- 0:00Speaker 1: The following program is produced by the Tech Talk Radio Network. Hi,
- 0:03Speaker 1: this is Adria M. Barbo. You're listening to tech Talk
- 0:06Speaker 1: Radio and you're gonna learn a lot and welcome to
- 0:09Speaker 1: another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. Sean
- 0:14Speaker 1: and Justin are both out. Sean wasn't feeling very well.
- 0:18Speaker 1: He's coming down with something. The guy works like crazy
- 0:21Speaker 1: doing all these sports games at Notre Dame, but has
- 0:24Speaker 1: been super super busy, so he's taken today off. And
- 0:27Speaker 1: then Justin, I'm not sure what he's doing. Well, actually
- 0:30Speaker 1: I do know what he's doing. He is celebrating his
- 0:33Speaker 1: birthday from a couple of weeks ago by going out
- 0:36Speaker 1: to I Fly Denver, which is it's kind of cool.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I've done this before.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It did this in Vegas when I went out to
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Consumer Electronics Show. It was like by myself, I thought, oh,
- 0:46Speaker 1: go do this, it'd be kind of fun. And it's
- 0:50Speaker 1: like a big gigantic fan in the room and then
- 0:53Speaker 1: you kind.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Of like they've got somebody there with you and you float.
- 0:57Speaker 1: They float you over this giant fan and however you move,
- 1:00Speaker 1: you can move up down. It's like it's like parachuting,
- 1:04Speaker 1: kind of skydiving, I guess you could say, and it
- 1:08Speaker 1: actually is.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Kind of fun.
- 1:10Speaker 1: He's done it before, so that's the way he's celebrating
- 1:13Speaker 1: this Valentine's Day weekend twenty twenty six, so it should
- 1:17Speaker 1: be good.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Now we're gonna be airing.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Some of the past from our Tech Talk Radio show
- 1:23Speaker 1: for today. The show this year celebrates its thirtieth anniversary.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And it was so cool to be able to land
- 1:29Speaker 1: here at KGVY at the same time, we were syndicated
- 1:33Speaker 1: for a while.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Other people have.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Heard us in like Indiana, that's where where Sean lives.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But in Indiana we had other towns that I know
- 1:43Speaker 1: that we're airing the show, and unfortunately the syndicator went
- 1:46Speaker 1: belly up, and so we're just here in Green Valley
- 1:49Speaker 1: and of course on the world wide Web. Now, I
- 1:52Speaker 1: wanted to remind you you could find us on the
- 1:54Speaker 1: web at tech talk radio dot com. That's t E
- 1:57Speaker 1: H T A L k r ado dot com. And
- 2:01Speaker 1: then we have a blog. Now, our blog is not
- 2:03Speaker 1: a traditional blog in the sense of a blog where
- 2:06Speaker 1: you go and every day there's something new that's posted
- 2:09Speaker 1: up there. You know, maybe we'll get into this, but
- 2:12Speaker 1: you know, being you know, a couple of person operations.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Sometimes it's difficult to coordinate. But what you will find
- 2:18Speaker 1: on the blog is an easy way to access our
- 2:21Speaker 1: video and audio, and we're not doing video today, but
- 2:25Speaker 1: normally we will record video of the show so you
- 2:29Speaker 1: can watch us yapping about stuff once in a while,
- 2:32Speaker 1: like we did last week with Justin getting the new
- 2:35Speaker 1: power wall from Tesla installed. We've got a photo of
- 2:38Speaker 1: that in there, and we could of course do interviews
- 2:41Speaker 1: as well. You could see those in there as well.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But again, also you'll find our KMSB Fox eleven News
- 2:49Speaker 1: thirteen segments that we do on generally Mondays, sometimes every
- 2:54Speaker 1: other Monday, and we show product on there. We talk
- 2:58Speaker 1: about trends and the whole bit. But again you'll find
- 3:01Speaker 1: that all on our blog page blog dot tech talk
- 3:03Speaker 1: radio dot com.
- 3:04Speaker 2: You could subscribe easily. It's super easy, no charge.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You just say hey, I want to know whenever they
- 3:10Speaker 1: post something new and it'll be up there as well.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Also on our Facebook page Facebook dot com forward slash
- 3:16Speaker 1: tech Talkers.
- 3:17Speaker 2: What do we put up there?
- 3:18Speaker 1: We put up silly memes and sometimes links to some
- 3:22Speaker 1: really good national stories done by zdnat or you know
- 3:25Speaker 1: some of the big gaming publications or technology publications there
- 3:29Speaker 1: and of course we post up the show there as well.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It's also a great way to interact.
- 3:34Speaker 1: If you've got a comment for the show, you can
- 3:36Speaker 1: do that as well, but you could also email us
- 3:38Speaker 1: tech Guys to e chg ui s at tech talkRADIO
- 3:42Speaker 1: dot com. You can also call us and leave a
- 3:45Speaker 1: comment or a question at five two zero seven seven
- 3:49Speaker 1: seven nine to five eight zero and again on YouTube
- 3:54Speaker 1: is also a great way to see the show and
- 3:56Speaker 1: listen to the show as you want on demand. We've
- 3:59Speaker 1: got it available there and yes we do produce the
- 4:01Speaker 1: video now. We do it, thank you Riverside FM. We
- 4:05Speaker 1: do it in high definition. So again you could see
- 4:09Speaker 1: the videos on your on YouTube, YouTube dot com and
- 4:13Speaker 1: then that's tech talk.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Radio you'll be able to find this.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But again, if you've got a question for the show,
- 4:18Speaker 1: we love the questions. We've had some great ones over
- 4:21Speaker 1: the last few months. I appreciate you sending those in
- 4:25Speaker 1: tech Guys at tech talk radio dot com and of
- 4:28Speaker 1: course this week it's it's continuing to be the big
- 4:32Speaker 1: story this week and as of record time on Wednesday,
- 4:36Speaker 1: I'm you know, I'm not sure where we'll be when
- 4:39Speaker 1: this show airs on Saturday. But of course it's been
- 4:42Speaker 1: surrounding the Nancy Guthrie abduction and this has been now
- 4:48Speaker 1: coming up on two weeks that that Nancy was abducted
- 4:52Speaker 1: from her home, and I talked about this on the KGV.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Y afternoon show that I do Here.
- 4:59Speaker 1: There was a bit a lot of questions regarding the
- 5:01Speaker 1: camera system, why they didn't have footage, what was the
- 5:05Speaker 1: story behind that. Many people were calling it a ring
- 5:08Speaker 1: video doorbell. I've had a ring video doorbell for a time.
- 5:12Speaker 1: They're they're pretty good, but they became synonymous with video doorbells,
- 5:17Speaker 1: and there's others on the market that have them. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: know Wise has a video doorbell, and there's also of
- 5:24Speaker 1: course Nest, which of course Google acquired Nests and they
- 5:29Speaker 1: have their their video doorbell, which is the one I
- 5:32Speaker 1: have had for a few years, and I'll be honest
- 5:34Speaker 1: with you, I really do love it. There was one
- 5:37Speaker 1: problem that I had with this video doorbell from Google
- 5:41Speaker 1: Nest where it just fell off the mount, and that
- 5:45Speaker 1: was that was very strange. But when it did, it
- 5:47Speaker 1: chattered the camera. I reached out to Google and they actually.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Uh replaced it at no cost, which was great.
- 5:55Speaker 1: They even said it was a little beyond warranty, but
- 5:58Speaker 1: they were going to go ahead and take care of
- 5:59Speaker 1: it for me, So that was good. But the video doorbell,
- 6:04Speaker 1: in the respects of the Google nests, does not have
- 6:07Speaker 1: an SD card. So many people said, how are they
- 6:11Speaker 1: able to get the footage of this guy that was
- 6:13Speaker 1: standing at Nancy Guthrie's front door. And if you haven't
- 6:17Speaker 1: seen it, it's a bit terrifying. I mean, the anytimes
- 6:22Speaker 1: somebody that you don't know comes to your door is
- 6:25Speaker 1: a little scary, but when they're coming to your door
- 6:29Speaker 1: dressed as ski mask and gloves, armed, that's very scary.
- 6:35Speaker 1: And that's something that I am sure Nancy did not
- 6:39Speaker 1: see inside the home would have called authorities. But the
- 6:44Speaker 1: story is how did they get this footage because she
- 6:46Speaker 1: did not have a subscription. Now you can subscribe to
- 6:51Speaker 1: the Nest Aware or the Nest pro Plan. And I
- 6:54Speaker 1: talked with Matt Jones, who also is on this show
- 6:57Speaker 1: quite a bit, who is a I want to say
- 6:59Speaker 1: I pretty much a great mind. It is field of
- 7:03Speaker 1: security that he kind of does.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Currently.
- 7:06Speaker 1: We'll have him back on the show very soon. But
- 7:08Speaker 1: I did get a chance to talk to him this week.
- 7:12Speaker 1: When you don't have a subscription, you basically get three
- 7:16Speaker 1: hours of footage. So that means that say somebody comes
- 7:21Speaker 1: to your door and you miss it and it's two
- 7:23Speaker 1: hours later, Oh, look at somebody came to the door,
- 7:28Speaker 1: and you'll get a notification. You have push notification set
- 7:30Speaker 1: up on your smart devices and if that is the case,
- 7:35Speaker 1: and that's whether they ring the doorbell or not, you
- 7:37Speaker 1: can get that notification within three hours. Though that that
- 7:42Speaker 1: notification will go away. Now I have notifications set up
- 7:47Speaker 1: so that it will send it to my email as well.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Now many people thought, well, that's probably the case that
- 7:54Speaker 1: we're finally able to get into mss Guthrie's email and
- 7:58Speaker 1: they were able to pull the still picture because originally
- 8:00Speaker 1: that's all they showed and that could have been the case.
- 8:03Speaker 2: However, they have video. So how it works.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Is and Matt was telling me when he had the
- 8:11Speaker 1: Google Nest system, he noticed that about sixty gigabytes of
- 8:16Speaker 1: data had left his home being uploaded to the cloud
- 8:21Speaker 1: and that's where it goes and then you can.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Access it with your subscription.
- 8:26Speaker 1: You're be able to access it for thirty days with
- 8:29Speaker 1: the Nest Aware Nest Pro could give you sixty days
- 8:32Speaker 1: and you could tell it what you want to identify.
- 8:35Speaker 1: You want to identify people, packages, animals, cars, the whole bit.
- 8:41Speaker 1: And in this case, more than likely what had happened
- 8:45Speaker 1: is the video was uploaded. However, there was nothing that
- 8:51Speaker 1: anybody could have done with the Nest app to be
- 8:54Speaker 1: able to see what took place as far as video.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So it looks like authorities went in and now when
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's a situation that involves a life situation, kidnapping or
- 9:14Speaker 1: a crime like this, they can go in and if
- 9:17Speaker 1: they can access this usually with the help of Google,
- 9:21Speaker 1: that would be the case in this one, without a warrant,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and if it's a narrow timeline, so you could say,
- 9:28Speaker 1: I need this footage from Saturday two am for this camera,
- 9:36Speaker 1: this account, this IP number, if they know the IP
- 9:39Speaker 1: number that was generated from that home and they were
- 9:43Speaker 1: able to provide it.
- 9:44Speaker 2: It's not an easy task and it's.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Not one that could just be done as a matter
- 9:48Speaker 1: of putting in a time. They have to go through
- 9:50Speaker 1: it and scrub through that footage. Now, my hopes, and
- 9:53Speaker 1: I mentioned this on Tuesday on KGVU, I my hopes
- 9:59Speaker 1: are the footage that the FBI shared with us, which
- 10:02Speaker 1: again is kind of scary as it is, may show
- 10:05Speaker 1: more than what they have released, because again you've got
- 10:12Speaker 1: to be somewhat careful in how they're going to give
- 10:16Speaker 1: up this information and what they're going to be showing,
- 10:18Speaker 1: because they don't want to show too much because again,
- 10:20Speaker 1: criminals are probably watching the news. The criminals in this case,
- 10:24Speaker 1: they believe are from this area because in their ransom notes,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they went ahead and they sent out the emails or
- 10:33Speaker 1: the saying their demands. They had sent that to a
- 10:37Speaker 1: couple of TV stations here in town. And my hopes
- 10:44Speaker 1: are is the video probably I would think caught a vehicle.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And when you work with the local authorities as well,
- 10:54Speaker 1: and you work with local businesses, banks Circle K there's
- 11:01Speaker 1: a Circle K that's nearby that has been mentioned a
- 11:04Speaker 1: couple of times, or anything in the area, maybe another
- 11:07Speaker 1: camera that somebody else has in their home.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I will tell you we had a.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Situation on my street where some neighbors across the street
- 11:17Speaker 1: they tended to have some trouble points and there was
- 11:21Speaker 1: one case where a fight occurred. And I do live
- 11:25Speaker 1: in a great neighborhood, but there was one case where
- 11:28Speaker 1: a fight occurred outside and I remember being home and
- 11:32Speaker 1: knocking the door Morana Pde and they wanted to look
- 11:36Speaker 1: at the cameras and I was able to provide that footage.
- 11:38Speaker 1: So they are certainly doing that with people that live
- 11:41Speaker 1: in the neighborhood. Now, with this footage that they've been
- 11:44Speaker 1: able to get, if they saw a vehicle, they can
- 11:46Speaker 1: combine that with others and also local businesses around that
- 11:51Speaker 1: timeline to hopefully get a better picture of maybe a
- 11:57Speaker 1: vehicle involved. That can also help them. So again, we
- 12:00Speaker 1: don't know how this is going to play out. I'm
- 12:03Speaker 1: just a lot of us are hoping for a safe return.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And again, as of record time, right now, there was
- 12:10Speaker 1: a questioning in Rio Rico that we know about, but
- 12:13Speaker 1: right now it's again up at the air. So I
- 12:16Speaker 1: wanted to make sure that for those that didn't hear
- 12:19Speaker 1: the afternoon show, we kind of explained that that data
- 12:23Speaker 1: gets uploaded to the cloud, and there were some people saying, well,
- 12:27Speaker 1: you know, you don't own this video once it goes
- 12:30Speaker 1: into the cloud.
- 12:31Speaker 2: There may be some truth to that.
- 12:34Speaker 1: It could very well be that once it moves from
- 12:38Speaker 1: your Google cameras and goes onto the Google servers, it's
- 12:41Speaker 1: part of that.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Now. They may keep it for two to six.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Months according to my discussion with Matt, and that could
- 12:50Speaker 1: be for situations like this or basically just a matter
- 12:54Speaker 1: of clearing it after time. So again, well we'll see
- 13:00Speaker 1: where that goes. But that's what that goes. If you
- 13:03Speaker 1: were thinking about a home security camera, And on my
- 13:08Speaker 1: segment on Fox eleven earlier this week, I did on
- 13:13Speaker 1: Monday talk about one of those solutions, garafit now Gearafit
- 13:20Speaker 1: is a company that it's made in China. However, the camera,
- 13:25Speaker 1: it's a small, little almost the size of a hockey puck,
- 13:28Speaker 1: and they've designed.
- 13:30Speaker 2: This so that it is inside.
- 13:32Speaker 1: The home but can look outside. They use this technology
- 13:37Speaker 1: called Chromax and it uses AI to generate what would
- 13:42Speaker 1: be color good full color images. If you looked on
- 13:46Speaker 1: my nest camera another one that I have that overlooks
- 13:50Speaker 1: the driveway, it's black and white. During the day it's color,
- 13:55Speaker 1: but at night it becomes black and white night vision
- 13:58Speaker 1: that type. However, with chrow AI, they're able to you
- 14:03Speaker 1: affix the camera to the window, the front window or
- 14:08Speaker 1: the back window, wherever you want to have it, and
- 14:10Speaker 1: it's applied via like a vel almost like a velcrow
- 14:16Speaker 1: and an adhesive that sticks that to that. You clean
- 14:19Speaker 1: the window first, get it all nice and clean. See
- 14:22Speaker 1: some people have thought, well, I could put my real link,
- 14:25Speaker 1: or I could put my wise camera just behind the
- 14:27Speaker 1: glass so I could look at the driveway or could
- 14:29Speaker 1: look at the backyard. Problem is you're gonna get glare.
- 14:33Speaker 1: You've got many cases of green light or a red
- 14:35Speaker 1: line on the camera. You're gonna see that reflecting, so
- 14:38Speaker 1: you don't get really the best picture. But using this
- 14:42Speaker 1: technology where it's right up against the glass, it comes
- 14:45Speaker 1: with a ten foot power cord, comes with the little
- 14:48Speaker 1: power adapter, does not come with an SD card, and
- 14:51Speaker 1: you do have the ability to subscribe to a service
- 14:55Speaker 1: that will store it in the cloud. But being that
- 14:58Speaker 1: it's inside and it has an SD card, you can
- 15:02Speaker 1: actually go online with your smartphone and you can go
- 15:06Speaker 1: ahead and okay, let's see that footage from two o'clock yesterday.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Because it's on the it's on the SD card, and
- 15:13Speaker 1: what happens is called the loop recording over time. That
- 15:16Speaker 1: will record over itself, so you don't have to worry
- 15:20Speaker 1: about having to change out at SD card. And if
- 15:23Speaker 1: you find footage like because most people aren't going to
- 15:26Speaker 1: let it go for four days.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Without checking that at some point.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Again, you can have push notifications set up vehicle moving
- 15:32Speaker 1: by person.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Uh.
- 15:34Speaker 1: There you can tell it I want to see is
- 15:37Speaker 1: it a face of somebody?
- 15:38Speaker 2: I know you could set that all up, uh and
- 15:43Speaker 2: it will.
- 15:44Speaker 1: Then with your smartphone, you can save that clip. So
- 15:48Speaker 1: if you've got a clip, a video clip, it's not
- 15:50Speaker 1: just still photos, it's video, you could actually.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Save that to your smartphone.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Uh, and then you know, send it to yourself, email it,
- 15:56Speaker 1: have it as a backup.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And I've you know, I've the same thing with the
- 16:01Speaker 2: Nest even though I have the subscription.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I'll go ahead and find some of my phone and
- 16:06Speaker 1: I'm going to save that one and you could save
- 16:08Speaker 1: it easily. But with a gear fit again you have
- 16:10Speaker 1: that and it's it's inexpensive. Well, you may see the
- 16:14Speaker 1: price of the Google Nest doorbell cameras going up.
- 16:19Speaker 2: You know, they can be kind of pricey.
- 16:21Speaker 1: The gearafit runs for about I want to say, forty
- 16:24Speaker 1: dollars per camera. You can get two cameras for right
- 16:28Speaker 1: around seventy nine dollars and again, pretty easy to use
- 16:32Speaker 1: and pretty easy to set up. As well, but the
- 16:34Speaker 1: Chromax thing is pretty amazing when it comes to the color.
- 16:38Speaker 2: That is a part of that.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Oh also I wanted to mention too on the Google
- 16:43Speaker 1: Nest doorbell camera. If you're going to get one of those, one.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Of the things is how easy is it to remove
- 16:52Speaker 2: that because.
- 16:52Speaker 1: You're going to have to remove it to charge it,
- 16:55Speaker 1: And somebody had to have been also managing that, or
- 17:00Speaker 1: missus Guthrie or maybe she was doing it herself. And
- 17:04Speaker 1: it's actually very easy to remove that camera if you
- 17:10Speaker 1: if you know what you're doing, if you're familiar with
- 17:11Speaker 1: that camera. And obviously this person that was on the
- 17:14Speaker 1: door set didn't have any clue and that's why they
- 17:17Speaker 1: ended up beating up the camera and knocking it off
- 17:19Speaker 1: the the the mount and that you could tell from
- 17:24Speaker 1: that mount once that camera is removed from the mount.
- 17:29Speaker 1: And I have you know, tested this myself by you know,
- 17:32Speaker 1: it's powered on.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I'm you know, going through the the the.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Camera, have it on my app and once I remove
- 17:40Speaker 1: it from the mount, it will disconnect and that means
- 17:44Speaker 1: that there's no video. You can't take that camera and
- 17:47Speaker 1: walk through the house and hold it up and show something.
- 17:51Speaker 1: It just doesn't work that way, it makes that connection
- 17:54Speaker 1: bridge with that mount that is affixed to you know,
- 17:58Speaker 1: your door, and that way, once it's pulled off of there,
- 18:03Speaker 1: you know that the camera has been disconnected. And so
- 18:07Speaker 1: if you go to look at your camera and says disconnected,
- 18:09Speaker 1: that's not a good thing. So again unless but even
- 18:13Speaker 1: if it's without power, it'll tell you you've run out
- 18:16Speaker 1: of power, and on your smartphone, it'll tell you how
- 18:18Speaker 1: much battery time is left, the whole bit. One thing
- 18:21Speaker 1: we haven't seen in the footage that the FBI shared
- 18:24Speaker 1: with us is timestamps, So I don't know if that
- 18:27Speaker 1: is something they'll end up being able to produce at
- 18:30Speaker 1: some point. But either way, when I get back to
- 18:32Speaker 1: the gear fed, I kind of wandered off there a
- 18:34Speaker 1: little sorry about that. I do that. If you listen
- 18:36Speaker 1: to my afternoon show, you know that I do that
- 18:38Speaker 1: once in a while if you want to get information
- 18:41Speaker 1: on and I'm hoping I'm pronouncing it.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Right, could be giraffic. So either way, take a look
- 18:50Speaker 2: at that.
- 18:50Speaker 1: If you're looking for a solution, you want to have
- 18:52Speaker 1: it inside the house, have an SD card in it,
- 18:55Speaker 1: because you don't want to put an SD card outside
- 18:57Speaker 1: because then you take it and that's gone. That SD
- 19:02Speaker 1: card has gone as well. Other people have suggested Real
- 19:06Speaker 1: Link and Matt. I talked with Matt read removed all
- 19:09Speaker 1: the Google Nest devices from his home and put Real
- 19:12Speaker 1: Link in there, and he is super happy with it
- 19:14Speaker 1: because the quality in AK is pretty amazing. Matter of fact,
- 19:20Speaker 1: Matt was telling us that on his driveway camera car
- 19:25Speaker 1: pulls up to the house, he can actually get the
- 19:28Speaker 1: license plate of that vehicle. I can't do that with
- 19:31Speaker 1: Google Nests, get kind a kind of a sample, but
- 19:34Speaker 1: with the quality that is available with the Real Link.
- 19:38Speaker 1: They make all kinds of cameras. They make door I
- 19:42Speaker 1: think they make a doorbell camera, but I do know
- 19:44Speaker 1: they make special security cameras. One of the cameras I
- 19:47Speaker 1: have from Real Link and the quality is really good. Also,
- 19:51Speaker 1: I bought it with a solar panel. So if some
- 19:56Speaker 1: people have found that if they've got a big yard,
- 19:59Speaker 1: they got property, they want to have it maybe behind
- 20:04Speaker 1: facing the house, so rather than the house looking at
- 20:07Speaker 1: the yard, they want to show it showing at the house.
- 20:10Speaker 1: So if somebody is there at the back door trying
- 20:13Speaker 1: to break in, they've got that footage because it's in
- 20:16Speaker 1: a tree, it's in a shed, can be installed with
- 20:21Speaker 1: that solar panel, so you never really have to worry
- 20:23Speaker 1: about having to get up there and change the camera out,
- 20:27Speaker 1: so you could take it and then power it up,
- 20:30Speaker 1: So again that is a real Link is good. They
- 20:33Speaker 1: also come with an SD card. They also upload to
- 20:36Speaker 1: the cloud. You can also with some of these devices
- 20:40Speaker 1: stream it to your own server. If you are technically
- 20:43Speaker 1: inclined and you want to set that up URTSP, you
- 20:45Speaker 1: could do that and then be able to access it
- 20:49Speaker 1: that way. And I know that's what Matt was doing
- 20:52Speaker 1: and was very pleased with that. And again I like
- 20:54Speaker 1: the quality of them. The real Link camera that I
- 20:58Speaker 1: have came in with a and actual water. It's kind
- 21:01Speaker 1: of a weather proofing on that camera, so you don't
- 21:05Speaker 1: have to worry so much about it in the elements
- 21:09Speaker 1: like some Wise cameras. I had a Wise camera. Actually
- 21:12Speaker 1: we had a camera outside and a heavy rainstorm came
- 21:17Speaker 1: through and it just wiped it wiped out the camera
- 21:20Speaker 1: and it's supposed to be an outdoor camera, but it
- 21:21Speaker 1: wiped it out. Other cameras that people have looked at
- 21:25Speaker 1: and we've shown in the past, talked about LEVU I've
- 21:29Speaker 1: not had good luck with the Leview cameras. The first
- 21:32Speaker 1: one I had, the camera, the lens burnt out. It
- 21:37Speaker 1: just completely burnt out. Because I was subscribed to their
- 21:41Speaker 1: service originally at sixty bucks a year to be able
- 21:44Speaker 1: to pull footage down the whole bit. They sent me
- 21:47Speaker 1: a new camera that worked for about four months and
- 21:52Speaker 1: then it just stopped working. Went through all the steps
- 21:55Speaker 1: for power and it was defective. So I decided not
- 21:59Speaker 1: cancel subscription and just don't use them, and with another
- 22:03Speaker 1: camera line, and of course Gearfit will also be one
- 22:06Speaker 1: of those that could be used, and it's a matter
- 22:08Speaker 1: of placing them where you want to place some Some
- 22:10Speaker 1: people have also found that Wise they have a screw in.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Camera mount. It screws right into your light.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Bulb, so if you have outdoor cameras that are high enough,
- 22:22Speaker 1: you could screw this in. It's powered off that light switch,
- 22:26Speaker 1: so you leave the light switch on all the time.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Then you could turn the light on and off with
- 22:30Speaker 1: the Wise app and then you can control that. They
- 22:34Speaker 1: even have a camera that you can turn, so if
- 22:37Speaker 1: you want to see what's going on over here or
- 22:40Speaker 1: what's going on over there, you could then turn it
- 22:42Speaker 1: So again, if you're thinking about home security cameras, this
- 22:48Speaker 1: national story has opened up a lot of people's eyes saying, hey, listen,
- 22:53Speaker 1: we need to have some kind of security to know
- 22:55Speaker 1: what's going on. And then set up your notifications to
- 22:58Speaker 1: notify you. And while it maybe a you know, a
- 23:01Speaker 1: little pain to you know, get up, there's a notification.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Oh there's a notification. You don't want to get complacent
- 23:08Speaker 1: in it because you just never know. And oh yeah, okay,
- 23:12Speaker 1: it's car going by. Some people have opted to turn
- 23:16Speaker 1: that feature off. They don't care when a car goes by.
- 23:18Speaker 1: I see turn it on. Turn it on. Know who's
- 23:21Speaker 1: parking in front of your home, Know who's parking in
- 23:23Speaker 1: your driveway, know who.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Seems to go Buy this again, this could be a
- 23:30Speaker 2: big help in this case as well.
- 23:32Speaker 1: So again something to think about it. And if you
- 23:34Speaker 1: have any questions about these cameras, you're looking at a
- 23:38Speaker 1: specific one, you want to know the quality. If I've
- 23:40Speaker 1: got some shots, I can send them to you. Just
- 23:44Speaker 1: drop me a line tech Guys to e H. G
- 23:47Speaker 1: U y s at tech talk radio dot com and
- 23:52Speaker 1: then you can hopefully that will help you make a decision.
- 23:56Speaker 1: If you're out last week on the show, Justin talked
- 23:59Speaker 1: about he is he's got the Tesla model why and
- 24:02Speaker 1: he talked about him getting a power wall, and some
- 24:05Speaker 1: people have said, well, if you know, if I want
- 24:09Speaker 1: to drive this distance, and I know we talked with
- 24:11Speaker 1: him about that when he first got his Tesla model.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Why you know, how is it if you drive across
- 24:16Speaker 1: the country and people have found well, there's a lot
- 24:19Speaker 1: of charging stations. Looks like Walmart is now in the
- 24:23Speaker 1: plans to build a nationwide ev charging network across its
- 24:28Speaker 1: forty six hundred stores here in the US. That means
- 24:31Speaker 1: it will be available to ninety percent of the population.
- 24:35Speaker 1: The initiative aims to address range anxiety, which of course
- 24:39Speaker 1: that was a question like.
- 24:40Speaker 2: How far can you go?
- 24:41Speaker 1: There's pretty much a Walmart just about everywhere, right, And
- 24:45Speaker 1: they love it because think about it, you park a
- 24:49Speaker 1: car to charge it and you go shopping. It's actually
- 24:53Speaker 1: a pretty good idea. They say this will increase customer
- 24:56Speaker 1: dwell time and of course generate some new revenue stream games. Now,
- 25:00Speaker 1: it doesn't mean they're obviously giving up the charging, uh,
- 25:04Speaker 1: the electricity for free, but again it means that it'll
- 25:08Speaker 1: be more available and again hopefully drive people to their stores,
- 25:13Speaker 1: just one way they're thinking.
- 25:15Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a quick break. We come back.
- 25:17Speaker 1: We've got best of from tech talk Radio ten years ago.
- 25:22Speaker 1: What were we talking about? Technology?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Once again?
- 25:25Speaker 1: Find us on the web tech talk radio dot com.
- 25:27Speaker 1: And of course today being Valentine's Day, Happy Valentine's Day.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I'm Andy Taylor. Will be right back with more of tech.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Talk Radio and now fact to tech talk Radio.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Oh Bill Nye, the science guy here whatever I am
- 25:42Speaker 1: listening to the radio, especially tech talk Radio. This is
- 25:47Speaker 1: tech Talk Radio.
- 25:48Speaker 2: I'm Andy Taylor and I'm justin welcome back.
- 25:52Speaker 1: So before the break, we're talking about upgrading your PC.
- 25:55Speaker 1: And there comes a time when you're just gonna say, gosh,
- 25:58Speaker 1: it's too slow, and there are things could do to
- 26:00Speaker 1: make it faster.
- 26:00Speaker 4: We know that, right, Sure we get a new gerbil
- 26:04Speaker 4: what as Yeah, yeah, put them in the cage and
- 26:08Speaker 4: let them go a little faster. You have to swap
- 26:10Speaker 4: them out every now and then, yeah, a break.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You know, and some people do everything from reinstalling their
- 26:16Speaker 1: operating system to upgrading their memory, which could be good.
- 26:21Speaker 2: That can be good. Both of those are pretty good solutions.
- 26:23Speaker 4: We've heard that story before, right, Yeah, we we covered
- 26:27Speaker 4: that before as well, and you.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Go through a lot of that. So I finally got
- 26:30Speaker 1: to the point I said, you know, I think, honestly,
- 26:33Speaker 1: two thousand and nine, that's a long time for a PIEC.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, two.
- 26:38Speaker 4: Thousand nine run the same operating system.
- 26:41Speaker 1: No, it started with Windows seven. Then we did the
- 26:44Speaker 1: Windows ten preview, which turned into a Windows ten install.
- 26:49Speaker 1: But I've not reinstalled it yet. Drive has got about
- 26:52Speaker 1: forty gigabyte left. I did change out the drives to
- 26:56Speaker 1: an SSD drive, and then I went ahead and you know,
- 26:59Speaker 1: just transfer for the operating system to that.
- 27:02Speaker 2: So I you know, it's not.
- 27:03Speaker 1: A clean install, and there's so many things about it,
- 27:06Speaker 1: and I decided, you know what, maybe it's time to
- 27:09Speaker 1: just upgrade that one PC. So I went out and
- 27:12Speaker 1: I started doing some research. I can't with the motherboard
- 27:16Speaker 1: I have put the USB three point zero or utilize
- 27:19Speaker 1: that with an extra add in card. I could, but
- 27:21Speaker 1: I'm still not gonna get the full bandwidth that's possible. Okay,
- 27:24Speaker 1: So I just said, you know what, maybe it's time
- 27:27Speaker 1: to go ahead and get a motherboard that is USB
- 27:30Speaker 1: three point Oh. But I can't find a motherboard for
- 27:33Speaker 1: that processor.
- 27:34Speaker 2: So when you start.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Looking and going, okay, well, I can't just change out
- 27:38Speaker 1: the processor. I gotta change out the board. But if
- 27:40Speaker 1: I change out the board, I've got to change out
- 27:42Speaker 1: the memory. There's a new memory stand So that's where
- 27:46Speaker 1: I said, all right, time it's time to do an upgrade.
- 27:48Speaker 1: After costs and everything, we're about right about one thousand
- 27:51Speaker 1: dollars for the motherboard or just just for basically doing
- 27:56Speaker 1: a complete, basically overhaul of the system. In a I'll
- 28:01Speaker 1: keep my same case, keep the same power supply. I've
- 28:03Speaker 1: got a nine hundred WAD power supply in there, so
- 28:06Speaker 1: we keep that nice. Keep my Blu ray burner, keep
- 28:08Speaker 1: my DVD burner, hard drive also changing. But here here's
- 28:12Speaker 1: what I'm looking at. There's a company called Michigan that
- 28:16Speaker 1: makes DDR for memory. So there's other companies out there.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I've always liked Kingston, Crucials good. So I'm looking at
- 28:23Speaker 1: doing two sixteen gigabyte chips. So I get thirty two gigabytes.
- 28:27Speaker 1: My current board will only support up to love this
- 28:31Speaker 1: one sixteen GIGABYTESO. Yeah, that's kind of sad. So now
- 28:36Speaker 1: I can double that and the cost for that is
- 28:39Speaker 1: about ninety nine bucks per stick, so two hundred dollars
- 28:42Speaker 1: upgrade to thirty two gigabytes.
- 28:44Speaker 2: It's not bad.
- 28:46Speaker 1: I could change out the I have to change out
- 28:48Speaker 1: the cooling fan. There's a company called, I want to say, Nashua.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Have you heard of that.
- 28:54Speaker 1: No, it begins with it begins with an N.
- 28:58Speaker 4: And there's this a cooling fan for the case.
- 28:59Speaker 2: For the process.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Okay, man, the guy was recommending this seventy seventy nine
- 29:04Speaker 1: bucks for a cooling fan. I've got a V ten
- 29:07Speaker 1: in there from cooler Master, which is great, but it
- 29:09Speaker 1: won't have the right See this is where you get
- 29:11Speaker 1: into the upgrading nightmare. It won't have the right connectors
- 29:14Speaker 1: for that motherboard and the motherboard. Let me let me
- 29:17Speaker 1: keep the.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Motherboard that I'm looking at.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I have my choices gigabyte, gigab gigabyte, as Rock,
- 29:26Speaker 1: Asus or as Rock. Yeah, I call it as Rock
- 29:29Speaker 1: or a SUS A.
- 29:31Speaker 5: S us waits is ASRock.
- 29:33Speaker 2: No.
- 29:35Speaker 1: ASRock was spun off from Asus some years ago, but
- 29:38Speaker 1: it's not the same company. You're gonna find maybe a
- 29:41Speaker 1: little different board component with the Asus line.
- 29:44Speaker 2: The ACEUS board.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I'm looking at is the Z one seventy A, which
- 29:48Speaker 1: is USB three point one supports the eleven to fifty
- 29:53Speaker 1: one processor, which I'm looking at six generation Intel Arc
- 29:57Speaker 1: processor has tons, tons of those special easet of connections
- 30:04Speaker 1: that Intel is put out, but also will support that
- 30:08Speaker 1: new faster Have you heard about this faster uh hard drive?
- 30:12Speaker 1: It's a it's it's like an SSD, but it's a
- 30:14Speaker 1: PCI card. But the throughput is a seriously like four times.
- 30:19Speaker 1: But you get off an SSD, it say, it blows
- 30:22Speaker 1: away the EBO. But again you're gonna pay more money
- 30:25Speaker 1: for him. And you get a two hundred and fifty six.
- 30:28Speaker 1: You get a two hundred and fifty six gigabit you
- 30:31Speaker 1: know card, plug that in and then you can stripe them.
- 30:34Speaker 1: So you add another card and you get double that performance.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I mean, it's pretty amazing, he says. A PC yeah,
- 30:39Speaker 1: PCI Express.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Now I haven't looked this up, so I don't know
- 30:42Speaker 4: which is the faster bus, is it?
- 30:44Speaker 1: The PCI Express is gonna be the faster one in
- 30:46Speaker 1: this case for your read writes on your on your drive.
- 30:49Speaker 1: It's pretty amazing, you know.
- 30:50Speaker 2: So I've been looking at that.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Obviously I have to do I had I would have
- 30:55Speaker 1: to do a new install of Windows ten, so I'd
- 30:57Speaker 1: have to buy a license for Windows ten. Because right,
- 31:00Speaker 1: because a new hardware, everything gets a new hardware. So
- 31:02Speaker 1: you're in that point there where you're really kind of
- 31:04Speaker 1: stuck with how far you go?
- 31:05Speaker 2: And then the process or unless you go Linux, don't
- 31:09Speaker 2: don't even.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Take me there, all right, and then the process or
- 31:12Speaker 1: I'm looking at so let me get your thoughts of this.
- 31:15Speaker 2: How important is overclocking?
- 31:17Speaker 5: Oh, it depends on what you want to do with it.
- 31:21Speaker 5: I overclock, but I play games, right, and I overclock
- 31:24Speaker 5: not only my CPU, but I overclocked my graphics card,
- 31:27Speaker 5: my GPU. You know, I've actually got my computer. I
- 31:30Speaker 5: have what is it, an I five Sandy Bridge. I
- 31:34Speaker 5: don't remember exactly the model number.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I have an I five and I like it, but
- 31:38Speaker 2: I have it.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Mine is rated at three point two gigaherts. Okay, I've
- 31:42Speaker 5: overclocked it to four gigaherts.
- 31:44Speaker 2: Oh lord, And I'm.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Not using water cooling. I'm actually using air cooling, and
- 31:48Speaker 5: not yet. I can still keep my computer even under
- 31:52Speaker 5: like a heavy load, I can still keep it at
- 31:54Speaker 5: a pretty decent temperature. And on top of that, I
- 31:57Speaker 5: have an application that I run that can overclock my
- 32:00Speaker 5: GPU on demand. So when I go to launch a game,
- 32:03Speaker 5: I'll click a button. It overclocks my GPU by about
- 32:06Speaker 5: thirty percent, and I do it, and it allows me
- 32:09Speaker 5: to get better frame rates, better you know, processing power everything.
- 32:13Speaker 5: So it depends on what you want to do. If
- 32:14Speaker 5: you're a power user, yeah, overclock's important. But see there
- 32:18Speaker 5: was not don't worry about it. There was a software glitch.
- 32:20Speaker 5: I guess that Intel is fixing.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And if you heard about this this past past week
- 32:25Speaker 1: that the sixty say sixty seven hundred processors, if you
- 32:31Speaker 1: get the K classification on your processor, that means then
- 32:35Speaker 1: you can overclock that processor. So you go into your
- 32:38Speaker 1: system bios, which is kind of where your computer sits,
- 32:42Speaker 1: you know, it's it kind of controls everything and you
- 32:44Speaker 1: could tell it no, go ahead and overclock. But if
- 32:47Speaker 1: you had a K processor, it is unlocked, so it
- 32:51Speaker 1: gives you that capability to overclock. If you had just
- 32:55Speaker 1: the sixty seven hundred processor, then you don't have that
- 32:59Speaker 1: ability to overclock. But there was a glitch and it
- 33:01Speaker 1: was allowing people to overclock.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Oh wow, and Intel a thing. No, it's not made
- 33:04Speaker 2: for that.
- 33:05Speaker 1: But honestly, you pay more money for the cave version
- 33:07Speaker 1: of that processor. I think to be able to unlock it.
- 33:09Speaker 4: I think there would be three places you're probably gonna
- 33:12Speaker 4: want to. I mean, this would be me, you know me,
- 33:14Speaker 4: I'm looking up everything all over the place. To me, there,
- 33:17Speaker 4: you're gonna be looking at three places to get more
- 33:19Speaker 4: information about the overclocking, to see about the compatibility issue.
- 33:23Speaker 4: One would be you know, Intel, their website, right, okay.
- 33:26Speaker 4: Two would be the motherboard manufacturer because a lot of
- 33:29Speaker 4: them do address it. Yeah, go ahead and overclock or
- 33:31Speaker 4: for the overclock, overclock that way. The third is gonna be,
- 33:34Speaker 4: which is where I was aheaded with this with you anyway.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I kind of got an idea of what Andy uses
- 33:39Speaker 4: his computers for in general anyway, you know, like video
- 33:42Speaker 4: editing and stuff.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Like that about it.
- 33:43Speaker 4: Yeah, the software. I mean, unless you're gonna have problems
- 33:47Speaker 4: with the software that you're gonna use than overclock, if
- 33:51Speaker 4: you notice there are gonna be some issues. If you
- 33:53Speaker 4: notice some problems and issues, yeah, you probably have to
- 33:55Speaker 4: dial it.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Back, dial it back a bit. Yeah. So I don't know,
- 33:58Speaker 1: all of a sudden, done got up to the counter
- 34:00Speaker 1: with my motherboard my power supply, my memory. I was excited.
- 34:04Speaker 1: I was ready to go. They were out of processors.
- 34:06Speaker 1: They were processors. So it turned into one of those
- 34:11Speaker 1: things where I walked away and then they said they
- 34:12Speaker 1: would call me when they got one in. They got
- 34:14Speaker 1: one in. But it's a CM model, which means it
- 34:16Speaker 1: only has a one year warranty. It's called a tray model.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It's what they give to Dell and Toshiba and all
- 34:21Speaker 1: of that, So you only get a one year warranty
- 34:23Speaker 1: with it versus like an oem Brett versus a three
- 34:26Speaker 1: year from the box, which.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I think, I don't know. I just feel better having that.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Three year warranty here.
- 34:31Speaker 4: So did I haven't heard about So let me just
- 34:33Speaker 4: throw it out there because I'm just curious if you
- 34:35Speaker 4: if you two have heard about it. Anybody heard any
- 34:37Speaker 4: problems with overclocking the processor when it comes to RAM?
- 34:41Speaker 1: Oh ye, well your ram's got to be able to
- 34:42Speaker 1: keep it.
- 34:42Speaker 5: Well, yeah, the Ram's gonna keep it and it's also
- 34:44Speaker 5: going to get a lot hotter too.
- 34:45Speaker 2: So I've seen people justin.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I've seen people buy
- 34:49Speaker 1: the cheapest motherboards justin, and then I'm sorry.
- 34:56Speaker 4: No, I think he was just addressing.
- 34:58Speaker 1: And then over o'clock and it and buy the most
- 35:01Speaker 1: expensive graphics card and think everything's gonna be okay, and
- 35:04Speaker 1: then when their system starts blue screening and crutting out,
- 35:07Speaker 1: they say, oh, wait a minute, maybe it's my motherboard.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Dustin exactly sure what.
- 35:17Speaker 5: You're referring to, because my computer runs great back in two.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I remember some years ago you asked me of my recommendation,
- 35:24Speaker 1: and I told you you went against what I recommended,
- 35:26Speaker 1: got the cheaper motherboard, and then you started having issues
- 35:29Speaker 1: with it. Is no.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Actually, the only issue I had was I had one
- 35:35Speaker 5: dead USB or no Sata three. I had one dead
- 35:39Speaker 5: Sata three port on my motherboard, so I couldn't connect
- 35:43Speaker 5: up the latest fastest SETA model to my hard drive.
- 35:48Speaker 5: I had to connect it to the state of two port.
- 35:51Speaker 5: And I remember talking to you about that, and we
- 35:53Speaker 5: talked about whether or I should ship it back, and
- 35:55Speaker 5: I said, well, you know what, I've already built the computer,
- 35:57Speaker 5: it's already running. I'm not going to go and tear
- 35:59Speaker 5: it apart and go to send it back. So I
- 36:01Speaker 5: just I've been dealing with it, and it's been fine
- 36:03Speaker 5: for what now it's five years and I still have
- 36:07Speaker 5: any issues. I mean, I've got enough space. I got
- 36:09Speaker 5: enough hard drive space. Yes, I need to go with
- 36:10Speaker 5: a cheaper model, but I didn't have those blue screen
- 36:13Speaker 5: issues like you're talking about. I'm actually surprised, to be honest,
- 36:16Speaker 5: I'm surprised at my computer. I spent a total of
- 36:19Speaker 5: three thousand dollars on my computer.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Wow wow.
- 36:23Speaker 5: But that's including that's including a BenQ monitor. I had
- 36:25Speaker 5: a gaming monitor, so I.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Bought a ben Yeah.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Well that's okay, So fine, Fine, Let's let's say it's
- 36:31Speaker 5: twenty five hundred dollars because the monitor itself was five
- 36:33Speaker 5: hundred because it was a gaming monitor. So it's an
- 36:36Speaker 5: LED LCD, you know, flat panel, but it can run
- 36:38Speaker 5: up to one hundred and twenty hurts, which is what
- 36:40Speaker 5: those old fat CRT model monitors are like. So it's
- 36:44Speaker 5: it's designed for gaming. It can give you the faster
- 36:46Speaker 5: refresh rate that an LCD LED monitor can't do. But
- 36:49Speaker 5: otherwise my computer runs great, right, and and and it
- 36:53Speaker 5: was one last thing I just want to mention real quick.
- 36:55Speaker 5: I mentioned this before the website. If you're looking to
- 36:57Speaker 5: upgrade your computer, go to PCPartPicker dot com.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I love that site.
- 37:00Speaker 1: All right, good, I'm gonna be honest.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a great site.
- 37:03Speaker 5: You can just put in your budget to say, hey,
- 37:05Speaker 5: I want to spend a thousand dollars build me a PC,
- 37:07Speaker 5: and it will build you a PC with all compatible parts.
- 37:10Speaker 2: All right, we'll be back with more of tech Talk Radio.
- 37:12Speaker 4: That was Andy. I am Slick and I'm Justin.
- 37:15Speaker 2: We'll be right back.
- 37:16Speaker 3: And now back to tech talk Radio.
- 37:19Speaker 2: This is tech Talk Radio and justin I'm Andy Taylor.
- 37:23Speaker 1: So people have been wanting to have the flash on
- 37:26Speaker 1: their phone. I'm not talking about a flash like you know,
- 37:29Speaker 1: take a picture and there's a flash of you, but
- 37:31Speaker 1: it actually utilizes that to remind you that you have
- 37:35Speaker 1: a message or a phone call you may have missed.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Do you remember remember your phones used to do that?
- 37:40Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 37:40Speaker 5: No, I mine still.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Does you have an iPhone?
- 37:46Speaker 5: No?
- 37:46Speaker 2: I have an Android.
- 37:47Speaker 4: Oh that's what I'm ben.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Why wait, that's why androids better.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Your phone does have that little flashing blue light, right,
- 37:54Speaker 1: it has actually has multiple It has blue light for
- 37:57Speaker 1: like messages, it has a Yello light for Snapchat, it
- 37:59Speaker 1: has a purple light for Facebook. Wow.
- 38:02Speaker 4: By the way, you should tell what you making model
- 38:04Speaker 4: you have.
- 38:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I have the Samsung Galaxy S six Edge Plus.
- 38:08Speaker 4: Stop bragging, so I can go in.
- 38:10Speaker 1: I have one of those, but I just don't have
- 38:12Speaker 1: service right now. But I could go in and set
- 38:14Speaker 1: that so that if I get a snap, it'll be
- 38:16Speaker 1: one color if I insta actually automatic. Really, Oh that's
- 38:19Speaker 1: kind of cool.
- 38:20Speaker 2: All right.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Well, if you have an iPhone and you feel left
- 38:22Speaker 1: out in this world of tech, it's very easy to
- 38:25Speaker 1: add this feature, but I must warn you it's bright.
- 38:31Speaker 1: It's using the accessibility features of your iPhone to give
- 38:35Speaker 1: you that notification that you have a message or a
- 38:37Speaker 1: phone call coming in because you've wanted to have some
- 38:40Speaker 1: kind Because if your phone's down, face down, you have
- 38:43Speaker 1: the ringer off, it's on silent, no vibration, you have
- 38:45Speaker 1: no idea.
- 38:46Speaker 2: Just your screen is lit up, but you may not
- 38:48Speaker 2: even see it.
- 38:48Speaker 4: I think I know where you're going with this. Go ahead, if.
- 38:50Speaker 1: You go into your take your iPhone, if you have them,
- 38:53Speaker 1: you can follow along. You go into your settings tab.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Then you very easily scroll down go to your general tab.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Once you're in General, if you scroll down, you're gonna
- 39:02Speaker 1: see something that says accessibility. Now, justin slick you want
- 39:07Speaker 1: to explain maybe what accessibility means.
- 39:09Speaker 4: This is for people who have let's say low vision
- 39:13Speaker 4: or you know they're also well. Now, when we talk
- 39:16Speaker 4: about accessibility in general, we're talking about visual cues as
- 39:19Speaker 4: well as audible cues.
- 39:21Speaker 1: And when it comes to having a phoney people that
- 39:24Speaker 1: maybe are hard of hearing or cannot see can still
- 39:26Speaker 1: use technology, but they need a little assistance through accessibility.
- 39:30Speaker 1: So you click the accessibility tab and scroll down, you're
- 39:34Speaker 1: gonna find underhearing a couple of a couple of options.
- 39:39Speaker 1: One of them is led flash for alerts. Simply turn
- 39:42Speaker 1: it on so next time. Then when you get out
- 39:45Speaker 1: of the screen next time, when you get a message
- 39:47Speaker 1: or a text, your actual flash that's used to take
- 39:50Speaker 1: a picture, which is pretty bright, will go off. I
- 39:54Speaker 1: gotta tell you a friend of mine she set the
- 39:56Speaker 1: alarm using this because I told her about it. She
- 39:59Speaker 1: set the alarm sleep of course, but it came time
- 40:01Speaker 1: to wake up she had it looked like the police
- 40:03Speaker 1: were in her house because it was going off so bright.
- 40:06Speaker 1: So just be aware of that that it will do that.
- 40:09Speaker 1: But if you wanted that feature, there's a little tip
- 40:11Speaker 1: for you to turn that back off.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Accessibility.
- 40:13Speaker 1: That's in general, right, that's in general. Yeah, so very
- 40:15Speaker 1: nice thing to have. I like that.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I like that. All right, Uh, we are we gonna
- 40:20Speaker 2: do sixty second Tech today.
- 40:22Speaker 1: All right, I don't know, are you guys ready for
- 40:24Speaker 1: I'm ready for a round of sixty second Tech. Okay,
- 40:27Speaker 1: I've got a lot to talk about.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Oh well, then I think you should start it out
- 40:30Speaker 2: all right, all right, all right, gotta get the timer.
- 40:34Speaker 5: Hold on, gotta get the timer. Okay, here we go.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Are you ready?
- 40:39Speaker 2: Let's see?
- 40:40Speaker 5: This is sixty second Tech featuring Andy Taylor.
- 40:43Speaker 1: When you go to a shop, you've got to be
- 40:46Speaker 1: really careful. And I really say the first thing you
- 40:48Speaker 1: should do when you're shopping for technology is do your research. Now,
- 40:52Speaker 1: it seems funny if you we think you just walk
- 40:54Speaker 1: into a store and say, oh, look at that, it's
- 40:56Speaker 1: cheaper here than it is next door. No, it's not
- 40:59Speaker 1: that much research. It's research as to what you really
- 41:02Speaker 1: get with the product. There's a series of laptops that
- 41:05Speaker 1: are out there, and we're talking HP, Toshiba, Dell, Lenovo.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Maybe you haven't thought about Lenovo. Well, I was at
- 41:12Speaker 1: the store recently and I found an HP laptop with
- 41:16Speaker 1: four gigabytes of memory, a five hundred gigabyte hard drive,
- 41:21Speaker 1: a fifteen point six inch screen, four cell battery, and
- 41:25Speaker 1: you know what, it was priced at two ninety nine.
- 41:27Speaker 1: What a great deal?
- 41:28Speaker 4: Right wow?
- 41:29Speaker 1: Right next to it, I saw Lenova eight gigabytes of memory,
- 41:33Speaker 1: five hundred gigabyte hard drive, fifteen point six inch screen,
- 41:38Speaker 1: light thin, and it was only three nineteen twenty dollars more.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Better deal. Do your research when you're shopping.
- 41:46Speaker 5: What is it?
- 41:46Speaker 4: Good job, perfect timing I.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Got, and I got my chance to run. Now, Slick,
- 41:51Speaker 1: you're gonn tell us a little bit about this laptop
- 41:53Speaker 1: coming up your thoughts too? Oh?
- 41:55Speaker 4: Actually I really do. Yeah, I do like it. It's
- 41:57Speaker 4: really nice sitting here right in front of me. I
- 41:58Speaker 4: haven't got a chance to hack passed his account yet.
- 42:01Speaker 4: I just any time. Plus he's watching me.
- 42:05Speaker 5: So you're up next, Slick for sixty second Tech.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Okay, here we go.
- 42:08Speaker 5: All right, This is sixty second Tech featuring Slick.
- 42:11Speaker 4: And mine also has to do with Apple iOS and alerts.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Little quincidence. First, let me I'll give this to you
- 42:19Speaker 4: and again, so get a pen and paper. I got
- 42:21Speaker 4: this information from support that Apple dot com for slash
- 42:25Speaker 4: ian us Ford slash h T two zero one, nine
- 42:32Speaker 4: to five.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Are you just stretching this to take up the sixty seconds.
- 42:36Speaker 4: No, I just want to make sure that people can
- 42:37Speaker 4: get back to it. It has to do with banner alerts,
- 42:40Speaker 4: because it just kind of caught me by surprise. All right,
- 42:42Speaker 4: I remember, I don't really I'm not a big Apple guy,
- 42:44Speaker 4: and I got one on a hand me down. Don't
- 42:45Speaker 4: even have phone service on. I just use it for
- 42:47Speaker 4: data information to the way. But ban alerts you can
- 42:50Speaker 4: reply on ben alerts to swipe down on the banner
- 42:53Speaker 4: to just missus, you can swipe up. I didn't even
- 42:56Speaker 4: know that. I had no clue, none of whatsoever. And
- 42:58Speaker 4: if you don't reply or dismiss a banterer alert, it
- 43:01Speaker 4: will go away automatically. Again, did not know with alerts
- 43:06Speaker 4: you got to act on them before you can move
- 43:08Speaker 4: on though, with these ban alerts once you set it up,
- 43:09Speaker 4: because that's what I did, right, and that's what I.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Need is ready? Alright? Yeah? All right? Seconds?
- 43:17Speaker 5: Okay, Well, if you wouldn't have taken fifteen seconds to
- 43:20Speaker 5: give the website.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I wanted to make sure that people can get back
- 43:23Speaker 4: to it.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Hey, you know what, if you want to get that address,
- 43:26Speaker 1: we'll put it up on our Facebook page, Facebook dot
- 43:28Speaker 1: com forward slash tech talkers. See and now for sixty
- 43:32Speaker 1: second ten.
- 43:34Speaker 2: It's justin.
- 43:36Speaker 5: So the next step in driverless automation systems just happened.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Google just got a patent for a driverless package delivery system.
- 43:47Speaker 5: Say goodbye to UPS and FedEx because this could actually
- 43:51Speaker 5: compete with UPS and currently can compete with Amazon drones.
- 43:57Speaker 5: Amazon prepares its fleet of delivery drones. Google might also
- 44:00Speaker 5: be throwing its hat into the ring with this new patent.
- 44:03Speaker 5: The patent describes an autonomous delivery platform for delivery trucks.
- 44:07Speaker 5: The trucks would contain a series of lockers that could
- 44:09Speaker 5: be unlocked with the pin code sent to the person
- 44:12Speaker 5: waiting for the delivery. Then the customers would open the
- 44:14Speaker 5: lockers with their credit cards or you could use NFC,
- 44:18Speaker 5: you know, nearfield communication. After a package is dropped off,
- 44:21Speaker 5: the truck would be programmed to continue to its next
- 44:23Speaker 5: destination or return to the depot to learn to get
- 44:27Speaker 5: additional packages. So hm hmm, are we gonna say goodbye
- 44:31Speaker 5: to FedEx and UPS here pretty soon?
- 44:33Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 44:34Speaker 5: Maybe there you go sixty second. Actually I did mine
- 44:39Speaker 5: at two to nine secs.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Oh you're just the pro, aren't you.
- 44:42Speaker 4: I'll take you a second. Can I use this?
- 44:44Speaker 5: This is how, this is how, this is how we
- 44:46Speaker 5: do this in the professional industry.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Guys, let's do it fifty nine seconds.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Nice, very good. I liked it.
- 44:53Speaker 4: Hey, did you bought the the nt NHTSA Transportation Systems
- 44:58Speaker 4: Administration whatever traffic could say? Good mystery. Do you hear
- 45:01Speaker 4: about their Uh? Yeah, that's them too. Did you did
- 45:05Speaker 4: you hear about them saying that a Google uh automated
- 45:09Speaker 4: drive driver driving car?
- 45:10Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, yeah, yeah, I heard about that.
- 45:12Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 45:13Speaker 1: So but basically they're saying that, uh the I guess
- 45:16Speaker 1: the federal government is saying that the driverless car. Uh
- 45:20Speaker 1: that's rule run by a computer classifies it as a driver.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 45:25Speaker 5: So does that mean here needs to get a driver's license? No?
- 45:29Speaker 4: Well yes, yes, technically yes bye by federal law. But
- 45:34Speaker 4: the driver the car it will be designated a driver.
- 45:37Speaker 4: An automated car can be, at least by Google, designated
- 45:40Speaker 4: a driver.
- 45:41Speaker 1: So I don't know the ramifications of this. According to
- 45:45Speaker 1: this this group, that's kind of keeping an eye on
- 45:47Speaker 1: this are saying that Google's technology is not imperfect. Uh,
- 45:51Speaker 1: it's it's it has not been perfected yet, right, they
- 45:54Speaker 1: need they need to.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Perfect Okay, Yeah, because yeah, what happens if a driver's
- 45:59Speaker 2: car gets.
- 45:59Speaker 4: In ancient exactly?
- 46:00Speaker 5: Get how are you gonna get insurance information where there's
- 46:03Speaker 5: no driver sitting in it?
- 46:04Speaker 4: I don't know, you know, but the statement is, you know,
- 46:07Speaker 4: and NHTSA will interpret driver in the context of Google's
- 46:11Speaker 4: describe motor vehicle design as referring to the self driving
- 46:13Speaker 4: system and not to any of the vehicle occupants. That
- 46:18Speaker 4: is a direct quote.
- 46:19Speaker 5: Interesting.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Wow, I don't know. Would you get in a car
- 46:22Speaker 1: that was being driven by a computer? Absolutely, I think
- 46:24Speaker 1: it'd be awesome, really, Johnny Cab, Yeah, totally. I don't
- 46:28Speaker 1: think so.
- 46:29Speaker 2: I think I would.
- 46:30Speaker 1: I would rather get in a vehicle with somebody that
- 46:33Speaker 1: was driving, rather than a car that's being driven by
- 46:36Speaker 1: a computer.
- 46:36Speaker 4: Well, here's the thing, I don't think it's for me.
- 46:38Speaker 4: For me, it's not necessarily an issue in an urban environment. However,
- 46:42Speaker 4: once you're talking about highway and freeway speeds, because I'm
- 46:46Speaker 4: flashing back to the trains in Germany, that just kind
- 46:48Speaker 4: of smacked into each other.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, that just happened in that Yeah, I mean that.
- 46:53Speaker 4: That scares me. That really scares me.
- 46:56Speaker 1: And again they're being run by.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Automation system and the automation in Germany, which is one
- 47:01Speaker 4: of the best train systems in the world. The breaking
- 47:04Speaker 4: systems did not kick in.
- 47:06Speaker 5: Well, okay, I think we're missing something here though. Even
- 47:09Speaker 5: with Google driverless cars, there's still gonna be a lot
- 47:13Speaker 5: of times, at least for the near future, as in
- 47:16Speaker 5: terms of like ten years from now or whatever, there's
- 47:18Speaker 5: still going to be somebody sitting behind the wheel and
- 47:22Speaker 5: there is an override. There is an override.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Oh, come on, not is I know if they're planning
- 47:27Speaker 1: that at some point in the next you know, ten years,
- 47:30Speaker 1: I forget that. Nolan Bushnell. I think it said that
- 47:33Speaker 1: there will be no such thing as going up for drive.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Your cars will do it for you. Okay, well for
- 47:37Speaker 5: at least for the at least for the next ten years.
- 47:39Speaker 5: And look at how far we've come in the last
- 47:41Speaker 5: ten years of technology. Okay, So for the next ten years,
- 47:44Speaker 5: there will at least be somebody sitting behind the car
- 47:46Speaker 5: with an override system that they could override the computer
- 47:48Speaker 5: and say no, I want to take control now. But
- 47:51Speaker 5: the benefits of a driverless car system are immense. Think
- 47:54Speaker 5: about it. All the cars on the road talking to
- 47:56Speaker 5: each other at the same time. Every car knows what
- 47:59Speaker 5: the other car is going to do. No more traffic jams,
- 48:02Speaker 5: no more slowdowns, no more cutting people off. Everything will
- 48:05Speaker 5: be done by computers, and they'll be able to determine
- 48:08Speaker 5: what's going to happen.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Have you ever used drivers?
- 48:12Speaker 1: Have you ever used a car with an automatic braking
- 48:14Speaker 1: system when you're over when you're going over a cow?
- 48:16Speaker 2: Great? Yeah, no, not not good.
- 48:19Speaker 5: My Oudi's got that. It's kind of crazy. If I
- 48:21Speaker 5: try to switch lanes, it'll be like it'll jerk my
- 48:23Speaker 5: my steering wheel back a little bit.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Not enough, not enough to you know, just enough to
- 48:26Speaker 1: be like, hey watch. I've talked to professional drivers, people
- 48:29Speaker 1: who drive for a living, who all agree they do
- 48:32Speaker 1: not like this automation in vehicles.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Because it takes them out of a job.
- 48:36Speaker 1: But not just that, it's that we're putting our trust.
- 48:38Speaker 1: I put my life in the hands of a computer.
- 48:41Speaker 5: Hands of computers.
- 48:42Speaker 1: The last thing I want to see before I go
- 48:44Speaker 1: is a blue screen.
- 48:46Speaker 5: Come on, Andy, we've put we've put our lives in
- 48:49Speaker 5: front of computers to control our lives for the last
- 48:51Speaker 5: twenty years.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Well may you yeah, all right, we'll be back right back.
- 48:56Speaker 1: This is tech talk Radio.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Our website tech talk radio dot com.
- 49:01Speaker 1: At our Facebook page Facebook dot com. Forward slash, go ahead,
- 49:05Speaker 1: tech talkers. We'll be right back there you go, slow, pope.
- 49:09Speaker 3: And now fact to tech talk Radio.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I hope you enjoyed the couple of segments there recorded
- 49:14Speaker 1: this week back in twenty sixteen, ten years ago. It
- 49:17Speaker 1: was kind of interesting in the segment because I was
- 49:19Speaker 1: listening back with it with you as well. How Justinan
- 49:22Speaker 1: mentioned ten years from now talking about driverless cars and
- 49:27Speaker 1: where we were going to be. Well, here we are
- 49:29Speaker 1: ten years later.
- 49:30Speaker 2: The technology has certainly come a long way, but again
- 49:33Speaker 2: we'll continue to see how this all develops when it
- 49:37Speaker 2: comes to that type of technology. Now we're coming up.
- 49:39Speaker 1: We're going to give you a section from the show
- 49:41Speaker 1: from ten years ago where we talked about a website
- 49:44Speaker 1: of the week.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Pretty cool website as well.
- 49:46Speaker 1: But I wanted to mention this if you ever watched
- 49:48Speaker 1: the show Black Mirror on Netflix. If you haven't seen
- 49:52Speaker 1: it and you like science fiction. You remember The Outer Limits,
- 49:54Speaker 1: You remember Twilight Zone?
- 49:56Speaker 2: Super Good? The creator of that, Charlie Booker, says the
- 49:59Speaker 2: SERI he's gonna return for season eight, just in time for.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Reality to catch up with it. Oh, that's gonna be good.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Now.
- 50:06Speaker 1: If you have not seen this show yet, I want
- 50:09Speaker 1: you to go look for it on Netflix.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Season two episode one.
- 50:14Speaker 1: I think it is probably one of the best of
- 50:18Speaker 1: the whole series. Everybody else has their favorites, but season
- 50:22Speaker 1: two episode one was ahead of its time. Would hit
- 50:25Speaker 1: Ai and robotics head on?
- 50:27Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Season two that's quite a while ago. That episode called
- 50:31Speaker 1: be right Back, and it's kind of we've seen the
- 50:35Speaker 1: parallels and almost you know the same thing that they're
- 50:39Speaker 1: trying to do with technology in that. So again Netflix,
- 50:44Speaker 1: Black Mirror. Apparently Black Mirror going to be coming back now.
- 50:48Speaker 1: If you have a website that you want to share
- 50:50Speaker 1: with us, feel free to drop us in meal email

- 51:02Speaker 1: Text behind the image, Like maybe you took a trip somewhere,
- 51:06Speaker 1: you know, when you went to Paris, you went to London.
- 51:08Speaker 1: You can put that behind you text behind image dot
- 51:11Speaker 1: com And now back to the show.
- 51:15Speaker 2: Welcome back to tech Talk Radio.
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm Justintimslick and I am Andy Taylor. This is the
- 51:19Speaker 1: moment of the show that we reserve for our website
- 51:23Speaker 1: the week. Actually have a couple of websites for you.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Ah yeah, there's this new website.
- 51:27Speaker 5: It's coming out here. Do you want to go on
- 51:28Speaker 5: a vacation, yes, but you don't exactly know where you
- 51:31Speaker 5: want to go.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Now I know where I want to go.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Okay, well this company is not for you. Then, all right.
- 51:35Speaker 5: This is a company that is a startup company that
- 51:38Speaker 5: is called pack Up and Go and you can actually
- 51:41Speaker 5: go to it. It's pack Up, pack Upgo dot com.
- 51:45Speaker 5: It's a three day vacation. It will plan every aspect
- 51:48Speaker 5: of your trip for you. But the catches you don't
- 51:52Speaker 5: know where you're going.
- 51:53Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah.
- 51:56Speaker 5: All you know is you tell them what how much
- 51:59Speaker 5: budget you want to spend per person, and then it
- 52:02Speaker 5: gives you a questionnaire form.
- 52:03Speaker 2: You fill out.
- 52:04Speaker 5: Now, the only downside of that is I was kind
- 52:06Speaker 5: of looking at it and I was like, Okay, let's
- 52:08Speaker 5: try this out.
- 52:09Speaker 2: But then it got to the point.
- 52:09Speaker 5: Where it was asking me my name, my address, my
- 52:11Speaker 5: phone number, and all these questions, and it never once
- 52:15Speaker 5: mentioned anything possible about where I was going to go.
- 52:18Speaker 5: So I was a little leery about figuring out if
- 52:20Speaker 5: I want to give them all this information before I
- 52:22Speaker 5: know what's going to happen.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Well, you know, maybe it it could do a profile
- 52:24Speaker 1: based on sports horses.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Yes, it does all of that, absolutely absolutely.
- 52:29Speaker 5: It asks you all those questions and then cool it
- 52:31Speaker 5: will plan you a three day website or a three
- 52:34Speaker 5: day get away from the website, and then you just
- 52:36Speaker 5: pay for it and you can do a budget of
- 52:38Speaker 5: four hundred and fifty, five hundred and fifty all the
- 52:40Speaker 5: way up to two thousand dollars per person, and it
- 52:42Speaker 5: will design a three day getaway for you, whether it
- 52:46Speaker 5: be road trips, cars, buses, planes, whatever.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Packupgo dot com. Great stuff. We'll be back with more
