  football. We got to go to a rivalry game.

  The only downside being that it was a not neutral site, neutral

  site rivalry game in the in the clean old fashioned hate there

  the grid, the gridiron, excuse me, the Invesco QQQ Atlanta
• 0:35
  Gridiron Classic. You know, some might say that

  was the greatest game in the history of the Invesco QQQ
• 0:43
  Atlanta Gridiron Classic in the in the long and storied history
• 0:47
  of that game. In many ways it was the best
• 0:49
  game of the history and also the worst game.
• 0:52
  Just as like it was a very low scoring Invesco QQQ classic, but
• 0:56
  it was also the highest scoring one in history.

  So in the same way so. Some might say it was the lowest
• 1:03
  scoring game in the history of the Invesco QQQ Atlanta Gridiron

  Classic. You know, small tangent because

  this is our podcast and we can Daniel, we learnt, we learned a

  valuable lesson at the game on Friday, which is at a football

  game, you're not allowed to stand according to the fans

  behind us, you know, opening. The nice young ladies behind us

  who are not wearing team gear for either Georgia or Georgia
• 1:29
  Tech. But they were wearing team gear.

  They were running random team gear and they were cheering for
• 1:36
  I guess the equivalent of the Napa cap shuffle.

  Whatever they do for. Do they got?

  Wild Tech on games that was their most excited moment was
• 1:45
  when they saw a a very special fan win.

  I forgot about that. I don't know, like a gift card
• 1:51
  to Kroger or something. I don't know what it was.

  Yeah, that was their most the loudest.

  They were the whole game other than asking us if we were going
• 1:58
  to be standing the whole game. So shout out to those young

  ladies and their moral superiority, how we appreciate

  them, you know, going the extra mile.

  I and to be just to be completely clear, there were no

  kids behind us. There were no elderly people who

  could not stand. Of course we were in a stadium

  full of people and opening. Others were standing while we

  were standing. It was not a.

  What if, if you know, if if you've been to a football, it's

  just I texted the people. I was like, I'm not crazy,

  right? I mean, like you and I have

  grown up Georgia fans. We were you know, I'm I'm in

  Sanford Stadium a few weeks ago and I kid you not only time we

  sat down with TV timeouts like the whole stadium, the whole
• 2:40
  stadium. It's like the center goes over
• 2:43
  the ball and everybody just in unison stands because it's.

  Georgia's playing Charlotte. There's probably a bunch of
• 2:51
  kids. You're probably sitting down a
• 2:52
  decent amount. If you're playing an SEC
• 2:55
  football game, you're playing a big rivalry.
• 2:58
  I mean, you're standing the. Opening series of the game,
• 3:01
  They're pinned inside the 10. I'm standing.

  I'm I'm. We only get 12 of these
• 3:05
  Saturdays. Daniel and I got to be present
• 3:07
  for one of them. I'm standing.

  Do we? We've been looking forward to

  this for months, months of anyway, just it's our podcast.

  Small tangent. Apparently you're not allowed to

  stay. You know, our good friend of the

  show, David Cobb was like, Hey, there's one of the one of the

  downsides of playing this game in an NFL stadium is you get

  those kind of fans. And that's probably true.

  You know, you're in a, you know, actually not that comfy of a

  seat back seat. But maybe that's not, maybe
• 3:33
  that's not an issue with some bleachers for everybody's
• 3:35
  wanting to stand. That's true.

  Yeah. Well, you know, the wine and
• 3:38
  cheese crowd and, you know, an NFL game, if you went to a
• 3:41
  Falcons game, it is appropriate to sit the whole game, maybe
• 3:45
  occasionally on a big third station.

  Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not much to stand and cheer for.

  And if you're not sitting in the swag surf section, which is the
• 3:57
  corner of the end zone, then you're probably not standing
• 3:59
  much of the game. So if maybe they were only used

  to that venue, I guess that's, you know, whatever, maybe, but

  who knows, whatever, whatever. Being on we we had a great time.

  We got to see a rivalry get we got to watch live college
• 4:13
  football and for that I will not complain.

  coaching carousel. We've just about wrapped it up

  minus a big one, which we'll talk about the the latest

  edition of the College Football Playoff rankings heading in the

  conference championship weekend. Three games, we're watching 3U

  matchups. We've got our eye on 4 picks
• 4:35
  against the spread for a powerful conference championship
• 4:37
  games and then some, some playoff prediction, which is
• 4:41
  getting easier. I think we've got, I think one,
• 4:44
  maybe 2 spots to talk about that that could become available.

  Let's start though, Daniel coaching carousel.

  I think the dust has all but settled on Lane Kiffin to LSU.

  Just I mean, on top of it being rivalry weekend, what a great

  like evening and morning to be just a college football fan on
• 5:05
  Twitter because in on message boards like because the the
• 5:10
  rumors and the, you know, the writing was kind of on the wall
• 5:14
  of Lane wants to leave. Obviously he's already said it's
• 5:17
  down to Ole Miss and LSU. He's probably going to LSU.
• 5:20
  He's trying to work out if he's going to coach the playoff.
• 5:23
  I really under it's it's one of these things where I really do
• 5:25
  feel like I understand all sides and I can kind of be like, yeah,
• 5:28
  I get why you're mad. Yeah, I get why you're upset.

  Yes. I do think the system's the
• 5:33
  problem. Yes.

  I think all parties handle the better.

  Like I I feel like I really do get all sides and it's just kind

  of like it is what it is, you know, sucks the players, sucks

  the fans sucks for Elaine. You know, it kind of sucks for

  everybody. But what an entertaining weekend

  we've got. I mean, Lane to LSU almost hires

  Pete Golding very quickly. I mean, let's just start there.

  I mean, Lane Kiff and LSU, you and I both targeted him as what
• 5:55
  should be LS us #1 target they get him.
• 5:58
  He and his press conference called LSU the best job in
• 6:01
  college football. He said, you know, he kept
• 6:03
  mentioned it. He talked to mentors, including
• 6:05
  Pete Carroll and Nick Saban. Then he made some comments
• 6:08
  about, you know, I talked to some people and they called it
• 6:11
  the best job in college football.
• 6:12
  And I'm like, is that the same? You know, is that Nick Saban
• 6:15
  who's saying that? You know, like he didn't say
• 6:17
  that, but kind of implied like, hey, Saban called this the best
• 6:20
  job in the sport. It it, it is crazy on the
• 6:25
  surface to say you're you're leaving a team that went 11:00
• 6:28
  and 1:00 and it's in the College World Playoff to build another
• 6:31
  team to do the same. But I mean, you and I have
• 6:33
  called LSU easily a top three job in the sport.
• 6:37
  We get it. And she got their guy.
• 6:39
  And then all miss very quickly to retain Pete Goulding.
• 6:41
  I think that's important for continuity, especially going
• 6:44
  into the playoff run because the season's not over, which is
• 6:47
  crazy. I mean, they still have a
• 6:50
  national championship to play for this year.
• 6:53
  So they retain Golding not even on an interim basis.
• 6:55
  They make him a full time head coach, which I think is about as
• 6:58
  good of a higher as they could have made.

  And they do it as fast as they did it.

  You know, I'll steal the time for Nellie.

  I think it's a great hire. I have no idea if it'll work

  out. That's kind of how I feel about

  them, them getting Pete Golding, But I mean, Daniel, this whole

  saga, your thoughts? Yeah, I they, I mean, you know,

  retweet everything you just said.

  No, can't Lane Kiffin with, you know, he was he was my number 2.

  I had Saban is number one for LSU.

  Of course, realistically, Lane was the number one option.

  He was number one choice. I think it's a no brainer.

  Like, you know, for Lane, it's like he he has to go to LSU.

  That job's not going to keep opening up.

  And, you know, it's one of these where it's time to go.

  Now he just had to make a decision like, do I want to stay

  and be Ole Miss's greatest coach ever and just stay here and, you

  know, win one if I win one or do I want to give myself the best

  chance to do it? Now, this could be a family too

  close to the sun kind of a thing because your lifespan at LSU

  will not last as long as it would at Ole Miss.

  At Ole Miss, you're going to have a lot of slack.

  LSU, you have a couple of mediocre seasons, you're going
• 8:11
  to be gone. I had a friend who is a
• 8:14
  Tennessee fan talking about this.

  Of course, he's get personally attached because of Lane Kiffin
• 8:19
  and everything. And he just posed the question.

  He said, what do you think would have happened had Lane just
• 8:24
  stayed at Tennessee? And my answer was really quick.

  I said, I mean, he would have coached for a few more years and
• 8:29
  he would have gotten fired at Tennessee.

  It's not about, you know it, Tennessee had a very high, you
• 8:36
  know, you know, before they went all the way into the dumps.

  They're coming off of Fulmer and everything like that.

  You know, these jobs that have the national championship
• 8:44
  capability baked in. You've got a short leash.
• 8:48
  That's why the leash is longer at Ole Miss.

  They were just happy to make it so, you know, this is not a shot
• 8:53
  at Ole Miss. I think he possibly could have
• 8:55
  gotten them to a place to do it. It's just going to be so much
• 8:59
  easier to keep it, to acquire and retain talent because LSU is
• 9:05
  about loyalty as far as the players are concerned.

  That whole state you get, you know, everybody in the state is
• 9:10
  moving in the same direction, even though the the governor
• 9:14
  said something about incentives and the contract is mostly
• 9:16
  guaranteed. But all that being said, I agree
• 9:19
  with you with Ole Miss to act as quickly as you did and
• 9:22
  decisively as you did with Pete Goulding.

  I think that's a the best of bad situation.

  You're going to maybe keep most of the defensive staff.

  Did you have the best defense in the country?

  No Is Pete Golding, you know, someone that you're going to,

  you know, probably get to brag about?

  Not necessarily, But he knows what's going on.

  He knows the current operation and he knows the recruits that

  were already, you know, on the board.

  He was in all those meetings. His knowledge alone will help

  the transition for whatever they do, right.

  I do like that, you know, Lane initially made that famous.

  You know, hey, if you're not on the plane with me to LSU, you

  know, you're not on the team. And Charlie Weis junior went on
• 10:06
  the plane because he wants to be part of that LSU team with Lane.

  But he has since been, you know, approved by Lane and Ole Miss to
• 10:14
  come back and coach the offense. Thank goodness, because I didn't

  want to see, you know, a coordinator less offense, you
• 10:21
  know, trying to do something in the in the playoffs.

  So I think best of bad situation could have been handled better.

  I think if you already didn't like Lane Kiffin, this was like
• 10:30
  you being able to jump on the table and scream.

  He's still the worst. If you actually like Lane
• 10:35
  Kiffin, I think that you probably are like, oh, you know,
• 10:38
  I get both sides. Me and you personally probably
• 10:40
  both like Lane Kiffin. If I'm an Ole Miss fan, I'm

  probably furious. I get a Tennessee fans are
• 10:46
  probably still hurt. So, you know, they they probably
• 10:49
  say their piece. LSU fans are probably pumped.

  So, you know, it's the SEC. It just means more.

  So this is people also don't think about Ole Miss and LSU
• 10:57
  being rivals. But this is also a huge rivalry.

  So I think there's a lot of hurt in that as well.

  It wasn't just leaving for, you know, another big job.

  It was leaving for one of your longest standing, you know,

  traditional rivals. Yeah, now I get all parties.

  I love Twitter for a lot of reasons, but them being able to

  And he's just, he's just posted up at the Ole Miss FA

  facilities. You knew that that meeting

  wasn't going to happen expeditiously.

  They wanted this, you know, they're going to negotiate

  throughout the day. They were going to see if

  they're even playing in the SEC Championship.

  I think that's part of it, having more time.

  Part of me thinks they would have let him coach the SEC

  Championship, but not the playoff just because of timing.

  So I don't know if there's a lot, there's a lot to it.

  And signing days literally today while we're recording.

  So there's a lot of things to to consider.

  What you don't want to be is without a coach on signing day,

  which we'll get to some teams that or maybe a one team that

  has managed to to make that happen.

  I want to, yeah, I want to go to a school that's not hired a head

  coach because some breaking news here, Daniel, And this is on

  three sports and not No 3 sports.

  I did verify I said the funny tweet in the group chat earlier

  that it got me. At Pete Nokos.

  Top level Penn State donors are pushing for athletic director
• 12:28
  Pat Craft to promote interim head coach Terry Smith.

  Pete Nakos reports. OK, well the players have

  famously been calling for that, but the players tend to always
• 12:39
  ask for the interim to be hired because players easily
• 12:42
  influenced. But yeah, a lot of players
• 12:45
  really like him. And that's why, look, he can, he

  could be promoted to work out great.

  He can get promoted and be horrible.

  This is why players don't make these decisions.

  Yeah. It it's to me that's you're

  hopefully hiring a head coach for longer than three years.

  So the current rosters buy in whom could transfer tomorrow if

  they want to the entire roster. Their opinion means very little,

  very little to me, unless, again, it's unless you're in an

  Ole Miss situation where you have a championship to play for

  right now. That made a lot of sense, right?

  I mean, it's hard not to talk about this with him, with Terry

  Smith. He has made his love for and,

  you know, admiration for Joe Paterno very publicly known.

  I don't know what role that plays in this process with the
• 13:30
  legacy of Joe Paterno and everything that went on with Joe
• 13:33
  Paterno. You know, won't get into all
• 13:36
  that. But that's that is part of this
• 13:38
  that I think would effect is it will have an effect on his

  candidacy either way. But man, Penn State, I mean, I,

  I wrote down a list of like the coaching hires so far.

  I didn't even include like North Texas has hired their
• 13:49
  replacement. You know, Florida, Auburn,
• 13:51
  Arkansas, Oklahoma State, USF, Kansas State have all hired a

  head coach in Penn State. Seeing sitting here, they swung

  and missed on it sounds like. I mean, Matt Rule, Kurt

  Zignetti, Clark Lee, Eli Drinkwitz, there's a lot of
• 14:06
  sitting head coaches that have signed extensions and now
• 14:11
  they're sitting here. I mean, today, who signed an
• 14:14
  extension today? This just happened.

  It wasn't Brent Key. Sorry.

  Jeff Brom signed an extension. He's off the board.

  So I mean, again, we said it when it happened of is this

  because it turns out there's not a lot of Mark Rick's out there

  and there's not a lot of James Franklin's out there.

  And one and get 10 games a year is very impressive.

  I get that you want to win a national championship if you're

  Penn State and that this team came up short.

  I understand if you're Penn State in an add a year you can't

  use you can't lose to winless UCL.

  I understand all of that. But I think they have, you know,

  found out to use a meme that it's hard to find a really good

  head coach. And look, when James Franklin's

  got a top 22 signing class at Virginia Tech today after being

  on the job for like 9 days, a lot of Penn State flips in there

  too. He just.

  Flipped 12 players. And he has, he has no staff.

  He was saying in an interview people were like, coach, who's
• 15:16
  going to be my OC? He's like, I don't know who's my
• 15:18
  Titans coach? I don't know.

  You just got to trust me. And they're like, OK, sign me
• 15:22
  up. Penn State, I think has one
• 15:23
  commit, one person signed so far.

  Their class is outside the top 100.

  This is a disaster at Penn State.

  And I'm not saying Penn State is not one of the top 20 best jobs

  in college football. How they have handled the
• 15:35
  situation is very much not how a job that's in the top Penn State

  would say they're a top ten job in the sport that expects to
• 15:41
  compete for national titles. They've not handled this job
• 15:43
  search that way. And a lot of good coaches have
• 15:46
  said no. So, yeah, I'm very curious what
• 15:49
  Penn State does moving forward because I think people forget,
• 15:52
  and it's easy to forget. It's been a long time that James
• 15:55
  Franklin took them from the basement to winning 10 games a
• 15:58
  year as the state. He raised the floor of that.

  He's a floor raiser. He's a winner.

  And I think we can see how quickly without that, how a lot
• 16:07
  of these jobs can quickly fall apart without the right person
• 16:10
  at the helm. Yeah, 100% agree.

  That I think that I think coupled with the magnitude of

  today, seeing what seeing what James Franklin's currently doing
• 16:23
  at Virginia Tech, seeing what Penn State is not doing, I think

  makes me admire what Ole Miss did so quickly.

  And that as soon as it happened, I was looking for the word

  interim when they said, oh, hey, Pete Goulding's the guy.

  I was like, oh, OK, obviously he's like the only coordinator

  left on staff because they're taking the other guy.

  Of course he's the interim. And I kept looking for the word

  interim. And I was like, oh, no, it's

  it's permanent head coach. And my first initial thought

  was, huh, they didn't want to search.

  And then immediately I thought, no, look at the other ones that
• 16:59
  are going through searches you've had.

  On that same day, 5 coaches officially announced in the SEC.

  So what what are you doing? You want to have your guy and

  you want to be able to start building towards whatever that
• 17:10
  next that next level is kind of go along with with that.

  I mean, just, you know, highlights today we find out
• 17:17
  about Colin Klein that was made, you know, made known immediately
• 17:22
  as soon as they said that Chris Kleinman was retiring.

  The Klein obvious next choice is an alum, you know, big time

  offensive coordinator was coordinator.

  Obviously they're not long ago quarterback previously Brian
• 17:35
  Hartline, I think was probably the most shocking because I

  think Penn State fans probably thought that Hartline may have
• 17:42
  been in their back pocket. They were trying to get a big
• 17:44
  head coach 1st and then he was going to be their coordinator
• 17:47
  that they chose. And Hartline goes down to USF,
• 17:51
  which I think like you, you had mentioned, we talked about this
• 17:54
  previously, but hey, home run as far As for him to be able to get
• 17:57
  go to a place that he can build and turn around because you see
• 18:01
  Alex Golish go and get Auburn already.

  Brian Hartline, he already recruits the state of Florida,
• 18:07
  you know, phenomenally. And so he's he's going to do big
• 18:11
  things there. I think kind of carry on what
• 18:14
  that tradition has already become at South Florida.

  So it is a little funny, Arkansas hiring Silverfield
• 18:20
  after losing to Memphis this year.

  And then Memphis kind of not so quietly talking about trying to

  get rid of him or potentially buy him out to just fire him.

  So they kind of did. Memphis did them a solid.

  We'll see. We'll see how all this plays

  out. Who's going to be right at the

  end of it all. A silver field could end up

  being the right guy. Memphis has, you know, had

  From what it sounds like, Auburn for weeks thought Sumrall was a

  To Sumrall and got him locked down.

  And I'm like, Daniel, did Florida just make a no nonsense

  mature hire? Because even I said on this

  Florida. But I don't think that people

  who care about winning the press conference are going to go get
