- 0:22SPEAKER_00: We've been working our way through a series on making money as a writer.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: And on today's episode, we're talking about courses, which is one of the most natural ways for you to offer value to your audience and also increase your income.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Now, as a former college professor, courses are honestly one of the things that comes most naturally to me.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: When you spend 17 years thinking about curriculum, lesson plans, and assessment day in and day out, it kind of becomes second nature.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: But chances are pretty high that you are not necessarily a teacher by trade, meaning you who are listening.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: And that's perfectly okay because you just need to know that you can put together a great course.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: And one of the keys to putting together a great course is to figure out the specific objectives you want that learner to achieve by the end of the course and then work backwards from there to give them the information, experiences, and learning activities to take them there.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: But it's not just about the information in a course, it's also about the marketing of a course.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Because if you don't have marketing for your course, you probably won't have sales.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And marketing is a giant area that I don't have time to get into right now.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And to be honest, it's not really my area of expertise, but suffice it to say that if you're going to be successful with your courses or anything business related for that matter, you've got to get comfortable with marketing and learning how to do it more effectively.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Now, from a business standpoint, courses are a fantastic addition to your streams of income.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: Readers and learners value courses at a much higher level than books.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: And you can take the same material that you've used for a book, translate it into a course, and charge more for it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And if you enjoy teaching and putting together material in a way that helps other people experience transformation, courses are a great way for you to add value to others and also increase your income at the same time.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: And by the way, if you're interested in learning how to build and market online courses, I highly recommend that you connect with my friend Lucas Marino.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: He's an expert in these areas and he's developed some courses and also a new book to help you.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at merinotraining.com.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So here's my question for you.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Do you enjoy teaching?
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And if so, have you ever considered developing online courses in your areas of expertise?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Something for you to think about for sure.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Hey, before I let you go, I want to give a big thanks to today's sponsor, The Word Wizard.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Now, as you know, we talk a lot about books here on this podcast, and something that I see sometimes is that people have written a great book, a book that's very personal to them and that tells a story or teaches something important.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: And they don't know what to do next with that book.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: I see it all the time.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: People are like, hey, I've got this idea for a book, or I've written this book, what do I do next?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And the very next step for you is to get in touch with a great editor.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: That's why my friend Karen Hunsinger, also known as the Word Wizard, is the perfect partner to help you craft the highest quality book possible.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And the reason is because a great editor doesn't just correct grammar and spelling, they also correct wordiness, shifts in tone and voice, overuse of particular words, and they also enhance transitions, clarity, and accuracy.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: I've worked with Karen a lot of times, and I can promise you she is your secret weapon for crafting an amazing book through editing.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: So make sure and visit Karen Hunsanger.com for a free sample edit.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: There will be a link in the show notes, but let me say that again.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: It's Karen Hunsanger.com to grab your free sample edit.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Once you connect with Karen, I think you're really going to enjoy working with her, and she will take your book absolutely to the next level.

- 3:55SPEAKER_00: As always, thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
