- 0:00Speaker 1: The force will be with you always.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to the Nerd Party.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Hi, this is Nick and Ostasu, story editor on Star Wars,
- 0:10Speaker 1: the Clone Wars and Star Wars bad Batch, and you
- 0:14Speaker 1: are listening to Aggressive Negotiations.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Welcome back to Aggressive Negotiations, the Star Wars podcast on
- 0:27Speaker 3: the Nerd Party network that delves a little deeper, a
- 0:31Speaker 3: little longer than other Star Wars podcasts that you will
- 0:34Speaker 3: come across. You have our word on it, or if
- 0:38Speaker 3: this is your first time joining us, welcome, We're glad
- 0:40Speaker 3: you're here. I'm Jedi Master John Mills and with me
- 0:44Speaker 3: on this journey of many. I think we're on episode
- 0:48Speaker 3: four twenty right now, So anybody have a light crazy
- 0:51Speaker 3: r right? So I wonder if four to twenty means
- 0:54Speaker 3: the same thing in Star Wars. No idea, Jedi Master
- 0:57Speaker 3: Matthew Rushing, Hey Matt you ready to get a little
- 1:00Speaker 3: weird with it this week?
- 1:03Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I guess, as the kids would say,
- 1:06Speaker 2: six seven, Uh so.
- 1:07Speaker 3: We'll see oh dear, no, no, not.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Age well so, uh but no, I'm so good.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Guys.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Look behind the scenes before we started recording on the
- 1:19Speaker 2: other side of the galaxy. H John Mills and I
- 1:22Speaker 2: were discussing the fact that it is crazy that we
- 1:25Speaker 2: are on episode for twenty. That's what this episode is.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And even though we stopped numbering episodes, uh, you know,
- 1:32Speaker 2: we keep tracks so we have an idea of where
- 1:35Speaker 2: we are. And man, and I asked I to say, like,
- 1:38Speaker 2: I've this this show just has me so jazzed still
- 1:42Speaker 2: because I feel like, you know, the last few weeks,
- 1:45Speaker 2: especially the last two weeks prior to this, you know,
- 1:48Speaker 2: we've just had some bangers of episodes and and like,
- 1:52Speaker 2: you know, most of our episodes I think are bangers,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but like I mean, like these were top tier bangers. Yeah,
- 1:58Speaker 2: And so I was just I'm loving the opportunity to
- 2:02Speaker 2: gather together with my good friend here, especially the holiday season,
- 2:07Speaker 2: sit back and talk some Star Wars and and you know, John,
- 2:12Speaker 2: speaking of holidays, you know, it's as everybody's about to to,
- 2:17Speaker 2: you know, celebrate the wonderful life day of Christmas. You know,
- 2:23Speaker 2: what better time to give a gift, and what better
- 2:25Speaker 2: time to give a gift to your favorite Star Wars podcast.
- 2:30Speaker 2: Aggressive negotiations but a starbrating review on Apple Podcasts because
- 2:34Speaker 2: it has been a drought of reviews for us, The
- 2:39Speaker 2: four months ago was the last time that we had
- 2:41Speaker 2: a review, and prior to that it was three years ago.
- 2:45Speaker 3: You know, I get it.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Get out there, give us a starbrating review. We'd really
- 2:49Speaker 2: appreciate it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I get it. I understand it's it's a little tough.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Everybody's busy. Those are a couple of extra clicks, like
- 2:55Speaker 3: type it on your iPhone, stuff like that. I get it.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Matt's absolutely right, we would really appreciate it. But the
- 3:02Speaker 3: thing is, the whole time you're talking about that, and
- 3:04Speaker 3: I gotta come back to this. I make a four
- 3:06Speaker 3: to twenty reference, you make a six seven reference, and
- 3:09Speaker 3: then I start writing in my head and I go,
- 3:11Speaker 3: all right, so order sixty six is kill all the Jedi.
- 3:14Speaker 3: And then I was like, execute order sixty seven, annoy
- 3:17Speaker 3: the crap out of the galaxy, you know, like that
- 3:20Speaker 3: makes sense? Right, So, and then Vader's sitting there's a
- 3:24Speaker 3: suck seven right like, and he just, my goodness, gracious,
- 3:29Speaker 3: can you imagine those two getting into it? Like I
- 3:32Speaker 3: can actually with you stop with your stupid trends, Veda,
- 3:38Speaker 3: what do you think of a second death stock SUX seven?
- 3:41Speaker 3: Would you stop saying that? Yeah?
- 3:47Speaker 2: So, all right, so you know, and then you and
- 3:50Speaker 2: then you've got and you got one of the Imperial
- 3:52Speaker 2: Guards going out.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Don't even know what that means, you know, right, Well,
- 3:55Speaker 3: that's why the Red Guards never talk, is they're like,
- 3:57Speaker 3: don't say anything. They're gonna pick it up and they're
- 3:59Speaker 3: just gonna run with it. Be quiet, man, just be quiet, man.
- 4:03Speaker 3: We need a Star Wars story about those Red Guards,
- 4:06Speaker 3: Like I know they delved into them in the comics,
- 4:08Speaker 3: but I would imagine this Disney here free idea for you,
- 4:13Speaker 3: you guys. Animation maybe can pick this one up. I
- 4:15Speaker 3: trust the animation team to do this one. But a
- 4:19Speaker 3: series about the Red Guards, about the training program, about
- 4:24Speaker 3: what they went through, about whether they knew the force,
- 4:26Speaker 3: about all of that different stuff. I mean, come on,
- 4:30Speaker 3: how awesome would that be? It would be pretty darn awesome? Great, right,
- 4:33Speaker 3: I mean good grade. Anyway, So you know, you talk
- 4:38Speaker 3: about like we're still going We're four to twenty in
- 4:42Speaker 3: and I was thinking, this is a topic I've wanted
- 4:45Speaker 3: to like sort of like poke at for a little while.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's one of the trademarks, sort of like silly topics.
- 4:50Speaker 3: But it starts small, but I think get it can
- 4:53Speaker 3: keep going here is handwriting in Star Wars. It's something
- 4:59Speaker 3: that I've been thinking about out for a long time
- 5:01Speaker 3: because every time we've seen it true you know, yes,
- 5:04Speaker 3: I know, I've pitched this how many times. So I
- 5:05Speaker 3: decide I'm going to surprise you with it so that
- 5:07Speaker 3: you can't run away from me. But you know, I
- 5:11Speaker 3: never know. Do we pronounce it arabsh Arubish Aribish like
- 5:16Speaker 3: I think it's arab besh, Yeah, arab Besh. I always
- 5:19Speaker 3: presumed it was like Arabic is how it's supposed to
- 5:21Speaker 3: be pronounced, But I've never heard it officially pronounced anyway,
- 5:25Speaker 3: so it looks almost runic. And like the period of
- 5:29Speaker 3: the galaxy that we're at is always screen displays vocal
- 5:33Speaker 3: commands with astromac droids that sort of thing. So basically
- 5:39Speaker 3: you have a unifying language that the galaxy speaks at
- 5:42Speaker 3: some level. It's like Latin in the Roman Empire. But
- 5:47Speaker 3: we never see anybody take pen to paper, And there's
- 5:50Speaker 3: always been sort of this debate. I remember when Kevin
- 5:52Speaker 3: Jay Anderson wrote his Jedi Academy trilogy, there was kerfluffle
- 5:57Speaker 3: about the fact that he had paper print outs in
- 6:01Speaker 3: that and people were like, no, there're supposed to be
- 6:05Speaker 3: tablets and screens and stuff like that. There is no
- 6:07Speaker 3: paper anymore. But the reason I fixate on the handwriting
- 6:11Speaker 3: thing is we've seen this alphabet. It does not lend
- 6:14Speaker 3: itself to easy writing. It's runic or even hieroglyphic if
- 6:19Speaker 3: you want to go with that, however you want to
- 6:21Speaker 3: say it. It's straight lines and a couple of dots.
- 6:24Speaker 3: All of this sort of thing with handwriting. Was handwriting
- 6:30Speaker 3: a lost art in the Star Wars galaxy. First question
- 6:34Speaker 3: for you, and I just want to start off with
- 6:37Speaker 3: that one because I have a follow up question, But
- 6:39Speaker 3: do you think anybody wrote anything by hand in the
- 6:42Speaker 3: time period of Star Wars where we've seen the filmed adventures.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you know this is ever since you've mentioned this
- 6:51Speaker 2: a long time ago, it has been kind of percolating
- 6:53Speaker 2: in the back of my mind, this idea of you know,
- 6:56Speaker 2: what this might look like, and you know, in many
- 7:01Speaker 2: ways feels most akin to the languages that you would
- 7:09Speaker 2: see written out, like Japanese or Chinese, something along those lines.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And you know what's interesting in those is, you know,
- 7:21Speaker 2: there is a classical view at a classical look of
- 7:25Speaker 2: the letter and then there's a handwriting version, right, so
- 7:29Speaker 2: people can do it much more quickly. And so ever
- 7:31Speaker 2: since you've brought this to my attention and this idea,
- 7:36Speaker 2: I've been thinking about that, and I really do believe
- 7:39Speaker 2: that that's what I think that that would look like
- 7:46Speaker 2: like the idea of writing in Star Wars. Like actually,
- 7:50Speaker 2: you know, handwriting something would be much like that in
- 7:56Speaker 2: those cultures, and and it would becomes a second nature
- 8:02Speaker 2: to you. You would be able to do it quickly.
- 8:04Speaker 2: You know, there would be ways in which strokes led
- 8:07Speaker 2: to other strokes, the same way I think. You know,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you think with English when we were kids, right, you
- 8:13Speaker 2: learn to write cursive and you know you're connecting characters
- 8:16Speaker 2: together and so and you know, speaking of this too,
- 8:20Speaker 2: you know, we haven't seen a ton of books in
- 8:23Speaker 2: Star Wars, right, but we have seen that in and
- 8:27Speaker 2: of course the sequel trilogy, right, you know, especially you
- 8:30Speaker 2: see in the Last Jedi and and then of course
- 8:34Speaker 2: in the Rise of Skywalker the ancient Jedi texts that
- 8:37Speaker 2: are actually written on a parchment, and you see them
- 8:41Speaker 2: have handwriting in them. So but I think in a
- 8:47Speaker 2: lot of ways, by the time we are where we
- 8:50Speaker 2: are in Star Wars. When we get to the prequels
- 8:54Speaker 2: and and that era, it does almost seem as though
- 9:01Speaker 2: computers and maybe voice to text that kind of stuff
- 9:08Speaker 2: may have taken over the galaxy. So people may you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: you know, you think of kids in Skeleton Crew being
- 9:19Speaker 2: at school, right, and that they would learn to write, right,
- 9:24Speaker 2: you know, that would be a skill that they would learn,
- 9:27Speaker 2: is how to create the characters in a written form
- 9:30Speaker 2: with a stylist or something and a pad. But in
- 9:34Speaker 2: the end, I don't know if it's a skill that
- 9:37Speaker 2: people kind of continue to keep up with. I don't
- 9:41Speaker 2: know if you have pen pals, you know, with with
- 9:43Speaker 2: actual parchment letters, you know, because that technology just doesn't
- 9:49Speaker 2: seem to be a part of the galaxy by the
- 9:53Speaker 2: time we get into the Star Wars, which is a
- 9:54Speaker 2: really interesting commentary then on this whole idea of people
- 10:00Speaker 2: obviously read because Arabash still exists and people are able
- 10:04Speaker 2: to read, and yet you know, maybe everybody just uses
- 10:09Speaker 2: e books.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, you know, I hear everything you're saying, and
- 10:14Speaker 3: I think you're absolutely right on so many accounts. But
- 10:19Speaker 3: the reason I fixate on it is because, yes, we've
- 10:22Speaker 3: seen graffiti. I'm pretty sure at least in rebels. We've
- 10:25Speaker 3: seen graffiti, and I think we saw graffiti an attack
- 10:28Speaker 3: of the clones as well, when they're running through the
- 10:31Speaker 3: lower levels running after Zam. I think, yep. And so
- 10:36Speaker 3: there is some form of writing. But again, graffiti's very large,
- 10:41Speaker 3: it's spray paint, it's artistic. It's easier to write that
- 10:46Speaker 3: out rather than you know, text it out sort of thing.
- 10:50Speaker 3: But while I concede that, yeah, obviously some sort of
- 10:54Speaker 3: writing has to exist, and I think we're both on
- 10:56Speaker 3: the same wavelength of like, but how widespread is it? Right,
- 11:00Speaker 3: because people are gonna get I think we're seeing this
- 11:03Speaker 3: with an Okay, I know I keep stopping myself here,
- 11:08Speaker 3: but every single generation, as they get older, as I'm
- 11:12Speaker 3: getting older, and i'd say, Matt, sadly, even your aging,
- 11:16Speaker 3: we get to a point where we look back and
- 11:18Speaker 3: we say, oh, these kids, they're getting so lazy with everything.
- 11:20Speaker 3: And we're in the middle of this AI revolution so called,
- 11:24Speaker 3: where it's like, oh, people are getting lazy with the
- 11:27Speaker 3: way they write and they think, and we're dealing with
- 11:29Speaker 3: the world with astromec droids and interpreters and stuff like that,
- 11:33Speaker 3: where even the technology for the impoverished in the Star
- 11:41Speaker 3: Wars galaxy is accessible at the very least. But where
- 11:48Speaker 3: I go next with the handwriting thing, is is it
- 11:52Speaker 3: possible that handwriting becomes such a lost art on a
- 11:57Speaker 3: wide scale, or just fall out of use in such
- 12:02Speaker 3: a way that you mentioned and I was going to
- 12:06Speaker 3: bring these up, the ancient Jedi texts. As people lose
- 12:12Speaker 3: familiarity with writing and words change over time, there's no
- 12:16Speaker 3: way that Arabesh remained the same through time. I mean
- 12:20Speaker 3: just look at the fact again, going back to the
- 12:22Speaker 3: back at the beginning of the show you six'. Seven
- 12:25Speaker 3: if you'd said that twenty years, ago people have been, like,
- 12:28Speaker 3: what what's wrong with?
- 12:29Speaker 2: You even now people are like, What.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Yeah so you go forward thousands of, years is it
- 12:36Speaker 3: possible this universal language Of, rabesh the lack of handwriting
- 12:43Speaker 3: practice and skill makes it so that those ancient texts
- 12:49Speaker 3: that you look, at that's why knowledge has been, lost
- 12:53Speaker 3: is because nobody could read what had been written, before
- 12:58Speaker 3: because the handwriting had fallen out of popular use and
- 13:03Speaker 3: the ability to read it was. Lost.
- 13:06Speaker 2: YEAH i like what you're saying in the sense that
- 13:10Speaker 2: the possibility of you, know it being much more difficult
- 13:14Speaker 2: to say understand something like The jedi texts because of
- 13:18Speaker 2: the age of the. HANDWRITING i, mean you, know just
- 13:21Speaker 2: the way in which language has changed the thousands of
- 13:24Speaker 2: years that we've you, know been on this planet as human,
- 13:27Speaker 2: beings right, like ever since humanity, began you, know handwriting
- 13:32Speaker 2: has slowly evolved over. Time you, know cure form looks
- 13:36Speaker 2: completely different than what we use, now and it's incredibly
- 13:40Speaker 2: difficult to, read and it took people, many many years
- 13:44Speaker 2: to decipher what was being said when it was. Rediscovered
- 13:48Speaker 2: and so you, KNOW i think maybe that's where the
- 13:53Speaker 2: beauty of having a protocol droid would come, in right
- 13:57Speaker 2: where you, know six million forms of communication and therefore
- 14:02Speaker 2: they are able to decipher. That in, fact you, know
- 14:07Speaker 2: again referencing The rise Of, skywalker you, know the language
- 14:12Speaker 2: of The sith is a language to which droids LIKE
- 14:16Speaker 2: c three po they can read, it but they are
- 14:19Speaker 2: not actually able because of their, programing to translate it
- 14:26Speaker 2: and to tell people what it. Says it's, forbidden and
- 14:30Speaker 2: so you, KNOW i think that's the place where those
- 14:33Speaker 2: type of things would be, very very. Helpful and so
- 14:37Speaker 2: you think of like you, Know ray with The jedi,
- 14:40Speaker 2: texts you, know not everybody has access to a protocol.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Doid so if you just ran across, that you, know
- 14:45Speaker 2: somewhere at a flea market or. Whatever In Star wars they're,
- 14:49Speaker 2: on you, Know, tattooine the likelihood that you would be
- 14:53Speaker 2: able to just sit down and read it might be
- 14:56Speaker 2: few or far. Between and, YEAH i think that's really.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Interesting AND i think it, also you, know as we're
- 15:04Speaker 2: talking about this idea of, handwriting you, KNOW i think
- 15:06Speaker 2: on a planet like saying, naboo that would be something
- 15:11Speaker 2: that's much more in, vogue, right the idea of learning
- 15:14Speaker 2: how to write the, language, Right and then you, think
- 15:20Speaker 2: you know, too does each planet have its own flourishes
- 15:24Speaker 2: for the language the basic language as? Well so you,
- 15:28Speaker 2: know both people who live in The United, states people
- 15:34Speaker 2: who live In, Australia New, Zealand, England, Scotland, ireland we
- 15:40Speaker 2: all Speak, english and yet there's a different dialect Of
- 15:44Speaker 2: english that is said in say somewhere like THE uk
- 15:48Speaker 2: and somewhere like The United. States, RIGHT i, mean a
- 15:51Speaker 2: boot here usually just means something you wear in your foot.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Them it could mean something you wear in a football.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Match it could mean something that is the, uh you,
- 16:03Speaker 2: know trunk of your car and so you, know there's
- 16:06Speaker 2: there's there's all of these different ways in which the
- 16:12Speaker 2: language is malleable in that, sense you, know from where
- 16:17Speaker 2: we are in a different, context and and all that
- 16:22Speaker 2: kind of. Stuff and SO i think that's actually another
- 16:24Speaker 2: thing that's really interesting about this and, why you, know
- 16:27Speaker 2: when we think about the idea of reading and specifically
- 16:32Speaker 2: writing the basic language and arabsh and and how that
- 16:36Speaker 2: may have changed and what that might have meant for
- 16:41Speaker 2: something like you, know these These jedi, texts which obviously
- 16:45Speaker 2: are incredibly old and very valuable and something to which you,
- 16:50Speaker 2: KNOW i don't recall us ever seeing anything else like
- 16:54Speaker 2: that In Star wars before we saw that in the sequel.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Trilogy, WELL i, mean the thing, is you touch on
- 17:00Speaker 3: something and when you Mentioned, naboo immediately where my brain
- 17:04Speaker 3: goes is What i'm terrified, of Isn't and this is
- 17:08Speaker 3: in the real world as, well is that reading and
- 17:13Speaker 3: writing at a certain level reverts back to that sort
- 17:18Speaker 3: of like feudal mentality where only the wealthy with lots
- 17:21Speaker 3: of spare time have the ability to write and read these,
- 17:26Speaker 3: things whereas everybody at you, know a less wealthy strata
- 17:33Speaker 3: of society basically doesn't have the leisure time to do,
- 17:39Speaker 3: it like they've got to rely on the tools that
- 17:41Speaker 3: the audio tools and other tools to sort of like
- 17:44Speaker 3: get through the day sort of. Thing you, KNOW i
- 17:47Speaker 3: wouldn't want that to be the case in any. Sense but,
- 17:51Speaker 3: additionally taking that literacy thing out of, it do you
- 17:57Speaker 3: think it's? Possible and this is Where i'm giving as
- 17:59Speaker 3: much grace is possible to a line That i've hated
- 18:02Speaker 3: the way it was delivered in episode eight SINCE i
- 18:04Speaker 3: saw it for the first, time Where yoda says Asks,
- 18:09Speaker 3: luke you know read? Them have? You when he's talking
- 18:10Speaker 3: about The jedi? Texts do you think it's possible with
- 18:15Speaker 3: this discussion to layer on or read of that scene
- 18:19Speaker 3: Where yoda's making a joke of. IT i. Guess But
- 18:24Speaker 3: luke literally couldn't read The jedi texts because he never
- 18:29Speaker 3: had anybody around that taught him how to read what
- 18:32Speaker 3: was written in. There for, instance the Ancient jedi, texts
- 18:35Speaker 3: they're out. There maybe somebody In yoda's day could read,
- 18:38Speaker 3: them but it was taught to The. Jedi it was
- 18:43Speaker 3: a specific skill set to read those texts in The jedi,
- 18:47Speaker 3: order And luke literally was unable to read those. Texts,
- 18:53Speaker 3: YEAH i, MEAN i that might be.
- 18:59Speaker 2: INTERESTING i like. IT i think the way it's played
- 19:01Speaker 2: and then it gets the you, know the WAY i saw,
- 19:04Speaker 2: IT i wouldn't it definitely seemed Like luke had read.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Them, yeah it's not played that. Way, yeah it's played
- 19:12Speaker 3: for a cheap laugh in the, movie which is WHY
- 19:14Speaker 3: i hate. It but, yeah is it possible to bring
- 19:17Speaker 3: that read onto?
- 19:18Speaker 2: IT i, YEAH i, mean you, know Making luca an
- 19:24Speaker 2: uncultured swine who you, know never learned how to, read
- 19:27Speaker 2: because all he had to know was how to you,
- 19:30Speaker 2: know service no.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Operators, no he he knows how to read like the
- 19:35Speaker 3: modern screen. Stuff, sure because we see him reading a
- 19:39Speaker 3: screen FROM r two in HIS X. Wing that's, established
- 19:43Speaker 3: that's on. Screen we see the on screen translation FROM r.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Two is it just possible, that with our talk about
- 19:49Speaker 3: how handwriting changes through, time that's why he's unable to read. It,
- 19:52Speaker 3: YEAH i.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Mean that would have been the most generous read and
- 20:00Speaker 2: that would be great if that was a. Possibility you,
- 20:03Speaker 2: KNOW i, think you, know it's definitely unfortunate that they
- 20:07Speaker 2: made that an impossibility with, that and so you know
- 20:12Speaker 2: IT'S i liked where you went with this, though and
- 20:18Speaker 2: there is really something interesting in the way in which you,
- 20:23Speaker 2: know you look at like hieroglyphics and you, know this pictorial,
- 20:29Speaker 2: language and it is so interesting to watch just the
- 20:33Speaker 2: way in which our own culture has reverted back to that,
- 20:37Speaker 2: idea you, know with emojis and so it's it's, like you,
- 20:43Speaker 2: know there's nothing new under the, sun and and so
- 20:48Speaker 2: and that does make me wonder, about you, know the
- 20:52Speaker 2: life of star wars and people in, stars because obviously
- 20:56Speaker 2: The jedi temple had a huge library of, information right
- 21:00Speaker 2: and it was full of things that it looked as
- 21:03Speaker 2: though the library we saw things had been taken and.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Digitized therefore to preserve them so that you, know books
- 21:13Speaker 2: can deteriorate and all those type of, things and so
- 21:15Speaker 2: that that was one of the key important aspects of
- 21:22Speaker 2: being The, jedi was preserving. Knowledge and then of course
- 21:25Speaker 2: you have, holocrons which also helped preserve even more. Knowledge
- 21:31Speaker 2: and so this really was a KEY i think of The,
- 21:36Speaker 2: jedi which which is when you think about then What
- 21:40Speaker 2: palpatine begins to, do and even just where we are
- 21:45Speaker 2: in the, prequels AND i think what makes them even
- 21:48Speaker 2: more salient than they were when they first came. Out
- 21:54Speaker 2: is that in our own world we have become so
- 21:57Speaker 2: much more enamored with visual media and the ways in
- 22:07Speaker 2: which visual media and quick hit media and all of
- 22:12Speaker 2: this kind of thing can be used to much more
- 22:17Speaker 2: easily manipulate people than, say a long form BOOK yep
- 22:23Speaker 2: or text is the thing in WHICH i think Helps
- 22:29Speaker 2: palpatine be able to take over the. Galaxy and, again
- 22:33Speaker 2: The jedi were the bastions of those who revered knowledge
- 22:38Speaker 2: and wisdom right, Even and that's What deck, says, like
- 22:40Speaker 2: you would think The jedi would know the difference between
- 22:43Speaker 2: knowledge and.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Wisdom but, conversely you, know, yes that's the positive view
- 22:51Speaker 3: of The jedi THAT i agree, With but intended or,
- 22:56Speaker 3: not it turns them into gatekeepers of the. Knowledge they
- 23:01Speaker 3: wind up cloistering the knowledge in their. Temple and so
- 23:05Speaker 3: you have if you're not A, jedi there's stuff that
- 23:08Speaker 3: you'll never be allowed to. Know you're basically literally putting
- 23:11Speaker 3: it in a place where you have to be A
- 23:13Speaker 3: jedi to access. It which the most noble thing they
- 23:18Speaker 3: could have done was to have A jedi library and
- 23:22Speaker 3: anybody could come and access it and see. It and
- 23:25Speaker 3: they just had the you, know guards around it and
- 23:28Speaker 3: stuff like that to make sure nobody tampered with or
- 23:30Speaker 3: like maybe THEY i, mean we're in the digital. Age
- 23:32Speaker 3: maybe it was a giant backup hard drive that they.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Had you, know, hey you, know here's the backup of
- 23:37Speaker 3: The Jedi library over. There but like, seriously like because
- 23:41Speaker 3: the destruction of The Jedi temple or not, destruction because
- 23:45Speaker 3: we see it at the end of episode, Six, NO
- 23:48Speaker 3: i know what you mean, though but like that that,
- 23:50Speaker 3: damage that raid of The Jedi temple and everything that
- 23:53Speaker 3: goes in, there now with what you're talking, about carries
- 23:58Speaker 3: shades of the destruction of The library Of alexandria with
- 24:02Speaker 3: all of the knowledge that was lost when that. Happened,
- 24:05Speaker 3: yeah and it's Like palpatine winds up hitting a big
- 24:08Speaker 3: reset button on the.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Galaxy, well, YES i, mean and that's you, know, obviously
- 24:13Speaker 2: that is the thing to Which palpatine. Does that you,
- 24:16Speaker 2: know we see all throughout totalitarian, regimes, right you basically
- 24:21Speaker 2: create year, zero like the year in which everything. Resets
- 24:25Speaker 2: and and that's exactly what you know he did in
- 24:29Speaker 2: in the ways in which he reset everybody's ideas of The,
- 24:33Speaker 2: jedi he excelerated the idea of helping people forget them
- 24:39Speaker 2: right as quickly as possible because he doesn't want people remembering,
- 24:44Speaker 2: it which you, know you brought the idea, of you,
- 24:47Speaker 2: know having Other jedi, libraries BUT i was also, thinking
- 24:50Speaker 2: like it also seems to, me is That jedi at their,
- 24:54Speaker 2: height and and maybe in the golden era of The,
- 24:58Speaker 2: jedi what they would have been known for was Having jedi,
- 25:02Speaker 2: schools not just to train More, jedi but just to
- 25:06Speaker 2: educate people in, general be a bastion of education and
- 25:11Speaker 2: knowledge and wisdom throughout the, galaxy beyond just creating more
- 25:17Speaker 2: of their own, cult but to just propagate the idea
- 25:23Speaker 2: of knowledge and wisdom throughout the, galaxy which you, KNOW
- 25:26Speaker 2: i think it just it kind of it really helps
- 25:33Speaker 2: me see how MUCH i would love to, actually, LIKE
- 25:39Speaker 2: i don't want to speak, ill BUT i really disliked
- 25:42Speaker 2: almost all of The High republic, stuff AND i would
- 25:50Speaker 2: really love to see somebody tackle the height of The
- 25:55Speaker 2: jedi in a really interesting. Way and this is one
- 25:59Speaker 2: of the place is WHERE i think that could actually
- 26:02Speaker 2: be a part of.
- 26:04Speaker 3: That. WELL i, Mean John Jackson, miller with his Book
- 26:08Speaker 3: The Living, force winds up keying on this idea that
- 26:11Speaker 3: The jedi are recognizing shortly before episode, one we've kind
- 26:16Speaker 3: of lost, touch haven't, We like we have gone off
- 26:19Speaker 3: and we're not out there with the people so that
- 26:22Speaker 3: they understand what we're. About but more, importantly even more
- 26:26Speaker 3: important than. Midiclorians especially since to its credit season one
- 26:30Speaker 3: Of ahsoka has gone back to this idea of, like,
- 26:33Speaker 3: well The jedi were never supposed to be using midichlorians
- 26:36Speaker 3: as like the be, all end all measurement, Anyway, right
- 26:42Speaker 3: you have a situation where what better way to find
- 26:46Speaker 3: Potential jedi than to go out and Found jedi Schools
- 26:50Speaker 3: and there might be somebody who walks in one day
- 26:53Speaker 3: and you're, like, ahat you got the. Gift you got the.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Gift why don't you come with me and we'll do
- 27:00Speaker 3: a little. Testing you got the? Touch hey hey hey,
- 27:03Speaker 3: wrong no, no no hold, on, no, no no. Wrong
- 27:05Speaker 3: franchise is one of those ones WHERE i will draw
- 27:07Speaker 3: a line in the. Sand that song belongs To Rodamus,
- 27:11Speaker 3: prime my, friend not to any.
- 27:12Speaker 2: JOKE i, mean that song was supposed to belong to you,
- 27:16Speaker 2: Know Rocky.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Balboa but you, know so that's a whole other different.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Podcast we got to find something here on the nerd party.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Argument you know what you're. On you are on if
- 27:27Speaker 3: you want to talk about soundtrack, mistakes although it's not
- 27:31Speaker 3: a mistake because honestly and honestly that, oh you know,
- 27:37Speaker 3: What i'm about to go totally down into A transformers
- 27:40Speaker 3: the movie soundtrack from nineteen eighty six and all of that.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Stuff, fine such an old just easy, Obviously, NO i you,
- 27:46Speaker 2: KNOW i like that you brought that, up, Though AND
- 27:50Speaker 2: i do want to SAY i think that this is
- 27:51Speaker 2: one of the places where you, know you Mentioned John
- 27:54Speaker 2: Jackson miller's, book, right and this is just one of
- 27:59Speaker 2: the things, that when done, well that THE eu adds to.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Perfectly you know that the extended universe that the books
- 28:12Speaker 2: that come, out this is what they're meant to, do,
- 28:15Speaker 2: Right they're meant to be able to continue the storyline
- 28:20Speaker 2: but add other building blocks that help you understand what
- 28:24Speaker 2: was happening to what you saw on. Screen and so
- 28:27Speaker 2: you bringing that, UP i just love how it crystallizes
- 28:30Speaker 2: this whole discussion that we've been having about the idea
- 28:32Speaker 2: of written language In Star wars and what that would
- 28:34Speaker 2: look like and how that might have affected, things and
- 28:38Speaker 2: what might the shift between a written linear language and
- 28:43Speaker 2: just seeing it on a computer screen might have done
- 28:46Speaker 2: to an entire. Galaxy AND i think that that is
- 28:51Speaker 2: just an incredibly interesting, idea and that book itself helps
- 28:57Speaker 2: us see some of the ways in, Which, yeah The
- 28:59Speaker 2: JEDI i had kind of lost themselves by the time
- 29:05Speaker 2: of the, prequels and they just realize it too. Late
- 29:09Speaker 2: and part of that is just because they became, myopic
- 29:17Speaker 2: and there's a real danger in. That AND i, think
- 29:22Speaker 2: you know that myopathy is so much easier when we're
- 29:30Speaker 2: never exposed to new ideas or old, ideas or ideas
- 29:37Speaker 2: that challenge our. Preconceptions and SO i love this discussion
- 29:42Speaker 2: because it really does kind of show you how rich and,
- 29:46Speaker 2: deep you, Know Star wars can be and is just
- 29:49Speaker 2: from having you, know silly discussions about handwriting, WELL.
- 29:54Speaker 3: I, mean and, additionally like you, know you talk about old,
- 29:56Speaker 3: ideas when you start taking away the ability to read
- 30:00Speaker 3: the either there's an old statement FROM i Think shakespeare's
- 30:03Speaker 3: day where it was like translator equals. Trader once you
- 30:06Speaker 3: lose the ability to read those old, texts once you
- 30:09Speaker 3: lose the ability to contextualize things, appropriately somebody can influence
- 30:14Speaker 3: how you think about, them which is going to change
- 30:17Speaker 3: everything about your perception of, them which is going to
- 30:21Speaker 3: lead to all sorts of. Things it's, like, oh well
- 30:23Speaker 3: The jedi believe, That, well why do you think? That, well,
- 30:27Speaker 3: well you know this, quote and you can literally just
- 30:29Speaker 3: pluck something out of, context and because that person can't
- 30:32Speaker 3: give it the proper, context all of a, sudden you've
- 30:35Speaker 3: rewritten history exactly just and you did. It you. Know it's, like,
- 30:39Speaker 3: Uh kaiser SoSE and the usual. Suspects you know that
- 30:42Speaker 3: the best lie is cloaked in, truth and you.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Know AND i, mean isn't that exactly What palpatine?
- 30:49Speaker 3: Did? Right, yes there it, is you.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Know and SO i think this is just really one
- 30:56Speaker 2: of the beautiful things about this. Saga AND i think
- 30:59Speaker 2: it's one of the beautiful things about the saga when
- 31:01Speaker 2: it's done, well when it's done, correctly you, know AND
- 31:07Speaker 2: i think it really, shows you, know it's one of
- 31:11Speaker 2: the reasons WHY i think both you AND i when
- 31:13Speaker 2: it comes to so much of the animated, material which
- 31:17Speaker 2: dove in even deeper to these, subjects got into you,
- 31:21Speaker 2: know as we do. Here sometimes it's very silly and
- 31:24Speaker 2: we're you, know we're just having a good. Time but you,
- 31:26Speaker 2: know you get into subject like this and you, think oh,
- 31:29Speaker 2: man we're going to talk about writing In Star, wars
- 31:33Speaker 2: handwriting And Star. Wars and yet this is the type
- 31:36Speaker 2: of stuff to WHICH i think in a lot of
- 31:38Speaker 2: ways Clone wars and The Bad batch and rebels and
- 31:42Speaker 2: all those. Things you see bits and pieces of these
- 31:48Speaker 2: type of elements in the stories because they're able to
- 31:52Speaker 2: dig more into what we might consider, minutia you.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Know and this gal.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Lexy is rich and, deep AND i think, it you,
- 32:02Speaker 2: know the beauty of it is That george always wanted
- 32:06Speaker 2: this to be a thing to help people think about
- 32:09Speaker 2: the world that we live. In uh and and the
- 32:12Speaker 2: ramifications of you, know not thinking about the world that
- 32:17Speaker 2: you lived. In AND i think that's pretty.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Fun so, well speaking of rich and deep and, fun
- 32:26Speaker 3: where can people find you online so that they can
- 32:28Speaker 3: discuss handwriting In Star wars and all of the other
- 32:30Speaker 3: topics that it leads.
- 32:31Speaker 2: To, WELL i don't know how much depth there, is
- 32:34Speaker 2: but hopefully there's some. Fun you can find me all
