- 1:35Ladies and gentlemen, we are now talking to former Nets, Knicks
- 1:39and Raptors point guard, our friend the 1:00 we call Childs,
- 1:44Chris Childs. Ladies and gentlemen, what's up,
- 1:47Chris? What's going on fellas?
- 1:50I'm tired man. Just got in from New York but
- 1:54I'm here ready to put down some knowledge.
- 1:57Well you you definitely put some knowledge down.
- 2:00Just make sure it's not the knowledge I'm thinking about.
- 2:03Hey, real. Hey, real quick, I got a
- 2:05question because I was listening.
- 2:07I was listening to you, yeah, talk about the Chauncey belt,
- 2:10the gambling case. And so I'm trying to figure out
- 2:15what are they charging them with because guys have been cheating
- 2:23and gambling since I got to leave, whether it's fixed dice
- 2:26or whatever. So is it because of the money
- 2:30that they made and they didn't file taxes on it or are they
- 2:33going to get tax evasion charges?
- 2:36What are the What are the charges?
- 2:38That's a good question. And obviously I would say tax
- 2:42evasion. That's definitely something
- 2:44because where's the money going and who's paying for it?
- 2:47So I'm sure that's one of the things I speedy.
- 2:50What is it? What what is he getting?
- 2:52What is the illegal, the illegal issues that they're dropping the
- 2:55hammer with him on? I I don't know exactly.
- 2:57I was like fish to put it up in front.
- 2:58Why are frog conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy alleged
- 3:01involvement in a sprawling illegal gambling operation from
- 3:04rigged high stakes poker games? There you go.
- 3:08I mean, obviously, well, I mean laundering money.
- 3:12If you're making a certain amount of money and you're not
- 3:14claiming it on your taxes, you're laundering money that's.
- 3:18OK, so that's why I'm saying the tax they're making money
- 3:21laundering like their yes, illegal like use this.
- 3:25That's charges that you put it put forth against a drug deal.
- 3:31Now, I don't know Chauncey Billups personally.
- 3:33I know you do, Chris. And I know I've heard that
- 3:35Chauncey is a good dude. He's a good person.
- 3:39When you hear a story like this, I was shocked that Chauncey
- 3:41Billups his name, I was brought up into this conversation.
- 3:44I, I mean, I don't know much about Jones.
- 3:46I've heard about Terry Rozier. Terry Rozier has been betting on
- 3:50sports for a while. It it's not to me.
- 3:53It was no surprise that Terry Rozier's name was being brought
- 3:56up in this conversation. But Chauncey Billups, I mean, I,
- 4:00you know, Chauncey. What type of person is Chauncey
- 4:02Billups? He's not the person that they're
- 4:05betraying to be. I've never seen anything other
- 4:10than class. I remember a story when I was
- 4:12hurt and I was in Detroit and I wasn't playing.
- 4:14He was disappointed because he wanted to play against because
- 4:17he knew that I would bring out the best in them to come out and
- 4:21physically challenge them. So and off the court, just the
- 4:27class personified. So I was, I was shocked.
- 4:30I don't, I don't know all the details and I can't say one way
- 4:33or the other what's true or what's not.
- 4:37The same thing with Damon and Rozier, allegedly.
- 4:41But I know that he got into something before.
- 4:43But I think with this case that the money that the Miami Heat
- 4:50took from him, he got back I guess part of his contract.
- 4:53So it's just a lot going on that we're not aware of.
- 4:57And I guess the truth will come out here eventually.
- 5:02Now obviously with Adam Silver, and I've been saying this about
- 5:07Adam Silver over the last couple of years, he's let the players
- 5:10take over the league. The league is being controlled
- 5:12by the players. It's not being controlled by the
- 5:15owners. It's not going to be controlled
- 5:17by any of the sponsors and executives running these
- 5:20organizations in these teams. It's run by the players.
- 5:23And if a player doesn't want to be there, the player can force
- 5:26his way out to wherever he wants to be.
- 5:28It doesn't matter how much he's making.
- 5:30And I think it's been a big problem over the last couple
- 5:32years. Maybe it's because of LeBron
- 5:34James era, I don't know. But now you have guys like Kevin
- 5:37Durant coming out with these. Well, it's been going on with
- 5:41these Twitter feeds and Twitter accounts that he has and, and he
- 5:45is, he spoke his piece about, you know, the league and where
- 5:49the league is transitioning in. And he thinks that the league is
- 5:53it's, it's in a good place, it's in a good position.
- 5:56But he thinks that some of the players in the league have too
- 5:58much control over the league and and possession of the league of
- 6:03where the league is heading. Do you think that the NBA is
- 6:07the, the one league that has allowed players to push the
- 6:11subject, push the the the issue on control and, and really put
- 6:17themselves center stage where there is no way ownership,
- 6:20there's no way that the league can stop them moving forward
- 6:24because of all the money, all the sponsors and all the TV
- 6:26deals they're getting now today? Well, yeah, it's top revenue.
- 6:29The money has been made, but that's all controlled by the
- 6:32CBA. They signed the deal, you know,
- 6:34they put their signature on it. So the collective bargaining
- 6:37agreement needs to be looked at again.
- 6:39The players are able to push the needle either way they want to.
- 6:43We're either load management or tanking or I'm not going to play
- 6:47or I want this player here. And it's just a lot going on.
- 6:50If they're not on the same page for the front office,
- 6:52management, players, agents. I mean, you got agents out there
- 6:56talking like their own. That's never happened before.
- 6:59You never would have seen baby Fuck whatever the guy was that I
- 7:03was a big time agent. You never seen those guys talk
- 7:06about other players and wanting players to play here and play
- 7:09there. That just wasn't allowed.
- 7:10So I guess you it's some truth to the players are running the
- 7:16league just like the prisoners run the prisoners run the
- 7:19prison. You can't allow that.
- 7:22And it it boils over because it starts in high school and
- 7:26college. These college kids are making so
- 7:28much money with the NIL deals when they should just be putting
- 7:31it in the trust for the kids. But it starts there.
- 7:34Then they get to the NBA and they're making even more money
- 7:37and being able to control whatever narrative it is,
- 7:40whatever team they want to go to.
- 7:41So something. And Kevin Durant can't speak up
- 7:44about it because he's one of the top players in the league that's
- 7:46making a lot of money. So he should speak up, but also
- 7:51be careful what stones you throw because they can be thrown right
- 7:55back at you. So you have to be careful with
- 7:56what you say if you're not living that life or doing the
- 7:59same thing, so. You're talking about the tanking
- 8:00controversy. That was a big thing that was
- 8:02brought up after the All Star break.
- 8:03And like, are these teams trying to lose deliberately?
- 8:06Is there an issue with the NBA lottery?
- 8:08Is there an issue with the way this draft is structured, too?
- 8:10And now you're seeing it with this year's draft being very
- 8:12highly tattered. You talk about one guy, Darren
- 8:15Peterson. That's blow managing a lot of
- 8:17college as it is already with the multiple injuries he's had.
- 8:19What are your thoughts of that whole saga taking over the?
- 8:21Other you can see his face right there.
- 8:25You're in college, you want to play every minute of every game.
- 8:29But I guess when you're making that kind of money, you're up
- 8:32there to be one of the top draft picks.
- 8:34And I've seen football players do it as well.
- 8:36You know, if they're high draft picks and they get a little
- 8:38sprained ankle, whatever, they would just sit out.
- 8:41But I just, I wasn't brought up that way.
- 8:44I didn't play that way. I wanted to play every day.
- 8:47I wanted to play every minute. Now, I can understand you have
- 8:51injuries. You watch your minutes, but you
- 8:54don't sit out for a month or two months and then come back for
- 8:59the playoffs. You play the first two months of
- 9:00the season and the last two months of the season.
- 9:03I mean, my, you know, injuries are a part of the game.
- 9:07If you're hurt, you can play. If you're injured, you can't.
- 9:10I hate it. Being on IR, sitting in a suit
- 9:13behind the bench and watching other players play felt like I
- 9:16was letting my teammates down. A lot of times I came back too
- 9:19soon to play because I hate sitting and watching them go out
- 9:23there and work. But I guess it's, you know, a
- 9:25different era. Guys are trying to protect their
- 9:27brand. I mean, I can, I'll be lying if
- 9:31I say I get it because I don't. But I try not to speak on it too
- 9:35much because I don't want people to, you know, DM me because you
- 9:39DM me. I'm a DM, you back.
- 9:42We are talking to former Nets, Knicks and Raptors point guard
- 9:45Chris Childs. You know, Chris, we're going to
- 9:49get it to the Knicks in just a few moments, but I really want
- 9:52to get into this Laker thing that's going on right now in
- 9:55Lakerville. And I, I'm sure you've heard
- 9:57about it. LeBron James, Luca got a new
- 10:00contract in the offseason. LeBron was the only one that
- 10:03didn't show up to that contract media day, and Luca gave all the
- 10:08players his sneakers, his new sneakers.
- 10:10LeBron never got him. I don't know if LeBron was hurt
- 10:13by it, I doubt it, but it was. It was actually pretty funny
- 10:17when that story came out and now you're seeing that Luca and JJ
- 10:21Redick were going back and forth with one another on on the
- 10:25sidelines and JJ after the game says, oh, we have a good
- 10:28relationship. I don't know why the media takes
- 10:29this too far, but you know that JJ Redick was LeBron James's
- 10:34guy. And if LeBron James is on his
- 10:36way out, it seems like that's where JJ is going because
- 10:40there's no way Luca is going to want JJ there in the long run.
- 10:44Do you think the reason why JJ or how about this Luca is not a
- 10:49big fan of JJ Redick is because of LeBron James?
- 10:53Because there's got to be a reason why these guys don't
- 10:55really see eye to eye. You can tell if you watch the
- 10:58game when they sitting out, when a time out, Lebron's on one side
- 11:01and Lucas on the other. They're never next to each
- 11:03other. Do you believe there's some kind
- 11:05of thought that these two guys really don't like each other?
- 11:08I'm not sure. I'm not there, so I don't know.
- 11:11But I'm not a JJ really fan, so I don't blame Luca.
- 11:15It seems like he talks to guys in a manner that he doesn't have
- 11:18a right to. You don't have a resume to speak
- 11:21to a player of that caliber the way that he tries to.
- 11:24I think when Luca was in Dallas, I think was Carlyle the coach
- 11:28when Luca was there? Yeah, at the.
- 11:29Beginning of his career, yeah. Yeah, so Carlyle was there, and
- 11:32Carlyle's, he's feisty, but he's not going to talk to you in a
- 11:35man. He's going to give you respect.
- 11:37He's going to break it down to you in a manner that you can
- 11:39understand it, but he's not going to disrespect you and talk
- 11:43to you that way. And it just seems like JJ does
- 11:45that and Luca is looking at him like, who are you?
- 11:48You know, and we and everybody knows that the reason JJ got
- 11:52their job was because of LeBron. And I don't think I don't see a
- 11:56big issue with LeBron not being there.
- 12:00But if it was me and you're trying to build a nucleus, I
- 12:05would have showed up so that he knows I'm on the same page as
- 12:08you. This is what we're going to do
- 12:09together. But I never thought that they
- 12:11would mesh well together because Luca dribble, dribble dribbles a
- 12:14lot. You know, I think he's second
- 12:17behind James Harden and then up there with my guy in New York.
- 12:22So he needs the ball in his hand.
- 12:25And LeBron is not someone that's going to sit him in a corner and
- 12:28tell, you know, wait for the ball to come to him and shoot at
- 12:313. So I never, I never thought that
- 12:33that that chemistry would work with them playing together.
- 12:38But I don't know. We'll see.
- 12:40I don't. I don't see JJ being there next
- 12:43year if Lebron's not there, no. Chris Now let's get into the
- 12:48Knicks because there's a lot of questions to the Knicks.
- 12:52Last year they struck out in the Eastern Conference finals.
- 12:55They had they were the better team.
- 12:57They lost against the hot Hal Burton.
- 12:59Hal Burton took his team all the way to the 7th game before he
- 13:01tore his Achilles. He's out for the season.
- 13:03Looks like they're choking, which the NBA needs to fix this
- 13:06because it's absolutely hurting the league.
- 13:08But nevertheless, you have the Knicks and I I think Leon Rose
- 13:12doesn't get enough credit because this guy built this
- 13:16squad, built this Ross him and worldwide W he put the right
- 13:19executives around him. James Dolan has stepping away
- 13:22from the team and he's letting this man control it.
- 13:25A lot of fans didn't like Leon Rose in the beginning, an agent
- 13:28taking over. And yeah, he was the agent of
- 13:31LeBron and yeah, he's the agent of Karl Anthony Towns and Devin
- 13:34Booker. But what does an agent really
- 13:36know about the game and then all these different signings and
- 13:40moves. I mean, Jalen Brunson coming
- 13:42here from Dallas, the second round draft pick had one good
- 13:45playoff run and he's become a star right in front of her eyes.
- 13:48And slowly but surely, he made a trade for OG Anobe, giving RJ
- 13:52Barrett away and quickly building a nucleus of players.
- 13:55And then if you think about it, all the trade deadline moves
- 13:59he's made, Josh Hart, big factor of this team.
- 14:02Think about it now, Jose Alvarado, big factor of this
- 14:06team off the bench. Do you think that Leon Rose now,
- 14:10after all the things he's done and really nothing to say before
- 14:14the end of the season, do you think that he's slowly but
- 14:18surely being more respected by the league and now fans here in
- 14:22New York? Yeah, of course that comes with
- 14:26success. That comes with winning.
- 14:28You know, if you make moves, you don't win, you're going to be
- 14:31the scapegoat. But the guys are winning, the
- 14:33guys are nesting, the guys are playing extremely hard.
- 14:38Just unfortunate. Last night I think they were a
- 14:40little fatigued. But the nucleus of that team,
- 14:45how hard they played, I would like to see, you know, another
- 14:50shooter he added to the team. But defensively, we're there.
- 14:57We had a low the first two quarters, only scored 40 and
- 15:00then I think we scored 40 and a third.
- 15:03But we exuded so much effort in the 3rd to get back in the game.
- 15:08I think we had a couple of defensive lapses in the fourth
- 15:11quarter, but we were still there because the guys refused to give
- 15:15up. The guys continue to fight.
- 15:16They play. So there's no time on the clock.
- 15:19And so I, I like what the, the, the way the team is going either
- 15:26plan, like, you know, Crawford Towns are starting to play
- 15:30better. I want to see him in the post
- 15:32more so that we can get into the bonus early and get some guys in
- 15:35foul trouble. We run a lot of pick and roll.
- 15:38That's our that's our game. But getting them in the post
- 15:40with the mortgage, I think he could do some damage, especially
- 15:44if they're planning on getting smaller guys, he can punish them
- 15:47and get us in the bonus early. But last night, I think the guy
- 15:51just being there and seeing them up close, I think they were just
- 15:53a little fatigue, but they fought through it.
- 15:56It's a, it's a mentality, it's a mental thing.
- 16:00And they they showed in the third and fourth quarter that
- 16:03they're going to fight to the end and it's a great game.
- 16:06So, and also, but also we don't get the benefit of of the 'cause
- 16:10it was some not used as an excuse, but it was some horrible
- 16:14call that, excuse me, didn't go our way.
- 16:17And Shay got, you know, a billion of them, the flopping
- 16:20and stuff. So Branson being a superstar he
- 16:23don't get the benefit of the doubt of getting the calls like
- 16:25other superstars especially at home which.
- 16:28Was about to say that, yeah. Yeah, I was going to mention the
- 16:32they've tracked it all year when certain stats getting more,
- 16:36getting players, getting more stats.
- 16:37Luka Doncic I think was the highest this year at free throws
- 16:40per game and and Shay was second and last year they called him a
- 16:42free throw merchant to like the selective treatment.
- 16:45You think across the league, like I thought it was a LeBron
- 16:47era thing and like LeBron was getting all these calls and
- 16:50James Harden and all these guys. Like you think it's shifted a
- 16:53different direction with the way these games are called and could
- 16:56there also be some betting implications with that so?
- 17:00Geez, I hope not. It wouldn't be a good look for
- 17:03the league. But I mean, it's always been
- 17:05like that certain guys in the league will get the benefit of
- 17:08doubt and get called, especially, you know, after they
- 17:10won a championship and got an MVP.
- 17:12So you know they're going to get the benefit of doubt.
- 17:15And I remember Joey Crawford was a referee.
- 17:19It was Michael and somebody else.
- 17:21And I was like, Joey, that's not a that's not a foul.
- 17:23He was like, he earned it because how many years he
- 17:26played, basically, that's cheating.
- 17:28He earned it. It wasn't a foul, but he earned
- 17:30that call. But that's just the way the
- 17:32league is, guys that are superstars.
- 17:35And and I can't say that the kid Shay does put pressure on the
- 17:39defense, but so does Jayden. You know, he puts pressure on
- 17:42the defense and he get grabbed and he hit a lot.
- 17:46I, I didn't believe until I saw it last night, they physically
- 17:50beat him up. And so it's unfortunate that
- 17:53happens. But he's a, he's a resilient kid
- 17:55and he's, he's smart. I saw how he was interacting
- 17:58with the referees and Santa is bad.
- 18:00He's sorry. And that's how you have to talk
- 18:02to him because they have Eagles, too.
- 18:06Chris going back to the Knicks and a lot of people are going
- 18:10back and forth, who's the number two guy?
- 18:12Who's the number three guy? We, I've been, and I want to
- 18:15give a shout out to the objective, objective Knick fan.
- 18:18I I've been on his podcast. He's sensational Quran and
- 18:21Maxine. They're great and they get a lot
- 18:23of views and a lot of Knick fans really follow them and they have
- 18:27great content. And we went back and forth.
- 18:29A lot of fans were like OG should be the number two guy,
- 18:31but Carl and and then we're fans saying if Carl Anthony Towns
- 18:34becomes the number one or somehow Carl Anthony Towns
- 18:38should take over certain games in the second and third quarter
- 18:41and then let Bronson finish. He's the best closer.
- 18:44Make him take over in the fourth quarter.
- 18:46Do you believe that when Karl Anthony Towns is playing at a
- 18:50high level, he's the number one and Bronson's the number 2?
- 18:53Because a lot of people going back and forth, Mikkel Bridges
- 18:56should be the number 3, but some people think OG and Anobi should
- 18:59be the three. It, there's just, there's so
- 19:01many arguments where this Nick team is and if this Nick, if
- 19:05this Nick team is going to make it, if they're going to go to
- 19:07the Finals and compete against OK C or the Nuggets or whoever,
- 19:10they're going to compete against in the Western Conference and
- 19:12they're going to be they have to go through Detroit and then
- 19:15they're really going to have to go through the Celtics now with
- 19:17Tatum coming back. And I expect them to be just as
- 19:19good going into the playoffs this year.
- 19:21If Tatum's even 80%, do you think that Karl Anthony Towns in
- 19:26some aspects of the game should be the number one and OG in
- 19:30certain games should be the number 2?
- 19:32The Knicks are like an old school R&B group, like a
- 19:35temptation. OK Jalen is David Ruffin, Carthy
- 19:43Towns is daddy Kin. Everybody else is Otis, You
- 19:49know. OK, that's just what it is.
- 19:52That's pretty funny. Yeah, that's what it, that's
- 19:55what it is. He's number one.
- 19:56He's #2 Now they're going to be times and games where cats going
- 20:02to have the mismatch and you got to feed him.
- 20:05The guys the on the team need to understand when he has a six,
- 20:09five guy on him, 6-6, tell him to get his get in the post and
- 20:14let's just feed him. Can't guard him.
- 20:17He's too big and strong. He's too skilled.
- 20:19So he might be #1 some games depend on the mismatch and most
- 20:24nights it's going to be Jalen. But O GS playing well.
- 20:29Bridges is playing well. It's a, it's a, it's a group,
- 20:32it's a band, but there's two lead singers and everybody
- 20:35else's backup dances. It's interesting because a lot
- 20:39of Nick fans are hoping that this is the year, this might be
- 20:43the the best year through the Eastern Conference, being that
- 20:46Halliburton's hurt and Tatum's not 100% and he's not playing 40
- 20:50minutes, even coming back from a torn, torn Achilles.
- 20:54I mean, the fact that he's back now and he's coming back as
- 20:57early as he is, it's pretty amazing.
- 21:00But he there's no way he's playing more than 28 minutes,
- 21:02especially having the injury that he had.
- 21:04Do you think that the team that the Knicks need to worry about
- 21:08going into the playoffs is Detroit or the Celtics?
- 21:10And tell us why one of those teams would be the team that you
- 21:13would be worried about the most. Well, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
- 21:18different. I'm a firm believer that we
- 21:20were. We, we can only control.
- 21:21We can control. The Knicks just need to worry
- 21:24about winning as many games as possible and getting the best
- 21:27seed that we can. Once you get there, everything
- 21:30else, take care of yourself. We know who we're going up
- 21:33against. We know that we can beat them.
- 21:35We know what we have to do. But if you start thinking too
- 21:38far ahead about Boston and Detroit and all those guys, then
- 21:43you're you're putting too much added pressure on yourself.
- 21:45Just worry about what you can control day in and day out,
- 21:48getting better in practice, come to practice to work and getting
- 21:51off to a good start, especially at home.
- 21:54You know, we we can get off to a good start the other night and
- 21:58so we have to do a better job of that and we have to limit our
- 22:02turnovers and get into the bonus as early as possible.
- 22:05I understand these guys have a good team.
- 22:06Boston has a good team, Detroit has a good team, Philly has a
- 22:09good team. All these guys have good teams.
- 22:11We're a good team, but only thing we can control is
- 22:14ourselves and, and what we bring to the table and the outcome.
- 22:19So I don't want, I know what how fans think and what they want,
- 22:22what they expect. But I, I, when I was when I
- 22:26played, we knew all we want to do is get in the playoffs once
- 22:30we got in and we knew who we were going to play, which was
- 22:33the Heat and like, OK, we can beat these guys.
- 22:36So that's when you start thinking about it.
- 22:38But up until then, let's just worry about getting the best,
- 22:42win as many games as possible and getting the best see it as
- 22:44possible. So one of the things that was
- 22:46notable, obviously they got rid of Tom Thibodeau after last year
- 22:49and a lot of the players, I think besides Bronson and a few
- 22:52others were frustrated with him and they go to Mike Brown now.
- 22:55You've seen the pace be different.
- 22:56You've seen the the bench depth with a lot of the young kids,
- 22:58especially the ones they just traded for to be a lot different
- 23:00to. What are the some of the
- 23:01differences you've seen in the coaching style with those two?
- 23:05Well, I I love Tips. He was my defensive coach when I
- 23:09was playing. But but I see the freedom now
- 23:13from the players. I think with Tips he would call
- 23:15plays after a rebound, defensive rebound.
- 23:18These guys want to push, but Tibbs is yelling with him.
- 23:21So guys are turned around trying to run, you know, trying to get
- 23:25in transition. And then you you slow the ball
- 23:27down and you're calling the play.
- 23:29Now you're getting across half court.
- 23:31You only got 1416 seconds to operate.
- 23:34It's hard to operate like that. And then they get on Jalen
- 23:37because he's saying he's dribbling too much.
- 23:39But shoot, he just got the ball over half court because he's
- 23:41waiting for a play. Now he has a little more freedom
- 23:45and they're getting more baskets in transition.
- 23:48So it's just different terminology and coaching.
- 23:50Mike Brown is more of a you play defense after that, we're going
- 23:54to push the ball, Tibbs play defense.
- 23:57Let's make every possession like it's the last possession.
- 24:01You got to give guys some freedom and I think that's the
- 24:04difference with this team this year.
- 24:06We are talking to former Nets, Knicks and Raptors point guard
- 24:09Chris Childs. You know, Chris, we, we look at
- 24:12the league and, and I've been saying this, I wrote an article
- 24:14recently this past week about the point guard position.
- 24:18You played the point guard position in the 90s.
- 24:20And I thought that the 70s and 80s and the 90s was the bigs.
- 24:24It was all about the bigs. When you talk about Shaquille
- 24:26O'Neal and Elijahuan and all these guys, David Robertson and
- 24:30Tim Duncan, these guys and Shaquille, they all dominated
- 24:35all the way. And even in the 80s, Robert
- 24:37Parishes and on and on and on and on.
- 24:40But it's slowly but surely with the new rule changes, it's
- 24:43really become a guard league. Do you know why the the NBA
- 24:48transitioned as as it did from the the Seventies, 80s and 90s
- 24:53to now? And why you think the point
- 24:55guard is the most important position now in all the
- 24:58basketball? Well, that that transitions
- 25:01everything evolves in every sport, change rules, whatnot.
- 25:04But that started I think it was in 99 that it started.
- 25:08There was no more hand shaking. And that's when you couldn't
- 25:11guard Allen Iverson basically because you couldn't touch it.
- 25:14Terrell Brand and Rod Strick and all these great point guard.
- 25:18Just imagine if you couldn't touch Kevin Johnson who was
- 25:21Flash or Blur and now you got you got dual threat point guards
- 25:29that are initiating offense through themselves first usually
- 25:35go through the big guide and back to the guard.
- 25:37But no, it's point guard, 2 guard, small forward, power
- 25:43forward, then the center, you know, And that that had a lot to
- 25:46do with the influx of European players coming over them being
- 25:49more skilled in the States. We're used to having big guys
- 25:53post up, so once they saw the European players coming over and
- 25:57dominating. Now these guys are changing
- 26:00their games to be more small forward centers and power
- 26:03forwards or playing like small forwards.
- 26:07So the game is definitely changing and you need a point
- 26:10guard that is that can go out there and get you 2025 thirty
- 26:14points tonight because the opposing guard is going to get
- 26:17that much. I'm guarding the guy and I'm
- 26:18only, you know, scoring 12 points.
- 26:20You can still control the 12 points and maybe 10 assists, but
- 26:23he's getting 3035 and and 1010 assists.
- 26:29That's that's hard to compete with.
- 26:30So they're looking for more guards that can put up more
- 26:34points than before. You were looking for point
- 26:37guards that can run the offense and get guys in position and
- 26:42have a hefty number of assists. So it's just the game just
- 26:45evolves, you know, every 5 to 10 years, you know, at the game
- 26:52last night and they only had, you know, 40 points at halftime.
- 26:55It took me back to the days I was playing.
- 26:57So then they turn around, score 40 to 30.
- 27:01So that shows you I evolved the the game has become.
- 27:06Every decade, there's one player that dominates the league.
- 27:10Honestly, if you think about it, you think about the 80s, it was
- 27:14Byrd and Magic Johnson, and in the 90s it was Michael Jordan.
- 27:21In the 2000s, it was Kobe Bryant, and you could probably
- 27:26say LeBron James, the transition.
- 27:28And in the last, from 2010 to 2020, it was LeBron James.
- 27:32And now we're seeing a guy in Yokich.
- 27:36We've never seen a player like this ever.
- 27:38This is a guy that can pass, he can rebound, he can shoot, he
- 27:43does everything well. He was a second round draft
- 27:46pick, this guy, and we said that.
- 27:48I said this many, many times, LeBron should have won nine MVPS
- 27:51when he was at the top of the game.
- 27:53He should have won nine MVPS. And then when Michael Jordan,
- 27:55Michael Jordan should have won every single year.
- 27:57I didn't understand that either. But now you're looking at a guy
- 28:02like Nicole Yokich. I'm like, how did he not win the
- 28:06MVP last year? He had a triple double as a big
- 28:09man. Tell me the last big man that
- 28:11ever did that, None of them ever done that, not even come close.
- 28:14And now he's doing it again this year.
- 28:16And now they're saying Alexander is having a better season than
- 28:19he had last year. And Alexander should or could
- 28:22win this. He's a favorite of winning it
- 28:24again this year. Does this make sense?
- 28:26I don't understand it. How do you vote who the MVP is
- 28:30when you have a big man dominating and the way he is?
- 28:34Well, I think one year I didn't, I didn't vote for him.
- 28:39I can't remember who he went up against.
- 28:41But every year after that, I've watched this guy and I used to
- 28:45play against older guys in my hometown like him.
- 28:48And to see him do what he does on ANBA level where these guys
- 28:53are just swatting at him like little kids and he's able to
- 28:57still make plays for other people.
- 29:01I don't, I mean, I haven't seen anybody like that since maybe
- 29:06somewhat Tim Duncan, you know, as far as his ability at the top
- 29:10of the key in passing. But yokish, he's a different
- 29:12beast. And then to see the look in his
- 29:15eyes when he grabbed Williams from OKC.
- 29:18Now I can see why his brothers are crazy.
- 29:20That whole family is freaking scary.
- 29:23Like he was he was like possessed and I, I, I, I love
- 29:29it. I was like that from here, you
- 29:30know, usually just like he's just taking a walk through
- 29:34Central Park. But yeah, it's, I mean, the MVP
- 29:38races, right? It's always finicky, the voting,
- 29:41the people that vote shouldn't be voting.
- 29:43They should be in a retirement home somewhere, you know, eating
- 29:49Red Vines and drinking cheese. You know, they, they, they
- 29:53shouldn't. Be voting they should have some
- 29:56retired NBA players or executives that has played the
- 30:01game understand the game and would would give a fair
- 30:06assessment in voting to the players.
- 30:10Some people have their favorites, some people have
- 30:13their dislikes and that's unfortunately should be biased
- 30:16when it comes to the game of basketball or whoever the Most
- 30:19Valuable Player is. Most Valuable Player is the Most
- 30:22Valuable Player to his team in the league.
- 30:24And it should be the players that vote because I'm pretty
- 30:26sure players would vote for Yokich for the last five years.
- 30:31Guarantee it. It's not even close.
- 30:33I I. I don't, I didn't get it.
- 30:35I never get, I don't get it. How does a big man have a triple
- 30:38double? He's going to have a triple
- 30:40double again this year. Think about it.
- 30:42Who leads the now? Obviously Luka Doncic leads the
- 30:45league with 32 points a game, but obviously Yokic I think is
- 30:48top five. But everything out.
- 30:50Who leads the league in rebounding, Jokic.
- 30:52Who leads league in assist? Jokic, I mean a big man leading
- 30:57the league in assists. Where do you find somebody like
- 31:01that? I mean, these guys do not grow
- 31:03on trees. I mean, it looks like a tree,
- 31:05but they don't grow on trees. And, and, and, and I'm not
- 31:08taking shots at Alexander. He is special.
- 31:10He's great. He's a great player, but he is
- 31:13not Nicole Jokic. Nicole Yokich really doesn't
- 31:16have anybody on his team. Let's be honest.
- 31:18Murray is a good player, but Murray goes wherever Yokich
- 31:21goes. This this team is, is all,
- 31:24everything is run by this man and this man gets double team,
- 31:30sometimes triple team and you still can't stop them.
- 31:32The guy shooting threes, it's like 6050 feet and he's sinking
- 31:36them. I've never seen a big man as
- 31:39good. I honestly think everybody says,
- 31:42well, I saw the list of top ten big men in the league and I I've
- 31:45seen a bunch of these ex players have him at six or five.
- 31:49By the time this guy is done, I would put him in my top three.
- 31:54I might even put him at one. The the only thing that I I
- 31:58would question him is his defensive skills, his prowess.
- 32:02He's not as good of a defender as an Elijah Wan or as a good a
- 32:06defender as a David Robertson or or Tim Duncan.
- 32:10He doesn't have that ability, but he's everything else.
- 32:14I mean, none of those guys can even touch this man.
- 32:17None of them. Well, I think a lot of.
- 32:19The guys sentiment as far as where they rank him is because
- 32:23he hasn't played against the type of talent center wise guys
- 32:28in the 90s and 2000 and 2010 they played against.
- 32:31He didn't have to go up against an Elijah Wan, a Shaq, A Kareem,
- 32:35Patrick Ewing, the David Robinson most I mean all the
- 32:38great, great center so, but you can't blame him for that.
- 32:41That's just where he he wasn't born.
- 32:44You can only judge him against what he's done on the court,
- 32:48against the talent that was put forth to to him.
- 32:51I want to know who his mother and father is.
- 32:54I want to know who trains him. I want his birth certificate
- 32:57because I think he's older. Than he claims to be.
- 33:01Because he's too polished in so many different areas of the
- 33:04game, your basketball IQ has to be out the roof to be able to do
- 33:09what he does and be as slow as he is.
- 33:11So everybody look at the numbers.
- 33:13I watch his footwork. When he plays in his hands.
- 33:16He has great hands and he has great footwork.
- 33:18He's a big, big man, but he doesn't exert that type of
- 33:23energy that most NBA players exert other than when he's
- 33:27getting offensive rebounds, other than what if he's going to
- 33:30push it up to court? But everything he does is
- 33:33methodical and is well planned out.
- 33:36See you, We're all about speed, you know, teach you speed and
- 33:40power and strength. He uses that against guys and
- 33:43they have yet to adjust. Like he wants to feel you.
- 33:46He'll bump you off and he'll spin off you.
- 33:49So guys, they need to do the old Rick Mahorn trick and start
- 33:52pulling the chair from behind him and get him off balance
- 33:55because if he feels you're buying it, there's nothing you
- 33:57can do with them because it's too big and too skilled.
- 34:00Rick Mahorn, I haven't heard. That name in a long time.
- 34:02Detroit. Remember the Pistons guys?
- 34:04Rick Mahorn was part of the bad Piston teams with what's his
- 34:10name again? Joe Dumars.
- 34:14Joe Dumars, yeah. Isaiah Thomas?
- 34:18Yeah. Yeah, Sally.
- 34:20Yeah, John. Sally, huh?
- 34:22John is one of the nicest people I've ever met off the court, one
- 34:26of the and his podcast is pretty great.
- 34:28If you guys like basketball, John Sally has a podcast.
- 34:31He tells a lot of great stories and he's got a lot of them so
- 34:36and he has a lot of stories. But a lot of them are
- 34:38fabricated. There's my buddy Rick Tricky.
- 34:44Ricky. Tricky Ricky.
- 34:47And boy oh boy, they wore their shorts right up to there.
- 34:50You know what? How do they run?
- 34:54In that when it's up all the way up to the grind.
- 34:56I mean, seriously, I would never be caught dead wearing those
- 34:59shorts I wore something like that in.
- 35:02College, but I had the tights underneath it so they didn't
- 35:04look as bad. Oh man, oh man, Chris.
- 35:11Same guy for compression shorts. Well, you know.
- 35:15Did you see Kobe Bryant? Kobe Bryant bought into, what
- 35:20was it? What's the brand that he poured
- 35:23into? I I think it was all done Armor.
- 35:26What's that? Under Armour?
- 35:28He bought into Under Armour. He put $6 million into Under
- 35:31Armour or $9 million into Under Armour.
- 35:34He just sold his. Well, he's may rest in peace,
- 35:38but he he sold his. Stake.
- 35:42His wife just made $600 million off that stake.
- 35:46Think about this. Could you imagine that?
- 35:49600 I mean that guy. Was a way.
- 35:51Ahead of his time, think about it.
- 35:53He took a chance, put $9 million into something nobody's even
- 35:58heard of. A guy was selling shorts and
- 36:01hats outside of the back of his car, put $9 million or $6
- 36:04million into it, and just his stake just sold for $600
- 36:08million. It's ridiculous.
- 36:10I hope people. I hope I.
- 36:11Hope people don't take this the wrong way, but if that was me I
- 36:15would come back from the dead to get my 600 million.
- 36:21I'm like, baby, you ain't, you ain't.
- 36:22Spending all that money, I'm coming back for that.
- 36:25But that's, that's, that's awesome, man.
- 36:28Congratulations to the Bryant family.
- 36:33I don't know who was over his estate or who was keeping that
- 36:37because and she, she must have been on top of everything
- 36:41because you know, a lot of times stuff like that happen.
- 36:44Whoever the accountant is or whoever is handling this
- 36:46business would see that as opportunity to steal or do
- 36:50something they shouldn't have to.
- 36:52So kudos to Vanessa for being on top of everything.
- 36:57Congratulations. Speaking of raising.
- 37:00Money. You're doing such a great job
- 37:02raising money for kids and college tuitions and all that
- 37:05other stuff. Tell the fans what they can do
- 37:07to help you raise money to make sure that these kids are getting
- 37:10an education. Well, most of most of the stuff.
- 37:13I do is through private donors. Anybody that wants to touch and
- 37:16help can reach me by e-mail, goldenchilds@gmail.com and then
- 37:22I'll explain everything. But we just basically give kids
- 37:24an opportunity that might not have an opportunity to go to
- 37:27college. Everybody can go to college, so
- 37:29we teach them and put them in school to get a skilled trade.
- 37:34People look at different things, carpenters, plumbers and
- 37:36different things like that's beneath them.
- 37:38But we, I have friends, we have plumbers that make over $160,000
- 37:43a year. Carpenters make almost $200,000
- 37:47a year. So I know college is not for
- 37:49everybody, but we put them in positions to learn the skilled
- 37:53trade. And then we also do things in
- 37:55the community, feeding the homeless every other month,
- 37:59especially when it was cold, when they didn't have shelter.
- 38:02We had tents and blankets, coats, gloves, different
- 38:08necessities that they need to get through these rough times in
- 38:12the winter and summertime. So if anybody wants any more
- 38:16information, I can be reached at goldenchild@gmail.com and I'm
- 38:20going to donate. I do it every year.
- 38:22Speedy donated money and we, we love you man.
- 38:25And we love when you come on and when you come out here, when
- 38:28you're doing some kind of event, what you should reach out to us.
- 38:31We would love to work. We'll do a broadcast there.
- 38:34We'll interview some of the kids.
- 38:35We'll, we'll bring, we'll bring the fire over there and make
- 38:38sure that your project and, and what you're doing and the
- 38:41benefit of all the money that you're raising for these kids is
- 38:44going to be out there to the public.
- 38:46So if, if you're doing something out here, let us know.
- 38:48We would love to come and represent you guys.
- 38:51I would love to have you guys there.
- 38:52And I'll definitely or the next time I'm in the New York area,
- 38:55even if we're not doing anything, we can catch up, get a
- 38:58bite to eat and just talk sports and just really get to know each
- 39:01other on an up close and personal basis because we we
- 39:04talk to each other. I love being on the show.
- 39:06I think you guys are hilarious. I think you guys are well
- 39:09knowledge with everything you guys talk about.
- 39:12And that's why I don't have a problem coming on here sharing
- 39:14the things that I've learned over the years and like listen
- 39:19to you guys talk as well. So anytime, brother.
- 39:22How's the glove? How's the glove doing over
- 39:24there? How's the glove?
- 39:27How's the? Glove How is Gary?
- 39:29Payton doing Gary, It's Gary. We supposed to be in New York
- 39:34next week. My son is coming down with his
- 39:38wife and grandkids and I he just told me that that thank you
- 39:42thank you that big Gary is coming down.
- 39:44So I got to get him and and Stephon Marbury together so I
- 39:49can just sit there and listen to them both talk because Steph
- 39:52likes Steph likes to talk and Gary likes to talk.
- 39:56And then me, I guess me and Patrick, and we'll get John
- 39:59there as well. John Starks, because he likes to
- 40:02bump his gums as well. So yeah, it'll be a good time.
- 40:06Well, I would love to. Be the fly on the wall when I
- 40:10listen to Gary Payton and Stefan Marbury.
- 40:12I play ball with Stefan Marbury on the in the streets when he
- 40:17was before he went to Georgia Tech.
- 40:19I, I I lived in Brooklyn. I played in Brooklyn.
- 40:22I played street ball over there in Flatbush Ave.
- 40:25I know. I knew Telifair.
- 40:26I knew all of them. Kenny.
- 40:29Kenny Anderson was there. I got a chance to know a little
- 40:31bit about Kenny. Yeah.
- 40:33So. I played a little street ball.
- 40:34And Stefan, there was something about him when he was playing
- 40:37street ball that you just like, this guy is going to be special.
- 40:40You just watched him. He was like, it was like even
- 40:44when he was doing a layup, when he was going up and crossing
- 40:46over and going right to the hole, I was like, this guy's
- 40:49special, you know, So and, and watching him play the game, even
- 40:53when he went to China, they built a statue of him over
- 40:56there. I mean, he's a God over there.
- 40:58So and over here in New York, he's considered a God too.
- 41:01They love him and they respect him.
- 41:03So yeah, he, he's a, he's a great.
- 41:05Guy, a lot of guys that grow up in the New York area and have to
- 41:08play for the Knicks and the Nets.
- 41:10It's a lot of pressure. And for him to make that
- 41:12decision to go to China, which I know it probably it was a tough
- 41:16decision, but it was probably the best decision for him
- 41:18because he can finally exhale and go over there and just play
- 41:21the game that he loved. And you know, going over here to
- 41:24China, which they want you to win, to win as many titles as he
- 41:29has. He's I've talked to him at games
- 41:31and stuff. He's king over there and he's
- 41:33doing a lot of great things in the States as well.
- 41:35Big up the stuff. Yeah, I used to buy his. $10
- 41:39sneakers or dollar sneakers when he was selling them, they used
- 41:42to. And I'll tell you, Steph, I'll
- 41:45never take shots of what they look like, but when you put them
- 41:48on, they always ripped. They always broke.
- 41:51I would play basketball with them.
- 41:52Within two or three times using them, the soles would come off.
- 41:55I was like, what? What the hell is he building
- 41:58these things with? Is he stitching them on himself?
- 42:00Just don't send him to Duke. Otherwise we'll have.
- 42:02Another Zion Williamson huge breaking incidents you.
- 42:06Can't use is glue on sneakers. Well, he's probably doing that.
- 42:12But Chris, Chris, we love you, man.
- 42:16I I love you guys too. I I'm going to send you.
- 42:19I'm going to send you some, you know, obviously money to your
- 42:22charity and I I want I let's let's get together, man, when
- 42:25you come out here, we would love to get together.
- 42:28Let's stay in touch, and I will. And by the.
- 42:31Way I will. We've got a.
- 42:32New show. Well, our show is transitioning.
- 42:36We're going to be bringing Quinton couples.
- 42:37Remember, Quinton Couples? I remember.
- 42:39Yeah. Yeah, Quinton.
- 42:40Couples New York Jet. First round draft pick, he's
- 42:42going to be joining the show and working with us moving forward.
- 42:45So we're very excited about that.
- 42:47Quinton's very excited about it and we're going to do some big
- 42:50things. And I, I just so you know, on
- 42:52Spotify and Apple, we have been at one point in the last past
- 42:56week and a half, we were a top 100 show, 56th in the country.
- 43:01So yeah, Yep. And right now, right now we were
- 43:05ranked. Today we were ranked 158th.
- 43:08It fluctuates, man, but we're putting up we're putting up
- 43:11great numbers and we're very excited for the future of where
- 43:15the show is going. And one of the reasons why your
- 43:18guests like you, people and personalities like you that come
- 43:20on and give us your take and like it or love it or you hate
- 43:24the Knicks or you hate this person, hate that person, you,
- 43:27you tell it how it is. And, and I love that about you
- 43:30is that you've always been honest when you've come on this
- 43:32show. You've never, you know, you
- 43:33never hid from anything that you said.
- 43:36Like you said, if you know, if I was gone, don't take it the
- 43:40wrong way. I'm I'm coming back for my $600
- 43:43million. I mean, you're not lying.
- 43:45You're not lying, my friend. And I'm pretty sure a lot of
- 43:47other. People would say the same thing.
- 43:49I'm afraid to say because I didn't say it to offend anybody.
- 43:51I'm saying it like, damn that is great, but I'm coming back to
- 43:55spend some of that money. So.
- 44:00Yeah, man. It's great.
- 44:01That you guys are doing that, man, because you guys are
- 44:03knowledgeable. You're knowledgeable about what
- 44:04you're talking about. So people are intrigued by that.
- 44:07And then if your guests come on and be honest and they're
- 44:10knowledgeable and they're just not shooting the BS, then you're
- 44:13going to do good numbers. So I'm glad that I was able to
- 44:15be on here. And like I said, anytime you
- 44:18guys need me, you know how to reach me.
- 44:20We appreciate you, Chris. Chris, by the way, I wishing you
- 44:22all the. Best with your mother-in-law?
- 44:23Absolutely. I didn't want to say anything.
- 44:25I don't want to say. Anything I don't want to.
- 44:27But I, I hope everything's going well with your family.
- 44:30I was going to send you an e-mail or send you a text Give
- 44:33speedy your number so we can I have, I have his number.
- 44:35All right, so. Let's let's.

- 44:38But I, I heard everything. I, I really hope everything's
- 44:42going well with your family. I appreciate it.
- 44:45Guys, thank you so much. Absolutely Chris Childs, ladies
- 44:48and gentlemen. Come on, give him a golf clap.
- 44:50Oh, yeah, give him a golf clap. You know, that's like a Patty
- 44:53cake for you, Speedy. Please, man.
- 44:57All right, ladies and gentlemen, we've got another segment and we
- 45:01call this All righty, then. All righty then.
- 45:07All righty then let's click it and stick it.
- 45:13Here we go, all. Righty then guys.
- 45:17Welcome back to our weekly segments.
- 45:20This is Arrows Literary segment. If you haven't been coming to
- 45:23the worldwidesportsradio.com. That's where we house a lot of
- 45:26the clips from the show as well as all the sports writing done
- 45:30by Errol and our team of writers, as well as guys working
- 45:34for and our media himself, our PR guy, Nithin Ramachandra
- 45:39hanging out on the backstage right now.
- 45:41What we're going to do is go. That's a whole mouthful.
- 45:43That's like. Ramachandra.
- 45:44What was it? Come on Speedy, do it with a
- 45:46little bit of flair. Ramachandra.
- 45:49Ramachandra, come on, how about you?
- 45:51I think it's a soft shot. Come on poops, give me, give me
- 45:54your take. Give me one.
- 45:55Give it to me, Give it to me. Let it flow, Let it flow.
- 45:58Ramachandra. Ramachandra.
- 46:02Like a tundra like a like a like some like a thumb.
- 46:04Tommy, Tommy How would a. Wrestling ring announcer say his
- 46:09name. Oh, that is that.
- 46:11The NR Media Nithin Ramachandra. He's lost his hair.
- 46:22Let's all highlight. The fact that Nathan finally.
- 46:23Doesn't have a played wall in his background.
- 46:27He is. Everywhere this guy goes, he
- 46:29doesn't have anything on the walls.
- 46:32He looks like he's in a jail cell.
- 46:33Is a blank house well. Nathan has added the color black
- 46:38to go along with the color white to his wall.
- 46:41Congratulations on that one. We're going to go through the
- 46:44article. Dibansa wants 40 minutes,
- 46:47Peterson wants race packs, and Boozer wants your soul.
- 46:51After I give you excerpts from this article, you get the whole
- 46:54thing again on worldwidesportsradio.com.
- 46:57Speedy is going to go through some of our comments on Reddit
- 47:00and you can interact with us on Reddit.
- 47:02And if you want to have your comments read on next week's
- 47:04episode edition of Alrighty, then stay tuned and comment on
- 47:10the articles. Here we go.
- 47:12Starting off right here, the NBA.
- 47:14Draft debate that's breaking my brain, and probably yours too,
- 47:17by Mr. L Marks. All right, basketball junkies,
- 47:20draft nerds, and the three guys on Twitter who think they could
- 47:23have guarded MJ in the 90s, Let's talk about the Holy
- 47:27Trinity of this year's NBA draft debate.
- 47:29AJ Debansa, Darren Peterson and Cameron Boozer.
- 47:33And yes, the basketball world says it's between Peterson and
- 47:36Debansa, but you, you're pounding the table for Boozer
- 47:39like you're flipping a poker chip at a draft night casino.
- 47:43And I love it. Let's get into it.
- 47:45Errol Marx, Jabba and the mouse style.
- 47:48So we got the Bansa. I'll play 40 minutes and then
- 47:51ask for five more. Darren Peterson, get bucket
- 47:55getter with a trainer on speed dial.
- 47:58But Cameron Boozer, the Duke villain you secretly want on
- 48:03your team. Cameron Boozer, son of former
- 48:06NBA All Star Carlos Boozer, plays for the mighty Duke Blue
- 48:10Devils, coached by John Shire. Pedigree.
- 48:13Check. Intensity.
- 48:14Check. Double check.
- 48:16Motor doesn't turn off. Peterson might get hot.
- 48:20The Banson might. Dazzle, dazzle.
- 48:23Boozer imposes. He plays like the he owes the
- 48:26game something. And let's be honest, do players
- 48:29come in NBA ready because they've already been hated by
- 48:32America? That's character development,
- 48:36Speedy. All right, so we're gonna start
- 48:38with the team. Groups.
- 48:39We'll start with the Wizards 1, because the Wizards group
- 48:41actually was the most successful with this article, so this is
- 48:43first from low brass. Well, first of all, how many?
- 48:46People actually viewed this in the Wizards group.
- 48:48It was 19. 1000 the total all together all about 22,022
- 48:52thousand so we'll. Start with low brass rumble.
- 48:54Boozer fits so well with Alex. Sorry.
- 48:55Obviously their number two overall pick from a few years
- 48:58ago and I'm a huge fan of his high processing, methodical
- 49:01game. However, he's a shorter than
- 49:02average power 4 without a great vertical.
- 49:04He was also mentioning the overall physicality compared to
- 49:07other power forwards in the NBA. Thank you low Brass for giving.
- 49:10Us your take and yeah, he's a little bit smaller and and
- 49:14obviously his vertical leap is not the NBA style of vertical
- 49:18leap that you're going to pick in the top three.
- 49:20But here's the thing that he gives that a lot of these these
- 49:22other players consistency. This guy's is consistent of a
- 49:26player right now in the country. He plays for Duke.
- 49:28Duke has a great bunch of young guys playing with him, but he is
- 49:32the guy that they're putting the ball in his hands at the end of
- 49:35the game. If Duke is down or Duke is up by
- 49:385:00 and then they're close out the game, this is the guy that
- 49:41closes the game. This guy has a tremendous 18
- 49:43foot jump shot. He can shoot the three.
- 49:45He's only going to get better. His shots only going to get
- 49:47better. His inside game and his fade
- 49:50away jumpers, everything that he does, especially getting to the
- 49:53whole is consistent athletically gifted.
- 49:56He's not as athletically gifted as a Peterson or the Banza, but
- 50:00he he has the ability to do those things that can dominate
- 50:03games. And the one thing I don't want
- 50:05to see is him going to Indiana. That's the one thing I don't
- 50:07want to see this. This next one is from.
- 50:09A next group This is Fishy Blue, 11.
- 50:11He thinks Boozer is safe from a valuable standpoint.
- 50:14A primary perimeter creator will be more valuable in the playoffs
- 50:17because the number one thing is to have individual shot
- 50:19creation. Hold on one second, Fishy blue.
- 50:22Thank you for giving us your date.
- 50:23Hold on. What was the what was the word
- 50:26that I I disagree with Speedy, Could you guess Individual?
- 50:29No. Safe.
- 50:31Boozer is safe. I would not put Cam Boozer and
- 50:37use the word safe. This guy is an All Star.
- 50:40This guy's going to be an NBA All Star, a 9 or 10 year NBA All
- 50:44Star. He's going to be a superstar
- 50:45player in the NBA. He's a superstar player right
- 50:49now in college. He's probably going to win
- 50:51player of the year. He's definitely, he's definitely
- 50:53going to be ACC Player of the year.
- 50:55And you called him safe. Disagree.
- 50:58All right, we'll shift the gears a little bit.
- 50:59This one's just more to the Peterson end of it.
- 51:02This is okay instance 5059. The Pearson saga will get very
- 51:05interesting, especially if he gets pushed down to three and
- 51:07comparing him to head cases like DeAndre and obviously the
- 51:10scandal at Arizona, John Morant and the great Ben Simmons I
- 51:13compared him to last week. If a guy didn't want to keep
- 51:16playing, okay, he's better than all of them.
- 51:19He's bought, he's better than Ayton, he's better than Ben
- 51:21Simmons, he's better than Morant.
- 51:23His all around game is as good as anybody who's seen come out
- 51:25of the draft in 15 years. Some people say he's the most
- 51:28talented out of all the three guys that everybody keeps
- 51:31talking about. Problem with him is he didn't.
- 51:33The story is is he was promised some NIL money, more NIL money.
- 51:38He didn't get it. So now he's not playing as hard.
- 51:40He doesn't want to play as much. He wants to protect himself
- 51:43because he wants that big money after college basketball.
- 51:47And that's why a lot of people don't give Kansas any chance in
- 51:50the tournament because if if Peterson isn't playing, Darren
- 51:53Peterson isn't playing at a top level, they don't have a chance
- 51:56against some of the powerhouse teams like Arizona or Duke or,
- 52:00or how about Houston? Any of those teams.
- 52:02So I would agree with you, but I I think the only thing I would
- 52:06say that I would disagree with you is Peterson's going to be
- 52:09better than all three of those guys because of his ability.
- 52:12All right, let's go to. This one is from.
- 52:13A Duke group I believe, a 15 warrior, 15 boozer and an
- 52:16awesome college player but I don't I don't think his NBA
- 52:18ceiling is as high as others. He's just one of those guys that
- 52:20develops quicker at a younger age.
- 52:22Definitely national player of the year but doesn't see the
- 52:24number one pick. Thank you. 15 Warrior for giving
- 52:28us your take. Here's the thing, every place,
- 52:31every every position he was in from 8th to 9th to 10th, every
- 52:35grade, this guy was the best player on the court.
- 52:38He was ranked number one in the nation, number one in the nation
- 52:41coming out and going and going to play college ball.
- 52:44Now Darren Peterson's great and we understand what the Banza is.
- 52:50His father was an All Star. His father was successful and he
- 52:54has a better understanding of a game and and his game than his
- 52:58father does. Carlos Boozer ended his career
- 53:00with 16 points. He was a career 8 or 9 rebound
- 53:03guy. Boozer to me is going to be
- 53:05better than his father if his if he's if he was averaging 16 and
- 53:098 or 16 and 9, this kids going to average probably seven or
- 53:12eight points more than his father.
- 53:15If he's doing that, he's doing Carmelo Anthony numbers.
- 53:19That's an that's an All Star, that's a Hall of Famer.
- 53:21This guy's a Hall of Famer to say that his game wouldn't fit
- 53:24in the NBA and he's he's already hit the Max of development
- 53:29that's ridiculous. The kids 18 years old.
- 53:31He's got a lot of game. He needs his body to be filled
- 53:34out. This guy is going to have all
- 53:35the ability in the world to be maybe even a 30 point score in
- 53:39the NBA. All right, last one for this was
- 53:41capable. Sandwich 422 kind of a mixed bag
- 53:43here. Die bands of the top pick.
- 53:45Cam is probably the third pick. I don't think the stuff with
- 53:47Darren Peterson will manage much because the NBA already does low
- 53:50management. So Peterson was already NBA
- 53:52ready first of. All thank you to Sandwich for
- 53:5822. I'll just say sandwich for. 22 I
- 54:02think it's a great take and I think he's right.
- 54:04Peterson has really protected himself all season long and it's
- 54:08the LeBron James protection. LeBron plays a certain amount of
- 54:12games. Actually, you know, who's been
- 54:14really taking over when it comes to the advantages of these,
- 54:17these advantages in the NBA is, is Embiid.
- 54:20Embiid. I don't want to play
- 54:21back-to-back games. I I don't have to.
- 54:23I'm a 50 to me, I'm making $50 million and I'm an MVP candidate
- 54:28every single year when I do play.
- 54:30Here's the thing, I, I, I do believe that the NBA works in
- 54:35Peterson's favor and a lot of people think that Peterson's
- 54:40game fits the best out of all three of these guys.
- 54:42What worries me about Peterson is not his game, it's his his
- 54:47will and wanting to play. If this guy gets hurt, he he
- 54:52hurts his his ankle, high ankle sprain, which we've seen Jaylen
- 54:56Brunson have tons and tons of times, or hurts his wrist.
- 54:58Is he going to sit out a couple of weeks because he's making the
- 55:01money or is he going to try to rush back because he wants to be
- 55:03a good teammate and he wants to win championships?
- 55:06I don't think out of all three of these guys, I would say the
- 55:10Banza is the one that wants to play more minutes and he wants
- 55:13to win his many championships. I think Boozer want it's all
- 55:16about legacy with him and Peterson.
- 55:18It's all about money. So out of all three of these
- 55:21guys, that's how I would rate these guys.
- 55:23But I still believe Cam Boozer is the best player going into
- 55:27this class. And if people fail to to know
- 55:30that or respond to what I'm saying here, you will see give
- 55:34it 3 or 4 years. This guy is going to be one of
- 55:36the top five top 6 scorers in the NBA because he has the
- 55:40outside game and the inside game to dominate.
- 55:43Maybe not as athletically gifted or he doesn't have the size of
- 55:47the Banza or Peterson. But what this guy has, those
- 55:51guys don't they? He has a father that played in
- 55:53the NBA. He is.
- 55:55And I, we've said this many, many times, Speedy how many
- 55:57players have gone to the NBA or gone to the NHL or gone to the
- 56:02NFL that their fathers were stars in the league and really
- 56:05developed into either better players or stars like their dad?
- 56:08There's not many of them. This guy, there is one Patrick
- 56:11Sir Tan. His father was a star in the
- 56:13Hall of Famer and Patrick Sir Tan is going to be a star.
- 56:16Well, he is a star and he's going to be a Hall of Famer when
- 56:19he's done. There's very few players like
- 56:21Deion Sanders. That's why Shidor Sanders is
- 56:23getting a bad rap because his father said, oh, my son's the
- 56:27great. He's a great, great player and
- 56:29he's going to be a superstar in the NFL.
- 56:31But prime was one of the greatest at his position and his
- 56:34son is not going to be one of the greatest at his position.
- 56:37You could see it. And neither will, Neither will
- 56:39the great Brody. That's true.
- 56:41Ronnie James is another one. Dwyane Wade son is playing for
- 56:44the G League for the Utah Jazz because his his his father has a
- 56:48piece owns a stock of the company and of the organization.
- 56:52I'm I'm only saying this Cam Boozer, his father was an All
- 56:56Star play for Team USA, was a great player and also great
- 57:00college player. He's better than his dad.
- 57:03Think about that. There are not many NBA players
- 57:07that transition like that. Look at Carmelo Anthony's son
- 57:09right now. He's trying to get to the NBA.
- 57:12He's playing for Syracuse. He's not doing so well over
- 57:14there playing NCAA basketball. Carmelo was player of the year,
- 57:19won a championship, won a national championship his one
- 57:22year that he was playing for Syracuse, and it was the only
- 57:24championship that Syracuse won in in the last 30 years.
- 57:28So what I'm trying to say here is it's not easy, you know,
- 57:32being in somebody's shoes, especially your father's, and to
- 57:36be considered better than your dad going going into the NBA
- 57:39next year says a lot about who he is.
- 57:41That's all I'm going to say about that.
- 57:43So there you go. All right, We're going to get in
- 57:46some Luka Doncic action as we we know there's stuff going on over
- 57:52there in Lakerville. Here it is during Saturday's
- 57:56game between the Lakers. Boy oh boy was that a funny 1
- 58:00and the Warriors. A video surface surfaced of a
- 58:04heated exchange between Luka Doncic and Lakers head coach JJ
- 58:08Reddick. The video shows that Reddick
- 58:10following Doncic down the court when he was trying to call a
- 58:15time out so he could sub Doncic out of the game.
- 58:19As Luca left the court, you can see that the two of them yelling
- 58:24at each other before Lakers forward Jarrett Vanderbilt
- 58:28stepped between them. Boy, you guys got to look at
- 58:32this video. It is is absolutely crazy.
- 58:35Reddick said after the game that shouting matches like this
- 58:38happen frequently and says he always believed he and Luca have
- 58:44a great relationship with each other.
- 58:46Several Lakers sources also downplayed the incident, saying
- 58:51there isn't a superstar player in the NBA that wouldn't be
- 58:55frustrated with a three-game losing streak, which is what the
- 58:59Lakers were on for their win that night.
- 59:04Reddick says how he manages the tension like this instance is a
- 59:10big reason why he wanted to coach a big market like the
- 59:15Lakers. The Lakers have won three games
- 59:17in a row since the incident, and Luka Doncic has scored 26 points
- 59:22or more in all three games. They visit Nikola Jokic and the
- 59:26Denver Nuggets tonight, trailing them by only a half a game game
- 59:31in the playoff standings for the fifth seed in the Western
- 59:34Conference. Let's be honest, guys, you heard
- 59:38it from Chris Childs. I think everybody knows the big
- 59:42picture here. Luka Dodgek does not like JJ
- 59:46Redick. Why doesn't he like JJ Redick?
- 59:48Because he's Lebron's guy. Luka and LeBron do not like each
- 59:53other. I don't think anybody is
- 59:56blindsided to notice. They don't like each other and
- 1:00:01all the players love Luca. He goes to practices, he's the
- 1:00:05first one they're practicing, and he's the last one to leave.
- 1:00:09He plays his heart out. Yeah, he's an injury prone
- 1:00:12player and it's been a big problem when he was playing for
- 1:00:14Dallas. And if Luca is not 100% healthy,
- 1:00:17are the Lakers ever going to win a championship?
- 1:00:19Who knows. But Luca took a Dallas Maverick
- 1:00:22team to the Finals. He's taking a Dallas Maverick
- 1:00:26team. To the Western Conference
- 1:00:28Finals. This is a guy that can win.
- 1:00:32This is a guy you can build your team and your organization
- 1:00:35around. Nico Harrison didn't believe it,
- 1:00:37but everybody and their mother believe it as they thought that
- 1:00:41this was the worst trade in NBA history, which I would beg not
- 1:00:45to differ. The fact here is JJ Reddick will
- 1:00:50not be here at the end of the season, especially if LeBron
- 1:00:53James takes his talents somewhere else.
- 1:00:55If it's the Cleveland Cavaliers, the New York Knicks, the Golden
- 1:00:58State Warriors, wherever he decides to go or unless he
- 1:01:01decides to retire and and you know, tie up his, you know, his
- 1:01:04sneakers. The fact here is you look at the
- 1:01:08big picture, the Lakers are playoff team.
- 1:01:12And LeBron James knows that this team isn't good enough because
- 1:01:16he came out flat and he said it on his podcast.
- 1:01:19This team is not good enough to win.
- 1:01:21And how does that make Luka Doncic feel when Luka's been
- 1:01:26playing his ass off? He leads the league in points.
- 1:01:28He's doing everything he can when he's healthy to try to win
- 1:01:31as many games as he can. And your superstar player or
- 1:01:35your leader in LeBron James comes out on his podcast and on
- 1:01:41different platforms saying this team isn't good enough.
- 1:01:45It doesn't matter where we're seated.
- 1:01:47We're not winning anything this year.
- 1:01:48We just don't have enough depth. I would piss me off.
- 1:01:52And JJ Redick is in between this because he's Lebron's guy.
- 1:01:56And trust me, if LeBron is not showing up to practices or, or
- 1:02:01he is showing up to practices and he's running the practice
- 1:02:04and Luke is like, I'm the star. The practices should be run
- 1:02:08through me. That would piss me off.
- 1:02:10And, and no matter what you say, JJ Reddick is Lebron's guy.
- 1:02:13They did a podcast together before JJ had to step away from
- 1:02:17that because you can't have a coach and a player doing a
- 1:02:20podcast together when he's coaching the team that the
- 1:02:23player is playing on. That's why Steve Nash is doing
- 1:02:26the podcast with LeBron James right now and it's probably much
- 1:02:30better. I haven't checked it out.
- 1:02:33Reddick is not an NBA coach. You heard it on Chris Charles
- 1:02:37take. He's not he's not an NBA coach.
- 1:02:41He was a good player, wasn't a great player.
- 1:02:44I think he won. I think he'd been in the All
- 1:02:45Star game maybe once or twice and that was because he had
- 1:02:48great shooting years. He was more of a six man.
- 1:02:51That's what he was a Duke Blue Devil.
- 1:02:53I I rooted for JJ Reddick. I sincerely like him as a
- 1:02:57person, as a coach. I'm not taking any advice from
- 1:03:01him. I'm not.
- 1:03:03He's not a Lenny Wilkins. He's not even at Mike Woodson.
- 1:03:07He's not even those guys. And Lenny Wilkins is one of the
- 1:03:09greatest coaches of all time, one of the winningest coaches.
- 1:03:12And Mike Woodson was a good coach and still a good coach in
- 1:03:16college. I don't look at JJ Redick as a
- 1:03:19guy that I'm going to sit there and and listen to like a Monty
- 1:03:22Williams. Monty Williams is a very well
- 1:03:25respected player and coach since he's come to the NBA.
- 1:03:30JJ Redick's never coached there. He's never coached minor league
- 1:03:33basketball. He's never been in this position
- 1:03:35until LeBron James said, hey, you want to coach my team?
- 1:03:38Here you go. Here's the here's the sheets or
- 1:03:40here's the here's the keys to the franchise right now.
- 1:03:43Because every time LeBron James gives the keys to somebody, they
- 1:03:47flourish because LeBron James is at a high level and he makes
- 1:03:50everybody look good. But guess what?
- 1:03:52LeBron James is not at a high level right now.
- 1:03:55Luca is at the high level right now.
- 1:03:57And Luca is being disrespected by, I believe, JJ Redick.
- 1:04:01He doesn't like the way he's coaching his team.
- 1:04:03He doesn't like the way he uses him in the offense.
- 1:04:06No matter how much he's scoring in the game, it's not bringing
- 1:04:08wins. And Luca is all about winning.
- 1:04:11You could score as many points as you want.
- 1:04:12If you're not putting anything in the win circle or you are
- 1:04:16putting wins, but you're you're being told by your your
- 1:04:19superstar player or your leader that you're not good enough to
- 1:04:23go far in the playoffs because you don't have enough depth,
- 1:04:25then why play? Why play if LeBron James is
- 1:04:29coming out and throwing the organization and team under the
- 1:04:32bus? Hey, you know what?
- 1:04:32The team's not good enough. So what do we play for?
- 1:04:35OK, so you know what, LeBron? Why don't you sit out for the
- 1:04:37rest of the season and decide where you want to go and say
- 1:04:40that to a guy like Steph Curry? See what Steph Curry or Draymond
- 1:04:43Green will tell you. You get knocked the hell out.
- 1:04:46Or how about going to the Knicks and saying that to some of the
- 1:04:48Knick players. Tell that to OG and Anobi.
- 1:04:51Or say that to Mitchell Robinson.
- 1:04:53See what happens to you. It's not going to work that you
- 1:04:56want to be Joel Embiid there. Go play with Joel Embiid.
- 1:05:00I do you. I'm a superstar player.
- 1:05:02I do not want to hear that my season is being wasted because
- 1:05:05hey, I'm not good enough. And that puts lightning up my
- 1:05:08ass. If I'm Luka Dodgek right now,
- 1:05:11I'm trying to get into the playoffs as the highest seat I
- 1:05:13possibly can. And I'm going to shut LeBron
- 1:05:15James up because I'm going to take I'm going to take over
- 1:05:17because Dallas when they went to the Western Conference Finals,
- 1:05:20Dallas, when they went to the Finals, nobody expected them to
- 1:05:24come out of the West. Nobody, nobody.
- 1:05:28And for anybody to think that Luka Doncic isn't a good team
- 1:05:32player, go watch the videos, Go watch the practices when Lucas
- 1:05:37sitting when they're they have a drink break.
- 1:05:40So whatever the hell they're doing.
- 1:05:41I've seen some of the videos and he's sitting between the young
- 1:05:43guys and he's having conversations and telling them
- 1:05:45where they should be on the court so he can get them the
- 1:05:47ball. Do you see LeBron James doing
- 1:05:49that? I've heard stories about LeBron
- 1:05:51James yelling at players in at halves during quarters that
- 1:05:56you're in the wrong place, you got to play better or you're
- 1:05:58going to be sitting. You mean, have you ever heard
- 1:06:01Lucas say that? Have you ever heard that Lucas
- 1:06:03ever said that or thrown anybody?
- 1:06:05Him and him and Porzingis didn't get along.
- 1:06:07Him and that Porzingis, before Porzingis went to the Dallas
- 1:06:11Mavericks, We're very close, very good friends.
- 1:06:14And then when he went there, there was a problem going on
- 1:06:16because Porzingis wanted to be the guy and he was never going
- 1:06:19to be the guy. He should have stayed with the
- 1:06:20Knicks. And it didn't last over there,
- 1:06:22not because of Luca, because Luca didn't go out there and
- 1:06:25throw anybody under the bus. It was Porzingis, just like he
- 1:06:28wanted to own a piece of the Knicks when he was there.
- 1:06:30Him and his brother wanted to run the organization.
- 1:06:33How did that go? How far did that go?
- 1:06:35And then Porzingis tried to protect himself after that and
- 1:06:38then looked like a Jackass after that because he went overseas
- 1:06:42and jumped off a boat, I don't know, 50 feet in the air and
- 1:06:46hurt his knee and was out a significant amount of time.
- 1:06:49Do we all remember that? And it's just to me, I love that
- 1:06:54Luka Dodge cares. I love that he shows emotion on
- 1:06:59the basketball court. He doesn't go and say anything
- 1:07:02more than what he sees on a basketball court.
- 1:07:05And if you know your coach doesn't know what he's doing,
- 1:07:07you're going to call him out on it.
- 1:07:08And that's what he did, ladies and gentlemen, he called JJ
- 1:07:11Reddick out because JJ Reddick has absolutely no idea what he's
- 1:07:15doing in his in over his head. Yeah, Luca Doncic's been stuck.
- 1:07:18With a lot of these bigger egos throughout his career,
- 1:07:20Porzingis, Karl probably being the first one of that group, and
- 1:07:23then obviously Kyrie Irving after that and now LeBron James,
- 1:07:27all feel like they want to have this kind of control.
- 1:07:29And you're also dealing with also ownerships that want to
- 1:07:30feel that way too. Now, obviously Mark Cuban loves
- 1:07:33Luca Doncic, so he's been on a side, but obviously Mark Cubans
- 1:07:35been in some controversy too and the same kind of thing with the
- 1:07:37bus family before they eventually sold the team last
- 1:07:39year. Luca Dodge has been just kind of
- 1:07:41stuck where he hasn't really gotten his vibe across to the
- 1:07:44Lakers as full as he wanted did and but The Mavericks the same
- 1:07:47kind of thing and that was amidst him still making the
- 1:07:49finals. They were 5C, they don't see
- 1:07:52five seats probably besides Miami, haven't seen a lot of the
- 1:07:54teams under 4 that have made it to the NBA Finals.
- 1:07:56And Luka Doncic did that going through a very difficult Western
- 1:07:59Conference. They beat OKC, they beat, they
- 1:08:02beat Denver, beat other good teams.
- 1:08:04And now he's stuck on a case of an identity crisis where I, I
- 1:08:08think JJ Reddick will look like it.
- 1:08:10Look at like you'll be fired. And if LeBron goes somewhere
- 1:08:13else, unless Steve Kerr steps down, like you're not getting JJ
- 1:08:15Reddick to go along with you too, unless he comes in as an
- 1:08:17assistant because Cleveland's not firing Kenny Atkinson and
- 1:08:21the Knicks are. I'm not firing Mike Brown.
- 1:08:23So let's Golden State steps down.
- 1:08:25Like, good thing you're going to get that.
- 1:08:27But Luka Doncic is finally going to get that kind of grace with
- 1:08:29the new ownership that actually supports him.
- 1:08:31Hence why they LeBron got all pissy because oh, finally Doug
- 1:08:34Hership, that's supporting me. Don't you love?
- 1:08:36He makes that. He makes that voice.
- 1:08:40Is that how LeBron sound like Barney?
- 1:08:42Yeah. Isn't that how LeBron?
- 1:08:43Sounds like when he when he doesn't get his way though.
- 1:08:46Because that's the LJ for you. Well, the LJ is run.
- 1:08:49By one and one person. And it shouldn't be called the
- 1:08:51NBA anymore. It's the LJ.
- 1:08:52And when LeBron James to start support ways and retire, he's
- 1:08:56going to own a team because Adam Silver is going to make sure
- 1:08:58that one way or another, one of these teams are going to fall
- 1:09:00into his lap and he's going to run an organization because
- 1:09:03that's what LeBron wants to do. And what LeBron wants, he gets.
- 1:09:07The NBA always knows that who and what has changed and been
- 1:09:11the forefront of the change of this league.
- 1:09:14It's not Adam Silver, it's not executives, it's not other
- 1:09:17players. It's LeBron Joe as he's playing
- 1:09:20his banjo all the way home as the LJA.
- 1:09:25So that's all I'm going to say. Anyways.
- 1:09:27The NHL trade deadline is Friday at 3:00 PM.
- 1:09:31And while some big moves were made before the Olympic break,
- 1:09:36including Quin Use and Mr. Artemi Panarin, there already
- 1:09:42have been a few moves ahead of tomorrow's head deadline, with
- 1:09:46plenty more to come. Although after the Flames traded
- 1:09:50defenseman Mackenzie Wieger Wigar to the mammoth, Utah GM
- 1:09:55Bill Armstrong said the no trade and no movement clauses have
- 1:10:01made trade negotiations more difficult than ever.
- 1:10:05The Avalanche and Ping swapped defenseman as a long time
- 1:10:09Colorado defenseman Samuel Gerard and was swapped with
- 1:10:14Brett Kulak. Other than Western Conference,
- 1:10:17contenders like the Oilers and Wild and Golden Knights have
- 1:10:22also been very active at the trading trading deadline for
- 1:10:26multiple players. The Wild could still make
- 1:10:29another swing for a big veteran center, while Edmonton and Vegas
- 1:10:35could be in for a goaltender on the market.
- 1:10:39TS NS Pierre Lebrun Lebrun reports that the Canucks are
- 1:10:44open to the idea of trading Mr. Peterson, and the Hurricanes and
- 1:10:50Red Wings are expected to be the favorites to trade for him.
- 1:10:54TS NS Darren Dragger reports that the Blue are asking for a
- 1:10:59large prospect pool of forwards for Robert Thomas, with him
- 1:11:04being 26 years old and having 280 point seasons in a row
- 1:11:10before this year. The Hurricanes and Red Wings are
- 1:11:13expected to be on him too. Reports say that the Penguins
- 1:11:19could still be open on the idea of shopping Evgeny Malkin at the
- 1:11:26right price with Sidney Crosby out for another 4 weeks, which
- 1:11:30means he's not going anywhere and Malkin set to become a free
- 1:11:34agent after the season. Dragger also reports that the
- 1:11:37Panthers have already committed to being sellers at the trade
- 1:11:41that like wow and have even shopped Sergei Babaratsky, even
- 1:11:47if they have to take on some of his remaining contract.
- 1:11:51I, I will say this, I'm very surprised.
- 1:11:54Florida, who I thought could have 3 peated this year.
- 1:11:59I really did. I they started off really,
- 1:12:01really bad and they're getting up there in age.
- 1:12:04Some of their players are getting up there in age, so they
- 1:12:06got to get younger. Bob Rodsky is he's got to be
- 1:12:103738 years old. He's getting he's he's getting
- 1:12:13too old to play the position. He might be a good fit for
- 1:12:17Edmonton if they're trying to win a championship.
- 1:12:20This is a guy that's won back-to-back championships.
- 1:12:22But Brodsky going over there, Edmonton, they get their guy and
- 1:12:25maybe you see a guy like McDavid and and dry side will actually
- 1:12:29win a championship because they're too good not to.
- 1:12:31They're always there and they can never get over the hump
- 1:12:33because of goaltending. But everybody forgets what the
- 1:12:36Islanders have not done yet. And I think the Islanders are in
- 1:12:39on some Canuck players and Saint Louis Blue players.
- 1:12:42I would say that there's no names or there hasn't been any
- 1:12:46conversation that the Islanders are in a mix for any of these
- 1:12:50players. But I believe they're absolutely
- 1:12:52in on Peterson. I think they're, they're,
- 1:12:55they're on Robert Thomas and maybe some other Saint Louis
- 1:12:58Blue players. I, I think the islands can make
- 1:13:01a splash. They're playing good hockey
- 1:13:02right now. And I, I obvious and I, I look
- 1:13:05at here's another thing I keep saying, obviously because I'm,
- 1:13:08it's obvious where the islands are looking.
- 1:13:11Their team is playing such good hockey.
- 1:13:12So maybe the the executives there or the president or GM's
- 1:13:18over there, their GM over there is not willing to trade anybody
- 1:13:22because we've heard that there were some players on the trade
- 1:13:25block. Anders Lee is a free agent at
- 1:13:28the end of the year. Pajo is a free agent at the end
- 1:13:30of the year. So do they move one of these
- 1:13:32guys? Do they decide to send one of
- 1:13:34these guys off and and bring in a younger or more talented guy
- 1:13:38at the position? There are teams looking for
- 1:13:40face, face, face off guys. Pajo is a great face off guy and
- 1:13:45Anders Lee is a is a 30 goal scorer when he's on the top of
- 1:13:47his game. And I I do believe that the
- 1:13:50Islanders will extend him unless they decide to put Bo Horvat as
- 1:13:55their captain. And Bo Horvat, before he left
- 1:13:57the Canucks, he was the captain of the Canucks.
- 1:13:59So maybe that's their plan or maybe a Barzell or maybe making
- 1:14:03math young Matthew Shaffer an assistant captain on this team
- 1:14:06in the future, very near future because he's been such a great
- 1:14:10bright spot for the New York Islanders.
- 1:14:12But right, these are there's a lot of other players that have
- 1:14:15been talked about and spoken about over the last couple of
- 1:14:18weeks. There could be a lot of slam
- 1:14:20dunks. How about this Makar if if, if
- 1:14:23Colorado doesn't believe they can re sign him at the end of
- 1:14:27the season. I know it's crazy.
- 1:14:28This might be a crazy day, guys. Makar is probably the best
- 1:14:32defenseman in the league. You can argue that he is and
- 1:14:34he's been the most consistent. If they know that Macar is going
- 1:14:39to free agency because he's seeking a seventeen, $18 million
- 1:14:42contract, maybe 20 to kind of tie McDavid because I think
- 1:14:46Mcdavid's making 20 a year. Maybe they trade him.
- 1:14:52Think about it. Colorado could get a boatload of
- 1:14:54players for Cal Macar. You could get future
- 1:14:59consideration stars and, and guys top six centers or top six
- 1:15:04players, you know, 4 a guy like Cal Macar and they won't miss a
- 1:15:09beat. Now Cal Macar is to lose a
- 1:15:11player of that that stature. It's huge.
- 1:15:13But only Colorado, only Joe Sakic knows that he can't sign
- 1:15:18Cal Macar. He's the one that's inside.
- 1:15:20Source. I remember, remember Tavares,
- 1:15:23Tavares told the Islanders that he wants to be an Islander for
- 1:15:26life. Meanwhile, the Islanders decided
- 1:15:29not to move them. He screwed the Islanders because
- 1:15:32he didn't want the Islanders to get any prospects because he
- 1:15:34wanted to make sure that Toronto had a future.
- 1:15:36And he screwed the Islanders. Now, it didn't help Toronto
- 1:15:40because Toronto hasn't won anything.
- 1:15:42So. But just think, Cal Macar could
- 1:15:45tell Colorado that he's going to stay there and the Rangers could
- 1:15:49offer. I know the Rangers don't have
- 1:15:51the money, but I'm just saying the Rangers are one of these big
- 1:15:53known organizations that have money and that have a good team
- 1:15:56around them. All they're missing is 1
- 1:15:58superstar away from being a championship contender and Cal
- 1:16:01Mccarr could be that guy to fill in and be that player.
- 1:16:04So I mean, there could be a big swing of stars that could become
- 1:16:08available. What we what we are talking
- 1:16:11about? Why?
- 1:16:13And everybody thought Sidney Crosby was going to be traded
- 1:16:15this year, but now that he's out for four weeks, do they move him
- 1:16:18or does he want to be traded? I mean, here's a chance to win a
- 1:16:21championship. Could you imagine if he gets
- 1:16:23traded to Edmonton to play with McDavid and dry Sidle to try to
- 1:16:28win that, that that third championship, which he's
- 1:16:30missing? So Sid the kid, he, he's
- 1:16:34definitely going to finish the season off as strong as he
- 1:16:37possibly can. I believe that Crosby will play
- 1:16:40another two years at least. If a veg kids playing, why
- 1:16:42shouldn't Crosby play and play as much?
- 1:16:44As long as he stays away from the concussion protocol
- 1:16:47situations that he's been over the last couple of years, I
- 1:16:50think Sid the Kid could play another 2-3 years.
- 1:16:52So I will tell you guys this. When you look at all the players
- 1:16:57that are being talked about, I would say half of these guys are
- 1:17:00not moving anywhere. And players that we haven't
- 1:17:02spoken about that are not in the tabloids right now are the big
- 1:17:06names are the big names that might be traded more quicker and
- 1:17:09more persistent in the next 24 hours.
- 1:17:11That's why I think you're seeing a lot of these.
- 1:17:12Eastern Conference teams still be a little fishy with wanting
- 1:17:15to do all that. I think the reason the Red Wings
- 1:17:17are brought up is because they definitely know that they have
- 1:17:19the cap space. And while the Islanders and
- 1:17:22while the Islanders and Buffalo and other teams like that are
- 1:17:25kind of in the early cusps of their young core, like Detroit
- 1:17:28knows it's kind of a make or break with their young core.
- 1:17:31And they've missed the playoffs every year really since
- 1:17:33Iserman's come in there. I think they might have made the
- 1:17:35short year, but I think besides that, they haven't gotten over
- 1:17:38the hump yet. So they know that the guy like a
- 1:17:40Peterson or a Robert Thomas is going to make a difference where
- 1:17:43they need the offense to go along with Larkin and Lucas
- 1:17:45Raymond, guys like that. And the Islanders, I think maybe
- 1:17:48are we're going to be in on it. But you wonder if somebody like
- 1:17:51Darsh, like he was with Tampa, was going to be a little more
- 1:17:53patient with their prospects because they know how good their
- 1:17:55prospects can be. And they're going to not mess
- 1:17:58with what's working in a year where they're probably going to
- 1:18:00be second now in the metro if Crosby's going to be out for the
- 1:18:03next few weeks and they just get the playoff experience.
- 1:18:06And Malkin if he gets traded. Yeah, and Malkin gets traded and
- 1:18:09Crosby's out for the next couple of weeks.
- 1:18:12They automatically jump to. So they feel like, I think they.
- 1:18:14Feel like they don't have to like force their hand with
- 1:18:17anything big. Now, obviously there's going to
- 1:18:18be rumors with with other of the wingers too, but I don't think
- 1:18:21they're going to force their hand because Thomas can play
- 1:18:23center that that's what he's going to want to be paid like a
- 1:18:25center to. And and obviously Peterson's
- 1:18:27already has a big contract, A10 and a half, $1,000,000 contract.
- 1:18:29So that's what they're going to be able to take on.
- 1:18:31And the Hurricanes are the same kind of thing they're been.
- 1:18:34Where are they going to get their production finally on
- 1:18:36offense? And obviously the goaltending's
- 1:18:38been a problem for a while too. But Florida's not going to trade
- 1:18:40but Brofsky to the Hurricanes. But they know they're on this
- 1:18:43last year for every year, pretty much.
- 1:18:44So they've traded for Denzel over the years.
- 1:18:46They traded for Patch already. Like, where's this other winger
- 1:18:48going to come? Florida also has a ton of a.
- 1:18:51Ton of great gold tending prospects in the farm system.
- 1:18:54That's why I think Bob Brodsky, the only reason why Bob Brodsky
- 1:18:57is still there is because they've won.
- 1:18:59He's won back-to-back championships and he's he's been
- 1:19:01a big part of those championship teams.
- 1:19:03I think Edmonton should absolutely make a call to
- 1:19:06Florida. You're not going to have to give
- 1:19:07up much for Rob Brodsky. What are you going to give up?
- 1:19:09A third round draft pick? And again, the only reason they
- 1:19:11weren't. Going to do that either because
- 1:19:13they knew that his contract wasn't going to be tradable as
- 1:19:16sellers in the past and obviously now since they've won,
- 1:19:18it would be a competitive team. They're not going to do it for a
- 1:19:21lesser price either. So they're just going to sell
- 1:19:23off a lot of the veterans that they know they're not going to
- 1:19:26keep. So they they dealt one in
- 1:19:27Minnesota with Petrie. They were trying to, I think
- 1:19:30they were trying to shop some of their bottom 6 forwards.
- 1:19:32They were key to that Stanley Cup team and they know that the
- 1:19:36only reason they would do Babrovsky is just try to get
- 1:19:38that kind of value because they know how well they can develop
- 1:19:41their systems. And that's why a lot of these
- 1:19:42Western Conference teams are biting in on a lot of these
- 1:19:44veteran guys. The weakness of Edmonton.
- 1:19:46For years has been the goaltending.
- 1:19:48This is a team that goes to the Western Conference finals every
- 1:19:51year. They've been to the finals
- 1:19:52before. They have the best player in the
- 1:19:54world. He is the best player in the
- 1:19:57world. It's not even an arguable even
- 1:20:00an argument to say, oh, you know what?
- 1:20:02I'm going to argue that, well, this guy's better than him or
- 1:20:05that guy's. It's not even close.
- 1:20:07This guy is the best player in the world by a long shot.
- 1:20:10And then they probably have the second best player in the world
- 1:20:13or third best player on this in the world on this roster.
- 1:20:17In German dry Sidle, who is a sensational player, he's a
- 1:20:22sensational player. Fifty goal scorer, he's that
- 1:20:25kind of player just like McDavid.
- 1:20:26Every year these guys are going 100 points and they're not even
- 1:20:30playing on the same line. They only play on the power play
- 1:20:32together and they're every year and it it's not just them.
- 1:20:36They've got a great defense. They've got great players.
- 1:20:38They've got a great coach and Knobloch, a Ranger fans will
- 1:20:41probably wish that he's coaching.
- 1:20:42Yeah. You wonder how their
- 1:20:43prospective. Elements been hurt with that.
- 1:20:44Thank you, Chris. Thank you, Jerry.
- 1:20:46But I, I mean, they're missing the one piece that wins
- 1:20:50championships and that's goaltending.
- 1:20:52Why not go after the guy that's won back-to-back championships?
- 1:20:54A guy that's going to the Hall of Fame, a guy that's a leader,
- 1:20:58a guy that can absolutely take over the pipes and, and, and
- 1:21:00bring it to bring you to where you want to be.
- 1:21:03And that's being a contender because every year they're a
- 1:21:06contender. But everybody knows that
- 1:21:09depending on who they're playing, if they don't have the
- 1:21:12goaltending or they're goaltending, those that surprise
- 1:21:14people and and look at their goaltending last year, their
- 1:21:17goaltending. I mean, he was, it was a
- 1:21:19surprise how well he was playing in the playoffs.
- 1:21:21Who was their goalie? Stewart Skinner.
- 1:21:22Who was Skinner? Literally either a shutout or he
- 1:21:24would allow six goals in a game. He was.
- 1:21:26He's never. Consistent.
- 1:21:27Yeah, never consistent. And again, that's why they've
- 1:21:29tried to experiment. With Skinner's been there for a
- 1:21:31couple of years. Yeah, he.
- 1:21:32Was just traded this year. So the Penguins, you know, it
- 1:21:34didn't work out over there. And the other.
- 1:21:36Thing they always sometimes were missing was the fact that
- 1:21:39they're even strength versus the power play.
- 1:21:40They were relying on the power play a lot in certain playoff
- 1:21:43series as well, which which worked for them obviously
- 1:21:45against Dallas in the Western Conference finals.
- 1:21:46In other years getting to the the first time in the Western
- 1:21:50Conference to the Stanley Cup. But they didn't have the even
- 1:21:53strength guys. And this year one of their big
- 1:21:54issues has been their face offs. Even with Tri Sidal and McDavid,
- 1:21:57they've been really low. That's why they made a couple
- 1:21:59trades for centers already too, because Minnesota and Vegas,
- 1:22:02they both win face offs very well.
- 1:22:03Colorado, they've been looking for center as well.
- 1:22:05How about reaching out to the ologist?
- 1:22:07For Paggio, I mean, Paggio is a great face off guy.
- 1:22:10You're not going to have to give up much for him.
- 1:22:12What? What are you going to have to
- 1:22:13give up a fourth round draft pick, right?
- 1:22:14No, you're not going to have to give him much.
- 1:22:16Pajo is a good playoff player too and I think that's something
- 1:22:18that could be valuable. Colorado I heard was trying to
- 1:22:21go after Nasim Khadri again too so they don't get him.
- 1:22:23That could be another fall back option.
- 1:22:25Forget Pajo because Minnesota and Vegas both win face offs
- 1:22:28very well and those the other two teams cadre the guy that
- 1:22:32the. Islanders were going after in
- 1:22:33the offseason and couldn't seal the deal with him.
- 1:22:35Yeah, yeah, they had a lot of cap issues.
- 1:22:37At the time to have to deal with, but again he hasn't been
- 1:22:39the same players. Yeah, I was going to say.
- 1:22:42The Flames were not really the good system for him because that
- 1:22:44was a very old team, as it was with Bennett before they traded
- 1:22:48him. He was reaching.
- 1:22:48He took the most. Money with the Flames because
- 1:22:51there was no way because that was that was the year when they
- 1:22:53traded Matthew Kuchuk and they were trying to find somebody was
- 1:22:56going to give him not maybe not as much offensively, but just
- 1:22:59because because remember he cadre was getting I think that
- 1:23:03year he had like 30 something goals and everybody was like
- 1:23:07adding him and filling him in for Matthew Kuchuk.
- 1:23:09You got all those, all those pieces and yeah, Kadri, you're
- 1:23:12probably a better team with more depth.
- 1:23:14And honestly, Matthew could Chuck going to Florida, which I
- 1:23:17thought wasn't really a great trade, was a slam dunk.
- 1:23:19Florida went back-to-back championships with that deal.
- 1:23:21Yeah, that was something that Florida.
- 1:23:23Was too much of A finesse team and they needed obviously a
- 1:23:26bigger winger to go along with them.
- 1:23:27It's funny because Uyghur was one of the guys trading in that
- 1:23:29deal and I thought he was great in Florida and he was good with
- 1:23:32the Flames, but not to the level that they end up the same with
- 1:23:34it. And then the rest of their team
- 1:23:35just got old all at once. So they kind of got stuck in
- 1:23:38mediocrity, a lot like the Islanders at the end of Snows
- 1:23:41tenure where sometimes they made the playoffs but they usually
- 1:23:43didn't win playoff series because of that.
- 1:23:44They had so many bad contracts. That's the word where they think
- 1:23:47about how many guys. Are still on this team that are
- 1:23:49from Garth Snow yeah think about it Anders Lee I'll just say
- 1:23:53Barzel if I look at the roster right now and I pointed out the
- 1:23:57Mayfield I I would go poolock all these guys are still on this
- 1:24:02roster from Garth snow so all the Islander fans that couldn't
- 1:24:06stand Garth snow he wasn't good at bringing in free agents
- 1:24:08horrible so was Lou Lou was so bad at that but he brought in Bo
- 1:24:12Horvat which was a slam dunk and you're seeing what Bo Horvat has
- 1:24:16brought to the table especially in the last three years and this
- 1:24:20year but Errol something about that I.
- 1:24:23Wanted to bring up quickly about Bull Horror that's specifically
- 1:24:26played for the Canucks and there's been a lot of stuff and
- 1:24:30I didn't really want to save it for the concrete jungle carousel
- 1:24:33later since we're talking about it right now.
- 1:24:36The Canucks and the Islanders, apparently the scouts for both
- 1:24:40teams have just been all over each other's, been reported by
- 1:24:44all the beat writers. There's some big type of trade,
- 1:24:46Stephen Rosner. I know.
- 1:24:48He's the one, the big mouth, Stephen Rosner.
- 1:24:51That's why I just said hockey do.
- 1:24:52I didn't want to bet you this day.
- 1:24:54No, it's not just. Him I have like.
- 1:24:56Four different guys reporting and there's a couple of
- 1:25:00different theories. The the boring theory is the guy
- 1:25:03like Garland, it'll be like a like a second or three.
- 1:25:06I heard they're lesser on him. Now.
- 1:25:07Though I keep. Hearing it's the guy that they
- 1:25:11wanted in the offseason, Brock Besser, and couldn't get and
- 1:25:16they had the cap issues. He went for about 7 point and
- 1:25:19change million per season. I don't think the Islanders
- 1:25:22could get over 6 1/2 in the offseason, and now they're going
- 1:25:26to try to get him again that and pair him with Bo Horvath and,
- 1:25:30you know, just get that winger replacement for Palmieri.
- 1:25:34Well, we'll see. And.
- 1:25:35Palmieri is signed A2 year deal and he'll be back next year.
- 1:25:38We'll see if he comes back or he decides to retire because that
- 1:25:42was a bad injury tearing your ACL as a hockey player, as a,
- 1:25:44you know, a little later in your career as you're not the same
- 1:25:47player. But he he wasn't built for
- 1:25:50speed. Palmieri is he has great hands
- 1:25:52and that's his game. But I you also a power play
- 1:25:56specialist. But I I will say this, Vancouver
- 1:25:59makes a lot of sense. It makes a lot of sense.
- 1:26:01You put him with Bo Horvat, Besner with with Bo Horvat and
- 1:26:06Borzell that you know, then you have a top end line and then
- 1:26:11next year you have all these players that you have in your
- 1:26:13farm system. A lot of lot of guys that are
- 1:26:16one of them was playing college hockey this year who some people
- 1:26:19think after the college hockey season is over, fully over, he's
- 1:26:22going to the AHL and he's going to get his chance.
- 1:26:24And what's his name again? I am Eiserman.
- 1:26:28Eiserman, who a lot of people like and think has an NHL type
- 1:26:34of game and he's a goal scorer. Don't be surprised if he makes
- 1:26:37this team at the end of the season and and goes for the ride
- 1:26:41for the Islanders playoff run if the Islanders are a second seed
- 1:26:44or third seed or if they make the playoffs.
- 1:26:45So I think there's a lot of things to be excited about with
- 1:26:49the Islanders and I I just don't want them to give up a first
- 1:26:53round draft pick, which is what they would have had to do for.
- 1:26:55Thomas or Patterson probably. And I think I think the Canucks
- 1:26:59were even asking them about Eiserman.
- 1:27:00So so I think they were keeping him off limits at that point.
- 1:27:03And I think anyway of the way I would not trade Eiserman.
- 1:27:06First of all, he was the leading scorer for Team USA Junior
- 1:27:09hockey. This year he was the leading
- 1:27:11scorer and he helped Team USA really play as well as they did
- 1:27:16in the junior and always does every single year.
- 1:27:18I remember John Van Beesburg, he was telling me about this kid
- 1:27:21before the Islanders drafted him and he fell to the Islanders.
- 1:27:24Think he fell in the 20s and this guy was supposed to be a
- 1:27:28top ten pick. He fell because there was some
- 1:27:30questions about his defense. But this guy's got great hands
- 1:27:33and he played for one of the Boston schools.
- 1:27:34I think it was Boston College or Boston, I think it was Boston
- 1:27:37College, Boston you or Boston College.
- 1:27:39But he's got an ability to put the puck in and the Islanders
- 1:27:43have been craving for a player like that.
- 1:27:45Barzell has all the skills in the world that I don't know if
- 1:27:47he has the the goal scoring hands that everybody thought he
- 1:27:50was going to be. And, and again, Barzell's making
- 1:27:54a lot of money, but Horvitz making a lot of money and
- 1:27:56they're going to have to move pieces away.
- 1:27:57And Anders Lee, I don't know if if I were the Islanders do I re
- 1:28:01sign Anders Lee or do I? I move on from Anders Lee next
- 1:28:05year and and make Bo Horvat my captain.
- 1:28:07I think that makes a lot of sense.
- 1:28:08Anders Lee has value. On a lesser contract just not
- 1:28:11seven and a half million a year like he's getting is he going to
- 1:28:13take less yeah I I yeah that's that's what the commitment to
- 1:28:16the organization will have to come from him because he he's
- 1:28:19probably not going to get more than three maybe three and a
- 1:28:21half million somewhere else anyway.
- 1:28:22So if he does he commit to this young core, is he a good enough
- 1:28:26like chemistry with the as an assistant captain?
- 1:28:28Because I think he is a good leader.
- 1:28:29It's just about him getting that much money at the time with at
- 1:28:32the end of Garth Snow senior too.
- 1:28:34Like I said, just bad with free agents and just giving a
- 1:28:35contract if he signs with the Islanders.
- 1:28:37He'll be the captain, yeah. They're not going to take the
- 1:28:40sea away from him if he's a captain already.
- 1:28:42He's been a good captain. But I think what the Islanders
- 1:28:46are trying to transition in is Bo Horvat.
- 1:28:48Bo Horvat was the captain of the Canucks.
- 1:28:50That was when the Canucks were at a top level.
- 1:28:52He they were a good team and well, the year that they traded
- 1:28:56him, they weren't, they were good at the beginning of
- 1:28:58Horvath. 'S tenure not as much.
- 1:28:59In the end they had that good. In the short year they were
- 1:29:01pretty good though and I I think Bo is.
- 1:29:04He's ready to take over for this team and, and be the face of
- 1:29:07this organization. And he, he said it I, he was on
- 1:29:10a podcast recently and they asked him, could you have made
- 1:29:13more money going somewhere else? And he says, actually, I
- 1:29:15probably would have made an extra million and a half if I
- 1:29:18went somewhere else. But I, I love the island and,
- 1:29:21and as soon as I got traded to the Islanders and I realized
- 1:29:24that I, I love the, the area, he said I wanted to raise my family
- 1:29:28here. And he says he loves Long
- 1:29:29Island, he loves New York and he, he, he doesn't wish to play
- 1:29:32anywhere else but here. So it says a lot about who
- 1:29:35Bohorvad is. And, and he could have went to,
- 1:29:38you know, he could have take his pick.
- 1:29:39He could have went to the Rangers Panera.
- 1:29:41I wanted him with the Rangers Panera.
- 1:29:43Wanted to be. Wanted to be a Ranger.
- 1:29:45The Islanders had a chance to get Panera, and he was.
- 1:29:48He was one of the guys that the Islanders were going after.
- 1:29:51He had no interest to playing for the Islanders.
- 1:29:53No interest. So that's what I was saying at
- 1:29:55the time too, because I remember.
- 1:29:56The Islanders were in the market for a lot of wingers at the time
- 1:29:59and I was saying, oh, the Rangers needed a center at the
- 1:30:01time and then horseback ends up getting traded to the Islanders.
