- 0:20SPEAKER_01: Actually, hi.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Hi.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: We'll change that just to say hello.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: What's going on today?
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, I just got back from the chiropractor.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Nice.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: All adjusted and stuff.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:34SPEAKER_01: I was not when I got there, but I am now, maybe?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: Terrifies me.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: The chiropractor terrifies me.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: I was like, do she didn't do it as she was holistic, that's the word, I think.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: She was, yeah.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So if you're listening, you're very holistic.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Holistic.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: I'm a little I'm a little holistic.
- 0:52unknown: Yeah.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Wait, holistic.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: We could have used that.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: We're coming up with names for today's episode.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: And uh we had our first requests for topics, so um back to school.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to school.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: Back to school stuff.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: These kids are gross and they're little petri dishes of disease.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: So we're gonna try to cover some back to school.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Like we're going into the fall, which is common times for everyone to do pinworms, because I talked to a friend today and she had no idea what pinworms were, and I was fascinated that she never heard of pinworms.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: But I don't really know a whole lot.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: I learned so much from this luck.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, boy.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: So sticking with our, I don't know, trying to make titles that are for our have the same letter.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: For now.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: For now.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Um Laura suggested pinroot worms.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Pinworms.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: Pinworms?
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Pinworms.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Pinworms.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Pinworms.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Um I suggested that I would do pumpkin.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Like just kind of go over some stuff to do with pumpkin because it's that time of year.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: Swellow! And oh my god, I love it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: I love cold.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: It's 13 degrees outside today.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was at the ball field today and it was it was chilly.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Laura's freezing and I am so happy.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Chilly.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Love me a cold.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Love me a cold day.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Um before we get into that though, what's going on?
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: What happened this week?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Let's do a recap.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Do we have any corrections to make from last week?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Oh, probably.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Oh, you know what?
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: I do have one.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: I've said baseball and I got blasted in my group.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: We never played baseball.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: We've always played softball.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: We were the softball.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So it was softball.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: My growing up softball.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Now I play slow pitch in a women's league, but never baseball.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Never baseball, no one.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Never once have I thrown a baseball.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: No, they're too small.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Softballs are much more.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: We're big gals.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: We like the big balls.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: We like a big ball.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: There's our next t-shirt.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Um so okay, Laura and I went to hot yoga last week.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: What it's Worm Yin Yoga.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, it's warm.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: When I think hot yoga, I think like more athletic.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Worum yin is more like a yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Oh she really sold it to me too because she was like, you literally can lay there and have a nap the whole time.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I was like, I am in.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: I'm there.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: That's my physical.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Actually, it was it was nice.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: It was very, it was very calming.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: I liked it.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: And then the next day I had therapy and I told my therapist about it.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: She was like, Yeah, because she was talking to me about the polyvagal theory.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Do you know what I mean at all when I'm talking about that?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Just because my anxiety is is all over the place recently, and she was just taught.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: I didn't really look into it, I'm not gonna lie, but I do have some reading to do on the polyvagal theory, but there's different different parts of it.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: But anyway, she said yin yin yoga, and she even said she must have done it before because she was she does yoga there.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so she was like, When you're when your legs are up on the wall, she's like your body, it like resets your vagus nerve.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, because you would never do that in nature if you were in like if a bear was chasing you or something, you would never just lay down and put your feet up on a tree.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: So we did that pose last, and then at the end she told us to pick our own pose.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: I just kept in that one because I loved it so much.
- 3:59SPEAKER_01: I couldn't get close enough to the wall though.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: I was like shimmy, like I probably could have, but I just like literally physically couldn't get closer.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Like I don't think it was a stretch thing.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know if it that matters though.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: I think as long as your feet are elevated.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: And that's what she said too was that as long as you were you were doing it, it puts your brain in a state that oh my god, I really hope she doesn't listen to this because I'm probably fucking it up.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: But but yeah, basically your brain is like we can't possibly be in danger, so calm your tits because your feet are up in the air.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, your tits up, so you should be fine.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Anyways.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I like that.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: I'm yeah, so maybe we'll be maybe we'll do that more because I need more of that in my life, I guess.
- 4:35SPEAKER_01: More yin.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: More yin.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: More more mean.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: You said baseball last week.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Sorry, softball.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: You said softball was over, and then you said you were at the softball field today, you banged the big liar.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: Well, softball games are over.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Now it's tryouts.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Tryouts and trainings.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Jesus Christ, it never ends.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: It doesn't, but I love it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Oh well, anyway.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: I love it, whatever.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I don't love?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: What's up?
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: I did love mowing the grass until two days ago.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Two days past.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Let me set the scene by saying, I am a smart human.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I am a smart human being.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: So, okay, we live in a compound, we know this.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: We kind of I don't have a lawnmower.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: I have a push one, but my lawn's huge.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: So I use dad's ride on mower, which is always parked between our lawns.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: That's the one you used, or did you use Well, this is where it starts.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Jesus Christ.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: So I went out and realized I'm I'm I'm smart, but I do recognize that sometimes I'm really down.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: And when I went out to mow the lawn, I was like, yeah, dad likes a nice two, whatever two means, two inch?
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, two, two point five, three if it's really high, because he doesn't like anyways.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Did I think it needed to be done?
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Not necessarily, but dad likes a nice fresh cut lawn.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So anyway, I went out, I opened the two garage doors.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: We have a duplex thing, so we have a two-bay garage.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Bobby's 50-inch cut zero turn cub cadet.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: I was like, Yeah, that's this, that's the D for D right there.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, definitely.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: That's gonna definitely D for D.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: D D.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: And then my dad's is like a 42-inch cut.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: A normal lawn.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So I was like, fuck this, I'm going on the big one.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: So I've driven it before.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Can you turn it on?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Because I can't.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: This is where this is where things get.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna stop talking.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Um, so I went in and then I realized really quickly that the only time I've ever used it was when Bobby started it for me and I jumped on and he like went out to whippersnip.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So I like took over from him.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: So I got on it.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: I was like, fuck, how hard can it be?
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: It's hard.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, it's hard.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So I wasn't gonna call him though, because I'm like, nope.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So I was what a normal human would do watching a YouTube video.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I did the same thing.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: I did the same thing.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: I called Bob the other day when I was in my backyard.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Nope.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Still couldn't get it.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: So I was like, you know what?
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Fuck this.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: I was getting up, I was getting awfully upset about it.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: So I went over and started dad's plug and play, turn on the key, whatever, go do your business.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I was mowing the front yard, the fucking belt slipped off the tractor.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: So I was like, all right, here we are again, cub cadet.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, turn.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: So I broke down, I called Bob, he walked me through how to start it, and I was like, okay, yeah, I got it.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Didn't have it.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: No, no, hung up, didn't have it.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: So I had to call it back.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And I was like, I'm not dumb.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Nothing humbles you more than calling your husband back.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: And he's in the middle of the woods trying to replay in his mind how to start this lawnmower because it's not the process to start this lawnmower.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: You pull up the choke, you put it on turtle, you put the parking brake on, you turn the key, then you turn it back so you can roll in reverse, press this little triangle button, turn the choke down, put it on rabbit.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: I'm like, basically, give it three drops of the blood of your firstborn child, three taps and two blows, and then you're on your way.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Fuck.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I did get it going after three phone calls and some curse words, but the grass was mowed.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And I don't think I'll ever forget it because but YouTube was not healthy.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: I will do it.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Well, I looked up the same thing.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I was so my my lawn's huge, but I was like in the middle of the back, down where all the mushrooms are.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: That's where I like stalled it or something.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Or I turned it off because it ran out of gas.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: That's what it was.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: I filled it up with gas and I was like, fuck, same thing.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: I think either Bob or Dad had had it on, and I jumped on.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: So I had to start it again.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: So my first thing too was YouTube, because there's no fucking way I'm calling dad.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: And then I called fucking dad.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: And then he was like, Wall.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: Anyways, he explained it.
- 8:29SPEAKER_01: Same thing.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: I hung up, I was like, Yep, got it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Don't cut it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Don't cut it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Called Bob.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: And he was like, Well, we're not too far away, like just leave it or whatever.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: So I'm not just gonna sit here.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: So I tried it a couple more times.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I was like, I didn't.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: Well, and we're recording this early because I go for surgery on Tuesday.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Surgery on Tuesday.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: Um, get my jaw fixed, hopefully, for the first time in three years.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I'm a little bit nervous about it, but oh well.
- 8:54unknown: Yeah.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: If we're back for episode five, you'll know that that last one, the three episode three when we laughed so much.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: I suffered for like three days after that.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: It was terrible.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: She just like looked like a yield smaller.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: TMJ and disc displacement, all the stuff going on in my face.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Anyway, but my face is beautiful, but it's fucked.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: Beautiful but fucked.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: That's all this week.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: That's all.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: We are still sitting with the foam.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Um, I think this is the best place that we found.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: We're really crunched in here, but it's cozy.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: We like each other, so it's fine.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: We may have to on our family compound that we're building, may have to make a pod room.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: Pod broom.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Realize it has to be very, very small, well insulated.
- 9:37unknown: Yeah.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Dad can figure it out.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Dad'll probably already have it done.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: He's we've said it twice now, so he probably has it all.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: It's fun though.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: It's like an hour quality time with my little sister.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: It's nice.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: And we and we both learn stuff.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: I've on i've like sineusitis.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I actually talked to one of my diabetic patients the other day about sinusitis.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, yeah, it's usually viral.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: It's like just 98% of the time.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: 98% of the time.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: It's it's very over for scrolls.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Don't uh don't quote my stats because this is very broad, general information that we're giving.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: No, I didn't use numbers, but I did give good good information.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: See.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: Almost plugged the podcast, but I was like, that's probably not ethical.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: The more you know.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: The more you know.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: So I'm going first this week.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: You're going first, yeah.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: I'm going first.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: So pumpkin and pinworms.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Let's go.
- 10:24unknown: Disgusting.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: So this kind of came up because we we have a pumpkin patch.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: Um, a buddy of mine uh usually grows pumpkins every year, and that's when where we get our pumpkins for our like decor and all that stuff for the fall.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: But they're not doing it this year.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: So we found that out luckily early enough that we put in a little pumpkin patch and and dad and Arlo have uh did like yeah, they they are have been tending to them.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Arlo doesn't really do a whole lot when it comes to tending to them, but um, but yeah.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, pumpkin itself.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: So the other day we were just sitting there and we got a call from did he call you to come over to get some um Yeah, we talked about it in the summer.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: He was asking if dad had any pumpkin leaves.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so pumpkin leaves.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: So um one of Amelia's friends, Laura's daughter Amelia's friends, um, her dad is originally from Zimbabwe.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: So he he was asking about pumpkin leaves, and I was like, he came over to the house, and we've we've met before, obviously.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: They're good friends and and everything.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: He came over and I jumped right up.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: I was like, what do you do with pumpkin leaves?
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Because I do, I use everything, and I have never in my life heard about this.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: But, anyways, so apparently there's a dish that you can make.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: It's called mubura.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Mubura.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Apologi apologies, Zimbabwe, as a whole.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: I love you, George.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I love you all.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry, George.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, it's it's like African green.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, he kind of went over what the recipe is for this uh mubura, and it was like onions, tomatoes, peanut butter.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: I was like, whoa, whoa.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Cream.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: There's cream and cream.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Anyways, I looked up some pictures.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: It did look good, and he said it's delicious.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I still I have yet to try it.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Actually, some of the leaves are kind of going green down there.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: It was down there yesterday, but anyway, so that's one thing that you can do with the pumpkin leaves, which I never knew was a was a thing.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: And of course they're green, so so it would be um it would be good for you.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: But the other thing was mum made because we um we have a different two different types of pumpkins down there.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: There's actual jack-o'-lanterns, so we can we can carve them and that kind of stuff.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: But we also planted, I forget what they're called, but they're smaller and they're for cooking, like cooking pumpkins or whatever.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: So mom made pumpkin puree the other day, and when she was done, she was like, Oh, it's so light.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Like it looks nothing like the canned stuff.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna make a pie and whatever.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: So I did some research on them.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Like, there's no way canned is better.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Like, there, I don't know, there's no way that like canned, because pumpkin puree is just pumpkin.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: It's there's nothing else in it unless you buy the pumpkin pie spice stuff, like the pumpkin pie filling or whatever.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay, it color's different, but whatever.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Anyways, I found a recipe for a for a pie that I'm hoping she's going to test before Thanksgiving because I want a bite of it.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: Um, using her pumpkin puree.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: And apparently it works just as well.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Everything that I looked up was like, if you use canned pumpkin, obviously it's always going to be the same.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Like it's always gonna be the consistency is always gonna be the same in the set and everything.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: But I really, after doing the research that I did after mom was saying that, oh, it's a little more runny and that kind of stuff.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, things that are processed are all the same because that's how that's what processed does.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: It makes everything um very standardized, very, very the same.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but this is just to note that you can use pumpkin to make puree.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: And we'll have to we'll have to do an update when mom makes that pie because I'm so excited.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: Well, Laura doesn't like pie.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: I'm saying pie, and she's looking at me like pie.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: Laura doesn't like pie any kind because she's weird.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Um the pastry's too flaky.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: The pastry is too divine.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: It's too divine for me.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, and like pumpkin seeds, obviously you can you can make pumpkin seeds, roast pumpkin seeds.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: We we use papitas a lot, which are a certain kind of pumpkin seeds.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: I we buy them, obviously.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: I don't think we have the right kinds of pumpkins for papas, but I use them in my um in my granola, and I think you use them in your granola.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Granola burrs.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so we use they're high in magnesium.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: I think magnesium is like the biggest Okay.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: It's like more magnesium in those than a magnesium supplement.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Where did I see that somewhere today?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Don't quote me.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Um they're high in magnesium.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Um, and I heard that from a healthcare provider one time too, because it was like eat more of those in walnuts or something if your magnesium's low.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Anyway, don't quote me.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Um, but the main thing that I like to do, so I am a Starbucks fan.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: We are both Starbucks fans.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Um, they know us there by name, and they, when we don't go for a couple days, they ask where we are.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: They are very worried about our well-being.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: I went to Ontario a couple months ago, and I came back and one of the guys was like, Where have you been?
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: They asked me where you've been.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where's Allie?
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they asked my, they know we're sisters and they asked where I was.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Anyways, um, but this time of year, I I'm not a pumpkin spice latte person, but I do like the pumpkin cold foam.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: I put the pumpkin, like I get the pumpkin cold foam on just my like iced Americano.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: That's my my go-to there.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: But I found a recipe, and it's not a healthy recipe.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Usually all the a lot of the stuff that I try to make, I try to make it like, I don't know, a little healthier.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: This was like a cup and a half of pumpkin puree, cup and a half of brown sugar.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: I was like, we're off to a good start, but it just tastes like pumpkin pie, which Laura wouldn't like, but it's fucking delicious.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: And all I do is I take uh roughly a tablespoon and I put that in some whipping cream and I whip it up with my frother, and it's basically the exact same thing.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: So what is it?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin brown sugar?
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so oh geez, pumpkin brown sugar.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: There's pumpkin pie spice, which is like your mix of cloves.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: I have some like actual pumpkin pie spice.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Uh there would be vanilla and water because you heat it up and you kind of whatever, but it makes like a huge amount, obviously.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: So I froze some in those like little little long um freezers.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Ice cube things.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Ice cube things, yeah.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Um so I have some forward's breaking stuff.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: Um anyway, so that's delicious.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: So I have like instant espresso and I I make I actually use the the Starbucks cup, so it makes me feel like I'm actually spending six dollars for this beverage that I'm not, which is nice.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: But anybody who cooks, anybody who bakes with pumpkin knows that if you open a can, you're making pumpkin everything because there's so much in a can.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: There's cans are really expensive now, too.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Everything's expensive, but anyway, so that's why I like to make big batches and then freeze them.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: But like muffins, loaves, mom made that.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Did you have some of that loaf?
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: It was so delicious.
- 16:48SPEAKER_01: Pumpkin loaf.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: Fuck, it was good.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it was one of those things I came in to her house like I do every 10 minutes during the day, and it was just sitting there, and I was like, oh yeah, that looks good.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And then I had it, and then I was like, no, that looks good.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: It's like her face changed.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: My old mirror just changed.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: It was so good.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: It was so good, anyways.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, there's so many, so many recipes, so many discard recipes too.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: It's sourdough discard recipes, so I can use up a lot of a lot of the shit that I have.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: And pumpkin is really good.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: It's really high in fiber and it's a lot of yeah, it makes poop.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Makes poop, yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: So there's I know um when Arla was a baby, a lot of the stuff was like, oh, just incorporate some like prunes and pumpkin and stuff.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: But also my dog that I used to have, Guinness, you could buy those little like they were like those pouches, like those applesauce pouches, but it was just pumpkin puree, like for dogs.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Which, yeah, anyways, that's kind of silly.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: But yeah, it's really good and really high in fiber and vitamin C and beta-carotene, which is really good for your eyes.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: My eyes are great.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: You should have had more when you were well, our nan always used to tell Laura.
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: Well, she used to tell all of us, but I don't really remember that.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, eat carrots, and I was the only one that fucking ate my carrots.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: And she's the only blind one.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I'm the only blind one.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so anyway.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So there's that.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: But anyways, I should have gone for the pumpkin.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Should have gone for the pumpkin.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: Anyways, I love and and that's the thing, like pumpkin, pumpkin spice stuff is not really, really pumpkin, but it makes me think of fall, and fall makes me happy.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: I went outside today and it was 13 degrees and windy, and I walked outside, I was so happy, and then Alex went out after me.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: He's like, Oh, you're gonna love it out here.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: I was like, I know, I was already out.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: Everyone else is freezing, and I oh, it just makes me so happy.
- 18:29SPEAKER_00: I do like a good oversized sweater though.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: The new, the new trend, the new fashion trend with the oversized sweaters and jog pants.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Like, I am fucking here for it.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I like an oversized.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: I do hate though when you buy something purposely oversized and then it fits like a goddamn glove.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: That's unfortunate in there.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Too many times.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: How how far do you have to size up?
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: How many X's do you need to be relevant to?
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm just thinking though, on our YouTube channel, Health and Homestead Pod, we'll have to get mom to make that.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take mom doing biscuits and stuff too, because she's convinced that you have to see how they're made.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: You do with the feel it and making pie crust too, because it's yeah.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah, maybe I'll get her to make that pumpkin loaf because I want it in my house.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: So if I make it make her make it, and then I'll have it.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so anyways, just a quick, quick little one for me this week.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: But so don't throw your pumpkin well, you know what?
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: After Jack Limit, they usually turn black.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't but the inerts that you scoop out, you can do some stuff with it.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so don't carve them, don't carve them and then let them sit out and then use them to feed your family.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Because I don't feel like that's a good idea, but but yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_01: Um but like I said, we have jack-o'-lanterns, which are the big ones.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: I don't know if they would make as good of puree, but I specifically got both because I knew me and mom were gonna use them for stuff.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: So you can freeze it.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: And you can freeze the puree.
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: And you just roast it.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the other part.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: You just roast it in the oven to get it soft, and that's how you make the puree.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: And I think, and I don't think she did it because it was a little bit watery, she said.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: But you can hang it in a um a cheesecloth to kind of get some of the liquid out of it.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Like roast it like a squash?
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Like cut it in half and roast it.
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, okay, okay.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Yibers, but she said she had to roast it a little bit longer than the recipe said, so you just kind of go till it's done.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: It's one of those things.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin tits.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin what?
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, it's my turn, pumpkin tits.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: All right, pumpkin tits, strap in.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: All right, sluts come along for the ride.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: Pumpkins are out.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Pinworms are in.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Pinworms are in.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: I was I honestly, I was amazed that she's never heard of pinworms.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: I was like, what do you mean?
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Like buttworms.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Bum worms, that's what they're called in my house.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: And she's like, I don't know what you mean.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: I don't want to know.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's I said you should because she's kids, and kids are gross, man.
- 20:51SPEAKER_01: Kids are petri dishes.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: So pinworms.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Um I'm gonna I'm not gonna make this gross, though.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna try.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Try having butt worms crawl out your butthole.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: It's but that's really what they are.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: It's our life.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: They're little white parasites that live in your intestines, and they crawl females crawl out of your intestines to your rectum, to your butthole at nighttime.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: Lays eggs in the pucker s pucker stream of your butthole.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: In the folds of the brown star.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Brown star of the chocolate starfish.
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Chocolate starfish.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: And then goes back in, the eggs kind of just hang around there.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: So where does where does this parasite come from?
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Fecal to oral.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: So kids scratch their butt, or you change their diaper and they have pinworms, and you don't wash your hands right away, and then you put your fingers in your mouth, or the eggs can live for two to three weeks out in the environment.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: So super contagious.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Um dewy thinking of that's like a cloud.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: But I mean, like it's not gonna make it gross.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: The number one symptom.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: There's not always symptoms of pinworms, but the number one thing is if your kids come in in the middle of the night and be like, oh, I'm so itchy, like my butt, and they're like always scratching at their butt.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: That's anal itching, is one of the most common side effects.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: So they're so they're always there.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: Sorry, you're they're not always there.
- 22:17unknown: Okay.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: But if you have them, they're they live in your intestine.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: They're parasite.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: So they're just like But do they like come from meat?
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: Hanging out.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Where do they come from originally?
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: Is it a chicken or an egg situation?
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: A parasite or the egg?
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Comes first.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: It's a it's just always been a worm.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: And then the more worms lay more eggs and don't ask me hard questions too.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: So sorry, so sorry.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Anyway, but yeah, uh sleeplessness, restlessness, the the females come out at nighttime.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: So it's usually only like anal itching at nighttime, but the worms can stay out.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: The eggs hatch in your in your butthole.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: In your butthole folds.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Um, super contagious.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: So if you do have pinworms or if you've confirmed, do you ever hear about how you can confirm a case of pinworms?
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Is it the dangling something outside your butt?
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: No, that's a tapeworm in your mouth.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: That's putting a piece of meat in your mouth.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: That's the other well, I was doing it all wrong.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I didn't know why it didn't work.
- 23:16SPEAKER_00: No.
- 23:17unknown: No.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Scratch that from the diagnostic criteria.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Um to eat see them.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Like if you go like a flashlight or something.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if you go into your kids' room like two or three hours after they go to bed, because it's I don't know if it's when your body temperature rises when you're sleeping, that's when the females come out and lay their eggs.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: But if you go in and like look at their butthole with a flashlight, I guess the light, I think the light might make them retreat.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: So you have to be really quick.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: And there's also the tape test.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: So if you go in there with like a piece of tape wrapped around your your hand like backwards, yep.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: And you go around their butt and you like do a couple sticky stickies, the worms will stick to the tape.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: We you can see them.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: Like when you go in with a flashlight, you're just like, oh, okay.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: It looks like little specks of toilet paper sometimes because they're like the size of a staple when they're full um, like just the just the flat part of the staple.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: So they're quite small.
- 24:12SPEAKER_01: So that's what the female looks like when she comes out.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: That's how big she is, or she's bigger?
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: That's what a like a folded.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: The eggs are tiny.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: You'd never see an egg.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: The eggs are super tiny, which is why if they get under your fingernails or if they get on your hands, you're not washing very good, then they're gonna go in your mouth eventually when you're eating, or and for kids, all the surfaces that they touch with their gross butt-scratching hands, so toys and like surfaces.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but the only way to get rid of them, pinworms, is the there's over-the-counter treatment that's I know that they have some problem with shortages, but there's um vermox.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: So there's a it's called mebendazole, it's an antiparasitic medication.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: And if somebody has a confirmed case of pinworms, you should treat everyone in the house.
- 25:01unknown: Okay.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: And it's like a pill?
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: It's pill.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: It's a pill.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the over-the-counter stuff you should be able to get it in a liquid, but I don't know if that's I don't think that's been available for a while.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: But um yeah, you treat everybody in the house because it's super contagious.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Bathroom, like using the bathroom behind people with them and like the doorknobs and the like the little flusher thing before they wash their hands.
- 25:24SPEAKER_00: Even if you wash your hands really good, it's still easy to get.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: But can animals get it too?
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Can it go to your animals?
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: No, you can't.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: To prevent them, wash your hands 20 seconds.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Happy birthday, or get low by little John, if you're like me.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: 369 scrub to your hands.
- 25:43SPEAKER_00: You gotta make it fine.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: No one wants to sing happy birthday when they're doing their hands.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Sing get low by little John.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Except when you're Mia's next week.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: Um, if you do have pinworms, if you have a child that's confirmed pinworms, you want to do hot wash, hot dry, all their clothes, all their bedding.
- 25:59unknown: Oh, yeah.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Anything that they would have been like in contact with at nighttime specifically, but all the time.
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: Change their underwear in the morning because it's some kids just like they get a shower at nighttime, they put undies on, they go to bed, then they get up and get ready for school.
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: If you have pinworms, you should change your underwear in the morning because through the nighttime.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:19SPEAKER_00: Keep nails short, don't chew them.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, just basic hygiene, but a hot wash, hot drive, everything, probably every couple days.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: And when you do treat um, the treatment for pinworms is a single dose for everybody.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Of ivermectin, right?
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: No.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: That's for the cancer.
- 26:39unknown: That's right.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: That treats cancer.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: It does treat scabies, though.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: There you go.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: Good to note.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Um in goats.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Cheap.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Uh well now.
- 26:49SPEAKER_00: I lost my train of thought.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: So sorry.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, treatment.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: So you treat once, it's a single dose, and then in 10 days you treat again because that's going to get all the eggs that have hatched since that initial treatment.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: So that's pinworms.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Pinworms, you need to be treated.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: It's very common in kids.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: So if your kid comes in the middle of the night and they're not sleeping and they're like really fatigued and they're like, oh, my butt's itchy.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, their butt could just be itchy, but it might be pinworms.
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: So don't let them come in your bed.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Well, you're gonna have to.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: You can't refuse a kid in your bed.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: Um, what time are we at?
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Do I have time for hand, foot, and mouth real quick?
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: You tell me?
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hand, foot, and mouth is a really because you're only supposed to have it once, aren't you?
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: No.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: It's a virus.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: It's not one that you can get immune to.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Not that I I don't think.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: No.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: Well, because I said that Erlov had it twice to somebody, and they're like, how did he how did he get it twice?
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: I said, I don't know, but it was miserable both times.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: No, I don't, I don't think it's one you can get immune to.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 27:58SPEAKER_00: Healthcare professionals fact check me on that, but that'll be in our correction segment next time.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Well, he's he's had it twice, so yeah.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: Hand, foot, and mouth is not to be confused with hoof and mouth, which is only in livestock, even though you think your kids are pigs or not.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: They can't get hoof and mouth.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, but hand, foot, and mouth is a virus caused by the cocksacky virus.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Cococky.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, it's miserable.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: It's you, I know, it's not when you're in it, when you're in a thick of hand, foot and mouth, it's it sucks.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: Like their little tiny mouths are all full of ulcers.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Like sometimes it's down their throat, sometimes they have blisters on their hands and their feet.
- 28:33SPEAKER_00: I remember when Amelia had it, it was like a rash right up her butt.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: Like at the top of her leg.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: It was so bad.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: She couldn't even wear, she couldn't wear pants.
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: It lasts for about seven to ten days.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: It's self-limiting, which means your body fights it off itself, but to treat the symptoms of it, there's no cure for it.
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: It's just to treat fever, if fever comes with it, and then you treat like pain.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: So yeah, and thrust Arlo got thrushed really bad.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: And his uh yeah, because he couldn't eat.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: I ended up taking him to the emergency room because he would not eat or drink anything, because even water hurt his little mouth, and it was terrible.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: It was so yeah, it was super bad, but super common, super contagious as well.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: So for kids, um under five is most common, but it's because they share everything, like it's transmitted through like if you cough or you sneeze.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: But yeah, kids are gross.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: Drooling, like kids that drool on an object.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fluid and the blisters are are contagious, and poop.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: You can spread hand, foot, and mouth by poop, which I didn't know.
- 29:33SPEAKER_01: Okay, I didn't know that either.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: But when I when I think of that, like okay, poop, obviously, but like changing kids' diapers and like wiping them, and you know, it you can you can get it transmitted that way too.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Generally with that one, at first signs of a viral illness always is like fever or sore throat.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: And then they get these ulcers, but sometimes if they're little tiny babies, they can't explain those symptoms.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: So if they're not eating, if they're refusing like even liquids, if they're drooling a lot, if they're not sleeping, if they're just really fussy, it I mean, it could be something's going on in their mouth.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: But with kids too, and babies specifically, you want to be really careful with dehydration.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Because if they're not diapers, yeah.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: If they're not drinking, you can go a long time without eating, but if they're not drinking, like they get dehydrated very, very quickly, can which can be quite serious.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Popsicles help to numb them out.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: And pedialite, it's it's gross, like it tastes like salt.
- 30:31SPEAKER_00: So it some popsicles are both.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if they freeze them, yeah.
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: But yeah, whatever you can go to get into them for liquids.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's so uncomfortable.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: So uncomfortable.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Poor little things.
- 30:43SPEAKER_01: I had it too.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: He gave it to me.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: It was fucking terrible.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: But to prevent hand washing again, two, three, six, nine.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Damn, she's fine.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: So get long.
- 30:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: No, no.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Um, diaper changes, just be careful.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Like make sure you're washing your hands after diaper changes and stuff.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Disinfect surfaces, decrease cloak's contact.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: So they usually won't let them back in daycare until they're like fever-free for X many days.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: But with any viral illness, if you suspect that you can sometimes they don't have blisters on their hands and feet.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's just a couple mouth ulcers that they get.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: But if you notice the kid had a fever like for three days or longer, if they have over 10 days of symptoms, if they're dehydrated.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: So if they're getting, you know, if they're really lethalgic or really tired or, you know, not peeing regularly.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: You know your kid.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: Like if they're not doing well, you take them in.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but generally, hand fun mouth is viral.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: It'll go away on its own.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: It's just a matter of toughness it out.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: And it's it's miserable when they can't sleep for a couple days.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: Everyone's miserable.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: When they're but that's two of the more common back-to-school kids are gross type infection.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: Many more in this series because kids are gross.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: But they were they were requested.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: So just like send us an email or something of what you want to hear about.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: I know I got uh my girlfriends wanted to do hormones.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: So like perimenopause and hormones, so that's that's gonna be coming.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: It's everybody that we know in both of our age categories because yeah.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: You wake up in a pool of sweat at nighttime.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: That's fun.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I always have sweaty.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Sweaty body.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: Sweaty.
- 32:28SPEAKER_01: I'm just warm all the time.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Um, no, that'll be a really good one because everybody, everybody's in perimetopause, and then it just makes you rage against the machine.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: Rage against everything.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Anyway, it's about 30 minutes, so I think we're that'll be good.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: So we will yeah, so we're yeah, we're we're doing this one a little bit early just because Laura has to have some surgery.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: But we're gonna drop on Thursdays.

- 33:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she's in the into the guitar.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: So by episode five.

- 33:31SPEAKER_01: So a lot of people don't know I play guitar, actually.
- 33:34SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: That was a fun fact.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: When you sent me the thing, I was like, what?
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:37SPEAKER_01: And I forgot.
