- 0:01Speaker 1: Charging about.
- 0:03Speaker 2: I tell you what Pat Murphy good for him an extension,
- 0:06Speaker 2: And it's actually not even an extension.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Aj.
- 0:08Speaker 2: It is a brand new contract for Pat Murphy, the
- 0:12Speaker 2: manager of the Milwaukee Brewers. It is said to be
- 0:15Speaker 2: let's see here, with a club option for twenty twenty nine.
- 0:19Speaker 2: It adds two years onto his contract, guaranteed eight point
- 0:22Speaker 2: nine to five million in new money, makes him one
- 0:25Speaker 2: of the highest paid managers in Major League Baseball.
- 0:29Speaker 3: So Todd, let's start with you.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Pat Murphy is a guy people seem to love to
- 0:35Speaker 2: play for, and it just speaks to what the Brewers
- 0:38Speaker 2: and Mark Antanasio think about him going ahead and giving
- 0:41Speaker 2: him a new deal before the season starts.
- 0:43Speaker 3: What do you make of it?
- 0:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I think this is fantastic.
- 0:46Speaker 5: You know, you hear a lot of players getting big deals,
- 0:49Speaker 5: and now you're seeing managers getting big.
- 0:51Speaker 4: Deals too as well. He's a players coach man. This guy.
- 0:55Speaker 5: He's funny, he's witty, but ultimately he's serious at the
- 0:58Speaker 5: times that need be a lot out of his players.
- 1:01Speaker 5: I never got to play with him or for him.
- 1:05Speaker 5: Excuse me, I would have loved to. I played for
- 1:08Speaker 5: some really good managers, but this guy he's an old soul.
- 1:11Speaker 5: He loves the game and he respects the game. Like
- 1:14Speaker 5: I said, he wants a lot out of you, and
- 1:16Speaker 5: deservingly so good for him. Man, there's not many good
- 1:19Speaker 5: managers out there. This guy right now, he deserves it,
- 1:23Speaker 5: and I'm happy for him. And hopefully the Brewers understand,
- 1:26Speaker 5: the players understand that this is a big step for
- 1:29Speaker 5: them to keep stepping up and winning their their divisions,
- 1:32Speaker 5: because guess what, He's not going anywhere anytime soon.
- 1:35Speaker 2: A Jay under Pat Murphy's tutelage the Brewers one ninety
- 1:38Speaker 2: and one thirty four. He's a baseball rat, a grinder
- 1:42Speaker 2: kind of guy. Old school mentality obviously came up of
- 1:45Speaker 2: course in the college ranks with ASU and Notre Dame.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I believe, and these guys just like to be around him,
- 1:51Speaker 2: and the Brewers have rewarded him for it.
- 1:54Speaker 6: Yeah, and if had success back to back manager of
- 1:56Speaker 6: the Year, back to back ALE Central titles. They won
- 1:59Speaker 6: the most games baseball last year with a team that
- 2:01Speaker 6: many people didn't think was going to do a whole
- 2:03Speaker 6: lot except.
- 2:04Speaker 1: For Eric Kratz.
- 2:07Speaker 6: Yeah, he's great to talk to. He's engaging when you
- 2:11Speaker 6: talk to him. He's intelligent when you talk to him.
- 2:13Speaker 6: He's also funny when you talk to him. He's sarcastic
- 2:17Speaker 6: at times, but he knows how to communicate with people,
- 2:20Speaker 6: and he knows how to connect with people. And I
- 2:21Speaker 6: think that's what being a big league manager is all about.
- 2:24Speaker 6: And he has his thing and he has a way
- 2:27Speaker 6: that he wants this team to play. And the Brewers
- 2:29Speaker 6: give Matt Arnold and the Brewers' front office a huge
- 2:33Speaker 6: pat on the back. Also, they have molded this team
- 2:35Speaker 6: into a team that Pat Murphy wants. It's not just
- 2:38Speaker 6: let's go slug, let's go hit homers. Murphy's about small
- 2:40Speaker 6: ball times and they do hit home runs, but he
- 2:42Speaker 6: wants to take the extra base. Played great defense, pitch
- 2:45Speaker 6: really well. And I said this last year when we
- 2:49Speaker 6: talked about it a lot. The Brewers almost shocked you
- 2:51Speaker 6: the way they played because when he went in there
- 2:52Speaker 6: for a three game series and they swept the Dodgers
- 2:54Speaker 6: for the whole year, right, but the Dodgers got him
- 2:57Speaker 6: the postseason. But they had a way of because it
- 3:01Speaker 6: was so different than what so many other teams did,
- 3:03Speaker 6: where they bunt and they'd hit run and they'd steal bases,
- 3:05Speaker 6: they'd take the extra base. They just put so much
- 3:07Speaker 6: pressure on all the other teams. Teams weren't used to it,
- 3:10Speaker 6: and for those three games, it just whoa. When you're
- 3:12Speaker 6: in the middle middle of a long twenty you say
- 3:14Speaker 6: your twenty games twenty days, and in the middle of
- 3:16Speaker 6: that is three games of the Brewers and you're not
- 3:19Speaker 6: ready for it. It's shock teams, and good for them
- 3:21Speaker 6: for finding a different way to do it with obviously
- 3:23Speaker 6: not the highest payroll. But they always pitch, they always
- 3:25Speaker 6: play defense, they always run the bases, and they put
- 3:28Speaker 6: the ball in play.
- 3:28Speaker 1: They've been a good team.
- 3:29Speaker 2: And you never hear the Brewers complain about anything small
- 3:32Speaker 2: rod team, that type of thing.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Well, it doesn't seem like they.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Do, though.
- 3:35Speaker 2: They seem to be in the mix, certainly in the
- 3:38Speaker 2: hunt every single season in the National League Central and
- 3:41Speaker 2: have made it to the postseason more times than not
- 3:44Speaker 2: over the course of the last decade. And I tell
- 3:45Speaker 2: you what, Todd will talk about this in terms of
- 3:48Speaker 2: managerial salaries, there seems to be a new trend that
- 3:51Speaker 2: these guys are finally starting to make some actual coin.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Because of course you had Craig Counsel with then the
- 3:57Speaker 2: Brewers and obviously now with the Cubs. The Cubs given
- 3:59Speaker 2: him a five year, forty million dollar deal, so about
- 4:02Speaker 2: an eight million dollar average value in terms of that salary.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Dave Roberts, of course, recently March of twenty twenty five,
- 4:08Speaker 2: that new contract was for twenty twenty nine average slightly
- 4:11Speaker 2: over eight million for Roberts. Of course, the manager of
- 4:14Speaker 2: the Dodgers, and then Alex Cora on a contract are
- 4:18Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven seven point three million, for a total
- 4:20Speaker 2: of twenty one point seventy five. So it seems like
- 4:24Speaker 2: the managers, the good ones anyway, are starting to be
- 4:29Speaker 2: paid as such.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Yeah, and I.
- 4:31Speaker 5: Think you're seeing a trend here a little bit too.
- 4:33Speaker 5: And I'm actually for it.
- 4:35Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 4:35Speaker 5: I would love to hear what AJ thinks, but for me,
- 4:37Speaker 5: they're ex players. These guys played the game, they understand
- 4:41Speaker 5: the game. They're going to know how to control the
- 4:43Speaker 5: game too as well. I had a guy in Dusty
- 4:46Speaker 5: Baker who absolute gem of a guy, absolute gem of
- 4:49Speaker 5: a coach.
- 4:50Speaker 4: He understood, Hey, you know, Frise, we're gonna give you
- 4:52Speaker 4: a day off here, Mike, all right?
- 4:54Speaker 1: Cool?
- 4:54Speaker 4: Well, he knew it.
- 4:55Speaker 5: In my mind, it's like I want to play every game,
- 4:58Speaker 5: but he understands the grind and he understand And I
- 5:00Speaker 5: think these ex players, and you know now, managers coming
- 5:05Speaker 5: into the league here have a name for themselves not
- 5:07Speaker 5: only from playing, but now from managing. And I think
- 5:11Speaker 5: the more ex players we can get to manage it
- 5:13Speaker 5: better in my opinion.
- 5:16Speaker 6: Agreed, But Pat Murphy didn't play. Pat Murphy was a
- 5:18Speaker 6: football player. Does you know Pat Murphy played football.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Player?
- 5:23Speaker 1: I agree, man, I think players.
- 5:25Speaker 6: I think players give the best insight to the game
- 5:28Speaker 6: and understand the game better. And they got away from
- 5:31Speaker 6: that for a little while, and some organizations are still
- 5:33Speaker 6: away from that. And I have no problem if you
- 5:35Speaker 6: didn't play in the major leagues or have a nice
- 5:37Speaker 6: career that you can be a good manager.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I think you can.
- 5:40Speaker 6: It just gives you a little one extra notch of
- 5:42Speaker 6: credibility to players when you've done it, you did it
- 5:45Speaker 6: for a long time and you were a successful player.
- 5:48Speaker 1: It helps.
- 5:48Speaker 6: It just gives you a little bit more respect, a
- 5:51Speaker 6: little more cachet with the players. But I'm happy managers
- 5:54Speaker 6: who get getting paid more. Now they need to figure
- 5:56Speaker 6: out a way to pay coaches more, not only just
- 5:58Speaker 6: the managers, but all the coaches down because for people
- 6:01Speaker 6: inside the industry, they know that coaches don't get paid nothing.
- 6:04Speaker 1: They get paid they have the worst schedule, They have
- 6:05Speaker 1: the worst schedules. They have to be here, you know,
- 6:08Speaker 1: for seven o'clock game. They get here like some guys
- 6:10Speaker 1: get there like ten in the morning.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Are there talking to Chris Woodward yesterday, who obviously is
- 6:15Speaker 2: a base coach here for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and
- 6:17Speaker 2: we were talking about the fact he lives in Santa Monica.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I'm like, my god, that's so hard to get to
- 6:20Speaker 2: Dodger Stadium. He's like, I leave my house at ten am.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You know, they get their schedules are crazy, Their pay
- 6:26Speaker 2: is not good, and I would love to see them
- 6:30Speaker 2: get paid more as well. But you were talking, you
- 6:32Speaker 2: and Todd were talking about, you know, the fact that
- 6:34Speaker 2: major league coaches, major league managers the experience factor and
- 6:39Speaker 2: the respect factor. So does that mean in your opinion,
- 6:42Speaker 2: guys in Asia, I'll tee you up first on this.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Do you think Tony Vittello with the Giants will have
- 6:46Speaker 2: a tougher hill to climb because he wasn't a major
- 6:49Speaker 2: league player and he's coming from the college level.
- 6:51Speaker 1: No, no, no, again.
- 6:52Speaker 6: I don't think that you have to be a major
- 6:54Speaker 6: league player to be a good major league manager. There's
- 6:56Speaker 6: been people that have proven that. But I feel like
- 7:02Speaker 6: you just have a better understanding from day one of
- 7:04Speaker 6: what it takes. Now, Tony Vaitel is going to have
- 7:06Speaker 6: to be a quick learner about how the major leagues
- 7:09Speaker 6: work because he's never had to do one hundred and
- 7:10Speaker 6: sixty two games in one hundred and eighty days or
- 7:12Speaker 6: whatever it is, plus run a spring training, plus handle
- 7:15Speaker 6: guys going up and down, plus handle the front office,
- 7:18Speaker 6: plus handle a bullpen for that long, plus handle personalities
- 7:21Speaker 6: that long.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He's done it.
- 7:23Speaker 6: He's done it for fifty to sixty games, which is,
- 7:25Speaker 6: you know, a nice run. But Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday off, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 7:32Speaker 6: use the same pitchers on Friday, Saturday Sunday, use your
- 7:34Speaker 6: different guys in the midweek games. Whereas this is twenty
- 7:37Speaker 6: games of twenty days. How do I make sure the
- 7:39Speaker 6: bullpen's good? Now? He made some good hires in people,
- 7:41Speaker 6: But you can't. It doesn't mean you just can't be
- 7:45Speaker 6: a good manager. It just means again, there's just a
- 7:48Speaker 6: little extra respect from players when you talk to other players.
- 7:51Speaker 6: It's like, you know, reporters when they talk to other
- 7:53Speaker 6: reporters that are on the grind every day, Hey, I
- 7:55Speaker 6: know what you're going through well as a player, when
- 7:57Speaker 6: you look at guys and you say hey, I as
- 8:00Speaker 6: people you say hey, I know what you're going through
- 8:03Speaker 6: and you've been through it, so it just gives you
- 8:05Speaker 6: that it's not a big deal. It is now we're
- 8:08Speaker 6: making it into I should say.
- 8:10Speaker 5: And I think the biggest thing that probably in his
- 8:13Speaker 5: mind is expectations, so he's probably thinking of his mind,
- 8:17Speaker 5: I gotta do this, I got to make sure here,
- 8:18Speaker 5: I gotta do that, And hopefully that's not the only
- 8:21Speaker 5: thing he's thinking about. I would like for him to
- 8:23Speaker 5: come in be his own man, and come in and
- 8:25Speaker 5: be a manager and do what he does best. I
- 8:28Speaker 5: know a lot of things he did at Tennessee were awesome.
- 8:31Speaker 5: It's going to be a different type of atmosphere now,
- 8:34Speaker 5: you know, not the raw rack kind of stuff, which
- 8:36Speaker 5: I don't I don't mind it all. College baseball is
- 8:38Speaker 5: great with all that stuff, but he's got to understand
- 8:40Speaker 5: he's going to be with professionals and I think the
- 8:42Speaker 5: biggest thing in.
- 8:43Speaker 4: His mind maybe or our minds, is expectations.
- 8:47Speaker 5: So understand, you're gonna have to take the good with
- 8:49Speaker 5: the bed as a manager and ride that wave until
- 8:53Speaker 5: you know, you find they find a way to lose
- 8:54Speaker 5: a ballgame.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Todd, what's going to be the biggest thing for him
- 8:58Speaker 2: to realize quickly? Do you think might be one of
- 9:00Speaker 2: the bigger hurdles that he's going to have to transition from.
- 9:03Speaker 3: The baseball level. Obviously at a high level.
- 9:05Speaker 2: They won the National Championship, but to the big league
- 9:08Speaker 2: level of things are very different between these whitelines.
- 9:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's managing different ballplayers. You know, it's
- 9:16Speaker 5: gonna be hard to mold every single guy to what
- 9:20Speaker 5: you expect. And that's the part of those expectations I'm
- 9:22Speaker 5: talking about. You know, you got your big names, Let
- 9:24Speaker 5: those guys be Let them, you know, be the leaders
- 9:27Speaker 5: of the team, and just understand there's going to be
- 9:30Speaker 5: a lot of different things you can't control going out there,
- 9:33Speaker 5: but you can control, you know how what you want
- 9:35Speaker 5: out of your players. You know, you can control making
- 9:38Speaker 5: sure everybody's on time, doing their due diligence.
- 9:41Speaker 4: But at the same time, you're gonna have.
- 9:43Speaker 5: To take the good with the bad because it's going
- 9:45Speaker 5: to be a different type of managing. And you got
- 9:49Speaker 5: to understand not everybody is the same in the major leagues.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I also tell you he doesn't get to pick his
- 9:53Speaker 1: players here. He doesn't get to He.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Went out and recruited, right, He recruited thirty five guys
- 9:58Speaker 6: right nowadays, But Posey gets to pick them and they
- 10:01Speaker 6: who they draft. And there's players that were already there,
- 10:04Speaker 6: so you don't get to pick your players in there.
- 10:05Speaker 6: They can be there for Raffie Devers as a long
- 10:07Speaker 6: term contract, right, So he can't just say, oh, you
- 10:10Speaker 6: got to transfer. I don't like you, We'll go find
- 10:12Speaker 6: someone else. Doesn't work like that in the big leagues.
- 10:15Speaker 6: You can't just have always a new shuffle coming in.
- 10:18Speaker 6: So that's going to be fascinating. Plus the other thing
- 10:20Speaker 6: the other day, remember this, the where he corrected all
- 10:23Speaker 6: the media people after that.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You got it.
- 10:27Speaker 6: You need those guys on your side, right, And he
- 10:28Speaker 6: didn't really get on them, but he was just like hey,
- 10:30Speaker 6: first press conference, he's like, hey, I want to sit
- 10:32Speaker 6: down and explain, guys, you got this wrong, Tony.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Nobody's really nobody really cared that much.
- 10:39Speaker 2: He's certainly not used to having to address the media
- 10:42Speaker 2: twice a day. I mean, that's something that's very different.
- 10:44Speaker 2: No other sport does that, except for baseball, where the
- 10:47Speaker 2: manager has to address the team twice a day. Oftentimes
- 10:58Speaker 2: it is said that they will have to rip the
- 11:01Speaker 2: jersey off of your back before you, guys are ready
- 11:04Speaker 2: to give it up. Freddy Freeman kind of has a
- 11:06Speaker 2: timeline Fobby and Ardaia, who writes for the Athletic Covers
- 11:10Speaker 2: the Dodgers. Freeman again today floated the idea of playing
- 11:13Speaker 2: four more years, which would lead him to retired at
- 11:16Speaker 2: age forty after twenty big league seasons. He said this
- 11:19Speaker 2: yesterday during his press conference. Didn't want to open a
- 11:22Speaker 2: campaign for another contract. He's signed through twenty twenty seven,
- 11:26Speaker 2: but added he would like for it to come in
- 11:28Speaker 2: Los Angeles, so aj he has a two more years
- 11:32Speaker 2: left on his deal here and then, of course he
- 11:35Speaker 2: did that say that yesterday. He was not going to
- 11:37Speaker 2: talk about a new contract and want to talk about
- 11:39Speaker 2: an extension as of yet, but he would like to
- 11:43Speaker 2: finish his career guys, as a Los Angeles Dodger.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Do you think that happens.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I hope it does.
- 11:48Speaker 6: But then Alana comes to the real question Hall of Famers,
- 11:52Speaker 6: does a Dodge, Dodger or Brave.
- 11:54Speaker 3: He goes in as a Dodger.
- 11:55Speaker 1: He won a World Series in Atlanta, has.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Two with La, and he's going to have.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Such hard he's gonna have two more before he so
- 12:02Speaker 1: in the next two years, he's gonna win two more.
- 12:04Speaker 2: He's gonna be here for another four. I do believe
- 12:06Speaker 2: they will sign him to another contract to finish his
- 12:09Speaker 2: career here.
- 12:10Speaker 1: If he gets four, then yes, he definitely goes in.
- 12:12Speaker 2: He's going in as I don't think he goes in
- 12:15Speaker 2: as a Brave because the Braves didn't bring him back.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 12:17Speaker 6: I also remember playing with him with the Braves, and
- 12:20Speaker 6: all he wanted and all he ever said was I
- 12:22Speaker 6: just want to win a World Series like you've done.
- 12:24Speaker 1: And now he's got three.
- 12:24Speaker 6: So Freddie, I don't feel sorry for you at all,
- 12:26Speaker 6: So don't give you that anymore.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I really believe he goes in as a door.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Okay, that's fair.
- 12:30Speaker 6: I mean, if you know, he's got a chance to
- 12:31Speaker 6: get to three thousand hits and he's gonna play until
- 12:36Speaker 6: he's forty one. Minute ttil I was. I mean I
- 12:38Speaker 6: was turning forty in the offseason that year. So good
- 12:40Speaker 6: for Freddy Man. If he can do this and keep
- 12:42Speaker 6: playing at the level he's done as long as he
- 12:45Speaker 6: stays healthy. His family wants him to do it. He
- 12:47Speaker 6: lives right there in California. He's he's from right there
- 12:51Speaker 6: in California. He loves it in California. So good for you, Freddy.
- 12:55Speaker 6: If you can do this, go get him.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Buddy and Todd.
- 12:57Speaker 2: He said yesterday during the press conference that he was
- 13:00Speaker 2: very irked that his batting average last season did not
- 13:03Speaker 2: start with a three. And he said, and I asked him,
- 13:06Speaker 2: how irked were you? And he said that it really
- 13:09Speaker 2: bothered him because if he's hitting three hundred, it means
- 13:12Speaker 2: he's getting on base, it means he's driving his teammates in.
- 13:16Speaker 2: And while we may not pay a lot of attention
- 13:18Speaker 2: or put a lot of value in batting average anymore,
- 13:21Speaker 2: it matters to him. So an opportunity for him to
- 13:23Speaker 2: have a kind of a comeback year. Obviously he was
- 13:25Speaker 2: very banged up last year, so comeback season offensively for him.
- 13:30Speaker 3: And he's still chasing three thousand hits.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yeah, and now before I go on, I want to
- 13:35Speaker 4: go back to that forty comment.
- 13:36Speaker 5: I just turned forty. I can't see myself playing more
- 13:39Speaker 5: than a week and any I don't know how these
- 13:43Speaker 5: guys do it. I mean a week might be pushing
- 13:46Speaker 5: it because I know the next day I'm going to
- 13:48Speaker 5: be in trouble.
- 13:48Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean I love that about him. It
- 13:51Speaker 4: did irk him.
- 13:52Speaker 5: I think anybody would take what he has done, even
- 13:55Speaker 5: when he's injured. I never batted over three hundred. I
- 13:58Speaker 5: think two seventy three was the highest I ever did.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Guys don't understand average with guys that are older, are big,
- 14:05Speaker 5: are key. I still think it's something that needs to
- 14:07Speaker 5: be blown up a little bit more. I believe if
- 14:10Speaker 5: you have a good batting average, what does that mean.
- 14:12Speaker 5: For one, you're getting on base, for do you're helping
- 14:14Speaker 5: your team out? And for three, power numbers are probably
- 14:17Speaker 5: in there too, so for most people. So for that
- 14:20Speaker 5: love that about him. I hope he gets over three
- 14:23Speaker 5: hundred next year. I hope he stays healthy. He's great
- 14:25Speaker 5: for the game. I would love to see him play
- 14:27Speaker 5: until he's forty. I think that would be fantastic, And
- 14:30Speaker 5: I don't think he's gonna slow down man. He's big
- 14:33Speaker 5: in stature, he works hard, his swing is beautiful. Everything
- 14:37Speaker 5: about him, you know, maybe the defense a little bit,
- 14:39Speaker 5: But I just think the way he goes and if
- 14:41Speaker 5: he stays healthy, he's going to be pretty good for
- 14:43Speaker 5: a couple more years.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Todd, do you think he finishes his career as a Dodger?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Do you think the Dodgers, you know, find a way
- 14:51Speaker 2: to give him those extra two years so he can
- 14:53Speaker 2: finish his career here.
- 14:55Speaker 5: I do, just on the fact they brought Clayton Kershaw back.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I think it's one of those things where they if
- 15:01Speaker 5: you produce and you have fun, and fans love you
- 15:03Speaker 5: and the brass likes you, which we've seen, I think ultimately,
- 15:07Speaker 5: why wouldn't you bring him out. He's a team guy,
- 15:09Speaker 5: he's a leader, and you don't see that aj. You
- 15:12Speaker 5: don't see that too often anymore either. Clubs don't like
- 15:15Speaker 5: the older guys around. They want this young crop coming
- 15:18Speaker 5: up and age and Freddie will teach these young kids
- 15:21Speaker 5: the rights and wrongs and everything else that goes unseen
- 15:25Speaker 5: during baseball season.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 15:27Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 15:30Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 15:31Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 15:35Speaker 2: We will start the segment with a comment Todd, and
- 15:38Speaker 2: I will defer to you since you are a Yankee lover.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Jazz Chisholm says that he is going to be the
- 15:44Speaker 2: next member of the fifty to fifty club. And for
- 15:47Speaker 2: those that don't know what that is, that's fifty stolen
- 15:49Speaker 2: bases as well as fifty home runs, a club that
- 15:51Speaker 2: Shoheo Tani invented. Okay, I love the confidence. I love that,
- 15:56Speaker 2: But Todd, he weighs about fourteen pounds. I'm not certain
- 16:00Speaker 2: that Jazz is going to be the guy to get
- 16:02Speaker 2: fifty to fifty.
- 16:03Speaker 3: What say you?
- 16:04Speaker 5: I can't believe you said that. That's incredible. Yeah, you're
- 16:08Speaker 5: you're a woman of your word. Listen, he HiT's fifty
- 16:13Speaker 5: to fifty. That'd be awesome.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Man. I I love jazz Chishlm. I do love jazz Chishlm.
- 16:18Speaker 5: This is so hard to do, though, Jazz getting thirty
- 16:22Speaker 5: thirty would be absolutely incredible.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Sky's the limit for the guy, but it is.
- 16:28Speaker 5: Listen, it's gonna be very hard to reach for anybody,
- 16:31Speaker 5: So not just Jazz, but for anybody in baseball right now,
- 16:35Speaker 5: it's gonna be very hard to do. I always like
- 16:38Speaker 5: to set my goals high, but that is really really
- 16:42Speaker 5: high set right there for the big dog and I
- 16:45Speaker 5: we'll see.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Make thirty thirty last year. He did make thirty thirty.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He didn go thirty thirty last year, thirty one. That
- 16:51Speaker 1: was his career high.
- 16:52Speaker 6: That was his career high in Homer's and he did
- 16:55Speaker 6: have forty stolen bases one year. So he's gonna have
- 16:58Speaker 6: to make a huge jump from thirty.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Nineteen ninety homers.
- 17:02Speaker 6: I mean, he's got a career, He's got a one
- 17:03Speaker 6: hundred and eight career homers. So for him to hit fifty,
- 17:06Speaker 6: he almost I mean he's half of almost half of
- 17:08Speaker 6: his whole career total.
- 17:09Speaker 1: So that's a huge jump. And the fifty careers sould
- 17:11Speaker 1: I hope he does.
- 17:12Speaker 4: I hope he does.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I mean I hope he does too.
- 17:14Speaker 6: That would be that would be incredible. I just don't
- 17:17Speaker 6: know that it's gonna happen.
- 17:18Speaker 3: I just I mean, that's a lot of goal. I
- 17:20Speaker 3: love the confidence, though.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I mean you want.
- 17:22Speaker 6: I also thought I was going to hit sixty and
- 17:24Speaker 6: steal sixty bases one year, but it didn't happen, Todd,
- 17:27Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Maybe it was because they wouldn't give me the green
- 17:29Speaker 1: light to steal the bases, so I lost my confidence
- 17:31Speaker 1: for the sixty homers.
- 17:34Speaker 3: You really think you're gonna steal sixty back?
- 17:36Speaker 1: No, no, a lot. That's kind of my point. But
- 17:39Speaker 1: like Todd said, I like to set my goals high.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Just because they don't come true doesn't mean I can't
- 17:42Speaker 6: make him come up, make him high.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Jazz is one for one today in the spring.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So was it a homer?
- 17:50Speaker 4: No?
- 17:50Speaker 5: No, it's zero zero in the sixth inning, so we
- 17:53Speaker 5: had to get some runs on the board there. But
- 17:57Speaker 5: listen to button this up. I love its confidence. I
- 18:00Speaker 5: love where he's at. This is only a good sign
- 18:02Speaker 5: for the Yankees. Be confident, be under control with what
- 18:05Speaker 5: you say. Jazz, take off, big dog. That would be
- 18:08Speaker 5: awesome for Yankee baseball, all right.
- 18:10Speaker 2: He also said that if Robot umpires were behind the
- 18:13Speaker 2: plate and all calls were correct, he probably.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Have ninety to one hundred walks this season.
- 18:19Speaker 6: So but that's less times you swing, so therefore that's
- 18:22Speaker 6: less homers that you can hit. So there goes the
- 18:24Speaker 6: fifty homers. Yeah, you're walking. That's Barry Buns. When they
- 18:27Speaker 6: started walking him two hundred and fifty times as homers went.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Yeah, he's saying he has a good knack for his
- 18:34Speaker 5: own The best knack for his own person I've ever
- 18:37Speaker 5: seen was Joeyvado playing. Just from playing with him, ball
- 18:40Speaker 5: would be like that far off and all of a
- 18:42Speaker 5: sudden like boom ball and he would get the call.
- 18:44Speaker 5: I wouldn't get those calls. So yeah, good dude. Listen,
- 18:49Speaker 5: this dude breeds confidence. And if you're a Yankee fan,
- 18:52Speaker 5: you love every second of this. You hope he does this.
- 18:55Speaker 5: He stays healthy and he goes out there and dominates.
- 18:58Speaker 5: I'm not saying he can't hit ten homers in a
- 19:00Speaker 5: you never know what can happen. But again, thirty thirty,
- 19:03Speaker 5: what he did last year is incredible. Let's get to
- 19:05Speaker 5: thirty five thirty five and then keep mentioning our way up.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You want the confidence and you can get away with
- 19:11Speaker 2: that type of confidence if you produce though, Right.
- 19:14Speaker 6: He's just gonna jump from thirty thirty to fifty to
- 19:16Speaker 6: fifty skip forty forty.
- 19:17Speaker 1: He's just gonna jump. He's just not good for him, man,
- 19:20Speaker 1: I hope he does it.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Do you know what asually, skip, here's what the you
- 19:24Speaker 2: have to hit forty before you get.
- 19:26Speaker 6: But what if he hits fifty homers, it's going to
- 19:28Speaker 6: be fifty forty. See, so you never do forty four, Clona,
- 19:31Speaker 6: you're ruining the story. But I hope he does it
- 19:33Speaker 6: because if he does it, guess what he could give
- 19:35Speaker 6: his own teammate, Aaron Judge a run for his money
- 19:37Speaker 6: for MVP.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Then what would we do.
- 19:42Speaker 3: It's gonna go to Judge. Probably, Okay, I'm gonna Judge, probably.
- 19:47Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Brutal injury update for the guys with the Baltimore Orioles guys,
- 19:51Speaker 2: assuming he responds to treatment. We're talking about Westburg, it'll
- 19:55Speaker 2: be interesting to see where he plays second or third.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Given the nature of his injury.
- 19:59Speaker 2: It looks like he has a part Marsehall tear of
- 20:01Speaker 2: the UCL in the right elbow. Buster only tweeting this
- 20:05Speaker 2: out and Jake Real as well. He's gonna be getting
- 20:08Speaker 2: a PRP injection today per Orioles player but President of
- 20:13Speaker 2: Baseball Operations that's the POBO GM, Michael Lias. Westburg will
- 20:17Speaker 2: be out for all of April. Timeline is TBD after that,
- 20:21Speaker 2: So let's first of all discuss what a PRP is, Todd.
- 20:24Speaker 2: This is something have you had it in your career
- 20:27Speaker 2: and explain to folks at home what a PRP is
- 20:30Speaker 2: that injection.
- 20:31Speaker 5: And let me explain. I'm not a doctor, for one,
- 20:33Speaker 5: but for two. When I had it, I had a
- 20:36Speaker 5: PRP injection. So they took blood out of my hip.
- 20:40Speaker 5: So when I was in Cincinnati or I forget where
- 20:42Speaker 5: I was, I forget what t was on, they took
- 20:44Speaker 5: blood out of my hip and put it actually into
- 20:48Speaker 5: my hand. I had a hand problem at the time.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Really good doctors over there, my man, Luigi, I appreciate you.
- 20:58Speaker 4: And they mix it.
- 21:00Speaker 5: They take the blood, they put it in this little
- 21:02Speaker 5: cylinder thing, mix it around for a long time. They
- 21:05Speaker 5: want to get all that blood moved around. I don't
- 21:09Speaker 5: know what the specifics of it were, but it's new
- 21:12Speaker 5: blood that forms that they put into the spot that's hurt,
- 21:15Speaker 5: and that's supposed to help, you know, calm down and
- 21:18Speaker 5: make it better and make it stronger, faster, and very painful,
- 21:23Speaker 5: very painful for.
- 21:24Speaker 4: About you know, five to seven days.
- 21:26Speaker 5: I could put my hand in any position you want
- 21:29Speaker 5: while I was sleeping, and it was pain everywhere.
- 21:31Speaker 4: And that was it.
- 21:33Speaker 5: You know, you can use PRP in any parts of
- 21:35Speaker 5: your body wherever it's hurting. But again it's the procedure
- 21:39Speaker 5: wasn't painful, but afterwards it took a little while for
- 21:42Speaker 5: that to subside.
- 21:43Speaker 4: And it's just your own blood.
- 21:45Speaker 5: They say, your own blood is better than anything in
- 21:47Speaker 5: the world that can help you out with ailments for sure.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Apparently it's concentrated to contain a high number of platelets,
- 21:54Speaker 2: growth factors, and proteins.
- 21:56Speaker 6: So most guys, especially elbow. The only one I've ever
- 21:59Speaker 6: heard that's ever done this was Yama Mo or not
- 22:02Speaker 6: Tanaka with the Yankees, right that needed Tommy John towards
- 22:06Speaker 6: UCL and did the PRP and came back And probably yeah, right,
- 22:11Speaker 6: that I know about, because those guys, even in the UCL,
- 22:13Speaker 6: when they have the p r P, they still eventually
- 22:15Speaker 6: have to get the surgery done the surgery done, so
- 22:17Speaker 6: maybe this might be a short term fix.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:20Speaker 2: That's the thing though, I mean, why why rip the
- 22:23Speaker 2: b why just have it as a band aid?
- 22:24Speaker 6: I mean, well, because they figure if they can do
- 22:26Speaker 6: pr PRP and get him back in a month or
- 22:29Speaker 6: two months, it's better than HI because if he has
- 22:31Speaker 6: Tommy John's gonna miss the whole season.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I guess Bryce did it? Didn't Bryce do it? Not
- 22:34Speaker 1: have the he got through the season surgery? He never
- 22:37Speaker 1: had the surgery.
- 22:39Speaker 3: I don't know. Fact check us on that. I don't.
- 22:40Speaker 3: I don't think Bryce he did PRP.
- 22:43Speaker 6: He missed one week DH the rest of the season,
- 22:45Speaker 6: and then he got Tommy John in the off season.
- 22:47Speaker 3: What does this mean?
- 22:48Speaker 6: But Bryce also moved to first base and played DH.
- 22:51Speaker 6: Jordan Westburg is a third baseman, second baseman, shortsw what
- 22:54Speaker 6: utility guy? Right, So and there he had to throw,
- 22:56Speaker 6: He's gonna have to throw. And their DH is Mount
- 22:59Speaker 6: Castle or a lot And they now.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Don't have Jackson Holiday to start the season. And now
- 23:03Speaker 2: they don't have Jordan Westburg to start the season. So
- 23:05Speaker 2: what does this mean short term?
- 23:07Speaker 3: I guess for the O's they.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Need a third base. I don't know. I don't know.
- 23:13Speaker 5: Somebody need to step up. They had all those prospects,
- 23:16Speaker 5: you know what I mean. I was I was two
- 23:19Speaker 5: years ago. I was the guy that was bashing them.
- 23:21Speaker 5: Trade these guys away. Trade these guys away.
- 23:23Speaker 4: You're gonna get a lot of a lot of good.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Players in return. And they have a couple guys that
- 23:28Speaker 5: are producing, but a lot of them. You know, you
- 23:29Speaker 5: don't really hear about too much. And Mayo needs to
- 23:31Speaker 5: step up. Man, he has to step up this year.
- 23:34Speaker 5: But when you hear partial tear, it always worries me.
- 23:37Speaker 5: I don't care if it's partial, if it's zero point
- 23:39Speaker 5: one percent. Yeah, that's I've always believed in that. And again,
- 23:43Speaker 5: I hate to say that, but I'm not a doctor.
- 23:46Speaker 5: It would if somebody said, oh, you have a partial
- 23:49Speaker 5: ligament spasm or whatever you want it partial, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 5: knee separation, it's still a separation, and I don't know, man,
- 23:57Speaker 5: and this stuff might linger, it might linger, and it
- 23:59Speaker 5: could get you know, maybe they tell him, oh, it
- 24:01Speaker 5: can't get any worse.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Hopefully that that's the case, but I don't know.
- 24:05Speaker 2: See, that's my concern is, like, if they do it
- 24:07Speaker 2: as a band aid now just to get him back
- 24:08Speaker 2: in a month, what if it, you know, continues to
- 24:11Speaker 2: happen and then he still has to get the surgery,
- 24:13Speaker 2: let's say mid season, and then he's out additionally for
- 24:17Speaker 2: the year even further.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I agreed. I don't know. We'll see, we'll see
- 24:22Speaker 1: if he can do it.
- 24:22Speaker 6: But I mean, you know, Bryce Harper's the own who
- 24:24Speaker 6: did it, but he dh Westbrook's not going to be
- 24:26Speaker 6: their dh oh year.
- 24:27Speaker 1: So he's gonna have to throw. No, it's not that's
- 24:31Speaker 1: that's a major difference.
- 24:32Speaker 6: You have to he's gonna play third base probably, and
- 24:34Speaker 6: he's gonna have to throw across the diamond multiple times
- 24:37Speaker 6: a game.
- 24:38Speaker 1: You can't hide a third baseman.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I know it's it's a bummer.
- 24:42Speaker 1: But Todd, think about it.
- 24:43Speaker 6: If you played third and you had an army you
- 24:44Speaker 6: couldn't throw with how many times every team would bunt?
- 24:46Speaker 6: Every team would bunt. I mean, guys can well, but
- 24:49Speaker 6: he'd just be like, just bunt it to him. He's
- 24:51Speaker 6: gonna throw a couple of them away and not feel it,
- 24:52Speaker 6: you know, I don't know.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Some other news for the Oakland Athletics.
- 25:00Speaker 3: Timer.
- 25:00Speaker 2: When I think of Bob Melvin, guys, I think of
- 25:02Speaker 2: the Athletics, and he is going back to the club
- 25:05Speaker 2: as a as a special assistant, if you will. Obviously
- 25:08Speaker 2: he was the Giants manager for a time that didn't
- 25:11Speaker 2: work out very well. So Melvin back with the a's
- 25:15Speaker 2: right place.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a Bay Area guy. He vanaged the Giants
- 25:18Speaker 1: for a while.
- 25:19Speaker 6: Like you said, I remember him being with the Oakland
- 25:22Speaker 6: now Sacramento as and he's going to come back, and
- 25:24Speaker 6: Billy being and him care united, and they had good
- 25:25Speaker 6: teams of Bob Melvine's there, So I like this movie
