- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and I'm here with Luna. How are you doing today? Luna: I'm doing great, Lucas! And you know what? I'm actually craving some fried rice. Remember when we learned how to order nasi goreng a couple episodes ago? Lucas: Oh, totally. That was episode 122 — buying fried rice in Malay. And then we practiced it in episode 123. But you know what practice does — it makes perfect. So today, we're going to practice again! Luna: Perfect! I need a refresher. And hey, before we dive in, I just want to say — Fexingo has been so helpful for my Malay progress, and I love that there are no ads interrupting the lessons. Lucas: Absolutely. We deliberately keep this show ad-free. If you find it useful and want to support that choice, you can do so at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. It really helps us keep going. Luna: Yeah, it's a great way to give back if you're able. Alright, let's get back to practicing — I'm hungry just thinking about it! Lucas: So, today we'll practice ordering nasi goreng at a hawker stall. Our first phrase: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng.' That means 'I want fried rice.' Say it with me, Luna. Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng. Lucas: There you go. Say it again slowly: Sa-ya ma-hu na-si go-reng. Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng. Lucas: Perfect. Now, if the seller asks you what type, they might say: 'Nasi goreng ayam atau nasi goreng seafood?' — chicken fried rice or seafood fried rice? Luna: Nasi goreng ayam atau nasi goreng seafood? Lucas: Yeah, you got it. So if you want chicken, reply: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Try it. Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Lucas: Nice. And you can ask if they have egg: 'Ada telur?' — 'Is there egg?' Say it. Luna: Ada telur? Lucas: Yep. And if you want chili sauce: 'Boleh minta sos cili?' — 'Can I have chili sauce?' Luna: Boleh minta sos cili? Lucas: Exactly. Finally, ask the price: 'Berapa harga satu pinggan?' — 'How much for one plate?' Luna: Berapa harga satu pinggan? Lucas: Let's put it all together. Imagine you're at a stall. The seller says 'Mau apa?' — 'What do you want?' You say: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Then you ask: 'Ada telur?' They say 'Ada.' You ask: 'Boleh minta sos cili?' They give it. Then: 'Berapa harga satu pinggan?' They say 'Lima ringgit.' Done! Luna: Okay, let me try that whole exchange. 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Ada telur? Boleh minta sos cili? Berapa harga satu pinggan?' Lucas: That was perfect! You sounded just like a local. Now, one more time, with feeling: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.' Luna: Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam. Lucas: Great. So today we practiced: 'Saya mahu nasi goreng.', 'Nasi goreng ayam atau nasi goreng seafood?', 'Saya mahu nasi goreng ayam.', 'Ada telur?', 'Boleh minta sos cili?', and 'Berapa harga satu pinggan?' Luna: I feel so much more confident now! Next time I'm at a hawker, I'm ordering in Malay for sure. Lucas: That's the spirit. Practice these phrases between now and our next episode, and you'll be a pro. Thanks for listening to Learn Malay with Fexingo! We'll catch you next time. Luna: Bye bye! Selamat tinggal!
