- 0:01Romans chapter 16 Let us pray, oh Lord, our God, who reigns on
- 0:09high forever worthy to be praised.
- 0:13Oh Lord God, here we are again. Father, we are your servants.
- 0:17We are sold out. Lay down lovers, Father of the
- 0:20way God. We only want what you want,
- 0:23Father. We get out of our own way, out
- 0:26of our own reasonings, God, out of our own feelings and emotions
- 0:30and circumstances. And God, we come up to the
- 0:34holiest of holy places. We come up to where you are,
- 0:38Father, seated with you in heavenly places.
- 0:41We are more than conquerors and we are the peacemakers of this
- 0:45world. Father, Father us well.
- 0:48God Almighty, we love you, Jesus.
- 0:51Thank you Holy Spirit for the filling today.
- 0:54Thank you, Holy Spirit, for the outpouring and the outflowing.
- 0:57God, into the communities and into our neighborhoods of the
- 1:01highways and the hedges and the byways.
- 1:03God, we snatch those that are perishing.
- 1:06Father, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ that today will be
- 1:10the day of salvation. Let the zeal of your house
- 1:12consume us, Father, and eat us up.
- 1:15God, we just want more of you. We want the kind of glory, God.
- 1:19We want to be there where you are, Father.
- 1:21We know that you have gone to prepare a place for us, God, and
- 1:24we await patiently like a bride waiting for her groom.
- 1:28We have made ourselves ready. We have filled our lamps, God.
- 1:32We have trimmed our Wicks, Father, and we wait patiently,
- 1:36Lord, But help us to wait well. Help us not to grow despondent
- 1:40and bored, Father. I pray in the name of Jesus that
- 1:43we will be entertained by you, Lord, and you alone.
- 1:47God, these scriptures have life and power, Father, that they are
- 1:51alive and they are active and they are reading us today.
- 1:55And so God, we don't try to be your PR.
- 1:59We are just your bond servants. We are nothing but unprofitable
- 2:04servants. And we have only done what was
- 2:06our duty to do. Father, because of the great
- 2:09exchange, Father, all of our sin, sickness, all of our
- 2:14disease, God, our death and our sin.
- 2:17Father, you gave us life and life abundant.
- 2:21You forgave us for all of our sins.
- 2:23And so, Lord Jesus Christ Almighty, we exalt you high
- 2:27above every single principality and ruler, all the demonic
- 2:31hosts. Father, we exalt your holy name.
- 2:34You are the name above all names.
- 2:36The only name worthy to be praised is Jesus Christ of
- 2:40Nazareth, the long-awaited Messiah.
- 2:43We love you, King Jesus, You are the King of Kings and the Lord
- 2:46of Lords, and you are ruler over all of the universe.
- 2:51And you, you are worthy to open the scroll.
- 2:55You are worthy of all of our praise.
- 2:58We get out of our own way. We say yes and Amen to all of
- 3:01your ways. We pray for the peace of
- 3:04Jerusalem, Father, Bring about your prophecies today, God.
- 3:08I pray that you will rapture us up to where you are.
- 3:12Father, we just want you. We do not want to just escape
- 3:16all of the things of this world, God.
- 3:18We want you more than we want this world, God, And that is
- 3:21what we yearn for and that is what we want more than safety.
- 3:26We just want you, God, and you alone.
- 3:29We wait for you, but in the waiting God purify us.
- 3:34Purge out all of the impurities Father.
- 3:37Refine us in the refiners. Fire God, tread the winepress.
- 3:41Jesus Christ, we are covered in your blood.
- 3:44Jesus Christ, we wait for you. We know that we are holy because
- 3:48you are holy and where you are we will be.
- 3:51Father, we love you. King Jesus, show us your eternal
- 3:55path today. As we read your word, let your
- 3:58word read us. We hide it in our hearts today
- 4:01so that we might not sin against you, Father, and it's in Jesus
- 4:05Christ, holy and precious name that I pray.
- 4:09Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 4:19I commend unto you Phoebe, our sister, which is a servant of
- 4:24the church which is at centre. So here we can see that this
- 4:30this is Paul ending his wonderful, amazing letter to the
- 4:34Roman church. He was writing to them in
- 4:39expectancy that he would go to them as a missionary, not
- 4:45knowing that he would come to them and appear before Caesar
- 4:50Nero and he would be on Rome's dime as a prisoner, but get to
- 4:54live autonomously in a House of his own choosing.
- 5:00To that you receive her in the Lord as become Saints, and that
- 5:07you assist her in whatsoever business she has need of you.
- 5:11For she has been a secure of many and of all of myself also.
- 5:16So Paul is sending the church in Rome the admonition of Phoebe,
- 5:24saying that she's been a great help to him and of many, and to
- 5:27receive her and to receive her well with wonderful hospitality.
- 5:32And that is our call as well. We should receive our brothers
- 5:36and sisters with hospitality. And in by doing so, some have
- 5:41entertained angels, three great Priscilla and Aquila, my helpers
- 5:45in Christ Jesus. What a paradox between Aquila,
- 5:52Priscilla and Ananias and Sapphira.
- 5:58We see these two marriages in the book of Acts and you see how
- 6:04Aquila and Priscilla represent a godly sold out, laid down lover
- 6:10missionary heart marriage. And you see that Ananias and
- 6:15Sapphira, their marriage is represented as a greedy one that
- 6:21the devil used to try to destroy the early church.
- 6:25And aren't we thankful that there is a marriage that is
- 6:29represented to represented in the New Testament that we can
- 6:34look up to? And that is what Aquila and
- 6:37Priscilla amount to here in this text.
- 6:39You need to know that they are wonderful examples for us to
- 6:46follow, and Paul commends them here in the very last part of
- 6:50his letter to the Church in Rome.
- 6:53For who have for my life laid down their own necks, unto whom
- 6:58not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the
- 7:02Gentiles. So we as a whole, for all time's
- 7:06sake, are very much encouraged and blessed by the ministry of
- 7:14Aquila and Priscilla. They housed the Apostle Paul who
- 7:18was writing so much of our New Testament that we are eternally
- 7:22blessed by, and they are great examples for us to follow.
- 7:28And we are all blessed by their decision to take Paul in and to
- 7:33minister unto Paul's needs. Praise God Hallelujah for an
- 7:38example of a healthy church and a healthy marriage.
- 7:41And you can see here that there is a huge difference between
- 7:44being married and being happily married.
- 7:48And the difference is being in service to our Lord Jesus
- 7:54Christ. And you will be happy in your
- 7:56marriage, and you will treat your bride the way that Christ
- 8:00treats the church. Friends 5 likewise greet the
- 8:05church that is in their house. Salute my well beloved Epinitis
- 8:10who is the 1st fruits of Achaea unto Christ.
- 8:14So you can see that in the 1st century church, the called out
- 8:19ones Ecclesia, there was not buildings.
- 8:21As we have become accustomed to friends that we know of as
- 8:26Church, I want you to know that Church is where two or more are
- 8:30gathered and that is still relevant to today.
- 8:34Friends, He is in the midst of you.
- 8:37So there is actually if there are two brothers meeting in a
- 8:42house, just know that there are five in attendance.
- 8:45God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. 3 and 1.
- 8:51And when you realize that, you will realize that all of your
- 8:55rowdy friends have come over and it's going to be a Holy Ghost
- 8:59party. And there is no party like a
- 9:01Holy Ghost party, because the Holy Ghost party doesn't stop. 6
- 9:09Greet Mary, who bestowed much labor on US. 7 Salute Adrianakis
- 9:17and Junior, my kinsmen, my fellow prisoners, who are of
- 9:21note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
- 9:26So here he is wanting to recognize some key players in
- 9:31his ministry, those that have helped prop him up.
- 9:35And you can see that Paul was not afraid, just like our Lord
- 9:39Jesus Christ. He was not afraid to have women
- 9:43in his company because he never blurred the lines and crossed
- 9:47the lines as some are in the habit of doing.
- 9:50You need to. As men of faith, we need to view
- 9:55every single woman that we meet other than our wife as a mother,
- 10:03a sister or a daughter. And when you do that, you will
- 10:07not be tempted and you will see them as weak vessels that are in
- 10:11need of a father figure, of an older brother, of a kinsman
- 10:18Redeemer. You're going to see them as
- 10:20those that are able to be your helper and those that are able
- 10:25to have the information to bring to you to make hard decisions.
- 10:29And Paul here was never turned away in his ministry by women
- 10:37who could not lay any charge against him of blurring the
- 10:41lines. And what a wonderful example for
- 10:44us. So many people are brought low
- 10:48by those temptations that they never dealt with in the
- 10:51beginning. When they counted the cost, they
- 10:54saw some kind of high position that was going to give them the
- 10:59ability to Lord over others. And that is always brought to
- 11:04the light by the Lord God Almighty, Who He sees
- 11:08everything, He knows everything, He knows our inner motives, and
- 11:12in due time, at the proper time, He will bring it all into the
- 11:16light and it will be revealed. And how many people have been
- 11:22completely turned off from church and turned off from God
- 11:26because of a minister who did not know how to operate within
- 11:32the confines of how God thinks of every single human being on
- 11:37planet earth? And we are called to be men of
- 11:41faith, and we are not called to be animals or to act like boys.
- 11:46And God forbid we become feminine and act like women,
- 11:51men. It is high time for men to act
- 11:54like men to actually be the men of God that this world
- 11:59desperately needs, to be the shepherds that the Lord has
- 12:03ordained to go in to make sure that we are the protectors over
- 12:09our families and the protectors over the congregation and to not
- 12:13allow those positions to become vanity and pride.
- 12:18Friends will which will always result in the downfall of a
- 12:22ministry. And Paul modelled that for us
- 12:26well. And you can see it with Phoebe.
- 12:29You can see it with Mary. You can see it with Junior.
- 12:33You see it, Friends. 8 Greet Ampless, my beloved in the Lord.
- 12:409 Salute Irvine, our helper in Christ, and Stycus, my beloved.
- 12:4410 Salute Apolis, approved in Christ.
- 12:47Salute them which are of Aristobulus household.
- 12:51There are some scholars who think that maybe this old
- 12:55Aristobulus was not actually a believer, but those of his
- 12:59household were, and he, Paul, could not lay charge on
- 13:03Aristobulus of being in Christ. But we can only surmise such
- 13:10reasonings and thinkings. Praise God for his whole
- 13:14household. 11 Salute Herodian, my kinsmen greet them that be of
- 13:20the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord. 12 Salute
- 13:25Trifena and Trifosa, who labor in the Lord.
- 13:28Salute the beloved purses which labored much in the Lord. 13
- 13:33Salute Rufus, chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.
- 13:38Perhaps this Rufus is the son of the man who had to carry Jesus
- 13:48Christ cross when he was too weak to carry it.
- 13:54And we know that he had sons, and one of them, their names was
- 13:59Rufus. And he became a prominent leader
- 14:02of the early church. And you can see it all played
- 14:05together, this tapestry. And God is so amazing in showing
- 14:11us and honoring us the men and women who were there in the
- 14:16beginning, who put their full faith, knowing that it meant
- 14:19certain death and persecution, and they counted the cost, and
- 14:26they found that he was worthy. 14 Salute asynchronous Fleon,
- 14:36Irmas, Patrabos, Hermes, the brothers which are with them. 15
- 14:42Salute Phylogos and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and
- 14:46Olympus and all the Saints which are with them.
- 14:50So here we can see that Paul is wanting to honor all those who
- 14:54came alongside of him and help to support him in his missionary
- 14:59endeavors. And we are eternally blessed by
- 15:01all of these names. These are not just names you can
- 15:04tell. This is a personal letter that
- 15:07Paul wrote and it was inspired by the Holy Spirit.
- 15:13How amazing is this book that we hold in our hands. 16 Salute one
- 15:17another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute
- 15:20you. 17 Now I beg you, brothers, mark them which cause divisions
- 15:31and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned,
- 15:40and avoid them. Paul cannot make it any more
- 15:48plain. Inspired by the Holy Spirit what
- 15:50it is that we are to do with people that are addicted to
- 15:54drama, those that love to gossip, those that love to sow
- 16:03discord amongst brethren? We are to avoid them.
- 16:08Friends, warn A divisive person once and then warn them again
- 16:13after that have nothing to do with them, for you can be sure
- 16:17that they are warped and self condemned.
- 16:21Friends, do not cast your pearls amongst swine, he says.
- 16:26Mark them and avoid them. This is godly wisdom friends.
- 16:35Too many of us try to stay in the fight too long and we are
- 16:39overcome by all of the negativity and God does not
- 16:44desire that for you. Friends, Jesus often withdrew to
- 16:49lonely places and that is what you need to know that it is OK.
- 16:54Go and be strengthened in the Lord as David did when all the
- 16:58people wanted to kill him. He strengthened himself in the
- 17:01Lord and that is our call. We cannot minister to others out
- 17:05of an empty cup. And when you surround yourselves
- 17:08with people that are negative and people that are drama,
- 17:12you're going to find yourself drained friends, and you must
- 17:15avoid them, and go to the secret place and pray to the Father,
- 17:20and be indwelled with the Holy Spirit, and be full of the Holy
- 17:24Spirit to be able to be useful for the Kingdom of God. 18 For
- 17:32they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own
- 17:37belly. And by good words and fair
- 17:43speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
- 17:47He's telling us that their belly is their God.
- 17:50Lowercase G that is why fasting is so important friends is we
- 17:55tell the body that it is to be made subject to the spiritual
- 18:01the spiritual supersedes all of the physical and if you are not
- 18:05fasting, your belly will become your God and you may give clever
- 18:11little Jingle speeches. You may memorize scripture, but
- 18:14they have no power, friends, because you are not in tune with
- 18:19the Lord God, because you have not disciplined the physical.
- 18:24And here he's saying that the simple will be LED astray by all
- 18:28the cleverness in the craftiness of the ravenous wolves in
- 18:32sheep's clothing. And they love the prosperity
- 18:35gospel because it speaks right in to all of their vanity and
- 18:41pride. We must deal with those people.
- 18:4719 For your obedience has come abroad unto all men.
- 18:52I am glad, therefore, on your behalf.
- 18:54But yet I would have you wise unto that which is good and
- 19:00simple concerning evil. So he's saying, don't set your
- 19:04minds on all the bad and the evil and all of the things that
- 19:07are being upended in our world. All of the local news and all of
- 19:12the World News that tells us that everything is going
- 19:16sideways, he says. Don't try to figure out evil.
- 19:21Know that it's there. Know that we must be on guard.
- 19:25But we do not need to be so completely obsessive over all of
- 19:31the evil that is in the world. We need to be so completely
- 19:36obsessive over the things that are godly and good and pure and
- 19:41wholesome friends. That is the things that we think
- 19:44upon. And what you behold, you become
- 19:48friends. Behold the glory of the Father.
- 19:52Don't try to figure out the schemes of the enemy, just
- 19:56beware of them. That it is reality.
- 19:59Do not be ignorant, brothers, in what the enemy is about.
- 20:06No matter how he presents it, it always leads to stealing,
- 20:11killing. And destroying, no matter how
- 20:14beautiful it looks like in the beginning, no matter how moral
- 20:18it looks like in the beginning, no matter how progressive it
- 20:21looks like in the beginning, it is always stealing, killing, and
- 20:25destroying. That is all that you need to
- 20:27know. That is the simple truth of how
- 20:29the enemy works and what his tactics and his ultimate goal
- 20:33is. Any time that he comes into a
- 20:35camp, we must crush the head of rebellion.
- 20:40Crush the head of the serpent, friends 20 and the God of peace
- 20:50shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly.
- 20:56The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
- 21:00Amen. Think about it.
- 21:02It's exactly what I just said. He is going to get his head
- 21:06crushed. All the way back in Genesis,
- 21:08whenever God was dealing with the serpent, He said you will
- 21:14have to writhe on your belly. He was telling him he'd bruise
- 21:19his heel, but that Jesus Christ will crush his head.
- 21:23He knows that his time is short and that is why he's flailing.
- 21:28That is why you see all of the evil in the world that is
- 21:32culminating into Armageddon. Friends, go and read the end of
- 21:37Revelation and we will together. But go and read it.
- 21:41Jesus Christ amasses all the evil into a literal geographical
- 21:45place called Megiddo and He will deal with every single evil
- 21:50person that is in the world, those that are bent upon
- 21:53destruction. But He has given us time after
- 21:56time after time to repent and to come back with Him.
- 22:00And He is long-suffering, Friends, but it is not infinite.
- 22:06We are limited in our ability to respond to Him because time is
- 22:12not unlimited. We will be ushered into eternity
- 22:17by and by soon enough. But in the meantime and in
- 22:20between time. His mercies are new every day.
- 22:23Put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ today and be saved,
- 22:27Friends. 21 Timothy, my fellow worker, and Lucius and Jason
- 22:36Saucipater, my kinsmen, salute you. 22 I, tortillas who write
- 22:42this epistle salute you in the Lord. 23 Gaius, my host and of
- 22:49the whole church, salute you, arrest us, the Chamberlain of
- 22:53the city salute you, and Quartus a brother. 24 The grace of our
- 23:01Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
- 23:03Amen. 25 Now to him that is of power to establish you according
- 23:11to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to
- 23:15the revelation of the mystery which was kept secret since the
- 23:20world began, 26 but now is made manifest, and by the scriptures
- 23:28of the prophets, according to the commandment of the
- 23:31everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of
- 23:36faith, we'll end on 27 To God only wise be glory through Jesus
- 23:44Christ forever. Amen.
- 23:48This last little section is such a beautiful section.
- 23:51We need to meditate upon it. Friends, It is only by grace
- 23:56that we're made right and have our right standing in the at one
- 24:00mint with the Lord Jesus Christ. We now know that it is only His
- 24:06power that establishes everything.
- 24:08It was by the breath of His mouth He created all in the
- 24:12entire Galaxy, in the entire universe, was spoken into
- 24:18existence, and that is the power that establishes everything seen
- 24:22and unseen. This is the good news friends,
- 24:26and the only good news that is out there.
- 24:28There is no good news other than Jesus Christ and what He did for
- 24:32us on the cross whenever He took all of our sins on Him and He
- 24:37made us holy in the sight of God.
- 24:41And there is only one revelation.
- 24:43There is not revelations, friends.
- 24:46There is only one revelation. And it is Jesus Christ who was
- 24:50made manifest for us, friends, who took on all of our sins.
- 24:55And this was a mystery that was hidden all throughout the Old
- 25:01Testament. But as soon as Jesus Christ
- 25:03arrived on the scene, Anna saw it, and you know that John the
- 25:11Baptist was the forerunner, and you know that it was all brought
- 25:16out into the open and everything.
- 25:19If you came to him honestly, if you come to him honestly, you
- 25:22will find out that everything points to Jesus Christ.
- 25:26He is the chief cornerstone. 26 But now is made known, and by
- 25:33the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of
- 25:38the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience
- 25:42of faith. When you come to Him by faith,
- 25:45He will show you that all the scriptures point to Jesus
- 25:48Christ, and it does not need to be hidden any longer if you will
- 25:52just come to Him honestly. And it is only God who gets the
- 25:57glory. It is only God, Jesus Christ,
- 26:00and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
- 26:03Oh man, I hope you've been blessed by this last chapter
- 26:06here in Romans. I know, I sure have.
- 26:08I've been very blessed by this book in the Bible.
- 26:11What an amazing time we've had together.
- 26:15We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 26:16We'll be starting on our journey in First Corinthians, these
- 26:19carnal Christians, and it should not be so, but Paul calls them
- 26:23that and we believe it. Thank you, Father, for your holy
- 26:27scriptures. I'm praying for you.
- 26:37I love you. I'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 26:44God bless you.
