- 1:01Oh, I forgot my. What's?
- 1:04Up, guys. Oh.
- 1:07Come on into the Monday Night Rewind live on Top of Racing
- 1:10Media presented by Federated Auto Parts and Elh Detailing as
- 1:14you can see your host Buju's and Lewis Knox from top of Racing
- 1:17Media on your Monday night interview show.
- 1:20The Number one interview show in Michiana on Monday nights.
- 1:23Another packed show tonight at 7:05.
- 1:26We have the Michigan Auto racing Fan club talking about all kinds
- 1:29of cool all Oh, excuse me. So Lewis told me my my face off
- 1:33the jump threw me off Michigan auto racing fan club.
- 1:37We're gonna call all the cool stuff and all the cool benefits
- 1:39that you can get when you check out their fan club.
- 1:42And then at 7:35 we got a whole mess of Bozells joining the show
- 1:46to talk the Clash coming up this week and some more big races
- 1:50still left in the year, as well as obviously a long history of
- 1:53racing in the Bozell family. So very excited about that at
- 1:557:40. And yeah, as I said, as always,
- 1:59joined by the man in the top row, Louis Noakes.
- 2:01So how are we doing tonight, Louis?
- 2:02Good I threw us off because we were doing the video check and I
- 2:05forgot to click back on our main graphic.
- 2:07But hey, it's fine. We we I got the banner going
- 2:09right away. So we got we got to win somehow.
- 2:12You know, we usually the banner is like 710 when I'm like, oh,
- 2:15that's not scrolling yet, so. Yeah, I've never been so shocked
- 2:19to see myself. Well, I know it's kind of like
- 2:22all of a sudden I saw some like deer in the head like, you know,
- 2:24it's like, hey, wait, that's that's not right.
- 2:27That's not usually. But in 27 episodes, that's the
- 2:30first time that has happened. So we'll you know, usually it's
- 2:33the banner that comes like last. It's like, oh, hey, that's not
- 2:36running yet. So we better get that going.
- 2:38So as I say, you know, I like to say, you know, shoot first, same
- 2:42second. So.
- 2:44Live TV baby. Yeah.
- 2:46Hey, you know what, at some point, I mean, did you, I, I
- 2:49don't know if you saw going around and I and it was true.
- 2:52So on ESPN for the summer slam commercial breaks, they spelled
- 2:57commercial wrong. That's ESPN.
- 3:00So it I it was like chimerical or something like that.
- 3:03It was really spelled weird and and I thought at first someone
- 3:05was doing like an AI whatever, right.
- 3:08So when I watched, I'm like, Oh no, that's spelled wrong.
- 3:11So ESPN spelled something wrong. So if ESPN can spell something
- 3:16wrong, I think we're OK. They've got a few more people on
- 3:19staff. Yeah, yeah.
- 3:21And so that's, that's my excuse for now.
- 3:24That's what I'm going to go with.
- 3:26I don't know if it works or not, but that's what I'm selling so.
- 3:29Just keep a print out of it in your pocket so.
- 3:32I took a picture of it on the TV.
- 3:34You know, Netflix is really good about going back and editing
- 3:38things. If they do something wrong, even
- 3:40though it's weird, they'll cut out stuff on programming.
- 3:43But then you watch like some of the other shows on Netflix,
- 3:45you're like, but that's OK. Like it doesn't make sense,
- 3:48right? But but again, you know,
- 3:52newspapers have always had misprints and all that.
- 3:55So I'm like, you know, we don't have too many of them.
- 3:58I'll I'll take the wins we when we can get them, but but I know,
- 4:02you know, the next couple weeks are loaded.
- 4:04I, I lined up a lot of guests for us when I was at the
- 4:08Corrigan Oil Speedway this past Friday for the tri-state sprints
- 4:11were there, as well as the Michigan events racers.
- 4:13So we'll have John Boy and Sean Sprague and Andrew Bogus and a
- 4:18couple others coming up over the next couple weeks.
- 4:22And then I know tonight we have Bozell's.
- 4:25I'm so excited for that. They were on my to schedule a
- 4:28list and and we had an opening. So I'm like, well, they're my
- 4:31first stop because I was going to talk to them on Wednesday and
- 4:34I'm like they may they can make it work.
- 4:36So I'm so excited for them because one way or another we
- 4:38are going to have bozos eventually.
- 4:39But I know they're busy. So they're taking, they got four
- 4:43cars this Wednesday. So it's not just one or two or
- 4:48three. Now they have 4:00.
- 4:49So I appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedule for
- 4:52tonight. So it's a nice weekend.
- 4:56You know, Saturday, not so much. But I want to give a big shout
- 5:01out and credit to New Paris for giving it a shot on on Sunday.
- 5:05You know the it's definitely not their level of night destruction
- 5:08in terms of crowd size. And I and that's they knew, they
- 5:12knew that switching to Sunday too.
- 5:14So I mean, that's a them for running the show at that point.
- 5:17Yep. They wanted to give everyone a
- 5:19chance and so and it was entertaining.
- 5:22You know, still a lot of cars, a lot of people came in kind of
- 5:27like it was a trickle. You almost like when you turn on
- 5:30a water foster, you just let it drip.
- 5:31So it's a little bit of a trickle for them.
- 5:33But it filled in right at at 4:00.
- 5:36It was looking a little sparse, but you know, people filled in
- 5:38and filled in and filled in. Their next one is September
- 5:4212th, so they'll look to get back on the the right track for
- 5:46that. All their nods this year have
- 5:47had bad weather. I mean, they've not had any
- 5:49luck. And then Corgan Oil had a great
- 5:54race on Friday and they were packed too.
- 5:56That was their biggest crowd. And I know John was there who
- 6:00were bringing in. And of course, we have President
- 6:02Gary who's going to be joining us too, past President John,
- 6:05who's current vice president with Marf.
- 6:08But you know, I know John was there just as a fan.
- 6:11And I mean we have people always sitting towards the top of the
- 6:14bleachers at Corgan Oil, which on Sundays we haven't seen that.
- 6:18And it's like I keep telling people you need to get out
- 6:20there, it's a fun track. And so I know this Friday is
- 6:23their championship. I plan to be back at Corrigan
- 6:26this Friday. So because Kalamazoo is off
- 6:29obviously this Friday again with the Clash on Wednesday, so I'll
- 6:34be there. Then we got championship on
- 6:36Saturday at New Paris and then we have championship on Sunday
- 6:40at the Mini Wedges. So busy week for championships,
- 6:44so a lot going on. Yeah, I'm back at M40 this week,
- 6:49finally. I was intended to be at M40 this
- 6:51week, but again, rained out. This was a trackless weekend for
- 6:54me, a very rare occurrence in my life.
- 6:56But yeah, I didn't make it out anywhere this week.
- 6:58I I well, I do. I do.
- 6:59I went to the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo.
- 7:01I went to Kalamazoo for a different reason.
- 7:03That was pretty fun. I enjoyed that.
- 7:04Have you ever been there? Oh, yeah, a lot of times.
- 7:06In fact, that was one of that was a school trip at one time
- 7:09too that we have, you know, home turf, right?
- 7:13And you know, so that they have a lot.
- 7:15And in fact, one of the museum directors there is a friend of
- 7:20mine who I used to work at Western Michigan University and
- 7:24the writing center there. So when I was working in the
- 7:26writing center at Western, she helped schedule and do all these
- 7:29things. So she's always posting amazing
- 7:31things that they're getting at the Air Zoo.
- 7:33So I haven't been there though in a really, really long time.
- 7:36So that's something I should probably get up there.
- 7:38Like I said, I see all her pictures and things that they're
- 7:40bringing in historical stuff. And then I'm like, man, I should
- 7:43go. And then I just, I'm kind of one
- 7:46of those like with race fans, like you should go, oh, you
- 7:50know, I same thing with their zoo, like, oh, I have this or I
- 7:53have that. I had a blast.
- 7:56Yeah, I I'm a kid in the candy store with that kind of stuff.
- 7:58Anyway, I like history almost as much as I like race cars.
- 8:01So it was pretty. It was pretty cool to check out.
- 8:03Did you climb into the big bomber that they have?
- 8:05There I did. And the line was too long.
- 8:07And we were, we were, we were moving, man.
- 8:09Yeah, yeah, it's, I mean, it's incredible when you get into
- 8:13some of those planes, like you could get into planes and.
- 8:15Just have even they had a few smaller displays that we were
- 8:18really good and even that's cool.
- 8:19Just being able to sit in it and feel it is it's, it's an
- 8:22interesting experience. Yep, and it's and it's like
- 8:25you're they're also standing in history, you know, and so it's
- 8:28it's a pretty they do a really nice job up there.
- 8:32So definitely if you've never been to the Ayers zoo, I know
- 8:34this is a race podcast, but we're all about everything and
- 8:37you know, get up there. And so that's why it's also
- 8:40perfect too, because tonight we're going to be promoting a
- 8:42lot of tracks at one time when we bring on John and Gary,
- 8:45because with the Michigan auto fan racing, our auto auto racing
- 8:49fan club switch that they for $20, you can sign up and I'll
- 8:56have them give all the details. I have a graphic made-up, but I
- 8:59have their website queued up as well for $20 a single person,
- 9:02you sign up and you can go to any of their events.
- 9:04So like this weekend, they have Winston Speedway.
- 9:07If you've not been there, they you know, they've done
- 9:10incredible work at Winston. Then they also have authors.
- 9:12So it's not just author Raceway, which I didn't even know what
- 9:15that was until I went to the banquet.
- 9:18And they have like a lot of carts, cart racing and all that
- 9:21kind of deal. So, so you can get to a lot of
- 9:23tracks for free on their nights. So and other things going on.
- 9:30So I'm not going to steal their Thunder.
- 9:31I'm going to let them talk all about it.
- 9:32But you know, when you make these trips to other tracks,
- 9:34maybe you can explore the towns at the same time and just see
- 9:37what's kind of there to offer while you're waiting to get to
- 9:39the racetrack, as I could tune for one.
- 9:41Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
- 9:43But nothing's nothing's better than going to the racetrack for
- 9:45free. No, so, so that's where if
- 9:49you're ready, we could bring on Gary.
- 9:51Yeah, Gary has the video working now.
- 9:53So that gave him some time to get that going.
- 9:55So again, let's go ahead and let's bring on President Gary
- 9:59Engel and then Vice President John Jackson from the Michigan
- 10:02Auto Racing Fan Club. Hello again tonight, guys.
- 10:05How are you doing? Good, good.
- 10:08Doing terrific. Well, and I know John, like I
- 10:11said, you were at Corrigan this past Friday, but I know your fan
- 10:14club nights were at Hartford and it was supposed to be at M40,
- 10:21but obviously M40 got cancelled out.
- 10:24So I I looked at John, I went, you're not at the racetrack
- 10:29tonight for Marc because I knew they were at Hartford and he was
- 10:32just there as a fan. So so it was great to catch up
- 10:35with John and and Gary, that's how we got you to even be able
- 10:38to come on tonight and and talk. And I know you're just a few
- 10:41months into your presidency over here at the Michigan Auto fan
- 10:46auto racing fan club. I always want to put fan first
- 10:49for some reason. I don't know why, but but with
- 10:52that, I always like to start with, I call it the softball
- 10:55question. And Gary will start with you
- 10:56since you're the new president. And this is a chance to
- 10:59introduce your face to a lot of people who may not know you,
- 11:02right? Because they know John a lot
- 11:03from seeing him at events. But you just took over that
- 11:07position while John is now in the vice president role.
- 11:10So Gary, I want to give a little bit about like your background
- 11:13and how you got into the Michigan Auto Racing fan club.
- 11:17And then we'll head over to John and John will do that same
- 11:20background because you are helped really resurrect this
- 11:23back to where it is today. And then we'll get into member
- 11:27benefits and how to join up and everything else.
- 11:31I I've been in auto racing pretty much my whole life.
- 11:35I grew up around racing. Everybody in the family raced
- 11:41and then I went to work at Auto City Speedway and worked there
- 11:46for many years doing everything that you can imagine at the
- 11:51track. I've done flagging, I've been in
- 11:54the tower, I've been in the pit. So I've done it all.
- 11:58But the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club, I've been a part of that
- 12:02with the bowling and seen him, known him for years, seeing
- 12:06everybody around New Wild Bill and Dave D Ham and John.
- 12:11And it's really the last few years I really got more involved
- 12:18with it. And it's, it's something that's,
- 12:24it's a passion and you have to have the passion because it's a
- 12:29lot of work. And I'm trying to, trying to
- 12:31live up to what I thought it was.
- 12:34And it is a lot more work than what I ever imagined in my life.
- 12:38So, but it's, it's very fulfilling too.
- 12:44Well, I know that's John. I mean, that's where you did.
- 12:46I mean you've done so much work to bring this back kind of where
- 12:49it was in a whole group. It's not just you, like you're
- 12:51the first to say it's not just me, it's all of us.
- 12:54And so I know Gary's and you know, inheriting a Michigan auto
- 12:58fan racing fan club that is healthier than what you arrived
- 13:03to John. So if you want to talk a little
- 13:04bit about your background and some of the work that you've
- 13:07done to bring it to where it is today so that Gary has all the
- 13:11pressure on him to continue it. Well, I got involved with racing
- 13:18back in the late 60s when a friend of mine working an
- 13:22Oldsmobile said, hey, have you ever been to a stock car race?
- 13:25I said, yeah, he's why don't you come with me?
- 13:26I've got a car tonight. At that time, Lansing Speedway
- 13:30or Spartan, I think it was not even a Spartan at that time.
- 13:33So we went out there and and fell in love with it right away,
- 13:36sitting in the pits and one of the guys said hey, you want to I
- 13:42need my car letter that I said and I said I had no idea about
- 13:46it. I said oh I can do that.
- 13:47So that was the back of the days before wrapped we had foxtail
- 13:50paintbrushes and stuff. I went out and bought some of
- 13:53those and practiced and started lettering cars out for people.
- 13:57They didn't look that great, but they had numbers out.
- 14:02Well, I I thought they looked OK.
- 14:04But then anyway, we did that and then moved to Minnesota, got
- 14:09involved out there with Elko Track, Elko Raceway, went down
- 14:15to South Dakota, down to Lucid Speedway, used to travel all
- 14:21around Minnesota. Then moved to Connecticut and
- 14:24and travelled all the tracks in the in New England.
- 14:27And then came back to Michigan and started going around to find
- 14:32out about the fan club. And it made me fan out of the
- 14:36year in 2016. And I didn't realize what that
- 14:39was. That was a way to fish me in.
- 14:42And how would you like to be on the board?
- 14:44And I thought, sure, how would you like to handle some fan club
- 14:48nights? And so we started doing that.
- 14:50I took over from Dave B Ham was the vice president while Bill
- 14:54was the president. While Bill had it for many
- 14:56years. He did a wonderful job.
- 14:58And he, they both of them helped me make the transition.
- 15:01And I was fortunate enough to get a lot of people to be on the
- 15:03board like you say it. I guess the term is it takes a
- 15:08village, you know, you have to have a lot of people.
- 15:11And then Gary came along and, and I said thank you very much,
- 15:18boy, he's been a godsend. And I've had a lot of number of
- 15:21people. I don't want to start naming
- 15:22names because I'll, I'll forget somebody, but there was a lot of
- 15:25them. So that's how I got involved.
- 15:28And I just absolutely love it. And I'm going to carry on just
- 15:35for a second, then I'm going to turn it back over.
- 15:37But it's kind of a funny story is that we were going to fit.
- 15:41I, when I started out, I was, I remember the first few tracks, I
- 15:44was the only one at the fan club table.
- 15:47And sometimes I'd have somebody else and well, then I got, so I
- 15:50was doing it all and then I got some good people to come in to
- 15:53start handling the table and I was starting micromanaging them.
- 15:59And they said, hey, don't you have something to do?
- 16:00Why don't you go down the pits and talk to drivers?
- 16:04So they kicked me out and went down.
- 16:05And that's been what I we do now.
- 16:07Gary does that when he goes to the track.
- 16:09I do that to the track. It's been wonderful.
- 16:11The relationships we build with all the all the racers and it's
- 16:14just can't say enough about it. Well, that's one thing that like
- 16:21you, even you and I were talking on Friday, right, is that it's
- 16:24building those relationships. And you'd said, you know, we've
- 16:28done a lot on the driver's side to really build those.
- 16:30And obviously at the banquet you guys host each year that I know
- 16:34just takes a lot of work into that.
- 16:36You, you honor all the Champions from the tracks, especially
- 16:40member tracks. And, and you do that and you
- 16:42get, you know, plaques for them. You have other awards that you
- 16:46hand out, you know, then you even mention like, hey, now that
- 16:50we got like the drivers, it's probably time to kind of swing
- 16:52the pendulum back, you know, where, you know, getting to know
- 16:57the fans more again. And so because I've said
- 16:59sometimes it might be just easy to walk right by the tent,
- 17:02right? You know, it's there, but a lot
- 17:04of people may not know like what you do or what that is.
- 17:08And so that's why I'm like, let's bring you on that way.
- 17:11We could just help promote that because again, for, you know,
- 17:13for a single person, like let's say I wanted to Sign up today
- 17:16and I know you have a 2027 deal going on that I'll let you guys
- 17:19talk about. But you know, if you go to the
- 17:20website like today, it's 20 bucks for a single member and
- 17:25it's like that's one racetrack entrance.
- 17:27You know, if I went to one event that I would save money on
- 17:30almost, you know, if it's $15 or $18.00 on your nights and you
- 17:34have a calendar on there that shows all your nights.
- 17:36So, and it's all over Michigan that you can take advantage of.
- 17:39So, so I don't know Gary or John, which one of you wants to
- 17:43talk about those benefits and how that works, but I'll let one
- 17:46of you take the floor on like what, what is Michigan Auto
- 17:50Racing Fan Club? Like, what do you guys do?
- 17:53How do you do it and how can people help you a part of this
- 17:56mission? Gary, I'll.
- 17:59Start out, fill in whatever it is.
- 18:04The best deal in auto racing is what it is.
- 18:07We are trying to get the fans into the stands and so they can
- 18:11watch auto racing and go to love it like we do.
- 18:15So for us it's just bringing attention to the short track
- 18:21auto racing, whether it be the dirt track, the asphalt track or
- 18:29the little go Kart track. We just want to bring the fans
- 18:32into the stands. So, yeah, for 20 bucks, you
- 18:35can't get into hardly anywhere for 20 bucks.
- 18:39So you get a membership, you know, for $20 and a family, You
- 18:44know, I enjoy being at the tent and explaining to people what
- 18:49they get. And so I tell them, you know,
- 18:53you can't get yourself and your wife into a race for 25 bucks
- 18:58most places. So now, you know, you get a
- 19:02membership, you get into all these races at different tracks
- 19:05and that's what I love to do is sit there and talk to the people
- 19:09and talk to the the families and let them know.
- 19:12And you can see racing all over the state of Michigan.
- 19:15You want to have a vacation every weekend, Let's go to a new
- 19:17track. You know, this weekend John and
- 19:21some of the other members are going to be at Winston.
- 19:25I unfortunately have to work this Friday, so I can't, but I
- 19:29will be at Arthur on Saturday. You know, it's two totally
- 19:32different tracks that you get to see.
- 19:34So it's it's amazing, you know, and I was looking forward to
- 19:38M40I was at Hartford on Friday and we had a great race there
- 19:42and I was looking forward to M40 and whether Mother Nature took a
- 19:48bite out again. Louis.
- 19:52Louis, I have something. Yeah.
- 19:53Thank you. It's a nice graphic you have,
- 19:55but we've changed that since it was really put out about family
- 19:58membership. It's not.
- 20:00It's not two children. You can have You can have all
- 20:04children under the age of 15 living in the same household are
- 20:08included in the family membership.
- 20:10OK, OK, so. We signed up a family this
- 20:15weekend that had four kids that are all under 15 and they're all
- 20:18going to be able to come in and watch race.
- 20:20We're for $25. You couldn't get the whole
- 20:23family in one race. Yeah, not, I mean, again, that's
- 20:29while you guys are talk about it.
- 20:30I'm going to bring up your website.
- 20:31So like this where people can find where all this is.
- 20:35But that's something that again, for 25 bucks for a family,
- 20:39right? That gives, that puts money in
- 20:40their pocket that they can go spend on a concession stand or
- 20:43they can go spend on a souvenir or they can save for another
- 20:48race, right? And, and that's why I, I have
- 20:51it. I just have to click on the
- 20:53share screen here to bring that tab up.
- 20:57But that's where, you know, with the membership, you can fill it
- 21:00out online. And I want to make sure that you
- 21:02guys could see it. Yep, it's there.
- 21:03But if you go to thatmarf.org, let me go home.
- 21:08This is their landing page where you can get here and you can
- 21:11see, you know, who's in the history, which also includes
- 21:14board members at the bottom. So you can see who the board
- 21:17members are, what role they play within this organization and
- 21:22their meetings and how you can join the fan club.
- 21:26But then and here, oh, I just passed it, you know, single
- 21:30member couples up to two you. But you said you'd change that,
- 21:35right? Yes.
- 21:37Yeah. That's been changed now.
- 21:38Yeah. So this one's changed So.
- 21:41So as I just said. But you can sign up there and
- 21:45then if you want to know their member tracks, you can see here
- 21:48and go. I wonder if my racetrack is a
- 21:50part of that. Maybe you could talk to your
- 21:52racetrack, be like, hey, I was on this website and I saw that
- 21:55you guys weren't part of this. How can we get them part of it?
- 21:58But you know, you were just at Hartford.
- 22:00You said obviously you've been in a wasso you're at Kalamazoo,
- 22:03you're going to go to Russell's on Saturday.
- 22:06But Ken Ross all the way in the UPI know you guys made that
- 22:09trip. Spring Port's coming back, even
- 22:11got the new logo on there. You know, all these tracks that
- 22:15you can be a part of to go. And when you have your
- 22:19membership dates, which are here, you can go to their
- 22:22monthly calendar and you can see it coming up.
- 22:25You know, this is their 21st fan night scheduled, you know,
- 22:29Winston and you can see, you know where they're going, what
- 22:33they're doing. And when they have their
- 22:35membership nights, you get in for free.
- 22:37So it's not that, you know, if you go to Kalamazoo every week
- 22:39and you're like, I'm a member that you get in for free the
- 22:42week, you know, every week at Kalamazoo, but on their fan
- 22:44nights. And so I mean, if you just did
- 22:46the math here, let's say that each of these tracks was 20
- 22:49bucks, 24681012, you know, like that's a lot of money that you
- 22:55paid 20 bucks or 25 bucks for all of that.
- 23:00So again, it's it's not a bad deal at all.
- 23:04And Lewis, you think about the cost of gasoline now we're
- 23:07trying that kind of offsets the cost of going to these different
- 23:10tracks in a way, yeah. Oh, absolutely.
- 23:14I mean, and, and gas, I mean, this year has impacted everyone.
- 23:17But that's where you can fill out memberships online.
- 23:19You can fill out memberships at their tents when they're at a
- 23:21racetrack, if you want to do that.
- 23:24Like I said, the this junior membership is at under 15, but,
- 23:29you know, and if you have questions, you can even contact
- 23:32them, right, You know, and certainly follow them on
- 23:34Facebook too. That way you could see all their
- 23:37updates and all the things that are that are going on.
- 23:39So when you think about that, just in the month of August, if
- 23:43I had signed up and I wasn't attached to certain tracks, I
- 23:47could go to all those events with you guys and it cost me
- 23:50$20.00 for the membership. Yeah.
- 23:54You know, Louis, I'd like to point out one thing, Louis US
- 23:56showed the website there and you'll see there's a scroll on
- 24:01the bottom with a bunch of businesses and stuff.
- 24:03They don't give us. They don't give us money.
- 24:05I mean, we're not sponsors and stuff, but they give us a lot of
- 24:10giveaway items, T-shirts, hats and and other things for our
- 24:14banquet and for our fan club nights.
- 24:16So there's a lot of supporters there so you can see who they
- 24:19who those are that help us too. Yeah, and I know Benny Miller's
- 24:25on here. I received a gear bag from these
- 24:27guys at Corrigan Speedway a few years ago, and that's a memory
- 24:29I'll never forget. So do you want to talk a little
- 24:31bit about the gear bag that you guys do in each event that you
- 24:34go to? You present somebody with a bag
- 24:37that has items in it and you recognize you?
- 24:40You know I don't. Every track may pick different
- 24:44on how they decide how that person's picked, but do you want
- 24:46to talk a little bit a little bit about what that award is and
- 24:50then what's what that bag comes with?
- 24:53Well, what what it is, it's a it's a helmet bag that is been
- 24:58going around for years. I mean, they've been giving them
- 25:01out for quite a few years, but it's a helmet bag that has our
- 25:06emblem and stuff right on the front of it.
- 25:08And we usually throw a hat and AT shirt in there from Michigan
- 25:12artists mangled and the track decides we we leave it up to the
- 25:16track to decide who they want to recognize.
- 25:20And it doesn't have to be a driver.
- 25:22We've had track employees, we've had promoters that, you know,
- 25:28sponsors that they want to give it to.
- 25:31And to see the look on some people's faces when they get
- 25:36that bag is amazing because they cherish that and it's something
- 25:42that they'll never forget. And that bag means a lot to a
- 25:46lot of people. So.
- 25:48I know George Zalmer, I believe received it at Hartford this
- 25:51past weekend and I know he made a nice post about that.
- 25:54And then Skeeter at Kalamazoo recognized for his long years of
- 25:58service. I know Taylor Sexton received it
- 26:00last year at Kalamazoo. So you know, there's a track
- 26:03worker and there's two drivers. And as you said, I, I think a
- 26:07promoter at Kalamazoo. I was, I thought Gary might have
- 26:11received one. I could be wrong there, but but
- 26:13obviously you guys are recognizing individuals who do a
- 26:16lot of contribution to auto racing in Michigan.
- 26:21Yeah, Lewis, I don't know if you heard him say that.
- 26:23Waldo Risky junior, who was driving a.
- 26:26Sprint, he says. Hey, John, I still got my bag
- 26:30from about five years ago. It's still over there keeping it
- 26:33nice and clean and and carrying my stuff that so that was that
- 26:36was nice to hear. Well, and again, that just shows
- 26:39the work that you guys are doing and the meaning, you know,
- 26:42behind that, that you're intentional, you know, with that
- 26:45kind of stuff. It's not all this is just a
- 26:47check mark on our thing that we come to each event.
- 26:49And here you go like that. You guys are, you know, putting
- 26:52that work into it and, and doing that presentation on the front
- 26:56stretch so that fans can see this and they can also help
- 27:00recognize that person who's being recognized by you guys.
- 27:03And so again, that I, you know, I think that's why that means so
- 27:06much is because it's not just a little thing, right?
- 27:08Like it's a purposeful intentional thing that you guys
- 27:11are doing. It's not something that, you
- 27:14know, we do, you know, back at the drivers meeting or wherever.
- 27:18It's something we want the fans to recognize and see that this
- 27:23person is being recognized and for whatever they've done in the
- 27:26sport. And I think that's the best part
- 27:28about is we're doing it in front of everybody so the fans get to
- 27:32recognize them too, not just us. Yep.
- 27:36Well, and that's emphasis on fan club, right?
- 27:39Because it takes, as you said, it takes a village.
- 27:41It's all of us together to help this.
- 27:44So one question I have, since Boujou is an Indiana resident, I
- 27:47had someone ask me at New Paris this question.
- 27:50So I'll let you guys answer it. They live close enough to the
- 27:53border that they're like, well, I go to more Michigan tracks and
- 27:56I go to Indiana tracks. And so can someone from Indiana
- 28:00sign up for the Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club and join you
- 28:03guys at race tracks? Or is that just if you know
- 28:05Michigan resident only? Absolutely.
- 28:08I I don't see any reason why they can't.
- 28:11But you know, Louis, to let you know, we have members from
- 28:16Florida, North Carolina. Ohio.
- 28:20Indiana and Alabama and, and they, and they, you know, they
- 28:26come to Michigan and once in a while and when they're up there,
- 28:28they go to the, the, the tracks where they use their membership.
- 28:32So there's probably some other states, but those are the ones I
- 28:35know off the top of my head. So there you go.
- 28:38So I, I said I will pass that question on.
- 28:41I mean, when I went to your forum, it said just state it and
- 28:44say only Michigan residents or whatever.
- 28:46But I thought, well, I will, I will ask that because I'm sure
- 28:50if they're thinking it, someone else might have already thought
- 28:52it 'cause I know Indiana has their own fan club too that will
- 28:55travel around to different tracks to do different things.
- 28:57I don't know if they're at the same level of what you guys are
- 28:59doing, but but they're like, I go to more Michigan tracks than
- 29:03I do Indiana tracks. And so I thought I will pass
- 29:05that on and we'll ask on the show.
- 29:07So so thank you guys for answering that because you just
- 29:10never know, right? Especially for those of us close
- 29:12to the border. We probably go both, you know,
- 29:15to each side of the state line a couple times a year.
- 29:18So now with that, oh, oh, Joel, yeah.
- 29:22I I mean, Ohio people have a chance to, they, they may, they
- 29:26have a special version, But one of the things to that someone
- 29:33was wondering, because this is a big conversation in Indiana
- 29:37going on right now at, you know, at their level with PRI is
- 29:41there, you know, they were having a conversation.
- 29:45You know what, what are the challenges that like the
- 29:47Michigan Auto racing fan club has in getting fans to the
- 29:51stands or even like new members? Like what are some challenges
- 29:54that you guys see as you continue to build a not only a
- 29:57solid foundation, but build the house with it?
- 30:01Well, it's, it's right now just the economy and you see it
- 30:05everywhere is, you know, getting people to join.
- 30:10We do a push every, you know, all year long trying to get new
- 30:15members and we're on the same pace as last year.
- 30:19But you know, I want to keep just growing and keep it going
- 30:24and bringing as many fans as I can.
- 30:26You know, when I took this over, you know, John has done an
- 30:30amazing job growing the fan club.
- 30:33And I said I got some huge shoes to step into when I was doing
- 30:37this. And so I want to keep it up and
- 30:40keep things growing. And something that you you think
- 30:45about being on the board is how can we grow this?
- 30:50And it's something that's on my mind all the time, and thinking
- 30:53outside the box and trying to find some different ways is what
- 30:57we're going to do. And, you know, just want to keep
- 31:00growing and keep everybody you know coming to the racetrack.
- 31:05You know, Louis, one of the things that you know, I said I
- 31:11jumped into the deep end of the pool when I got got on the
- 31:13board. But we've we've put together a
- 31:18it's rather informal, but you get a title it Marfac, an
- 31:21ambassador. And these are people that if
- 31:24hey, I want to try this out, sit at the table, talk to people and
- 31:27help out. And you can go to 123 or 4 as
- 31:33many tracks as you want to just come to there and help out.
- 31:36And you know, if somebody wants to find out more about that,
- 31:39they can send Gary President at marfac.org e-mail and we'll give
- 31:46that to them. But it's a wonderful way to get
- 31:48involved, see if you like it. And then the other challenge we
- 31:52have is that there's a chance there's 2 tracks for sure, I
- 31:57think that are going to want to become member tracks again next
- 32:00year. And there's a third one that's
- 32:03kind of on the outside of this talking.
- 32:05And so if you start figuring we have 23 now and we go to 26 and
- 32:10we have to go to all those we, if people want to get more
- 32:15involved with that, to help out with that, that would be
- 32:17wonderful. You know, just send us a note,
- 32:20say, hey, how can I get involved because we're growing still so.
- 32:26Now, Boojie, I feel like I've left you out a little bit, so
- 32:28definitely I'm going to let you jump in because I I'm like, I
- 32:32want to remember these questions I got from new pairs too.
- 32:36I was enjoying, I was enjoying learning about the fan club and
- 32:39it's something I'm definitely signing up for after the show is
- 32:42over. But on the lighter side of
- 32:44things, I want to take it. Yeah, a little more personal
- 32:47issue. You 2.
- 32:48Outside of Michigan, because I don't want to, I don't want to
- 32:50bring any bias in here, but favorite race tracks.
- 32:52If you each had to pick a favorite race track and we'll go
- 32:54outside of the state of Michigan to keep it fair, if you each had
- 32:57to choose, what would it be for you 2.
- 32:59Mine is Winchester by far. Been there many times with CRA
- 33:06and other factions and it just my favorite track.
- 33:13I've I've been to almost every NASCAR track and Winchester or
- 33:22Bristol so. Side of the state of Michigan.
- 33:27My favorite track is who's at Speedway in South Dakota just
- 33:31outside of Sioux Falls. My brother's been there a couple
- 33:36times and it looks fun. It's crazy out there.
- 33:43And then another question that I always like to ask my guest when
- 33:46I get the chance, before I throw it back to Lewis here.
- 33:48If you could go back and watch one, watch a race at one track
- 33:51with one person, where would you go?
- 33:53What are you watching and who are you watching it with?
- 33:59I would probably say Sprint cars at Eldora.
- 34:07Where's my dad? I would say Daytona was my
- 34:16brother. We went back about 20 years ago
- 34:19and we had a great time. I'd like to do that again.
- 34:23I like it. Great answers boys.
- 34:25Like I said, I'm looking forward to signing up to the fan club.
- 34:27I I didn't quite realize the benefits myself.
- 34:29So as as someone who was very like I'm literally 5 minutes the
- 34:33borders that way, 5 minutes. I will definitely be using the
- 34:35benefits this year. Well, can I jump in one more
- 34:39time? That's not just the race tracks.
- 34:41We have offseason meets. I know Gary's planning some
- 34:44events for this year and I want to go back and we're I think
- 34:48we're going to do this again. We had a season launch party in
- 34:52April. It was Easter weekend, believe
- 34:54it or not, Saturday before Easter.
- 34:56Everybody said it wasn't going to happen.
- 34:58Then it rained came. But thank goodness for Rex
- 35:01Wheeler at a watts of Speedway. He gave a great big tech barn
- 35:06and we had it. We had probably a dozen race
- 35:10cars, Sprint cars, CRA cars. We even had a go Kart and a hot,
- 35:15really a hot rod go Kart. It was really.
- 35:20And they gave rides around the the track in there, Sweeper
- 35:24Lightning, McLean, and they had the buses there.
- 35:28The people could go in the school buses and see what it was
- 35:30like in there that they raced and the double deckers, all that
- 35:33stuff. But we had about 250 people
- 35:36there and we had racers that were there that did interviews,
- 35:40CRE racers, modified racers. Want to thank Dave McManus,
- 35:44Jimmy, Jimmy Tucker and and a bunch of other folks that came
- 35:48up there and and talked. It was really.
- 35:51So we do offseason things too, so that you can come to.
- 35:54There's no cost for those. You can come.
- 35:56And we always give away prizes too.
- 35:59We're going to have one here this fall at the Go Kart track
- 36:05in Clio. I don't have that exact date
- 36:08right now, but we are going to have one there and they're going
- 36:10to allow us to go out and race after we're done with the
- 36:16meeting. Oh, look at that.
- 36:19Well, and I'll show the graphic one more time.
- 36:21Just know that this the family was recently changed.
- 36:25So where that can be anyone, right, John?
- 36:29Anyone under the age of 15. Yep, Yep.
- 36:33And or I should say Gary too. John was the one who filled in
- 36:37that information and said that's not quite right yet, but that
- 36:40was just changing. So again, a single membership,
- 36:42$20. You can sign up online or you
- 36:45can sign up in person at any of their events. 2 adult
- 36:49membership, $25. Again, this the two children.
- 36:53That's not that's not a thing anymore.
- 36:55That could be multiple children under age of 15 for $25 and two
- 36:58adults. And then like we said, that
- 37:00junior membership for someone who's 15 or under is free.
- 37:04So again, I mean, we did the math.
- 37:07You add up 20 bucks across, you know, if there were 20, I mean a
- 37:10lot of tracks like 15, but you include gas and that right, you
- 37:14include concession, you include price.
- 37:16You know, if you're spending $4060 a night at a racetrack,
- 37:18you might be able to save, you know, $20 and, and just stay,
- 37:23you know, spending on concession or save it from the next track.
- 37:26So again, it's well worth its value if you use it and travel
- 37:30around and follow the Michigan Auto Racing fan club, even on a
- 37:34double weekend. Like you could have gone to
- 37:36Hartford on Friday. And if Saturday had happened
- 37:38Saturday at Russell's, like an hour apart, you could have got
- 37:42in for free at both tracks. So.
- 37:45Louis, one thing I want to put down there, you mentioned it
- 37:47briefly, but I want to emphasize this.
- 37:50We still have Winston, Arthur, Northern and Silver Bullet.
- 37:57Also. It's good that was a rain out
- 37:59that's rescheduled. Those are four.
- 38:01We got 4 tracks left. If you sign up now, you get all
- 38:04of those for the rest of this year and all of next year for
- 38:07that same price. Yeah.
- 38:09So I mean, you add up that money, right?
- 38:11I mean just until next year because that that doesn't
- 38:14include whether tracks raise their admission price or not,
- 38:17right. You're already locked in as a
- 38:18member for those member nights. And so again, that's something
- 38:22to, I mean you sign up now you get all of 2027, there you go,
- 38:28you already. That's deal in auto racing.
- 38:32Especially for families, that's pretty.
- 38:34Remarkable actually. Well, and you guys, I mean you,
- 38:37you'd really balance your schedule too, where you're like
- 38:40you had Great Lakes super sprints this past Friday at
- 38:42Hartford, which is usually a higher ticket because it's
- 38:45Sprint cars. And so they got to see Crown
- 38:47Vics and cyber socks off the same time with that race.
- 38:50And so that's, that's the savings right there already,
- 38:53because usually I think Sprint car nights at Hartford are 18 to
- 38:57$20 somewhere in there. I don't remember the exact price
- 39:00on the flyer. But if you took a family and
- 39:02you, you know, had a couple people, you saved money at
- 39:05Hartford on Friday. And you know, for people who may
- 39:09not get to travel to these other tracks, that may be a way to go.
- 39:12I have a reason now, right? I have a membership.
- 39:15Let me go take advantage of that and try a track I've never tried
- 39:18before. And maybe they're, they become a
- 39:20fan and go back right, Which is the goal too is not just one
- 39:24trip, you know, go back and give it a second or third or fourth,
- 39:27third, 10th or 100th time. Yeah, we have reveal the hammer.
- 39:33Yeah, we have super modifies CRA and and like I said, it's a full
- 39:42range of them. It's it's it's not it's not demo
- 39:47derbies that you're going to for like you have an affair.
- 39:50These are front top rate shows that we get so.
- 39:54The vintage racing at at Waterford Hills was amazing.
- 39:58Yeah. One thing I want to say too is
- 40:02that all we are very closely associated with the Michigan
- 40:07Speedway Promoters Association, you know, and that the tracks we
- 40:10go to are associated with that and and they couldn't be more
- 40:15cooperative to make it work. So that help we help them and
- 40:19they help us. So just want to want to give
- 40:21them credit for what they do. Yeah, and I just joined it as an
- 40:25associate member this year of the Promoters Association.
- 40:28So that's something that, you know, that was my first meeting
- 40:31where we were all together in March or whenever that was.
- 40:34And so that was pretty cool. Cool to be a part of that and
- 40:37get to experience that. And and I know you did a
- 40:39presentation there, you know about what what's going on, you
- 40:43know, the state of the club. So again, if if you haven't
- 40:47joined or have thought about joining, you get the rest of
- 40:512026 in all of 2027 for the 1 low price of $20 or for a family
- 40:58or two adults $25. And so again to sign up online
- 41:01or sign up in person. So if you're going to Winston
- 41:04this Friday or Arthur Speedway this Saturday, you can see him
- 41:09write in person and do all that. So again, that's where I I'm
- 41:12just so appreciative of John, not only as I've gotten to know
- 41:16you over the last couple of years and doing this.
- 41:19And Gary, I know you and I had a great conversation at the
- 41:22banquet this past February. No.
- 41:25When was it? February, Something like that in
- 41:28January. Yeah.
- 41:29Yeah. I all those winter months run
- 41:31together sometimes, but but I know we had an awesome
- 41:34conversation there, but I got to know you a little bit.
- 41:35So I'm excited for the the task ahead of you and and John, you
- 41:40know, thank you for again your years of service to the Michigan
- 41:44Auto Racing Fan Club. Thank you, Louis.
- 41:49Thank you Buju too. Thank.
- 41:51You for having us. Oh, no, absolutely.
- 41:53And and like I said, we'll have to, especially as we get closer
- 41:56to the banquet, we'll have to bring, you know, one or both of
- 41:59you on that way. We can, you know, promote what
- 42:01all that is about and, and how drivers can be a part of that
- 42:05because I know obviously they work with the race tracks to do
- 42:07that. But sometimes you still run into
- 42:09someone who's like, I didn't know that was a thing and I won
- 42:11a track championship. So it's like, oh, well, you
- 42:14know, here you go. Like here's how you can do that.
- 42:16So because you guys will start promoting that on Facebook here
- 42:20in a couple weeks. I mean, it's usually in the fall
- 42:22that you start pushing that. Absolutely.
- 42:24So it's hard to believe, right? We're already at the end of the
- 42:27season and, you know, I know some tracks have already crowned
- 42:29champions and some tracks over the next two to three weeks will
- 42:32be crowning their champion. So it's one way to celebrate
- 42:34your championship is to go and and be in front of hundreds of
- 42:38people to receive your kudos for a season.
- 42:42Well done. So, and I know they're already
- 42:44in the staging area, but with Bozells, I mean, Andy, you know,
- 42:48was awarded this. Was it this past banquet or
- 42:52banquet before? Previous one.
- 42:54Previous one, Yep. But I know Bryce, you know, was
- 42:56awarded there and also recognized for his championship.
- 42:59So, you know, I know the Bozells have been a part of that.
- 43:02They go each year so pretty exciting.
- 43:06They're. Great.
- 43:07Wonderful. Family.
- 43:08Absolutely. Well, again, now we get to talk
- 43:12all about Clash and Sizzlers. So that's where I just cannot
- 43:15thank you guys enough for coming on tonight and being part of
- 43:18this. And and hopefully those
- 43:19memberships start coming in for not only renewal for 2027, but
- 43:24hopefully new members too. They'll get on Buju and be like,
- 43:27did you do that yet? Did you do that yet and be like
- 43:30Stewie and Family Guy going mom, mom, mom, Buju, Buju, Buju.
- 43:35But again, thank you, John and Gary for coming on tonight to
- 43:38the Monday Night Rewind. Hey, thanks.
- 43:40We'll see you soon, I'm sure. Absolutely.
- 43:43See you guys soon. Again, head on over to the
- 43:45Michigan Auto Racing Fan Club to get registered.
- 43:49Not only for the rest of this year.
- 43:50We can take advantage of that, but then you can obviously go
- 43:53into 2027 for the 1 low cost of $20.00 for a single person or
- 43:58$25 for two adults or for a family.
- 44:01Again, just think of the savings there.
- 44:03One scheduling note that I do want to pass along Long, I was
- 44:06waiting to confirm because he has a new job out in Ohio.
- 44:09But we do have Randy Maggio Junior who will be joining us at
- 44:128:10 from Lorraine Raceway Park. They are revite, revitalizing
- 44:17Lorraine. It was closed.
- 44:19It has been closed all year, but they just had a huge event a few
- 44:22weeks ago. And they also have Trident and
- 44:24Jackpot that will be coming up. And of course, Randy's also
- 44:27behind the Great Lakes Truck Tour that will be at Flat Rock
- 44:29Speedway this coming weekend. So excited to have Randy Maggio
- 44:33Junior on. If you haven't met him yet, he's
- 44:35done a lot for the racing community and he'll be on at
- 44:398:10. I just wanted, I know he has his
- 44:41new job so I wanted to confirm with him first before we
- 44:43advertise him. But he will be on at 8:10 from
- 44:46Lorraine Raceway Park over in Ohio.
- 44:49But the crew of the hour, we're going to have Andy Bozell Racing
- 44:55joining us. And so we're going to see who's
- 44:57with us on the other side of the screen as we bring in the team
- 45:01representing Andy Bozell Racing. So I see you got race and Mason
- 45:05got Phil. Oh, we're on.
- 45:08There we go. So how are you guys doing
- 45:10tonight? Good yourself.
- 45:13Hey, we're hey, it's it's Monday and it's actually sunny.
- 45:16It's usually storming when we're on.
- 45:17So this is probably the first Monday in a long time that it's
- 45:20not been raining or storming. So I'm not complaining.
- 45:25Yeah, it's pretty nice without the humidity too.
- 45:27It's going to be a nice week. Yes, it was so sticky yesterday
- 45:31that at New Paris I'm like who ordered this?
- 45:33So. It was.
- 45:35It's not a fan but but that's where I appreciate you guys
- 45:39coming on tonight because I know we had an opening and I reached
- 45:42out to you because you're already on my to reach out list
- 45:44anyway. So I'm so appreciative of you
- 45:45guys being able to come on tonight and I know you have a
- 45:48huge race coming up this Wednesday and then obviously in
- 45:52a couple weeks again for the summer Sizzler.
- 45:54So it's really cool, Mason, you get to make your debut and
- 45:59you're leading the points now at Kalamazoo in the late models.
- 46:02So and this is what, your second like full season in the late
- 46:05model too, right, If I remember right, second full season.
- 46:08So yeah. This is my second season in a
- 46:10late model. So just crazy.
- 46:12And obviously Phil, you're a winner at the Clash and so and
- 46:16and your dad, Andy obviously just knows everything about the
- 46:20clash and has participated in each one.
- 46:22So what are you? What are you guys?
- 46:26What do you have in store for the Clash this Wednesday?
- 46:29Well, pretty cool that we're going to bring all four cars
- 46:32with Dad. Obviously he's going to drive my
- 46:34other car, the second Tony Leclair car.
- 46:36I'm going to drive my normal #8 Mason will be in the white 83
- 46:40and Bryce will be driving the RC sales and leasing O4 car.
- 46:43It's just pretty cool. Do we get to all four bring out?
- 46:46I can't thank everybody for putting this together and
- 46:48helping us. We're in the shop thrashing
- 46:50right now. It's a it's a hard test bringing
- 46:53one to the track, let alone four and Oh yeah, last last week and
- 46:57we're pretty excited for it and we're looking forward to the
- 46:59race. Well, that's where we definitely
- 47:01won't keep you too long because I like I said, I know it's
- 47:03already a last minute reach out and and you guys have a lot to
- 47:06get ready for this weekend. So that's where I do have a
- 47:11little bit of a graphic to show what we're talking.
- 47:13You know, just to talk about the Bozell clash history again, It's
- 47:16this is the, the 34th version is coming up this Wednesday back on
- 47:20a Wednesday, August 19th. But it was on August 18th and
- 47:241993 that Andy Bozell won the first one.
- 47:28I know Kalamazoo put a cool little story online about that
- 47:31and how that all came to be. But Andy has four of them, Phil
- 47:35you have two of them. And then if you think of just
- 47:38runner up finishes, Andy has 4 runner up finishes and then Phil
- 47:42you have 1. So it's not just winning.
- 47:44You guys are always in contention to make noise as part
- 47:48of this clash. And so when you have something
- 47:51like that, Phil, is there ever pressure going into a race like
- 47:56this where you know, like not only is there the history there
- 47:59of the Bozells, but now I mean, this is this is like your big
- 48:04stage for outlaw super late model racing.
- 48:07Yeah, this, this race is on our calendar every year.
- 48:11We, we put a lot of effort into this and I don't know about
- 48:14pressure, but we always want to run good there and we we make
- 48:16sure everything's right for going to this race and just
- 48:20always seem to fit our style and work good for us.
- 48:22Like you said, dad's won a lot. I've won a couple, I've won a
- 48:24couple of the sportsmen or the CRA clashes.
- 48:27Also. It just this is one of our
- 48:30favorite races of the year and it's close to home.
- 48:32Looks like we got a great field of cars.
- 48:34The weather's going to be phenomenal.
- 48:36I think it's going to be an awesome show.
- 48:38So Mason, you're making your debut, obviously you've won at
- 48:42Kalamazoo this year, your first ever win in the Late Model, and
- 48:46now you're leading the point. So for you going into this race,
- 48:49what are you looking to do? Because you've been in the
- 48:52Outlaw Late Model only a couple Times Now to this point?
- 48:57I'm just hoping to get probably a top ten finish, get some laps
- 49:00and keep leading the Rookie of the Year points and reveal the
- 49:04Hammer series. Yeah.
- 49:06Do you want to talk a little bit about that?
- 49:07Because I know we're talking about Clash, but obviously you
- 49:10have the Summer Sizzler coming up at New Paris on August 29th,
- 49:13rescheduled from the 1st. And I know you were there for a
- 49:17couple nights or for a night to get some laps in.
- 49:19So you got some laps in at New Paris, brought home, I think a
- 49:22what, 4th place or 5th place? So, you know, for your first
- 49:26time out there, that's not bad at New Paris whatsoever.
- 49:29So what? What has it been like for you,
- 49:31Mason, to get into the Reveal the Hammer series?
- 49:35The Rio, the Hammer series, it's really fun.
- 49:37I love travelling, going to different places and we go to
- 49:42normally close places around here so we can go test like in
- 49:46the limited late models and stuff.
- 49:49And again, I mean, you've just been doing so well this year.
- 49:51It's really incredible just to continue to watch your rise and
- 49:54the late models and from where you were years ago to now.
- 49:57It's I hope you recognize how special talented you are behind
- 50:02the wheel. And I mean, you've overcome some
- 50:05big challenges too, to continue that.
- 50:06So just continue to be you because your your growth.
- 50:10If you watch it on video, it's easy to see it's it's really
- 50:13impressive. So, but you also have so much
- 50:16legendary status standing in that garage with you right now.
- 50:19So Phil, obviously you talked about what this race means to
- 50:23you guys, but even for you and all your success of Outlaw Super
- 50:27Late Model racing, what class stands out to you that is your
- 50:31favorite? Whether that be a win of yours,
- 50:33your dad's win, or just a race where you walked away and maybe
- 50:36none of you won, but you're like, Dang, that was a really
- 50:38good race. For me personally, I'll have to
- 50:42say the last one I won just because the way it was
- 50:47happening, we had COVID there for a while and then Tony
- 50:49Leclair couldn't come over and then he's always wanted to win
- 50:52to comes who clashes a car owner.
- 50:53And for me be able to do that for him and get that drive him
- 50:56to Victory Lane and spend the night with them guys drinking
- 50:58some beer after the races, That one was special for me
- 51:01personally. All of them are special really
- 51:04because it's just a historic race.
- 51:06I mean, if you win the Clash, your name's on that trophy.
- 51:09Fortunately for me, working at sweeping in the future and I get
- 51:11to look at that trophy every day when I walk in and see all those
- 51:13great names on it, It's just it's a testament to history and
- 51:16the the people that have raced accounts just be with you see
- 51:18all those names on that trophy. It's just a phenomenal race.
- 51:20And hopefully they continue it for many years to come.
- 51:24Well, and I know there's a it hasn't, I don't think it's been
- 51:26announced publicly yet, but there's definitely a big name
- 51:28that's coming back to race at Kalamazoo this year for the
- 51:31Clash. And so I've been told that I'm
- 51:34sworn to secrecy that I can't say it, but I'm promise you it's
- 51:38a really huge name and there's going to be a lot of history on
- 51:40that track this coming Wednesday.
- 51:43So Bryce, I know you just joined, you've been working
- 51:45behind the scenes there. So for you, you're coming into
- 51:48your second Clash. So for you, what are what did
- 51:52you learn last year and how are you going to play that this
- 51:54year? Just the size of the race, we're
- 51:58going to have a really good field of cars.
- 52:00It's a long race, so it's going to be hard to finish.
- 52:04If you're going to finish, you're going to have a good
- 52:06finish, so. Just.
- 52:08Try to keep your car in one piece and you'll have a good car
- 52:11with you. Well, 125 laps.
- 52:14So I can't start with Phil because you're the Super veteran
- 52:18of the race. You know, how do you, how do you
- 52:20manage 125 laps? Because as you know, the last
- 52:24couple clashes, like we've had one that's just been bonkers
- 52:26where it's like green, green, green, green, green, green.
- 52:29But then we've had a couple where you know you're sitting in
- 52:32a car for a while, including one a few years ago where there's a
- 52:34fuel stop just because it was kind of like stop, go, stop, go,
- 52:37stop, go. So how do you manage as a driver
- 52:40125 laps knowing you're probably not winning on lap one?
- 52:45Yeah, you just got to keep your tires under you.
- 52:47That's the big part. If you can have tires at the end
- 52:49of the race, you'll be in a good position.
- 52:51Keep hydrated. Being comfortable is the biggest
- 52:54thing. If you can be comfortable,
- 52:56you'll be fast. Comfort, I don't comfort in AI
- 53:02mean that's just sitting in that outlaw right going at those
- 53:06speeds. I don't know I I watch those
- 53:08onboard cameras and I'm like I get nervous, you know, just
- 53:11because I I'm nervous for you guys in there.
- 53:13I'm like, man, they're just book in it and and I don't think
- 53:16sometimes fans, I mean we obviously see it and you're
- 53:19going in circles, you're doing like quick laps and everything,
- 53:21but to actually experience it from an on board, you're like,
- 53:24that's what they really go through in a race like this.
- 53:26And I know Phil, you kind of talked about the first time I
- 53:28had a camera with you, you're like, I always laid my head, you
- 53:31know, and you mentioned that you're you're always leaning in
- 53:33your head. But one thing that always in the
- 53:38picture is the name of the car. So which car name are you
- 53:42bringing this week, Phil to Wednesday because you've had I'm
- 53:45bringing. I'm bringing my old girl cello
- 53:48again. That's like, OK, so like my
- 53:50favorite girlfriend, that won't go away.
- 53:51It's been a good car ever since. We've got it done our own thing
- 53:56to it, did a little work to it and that car's won a lot of
- 53:59races. We switched that car last year,
- 54:01had at the big track car over Owosso and this winter we
- 54:03switched it back to put the smaller motor in it and rented
- 54:06out the smaller tracks. We were going to plan on running
- 54:08Sophia at the bigger tracks but had some motor issues.
- 54:13So where do the name? Back in that motor, back in
- 54:15that. So my dad's going to run Sophia
- 54:17and I'm going to bring Stella. Oh, all right, so Sophia will
- 54:21still be there, but you'll be behind Stella.
- 54:25So where do the names come from? We've always had a thing.
- 54:29We've always wanted to name all our race cars, and mine have
- 54:32always started with an S and they were girls names.
- 54:34We've got some other ones. My dad's car that Mason's
- 54:36driving that's called Jackpot, Bryce's car.
- 54:39We named that one Ruby just because of the color red and
- 54:41white. All of our cars got names.
- 54:44Some of them got different meanings, some of them come from
- 54:46different places, but they all got to have a name.
- 54:49Well, and I know that's someone asked for like they can tell
- 54:53it's it's your car, even if I didn't put Phil Bozell on there
- 54:57because they're like, oh, the name's right there on the dash
- 55:00so you can see Stella or Sophia. I think I've been in Sophia too.
- 55:04So that's something that I, I had someone ask me before and I
- 55:08went, I don't remember where the names come from, but I'll ask.
- 55:11And then I just keep forgetting to ask.
- 55:12But I'm like, I remember because we were just talking about all
- 55:14the cars. And I'm like, oh, asked if
- 55:16someone asked me before. But but that's where you know, I
- 55:20mean, I know you said before every car must have a name.
- 55:23So, so with that, Mason, what are you hoping to to do this
- 55:30Wednesday? Like obviously you said top ten
- 55:32and everything, but for 125 laps this is probably what your
- 55:35longest race they've raced so far to this point.
- 55:39I'm hoping just to say my tires just a little bit, hopefully
- 55:42finish I all I'm trying to do is just get some laps in honestly.
- 55:48Oh yeah, well, you'll get 125 of them it sounds like, right.
- 55:51So I mean, that's again, I want to make sure because I saw some
- 55:54comments coming and I want to make sure that it wasn't like a
- 55:56question or anything. Oh no, they're just talking
- 55:58about like, add their name to the list and all that.
- 56:01I want to make sure I wasn't missing anyone's question.
- 56:04But again, I, I know we're getting close here because you
- 56:07guys are thrashing away, so I don't want to keep you any too
- 56:10much longer. But I see Andy's coming into the
- 56:12picture So. And he's standing today.
- 56:15I don't know, Bougie, did I tell you that a few weeks ago at New
- 56:17Paris, Andy was sitting and I went over to him.
- 56:19I'm like, are you OK? Like I've never seen him sit
- 56:23before. So.
- 56:24Yeah, I didn't know that what happened.
- 56:26So I so that turned into like a fun little thing because he's
- 56:30like, I'm just relaxing. I'm chilling.
- 56:31So I'm like, I just I've never seen you sitting.
- 56:34So Andy, obviously you've been a part of history with the Clash.
- 56:40You've been at every single one. You're coming back for the 34th.
- 56:43So for you having your name not only etched in history of the
- 56:46Clash, what are the what are the big goals that you have coming
- 56:50into this Wednesday's 34th version?
- 56:54You know, the main goal is to go out and have fun.
- 56:56You know, I mean that that's what we do every time we go to
- 56:58race. And it's going to be fun to
- 57:01participate with the grandsons, you know, and, and with Phil and
- 57:04just, you know, add to the memories of the Clash.
- 57:08You know, I go way back to the first Clash.
- 57:11I mean, there's been some good racers.
- 57:13You know, Mick Schuler, the announcer back then, he promoted
- 57:15a lot of big races. We've had Tim Steele, we've had
- 57:18Matt Kenseth, we've had Bob Seneker, we've had Butch Miller,
- 57:21we've had, I mean, just the, the, the, the name Gary St.
- 57:25Aman, Mike Yetty. So you go, you go through the
- 57:28people that have raced in a clash and literally it's it's a
- 57:32history on on short track racing in the Midwest, to be honest
- 57:35with you. Well, and that's the first
- 57:38winner of this and you've won it four times.
- 57:40And we were showing a graphic where you've been runner up a
- 57:42couple times too, including a famous runner up on the last lap
- 57:45past for you what one of those or maybe all of them?
- 57:51But is there one that stands out the most You like when you think
- 57:54back about your career and being literally the fastest man you
- 57:58know on earth with your record at Kalamazoo lap and all these
- 58:01other things like all this history that you have with you.
- 58:03Out of those those clash wins, which one stands out to you or
- 58:08which ones? Well, there's a there's a couple
- 58:11of them. The the first one obvious was
- 58:13pretty cool. It was, you know, promoted
- 58:15really well and it was it was, you know, a a pretty well
- 58:20promoted event and it was the first one of its kind.
- 58:22It was Wednesday night show and, you know, the place was packed
- 58:25and had a lot of racers. I think there was 67 cars at the
- 58:28first class. So being able to win that was a
- 58:32really good memory. The second one would be the last
- 58:36one that I won. You know, we LED LED 197 to 200
- 58:40laps in that race. So it was, it was, you know,
- 58:43they threw the green flag and we qualified for. 200 times.
- 58:48Race with Freddie Campbell, had some great races with Chris or
- 58:51Mike. Ben Speerintack, you know,
- 58:54probably gave away a couple of these things by being a
- 58:56respectful racer with some guys that I had a lot of respect for.
- 58:59But but nevertheless, it's been a great race for me.
- 59:03Well, and that's probably why, though, that you have so much
- 59:05respect from people, right, because you're not going to go
- 59:07out there and trash people to get a win, right, like you're
- 59:11going to and and that's true for everyone standing in this
- 59:14picture, right, Like, or maybe I missed something that you guys
- 59:18did at a time. But anytime I watch you erase,
- 59:20right is there's a lot of respect behind that wheel and
- 59:22you can hear it when Mason and Bryce talk to you know, so
- 59:27obviously everyone is getting that same lesson.
- 59:29The what was it AI intelligent or AI Andy intelligence, as we
- 59:34called it, that accounts you a few weeks ago.
- 59:37So you know with that is this may be the first time that three
- 59:42generations of Bozell's will be or any family 3 generations will
- 59:46be all on the track one time and then you throw in Mason 4th
- 59:49generation. Yeah, well, you know, we're,
- 59:53we're 4th generation with the grandsons.
- 59:55You know, my my dad started racing in 1955.
- 59:57So goes back quite a ways. You know, a long, long history
- 1:00:02here in Michigan with, with our family my sister Katie raised.
- 1:00:06You know, quite often when she was a teenager when, when
- 1:00:10really, you know, girls weren't even allowed in the pits at that
- 1:00:13point in time, so. So you know.
- 1:00:15A lot of interesting changes has took place in the short track
- 1:00:17racing industry. It's just it's just kind of
- 1:00:20really nice to reminisce about our activities and our
- 1:00:23belongings and short track racing and and continue to make
- 1:00:26those memories. Now before we let you guys go, I
- 1:00:29know Bougie's been quiet. I keep, you know, just go into
- 1:00:33the questions as I'm thinking, Babuju, what do you have for the
- 1:00:36guys? I was just curious how special
- 1:00:38it is for Andy and Phil, for Andy especially, to get to race
- 1:00:40with your grandkids at this stage of your career.
- 1:00:42I mean, all you've accomplished in your career and now at this
- 1:00:44point, like you said, you get to go out and have fun and race
- 1:00:46with your grandkids and your son all at the same time.
- 1:00:49So that has to be pretty cool at this stage of your career, no?
- 1:00:51Yeah, it's, it's pretty cool. You know, we've been, we've had
- 1:00:53an opportunity to do it a couple of times.
- 1:00:55We've done it at Corrigan Oil Speedway a couple of times and
- 1:00:58but as far as in the Super Late Models, which is, you know, the
- 1:01:01pinnacle these race cars around here, being able to race with
- 1:01:04them in in the Super Late Models and at the Clash is going to
- 1:01:08going to be pretty cool for me. That's where you find the time
- 1:01:12to take it all in, right? You know, always keep those
- 1:01:14memories because it just doesn't happen all that often.
- 1:01:18We have so many generations of one family on one track at the
- 1:01:21same time who are all equally talented individually and as a
- 1:01:26collective whole. I mean, there's there's a lot of
- 1:01:29race families in area, but certainly the Bozo crew has a
- 1:01:33lot of legacy, you know, behind the name and just with the Clash
- 1:01:36itself. So again, just I'm excited to
- 1:01:40watch this opportunity happen for you guys.
- 1:01:44Yeah, there, there's going to be a, there's going to be a pile of
- 1:01:46history at this clash. I mean, you got, you know, some
- 1:01:49some champ pass champions and the Rorgs.
- 1:01:51I mean, the Rorg family has got a great history going all the
- 1:01:54way back to Dave Rorg back in the Super modified days many,
- 1:01:57many moons ago. And you know, just Bobby Blunt's
- 1:02:00going to have a car there. You know, his family's got, you
- 1:02:03know, great history and racing. So just just it'll be cool.
- 1:02:08I've got some I got some checkered flags of the three
- 1:02:10clashes that I've won. It's got most all the signatures
- 1:02:13of all the drivers on them. I'm, I'm going to try to bring
- 1:02:15them out and display them this Wednesday just to kind of let
- 1:02:17people see, you know, just Joe Shear, he breaks the clash.
- 1:02:22I mean, just just the, the, the, the, the raw talent and the
- 1:02:26history that the drivers that have participated in the clash
- 1:02:28is just, it's amazing really for, for a small little short
- 1:02:31track. I mean, you know, there, there's
- 1:02:32a lot of great short tracks in the United States have great big
- 1:02:35races. And I think Calum Zoo's clash
- 1:02:37ranked right up there with all of them.
- 1:02:40Yeah, and you're, and if I remember correctly too, you've
- 1:02:42also won like the new pair of Sizzler.
- 1:02:44And I think Phil did you? I'm trying to remember the
- 1:02:46graphic, but did you win the Sizzler too?
- 1:02:48Like so? I mean, when you even think in
- 1:02:50this area itself, right? I mean, winning the big ones,
- 1:02:54you guys always seem to show up on the biggest stage for them
- 1:02:56all and do so well at it. Yep, yeah, Mommy and Phil both
- 1:03:00won the Sizzler. I won the second one, I believe.
- 1:03:03And I don't remember what your Phil wanted, but we participated
- 1:03:05in that race quite a bit. So another great little short
- 1:03:09track race in New Paris is a great little bull ring.
- 1:03:11It's just so much fun race in there.
- 1:03:12So hopefully, hopefully they can continue these traditions and
- 1:03:16keep these races alive for a long time.
- 1:03:19Again this Wednesday, Kalamazoo clashed the 34th edition and
- 1:03:23it's I mean, wouldn't it be cool Buju that August 18th was the
- 1:03:28first one and if someone in this picture on August 19th and it's
- 1:03:32returned to Wednesday is able to take this home.
- 1:03:35So you just never know, right? Anything can happen on any given
- 1:03:38day and it's 125 laps and definitely a marathon out there.
- 1:03:42So before I forget if if any one of you wants to shout out who's
- 1:03:47helping to bring us all together with your sponsors.
- 1:03:49I know you guys are always incredible with your social
- 1:03:51media shouting out the sponsors. So I figured let's definitely
- 1:03:53take this time and then I'm going to let you guys get going
- 1:03:56because like I said, I know you're working hard and you made
- 1:03:58time for us tonight. So I don't I want to keep you
- 1:04:01any longer. So who are the sponsors?
- 1:04:03We we got we got a lot of great marketing partners, you know,
- 1:04:07DNL Transport, Diamond Auto Sales, Elaine Automotive, Amsoil
- 1:04:13by Dan Nim's next generation lawn care, All Star performance,
- 1:04:16just FK rod insurance, just the the number of of people that
- 1:04:19that helps our racing program out.
- 1:04:22You know, it takes a village. You know, this is not easy to
- 1:04:24field as many cars. So the sponsors are a big thing.
- 1:04:27We got some great, great crew members.
- 1:04:31Ron Finkbinder, Todd Wilcox, you know, Bubba Brooks, you, you
- 1:04:35take, you take the people that are leading these youngsters out
- 1:04:38here in these cars right now. And we've got well over 100
- 1:04:40years combined experience. So it's pretty cool.
- 1:04:43It's pretty cool to be able to guide them along with that much
- 1:04:46experience. And the mentorship is a big
- 1:04:48deal. And that's what's going to make
- 1:04:51the younger racers come up in the up in the ranks and and be
- 1:04:53good racers. Oh yeah, like I said, just
- 1:04:57anytime you guys are on the track and that's when I saw that
- 1:05:00you, Andy, were coming to race to your 34th edition.
- 1:05:02I'm like, oh boy, this, this has just picked up.
- 1:05:05So you know, it's pretty exciting anytime you get behind
- 1:05:07the wheel, you know, cuz you're you're again, you're the
- 1:05:11fastest. You helped put Kalamazoo on the
- 1:05:13map and you know, with the record speed and watching that
- 1:05:17camera do its thing as you're zooming around there.
- 1:05:20I mean, just so much history, you know, right now.
- 1:05:22And like I said, Mason and Bryce, I mean, if there's any
- 1:05:26conversations with them, you can definitely tell they're being
- 1:05:28mentored the right way and and learning the way to do things to
- 1:05:32be successful. So huge kudos to not only you,
- 1:05:35Andy, but obviously Phil and your and your entire crew.
- 1:05:37Again, 100 years plus of experience.
- 1:05:40Not a lot of pit areas have that, but it's it's definitely
- 1:05:42paying off. Yes it is.
- 1:05:45Yes, it is. Well, again, like I said, I know
- 1:05:48you guys are working on those cars and you made time for us so
- 1:05:50I don't want to keep you any longer cuz I, I know one more
- 1:05:53minute on camera is one more minute that car is not getting
- 1:05:55worked on. So again, it's it's Monday and
- 1:05:59you got to be there Wednesday. So I'll let you guys get going,
- 1:06:01but again, I'll see you definitely for sure this
- 1:06:04Wednesday at Kalamazoo. But if I don't get a chance to
- 1:06:08say it when I'm walking around, good luck to everybody because
- 1:06:11this, I mean, it's a clash. There's nothing more you need to
- 1:06:13say about it. It's Kalamazoo Clash and it's
- 1:06:15back on a Wednesday for the first time in a long time.
- 1:06:17So almost time to turn left and go fast.
- 1:06:21Yeah, it's go time. Time to go back to work.
- 1:06:23Yep. All right.
- 1:06:24Well, again, thank you to everyone joining us tonight and
- 1:06:27we will definitely see you guys on Wednesday.
- 1:06:29Sounds good fellas. Thanks for having us.
- 1:06:31Yep. Oh.
- 1:06:32Absolutely. Yeah.
- 1:06:33No thank you. So again, just to show the
- 1:06:35history of the Bozell crew, Andy has four wins and then Phil has
- 1:06:41two wins and Andy also has 4 runner UPS and Phil has 1 runner
- 1:06:45up. So there's a lot of history that
- 1:06:47was just on camera with us and I appreciate them taking time out
- 1:06:50of their day and night to join us.
- 1:06:52And so that's where I no one in their shop.
- 1:06:54It's like Buju, I don't want to keep them any longer.
- 1:06:57You know, definitely have to bring them back on just to talk
- 1:06:59about their history in itself. I do want to do one more quick
- 1:07:03shout out that Randy will be joining us soon.
- 1:07:06I was checking messages to just to make sure everybody said he's
- 1:07:10coming on at 8:10, but Randy Maggio from Lorraine Raceway
- 1:07:13Park. So if you're thinking about
- 1:07:14possibly going to the Trident or the jackpot, that's a huge race
- 1:07:18for them at Lorraine with the Modifieds, Crown Vics, front
- 1:07:22wheel drives and St. Stocks.
- 1:07:23So he'll be coming on. Talk about that.
- 1:07:25But they also have the Great Lakes Tour that he's a part of
- 1:07:27and they have a race at Flat Rock and then they have
- 1:07:30Cavalcade at the end of the year.
- 1:07:32So they're bringing a revival and then it's to my
- 1:07:35understanding, it's going to be full time back in 2027.
- 1:07:38So we'll definitely see what details we can get from Randy
- 1:07:42when he joins us here shortly. Step back to that Bozell
- 1:07:47interview. We've had some great guests on
- 1:07:48this show or some big guests on this show, including Kenny
- 1:07:50Wallace, who is a NASCAR. I've never been as nervous as I
- 1:07:53watched when Andy Bozell walked up instead of camera, I don't
- 1:07:56know if I was visible. I was sweating.
- 1:07:58I was sweating. Can't tell you're sweating but.
- 1:08:01Legend. Of all legends right there dude.
- 1:08:03The fastest man of all time You. Know what I'm saying?
- 1:08:06And that's where, you know, again, for this is our 27th
- 1:08:09episode, right? It's, you know, we don't have
- 1:08:11years and years and years of doing this.
- 1:08:13This is their 27th episode. And in 27 episodes, just think
- 1:08:19of who we've been able to bring on.
- 1:08:21Oh, I know, right. And you know, we brought in
- 1:08:25series from Wisconsin. We're getting ready to go out to
- 1:08:28Ohio. We've had Illinois on, we've had
- 1:08:32obviously Kenny Wallace on, we've had drivers from around
- 1:08:36the area. We had a 2 hour discussion about
- 1:08:38a night of destruction that did 6000 views.
- 1:08:42Two hours just talking night of destruction and that had over
- 1:08:466000 views. And we let DJ Mccotter on here.
- 1:08:50Who? Else is going to do that.
- 1:08:51Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, you know, it's one of those
- 1:08:53that, you know, I'm really proud and excited for what we've been
- 1:08:58able to build not only 27 episodes, but I mean, think of
- 1:09:01the number of times that we've had Hartford on and, and I
- 1:09:05almost brought on Leah, but I know they're they're, they're
- 1:09:08really hurt. They I'm not going to go into
- 1:09:11detail on the driver because I'm not going to call him out, but
- 1:09:15it's a driver who decided to screen record entire races from
- 1:09:18my YouTube and post them to their page.
- 1:09:20And I let it go. But after reading their Facebook
- 1:09:23posts and everything, I went and I did copyright claims against
- 1:09:25their page. So I'm like, oh, you're going to
- 1:09:28trash talk Hartford and I'm aligned very closely with
- 1:09:31Hartford. So now enjoy the copyright
- 1:09:33strikes on your page. You're very welcome.
- 1:09:35Thank you. Come again and because I'm not
- 1:09:38going to deal with that the the post and then the comments that
- 1:09:41I read, I'm not going to go into details that people know they
- 1:09:43know, but I'm not going to rehash it any further.
- 1:09:45I was so hurt for Hartford and I know they're, you know, they're
- 1:09:48not doing well this year. No, most race tracks are not
- 1:09:52doing well this year financially.
- 1:09:53And and for some reason you see people talk about night
- 1:09:56instructions. Well, they make so much money.
- 1:09:59So Buju, let's do some math. And you don't need Common Core
- 1:10:01math to do this. This is just addition and
- 1:10:04subtraction. No.
- 1:10:06And take it from someone who's taught Common Core math, yeah,
- 1:10:09this is just basic 3rd grade math, 4th grade math because
- 1:10:12it's it's multi digits. So when you do whole digit, you
- 1:10:17know, 4 digit plus whole numbers, that's 4th grade math.
- 1:10:19And the state of Michigan and I think Indiana too.
- 1:10:22But let's say at a night of destruction, they profited
- 1:10:25$20,000. But the three previous show,
- 1:10:28they've lost anywhere from 8000 to $10,000 each show.
- 1:10:32So that $20,000 is going to do a Dang thing because they've lost
- 1:10:36up to this point, right? So I just don't think people
- 1:10:39understand and it's so easy. And, and I know having Randy on,
- 1:10:43he just joined, I'm going to let him get set up.
- 1:10:45But obviously they dealt with issues like this at Lorraine and
- 1:10:47Painesville, where, you know, they bust their butt and
- 1:10:50Painesville is being leased this year with a different group.
- 1:10:53But Maggio's, to my understanding, still own it.
- 1:10:55He could correct me if I'm wrong, but that's something
- 1:10:58that, you know, they've dealt with social media blowback on
- 1:11:00some things that like literally Randy's sitting on the ground
- 1:11:04cutting wire for timing and scoring and you know, people RIP
- 1:11:08them apart. It's like, you know, just go
- 1:11:09have a conversation. You don't need to RIP them apart
- 1:11:12on Facebook. It's so easy to oh, that race
- 1:11:15tractor. I hate that race tractor.
- 1:11:16I'm going to go to Facebook and type about it.
- 1:11:18You're hurting. There's in Wisconsin.
- 1:11:21I so I typed a really long post today that I didn't post but it
- 1:11:26felt good to type because I just needed to type it.
- 1:11:29And but there's a this happened in Wisconsin.
- 1:11:32There is a team that they almost lost his sponsor, a $25,000
- 1:11:37sponsor who funds their team. They were going to that sponsor
- 1:11:40is going to pull $25,000 from them because of what a racer and
- 1:11:45a fan posted about that team. Well it turns out what that
- 1:11:48racer and what that fan posted and that racer was bragging
- 1:11:52415,000 people have seen this post and all these things.
- 1:11:56Not only did the racetrack come out with video footage and
- 1:11:59photos, but then other whitenesses said this is not
- 1:12:03even anything that happened. So that racer who posted this
- 1:12:06was just plain victim for something they did.
- 1:12:09Didn't think they got caught doing it, but they went and
- 1:12:11bashed and did all the things. The sponsor saw that and said if
- 1:12:14that's my the reputation of that my team that I sponsor, I'm
- 1:12:17going to pull my funding. So A-Team lost almost $25,000
- 1:12:21because a competitor essentially lied about an incident that
- 1:12:25happened on the race track. Yeah, just think about that.
- 1:12:29Yeah, that's we talk about thinking before you post and
- 1:12:34using your head when it comes to social media all the time.
- 1:12:37And unfortunately, I don't think it's getting better, Louis.
- 1:12:40No, and it feels like I think. We're screaming into the void at
- 1:12:43this point. I just.
- 1:12:44What? I think that's a thing, and this
- 1:12:46is part of what I was typing, that I didn't post.
- 1:12:48Supporters do it in silence. Supporters aren't the ones that
- 1:12:52are all over Facebook doing all the things.
- 1:12:54They do it in silence. It's the critics, or as Donny
- 1:12:57Ritter calls them, critters. It's the critters who are on
- 1:13:01Facebook, trolls who are on Facebook.
- 1:13:04And they seem like the majority. But in real reality, they're,
- 1:13:09they're the blip. It's like if there's a heart
- 1:13:11monitor, they're like the little doodad that didn't do anything.
- 1:13:15But they're exhausting. And that's the thing that, you
- 1:13:18know, that's why I wanted to give kudos to Hartford.
- 1:13:22You know, again, I feel for Tim and Leah because they pour their
- 1:13:24heart and souls into that racetrack.
- 1:13:26And they could have, they could have made it a dispensary a few
- 1:13:29years ago. They could have sold that left
- 1:13:31away with a nice fat check. And oh, maybe not a fat check,
- 1:13:35but it would have been a nice check.
- 1:13:37And, you know, and they probably still wouldn't have even got
- 1:13:40their investment back, but they would have been out and they
- 1:13:42wouldn't have to deal with the social media backlash or
- 1:13:44anything like that, that people always seem to have.
- 1:13:46And it's people who never volunteer themselves to go to
- 1:13:48the track. It's people who, you know, can't
- 1:13:51even afford a pit pass sometimes and they're begging people for a
- 1:13:53pit pass, but they'll be they'll want to track to lose $10,000.
- 1:13:57So it's so frustrating. And that's why even doing the
- 1:14:01live at New Paris on Sunday, the first, the first thing I did is
- 1:14:05parts is when I saw all those cars in the pit area, I got out
- 1:14:07and I'm like, all right, for all the people who said they only
- 1:14:10have 10 cars or 20 cars, here's your proof.
- 1:14:13They have more than that. I wish we had more fans, but you
- 1:14:15know, filled in nicely and there's a lot of tracks who take
- 1:14:17that number of fans for normal shows.
- 1:14:19So it's like, you know, come on people.
- 1:14:22But I know it's now 813. I went on a little bit of a
- 1:14:25soapbox, but I know Randy Mazzio Junior has dealt with us over at
- 1:14:28Lorraine and certainly had one way to end the Trident last year
- 1:14:33in excitement. And so, you know, that was
- 1:14:34really exhausting for them. And watching all that unfold for
- 1:14:38a track that was doing everything they could, I just
- 1:14:40felt bad. It's like, man, you know,
- 1:14:42Randy's out here pouring his heart and soul, like I said the
- 1:14:44year before, the jackpot literally sitting on the ground
- 1:14:47fixing timing and scoring because if it could go wrong,
- 1:14:50everything went wrong for them that day.
- 1:14:52And they found out Matt Dimmitt hit a turtle, so they buried the
- 1:14:55turtle because it's not good to hit a turtle.
- 1:14:57And so anyways, let's go ahead because I see he's set up and
- 1:15:01everything. Don't mind the Cleveland Browns
- 1:15:03stuff behind him. We won't judge him on air.
- 1:15:06We'll wait until off air. But.
- 1:15:07Again, how did that go the other day?
- 1:15:10So let's bring on Randy Maggio, junior from Lorraine Raceway
- 1:15:13Park. I'm going to make sure I hit the
- 1:15:14right graphic. Got the right graphic, Randy.
- 1:15:16So welcome to the Monday Night Rewind.
- 1:15:19What's up guys? How are you?
- 1:15:21Hey, good. How about you?
- 1:15:23I mean you. You're busy.
- 1:15:25Yeah, yeah, life's life's looking a little different
- 1:15:28lately, but it's still staying busy, still kind of sun up
- 1:15:32sundown, just in a different way, but.
- 1:15:35Well, that's where you just got married not too long ago, right?
- 1:15:38Getting married in October. Married in October.
- 1:15:40Yeah, close. That's reverse.
- 1:15:42But but you cuz I thought cuz I know one time you were at like a
- 1:15:48bachelor party or whatever that. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:51So I think I had it reversed. But yeah, getting married soon,
- 1:15:54but also bringing back Lorraine Raceway Park.
- 1:15:57Obviously with Painesville this year it's leased out where you
- 1:16:00guys did that agreement over the winter.
- 1:16:02But with Lorraine last year, you were very honest with everyone
- 1:16:05that, hey, you know, things aren't things aren't going well
- 1:16:08and we're race by race and got to see what we can do.
- 1:16:12But obviously it's been sitting for most of the year.
- 1:16:15You brought it back and holy smokes.
- 1:16:18Yeah, it go ahead. No, no.
- 1:16:20So we it was definitely different like you said,
- 1:16:25Painzel's were releasing Painzel out for my dog's trying to get
- 1:16:29in this, but we back back. So we we leased out Painzel for
- 1:16:36three years. It's a three-year contract and
- 1:16:38stuff. And Scott Skufka, local racer,
- 1:16:41local St. Stack racer actually won the B
- 1:16:43main at Trident last year. So that was actually pretty
- 1:16:45cool. And that's that weekend was
- 1:16:47honestly when we started talking about that.
- 1:16:49So we were like, oh, well, he just went out winning kind of
- 1:16:52thing. So he they, him and his family
- 1:16:56took over. They're doing a great job.
- 1:16:59They just had a memorial night for a younger guy, Zach
- 1:17:04Broncola, that actually passed away a few years ago that we
- 1:17:07started the tradition of a memorial race.
- 1:17:09They kept they kept it going. So see my dad, a good car count,
- 1:17:12good crowd. So I was very, very happy for
- 1:17:14that. But so they're doing great out
- 1:17:17there. They had a destruction night,
- 1:17:18had some local radio people come on or come out and the place was
- 1:17:24absolutely packed. Like and it seems like I to a
- 1:17:30fault, I hate destruction nights.
- 1:17:32I'm more of a race fan. So I'm my, I was never able to
- 1:17:37promote them well enough and I just, I don't know, I would kind
- 1:17:41of try to forget about it honestly.
- 1:17:42But even though it would make us the most money probably or close
- 1:17:46to it, but it just, I, I didn't like them so, but they promoted
- 1:17:50it great. They had, like I said, radio ads
- 1:17:52and stuff like that. It was standing room only pretty
- 1:17:54much. But yeah.
- 1:17:55So we Lorraine's back for three races this year.
- 1:18:00I'm actually finishing up like our, I guess you can say card or
- 1:18:04whatever you want to call it, all the information and stuff
- 1:18:07like that. For our next one, September
- 1:18:0826th, it's going to be the Trident and the Jackpot
- 1:18:11combined. So normally those events would
- 1:18:14bring me bad luck. So we'll see if we put two of
- 1:18:16them together, hopefully it's going to be good luck.
- 1:18:18So, but yeah, we're really excited.
- 1:18:20We have really good people behind us that kind of joined
- 1:18:23us. They're the Wittenbergers.
- 1:18:26They are from Hook and Hall Towing out in Litchfield.
- 1:18:28OH and they wanted to see the track come back.
- 1:18:31They just kind of seem like they enjoyed what we used to do and
- 1:18:35stuff like that. They had a lot of fresh ideas.
- 1:18:36So we started talking to them and they just wanted to
- 1:18:39basically partner up for this year and see kind of where it
- 1:18:42leads us. So they're everyone was pumped
- 1:18:44up about it last, I guess it was last weekend, 2 weekends ago
- 1:18:49now. It was a huge turn out car wise
- 1:18:52and fan wise. So I think it really got the
- 1:18:56pump. I got the flood, flood flowing
- 1:18:58again and pumping. So I think it it brought life
- 1:19:01back to that small race track. So we're very excited.
- 1:19:04Well, that's something with, you know, the jackpot and and the
- 1:19:08Trident. You know, two of your babies
- 1:19:10that you came out and you had some different formats for them,
- 1:19:13right. You ran a format, then you try
- 1:19:14to like the two day version and that kind of deal.
- 1:19:17So now you're bringing them back together as one, you know, we
- 1:19:21can kind of blow out in a way. And So what can people expect
- 1:19:24from this version of the Trident and the Jackpot?
- 1:19:27Yeah, so I, I think what really made both of the races was the
- 1:19:33format. It's different.
- 1:19:35You know, you would heat races normally around us don't mean
- 1:19:38anything. So we kind of went like how dirt
- 1:19:40is to an extent and made it mean something, made qualifying mean
- 1:19:44something. So it it's going to be the same
- 1:19:48thing. We're going to do the cool
- 1:19:49format and everything for both modifieds and streestocks, but
- 1:19:53everyone else we're just running features only.
- 1:19:55So my toxic trait is, well, two of them.
- 1:19:59I always say that I'm a whore for car count.
- 1:20:01So I want to, so I want to make sure.
- 1:20:04So I want to make sure that like the rules are a certain way that
- 1:20:07anyone can race and you know, if we have to add weight, whatever
- 1:20:09we have to do. So I've always said that, but
- 1:20:12then also the other one is that I can't say no.
- 1:20:15So especially when people want to race and they, you know, like
- 1:20:19like compacts or so like support divisions, they're only going to
- 1:20:22be running features only. And I think it's going to it's
- 1:20:25going to be a decent purse for them and everything like that.
- 1:20:28So, but it's going to be in front of us, probably sold out
- 1:20:30crowd, if I had to guess. So it's, it's one of those
- 1:20:34things where like, hey, I'm going to give you guys extra
- 1:20:36laps and for the feature, but I'm also going to give you like
- 1:20:39all you guys are coming back for cavalcade at the end in October.
- 1:20:41So it's going to be like a, you know, I, I wish I could have
- 1:20:45said no to some divisions, but I think we're only going to have,
- 1:20:48I think 5 or five. I think it's supposed to be 4.
- 1:20:51We'll have 5 or it's supposed to be 5.
- 1:20:52We're going to have six. I'm it's not going to be that
- 1:20:54bad. But what I've found lately is
- 1:20:56that one day shows are kind of where it's at.
- 1:20:58You know, you're going to have practice on Friday, get everyone
- 1:21:00loaded in and stuff like that. But yes, the pit pass money for
- 1:21:05two days might be better from a financial standpoint.
- 1:21:07But like I was at Owosso's big modified race with my buddy
- 1:21:12Brandon but two months ago or something like that and it was,
- 1:21:17they do an awesome job there. Obviously the facility is
- 1:21:20amazing. It just seemed like it was so
- 1:21:23drawn out. I guess you can say.
- 1:21:25I mean, I think part of that too is that they're expecting a lot
- 1:21:27more cars. So I think that that kind of
- 1:21:29made it seem that way. But I but we had we had a lot of
- 1:21:35I guess like so we for both those try to in jackpot.
- 1:21:38We had the first races that we ever had with them.
- 1:21:42It was path. It was like a lot of cars and
- 1:21:44everything. Then I don't want to say I got
- 1:21:46greedy, but I was like hey, OK, in order to afford this big
- 1:21:48purse, we need to maybe make it a 2 day show.
- 1:21:51And then the car con dwindled. So I think it's gonna, it's
- 1:21:55gonna be a one day show. We're just gonna push the
- 1:21:57absolute hell of it. No intermission, just boom,
- 1:21:59boom, boom. So I think we'll be fine,
- 1:22:02especially at the racers help me out a little bit and races
- 1:22:05Queens. I did last time, but yeah, so
- 1:22:07we're excited. Format's going to stay the same
- 1:22:09with try and jackpot, the cool heat races meaning something,
- 1:22:13everything like that. And then features only we're
- 1:22:15going to have legend cars, ace racing league compacts, and I'm
- 1:22:19probably missing one more, but but yeah, so it's a oh, the
- 1:22:24Great Lakes Truck Tour. So so we're going to have six
- 1:22:27divisions, but features only for a few of them.
- 1:22:29So I think it'll it's going to be a good show.
- 1:22:32I'm really excited to see what the croccon's going to be too.
- 1:22:34When you can't say no to yourself, right?
- 1:22:37And that's part of the the Great Lakes Truck Tour, which is the
- 1:22:39one you forgot to mention. So you're like, Oh yeah, that
- 1:22:42one that I also do. So obviously I know you're
- 1:22:44coming to Flat Rock. So to kind of put a pin for a
- 1:22:48moment and and try it in and jackpot.
- 1:22:50If you want to talk a little bit about, you know, how you have
- 1:22:53stayed busy with the Truck Tour, just to kind of segue a little
- 1:22:56bit and then what kind of come back since you said it, I'm
- 1:22:58like, oh, that's kind of like perfect.
- 1:22:59Let's bring that up because you might not be at a race check
- 1:23:02every week, but you've definitely got the Tour going.
- 1:23:05So yeah, you want to talk about that?
- 1:23:06Yeah. So we've obviously this year
- 1:23:09you've seen a lot of traveling series kind of, I don't want to
- 1:23:12say struggle, but definitely lacked a few cars here and
- 1:23:14there. So a lot of our truck guys are
- 1:23:17very low budget. It seems like they're kind of
- 1:23:20mixed. Half of them really want to
- 1:23:21travel, go to like places like Winchester and like they've
- 1:23:25been, they like when there was ARCA trucks, they went like
- 1:23:28Iowa, Rockingham, like big tracks like that.
- 1:23:31But then you have a lot of, I would say the majority of them
- 1:23:33just want to stay local. So we had two shows so far that
- 1:23:37was at Painesville, had both races.
- 1:23:40We had ONA got cancelled I believe due to rain.
- 1:23:44I believe there's, we had like 3 or 4 shows cancelled, 2 because
- 1:23:48of rain, 2 because truthfully, like we just didn't have enough
- 1:23:51trucks. You know, we maybe had five or
- 1:23:54six travelling. But to me, I don't want to, as a
- 1:23:58track promoter as well, I don't want to be that guy that says,
- 1:24:01oh, I got 12 and then show up with five or six and then
- 1:24:04they're going to be pissed off at us and it's going to be like
- 1:24:06leave a bad taste in the mouth. So I've had people do that to
- 1:24:10me. So I don't want to do that to
- 1:24:11them. So I'm very honest with them.
- 1:24:13I'll message them a few weeks prior and go like, hey, looking
- 1:24:16good. Hey, not looking good.
- 1:24:18Like me and Brandon Hamby from Flat Ride, we talked I'd say
- 1:24:21probably 2 weeks ago or something like that.
- 1:24:22And I said I was like, hey, I know you know, we haven't raced
- 1:24:25that much, but there is like everyone's pumped about Flat
- 1:24:28Rock. So I think I think we should
- 1:24:30probably have a dozen there, but it'll be really cool next year.
- 1:24:34I think we're planning on staying pretty local.
- 1:24:37I think I don't know the full plans of what we're doing with
- 1:24:40Lorraine yet, but but I think that we're going to have we're
- 1:24:44going to have a decent amount of races there.
- 1:24:46And then Painesville selfishly, I put in that they had to have
- 1:24:50us a few times a year and Scott was obviously OK with it.
- 1:24:54So so we'll be there a few times too.
- 1:24:56But obviously I'm sure we'll still travel.
- 1:24:58But a lot of those guys are diehard racers too.
- 1:25:00So but some of them have you know, like Jeff Faye junior, he
- 1:25:04won is actually emotional race this past weekend.
- 1:25:07His father died, who's his name is also Jeff Fay, but we all
- 1:25:11call him Smokey. He was a race director back in
- 1:25:14the day at Lorraine. He was actually a tech guy at
- 1:25:17Painesville when we first started and stuff like that and
- 1:25:20super good guy. He passed away a year ago
- 1:25:22Saturday. So Jeff absolutely whacks the
- 1:25:25field 9 second lead on 1/5 mile track.
- 1:25:28So he was moving. So that was an emotional win too
- 1:25:32for him. So that was really cool to see.
- 1:25:34But guys like Jeff, he he races a modified two owns a tree
- 1:25:38stock. So he some of these guys have
- 1:25:41different cars or trucks that they race and stuff.
- 1:25:43So it kind of it's kind of tough.
- 1:25:45But but yeah, we're the truck tour is really fun.
- 1:25:48That's obviously really cool. Like we have some of our, our
- 1:25:52safety crew guys, stuff like that, that are actually, I would
- 1:25:56say only family that I mean, we're, it's kind of funny.
- 1:26:00I run my service department and my full time job now, just like
- 1:26:04how I run the race tracks, like family atmosphere, stuff like
- 1:26:06that. And we actually we're going
- 1:26:09packing up the camper, going out there, me and my dad and a few
- 1:26:12other guys and girls. We're going out there this
- 1:26:14weekend. We're going to camp, hang out.
- 1:26:17So we're really excited. That's kind of what that what we
- 1:26:19wanted that to be so. Well, and that's one thing that
- 1:26:23I mean, you've mentioned some of your history and talked about
- 1:26:25this and we didn't start with my softball question that I always
- 1:26:28like to start off with. But but that's because we were
- 1:26:32talking about the social media stuff.
- 1:26:33And I know obviously you're someone who's had to deal a lot
- 1:26:36with that. And and you know in your also
- 1:26:39that young promoter, right, you're someone who jumped in
- 1:26:41very early and your family started at Painesville, but you
- 1:26:45started your racing journey. If I remember correctly, wasn't
- 1:26:48it Sandusky that you raced your first race or was it Lorraine?
- 1:26:50It was Lorraine. My my family grew up at
- 1:26:52Sandusky, but then we kind of transferred to Lorraine.
- 1:26:54Yeah. So, so for those who don't know,
- 1:26:56you used to race and the what would be like a front wheel
- 1:26:59drive Hornet style car compact. And then you know, you got your
- 1:27:04family bought Painesville and you started helping them and
- 1:27:07promoting at Painesville. And then the county was
- 1:27:09struggling and I think it was what it wasn't.
- 1:27:11It called the county at that time, or was.
- 1:27:13It it was Lorraine County. Lorraine County, Yep.
- 1:27:16And so then obviously you guys took that over.
- 1:27:18So for you obviously being a young promoter and now doing
- 1:27:23this truck tour, what are some of the lessons that, you know,
- 1:27:25we'd like? We just had Andy Bozell on not
- 1:27:27too long before you came on. And so obviously a legend and
- 1:27:30like the Outlaw World, obviously your family has legacy in the
- 1:27:34racing world. What are some of the lessons
- 1:27:36that you've learned where now you've been away for a little
- 1:27:39bit from the day-to-day track operations now kind of getting
- 1:27:43back into it a little bit. You know, what are some things
- 1:27:45that you've learned then that you're going to start applying
- 1:27:48like now, other than your tax or trade if you can't say no and
- 1:27:53you're this is maybe the quote of the night whore for car
- 1:27:57counts. So.
- 1:27:59So what have you learned that now you get to apply in the
- 1:28:02revival? Yeah.
- 1:28:04So we I don't know, I would like to, I was always told like, hey,
- 1:28:09don't read social media, whatever they say, like don't
- 1:28:12believe it, blah, blah, But that's just not who I am.
- 1:28:15I wear my, what was it emotions on your sleeve.
- 1:28:18I always have a chip on my shoulder.
- 1:28:19So I grew up like that and especially getting into racing
- 1:28:24when I was well, at least for like promoting wise, I was 17
- 1:28:28years old, you know, so I was I, I walked into it thinking I knew
- 1:28:32everything and obviously that was quick that I did not.
- 1:28:35But a lot of the people that, you know, some people don't like
- 1:28:38me still because of that attitude, but I definitely
- 1:28:40changed. But I think a lot of people
- 1:28:42realize like after a year or two and they're like, OK, this kid's
- 1:28:45actually busting his ass. And he also realized that he was
- 1:28:48wrong. You know what I mean?
- 1:28:49And I, I'll admit that I think that like lessons that I've
- 1:28:54learned is just to, you know, I obviously got burnt out a lot.
- 1:28:58And I think it's easy to do. I was working a full time job.
- 1:29:02You know, I'm trying to, I don't want to say to our family, but
- 1:29:04like, I'm, you know, I'm obviously homeowner now, like in
- 1:29:08my fiance, we're getting married in October, like stuff like
- 1:29:10that, like, and I just never knew what life was like outside
- 1:29:14of racing. So a lot of people, I guess,
- 1:29:17like, you know, they might, they might have, I don't know how to
- 1:29:21put this, but like they start promoting at, you know, age of
- 1:29:2440 or something like that. I don't really, I've never
- 1:29:27really met anyone that was race tracking, promoting and kind of
- 1:29:30doing what I was doing. I wasn't race tracking at first,
- 1:29:34but 17 years old, you know. So I think like I hang out with
- 1:29:39my friends now and they're like, Oh yeah, I remember in college
- 1:29:41when we did this and this, this, and I was like, no, I was at the
- 1:29:44racetrack, dude. I don't remember that at all,
- 1:29:46you know, So I feel like a part of me resented racing a little
- 1:29:50bit because it's like, you know, I, I missed out on my childhood,
- 1:29:52so to speak. I don't regret it at all because
- 1:29:55I think that I think it's made me who I am today, you know,
- 1:29:59like we got promoted very fast at my like, my, my job and stuff
- 1:30:03like that. So it just made me made like,
- 1:30:05like my drive and stuff like that.
- 1:30:07But that's definitely a lesson that I learned is that like I, I
- 1:30:11feel like I just had something to prove and I was trying to
- 1:30:13prove it to the wrong people maybe.
- 1:30:15And it didn't really matter at the end of the day, you know,
- 1:30:18try to make everyone happy and it just obviously that's never
- 1:30:21going to happen. But like you said during your
- 1:30:24rant, which was you're 110% spot on that, you know, it, it yes,
- 1:30:31it's like it's hard because you know, you, you want to make
- 1:30:35everyone happy and you, you can lose sponsors like that and
- 1:30:37everything like that, but people's opinion doesn't matter.
- 1:30:41At the end of the day, though. Everyone has a voice when they
- 1:30:44used to not, you know what I mean?
- 1:30:45So that's kind of hard too, but you know, I, I've, I've, I've
- 1:30:51been posting less like type of thing, like I haven't been on
- 1:30:53social media as much. Like I think that really helped
- 1:30:56me kind of rejuvenate. And then, you know, after this
- 1:30:59past weekend, like I was talking to a few people and I'm like, I
- 1:31:04was like, man, like it's really cool just to be not focused
- 1:31:07maybe on not having to focus on like fan count and stuff like
- 1:31:12that and money wise of the track and stuff like that.
- 1:31:14If I can just focus on the racing aspect.
- 1:31:15Like, and I think it, I think it probably proved it too.
- 1:31:18Like we ran a very clean, efficient show.
- 1:31:21We were all, and it could have just been because we've been
- 1:31:25like maybe beginner's luck or something like that.
- 1:31:27But I don't think it is. But you know, we didn't run, run
- 1:31:30a race since last September. So it's been what it would have
- 1:31:33been 11 months, maybe maybe like 10 months, but but it's like,
- 1:31:38OK, maybe you know, we we just missed it so much that it's like
- 1:31:42first day, like going back, we're all going to be messing
- 1:31:45around. Then next time we're going to be
- 1:31:46at each other's throats. But we we ran it like I always
- 1:31:50boast about my team and everything like that.
- 1:31:52And they we busted ass. So like it was really cool.
- 1:31:54Like we cleanups weren't like we were on it.
- 1:31:57We were focused. So it was really cool.
- 1:32:00And I think that has to do with it me just up in the tower, 100%
- 1:32:05focus on the race, not about, oh, what's going on in the
- 1:32:07concession, Oh, what's going on here?
- 1:32:09You know what I mean? So having those partners that we
- 1:32:11do now, like it was it was perfect, you know, and like
- 1:32:13we've been had a lot of talks about that and everything like
- 1:32:15that. So definitely, definitely has
- 1:32:20got that spark back. I think like I think but but it
- 1:32:23was, it was cool to now kind of build off of it, you know?
- 1:32:28Well, again, I saw a lot of pictures coming out of Lorraine
- 1:32:31because I follow a lot of the same racers, right?
- 1:32:33I mean that I Buju knows we've set it on here that that's such
- 1:32:36a beautiful facility that you have at Lorraine.
- 1:32:39And it's like, man, it just stunk seeing it kind of sit
- 1:32:43there. But it's also like you can't
- 1:32:45lose money every single weekend. And I think that's that's the
- 1:32:48thing, right, Is that, that it's so easy to go on and criticize
- 1:32:52and judge. And I know when you guys first
- 1:32:53made the announcement, obviously you had a lot of people who had
- 1:32:57a lot of thoughts and some positive, some understanding and
- 1:33:01others not so much where it's, well, if you did this and you
- 1:33:04did that and say, OK, well, at the end of the night, if I'm
- 1:33:08losing $10,000 last week and $10,000 this week and $10,000
- 1:33:12next week, when at what point do you want me to open the gate
- 1:33:15again? If I'm, you know, in the hole,
- 1:33:17money just doesn't come off trees.
- 1:33:18Otherwise everyone would grow them instead of tearing them
- 1:33:20down. So like, right, we went to chop
- 1:33:22them down. We would make sure they are
- 1:33:24pristine and perfect. And I think that's the thing
- 1:33:27that in getting to know you and you even set it on here, you
- 1:33:31know, the emotions on your sleeve.
- 1:33:32I literally watch you sit on the ground at Lorraine at the I
- 1:33:36thought, I want to say it's a jackpot that year where it's
- 1:33:39like, man, you know, we had electric power go, you know,
- 1:33:44catch on fire. We had our light pole catch on
- 1:33:47fire. We had timing and scoring.
- 1:33:49But one thing, and if you want to shout out your team and we
- 1:33:52won't judge if you forget some names, but your team just
- 1:33:55literally jumped into whatever the next thing was.
- 1:33:58It's like you guys always had a plan.
- 1:34:00Oh, we're going to do impromptu autograph session starting meow,
- 1:34:03you know, like get everybody out here and oh, by the way, now
- 1:34:06we're going to do this and you know, and then when the you
- 1:34:10know, you try to get lights out there, you try to do everything
- 1:34:12you could. I mean, the only thing you got
- 1:34:15to do is bury a turtle, apparently, right.
- 1:34:16But but that's something that again, watching your team get in
- 1:34:20action and I've gotten to know like Amanda and others and what
- 1:34:23they do, Brandon and all them like you have a really solid
- 1:34:26team there. And so did most of them come
- 1:34:29back to like, I think I saw like Sebastian and others like, so if
- 1:34:34you want to give them shout outs because watching them,
- 1:34:36especially in the big races, like you had a really strong
- 1:34:38team. Yeah, so we we argue like we're
- 1:34:42all like siblings, it feels like.
- 1:34:43But yeah, I made a list of every single employee and kind of, you
- 1:34:49know, gave it to Scott and Scott contacted who he wanted to or
- 1:34:52whatever happened. But a lot of them are like, all
- 1:34:55right, Randy, what are we doing? And I was like, OK, well, you
- 1:34:58guys can go like they're like, what are we doing?
- 1:35:01I'm like, OK, like whatever. Um, so obviously some people
- 1:35:05stayed like our scorer Robbie D He's, he's not race directing at
- 1:35:09Painsville, which he's doing a great job at.
- 1:35:12There's Brayden. He, he stayed at Painesville
- 1:35:16too. He's pretty much like the head
- 1:35:17honcho over there now. He'll tell you all about it too.
- 1:35:20But, but he's a good kid. He was a, he was a ticket taker
- 1:35:24back when we started in 20. I think it was maybe 2018 when
- 1:35:28he probably started. But so he's moved up.
- 1:35:31He's learned a lot from all of us too.
- 1:35:33So that's cool to see. But but yeah, like Jeremy,
- 1:35:37Mandy, Sebastian, Isaiah, Zack, Ray, Ray, our flagman, we had
- 1:35:43Jarrett. He's actually from Sandusky.
- 1:35:46He was, he was scoring this past time.
- 1:35:49Mark and Wayne in the tech garage.
- 1:35:52We have William. He's a new announcer.
- 1:35:54He's coming from the dirt world. So he he announced and he was
- 1:35:57doing a great job too. So we, I don't know, it was
- 1:36:02just, it makes me emotional too because like you said, everyone
- 1:36:04just like it seemed like everyone knew what they were
- 1:36:06doing, you know, like, so I would call him and be like, hey,
- 1:36:09like we were, we didn't have, I don't want to say we had scoring
- 1:36:13issues this past time, but we kind of did we.
- 1:36:17So we had a Sunday practice the week prior.
- 1:36:19And Nicholas Grukas, he his dad's been a fixture at Lorraine
- 1:36:24for years, but he actually is a scorer scoring official for
- 1:36:29NASCAR. So he travels with the Cup
- 1:36:31series and stuff like that. But for, I'd say a year or two,
- 1:36:35he was full time with us. He was at ARCA before then he
- 1:36:39stopped doing that and he was with us.
- 1:36:41And then, but he, he was there with Ray and they were were
- 1:36:44looking at the timing system and we, I was like, hey, just test
- 1:36:48it. Like he was going to be in.
- 1:36:50I don't know where they were on the eighth.
- 1:36:51I think it was in Iowa. I don't know where they were,
- 1:36:54but they were like, they just tested for me.
- 1:36:57He's alright. So he got there and it was like
- 1:36:59a wire was ripped and he's like, yeah, I'm gonna have to replace
- 1:37:02it. I love Nicholas to death with
- 1:37:04them. I don't know, I, I won't swear,
- 1:37:06but that MF, he uh, he was like, I'll be there on Monday, like I
- 1:37:10can't stay today. Or we were practicing and we
- 1:37:12were trying to beat the rain for some of the guys that were
- 1:37:14there. So he's like, I won't do it
- 1:37:15today. I'll do it Monday.
- 1:37:17OK, didn't come Monday, didn't come Tuesday, didn't come
- 1:37:20Wednesday like you supposed to. Then he had to leave early for
- 1:37:22his NASCAR race. So I'm like you, mother.
- 1:37:24And then so on Thursday we were there.
- 1:37:27We had practice on Friday, Me, Sebastian, Zach, Isaiah, and
- 1:37:31then actually Zach's new girlfriend.
- 1:37:33She was getting dirty with us and like getting everything
- 1:37:36ready with us too, which was cool.
- 1:37:38They were, we were trying to replace the transplant line.
- 1:37:41We got all the old one all out we go.
- 1:37:43We're like starting to caulk the new one in and it starts pouring
- 1:37:47on us. I'm like, this is, I was like,
- 1:37:48welcome back, you know, But so we ended up finishing it on
- 1:37:54Friday and I mean, hell, even finishing on Saturday, honestly.
- 1:37:59We hooked it up, hooked up on Saturday and it was like Jared,
- 1:38:04the score was like, man, dude, these hits suck like all
- 1:38:06practice. And I'm like, Oh my God, here we
- 1:38:08go. So I'm like, all right, well,
- 1:38:10like I was texting all of them in the group chat.
- 1:38:12Well, and our radios weren't working right either.
- 1:38:14Like which OK, first day of school like that, that might
- 1:38:17happen because we haven't done it in 11 months.
- 1:38:20But so we had a little adversity and I was like, I was telling
- 1:38:25all of them like to communicate during during the first round of
- 1:38:28practice when our radios were getting fixed.
- 1:38:30We have a new kid. He was not having a new kid.
- 1:38:32His name is Brandon, and he actually helped us fix the
- 1:38:35scoreboard at Painesville a few years ago.
- 1:38:38And then actually the one at Lorraine too.
- 1:38:39And so he was there to work the scoreboard.
- 1:38:43Turns out I got hit by lightning a few weeks prior.
- 1:38:46So he's like, yeah, some of these things are fried, dude.
- 1:38:48Like I'm like, well, and he's like, what do you need me to do?
- 1:38:51I'll stay. I'm like, whatever you want,
- 1:38:54dude. So he was running around giving
- 1:38:56the safety crew guys water all the all night.
- 1:38:58He was actually, he was helping me up in the tower a little bit.
- 1:39:05He was, he fixed all of our radios, but normally Jeremy's
- 1:39:10the one that would do like like the radio thing and everything,
- 1:39:13but he has he's in the, I'm going to get it wrong.
- 1:39:16I think Army reserves or something.
- 1:39:18And so he was, he had drill that weekend and he was leaving
- 1:39:22around like 1, I think. And this dude hauls ass like
- 1:39:25he'll show up in his uniform and just get right to work.
- 1:39:29So he so he on the way there, I'm like, I'm texting all of
- 1:39:33them. I'm like, hey, this is what I'm
- 1:39:34going to post on Facebook, just so you guys know, because
- 1:39:36everyone's going to be asking you.
- 1:39:37We're just going to go dirt style.
- 1:39:38I was like, I we can't rely on this scoring system.
- 1:39:42We'll just pull pills for the heats and then finishing order
- 1:39:44for the heats will just be the features like we'll just run it
- 1:39:46like that. And, and Jeremy's like, like
- 1:39:51when do you plan on making that announcement?
- 1:39:52I'm like probably after the second set of high laps, he's
- 1:39:55like, what time do you think that will be?
- 1:39:57And I told him and he's like, OK, my ETA is 10 minutes before
- 1:40:01that. So wait.
- 1:40:02I said OK. And he cleaned a few, cleaned up
- 1:40:05a few connections, so like that. And he goes, the connections
- 1:40:08were really dirty. He was like, that might be it.
- 1:40:10And sure it was. And so I'm like, wow, OK, sweet.
- 1:40:13So we were rolling. But stuff like that.
- 1:40:15I mean, it just everyone has a plan, you know what I mean?
- 1:40:18Like we like that autograph session at Jackpot.
- 1:40:21US turning on the lights, us making decisions, just go Sunday
- 1:40:24racing for the jackpot that one year.
- 1:40:27You know, we're all human, so obviously nothing's ever going
- 1:40:30to be perfect. But I think the true testament
- 1:40:34of like a team and a person honestly is when you're faced
- 1:40:37with adversity, what do you do? So I think that like just the
- 1:40:42mental capacity of OK, like relax, let's figure it out type
- 1:40:46of thing. That's what I think.
- 1:40:48I've like, people at work will come up to me like this
- 1:40:51customer's screaming blah, blah, blah.
- 1:40:52And I'm a service manager, so of course we break everyone's cars.
- 1:40:56So I'm like, all right, like relax.
- 1:41:00Like I'll talk to them, answer the phone.
- 1:41:01They're screaming at me. I'm like, I'll crack a joke.
- 1:41:04And they're like, what? I'm like, yeah, I was like, you
- 1:41:06know, it's not my fault. I'm, I'm here to help you, you
- 1:41:08know, like so, but stuff like that, like if just how you
- 1:41:12handle adversity, I think just proved what kind of person you
- 1:41:15are. So our team's great.
- 1:41:17Like I mean, Isaiah, he's my fiance's little cousin.
- 1:41:21He's been with us since I think he was 12.
- 1:41:24And I was like, you keep your ass in the truck type of thing,
- 1:41:27but you want to be on safety crew.
- 1:41:30Seb's been with us. Sebastian's been with us for I
- 1:41:32think 4 years now probably. He's like a brother to me,
- 1:41:36annoys the hell out of me, but we bicker back and forth.
- 1:41:39But he's, he's a little hot head.
- 1:41:41We're working on that. He was a little better.
- 1:41:44Zach, he's new. He's two years.
- 1:41:47Ray's been with us. Ray's been with us since I think
- 1:41:512019 maybe. I mean, he's our flag man.
- 1:41:54So he he's actually a pit steward at Mansfield now too.
- 1:41:59So so we're kind of having right.
- 1:42:01We were messing with them that we have shared custody.
- 1:42:04But he but he's a great guy. He's great to have around.
- 1:42:07Found him knowledge. Mark and Wayne are tech guys and
- 1:42:11they've been with us probably since 2019 as well.
- 1:42:14Those guys, if you say I'm going to go jump off a bridge, are
- 1:42:17going to jump off with you. Mandy and Jeremy, same deal.
- 1:42:21They're like basically like siblings to me.
- 1:42:24They're all like that. They're all just amazing, you
- 1:42:28know, like in which I it's always weird that, you know,
- 1:42:34like it's not weird, but I'm always the one that goes on
- 1:42:37these things like that, But I always, I always tell them like,
- 1:42:40look, it's not it's not me, it's you guys, you know, so it's or
- 1:42:43it's us. So you know, whether it's it's
- 1:42:47great. Like we, I remember we a few
- 1:42:49years ago, we had a bad, a bad show, I think it was with race
- 1:42:54of champions modifies tour type mods.
- 1:42:56I thought it was going to be a freaking home run like it was.
- 1:42:59Yeah, Matt Hirshman was there, Paulie Hartwig, like all like
- 1:43:03the name guys where Andy Jane Kodiak was there.
- 1:43:06So it was a big thing. Like I thought we were going to
- 1:43:08be golden. Well, I went through the IT was
- 1:43:11a it was a good event for everyone from PA in New York
- 1:43:14because of everyone. Like I went through the parking
- 1:43:16lot and my my four Wheeler and that's all the plates I saw.
- 1:43:19I didn't see any Ohio plates. I'm like, I like seriously, like
- 1:43:22this is like a badass card. Like we had, I think we had like
- 1:43:2530 some modifieds, like our modifieds, we had I think 22 of
- 1:43:29them, which was a great show. And so it was kind of rough, but
- 1:43:33you know, they took me putting the next day.
- 1:43:35They were like, all right, come on, we're going to go hang out
- 1:43:37like, and then so, but having a team like that and backing like
- 1:43:40my family and everyone there, my fiance is great.
- 1:43:43So stuff like that. They're just, she just walked
- 1:43:46by. So that's why I, that's not why
- 1:43:48I did it. But but, but we it's great, you
- 1:43:53know, So, but yeah, I'll, I'll get off my that's my soapbox.
- 1:43:56You're gonna talk about, you know, the drama on Facebook and
- 1:44:00stuff like that. And I was on a podcast, the
- 1:44:02Buckeyes P podcast with those guys, funny dudes there.
- 1:44:06We're allowed to swear on that one.
- 1:44:07So I'm a little peachy on this one, But but we were talking and
- 1:44:11like they got me completely negative the one day and I was
- 1:44:15like, yeah, I was like, I'm over these fucking people.
- 1:44:19And so but like, I don't know, after Lorraine and I kind of got
- 1:44:24that fire back in me. So I'm I, I'm all positive now.
- 1:44:28So we're good. Well, and you shout it out to
- 1:44:31fiance and that's also a good thing because I actually we had
- 1:44:34the Michigan auto fan racing club on earlier.
- 1:44:37I did it again, auto racing fan club.
- 1:44:40I always put fan and racing in reverse.
- 1:44:42I don't know why it's just and I don't have like the sexy or
- 1:44:44anything. I just can't say it.
- 1:44:45Like I have to say it wrong to say it right kind of deal.
- 1:44:48But that's something that there was a a champion who did a whole
- 1:44:53speech thing because I recorded it for them.
- 1:44:57He came back like a few minutes later.
- 1:44:58I forgot to mention my wife. And so you're just getting in
- 1:45:02the habit now of you're always going to have to remember,
- 1:45:06right? Like she's happy, you're happy,
- 1:45:08so. You know, yeah.
- 1:45:09And that's the, that's the biggest part too, is like a lot
- 1:45:12of people don't realize like, like, you know, you're away,
- 1:45:15like especially, I mean, racers too, racers, workers, stuff like
- 1:45:19that. But there's birthday parties
- 1:45:21that I've missed. There's, you know, like there.
- 1:45:24That's why I like, I was saying like to everyone too.
- 1:45:26I was like, I'd like to be involved in racing, but I don't
- 1:45:29wanna do it every single week just because I, I know that how
- 1:45:33much stuff I've missed, you know, like this past, like this
- 1:45:36summer, we've gone camping with my, like my family, my cousins
- 1:45:39and stuff. We've been to cookouts and stuff
- 1:45:41like that where before I wasn't able to go to, She would always
- 1:45:45go and you know, take the dog or whatever and have fun, but I
- 1:45:49wasn't able to. So like it'd be granted.
- 1:45:52I wasn't not going to lie, I wasn't really thinking about it
- 1:45:55at the time because you know, I'm so like focused on racing
- 1:45:58and like what I'm doing right then.
- 1:46:00But looking back like it sucks, you know, so you see the
- 1:46:03pictures and everything and like family vacations that, you know,
- 1:46:07I was not, I was present, but I was mentally, I was at the
- 1:46:12racetrack, you know, so, but being able to take a step back
- 1:46:16and realize there's more to life than racing, which I think some
- 1:46:19people might you have to do it in order, like Craig Brackman, I
- 1:46:23don't know if you guys know that name.
- 1:46:24He's a Painsville Speedway. He's a historian there and great
- 1:46:28dude. He actually just won his first
- 1:46:30feature there. And I think, I think he won
- 1:46:33features before, back before he took his like hiatus for like 10
- 1:46:36years or something. But he's back in a compact won
- 1:46:39his first feature a few weeks ago, which was really cool.
- 1:46:41But he, he took like a 510 year break, I think, and then
- 1:46:46actually came back when we, we bought, came back and bought the
- 1:46:50track and, and great guy. And he's like, yeah, he's like,
- 1:46:54I just, I needed a break like I was doing every single week.
- 1:46:56He bought a camper with his wife, you know, they were
- 1:46:58hanging out. But now he's like, now he's back
- 1:47:02and he's like, sometimes you need that break.
- 1:47:04And I'm like, yeah, well, my break was a little shorter than
- 1:47:06yours, but he a lot of people like that.
- 1:47:11Like you said, the supporters will be quiet or they or they
- 1:47:14message you on like there is and you find out who your real
- 1:47:18friends are too. Like so there is people that you
- 1:47:21know, only in it to get a free pic pass are only in it to go
- 1:47:24like, you know, but say that they're friends with the
- 1:47:27promoter and this and that. But you know, there's some
- 1:47:29people that you know, during like, I mean, I was like, I was
- 1:47:33ghost on Facebook, like I, I mean, I actually I got hacked,
- 1:47:36but so I made a new Facebook, which was kind of kind of
- 1:47:38awesome because I have to deal with people that ain't fake
- 1:47:41people, I guess you can say, but there's racers that are
- 1:47:45messaging me like, hey buddy, hope you're doing OK like this
- 1:47:47and that whatever, which is cool because you know, those are
- 1:47:50actual genuine, genuine people. And like in a business like this
- 1:47:54where, you know, I'm, I was probably more open than most,
- 1:47:58which it could be a bad thing, but also I feel like is a good
- 1:48:01thing because it gave people perspective.
- 1:48:03And I feel like since I opened up about hardships and about
- 1:48:07like what was going on behind the scenes, like it feels like a
- 1:48:10lot more people started to a lot more promoters and owners have.
- 1:48:15And I feel like it gives them a voice to be, you know, that
- 1:48:18you're human too. But I think that, you know,
- 1:48:23taking a lot of people need to take that break and whether
- 1:48:25that's obviously racing needs as many people as they need to or
- 1:48:29as a as we can get. But like, I had a good talk with
- 1:48:32a racer a few weeks ago and I was like, look, dude, like one,
- 1:48:35if you're not happy, if it's constant drama, it's like that,
- 1:48:38like you'll, you'll be back if you're maxing out credit cards
- 1:48:42and stuff like that. Like, dude, you have a life.
- 1:48:45Like don't, you know, don't ruin your life just to go out and you
- 1:48:48know, when and then complain about the purse or something or
- 1:48:50win a trophy, you know what I mean?
- 1:48:52Stuff like that. But stuff like that.
- 1:48:55I mean, it's you, you got to, there's more life to racing and
- 1:48:59you know, you don't want to, you don't want to regret anything,
- 1:49:02you know. So like then some people can do
- 1:49:04both. Like I know people that have a
- 1:49:06full time job and can race and don't never get burnt out and
- 1:49:09they never run out of money. Like God bless you, you know,
- 1:49:12but sometimes some people just don't.
- 1:49:15They need to take that step back and it helped, obviously.
- 1:49:18Yeah. Well, and then probably seen
- 1:49:20again that full crowd. I mean, that paid place was just
- 1:49:23absolutely packed. That definitely helped.
- 1:49:26And, and, and the social media, I mean, I already follow
- 1:49:29Lorraine and I've never unfollowed Lorraine.
- 1:49:30Like, so I, I see the updates when they are coming through,
- 1:49:33but I had other people commenting because they
- 1:49:36remembered that I've been to Lorraine.
- 1:49:37They're like, Hey, do you know anything about this Lorraine?
- 1:49:39Because they saw like, this is the best seat and this is the
- 1:49:42best seat. And this is, you know, like it
- 1:49:44was a very creative social media campaign that they also did with
- 1:49:47this revival. And it's like, you know, social
- 1:49:50media isn't the 100% only way to like promote things and do
- 1:49:53things, but it's like people showed up and they came.
- 1:49:55And so that probably, I mean, I would imagine that had to feel
- 1:49:59good to see that you say maybe beginner's luck, but now, right,
- 1:50:03that pressure is not maybe not pressure, but that, hey, we got
- 1:50:06a, you know, we have Jackpot and Lorraine, which are staples that
- 1:50:10we've built here. We need to hit this out of the
- 1:50:12park. So that's why I'm like, I didn't
- 1:50:15realize that you had a new Facebook until because one day I
- 1:50:17went to messaging like, well, I don't think I made him mad.
- 1:50:20I don't think I did anything. I think he would have told me to
- 1:50:23F off if anything first before he deleted me or blocked me.
- 1:50:26But so I'm like, I've never said anything bad about Lorraine or
- 1:50:29Painesville. But then I learned that you got
- 1:50:32a new one and I just keep forgetting to re add you.
- 1:50:35Of course, you don't have to accept by the way, but you know,
- 1:50:36I keep forgetting. And that's when I messaged him
- 1:50:39like, OK, you're reviving, you're coming back.
- 1:50:41I double checked him like is Randy the one behind it?
- 1:50:44Because so you weren't really on the social media campaign for
- 1:50:47most of them. So that's from that's why I
- 1:50:49message you like, Hey, why don't we get on here?
- 1:50:52You know, I have this new podcast and I have it last time
- 1:50:54we talked, but you know, why don't we bring you on here?
- 1:50:56That way you can, you know, say what's going on at Lorraine
- 1:51:00update people because obviously people from this area,
- 1:51:02especially with that being a September show, might be
- 1:51:04interested and might, you know, head on over because we've had
- 1:51:08people from Kalamazoo and Galesburg and all and M40 head
- 1:51:11over there to race and enjoyed their time at Lorraine.
- 1:51:14So it's like, why don't we bring you on here and, you know, and
- 1:51:17let's talk a little bit about Lorraine and where we're where
- 1:51:19we're at right now and maybe where you're going with it.
- 1:51:21And obviously when you mentioned Truck Tour, it's like, Oh yeah,
- 1:51:23let's talk about that too. Yeah, definitely a lot
- 1:51:27happening. Definitely really excited.
- 1:51:30One thing that's going to be kind of a downer is, you know,
- 1:51:32we, so we had I want to say we had thirty, 3032 maybe 3 stocks
- 1:51:38at this at the opening deal. We aren't going to open up the
- 1:51:42rules like we have in the past or tried it just because I feel
- 1:51:45like I don't want to. There's a lot of it's going to
- 1:51:49be a one day show. I don't want to.
- 1:51:51It's not going to pay as much either as like the previous
- 1:51:53ones. It's still going to be a good
- 1:51:55payday, but it's not going to be a $7500 to win type of deal.
- 1:51:59So I didn't want to. I don't want to say I don't want
- 1:52:02to make it as big, but I don't want to make it into who can
- 1:52:08spend the most money type of deal.
- 1:52:09I don't want to make it an impound race, stuff like that.
- 1:52:12So it's going to be a different feel.
- 1:52:13But obviously those guys are more than welcome to come down.
- 1:52:16But some of them might not be legal.
- 1:52:18As long as they're legal for the Wheel Man series, they'll be
- 1:52:21good. But I know some people have to
- 1:52:24tweak some things here and there.
- 1:52:25But yeah, yeah. But yeah, so that's kind of what
- 1:52:28we're doing with it. But like guys like Maynard's,
- 1:52:31they're awesome people to have with us.
- 1:52:33Chucky Barnes, Troy Phillips, all those guys.
- 1:52:36So Jeremy Young, Ricky Laduke has come down.
- 1:52:40Those guys are all awesome. Ricky.
- 1:52:42Actually, there's Trident. I don't know if it was the first
- 1:52:47year. I think Ricky and Jeremy came
- 1:52:50with us to B Dubs after practice night.
- 1:52:54I don't know if it if it rained or we only got something, I
- 1:52:58don't know. But I know I was making a new
- 1:53:00schedule on my, I don't know, napkin.
- 1:53:04And they're like, what are you doing?
- 1:53:05And I was like, this is what I have to do.
- 1:53:07Like we have to change stuff. But that was a cool perspective
- 1:53:11for them too, to go like, wow, OK.
- 1:53:13Like he's a normal person. He goes to beat UPS with his
- 1:53:17guys and hanging out and stuff like that and drinking a beer.
- 1:53:19But then at the same point, like he's bringing down a schedule on
- 1:53:22a piece of napkin, you know, So that was cool too.
- 1:53:25But that's kind of how we are. We're just we're all human.
- 1:53:27So, you know, if you know, we'll like like I think it was Ron
- 1:53:34Sager's was there too. I don't know if you guys know
- 1:53:35that name with the compact guys, he was over there too.
- 1:53:38Stuff like that. They just you know, everyone,
- 1:53:42everyone's my friend when it comes to racing, you know, until
- 1:53:44you until you obviously screw me over, which I haven't been
- 1:53:47screwed over a lot. But stuff like that, you know,
- 1:53:50like it was just so we are. Yeah.
- 1:53:53Well, and again, I, you know, I know with Lorraine, if, if
- 1:53:56anybody watching or who watches this, you know, we have a lot of
- 1:53:59even off off time viewers who'll go back and listen to it at work
- 1:54:03or whatever. Like get out to Lorraine.
- 1:54:05Even Painesville means it's a 5 hour drive, you know, from where
- 1:54:08I am. So kind of base that on along
- 1:54:10Lake MI to the other side of Cleveland.
- 1:54:13But you know, Painesville, I was, that's a fun track too.
- 1:54:17And, and obviously I still follow them.
- 1:54:19I still follow a lot of the drivers.
- 1:54:20But get out to Lorraine, check it out.
- 1:54:23It's about 4 1/2 hours from maybe 4, probably closer to 4
- 1:54:27from Lake, MI to that part on the other on the what, West side
- 1:54:32of Cleveland? Because plain sales east side.
- 1:54:35But you know that track, I mean, watching the modifieds on that
- 1:54:37track alone, standing along that backstretch and watching along
- 1:54:40that backstretch, I'm like, oh, this is going to be fun.
- 1:54:43So, So again, it's a beautiful facility out there.
- 1:54:47I gotta get out there yeah, one that has not been on my list yet
- 1:54:51and y'all, y'all are selling me tonight so.
- 1:54:53You know, it's worth it. And so again, you know, huge
- 1:54:57shout out and kudos to your team.
- 1:54:59Anytime I was here there, I was respectful and I always watched
- 1:55:02liked watching them because like I said earlier, like there's
- 1:55:06I've seen moments of I wouldn't say crisis, but like, uh oh,
- 1:55:09things hit the fan. Plan B, plan C, plan C, plan E
- 1:55:13and it's just they roll with it, right?
- 1:55:15And and you don't always find teams who can just roll with it.
- 1:55:19And it's like they rolled with it.
- 1:55:20They did their part, they knew what to do, they jumped in.
- 1:55:23They even problem solved and help problem solve.
- 1:55:25And, and I think it says a lot when the promoter's literally
- 1:55:28sitting on the ground fixing things with staff rather than
- 1:55:31standing over and, you know, directing reminds me of lot of
- 1:55:35like Donnie Ritter has done this too, right?
- 1:55:38Where he just jumps in and you're like, he's towing a car
- 1:55:40or he's in there and the car's literally on fire and he's not
- 1:55:44in the fire suit or anything like that, but he's helping,
- 1:55:46right? He's in the he's in the moment.
- 1:55:48And sometimes you don't, you don't see that with like
- 1:55:50promoters where they're very much above and beyond the
- 1:55:53action, right? They, they'll watch from the
- 1:55:55wherever they are and their comforts of their whatever
- 1:55:58friendly confines that are in and they'll direct from there,
- 1:56:01but they won't get always get involved.
- 1:56:03So. That's a good shout out.
- 1:56:05Yeah, they're and I think starting young too.
- 1:56:07I never really we had race directors up until 2022, I think
- 1:56:122023. So like I was, I was always with
- 1:56:14states crew. If we were shorthanded in the
- 1:56:16kitchen, I had a there's a picture of me somewhere.
- 1:56:18I was growing up my hair for cancer till I realized that it
- 1:56:21had to be super, super long and I was like, I can't do it.
- 1:56:25But but we I have a hair net on flipping burgers and stuff like
- 1:56:29that. Just, you know, it's kind of my
- 1:56:32family's always have the mentality of whatever it takes
- 1:56:34type of thing. So we did that.
- 1:56:37But you'll actually like this. Sebastian, Zach and Isaiah had a
- 1:56:41grand idea to get like these vests.
- 1:56:44And actually I'm pretty sure they took it out of your
- 1:56:45playbook or Kalamazoo's playbook, and they're doing
- 1:56:49videos now of like what they're doing.
- 1:56:50It's like that, yeah. They tested it this past one and
- 1:56:55like Seb had his strap like in the way and stuff like that.
- 1:56:58But they're like, dude, this is awesome.
- 1:57:01Like you can tell they can hear them like on the radio talk to
- 1:57:04me. They're going to put probably
- 1:57:05not going to be a good thing, but they're going to put a radio
- 1:57:08next to it with a microphone. So this way they can hear like
- 1:57:11the communication back and forth.
- 1:57:12I'm like it's. Probably.
- 1:57:13It's probably not going to be good, but but but yeah.
- 1:57:17So they're, I figured I wanted to mention that too, because
- 1:57:20like there's a few videos and they're like, like it was, it
- 1:57:23was really cool. So the stuff like that that
- 1:57:25Kalamazoo does and, and what you do, like I mean, obviously like
- 1:57:30you, you'd have a whole operation what you're doing.
- 1:57:33So which is awesome. I think it's really cool to
- 1:57:35follow. So I definitely appreciate what
- 1:57:38you do and a lot, I know a lot of people do.
- 1:57:40So everyone, everyone's like, when's that top, top row media
- 1:57:44guy coming? When's that like they want, they
- 1:57:45want you to come. I'm like guys like it's 4 hours
- 1:57:48away, five hours away from them. Like it might be a little hard.
- 1:57:50And they're like, no, no, that's cool.
- 1:57:52Like let's like we want them to, we want them to come back.
- 1:57:54I'm like, all right, but but yeah, definitely.
- 1:57:56And I think that's the cool part too about these races.
- 1:58:00I think that it's weird because weather changes so much.
- 1:58:04I didn't want to run as late in October like we are.
- 1:58:08It's October 23rd to the 25th. I think probably second week of
- 1:58:13October is probably as latest as I'd like to go.
- 1:58:15But of course that's when I'm getting married.
- 1:58:17So like I was like, all right, well, the week before she'd kill
- 1:58:20me the week of the wedding. Can't do that.
- 1:58:23Week after is a honeymoon. So like my dad's like seriously,
- 1:58:26the end of October, I'm like dad, like there's nothing else I
- 1:58:29can do. Like what do I go into like
- 1:58:31November? But but I think that too with
- 1:58:35being South of the lake, I think like weather's like so I
- 1:58:39remember like April's were warm for a while and then it would
- 1:58:44start getting colder in September.
- 1:58:46But now it seems like it's getting nicer.
- 1:58:48It's still staying cold in April, then getting nicer at the
- 1:58:51back end of it. So it's like pushing back.
- 1:58:53So I'm hoping that, you know, even if I don't want to say that
- 1:58:59I'm not worried about car count because that always seems to
- 1:59:02take care of itself with like what we do and the product that
- 1:59:05we get put on the track and like our rules and stuff like that.
- 1:59:10But I think that like, even like people coming down to watch, you
- 1:59:14know, like, I think Lorraine is probably one of the raciest
- 1:59:17tracks I've ever seen. Like you said, the the
- 1:59:20modifieds, we had 26 of them, maybe 25 of them this past race.
- 1:59:26And you know, we had the wave lap and everything like that.
- 1:59:30And like we were all on the radio like yeah, goosebumps or
- 1:59:32like like, wow, like I'm still like messing around and stuff
- 1:59:36like that. But they're like, but we're like
- 1:59:38wow, like this is amazing. And like stuff like that.
- 1:59:41Like that's just get your blood pumping and stuff like that.
- 1:59:44It's like it's like dirt vision when they go 4 wide and stuff
- 1:59:47like like we have that feeling at Lorraine.
- 1:59:49So I think it's the same with the three stacks.
- 1:59:51They were like, I know the big thing is always some people on
- 1:59:57here might not know them, but like Joshua and Earl Goldie,
- 1:59:59they're two very big icons of Streestock racing around us.
- 2:00:05They race with the wheel man Series 2 and this and that, but
- 2:00:09they always seem to fight each other, always seem to wreck each
- 2:00:11other. They were.
- 2:00:14They were battling as a three-way battle with Parker
- 2:00:17Ennis, who's a. His family's a staple at
- 2:00:20Lorraine and he was leading and Earl and Josh got up to him and
- 2:00:25they were three-way battle with like 3 laps to go and people
- 2:00:28were on their feet. Like it was, it was insane.
- 2:00:30Joshua and Earl Goldie never touched and it was they both
- 2:00:33actually sing each other's praises afterwards.
- 2:00:36So it was really cool. They're like, yeah, like it was
- 2:00:38respectful like blah, blah, blah.
- 2:00:40Like you want those rivalries, like, but at the same point,
- 2:00:43like the drivers need to realize like why they're doing it and
- 2:00:47like, you know, like, so OK, like we can hype it up.
- 2:00:49Like, all right, who's going to, you know, who's going to beat
- 2:00:51them this week, like blah, blah, blah.
- 2:00:53But at the same point, like they have to not flip that switch and
- 2:00:56be like, OK, it's it's for promotion.
- 2:00:58You know this isn't Bowman Gray. You know stuff.
- 2:01:00Like that so. But that stuff like that, I mean
- 2:01:04Lorraine just insane racing like Tom.
- 2:01:08It's it's good for legend cars. We had the hook and hall people.
- 2:01:13They, they loved legend cars and they're like, man, you think
- 2:01:17Legend cars are coming? I'm like, we can try it.
- 2:01:20Like I've, I've only had them once and like, you know, we, we
- 2:01:22can try it. And 11 showed up and these guys
- 2:01:26are, there's a group of them going to Anderson this weekend
- 2:01:30and they're like, Hey, give us Flyers.
- 2:01:31Like we're going to go there and promote the hell out of it.
- 2:01:33And we're going to try to get like 20 for September 20 for
- 2:01:36October on my alright, sweet. So so that legend cars are I
- 2:01:41think going to be a staple at Lorraine too for years to come.
- 2:01:43So I think it'll be really cool to you know, these next two
- 2:01:47shows are going to be awesome. So September 26th, 25th is going
- 2:01:51to be practice the Friday, but September 26th we'll have three
- 2:01:55stocks, modifieds, Great Lakes truck tour, legends, ace racing
- 2:01:59league and Compaqs. And then October 24th, 25th,
- 2:02:05we'll, we'll have, I don't know what the divisions are going to
- 2:02:09be yet because there's going to be so many of them.
- 2:02:11There's going to be modified tree stacks, of course, all the
- 2:02:14same divisions I had mentioned. So six of those we'll probably
- 2:02:17have late models, Outlaw late models because their season will
- 2:02:20be done at Midvale Speedway. And I believe we might have the
- 2:02:24outlaw 350 super sprints. So that'd be cool too.
- 2:02:29So we, we're going to, you know, we had.
- 2:02:31Our. Our previous record of
- 2:02:34Cavalcade, which like it's kind of like a spring ports, what
- 2:02:38they call it, the Mid Mission Cup, Mission Cup and then the
- 2:02:42Kalamazoo's. Super Shoe.
- 2:02:45Super Sue. So Cavalcade's like ours.
- 2:02:47It's a Halloween festival. Speed, I guess you can call it,
- 2:02:50but our record I think was 206 cars and we only have we only
- 2:02:55have 99 pads. So I was parking people like in
- 2:02:58the woods like it was insane. But that's honestly the goal for
- 2:03:01this year. So I think we'll, I think we I
- 2:03:03think we'll be able to get there.
- 2:03:05A lot of people are excited to come back and everything like
- 2:03:07that. So we're excited.
- 2:03:09Well, again, if you haven't been out to and it's an Amherst, if I
- 2:03:12remember right, in Ohio, but I I hear I put Lorraine because
- 2:03:16people would know Lorraine Raceway Park.
- 2:03:17They may not know it as like it's an Amherst technically, but
- 2:03:21but yeah, it's a get out there. Check it out.
- 2:03:26I know super shoes that weekend. So, but October, I'm thinking,
- 2:03:30do I have anything and maybe I can come on out because again,
- 2:03:32your team always was so respectful and, and I know it
- 2:03:35helps you guys too. You know, I had someone come
- 2:03:39from Sturgis, MI because I went to Painesville.
- 2:03:42They followed me to Painesville and I'm like, hey, I'll take
- 2:03:45that, right? I, it wasn't 100 people, but at
- 2:03:48least one person made this almost the same drive that I
- 2:03:50did. And you know, and it's like, and
- 2:03:53they enjoyed that track too. And so that was for your Figure
- 2:03:558 nationals, which I said this will be more than worth it.
- 2:03:58And but again, that's where, you know, I hope they definitely
- 2:04:02continue to have fun with that. But what I'll try to bring you
- 2:04:04on. I'm going to put it on my sticky
- 2:04:06note as we get closer to Cavalcade, especially since
- 2:04:11that's end of October. We won't definitely interfere
- 2:04:12with your wedding or anything because I'm not going to make
- 2:04:15your almost new wife mad at that point.
- 2:04:17But she's Beyoncé right now. But fiance is you can kind of
- 2:04:20make mad, but once they become the wives, you don't make them
- 2:04:22mad, right? So definitely won't want to make
- 2:04:24her mad, but bring it on, you know, bring you back on.
- 2:04:27Just to remind everybody, hey, here's this thing, here's the
- 2:04:30rules because you'll definitely be promoting it by then.
- 2:04:32So, so again, that's where I know you've worked all day as a
- 2:04:35service manager at the dealer because it's dealership, right?
- 2:04:38That you're the service. Yep, Yep.
- 2:04:41So I know you had a long day because your day starts early
- 2:04:44and now it's 9:00. And I mean, I know you're used
- 2:04:47to like no sleep because I don't know that you ever did sleep
- 2:04:49when you're promoting 2 tracks and then you brought on the
- 2:04:52series and all that. But I definitely appreciate you,
- 2:04:54Randy, you know, coming on tonight to talk about what's
- 2:04:57going on in the Lorraine and and I'm definitely rooting for your
- 2:05:00success over there because like I said that seeing it said, it's
- 2:05:03like, man, that's tough because man, that's such a that's such a
- 2:05:06fun track. And so Buju, you would fall in
- 2:05:08love with it day one, just like I did first time there.
- 2:05:12Even with all the chaos, it's like I could go back home, but
- 2:05:15got a hotel stayed, you know, enjoy the racing there and it's
- 2:05:20like used to you want to root for those teams.
- 2:05:22So you're like, they're all in on this.
- 2:05:23So and when you don't give up and you could have like 10
- 2:05:27times, you know, you push through.
- 2:05:30And for anyone who didn't come back on Sunday, shame on them
- 2:05:33because I know not everyone can. But like we were done early and
- 2:05:37then it was great racing. So, so again, check out Lorraine
- 2:05:40Raceway Park out in Amherst, OH, just straight shot down the Ohio
- 2:05:45toll road. Literally once you get on the
- 2:05:47Ohio toll road or Indiana Toll road to to Ohio, once you get
- 2:05:51on, you're not off until that exit and then you turn and you
- 2:05:56go through a stoplight and then it comes up pretty quickly.
- 2:05:59It's almost like a, how do I want to say it?
- 2:06:02What track is similar to it where it's like if you didn't
- 2:06:05know what you were looking for, you pass the sign.
- 2:06:08You can't see the track from the road, but the signs right there.
- 2:06:10So once you get past that light, tread lightly as you go and
- 2:06:14you'll see the sign and then you'll turn.
- 2:06:16But if you don't know what you're looking for, you'll pass
- 2:06:19it and you'll have to turn around.
- 2:06:20But it you go down the little bit dirt driveway and pit, pit
- 2:06:24access is right there or pit access is right there and then
- 2:06:27you curve around and almost like it looks like a ball field was
- 2:06:29there at one point the way it's set up.
- 2:06:30But you curve around the corner and parking the general
- 2:06:33admissions right there. It's metal bleachers, I guess is
- 2:06:36how you would describe it. So definitely can bring seat
- 2:06:38backs, but you guys also have backs, no?
- 2:06:42Yeah, there's there's a part of it that has back seats.
- 2:06:44That's the metal bleachers. And there's wooden bleachers,
- 2:06:47too. Wooden.
- 2:06:47Bleachers on the sides and all that.
- 2:06:49The concessions are great. They took cards.
- 2:06:51You still take card for your concessions.
- 2:06:53So I mean, that's that's what I loved too.
- 2:06:54I could just in my card and walked out with huge chicken
- 2:06:59strips. I mean, they're like, I think
- 2:07:01they went to the school of Lee and Dibble with chicken strips
- 2:07:03there, but huge chicken strips. But again, without support, very
- 2:07:08affordable pricing. So again, Lorraine Raceway Park
- 2:07:11and we've been talking with the promoter, Randy Maggio Junior
- 2:07:14all about it. So again, I know you've had a
- 2:07:17long day. So I'm we don't want to keep you
- 2:07:19any longer because your day starts at what, 7:00 probably.
- 2:07:22Yeah, we start. We start at 7:00.
- 2:07:23I get up about 5:50. I won't be up usually I'm still
- 2:07:29up editing at that point, but all my editing is done for the
- 2:07:33week. I just got to get ready for
- 2:07:34Clash. So I won't be up that still at
- 2:07:37that time when you're getting ready for work, I'm like I
- 2:07:39that's the time I'm slowing down.
- 2:07:40So. But again, Randy, thank you so
- 2:07:42much for joining us tonight. And yeah.
- 2:07:45Thank you guys. Cannot sing your praises enough.
- 2:07:47I've seen you and your team work super hard overcoming things, so
- 2:07:51just keep up the good work. Awesome.
- 2:07:53I appreciate you guys. Thank you.
- 2:07:54Again, thank you. And we've again we've been
- 2:07:56talking with Randy Maggio, junior at Lorraine Raceway Park
- 2:08:00and his family still also owns Painesville, but it as he said
- 2:08:04it is on a three-year lease right now.
- 2:08:06And if you've missed the earlier conversation, we did talk with
- 2:08:09Andy Bozell Racing, which included all four racers, Mason,
- 2:08:14Andy, Phil and Bryce. So they were about 7:43.
- 2:08:18We were three minutes behind with them, but pretty close on
- 2:08:21timing right. And and then we started the show
- 2:08:24tonight with Michigan Auto fan club.
- 2:08:26So one more time before we get off of here because it's nine O
- 2:08:287. So it's about when we use your
- 2:08:31ending. Join today the family just to
- 2:08:34remind everyone the family is not correct.
- 2:08:36They just changed that. So it is a different.
- 2:08:39Unlimited kids. Load all your kids in there.
- 2:08:41Yep, that are 15 or under $25. So that did change.
- 2:08:48Obviously I'm going to show I can't change your graphic now,
- 2:08:50but but two adults $25 and single membership go to
- 2:08:53mark.org/join or you can join in person and if you go to
- 2:08:57mark.org, you can see all their events, their member tracks
- 2:08:59where they go. We counted what 120 bucks that
- 2:09:02you can save just in the month of just in the month of August
- 2:09:06if you went to all their different events.
- 2:09:08But other than that, booze, you, I, oh, I almost forgot this.
- 2:09:14We didn't do it earlier, but no show this Thursday.
- 2:09:16I will be editing the clash because I, I have Corgan oil on
- 2:09:22Friday and I won't get home till like 2 in the morning.
- 2:09:24If it's anything like this past Tuesday or Tuesday, Friday I
- 2:09:30won't be on and then I won't be back till 2:00 AM And then I got
- 2:09:34to get to new pairs by noon the next day and then I'll be at
- 2:09:38calendar with you on Sunday. So I'm editing the clash
- 2:09:41probably as soon as I get home because I won't have time after
- 2:09:43that or it'll be way into way late into the week and not going
- 2:09:47to do it. I'm bored, won't be edited.
- 2:09:49I I will promise that that won't happen, but I'm not staying up
- 2:09:53literally all night. But I'll have Thursday to edit
- 2:09:56things while stuff for downloading.
- 2:09:57But I will start the class when I get home that night because we
- 2:10:01have two classes. Rappers rumble and it's getting
- 2:10:02dark. That's where I'm like my light,
- 2:10:04my clackers not working tonight. It's like I'm going to fade into
- 2:10:06the darkness here and the raccoons are getting super mad
- 2:10:10that they can't come up yet. Yeah, but.
- 2:10:12But So, yeah, no Thursday show just because I will be buried
- 2:10:16deep in editing. It gives Buju a night off too.
- 2:10:19And then I also see that Jace foist he's been on.
- 2:10:24And so he says that he has a car for M40.
- 2:10:28So pretty exciting to see Jace. I know he was in Jason's car,
- 2:10:32his dad practicing with it, so. Oh, absolutely.
- 2:10:38And he's passionate about racing too.
- 2:10:40And I met, I went to his name's Bodie.
- 2:10:43So at the night of destruction yesterday, I got to keep
- 2:10:46reminding myself it was yesterday.
- 2:10:47Then we'll go. I'll just tell the story,
- 2:10:48really. Quick.
- 2:10:51So yesterday I'm walking over by the Hapner's Aaron Hapner, the
- 2:10:55shark we've had on here before too.
- 2:10:57I walk over and they're, they start talking with me, his, they
- 2:11:02start and Bodie, Oh, I don't know his age, but young, you
- 2:11:08know, and he's like, that's all they were telling me.
- 2:11:13That's all he could talk about is do you know the top row guy?
- 2:11:15I love top row and he and he and they're like, and he was telling
- 2:11:20us that you have 4000 followers on YouTube, that he's watched
- 2:11:24everything on YouTube and he looks forward to it.
- 2:11:28And so I made sure that he got some stickers and everything,
- 2:11:30but it was a great, it was a great, absolutely.
- 2:11:33It's a great reminder, you know, because just like with Randy
- 2:11:38Naggio, just with like Lee and Tim going through it, Drew Jacks
- 2:11:40had it. Obviously Randy is added.
- 2:11:42Donnie's had it. You know, Donnie's the one who
- 2:11:44told me about the critters. You heard that flagger boy
- 2:11:47drivers get booed. Like, I get it, it's social
- 2:11:49media and you're not supposed to let it bother you.
- 2:11:51You're supposed to let it roll off.
- 2:11:53But they're just times I'm tired of it where it's like, you know.
- 2:11:55All human. Yeah, I lose too much money
- 2:11:58doing this. I don't have to do this.
- 2:12:00I can sell everything. I, it would hurt because I enjoy
- 2:12:04doing it, but at the end of the day, it's like, I don't know, I,
- 2:12:07this is not making money at all. People think it is, but it's
- 2:12:11like they're uneducated because they just, it's simple math.
- 2:12:14Again, simple math, but people don't want to do simple math.
- 2:12:17They take what someone says and runs with it.
- 2:12:19And because if it's on Facebook, it just must be 100% true.
- 2:12:23And it's like, no, you know what?
- 2:12:24I have so much invested in this, but there are times where it's
- 2:12:28like, I could, I could give up on this.
- 2:12:30It's fine. I can walk away from it.
- 2:12:32I can go back to the sitting in the bleachers eating my chicken
- 2:12:35strips and drink my Pepsi or Coke.
- 2:12:37If I have to settle for Coke and be back to that, not have to
- 2:12:41worry about running around and cameras working and getting
- 2:12:45things set up and all and running social media every
- 2:12:47single day. It's like, you know, this isn't
- 2:12:50if it's not fun anymore, it's time to get out of it.
- 2:12:52And some people are making it not fun anymore.
- 2:12:54But then you got someone like Bodie or Ronnie Plumbers
- 2:12:59daughter and and others who Jason Foy's kid Jace, who come
- 2:13:04around and they're big fans and they can't wait to tell you all
- 2:13:07the things they like watching and how you do it.
- 2:13:10Dylan Cassidy, you know, up at Corrigan and.
- 2:13:13Greg Gasco's daughter I know is a big.
- 2:13:15Fan Yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 2:13:16So it's like that's a reminder that sometimes, yeah, the adults
- 2:13:18suck. And I wish I could say a lot
- 2:13:20more back to them than what I can because I do try to be
- 2:13:22professional. But at the same time, it's like
- 2:13:25you get the kids, you know, like, OK, that's the reminder,
- 2:13:28right? That's the reminder that you
- 2:13:29needed that, you know, there. And it's the silent reminder,
- 2:13:34you know, like David Howe, John Boy, Hotch kiss, John Jackson,
- 2:13:40Gary Angle, you know, a bunch of others, you know, night
- 2:13:43destruction scene, Tabitha and Ralph and a whole bunch of
- 2:13:46drivers there. You know, who are the reminders?
- 2:13:49Like, you know, they're the silent supporters, right?
- 2:13:52Like, you know, they support. They don't need the accolade.
- 2:13:54They don't need to shine it brighten, you know, like a neon
- 2:13:57sign. But sometimes you just read
- 2:13:59comments. You see, see things.
- 2:14:01It's like, and if only people knew.
- 2:14:02But it's like, you know, I don't I don't have to do this.
- 2:14:05No photographer does, videographer does.
- 2:14:07I mean, think of James Dimmitt, think of Bass Racing productions
- 2:14:09who sat as, as Randy said, sacrificing weekends to do
- 2:14:14stuff, missing out on things to do stuff that it's like, you
- 2:14:17know, sometimes I don't blame the racetrack if they put the
- 2:14:20first sale sign on because I'm like, yeah, look at your social
- 2:14:22media people ripping you apart and look at Lorraine, all these
- 2:14:26people, MF them and everything else.
- 2:14:28They opened up the gates, sold out crowd.
- 2:14:30It's like you missed it, didn't you?
- 2:14:32You're on social media about 11 months ago, moaning and
- 2:14:37complaining, but you all came back, you know, So it's like,
- 2:14:42you know, it's just funny, but but I'm excited for Jace, you
- 2:14:46know, because of his passion for racing.
- 2:14:48And it's like, you know, the passion keeps you going, but
- 2:14:50sometimes even passion isn't enough.
- 2:14:52But but I, I'm, you know, meeting Modi yesterday and his
- 2:14:57excitement and I'm like, you probably knew about the 4000
- 2:14:59before I did, you know, because I, I'm like face or YouTube just
- 2:15:03literally told me on Thursday before we came on the show.
- 2:15:06I got the e-mail. And but again, that's where I
- 2:15:09definitely appreciate all the supporters.
- 2:15:13Obviously, Boozoo, you're before day one.
- 2:15:15So I appreciate that you get to come on.
- 2:15:16I'm excited for the platform that you keep building and how
- 2:15:19now I can help that. But then how everyone who's
- 2:15:22getting to know you behind the scenes now, you know, can help
- 2:15:24with that because you have such a passion for it.
- 2:15:27So hopefully, you know, as you get bigger, I keep warning you,
- 2:15:30as you get bigger, you're going to start getting a lot of those
- 2:15:32comments coming your way too. It's coming and you're just
- 2:15:36going to, you're going to have to just get past it, but it's
- 2:15:39not going to be easy. It's going to suck sometimes.
- 2:15:41But other than that, it's 9:15 again, another packed episode.
- 2:15:45Like I said, coming up, we're going to have over the next
- 2:15:48couple weeks, we're going to have tri-state sprints joining
- 2:15:50us with John Boyd Hotchkiss, Sean Sprague as our next
- 2:15:53announcer to come on and talk about that.
- 2:15:56Andrew Bogus who races Oh John Boy's on look at that.
- 2:16:01Thanks for the plug and and again and I'm writing an article
- 2:16:04for them. I just I, as I said, I had a
- 2:16:06headache and everything, but I do want to, I mean, their show,
- 2:16:10if you've not, and I know it's dark, but if you have not seen
- 2:16:12the tri-state sprints, once again, they deliver and it's a
- 2:16:16it wasn't a sold out crowd, but that was the largest Friday
- 2:16:19crowd that Corgan's had in a long time.
- 2:16:22And that's where I feel for like gym leisure because it's such a
- 2:16:26nice facility there. The bleachers are amazing, but
- 2:16:29with Tri-state sprints, they had such, they had a good battle up
- 2:16:33front there. It's on YouTube, you can watch
- 2:16:36it. Cheap plug time.
- 2:16:37We didn't do a cheap plug tonight, cheap plug time.
- 2:16:39But that race was so competitive.
- 2:16:42AJ Laseki ended up winning with the Super Modified.
- 2:16:45So he swept the series at Corrigan.
- 2:16:47He's the card that my camera motherboard burned on.
- 2:16:50But at least we got most of the race minus like 5 laps.
- 2:16:53But but AJ got out there. But you know, when you have 410
- 2:17:00sprints, 360 sprints and supermodified all have the same
- 2:17:03track and it's a competitive show.
- 2:17:06They packed the house or just as they did at Kalamazoo.
- 2:17:09They're I I'm going to try to convince Chris and Tracy to
- 2:17:13maybe think about it and give the Tri states a shot because I
- 2:17:17know in this area, obviously you have 500 Sprint car tour that
- 2:17:20people think about and you had must see, although must see is
- 2:17:22kind of falling off the earth here a little bit.
- 2:17:25But but that tri-state group and they have such an amazing again,
- 2:17:29John Boy behind that David Howe as a big supporter of beacon
- 2:17:32sales and service who joined me and and helped replace those two
- 2:17:36onboard cameras that died because he said you can't be
- 2:17:38without cameras. So buy them and I'm paying for
- 2:17:41them. And again, someone like him to
- 2:17:42stop out Dora, his wife and family.
- 2:17:47And then you got Sean Sprague. You just have a whole bunch who
- 2:17:49are part of that group where they definitely they they have
- 2:17:54no more races for this year, but definitely check for their
- 2:17:56twenty 762027 schedule when that comes out, because if you've not
- 2:18:00seen their show, you need to that they did.
- 2:18:02They say the most competitive sprints on on asphalt.
- 2:18:06And I know people will always roll their eyes when tracks are
- 2:18:08serious, say things like that, but it's like go watch.
- 2:18:11I promise you, you'll walk away thinking it.
- 2:18:13So I just it's huge kudos to them.
- 2:18:17So they'll be coming on here over the next couple weeks.
- 2:18:21I'm going to get them scheduled that way.
- 2:18:22We kind of have like a whole night dedicated to them to talk
- 2:18:27about the series. And then like I said, I have a
- 2:18:31couple other people starting to get lined up.
- 2:18:34So and then Craig Johnson, who I know is on here.
- 2:18:36His team reach. Yep, Hambone, his team reach
- 2:18:38out. How can we get him on?
- 2:18:39I'm like I'm scheduling, let me get ahead and but obviously I
- 2:18:43want to bring Craig on. I want to try to do a champions
- 2:18:46series where I'm going to open it up to if the champion wants
- 2:18:48to come on for 10 minutes and try to do a marathon like every
- 2:18:5210 minutes as a new champion. But give champions a chance to
- 2:18:55come on out and shout out their sponsor, shout out their season,
- 2:18:58shout out who helped them, whether that be at Plymouth,
- 2:19:01whether that be at New Paris or Kalamazoo or M40, wherever.
- 2:19:04I want to open it up to all the tracks and you know my feelings
- 2:19:08sometimes about a place that certainly dislikes me.
- 2:19:11But the Champions obviously deserve their opportunity and
- 2:19:14moment. And you know, you got Cameron
- 2:19:16Mccrudden who is just such a phenomenal young driver, bright
- 2:19:20future head. Obviously they deserve their
- 2:19:22opportunity and moment to shine. So I want to open that up.
- 2:19:26So once Kalamazoo and M40 and all them have their champions
- 2:19:30crime, that's when I'll probably make a post like hey champions,
- 2:19:33I'm going to open it up. You tell me every 10 minutes
- 2:19:35starting at seven O 5 to, you know, then about 7/15/16, then
- 2:19:39seven, you know, I want to try to just cycle through or you
- 2:19:44know, spread them out maybe by track, you know, have 4
- 2:19:47segments, 4 champions, whatever it looks like.
- 2:19:49But that's coming up. So obviously tri-state strength
- 2:19:54will be a part of that because they just crowned their champion
- 2:19:56who's from South Africa. So yeah, he's from South Africa.
- 2:20:02I know they do, yeah. The, I remember the I don't want
- 2:20:04to talk, I don't want to name the series, but I remember
- 2:20:06another series from around here going to South Africa at one
- 2:20:08point. That's interesting that they're
- 2:20:09championing. Yeah, Yep.
- 2:20:11And, and they have some drivers who will go over to South Africa
- 2:20:14I believe this year or somewhere they'll go race over there
- 2:20:17during the winter. I think the Roar went over there
- 2:20:20one time and did some racing over there.
- 2:20:21I think that happened. That could be crazy.
- 2:20:24Yeah, well, and he's coming to the class this weekend, so I'm
- 2:20:28excited for that. And if you haven't, I'm
- 2:20:29promising you. I can't say the name.
- 2:20:31I've been told I'm not allowed to.
- 2:20:33But it's a big name and it might even be on social media by the
- 2:20:36time we get off. But if it's not, I'm still not
- 2:20:38allowed to say it until it's out there.
- 2:20:39But I promise you, this name will be well known coming to
- 2:20:45race. And no, just to spoil everyone,
- 2:20:48it's not Carson Hosavar. Sorry.
- 2:20:51It is not Carson. I can say that it but it is it
- 2:20:56is a big name, so significant name, especially in Clash
- 2:21:01history. So there's your again.
- 2:21:05Yeah, not a man that's still wide open.
- 2:21:08Yeah. No, it's pretty wide.
- 2:21:09Yeah, I'm just, it's pretty wide open.
- 2:21:10I'm just saying that's all you're getting.
- 2:21:12You had some NASCAR drivers come race to clash.
- 2:21:15You had, I mean, you've had a mix.
- 2:21:16So I still didn't give it away but.
- 2:21:17No, no. That's a lot of options, but
- 2:21:19that's what we're. Getting out of here.
- 2:21:21Yeah, I I don't know the answer so.
- 2:21:23Yeah, Nope. I'm excited.
- 2:21:25So again, clashes this Wednesday.
- 2:21:27Hopefully the weather holds off it sounds like.
- 2:21:29I hope, hope everybody has fun up there.
- 2:21:31I'm bummed. I'm gonna miss it, but
- 2:21:32unfortunately I do have to pay the bills.
- 2:21:34So I go to work on Thursday morning.
- 2:21:36But I'm very jealous. Looking forward to it on top of
- 2:21:38racing media. But obviously, everybody should
- 2:21:40go to Kalamazoo Wednesday, if you can, and watch.
- 2:21:42I mean, I mean arguably the marquee race in the area.
- 2:21:46Especially when for the. LA models.
- 2:21:47So yeah, definitely get up there.
- 2:21:49And you know I love me some St. Socks, the ravers.
- 2:21:51Rumble. Oh yeah, ravers rumble as.
- 2:21:52Well. 43 or is it 4643 or 46? It's one of them that's.
- 2:21:58Insane on a Wednesday that's. Crazy on a Wednesday So I mean
- 2:22:02there's no excuse to not come out so but I know like I said my
- 2:22:06light on is not working and before it looks like we're low
- 2:22:08budget operation which. Yeah.
- 2:22:13Yeah, oh, their eyes are already glowing over there, so I know
- 2:22:16they're they're they're wanting their popcorn.
- 2:22:17But but anyways, oh, John boy, I've been to South South America
- 2:22:22racing twice or South Africa. Excuse me, not South America,
- 2:22:25South Africa racing twice. 2000, 2006 Finished.
- 2:22:28Definitely got to talk about that.
- 2:22:29So that's something to look forward to when he's.
- 2:22:31On very soon. Oh yeah, he, I mean, he's
- 2:22:33raised, he's done his thing and obviously he's doing an
- 2:22:35incredible job with this series. So other than that, let me do
- 2:22:38this right, because now I hear Dalton in my head now.
- 2:22:41So all right, Buju, it's almost time to turn left and go fast
- 2:22:44because. We'll see you at the races.
- 2:22:46See everyone?
