- 0:17intentional about your thinking, feel better every day, and
- 0:20create anything you want in life.
- 0:22And come join us inside The Shift of Frontline Static 138,
- 0:30finding joy in the challenge. I am talking with you on the
- 0:35very last day of the year. It is December 31st.
- 0:39I know you guys will get this on the very first day of January
- 0:421st, 2026, but I've spent a lot of time reflecting in this last
- 0:47week and a half. I'm taking two weeks off of
- 0:50coaching. I've literally never done this
- 0:53before in the 15 years that I've been a nurse.
- 0:56I always worked holidays and continue to, you know, work as
- 1:01all of you guys are during this time.
- 1:04But I really wanted to create some space to be with my family
- 1:09and really just enjoy the magical experience of having my
- 1:15twins, who are seniors, home for the last Christmas before they
- 1:20move out. And so I've been, I want to
- 1:24share with you something that I have been personally working on
- 1:27and that I've spent a lot of time thinking about how and
- 1:33reflecting how I've taken myself through this process of finding
- 1:37joy in the challenge. In the last about I would say
- 1:41six months, maybe even a little bit more.
- 1:44I've been really coaching with my mindset, personal one-on-one
- 1:49coach about creating desire of what I really want.
- 1:53In the last six months, I've spent time really asking myself,
- 1:57what is it that I really desire? What is it that I want to
- 2:02contribute in this world? What is it that I want to say
- 2:07and impact in my coaching business?
- 2:10And for weeks I would come to my calls with her and I would just
- 2:15be like, I wish I had an answer. Like I don't know what it is.
- 2:19And she just allowed really for me to have the space to, instead
- 2:25of making a quick decision on it, just really allow myself to
- 2:29super think and create space for what I really do truly desire to
- 2:40coach on inside my coaching business.
- 2:42Now running it for the last four years.
- 2:45I really wanted to take time to reassess where am I going in the
- 2:50next five years? And this is really just been
- 2:54because I've blasted through my goals.
- 2:57I created a five year goal for my coaching plan for my coaching
- 3:01business and I hit that this year, a year early.
- 3:06And so I think that this is just a reflection of where do I want
- 3:10to be in the next 5 years? Who do I want to impact?
- 3:14What is it that I want to teach? What is the voice and the
- 3:18lessons and the tools that I want to bring to you guys?
- 3:22And so the last six months of really asking myself that and
- 3:27pondering it and leaving it in uncertainty and unknown, I
- 3:31finally come to an answer. And I am not ready to completely
- 3:39share with you my new offer, but it is coming.
- 3:42And I do want to let you know I am continuing the Flight Prep
- 3:46Academy. That is something I deeply
- 3:48desire to do to help more nurses and medics get into this
- 3:52industry. I loved, loved, loved every part
- 3:55of being a flight nurse. It was the best job ever.
- 3:58And I want to help more people who want to create that goal for
- 4:02themselves get there in a shorter amount of time with more
- 4:06clarity, more ease, less overwhelm, and a community and
- 4:10support. So I'm going to take you through
- 4:14kind of my process of how I found joy in the challenge and
- 4:22how you can start to find joy in the challenge of the goals that
- 4:25you're creating for 2026. I spent 2 days ago mapping out
- 4:30my entire next year. And that's not something that
- 4:33I've typically done in my business, but I know where I'm
- 4:37going this next year with more clarity and ease than ever
- 4:40before. And so I spent probably maybe
- 4:44two or three hours really thinking about what are some of
- 4:49the webinars trainings that I'm going to bring you.
- 4:52I mapped it out for the next 12 months and really what that's
- 4:55going to look like. And so I want to kind of take
- 4:59you through as I have discovered after six months of pondering
- 5:03really what I desire, how I got to that and how I found joy in
- 5:07the challenge and in the goal. So I want to start out before I
- 5:12go take you through these steps for really just expressing my
- 5:16gratitude. I am so grateful for all of you
- 5:22guys. This was an idea that I
- 5:29pondered, put a lot of love into when I decided to leave nursing
- 5:35and flight nursing and go all in on my coaching business.
- 5:41And I knew what I wanted to create.
- 5:43I knew how I wanted to impact people, but I just had to
- 5:49believe that there were people that wanted to come along.
- 5:52There are people that wanted to join my communities and utilize
- 5:58me as their coach. And I just wanted to take a
- 6:01moment before getting started this week to express my
- 6:04gratitude to all of you for coming along with me in this
- 6:08journey, for entrusting me to be your coach.
- 6:13Even if you aren't working with me as a client, just listening
- 6:16to this episode, I hope like my my goal is that you guys feel
- 6:26better. I know the work that you do is
- 6:30hard. I've been there.
- 6:31I've been in the trenches with you, and my goal in when I found
- 6:36these coaching tools is that I can give you guys a sense of
- 6:40feeling better, of confidence, of willingness to chase after
- 6:45your big audacious goals and to not get rid of the fear, but to
- 6:52learn how to bring it with you. And so as I now have over 100
- 6:57people inside of the Flight Prep Academy, I've helped dozens of
- 7:01people get hired into flight now.
- 7:04I created a new offer for healthcare workers and 1st
- 7:08responders for general life coaching.
- 7:10I have a small group with 20 people in it.
- 7:12I've helped over 100 clients and people one-on-one.
- 7:17I just want to express gratitude for you going on this journey
- 7:20with me for entrusting me to be your coach.
- 7:23And I just want you to know I have so much more to give this
- 7:28year. And I just wanted to start this
- 7:30episode in complete just thankfulness and gratitude for
- 7:35being here with me. And I want you to know that I'm
- 7:40thinking about you guys often. I am thinking about how do I
- 7:44help you feel better quicker? How do I put everything into
- 7:49processes and steps as I'm going through them so that I can share
- 7:53them with you? I have expressed that the last
- 7:57two years have been a struggle for me and I've really had some
- 8:01really deep emotions that I've never ever felt before in my
- 8:05life to this extent. Sadness, anxiety, depression,
- 8:13shame. And I'm as I'm coming out of it,
- 8:16as I'm like really stepping into the next version of me.
- 8:20I want you guys to know I got you because I've felt these
- 8:24feelings, I've allowed them. And so I want you to know these
- 8:28podcast episodes are for you. And again, I want you to be
- 8:33thinking about me and you just having a conversation across the
- 8:36table. Maybe we got a drink together or
- 8:40we're just having lunch or dinner together.
- 8:44And I really hope that you find some of these general life
- 8:49coaching topics. And I'm going to be talking
- 8:50about flight topics too. I'm helpful for you, but I just
- 8:53want to express gratitude and thankfulness for you coming
- 8:57along with me. OK, today we're going to find,
- 9:00we're going to talk about finding joy in the challenge.
- 9:02I'm going to talk to you about the steps that I took myself to
- 9:06create some desire for this and how I got through it.
- 9:09So I'm going to take you through four steps.
- 9:11The first one is we have to create a desire for what we want
- 9:16or our goal. That means we have to give our
- 9:19self time to super think. I know I've talked about this on
- 9:22previous episodes and my business coach talks about this
- 9:27a lot. Just really giving yourself time
- 9:30to quiet the noise without your phone, without the TV, without
- 9:34your kids, just like in a quiet place to really super think.
- 9:39I like to go into nature. I like to go for a walk.
- 9:41Like those are things where I can really get clarity, feel
- 9:44alone, and really take some time to ask myself what is it that I
- 9:48desire? Not what my family wants for me,
- 9:51not what my kids or my husband or my parents.
- 9:58What do I want? What do I want now, what I want
- 10:01in the next 5 years? What are some goals that I want
- 10:04to create? What do I truly desire to do
- 10:06with my life to impact? Really take the time to ask
- 10:11yourself that without the pre notions of like what everybody
- 10:15else wants for you. I don't even know if that's a
- 10:17word, but I just came up with that right now.
- 10:21I don't think that if I was really honest with myself, I've
- 10:25spent a lot of time asking myself what I want.
- 10:29I really have just done sometimes a hard thing because
- 10:34I'm like, oh, that's what so and so wants for me or that's what
- 10:38is the next thing that life tells me I need to be doing.
- 10:42But this is really like asking yourself, what do I want now?
- 10:45What do I want in the next 5 years?
- 10:47What do I want to create in 10 years?
- 10:49What'll, what's the stamp that I want to leave and the legacy
- 10:52that I want to leave for my children in this world?
- 10:56What's the impact? And I really allowed myself to
- 11:01let that question remain open for the last six months until it
- 11:06really came to me. And then when it hit me, it just
- 11:09hit me like so hard. I knew what it was.
- 11:14And I really believe that you can't wait to feel it.
- 11:20You have to go out there and start to cultivate that desire,
- 11:24Cultivate and ask yourself those hard questions, tapping really
- 11:28into, if this isn't something that happens to me, what do I
- 11:33want to create? And you have to go out there and
- 11:36get it and ask yourself that. So I think it starts with that,
- 11:40creating the desire of what you want, super thinking and really
- 11:43listening, giving yourself time and space to find out what that
- 11:46is. OK #2 this is actually really
- 11:52difficult for me, but I have been really practicing this as
- 11:56I've been asking myself, what do I desire in the last six months?
- 11:59Number 2 is creating gratitude and feeling proud of yourself.
- 12:07This is hard for me. This is a challenge because if
- 12:10you're a goal setter like me, which you are, if you're
- 12:13listening to this podcast and you're a doer and you have
- 12:17always found that doing a bunch of things is what creates
- 12:20success for you, that feeling proud is hard.
- 12:25Realizing that it can be simple and slowing down and taking the
- 12:29actions that will actually move you forward instead of taking a
- 12:32bunch. That's hard.
- 12:34And so learning to stop, create gratitude and feel proud for
- 12:38where you have come, where you were a year ago, where you were
- 12:42two years ago, where you were 10 years ago, and how far you have
- 12:46come and what you have accomplished is hard to take
- 12:49time to do. But we have to do this because
- 12:51if we don't close the loop of feeling proud and close the loop
- 12:55of the accomplishments, then we just say going to the next thing
- 12:58and we chase the next thing and we chase the next opening hit.
- 13:02Feeling proud closes the loop for us.
- 13:05Having gratitude helps us really set into what do we desire next?
- 13:11And so I really took time in these last after I what really
- 13:17hit me, what I really want to do, I just took time to really
- 13:22just feel proud of where I've come, who's come with me,
- 13:28grateful for for all all of you guys and just really dig deep
- 13:36into what are you proud of? And I want to offer that
- 13:42sometimes in this process of goal setting, we can indulge in
- 13:52trying to feel like this is what happened to me in the last six
- 13:55months. Like really leading up to it is
- 13:57I was indulging and why don't feel desire.
- 14:00I have to feel desire before I start taking action.
- 14:03And I just had to keep telling myself, I'm going to keep taking
- 14:06action until I figure out the desire.
- 14:09So you don't want to wait to feel it before you start taking
- 14:13action. You want to become the person
- 14:15who just keeps taking the action.
- 14:17And then with the action, you'll gain the momentum.
- 14:19And in the momentum, you'll find the desire.
- 14:21So I want to to also offer you that.
- 14:25I want to ask you the questions. What decisions am I keeping
- 14:28myself from making because I'm indulging to try to feel desire
- 14:32or feel motivated? What decisions am I keeping
- 14:36myself from making because I keep beating myself up?
- 14:40What decisions am I keeping myself from making because I
- 14:43have fear of what others will think of me or that I will fail?
- 14:48These are the three things that I struggle with the most.
- 14:51Dropping into gratitude, beating myself up and fear of what other
- 14:56people will think of me and seeing them, seeing, seeing,
- 15:00watching myself fail in front of them.
- 15:03And I think these are common things that we all face.
- 15:05But what I have really, really taught myself to do in this
- 15:09process, in challenging myself is taking action.
- 15:15Even though I have those thoughts.
- 15:17And you do not want to indulge in beating yourself up, having
- 15:20fear or waiting to feel desire motivated.
- 15:23Do you want to start taking the action anyway?
- 15:25So that's number two. Feel gratitude, feel proud of
- 15:29yourself. That will help you take the
- 15:31action #3 We want to create a plan.
- 15:36We want to tell her. We want to stop telling
- 15:38ourselves, I don't know. And we want to start telling
- 15:41ourselves, I have a plan. I hope that you have a plan for
- 15:442026. I hope that you can.
- 15:49This is a thing we can't prevent ourselves from saying, I don't
- 15:51know. It is natural for our brain to
- 15:53tell us that. But what if you're coaching with
- 15:55me in any of my programs? I just don't allow that answer.
- 15:58I say, well, if you didn't know, then what if you didn't know?
- 16:00What would be the first step? What's the first step that
- 16:02you're going to take? So we have to start telling
- 16:05ourselves I have a plan versus I don't know.
- 16:09I thought I want to offer you that.
- 16:10We came up in the shift coaching group for healthcare workers and
- 16:141st responders. And the last one that we had was
- 16:17let's try it. And I have a plan and that
- 16:21thought will propel you forward. We just don't want to take time
- 16:25to indulge. And I don't know anymore.
- 16:27An example that I gave them and I wanted to give you guys is
- 16:30this is like one of my husband's favorite movies is Ford versus
- 16:33Ferrari. And there's a part of it that I
- 16:36just will never forget. He is talking to his son about
- 16:40going around the track, and he's talking to his son about doing
- 16:44this race that's 24 hours long. I can't remember the name of it,
- 16:48but his son says, Dad, how do you plan ahead when you're going
- 16:54that fast for all the laps that you have to complete and do in
- 16:5924 hours? And he says that when he gets in
- 17:03the car and when he starts moving and going really, really
- 17:06fast, that for normal people, things move faster.
- 17:12And it's like binoculars and a lens.
- 17:15Like this is what I'm paraphrasing in my head.
- 17:18But what I'm thinking as he's telling his son this is that
- 17:22it's like binoculars and most people, as they're going faster,
- 17:27things speed up and they're narrowing in on the track.
- 17:31But he says for him that when he has a long race or the faster he
- 17:38goes, time actually slows down for him.
- 17:40He actually scrolls out with those binoculars and sees the
- 17:45bigger picture. He sees the whole race from
- 17:48start to finish in that moment. He sees how many times he's
- 17:51glided through the track and how he's accomplished it and how he
- 17:54has done it. And this is similar.
- 17:56I remember that for one reason is this is similar to what
- 18:00happened to me when I would land at sinkholes and there was mass
- 18:05chaos. And maybe there were multiple
- 18:06bodies and multiple crashes and multiple things going on.
- 18:10And there was fights between family going on here.
- 18:12And then you had police here, and then you had fire
- 18:14extricating someone. And for me, the more chaotic a
- 18:18scene, the slower I slowed down in my mind.
- 18:23I saw the bigger picture. I focused in on what patient I
- 18:26was going to take in that very moment and from start to finish
- 18:30of my entire call, grabbing that patient and taking them to the
- 18:34level 1 trauma center. And I did that all in like
- 18:38seconds. And the reason why I was able to
- 18:43do this is because I always told myself I don't need to know the
- 18:46how. I just need to have a plan.
- 18:49And there is a part of me still that had a lot of fear.
- 18:52And there is a part of me that was like, I don't know.
- 18:54But I had to not indulge in spending time with that part.
- 18:58I had to keep telling myself, this is it.
- 19:01This is the plan. We're going to follow through
- 19:04and trust myself that I could do that.
- 19:06So when we have that thought, I have a plan.
- 19:10The actions will lead us down that way.
- 19:13We'll take the first one and then we'll know what to do for
- 19:16the second one, and so on and so forth.
- 19:18When we continue with the thought, I don't know, you
- 19:21continue to spin, begin confusion, be stuck being
- 19:26overwhelmed. And I know you guys know this
- 19:28feeling because the more you tell yourself you don't know,
- 19:30the more you don't know. And so I think it's really
- 19:33important to create a plan and then have a thought that's going
- 19:36to propel you forward in that plan, which is like, I have a
- 19:38plan, let's try it. I have a plan, let's move
- 19:41forward with it. And so I just want to offer you
- 19:45guys that thought. I also am a big believer in
- 19:49exposing yourself to your worst fear.
- 19:51So often times clients come to me and they're like, I'm just
- 19:53afraid that my my patients going to code and I'm like, OK, let's
- 19:56do it. Let's walk ourselves through it.
- 19:58You got your critical patient high acuity they code.
- 20:00Now what do you do? And we take them through
- 20:03verbally every action that they're going to take.
- 20:06This is how I help people get ready for case scenarios and
- 20:09verbal case scenarios for flight companies.
- 20:10Or they're testing once they're already a flight nurse or flight
- 20:12medic. Let's go to your worst case
- 20:14scenario. Take me through what's going to
- 20:16happen. Get to that code, bring it, do
- 20:19it. And the only reason why I've
- 20:22allowed myself to do that is because even though I've had
- 20:25fear about it, I take myself to the worst case scenario.
- 20:27I tell myself I have a plan and I walk myself through it.
- 20:31So that's number three is creating a plan and telling
- 20:34yourself you have one. The most important part is when
- 20:38your brain is going to push up against, I don't know, and then
- 20:40it has a lot of fear. You have to tell yourself that I
- 20:44have a plan and let's, let's try it.
- 20:46Let's do it. OK, this is the last one.
- 20:49And this kind of wraps up what I want to talk to you guys about
- 20:51on this podcast #4 finding joy in the challenge.
- 20:56You guys, you got to find some joy in challenging yourself and
- 21:02getting to the next level and leveling up and doing something
- 21:06that no one's done before. If flight was so easy, everybody
- 21:10would do it at three years. But it's not.
- 21:14It's for the people who find the joy in the challenge.
- 21:18Because here's the thing, once you get hired into flight, it's
- 21:20not like, oh, OK, successful. No, it's testing after testing
- 21:24after testing and continuing to challenge yourself.
- 21:28You're asked to be superhuman. You're asked to have the
- 21:32autonomy and make quick decisions and think critically,
- 21:35not just for your team, but for your patient.
- 21:38And that's why it matters. You have to find joy in the
- 21:41challenges. You have to find joy in the
- 21:43goals. One thing that I think about a
- 21:45lot, I love to go on hikes. I love to be in nature and there
- 21:48was this one hike that I did with my family.
- 21:51And I know I've talked about this on my podcast before, but
- 21:53this is what I'm thinking about and finding the joy in the
- 21:55challenge where my husband's like, this is just going to take
- 21:58a half a day to get to that peak.
- 21:59And I said it's not. And I only brought snacks.
- 22:02I didn't bring enough things. You know, it took us over
- 22:0612/13/14 hours to get to the top, but I had to find joy in
- 22:12getting there. And I remember every step of the
- 22:15way thinking, Oh my gosh, like this is fun.
- 22:17OK, what's on the other switch back of this?
- 22:19What happens when we go up there?
- 22:21And just really telling myself like, OK, this is so fun to be
- 22:26with my family, to be with my kids, to challenge myself.
- 22:29You have to be able to say I'm the person who loves this.
- 22:36I'm the person who loves every minute of challenging myself to
- 22:42to grow into the next version of me.
- 22:45Two thoughts that have really helped me in challenging
- 22:48situations and when I set big goal for goals for myself to
- 22:51find the joy in. It is this is my sequence of
- 22:54events that led me to success. It doesn't mean that I got
- 22:59everything right the first time, the second time, the third time,
- 23:01the 4th time, the fifth time. Guys, it took me 8 times to pass
- 23:03my CFRN, 3 times to pass my CCRN.
- 23:08That thought is this is my sequence of events that leads me
- 23:12to its success. The seven times I had to not
- 23:15pass it led me to the 8th time of passing it.
- 23:17I had to keep being willing to evaluate and get back up and do
- 23:20it again. And so that thought is really
- 23:23powerful for me. This is my sequence of events
- 23:26that leads me to to success. Pass or fail, whatever it is,
- 23:29I'm going to get back up. The other thought that I have is
