- 0:00Hello everyone, this is your speed strip from the Night Flight Orchestra. We're
- 0:04about to embark on an Australian tour coming up real soon. Go and get
- 0:09your tickets now, we'll see there. It's going to be a hell of
- 0:13a dance party. And you're currently listening to heavy Man Beautiful, my fantastic
- 0:18introduction. Thanks for joining us, Thanks for having me. Why so,
- 0:22as you mentioned a Night Flight Orchestra landing Australia for a run of three exclusive
- 0:26shows starting in Brisbane on August third, before maybe to Sydney in the development,
- 0:31But it's not far away. You're packed and ready to go yet,
- 0:35I guess so yeah, I mean it feels like it was not just a
- 0:38couple of weeks ago we hit Australia with Solberg, but in fact it was
- 0:41in November last year. So but anyway, regardless, this is going to
- 0:45be something completely different, you know. It's I'm really grateful that we're able
- 0:49to come to Australia with the Night Flight Orchestra and we've we feel that the
- 0:55fan base has grown a lot in Australia and so I had to poke from
- 1:00Hardland Media to try to get us over there as well. And uh yeah,
- 1:03we're definitely ready. We have a beautiful set list coming up and for
- 1:07these shows and it's going to be real special. Oh so this is the
- 1:11first time to strike. We did not plat Orchestra Mice. So question is
- 1:15why have you neglected us for so long? The good question we wanted to
- 1:19come, like you know, all those years, so many times you know
- 1:23it to Australia, but it's it's I don't know, it's uh had to
- 1:26grow grow a little bit, you know, And but we definitely felt that
- 1:30the latest years that a lot of people come up to you when you're Australia
- 1:34with soil working and sort of you know, saying like hey, when this
- 1:38night flight calling to Australia, it's like it's amazing what you do, and
- 1:41like bringing vinyls to the to these signing sessions and stuff like that. So
- 1:46we've noticed, you know, that it's been growing a lot, and now
- 1:49it's definitely the time I wish it was. I wish we did five years
- 1:52ago. But at the same time, you know, it's it's it was
- 1:55worth waiting for, I think. Yeah. So the big thing is,
- 1:57I guess what Chanels you fans expect from me and I staid of haven't seen
- 2:00it on these shows before. Well, like I mentioned before, it's going
- 2:06to be a beautiful dance party, you know, it's it's it's always a
- 2:08good time. And you know, we've been playing a lot of shows here
- 2:12in Europe and it brings it has has very much of a unifying factor,
- 2:15I would say, this band, and it brings a lot of people from
- 2:19different genres that normally wouldn't go to the same show, you know, and
- 2:23it always ends with people dancing in the end, you know, no matter,
- 2:24no matter if you're you know, wearing a beam of patch or or
- 2:30a prog if you're a prog dad, or if you're like a fifteen year
- 2:32old girl who knows all the lyrics. You know, it's it's all the
- 2:36same. It's like everybody's you know, dancing together doing the congat train and
- 2:39and you know, if you like our albums and our songs, and I
- 2:43mean, wait till we hear it live it it comes to they really come
- 2:46alive, you know for sure. It's it's it's on a whole different level.
- 2:51Yeah, and the first side of that mad like, aside from yourself,
- 2:53it's being Iva was so weak before, like the rest of the band,
- 2:57idn't really know what to expect from us honors, so you've given them
- 2:59the points before you have well, I mean it's it's it's hard to say
- 3:04to give give some pointers. I mean I think it's it's it's really you
- 3:07know, you should really come and see us, you know on these shows.
- 3:10It's it's uh, it's it's a totally different scenarios. This is music
- 3:15made to be made to be played live as well, you know. And
- 3:19and just bring your white jeans, I guess, and it danceing shoes and
- 3:23everything's gonna be okay. It's called the Death of False stry and show by.
- 3:30Can can you explain what that means? Well? I mean a R
- 3:35is this sort of a title that you know, it means album oriented rock,
- 3:38you know, and and but to us it also means airline oriented rock.
- 3:43I guess. So yeah, I mean because we we we feel that,
- 3:47you know, we really like our sound to be very organic, you
- 3:53know. And it's it's not only about being nostalgic. I think we're really
- 3:57bringing back a way of playing and composing that has been a lost art and
- 4:01unfortunately these days you hear a lot of sort of aar music that sounds way
- 4:08too processed and way too triggered and trying to fit in too much, you
- 4:13know, and we we like to keep things organic, and that's why we
- 4:17have the sort of the funny statement of death to false aar, you know.
- 4:25And it might sound a bit harsh, but you know, I'm sure
- 4:28you get the irony of it all for sure. And you recently supported Kiss
- 4:33on their part or two shows in Sweden, man like, Oh, is
- 4:35that that would have been a sensational absolutely sensational. Yeah, I mean I
- 4:41didn't know what to expect. I mean, we were just super excited,
- 4:44of course, and we got to meet the band, take pictures and shake
- 4:47hands and they were super nice and the crew was super nice as well,
- 4:53and we got a long sound check and you know what a beautiful venue too,
- 4:59doll Halla. It's it's sort of like the Red Rocks of Sweden,
- 5:01I would say, And it's sort of like a hole in the ground with
- 5:04like an amphitheater and there's like water behind the stage. It's like unbelievable spectacular.
- 5:11And Kiss were sounding absolutely fantastic too, so it was really cool to
- 5:15be a part of their very last two shows in Sweden, and and and
- 5:18and ending on such a high note. It was brilliant and ada your music
- 5:24go down with their fans like Kiss fans and notorious for not really giving a
- 5:27shit about ever else is supporting. I just say it for Kiss. But
- 5:30how'd you guys go? Yeah, exactly, That's what I expected too,
- 5:33you know. It's like, but man, people were dancing, you know,
- 5:36And we got a lot of response afterwards in social media as well,
- 5:40like wow, I've never heard of you. Guys were amazing, So it's
- 5:44they were definitely not harsh. It was. It was really nice to see
- 5:46because I didn't know what to expect. You know. It's not like I
- 5:48expected people to boo us off, but because it's not that far off from
- 5:53what Kiss is doing and and and and and partly I guess we we you
- 5:57know, we started this band based on their disco era pretty much, you
- 6:01know, and which has influenced us a lot. And uh so I think
- 6:05we got a bunch of new fans for sure. Stuff. So on that
- 6:10bit of a nostalgia trial, mate, like go back and talk a little
- 6:13bit, like you started the Night Flight Orchestra with David Anderson back in two
- 6:16thousand and seven while your tur Us with stort work. So what was that
- 6:19musical climate like back then they gave birth to the band, Like, what
- 6:23was what was your main inspiration behind doing something like this? Well, I
- 6:27mean, I would say that the idea of starting a band was born in
- 6:30two thousand and seven. It didn't really come into reality rally until I think
- 6:34it was the summer of two thousand nine, but the idea was born there.
- 6:40And then that we felt that there was something missing out there, and
- 6:44and and that you know, most retro rock bands were sounding like led Zepplin
- 6:49and Black Sabbath early sementies stuff, and we wanted to bring back sort of
- 6:54like the late seventies and early eighties because we felt that that was the golden
- 6:58era. Not saying that we were not influenced by you know, early seventies
- 7:01as well, and even later eighties stuff and even nineties stuff, but but
- 7:04that was sort of what we wanted to We wanted that to be the sort
- 7:09of foundation for it, you know, and and everything. We wanted to
- 7:13build a concept around it as well, you know, something like a soundtrack
- 7:15of being in motion that was that was Those were the sort of key things
- 7:20for us, and and we also discussed a lot and how how the band
- 7:26would look like and what's in what style and what how how you know,
- 7:29how the sound would be, how the production would be, and how what
- 7:32ingredients it should have to sort of become like a full concept. But it
- 7:39all started with us feeling like there's something missing out there, and we wanted
- 7:42to provide that for ourselves to begin with. But then, of course,
- 7:45you know, I think that people we also felt that people. I'm sure
- 7:47people don't even know that they're missing this. You know. I'd like to
- 7:53say so if I guess us the seventies and nineties, music like that would
- 7:56have been pretty easy to the first couple of albums to sort continue down that
- 8:00path. But you guys got six albums out now, I think, and
- 8:03it's still going to a strong light. But what do you put it that
- 8:05bands bands? It started in the it sounds still going up to six albums,
- 8:09but you guys out yeah, no, But I mean I think we
- 8:13constantly find find new inspiration. And I think we also managed to even though
- 8:18this band is is quite sort of full of nostalgia, it also has something
- 8:22that's very refreshing and it actually makes sense today, you know. It's something
- 8:26something timeless we believe, you know. So it's not all about like us
- 8:31trying to sound exactly like a foreigner in nineteen seventy eight and and and the
- 8:35job is done. That's not what it's about, you know. It's it's
- 8:37about providing something that is making sense today as well. And I think we've
- 8:43found quite a unique expression, you know, even though it's quite obvious,
- 8:48like where our influences come from, but it's it's a very very wide,
- 8:52like a huge palette of different genres and music and artists. It's it's not
- 8:56only it's of course a lot of the radio rock, you know, it's
- 9:00also the British scene, but there's also a lot of Abba. I'm sure
- 9:05he can here as well. I mean, who hasn't been influenced by Abbat?
- 9:09I mean but but but still I think that that's I guess something that
- 9:13separates us a bit more from from your average a or band that we have
- 9:18more influences from from from Abbat, I would say, uh and uh yeah,
- 9:24I think we we mixed it up and we found a pretty refreshing expression
- 9:30in the end, you know, and we keep being influenced from that.
- 9:33Well, I think another thing to me, I'm like, I watched a
- 9:35couple of videos to me before in the interview tonight, and you don't come
- 9:39across as being cheesy or taking the piss out of that era reviews it like
- 9:41it's is still fun, but it's you're not You're not taking a shot at
- 9:46it, You're actually living it. If that makes sense. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:50I guess, And thank you for saying that. I mean, and
- 9:52it is important. I mean, of course there's tongue in cheek. We
- 9:54make videos that has a lot of tongue in cheek, and and and and
- 9:58and but we're one hundred and serious about it. You know. We wanted
- 10:01to be like really sort of being having that balance, you know, where
- 10:07where it's okay to to to have a laugh, but the music is also
- 10:11very serious. You know. I think it's about finding a balance that people
- 10:16enjoy and that we enjoy, and that we don't have to be so damned
- 10:18serious about everything. And especially with the concept, you can build a lot
- 10:24of things around that, you know, and that's fun. It should be
- 10:26fun. And we want to provide a show like a real rock show the
- 10:30way it was meant to be and and and and you know, we have
- 10:33backup singers as well that you normally don't see in in rock bands these days.
- 10:39It was I mean even in as late as beginning of nineties you have
- 10:43Guns and Roses bringing backup singers on tour, you know, and and and
- 10:46then that kind of died, it feels like, and then it was almost
- 10:52you know, only saw it with with like more commercial pop artists, you
- 10:56know. So it's something you know, we have all these injured in there
- 11:00and together that kind of forms like a pretty unique concept, you know,
- 11:05and that is so much fun for us, and it seems like it's a
- 11:09lot of fun for the crowd too. Oh yeah, And your last two
- 11:13albums, Aromatic and Aromatic two were intended as a saga. So it's a
- 11:16saga finished shop made or is it going to be continuing in past three?
- 11:20And be honest, well, I mean I think the main reason why there
- 11:24wasn't Aromantic two was that we were not done with Aromantic one, because that's
- 11:30when right when that was released, that's when when COVID hit and we were
- 11:33out doing a European tour and we had to go home after just one week
- 11:37because they closed down France and Spain at the time, and that was,
- 11:41you know, a big anti climax obviously, and then I mean we were
- 11:45definitely not alone. There was a lot of bands out there in the same
- 11:46situation, but we felt that we were not done. And then we immediately
- 11:52started working on new songs and that shaped up to be an album and it
- 11:56felt like, h but we're not done with aromatic ones. So what do
- 11:58we do? Well, we do romantic too, so we can tour from
- 12:01both of the albums on once you know, everything opens up, so as
- 12:05simple as that. But I mean, like you mentioned, I mean there's
- 12:07sort of twin albums. You could probably put them together as a as a
- 12:11double vinyl, you know, that would make sense in the end. But
- 12:15yeah, but we're out there now playing you know, music from from both
- 12:18of the albums, so that's cool. Yeah, all right man, Well
- 12:22that's the love golfin and I thanks very much for your chime in the Night
- 12:24Flight Orchestra. Thank you August third, fourth, and fifth. So I'll
- 12:28play the tickets to sound really well, So get yourself by now before you
- 12:31miss out, and I'll see you at the Brisbane show. Looking forward.
- 12:35Thank you so much for the support. All Right, brother, enjoy your
- 12:37job. All right you two better bye.
