Transcript
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the 9-Renoise podcast part of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: They contribute here at 9-Renoise.com and here with me to celebrate the quarter poll of the season roughly, his fellow contributor, Mr. Oax has David Dula, Oax has, we're feeling good, man, 4-0.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: We're going great rocker and you know, it seems like you're win-possed like three players, but right now the team are working and maybe we get them back when we need them most so feeling good I mean, you know, we talked about the seasonist crudrons.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is an emphatic win.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Anytime you go undefeated, it's an emphatic win and like there notes.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be a challenge.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's that.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, probably.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: The negative.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: I can't put it on.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're like really, like, really happy with how the team has performed so far.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's really exciting.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Lots of good coming out of this one.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: It was probably like the most gutsy wind of the season so far.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't pretty 24 to 14 over the Denver Broncos in their third straight home game,
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think this is not, like, even though it wasn't like the best showing overall, at least not from end to end, like we've seen in other games.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: Well, actually, to be fair, we haven't really seen an end to end game from this team yet, really, at least not in the full sense.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I think there's,
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: And we can sort of parse this out throughout the time.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_00]: There's a case to me, made that this is probably the most like together the offensive defense had been in one game where, and by that I mean like the offense didn't highly overperform, didn't just like blow the defense out of the water and vice versa.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean by like the 49ers on both ends of it, right?
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: And so it is kind of interesting in that regard.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to throw out some numbers here in a little bit, but I don't know, like, I think this is definitely the best defense that they've faced so far.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the, they did what they needed to do.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: And in the end, that's what, that's what good teams do is they blow out the teams that are supposed to beat.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: And they take care of business against,
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, so I'll echo the first thing you said.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is by far, I think the most complete when they've had.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, okay, the Ram's game is a fun out say.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Cause the most I felt like both sides were next therapy in the room, that they like everyone pulled their way in that way.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, week two, right?
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: And week three, you didn't think like the difference in the really needs to show up.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: And in fact, you can argue in week three, they didn't show up.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: So this like,
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: It felt insulting to add a lot of questions here.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, Sierra Niel, Ford Fumble, which is kind of weird, looking at but very exciting, right, that it turned out.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like every unit made a point.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: And like you said, that's what good teams do.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the best defense they played.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the injuries that the Broncos have in the game to start on there.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: changes ever so slightly.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: But still, I'm not to take a look at it.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: It was a phenomenal, it's a phenomenal defense that they did a really good.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: They did a good enough job against and when they needed to start clicking, they clicked, you know, we can quibble.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we want them to score like, I don't know, a thousand points or something and absolutely don't prepare time.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: But you know, it doesn't happen.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the sort of headline of this and in some ways is the fact that the 49ers have now made it through four full games without a sack being given up by the offensive line or through the magic of Brock Party.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_00]: You probably a little bit of both.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: And the 49ers are the only team of the last 20 years to not allow a sack throughout.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: the first four games of the season.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: That comes from PFF.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Dubo of the of the of the Associated Press adds another nugget related to this.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: 49ers have allowed no sacks and four straight games.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: The first time since 1965, that says a team, weeks 10 through 13.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: So just any four games span ever.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: like it's been that long.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: The only other teams since at least 1963 to allow zero sacks in first four games, the 2005 Colts with Peyton Manning, the 1989 Dolphins, 1984 Dolphins and the 1975 Cardinals, of course as Dolphins teams would have featured Gammerino, who was famously very good at getting the ball out quickly, true of Peyton Manning as well.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oxas, I would give you
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: a tighty some money if you could tell me who was playing quarterback for the 1975 cardinals.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I don't know you could do it, but got it got it anybody.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even want to guess.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think I can get that's not just full.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you think where the insane Lewis still bad.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's a real question.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: I just honestly do not know the answer to the question.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I mean, obviously this office of line is playing really well.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: And then we talked about just sort of the...
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: the well-roundedness of this performance.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: But I think it's kind of gone a little under the radar.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: So this nugget is from Doug Klossen from CBS Sports.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: He says the 49ers are allowing the lowest explosive play rate 3.5% by any team through four games since 2000.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: They've allowed only nine, 10 plus yard runs, and 20 plus yard catches this season.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: So nine, two, three, four, three, four.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: combined 10 plus yard runs and 20 yard plus yard catches.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, anecdotally, if you asked me, I would probably say they're all 10 plus yard runs, but I could tell you for sure, but I mean, that just kind of gives you an indication of even though it hasn't always looked pretty and this was true again on Sunday against the Broncos, it feels like this team is
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's right.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm going to have an ever so slightly by saying they haven't really played an explosive offense yet.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: And this sure.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they played one, one, this is, they played a one that is supposed to be one and did not live up to the bill.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: So just like, obviously, like, other rooms in Australia, right, like, look.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, I don't want to discount that that's a huge win, but I think it's worth like I don't want like we can't index on that too much the rams are They got a whole bunch of stuff going on out there.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: They really do have a But I mean that is that That's that They have a chance to offensively as much and that I think is even going to include the broncos as we'll get into right, but it is surprising
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: how they've been able to do that, because this is like the name of the game for NFL tonight.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one, right, is either going to back, you're going to dictate terms of the defense and to a block for us, essentially.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: Or you as a defense are going to essentially say, you don't get any explosives, and if you want to run a 17-play drive and score a touchdown,
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: go for it, right?
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you can do that more power to you, we're taking you every single second.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_01]: And that I think is very, that's like power, right?
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Because like offenses are going to make mistakes.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now the defense needs to capitalize when they do and that you get the turnovers, maybe there's a fall star or something in penalty.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: But like, if you can do that, I mean, you suffocate another team.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's what Seattle did last year.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: They suffated games.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I read it and looked that around.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: It really just looked like the owners.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: And that, the stats they're out like, they are suffocating other teams.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and even if, again, and as we saw like the Dolphins game was,
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: was much like the worst case scenario with that for the, for the opponent, where it's just like you feel free to march the ball on down the field.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: We don't think you have enough to do it for that long.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: And it proved time and time again in the Dolphins game where they just like milk will just kept, they kept getting little close, they got kind of close and then the defenses is just like all right, we're done.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: And the cardinals got were a little bit more successful with that, but then we saw to be fair, an example of a Broncos team that is
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: like not to be rude at this point, but at this point in the season, they look a lot closer to the dolphins offensively and they do the cardinals at this point, at least in the output that they're given.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, they don't, they, they're just, I don't, I don't, like, without being too declared.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're just, they're off, is that explosive?
- 9:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it's not manufacturing explosive.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're not, I don't know, I don't know why that is what that is, but it's interesting because the 49ers' offense, for example.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say,
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: most and if like the shinhand offense right like there's an explosive built into every play every single play has honestly for a close and that's the point right it's just the front goes the team just it and push the boundaries that way so I don't know like you make your the job easy for a defense right I mean the the car rules were throwing the ball down that were I mean they did a bit of both but you know
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: If you keep going too much, either you're gonna mess or they're gonna mess up.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I think you most defend this wall to have the opinion that, okay, we at least we think we can hold for a longer, like we can make enough plays.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: The foreigners have proved they can do that.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: And this is of course, you know, to speak about like the injuries as I quit earlier.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: You have your pleasure on the field and make those, or you're theoretically uncloser and go well.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you don't even have the guys who speed this entire process up.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: So it's incredibly impressive.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, the Broncos often, it took them a sec that then, I think they finally sort of, at the very end, it looks like they had a little bit going.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: But for the most, it's like, they're doing it, it's to melt the end of the game.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all right, so you alluded to it.
- 11:22[SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about the injury situation.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, this is not necessarily an injury-related situation because I think Kyle Shanahan said that he got through without any setbacks, despite what looked like the most uncomfortable I've ever seen, that he even being playing football looking.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And that Kudos to my get-in, Evans, got an out through whatever it was, had a big game.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: he was he was obviously very uncomfortable ended up with five catches for seventy six yards just missed out on a touchdown towards the end of the game but seems to make it through just find and sustain any further injury the boy did he look uncomfortable.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, he did that with me.
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: He's beast, right?
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, dealing with all that is incredible, but I mean, he looked like in pain every time he ran around.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: And the Broncos, you know, as they should.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: No one took it easy on him, right?
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he was getting smoked at time in the balls.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was a real gutty performance and necessary for the teams.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's easy, right?
- 12:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Evans is a leader.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, he's new to the team, but he sets a standard.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, he put it like that was in full display about what the 49ers are about.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: And for someone who's just joined the team, that's really impressive.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: Other injuries, pretty short list this week, actually.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Yusheck sustains what looked like a pretty nasty injury on the play.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was, I should say, not a very nice tackle, given Sean Payton's history.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: There was a lot of scuttle but about the nature of this tackle in Kyle Yusheck.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to speculate any further on on that.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't it.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: It was a little rough, let's just say that.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: But it looks like he sustains as about his little injury as possible.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: It ends up being a knee bruise, ligaments, and suffer intact, they're saying two to three weeks, which would basically mean, which really means like a month, if you think about it, because if he's going to miss three weeks, then that means the biweek will come in at the end of that.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: My guess is, that's when we'll see him, is after the biweek that they'll let him sit out these next three
- 13:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Seattle's out of the question.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: The commanders on Monday night, probably not.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_00]: And then, you know, artificial turf in Atlanta the week after that on a short week.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: I see, and flying across the country, probably not.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: And so I say, the likelyest outcome is that he sits out the next three games and then is ready to go after the by week.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Braden Willis was pretty good.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: In his stead, it's certainly,
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you're not worried about Braden Willis's a past catcher necessarily, which is ironic considering he actually is a tight end, but supposedly.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: So he does take a little of the element of, oh no, what's gonna happen when Kyle use checks on the field, which you don't have when Braden Willis's out there.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think as a blocker and as an athlete, I think he's more than adequate in that regard.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: So good that you check was able to get out with his little injury as possible, and hopefully he'll be ready to go soon.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Especially this banana shape motion where whoever's blocking sort of like curls back in the exact moment to like get an angle and sort of get a good block and use check was on it to a tea now if a little bit like.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: the broms were starting to pick up when that's happening and we're using that as cue for a run.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: Something I thought I know this, but who knows?
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I really think that like, like, it's a big injury, right?
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, your check is kind of a sinew for a lot of what the 49ers do.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Will I agree with your, like, takeaways, right?
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Willis is not the same caliber, or definitely the same caliber, which you get the abducted on.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: This was before that I've been doing all across the field, so just in that position where that's true.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, up and stout left the game with a shoulder injury did come back into the game he has an AC joint.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: Um, just kind of a day to day kind of a modern monitoring situation.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I think also pretty noticeable when he left the game, uh, which was a belief when the Broncos scored their, their late touchdown.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: that kind of made things a little bit interesting towards the end of the game in the fourth quarter was went out and sat was not on the field.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so hopefully he'll be good to go.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then the big injury of the week is Marquis Siegel, who suffered a high ankle sprain.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: He'll be out a couple of weeks as we know that's like a, you know, four to six week injury.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: No word yet on whether or not he'll go to IR as we've discussed already, there's not a lot of space for anybody to be on.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_00]: The injured reserve at the same time.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: You can't for much longer hold.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you only have what six six guys who can sit out the, or who can, who will sit out a game in active.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: And so you want to be able to utilize that as best you can.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: And so it'll be interesting to see what happens with Marky's Seagull.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: injured himself once and I don't remember if it I don't think it was an ankle the first time it came off for a little while came back into the game and then he heard himself on a on a kickoff return later in the game.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully he'll be okay.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then in positive news Michael Williams is back practicing has been practicing we kind of neglected to mention that earlier.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_00]: And looks to be on track to play against the Seattle Seahawks or something we'll talk about.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: later in the week, but man, that would be a just an absolute massive get for the 49ers at this point to start seeing players come back from injury as opposed to continuing to lose them week after week.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I mean, the fact that I can't be like a sore addition to the most decimated positions,
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's the feeling of reinforcements is huge and this team getting one right now.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, they, I don't think they feel this way, but they could, right?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: That they have what we're just for.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: So to speak.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now, it's like, okay, now our people are coming back now.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: We can finally take off.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: I can play a match and that's how they're feeling.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, Michael's a huge part of that that he's going to be here now.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's very exciting.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll help with keeping the run game down.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, apparently, according to the stats, the 49ers have done a phenomenal job today.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I did it, my even better given sort of all the interview was.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: So very excited.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, we looked good starting his, um, his NFL career.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: He was clearly developing, I think.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: So it's nice.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully he'll be able to just jump right back where he left off and keep it going.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was one of the things we talked about when he got hurt last year is when he was just starting to look, you know,
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: rounding into form, and he was really starting to look like a dominant player on that defensive line, and then it was like, it was him and Bosa in successive weeks, if I recall, or one or two weeks behind each other, it was very rough.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: Anything about Stout and Seagull for you?
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think does this not injury luckily is not, doesn't seem to be serious.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's big loss.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he is clearly a weapon for Rahimor's.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, that it was noticeable.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Jack Jones is a good depth corner back, but I think coming in like cold against difficult and bronch put a bit of that.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: See, Andrew is tough.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's playing all.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: Mosophas and plait phenomenal so they're you're a bit like it the 49ers can weather this but I mean it's it sucks for death He'd been playing well some question of whether or not he would really have been the starter of the staff have been healthy to start so I don't know I think it's a injury I think the one for your discernment stable and slow
- 19:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, I think that's, I think that's right.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_00]: Um, all right.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_00]: So let's, uh, let's go ahead and get into the game, uh, the win over the Bronx was a little bit more, uh, with our one up, one down section, uh, which as, uh, has always is where we talked about the game in a little bit more depth.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, we talked about things we like things we didn't like.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_00]: So oxas all start with you, uh, it'll be interesting to see what's actually take it.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: We never, we don't, we don't, we don't tell each other these things what we're going to say.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's really exciting in the moment to be like, oh, yeah, that's cool.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: So, actually, let's go and get a soft.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I think I'm going to quickly flag one thing that I said as we were like talking about the game to start.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm going to get it in force to sort of, obviously, the big big up for me was one of the huge gay plays was Sir on Meal's force form ball tackle on special teams.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I really want to flag this because we've talked about on this podcast for many years.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: The pitfalls of special teams with the 49ers, right?
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like it always seems to fail them whether it was kicking for a little bit turning.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_01]: Return is a weird, I don't know, it's still not there.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, no, but coverage wise.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: They have really figured it out on punts, especially.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, it was a huge, it changed the game.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like that is what won the game for the 49ers, really.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_01]: is getting that short field, letting the offense get into rhythm and then there are sort of tear bit.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that gives me a huge game, but I'm going to flag the 49ers ability to stop the run from
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: from the Broncos, right?
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: JK Dobbins 11 rushes 40 yards, 3.6 yards per carry, RJ Harvey 725, 3.6, Tyler Bady, 2.7, 3.5, but that's Tyler Bade, according to the bracket.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's my dad.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: But I just giggled every time I said it, I was like, really, that's the name, okay.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Continue.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that was like,
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, the bronchos didn't were not in great at running the ball necessarily, but they clearly had like a play with very nice and the first, so I think the offensive defensively run it.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: He played a really good game, right?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like Bo Nakes only completed 60-59% of his passes.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Got the ones touched down at the end, but really did not look comfortable the entire game.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: The leading receiver for the Broncos was their running back, RJ Harvey.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: It took her to his own defense.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: And so let her offense work through the coin page of okay, we're trying to figure out,
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're trying to get into rhythm against this defense.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's not working so great.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: It was the team effort in that way.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I think the running game, this was a sign of like, okay, they figured it out.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously at the end, I think the purpose started.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I can go more.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that time the game was a little like a sort of like a very noticeable end of game shift, really for the majority of the game before you manage to care business against the run, and that's what you need to do and you know, so look ahead, right, you're going to play Seattle, Seattle's going to want to run the ball.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: At the defense of special things, I think really Joe, the strong performance will caveat a little because the Broncos offense looks a little disjointed, but like that, like, and that, like, this is the second those offense on paper they played.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_01]: So far, hey, hey, hey, hey, be the best of you just say it.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Australia doesn't have for anything.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: They held up, they,
- 23:44[SPEAKER_01]: they had up in spite of all the injuries that they had.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's very impressive.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's correct.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't even really talk about the Broncos run game and the lead up to this, because I'd not sure that that was anything.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, really, we talked about the offense.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_00]: In that it's just like streaky and underperforming.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: And we didn't even really discuss the offense of the running game at all.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I think based on this performance, we have a reason to understand why.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_00]: If you take away a bow next is two carries for ten yards.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: They're at like what three and just just over a little over three and a half yards per carry as a team.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Not not going to get it done.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: So good showing from a four-anners defense that has been much maligned.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: You could take that a little bit further and talk about other parts of the of the defense.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mentioned something about it a little bit later.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, that continues to be like an annoyance, so when we get to the down, we'll get into that.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, my up, mentioned the offensive line before they've been off to a great start.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Um, also starting, uh, the, the run game wasn't as successful as we were hoping, but they were still right at four yards for carry.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay, um, they, it wasn't, like, I mean, a lot of it was, uh,
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: produce.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of the production came from a certain name I'm going to mention here in a second.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: But often I think the offensive line is playing really well and and showing up as we talked about.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: But two names that I want to mention, one offense, one defense, first is depostamial.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: who basically was kind of single-handedly keeping the 49ers afloat in the first half.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: Because it wasn't a good deal.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't not a good offensive showing from the 49ers in the first half.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: And they were down three to nothing right up until towards the end of the first half.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: They had a chance to take the lead going into this going.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: into the into half time, kick got blocked, but Devo Samuel, three carries for 44 yards, five catches for 26 yards and a touchdown that kind of opened things up for the 49ers.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: So the numbers are not terribly gaudy, but he just looked so comfortable having the ball back in his hands and gosh, I was weak.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about this when he came back, we're like, oh, you know, if they can get like,
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: 70% of the of the debo that they had back in 2019 or whatever, then they'll be in good shape.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean like he's not the the the volume is not there, but when he does get the ball in his hands, it kind of looks like gold vintage debo to me.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then the other name is Dr. Yeah.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, sorry.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: The other name is drink drinker and a drinker and I was playing like his hair was on fire and he might have had a little extra incentive because apparently he he did not leave Denver on good terms.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure that anybody was aware of that.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_00]: But based on some things that he said after the game.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_00]: kind of seems like the the Broncos kind of unceremoniously dumped him at the end of the season.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of mad at Sean Peyton because Sean Peyton in his words did not have the did not give him the decency of calling him up as the head coach and saying hey we're going to let you go.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: He got he heard from
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: from his, from other sources and wasn't thrilled about that, so he was kind of, you know, not particularly happy with the Sean Payton as a human being.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, 12 tackles, 7 solo, just like it was everywhere and it's, it's good to have them back.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_00]: Good to have both those guys back, but I thought they were both important in their own ways.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm totally agreeing with both of them.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Google app, he was the dude, right?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the defense needed Jews, Fred Warner, seemed to be, I think he had stomach cramps.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, he would tell, like, he wasn't 100%.
- 27:45[SPEAKER_01]: So in that way, having the, like, just being on, like, well, we'll have to care for the game of the river as we speak.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: David, I mean, it,
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: We said 70%, he's probably at like 90%, right?
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like the volume is not there.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: And like they're time, it's a little bit of like, okay, you can't like, it's not a guaranteed, like first down, like it was in 2021 or would.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, he's exactly the part of the team.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: He bears well with my guidance, right?
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's a real different.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I mean, this respect room has been built in like a very unique way.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: Every receiver, if they were all healthy.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's very different.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like they all have a different role, right?
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: They all do something uniquely.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Dbo has been a phenomenal tip to that path.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, at things make the heart fun, right?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: They are, I think both players can hurt came back hungry, healthy, and like ready to show who they are and the 49ers have been the great recipients of it.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think as we said in the off season, when he came back, he doesn't,
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: Deba doesn't need to be the guy that he was in 2021 where he'd basically carried that team into the playoffs and beyond, like, that's, they don't need that for him.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: What they need is for that guy to show up when he's called upon.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: So if that guy has, like, shows up, then,
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: In the, he's not going to get the touches that he got then or anything like that, but if he shows up when when his numbers called, then I think, especially as the the pieces around him start to solidify a little bit more, it's just, it's just like another another tool in the toolbox for a couch and end to be like, all right, well, we need this right now, like what's the best way to get this, okay, we could do this, we could do that and it's just like gives him.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: so many choices and options and things that he doesn't has not often had let's be fair during his time here with the 49ers and it just kind of like makes his life a little bit easier I think.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: it's what you like he is deep out was a weapon right now and he's a weapon who isn't the only weapon that that makes sense yeah unlike in 2021 right like I mean if he he's like just third or fourth on now that's perfect that's actually what we want and so I mean before you know there's a bet fitting great look from having him around I mean he spells everyone he like he brings the juice I mean
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think he probably brings the juice even beyond what we're seeing on the field, just like the way he is in the room.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: But he, like, absolutely, is the juice in the field.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like he has wagon.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's there.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: I have 40 minutes walk out of here.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: About, right.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Look.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: They know they're good.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: They know they're good.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's infectious.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: And, like, for the team, right?
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: You can, like, they feed off it.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: They feed off that energy.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so, they're real culture centers.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: They help that would be a real culture way to win and they're backing due to all over.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you just have to not fumble the ball anymore.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, two of them on Sunday or both of which were recovered.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 31:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he saw he had got to have a seat.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: This is a kicker turner for, I think it was just once, right?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: They just benched him for one kick off and it didn't really go particularly well and they're like, all right, fine.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, just hold on to the ball there, Diva.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's the toy we need you to do.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: And, um, Drake just don't don't beat anybody up.
- 31:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's not on the football field, okay?
- 31:40[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_01]: Vice.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: True.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_00]: For sure.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go ahead and get into our down section for the week.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oxiaz will start with you.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think, you know, you touched on it a little bit.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that like.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers run game in particular didn't really excite me all that much, you know, we're looking at other than Debo, less than like three and a half yards of carry.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Debo is a huge part of it, right?
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, this was something we thought the 49ers would have a chance to exploit and they did not do it at all.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I think like a fed into the offense overall, they failed to really sort of keep drives going,
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot of three out.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: It was just offensively, it wasn't cohesive.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, the brokers are the best defense they played, but you want them to step up more.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: But the running game is really the concern.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Kailon Black, 613, 2.2.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: Brock pretty 10 rush is 29.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: You are a team and that's way too many rushes and not enough yards so you're gonna rush that much.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: You got half of those.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: on one run.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: So that kind of tells a lot of cuby sneaks, but just really not explosive in the run game at all.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, that there wasn't balance the way there happened.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's balance in terms of the number of rushes, right?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers ran the ball more than they passed it.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at the attempts, but there wasn't balance in terms of how they, um, like how successful they were in either way.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, uh,
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the Broncos defense changed because of the injuries, but the running game is a real concern, I think.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: Even though the offensive line played well, they just like there's just it's not they're not getting that same push they need all the time and the holes are clogged.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what it is, but.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: That was a bit frustrating to see because I think the passing game was fine, and that wasn't amazing.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: It was good.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: They got buoyed by like a couple of huge plays, George Kittles touchdown on the screen among them.
- 33:56[SPEAKER_01]: But like I thought the running game was ineffective and it cost a team, right?
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't convert out a couple of fourths down, they got lucky on one, they couldn't convert on third downs, like they just they couldn't dictate the pace as well as they needed to and they just got lucky that the Broncos couldn't do it either.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: uh yes uh hmm so you mentioned the fourth down kiwi sneak that failed uh in the first or in this early in the second quarter uh those runs also a factor in his two kneel downs at the end of the game which is stupid
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: like like take that out of rushing yards.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: What are we doing here?
- 34:34[SPEAKER_00]: So if you take those three attempts, which is three attempts for negative two yards for Brock Perti, that is still not great.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: Especially not for what we've seen from him.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_00]: So what's that?
- 34:50[SPEAKER_00]: That's seven for
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: 31 something like that yeah 7 for 31 was a little better but not not like what you want necessarily you don't want him to be your leading rusher anyway but still I think if you take away some of those those non good plays then or the two plays that should just be nixed from the whole mix anyway I think that there's it's a little better but I'm right there with you I mean the the run game
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: feels, I don't know, like it's weird because it doesn't feel as feudal futile as last year where last season just like it's just like they just couldn't run the ball and there was just absolutely no wins whatsoever I mean you remember that feeling I'm sure like it's just like uh like everything but
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: they haven't had a lot of negative plays so far this season that was one thing the broadcast mentioned that they've only had like like five negative runs all season not counting Neil downs and stuff and so it's not that that's not the problem it's just
- 35:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's nothing terribly positive.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: And then McAfrey broke when off for 14.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_00]: And Debo had one for 22, which was half of his yardage.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you mentioned Brock had one for 11, which is like a third of his total yardage.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: So it's different than last year, which just felt like, ugh, like this is the slog that's never going to happen, but it still feels...
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: not quite, not quite equally, like it's not happening, but but also somewhat the same, right?
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I think like, you know, it's better, right, but I think we have, you know, they might not want this, but we've gotten past better than last year already.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we want their higher standard, and that standard I'm not so sure is that if they're
- 36:53[SPEAKER_01]: They're meeting, right?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like is this is this a Superbowl calibre run-game?
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: No, not right now And it like it should be right because that's like what this team was predicated on so I mean Then lack of negatives is good.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_01]: Next obviously negatives are huge drive killer and so keeping on schedule a little bit as good But I mean Do you trust this team to like get three yards if they need it?
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not so sure.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: I do
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: No, not yet.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I saw some people speculating that the fact that they don't have, that there's not a lot of fear from defenses of the wider seaver group.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so they can still kind of key in, very similar to last year, where there was just, like,
- 37:40[SPEAKER_00]: who these guys like.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's not so much that this year and I tend to wonder that as the wider seaver group gets healthier and they start to get to a point where the defosing defenses are going to go, oh okay well I guess we got to pay attention to this that maybe they'll be able to lock lessen on the on the run game and maybe that will help free things some stuff up.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, so like I kind of alluded to.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm wondering if, you know, there's been much probably about these motions that the foreign owners are doing.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if you teams are starting to key in on those a little bit more.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh, when Kyle used to check, or now, or like, braid willus comes in motion in a certain way, it's a wrong.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Cause I mean, Talino, who Fonga was like reading runs the entire game.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's just, I mean, that's what he does.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's why he gets paid the big ball.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I mean, he was right most of time.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: Right, so I'm kind of wondering, okay, maybe there's something like, there's a tell they have to.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: The Broncos knew every time they were going to run the ball.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it could be.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so hopefully the coaching staff will be able to figure that out.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_00]: So my down somewhat related to that, the offense kind of got off to a slow start.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_00]: that let me just let me give you Brock perdi second half just to kind of give you an indication of how slow this the start was so in the second half Brock perdi was nine for ten for hundred twenty nine yards and two touchdowns.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_00]: His total game nineteen of thirty two hundred and eighteen yards and two touchdowns which means that he was what ten of
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: 20 in the first half for under a hundred yards.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: If my math is correct, and no touchdowns in the first half.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then the second half, he was much better as I just alluded to.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: So like I know this is a down section.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: But I also have to kind of give props to I feel like Brock party of a couple of years ago might have folded a little bit under the like this isn't working like I'm the pressure like not that not the pressure but like he would have getting a little frustrated.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like the Brock party of a couple years ago might have thrown an interception or two against this defense just because.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_00]: things weren't going well and he might have in that gunslinger in him that's that's deep that's inside of him would have tried to come out.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I just thought he did a good job even as the as the team was as the offense was moving slowly of just kind of waiting it out he didn't put too much pressure on things.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_00]: He clearly was on a different page than some of his receivers.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think of the first drive and the third down play that Jacob Cowling very clearly went the wrong direction or the direction, a different direction from the one that pretty expected him to go and I would generally default to the quarterback in terms of like having the right way on that.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: especially considering Cowling is just not played that much.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: So again, it was a slow start, but I'm sort of veiling a, like, hey, Brock parties may be getting better, a compliment inside of this down kind of thing.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's, I have one other thing, but I just wanted to throw that out there.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: So it's not great that they got off to a poor start, not a bad start, but a poor start on offense, but taking into fact that,
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: the quality of the defense and you you like to see them being able to respond I guess is what this all comes down to.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, you know, part of it let me sort of alluded to is that the Broncos difference got worse with the injuries and that you'd be had something to do with it.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, they hung in the fight that if panic and they took care of business and that's an important skill that's not a skill that
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: Every team has this maybe not a skill that Brock Bertie had a couple years ago.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_01]: So the fact that he was able to do that because a really big deal for this team, because like I'm next week, a guarantee you next week should be a couple drives where they just look like they don't know what they're doing our offense, because that's just the way Seattle makes teams look sometimes.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: Got to you got to hang tight when that's happening right and like know that your preparation.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: will help you keep the chains moving and eventually break through because if like if you don't you press and that's how they get you.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a really big and important like tool they have for like skill of the offense.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_00]: The other one is my weekly edition of that opposing quarterback is annoying.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't think Bonix was very good on Sunday, 25 or 42 or 14 yards.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: The touchdown at an inopportune time wasn't great, rating of 89, 80.9.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_00]: But my goodness.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: So this stat from the Kyle Posey over at 9 or nation, Bonix at 42 attempts today as average depth of target was 5.3 yards.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: which is three worse than the NFL average.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_00]: He was five of 13 against the blitz for 32 yards.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_00]: He was two for 10 on passes, be on 10 yards.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: One of those was a coverage bust.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so that's an indication of like, Bo Nix not being very good.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_00]: But also just like, I don't know.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the, the, the, maybe I'm setting the, the bar to high, in this case for the defense, but I'm just like, the quarterback was like the fact that,
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: he was just thinking and dunking it down the field when the when the opportunity did come on that on that touchdown drive when they were just like here you have the ball I don't want it.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: It was a very weird.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw somebody say bone X is the is the quarterback that the people think Brock Terti is, which I thought was a very appropriate like.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: analysis of the situation.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't really know how this is a down other than it's just like he didn't seem like he was playing all that well but yet he was able to sort of like get the ball out of his hands from time to time and let somebody else deal with it.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I just partially am pointing it out because I think this is the thing that we said about him in the lead up to the game is just like do this and you'll probably be successful.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so maybe impact myself in the back a little bit on.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: Wow, that I'm the back to definitely like deserve.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think you were right on the money with halvey before Niners offered defense had to approach the game.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I mean, like, there's a bit of like closing that I think the defense is lacking right now.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: And part of that could just be, they don't have their closer.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's almost certainly true, right?
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they don't have the guy who takes care of business for them.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: And that's Mr. Rela.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: All right, me, that's Mr. Lake Nick Bowson, right?
- 44:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like he's your closer, he's gonna like end games for you.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: And if that's the case, you get into this issue, if like, okay, you know, I was the team gonna, like, you know, they gotta close out of drive who's gonna make the play.
- 44:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was true here, right?
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, a lot of small short plays very annoying, but someone has to like take a stand at end the game.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't necessarily do that yet.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I'm totally with you.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was not, I mean, it was a good defensive performance.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're all very happy without the defense played.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: Eq.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: You want them to have a bit more of that killer instinct, which is a weird thing to say for the 49ers, it's like, okay.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: We get it, you know, tough, like, it's a good team, good job, but now like, boom, like, let's like end this right now, right?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, where's that killer play from the defense?
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if we've got a ton of that.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: That can be a little annoying, I think, as a fan to not have the team sort of like, be like, and now we're closing up, right?
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so I mean, I don't know.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of that isn't fortunately due to the injuries and that will sort of change over time as they get healthier and have their closers.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think this statistic, so PFF registered 14 pressures for the 49ers against the Broncos, a Dragerian Long, who we mentioned at four, which is a career high.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait at three, Sebastian out, Valdez to Ramello, Hight to Oso de Gizuela, to an Agbo, Ocaron, Rancbo, had won.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: So 14, that's like a pretty decent number of pressures, but the fact that they came away with that with no sacks, I think speaks exactly the thing that you're talking about.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_00]: They have guys who can create problems but can't get home.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that they just don't have guys who can get home, it allows
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: like a slippery quarterback like Nick or like Jacobi reset last week to like get out of out a trouble.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: Now, maybe that works a little better against the guy who's a little less capable of slipping out of those kinds of things.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_00]: But you just kind of have to hope that they're going to continue to generate the pressure because this is a pretty good Bronco's offensive line.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: They kept talking about that in the broadcast too about how this is the greatest offensive line that has ever been assembled in human history.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm exaggerating a little bit, but so to have 14 pressures against an offensive line that's that's pretty good is is what you want, you just would like to see You know, three or three of those turn into sacks and then you're starting to feel good about yourself.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, yeah, right, like sacks and receptions, you force a fumble and get the ball like.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to start like finishing the play.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they're getting there.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not too concerned about it, but I think it is worth flagging, right?
- 47:30[SPEAKER_01]: But right now, that's not something that they're necessarily the best at.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_01]: And it's worth noting that that's gonna be something for them to have to figure out this time goes on.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully, as they get healthier, they'll develop that instinct.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, because we know that they are a pretty good tackling team.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_00]: They do a pretty good job of like swarming to the ball.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I was another thing that Brad cast made a big deal of talking about is the fact that they were, they were, you know, there was always a bunch of quarterbacks of defenders around the ball whenever they, whenever they did, they had something going on.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's just a matter of like finding the closer that you're talking about.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's really the right, that's the right look of this is to really think about it from that perspective.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_00]: And that if they can continue to do the thing that they are doing right now,
- 48:38[SPEAKER_00]: and then combine it with Michael Williams coming back and Nick Bosa coming back and all their things that they could do making a trade for an address for sooner or later like that's going to help as long as the other pieces continue to do the things that they're going to do.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly, I mean, you know, I thought Judon looked good in his limited snaps.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whoa.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not, so I think this is an injury's issue, right?
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: And if this was out for the year and Michael Williams wasn't coming back, this will be a huge problem to me.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_01]: But because that's not true, I feel a little more confident and say they'll figure this one out with time.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 100%.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_00]: All right, a final thing that I want to note.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_00]: So you mentioned the George Kittle touchdown run.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: He was having a good old time.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_00]: He said he was smiling.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_00]: He was enjoying outrunning his old teammate.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: But did you catch?
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, Oksha's who was who was the player directly behind George Gilles when he scored a touchdown.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I did cash this and I remember an article I read about the 40 manners offensive line back in a couple years ago and they have a jar from what I remembered about when an offensive line does some offensive line and does something to get on TV.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: And Connor Colby, you know, since you're listening, I'm pretty sure you're going to have to pay up to that jar because you were online there.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: That was impressive.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_00]: 18.5 miles per hour on the GPS with Kittle going nearly 20.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, and obviously he had a, I mean, Kittle had a slight bit of a head start because he was already moving.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, Connor Colby has to be behind him when he catches the ball.
- 50:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is like, I mean, that's, I mean, that is, that's, that's impressive, man.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: 18.5 miles per hour is scootin, especially if you're a man that size, I don't know if you'd like an adrenaline boost or something like that, but he was, he was moving, really impressive from Connor Colby, who it was, it shouldn't be lost that he is one of the five members of this offensive line that is playing really well to start the season,
- 50:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, what a, you know, just to like stay on that a little bit of we were all really worried about the offensive line right we were worried okay what what's going to happen now that you know who's going to like who's going to be the one to step up and I think left guard was really I don't think we either of us were really excited at the prospect that kind of Colby was going to be
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be the choice, but man, he like, I mean, he has taken that job and ran with it and that is super impressive to see.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I just like, well, I kudos to him, you know, and great job by the 49er staff, finding him in the seventh round is that right, fifth round, seventh round?
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: Some late round, just like, really, really impressive work and it's really paying off for the team.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, it's exciting.
- 51:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's exciting.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the team having this whole, uh, like, we don't invest in offensive linemen can be a little annoying, but when they have hits like this, you're like, okay, fine.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we get it.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: You got your win.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_01]: We understand now a little bit better.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Why you did what you did?
- 52:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 7th rounder picked 249.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so pretty impressive stuff from him.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_00]: Also, you said he took the job and he ran with it.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_00]: I let it go, but then I had to point it out.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_00]: So sorry, sorry for your joke.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully people were already laughing at home with you as you said it without you realizing it, but now we're bringing it back.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_00]: All right, well, um, yeah, the 49ers are 4-0.
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're off to a great start.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: First place in the NFC West, but they have a tough test coming up on Sunday which we will get to later on in the week.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_00]: When we do preview for their first road game, and technically their first real road game at the season, um, after the neutral site, and then three straight road games, or three straight home games, rather.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: And really, they're first of what will only be two road, two true road games before the season, before the by-week, which means at the end of the season is going to be a lot heavier on the road for this team, including another neutral site game, which we'll get into later.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think could ask for a better start in terms of the record, certainly,
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: in a lot of ways couldn't be asking for the team to be playing a whole lot better under the circumstances, but, um, actually as any final thoughts on this before we, uh, before we wrap up this episode.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, we quibble a little bit about the defense and the offense and everything, but look, if you had to choose what record the four and honors would have to start the year, Robert, I'm going to, I'm going to take a wild guess and say you would have chosen, um,
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: For now.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I mean, like if I were picking any any record.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, yes, yes, like you know, this is an unabashed success for the team that just has to be true right the injuries have been brutal and there's that they're sorting that out, but
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: This is best case scenario, I mean, it has to be, right?
- 54:04[SPEAKER_01]: They've banked the wins.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: They've won the ones they should.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: They've banked two wins against two teams that I think we were iffy on their ability to be.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, we thought they had a chance, but we weren't sure.
- 54:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, they started to this next part.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: Seattle's gonna be a tough game, hopefully they can pull through, but they've put themselves in a perfect position, and that's all you can ask for.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's really fun, it's exciting.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's not exciting that they decided to like research at the same time that Chiefs are also researching.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: I don't, I can't, I can't do another one of these.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's too much, please, please.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not gonna say any more, because there's only one way I want that to not happen and there's another way that will make me more sad.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_00]: But just,
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: like you know they're back.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's four weeks in, you know, not going to get ahead of their cells, but like they have shown, they prove them their concept.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's about getting better that way when they get to the playoffs, they can take it and run with it.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm really excited.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, every part of the team has shown promise and improvement in the skies the limit.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: So that's it's so much fun to be a fan when that's true.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll be back.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: We might be.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_00]: But who knows.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be back with you later in this week to preview the gaming.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Seahawks in Seattle on Sunday.
