- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into this Thursday edition of Jagsaiam, I'm Kindannie Stephens,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, John Osier with me today as we get
- 0:20Speaker 1: ready for Monday Night Football next week. So we're gonna
- 0:22Speaker 1: look ahead to that matchup and preview it a little
- 0:25Speaker 1: bit for you, So try to figure out what we
- 0:26Speaker 1: can expect. Let's get to our big things brought to
- 0:28Speaker 1: you by g e h A Government Employees Health Association.
- 0:32Speaker 1: As far as the Chiefs, go X factor is our
- 0:34Speaker 1: big thing, number one because it's say you're worthy returning
- 0:37Speaker 1: last week and the Chief's offense looked completely different Brian
- 0:40Speaker 1: the first couple of weeks. There was probably some concern
- 0:42Speaker 1: as he went out early in that first matchup against
- 0:44Speaker 1: the Chargers, But when he came back against the Ravens,
- 0:47Speaker 1: that's when the offense really lit up. Patrick Mahomes looked
- 0:49Speaker 1: like the Patrick Mahomes were used to. What's it gonna
- 0:52Speaker 1: look like on Monday Night Football?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Well, the speed factor changes everything for Mahomes. They always
- 0:56Speaker 2: had it with Tyreek Hill. They've gotten by the last
- 0:58Speaker 2: couple of years, but not been quite so breadth taking
- 1:01Speaker 2: an explosive as they were when Hill was running down
- 1:05Speaker 2: the field for them. They hope to get Rashid Rice
- 1:07Speaker 2: back in a couple of weeks ready to go. I mean,
- 1:09Speaker 2: he's sitting out on a six game suspension. Their offense
- 1:12Speaker 2: look pedestrian in the first three weeks, and so I
- 1:14Speaker 2: would They lost their first two games because they just
- 1:17Speaker 2: didn't have that pop. It's back now with Worthy and
- 1:20Speaker 2: his speed is electrifying. It's gonna look dangerous.
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yeah, they're faster and they're better with Worthy. The Ravens
- 1:30Speaker 3: are really struggling on defense. So I don't know that
- 1:33Speaker 3: Jaguars fans should look at this and say, oh my goodness,
- 1:36Speaker 3: we cannot stop the Chiefs. The Jaguars are a good defense.
- 1:39Speaker 3: I expect him to match up well against the Chiefs,
- 1:41Speaker 3: and it's really all about pressure and Mahomes, not necessarily
- 1:45Speaker 3: sacking him because he's mobile, but pressuring him so he
- 1:47Speaker 3: can't use that speed.
- 1:48Speaker 1: It's got a big thing Number two, which is keep running.
- 1:50Speaker 1: We talked a ton about the offense wanting to see
- 1:53Speaker 1: more in the past game, which I'm sure will still
- 1:54Speaker 1: be a focus. But if there's one Achilles Heal to
- 1:57Speaker 1: this Chiefs defense, so far, it's been their rush defense.
- 2:00Speaker 1: They've allowed a lot of rushing yards so far. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: imagine that's still gonna have to be part of the
- 2:04Speaker 1: game plan going forward. John. As much as they want
- 2:06Speaker 1: to get the pass game involved to open things up,
- 2:08Speaker 1: they're still gonna have to run at a time.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, this team's gonna run. Me and the Jaguars, I
- 2:14Speaker 3: think they're number four in the league in rushing. Beyond that,
- 2:17Speaker 3: they feel like they're able to run when they want
- 2:21Speaker 3: and need to run, which hasn't been the case since
- 2:24Speaker 3: what seventeen to eighteen, Really where you feel like you
- 2:27Speaker 3: could rely on it. To me, no matter who they're playing,
- 2:30Speaker 3: the Chiefs defense being weaker against the run matters. If
- 2:35Speaker 3: they're playing the eighty five Bears, Brian, I would expect
- 2:37Speaker 3: him to try to run because this is what this
- 2:38Speaker 3: team's gonna be.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Well, why wouldn't you. You've got Travis etn who's averaging
- 2:41Speaker 2: over six yards per rushing attempt so far. The Drags
- 2:44Speaker 2: are fourth. I think the running you said, John, hundred
- 2:46Speaker 2: and forty four game, I think they're third in yards
- 2:49Speaker 2: per rushing attempt. It's their identity, it's the toughness factor
- 2:53Speaker 2: that Liam Cohen said he wanted on the first day
- 2:56Speaker 2: he was the head coach here. The running game gives
- 2:58Speaker 2: you the toughness factor, passing game that gives you the explosiveness.
- 3:02Speaker 2: This is a tough team. They want to play a
- 3:04Speaker 2: physical brand of football, especially against Kansas City. So run
- 3:08Speaker 2: the ball and don't stop all right.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Our final thing is fourteen and sixteen a couple numbers
- 3:14Speaker 1: for you. It's been fourteen years since this team won
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Jaguars one on Monday Night football, and it's been
- 3:19Speaker 1: sixteen years since they beat the Chief So, Brian, something's
- 3:21Speaker 1: got a gift. Is now the time that we can
- 3:23Speaker 1: change some of these numbers and make them not such
- 3:24Speaker 1: long streaks.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Listen, I think if there's if they can get Mahomes
- 3:29Speaker 2: to just feel slightly uncomfortable, and I think all of
- 3:31Speaker 2: us have watched him long enough to know that's very
- 3:33Speaker 2: difficult to do. We've seen him jumping out of bounds
- 3:36Speaker 2: and throwing the ball back into play. The guy is
- 3:39Speaker 2: an absolute magician when it comes to making things happen.
- 3:42Speaker 2: But you've got the ability to put pressure on him
- 3:44Speaker 2: because of the way that Josh Haines Allen is playing.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I don't know whether Trayvon Walker will be able to go,
- 3:48Speaker 2: but smooth is a guy who can give you some
- 3:50Speaker 2: pressure as well. And of course Eric Armstead has been
- 3:54Speaker 2: really good this season and Mason Smith has played well
- 3:57Speaker 2: the last few weeks. If you can make feel slightly uncomfortable,
- 4:01Speaker 2: I think the Jaguars can make some noise on offense.
- 4:04Speaker 2: If you can do that to Mahomes, yeah, I think
- 4:06Speaker 2: things can change them money.
- 4:08Speaker 3: If you can stop the opposing team's running game and
- 4:10Speaker 3: pressure of the quarterback, you can make offenses look much
- 4:14Speaker 3: different than they usually look. I've said it multiple times
- 4:17Speaker 3: this week. The Jags played the Chiefs in the jags
- 4:21Speaker 3: last really good season twenty two twice and in neither
- 4:26Speaker 3: of those games going out did I have a great confidence.
- 4:30Speaker 3: It would have surprised me had the Jaguars won, it
- 4:32Speaker 3: would have felt like an upset. I hope they would win.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I thought they could, but didn't really feel like they
- 4:37Speaker 3: had the edge. And this one, the Chiefs are the
- 4:41Speaker 3: Chiefs and they can find ways to beat you.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I'm not so sure.
- 4:45Speaker 3: If it wasn't for helmets that you wouldn't think the
- 4:48Speaker 3: Jaguars were the better team going in. So I would
- 4:51Speaker 3: be less surprised if the Jaguars win this and I'm
- 4:55Speaker 3: leaning toward them winning. I'm very confident in this team.
- 4:58Speaker 3: If you take the uniforms out of I like the Jacks.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'll never take uniforms out now when we wear the
- 5:03Speaker 1: Prowlers because there's so much.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Better fair so it's a big edge.
- 5:06Speaker 3: Keep them on, all right, Stay with us.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, I check in one of
- 5:09Speaker 1: the chief Beat reporters to learn more about the Monday
- 5:11Speaker 1: Night football matchup, Yeah, Jack Dane, brought to you by
- 5:19Speaker 1: Seafields First, Jacksonvill's premiere luxury auto group. Head over to
- 5:22Speaker 1: Fieldsauto dot com. And also Monday Night Football's matchup brought
- 5:25Speaker 1: to you by EverBank Advantage You make the most out
- 5:29Speaker 1: of your money at EverBank dot com. Slash Jaguars Welcome
- 5:35Speaker 1: into Behind Enemy Lines, where we check in with a
- 5:37Speaker 1: media member from the Jaguars opponent for the upcoming week.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So we're checking in with Nate Taylor, chief reporter for ESPN. Nate,
- 5:44Speaker 1: thank you for joining us. We are excited for Monday
- 5:46Speaker 1: Night football here in Jacksonville. And the Chiefs had a
- 5:49Speaker 1: tough start, owned to kind of out of character, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: now they're looking again a little bit like the Chiefs
- 5:55Speaker 1: we know from the past. Years, especially after that win
- 5:57Speaker 1: over the Ravens. Are they back to what we expect
- 6:00Speaker 1: to see out of the Chiefs?
- 6:03Speaker 4: I think so, Kai, Thanks for having me on as always.
- 6:06Speaker 4: It's a It's a fun matchup to look forward to
- 6:09Speaker 4: because I think both teams are are playing good entering
- 6:13Speaker 4: this game. So yeah, I think the Chiefs do look
- 6:16Speaker 4: like a version of what we anticipated before the season started.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Much of that involves Xavier Worthy coming back and playing
- 6:23Speaker 4: well against the Ravens. And I know it's it's hard
- 6:28Speaker 4: to understand, like statistically where a team is when you
- 6:31Speaker 4: only play four weeks, but over the last three games,
- 6:33Speaker 4: the Chiefs defense has been one of the better units
- 6:36Speaker 4: in all of football. So this is a matchup that
- 6:38Speaker 4: features two of the best defenses, especially the last couple
- 6:42Speaker 4: weeks of taking the football away. So yeah, this should
- 6:44Speaker 4: be This should be a really fun, exciting game. I'm
- 6:47Speaker 4: looking forward to it. And what better time for the
- 6:50Speaker 4: Chiefs to sort of look the part than, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 4: right before Monday night football.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Absolutely, we're excited to kind of see that matchup. It's
- 6:57Speaker 1: always fun when they face off. Steve Spangle his defense,
- 7:00Speaker 1: They're always scheming something up and I feel like they
- 7:03Speaker 1: always have something up their sleeve that you don't really
- 7:05Speaker 1: know what it's going to be. The Jaguars are have
- 7:08Speaker 1: been loving running the football lately, and I'm sure they're
- 7:10Speaker 1: going to try to do that on Monday Night. What
- 7:12Speaker 1: do you expect to see from the Chiefs defense? Or
- 7:14Speaker 1: is it going to be surprised to you even? You know?
- 7:19Speaker 4: The best part about this Kay is that there's an
- 7:21Speaker 4: honest argument to be made that this is going to
- 7:23Speaker 4: be the best running back the Chiefs have seen so
- 7:25Speaker 4: far this season, and that includes Wen Barkley with the
- 7:29Speaker 4: Philadelphia Eagles last week with Derrick Henry in terms of production,
- 7:33Speaker 4: in terms of explosiveness, I loved watching et And especially
- 7:37Speaker 4: last week against the forty nine ers. Steve Spagnola is
- 7:40Speaker 4: someone who loves to blitz, but the best way to
- 7:42Speaker 4: counter that is having a successful running attack, being successful
- 7:47Speaker 4: on first down. The Chiefs have done a really good
- 7:50Speaker 4: job of bottling up running backs to be aggressive on
- 7:53Speaker 4: third down against opposing quarterbacks. But for Trevor Lawrence it's sake.
- 7:58Speaker 4: It would be really nice if et and continue used
- 8:00Speaker 4: to keep his pace. Nick Bolton is the Chief's middle linebacker.
- 8:03Speaker 4: He's known for his tackling ability. The Chiefs also have
- 8:06Speaker 4: Leo Chanal, who had a very impressive interception in Sunday's
- 8:10Speaker 4: win against Baltimore. This is a great matchup because what
- 8:13Speaker 4: I've noticed is can safeties make the proper angle on Eten.
- 8:17Speaker 4: If they don't, he goes right past him, right to
- 8:21Speaker 4: the end zone. So for Brian Cook, Jamari Connor, Jayson Hicks,
- 8:24Speaker 4: these are all young players on the Chiefs, you know
- 8:27Speaker 4: they they're gonna have to be absolutely, you know, on
- 8:31Speaker 4: point when it comes to coming down making the tackle.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Because if ETN can do well against this Chiefs defense,
- 8:39Speaker 4: that's a great sign for Liam Cohen and the Jack
- 8:42Speaker 4: Wars offense. But also it makes third down even more
- 8:45Speaker 4: interesting because you know you won't be in thirty long situations,
- 8:47Speaker 4: which is usually when the Chiefs can be aggressive, can
- 8:50Speaker 4: be their most tenacious, you know, tenacious I should say
- 8:54Speaker 4: versions of themselves on defense.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Absolutely, we've seen a ton out of ETN kind of
- 8:59Speaker 1: transforming and w Lilliam Cohen, so we're appreciate you're seeing
- 9:02Speaker 1: it as well. Oh yeah, flip to the other side
- 9:05Speaker 1: of football. Patrick Mahomes always a danger. Now you mentioned
- 9:08Speaker 1: Exavier Worthy. Finally, back do you feel the offenses back
- 9:11Speaker 1: rolling the way it wants to, or is there's still
- 9:13Speaker 1: some things that they could do better.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 4: The the fun part for I think Jaguars fans and
- 9:19Speaker 4: the coaching staff is I would really not encourage him
- 9:23Speaker 4: to watch the first three games on tape because it
- 9:26Speaker 4: was it was so different last week with the xeber
- 9:29Speaker 4: Worthy back, and it was an acknowledgment I think even
- 9:32Speaker 4: from coaches that I talked to after the game on Sunday,
- 9:35Speaker 4: that oh, this is the version of the Chiefs that
- 9:37Speaker 4: they have been practicing since OTA's training camp. That speed
- 9:41Speaker 4: element opens things so much for Travis Kelcey, Juju Smith, Schuster,
- 9:46Speaker 4: the guys who are going to work the middle of
- 9:47Speaker 4: the field. You don't have to, you know, be so
- 9:50Speaker 4: reliant on Mahomes to be a superhero in terms of creating,
- 9:54Speaker 4: you know, highlight worthy plays. So I think for the Jaguars,
- 9:58Speaker 4: you get one game tape of fil to really understand, Okay,
- 10:02Speaker 4: Xavier Worthy can be in the backfield, he can obviously
- 10:04Speaker 4: be on the perimeter. They've moved him, you know, into
- 10:07Speaker 4: the slot to get favorable matchups. And this is the
- 10:11Speaker 4: Chiefs offense that again, if they play well, if their
- 10:14Speaker 4: offensive line continues to have success, especially against you know,
- 10:18Speaker 4: these two edge rudgers are gonna face on Monday Night.
- 10:21Speaker 4: It's gonna be a great test for them because I
- 10:22Speaker 4: think Baltimore had so many injuries last week. And yes,
- 10:26Speaker 4: the Chiefs did score thirty seven, but this is a
- 10:28Speaker 4: much better Jaguars defense, and so this I think is
- 10:32Speaker 4: the real tests. With Xavier Worthy back another week, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 4: removed from his right shoulder injury, this is gonna be
- 10:40Speaker 4: a lot of fun because I think Mahomes is starting
- 10:42Speaker 4: to feel comfortable in the pocket, which means he can
- 10:45Speaker 4: start to spread the football around, which makes the Chiefs
- 10:47Speaker 4: a little bit more unpredictable because I think the first
- 10:51Speaker 4: three weeks they were very predictable without having that speed
- 10:54Speaker 4: element that Xavier Worthy provides, all right.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And then last one for me, just do you have
- 10:58Speaker 1: any X Factor matches upper names that you're watching.
- 11:01Speaker 3: In this game?
- 11:03Speaker 1: I do.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Not.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Only am I excited to see Travis Hunter and interesting
- 11:09Speaker 4: to see how the Jaguars use him. I would love
- 11:12Speaker 4: to see Travis Hunter and Trent McDuffie have I don't know,
- 11:15Speaker 4: two four snaps against one another where we know how
- 11:19Speaker 4: talented Travis Hunter is, but Trim McDuffie is an all
- 11:22Speaker 4: Pro cornerback, someone that you know, I think Travis Hunter
- 11:26Speaker 4: should emulate in a footwork hips identifying the routes and
- 11:31Speaker 4: the concepts. That's just a fun matchup because you know,
- 11:34Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to talking to Shrink in the locker
- 11:36Speaker 4: room about, Hey, it's not every day you face the
- 11:38Speaker 4: cornerback who's this good at receiver as well. So that
- 11:42Speaker 4: would be one matchup because you know, the Chiefs defense
- 11:45Speaker 4: is really relying on blitzes. As I said earlier, Chris Jones,
- 11:49Speaker 4: they're they're all World defensive tackle and Trip McDuffie, he's
- 11:52Speaker 4: their second best defensive player. He sort of cuts the
- 11:55Speaker 4: field in half. So that Steve Span now looking get
- 11:57Speaker 4: you know, as creative as he wants some blitzes. But
- 12:01Speaker 4: for you know, I know what it's looked like for
- 12:04Speaker 4: you know, Thomas Junior. I just want to see what
- 12:06Speaker 4: it's like for you know, Travis Hunter, to see, hey,
- 12:09Speaker 4: this is one of the better cornerbacks you're ever going
- 12:11Speaker 4: to see in the league in twenty twenty five, and
- 12:15Speaker 4: you know, just let me see one man the man
- 12:17Speaker 4: matchup between two very talented players.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Absolutely give the people what they want, yes, especially in primetime. Nate,
- 12:25Speaker 1: thank you so much for joining us. We will see
- 12:27Speaker 1: you on Monday night in Jacksonville. Stay here on jag zam.

- 12:59Speaker 1: back to jag zam and welcome back to us. Trying
- 13:01Speaker 1: to predict the future as we do. We're looking ahead.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's not gonna be Monday mornings headlines. It'll because we're
- 13:06Speaker 1: playing Monday night, so it'll be Tuesday morning headlines. Brian,
- 13:09Speaker 1: when you look ahead, what do you think we'll be
- 13:11Speaker 1: talking about on Tuesday?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Well, I went with it's about prime time. I think
- 13:15Speaker 2: about that like it's about time. It's about primetime. The Jaguars,
- 13:17Speaker 2: as you mentioned, have it won on primetime in fourteen years,
- 13:20Speaker 2: haven't won on Monday Night and they haven't beat the
- 13:23Speaker 2: Chiefs since sixteen years. Since two thousand and nine. I
- 13:26Speaker 2: also think that the quarterback is ready to have one
- 13:28Speaker 2: of those games you know, the first month John, there's
- 13:31Speaker 2: three and one. He's probably well enough to win, but
- 13:33Speaker 2: there's been some you know, some throws and some plays
- 13:36Speaker 2: that he's had that you're like, oh, those are head scratchers.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I think he's ready. Liam mentioned that it was after
- 13:42Speaker 2: Week four last year in Tampa that the offense took
- 13:45Speaker 2: flight and really started to play like they would over
- 13:47Speaker 2: the course of the year that got him this job.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So I'm going with it's about prime time. I think
- 13:51Speaker 2: they get it done and the quarterback plays well on
- 13:53Speaker 2: Monday night football.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope so, because I think for this game
- 13:58Speaker 3: you need they finally broke out and had some big plays,
- 14:03Speaker 3: big scoring plays. Last week. He had the punt return
- 14:06Speaker 3: and the run. I think to win this game, Trevor
- 14:10Speaker 3: is going to need at least one explosive forty forty
- 14:13Speaker 3: five yard pass, you know, and minimize I think he
- 14:16Speaker 3: can have one where you go, oh, what is that.
- 14:19Speaker 3: I don't think he can have two. So I think
- 14:21Speaker 3: if he plays like that, I think they went I
- 14:24Speaker 3: went with arrival time, and I chose Josh heinz Allen
- 14:28Speaker 3: as my picture, you're playing Mahomes on Monday Night football.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Josh is very open every year that his goal is
- 14:36Speaker 3: to be All Pro and Defensive Player of the Year.
- 14:38Speaker 1: He's playing like it.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Doesn't have the numbers yet to be talked about nationally,
- 14:44Speaker 3: but he's as good as any defensive player in the
- 14:45Speaker 3: league right now. What better time and moment for him
- 14:50Speaker 3: to move up into that conversation. You begaming money football
- 14:55Speaker 3: against my homes, you can do it. So arrival time
- 14:58Speaker 3: is about all that stuff. I think the Jaguars have
- 15:01Speaker 3: arrived in terms of being a team that can play
- 15:03Speaker 3: in these games. Can they be a team that wins
- 15:05Speaker 3: these that wins these games? If they do it five
- 15:08Speaker 3: weeks into this, that's an accelerated arrival time.
- 15:11Speaker 2: If they win, everyone will be talking about the Jaguars
- 15:13Speaker 2: having arrived for sure.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Absolutely perfect timing. I went with a time theme as well.
- 15:17Speaker 1: I said about damn time that they beat Patrick Mahomes.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I think they're gonna get after him too. We don't
- 15:22Speaker 1: have word officially on Treyvon Walker yet. If he could play,
- 15:25Speaker 1: he's gonna be out there, and I think getting after
- 15:28Speaker 1: Mahomes now, especially with Worthy back out there is gonna
- 15:31Speaker 1: be more crucial than ever because keeping them in check,
- 15:34Speaker 1: keeping things feasible throughout this game, not letting it get
- 15:37Speaker 1: ahead of them, is going to be really important. And
- 15:39Speaker 1: also I think it's perfect timing in the sense of
- 15:42Speaker 1: they're three and one at this point, they're early in
- 15:44Speaker 1: the season. This is a primetime matchup where you have
- 15:46Speaker 1: an opportunity, you're on a national stage, and whether they
- 15:49Speaker 1: win or not, we will see. You can't predict those
- 15:52Speaker 1: sorts of things. I mean, we would like to, but
- 15:53Speaker 1: we don't really know how the exact game is gonna
- 15:56Speaker 1: play out. I think this is a huge opportunity just
- 15:57Speaker 1: to show that this Jaguars team is very much different
- 16:00Speaker 1: than what maybe people have in their minds.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's different, very different. You know, in twenty eighteen, the
- 16:04Speaker 2: Jaguars started three and one, the last time they started
- 16:06Speaker 2: three and one, and we went to Arrowhead Stadium the
- 16:09Speaker 2: next Sunday and got blasted. That was Tyreek Hill, that
