- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the moment man that we've all been waiting
- 0:02Speaker 1: for for in a romax.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Here comes Oscar Piastree, Lando Norrith.
- 0:07Speaker 3: They aren't playing hardball out there at the moment.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Steve peberchall Moment to twenty twenty four.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to Pit Talk, brought to you by Shannon's.
- 0:20Speaker 4: On today's episode, we're in Australian Grand Prix week and
- 0:23Speaker 4: McLaren is tipped to be favorite at the start of
- 0:26Speaker 4: this new season. And for our first episode of the season,
- 0:29Speaker 4: we're joined by former has F one team principal Guntha
- 0:33Speaker 4: Steiner to get his take on the season to come
- 0:35Speaker 4: and his new book, Unfiltered. My name is Michael Lomonato,
- 0:38Speaker 4: motorsport writer at Fox Sports Australia. It's great to have
- 0:40Speaker 4: your company and the company of my co host. His
- 0:43Speaker 4: name's Matt Clayton. You can call the team Racing Bulls
- 0:46Speaker 4: if you like, but he's femous always Minadi.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Michael.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Great to join you for another season, very very much,
- 0:51Speaker 3: looking forward to get stuck into the Australian Grand Prier.
- 0:54Speaker 3: What five days away?
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah? The clock is really to you. It feels like
- 0:56Speaker 2: it keeps up on us every year.
- 0:58Speaker 4: It is going to be a big first round, not
- 1:00Speaker 4: only because it's back in Australia, where personally I've always
- 1:03Speaker 4: felt it should be. Sometimes I disregard the first two
- 1:05Speaker 4: rounds in Barrai and Saudi Arabia. The time zone is
- 1:08Speaker 4: terrible anyway. But we are back in Australia for the
- 1:10Speaker 4: very first round of the season, and for the first
- 1:13Speaker 4: time in a long time, it feels like I've got
- 1:15Speaker 4: a genuine chance of breaking that streak of no Australians
- 1:18Speaker 4: on the podium at Australian Grandfrey. Potentially even a first winner,
- 1:22Speaker 4: an Australian winner at the Stralian Grandbery. Because MacLaren after Prieza,
- 1:24Speaker 4: isn't testing looked really competitive?
- 1:27Speaker 2: That seems to be the vibe.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Yeah, look, I think so they've got momentum from last year.
- 1:30Speaker 3: I think that's probably a key thing and I think
- 1:32Speaker 3: an underrated part in this season of so much change elsewhere.
- 1:36Speaker 3: They're one of only two teams with an unchanged driver lineup.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I think when you've got stability there and continuity results.
- 1:43Speaker 3: You look at what they did in preseason testing. They
- 1:45Speaker 3: weren't hogging lap times or really headlining things, but you
- 1:48Speaker 3: could see the inherent pace was there, The long run
- 1:51Speaker 3: pace was good. It looked like it had a good
- 1:53Speaker 3: one lap pace as well. So you mentioned that podium
- 1:57Speaker 3: drought for Australians at Albert Park and goodness, no have
- 2:00Speaker 3: come close enough. So Manys, could this finally be the year?
- 2:04Speaker 3: I think if we're looking at a favorite going into Melbourne,
- 2:06Speaker 3: it's got to be McLaren. But I think it's what's
- 2:08Speaker 3: behind them that's particularly intriguing, because I think it's a
- 2:11Speaker 3: lot murkyer. I think McLaren is pretty clearly a standout.
- 2:14Speaker 3: What happens behind them not.
- 2:15Speaker 4: So sure it just before we look at some of
- 2:17Speaker 4: those other contenders, because there's some great stories in that
- 2:19Speaker 4: front running pack, and at least Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari,
- 2:21Speaker 4: we've got a teenager at Mercedes and or Red Bull Racing,
- 2:25Speaker 4: maybe on the back foot only for twenty four months.
- 2:27Speaker 2: After absolutely dominating the sport.
- 2:29Speaker 4: But McLaren as a championship contender is really interesting because
- 2:33Speaker 4: it's almost easy to forget that they won the Constructor's
- 2:35Speaker 4: title last year.
- 2:36Speaker 2: They came from nowhere two years earlier.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Even at the beginning of last year looked sort of
- 2:40Speaker 4: fourth best thereabouts waiting for these upgrades that did eventually
- 2:43Speaker 4: change the complexion of their season. But we also saw
- 2:45Speaker 4: in the second half of the year this battle between
- 2:47Speaker 4: land and Norris and Oscar Piastrin.
- 2:49Speaker 2: And literally it wasn't on the points.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Table because Norris was quite a bit ahead of Piastri
- 2:54Speaker 4: in the second half of the season by the end
- 2:55Speaker 4: of the year, but we could see sometimes a little
- 2:58Speaker 4: bit of a challenge that bounds of power and the
- 3:00Speaker 4: team couldn't we I think of Monza where Oscar Piastri
- 3:03Speaker 4: got ahead of Landon and I was at the start
- 3:04Speaker 4: Azerbaijan when all the talkers about helping Lando and Nisa
- 3:07Speaker 4: was hum we led the flag and other examples.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Of course, how redid you feel McLaren is to challenge
- 3:12Speaker 2: for the championship in that context?
- 3:14Speaker 3: Yeah, Look, I don't know if you're ready until you're
- 3:16Speaker 3: thrown into that situation to have to deal with it live,
- 3:19Speaker 3: because last year you're fighting from a position of disadvantage,
- 3:22Speaker 3: the fact they tripped each other up a couple of times.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I mean, realistically, charl Clair one Monza because of what
- 3:26Speaker 3: happened with the McLaren drivers in the open part of
- 3:29Speaker 3: that race. But when you're doing it coming from a
- 3:31Speaker 3: fair way back. I'm not sure it matters as much
- 3:33Speaker 3: because the spotlight isn't as bright. You go into this
- 3:36Speaker 3: season points of reset, everyone expects McLaren to be the
- 3:40Speaker 3: team to be not chasing this red bull that's so
- 3:43Speaker 3: far away like they were last year. So to me,
- 3:45Speaker 3: that's the interesting part. If you've got a live championship
- 3:48Speaker 3: with these two at the front rather than chasing a
- 3:50Speaker 3: vastapen or whoever it was, that's when management's going to
- 3:54Speaker 3: have to really think on their feet here. How do
- 3:57Speaker 3: you deal with this situation where you've got the homegrown
- 4:00Speaker 3: talent like Norris who's been in there the whole time,
- 4:02Speaker 3: McClaren protege rising to a point where he's a championship contender,
- 4:06Speaker 3: and then you've got Piastric who's coming through this side
- 4:08Speaker 3: door and immediately proven that he can win races. It's
- 4:11Speaker 3: a difficult thing to manage, and they don't have the
- 4:13Speaker 3: experience of managing that for big prizes, so that's going
- 4:16Speaker 3: to be super interesting.
- 4:16Speaker 2: I think.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Yeah, we've talked a lot about in the last two years,
- 4:19Speaker 4: and especially in the last year, this development rate of
- 4:21Speaker 4: Oscar Piastri it's almost raced by race as much as
- 4:24Speaker 4: is in year on year.
- 4:25Speaker 2: But I spoke to him during the offseason.
- 4:27Speaker 4: He was talking about how much McLaren had to do
- 4:29Speaker 4: the learning last year to be, as you said, as
- 4:32Speaker 4: a front running team, and like we've seen from Oscar
- 4:35Speaker 4: as well and Lando, because of course he only won
- 4:37Speaker 4: his first Grand Prix last year.
- 4:38Speaker 2: It's not until you're really in that position.
- 4:40Speaker 4: And this goes for the team as well, that you
- 4:42Speaker 4: understand those pressures, you can have all the processes you like.
- 4:45Speaker 4: McLaren has these Papy rules. I hope a phrase we
- 4:48Speaker 4: don't hear this year, but just don't like team orders,
- 4:50Speaker 4: but come up with a better aim for it and
- 4:52Speaker 4: come please come on, Lyft.
- 4:54Speaker 2: They've got a big marketing department. They can do better.
- 4:57Speaker 4: That's what's going to be interesting is how they handle
- 4:59Speaker 4: that because if we can see who they're up against,
- 5:01Speaker 4: it's not just themselves, it's well, where do we want
- 5:04Speaker 4: to start?
- 5:04Speaker 2: We could start it. Let's start with Ferrari.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Okay, a team that maybe traditionally hasn't posed the greatest
- 5:09Speaker 4: strategic challenge to other teams. No, but he is a
- 5:12Speaker 4: team that has been getting better. Let's be fair in
- 5:14Speaker 4: the last twelve to eighteen months. Certainly under Fred Vass's
- 5:16Speaker 4: Rainers team principal, the team's become much more confident, certainly
- 5:20Speaker 4: much more competitive in the last season and six months
- 5:23Speaker 4: in particular, and they've got this motivation of Lewis Hamilton the.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Story of the year regardless of what happens.
- 5:29Speaker 4: How do you think this relationship is going to start,
- 5:31Speaker 4: because it's really smiley at the moment. Anyone who's seen
- 5:33Speaker 4: Lewis Hamilton recently, I can't remember the last time we
- 5:36Speaker 4: looked this happy.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Can't last, Canna, No, there is a honeymoon period with
- 5:41Speaker 3: these things you mentioned. Ferrari improving strategically, it's from a
- 5:44Speaker 3: fairly low base, like the basement of but it's so
- 5:48Speaker 3: interesting to see. To me, the story of this season
- 5:51Speaker 3: is not so much the intra team dynamic with Piastre
- 5:54Speaker 3: Norris Ferrari. Here you've got Charliklair, who's been the protege
- 5:58Speaker 3: and he's proven that he's probably the best one lap
- 6:01Speaker 3: driver in Formula One and he's been a proven race winner.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Now he's a Ferrari lifer. And then Lewis Hamilton comes
- 6:07Speaker 3: in at forty. This is the team. He said he's
- 6:10Speaker 3: always wanted to drive for everyone's happy. It's all fantastic.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Which one of these two gets the ascendancy is such
- 6:16Speaker 3: an interesting story because of the way it defines legacies
- 6:20Speaker 3: for either. If you're a cleer and you get to
- 6:22Speaker 3: the end of the season, it's like, well, Lewis Hamilton
- 6:23Speaker 3: came into my team and I saw him off. If
- 6:26Speaker 3: you're Hamilton and you come into Laclur's team and as
- 6:29Speaker 3: an outsider into this Ferrari family as a forty year
- 6:31Speaker 3: old and rekindle some of those past glories, it's such
- 6:34Speaker 3: an interesting inflection point for the two of them. So
- 6:37Speaker 3: to me, I think it's the off track story of
- 6:38Speaker 3: the season. But look, everyone's had to be coming to
- 6:40Speaker 3: Melbourne because no one's called a point yet. Yes, but
- 6:42Speaker 3: wait until we get to Saturday afternoon after qualifying and
- 6:45Speaker 3: somebody's aggrieved that they've been sent out at the wrong
- 6:47Speaker 3: time or something. And yes, perhaps the smiles might be
- 6:49Speaker 3: turned down.
- 6:50Speaker 2: A little bit.
- 6:50Speaker 4: It might be a bit harder for Lewis Hamilton to
- 6:52Speaker 4: sound so positively philosophical. Prix, let's talk about red bull Racing,
- 6:57Speaker 4: because well, no longer the rainy Constructors champion, but with
- 7:00Speaker 4: the raining Driver's champion in its ranks. Max Verstappen several
- 7:03Speaker 4: key moments last year in which he was very unhappy
- 7:05Speaker 4: with the state of the car and even the team.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Of course, we go back around about twelve months ago.
- 7:09Speaker 4: He's teaming up with Liam Lawson this year. A veteran
- 7:12Speaker 4: of eleven Grand Prix starts. Can't call him a rookie.
- 7:14Speaker 4: Eleven is way too many, so they say, I still
- 7:17Speaker 4: I think he's a He could give them a little
- 7:19Speaker 4: bit of slack. But there's a lot of pressure on
- 7:20Speaker 4: this team, not only because of all those rumors about
- 7:22Speaker 4: well Max Verstappen, contract break, courses of the team underperforms,
- 7:25Speaker 4: the unhappiness inside the team. I've already lost Adrian Newey.
- 7:29Speaker 4: But this was meant to be the Red Bull era,
- 7:31Speaker 4: wasn't it. Two years ago we forget won every Grand
- 7:33Speaker 4: Prix but one. We were all preparing for another two
- 7:35Speaker 4: or three years.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Of just sadness. Fuss.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Here we are looking genuinely vulnerable, perhaps as the fourth
- 7:41Speaker 4: fastest team.
- 7:42Speaker 3: It's incredible to think this time last year Red Bull
- 7:44Speaker 3: Vastapan could have won ten races in a row for
- 7:47Speaker 3: the second time in a twenty one race span. It's unbelievable.
- 7:51Speaker 3: We came here last year thinking will anyone beat this
- 7:53Speaker 3: car this season after they just about swept the field
- 7:56Speaker 3: the previous year. But to my mind, the Verstappen thing
- 7:59Speaker 3: is a blessing and a curse for that team because
- 8:01Speaker 3: I would suggest maybe that car hasn't been that fantastic
- 8:04Speaker 3: for a couple of years, but he's so good at
- 8:07Speaker 3: taking a really really sharp instrument and say, make this
- 8:10Speaker 3: car as difficult as you possibly can make it. If
- 8:12Speaker 3: it's faster, I will extract the pace out of it.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And it's not so much what Max does in it,
- 8:17Speaker 3: it's what the guy in the other car doesn't do.
- 8:20Speaker 3: And I think you saw last year as that car
- 8:21Speaker 3: got more and more difficult, Sergeia Perez's form flat lined
- 8:24Speaker 3: and then nose dived and it costs them. I mean,
- 8:27Speaker 3: didn't even finish in the top two in the constructors,
- 8:28Speaker 3: which is insane. So to my mind, it's not so
- 8:31Speaker 3: much what Vastappan does with his car, it's what can
- 8:33Speaker 3: Lin Lawson do with this car as a baseline, because
- 8:36Speaker 3: if he's struggling, maybe not to the extent as Perez was.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Like you said, he's done eleven races, so there's a
- 8:42Speaker 3: lot of question marks still that he can handle this.
- 8:45Speaker 3: He's the best option they had at the time to
- 8:48Speaker 3: put in that car. They probably should have had car
- 8:49Speaker 3: well sigence, but that's another story. But he's the best
- 8:52Speaker 3: option for now. But it's his baseline to me that
- 8:55Speaker 3: dictates whether Red Bull can fight with McLaren and with
- 8:59Speaker 3: Mistake at the front and possibly and possibly with Redborm.
- 9:03Speaker 3: We have to see, but there's a lot of questions
- 9:05Speaker 3: for the lawson, for me and to me that determines
- 9:07Speaker 3: where Red Bull season goes.
- 9:08Speaker 4: Yeah, and whether or not points scored in the Constructors
- 9:10Speaker 4: Championship influences contractual decisions, well, that could be really potentially
- 9:14Speaker 4: quite costly for Red Bull Racing. Let's talk briefly about
- 9:16Speaker 4: Mercedes before, of course we talk about Jack doing the
- 9:18Speaker 4: other Australian making, not his debut in Australia, his Australian debut.
- 9:22Speaker 4: We can call it that a teenager at Mercedes has
- 9:24Speaker 4: replaced Lewis Hamilton outbound is a foty year old incoming.
- 9:27Speaker 4: He's an eighteen year old. He's though regarded as potentially
- 9:31Speaker 4: the next great thing. I know a lot of teams
- 9:32Speaker 4: think that their next drivers are the next great thing,
- 9:34Speaker 4: but the hype around him Israel has been super fast
- 9:37Speaker 4: tracked through the junior formula to get to Formula one,
- 9:39Speaker 4: skip Formula three entirely didn't even have a full season
- 9:42Speaker 4: the F two under his belt when he was signed.
- 9:44Speaker 4: In fact, he skipped the last couple of races as
- 9:45Speaker 4: well as he didn't even have the full season under
- 9:47Speaker 4: his belt. He's up against George Russell, alongside George Russe,
- 9:50Speaker 4: who's established now, and I feel like towards the end
- 9:52Speaker 4: of last year we've got a sense that he can
- 9:54Speaker 4: be that real title contender.
- 9:55Speaker 2: He's got a little bit more of an edge about
- 9:57Speaker 2: him now.
- 9:57Speaker 4: But really intriguing because I get the sense that they
- 10:00Speaker 4: didn't think there was going to be anything on the
- 10:02Speaker 4: line this season, but preseason testing kind of suggested there
- 10:05Speaker 4: might be some regular wins here.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Look, I think with an asterisk, there's two things for me.
- 10:10Speaker 3: You mentioned very fast and Antonelli in the same sentence.
- 10:12Speaker 3: That's something we're going to say a lot. I also
- 10:14Speaker 3: think he might hit a lot of stationary objects, Michael,
- 10:17Speaker 3: because particularly a track like Albert Park for your first
- 10:20Speaker 3: ever Formula one Grand Prix. He is a really difficult
- 10:22Speaker 3: street circuit super quick. Walls are super close. If I
- 10:26Speaker 3: was putting money on who might be first in the
- 10:27Speaker 3: fence over the course of the weekend, it'd be fairly
- 10:29Speaker 3: strong towards Antonelli, I think. So I don't think he's
- 10:32Speaker 3: going to lack for speed. We saw what he did
- 10:33Speaker 3: in that FP one session at Monza last year where
- 10:36Speaker 3: he was incredibly rapid for one lap and then hit
- 10:38Speaker 3: the fence on the second one, So I think he's
- 10:39Speaker 3: going to be super quick. You mentioned Russell being a
- 10:42Speaker 3: team leader. I think that's something he's really grown into.
- 10:44Speaker 3: It seems to suit him well to my mind. The
- 10:47Speaker 3: asterisk on preseason testing Bahrain was randomly very cool, and
- 10:51Speaker 3: we saw last year that Mercedes were very very good
- 10:55Speaker 3: when it was cold. You think Las Vegas, they looked
- 10:57Speaker 3: like they should have won the Constructors Championship last year.
- 10:59Speaker 3: They were unbelievable that race. It was freezing cold, and
- 11:02Speaker 3: so anyone that's been in Melbourne for the past week
- 11:04Speaker 3: is roasting for earlier here in Melbourne, and I know
- 11:07Speaker 3: the forecast is temper again a little bit for the weekend,
- 11:10Speaker 3: but to me, that's the question mark is that trait
- 11:12Speaker 3: in Mercedes car is awesome in cold conditions a bit
- 11:15Speaker 3: maybe not so much in the warm weather. That could
- 11:18Speaker 3: bring that optimism back a little bit. Nothink.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Before we move on, we've got to talk about Jack
- 11:22Speaker 4: Doo and of course making his full season debut. Let's
- 11:25Speaker 4: call it maybe with an Astris at Alpe this weekend
- 11:28Speaker 4: in Melbourne.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I say with an Astres because really the story.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Around him isn't that he's embarking on this first full
- 11:34Speaker 4: time season, and not even that he's the son of
- 11:36Speaker 4: a five time five hundred cc motorcycle champion. I guess
- 11:39Speaker 4: he's probably happy he's shaken that tag. He's there on
- 11:40Speaker 4: his own ride. But the rumor is actually that he's
- 11:43Speaker 4: only got a few races, perhaps so as few as
- 11:45Speaker 4: a handful of races to prove himself. That takes him
- 11:47Speaker 4: to the end of April before the team considers putting
- 11:50Speaker 4: reserve driver Franco Colopinto in the car. You will remember
- 11:53Speaker 4: Colopinto last year made his debut at Williams just after
- 11:55Speaker 4: the mid season break, replacing Logan Sergeant there and scored
- 11:59Speaker 4: point and see something that Sargonal wasn't able to do
- 12:01Speaker 4: all season was really impressive. If to take back on
- 12:06Speaker 4: that phrase is fast but probably crash prone. It will
- 12:08Speaker 4: quite a few crashes towards the end of last season.
- 12:10Speaker 4: The speed's clearly there. There's a lot of pressure on Doing.
- 12:13Speaker 4: The team doesn't really want to say anything, and I
- 12:15Speaker 4: mean that they're not even pretending that's not the case.
- 12:17Speaker 4: They're really trying to say as little as possible about
- 12:19Speaker 4: this situation. This is the worst way to make your homecoming.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Surely, it's a super tough gig because it feels that
- 12:26Speaker 3: there's only one outcome here. It feels that we're all
- 12:29Speaker 3: telling variations of the same story, and both of us
- 12:31Speaker 3: have written basically the same story for various people over
- 12:33Speaker 3: the past week. But it's incredibly harsh. On someone who
- 12:38Speaker 3: has come through the Alpine Academy. It feels like he
- 12:42Speaker 3: may not get a chance to prove himself and it
- 12:45Speaker 3: may not even matter what he does in these first
- 12:46Speaker 3: few races, because you look at what Alpine's done here,
- 12:49Speaker 3: They've hired.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Someone that possibly is as quick.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I think Doing had a better junior career coming into
- 12:53Speaker 3: Formula one than Colo Pinto did, But you know I
- 12:56Speaker 3: like him that this morning, to imagine having you work
- 12:58Speaker 3: all your life to get your dream job and then
- 13:00Speaker 3: the team immediately hires someone who's just as qualified as
- 13:02Speaker 3: you and also has a very large sack of money
- 13:04Speaker 3: that they can bring from sponsors and just sit over
- 13:07Speaker 3: there and I know you'll find just carry on, so
- 13:09Speaker 3: a huge amount of pressure. I think it would probably
- 13:11Speaker 3: be worse for Jack if this was his actually left
- 13:14Speaker 3: one debut. The fact that he got to debut at
- 13:15Speaker 3: Abi Dhabi last year sort of in the anonymity of
- 13:18Speaker 3: just driving around in the midfield. He's good from a
- 13:20Speaker 3: procedural point of view, but such a such a tough
- 13:23Speaker 3: gig and I hope that look he's a pretty switched on,
- 13:26Speaker 3: very hard work and determined young guy has got there
- 13:29Speaker 3: on merit. Let's just hope he gets a chance to
- 13:31Speaker 3: prove himself before something else happens.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah, it feels like the power is probably still in
- 13:36Speaker 4: his hands. I mean the end of the day in Tummans,
- 13:37Speaker 4: he's so everything. Absolutely he's the one in the car
- 13:40Speaker 4: getting results. So hopefully a good debut debut this weekend
- 13:43Speaker 4: in Australia and the next couple of races will be
- 13:45Speaker 4: enough to get him. Well, I've got to hope at
- 13:47Speaker 4: least until the end of the season, so confident and
- 13:49Speaker 4: he would have an established career from there.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Well, interesting to see.
- 13:52Speaker 4: That's this weekend of the Australian Grand Prix and the
- 13:54Speaker 4: lead up to this weekend's race. We got up with Gundesteiner,
- 13:58Speaker 4: the former Harsh team boss and you know who he is.
- 14:00Speaker 4: You're listening to this podcast, you're watching you know Gundesteiner is.
- 14:03Speaker 4: He's written his second book.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Believe it or not.
- 14:05Speaker 4: It's called Unfiltered. In fact, he's taking it on a
- 14:08Speaker 4: speaking tour called Unfiltered Live tickets which you can still
- 14:11Speaker 4: get for Newcastle, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Brisbane. We had
- 14:13Speaker 4: a chat about his expectations with the season to come,
- 14:16Speaker 4: also his experience of moving out of the F one
- 14:19Speaker 4: paddock and the pressures of always being in Formula one
- 14:21Speaker 4: and his expectations again for the season, and of course
- 14:24Speaker 4: that swearing band comes up, believe it or not.
- 14:27Speaker 2: So let's get into that.
- 14:28Speaker 1: It's good to see you, thanks for having me.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Now I want to start. Of course, we're leading up
- 14:34Speaker 4: to the Australian Grand Prix. Everyone's excited for Formula one
- 14:36Speaker 4: to return, and certainly hear everyone's excited for Australia to
- 14:39Speaker 4: be the first race again. But tell me what it's
- 14:42Speaker 4: like to be running a team with this time of year.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Is it excitement? Is a nervousness seeing where teams are
- 14:46Speaker 4: going to stack up? Or is it all actually just
- 14:48Speaker 4: about bracing for the twenty four hour flight down to Melbourne.
- 14:52Speaker 1: It's all effect what you just said, you know, so no, no,
- 14:55Speaker 1: the biggest thing is to first rese the year. Obviously the.
- 15:00Speaker 5: Was last last week in Bahrain, so people know roughly
- 15:03Speaker 5: where they are. But coming to the first races always
- 15:08Speaker 5: the hopes hi uh, you know, we have full of
- 15:11Speaker 5: energy because you haven't been racing for a while and
- 15:14Speaker 5: you just look forward to go to the first race.
- 15:17Speaker 5: And this year being Australia again the first race, it's
- 15:21Speaker 5: quite good because people like that always. You know, as
- 15:24Speaker 5: you said, it's a long flight so but it's good
- 15:28Speaker 5: to come here. If you think most of the teams
- 15:30Speaker 5: are from the UK, so the weather is normally a
- 15:32Speaker 5: lot better here than over there, so you know, it's
- 15:35Speaker 5: a people love to come here.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Now.
- 15:38Speaker 3: We're very happy Gunta that it is back in. It's
- 15:41Speaker 3: a rightful place on the Formula One calendar. As we
- 15:43Speaker 3: like to call it, but you mentioned pre season testing
- 15:45Speaker 3: there and on that Australian theme, it does very much
- 15:48Speaker 3: look like McClaren is going to start the season as favorite,
- 15:52Speaker 3: which you know it means both Mana Noris and Oscar
- 15:54Speaker 3: Piastri could very well be title contenders. We know that
- 15:57Speaker 3: they're up against some very big recent title winners Stappen, Lewis, Hamilton,
- 16:01Speaker 3: Red Bull Mersidies. But in your view, how do you
- 16:04Speaker 3: think Landou and more particularly for our audience, Oscar are
- 16:08Speaker 3: going to stand up under the pressure of that possible
- 16:11Speaker 3: first genuine title fight this season.
- 16:15Speaker 5: I mean, I think you're right McLaren is the favorite
- 16:18Speaker 5: after Barrain. It is, I mean, everybody's in the opinion.
- 16:21Speaker 5: It's that they will be the team to be this year.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I think they will be okay, because they got a
- 16:26Speaker 5: lot of it last year. You know, when middle in
- 16:28Speaker 5: the season, all of a sudden they started to win races,
- 16:31Speaker 5: and not only by default but by actually being the
- 16:34Speaker 5: best team on the grid. And out of that they
- 16:37Speaker 5: learned and they are a lot better prepared this year
- 16:40Speaker 5: to go for both world championships, not only one only
- 16:43Speaker 5: you know, only one like last year. Uh So I
- 16:47Speaker 5: think they go in there ready and well prepared, you know,
- 16:50Speaker 5: mentally as an organization, the McLaren know now is that
- 16:55Speaker 5: they that they are the favorite that they need to
- 16:57Speaker 5: deliver off. So I think they will be pretty happy
- 17:00Speaker 5: to go in there with that altitude.
- 17:03Speaker 3: It's an incredibly even driver lineup as well. We saw
- 17:06Speaker 3: that towards the second half of last year for a time,
- 17:09Speaker 3: so you know, you've obviously had the team principals had
- 17:11Speaker 3: on yourself. How do you think a team like that
- 17:14Speaker 3: is set up to handle a potential rivalry between two drivers,
- 17:17Speaker 3: neither of whom have won a World championship. It's been
- 17:19Speaker 3: a long time since McLaren won a driver's World Championship.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Do you think that's going to be a narrative that
- 17:23Speaker 3: we see play out within that team this year.
- 17:26Speaker 5: I think they're well prepared and what I think they
- 17:28Speaker 5: will do, they will be clear, don't don't run into
- 17:31Speaker 5: each other, but let's go, let's race, and then at
- 17:35Speaker 5: some stage in the season, which normally I think it
- 17:38Speaker 5: would be after the summer break, they will say, whoever
- 17:41Speaker 5: is in a better position, let's try to win the
- 17:43Speaker 5: World championship. If anybody else can contend for it, obviously,
- 17:46Speaker 5: if it is just the two of them, I think
- 17:48Speaker 5: then they let them raise it to the end, you
- 17:50Speaker 5: know so. But they're both drivers with a good head
- 17:53Speaker 5: on their shoulders, so I think they've got that. You said,
- 17:56Speaker 5: a very strong driver lineup, but also very much you
- 18:00Speaker 5: are in death sense, dive a lineup.
- 18:04Speaker 4: You're a man who's got I suppose a couple of catchphrases.
- 18:06Speaker 4: After your decade in Formula one, where did you rank
- 18:09Speaker 4: the phrase Papaya rules in the list of phrases You've heard.
- 18:13Speaker 1: A lot of budshit.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Uh you said that we thought it exactly, yeah, exactly, yeah,
- 18:21Speaker 5: because I never found out what it is, said, they asked,
- 18:24Speaker 5: zachd Actually you know what is it?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Then?
- 18:26Speaker 5: Our rules?
- 18:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you know what it was of Yes, yeah, Like.
- 18:32Speaker 4: I want to attack a little bit because the other
- 18:34Speaker 4: really big story of this year is of course going
- 18:35Speaker 4: to be Lewis Hamilton, where he has joined Ferrari now
- 18:38Speaker 4: and there's been a lot made about the transition he's
- 18:41Speaker 4: going to have to undergo to become a Ferrari driver
- 18:43Speaker 4: after so many years at Mercedes and maybe more to
- 18:45Speaker 4: the point, so many years with British teams, and you've
- 18:48Speaker 4: known Ferrari quite well through the partnership it had with Hears.
- 18:52Speaker 4: How do you think that's going to go And do
- 18:53Speaker 4: you think that I suppose culture with element is a
- 18:55Speaker 4: little bit overplayed when we're talking about Lewis Hamilton adjusting
- 18:58Speaker 4: to life in Marinello.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 19:02Speaker 5: I think you have to just because Ferrari were not
- 19:04Speaker 5: adjust to you. You know, Ferrari had a lot of
- 19:06Speaker 5: big drivers and the team culture never changed. I would say,
- 19:11Speaker 5: But I think Louis is smart enough to know that,
- 19:14Speaker 5: and he will try to adjust to the culture. Obviously
- 19:18Speaker 5: not always the easiest thing to do, especially if you
- 19:20Speaker 5: think that Charles let Clerk speaks fluent Italian is there
- 19:24Speaker 5: a long time, grew up in that environment, so he
- 19:27Speaker 5: needs to put some work in. But you know, Louis
- 19:31Speaker 5: knows that and he just needs to work at it.
- 19:33Speaker 5: But I'm sure he's not going to try to change
- 19:36Speaker 5: the culture there to his what he's used to, because
- 19:39Speaker 5: that's not going to happen.
- 19:41Speaker 4: You've been in not just Formula one for all, We've
- 19:43Speaker 4: got a big motor sports background, obviously having started in rallying.
- 19:47Speaker 4: The story with Lewis and Ferrari is a seven time champion,
- 19:50Speaker 4: mading the most successful team in Formula One history. If
- 19:53Speaker 4: you were to win the title this year or in
- 19:55Speaker 4: the next couple of years with Ferrari, where do you
- 19:57Speaker 4: think that would rank in terms of more the sport significance?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Very high?
- 20:03Speaker 5: I mean going in there coming from a seven time
- 20:05Speaker 5: world champion, and then if he wins at winning eight
- 20:09Speaker 5: world championships, which is a record nobody else has done that,
- 20:12Speaker 5: I think that would go into history.
- 20:14Speaker 1: But also Ferrari hasn't won a World.
- 20:17Speaker 5: Championship as a team in a long time, so just
- 20:19Speaker 5: winning it again in the Ferrari and in Italy would
- 20:25Speaker 5: put him at a complete different level.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Now I want to get you to put you I
- 20:29Speaker 4: suppose a man manager had on for one of a
- 20:32Speaker 4: better phrase. It is an element of being a team principal.
- 20:35Speaker 4: How do you think Charlotteclair, who was previously for our
- 20:38Speaker 4: his golden child. You know, the future of the team
- 20:41Speaker 4: will be handling being really so comprehensively overshadowed by Lewis
- 20:45Speaker 4: Hamilton's arrival. And we've already talked quite a lot about Lewis.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Everyone's talking about Lewis. No one's talking about the guy
- 20:50Speaker 4: that finished last year. Really strongly. What would you have
- 20:53Speaker 4: to do to make sure he's not feeling like he's
- 20:56Speaker 4: left out of the situation.
- 20:58Speaker 5: No, I think Charles that he's the long future for
- 21:01Speaker 5: Ferrari because he's so much young, or he has got
- 21:03Speaker 5: a long future there. And I think for Charles an
- 21:05Speaker 5: opportunity because being in a team with a seven time
- 21:08Speaker 5: world champions always good. You can learn something from him,
- 21:11Speaker 5: because winning a championship is not only being fast in
- 21:14Speaker 5: a rasca, is also being smart and doing a very
- 21:18Speaker 5: good job in a long race. So I think Charles
- 21:21Speaker 5: will take it, you know. I try to learn as
- 21:24Speaker 5: much as possible for the time Louis is there a
- 21:27Speaker 5: short term. Obviously, Louis took over the headlines, but Louis
- 21:31Speaker 5: hasn't won anything for Ferrari yet, while Charles has won
- 21:34Speaker 5: races for them, So I don't think he's downbeat about it.
- 21:37Speaker 5: I mean, he knows that Louis is a big name,
- 21:39Speaker 5: won seven championships and that the headlight is on him now.
- 21:43Speaker 5: But if Child then beats him, for example, that's even
- 21:46Speaker 5: better for Charles. So I think he just will take
- 21:49Speaker 5: a little bit of time and then he can show
- 21:51Speaker 5: what he can do. But I don't think it bumps
- 21:54Speaker 5: him out now.
- 21:55Speaker 3: It's a fascinating story that one, no matter which of
- 21:58Speaker 3: those two extremes applies out. As you said, But let's
- 22:01Speaker 3: switch to we're talking about Australian drivers before let's talk
- 22:04Speaker 3: about the one who's not on the grid this year.
- 22:06Speaker 3: With Daniel Ricardo being out of the sport for good
- 22:08Speaker 3: this time, you would think, and I wanted to ask you, like,
- 22:11Speaker 3: what's the adjustment like from being right in the thick
- 22:15Speaker 3: of f one like you were and like Daniel was,
- 22:18Speaker 3: to being an outsider? And I'm using air quotes here.
- 22:20Speaker 3: You know you're not in the cut and thrust of
- 22:22Speaker 3: the day to day. How is it for you? Because
- 22:24Speaker 3: we talked about you being busy, but it's a different
- 22:26Speaker 3: sort of busy and a different sort of pressure.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, No, I.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Adopted very good. I like what I'm doing.
- 22:34Speaker 5: You know, as you said, I went out from one
- 22:36Speaker 5: seat into the next seat, so I had no time
- 22:39Speaker 5: in between to even think about it. It was it
- 22:41Speaker 5: wasn't my plan to do this what they did last year.
- 22:45Speaker 5: All the work I did so, but I enjoying it.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Otherwise I wouldn't do it. And it keeps the formula on.
- 22:52Speaker 5: But everybody's different than Danny after he left last year.
- 22:57Speaker 5: I don't think he came place yet. I don't know
- 22:59Speaker 5: if he's coming to Melbourne or not to the race,
- 23:02Speaker 5: but it's different and if he wants to take some
- 23:05Speaker 5: time off, because that was my initiative plan to take
- 23:07Speaker 5: some time off just to do a little bit of
- 23:09Speaker 5: what I wanted to do. And then people ask me
- 23:11Speaker 5: to do things and I did them and I enjoy them.
- 23:15Speaker 5: But you know, as you say, it's a different pressure.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Obviously it's not the high pressure like when you have
- 23:21Speaker 5: to when you go out qualifying or racing, but it's
- 23:23Speaker 5: still it's still a pressure. But it's good to be
- 23:25Speaker 5: around in the puddle. Can just not have to go
- 23:28Speaker 5: to all the races. You can go where you want
- 23:30Speaker 5: to go. You can decide yourself.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Of course.
- 23:34Speaker 3: The other thing for you now is you don't get
- 23:36Speaker 3: that competitive time every one or two weeks depending on
- 23:39Speaker 3: the calendar. You don't get that competitive each to scratch. Now,
- 23:42Speaker 3: so how have you replaced that adrenaline side, because obviously
- 23:46Speaker 3: you know everything's so busy as a team principle, there
- 23:49Speaker 3: is a race every week or two weeks throughout the
- 23:50Speaker 3: season where you get to see where you stack up.
- 23:53Speaker 3: So how do you personally scratch that competitive each now that.
- 23:56Speaker 5: You're not involved on the inside, I'm pretty fine with
- 23:59Speaker 5: the you know, not having that a bread alain and no,
- 24:04Speaker 5: it's nice. The biggest thing is on a race weekend
- 24:08Speaker 5: when the cast we out for qualifying. That's the only
- 24:10Speaker 5: a few minutes you think are that would be cool.
- 24:12Speaker 5: But then it's just like you watch what other people
- 24:15Speaker 5: are doing. It's nice to be the spectator sometimes.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Well you've spent is an element you touched on your
- 24:22Speaker 4: book as well that I sort of thought was interesting.
- 24:24Speaker 4: The first couple of chapters the latest book, of course, Unfiltered,
- 24:26Speaker 4: talking about setting up the Hearts team, which was more
- 24:30Speaker 4: than a decade ago. Now you're doing that preparatory work,
- 24:32Speaker 4: and you were talking about how different Formula one was
- 24:35Speaker 4: then compared to now you've seen it in its current
- 24:38Speaker 4: super popular era where everyone wants to talk about Formula one,
- 24:41Speaker 4: races are selling out regularly, all that kind of thing.
- 24:44Speaker 4: But also it's decidedly less culturally relevant, very much less
- 24:49Speaker 4: popular era a decade or so ago. I'm interested in
- 24:53Speaker 4: your perception of how that's evolved from inside the sport.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Obviously you were there for that full decade. And also
- 24:57Speaker 4: how important the likes of big characters are to the sport.
- 25:01Speaker 4: We're talking about Daniel, he was obviously one of them.
- 25:03Speaker 4: You obviously made a massive name for yourself as someone
- 25:06Speaker 4: who transcends the sport to a little bitter fright. It's
- 25:08Speaker 4: how important is it. I have those characters been to
- 25:11Speaker 4: formud on becoming the sport we know today.
- 25:15Speaker 5: I think they were an element in it, But I
- 25:18Speaker 5: think the biggest thing was that the sport was brought
- 25:22Speaker 5: to more people, obviously to drive to survive in the pandemic.
- 25:27Speaker 5: When Formula one was the first sport again going live again,
- 25:31Speaker 5: people was watching it. So as you said, the Formula
- 25:34Speaker 5: one has changed quite a bit from ten to fifteen
- 25:37Speaker 5: years ago to what it is now. But internally it's
- 25:40Speaker 5: just I think it made it better. It's better organized,
- 25:44Speaker 5: better structures. The team are normally financially a lot better
- 25:48Speaker 5: off now than they were ten years ago than years ago.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Very few race teams made money now. I think if
- 25:54Speaker 5: they're not profitable, they break even most of them. And
- 25:58Speaker 5: what that does it gives secure to the people which
- 26:01Speaker 5: worked out that the we'd have a job in the
- 26:04Speaker 5: foreseable future, which is always good if people have got security,
- 26:08Speaker 5: job security. So it has changed, but it was a
- 26:11Speaker 5: lot of elements coming together or to make it what
- 26:13Speaker 5: it is.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Now, and it's amazing what it has become. I mean,
- 26:17Speaker 3: I think if we've spoken to you eight years ago,
- 26:19Speaker 3: you wouldn't have been thinking, oh, I've written two books
- 26:21Speaker 3: by now and you've got this life that you have
- 26:23Speaker 3: these days. But I did want to ask you about
- 26:25Speaker 3: that because you may remember going to last year, we
- 26:27Speaker 3: were doing something at the Australian Grand Prix for one
- 26:29Speaker 3: of the corporates and you were just being hounded by
- 26:33Speaker 3: everybody so much before we started that, I actually found
- 26:35Speaker 3: you hiding in a bathroom. So that was something that
- 26:38Speaker 3: you probably wouldn't imagine would have been life about eight
- 26:40Speaker 3: or ten years ago. But do you ever look at
- 26:42Speaker 3: this sometimes? And I know you don't watch Striveters of
- 26:45Speaker 3: ib that's one of your things that you've always said.
- 26:46Speaker 3: But you never could have believed that life would have
- 26:49Speaker 3: turned out like this with the way things have gone
- 26:51Speaker 3: over the past ten years. Could you No?
- 26:53Speaker 5: No, absolutely, And I think nobody could blunt something like this.
- 26:58Speaker 5: This is things just happening. You know, you're just a
- 27:00Speaker 5: passenger on these things, you know, so uh, and they
- 27:04Speaker 5: come along and that, as you said, I would have
- 27:06Speaker 5: never fail to write one book never mind, do you know?
- 27:09Speaker 5: So I deem selling them, but maybe writing them, but
- 27:11Speaker 5: not selling them. You know, anybody wanted to read them?
- 27:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 27:14Speaker 1: So No, it's it's it's very as you said, it
- 27:17Speaker 1: came out by surprise, you know.
- 27:20Speaker 4: I want to ask, and I know you've been getting
- 27:21Speaker 4: a lot of questions about this. Can't imagine why, but
- 27:24Speaker 4: I fi is contemplating a swearing band in formula one. Now,
- 27:27Speaker 4: I was reading your book and I was interested to
- 27:29Speaker 4: hear that you already live under a bit of a
- 27:30Speaker 4: swearing band at home.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I can't imagine how that looks out for you.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So is there is there a home gunter and at
- 27:37Speaker 4: work gunter, and ironically the one at work is swearing more.
- 27:40Speaker 2: How's that happening?
- 27:41Speaker 5: Absolutely? Absolutely that is happening, you know. So yeah, no,
- 27:46Speaker 5: But but I think what you see there, it's under
- 27:51Speaker 5: when it's under pressure, you know, in just emotions get
- 27:54Speaker 5: get told of you you and and you do things
- 27:56Speaker 5: which you normally don't do.
- 27:58Speaker 1: But no, no, it's too different ones. You're absolutely right
- 28:01Speaker 1: with that one.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Do you think they're gonna be alple to pull off
- 28:05Speaker 2: this swearing band this year?
- 28:07Speaker 1: I mean they bullet off and then who wants to
- 28:10Speaker 1: spend these amounts of money? You know, just bye bye?
- 28:14Speaker 5: But you know it's I hope it doesn't take out,
- 28:17Speaker 5: you know, if the emotions what the driver have got,
- 28:19Speaker 5: you know, and controlling too much because it's a it's
- 28:24Speaker 5: it's it's I mean, is it good if somebody swears no?
- 28:27Speaker 5: But this is this bad as as it is made
- 28:29Speaker 5: out of the be no as well in my opinion.
- 28:32Speaker 5: You know, it's a sport lists from emotions. People want
- 28:36Speaker 5: to see emotions, want to see characters and you know,
- 28:40Speaker 5: if if there is no there's no emotions in it,
- 28:43Speaker 5: you know we can have machines going around the acetrack.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Certainly we don't want that. Good there.
- 28:48Speaker 4: It's been a pleasure if anyone wants to catch you.
- 28:51Speaker 4: There's still tickets left to Unfiltered live and the show's
- 28:53Speaker 4: coming up or in Newcastle, Melbourne, the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Of course, you can buy the book Unfiltered from all
- 28:59Speaker 4: good retailers. One question before you go. You mentioned when
- 29:02Speaker 4: you got that famous call from Gen you were buying
- 29:04Speaker 4: some ham?
- 29:04Speaker 2: What was the ham? And did you buy it in
- 29:06Speaker 2: the end or did you go home empty handed?
- 29:08Speaker 4: No?
- 29:08Speaker 1: I bought some and I.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Thank you God. Enjoy your trip down to Australia and
- 29:15Speaker 2: we'll talk it too.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Thank you guys.
- 29:17Speaker 4: That was former Haas F one team Bosklin the Stegner
- 29:20Speaker 4: of course, and again it's unfiltered Live is his book.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Tour speaking to her.
- 29:24Speaker 4: It's hard to believe only a few years ago he'd
- 29:26Speaker 4: said that that's what he's up to these days. It's Newcastle, Melbourne,
- 29:29Speaker 4: Gold Coast and Brisbane. You can still get some tickets.
- 29:31Speaker 4: There are only a few available, so if you want
- 29:33Speaker 4: to go and see them, I would advise you get
- 29:34Speaker 4: online and get those tickets now. But now let's change
- 29:36Speaker 4: things up a little bit. So I'm interested in playing
- 29:38Speaker 4: a new games, new season.
- 29:39Speaker 2: The podcast what have you got for me? Interested versus
- 29:42Speaker 2: expert is what I'm going to call it. Okay, Now, look,
- 29:44Speaker 2: we both know a lot about motorsport.
- 29:46Speaker 4: F one obviously is the main situation here on Pittalk,
- 29:49Speaker 4: but we do like our supercars and Moto GPE. But
- 29:52Speaker 4: maybe the game here is to guess who's interested in
- 29:54Speaker 4: who's the expert? I think the experts probably going to
- 29:56Speaker 4: be answering questions at this point, right, it's to do
- 29:58Speaker 4: it the other way around.
- 29:59Speaker 2: It's probably a little bit well given, given.
- 30:01Speaker 3: I'm interested rather than the experts. Shall we start off
- 30:04Speaker 3: with some supercars?
- 30:05Speaker 2: Perhaps? Okay?
- 30:06Speaker 3: And we what we're one round into the season. We
- 30:10Speaker 3: already have a driver change.
- 30:11Speaker 4: Ye, silly season never stops, does it, regardless of what
- 30:14Speaker 4: sport you're involved in. And Darren Love has left the
- 30:16Speaker 4: Blanchard Races and according to them, on his terms, he's
- 30:19Speaker 4: decided to leave after one round and three races. He's
- 30:23Speaker 4: been replaced by Aaron Cameron. This has been building up
- 30:26Speaker 4: for a little while. His debut season last season is
- 30:28Speaker 4: this is almost the theme of the podcast. Very quick,
- 30:31Speaker 4: but sometimes hits start right, Yeah, may be the bottom
- 30:36Speaker 4: of the show.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Got to hit some things before the show's finished. Unfortunately.
- 30:39Speaker 4: The last thing you hit was his teammate James Cortney
- 30:42Speaker 4: in warm up for qualifying. I remember this in Sydney
- 30:46Speaker 4: for round one, of course, at Sydney Motorsport Park. Both
- 30:49Speaker 4: warming up for qualifying, James Corney tends to go around
- 30:51Speaker 4: in he's doing the weaving your ties thing and they
- 30:53Speaker 4: make contact and.
- 30:55Speaker 2: That's not great.
- 30:57Speaker 4: It's not a great situation to be and this is
- 30:58Speaker 4: off the back again of a season last year where
- 31:00Speaker 4: he showed a lot of speed promise. I mean, that's
- 31:02Speaker 4: sort of been the even his junior career leading up
- 31:04Speaker 4: with the supercars suggested there was this great speed, just
- 31:08Speaker 4: couldn't really convert that to that kind of consistency, and
- 31:11Speaker 4: the team's decided, particularly after that incident, he's had enough.
- 31:13Speaker 2: It's a bit unfair on him as well.
- 31:14Speaker 4: It felt like this season got to the wrong foot
- 31:16Speaker 4: in testing out of brake failure and crashed and hit
- 31:19Speaker 4: something and that wasn't his fault, but sometimes things just
- 31:22Speaker 4: don't go your way, and he is one of those
- 31:23Speaker 4: things that hasn't gone his way. If you think from
- 31:26Speaker 4: the team's perspective. The positive element here, I guess is
- 31:30Speaker 4: that you know James Cortney's retiring at end of the year,
- 31:32Speaker 4: and this means at least if you get someone in
- 31:34Speaker 4: the car, in this case Aaron Cameron, you're not going
- 31:36Speaker 4: into next season with an all new driver line up,
- 31:38Speaker 4: correct and that's usually really quite important for a motorsport team.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Particularly one like bart which is trying to move up
- 31:44Speaker 4: the grid. You want a little bit of consistency in
- 31:46Speaker 4: the engineering through the drivers. So Aaron Cameron, we know
- 31:49Speaker 4: his quick carting champions five thousand, multiple champion Super two
- 31:52Speaker 4: race winner and runner up in Super two as well,
- 31:55Speaker 4: and was co driving last year with Aaron Lavid Battiston Sandown.
- 31:58Speaker 4: So he knows the team, he knows the sport deserves
- 32:00Speaker 4: to be there, He's got the background to prove that
- 32:03Speaker 4: deserves to be there. So and astute change. But after
- 32:08Speaker 4: one round you do. It is a little bit rough,
- 32:09Speaker 4: isn't it. I guess you might be looking at Alward
- 32:11Speaker 4: Park and going, boy, the barriers are pretty close.
- 32:13Speaker 3: They are a little bit no truth to the room,
- 32:14Speaker 3: and you're going to change your name to Aaron just
- 32:16Speaker 3: to be the next guy on the list there.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look, if this doesn't work out, way
- 32:20Speaker 2: that I could drive, I could dry. I drive pretty quick.
- 32:24Speaker 3: So I've heard let's go back to Sydney. First round.
- 32:28Speaker 3: Just absolutely dominated by cam waders, three poles, three wins,
- 32:32Speaker 3: three faster slaps, three very different races in that one
- 32:36Speaker 3: in the wet drive one, A close race, absolutely dominated.
- 32:39Speaker 3: A race is this like he's been this nearly meant
- 32:42Speaker 3: he's been what top six in the championship I think
- 32:44Speaker 3: five straight years, or maybe it's top five and six
- 32:46Speaker 3: years I forget, but he's been right up there for
- 32:49Speaker 3: so so long. So is this the year that he
- 32:52Speaker 3: can turn that into something bigger?
- 32:54Speaker 5: Isn't?
- 32:54Speaker 4: It definitely feels promising because like you said, it's the
- 32:57Speaker 4: three different races element. I know we talk a lot
- 32:59Speaker 4: about this was one round and it was only one circuit.
- 33:02Speaker 4: It would be the most ex extreme tire circuit we
- 33:04Speaker 4: have on the Supercars calendar. It's a very particular track
- 33:07Speaker 4: if you compared to others. Albert Park's also another very
- 33:09Speaker 4: particular track. But yeah, like you say, in the cold,
- 33:12Speaker 4: in the hot, in the day, in the nighttime, challenged
- 33:16Speaker 4: by Triple eight, not challenged by Triple A. Different strategies
- 33:19Speaker 4: as well, particularly in that night race when it was
- 33:21Speaker 4: closed a bit were dry in that last one to
- 33:23Speaker 4: exactly nothing phaced him or the tick for Team A.
- 33:26Speaker 4: Team We've got to remember on a couple of years
- 33:28Speaker 4: ago decided they've got to reduce back down to two cars.
- 33:30Speaker 4: They could focus more thing the most out of the
- 33:32Speaker 4: package they had.
- 33:33Speaker 2: This was I know, it's like it is only one round.
- 33:36Speaker 4: And everyone's like, wow, one round. All those caveats were
- 33:38Speaker 4: just mentioned, but it was it was absolute.
- 33:41Speaker 2: That was the word use. It was absolute domination, maximum points.
- 33:44Speaker 4: I think what's really interesting for me, And there's the
- 33:46Speaker 4: context here of in Gen three, you know, Fords felt
- 33:49Speaker 4: a little bit down and out and Chevrolet seemed had.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Things all their own way, was it Ford did really
- 33:53Speaker 2: well this weekend as well. Actually backs it up.
- 33:56Speaker 4: A little bit, Triple eight was really the only GM
- 33:59Speaker 4: representative the top five, certainly in the top ten generally
- 34:02Speaker 4: all weekend.
- 34:03Speaker 2: And also that means if you're a General.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Motors fan or Triple eight's switching next year and makes
- 34:08Speaker 4: you a little bit worried. But for example, the top
- 34:10Speaker 4: five qualifying results over the course of the three races
- 34:12Speaker 4: was ten five to Forward. Likewise, in the extended race results,
- 34:15Speaker 4: ten top five finishes to Ford over the course of
- 34:17Speaker 4: the weekend to just five for General Motors. General motors
- 34:19Speaker 4: are still overrepresented on the grid as well, so this
- 34:22Speaker 4: is punching way above Ford's weight in this regard. And
- 34:25Speaker 4: what I really think is interesting to talk about that
- 34:27Speaker 4: we take Triple eight out of the equation. Water's average
- 34:30Speaker 4: pole margin over the course of the weekend was more
- 34:32Speaker 4: than six tenths of a second over the next year team.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It's huge and so.
- 34:36Speaker 4: It really relies on I mean, Triple eight at the
- 34:39Speaker 4: moment seems like the only competitor we can talk about
- 34:41Speaker 4: walking through and Dreda united with sort of thereabouts and
- 34:43Speaker 4: they are fourteenth. So on the base of one round
- 34:45Speaker 4: you said, well, maybe the ceilings are a little bit higher.
- 34:47Speaker 2: We don't know. We've got to see a few more tracks.
- 34:49Speaker 4: But I mean, if you're a cam Orders fan, I
- 34:51Speaker 4: don't want to say you've been long suffering, but you
- 34:52Speaker 4: know he's been close several times and hasn't managed to
- 34:54Speaker 4: get it done. You must be feeling you must be
- 34:57Speaker 4: allowing yourself to feel pretty good.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Last one of my interested but not expert list image
- 35:03Speaker 3: in Triple eight before we're going to a race track
- 35:06Speaker 3: where they were particularly good last year, three wins of
- 35:09Speaker 3: the four between their two drivers. Is this what they
- 35:12Speaker 3: need right now to perhaps get on par with Ford,
- 35:16Speaker 3: as you were saying, or is last year's result a
- 35:18Speaker 3: little bit irrelevant based on what we saw in Sydney.
- 35:21Speaker 4: It's sort of it's a little bit hard to say
- 35:23Speaker 4: because the Australian Grand pre format is so random really
- 35:27Speaker 4: in the context anymore sport really, even the Supercars four
- 35:30Speaker 4: races grouped in a funny way, and you don't get
- 35:33Speaker 4: a lot of set up time, which could be the
- 35:34Speaker 4: really important element. It's all got to be done on
- 35:36Speaker 4: Thursday pretty much, and then you're guessing between live sessions.
- 35:39Speaker 2: It's really quite fast paced despite being a four.
- 35:41Speaker 4: Day man and no pit stops exactly, a completely different
- 35:44Speaker 4: format of racing, going to have different weather, all that
- 35:46Speaker 4: kind of stuff, super far fastest track on the calendar,
- 35:47Speaker 4: all that kind of stuff.
- 35:49Speaker 2: But Triple eight is that team that should be there
- 35:51Speaker 2: pretty much everywhere.
- 35:52Speaker 4: They, like you said, did so well last year, also
- 35:55Speaker 4: missed out on the perfect podium run by in only
- 35:57Speaker 4: one race, seven podiums from eight at Temps essentially last year.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Team manager Mark doesn't use the word must. I think
- 36:03Speaker 4: must bounce back at the Australian Grand Prix. Obviously not
- 36:05Speaker 4: from a points perspective because the season is long, but
- 36:08Speaker 4: it is just that kind of dire picture that's been
- 36:10Speaker 4: painted otherwise that if if what has wins all four races,
- 36:15Speaker 4: we're probably going to be having really quite a different,
- 36:17Speaker 4: like another different conversation after this about well, this has
- 36:20Speaker 4: all gone fairly in one direction, so it's going to
- 36:22Speaker 4: be a really fascinating week here you want to talk.
- 36:24Speaker 2: About Moto GP.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Are we switching hats here? I'm highly interested, You're highly interested.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I'm hit a help, Michael, when's Mark market is going
- 36:32Speaker 3: to win the title this year? Because remarkable?
- 36:34Speaker 2: Has he not already won it?
- 36:36Speaker 3: I mean, I think this was the This was the fear.
- 36:39Speaker 3: I guess you use fear in inverted kormas you put
- 36:41Speaker 3: the best rider on the best bike, and expecting other outcomes,
- 36:45Speaker 3: particularly early in the season is probably wishful thinking. I
- 36:50Speaker 3: think there is a little caveat with what he did
- 36:51Speaker 3: in Thailand. They had tested there for two days previously
- 36:54Speaker 3: a fortnight earlier, and he was unbelievably strong, Like waited
- 36:59Speaker 3: until the fifteen minutes of the second day and said
- 37:02Speaker 3: how about this for a qualifying lap there?
- 37:04Speaker 2: And everyone went, oh boy.
- 37:05Speaker 3: So what he did in Beru Aram was not a
- 37:07Speaker 3: massive surprise. So is he the world championship favorite fantastic bike?
- 37:12Speaker 3: We know how good Mark is and he's in this
- 37:15Speaker 3: sort of last part of his career. Now he's the
- 37:18Speaker 3: second oldest rider in Motor GP. It's one of those
- 37:20Speaker 3: things that snuck up on this a little bit because
- 37:22Speaker 3: he still looks like he's twenty three thirty two now,
- 37:25Speaker 3: and the way he won in burram I. Look at
- 37:28Speaker 3: the Grand Prix where he cleared off at the front
- 37:31Speaker 3: and then realized, oh, my tire pressures are a bit low,
- 37:34Speaker 3: I might just pull the handbrake on. Relatively speaking, he
- 37:36Speaker 3: had sit behind my brother on the same bike until
- 37:39Speaker 3: I've done the minimum sixty percent race distance with the
- 37:41Speaker 3: tire pressure and then just breeze past him and gap
- 37:44Speaker 3: him by one point three seconds in one lap. It
- 37:46Speaker 3: was just an absolute demonstration of the margin that he
- 37:49Speaker 3: had now good at this track. He's won there several
- 37:52Speaker 3: times before, a lot of data from preseason testing. There
- 37:55Speaker 3: are some variables coming up, but it's hard to see
- 37:59Speaker 3: how he not the strongest of those decadies, at least
- 38:01Speaker 3: for this first part of the season. But I think
- 38:03Speaker 3: the biggest challenge is still with his son Garage.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Well, so this is the question, right because and you
- 38:07Speaker 4: mentioned there's the three next couple of races feel like
- 38:11Speaker 4: when the Marquez universe, right, I mean, so we've got
- 38:14Speaker 4: Argentina this weekend saying we've got a lot of notice
- 38:16Speaker 4: about this weekend. Let's try You're going to need to
- 38:18Speaker 4: use your recording devices and so on, and then codat.
- 38:22Speaker 2: The secret of the Americans.
- 38:23Speaker 4: Is there any point even if you Peco Vanyay are
- 38:25Speaker 4: turning up to these races or is it all really
- 38:27Speaker 4: about looking at not this cutout after that and then
- 38:30Speaker 4: the return to Europe for if anyone's going to challenge you.
- 38:34Speaker 3: I think Banyaya could not have had a worse weekend
- 38:36Speaker 3: in terms of just you know, banana skins that he
- 38:39Speaker 3: tripped over pretty much in Thailand because he had a
- 38:41Speaker 3: difficult preseason test, didn't get a race simulation in got
- 38:44Speaker 3: to Thailand, had to go through a Q one because
- 38:48Speaker 3: it was an erroneous yellow flag in that last practice session.
- 38:50Speaker 3: He then got borked by Franco Marberdeli, which got Morbidelli
- 38:53Speaker 3: a group penalty, had to fight his way through a
- 38:55Speaker 3: Q one. He was constantly fighting with an arm behind
- 38:57Speaker 3: his back all weekend. Never really looked like he was
- 39:00Speaker 3: going to challenge for a win, but more or less
- 39:02Speaker 3: had their measure of what was behind. And Picko is
- 39:05Speaker 3: one of these guys that he can't just jump on
- 39:07Speaker 3: and be volcanic fast like Mark Camp. He's one of
- 39:10Speaker 3: these guys. He's a slow build, slow burn and when
- 39:13Speaker 3: he can run a weekend on those terms, we saw
- 39:15Speaker 3: it last year he won eleven of twenty Grand Prix,
- 39:18Speaker 3: but it wasn't so much what he did on Sunday,
- 39:19Speaker 3: it was what he was doing on Friday. He's this methodical,
- 39:22Speaker 3: slow burn rider that when he gets everything right, he
- 39:26Speaker 3: was pretty much unbeatable last year on a Sunday. So
- 39:29Speaker 3: I can't imagine a more problematic build up than he
- 39:31Speaker 3: had in Thailand. I think the races coming forward should
- 39:34Speaker 3: be smoother than this. We'll see the gap reduce. Whether
- 39:37Speaker 3: it reduces to a point where we can flip them,
- 39:40Speaker 3: I don't know, but I think it's going to be
- 39:41Speaker 3: far more competitive once we get to Argentina.
- 39:43Speaker 2: It's still incredible to me he won eleven Grand Prix
- 39:46Speaker 2: last and win well, yeah, it was a championship being lost,
- 39:49Speaker 2: wasn't it. Yeah? Wow, yes, yes, but ridiculous really. And
- 39:52Speaker 2: we've got to talk about Jack Miller.
- 39:53Speaker 4: You know, maybe six eight months ago we were thinking
- 39:56Speaker 4: maybe he wasn't going to be in with the ride,
- 39:58Speaker 4: and he dropped up with Pramac now in the stable
- 40:01Speaker 4: and did well, extremely well, very impressive debut to him,
- 40:04Speaker 4: and suddenly it looks like a new lease on life
- 40:06Speaker 4: for him.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Fastest ever lapped by a Yamaha of Burram in six
- 40:10Speaker 3: visits by Motor GP. There he'd ridden the bike for
- 40:12Speaker 3: two tests. So I think this is consistent with what
- 40:15Speaker 3: Jack does, though, because you look at where he's been previously.
- 40:18Speaker 3: When he was at Pramac Deucati, he was on Polony
- 40:20Speaker 3: second race in Argentina, which is absolutely while lap where
- 40:24Speaker 3: the track was still half where he won two of
- 40:26Speaker 3: his first five races. When he went to Ducati's factory
- 40:29Speaker 3: team in twenty one, his best results at katm were
- 40:32Speaker 3: in the fourth Grand Prix. That year at Hareth, finished
- 40:35Speaker 3: on the podium in the sprint and the Grand Prix.
- 40:37Speaker 3: And I think Jack's one of these guys. He's so
- 40:39Speaker 3: naturally talented that he hits the ceiling really really quickly.
- 40:42Speaker 3: There's that and the ability to just get on the
- 40:44Speaker 3: thing and wring its neck. I sometimes wonder with Jack
- 40:46Speaker 3: whether he hits his head on that ceiling a little
- 40:48Speaker 3: bit early. And so the rate of development is very rapid,
- 40:51Speaker 3: and then it flattens out. The key thing for me
- 40:54Speaker 3: is he's on a one year contract with Pramak. His
- 40:56Speaker 3: teammate Miguel Olivere's got two. But I think Jack is
- 41:00Speaker 3: willing to take the bike to place as maybe Yama
- 41:03Speaker 3: hasn't seen it for the past few years because they've
- 41:05Speaker 3: only had two riders, and Fabio Couaturero's a fantastic rider.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Alex Rinz has been injured for the best part of
- 41:10Speaker 3: eighteen months, so I'm not sure they know where that
- 41:12Speaker 3: bike is. Jack's taking it to places a fourth on
- 41:15Speaker 3: the grid in qualifying at Burram unbelievable qualifying performance, and
- 41:19Speaker 3: Fabio Couaturero said afterwards Jack disconnected his brain in Q two,
- 41:24Speaker 3: which was said in Fabio's accent, it's better than the
- 41:26Speaker 3: way I just said it, but it's so true in
- 41:28Speaker 3: that Jack's willing to put it all on the line.
- 41:31Speaker 3: So I wasn't surprised that he started quickly with Yamaha.
- 41:34Speaker 3: I was surprised that it was so good look the
- 41:36Speaker 3: race weekend, crashed from a good position in the sprint
- 41:39Speaker 3: and then had the bizarre Grand Prix where a bolt
- 41:42Speaker 3: came out of the fairing and he was holding it
- 41:43Speaker 3: together on the straits with his foe arms on the
- 41:46Speaker 3: tank and managed to burn them because it.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Was so hot.
- 41:49Speaker 3: So a weird weekend of results, but I think the
- 41:52Speaker 3: pace and the promise is really good there and a
- 41:54Speaker 3: couple of good tracks for him coming up to.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Yeah, that's such a Moto VP thing. Burning your four
- 41:58Speaker 4: arms holding your bike together.
- 42:00Speaker 2: To be fine. It looks in extreme sports and he'll
- 42:04Speaker 2: be declared fit. Don't know. Oh yes for the next race.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Uh that's your wrap up.
- 42:09Speaker 4: I guess aware of those two sports so far because
- 42:11Speaker 4: as I said, argent Argentine Grand Prix this weekend from
- 42:14Speaker 4: OJP the Melbourne Superspoot for supercars, which also happens to
- 42:18Speaker 4: be in the same location as the Australian Grand Prix.
- 42:20Speaker 4: But just before we leave the last couple of weeks
- 42:22Speaker 4: behind by Shannon's we've got, of course the overtake of
- 42:25Speaker 4: the month. Now we're gonna look back. Of course we've
- 42:28Speaker 4: only had two rounds of anything so far, so the
- 42:31Speaker 4: choice is a relatively limited but I think we've got
- 42:33Speaker 4: some good ones. I'll kick things off and for me
- 42:35Speaker 4: the overtake. Actually it's the sort of the opposite. It's
- 42:37Speaker 4: an allowance of an overtake. It's a redress is what
- 42:40Speaker 4: it is. I'm picking cam Waters allowing brock Feenie back
- 42:43Speaker 4: through into the lead in the closing stages of the
- 42:45Speaker 4: Saturday Night Rice Saturday Night Race in Sydney because he
- 42:49Speaker 4: punted him off the road. This is battle for the lead,
- 42:51Speaker 4: really fraud. It was just a one on one. By
- 42:53Speaker 4: punning him off the road. Of course, Pool Brown caught
- 42:55Speaker 4: up had to redress to have another crack at him,
- 42:57Speaker 4: and of course he eventually won this race in the
- 42:59Speaker 4: by the closest march in fifty years or something.
- 43:01Speaker 2: Like that, and did it so expertly by keeping Will
- 43:03Speaker 2: Brown behind him.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Because Brown did have the run loud brockthrough even Will
- 43:07Speaker 4: sort of have to regussion and go, oh look I
- 43:08Speaker 4: didn't like it, but credit to him. Certain it's not
- 43:11Speaker 4: quite It is an overtake. But it's not the guy
- 43:13Speaker 4: who did the overtake that's getting the awards. The guy
- 43:15Speaker 4: let him be overtaken.
- 43:16Speaker 3: But it's also the quick thinking. Yeah, pressure like that
- 43:19Speaker 3: with so much on the line, when you're being ganged
- 43:21Speaker 3: up on two against what I think that was absolutely
- 43:23Speaker 3: a great choice.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yes, and it goes to that great weekend Ward has
- 43:26Speaker 4: had as well. Yeah, courage that the management was there
- 43:28Speaker 4: every facet.
- 43:29Speaker 3: I'll go two wheels. With the very first lap of
- 43:33Speaker 3: the sprint in the Thailand Motor GP, Iyagura on an Aprillia,
- 43:37Speaker 3: on his Motor GP debut, qualifies fifth. Unbelievable performance. Best
- 43:42Speaker 3: qualifying by rookie in their very first Motor GP race
- 43:45Speaker 3: since Fabio Guadurra in twenty nineteen. Reasonable position to start,
- 43:49Speaker 3: and he said afterwards he got the term one couldn't
- 43:52Speaker 3: believe how hard Jack Miller and Frankeo Morbidelli breaked in
- 43:56Speaker 3: front of him, So he just took the outside and
- 43:58Speaker 3: swept past both of them into the first corner, your
- 44:02Speaker 3: first corner in a premier class, in your first lights
- 44:04Speaker 3: out race, and all of a sudden he is right
- 44:07Speaker 3: behind Pekabanyaya and Mark Marquez ahead of him. Unbelievable star,
- 44:12Speaker 3: but it was as if he started the way he
- 44:14Speaker 3: meant to go on. Finished fifth on an Aprillier in
- 44:18Speaker 3: his very first Grand Prix, the first non Decati across
- 44:20Speaker 3: the line, best debut stat corner for you, best debut
- 44:24Speaker 3: by anyone in Motor GP in a race since Mark
- 44:26Speaker 3: Marquez finished third in twenty thirteen Quaitar. So it does
- 44:31Speaker 3: show you the level that this guy has got in
- 44:34Speaker 3: him ragining Moto two champion. I think people thought that
- 44:37Speaker 3: he would be decent in motor GP. The fact he
- 44:39Speaker 3: didn't come in on a Honda was interesting. But he's
- 44:42Speaker 3: come in for a Prillia. We know a Prillia doesn't
- 44:43Speaker 3: have Joe Martin at the moment to see the limit
- 44:45Speaker 3: of that bike. But as first impressions go, it was
- 44:48Speaker 3: a pretty good one.
- 44:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:48Speaker 2: Well, feels like a lot of stuff was saying about
- 44:50Speaker 2: Pedro Acosta around this time.
- 44:52Speaker 3: Yes, well, but even his debut wasn't as good as that.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Yes, remarkable, wisdom, remarkable, very good. I enjoy it.
- 44:57Speaker 4: Two good overtakes there. We have so many more this
- 44:59Speaker 4: weekend through how much motorsport we've got. Let's look ahead now, Matt,
- 45:03Speaker 4: because we've got quite a few big weeks of motorsport
- 45:05Speaker 4: coming up for us. I thought we'd have a look
- 45:07Speaker 4: in it. We need a prop, a crystal ball, something
- 45:09Speaker 4: we can have there maybe in future. Yes, you're not
- 45:12Speaker 4: watching it, just imagine we do actually have it. You
- 45:14Speaker 4: don't know any better, but you can watch it if
- 45:16Speaker 4: you don't know on YouTube. By complete home filtration, the
- 45:19Speaker 4: complete home filtration crystal ball.
- 45:22Speaker 2: What's a big prediction for the next couple of weeks
- 45:24Speaker 2: in motorsport?
- 45:24Speaker 3: Am I going first?
- 45:25Speaker 2: You go first?
- 45:27Speaker 3: Given what we've got coming up in motor GP, we've
- 45:29Speaker 3: got Argentina. Doesn't get used for fifty one weeks of
- 45:33Speaker 3: the year. Dirty bit of a goat track, very very
- 45:36Speaker 3: very slippery. That sounds a bit like a Mark Marquees track,
- 45:39Speaker 3: doesn't it.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Imagine turn up straight out of the box.
- 45:41Speaker 3: And be the guy who indulged in a bit of
- 45:43Speaker 3: tarmac motor crossing and be very very good there. Following
- 45:47Speaker 3: Argentina we go to the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
- 45:50Speaker 3: Mar Marquees is known as the King of Kosa. So
- 45:53Speaker 3: my big prediction is that we'll get through the first
- 45:55Speaker 3: three rounds of the motor GP season and Marques will
- 45:57Speaker 3: be undefeated. He'll win the sprint in Argentina, the Grand
- 46:00Speaker 3: Prix and do likewise it.
- 46:02Speaker 2: But will we eat Hamburger afterwards? He will eat many Hamburgers?
- 46:06Speaker 2: All right?
- 46:06Speaker 4: My prediction, Look, I think it's actually could be could happen,
- 46:10Speaker 4: It could be reasonable, O yours I think probably will happen.
- 46:12Speaker 2: So there's a good prediction.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Do I need to touch something wooden't here?
- 46:14Speaker 4: No, I don't think there's anything wood in I think
- 46:17Speaker 4: this is the weekend Australia finally gets an Australian on
- 46:20Speaker 4: the podium with Australian run.
- 46:21Speaker 3: So glad you've gone here could be the top step.
- 46:23Speaker 3: I think Oscopiastri could be the one to do it.
- 46:26Speaker 4: You've had Obviously Daniel cut out his chances, but obviously
- 46:28Speaker 4: never coincided perfectly with the car being in its top
- 46:31Speaker 4: form at Albert Park, and then he was disquaded by
- 46:33Speaker 4: the one time McLaren does feel like it's gonna be
- 46:35Speaker 4: the favorite coming into this weekend. Astris very different tractor barrain,
- 46:38Speaker 4: et cetera, et cetera. But this feels like our best shot.
- 46:41Speaker 4: This genuinely feels like the best shot, and I think
- 46:43Speaker 4: it's going.
- 46:43Speaker 2: To be at least a podium.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Surely four times an Australian has finished fourth of the Australian,
- 46:48Speaker 3: there's a synergy there. Can we just put that in
- 46:50Speaker 3: the bin. We've come super super close. This has to
- 46:53Speaker 3: be the year given McLaren's preseason favoritism, so no pressure Oscar.
- 46:57Speaker 3: A country expects.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Yes, very much.
- 46:59Speaker 4: So well tough with how osk and did next week,
- 47:02Speaker 4: because that's all the time we've got for Pit Talk today.
- 47:04Speaker 2: You can subscribe to Picktalk wherever you get your podcast.

- 47:13Speaker 4: com dot Au until next week. I've been Michael Lamonado
- 47:16Speaker 4: on behalf of Matt I'll see you next week.
