- 0:07The Chicago Cubs faced the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field for a Saturday afternoon game on July 20, 1957.
- 0:15The Cubs were in the cellar of the National League with a 28 and 55 record entering this game.
- 0:20They were managed by Bob Sheffing who replaced Dan Hack during the offseason.
- 0:24The Dodgers were managed by Walt Alston and were in what would be their final year in Brooklyn and playing exceptionally well in 1957.
- 0:31They entered this game with a 49 and 37 record but were along with four other teams all within three games at first place.
- 0:37This audio recording is from the Brooklyn Radio broadcast featuring an outers Vince Cully, Al Helfer and Jerry Doggett.
- 1:08Hi everyone, this is Jerry Doggett with Vince Cully and Al Helfer and here we are at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn about to bring you the Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs.
- 1:17Today's game like all the Dodger games this season will be brought to you by Lucky Strike, the best-tasting cigarette you ever smoke.
- 1:25It's made by the American Tobacco Company and Tobacco is our middle name.
- 1:30And the F&M Shaper Brilliant Company of Brooklyn, Brewers of Shaper Beer, America's oldest Lager Beer.
- 1:37We'll give you the rundown on today's line-ups in just a moment.
- 1:41Down at home plates are going over the ground rules, Captain TV Reads and Bob Sheffing and the umpires have been talking things over and in a couple of minutes they'll be battling it out on the diamond.
- 1:50Yes, the game's gonna start soon and while you're anticipating that pleasure, how about realizing the here and now enjoyment of a genuine cigarette.
- 1:59In other words, light up a Lucky.
- 2:01A cigarette that's everything it should be. It's all cigarettes, all spined tobacco.
- 2:06Tobacco that's toasted to taste even better. Cleaner, fresher, smoother.
- 2:12So dig out those Lucky. You've got a fresh back handy, haven't you?
- 2:15And light up the best-tasting cigarette you ever smoke. Lucky Strike.
- 2:20Well, this afternoon it's game three of the series between the Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs.
- 2:25The Dodgers won a double header from Chicago last night by scores of six to three in pinning and five to three in the night gap.
- 2:32For today's game, Don Drysdale goes to the mound with a seven and six record and he's beaten Chicago twice this year.
- 2:39He pitched two complete game victories against the Cubs, winning seven to two at Edwardsfield and four to nothing at Jersey City.
- 2:46Our fourth will be Dave Hillman who has made Tim start during his Major League career and has no complete game.
- 2:53He has number one as the starter. One win and six losses on the air.
- 2:59So it'll be Hillman going against Drysdale and we'll give you the starting line-up in just a moment.
- 3:04Here is our ninth in a row.
- 3:34Here is our ninth in a row.
- 4:04Here is our ninth in a row.
- 4:24Now here's a rundown on the batting orders for today's game.
- 4:27Lady R for Chicago playing center field will be Bob Will. The first baseman will be Bob Seuss at shortstop Ernie Banks in right field Walt Moran in left field Lee Walls at third base Jerry Tindall and the second baseman Bobby Morgan.
- 4:50Charlie Stilparra during the catching and right-hander Dave Hillman to do the pitching.

- 5:16Johnny Roseborough during the catching and Don Drysdale to do the pitching.
- 5:21The umpires for today's game will be San Landis behind the plate. Baker, Dascholi and Sikori on the base pass.
- 5:31Well a beautiful bright sunshine day here in Brooklyn and some good seats still available for this ball game.
- 5:37So if you're in the neighborhood and would like to spend a pleasant Saturday afternoon with us, come on out to the pitch field and take in the ball game.
- 5:43Ladies and gentlemen, the Dodgers have really been going on the home stand against the Western clubs with 1-8 and lost 1.
- 5:49Against the Western clubs, 0 against Cincinnati, 0 against Milwaukee, 0-1 with Stangler and 2 and 0 with Lee Chicago Cup.
- 5:58So 8 and 1 on the home stand against the Western clubs since the all-star break has moved the Dodgers from 5 games back in fifth place to 1 game off in second place.
- 6:10They're being in Milwaukee Braves by just 1 game. Against the Chubs on the year, the Dodgers have won 9 and have lost 1.
- 6:17And they have won 25 out of the 28 last games played between these clubs here at Everett Field.
- 6:23The Dodgers this year against the Chubs, 5 and 0 at Brooklyn, 1 and 0 at Jersey City and 3 and 1 at Chicago.
- 6:31So today, Don Drysdale face the mound, Don 7 and 3. Has 79 strikeouts and only 29 walks and 116 innings.
- 6:40Drysdale, by the way, coming up for his 21st birthday in about 3 days on the 23rd of July, Don will turn 21.
- 6:49In 10 innings against the Chubs, he's allowed only 2 runs, 1 earn, 12 hits with 3 walks and 14 strikeouts.
- 6:57The Dodgers on the field now with Jackson of 3rd, Neal of 3rd, Gilliam of 2nd.
- 7:02The Dodgers are first. They outfield with Amarosa left, Snyder in center and Somoli in right.
- 7:07Captain is John Roseburle who came into his own last night with a 10th inning 2 run home under 1st game and doing the 15th down Drysdale.
- 7:15Maybe they are for the Chicago Cup, will be the center fielder Bob Will.
- 7:19And stepping in now for the play-by-play for Lucky Strike, here's Ben Schulley.
- 7:23Thank you Jerry and good afternoon everybody and a very pleasant day to you or ever you may be.
- 7:28It's come up fine and hot in New York. Good day for game.
- 7:32Nice sky up above and a light breeze going out towards right.
- 7:35Bob Will, Bob Speek and Ernie Banks facing Don Drysdale as we're ready to go on this ladies day Saturday afternoon.
- 7:42Hope you'll be with us tomorrow for the big double header with Chicago.
- 7:46Drysdale's first pitch to pass ball on the outside corner and so we have begun.
- 7:51Bob Will had a fairly long night as did all of the Cubs last evening.
- 7:56Will went 1-8 and struck out 4 times.
- 7:59It was last time up he had a base hit so he had 1 close and dreamed.
- 8:03Pass ball a comeback here, backhanded by Drysdale. It turns and makes this play.
- 8:07One up, one away.
- 8:12Well I trust you slept well last night.
- 8:15There is no excuse for Al or Jerry myself if we boot a couple of plays there that's just the way it's going to be.
- 8:22But if we have the batting averages wrong and their base hits wrong etc. etc.
- 8:27We'll end free to give our team in statistician Alan Roth.
- 8:31He put in quite a night.
- 8:34Bob Speek batting 253 with 6 home runs 24 RBI's and a breaking ball is outside ball 1.
- 8:41What Alan Roth did after the twilight night double hit in order to compile all the triggers
- 8:46he was here at Eberfield at 3 o'clock in the morning.
- 8:49Got home a little after 4, went to bed and stayed in bed until he had nothing better to do and got up at 8.
- 8:55This is outside to sleep. Ball 2, 2-0.
- 8:59So the man at the wheel today is nodding a little bit with about 3 hours and 40 minutes of sleep.
- 9:09Speek waiting now, drives there, delivers 2-0 and the pitch is at the corner on the knees 2-1.
- 9:14Stan Landers for play down fire, Bill Baker at first, Frank Baskully at second and Frank Secori on the line at first.
- 9:22Ready for clearance coaching at first and George Maier around at first.
- 9:27The 2-1 pitch now to speak, pass ball, chopped away foul right over to Tech Frickers 2-2.
- 9:33Lucky strike, blown smoke rings through you and wishing you the very best, whatever you may be.
- 9:38If you're having a fine weekend.
- 9:4730 banks waiting on deck.
- 9:49Drives there already in the 2-2 pitch, pass ball outside, ball free.
- 9:54Full count.
- 9:56Quite an idea at Eberfield, a wonderful occasion in the Dodger dressing room and beaming this morning Mr. Gill Hodges.
- 10:06That's Gill out of 90 along remembers.
- 10:11The full count fits to Bob Speaks. Changeup caught on and floated to center, Snyder on the run but it dropped into the base head.
- 10:19Bob Speaks singles to center with one out in the first inning and the batter will be Ernie Banks.
- 10:24And now that we have got our caps and given a low bow from the waist to Mr. Gill Hodges,
- 10:29let us not forget and let us concentrate on the night of August the 20th.
- 10:33That will be after our third Western trip when we'll salute Carl Ferillo.
- 10:38And oddly enough the Dodgers will be playing the Chicago Cubs at night.
- 10:42Ernie Banks, batting 2-67.
- 10:47Drives there, delivers there and the breaking ball is outside, ball one.
- 10:51Even the dead wrong on Ferillo, make it August 28th.
- 10:56Two eights.
- 11:01Lysdale Stap takes a peek over at Bob Speaks. Now it comes to the place and the fastball is cut on and fouled away. One on one.
- 11:11I guess the Cubs figured that that's a Dodger booby trap to have a night for a player when they're in town and stir up the ball club.
- 11:18The Dodgers have been saluting Hodges last evening when they're first doubleheader of the year.
- 11:23Now the Cubs applies to the fact that we'll be saluting for a low on August 28th.
- 11:29Corner first, Bob speaks back. Just a start of things in case you might have just tuned in.
- 11:34Don Drysdale and Dave Hillman.
- 11:38Drysdale ready and the one-winner. Low curve on the inside corner for a strike, one and two.
- 11:44Drysdale is about to celebrate a birthday.
- 11:48It's the 23rd and he's already receiving his birthday cards.
- 11:53He'll be 21 years old on July 23rd and boy you should see some of these birthday cards that young Don receives from the Fairfax.
- 12:01One and two pitches cut on and fouled away. Holding count one and two.
- 12:06Don good looking young fella. Big and tall and a famous Major League ball player already in his young career.
- 12:13I know he's getting those mushy cards with the violets and the little hearths on them.
- 12:19And getting quite a ribbing about it too.
- 12:23Banks waiting one ball, two strikes. Drysdale ready.
- 12:26Check Bob's speak at first. Now it comes to the plate.
- 12:29And the fat ball is lined in the left center for a base hit.
- 12:31It'll go to the wall. Speak makes a turn and goes to third.
- 12:34The relay going into second to Gilliam. Not in time to get any banks.
- 12:39So Banks doubles into left center and just like that the Cubs have run into second and third with one out.
- 12:52One out on first base open and batter Walt Moore.
- 12:55Hitting 308. 12 home runs, 51 runs batted in.
- 13:03Drysdale 7 and 6 with the lead. He's beaten the Cubs twice.
- 13:08He's on the ropes right here in the first inning.
- 13:14Don looks in to get his sign. Bob's feet coming down off third.
- 13:17Only banks are short lead two seconds. One out.
- 13:20Drysdale winds and delivers. Fast balls on the corners like one.
- 13:28On pair been both leagues today Milwaukee and the Giants with toe bridge opposing Ruben Gomez.
- 13:33Cincinnati at Philadelphia it'll be Jeff Cote and the Ferns.
- 13:36Cardinals and Pirates are tied two and two at the end of two innings.
- 13:40Vickson against Friend who's telling you about the American League in a moment.
- 13:44Moore waiting on one on one on Beckley-Wald.
- 13:48Drysdale delivers. Fast ball and moves away. One ball, one strike.
- 13:52The Yankees and Cleveland it'll be Bobby Shands and early wins.
- 13:55Red Sox and White Sox probable pitches Nixon and Donovan.
- 13:59Washington Detroit, Cameron and Larry. Baltimore and Kansas City. Johnson and Puerto Carrero.
- 14:04So not too much to report this early phase.
- 14:09Drysdale to his full wind up. The 1-1 pitch to Walt Moran.
- 14:13Lowering inside at his knees ball two. Tune one.
- 14:17Don Drysdale and young Johnny Roseboro the battery.
- 14:21Benetages, Gilliam, Neil and Jackson. The outfield, Amos with a left cheekbone
- 14:26still pops a little bit after banging into the left field wall.
- 14:29Niter and Sutter and Somalian Wright.
- 14:35Drysdale ready and the 2-1 pitch to Moran. Fast ball fouled back.
- 14:40Two and two. It should be quite a day tomorrow.
- 14:45Mo Grapowski and Bob Wright going for Chicago.
- 14:49Carl Erskine will definitely work in one ball game and maybe Don Newcomb.
- 14:53Newcomb has come up with a hive. The question is whether you'll be able to assume this starting role tomorrow.
- 14:58If he can't make it then it will be either Danny McDevitt or Roger Craig.
- 15:02Depending upon the bullpen activity today.
- 15:07Drysdale delivers two and two. In a sharp curve a half swing but Moran checks and it's full count.
- 15:18We have about 5,000 not-hold youngsters out there in left field.
- 15:23But the number of ladies so we're guaranteed we'll have quite a bit of noise here today which is always a way to have it.
- 15:31Drysdale staring down the barrel. Now he's ready.
- 15:34The full count pitch to Wald Moran. Slow curve grounded to Hodges. A run will score.
- 15:38Drysdale didn't even cover it first and Hodges does it by himself.
- 15:43Or Drysdale perhaps still thinking about the double hit by Ernie Banks.
- 15:47It's a mental error but luckily Hodges is able to get to the bag as Drysdale remained right at the mound.
- 15:54Bob's feet carries over a run. Banks advances to third. Two down in the first inning and the Cubs have a run.
- 16:00The batter Lee Wald. Wald's hitting 234. He had two home runs last night. He now has four.
- 16:0726 runs battered him.
- 16:11Drysdale takes a look over at Ernie Banks as he inches down the line and foul ground.
- 16:16Ron goes through his wind up.
- 16:18The pitch to Lee Wald. Fast ball. Loan in try. Ball one.
- 16:23Sandland is the plate on fire. Bill Baker at first.
- 16:27That's Goliath Second. Sequoia Third.
- 16:33Drysdale right back to the plate 1-0 and the fast ball stays low on inside. Ball two. Two and all.
- 16:40Drysdale in the first inning with one out. Beats singles. Banks doubled and more in ground about as the run came over.
- 16:46Drysdale has a sign. Wig lagged out by Johnny Roseboro. Low curve and that misses outside. Ball three.
- 17:01Conducts Young Jelly Kimball.
- 17:11The Dodgers in second place. Sailing Milwaukee by one game and the Cubs in last place. Sailing by 20 and a half.
- 17:19They are now at the stage where they ask which way they go.
- 17:24They get an outfit way inside. Ball four. Goliath Wald starts the first.
- 17:32That'll bring up Jerry Kimball with a 202 batting average. He has four home runs. Seven runs batted in.
- 17:49Danny Jackson comes to the mound to talk to Drysdale for a moment. John a little bit disgusted.
- 17:54He has to fight himself out there when things aren't going too well. He's the type to get the red neck and quickly.
- 18:01Kindle a batter, runners at first and third with two out on the first inning. The Cubs have a run.
- 18:06Drysdale checks and delivers. Cereball cut on in this first right.
- 18:10One on one.
- 18:24Drysdale ready. Now the strike once it's Wald goes it's fouled away. 0-2.
- 18:32Goliath Wald going on the pitch. Jerry Kindle fouls her off on the count of one-two.
- 18:43With young Johnny Roseboro back of the plate, not our seasoned catchers. The Cubs might very well try and act up on the base pads all afternoon long.
- 18:52Joe and Two-Fits curve outside and stand right in the webbing of the glove by Roseboro. One and two.
- 19:07Drysdale looks in. Johnny Roseboro shuffles cards back of the plate. Now we're ready.
- 19:13Joe and Two-Fits curve ball got him a swing and then wraps it up.
- 19:20And the Kindle strikes out for Chicago in the first inning. They pick up a run on a single, a double and a war.
- 19:26Two men left on. There were no Dodgers errors. The end of half an inning, Chicago won and the Dodgers coming up.
- 19:32They'll give you about a big schedule, not just at home. The Dodgers go on the road and we have some television plans for you.
- 19:38So while the Cubs take the field, let's listen to Jerry.
- 19:41OK then, of course tomorrow the big double header winds up their home stand with the Chicago Cubs.
- 19:46A double header tomorrow starting at 2 o'clock. The Dodgers then have an off day on Monday and then going to St. Louis for a three game series.
- 19:53And the TV games will be on Wednesday and Thursday of next week from St. Louis.
- 19:578.55 airtime and those games are on Wednesday and Thursday night, July 25th and 26th in St. Louis on WRTV and of course on the Dodger Network on Radio.
- 20:08After St. Louis, the Dodgers go to Cincinnati for a weekend next week and then have a day off on the following Monday.
- 20:16Play Chicago five games and three days at Chicago and wind up the road trip with three games in Milwaukee over a weekend.
- 20:23Then they come back to New York to play at the New York Giants at Evertsfield opening a four game series on Monday night August the 5th.
- 20:30Four games with a Giants, three of them at Evertsfield and one at Jersey City.
- 20:35And after a 5-2 pitchfrog in New York, it's back home to again entertain the Western clubs on a long home stand during the last part of August.
- 20:43We'd like to suggest that you make your plans to be on hand at Evertsfield if you're coming in a part of your group contact Jim Murray,
- 20:49.55 Brooklyn 1 New York. Otherwise make your ticket arrangement and be sure to do your ticket shopping early.
- 20:55Alright, back to play on the last of the first inning and for Lucky Strike, here's then.
- 21:00Charlie Neal has been quite a full work on defense at shortstop and also playing fine ball up there at the plate.
- 21:06He's hitting 267. Six home runs, 28 runs batted in. Neal, Gilliam and Snyder, the way the Dodgers come up here in the bottom of the first.
- 21:14The Cubs have a run and the Dodgers now trying to get back in and even it up.
- 21:18Dave Hillman looks in to get his time from Charlie Silverup.
- 21:23Hillman winds and delivers. All the hands pass ball on the inside corner for a strike. On one, Neal started to drop that bat through his hands with his might punch and suck.
- 21:34Hillman one win and fixed your piece. His one victory came in really easy. He's never won in the majors as it started.
- 21:42On one again, Brooklyn. Strike one, fixed to Neal. Pass ball is slowly up along third. Kindle up with it cleanly.
- 21:48Makes his play the first in time. One up, one away.
- 21:56Junior Gilliam batting 268. One home run, 22 runs batted in.
- 22:14Dave Hillman looks in to get his time. Silverup links it out to him now on the right hander. Ready to go to work.
- 22:19Deliver to Gilliam, overhand pass ball, low on outside. One and 0. On deck, Duke Snyder.
- 22:26Duke's been really coming alive with that bat of late. We told you before Alan Roth hadn't been sleeping too well last night.
- 22:32The same story for Snyder. Duke had a rough night. We looked it on the bench today.
- 22:39106 to Gilliam, pass ball bounced up to first. Cops speak, underhands to Hillman covering in time for the odds. Two downs.
- 22:49Snyder was moaning on the bench that after the twilight night double header by the time he got home and got to bed it was around two o'clock.
- 22:57And the children in the family decided to make some noise at quarter after six.
- 23:07Nothing is said is sounded like Custer's last band in the bedroom this morning. So he's working on four hours sleep.
- 23:16The Duke also working on a 282 batting average with 23 home runs, 54 runs batted in.
- 23:23Now feel deep and around the right. Snyder waiting at the plate. Now as Hillman goes to his wind up and delivers way outside ball one.
- 23:33I'm back the honor man of last evening, Gill Hodges.
- 23:38He can't begin to well up on the left field fans where the not whole kids are. We want a hit.
- 23:48Hillman winds and the 106 this night is. Sharp Curves cut on in this one and one.
- 24:04Two out last of the first inning. Shubs one, Dodgers nothing. The end of an inning they're walking in the Giants no score.
- 24:11Watch that one carefully. The one one fits the plan.
- 24:19burdensome play МУЗЫКА
- 24:41ijk
- 24:45and two fastballs just inside. He didn't miss by much. Soon to.
- 24:55Lucky Sykes sending it all to you from Etterfield in Brooklyn with the big doubleheader tomorrow.
- 25:00Those are about to get Bob Rush for Chicago.
- 25:03They're skin on Newcombe the poppables and if Newcombe can't make it, then either Craig or McDevitt should fill in.
- 25:09But Earth can definitely going in one.
- 25:16Filman back to work now and the two to fix this 90.
- 25:19Fastball a half-ling it's a five.
- 25:21Oh please. And that is Justin Jakes.
- 25:26Full count.
- 25:28Filman takes a deep sigh out there in the mile. Now sends a way to get it signed.
- 25:39Night awaiting.
- 25:40Hillman winds in the three to fix.
- 25:42Low curve inside.
- 25:44Therefore, it's those nine to watch.
- 25:46And that will bring up Gil Hunt.
- 25:48Gil Hunt is of course greatly appreciative.
- 25:54Have a wonderful night last night.
- 25:56All the gifts and the honors he's department himself and his family.
- 26:00But he summed it all up after the long doubleheader sitting in front of his locker room with the big doubleheader.
- 26:06He's got a great deal of money.
- 26:08He's got a great deal of money.
- 26:10He's got a great deal of money.
- 26:12He's got a great deal of money.
- 26:14But he summed it all up after the long doubleheader sitting in front of his locker room with a big shy grin on his face last night.
- 26:20He just had a shoe. I'm glad that's over.
- 26:23He was on Friday's bus.
- 26:25Filman delivers and the fish outside.
- 26:28Ball one. One and all.
- 26:32Hodges last evening.
- 26:34That's two hits. One hit meets games.
- 26:36His second hit came in the first inning of the second game and cashed in his one thousandth run bout at the end of his major league career.
- 26:44Our side of that. He didn't hit the ball very hard the rest of the night.
- 26:48But he could do no wrong. That's before 28,000 folks.
- 26:54The one-off is to Gil.
- 26:56Half turn. It's just on the corner for a strike.
- 26:58He didn't break very much. One and one.
- 27:00We're two out and trying to go ahead and get a good speed at first base. The cut is figuring out that Snyder might be trying to steal.
- 27:06So on every first, Charlie Silvera angles his body ready to get a throw off down the second.
- 27:13The walkie at bat in the second inning is scored a run and they're still swinging.
- 27:16Rave one. Giant snubbing in the second.
- 27:19Cincinnati did not score in the first inning against Philadelphia. Cardinals and Pirates decide two and two at the end of two.
- 27:26Feldman checks Snyder. The one-one-six to Hodges a high pass ball of all two. Two and one.
- 27:57Feldman leans on his left knee while it looks him to get his time. Snyder is short lead off for his turn on by Bob Speaks.
- 28:03One nothing comes, last of the first inning.
- 28:07With two one-fits, fast ball, a line drive deflected by pitcher, Feldman scampers, picks up the ball, throws, not in time, the first base.
- 28:15And Feldman was strung right off the right hand.
- 28:20That ball hit him coming back like a bullet.
- 28:22Feldman walking off and holding the right hand out and he got it on the middle finger.
- 28:28As Feldman walked off, holding that right hand out, Bob's shopping comes over to look at it.
- 28:33And it's cut right at the nail. He can spot a little fleck of blood there.
- 28:38And shopping makes a motion down in his bullpen to get a man ready.
- 28:42Before Dave Feldman has had it, he fires his glove and is stuffed into the dugout, rings that middle finger and then goes and sits down.
- 28:50So Hodges literally gets a face hit off Dave Hillman and knocks him out of the ballgame.
- 28:57A line drive about face high and Hillman fortunately got his hands up.
- 29:02Unfortunately, instead of the glove hand, the bare hand puts the force of the ball.
- 29:06So the cuts form quite a knot around him now in the dugout and Hillman will be taken back to the dressing room.
- 29:12John Kayser is coming in from the Chicago Bullpen.
- 29:28So Hodges, it's a line drive right back at Dave Hillman for a face hit.
- 29:32Snyder goes to second on the play and Hillman has that ball hit him right off the middle finger, right at the nail.
- 29:42And he had to come out. He's no longer able to grip the baseball.
- 29:45So that's a tough break for the Cubs and for young Hillman who is still looking for his first victory in a starting role in the Major League.
- 29:51And he is driven out on one pitch today.
- 29:54Snyder, of course, coming out to the mound did not warm up in the bullpen.
- 29:58Then he can take just as long as he wants out there in the mound. He does not have to take the maximum of eight required pitches in that tonight.
- 30:05He can just throw Natalie Fields ready, so he just stands aside and waits.
- 30:09And while young Don begins to loosen up and gets a feel of the mound and gets that arm ready,
- 30:13then you both might have missed some of the ball games overplayed last evening.
- 30:17He'd like to also get the Major League standing set in your mind.
- 30:20And then if we have time, we'll check the scores again.
- 30:22So let's get over to Jerry while Kayser warms up.
- 30:24OK, Ben, in the Major League last night, the Dodgers won a double-hunter from Chicago, six to three, and five to three.
- 30:30The first team going tenonings on Gil Hodges' night.
- 30:33Milwaukee beat the Giants three to one.
- 30:35Pittsburgh beat St. Louis seven to nothing as Burn War shot him out and beat Barne McDaniels.
- 30:40And Cincinnati behind Joe Knox all beat Souther-Belfia and Jack Sanford.
- 30:44So the Phillies took a tumble in the first place and the crazy mix-up,
- 30:48National East End East, now have Milwaukee on top by one game over the Dodgers.
- 30:54St. Louis is in third, two games out, and our one percentage point ahead of Cincinnati.
- 30:59The Red Lakes also are two games behind.
- 31:01Philadelphia is in fifth place, two-and-a-half back.
- 31:04With New York ten-and-a-half, Pittsburgh seventeen-and-a-half, and Chicago twenty-and-a-half.
- 31:09And figuring it out quickly, if the Dodgers win the day from the cup and the Giants beat Milwaukee,
- 31:14the Dodgers could go in the first place by a percentage point or two.
- 31:18In the American League, the Yankees continue to roll in the Quarberg Cleveland nine to one,
- 31:23while the Boston Reds talk to Chicago five to two.
- 31:27Detroit beat Washington four to one, and Baltimore beat Kansas City four to two.
- 31:32So the Yankees now setting the pattern as in past years after a slow start,
- 31:37are brazed along with a sixth game lead over second place Chicago,
- 31:40and it looks like it might be all over in the American League race.
- 31:43New York six games ahead of Chicago, with Boston and very twelve games out,
- 31:48Cleveland fourteen-and-a-half, Detroit fifteen-and-a-half, and Baltimore sixteen,
- 31:52and Kansas City twenty-six, and Washington thirty.
- 31:56So that's the results of last night's games and the standings as we go into action for today.
- 32:01Harrison scores, Sam Orson scores four runs, in the top of the third inning,
- 32:05and leads the pirate six to two.
- 32:07Both spots got a pair of runs in the first inning, and then in the third inning,
- 32:13Joe Lennon set a home run with two on, and St. Louis leads six to two three innings of play.
- 32:19In that ballgame at Pittsburgh, it's Murray Vickson against Bob Frimm,
- 32:23who was knocked out and replaced by King in the third.
- 32:26Vickson starting with a four-two record, and Frimm seven and eleven.
- 32:31In the ballgame at the follow-ground,
- 32:34Milwaukee now has scored three runs in the second inning, and are still a fast.
- 32:38Strowbridge going against Gomez, Strowbridge a last-minute starter in place of Warren Spahn.
- 32:43His record three and two, and Gomez was eleven and eight,
- 32:46and is being touched around a bit in the second inning, as Milwaukee has scored three times.
- 32:51Cincinnati and Philadelphia, Jeff's scored against Turn, Jeff's scored eight and seven,
- 32:56and Turn is four and one.
- 32:58There's no score at the end of the half inning of play, and now we're not Philadelphia.
- 33:01In the American League, the Yankees play Cleveland, at Cleveland,
- 33:05and there's no score at the end of one inning, and Bobby Chance with a nine and two record,
- 33:09against Sterling Wim, who is 12 and 10.
- 33:12Boston playing at Chicago, Sistler against Donovan, Sistler is seven and five,
- 33:17and Donovan is eight and three for Chicago.
- 33:20Washington at Detroit, the game is not started, Kimmer is three and six against Larry,
- 33:24who is four and eleven.
- 33:26Baltimore playing at Kansas City, Baltimore seven, choosing Johnson seven and six,
- 33:31and Kansas City four to Carrell, who is three and four.
- 33:36Don Kies is still warming up on the mound.
- 33:38He gets as much time to warm up a score as he wants,
- 33:41and since they have been in the hill with the starter,
- 33:44where it's jumped out of the box and taken out the guard of an entry.
- 33:47So before we get back to action, let's pause now for station identification.
- 33:52This is the Brooklyn Dodgers, radio network.
- 33:54Dial 1460 WOKO Albany, WOKO, the Capital District's most talked about station with downtown studios
- 34:01in the hotel Wellington.
- 34:03Correct WOKO time now, 28 minutes after two o'clock, and now back to Brooklyn Dodger baseball.
- 34:12For Chicago, with Dave Hillman out, Don Kieser comes on now.
- 34:16Young Don has been in 17 games, and he's started 12, so he's now in a 18-12 game.
- 34:23He's worked 65 in the third and eighths within last night's game.
- 34:26He's struck out 20, walked 24, and his record against the league is two in and five long.
- 34:33The Tiger now has completed World of Starks, and now Charlie Sorbargo's about to check signal what is,
- 34:38and the Emeralds stepping the bat with Duke's handle on second, feel how he's going first.
- 34:42So back to the action, and here's this.
- 34:44For a real top break for Dave Hillman, the young fellow making his 11th start in the major league.
- 34:50He has never won a ball game as a starter. He doesn't start that often.
- 34:54Now imagine a few days ago, he was told by Bob Shipping,
- 34:56that, well, you'll start on Saturday, and like all young ball players,
- 35:00they're waiting for the day, and hope he had his stuff, finally went out to the mound,
- 35:04and the first inning, a line drive, it's him off the finger, and he has to come out.
- 35:08Well, you play this game, you'll have your heart broken a number of ways.
- 35:11All right, stand the Emeralds, fighting against Don Kieser.
- 35:15Run as his first and second, two out on the first, the Cubs have a run.
- 35:19Amarose had a couple of great fifths, each one driving in a run in the first game last night.
- 35:23Kieser's curve is felted to right center field, more than going back, that's going to be off the wall.
- 35:28And the curve is played by Bob Willis, center fielders.
- 35:31In comes Shepard, Hodges forgot to touch third, and then gets back on a good slow by Bobby Morgan.
- 35:37But Amarose doubles up the right center field wall, and she's all tied one and one.
- 35:46To further disconcert Dave Hillman and all his troubles, he could conceivably be the losing fifth.
- 35:54The run that came over belongs to Hillman, and Hodges at first belongs to Hillman.
- 36:05So if Hodges gets over and that Hodges takes the lead, and the Cubs never do at least high up the ballgame,
- 36:10for Hillman were really a bad affair Dave. You know, Samoley batting 2.99, he's right in the depth of a pit of batting slump right now.
- 36:18He had nine old runs and 37 runs batted in. Amarose's second, Hodges at third, two out, a one one tie in the first.
- 36:26Don Kieser taking over for the injured Hillman, sends a fast ball in for the strike, on one.
- 36:32The Giants finally quieted the brave, but not before Milwaukee picked up three runs in the second inning,
- 36:38so at the end of an inning and a half, brave three, Giants nothing.
- 36:44On one to Samoley. Kieser, Y and Ken delivers, curve ball outside, one ball, one strike.
- 36:52With two outs, nine to watch, Hodges at a line drive right back off Hillman's fingers, for a base hit and to get Hillman out of the game.
- 36:59Amarose has just doubled off the wall to drive in the tying run.
- 37:05Top wheel, the centerfielder for the Cubs has a good arm, and the left handed centerfielder goes very well.
- 37:10One oneer with the curve ball low ball too.
- 37:13Well with two outs, any time you hit that wall in right center, you usually figure to get both runs in.
- 37:19Hodges took an awkward turn at third base. I think he might have missed the back corner of the bag anyway,
- 37:26but Herman had put the stop sign on. Well it plays a count perfectly, fired the Morgan who maintained relay to the plate.
- 37:36Two bad one strikes.
- 37:41Kieser winds now the two one-fifters from Oly, a breaking ball, that's over, two and two.
- 37:46Hodges is wild here in the first inning of a one one tie.
- 37:56Gil Hodges is third, Fandy Amarose is second, and Randy Jackson on jacks.
- 38:05Kieser has a sign now from Charlie Chilvera, the two two-fifths, careful leak, pour and dribble foul outside third.
- 38:11Holding counts two and two.
- 38:16Kieser's batting, he slumps, there's now no hits in his last 17 at bat. Two two-fifths, the geno fast ball,
- 38:40there's a high drive to right field, Walt Moran going back to the base of the wall, he's got his face hit, it bounces away,
- 38:46Hodges and Amarose score on a double by Chamoli, Will falls down, fielding the count and Chamoli goes to third.
- 38:56And the Dodges now lead three to one.
- 39:01Chamoli hit a high drive off the right field wall, and the count shot by Walt Moran.
- 39:07Bob Willey shot a field that came over to play the count and fell to his knees, and that allowed Chamoli to take the extra base,
- 39:15and Will of course having fallen down is given the error.
- 39:19So Chamoli doubles to right and goes to third on Bob Wille's error.
- 39:24Gino with a face that's breaking the drought and drives in two.
- 39:31Hodges and Amarose easily score.
- 39:33For two runs to Helman, one run charged to Kaisers, Dodges lead three-one in the first inning, two outs.
- 39:42Chamoli at third base and Randy Jackson at batting, Kaisers delivers the curve long away, ball one.
- 39:48Kaisers came on with run as a first in second and two outs, and back-to-back doubles by Amarose and Chamoli have put the Dodges out in front.
- 39:57Jackson batting 205 with four runs batted in.
- 40:08One-on-fist to Randy, third ball at base, little high, ball two, turn ball.
- 40:20Kaisers appeared last night in the lead, but go over for Chamoli.
- 40:23Kaisers hit two innings of relief and retired to side of Norwich.
- 40:29Here's the first inning today and Relayby's being roughed up a bit.
- 40:32Hodges three-cups, one first inning, two outs, and Jackson third whacked in the left field at the base.
- 40:39Hitting comes from Heli, and it is four to one, Russell.
- 40:42And the camonading continues well.
- 40:44Hit number three off Kaisers, the second run that he's allowed and a troubled Bob Shedley,
- 40:49motion to the bullpen to get somebody else up.
- 40:53And the camonading continues well.
- 41:16Down in the Chicago bullpen, Jim Brosnan begins to loosen up now, and Johnny Rostow sets in.
- 41:22All that's going on was two outs.
- 41:24Hodges four, Chicago one.
- 41:26Kaisers' fastball is two loads, but all four ones.
- 41:30John looks like a man who had just had a big Thanksgiving dinner today.
- 41:34He was just sitting back on the bench, there's the most amenable grin you ever saw.
- 41:38Well, last night he got his feet wet at the shitshow in a crowd manner.
- 41:43He won the first ball game, the free-run home run.
- 41:47Third ball is not halfway out to the mound. Kaisers feels it, throws him out, and that's it.
- 41:53But Rostow hits back to the box, and that closes things out.
- 41:58Not however, before the Dodgers, after the first two minutes gone out, come up with four runs.
- 42:05Four hits, they leave a man, and there was one tub error.
- 42:10At the end of an inning of play, Brooklyn, four runs on four hits, then Chicago one run on two hits.
- 42:16Now if you were in St. Gary's, say that you know that baseball players often speak in numbers.
- 42:21For example, do you know who Mr. 2-4 is on the Brooklyn club?
- 42:26That's right, Mr. Manager, Walt Alston.
- 42:29If these players have a habit of calling the manager, and sometimes other players by number, it's better by name.
- 42:35Now that's the number, now let's speak in letters, like LF, MFB.
- 42:40That's easily translated. Lucky Strike means fine debacle. All fine debacle, masterly miles, good-facing debacle, that's close to the base even better.
- 42:51Cleaners, record, included. Right up for lucky right now. You say it's the best-facing cigarette you ever spoke.
- 43:00Well, we go to the second inning now, where they're four-to-one ways for the Dodgers.
- 43:06And it'll be Bobby Morgan, Charlie Silver, and Don Keinz, who do all the plays down in Drysale.
- 43:12So back to the play and here's Fin.
- 43:14Well, Bobby hitting 2.26, he has two home runs and 11 runs, that it is.
- 43:19John, I'm happy to make my flight a scene here at Ebbersfield, of late, with Roy Campanola warming up the pitchers.
- 43:24Every time Johnny Roseborough has to put on the gear.
- 43:27Roseborough, of course, has to be the heir apparent, back of the plate, Campanola, during everything possible to keep the young man all the tricks back of the plate, and also in hitting.
- 43:37Roseborough hit that home run to win the first game in 10 innings last season.
- 43:41The first man who shot out of the Dodger dug out to meet him at home plate was Campanola.
- 43:46Drysale delivers to Morgan, and the fastball, and Sphinx is cut on in this first strike on one.
- 43:51Shipping motion to his full pen now, and they get somebody up again, so it might be he'll go to a bench for Kaiser.
- 43:58Drysale back again with a strike on serve, and that misses North on the corner, excuse me, on two.
- 44:05Drysale back again with a curve that's cut on, and it's a high drive to Deep Lefield, Amarillo's back near the wall, has a chance for it now and makes the play.
- 44:23High fly ball to Deep Lefield, one up, one away. Jim Brosnan throwing again on the Chicago bullpen.
- 44:31And the batter will be Charlie Silveri hitting 222.
- 44:36Charlie with one run battered in.
- 44:47Drysale gets a sign from Johnny Roseborough, out down delivers, and the fastball, low on inside for once.
- 44:53You know, umpires are just like ballplayers, you have to watch them a while and make your own book on exactly how they work down there on the field.
- 45:00Watching Stan Landis back at the place. That's all it hits the hole and through for a base hit.
- 45:06Social narrative singles with one out. Landis, a very deliberate umpire, and it's all to his credit.
- 45:12What Stan will do is look at the pitch, then straighten up, and then slowly bring that hand up, so you really have to wait on the call.
- 45:19Deleted take on time.
- 45:49The batter should be Don Kaiser, but instead Jim Bolger is coming up the bat.
- 46:18Bolger, utility outfielders, VRL GDR, heading for Gronk, now.
- 46:29Kaiser worked one-third of an inning, gave us three hits and two runs.
- 46:33Why, look, Dave Hillman, however, as of this moment, must take the burden of the defeat.
- 46:40They're only pushing the four batters. Jim Bolger coming up.
- 46:48Bolger right-hand batters. One out, second inning, Charlie Silvera at first base. Dodges four, Chicago one.
- 46:59Riesdale turns on the rubber, now it's back. Works the plate, then it's curved in the dirt, back to the backstop, and on the wild pitch, Charlie Silvera goes to second.
- 47:10Roseboro never had a chance, the lawyer attempted to backhand it. The ball actually bounced and the left hand hit his box to give you an idea how far away from the plate it was.
- 47:19One ball, no strikes. Well, the Braves are trying to scalp the Giants and do it quickly.
- 47:24They got three runs in the second inning. They scored one on the third and they're still at bat, so the Braves four, the Giants nothing. Jim the third.
- 47:37Riesdale looks at second, the one-opet. Fastball, unintentionally, looks the right field for a base hit.
- 47:42Somali's charging, going to third, they'll hold him there and the throw goes to Gilliam. All Bolge's trying to do is check his swing and the ball hit is bad and looks the right for a base hit.
- 47:55Well, with one out, the Cubs come up with back-to-back singles. Four hits now. Off, Don drives there. Runners at first and third with one out and Walter Olson walks down to the far corner of the dugout and will perhaps get on the phone and call to his bullpen.
- 48:11Bob Willabatter hits back to the box in the first inning and in 243. Dodger in field and double play-depth. However, Randy Jackson is up almost even with the bag at third.
- 48:23Side-arm fastball is lowered inside for once. No doubt about it, Riesdale having control problems out there. Olson has talked to the bullpen, hung up the phone, no one's throwing as yet. Glembelbine gets up off the dodger fence and walks on down towards the bullpen.
- 48:48The 1-0 pitch to Bob Willabatter down low ball, two through an O. Jim Bolger at first. Charlie Silvera at third. One out in the second inning. Brooklyn 4, Chicago 1. A double-header tomorrow.
- 49:09Riesdale sets. Now the 2-0 pitch. Fastball flies to left field. Amarose fairly shallow. Makes the catch. Silvera not a fast man. They hold him on a one-bounce strike to the plate by Amarose.
- 49:27So Will slices out to shallow left. Amarose made a nice throw to the plate. Silvera of course is very slow and George Mayer at third had no idea of ever sending Charlie in.
- 49:40Two down, runners at first and third and the batter Bob Speaks. Single to center in the first inning, running 257. The brave settle for a one run.
- 50:02So at the end of two and a half innings, no walkie-four and the giant's nothing. The pitch to Bob Speaks is cut on and fouled at the plate held by Johnny Roseboro. Own one.
- 50:15At the end of three innings, the Cardinals sixth and the Pirates two. Lucky strikes, sending it all to you from Heavens Field and Brooklyn.
- 50:27The strike one pitch to Speaks, fastball two low. Roseboro has trouble finding it and big landers leave trying the air to give them some room. One and one.
- 50:54The one one pitch to Bob Speaks, a fastball outside, ball two, two and one. Molder at first, Bill Varrod third, two outs. Brosnan loosening up in the bullpen, will be pitching to Brooklyn in the bottom of the second inning.
- 51:14The ball delivers two one, Speaks flings, a bound to the Gilliam, Jim up with it cleanly, throws to Hodges and that does it. For the Cubs in the second, no runs, two hits. So the wild pitch, two men left on. No dodgers.
- 51:28At the end of an inning and a half, Brooklyn fourth, Chicago one and just like that, back to Jerry. Well, play fans, take a guess at the time here in Brooklyn. See how close you can get.
- 51:38Well, if you said it was 245, then you're exactly right. And if you had a little further and said it was also light up time, then you're thinking the same thing I am. Yes, sir?
- 51:48The time to catch a match to a lucky strike. Time to settle back to the real deep sound smoking enjoyment of a truly genuine cigarette. And believe me, a lucky is just that. Genuine because it's all cigarette. All fine tobacco.
- 52:03Mild, naturally good tasting tobacco that's close to the taste even better. Cleaner, breaker, smoother. Light up a lucky. You'll say it's the best tasting cigarette you ever smoke.
- 52:16Well, we played 45 minutes. Now going to the last half of the second inning with Drysdale, Neal and Gilliam coming on. The Dodgers sent eight men up in the first inning with short four runs.
- 52:27And it all began after two were out on the sidewalk and Hodges ripped fingernails of Dave Hillman. And Kaiser came on. Amarose, Timonio and Jackson got basic for the finale of the inning.
- 52:39So now we'll have Jim Brosnan coming on as the third to cause all the pictures.
- 52:44This guy is the one out 46. So back to the action and here's Jim. Jim Brosnan coming on making his 27th appearance, his 26th in the league. He has one win and four defeats.
- 53:01McCobbs in last place and when you look at the win and loss record of the pictures, not very well. Dick Drott is holding his own with the league, which is about the best you can say. He is eight and eight.
- 53:14Walsh last night. So he's one and five. Brosnan one and four. Rush who will work tomorrow is one and nine. Kaiser two and five. Drobowski five and eight. Hillman who could lose today would then be one and seven.
- 53:30Well, things have been pretty tough for Chicago. Jim Brosnan, the third pitcher coming on.
- 53:40Don Drysdale has his two home runs this year and five runs batted in. Brosnan winds and delivers. Fastball, beaten foul is a play, don't want.
- 53:51While he's up there, we can tell you a little note that we received today which we passed down to Drysdale.
- 53:56The father of a youngster about six and a half to seven years old and the father wrote us a note and said that he has taken his young boy to three major league ball games. In each of the three games, Drysdale was the starting pitcher. And in each game, Drysdale had a home run.
- 54:11So his father finished off the letter. He said, you can have your maize and mantles and snipers and Williams. As far as my boy is concerned, the home run king is Don Drysdale.
- 54:22One one pitch to Don, cut on a nurse one and two. And you have to wonder now, is this crowd here, whether that combination of father and son might possibly be looking on again today.
- 54:34That's like being born in the 30s. You figure the only president the country ever had was Mr. Roosevelt. One and two pitch is cut on and fouled our first base down the line back into the crowd.
- 54:46Holding count one and two. Little boy growing up, they can drive there as a best home run hitter in baseball.
- 54:57Drysdale, Neil and Gilliam here in the second, four one Brooklyn.
- 55:04The one and two pitch to Don, curveball fouled away, holding count one and two.
- 55:12The end of four innings of play, the Cardinals six, the Pirates two, the Phillies lead Cincinnati one nothing at the end of one inning.
- 55:19Braves lead the Giants four nothing at the end of two and a half. Jim Brosnan, the third pitcher, comes to the plate with a high fast ball that's cut on and missed and down goes Don.
- 55:31Bravesman chalked up his strike out one out. The battered Charlie Neil will bounce out on the first inning hitting 266 on deck Jim Gilliam.
- 55:56Brosnan ready and delivers. First pitch, low on outside ball one. Brooklyn four runs four hits. They got them all in the first inning after two outs.
- 56:05The Cubs one run on four hits.
- 56:13Brosnan two is wind up. Now the one oh pitch to Neil. Fastball stays inside ball two. Chundo. The outfield on Neil about straight away.
- 56:32Two and oh pitch to Charlie. Fastball missing inside ball three. Three and oh. This is the 11th meeting, the halfway point between the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in their own private little feud of 22 games.
- 56:46The Dodgers have a commanding edge. They've won nine out of ten. The three and oh pitch down the pipe three and one.
- 56:54There have been five games played here in the east. One of them at Roosevelt Stadium and the Dodgers have taken all five from the Cubs.
- 57:05The three one pitch to Charlie Neil in there. Charlie starting to go to first and has to come back. You only have a full count.
- 57:12You have an oh here at Abbott Field and one victory over at Roosevelt Stadium directly in the east. The Dodgers have taken all six games played from Chicago.
- 57:27The rubber ball comes bouncing out onto the field so time has called for a moment. Eddie Lehan and Dodger Batboy goes out to get it.
- 57:37Charlie DiGiovanni is no longer the Dodger Batboy. He is now and officially so the assistant clubhouse man.
- 57:46Full count pitch to Charlie Neil. Fastball is low and Charlie's on.
- 57:55One out Neil at first and the batter Jim Gilliam in in 267.
- 58:03The Dodgers have thrown out Bob Speak to Dave Hillman who was then covering in the first inning.
- 58:10Time called by Jerry Kindle at third. Another rubber ball comes out on the field.
- 58:19All right Gilliam settles in the hitters box on deck Duke Snyder.
- 58:27Here goes Neil. The curve is cut on and missed and then Silvera cannot hold onto the ball to make a play and Neil steals second without a play being made on him.
- 58:36Silvera as he caught the ball tried to turn his body and make a throw towards second and like wet soaked the ball just jumped out of his glove.
- 58:43He caught it in the air and that's by that time he had no play whatsoever.
- 58:47Now Neil steals second base. It is the seventh steal for Charlie but what is more important anytime you give a stolen base for a man you ought to check and find out how many attempts he has made.
- 58:58So Charlie has stolen seven in nine attempts. That's very good.
- 59:05The strike one puts the Gilliam fastball up high one on one. You know the amazing thing maybe the old timers would argue a lot about it but you know how they always point at high cobs.
- 59:13That's great base stealer. He stole 96 bases or something in one year. You know he was thrown out over 70 times. Nobody ever tells you about that.
- 59:22Didn't we find that in the record book? We didn't. Good night.
- 59:29The one one fits the Gilliam but it's foul one and two. No sirs somewhere I read that in the book.
- 59:36Can we find out can we find out as far as five cobs stolen bases and time to get out. Only 36.
- 59:46I only missed like 40. Wow. Having a great day.
- 59:51Running through the count of Jim Gilliam. All right. He was thrown out 36 times. That's a lot isn't it.
- 59:58I admit it's not as many as 76. That was late last night.
- 1:00:03Another rubber ball comes out on the field. We got time to sit here and wait. Landis comes over now and asks Tech Trickers.
- 1:00:09Gentlemen please stop throwing the rubber balls down on the field.
- 1:00:14As these children are playing the story of rubber balls on the field. Some player make it hard. Thank you.
- 1:00:23Tech Trickers rising the youngsters not to throw the rubber balls out on the field.
- 1:00:28One and two the count of Gilliam. We got to look up in the book to find out the official total now.
- 1:00:34We saw it was 36 times. You saw that feeling.
- 1:00:38One and two fits the Gilliam. A curve ball on the inside corner called strike three.
- 1:00:45Jim Brosnan has struck out two men here in the second inning and the batter is Duke Snyder who walked in the first inning.
- 1:00:51Brosnan and Silvera put their heads together now. Two out and Neil at second. Rippon Ford, Chicago one in the bottom of the second inning.
- 1:00:58Here it is. Anti-cob holds the record.
- 1:01:05Iris R. Cobb in 1915 throw 96 bases. But he was also thrown out 38 times.
- 1:01:14I don't know where I got that 76. For 38 half of it, it's on a half right.
- 1:01:22But the Snyder's got on it a high five all the right. It's playable.
- 1:01:26Walt Moran is waiting in front of the store board and takes it for the out.
- 1:01:32The Dodgers in the second. No runs, no hits. The man left the on those are stolen bases. No coverers. One by me.
- 1:01:38At the end of two innings of play. Brosnan fours, Chicago one.
- 1:01:42Well I'm sure one thing, Jerry is just going to read that off that paper and tell us all about something so let's get over to it.
- 1:01:48All right Vinnie, well that was a grand night you folks tendered Gil Hodges last night.
- 1:01:52And I can tell you there wasn't a happier or more appreciative guy in this world than Gil was last night.
- 1:01:57Well it wasn't a wonderful seeing him out there with his fine family and his many friends and hearing the cheers of the pack house.
- 1:02:03Boy it sure was. And just to remind it folks we've got another play tonight coming your way when the Dodgers get back home in August.
- 1:02:11Shutdown the day. Carl Salilow night. August 28th.
- 1:02:16The committee has a large block of tickets waiting for you if you'll drop some a line at the Bossard Hotel.
- 1:02:21Carl Salilow night. August the 28th.
- 1:02:26Well our ballgame moves along to the third inning now.
- 1:02:30And for Chicago Ernie Banks, Walt Moran and Lee Wall coming on to face right under Don Drysdale on a warm afternoon here at Abbott Field.
- 1:02:39Don Drysdale trying to get shot and move down and hold on to the lead that he has.
- 1:02:44At the end of three Milwaukee leads to New York, 4-0 at the end of four.
- 1:02:49St. Louis leads Pittsburgh 6-2 and Philadelphia leads Cincinnati 1-0 at the end of two.
- 1:02:54All right back to play in for Lucky Strikes here at the end.
- 1:02:594-1 in favor of Brooklyn.
- 1:03:08The batter is Ernie Banks who takes the curve ball low ball one.
- 1:03:12Both Teeley Reese and Carl Salilow are trying to say something from the dugout.
- 1:03:19I don't get it. Here's a picture of the play now, low on outside.
- 1:03:25Ernie Banks, Walt Moran and Lee Wall.
- 1:03:33Banks running 270 Drysdale checking his signs now with Johnny Roseball. Don delivers 1-1.
- 1:03:38The change is outside in low ball two. Turn one.
- 1:03:44My cob was thrown out 38 times.
- 1:03:49Good, Dr. Drysdale ready and the 2-1 pitch. Fastball fouled away.
- 1:03:55Tune two. A couple of kids go skidding out of the sand.
- 1:04:04Two of them were girls.
- 1:04:06And now of course the park policeman will have to walk down the line and take the ball from them
- 1:04:11for you're not allowed to climb over the wall.
- 1:04:15They have any baseball hit in the sand.
- 1:04:18Tune two. The count's to Ernie Banks. Drysdale ready and delivers.
- 1:04:22Kurt Ball got him swinging. Ernie Banks strikes out.
- 1:04:28One out here in the third inning. 4-1 Brooklyn.
- 1:04:30And the batter, Walt Moran, who bounced out in the first inning.
- 1:04:33Walt batting 307.
- 1:04:46Drysdale too has wind up and delivers to Moran who wraps one into center field for a clean base hit.
- 1:04:51Snyder over there to field the ball on a couple of tricky bounces and get it back in.
- 1:04:55Moran single with one out on the third and the batter will be Lee Walls.
- 1:05:00Hit number five. Off Don Drysdale.
- 1:05:03Walt walks in the first inning. Lee batting 234.
- 1:05:17Drysdale getting his time. Now Don sets and delivers.
- 1:05:22Adam Fastball off the glove of Drysdale down to Gilliam who juggles and goes to kneel for the foreslide.
- 1:05:28What happened was that Walt Moran in coming down after the ball had been deflected by Drysdale to Gilliam,
- 1:05:35Moran realized that he'd be out and also realized that if he kept on charging he'd grind Gilliam right into the dirt.
- 1:05:42So Walt stopped for a split second, then Gilliam bobbled but still had a chance to go to kneel.
- 1:05:48So the foreslide will technically go one to four to six. Drysdale will get an assist for slowing it down.
- 1:05:55Two down to batter Jerry Kindle who struck out in the first inning hitting 200.
- 1:05:59Drysdale looks to first, comes to the plate, a broken bat and our looper grabbed by Randy Jackson and that does it.
- 1:06:06Kindle hitting it right off the hand.
- 1:06:09So the Cubs in the third, no runs ahead of man left to Hondo and Ododger errors.
- 1:06:13At the end of two and a half innings of play, Brooklyn four and Chicago one. Now here's Jerry.
- 1:06:18You want to hear the latest? Well, stick around for a minute and we'll give you some more of Happy Joe Lucky's Clubhouse chatter.
- 1:06:24Meantime, let's all settle back and light up a lucky, it's light up time.
- 1:06:28Time to enjoy a cigarette that's called cigarette, all fine tobacco.
- 1:06:33Naturally good-tasting tobacco that's toasted to taste even better.
- 1:06:37Cleaners, right here smoother. Yes sir, that's a lucky.
- 1:06:41So if you're looking for a better tasting cigarette, better light up the lucky now.
- 1:06:46Okay, here's the Clubhouse chatter.
- 1:06:49Well Gil Hodges still is in a phase from his tremendous life.
- 1:06:53The presence are still coming in, but his little five-year-old daughter Irene wasn't as impressed with the beautiful convertible Gil received,
- 1:06:59or it is the other presence, except the Poodle.
- 1:07:02Irene is just overjoyed with the dog and this made her night very complete.
- 1:07:07Gil has asked us to pass along here some serious thanks to all of you folks for a most memorable night.
- 1:07:14And I thank the Happy Joe Lucky.
- 1:07:17Last of the third, four to one Dodgers, and we'll have Hodges, Amarillo, and Samoali coming on to play Jim Brosnan for Chicago.
- 1:07:25All of the scoring, confined to the person who comes out first on a single double and a ground out,
- 1:07:31the Dodgers got a walk, single, double, double, and single.
- 1:07:35So here we go to the last of the third inning, and for Lucky Strike, here's Fin.
- 1:07:39Gil Hodges got rid of Dave Hillman in the first inning with that line drive back to the mound.
- 1:07:44The old Hillman's finger would be alright, many of you back in action very soon.
- 1:07:48The tough break for him.
- 1:07:50Gil hitting 306.
- 1:07:52Hodges, Amarillo, and Samoali in the third, 4-1 Brooklyn.
- 1:07:56Brosnan delivers in the first pitch on the outside corner for Spike, on one.
- 1:08:01Lucky Strike's sending it all to you.
- 1:08:04We might posh up records and everything else, but there was one thing we can say with a positive mind that we're correct,
- 1:08:10and we'll say it right after Hodges, and that is at bat.
- 1:08:13Strike one pitch, foul to the plate, on two.
- 1:08:17Not many times in his life, as I find out, that I can afford to be positive.
- 1:08:23Right after Hodges has it at bat, we'll make the one true solid statement.
- 1:08:29Silvera got a chunk of that foul, he's just found a...
- 1:08:33...sanded orb right now, I'm trying to forget it.
- 1:08:35Owing through the count to Gil Hodges.
- 1:08:41Silvera taking his time before he goes into his crotch again, right now he's leaning over on his knees.
- 1:08:48Charlie's filled, now he goes down.
- 1:08:51Owing through the count to Hodges.
- 1:08:54Jim Brosnan, the third Chicago pitcher.
- 1:08:57Filman and Kizer preceded him.
- 1:09:00Owing through to Gil.
- 1:09:02Brosnan, to his wind-up now.
- 1:09:04Trawl right-handed delivers, and the fastball is caught on.
- 1:09:07Little pop fly, backing out his pop, speaks the first face-man to make the play for the out.
- 1:09:12And now, we'll make our positive statement.
- 1:09:15This is the Brooklyn Dodgers radio network.
- 1:09:19Dialed 1460 WOKO, Albany, New York.
- 1:09:23WOKO, the Capital District's most talked-about station, with the downtown studios in the Hotel Wellington.
- 1:09:37Sandy Amos, the batter.
- 1:09:39One out on the third inning, 4-1 Brooklyn.
- 1:09:42Sandy Amos doubled on the right-field wall in the first inning, batting 3-0-1.
- 1:09:47Sandy, wigging that bat back of his left ear now, as Brosnan ready and comes to the plate.
- 1:09:53The curveball way high, 4-1, 1-0.
- 1:10:05Brosnan back again, and the curveball drops in and over for the strike, 1-1.
- 1:10:10The end of 3 1.5 innings of play, Milwaukee 4, and the Giants nothing.
- 1:10:14The end of the inning will have a complete rundown of all our scores, pictures involved, and any home runs that might have been hit.
- 1:10:24Brosnan delivers 1-1, the fastball is on the outside corner, Amos starting to run up as if the punt let it go by, and it costs him 1-2.
- 1:10:31Jim Brosnan winds, now the 1-2 pitch, Amos, curveball, low on our side, 2-2.
- 1:10:44Dodges 4 runs, 4 hits.
- 1:10:46Chicago 1 run, 4, 5 hits.
- 1:10:49All the action to place in the first inning.
- 1:10:51Brosnan, Nodgin agreement, now he's ready.
- 1:11:02The 2-2 pitch, Amos, 5, all three.
- 1:11:22Yankees and Cleveland, no score at the end of 3.
- 1:11:24Brosnan delivers 3-2, Amos takes inside ball 4.
- 1:11:35Oh, it's one outstand, he draws a walk, and that will bring up Somoli.
- 1:11:42Somoli, who had been 0-17, picked a fine time to break it.
- 1:11:46He doubled the right field in the first inning.
- 1:11:49Dino batting 3-0-1, picked up 2 RBI's.
- 1:12:01Brosnan looks in to get a sign, Somoli scored away a third of the plate.
- 1:12:05Look over at Amos, the first now that fits to the plate, a little high, ball 1-1-0.
- 1:12:11Tomorrow afternoon, the double header will involve Mo Drabowski and Bob Rush for Chicago,
- 1:12:16and Carlers can definitely in one of the games for Brooklyn.
- 1:12:19Maybe Don Newcomb, and if Don can't go, then either McDevitt or Craze,
- 1:12:24depending upon whether either one would see service in the bullpen today.
- 1:12:32Brosnan ready, looks to Amos, throws over there, Sandy's back.
- 1:12:36The Dodgers will leave for their third Western tip Tuesday morning.
- 1:12:40Fly out of LaGuardia early in the morning on their brand new Dodgers convent head for St. Louis.
- 1:12:45Throw the first in Amos as the swan dives back to the bag, just ahead of the tag by Bob Spick.
- 1:12:54Brosnan shot another look at Sandy.
- 1:12:57Now the 1-0 pitch, blown outside, ball 2 turned off.
- 1:13:024-1, Brooklyn, third inning, 1-out.
- 1:13:20Brosnan just staring in, now Jim ready.
- 1:13:26The 2-0 pitch, fastball cut on is a high pop fly, Bobby Morgan's landing over, Bob Spick going out.
- 1:13:32Morgan still in fair ground, makes the play for the out, and Amos holds on at first.
- 1:13:38Two down here in the third, and the batter will be Randy Jackson,
- 1:13:41who's single a left in the first inning to drive in a run.
- 1:13:44Jackson batting 2-22.
- 1:14:08Charlie still there, holding up 2 fingers on his right hand to keep everybody in the ball game, 2-out.
- 1:14:154-1, Brooklyn here in the third, Jackson waiting at the plate.
- 1:14:21Brosnan set a peek at Amos, who draws a throw now, with 2 out-Sandy's a threat to goal.
- 1:14:28Charlie Neal's throw second in the second inning.
- 1:14:31Brosnan checking Amos, the pitch for the plate, a fastball cut on and missed, 4-1.
- 1:14:41We're out here at the ball park, kinda quiet right now, just sitting back, very relaxed with the dodgers leading 4-1.
- 1:14:47Brosnan set the strike 1-5, they pitch out, Amos not going.
- 1:14:57One ball, one strike.
- 1:15:01It's 4-0, and the Lorky over the Giants at the end of 4, the Dodgers,
- 1:15:04the Braves by one game.
- 1:15:17Brosnan checking Amos, now the pitch, and there goes Sandy,
- 1:15:22the throw down to second baseman, Morgan, they get him.
- 1:15:25So Amos out on an attempted field 2-4 from Charlie Silver to Bobby Morgan.
- 1:15:32The Dodgers go out in the third, no runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left on base,
- 1:15:36and at the end of 3 innings they play Brooklyn 4 and Chicago 1.
- 1:15:40Now to our lucky strike, Skobal at Milwaukee and the Giants,
- 1:15:434-0 Braves at the end of 4 innings, Probridge for Milwaukee, Gomez leads by McCormick in the second,
- 1:15:49and Engel Crandall at his 11th home run, and the third inning with nobody on.
- 1:15:53Philadelphia leading Cincinnati, 2-0 at the end of 2-1.5 innings,
- 1:15:57Jeff Coats released by Trots in the third inning, Jim Herron for Philadelphia,
- 1:16:01Harry Anderson at his ninth home run in the third inning, with a man aboard,
- 1:16:05so the Phillies now lead Cincinnati 4-0 in the third, and they're still at best.
- 1:16:09St. Louis leading the Pirates 7-2 at the end of 5 innings by Camuri Dixon,
- 1:16:14our friend, Nelson King and Arch Quanson for the Pirates,
- 1:16:18Gelendez at his 14th home run in the third inning with two arms.
- 1:16:21American League, the Yankees and Cleveland no scored the end of 3-1.5 chance against Wynn.
- 1:16:27Boston at Chicago, Cisler and Donovan, 1-0 in favor of the White Starks at the end of an inning and a half.
- 1:16:33Washington leading to twice, 1-0 at the end of 2 innings,
- 1:16:36Cameron against Larry, Lamin at home run in the first inning with nobody on his 13th.
- 1:16:42Baltimore at Kansas City because of the time difference, no confirmation yet.
- 1:16:46The Probable pitches, Connie Johnson from Baltimore and Arnold for the Carrero for Kansas City.
- 1:16:52Although they're all the scores we have on our Lucky Psyke scoreboard,
- 1:16:55as we move along in our own ball game to the fourth inning, Brooklyn 4 and Chicago 1.
- 1:16:59Lucky Psyke, delighted to be sending it all to. You are now 4 Lucky Psyke in the play-by-play.
- 1:17:04Here's Jerry Dodgers. Thanks, Ben, ready to go. Bobby Morgan flyed out his first time.
- 1:17:09Don drives down into the lineup and here's the pitch.
- 1:17:13curve ball is outside ball 1.
- 1:17:16Dodgers 4 and Chicago 1, third game of the series, double headed tomorrow at 2 o'clock to wind up the series and the home stand.
- 1:17:24Don delivers fast ball as inside on the corner for a strike and it's 1-1.
- 1:17:36One ball, one strike to Bobby Morgan, Charlie Silvera on deck.
- 1:17:40The fly-on pitch comes in and skipped off the bat and bangs John Roseburr on the right hand.
- 1:17:47And John would be to the ground in a hurry and we'll have a look to see how serious it is.
- 1:17:53Manager Walt Austin and Doc Wimber, the team trainer, come out.
- 1:17:59As Roseburr caught one on the finger of the right hand.
- 1:18:06Now, walking toward the bench and Roseburr, I believe is going to come out of the ball game.
- 1:18:11John got one on the finger and now comes on to the Dodger Doug, out in Roy Campanella, starts to put on the through.
- 1:18:22Well, glanced off the bat and Bobby Morgan and slid off the right hand of Johnny Roseburr and caught him right on the fingertips.
- 1:18:28And Morgan was leaning back from the ball, tried to get his bat out of there and the ball just sticks the bat and then went skittering off into Roseburr's hand.
- 1:18:38Austin, Wimber, Podrick and several others gathered around Roseburr at the bench.
- 1:18:43So he's had two bad fingers here today.
- 1:18:45Picture Dave Hillman got one, a line drive from Hodges right back to him.
- 1:18:50And it's the index finger of the right hand jammed on the foul tips of John Roseburr, getting his right finger jammed on the play.
- 1:19:00So he will leave the ball game and it will be Roy Campanella putting on the catching.
- 1:19:04He's got them now to come on here and take over.
- 1:19:07So Roseburr had quite a night last night and got the starting assignment in the second game behind the play.
- 1:19:13He got another nod today from manager Roy Austin and now has to retire, go play finger injury and Roy Campanella comes on to take over the catcher here in the fourth inning.
- 1:19:32So Roseburr around in camping now comes on to take a few warm-up crosses, get loosened up himself, drives their players down a couple.
- 1:19:40The batter Bobby Morgan with a one-ball-two strike count, nobody out, nobody on top of the fourth inning in a four-to-one game the Dodgers leave.
- 1:19:48At the end of four Milwaukee four and New York nothing, St. Louis seven, Pittsburgh two at the end of four and a half and Philadelphia leads Cincinnati, two to nothing through two and a half.
- 1:19:58All right, Morgan, waiting as the set to play, camping down to give a sign, drives their way into the windup but here's the fix.
- 1:20:04First ball is low and it's ball two, turn two on the batter Bobby Morgan. Morgan hitting two twenty-five.
- 1:20:19Two-two count, guys fell with a look, here's the windup and fix.
- 1:20:24Wide ball hit the right field, back court goes to Mully and this one's going to be off the store board. Keenow has the bounce get away from him, Morgan takes the second now makes the turn, it's going to go for three as Mully has double-picking the ball up, the ball goes, is not in time.
- 1:20:39And Morgan is on with the ball hit off the store board, it's on the way from Mully and Keenow then with the grab the ball and white-fitter field, couldn't find the handle and Morgan goes all the way to third.
- 1:20:53Keenow's going to flip, there's an error stored on it, perhaps a triple all the way.
- 1:20:58So let's store it in a three-miger for Bobby Morgan off the store board in right field and off drive-thales. That is face-up number six.
- 1:21:05But I just have four hits. Two off, three off Keiger and one off Stadter Day-Villman.
- 1:21:18Stadter's Charlie Silvera, cringled his first time, up takes the fast ball in the inside corner, strike one.
- 1:21:23Runner third, Bobby Morgan, a four-to-one ball game and the Cubs now have a scoring threat.
- 1:21:29The Dodgers in field playing back, they'll go for the out-and-give-up to run.
- 1:21:34Curve ball, full on a missed strike two.
- 1:21:37Charlie went all the way around for the change-up curve fired in the drive-thales and the count is nothing in two.
- 1:21:47Dodgers four, Cubs one, top of the fourth inning.
- 1:21:51Young down ready, here's the fix.
- 1:21:54Curve tapped back to the mound, drives the up-clays in on one bounce, holds the runner and lots to show the first to get to the bar.
- 1:21:59One away.
- 1:22:05The picture of Jim Branson do-up, waiting for him to come out now, walks to the batting rack,
- 1:22:12picks up a plastic helmet and makes his way out short home plate.
- 1:22:18The Branson coming on was one out and Bobby Morgan is third base with a triple off the scoreboard.
- 1:22:29Hodges and Gilliam looking to the bench to get a word as to how to play against Branson whether to play back.
- 1:22:35Hodges will play almost in with the bag, now walks back a step or two, rest of the infield about normal depth against the right hand batter.
- 1:22:43Curve ball is going inside ball one.
- 1:22:46Jack to the third, Neal is short, Gilliam a second and Hodges a first.
- 1:22:51Outfield, Ambrose, Niner and Simone, careful not to knock out you.
- 1:22:55And a ball one, Cubs two, Branson swings and misses on a punch ball, one and one.
- 1:23:01One ball, one strike.
- 1:23:13The line has been picked, ball ball after the right and up serve and it's one ball, strike two on Jim Brosner.
- 1:23:26Philadelphia got two more on Cincinnati in the third and now leads the red legs, four to nothing at the end of three.
- 1:23:34Curve ball got him swinging, so Branson strikes out and for Drive-Thru strikeout number three.
- 1:23:41Coming on now will be leader of better Bob Will, that's flat out in Zunda, that and is hitting 240.
- 1:23:55Bob Will, the center fielder left hand batter, Bobby Morgan on third, Gilliam away now, four to one dodging.
- 1:24:06He's got him into the lane, but here's the pitch.
- 1:24:09That's all in the outside corner, strike one, Will had an open check, he's swinging had it called anyway.
- 1:24:14Strike one, Bob Will.
- 1:24:26Drive-thru into the lane, that's the pitch.
- 1:24:29Low with a fast ball, count even, one ball, one strike.
- 1:24:34Double head of tomorrow fans at two o'clock and that'll be the final game to the homestand.
- 1:24:39The Dodgers against the Western Club's right hand outstand, eight and one.
- 1:24:45Since the outside break, all the Western Club's come by and the Dodgers have done very well.
- 1:24:51Here's a foul after the left up-stair, strike two, one and two.
- 1:24:58At the All-Star time, the Dodgers were in fifth place, five games off.
- 1:25:03And winning it out of nine, they've signed the second place, one game behind Milwaukee.
- 1:25:16One ball, two strikes.
- 1:25:18Will waiting, here's the wind-up and take.
- 1:25:21Got him swinging, fast ball.
- 1:25:23And Will goes down, strikes and drives, they'll strike out a pair.
- 1:25:27Got his fourth now and the side we tied with no runs, one hit, no errors and one left on.
- 1:25:33At the end of three and a half and he's applied the score, Brooklyn four and Chicago one.
- 1:25:41And now, Wilson's in.
- 1:25:43Right at this moment, friends, do you have any idea how many smokers across the country are riding up lucky?
- 1:25:56No, I learned you there, cheering. Chances are they bought there in 1957 old from Rose Oldsmobile,

- 1:32:14Dodgers four, Chicago one, top of the fifth inning.
- 1:32:24The pitch is low for a ball and the count goes too soon and Campanella now talking to land in a minute.
- 1:32:29Drysdale came off the mound a few steps to have something to say about that fix might have been a strike.
- 1:32:36Two balls, two strikes on Bob Seat.
- 1:32:46Guys, they're ready, here's the windup and the fix.
- 1:32:49Ground ball to the right side.

- 1:33:57Nothing in through to the Chicago shortstop Ernie Banks.
- 1:34:08Drysdale winds and fires.
- 1:34:10Pile check, Imagrass can't be holds on and banks down on strikes.
- 1:34:15For Drysdale that's five strikeouts.

- 1:34:30Our fan batter, Walsh Morn, is coming on, ground about to drive in and around and singles.
- 1:34:35So he's one for two, hitting 309.
- 1:34:38Bling and a most strike one.
- 1:34:46Bling and one to count, the Walsh Morn, two out, done on for Chicago in the top of the fifth inning.

- 1:35:59what would you think the right answer would be?
- 1:36:02For the look of the beer, for the gold of afternoon sunlight, the joy, whiteness of a bit of a foam,
- 1:36:08for the taste, the rich mellow flavor, the zippy appetizing flavor you don't always find,
- 1:36:13where you'd be right, but more than those things, what they drew beer for most of all is enjoyment.

- 1:38:53The Dodgers of course, hopeful that today they'd get some help from the Giants.
- 1:38:58If the Dodgers win and the Giants win, the Dodgers will take first place from Milwaukee by a percentage point.
- 1:39:06Trailing by one game. Here's the pitch.
- 1:39:09Four on a missed strike three. Neal goes down clean and Jim Brosnan has brought along a strikeout pitch today. He's struck out five now.

- 1:44:54Had to kind of lean away and keep his gloves covering his eyes and casting a shadow and he made the play.
- 1:45:00So Hodges pops out to Morgan in back of second. No runs, no hits, no errors and done left on.

- 1:56:31Gino with one out-and-on, Samoli coming on and the cut's getting very effective relief for Jim Bronson.
- 1:56:41And this might be Jim's last inning.
- 1:56:44He's due to hit in the seventh inning and we now have full-fin activity for Chicago.
- 1:56:49Here's the pitch to Gino, a full-on and disc strike one.
- 1:57:02In the bullpen, Dick's drop warming up for the cut.
- 1:57:09Here's the pitch by Bronson and the curve ball low ball one.
- 1:57:14He even counts one ball, one strike on, Samoli.
- 1:57:28Last ball is full-on and disc first strike, one and two.
- 1:57:32And the drive today of 14,686, 67.58, 2100, 880 and 6,000, not a whole kid.
- 1:57:49One and two, down it comes.
- 1:57:52Nice break called on Gino and a question-don't-buy-it-sand hand is about it.
- 1:57:57Gino put the pitch with a little inside on him and Landers called him out-on strike.
- 1:58:05So for the Chicago pitcher, Jim Bosz, strikeout number six.
- 1:58:15Up now, Randy Jackson has struck out and cradle drove in the run.
- 1:58:20Good arm-fictioning and the Dodgers lead four to one.
- 1:58:23Jackson plays a high-fly to set a field, Bob Will going way back for the from back-back-back and it's in for the center field stand.
- 1:58:30Hold on.
- 1:58:46Randy Jackson gets his first full run of the year, a long high-fly that drops about six rows back into the center field stand straight away.
- 1:58:56And it's now five to one, Brooklyn.
- 1:58:58Good Roy Campanella coming on.
- 1:59:09Jackson on a very good streak since he got back into the lineup.
- 1:59:15Now in seven games, including one appearance of the pink hitter, and that's nine for 20.
- 1:59:25Anthony takes the curve ball for a strike and the catcher is one-on-one.
- 1:59:29So Randy Jackson got his bad knee patched up, back in action and he's playing a big bat.
- 1:59:35Nine hits and let's make that 21 a bat.
- 1:59:38That ball is low and it's two-on-one. Two balls, one strike.

- 2:02:06Chuck Tanner pitch hitting for Silvera hits the foul ball, grounded fast first.

- 2:03:31So Roslyn goes off, he works five-pine innings about one run and one hit.
- 2:03:35That was on Randy Jackson Comer.
- 2:03:37Roslyn walked three and struck out six.
- 2:03:41So the cut-back on the seventh with one arm none out. Fitzsimmons parled away, strike one.
- 2:03:57Nothing in one on Dale Long.
- 2:04:03Drive-Dale delivers a start on low and it's for one strike one.
- 2:04:07One at one, double hundred of our fans don't forget.
- 2:04:11Come on out if you can and see the Dodgers and their parallel appearance before the long western North trip begins.
- 2:04:20One-one count. Here's the pace.
- 2:04:23Upstribe for ball two and it's two-one.
- 2:04:26Say gals when you watch Duffin later on, don't forget to pick up a good supply of those papered quarts for the weekend.
- 2:04:32Papered quarts are handy way to have your shaper on ice.
- 2:04:37It would turn and drop in where you've got a good supply.
- 2:04:43Two balls, one strike. Here's the pace.
- 2:04:47Upstribe, pass ball and it's ball three, strike one on Dale Long.
- 2:04:53From St. Louis next Wednesday and Thursday we're going to have those two games on TV.
- 2:04:57The series opened Tuesday but they went to Thursday games on TV, 8.55 on Channel 9.
- 2:05:04So it's all the games on Dodger Radio Network and the state of York City too.
- 2:05:09Three-one left. Here's the pitch for Long.
- 2:05:12Inside and he's on with a walk.
- 2:05:15Base on balls number two by Don Drive-Dale.
- 2:05:18So the cut's now trying to kick up something here in the last top half of the seventh.
- 2:05:23Two men on and Tanner goes to second base and Dale Long is on his first with a walk.
- 2:05:28Bob Will comes up, he's struck out, fly it out and run it out and the bidding, 237.
- 2:05:39And now Glenn LaBurne is up and throwing and Dodger balls in in right field.
- 2:05:44Five to one. Brooklyn Leeds were playing in the top of the seventh.
- 2:05:47Two on, nobody out.
- 2:05:49And the Dodger in field now comes to double play depth trying to get a pair against Bob Will.
- 2:05:54Bob all his three back to the wire.
- 2:05:58Right one.
- 2:06:00One, two, three, four.
- 2:06:16Right one count, drive Dale out of the straight, check the runners.
- 2:06:19Here's your pitch.
- 2:06:21Far away, right back to the wire.
- 2:06:23Right two.
- 2:06:40Nothing in turn of the card to lead off man Bob Will.
- 2:06:43Long and first base, Tanner is second, two-point hitters that both got on.
- 2:06:48Here's the look by drive Dale in the pitch to the plate.
- 2:06:52Miles Stepp, Miles Camping, broadband, Will holds up there, right two.
- 2:06:56Right two.
- 2:07:14Nothing in turn.
- 2:07:16Now the look drives Dale ready, delivers.
- 2:07:24Bob all his three back.
- 2:07:27So Will getting just the piece of it.
- 2:07:29As the straight two have counted him with Tanner is second base and Long at first base.
- 2:07:35He's got the batting in the seventh inning that Dodgers lead, five to one.
- 2:07:39Hey Lewis nine, Pittsburgh four at the end of seven and a half, fifth and ready five for the rough before at the end of four and a half.
- 2:07:51Drive Dale ready, deal with two pitch.
- 2:07:53Bouncing it to third, Jackson comes up from the back, throws the first base and it's in time for the double play.
- 2:07:59I just hit the floor on a big bounce and got Bob Will for the double play.
- 2:08:03Now before Bob's feet comes our last part for station identification, just as the Brooklyn Dodgers radio network.
- 2:08:11Dial 1460 WOKO Albany WOKO, the capital district most talked about station with downtown studios in the hotel Wellington.
- 2:08:19Now back to the Dodger Cubs game.
- 2:08:22Randy Jackson took that ball just a few steps in the bag, came over and made the fourth out on Tanner coming down.
- 2:08:34And his throw didn't have much on it at the first base, but I just took it on the bounce and still got it in time to double up Will.
- 2:08:40On the play, Lauren goes into second here, Bob's feet get back, two outs, one on.
- 2:08:46Guys Dale now working here in the top of the seventh inning.
- 2:08:49Jackson's runner, here's the pitch. Pops ball moves outside, ball one.
- 2:08:54Left hand batter, Bob's feet.
- 2:09:05One ball, one strike.
- 2:09:07Guys Dale ready? Delivered.
- 2:09:09Round ball to the right side, Gilliam over and the ball passes off through, you'll recover through, not in time.
- 2:09:15Gilliam going into short right field and knocks the ball down and counts off his arm.
- 2:09:21He picked it up and fired at the first base but not in time and Seek is on and an error is charged on Gilliam.
- 2:09:28On the play, Lauren goes to third and holds up there.
- 2:09:36So an error is charged on Gilliam as Ernie Banks comes to bat, he has a double and the struck out twice.
- 2:09:41Seek getting right but Gilliam juggled his ball on the grass and short right field.
- 2:09:51Ernie Banks the batter, hitting 268 with Chicago shortstop.
- 2:10:01Two on, two outs, seventh inning.
- 2:10:03Guys Dale out of a stretch, here's the pitch.
- 2:10:05Pass ball comes in low, ball one.
- 2:10:07Quim LeByn just in the dodger bullpen in right field.
- 2:10:19One ball no strike.
- 2:10:21The look in the pitch, pass ball in for a strike at the knees and it's one and one to Ernie Banks.
- 2:10:27One ball, one strike.
- 2:10:47Guys Dale takes off a couple times, now gets the one he wants.
- 2:10:51One one sixth, curve ball a pile of serve and it's one and two.
- 2:11:03One ball, two strikes.
- 2:11:08Ernie Banks hands in waiting, runners at first and third, long at third and Seek at first.
- 2:11:13Guys, you ready? Here's the pitch.
- 2:11:15Five ball, this is the center field, back court goes to Ernie Banks, back in his scorn.
- 2:11:22Home run for Banks and the center field stands.
- 2:11:36And it's now a five ball ball.
- 2:11:39There's Ernie Banks, this one in the center field seats for a home run to reduce the Dodger League to one run.
- 2:11:46The home run by Jackson, hit it with six innings.
- 2:11:48Up now is Walt Warren, who has cringled once in pre-sign to pass.
- 2:11:53So five to four as the Dodgers lead the cup here in the seventh inning, Warren waits.
- 2:11:59Guys Dale now, steps off.
- 2:12:02Warren, a big left hand batter and the Dodger right fielder is hitting three oh eight.
- 2:12:09Ernie Banks wraps his 19th of the year and drives home two in front of him and puts the cup right back in business.
- 2:12:22The runs are on and the inning was for long when Gilliam Bobbles speaks grounders.
- 2:12:27Warren takes the strike on the outside corner.
- 2:12:36Top of the seventh inning, Brooklyn fires to Cargill four.
- 2:12:43Now go all face-up to the right side.
- 2:12:46Cavalli down on one knee, picks it up and fires it back in and Walt Warren is on and here comes Walter Rolston out now to see about drive sales.
- 2:12:57In the inning for Chicago, Fitzrider center cringled the right.
- 2:13:01Fitzrider longs for a walk.
- 2:13:03Will then banks into double play.
- 2:13:05Jackson through the wedges.
- 2:13:07Seats your life on the air by Gilliam and banks you to home run.
- 2:13:11Warren now after the home run has fought with the swing of the right field and Clem Laban is being called into pitch for the Dodgers.
- 2:13:19For the five fourth score, the tying runner is on base.
- 2:13:23Laban is being called in here to start out a hold on for drive sales.
- 2:13:28In the top half of the seventh inning in the ball game here at Evansfield.
- 2:13:32And despite the fact that the Dodgers hold a nine and one edge over the cup this year, they really have the battle to beat the cup.
- 2:13:40Alright, LaFriana is coming in and as Clem comes on, Allison are running down the state with scoreboard scores.
- 2:13:46And Gilliams are going to be caught on the other game.
- 2:13:48Okay, Al.
- 2:13:49Then on to the number four.
- 2:13:50Alright, John.
- 2:13:51No walking to John to the end of the seventh and a half innings of play is five nothing in favor of Milwaukee over the John.
- 2:13:57Gromit's going for Milwaukee, Gromit, McCormick and Worthington of all picks up off the John.
- 2:14:02It's time for them to come into the pitch home run for the ball game.
- 2:14:05Cincinnati, Philadelphia at the end of five, it is five to four in favor of Cincinnati over Philadelphia.
- 2:14:12St. Louis and Pittsburgh at the end of eight and one half innings of play, it's nine to four St. Louis leading Pittsburgh.
- 2:14:21Over in the American League, the Yankees and Cleveland at the end of five and a half innings of play, it's the Yankees two and Cleveland two.
- 2:14:30Boston and Chicago at the end of five innings, the White Sox are leading the Boston Red Sox three to nothing.
- 2:14:37Parkinson, how are we in the fifth inning at a home run for the White Sox?
- 2:14:41Washington to short at the end of five and a half innings of play, it is Washington three to short one.
- 2:14:46Camera against Flaring, Lemon and Severs, an all-mountain netball game for Washington.
- 2:14:51Baltimore and Kansas City, ball game delayed because of rain, the starting fifth is however just an an ounce.
- 2:14:57Johnson for Baltimore and Arno for the Carrero for Kansas City.
- 2:15:01Well, that's everything up to the minute here.
- 2:15:04All right, Lee Wells coming on and when the fine came in to fix last night in the fifth inning, Wells had his first fix for a home run, so now we'll see what happens.
- 2:15:13Well, he has a fix.
- 2:15:15Last ball is a five ball one.
- 2:15:17Wells today is Washington on the first play and it's right out.
- 2:15:21So he's on for two, the time run is the first base and a five-four ball game here in the seventh inning and the fine now in the release drysail.
- 2:15:29Dine works six and two-thirds innings.
- 2:15:31He had a four run, one earned and nine hits, struck out six, lost two.
- 2:15:36Five-four, Dodgers lead, Wells waiting, LeBron out of a strip, a fix, a five, a ball and the count goes two-nothing.
- 2:15:50LeBron is making his 38th appearance of the year as record as four wins, five losses.
- 2:15:56He earned run average 3.31.
- 2:16:03Two balls, no strikes, Wells waiting, LeBron took in for a strike at the knees and he's earned one.
- 2:16:10Two balls, one strike, two outs, one on.
- 2:16:34Off of the seventh inning, the cup is fourth, three runs here.
- 2:16:42Here's a fix.
- 2:16:44Blue running, that strike two, just clicker fired in by LeBron and Wall goes for it.
- 2:16:48Two and two, they alone is boosting up in the bullpen.
- 2:16:51I see that he's going to go into the lineup.
- 2:16:54He went in for a finch, or as a finch hitter for cross, and he may stay on.
- 2:17:01Here's a turn two, check of the runner, here's the fix.
- 2:17:05The ball, busts through the hole to left field, and it's a base hit.
- 2:17:09The Walls are done with a finger left in the third run, a fast as the second base from the first run of Walls Morn.
- 2:17:15Up will be Jerry Kimbell, two up, but he may not pass.
- 2:17:20Kimbell has struck out thousand nine down.
- 2:17:30Bobby Adams is going to the bat rack, and it's likely he's about here.
- 2:17:34Bobby Adams.
- 2:17:39That's what it'll be. Bobby Adams coming on a finch hit for Kindle.
- 2:17:45Bobby alongside nice for the again fielders.
- 2:17:48Make it eight, and the seventh inning.
- 2:17:52Bobby Adams batting for Kindle.
- 2:17:55So the Cubs have two on Morn as the second Walls as the first, and Kindle has four runs on Fennett.
- 2:18:02So I just have five runs on Fieders.
- 2:18:05Kindle has three in here in the seventh inning, and it's five to four.
- 2:18:10The Giants have scored two on their walk in the eighth, and are still batting, and it's five to two on that one.
- 2:18:16Bobby Adams coming on towards Reef.
- 2:18:20Now picked up from the minor league, from the coast league by the Cubs.
- 2:18:25Bobby, a right hand batter, two men aboard.
- 2:18:31Off of the seventh inning.
- 2:18:34Get to the side and the fifth.
- 2:18:36Now ball to Kershaw. Deal with it.
- 2:18:38Down to second base, and time to the side is out.
- 2:18:41So Adams rolls out to Kershaw from the fourth play on Walls, and tires the side.
- 2:18:46The inning for Chicago, three runs picked up on Forehead.
- 2:18:51One hour, and they left two on.
- 2:18:54North end is six and a half innings of play at the score.
- 2:18:57The Dodgers five and Chicago four.
- 2:19:01Well, a warm day, a warm, safer day.
- 2:19:04How's that going to be about Shaper?
- 2:19:07That'll do, Jerry.
- 2:19:09You know, I'll just take it on a warm day, as you just mentioned.
- 2:19:11The old refrigerator is a mighty useful way to keep your Shaper beer cool and happy.
- 2:19:15They're waiting for you to take it out and drink it.
- 2:19:18The only thing is, if you're going to take it out, you've got to put it in there first.
- 2:19:22And it's a real sad feeling to reach in there and find nothing.
- 2:19:25Just in your throat, screaming for relief.
- 2:19:28Well, the best way I know to keep that refrigerator filled with refreshing Shaper beer
- 2:19:31is to pick up handy Shaper Six pack whenever you're out shopping.
- 2:19:35It will fuck them easy in the store with the gay, colorful seams on the white side.
- 2:19:39You just pick them up with two fingers, they're so light, so easy to have.
- 2:19:43They're easy to store too, thanks to the neat modern design.
- 2:19:47Each one holds six full cans of good Shaper beer.
- 2:19:50And when you want to get out the cans, you just flip open the perforate.
- 2:19:54It's as simple as that.
- 2:19:56The Shaper Six pack.
- 2:19:57Real convenience and real enjoyment, too.
- 2:20:00For those cans of pills with Shaper beer, it's real beer.
- 2:20:22The end of the first half, things are playing, the Brooklyn Dodgers are leading over to Chicago Cup 5-4.
- 2:20:28They have 5 runs on 5, it's Chicago 4-run 10, it's each side is committed in their own.
- 2:20:33And we moved to the last half of the 7th inning.
- 2:20:36If the batter's standing up there right now, waiting to get things started,
- 2:20:40we'll be glim-lap-on, we'll have a new pitcher on from Chicago Cups, and Jerry will tell us all about it.
- 2:20:44Alright now, it'll be just dropped during the pitching,
- 2:20:47they'll arm stays in and batting in the number 9 spot at first base.
- 2:20:51Just Tanner stays in, batting in the number 8 spot, playing in left field,
- 2:20:55and Lee Walls has moved from left field to third base.
- 2:20:59So Walls is a third, and there's maybe another change for Chicago.
- 2:21:06Chicago, number 39.
- 2:21:09We have a new center field at 4 Chicago too, I believe, we'll wait and see.
- 2:21:14Tanner is playing in left, he's fading the game.
- 2:21:17Bob Steeck goes into the outfield, so he's fading the ball, he moved to center field.
- 2:21:22There was a missing link on the scorecard.
- 2:21:26Murphy is scoring with a 6th drop, back to the spot of Kimberl,
- 2:21:30without the pinch hitter, Adam, dropped batting in the number 6 spot.
- 2:21:34Tanner hitting 8, Lang hitting 9, Steeck moves to center field,
- 2:21:38and Bob Will comes out.
- 2:21:47Alright, last of the 7th inning, LeFind steps in.
- 2:21:51He's playing in a fireback for strike 1.
- 2:22:14The new catcher is Jim Penning, and he's hitting the lead off spot.
- 2:22:18Now we got him all in the book now.
- 2:22:21And this batting order for Chicago is really messed up now.
- 2:22:24Ball one to LeFind, and it is one ball, one strike.
- 2:22:29Last of the 7th inning, 6th drop pitching, Jim Penning is going to check in.
- 2:22:34Walls a third, moving from left field, LeFind swings the batting to strike 2, 1 and 2.
- 2:22:41Walls playing third, Tanner stays in and plays in left field,
- 2:22:44Long is playing in first base, stays in, and Bob Steeck moves to the outfield playing center,
- 2:22:49and Penning batsman LeFinds, and he's placing Bob Will.
- 2:22:55And the chance to go in is just 4, and at an e-hand, still batting,
- 2:22:58Black 3 calmed in the fire, and he's out on strike.
- 2:23:02Right guard number 1 for the Chicago pitcher, 6th drop.
- 2:23:08The chance now trailed by 1 run to Milwaukee 5-4,
- 2:23:11and they're still batting in the last half of the 8-1.
- 2:23:16Our score of 5-4, the largest lead batting in the last of the 7th inning, with Charlie Neal coming on.
- 2:23:21Charlie is all for 2.
- 2:23:27Right hander, Dick Schott for Chicago, the wind of him 6th.
- 2:23:31Her ball is in for strike.
- 2:23:35Rock play that Marfengel has last year, he won 13 games and lost 10.
- 2:23:45This year he has 8-8, we believe.
- 2:23:48He's playing a high fly ball on the right field line,
- 2:23:51Walmore in drifting over for it, right in front of the wall, near the line,
- 2:23:54and makes the catch for the outfield.
- 2:23:57Charlie Neal's guys out in zero-eight, and Jim Gilliam comes in.
- 2:24:02The guys decide to knock five all of the last of the 8-1, and they're still batting.
- 2:24:08And there's land scoreboard with him.
- 2:24:12But up a real clear, the guys is coming for 5-8, and still batting.
- 2:24:17Against Bill Orton, which is tied at 5-5.
- 2:24:20Here's Gilliam at 5-5, we're 2 out from the first.
- 2:24:24St. Lawrence, we've picked for today 9-4.
- 2:24:30Gilliam jumps back for 5-4 all in his ball one.
- 2:24:45Here's the 106 by Drock.
- 2:24:47High pop-down on the left side, backing up towards the third base from Lee Wal's.
- 2:24:51Wraiths-Narran takes the catch and the crowd is retired in order.
- 2:24:55The Dodgers go down 1-2-3 before the Saddle, and the 7-1-0 runs, so it's no errors than the left side.
- 2:25:01And at the end of 7, the score is Brooklyn 5 and Chicago 4.
- 2:25:06OK Al.
- 2:25:08Well, I remember friends while the Dodgers are in the West battling to stay in this red hot penadry.

- 2:25:18starting with a four-game series with a giant.
- 2:25:21You have a game to level the field in one New Jersey city, and your tickets are waiting for you right now.
- 2:25:26Order by mail at box 55 Brooklyn 1, New York.
- 2:25:30Or if you wait, drop around to any Dodger ticket office first thing Monday morning.
- 2:25:35If you've been out of town missing all of your exciting baseball,
- 2:25:38plan right now to see your Dodgers in action when they catch back home.
- 2:25:42So, you operate and get your tickets first thing Monday morning.
- 2:25:49You have the seven innings of play, all game is tightened up considerably,
- 2:25:52for Brooklyn 5 runs, 5 hits and 1 error, and now for Chicago 4 runs, 10 hits and 1 error.
- 2:25:57We go to the top half of the 8-th inning with Morgan coming up for Chicago, to face Rem Laban.
- 2:26:02Let's get right back to Jerry.
- 2:26:04OK Al. of the Morgan, Tanner who batted for Silver, and Laura who batted for the pitcher of Brouson,
- 2:26:11for Chicago here in the 8-th inning, and Laban now trying to hold them.
- 2:26:15He closed the winning picture in the first game last night.
- 2:26:19Right now, Fandy Kofak gets up and starts throwing in the voucher bullfin.
- 2:26:23Down in right field, a couple of left-hand batters do it.
- 2:26:26Tanner and then Long.
- 2:26:28So Kofak, turns up.
- 2:26:31Alright, Laban sets the pitch to Bobby Morgan who has 1-for-3 tripled in the fourth inning,
- 2:26:35and then was planted a third.
- 2:26:38And the curve is in for the second one.
- 2:26:46Giant 5, Milwaukee 5, the Giant still batted in the last of the 8-th inning.
- 2:26:51There's the pitch to Morgan.
- 2:26:53Now, playing a foul ball bounced off to the left, it's right field.
- 2:27:09Nothing in field is accounted on Bobby Morgan.
- 2:27:18Now, Laban sets the time.
- 2:27:23Morgan leading off in the 8-th inning, and now, just out of there,
- 2:27:26Laban puts a little more time than Morgan thought he could.
- 2:27:36Cincinnati 5, followed off the fourth, the end of sixth inning to play.
- 2:27:40They still cut off to a four-run lead, but couldn't hold it, so having the doubles now.
- 2:27:46Alright, following the fifth place, two and a half backs.
- 2:27:56There's the line up in the fifth.
- 2:27:58Halfs back, ball one, one and two on Bobby Morgan.
- 2:28:06Final score, St. Louis 9 and 6-for-4, even a prep series.
- 2:28:14Laban ready to deliver.
- 2:28:16Curve ball is way outside, ball two.
- 2:28:18Two and two to lead off Bobby Morgan, leading off in the 8-th inning for Chicago.
- 2:28:23Chuck Tanner hitting 8-th on Deccan Bay alone, hitting in the number nine spot to follow.
- 2:28:37Two and two.
- 2:28:40Here's the fifth.
- 2:28:42Right street calls, backstabbed off the inside corner, and Morgan is out looking for the line,
- 2:28:47strikeout number one.
- 2:28:54The chance settles for those five, and it's all five, five-five, at the end of eight at the polo grounds.
- 2:29:02Here's Chuck Tanner at bat, at the finch hitter in the seventh inning, he rips a single to right field.
- 2:29:08And the bind ready now into the line of 36.
- 2:29:11The marker to the right side, big off to Gilliam.
- 2:29:14Play the first base in time, and it's two up.
- 2:29:21Those two up, two down, will be alone coming on, and the finch hitter in the seventh, he drew a lock.
- 2:29:29The bind has a four and five record on the here, and it's raised 10.
- 2:29:33And the cuts by the way have had some very fine relief pitching today.
- 2:29:39Here's John Kaiser at the command and warm-up, was not too much notice.
- 2:29:44Last for a little ball one, and the first inning was throughout,
- 2:29:47Pratter walked and Hodges at a land drive back to the box that put a finger for Soutter Dave Hillman.
- 2:29:53And then Kaiser came on, took about five minute warm-up passes, and was immediately boxed around by the Dodgers.
- 2:29:58Doubles by Amarosa and Somalia, and the fingers of Jackson for a four-run inning.
- 2:30:03That's then, Rosenhelderman-Jack, except for Homer and by Jackson.
- 2:30:09The count along, one ball, one strike.
- 2:30:13That Homer by Randy is a different player now too.
- 2:30:16Next six, four on a left for Strike Two, one and two on day alone.
- 2:30:29One ball, two strikes, two out to the eighth inning.
- 2:30:34Dodgers lead five-four.
- 2:30:39First ball to that side, ball two, even count now, turned two to day alone.
- 2:30:50Two games tomorrow to wind up the homestand, Dodgers on the road beginning Thursday.
- 2:30:55TV games 1 p.m. Thursday night from St. Louis, 8.55 on Channel 9.
- 2:31:02Pitchers, one on five, just hells the camp and almost five you're tired.
- 2:31:07Long strikes, Rodney Bynes gets the pair on the inning, and Chicago goes down to the eighth with no runs, no hits, no errors, and no less on.
- 2:31:17So at the end of seven of the half-innings, it's Brooklyn five and Chicago four.
- 2:31:21All right Al, how about you friends? You get into the city once in a while.
- 2:31:26You come into New York to see a show, or maybe just bring the wife in for dinner at your favorite hotel and relax a while?
- 2:31:32Well listen, here's an idea. Why not make it a real little vacation?
- 2:31:37Sure, for real enjoyment, stop overnight at your favorite hotel.
- 2:31:40Take a day or two to see the Dodgers play right here at Epic Field.
- 2:31:44That's a show or a movie you haven't seen.
- 2:31:47And maybe some of the sites you've never gotten around to.
- 2:31:50And time for a dinner.
- 2:31:52And you know almost anywhere you stop at New York's finer hotels and restaurants, you'll find that for real enjoyment, they're serving real beer.
- 2:31:59Super beer. Your shapers are available at your favorite eating place, as it is right in your own home.
- 2:32:06So when you step out, don't forget to order shapers.
- 2:32:09For real enjoyment, a cool forming glass of real beer.
- 2:32:13Paper beer.
- 2:32:20Luke's not here will be the first-seller in the last half of the state inning.
- 2:32:22Here we call it the Hodgersman-Lamaro.
- 2:32:25The Dodgers hoping that we'll be the last time they'll have the batter leading the ball game five to four.
- 2:32:29Nick drops the Chicago pitcher, is ready to go, and batter's coming up to the plate.
- 2:32:33And Jerry's ready to go.
- 2:32:35Okay, Al's batter has walked twice, played out once, so there's today and none for one.
- 2:32:41And the Dodgers now trying to get some entrance runs before they go to the ninth inning.
- 2:32:46Nick's batter in waiting.
- 2:32:54Here's the lineup in the fifth spot drop to do.
- 2:32:57Curveball breaks in, post ball runs.
- 2:33:00Double header tomorrow, two o'clock, we hope you can be here.
- 2:33:04And then a once in a road trip.
- 2:33:11Ball on count for Snyder, takes the next pitch lower than ball two.
- 2:33:24And I think out on Snyder,
- 2:33:29Nick drops for Chicago, the fourth Chicago pitcher,
- 2:33:34and the Snyder, Snyder waits.
- 2:33:36Down it comes.
- 2:33:38On the corner for Trikant, it's turn one.
- 2:33:42Two balls, one strike.
- 2:33:53Here's the lineup in the ninth inning.
- 2:34:21Good side of Gershitz, home run number 300 in his major league career, and he now ranks 13th in a side with Seth Ryan.
- 2:34:30And he's two more to tie Roger Hornstein.
- 2:34:33And for Tyler, number 24 on the year, and he's got eight home runs in the last 10 games.
- 2:34:38Boy, that's just as really felt from now on.
- 2:34:42Quick score, Dodgers lead, Hodges takes the last ball.
- 2:34:45Inside ball one.
- 2:34:48Eight home runs in, 10 games for Snyder.
- 2:34:52Just really came to life.
- 2:34:54He's had 24 home runs down, he's second in the league.
- 2:34:58Pure ball is hung on by Kierland, it strikes one, one and one.
- 2:35:03Dodgers six, and Chicago four, here in the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:35:12Here's the one-one-six.
- 2:35:15Quick score on him, one and a half.
- 2:35:18One and two.
- 2:35:20Oh, the Dodgers now six-facets in two home runs.
- 2:35:27That's from that one in the sixth inning, Snyder here in the eighth.
- 2:35:33Here's the one-two-fac.
- 2:35:35The curve is inside ball two.
- 2:35:37Pure and two on Hodges.
- 2:35:39Beyond that, Ketter is standing at Marow.
- 2:35:44Now left in New York, side is five-five, playing in the ninth inning.
- 2:35:48And the Dodgers, of course, pulling for a win for the Giants.
- 2:35:52And wanting to beat the Cubs so they can take over first place, if that happens.
- 2:35:57Ball three on a curve outside, and a free two-count on Hodges.
- 2:36:03Fans and premises will be a hot weekend, so just to make sure you have enough first-clenching safer on hand,
- 2:36:08better pick up a few safer courts. 32 ounces of golden goodness for a ball.
- 2:36:15Liam Ketter on Hodges. High ball straight back.
- 2:36:28Now Milwaukee is made two in the ninth, and now leaves seven to five,
- 2:36:32so the Giants will have to do it again.
- 2:36:36Who just posted from Milwaukee.
- 2:36:39Here's a free two-fac.
- 2:36:41Ball four, and Hodges is on with a walk.
- 2:36:46A big drop, that is, walk number one.
- 2:36:49That will be Sandy Amarosa, who's had a double-jove in a run,
- 2:36:52walked and fouled out.
- 2:36:54So Sandy has won for sure, and is hitting the two-98.
- 2:37:00Six four Dodgers last to be eight, one on one, and Amarosa waiting.
- 2:37:14Six five Rocks, run about the third base drive, and Rocks plays.
- 2:37:19In the first and time, and Hodges goes to second.
- 2:37:22So sacrificed by Amarosa, there's Gil Hodges to second base and brings on Geno Somerle.
- 2:37:29Geno double to drive in two in the first inning,
- 2:37:31and popped out and struck out.
- 2:37:33One for three today, hitting two-89.
- 2:37:47That's an A-five, filled it up, just fourth, the end of sixth.
- 2:37:50Now, Wookie seven, New York five, playing the last of the ninth inning.
- 2:37:58One for three, and the second base drive.
- 2:38:08That ball comes in lower ball one.
- 2:38:24One on count, there's the pitch to Geno, high curve off the shoulder, and this ball to two-nothing.
- 2:38:38Two balls and no strikes on Somerle.
- 2:38:45Got out of a six, and the curve is high for ball three.
- 2:38:53Got this circle down in the bullpen in left field by a round.
- 2:38:58Dodgers one run in, one run on, one run out, and laid 64 the last of the eighth inning.
- 2:39:05There's the look, and the pitch to Geno.
- 2:39:08One on at best first strike, three and one.
- 2:39:11Geno going for the pre-hold pitch, and a cut for the message.
- 2:39:24Three more of one strike.
- 2:39:28Got ready again, but let's go ahead with the pitch.
- 2:39:31Strike two, that's ball three, high on the other side, 20.
- 2:39:45The answer is full count for Somerle, well, that's the second base one out.
- 2:39:49Snotter has a home run this inning, he gives the Dodgers a two run, had six four.
- 2:39:54Here's the pitch, ball ball straight back.
- 2:40:05Full count for Somerle, three and two.
- 2:40:1419-08-ing, six drops to Pataga right-hander.
- 2:40:18Check the signs and catcher Jim Fanny.
- 2:40:20Here's the look in the pitch.
- 2:40:22One strike, ball four, and Somerle is on with the walk.
- 2:40:31Coming on now is Randy Jackson, who's had a single on the home run, has driven in a pair of runs and scored one.
- 2:40:37Jackson hitting a two-thirty-four.
- 2:40:41Coming on here is the last half of the eighth inning.
- 2:40:43Jackson is on second, Somerle on first, who has run out here in the eighth inning.
- 2:40:58Now right-hander, big drop out of a threat.
- 2:41:00Jackson's on it, and the fifth is Jackson.
- 2:41:04One and a big cut, but that's better for him.
- 2:41:06We'll get the Dodgers in, and Bob Steeck picked up by them, and it's now seven to four, a Dodger.
- 2:41:12At Jackson's at the third of the day, a land single in the center, to drive home Gil Hodges in the second run of the inning.
- 2:41:19The bully holds the second base, and before Roy Campanella comes on, we'll follow up on our first-person identification.
- 2:41:25This is the Brooklyn Dodgers radio network.
- 2:41:28Peter Tripp plays the nation's best-selling records every...
- 2:41:32...Dial 1460, WOKOL, beneath the Capital District's most talked-about station with downtown studios in the hotel Wellington, and now back to Brooklyn Dodgers baseball, the Dodgers and the Cubs.
- 2:41:45Bob Stepping at the mound now, and that's going to be all for Big Drop.
- 2:41:49And we're going to have the first round, come on here in the eighth inning.
- 2:41:54They'll become the best Chicago pitcher you've seen in Big Drop where 1-1 1-3 innings have been touched for two runs and have two runners on base drives for them.
- 2:42:05Andy's a last-minute, struck out one and walked two.
- 2:42:09Final score in the Wokie-Beefer Giants, seven to five.
- 2:42:13Well, for Randy Jackson now, ten hits and 22 assists.
- 2:42:17So he got back to action, so Randy's been carrying a hot bat along with Gilliam and Snyder and Harlow.
- 2:42:24The round comes on and Big Drop comes off, and while the change is being made, we'll call in half or run down on the paper scoreboard.
- 2:42:32OK, Al.
- 2:42:33And I just told the post that Milwaukee is beating the Giants seven to five.
- 2:42:37Cincinnati Seminoff at the end of seven, it's five to four, in favor of Cincinnati over the Seminoffians.
- 2:42:43St. Louis, to be a Pittsburgh, nine to four, and at the end of seven innings, it's still tied over in the American League between the Yankees and Creedsons,
- 2:42:51for there's two and two.
- 2:42:53Washington and Chicago at the end of six and a half innings, it's three to nothing, Chicago leading Boston.
- 2:42:58Washington and Detroit at the end of six and a half innings, it is four to three, Washington leading Detroit.
- 2:43:04Baltimore and Kansas City have their ball game starts delayed because of rain, but they've got it underway now.
- 2:43:09But Johnson runs for Baltimore and Porta Carrero, for Kansas City at the end of one innings, there is no score.
- 2:43:16Repeating Milwaukee to beat the Giants seven to five, that's a no.
- 2:43:21Our first round is on, and I'll have to pitch for the Chicago cops in the last half of the state's inning.
- 2:43:27We'll be going to Roy Campanella.
- 2:43:29The score here at this particular moment is seven to run, and seven hits, and one arrow for Brooklyn,
- 2:43:33for Chicago four runs, and hits one arrow.
- 2:43:37The round's about ready to go, Campanella coming up to the plate, so let's get back to Jerry.
- 2:43:41By the hour, campy is called 0-2 today, since he replaced Johnny Roseburger on the fourth inning.
- 2:43:45Roseburger got a five ball, and the Cringin had to be shy.
- 2:43:49The round comes on with two in, two on, one out, dodgers lead seven-four.
- 2:43:54Now, time called as well, and once the Dodgers catcher Jim Fanny, he gets the time to play it out.
- 2:44:01Left handed for the Cubs, Johnny left field, looks to be a little field.
- 2:44:24All right, conference over, back comes Fanny, Campanella waiting, third round, set to go,
- 2:44:31batter's seven at the inning with a home run, Hodgers left, and we're all sacrificed,
- 2:44:34so we're only walking, Jesse's bringing in the score, Hodgers.
- 2:44:38Campy takes it on the corner for a strike one.
- 2:44:43Last of the eight innings, Dodgers seven, the Cubs four, Dodgers trying to make it three straight over Chicago,
- 2:44:50nine out of ten against the Cubs to the west.
- 2:44:57Knuckler is low on his ball one, one on one.
- 2:45:04The only game the Dodgers have lost to the Western Cubs is about seven to three balls in the St. Louis.
- 2:45:10One on all the others here.
- 2:45:14One on count, the look in the face.
- 2:45:17On the corner for a call strike two.
- 2:45:20The man had to give a little of a delayed call last time.
- 2:45:24One of two to Campanella.
- 2:45:37One ball to the side.
- 2:45:41Campy waits, now it's learned that seven here's the pick.
- 2:45:44Our pop-down, the right side, in field five goes on as they are learning to probably Morgan back up for,
- 2:45:50and Morgan makes the play.
- 2:45:52They camp on another pop-down to Morgan, and the batter will be Clem Levine,
- 2:45:56who is up fourth and struck out in the seventh inning.
- 2:46:00So we have Somolian seconds, Jack through on first base, and Levine coming on the back.
- 2:46:06Two out, two on.
- 2:46:32Here's the item set by Lyon, and the look to the runner is fixed to the plate.
- 2:46:36Four on by Levin, strike one. Clem had gone too far around.
- 2:46:40He tried to hold up, but it's crossing for strike.
- 2:46:53Somolian, Jack's on our base, but two out in the eighth inning.
- 2:46:56Two runs in.
- 2:46:58The check again, here's the pick. Inside to me, ball one. One on one.
- 2:47:04On the current streak, the Dodgers have rallied several times, pulled Levin's out of the fire.
- 2:47:10They really caught on, and had a good homestand here against the West up to this point.
- 2:47:16Here's a look to fix the Clem, piled away on the ground, back in the plate, strike two, ball one.
- 2:47:22One ball, good strike.
- 2:47:36Now again the look, and here's the pick.
- 2:47:40Third strike three, Levin, caught looking in the primary charge.
- 2:47:44Both of the Dodgers in the eighth inning, two runs picked up on two bases,
- 2:47:48now the first two left on. At the end of eighth inning's play, it's seven to four.
- 2:47:54The Dodgers over to the top.
- 2:47:56Here's the first one.
- 2:48:00Well you know after nine innings of fumbling out there on the ball field,
- 2:48:02the Bear kind of likes to sit back a while and just relax.
- 2:48:05Well I guess you go for some of the same after you've been working at the job or around the house.
- 2:48:10Well let me tell you, you really enjoy relaxing just for the cool grass and steeper beer in your hand.
- 2:48:16Talking about pleasure, and that's it.
- 2:48:19A glass of golden amber shaper, tall and cool and topped off with a snowy white kind of foam.
- 2:48:24It even looks relaxing.
- 2:48:26And when it comes to flavor, shaper's got it.
- 2:48:29The wonderful light and dusty flavor you want but don't always find.
- 2:48:33Your tea shaper is brewed only of rich barley malt, tangy hops, another fine natural ingredient.
- 2:48:38So next time you're in the mood for some really enjoyable relaxing, do it with shaper beer.
- 2:48:43It's real beer.
- 2:48:55It's the last ball for the Chicago Cubs as they move to the top for the ninth inning.
- 2:48:59Well look, when the seven runs, seven hits one hour, and the Chicago four runs, ten hits one hour.
- 2:49:04Kim Fanning coming up to the plate now as the leadoff man for Chicago.
- 2:49:08Let's get back to Jerry.
- 2:49:10Okay Al, LaBai ready to pitch to him.
- 2:49:13The pitch is four on this strike one.
- 2:49:15Now, while he's got two in the ninths, as we told you to beat the chance, seven to five.
- 2:49:19The winning pitcher, John Stamelmousie, was seven.
- 2:49:22Seven nine ones on the walkie, and five eight and no four in New York.
- 2:49:25And Covington in the home run in the ninth inning was one on the winnings.
- 2:49:29That was his second of the game.
- 2:49:32Here's strike two, five in the fanning, and it's nothing in two.
- 2:49:36Ryan trying to get his 11th save of the year to hold up for Don Drysdale.
- 2:49:40These wins, Dodgers lead seven to four in the ninth.
- 2:49:44Here's the pitch.
- 2:49:46Third ball, cast on the third base, Ryan Powell.
- 2:49:53At the end of seven, it needs to play a serve.
- 2:49:55Fifty-ninety-five, and Philadelphia four.
- 2:49:58Well let's see, the Dodgers by winning, have not seen on St. Louis if they win,
- 2:50:05and they have not seen on the walkie, but they can see on the loser of the Cincinnati, Philadelphia game.
- 2:50:12Those two have been fourth and fifth.
- 2:50:21Ryan ready strikes the chance of fanning.
- 2:50:23Serve outside ball one, one and two.
- 2:50:26Fanning at that, Bob Seacorn, decking in the bank of the shuttle.
- 2:50:39The bind ready, the one-two pitch.
- 2:50:41The serve ball is in and over strike three, and Fanning,
- 2:50:44sat down in the batter's box, trying to get away from the pitch,
- 2:50:47and the serve ball so much that it hit the inside corner of the fanning,
- 2:50:50fell down trying to back up from it.
- 2:50:52And there's Bob Seacorn, the bind ready, and that's that one in there, rolled it off the table.
- 2:50:56Now the bind strikes out number three.
- 2:51:00Fanning was having no part of that one, and it crossed the strike zone.
- 2:51:05Here's Bob Seacorn at that, now he has one hit, four tries.
- 2:51:11So on the ninth, and he went out and on, the bind ready, here's the six.
- 2:51:14Pass ball is outside ball one.
- 2:51:17The bind had a good start, he won three in a row,
- 2:51:22then he lost five in a row, and was ineffective in relief for a while,
- 2:51:25but last night he came on to get a win.
- 2:51:27Here's the ground ball to the right side, one big bounce to Gilliam.
- 2:51:30Play the first stand, that's two outs.
- 2:51:35Ernie Banks coming on, had a double in the first inning,
- 2:51:38and the home inning was seven, then he was two outs.
- 2:51:48Well the fans get up the outs, start turning around, breaking for the eight,
- 2:51:50just figures that I just had a look.
- 2:51:52Seven, four stores, and the top of the man is two outs, and the bind picking to Banks.
- 2:51:58Ernie takes the pass ball for strikes on the inside corner.
- 2:52:10The bind ready, Banks leans in over the plate, and the pass ball is outside ball one.
- 2:52:16Two tomorrow fans, double under, game time, two o'clock.
- 2:52:28One ball, one strike.
- 2:52:32Here's the pick.
- 2:52:34High five out, and left field land, this one can go all the way,
- 2:52:37Emeril backs up, but it's gone for a home run for Ernie Banks,
- 2:52:42and he's second of the day, and it's 20th of the season.
- 2:52:46Banks had one of the sevens at E, and now he gets one here in the ninth inning.
- 2:52:51Well the two runs that I just got in the eighth inning,
- 2:52:54were certainly needed, because that is one number five for Chicago,
- 2:52:58and the Dodgers once beat, leading five to four.
- 2:53:02Banks with his second home run, and he also has a double today, and he struck out twice.
- 2:53:08Warren at bat with a seven to five score.
- 2:53:12Off the bind, run number one, and hit number one.
- 2:53:16Here's the pick.
- 2:53:18Warren takes it outside ball one.
- 2:53:25Banks is driven in four of the five, so they'll run,
- 2:53:29and set up the other one with a double,
- 2:53:32as soon as that speaks to third.
- 2:53:35Warren waits, here's the pick.
- 2:53:38Hot drive, ball two. Two balls, no strikes on last one.
- 2:53:43But of course now, if they just get a base runner, then the fine run comes to bat.
- 2:53:49And if Warren gets on, that would be Lee Walls. Two outs from the ninth, seven to five Dodgers lead.
- 2:53:57Here's the pick.
- 2:53:59Downstrip the first baseline, and the Dodgers make the play, base, the bind, ball game is over.
- 2:54:05And the ninth goes to Chicago, one run, one hit, however, and turn left on.
- 2:54:11So the Dodgers make a three on a roll, but the Cubs winning today, seven to five, with the bind.
- 2:54:15Come in and hold them for down drive there, and the Cays home are taking the loss.
- 2:54:19And now to total them up for here, and give you the final recap. Here's Al.
- 2:54:24All right, Jerry, the Brooklyn Dodger wins, or is Drew done drive there?
- 2:54:28There you go. Drew, seven runs, seven hits, one error, five men left on.
- 2:54:32Four Chicago, five runs, eleven hits, one error. They stranded eight this afternoon.
- 2:54:36The boy takes the out of 6,758.
- 2:54:39The losing fixture started Dave Hillman. His record is now one and seven.
- 2:54:44One wins, and this is his sevens loss.
- 2:54:46Down drive there, he's not picked up his eights win.
- 2:54:49Against six losses, this will be the third time he has seen Chicago from the bind saves, he's 11-4 again.
- 2:54:54And the Dodgers win at 7-5, so they have three of the three that these two clubs have played.
- 2:54:59Tomorrow they'll wind it up for the double-hinter right here at Heavitt Field, first game starting at 2 o'clock.
- 2:55:05We hope you'll be right here with us.
