Speaker 3: At least three points, right because they're down there inclose
• 41:41
Speaker 3: by the red zone and you like to think you'd
• 41:43
Speaker 3: be able to get three points on the board there.
• 41:44
Speaker 3: That makes you know a bit of difference here in
• 41:46
Speaker 3: a six point game. At the end, Sean Payton said
• 41:49
Speaker 3: they need to be better around bo Nicks.
• 41:52
  Speaker 4: I would agree.
• 41:52
Speaker 3: I mean, you know, I think that includes, you know,
• 41:55
Speaker 3: finding ways to get the ball a little bit further downfield.
• 41:59
Speaker 3: I mean, you look at that scatterplot DJ, and it
• 42:01
Speaker 3: is a lot of green from five yards behind the
• 42:04
Speaker 3: line of scrimmage to five yards past the line of scrimmage.
• 42:06
Speaker 3: That's where they were making those throws. In those completions.
• 42:10
Speaker 3: He was two for nine. Bo Nix was on throws
• 42:13
Speaker 3: beyond ten yards past the line of scrimmage, right, and
• 42:16
Speaker 3: one and two of those throws were the interceptions. So
• 42:21
Speaker 3: I think you got to find a way to get
• 42:23
Speaker 3: some more separation and clear that picture up a little
• 42:26
Speaker 3: bit for Bow and to give him some, you know,
• 42:28
Speaker 3: the confidence to make those throws down.
• 42:30
Speaker 4: The field a little bit more. Like it's tough.
• 42:32
Speaker 3: If you're gonna get those you're gonna start getting those
• 42:34
Speaker 3: defenses creeping down pretty hardcore on some of that quick game.
• 42:37
Speaker 3: And so I think you got to back them off
• 42:38
Speaker 3: a little bit and find a little bit of a way.
• 42:40
Speaker 3: And now, look with caution, right, I mean, you're not
• 42:44
Speaker 3: just throw it down field all over the place with
• 42:46
Speaker 3: a rookie quarterback. But I think you got to press
• 42:48
Speaker 3: that defense a little bit more and find some more
• 42:50
  Speaker 3: success that way.
• 42:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, Courtlin Sutton's got to be a bigger part of
• 42:53
Speaker 1: this thing, man Like, You've got to find a way
• 42:55
Speaker 1: to get him more involved. And he's somebody who can
• 42:57
Speaker 1: do it down the field as well. So I'll be
• 42:59
Speaker 1: keeping an eye on that. By the way, on the
• 43:01
Speaker 1: defensive side of the ball, for Seattle, boy A Mafe
• 43:04
Speaker 1: was awesome. He had a ton of pressures. They're a defense.
• 43:07
Speaker 1: It's gonna live off nickel Blitz as well. I'm a
• 43:12
Speaker 1: huge Witherspoon guy. He's one of my favorite guys I've
• 43:14
Speaker 1: evaluated over the last handful of years, and you saw
• 43:16
Speaker 1: what he's done early in his career. They blissed him
• 43:19
Speaker 1: a bunch. I saw it in the preseason as well.
• 43:21
Speaker 1: He looks like Antoine Winfield senior, not junior, who's been
• 43:24
Speaker 1: a step in Tampa Bay. But if you remember Antoine Winfield,
• 43:27
Speaker 1: how he used to blitz off the slot like he
• 43:30
Speaker 1: Witherspoon is a fun player and a great fit in
• 43:32
Speaker 1: this McDonald defense. It felt like an old school approach.
• 43:35
Speaker 1: They were one of those teams when I talked about
• 43:38
Speaker 1: same with the Chargers, you know, and same with the
• 43:40
Speaker 1: way New England won their game. Just kind of an
• 43:42
Speaker 1: old school we're gonna be really physical, and that's what
• 43:45
Speaker 1: he's brought there to the Seattle Seahawks, so a good
• 43:47
Speaker 1: win for them. I do want to hit before we
• 43:50
Speaker 1: leave this little portion of the show here. We talked
• 43:52
Speaker 1: to the top about the Panthers and how bad that was.
• 43:55
Speaker 1: So we're gonna talk about the first round picks this year.
• 43:57
Speaker 1: Let's go back and look at one from last year
• 44:00
Speaker 1: and Bryce Young, I didn't think it could get worse.
• 44:02
Speaker 1: It got worse. It was bad. I mean it was
• 44:05
Speaker 1: it was bad, and it was last year. The debate
• 44:09
Speaker 1: was is this Bryce?
• 44:11
  Speaker 4: Is this?
• 44:12
Speaker 1: Is this a Bryce issue? Or is this an environment issue?
• 44:15
Speaker 1: And they've done their best to improve the environment, and
• 44:19
Speaker 1: it's still not great in terms of what's around him.
• 44:21
Speaker 1: But I'm I'm leaning towards after one game, this thing's
• 44:25
Speaker 1: heading toward it being both RTT that it's it's a
• 44:29
Speaker 1: shared blame and man, it's there's some pressure. As bad
• 44:33
Speaker 1: as that looked week one, they play the Chargers next week,
• 44:36
Speaker 1: I'll be out there to see it. But man, and
• 44:39
Speaker 1: that is not an easy defense he's going to be
• 44:41
Speaker 1: going up against next week. You can argue it's say,
• 44:43
Speaker 1: more talented defense than the one that just suffocated him.
• 44:45
Speaker 1: But man, they have got to make a lot of
• 44:47
Speaker 1: improvement quickly or else you were going to have You're
• 44:50
Speaker 1: going to have doubts, not only in amongst your fan
• 44:53
Speaker 1: base and your city, your entire building is going to
• 44:56
Speaker 1: have major doubts about where this thing's headed.
• 45:00
Speaker 3: Uh Yeah, And I would just say this, and I'm
• 45:02
Speaker 3: checking one thing here to just to get a sense
• 45:06
Speaker 3: of where this pressure came from.
• 45:07
Speaker 4: Yeah, when you got three sacks, like you.
• 45:10
Speaker 3: Were just talking about the pressure that Devin Witherspoon puts
• 45:13
  Speaker 3: from the slot.
• 45:13
Speaker 4: Alante Taylor had three sacks coming from the spot. Yeah,
• 45:17
Speaker 4: how does that happen? Like, you've got to see that
• 45:21
Speaker 4: right like a little bit.
• 45:22
Speaker 3: I mean I get it they're gonna catch you every
• 45:24
Speaker 3: now and then, but to have three sacks from the
• 45:27
Speaker 3: slot corner, I mean, look, they're gonna be better up front,
• 45:30
Speaker 3: but you got to understand where the protection is.
• 45:32
Speaker 4: You got to get rid of the football exactly.
• 45:36
Speaker 3: Interception Yeah, I just man, they got to find a
• 45:41
Speaker 3: way to I mean, at this point, are we talking
• 45:44
Speaker 3: about finding the way to limit the ball in his hand,
• 45:47
Speaker 3: like to just to take the ball out of his hands.
• 45:51
Speaker 3: But when we running the football, they were nothing, couldn't
• 45:54
Speaker 3: do anything. It was just as bad. So they got
• 45:57
Speaker 3: a lot of work to do there.
• 45:58
  Speaker 4: I don't know what they.
• 46:01
Speaker 1: There's a lot of issues there. By the way, Andy Dalton,
• 46:02
Speaker 1: o for one, had a higher pass rating and eventually,
• 46:05
Speaker 1: I mean the calls are going to come. Andy Dalton
• 46:07
Speaker 1: has accomplished some things in this league. He's led teams
• 46:09
Speaker 1: to the playoffs, so it's not like you've got nobody
• 46:12
Speaker 1: to turn to here. So the pressure, yeah, it's going
• 46:15
Speaker 1: to really crank up these next couple weeks. Are going
• 46:18
Speaker 1: to be crucial for brace Young and for the Carolina Panthers.
• 46:26
Speaker 1: One of the fun things to look at when you
• 46:28
Speaker 1: get through week one is not only looking at the Rookies'
• 46:30
Speaker 1: spent a lot of time talking about those guys, but
• 46:31
Speaker 1: how about new faces, new places and some of the performances.
• 46:34
Speaker 1: There were some really good ones. Talked about JK. Dobbins
• 46:37
Speaker 1: and Joe Mixon, as well as Tefon Diggs a little earlier.
• 46:41
Speaker 1: But how about the performance by Saquon Barkley going in
• 46:43
Speaker 1: the division that's got a sting in New York a
• 46:45
Speaker 1: bucko nine on the ground, three total touchdowns and then
• 46:48
Speaker 1: this one at the very top of the list, Sam
• 46:51
Speaker 1: Donald nineteen to twenty four to eight, two touchdowns and
• 46:53
Speaker 1: a pick overall really efficient. I think he started out
• 46:56
Speaker 1: fourteen in a row. I mean he was he was
• 46:59
Speaker 1: rolling and yeah, twelve to twelve he was rolling right
• 47:02
Speaker 1: out to shoot. So, as someone again card carrying member
• 47:05
Speaker 1: of the Sam Donald fan club, the way I described
• 47:08
  Speaker 1: it was, I feel like it's a you know, it's
• 47:10
Speaker 1: a son that maybe I hoped one day would be
• 47:13
Speaker 1: a doctor, but now I'm just look, I just want
• 47:16
Speaker 1: you to graduate from the junior college and let's just
• 47:18
Speaker 1: move out of the house, like, let's get you let's
• 47:20
Speaker 1: get you going. And I think right now, where that's
• 47:22
Speaker 1: the steps that we've taken and then we can see
• 47:24
Speaker 1: what life has for us going forward. But he's in
• 47:27
Speaker 1: a great, great position the three p's. He's got playmakers,
• 47:31
  Speaker 1: he's got a play caller, he's got protection. And that's
• 47:34
  Speaker 1: a good That's not a bad Giants, Steve. That's not
• 47:36
Speaker 1: a good Giants team, but that is not a bad
• 47:39
Speaker 1: Giants defense that he was playing against, especially upfront with
• 47:42
Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence and company. So impressive what we saw there
• 47:46
  Speaker 1: from Sam Donald. I won't I won't even force you
• 47:48
Speaker 1: to jump in on the bandwagon there. We're not taking
• 47:50
Speaker 1: new members currently at the moment.
• 47:51
Speaker 4: Martin, all right, there you go.
• 47:54
Speaker 1: Atlanta Pittsburgh rehtt takeaway from that game.
• 47:57
Speaker 4: Yeah, I guess I was expecting more from the foul offense.
• 48:01
Speaker 3: I really was, And I know the Steelers play good
• 48:03
Speaker 3: defense right with that is something we have come to
• 48:05
Speaker 3: expect and TJ. Watt is one of the best closers
• 48:07
Speaker 3: in the league. We saw that with the walkoff sack. Essentially,
• 48:09
Speaker 3: Cam Hayward was fantastic in this game, especially at the
• 48:12
Speaker 3: point of attack of the run game.
• 48:14
  Speaker 4: But I just I expected.
• 48:16
Speaker 3: More knowing you know, where Zach Robinson has come from,
• 48:20
Speaker 3: you know, as a play caller and his influences. Obviously
• 48:23
Speaker 3: Kirk's ability to operate in an offense like this, and
• 48:26
Speaker 3: then the terrific targets, right, Drake London, Kyle Pitts.
• 48:28
Speaker 4: Yeah, Kyle Pits got into the end zone.
• 48:31
Speaker 3: That was only one of you know, I think three
• 48:32
Speaker 3: catches he had on the day. I just like, I
• 48:34
Speaker 3: want more from Drake London. Like, Drake is an incredible talent.
• 48:37
Speaker 3: We talked about his ability to be physical with the
• 48:39
Speaker 3: ball in his hands after the catch. Didn't really have
• 48:42
Speaker 3: a lot of those opportunities. He did not get a
• 48:43
Speaker 3: target or a catch in the second half. Watched all
• 48:46
Speaker 3: of his routes run. A couple of times. Kurt wanted
• 48:48
Speaker 3: to get to him, but he was either you know,
• 48:50
Speaker 3: didn't really generate enough separation to make Kirk confident to
• 48:53
Speaker 3: get that throw out, or just wasn't out of his
• 48:55
Speaker 3: break or ready when Kirk was ready to.
• 48:57
Speaker 4: Let go of it.
• 48:58
Speaker 3: Didn't seem to have patience Kirk on this that deeper
• 49:00
Speaker 3: stuff that they were They sent Drake on a couple
• 49:02
Speaker 3: of times could have ended up going London's way, but
• 49:05
Speaker 3: ended up going somewhere else and ended up being fairly successful,
• 49:07
Speaker 3: So can't fault it there. I thought, he you know
• 49:10
Speaker 3: something that may work against him here is he's actually
• 49:13
Speaker 3: a really good physical blocker out in the perimeter when
• 49:15
Speaker 3: they're running some of that quick hitter stuff to Bijon
• 49:18
Speaker 3: kind of helps generate some lanes, so you know, they
• 49:20
Speaker 3: want to get him out there on those types of plays,
• 49:22
Speaker 3: which of course is going to take you down on
• 49:24
Speaker 3: target chair every now and then. They really only connected
• 49:27
Speaker 3: in the quick Gay her Cousins and Drake London. So
• 49:30
Speaker 3: credit to Dante Jackson, to Deshaun Elliott, who I thought
• 49:32
Speaker 3: were really good in the secondary for Pittsburgh speaking of
• 49:35
Speaker 3: new faces and new places and plus they always put
• 49:37
Speaker 3: up some good pressure. But overall I wanted to see
• 49:40
Speaker 3: more from the Falcons offense.
• 49:43
Speaker 1: I'll flip it over to you. This side justin fields
• 49:45
Speaker 1: did not turn the ball over, which was good to see.
• 49:47
Speaker 1: And this again, I feel like this has been my theme.
• 49:50
Speaker 1: I keep hitting it. But that was that was kind
• 49:53
Speaker 1: of the old school approach, right that you can win games,
• 49:55
Speaker 1: don't turn the ball over. Take your opportunities when they're there.
• 49:59
Speaker 1: It's not gonna a high scoring, high flying affair, but
• 50:02
Speaker 1: it was efficient Field seventeen to twenty three, a buck
• 50:05
Speaker 1: fifty six and ran for fifty seven yards. It's just
• 50:08
Speaker 1: enough when you got a defense like they have, don't
• 50:10
Speaker 1: turn the ball over. He fumbled one time, they got
• 50:12
  Speaker 1: it back. That's a that's a formula that the Steelers
• 50:16
Speaker 1: can can win a lot of ball games with. So
• 50:19
Speaker 1: happy for Fields. Again, that's back in his hometown where
• 50:21
Speaker 1: he grew up, So a great moment for him. We'll
• 50:24
Speaker 1: see what that means, you know going forward Russell Wilson,
• 50:27
Speaker 1: you know, with his health, you know, does he just
• 50:29
Speaker 1: assume that position? I'm not so sure about that. So,
• 50:32
Speaker 1: you know, really really happy for Justin Field has kind
• 50:34
Speaker 1: of been through a lot over the last year to
• 50:37
Speaker 1: get that opportunity to cash it in. TJ. Watt is
• 50:39
Speaker 1: a freak show. Nothing's changed from that standpoint. Rookie note,
• 50:43
Speaker 1: I think I mentioned this to you earlier, but Zach Frazier,
• 50:46
Speaker 1: the center of the rookie center is really good man.
• 50:49
Speaker 1: Excellent performance there in his first start. A couple more games,
• 50:53
Speaker 1: real quick, Yes, sir.
• 50:54
Speaker 3: Real quick, real quick, just to paint one last put
• 50:56
Speaker 3: last ball on this. Arthur Smith, offensive coordinator for the Steelers,
• 51:01
Speaker 3: coming back to Atlanta where he got fired as the
• 51:03
Speaker 3: head coach, put up a very Arthur Smith offensive output.
• 51:06
Speaker 3: And how many times did we see that in Atlanta
• 51:08
Speaker 3: when they were in a position to win. But as
• 51:10
Speaker 3: you mentioned, Justin Field's no turnovers, quarterback turns it over,
• 51:15
Speaker 3: add mistake, red zone turnover and they lose those close games. Well,
• 51:19
Speaker 3: this time Justin Fields helped them win in an Arthur
• 51:22
Speaker 3: Smith type you know, attack on offense.
• 51:24
Speaker 1: That thought was cool. Yeah again, nice homecoming for both
• 51:27
Speaker 1: him and for Justin Fields. All right, New England Cincinnati Man.
• 51:31
Speaker 1: An ugly game from Cincinnati standpoint, This is an offense
• 51:34
Speaker 1: Joe Burrow only one hundred and sixty four yards. No
• 51:37
Speaker 1: T Higgins in this one. But you know New England again,
• 51:41
Speaker 1: same theme, right, muck it up, make it a dirty game,
• 51:44
Speaker 1: physical game, a grimy game, not a lot of scoring,
• 51:48
Speaker 1: don't screw up. It's like, I feel like that was
• 51:51
Speaker 1: my theme and this is another example of it with
• 51:53
  Speaker 1: this game.
• 51:55
  Speaker 4: That's right, You're absolutely right.
• 51:56
Speaker 3: I mean that fits the bill of what you were
• 51:58
Speaker 3: talking about at the top of the show without qu
• 52:00
Speaker 3: and Ramondre Stevenson. You know, essentially, you know, open the
• 52:03
Speaker 3: scoring here and set the tone for the game, right
• 52:06
Speaker 3: open the scoring for the Patriots and for proclude. I
• 52:08
Speaker 3: mean the Bengals didn't score till forty four minutes into
• 52:11
Speaker 3: the game. That's how good this Patriots defense was playing.
• 52:14
Speaker 3: And I know the Bengals have had the yo yo
• 52:15
Speaker 3: with you know, is Higgins gonna play yes, but Chase isn't.
• 52:20
Speaker 3: Is Chase gonna play no, but Higgins is? And then
• 52:22
Speaker 3: it gets flipped again this time, so I know that
• 52:25
Speaker 3: that has taken a toll.
• 52:26
Speaker 4: I would imagine how this offense wants to operate and attack.
• 52:30
Speaker 3: And they missed Joe Mixon today it felt like to
• 52:31
Speaker 3: me too, or on Sunday it did not get a
• 52:34
Speaker 3: lot out of the ground game, didn't run it a
• 52:36
Speaker 3: whole bunch anyway, they were trailing quite a bit. But
• 52:39
Speaker 3: I think, you know, Keon White is one to really
• 52:41
Speaker 3: dig in on here, DJ. You know, big player with
• 52:44
Speaker 3: some positional flexibility that we talked about in the draft process, right,
• 52:49
Speaker 3: not quite an edge rusher, not quite a deep tackle,
• 52:51
Speaker 3: but it's really well in what Girodmeo wants to do.
• 52:55
Speaker 3: It reminds me a lot of Jarvis Green when he
• 52:57
  Speaker 3: was back playing.
• 52:57
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 52:57
Speaker 4: It's one of those kind of bigger old scowl guys. Yeah.
• 53:00
Speaker 3: For the Patriots, two and a half sacks in this game,
• 53:03
Speaker 3: a physical presence against that Bengals defense.
• 53:06
  Speaker 4: Offensively.
• 53:07
Speaker 1: It was a good day for me on kind of
• 53:09
Speaker 1: statement grades, because Keon White was a statement grade when
• 53:13
Speaker 1: I did my first top fifty, he was my eighth
• 53:14
Speaker 1: overall player. Now did not have a good Senior Bowl,
• 53:18
Speaker 1: get to the whole process. He ended up twenty eighth
• 53:20
Speaker 1: for me, which is still, you know, higher than where
• 53:22
Speaker 1: he ended up getting selected. But someone who was a
• 53:24
Speaker 1: big explosive played really really hard. Those are traits that
• 53:28
Speaker 1: I thought would translate really well, and it's nice to
• 53:29
Speaker 1: see after they make the decision to move on from
• 53:31
Speaker 1: Matt Judon, he takes it and runs with it and
• 53:34
Speaker 1: it has a really really good game. So excited for
• 53:36
Speaker 1: Kean White. The other one was Greg Grussou going back
• 53:38
Speaker 1: to Buffalo, who was one that I kind of pushed
• 53:40
Speaker 1: my chips and he was He was very disruptive in
• 53:43
Speaker 1: the job he did in that Buffalo game. So it's
• 53:46
Speaker 1: always it's always fun. Now there's some other draft president
• 53:49
Speaker 1: where I try to forget about j Grade. I don't remember.
• 53:53
Speaker 1: I don't remember what it gave him. But you take
• 53:56
Speaker 1: the wins where you can find him. It's time for
• 53:58
  Speaker 1: the money.
• 53:58
Speaker 2: That game preview presented by Draft Kings Sportsbook this week
• 54:02
Speaker 2: is the Jets at the forty nine Ers. This bread
• 54:04
Speaker 2: is minus four and a half favoring the forty nine Ers.
• 54:06
Speaker 2: The over under is forty three and a half points.
• 54:11
Speaker 1: All right, we've got one game left here and it
• 54:13
Speaker 1: is a fun one. It's Aaron Rodgers. He's back New
• 54:15
Speaker 1: York Jets going to take on forty nine Ers. May
• 54:18
Speaker 1: maybe just one thought here RTT, like, we're gonna know
• 54:22
Speaker 1: based off of what who wins this ball game?
• 54:26
  Speaker 4: What is it?
• 54:28
Speaker 3: It's whether the you know, Big three for San Francisco
• 54:32
Speaker 3: skip a beat or not. Right, Christian McCaffrey Brandon, I you,
• 54:35
Speaker 3: Trent Williams, if they are out and running the way
• 54:38
Speaker 3: that we expect them to when they are full go
• 54:41
Speaker 3: and you know the fact that they haven't practiced really
• 54:45
Speaker 3: at all throughout the preseason in training camp, does it matter?
• 54:48
Speaker 3: Maybe not, But if they are full go I don't
• 54:51
Speaker 3: think there's a way in which the forty nine ers
• 54:52
Speaker 3: at home lose this football game. I feel really good
• 54:56
Speaker 3: about the way that they can attack that way, and
• 54:58
Speaker 3: then defensively, well, you know, we'll see, you know, what
• 55:01
Speaker 3: they do against Aaron Rodgers. But I would also keep
• 55:03
Speaker 3: Breese Hall in mind here. I know there's a lot
• 55:05
Speaker 3: of talk about Rogers going back to the Bay. You
• 55:07
Speaker 3: can get draft him and all that, but Brees Hall
• 55:09
Speaker 3: is what's gonna you know, really sounds the alarm bells
• 55:12
Speaker 3: for me when you look at that side of the ball.
• 55:15
Speaker 1: There haven't been a ton of wins for the Jets
• 55:17
Speaker 1: since Breese Hall got there. But when you look at
• 55:20
Speaker 1: big wins that they have had, b Reese Hall is
• 55:23
Speaker 1: the center of all of it. And Brees Hall is
• 55:26
Speaker 1: the one who's going to make this thing go. If
• 55:27
Speaker 1: Breese Hall can get loose a little bit and pop
• 55:30
Speaker 1: a couple of runs, it's going to scare a safety down.
• 55:33
Speaker 1: And now you have to deal with Garrett Wilson. Now
• 55:36
Speaker 1: you can open this offense up a little bit. Now
• 55:38
Speaker 1: you get the tight ends involved. But if we come
• 55:40
Speaker 1: out there and Breese Hall is literally running into a
• 55:43
Speaker 1: brick wall of forty nine ers. Then it's going to
• 55:46
Speaker 1: be a tough one for Aaron Rodgers. So to me,
• 55:48
Speaker 1: that is the key to this game. If the Jets
• 55:50
Speaker 1: are going to win it, I think it goes through
• 55:51
Speaker 1: Breese Hall, not through Aaron Rodgers. So that's my that's
• 55:55
Speaker 1: my look on this ball game. It's a tough place, man,
• 55:58
Speaker 1: It's a tough assignment to go in there against that team,
• 56:01
Speaker 1: and you're going to test, you know, an offensive line
• 56:03
Speaker 1: that looks much better for the Jets. You know, then
• 56:07
Speaker 1: it's been due to injuries the last couple of years.
• 56:09
Speaker 1: This is as good an offensive one as they've had
• 56:11
Speaker 1: there in some time. What do they look like against
• 56:13
Speaker 1: a front like this one? That's a pretty stiff test right.
• 56:15
Speaker 4: Out the gate, no, no question.
• 56:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, and so almost you know, that's that's the part
• 56:21
Speaker 3: that's gonna be fun to watch, right I mean that
• 56:22
Speaker 3: physicality piece. It'd be fun to watch, you know, Aaron
• 56:24
Speaker 3: Rodgers play more than five snaps, I think, and see
• 56:27
Speaker 3: what this thing, you know, really does look like. We
• 56:29
Speaker 3: haven't seen him in two years. So there's a lot
• 56:31
Speaker 3: of intrigue with this one. I'm actually I'm really fired
• 56:33
Speaker 3: up to get this one rolling. You know and see
• 56:36
Speaker 3: what we got here on the first Monday night of

Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, go ahead, we'll go.

Speaker 3: Just as a teaser for later in the league to
• 57:00
Speaker 3: see football might be back.
• 57:02
Speaker 1: I know they're pretty good. That was on the call.
• 57:04
Speaker 1: Uh Drew, our producer, has got in my air and
• 57:07
Speaker 1: said that, uh yeah, Michigan might not be that's what
• 57:10
  Speaker 1: do you think?
• 57:11
Speaker 4: That's right, that the album might not be.
