Transcript
- 0:10Hello and welcome to Brandon's Grapher's episode 35 BB.
- 0:20BBBBBBBBB. In in fairness, we should have
- 0:25run through this idea before I actually put it through.
- 0:30But yes, we are going to take a look at Catch the Sorry the
- 0:36Catch Enigma series episodes three and four.
- 0:42As you can tell, one member of the team has dropped out and we
- 0:49have some from rumbling about wrestling still with us.
- 0:54I just got to say good evening. But we we haven't particularly
- 1:00changed days. We're still here.
- 1:02It's now the two best halves of the two best wrestling YouTube
- 1:12podcast slash review shows in Manchester.
- 1:17Effectively, I mean, if you don't, if you don't include say,
- 1:24Rochdale, then you don't have grabs and claps to that.
- 1:29All pencilled in podcasts. But then I can say I've got a
- 1:36finger in that pie as I am technically producer when needs
- 1:42to be. However, you're not here for us
- 1:47to talk waffle. I mean, you can do if you want,
- 1:52you can pay us. Oh, don't pay the show.
- 1:56Yeah, yeah. But.
- 1:57Toss the survivor at a show and we'll talk about anything you
- 2:03want. Yeah, within reason and not
- 2:07illegal. So as I say we are looking at
- 2:13Episode 3 as it was the Group A matches.
- 2:23We had quite a bit happen on Episode 3 to be fair, so we will
- 2:28get straight into it. So the rules again for the
- 2:36Enigma series for those that do not know because this is a
- 2:42separate episode, so get your voice warmed up here.
- 2:48So we have for the Enigma Series A 10 minute, sorry, 10 minute
- 2:56time limit on all. Minute time limit.
- 3:00There we go on all matches. If you win, you get 2.
- 3:05Points 2 points 2 points 2 points.
- 3:09If you or you get one point. If it is a time limit, draw.
- 3:14Time limit draw. Time limit draw.
- 3:17You get nothing for a loss, but we don't do out for that because
- 3:21no one actually says it and -1 point for a count out or a
- 3:29disqualification. -1 - 1. See, we're we're, we're well
- 3:37behaved and well adjusted wrestling fans.
- 3:43So we start off episode 3 with a block a match.
- 3:49Block a, block a. Block A.
- 3:51I've got him well trained. Ladies and gentlemen, it is
- 3:55Keenan Krishna taking on Kevin Lloyd.
- 3:59So let's get into the notes, of which I don't particularly have
- 4:03too many. So it is effectively a very
- 4:09technical encounter at the start with Lloyd and Krishna running
- 4:16through their repertoire of technical moves are something we
- 4:21haven't really seen Krishna do in this particular tournament.
- 4:28But we see Keenan slapping Sexy Kev on the back and that really
- 4:34fires Lloyd up. Lloyd then hits a dropkick with
- 4:40the ref. Oh sorry.
- 4:42Lloyd is then hit by a dropkick after ref shoe is talking to
- 4:49Sexy Kev. This allows Keenan to gain the
- 4:52upper hand. We then have Krishna driving the
- 4:58point of the elbow into the the neck and shoulder area, much
- 5:06like his opening block match results to trying to gouge the
- 5:12eyes and gain any advantage he can.
- 5:16By doing so, Keenan targets the left arm of Lloyd and again with
- 5:24the gloves that he wears, targets the eyeballs of 1 Kevin
- 5:29Lloyd. However, Sexy Kev then puts him
- 5:34in an arm bar and nails a few sweet German suplexes.
- 5:41Both target the arm of the other opponent.
- 5:46Krishna goes on to hit the Deaf Valley driver and collect
- 5:51another two points in Block A Krishna is your winner.
- 5:59What was your take on this particular opening match of
- 6:04Block A? So with this match, it was a
- 6:12very different affair because in this block of the tournament,
- 6:18Kev and Keenan are the two smaller men, you know, So they
- 6:27had a very different match than the rest of the matches we have
- 6:30seen in this block where instead of it being, you know, instead
- 6:39of it being big power moves and make like more story time, we
- 6:44did get a lot of more like strikes.
- 6:49It was like watching just hard hitting blows and it was sort of
- 6:57like they was both trying to target certain areas and that
- 7:01was the story they were trying to tell.
- 7:03It's an interesting detail how Keenan heats.
- 7:08He slaps his opponent, you know, arrogantly and that causes his
- 7:12opponents to get back into his matches.
- 7:16So that's a nice detail that is across both of his tournament
- 7:22matches up to now, and you've said this in the previous
- 7:27episode, but no one would have predicted that Keenan would be
- 7:32the front runner at this stage in the tournament.
- 7:35And it's really his to lose. He's like Arsenal, you know it's
- 7:39his to bottle. That that is one way to look at
- 7:44things. We then moved to match #2 which
- 7:51was originally scheduled for The Catch.
- 7:55Oh sorry, it wasn't The Catch women's start.
- 7:57I completely ignore that it was Holly Barlow against Melissa
- 8:03Fears. However, we then had The Catch
- 8:09Women's champion in Lily Winter making an appearance.
- 8:15Put forward the idea that she wanted to be a fighting champion
- 8:20and made this a triple threat match and then we were joined by
- 8:27Lana Austin who having Mark Adams say that we haven't been
- 8:35demonetised yet because we have been very good.
- 8:38There's been no swearing. Lana Austin comes out and
- 8:43immediately comes out with twat fuck and that money just sinks.
- 8:51Continues to go close to where the Titanic is.
- 8:58So effectively we get a four way with Lana saying that she is
- 9:04Manchester's hometown hero. She should be fitted in this
- 9:08contest. I think Holly says she's from
- 9:12Manchester as well and Lana just dismisses her completely.
- 9:16Just goes, yeah, no one cares with Lana's being as she is.
- 9:24So Lily agrees to this being a four way and then Austin decides
- 9:30to Decker and we go into this contest.
- 9:35So we have Winter hitting double knees to fierce knocks down
- 9:41Austin. Holly Barlow then hits a couple
- 9:46of crossbody attempts on the champion.
- 9:50Melissa Fias then trips Holly up drags her into the ring post.
- 9:56Fias is then the woman in charge in this bout and hits mocking
- 10:04Holly Chance while she hits a back breaker on Barlow.
- 10:11Mel then grabs the legs of Barlow and swings them round to
- 10:16the outside and hits her very very very very very very very
- 10:23very very very very very very, very very best friend in
- 10:31Glenroston and then proceeds to hit a backstabber while in the
- 10:37ropes. A slingshot elbow by face over
- 10:43the top rope and into the ring sees Fierce effectively being
- 10:49the biggest threat in this match.
- 10:52Then she goes on to hit a driver on Holly.
- 10:57Holly fights back but her back takes absolute pounding with
- 11:05Melissa Fierce whipping her violently into all four corners
- 11:10near enough. We then see Lally combining and
- 11:15hitting a combination of offences, but I think Mark Adams
- 11:21puts it better than I ever put on commentary by saying that
- 11:27combination was as beautiful as a Cadbury's fruit and nut.
- 11:34A true Oscar Wilde amongst us. Holly then goes to roll up Lana.
- 11:43Lana's face is 1 of utter disgust and dismay but then
- 11:49softens because Holly apologises and says I've obviously rubbed
- 11:57off on Holly because she's learnt from the best lolly hug
- 12:01in the ring. And then we see both Lily and
- 12:06Melissa rolling up, the two members of Lally both gaining 2
- 12:14counts. We then have Lily ganging up on
- 12:20Lily Winter who is sat precariously on the top row and
- 12:26not too far from where the commentary desk is.
- 12:30However, Fierce comes over, hits a double power bomb on Barlow
- 12:36and Austin. Mel then kicks the legs away
- 12:41from Winter and face plants her into the mat but only gets a 2
- 12:47count. But after that she notices that
- 12:51both Barlow and Austin are down and takes turns going to each
- 12:56person covering them for a pinfall and gets to every time
- 13:01off referee James Greenwood. Lana then catches Mel puts her
- 13:08in 1/2 crap so going full on Michael Oku.
- 13:14Lily however hits the cold shoulder on Holly and while Mel
- 13:21taps out to the half crap, Greenwood counts the pinfall for
- 13:27Lily Winter over Holly Barlow and sees Lana thinking she's won
- 13:34the women's title and obviously has not.
- 13:39As Greenwood removes the belt and Lily Winter takes it from
- 13:44Lana Austin and then pretty much Lana punches Lily, proceeds to
- 13:53attack the champion, holds the belt aloft and I think where
- 13:58this is going is we're going to see Lana taking on Lily Winter
- 14:04for the Catch Championship probably.
- 14:10I would say a good bet, if not the next Enigma series show,
- 14:15then definitely at Gorilla. What was your thoughts on this
- 14:23women's title about? I really like the fact that they
- 14:29didn't necessarily say, you know, they didn't announce Lily,
- 14:36we're going to come out and Lana we're going to come out.
- 14:41So it was a nice surprise for the crowd and I think it got the
- 14:44crowd, you know, to instantly get engaged in this match
- 14:48because of the surprise. So like, normally the hump
- 14:51matches are the hardest ones, you know, to get a spark in, but
- 14:57this, you know, a nice surprise which led to a really
- 15:03entertaining contest. Could there was action outside
- 15:06the ring? In the ring, even though there
- 15:09was only four of them, they made it feel like did all over.
- 15:12And despite the fact they could only really access two sides of
- 15:15the ring, could the other two sides you'd be brawling on the
- 15:19fans. I'd say the only weak spot of
- 15:26the match is the fact that Lana's kind of right in the
- 15:31rules he should like because the submission was in first.
- 15:36Greenwood shouldn't have left the submission to count the pin
- 15:44like so in terms of the actual rule book of matches, Lana
- 15:51should technically be the champion.
- 15:53She got you know the when Lisa first did tap out despite the
- 15:58fact that the three was counted at the same time because Lance
- 16:02was in first. You know, she technically should
- 16:05be the champion right now. It's a it's a sticky subject.
- 16:13I have found myself wading through these problems in the
- 16:19past. Again, I always go off the thing
- 16:24of a pinfall will take priority over a submission because it's
- 16:34the easier thing to do out of the two.
- 16:40But it would it would be interesting if you counted the
- 16:43three and also gave the submission at the at the same
- 16:47time. I will have to ask a referee
- 16:51friend of mine for what the official rules are on this
- 16:58situation. So I will I will report back at
- 17:05a later date on on the findings of what transpires.
- 17:14We then come to a promo from the one and only Mr Ian Skinner.
- 17:24Skinner comes out in an eye patch and a fur coat looking
- 17:30very much like Jerry Saint Clair in Phoenix Knights when he
- 17:34described himself as a gay Satan.
- 17:39If you're a fan of Phoenix Knights, you will get that
- 17:41reference. The fans all chant Where's your
- 17:45parrot? Because Skinner is wearing eye
- 17:50patch, which I don't particularly think he explains
- 17:55why he's wearing an eye patch. I don't think that's ever
- 18:02mentioned to be there. Skinner then references people
- 18:07have been making a lot of pirate based jokes at him and
- 18:14effectively runs through them. So which Skinner waits for the
- 18:20crowd to die down and a sole voice in the crowd chants in
- 18:26your own time mate. Which did make me chuckle when I
- 18:31watched it back. He says he wants silence and he
- 18:37wants the crowd to listen and the the people in the red arches
- 18:43start chanting we're not listening.
- 18:46And Skinner's response to that Channel every single time is
- 18:51That's your fault, which I did find quite humorous.
- 18:59Didn't realise it at the time but when I've watched it back it
- 19:04is very deadpan how he does it. He then makes reference to Steen
- 19:12mentioning about violence and murder.
- 19:16The crowd champ murder. Then we have fans chancing we
- 19:21want Aidan. Skinner replies he's not here
- 19:27effectively responding to that champ.
- 19:31He apologises to the fans for what he and Steen were doing.
- 19:37Brawling at Gorilla claims Steen wasn't meant to be at the last
- 19:45recording, but he says I was actually meant to be here, which
- 19:51is why he's there. The fans can't decide on what
- 19:55chant they want. With some chanting violence,
- 19:58some chanting murder, and Skinner gets a bit pissy and
- 20:02says can you decide what chant you actually want?
- 20:06He's quite pissy with the crowd. Skinner in this promo.
- 20:14We then have as I move to the next page, he pulls out a metal
- 20:20turnbuckle hook and in the infamous words of Michael Keaton
- 20:25in Batman from the 1989 film, he says, do you want to get nuts?
- 20:35Let's get nuts. And then a couple seconds after
- 20:38it goes Deez Nuts. I don't think he got the
- 20:44response he actually wanted when he cracked that little joke at
- 20:48the end. He goes on to say Steen's not
- 20:52here again, but he says if he wants he can come to the red
- 20:57arches because I will be here. Shouts down the crowd quite a
- 21:02fair few times saying I'm the one with the microphone, not
- 21:06you. You're you're out there because
- 21:09you paid a ticket. So why are you talking This is
- 21:14my time. Then gets a chant of we got
- 21:18tickets from from the crowd in the red arches.
- 21:26He then goes on to say at Gorilla, at Gimme Danger, the
- 21:31dog collar match, you will get what you want, violence, murder,
- 21:39but you won't like the result. When Ian Skinner has his hand
- 21:42raised in victory while he's saying all that says violence
- 21:51and murder, the crowd cheer. Every single word he effectively
- 21:55says up until actually no. Even when he says you won't like
- 22:00the result, the crowd still cheer.
- 22:04So even the crowd were a bit pissed in a drink wise or they
- 22:08weren't listening. It could be a mixture of both to
- 22:13be fair. What did you make of this promo?
- 22:22I will say it's very on brand of catch to have the long promos,
- 22:30the love of a good long promo. He'll comes out there and just
- 22:35is a prick basically to the crowds.
- 22:39But Skinner does it so well. Yeah, he does.
- 22:46He's he's very good. I hate to admit, but he's very
- 22:48good. And by the way, just saying,
- 22:51when he was apologising to the fans, he still hasn't apologised
- 22:57to me. Because if you recall back to
- 23:01Gorilla, the brawl, it's on the video they knock into me when
- 23:06they start fighting and they they push me out the way.
- 23:11Well, I've got my phone in the hand.
- 23:13They nearly knock it out. Oh, I I don't expect you to get
- 23:16an apology anytime soon, let's put it that way.
- 23:20Maybe you're the cause of this rivalry.
- 23:24I don't want to say Amber right before they did start brawling,
- 23:27I did say to Ayton punch him because he's because he's skin a
- 23:31spat in Ayton's face on the merch stand and was like saying
- 23:35them to get away 6 feet because of the restraining order or
- 23:39whatever. So.
- 23:42But yeah, it again, much in the same vein as scenes promo, it,
- 23:51it helped move the the storyline along, so it did what it needed
- 23:57to do. Keeps the fire warm.
- 23:59Yeah, and it we had a bit of fun with Skinny Skinner being Dick
- 24:05to some of the fans, but for some people he's a lovable Dick.
- 24:11Yeah, we all love a good Dick now and then.
- 24:15Oh yes, we then come to the main events of Show Free, which was
- 24:24Henry Foust against Dec McAfee, a rematch of their match at
- 24:31Gorilla and that was one of my favourite bouts that we saw.
- 24:43That was a physical and bruising encounter and this was exactly
- 24:50in the same form. Deck hits hard, Faust strikes
- 24:59McAfee hard between the shoulder blades with a solid stiff
- 25:04strike. Again, the best striker from
- 25:10Newcastle since Alan Shearer. I will try and get that phrase
- 25:15over. He then tries to apply a Dragon
- 25:19Sleeper, but McCarthy is very quick to get into the ropes.
- 25:26Deck focuses on the left arm of Henry and does not let go for a
- 25:32good minute or two, putting on the Shankly Gate Submission
- 25:38Hold, which was affected by Zach Gibson of the Grizzled Young
- 25:45Veterans. Faust ducks a clothesline,
- 25:50smacks deck full in the chest, and I think most people outside
- 25:56would have heard it as it reverberated around the venue.
- 26:01This leads to Foust firing up. We then have him.
- 26:08I think it's about 3 or 4 stick kicks to the chest of his
- 26:13opponent. Results soon after with Henry
- 26:16putting the Dragon Sleeper on. The Cafe has that tapping out to
- 26:23it and sees Fausty Boy getting his first win in the Enigma
- 26:28series. And we now have an interesting
- 26:34development with The Block A card reading Keenan Krishna with
- 26:43four points, McCarthy and Faust on 2.
- 26:48And it's all but over now for Kevin Lloyd as he has failed to
- 26:56register a point so far. What was your take on this
- 27:03contest? I really liked this contest.
- 27:08I didn't see the first time these two men have gone against
- 27:12each other so this was my first time seeing this bout and the
- 27:20term big meaty men slapping me is common in wrestling.
- 27:26This is the definition because these two just They were both
- 27:32just read after this, both just bright red from the chops, the
- 27:39kicks and everything. And it's wild that they had the
- 27:44show had this match on the middle of the tournament instead
- 27:51of at the beginning of the end. But what a treat for round 4,
- 28:00the second show, the third show even.
- 28:06And it's interesting now because Declan had unless Declan gets
- 28:16involved, he has no control on how Faust will end this
- 28:21tournament. Because Declan is facing Keenan
- 28:26and if and Declan, he needs to get something against Keenan in
- 28:32order to his best hope to tie it.
- 28:35His best hope that is that Kev Lloyd beats Faust and then it's
- 28:42him and Keenan Tide. Worst case scenario he is he
- 28:49lets Keenan win because even the draw would give Keenan the win.
- 28:56But it's it's going to be an interesting final round of
- 29:02matches on the, I think it's 27, yes.
- 29:07So that will definitely be something to look forward to.
- 29:11As you kind of said, the final round of matches is Keenan B
- 29:18McCarthy and Henry Foust taking on Kevin Lloyd.
- 29:23You've got to think Kev is going to give it his all because it
- 29:27will be a little bit embarrassing for him if he comes
- 29:31up with no points, no poir in the tournament.
- 29:35So even though he might not be able to win, he's going to give
- 29:39it his all against Faust. I mean, we had Tom Felwell last
- 29:45year finishing on -1 so you know, 0 isn't that bad.
- 29:53But not -1 But for someone who doesn't cheat, 0 is the worst
- 29:59that you can possibly do theoretically.
- 30:04I think this tournament, it's almost felt like they're wise.
- 30:14It's almost like they've had to be on their game against Lloyd
- 30:17because they know he is very good on submissions and if you
- 30:24avoid getting caught in them, you have more than a punches
- 30:30chance of winning. So as long as you you avoid the
- 30:34arm bar and any real kind of like submissions off off Lloyd
- 30:39you you have more than a good chance of victory.
- 30:45Again, the main thing to do when you face Krishna is just avoid
- 30:50him raking your eyes because that seems to be the the best
- 30:56plan he has and as much as it's frustrating, it's working and
- 31:02you can't mess with anything that's working.
- 31:04Yeah, it will be interesting against Declan.
- 31:08Declan's main plan is to go after your arms so that you
- 31:12can't do your power moves, but Keenan doesn't fight like that.
- 31:16So it's interesting what Declan can cook up to try and get
- 31:22Keenan down for the pin or submission, because that's the
- 31:25only thing that you can do at this point.
- 31:28Because. Because if you look at it that
- 31:31last round, you've got Keenan who likes to focus on mostly
- 31:38like the eyes and try and pick a body part.
- 31:41McCarthy is just going to kind of grind you down and use brute
- 31:47strength. And the overmatch is just the
- 31:50most technical sound one. And it's almost a case of will
- 31:57they be wanting to kind of get a submission over the other?
- 32:02So it's going to be very interesting.
- 32:04Both of them are very interesting kind of final round
- 32:08matches. But we move to show #4 our last
- 32:17episodes of the two shows at the Red Arches, we start off with a
- 32:25Scott Oberman open challenge. We have Greenwood taking bets on
- 32:32how long Scott's entrance is going to take.
- 32:36And while we have that, Mark informs Lucy that he is on
- 32:41Grinder while everyone kind of just talks amongst themselves.
- 32:48So we've got Mark on Grinder, Greenwood taking bets on how
- 32:52long Green Oberman's entrances. And for those that would like to
- 32:59know, we made it that it's once he gets into the ring and that.
- 33:08Both feet must touch the man. Yeah, in order to count.
- 33:11It's like bat rumble, Rumble. It's the reverse.
- 33:15Battle royal rules, Yeah. And if you're interested to know
- 33:20all the time, it was 3 minutes and 16 seconds.
- 33:24So if you want to play that game again on the 27th, try and aim
- 33:31around that time frame. Eventually Scott gets in the
- 33:36ring and chats says he doesn't understand why on earth Catch
- 33:42keep letting him choose his opponents.
- 33:46He then says he's not going to do the the obvious thing of
- 33:50choosing a wrestler, he's going to pick a fan out and he's going
- 33:56to let the fans decide on who he's going to face, which
- 34:01couldn't possibly go wrong unless you're Jeebus.
- 34:07So he says the only one he actually knows in the crowd is
- 34:11Jeebus and gets a massive cheer from the crowd to which I can't
- 34:19unders. I'm trying to figure out if
- 34:22they're fans of Jeebus or they just wanted to see him being
- 34:27broken in half. I'll let you decide on that.
- 34:34Mark Adams then gets chanted and he very quickly leaves the ring.
- 34:40Greenwood gets a bit of a reaction, but not to the levels
- 34:47that Jeebus did. So Olbermann then tells Jeebus
- 34:51to stand up and come towards the ring because he's going to face
- 34:56Hoberman. Pele runs into the ring though,
- 35:01grabs the microphone, says Gee, this isn't a wrestler, but he is
- 35:09and says you want someone to answer your challenge?
- 35:13Well, you got me. So Scott effectively accepts
- 35:20this challenge and and he called back to the last time he was
- 35:26defending the belt. He goes to shove Greenwood or
- 35:30shove the referee which was Greenwood on this time goes to
- 35:35kick Pele in the Dick much like he did to Riley Miles.
- 35:40However, Pele was very smart to know what was going to happen,
- 35:48grabs the boot or holds the boot of open in his hands and has him
- 35:53popping around going sweetheart you've had long enough, shut up
- 36:01and just wait for me to kick your ass.
- 36:06Olbermann takes a swing, misses Pele, then cross chops Scott in
- 36:13the chest and kind of throat area, which then has irate James
- 36:20Greenwood shouting in the face of Oberman take your jacket off
- 36:27and get ready. Which does not have the champion
- 36:30in the best of moods and then has Greenwood going on to say
- 36:36get up and get ready. Stop take wasting your time.
- 36:42So we can tell that he's pissed Greenwood off at this point.
- 36:46However, Scott does not get the opportunity because Pele mix of
- 36:51beeline for him and we get straight into this contest.
- 36:58So we have Pele doing the stratosphere kind of legs move
- 37:05where the opponent is on the top on the top rope.
- 37:10Pele kind of does the handstand legs go around the neck of his
- 37:14opponent and brings him down. Looks like Trish Stratus used
- 37:18to, hence stratosphere. However, Olbermann catches Pele
- 37:25with a throat cross chop to. Sorry, a cross chop to the
- 37:30throat of LA. I'm writing my notes like I'm
- 37:34Yoda. For some reason, Pele is gasping
- 37:38for air. Greenwood cheques on him, but
- 37:43effectively this kind of hampers Pele.
- 37:47Throughout the contest, Scott does his traditional jump on the
- 37:52back of his opponent and pose in the ring ropes.
- 37:59Oberman gets a bit cocky moving forward as he hits a shoulder
- 38:06into the gut of Pele, hits a nice spear, but can only draw a
- 38:122 count. Oberman then picks up Pele to
- 38:16hit the Spirit of the Blues, which is effectively a
- 38:20tombstone. Pele will wriggle and jiggle,
- 38:27very much like the spider in There Was an old woman who
- 38:31swallowed a fly. Pele gets out of it, uses his
- 38:36knees to drive into the head of the champion.
- 38:40Oberman then runs his shoulder. I was going to say face first,
- 38:45but shoulder first into the ring post.
- 38:49Scott throws Pele over the top row.
- 38:52Pele then does his traditional returning back into the ring
- 38:57where he stands on the ring apron front.
- 39:01Kind of leans back, enters the ring, hits a nice cutter, it has
- 39:09to be said, on Oberman. But as he goes to make the
- 39:12pinfall, Oberman slowly rolls out of the ring.
- 39:19Pele goes, hits a centon splash, misses and Olbermann then puts a
- 39:26cross faced chicken wing on Pele well down on the mat and sees
- 39:33Olbermann retaining the catch Championship.
- 39:40After the contest, Olbermann grabs the microphone and says
- 39:45that no one can stop him, he can do what he wants when he wants.
- 39:52And this is all going on while Oberman's theme music is playing
- 39:56in the background of Metallica. Nothing else matters, and as he
- 40:02goes to leave the ring, the music kind of starts skipping
- 40:08and jumps. The crowd start cheering because
- 40:13they think it's an actual technical problem.
- 40:18However, what it is alluding to is a graphic that pops up and
- 40:24has the entire room popping as at Gorilla on May 25th we will
- 40:31get Scott Oberman defending his Catch Pro Wrestling title
- 40:39against Manchester's own Luke Jacobs and also the only man
- 40:49that Oberman has not beat from the Northwest Strong Collective.
- 40:57So with all that said, Sam Digest and Cypher through what
- 41:09we have just heard. They were good in it.
- 41:24But in all seriousness, I really like what they've been doing.
- 41:33In an earlier podcast episode that was on, you said that
- 41:36you're tired of all the open challenges in the Manchester
- 41:42scene that's been going on lately.
- 41:44But with this, what Scott has been doing, I think it's a
- 41:50breath of fresh air almost in a way, because it's obviously
- 41:56meant to be Scott taking the Mick.
- 42:01It really, it really elevates his character into being a shit.
- 42:09In a house. Yeah.
- 42:11Offensive one. And Pele with an amazing catch
- 42:16debut. I really hope he sees more.
- 42:19I genuinely wonder because I believe this got booked because
- 42:24of how loud the reaction was to Pele the two weeks prior being
- 42:30cheered for is Scott's possible challenger.
- 42:33So I wonder what the original plan was going to be, because I
- 42:38doubt that it was Pele challenging Oberman.
- 42:43So I do wonder who would have been out there.
- 42:47Maybe it was going to be Jeebus that we're going to be fighting.
- 42:52I think Jeebus got it talking. Yeah, Jeebus going 10 rounds in
- 42:57the Tokyo Dome with Oberman. It it it'd be like Paul Heyman
- 43:00when he was Polly Dangerously where he used to have the the
- 43:05mobile phone that could be Jeebus.
- 43:07He just smacks Scott over the head with his mobile phone.
- 43:10Yeah. I mean.
- 43:13GB dangerously. And and on that note, they have
- 43:17released a shirt that says I'm a Jeebus guy, much insane vein of
- 43:26I'm a Paul Heyman guy. So, you know, not to be fair,
- 43:31not that I'm saying at any point that Jeebus is Paul Heyman in
- 43:37any sense, but, you know, just food.
- 43:41For thought, I will say one last note that I have.
- 43:47When Pele was getting out of the tombstone attempt, he did nearly
- 43:55knock out two of the lights while he it was flailing around
- 43:59the kicking. Well the the lights took a bit
- 44:03of a hammering on this show as Greenwood was kind of trying to
- 44:09get the the lights from swaying along.
- 44:15One of the occasions was Danny proper, which didn't help, but
- 44:19we'll we'll come to that in due course.
- 44:25We then come to the two Block B matches.
- 44:29Block B. Block B.
- 44:31Block B. And we had Tony Wright, the Adam
- 44:36Bolt and NAJ versus Danny proper.
- 44:42I haven't wrote many notes at all because I got caught up
- 44:46watching the actual matches instead of writing notes.
- 44:52But writing Bolt have a fair bit of a storied history now,
- 44:59especially when it comes to kind of like True Grit and and the
- 45:05history there two men who this rivalry I'm glad has come to the
- 45:15the other side of the Pennines, because having seen videos of
- 45:21it, it looks to be a hell of a rivalry.
- 45:27And it's almost like Wright has two big rivals in his career
- 45:32currently, one having been Scott Olbermann.
- 45:37And over the hills he's got Adam Bolt, to which Bolt is.
- 45:46I feel Bolt is very underrated on the the UK scene.
- 45:53Every time I've ever seen him on a show, he I, you could make the
- 45:58case he over delivers because he is just so good.
- 46:05And there's there's a few guys on the scene that I think are
- 46:11really good, but they perhaps don't get the the credit or the
- 46:19brakes they should do. Bolt is definitely one of those.
- 46:24I feel, especially having seen him at the big gay brunch last
- 46:30year. He had an apps.
- 46:34I think at one point he was in the in four matches on one show.
- 46:41It was something ridiculous like that.
- 46:45I think he was in the opening match, then he appeared in the
- 46:48second match, and then I think he appeared in the ladder match.
- 46:54It was a crazy day for Adam, I think it's fair to say, but this
- 47:00match both men knew each other at the back of their hands,
- 47:06counter after counter. Fascinating bout between the two
- 47:14Bolts. Character work.
- 47:16We're on the fans and just making both him and right as
- 47:23good as you can do, if not even better.
- 47:29Tony Wright doing the same for Adam.
- 47:32The crowd solely behind Tony Wright in this in this contest,
- 47:39a match that we thought was going to go to a time limit draw
- 47:45because they announced we had a minute to go.
- 47:49And even Mark Adams on commentary said he thought this
- 47:52would go to a draw and it probably went about 9 minutes
- 47:56and 4 seconds because it was very close to the last minute.
- 48:04Tony wins with the claim to fame and sees Tony Wright picking up
- 48:11a valuable win because it was really do or die for him in this
- 48:17contest. I'll do the next match and then
- 48:22we'll kind of do a quick overview of both Naj and Danny
- 48:28proper. Again, this was another this
- 48:33isn't an interesting match for different reasons.
- 48:37Danny proper looks almost like he was in.
- 48:45I'd almost say he felt a bit cocky in this, much like he he
- 48:49knew he could get the better of nay J and nay J just was almost
- 48:55trying to prove to proper that listen, I may be kind of like
- 49:00fun loving and like enthusiastic, but I'm no joke
- 49:05and I will prove that to you in this match.
- 49:08And every time it seemed proper, kind of like throwing the heavy
- 49:13lumber at his opponent. Naj always responded and a
- 49:22couple of times it looked like they were just beating the the
- 49:26hell out of each other just for the sake of it.
- 49:32It was one of the things that it was so chaotic and not a clean
- 49:40match that it almost made this even better because we had one
- 49:46moment where nature and proper just rolled around kind of
- 49:50brawling towards the back end of this contest.
- 49:55And at one point I'm thinking, are they shooting on each other
- 49:58here? Because they were properly like
- 50:01throwing the punches and kicking each other.
- 50:07This is the back end of the match again, going to the final
- 50:12minute, Naj applying a single half crab or half crab,
- 50:18whichever 1 you want to call it. And then we get the countdown
- 50:24from 10. And just as we're about to do it
- 50:28proper, who's in the middle of the ring reaching around to try
- 50:32and get free cannot do so, and if he'd held on for another 9
- 50:39seconds he would have picked up a point.
- 50:43Unfortunately, the pain was too much and he had to tap out and
- 50:49saw Naj picking up his first win in a catch pro ring and more
- 50:56importantly picking up two points in the Enigma series.
- 51:04What were your takes on these two?
- 51:09So first of all, going back to right and Bolt at the very even
- 51:16before the bell rang, Bolt got up in my face.
- 51:23Even though everyone else will be in him.
- 51:25He just thought, yad, I'm going to pick on you and he basically.
- 51:31Did I forgot about this? You know the clip from The
- 51:37Office, the proper version of The Office, where Ricky Gervais
- 51:42just goes, oh, you're hard. That's basically what Adam Bolt
- 51:46did to me. It's it was the case of you came
- 51:51up to and you chatted to him and then he kept on at you and you
- 51:57stood up. Right come on then.
- 52:00And then Bolt just stared at you and just went, oh, OK, you're
- 52:04right. It's on it.
- 52:07And then he just then he just walks away.
- 52:10And then you very much just went good and then just sat down,
- 52:16which through it I looked at John and John just thinking, I
- 52:21remember them days just starting on everyone.
- 52:28Based on the actual contest, I like the overall story they're
- 52:35telling with Block B because both matches we saw it come down
- 52:41to less than a minute left. Obviously with a proper in AJ it
- 52:46came down just to the wire, so I feel like it is setting up for
- 52:52the show free. We are going to see a time limit
- 52:55draw there somewhere because they put that into the universe.
- 53:00Now I will say at first it was weird to me that NAJ and proper
- 53:08was the main event of the show because even though proper I see
- 53:18proper as like miss the catch, you know, at this point, it
- 53:24still felt weird to go over right and bolt considering the
- 53:27history right and Bolt have maybe not in catch, but in, you
- 53:31know, other promotions, because catch does acknowledge all the
- 53:35other promotions around it and they're, you know, histories.
- 53:39So it was weird, but I feel like both matches delivered on what?
- 53:46Like we all had expectations, they delivered on them.
- 53:51They both served as really great matches to watch.
- 53:58And it just made me even more excited for the last matches
- 54:02because I believe it's right in AJ who they're picking up their
- 54:07feud again that they've had. And then it is Bolt and proper,
- 54:16which should be a fun one. And the last thing I'll say, you
- 54:21said about Danny being arrogant, but we did see NAJ signs that he
- 54:28could be a bit healish because when Danny got a knock on his
- 54:34leg and the ref were checking him, making sure Danny wants to
- 54:37continue, NAJ pushed the ref out the way.
- 54:40And that's what started the back and forth blows the ground and
- 54:45pounds. So we I liked how we saw both
- 54:49competitors could turn to the dark side, but luckily they
- 54:52didn't in this match. I think also with NAJ, again, I
- 54:58think it was that case of proving he's he wasn't a soft
- 55:02touch and he wanted to prove to proper of I am, I am a really
- 55:09good wrestler and I'm going to prove it.
- 55:12And it was the finger. And I have to, if a chance
- 55:19appears or presents itself, I will do whatever I have to do to
- 55:25win within kind of the confines of the rules.
- 55:30To use a Sonic reference for an AJ because he loves that he was
- 55:35trying to prove I am all of me. Do you have any idea what I'm
- 55:42talking about? It's all right, because if nay
- 55:44J's listening, he'll he'll get it.
- 55:48Maybe like two people. We'll put it this way, if Dean's
- 55:51watching this, he will find that massively fantastic and we'll
- 55:57probably click this, but not me. However, an interesting point is
- 56:07all four men have two points, so it really is going to the wire
- 56:15in Group sorry, in a block B. So yeah, it's interesting
- 56:25developments in both blocks. A&B We concluded the the show
- 56:35with NAJ and Proper still going head to head and kind of butting
- 56:43head, so to speak. This was until James Greenwood
- 56:47came dashing down to ringside and saying hurry, hurry, quick,
- 56:53quick, quick. You got to go.
- 56:54You've got to, you've got to come, you've got to come.
- 56:57No one knew what was going on, so you had Greenwood, Proper,
- 57:04Ref, Stew and NAJ all dashing into the well through the doors
- 57:13where all the talent was. And Mark Adams informed us that
- 57:18something serious was going on and asked if we could leave in a
- 57:25calm manner. So it's a couple of us for yeah,
- 57:33we know what this is going to be.
- 57:35And we were right. So those that haven't seen the
- 57:42Patreon and at the same time were there, we had a good idea
- 57:50that we were going to get Steen and Skinner have a a pull apart
- 57:55or something along the lines of that.
- 57:59And the two had a mini brawl in the back.
- 58:03Ended up with Skinner being thrown over the table.
- 58:08Ian responds by smashing a almost a slate over the head of
- 58:14Ettenstein. They said a brick, but I doubt
- 58:16it's a brick because it would have killed him if it was a
- 58:19brick. But smashing something over his
- 58:23head that was like pot. Steen then appear, reappears and
- 58:31has a trickle of blood going down the side of his face.
- 58:38So I suppose you could say that Skinner has drawn first blood in
- 58:44this particular encounter if you want to go that way.
- 58:50But yeah, it is shaping up very nicely.
- 58:54That little feud ahead of the dog collar match.
- 59:00What was your take? Because I think you've seen a
- 59:03couple of these videos now. Yes, seeing the varying quality
- 59:10of any camera that was in the vicinity to capture this, it was
- 59:17interesting but also a bit weird to leave it on.
- 59:24But I guess it's kind. I guess it's good they did it
- 59:27this show because if it happened with a bigger crowd, maybe they
- 59:32might not have gotten everyone out there.
- 59:35But for those who stayed behind, you got to see Ehenstein, like
- 59:42peek out of the door, just the blood still dripping down his
- 59:46face, probably seeing if Skinner had left.
- 59:52And yeah, just a nice. I reckon after this we don't
- 59:57hear anything until. Gorilla, because I that is a
- 1:00:04final note to end on is nice. The only other thing I can think
- 1:00:09of is if the pair of them in the next taping start brawling in
- 1:00:15the crowd. That's the only way that I can
- 1:00:19think that would escalate beyond this, but I doubt it considering
- 1:00:25they've got the rest of the card that they need to still fill
- 1:00:28out. Speaking of which, I'm just
- 1:00:33getting it up because I believe I'm trying to find the statement
- 1:00:39they made a couple days ago where they did announce a match
- 1:00:45for the pre show of the gorilla event if I can get it up here.
- 1:00:55So this is from Catch. Officially due to the bank
- 1:00:59holiday they have made decision to move Gimme Danger to the
- 1:01:03slightly earlier time of 4:00 PM and they will be taping an
- 1:01:07Invitational gauntlet featuring non Enigma series finalists.
- 1:01:13The main show will begin at 5. Now, we had a little bit of a
- 1:01:18debate over what the wording of this means, because originally
- 1:01:25we thought it meant anyone who wasn't in the Enigma series, but
- 1:01:31based on the wording, it's going to be anyone who isn't in the
- 1:01:37final match to crown the Enigma series winner.
- 1:01:40So that would mean 6 as how it should work, 6 of the 8
- 1:01:48competitors. But obviously if there's some
- 1:01:51tiebreakers, we don't know how they're going to sell it if
- 1:01:53people are tied on points. But if we are right, we know at
- 1:01:57the very least Kev Lloyd will be in that match because he's the
- 1:02:01only one mathematically out of a shot to win the Enigma series.
- 1:02:11So the only one we definitely know that isn't going through is
- 1:02:17going to be Lloyd. Again, it's it's hard to predict
- 1:02:27what's going to happen in block A.
- 1:02:34As we stand it looks like Keenan is going to top Group A Looking
- 1:02:40at Group B it's I mean it's going to be interesting because
- 1:02:53it's going to come down to tie Breakers really as it looks like
- 1:03:00either that all we're going to get a case of someone wins and
- 1:03:04then they try and force a draw or a disqualification.
- 1:03:09Even if they divorce, even if they force a disqualification,
- 1:03:12it would still mean they're tied with someone because the other
- 1:03:16person would still get 2 points for the win.
- 1:03:18I think it's only minus points if you're the one who gets DQ D.
- 1:03:22But if you're not involved in the match, it won't make a
- 1:03:25difference so so you could cause a draw.
- 1:03:30A double DQ meaning that that would mean one point split
- 1:03:34evenly, yeah, but that does seem like a bolt thing to do.
- 1:03:39And because it's looking like the top of Block A is going to
- 1:03:44be either Declan or Keenan depending on how their match
- 1:03:47goes, I I hesitate on saying that's where they'll take it
- 1:03:53because I doubt they'd run heal versus heal for the win.
- 1:04:01Oh, before we go then as we draw this to a close, who out of both
- 1:04:12blocks would you go for winning if you had to a winner from Evil
- 1:04:191? I would pick Keenan to win Block
- 1:04:23A and then I would go with Danny Proper to win Block B, once
- 1:04:32again denying Tony of that one-on-one match he has been
- 1:04:36hoping for since Keenan attacked him.
- 1:04:40And then I would have Northwest Strong help Keenan win the
- 1:04:44Enigma Series to challenge at the moment Big T, who still
- 1:04:54holds the GMAC? The GMAC, I think Bolt will win.
- 1:05:10I feel a part of me thinks Faust might win and we get a Faust
- 1:05:16Bolt final because it's it's going to be interesting what
- 1:05:26happens on that because say, for instance, deck beats Henry, I'm
- 1:05:34sorry, deck beats Krishna and Faust wins.
- 1:05:43I I may need to ask on tiebreakers, how you?
- 1:05:47I assume I assume the tiebreaker is going to be head to head
- 1:05:54between the two and in that case Faust would go through because
- 1:05:59I'm using football logic. If not, it'll be who had their
- 1:06:03matches. Like who had the shortest time
- 1:06:06to win Basically in the matches they won, who won in the
- 1:06:11quickest time. That would be the only two ways
- 1:06:14I can see. Or they just go a sudden death
- 1:06:17between the two. But I we won't know until they
- 1:06:21reveal the cards because if they don't plan any other matches
- 1:06:25then we could have the southern deaths.
- 1:06:28But if they are the matches, it makes it hard to tell.
- 1:06:33Because I have a booking idea, but I will tell you off air
- 1:06:41because I'm interested to see if they go down the route I'm
- 1:06:45thinking, but I will go Faust and Bolt.
- 1:06:54And then who do you have winning out of the two of them?
- 1:07:02Good question. If it was for the main title I
- 1:07:12would have Bolt going for it. If it was for the G Mac, I would
- 1:07:19go fast based on the two I've selected.
- 1:07:27So yeah, that is my my fault on it.
- 1:07:32So that nicely brings this episode to an end as we have
- 1:07:40been talking for just over an hour, which is quite good for
- 1:07:47for me recording podcasts because sometimes he's gone for
- 1:07:50nearly two hours. So we are way under budget so to
- 1:07:56speak. But I will ask the question any
- 1:08:03other business. So is there anything you would
- 1:08:06like to blog or promote? Yes, please check out Rambling
- 1:08:12about Wrestling if you want to see more of me.
- 1:08:16I have a. See.
- 1:08:21Hey, you know if money gets tight you never know.
- 1:08:26I currently have a series called Gaze Into the Future Shock where
- 1:08:29I do fantasy bookings on future Shock, but if there is an
- 1:08:35audience for it I can sneak catch into there and have it be
- 1:08:40Manchester promotions fantasy booking.
- 1:08:43I will also be doing most of the reviews or catch and future
- 1:08:50shock over there and general fun lists shortlist videos I'm
- 1:08:58hoping to get out soon. So yeah, check out Ramblin about
- 1:09:03wrestling the no G in Ramblin. Don't click on the one with AG
- 1:09:09in it. That's that's other people who
- 1:09:11got the name first, but Jack's doesn't changed it.
- 1:09:18Good old Jack. I mean for me it's pretty much
- 1:09:25Brad's grappas on everything really.
- 1:09:30I have just posted A blog piece on My Secret Love of Wrestling
- 1:09:37Part 3 to which I realised I seem to post something about it
- 1:09:43every two years. So look forward to My Secret
- 1:09:49Love of Wrestling Part 4 in 2028.
- 1:09:56Whether I'm still attending wrestling shows we don't know
- 1:10:03but we'll we'll know in two years time.
- 1:10:07However, thank you to Sam who's helped on the last two episodes.
- 1:10:15Always a joy to have you on. It's always a pleasure to be
- 1:10:18here. Welcome you back not wearing the
- 1:10:23mask, which I'm slightly disappointed on.
- 1:10:27Next feature shock show. If the horde are on I'll wear
- 1:10:30the horde mask. That's.
- 1:10:33That's that's not a threat, that's a promise.
- 1:10:36Yeah. But yes, thank you for watching
- 1:10:41if I decide to get around to posting this as the visual show.
- 1:10:47If not, thank you very much for listening.
- 1:10:50Hopefully you've enjoyed. So like subscribe, give a good
- 1:10:57comment about the podcast would be very much appreciated.
- 1:11:02Follow rambling about wrestling, Badmouth Jack, praise Sam.
- 1:11:10Jack won't watch this so it won't make a difference.
- 1:11:16Thank you very much though. If you'll go into a wrestling
- 1:11:20show anytime soon. Enjoy yourself, don't be a Dick.
- 1:11:25Most most importantly, because we don't like Dicks.
- 1:11:30But yeah, that is pretty much it.
- 1:11:34There will be a few more shows upcoming because I have a busy
- 1:11:39day tomorrow. You'll know when they come out,
- 1:11:45but thank you for listening. Goodbye.
