Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on Relatables. I'm twenty at university and I've
- 0:07Speaker 1: been in kind of a relationship with someone for a
- 0:10Speaker 1: while now. He's forty three, No Relatables. The Relatables podcast
- 0:26Speaker 1: is hosted by myself, Jake Craig aka Daddy, and my
- 0:30Speaker 1: partner in crime, mister Odie Clark aka Mummy. You know,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I justed I've noticed I've never say your middle name. Yeah, No,
- 0:37Speaker 1: I actually really like my middle name Conrad. Yeah. With
- 0:41Speaker 1: the C, I feel like the summer I turn pretty
- 0:44Speaker 1: ruined it a little bit for me. But has he
- 0:46Speaker 1: got an e on the end? Though? I don't know?
- 0:48Speaker 1: I actually don't know.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We should look into that because I would, and Cassie
- 0:52Speaker 2: loves the name, would happily call my son Conrad.
- 0:56Speaker 1: But then it seems a bit eager.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Egotistical is the word I think I'm looking for a
- 1:01Speaker 2: bit egotistical.
- 1:03Speaker 1: You were just egotistical. You wanted to call your kid
- 1:06Speaker 1: Jack Junior. At least mine's the middle name. Hey, But
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm happy to say that that's full blown egotistical.
- 1:11Speaker 2: But I don't want to keep the name going. What
- 1:13Speaker 2: what does it depend on? The place is coming from?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Though yours is coming because you like, like you want
- 1:18Speaker 2: it to be like you're fucking blown. But mine's because
- 1:20Speaker 2: not that it's because.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I like the name. It's actually a good question. Does
- 1:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I feel like it's still pretty egotistical because you could
- 1:30Speaker 2: you could make it funky and say.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Comrade of a k yeah, or could you because I
- 1:35Speaker 1: used to have a dog named Comrad with an M
- 1:37Speaker 1: for mum in the middle.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, But I feel like that's like comrade okay, like
- 1:42Speaker 2: on a walkie talkie like comrade.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Or true, like a comrade is like a friend, like comaraderie, camaraderie. Yeah,
- 1:47Speaker 1: they used to fuck with me. I was like, Comrade.
- 1:50Speaker 1: All I can hear is Conrad. The proof the English
- 1:54Speaker 1: weird can't talk, proof the English language is clapped is
- 1:59Speaker 1: that we have have L M, N, M and N
- 2:03Speaker 1: both exist and they just sound the same. Yeah. I know,
- 2:05Speaker 1: it's pretty confusing.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Honestly, I reckon if I was I was gonna, I
- 2:09Speaker 2: was trying to like give myself a bit of credit.
- 2:11Speaker 2: I feel that the English language is the hardest one
- 2:13Speaker 2: to learn, even as an English natives English speaker. Oh
- 2:18Speaker 2: what it is, twisters, no wonder so many people have
- 2:22Speaker 2: speech impediments is that where I don't even understand why.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We go to English class at school, Like it's the
- 2:27Speaker 1: language we speak, how do we not know it? Why
- 2:31Speaker 1: more English? You're not getting taught English?
- 2:33Speaker 2: I reckon, we got taught Japanese in school, like great
- 2:35Speaker 2: language and all, but I reckon we should be taught
- 2:37Speaker 2: how to like announciate English words better, or.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Do you I remember in Japanese we one of the
- 2:44Speaker 1: assessments was you and a friend had to have a
- 2:46Speaker 1: conversation in Japanese and you were allowed to rehearse it. Like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: but for some reason, we all sucked so bad at
- 2:52Speaker 1: it in my class, at least we all sucked at it.
- 2:55Speaker 1: And so the tea and like everyone that would go
- 2:57Speaker 1: up in front of the class and do it just
- 2:58Speaker 1: like wouldn't stop laughing. And so she was like fuck it.
- 3:01Speaker 1: She goes every single every single person doing the assessments
- 3:04Speaker 1: are just coming out in the hallway and doing it
- 3:06Speaker 1: and directly in front of the teacher. And so everyone
- 3:08Speaker 1: just had to like one whole lesson just wait and
- 3:11Speaker 1: sit there the whole time and just wait until it
- 3:13Speaker 1: was your turn to go out into the hallway and
- 3:15Speaker 1: do your assessment.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It's funny because in school I got dropped to Jake's class.
- 3:19Speaker 2: That's how we became in the same class. I was
- 3:21Speaker 2: in the top class.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Maybe I'll let me just say, let me do the wall.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But the word that dropped dropped to my classes is
- 3:28Speaker 1: a funny one because we actually entered the class at
- 3:31Speaker 1: the same time. I didn't. I were you got dropped
- 3:34Speaker 1: to the class I got put in.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so our school name was King Kombat and it
- 3:38Speaker 2: went like k was the best, I n cum whatever,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and Jake was in I. But I stayed in my
- 3:45Speaker 2: Japanese class for some reason. That was the only class
- 3:48Speaker 2: I didn't change too.
- 3:49Speaker 1: But I thought that none of the classes were graded
- 3:51Speaker 1: apart from like maths. No, they were. I'm pretty sure
- 3:54Speaker 1: they were.
- 3:54Speaker 2: But I think you just stayed with the same class
- 3:57Speaker 2: for like cohesiveness.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I remember Japanese. But do you remember anything? Yeah, do
- 4:01Speaker 1: you remember any of it? No? No, once you start speaking,
- 4:05Speaker 1: maybe I know one thing, go on, hi augumus. That's
- 4:09Speaker 1: all I know. I remember this, assuming Missenna not to
- 4:13Speaker 1: work sign dez. Yeah, I don't remember that. All I
- 4:16Speaker 1: remember is ohiozmos and I remember thinking like, what does
- 4:19Speaker 1: that mean? Not to work sign. It is Hawaii. What
- 4:24Speaker 1: is ohiozamos? Oh? Hello? Oh really I don't know. Yeah,
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. I remember thinking it was the sickest
- 4:30Speaker 1: language because whenever you say something it sounds angry, you
- 4:32Speaker 1: can be like, oh, you just sound so angry. Maybe
- 4:35Speaker 1: it's good morning because I know more. I know, I
- 4:38Speaker 1: know more Indonesian.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So, actually, I've been thinking, actually, in my later life,
- 4:43Speaker 2: I don't do many leisurely things, like for no purpose
- 4:48Speaker 2: of benefiting myself.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I've realized, right, like I try and like.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Do stuff to like optimize is like I grind the gym,
- 4:56Speaker 2: think about think about the podcast, try and get the
- 4:58Speaker 2: podcast better.
- 4:58Speaker 1: That's about my whole life.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I was like, I don't really do anything that, like
- 5:01Speaker 2: I don't know, isn't about benefiting myself. But in a
- 5:04Speaker 2: way this is I was gonna say, I really really
- 5:06Speaker 2: want to start going to like I know they've got
- 5:08Speaker 2: du A Linga and we wanted to get sponsored on
- 5:10Speaker 2: the pod, but like going to an old dude who
- 5:12Speaker 2: teaches me Indonesia and like once a fortnight or something
- 5:15Speaker 2: that that'd be cool, and I feel like it'd be
- 5:17Speaker 2: such such a good thing for my brain too. Just
- 5:19Speaker 2: to use like a part of it that isn't worked.
- 5:22Speaker 1: You should move to a different country for a year,
- 5:24Speaker 1: and we'll just like set up virtual and just do
- 5:25Speaker 1: virtual pods while you're sitting there and just like immerse
- 5:27Speaker 1: yourself in the culture and learn the language.
- 5:30Speaker 2: True, true, true, But I'll start with learning it first
- 5:31Speaker 2: before I go over there, because apparently like deep end,
- 5:34Speaker 2: full on going thrown in the deep end. Apparently I
- 5:36Speaker 2: would go to Indonesia, barley, which everyone speaks English, like,
- 5:39Speaker 2: I'd be fine.
- 5:40Speaker 1: No, you'd have to choose a different country obviously.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's the language I want to learn, I
- 5:44Speaker 2: reckon out of Okay, let's go, let's just say, what's
- 5:46Speaker 2: your top?
- 5:46Speaker 1: What's your second? Man? Fuck a good question if I
- 5:50Speaker 1: had to. Are we talking about moving there? Yeah? Yeah,
- 5:53Speaker 1: let's say you're moving there, and you also wouldn't mind
- 5:55Speaker 1: learning the language England? Yuck? You want to that's crazy? Nah?
- 6:03Speaker 2: I really like Asian countries, but I haven't been too many.
- 6:08Speaker 2: South Korea was cool, but I wouldn't live there.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Japan's honestly up there, I reckon, I mean fair. I
- 6:14Speaker 1: was going to say, in South Korea or Japan, and
- 6:16Speaker 1: but I wouldn't want to live where we went in
- 6:18Speaker 1: South Korea. We just want a soul. Ye, it's just
- 6:21Speaker 1: the city. So it was like Sydney. It felt like
- 6:23Speaker 1: Sydney but bigger. Yeah, exactly.
- 6:25Speaker 2: It was just like like where I feel like everything
- 6:28Speaker 2: the way to describe. So everything was square, Yeah, everything
- 6:32Speaker 2: was square and rectangles their favorite shape over there.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But I'd like to go maybe a bit more like
- 6:38Speaker 1: rural and just spend a year really just like connecting
- 6:42Speaker 1: with the land. That's that's another hard word. Rural. That's
- 6:45Speaker 1: a really hard word. I would say if you didn't. Apparently,
- 6:48Speaker 1: apparently r's and l's are actually really hard for people
- 6:51Speaker 1: of Asian descent to learn. Oh well, I guess people
- 6:53Speaker 1: that natively speak and.
- 6:55Speaker 2: They're really good at rolling the tongue, which I can't
- 6:57Speaker 2: do it all. How they go like, I don't give
- 6:58Speaker 2: me what's the word where they you know?
- 7:00Speaker 1: How they say like, I don't think that's the case.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I actually think you're wrong. No, I'm not the roll
- 7:06Speaker 1: on the tongue. I can't roll ship. I think they
- 7:09Speaker 1: can't roll the tongue. I think that's what you mean.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I'm a hundred because my dad owns owns nos Indonesian, my.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Dad owns Indonesia facts anyway, bad. This is a massive
- 7:23Speaker 1: sidetrack too, a dilemmas episode. Why we love doing these Jake,
- 7:30Speaker 1: with the prompt being, what is it? Should I do it?
- 7:33Speaker 1: Should I do it?
- 7:35Speaker 2: Often a big question on this podcast, and we are
- 7:38Speaker 2: the people to say yes, but also say the hard truth.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It's kind of like should I I guess it's kind
- 7:43Speaker 1: of should I do it? You'll see. There's a bit
- 7:44Speaker 1: of a theme to these.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're doing something a little bit different today.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Jake's reading them all Yeah, yeah, yeah, I chose them.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 2: So I'm unbeknownst unknown anymore more English describing words. I
- 7:58Speaker 2: am in the dark, I am ignorant, ignorant, I am blindfolded, naive,
- 8:04Speaker 2: I am tied up, blindfolded and.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Ready stupid Yeah, stupid one. All right, take it away, Okay,
- 8:13Speaker 1: dilemma submission. But that's what they called this, by the way,
- 8:16Speaker 1: they titled it dilemma of their proper Hi. I need
- 8:19Speaker 1: help because I fear I have become emotionally attached to
- 8:22Speaker 1: a man who was never once given me so, who
- 8:25Speaker 1: has never once given me a clear reason to be
- 8:29Speaker 1: There is this guy I've had this weird, drawn out,
- 8:32Speaker 1: year long, confusing crush thing with for way too long,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and I genuinely cannot tell if there's unfinished business between
- 8:41Speaker 1: us or if I'm just addicted to the ambiguity. Oh
- 8:45Speaker 1: big word, nothing ever fully happens, but also nothing ever
- 8:50Speaker 1: fully ends. Will have moments that feel weirdly intimate, or
- 8:54Speaker 1: he'll say slash do just enough to make me spiral
- 8:58Speaker 1: into thinking maybe there is something there, typically at parties,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and then he'll go right back to acting casual, detached,
- 9:06Speaker 1: or like I imagined the whole thing. And unfortunately I'm
- 9:09Speaker 1: not innocent here either, because I act like I'm chill,
- 9:13Speaker 1: mysterious and above it all. I have also embarrassed myself
- 9:16Speaker 1: plenty once I heard he was into this girl, and
- 9:20Speaker 1: I went through the account of the sorority she was
- 9:23Speaker 1: in and cross referenced every girl with his following. The
- 9:28Speaker 1: worst part is that I can't even fully call him
- 9:31Speaker 1: toxic like my friends do, because that would make this easier.
- 9:35Speaker 1: He's not awful, and he's not even consistently bad enough
- 9:38Speaker 1: for me to hate him. I'm not even a thought
- 9:41Speaker 1: in his mind, but somehow he manages to stay in
- 9:44Speaker 1: my life. In this low effort, high impact way that
- 9:47Speaker 1: keeps me from ever fully moving on with his little
- 9:51Speaker 1: comments that mean so much, like texting me from two
- 9:55Speaker 1: am the next morning after seeing him out at a bar,
- 9:58Speaker 1: or asking me to do girl friend favors as a
- 10:01Speaker 1: joke if he wanted to be with me. Sorry, yeah,
- 10:04Speaker 1: if he wanted to be with me, he would have
- 10:06Speaker 1: by now. And yet every time I'm almost over it,
- 10:09Speaker 1: it comes back to me in a dream or a memory.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Even when he moved away for a half for half
- 10:14Speaker 1: a year and we weren't in close proximity, I would
- 10:17Speaker 1: go periods without thinking about him, and it would come
- 10:20Speaker 1: back to me. At this point, I think I have
- 10:23Speaker 1: been outright rejected. Oh no, she said, I think I
- 10:26Speaker 1: haven't been outright rejected. So it feels like there is
- 10:30Speaker 1: still a chance, even though I don't ever see this happening.
- 10:34Speaker 1: He is leaving and I might never see him again.
- 10:37Speaker 1: What if I just grow up and confess like Conrad
- 10:40Speaker 1: did to Belly at the beach and get awkwardly turned
- 10:43Speaker 1: down in order to move on, Because as much as
- 10:46Speaker 1: I imagined it, I don't think I will ever get
- 10:48Speaker 1: the satisfaction of him being like it was always you.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I thought you knew. So my dilemma is how do
- 10:55Speaker 1: you let go of someone you never dated but absolutely
- 10:57Speaker 1: did enough to alter your rain chemistry. When he came
- 11:01Speaker 1: into my life, I thought he would be a love interest,
- 11:04Speaker 1: but instead he lives in this in between space. And
- 11:07Speaker 1: more importantly, how do I know if I'm sensing unresolved
- 11:10Speaker 1: tension or if I just need to stand up and
- 11:13Speaker 1: destroy any thought of this in my mind? Interesting? This
- 11:18Speaker 1: is very poetic. Yeah, she put this in Chatwood and
- 11:22Speaker 1: just be like, make me sound like a Shakespeare Quite
- 11:25Speaker 1: a lot of things to unpack here, my dear friend
- 11:29Speaker 1: j e O. Malfoy. I don't know why Malfoy sounded
- 11:35Speaker 1: poetic to me. It just kind of sounding good. How
- 11:37Speaker 1: do they talk in Shakespeare? Oh? No, like thy doth
- 11:44Speaker 1: thy damsel needeth the help? Yes, damnsel damsel. Damsel is
- 11:55Speaker 1: in a pickle.
- 11:57Speaker 2: She is caught between a rock and a hard case
- 12:00Speaker 2: that she's her self end.
- 12:02Speaker 1: The damsel is stuck in a jar, brining for a time.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Oh I like that one. Firstly, Okay, let's see if
- 12:10Speaker 2: I can remember everything. First one, sororities have Instagram accounts.
- 12:14Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 12:15Speaker 1: America is a different world. What do you do?
- 12:18Speaker 2: What do they post like fucking blind, blindfolded, like fucking
- 12:22Speaker 2: pissed on?
- 12:23Speaker 1: I don't know what the fuck?
- 12:24Speaker 2: I think that would be more of a men's what's
- 12:28Speaker 2: the man's one called?
- 12:30Speaker 1: So sororities, there's like usually a women's house and a
- 12:35Speaker 1: men's house. Yeah, so they both. Yeah, so like she
- 12:38Speaker 1: she was going and looking in the women's sorority Instagram.
- 12:42Speaker 1: What are they doing? Probably crazy ship. Yeah, they're doing it,
- 12:45Speaker 1: but I don't know if they're posting the crazy shit
- 12:47Speaker 1: on Instagram. They're not.
- 12:48Speaker 2: It's probably just like it's probably a ship for their parents,
- 12:50Speaker 2: like make it seem like it's a normal place.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Yeah. That's just the craziest thing to me that sororities
- 12:56Speaker 1: exist and it's still the thing.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Hey, second thing to break down, How funny is it
- 12:59Speaker 2: we we spoke about Conrad at the start.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I didn't even know. I didn't. I know it's funny.
- 13:03Speaker 1: I didn't read up to that part of the dilemma
- 13:05Speaker 1: when I chose.
- 13:06Speaker 2: It because you brought up your fucking liar. No, I
- 13:08Speaker 2: actually didn't actually brought up my middle name.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Did you subconsciously do it? Because I told you I
- 13:13Speaker 1: didn't read up to that part of the dilemma before
- 13:15Speaker 1: I chose to Jake before we started. This is a
- 13:17Speaker 1: really good dilemma and you didn't even read off of it. No,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I did. I definitely read up to the last paragraph. Yeah,
- 13:24Speaker 1: she said that in the last paragraph, and there's three
- 13:27Speaker 1: four paragraphs and I read the first three. This damnsel
- 13:29Speaker 1: was probably like I shot up and fucking helped me.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Look, honestly, this is tough because like, you never dated,
- 13:36Speaker 2: and then like I guess that should we just treated
- 13:39Speaker 2: as if she did date him, because she did in
- 13:42Speaker 2: her head and that's all that matters. I mean, maybe,
- 13:46Speaker 2: or because you could say the harsh truth. But also
- 13:48Speaker 2: I kind of don't believe that in the fact of like, it.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Should be easy to get over him because you never
- 13:52Speaker 1: nothing ever actually happened. Here's why I kind of think
- 13:57Speaker 1: she should do what she said, and I think she
- 13:58Speaker 1: should go confess everything to him and just see what.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Happens it's true, because there's that little percentage that it
- 14:05Speaker 2: could be true, and then also closure if you're more
- 14:07Speaker 2: likely wrong.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Like because if he denies you, then at least you
- 14:10Speaker 1: have closure, but he doesn't. He doesn't have a Scooby Doo,
- 14:13Speaker 1: what's going on? Surely do you reckon? Though?
- 14:17Speaker 2: Surely you know how Conrad said in the summer, I
- 14:20Speaker 2: term pretty it was always you, Brey.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Was that Conrad or Jeremiah? I don't know one of them.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I feel like he was lying. I feel like he
- 14:29Speaker 1: was just saying that to get her.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Honest Yeah, that's what.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I thought, And it wasn't always her because at one
- 14:37Speaker 1: point he was like, like, she was like a fucking
- 14:40Speaker 1: five and he was like ten. Yeah, it was a
- 14:42Speaker 1: bit older than her.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we can actually help this damnsel a little bit.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So yeah, no, I think what's what's the time period?
- 14:52Speaker 1: I think, like, to be honest with you, like years,
- 14:55Speaker 1: it's crazy. Let's just say a few years.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Being relatable though, I remember, hm, I remember like my
- 15:03Speaker 2: first in quotes.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Love was really really hard to get over because.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Like we've said it so many times, you build up
- 15:09Speaker 2: this false version of them in your head and then
- 15:11Speaker 2: you become obsessed with that a little bit. You don't
- 15:13Speaker 2: actually become obsessed with them, Yeah, which is so normal,
- 15:16Speaker 2: And I guess you've just done it prior to dating,
- 15:19Speaker 2: which is still the same fucking thing. Because I remember
- 15:21Speaker 2: that my partner that that partner was not what I
- 15:24Speaker 2: thought they.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Were hard one. I would say, you like kind of
- 15:32Speaker 1: when you're young, at least from my experience, you it's
- 15:38Speaker 1: I had a boss one time tell me I think
- 15:41Speaker 1: I might have recently broken up with my first girlfriend
- 15:43Speaker 1: at the time, and I had just like told him,
- 15:45Speaker 1: but I think he kind of was just like genuinely
- 15:47Speaker 1: asking how I was, and I was like, yeah, I
- 15:49Speaker 1: was kind of telling him, like why we broke up
- 15:51Speaker 1: and stuff, and he was like and I was like, yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I should have broken up with it a while ago,
- 15:56Speaker 1: and he was saying like, yeah, It's one thing to remember,
- 16:00Speaker 1: is like there's a pretty good chance it's just lust
- 16:03Speaker 1: not love, like you're lusting for this person. And there's
- 16:07Speaker 1: a difference.
- 16:08Speaker 2: And the harsh reality of being older and looking back
- 16:11Speaker 2: in hindsight is when you're in it, it definitely feels like love.
- 16:15Speaker 2: That most of the relationships I experienced anyway was one
- 16:20Speaker 2: hundred percent last.
- 16:23Speaker 1: When I was in it, I thought it was love,
- 16:24Speaker 1: but yeah, of course, yeah, But.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Now in hindsight, I'm like, oh, wait a minute, like
- 16:29Speaker 2: what the hell?
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, And I look, there's like a level of love
- 16:34Speaker 1: in there.
- 16:35Speaker 2: Different versions of love, I guess, and you grow to
- 16:37Speaker 2: love someone differently and more deeply the older you get.
- 16:40Speaker 1: But I think this is a classic case of that
- 16:43Speaker 1: you are thinking about what could have been, not what
- 16:48Speaker 1: there was?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Are you Are you missing out on opportunities because you're
- 16:52Speaker 2: obsessed with this guy too? Because if that's the case,
- 16:53Speaker 2: then I think you should move on and forget about it.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, Like you're going out and.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Beautiful men are coming up to you and saying like, hey, hey,
- 17:00Speaker 2: do you want to fucking go on a day, and
- 17:01Speaker 2: you're like, oh, in your head thinking about bloody Conrad.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Hey, I still I would still absolutely recommend just telling
- 17:09Speaker 1: him the truth and seeing what happens, because there's no
- 17:11Speaker 1: better way to get closure than do it. Yeah, exactly.
- 17:14Speaker 2: And it kind of like I feel like, leave your
- 17:16Speaker 2: pride at the door. I feel like the hardest thing
- 17:20Speaker 2: about having these conversations is you can never get out
- 17:23Speaker 2: truly with how you feel or what you think in
- 17:25Speaker 2: the time because you're thinking like you don't want it
- 17:27Speaker 2: to be awkward like you said, or you don't want
- 17:29Speaker 2: them to think you're crazy, blah la la lah, like
- 17:31Speaker 2: fuck all that shit. Leave it at door, Leave it
- 17:33Speaker 2: at the door and be unapologetically you you know what,
- 17:36Speaker 2: I agree, Ondie, and then fuck him true.
- 17:40Speaker 1: If you can. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:41Speaker 3: At the end, I feel like, yeah, it's cherry on top,
- 17:46Speaker 3: all right, big old cherry, Hey love the party.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Got a bit of a dilemma. So I'm a financial
- 17:56Speaker 1: consultant and so is my boyfriend. And no line of work.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Once you financial consultant, yeah, in our line of work,
- 18:08Speaker 1: once you start building a team and recruiting, you move
- 18:12Speaker 1: up and earned you earn over rides from your associates
- 18:17Speaker 1: on top of your own advisory sales. Okay, sounds a
- 18:21Speaker 1: bit pyramid schemey, but okay. Yeah. AnyWho, he's not keen
- 18:26Speaker 1: on team building and he just wants to focus on
- 18:28Speaker 1: his own. But I have so much aspirations to build
- 18:31Speaker 1: a team, to help people achieve what they can achieve
- 18:35Speaker 1: and eventually promote to be an executive director. But he
- 18:39Speaker 1: is comfortable with where he is now. We've been working
- 18:42Speaker 1: together for about two years now and we're keen to
- 18:45Speaker 1: get a place together. Problem is, houses are like one
- 18:48Speaker 1: to two million at least, so we need heaps of
- 18:51Speaker 1: cash for the deposit and to sort the loan. Here's
- 18:54Speaker 1: where it gets tricky. He's been in the industry for
- 18:56Speaker 1: four years but hasn't really been doing that well where
- 19:00Speaker 1: I've been doing it for two years and I've already
- 19:02Speaker 1: done like five x of what he's done. I've pretty
- 19:05Speaker 1: much sorted my side of the cash already, but he's
- 19:08Speaker 1: still quite far behind. He's honestly amazing and does heaps
- 19:12Speaker 1: for me, and I know he loves me a lot,
- 19:15Speaker 1: but I can't help stressing about the financial side, especially
- 19:18Speaker 1: since our goal is to get the house by twenty
- 19:20Speaker 1: twenty eight. I don't feel right telling him to quit
- 19:23Speaker 1: or change careers. I don't want to control his life.
- 19:27Speaker 1: But at the same time, if this job isn't working
- 19:30Speaker 1: for him, maybe his success is somewhere else question Mark.
- 19:34Speaker 1: The thing is, he genuinely believes what he so, he
- 19:37Speaker 1: genuinely loves what he does, helping clients planning their finances.
- 19:41Speaker 1: All of that. I think what's making it harder is
- 19:43Speaker 1: that I'm super career driven and I've been really working
- 19:47Speaker 1: towards what we both said we wanted, which is having
- 19:49Speaker 1: like three hundred to four hundred K cash saved in
- 19:52Speaker 1: the next two years. I feel like I'm doing everything
- 19:55Speaker 1: i can to get us there, but he's just not
- 19:57Speaker 1: quite on the same pace. So now I just feel
- 20:00Speaker 1: really stuck. I don't want to break up because I
- 20:02Speaker 1: love him, but the money side is always in the
- 20:04Speaker 1: back of my mind. What would you do? Oh, what
- 20:08Speaker 1: would you do? What would you do? Is a good question.
- 20:10Speaker 1: No one ever says that, always say what should I do?
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah, this is like a great dilemma because it's funny
- 20:17Speaker 2: that their financial advisors too, and she's asking about advice
- 20:22Speaker 2: about finances, because in any relationship, platonic friendship or romantic,
- 20:31Speaker 2: dealing with money makes everything hard, really hard. And I
- 20:35Speaker 2: think if you went back and read exactly what you
- 20:37Speaker 2: sent him, I think you could reflect a lot on
- 20:40Speaker 2: what you said, because you said he loves what he
- 20:42Speaker 2: does and he's like, really enjoys helping people, which to
- 20:47Speaker 2: me is worth more than any money. If he's getting
- 20:51Speaker 2: up every day and he's passionate about it. I think
- 20:53Speaker 2: your versions of success are completely different. And your version
- 20:57Speaker 2: of success is making a fuck ton of money. Fair
- 20:59Speaker 2: good on you. But his version of success is helping people,
- 21:02Speaker 2: which is still good in a different sort of way,
- 21:05Speaker 2: and just the byproduct isn't as much money, which I
- 21:08Speaker 2: if I was you liketually said, I wouldn't care at all.
- 21:11Speaker 1: That's his life and he's happy. Okay, I'm pretty similar
- 21:15Speaker 1: to you. The only thing that I would say, I
- 21:18Speaker 1: want to flag is the fact that he has like
- 21:22Speaker 1: they've sat down and have had a conversation saying that
- 21:24Speaker 1: they want to buy a house by twenty twenty eight,
- 21:26Speaker 1: agreed and and she's pretty much got her half already
- 21:29Speaker 1: and he's like far behind. So he's still got two
- 21:34Speaker 1: years three hundred to four hundred k. Like you guys
- 21:38Speaker 1: must be raking it in.
- 21:40Speaker 2: If she's got half and she did it in two years,
- 21:42Speaker 2: like unless you already had heaps of money, like two
- 21:43Speaker 2: hundred k.
- 21:45Speaker 1: That's a good point, Like I wonder so, but maybe.
- 21:48Speaker 1: But so she's obviously like just done a lot better
- 21:51Speaker 1: in that industry, So I assume she actually makes quite
- 21:53Speaker 1: a bit more money and he is less driven to
- 22:00Speaker 1: get to the place where she's at in the same industry,
- 22:02Speaker 1: at the same company. It sounds like they work together.
- 22:05Speaker 1: It's a hard one. You need to probably have a
- 22:07Speaker 1: sit down and just be like it's hard. I see
- 22:13Speaker 1: why you're upset, because if he from the beginning was
- 22:17Speaker 1: like I don't want to like I want you to
- 22:21Speaker 1: know that I love my job, but I love doing
- 22:23Speaker 1: it at the pace I'm doing it, Like if he
- 22:25Speaker 1: was honest from the beginning, like I'm sure he was,
- 22:28Speaker 1: but you guys also obviously sat down and said, let's
- 22:30Speaker 1: buy a house by twenty twenty eight, that would be great,
- 22:32Speaker 1: Like that's a goal of ours. And now he hasn't
- 22:37Speaker 1: done the right things to be at the same pace
- 22:41Speaker 1: as you. That's the issue. Like, I don't think the
- 22:44Speaker 1: issue of him not being as career driven as you
- 22:47Speaker 1: is bad at all, Like you said, his version of
- 22:49Speaker 1: success is just different to your version. The only issue
- 22:52Speaker 1: I see in this whole thing is the fact that
- 22:55Speaker 1: he said he wants to buy a house by twenty
- 22:56Speaker 1: twenty eight, and now he's not the same place as you.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but also I think, like you said, a check
- 23:02Speaker 2: in is needed because like, is he not at the
- 23:05Speaker 2: same place or he's just moving to the place slowly
- 23:09Speaker 2: on his own time, because twenty twenty eight, he could
- 23:11Speaker 2: just be chipping away fifty k, fifty k, fifty fifty
- 23:14Speaker 2: k over four years and that's two hundred k, and
- 23:16Speaker 2: now he's only got one hundred or something, like we
- 23:18Speaker 2: don't know where he's at.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Saving fifty k in a year a lot, you guys,
- 23:22Speaker 1: if you can say fifty k, yes, pretty good. Well.
- 23:24Speaker 2: The hard thing too, is though, like his version of
- 23:27Speaker 2: working is he capped at how much money he could make.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Because it's great in order to have a conversation with
- 23:31Speaker 2: your partner and be like, oh, I would love to
- 23:32Speaker 2: buy a house in twenty twenty eight, and I think
- 23:35Speaker 2: we obviously need four hundred K, But then he's out
- 23:37Speaker 2: here making an eighty k and then she's making one
- 23:39Speaker 2: hundred and fifty k, like, and there's nothing he can
- 23:41Speaker 2: do about it other than join this Pyramids game.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Trure. You know what's actually a good thing to point
- 23:46Speaker 1: out is that that is a bit tricky, right, is like,
- 23:49Speaker 1: so I don't know, I feel like there isn't really
- 23:52Speaker 1: anything wrong with both wanting to buy a house by
- 23:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty eight, but also like he's happy doing what
- 24:00Speaker 1: he's doing. He genuinely loves his job, which but like
- 24:05Speaker 1: he doesn't earn as much as you, and now you
- 24:07Speaker 1: earn I'm assuming quite a bit more because you said
- 24:09Speaker 1: that you five XD what he's done in two years,
- 24:14Speaker 1: So it's kind of like, yeah, there's a bit of
- 24:17Speaker 1: a blurred line in here. I think I don't know
- 24:21Speaker 1: what to do.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah, because I'm thinking too, like if our partners worked
- 24:25Speaker 2: in a bi or a cafe and they made eight
- 24:27Speaker 2: thousand dollars a year, and then I'm like, we said
- 24:30Speaker 2: we wanted to buy a house and you've only saved
- 24:32Speaker 2: forty like, but I'm like, what do you mean? But
- 24:36Speaker 2: then she's also captain earning potential, Like there's a there
- 24:39Speaker 2: is a very blurred line there, and is his cap
- 24:41Speaker 2: because he's doing it in his own way which makes
- 24:43Speaker 2: him happy?
- 24:43Speaker 1: Is that the line? Okay, here's what Okay, she said,
- 24:47Speaker 1: what would you do? Here's what I would do? I
- 24:51Speaker 1: would This is just me, right. I can't speak for Roddie,
- 24:55Speaker 1: and I can't speak for you Baddie that sent this in.
- 24:58Speaker 1: But if I in this particular situation, I would sit
- 25:03Speaker 1: down with my significant other and I would say, look,
- 25:09Speaker 1: two years time is when we said we want to
- 25:11Speaker 1: have a house board, right, I just want to know
- 25:14Speaker 1: if you are definitely planning on getting there or if
- 25:19Speaker 1: you know, like where you're at, because like, I'm definitely
- 25:22Speaker 1: on track. And then if he's like, oh, look, I'm
- 25:24Speaker 1: like not on track, And then you could be like, well,
- 25:27Speaker 1: let's like are you are you happy like this? Like
- 25:29Speaker 1: and if he's happy, like, who are you to say?
- 25:33Speaker 1: Like speed the thing, like speed this up and work harder,
- 25:36Speaker 1: because you know it's like if you really want to
- 25:40Speaker 1: maybe be with the person, you would just extend the
- 25:43Speaker 1: time that you buy the house. Maybe I would.
- 25:46Speaker 2: I would even break down like taking this taking the
- 25:48Speaker 2: right steps into percentages, Like if he's making like a
- 25:52Speaker 2: normal amount of money and he's saving a lot of
- 25:55Speaker 2: percentage of that to get to your goal that you've
- 25:57Speaker 2: talked about, I think that's all that matters, not he's
- 26:01Speaker 2: saving the same percentage of your income. Yeah, and like
- 26:03Speaker 2: you can tell he's trying really hard to do that.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I think that the trying is all the matters. But
- 26:07Speaker 2: if he's making ship money and then he's not even trying,
- 26:09Speaker 2: to say, that's where the problem is. But if he's
- 26:10Speaker 2: trying really hard and he's just not making a lot
- 26:12Speaker 2: of money, I think you're fine. I agree, And I also.
- 26:15Speaker 1: Want to say, like if this is a deal break
- 26:19Speaker 1: Like if you are thinking I kind of want to
- 26:23Speaker 1: break up with him for this, and you're feeling super guilty,
- 26:25Speaker 1: it's super guilty about it. Like I understand why you
- 26:29Speaker 1: feel guilty, but at the same time, like this is
- 26:31Speaker 1: allowed to be a bigger issue for you. Yeah, for
- 26:35Speaker 1: Audie and myself it's not a big issue, and for
- 26:37Speaker 1: him maybe it's not a big issue, or for maybe
- 26:40Speaker 1: you've got friends where it's not a big issue, but
- 26:42Speaker 1: like if it's a big issue for you, like this
- 26:44Speaker 1: is your life.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Yeah, And I was going to say too buying a
- 26:50Speaker 2: house together. Obviously, how long have they been dating? I
- 26:54Speaker 2: don't know, because buying a house together in a relationship,
- 27:00Speaker 2: it doesn't have to be fifty to fifty When you
- 27:01Speaker 2: love someone.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It's hard. It's a hard one, ay, Like that's a
- 27:08Speaker 1: good point.
- 27:09Speaker 2: It's hard because you're in the same career, Like you
- 27:15Speaker 2: can kind of argue that you could make the same
- 27:16Speaker 2: amount of money. But like, when I'm eventually ready to
- 27:19Speaker 2: buy a house with my partner, it's going to be
- 27:21Speaker 2: what can we put up together?
- 27:23Speaker 1: Like what were like that lump sum is us not?
- 27:25Speaker 1: Like see, that's that's the way I see it too,
- 27:27Speaker 1: Like if I have one hundred and fifty K and
- 27:29Speaker 1: Beth has a fifty K, or if she has one
- 27:30Speaker 1: hundred and fifty K and I have fifty K like
- 27:33Speaker 1: the way I see it. So say I'm the one
- 27:35Speaker 1: with more, I have three times the amount she has,
- 27:38Speaker 1: Like if she's putting in all the money she's saved,
- 27:41Speaker 1: we're both putting in everything we have, So we are
- 27:43Speaker 1: putting in fifty to fifty if that makes sense, because
- 27:46Speaker 1: like we're in it for the endgame.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah, at that point, it isn't even a split like
- 27:51Speaker 2: where one entity, there's not fifty fifty, it's one hundred percent.
- 27:56Speaker 2: So I also people see that very differently, especially if
- 27:59Speaker 2: you're going into it. You'm looking at it as more
- 28:01Speaker 2: of an investment prior to like the longevity of it,
- 28:04Speaker 2: because we're very techy there. But my passive advice is
- 28:07Speaker 2: just check in, talk to him, see where he's at,
- 28:09Speaker 2: and it might clear everything up itself.
- 28:11Speaker 1: You never know. Yeah, I wouldn't mind an update on
- 28:13Speaker 1: this one, if I'll be honest with you. So what,
- 28:15Speaker 1: I love that all right? Next to a lemma, Hi boys,
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of the pod and I'm running
- 28:23Speaker 1: in from the UK, I mean year thirteen. Also, sorry
- 28:28Speaker 1: if this is a bit long. I even put it
- 28:30Speaker 1: through chat CHIPPYTI to tidy it up because clearly us
- 28:32Speaker 1: Brits can't even use the language we invented properly. Eh,
- 28:36Speaker 1: we love we love an accountability baddie year thirteen. Does
- 28:39Speaker 1: that mean she's like repeating, No, that's a thing? Oh?
- 28:43Speaker 1: Is that a thing in the UK? Yeah? Year thirteen
- 28:45Speaker 1: is the thing in Australia. Baddie. That just sounded like
- 28:47Speaker 1: you're really dumb. It sounds like you did you twelve
- 28:51Speaker 1: twice because we finished in your twelve. Yeah. She said. Also,
- 28:54Speaker 1: please keep this synonymous because he's secretly a baddie and
- 28:58Speaker 1: also listens what agreen flag, let's go. I need help
- 29:02Speaker 1: because I genuinely can't tell if I've made this whole
- 29:05Speaker 1: situation up in my head or if there's actually something there.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I'm eighteen, and so is this boy. He goes to
- 29:11Speaker 1: private school near me, so I don't see him loads,
- 29:14Speaker 1: but we've built a pretty good friendship. We actually started
- 29:17Speaker 1: off beefing in a group chat, but then it turned
- 29:19Speaker 1: into casual messaging and now we talk pretty much all
- 29:22Speaker 1: the time. We've got the same humor. He's really easy
- 29:25Speaker 1: to talk to, and he's very much a lad's lad
- 29:27Speaker 1: and quite popular ooh ooh. For the past year, he
- 29:33Speaker 1: was in a situationship, and I was basically his therapist.
- 29:36Speaker 1: This is getting worse. Yeah, it is. I knew everything,
- 29:39Speaker 1: including really personal stuff, and he'd always come to me
- 29:42Speaker 1: for advice. It ended because she cheated on him, but
- 29:46Speaker 1: he also admitted to me that he cheated on her
- 29:49Speaker 1: earlier and never told her. And I'm the only person
- 29:52Speaker 1: he's ever told that to. Look, why do you want
- 29:55Speaker 1: to adding that? Girl? Adding that last bit in there
- 29:57Speaker 1: is making like I'm sorry, but you're sliding yourself into
- 30:01Speaker 1: being feeling special that you're the only person that knows that,
- 30:04Speaker 1: but like you know that, and that's insane.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I can imagine this baddie like is like on
- 30:09Speaker 2: a table like mister Burns with her fingers up, going
- 30:12Speaker 2: like yes, I only special, all right?
- 30:17Speaker 1: Because we're so comfortable. Sometimes it feels like the line
- 30:19Speaker 1: between just friends and something else is a bit blurred.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I don't think there's any point in dating right now
- 30:24Speaker 1: because of exams, UNI and fresh as, but I can't lie.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I am very attracted to him and would one hundred
- 30:31Speaker 1: percent hook up with him if the opportunity came up.
- 30:33Speaker 1: I also think if timing was different, I probably would
- 30:36Speaker 1: date him. He has a car and I've literally had
- 30:39Speaker 1: dreams about him picking me up and something happening. He
- 30:42Speaker 1: also plays golf at the golf course on my road
- 30:45Speaker 1: and has told me to meet him there, but we've
- 30:48Speaker 1: never actually hung out one on one. Oh, we've got
- 30:51Speaker 1: a level. We've got a levels in seven weeks, which
- 30:55Speaker 1: I assume is tests, then a whole summer before we
- 30:59Speaker 1: both moved to London. Different unis though, so it feels
- 31:03Speaker 1: like that's the only real chance anything could happen. Also,
- 31:06Speaker 1: he saves my STAPs, which I barely send, and I
- 31:09Speaker 1: always ask why and sorry and always ask why I
- 31:12Speaker 1: don't send more? What the fuck do I do? Love
- 31:15Speaker 1: you guys, anything can happen. What I took away from
- 31:20Speaker 1: that in the UK is such a weird place. Fresh
- 31:22Speaker 1: as we had schoolies it was called as a level
- 31:25Speaker 1: fresh as you took freshes as like a schoolies thing.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, that makes sense, that makes sense. A levels
- 31:31Speaker 1: or whatever she said is atar, I shure, Yeah, well
- 31:35Speaker 1: like ours is called atar.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Like that's weird, like the HC and shit, yeah, okay, okay,
- 31:39Speaker 2: So we got ourselves a young baddie who's in love.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Should I do it? Yeah? I wish you should have
- 31:45Speaker 1: you should have left out that cheated part.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I would have been more sympathetic towards him in young love.
- 31:51Speaker 2: But this is quite this is quite a fun experiment.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Let's put our young eighteen year old hats on and
- 31:56Speaker 2: how we felt in this situation.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Because I remember being excited about like I'm still excited
- 32:01Speaker 1: about my girlfriend, but excited and nervous.
- 32:04Speaker 2: I phrase that dumb about girls, wasn't going to hang
- 32:07Speaker 2: out with him and never hang out one on one
- 32:09Speaker 2: with my crush. And then like I sort of talked
- 32:11Speaker 2: to him, but I sort of don't and in my
- 32:12Speaker 2: head we're hooking up, but then also like he has
- 32:14Speaker 2: no idea, but also we kind of do.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Like it's just so exciting and fun. It is. It
- 32:20Speaker 1: is exciting and fun. Yeah, do you think she should
- 32:22Speaker 1: do it? Here's the thing? Do what fuck him? Why not?
- 32:30Speaker 1: I'm thinking I'm thinking he's a good fuck. I wouldn't
- 32:32Speaker 1: date him. Yeah, he sounds to me like like you
- 32:35Speaker 1: should hook up with him, but you shouldn't, like you know,
- 32:40Speaker 1: she kind of said that too, like I don't think
- 32:42Speaker 1: I could date him right now, but like maybe in
- 32:44Speaker 1: another time I would have, but I do. I am
- 32:46Speaker 1: very attracted to him and I'd hook up with him.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Yeah, And honestly, you would be playing to any boy's
- 32:51Speaker 2: dream if all you want to do is fuck. To
- 32:53Speaker 2: watch out for emotions. We obviously don't condone fucking too much,
- 32:56Speaker 2: but there is a time and a place, especially when
- 32:58Speaker 2: there's last involved.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Well, we don't condone like having sex regularly without putting
- 33:04Speaker 1: a label on it and being like we're friends with
- 33:06Speaker 1: benefits because like come on, yeah exactly, but like, honestly,
- 33:10Speaker 1: this is such a cool opportunity for a young baddie
- 33:13Speaker 1: bit to go up to this guy's obviously going to
- 33:15Speaker 1: say yes if all you want to do is have
- 33:16Speaker 1: sex with him and be like hey, like you want
- 33:18Speaker 1: to hang out, you want to pick me up, and
- 33:19Speaker 1: like we can go see what happens, like like genuinely though,
- 33:22Speaker 1: like you set it in here, like if you had
- 33:25Speaker 1: the chance to look up with him, you would because
- 33:27Speaker 1: you're super attracted to him, but you wouldn't date him
- 33:29Speaker 1: right now because of all the thing's going on. So like,
- 33:31Speaker 1: Kim just just straight up this message him and be like, look,
- 33:35Speaker 1: how does she do it? Just be like I don't
- 33:38Speaker 1: want anything, but I would like you to know that
- 33:41Speaker 1: I'm very open to hooking up. Ooh yeah, like bro,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I would get a bone off. I'm trying to think
- 33:49Speaker 1: of eighteen year old Jake, like you know what I mean,
- 33:51Speaker 1: Like it's immature, but you know you've got to do
- 33:54Speaker 1: these things and and and girl, like you're the one
- 33:58Speaker 1: that is, I guess, in control of the situation, like
- 34:01Speaker 1: you just go out and get what you want, and
- 34:03Speaker 1: you never know, like doing this might just get you
- 34:05Speaker 1: to go out and get whatever you want in life,
- 34:07Speaker 1: like in Gene. Honestly, fuck it, reckon, that'd be so fun.
- 34:11Speaker 1: I remember that like stage two, though I remember vividly.
- 34:14Speaker 1: I don't know how old I was.
- 34:15Speaker 2: It was like I want to say maybe, and we
- 34:20Speaker 2: didn't have the communication skills to say what we're saying.
- 34:23Speaker 2: And I was out with all the boys, and she
- 34:25Speaker 2: like wanted to pick me up and I thought she
- 34:26Speaker 2: was just going to give me.
- 34:27Speaker 1: A lift time.
- 34:28Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, I don't worry about I
- 34:29Speaker 2: don't worry I'll just to stay out. And then I
- 34:32Speaker 2: found out, like a couple of weeks later that she
- 34:33Speaker 2: wanted to fuck that after.
- 34:35Speaker 1: We did it, and I was like I would have
- 34:37Speaker 1: one hundred percent left. Yeah, I would have left I
- 34:41Speaker 1: thought she was.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Just being like nice and asked if I wanted to
- 34:43Speaker 2: left home, because that was asking if she wanted to fuck,
- 34:45Speaker 2: And I was.
- 34:46Speaker 1: Like, what the hell? But if you had the yeah,
- 34:49Speaker 1: there was no insinuation in that. Yeah, exactly. You something
- 34:55Speaker 1: once a major, major thing that I missed when I
- 34:58Speaker 1: was younger. It was just a kiss. To be fair,
- 35:00Speaker 1: I hadn't had sex yet. Oh maybe I had, Yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 1: who cares, doesn't matter. Yeah, but I was. It was
- 35:07Speaker 1: still young enough where like you know, just getting a
- 35:09Speaker 1: kiss from someone was still just like he yeah right.
- 35:14Speaker 1: So year ten formal, Oh yeah, sitting at the table
- 35:20Speaker 1: like yeah, yeah, the girl I went. The girl I
- 35:24Speaker 1: went to the former with actually asked me to go.
- 35:27Speaker 1: She's because she does browns and sit now.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, my girlfriend, My girlfriend goes through it.
- 35:33Speaker 1: No, no, I knew she did. I we we actually
- 35:39Speaker 1: after school like stayed friends a little bit, and like
- 35:43Speaker 1: never ever anything romantic ever happened. But just like if
- 35:46Speaker 1: I saw her in public, lab would say hi and stuff.
- 35:49Speaker 1: But I just remember her at the year ten formal
- 35:54Speaker 1: putting some like lip balm or lip gloss on. Yeah,
- 35:58Speaker 1: And then I was like, I don't even know if
- 36:01Speaker 1: I said anything. I think maybe one of her friends
- 36:04Speaker 1: were like, oh, you know, what's the flavor? And she
- 36:07Speaker 1: said the flavor and I was like, oh cool, and
- 36:09Speaker 1: she goes, oh, you want to try some M and
- 36:11Speaker 1: I was like, nah, that you wanted to kiss you?
- 36:17Speaker 1: But I don't know. I never actually found that out,
- 36:19Speaker 1: but I was thinking, like I remember maybe like a
- 36:21Speaker 1: week or two after it, being like, I don't know,
- 36:24Speaker 1: was she just gonna give me the bottle or was
- 36:26Speaker 1: she gonna kiss me? Like I think what I missed
- 36:28Speaker 1: was an opportunity. Yeah, you did miss an opportunity. And
- 36:31Speaker 1: is this baddie missing an opportunity? I think so? Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 1: I reckon just say to him exactly what maybe you
- 36:38Speaker 1: said to us and be like, yeah, let's just keep
- 36:40Speaker 1: this chill with his friends. We're going to hook up
- 36:43Speaker 1: and be done with it exactly. All right. Last dilemma,
- 36:49Speaker 1: This one is a loos e Okay, okay, okay. The
- 36:53Speaker 1: title is is twenty three years really that big of
- 36:57Speaker 1: an age gap? Oh shit? Yes, yes, fucking we're going
- 37:01Speaker 1: to dive into that, Jake. I don't know if I
- 37:03Speaker 1: want to dive into that. Yehs. Wait wait if you
- 37:06Speaker 1: see twenty three quick maps. If he's over forty six,
- 37:09Speaker 1: that's fucking crazy. I'm twenty at university and I've been
- 37:17Speaker 1: in kind of a relationship with someone for a while.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Now he's forty three. No, we met through a wine
- 37:26Speaker 1: bar in my hometown where I used to sing and
- 37:30Speaker 1: still do when I'm back. What started as just chatting
- 37:34Speaker 1: turned into something deeper, deeper, and now it's hard to
- 37:38Speaker 1: deny how strong it is between us. Before anyone jumps
- 37:42Speaker 1: to conclusions, I'm not naive and I'm not being manipulated.
- 37:48Speaker 1: If anything, We've both been very aware of how this looks.
- 37:51Speaker 1: We've had long, honest conversations about whether it's wrong, whether
- 37:55Speaker 1: it's fair, whether it's sustainable. But the truth is he's
- 38:00Speaker 1: one of the kindest, most emotionally present people I have
- 38:03Speaker 1: ever been with. How many people have been with them
- 38:06Speaker 1: twenty Anyway, it doesn't feel toxic or unbalanced. It feels calm, safe,
- 38:11Speaker 1: and mutual. The complication is we haven't told anyone, not family,
- 38:17Speaker 1: not mutual friends, the reason our lives. People in our
- 38:21Speaker 1: lives just think that we're close. I'm also close with
- 38:24Speaker 1: his family, which makes everything feel both more real and
- 38:28Speaker 1: more complicated. So I guess my dilemma is is something
- 38:31Speaker 1: genuinely wrong or is or just something society is uncomfortable with?
- 38:39Speaker 1: And at what point does an age gap stop being
- 38:41Speaker 1: a red flag and start being a relationship.
- 38:45Speaker 2: Oh okay, I need to watch what I say here.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I will point out very quickly that I personally very
- 38:55Speaker 1: much disagree with this.
- 38:58Speaker 2: I think hard thing to see when you're in it.
- 39:01Speaker 2: It happens all through school, when fucking twenty year olds
- 39:04Speaker 2: start dating fifteen year olds, especially men the type of
- 39:08Speaker 2: forty three year old man to have the mindset to
- 39:12Speaker 2: think that it's okay to talk to a twenty year
- 39:14Speaker 2: old woman is fucking crazy.
- 39:18Speaker 1: But also to claim that you're self aware and understand
- 39:23Speaker 1: how it looks. And I assume admit that it's slightly inappropriate,
- 39:28Speaker 1: more than slightly, but I assume in your position that
- 39:31Speaker 1: you're just saying slightly like to be quote unquote self
- 39:36Speaker 1: aware about those things, but then keep on doing it
- 39:40Speaker 1: is a problem.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like it at all, But also like,
- 39:46Speaker 2: I think, like I should tell you to stop, but
- 39:48Speaker 2: who's to say if she's I know.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Yeah, some people would argue that love is love is.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Love like but the hard thing to see is like
- 39:56Speaker 2: in your if I was this twenty year old baddie,
- 39:58Speaker 2: it's like cool and exciting. He's got his life together,
- 40:01Speaker 2: he's got money, he's talking about the future, and you're taking.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Like three steps ahead really really quickly.
- 40:06Speaker 2: But if you look like look in his shoes, he's
- 40:09Speaker 2: a forty three year old man who's single and he's
- 40:11Speaker 2: talking to a twenty year old woman for some reason.
- 40:13Speaker 1: What is that reason? Because he's fucking creepy. I had
- 40:18Speaker 1: to be said. It had to be said.
- 40:21Speaker 2: He's creepy, like to have the intentions when he first
- 40:25Speaker 2: talked to you, to think you were attractive in that
- 40:27Speaker 2: he would like to pursue that. Have that cognitive switch
- 40:30Speaker 2: is crazy.
- 40:31Speaker 1: To me, Like I just if my dad this, I
- 40:40Speaker 1: would bead my father. Yeah. Like like no, I'm sorry,
- 40:46Speaker 1: but like forty three and twenty this I feel like
- 40:50Speaker 1: can being really mean? But whatever, it's just how we
- 40:51Speaker 1: feel like prove us wrong in the comments cool, Like
- 40:53Speaker 1: I'm happy to take words back that I say. If
- 40:56Speaker 1: you guys can make valid arguments, right, I feel like
- 40:58Speaker 1: we've proven that.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I think the only there's no valid argument. The only
- 41:03Speaker 2: valid argument is that the bad is happy to do it,
- 41:05Speaker 2: which is fine.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good point. Like I guess, you know, arguably,
- 41:10Speaker 1: we'll not arguably like on in a black and white sense.
- 41:14Speaker 1: It's legal. You're of age, you can make your own decisions.
- 41:16Speaker 1: You're an adult, and we want you to be happy.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But all I want to say is, like if my
- 41:26Speaker 1: dad just like started dating someone my age, like, because
- 41:30Speaker 1: that's the age gap. I'm twenty six and my dad's
- 41:32Speaker 1: fifty five, no excuse me, fifty two. He'd hated it
- 41:35Speaker 1: for I said that it's fifty two, so even a
- 41:39Speaker 1: couple years younger than me. And I'm like, Dad, what
- 41:42Speaker 1: are you doing? And he goes, all right, Look, you
- 41:43Speaker 1: just have so much in common, and we can could
- 41:45Speaker 1: be like, no, you don't. The thing is you don't
- 41:46Speaker 1: have so much in common, Like that's the thing is,
- 41:49Speaker 1: Like you don't like you have more in common with
- 41:51Speaker 1: a rock. I'm sorry. Like you guys are in such
- 41:54Speaker 1: different places. Like Dad, you've raised four children. Yeah yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 1: you know, he might have any kids, but it's like dad,
- 42:02Speaker 1: point like literally or I'd be like Dad, when you
- 42:07Speaker 1: were her age, you literally had to call someone on
- 42:12Speaker 1: a landline. Yeah yeah, Like she's never known that, I.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Think, she answered her own question too, because she says,
- 42:20Speaker 2: we haven't told any of our families.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Is a reason you haven't told any of your families?
- 42:24Speaker 2: Yeah, if you want to bring someone home and the
- 42:27Speaker 2: people you love most, your mom, your dad, your brother,
- 42:30Speaker 2: your sister, whatever, you think that they're gonna fucking think
- 42:34Speaker 2: he's weird, creepy and whatever you're thinking, that's the reason
- 42:37Speaker 2: you haven't told him.
- 42:38Speaker 1: There's a problem there, there's a major problem. Like I
- 42:41Speaker 1: again though, like you know how you did like before
- 42:43Speaker 1: when you said, like, the only thing that could convince
- 42:46Speaker 1: us that it's right is if the baddie makes a choice.
- 42:51Speaker 1: She's happy and she says it's okay, Like that's the
- 42:55Speaker 1: only thing.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Yeah, and even but like surface deep deep in it,
- 42:59Speaker 2: it's weird, but also a surface level like you're going
- 43:01Speaker 2: out to dinner and ship people are gonna be thinking
- 43:03Speaker 2: you're going to dinner with.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Your dad one like why do you And you have
- 43:08Speaker 1: to accept that you can't get mad at people. You can't.
- 43:10Speaker 2: But look, at the end of the day, end of
- 43:13Speaker 2: the day, all that matters is it's your life. And
- 43:16Speaker 2: if you're happy, you're happy. But you've just got to
- 43:18Speaker 2: be prepared for like family, is going to think you're weird.
- 43:20Speaker 2: Friends are gonna think you're weird. Outlooker is going to
- 43:22Speaker 2: think it's weird.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Blah la la la la la lah. But if you're happy, happy, Yeah,
- 43:26Speaker 1: if you can overlook all of that, right, then cool
- 43:32Speaker 1: literally more like more power to you. Yeah, I know
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's the thing. You came to the wrong place though,
- 43:41Speaker 1: to get it, to get the advice where it's like
- 43:42Speaker 1: we love is love. Who's gonna suck? Who's going to
- 43:45Speaker 1: get that fucking advice? Fuck knows. I don't know someone
- 43:48Speaker 1: has done it is Yeah, true, I don't see.
- 43:51Speaker 2: My biggest age gap is like, go to past thirty
- 43:54Speaker 2: and forty ten years?
- 43:55Speaker 1: Is my max thirty? Yeah, like if you if you
- 43:58Speaker 1: were twenty eight and he was like forty, I'd probably
- 44:00Speaker 1: be like you look a little little bit weird. But
- 44:02Speaker 1: like it's twelve years, Like I have a actually whoa
- 44:06Speaker 1: hold up? Hold the phone? What now? Wait? So this
- 44:12Speaker 1: is how many years? Was this again in twenty three?
- 44:13Speaker 1: Twenty three? Hey? Hold up, I have a case study.
- 44:17Speaker 1: I have a case study. My cousin was I want
- 44:23Speaker 1: to say, I'm going to say early twenties. I'm pretty
- 44:25Speaker 1: sure she was twenty one though, but early twenties when
- 44:27Speaker 1: she started dating her now husband, also father to both
- 44:31Speaker 1: of she has two children, father to both of her children. Right,
- 44:34Speaker 1: he's been part of the family for a long time. Yeah,
- 44:36Speaker 1: he I believe is I want to say, like fifteen
- 44:43Speaker 1: years older than her. A little bit better still, but
- 44:46Speaker 1: it's still not great. Yeah. I remember. It's like he's
- 44:52Speaker 1: the same age as my auntie who's nearly fifty, and
- 44:56Speaker 1: my cousin is early thirties, so it's not quite twenty years,
- 45:00Speaker 1: but it's like kind of getting up there. And I
- 45:02Speaker 1: remember when I was quite young when I first found out,
- 45:04Speaker 1: and I didn't I have an opinion, I had no idea,
- 45:06Speaker 1: but I remember learning a couple of years later, like
- 45:09Speaker 1: her parents were like what the fuck? But then like
- 45:11Speaker 1: they just accepted it, and like they're still together and
- 45:14Speaker 1: they're happy. Like I like him. I'm happy to admit
- 45:17Speaker 1: it can work. But you just have to have all
- 45:19Speaker 1: the pieces to the puzzle.
- 45:20Speaker 2: And I guess the biggest one in that too, is
- 45:24Speaker 2: what is your mindset towards having kids? Because his clock's ticking,
- 45:27Speaker 2: like not be a maid. Yeah, to be fair, it's
- 45:29Speaker 2: a good point. I will say this as well.
- 45:31Speaker 1: When with my cousin, Like I can't speak for her,
- 45:34Speaker 1: but I think it's like it's pretty it's like sort
- 45:38Speaker 1: of easy to observe at least. So you talk about
- 45:43Speaker 1: being different ages, right, so it's like you're at a
- 45:45Speaker 1: very different place in life than he is, like he's
- 45:46Speaker 1: forty three or twenty one. But in the case of
- 45:51Speaker 1: my cousin, you could argue, like it's easy when you
- 45:55Speaker 1: see it. Like I think even though he was like
- 45:57Speaker 1: fifteen years older than my cousin, they were like mentally
- 46:01Speaker 1: and what's like maturity level was like they were at
- 46:04Speaker 1: the same place in life, which is what they and
- 46:07Speaker 1: so they yeah, and so even though there's like a
- 46:09Speaker 1: fifteen year gap between them, like they've just been at
- 46:11Speaker 1: the same place in life this whole time. So like
- 46:13Speaker 1: when they had kids was just like when she was
- 46:16Speaker 1: ready and he was like also like you know what,
- 46:17Speaker 1: I'm ready, Like I'm nearly fifty, Like we may as
- 46:18Speaker 1: well have a kid, like you know what I mean.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it, And that's if it's bad. He wants
- 46:22Speaker 2: to be because a lot of women as soon as
- 46:24Speaker 2: they turn eight, nine and twenty, I think I.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Would love to be a fucking mother right now, and
- 46:28Speaker 1: to be fair, like why not.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Exactly there's nothing and that's a good thing, but a
- 46:32Speaker 2: lot of But then my girlfriend the opposite has the
- 46:35Speaker 2: mindset of like I need to experience things for myself.
- 46:37Speaker 2: I need to go traveling. I need to learn about myself.
- 46:40Speaker 2: I need another four or five years by myself. And
- 46:42Speaker 2: if you have that long, yeah, there's no wrong way
- 46:44Speaker 2: to do it. But if you have that in you
- 46:45Speaker 2: and you think I need to go travel I need
- 46:46Speaker 2: to do that. I need to find out about myself.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I would say he's not the right man. But if
- 46:49Speaker 2: you're ready to be like start a family and that's
- 46:51Speaker 2: what you guys are talking about.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Then maybe he is the right man. But also look, yes,
- 46:56Speaker 1: his clock's ticking. But like also if you go like
- 47:00Speaker 1: connect on a deepest fuck level, like we'll like are
- 47:05Speaker 1: falling in love, and where you're out in life is
- 47:08Speaker 1: let's say you are like I want to experience the world.
- 47:11Speaker 1: I want to travel, I want to go to Europe.
- 47:13Speaker 1: I want to go to America. Maybe you' from America,
- 47:14Speaker 1: I don't know, but anyway, like I want to do
- 47:16Speaker 1: these things and he's also like that, like he's also
- 47:20Speaker 1: at that place, then like you guys are at the
- 47:22Speaker 1: same place in life. I think that's the biggest like
- 47:25Speaker 1: thing is like when you guys are ready to have
- 47:27Speaker 1: a child, I assume you want to have kids. He's
- 47:29Speaker 1: forty three. Does he have kids? Yeah? Yeah.
- 47:33Speaker 2: It gets tricky too because like it's ambiguous, ambiguous, it's
- 47:37Speaker 2: fucking because like, if you have kids him, do you
- 47:40Speaker 2: want him to be planning footy with his fucking son
- 47:42Speaker 2: when he's twelve and shit because you probably have to
- 47:44Speaker 2: have it soon. Or do you want him to be
- 47:46Speaker 2: like holding a beer and shit and then like watching
- 47:48Speaker 2: his kid play footy when he.
- 47:49Speaker 1: Sees, hey, he might be fit. You never know.
- 47:52Speaker 2: True, true, But then it takes that out of the
- 47:55Speaker 2: equation with normal age differences.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Our manager fifty two, Yeah, that motherfucker is going to
- 48:02Speaker 1: be chilling at sixty. I man to just fit guys.
- 48:05Speaker 2: He looks great, but also havn't and then it gets
- 48:08Speaker 2: in his whole life and all I would my advice,
- 48:10Speaker 2: would you just fucking just think about it, fucking like actually,
- 48:14Speaker 2: fucking don't go into something about things. Just think about
- 48:17Speaker 2: every single possible which you normally don't have to do
- 48:20Speaker 2: too much in a normal age relationship, but just thinking.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Well, yeah, you could just jump into a normal age
- 48:25Speaker 1: one because it's like the societal norm, you know, like
- 48:27Speaker 1: like you said, like in society saying this is bad.
- 48:30Speaker 1: I don't know, it's different. It's just just thinking, I
- 48:33Speaker 1: don't know.
- 48:34Speaker 2: I wouldn't want to fucking have sex with a man
- 48:35Speaker 2: who's fucking forty three twenty three years.
- 48:37Speaker 1: Ouder me he might be a silver fox bro still,
- 48:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I've got a weird debate with that.
- 48:44Speaker 1: But anyway, that's my personal opinion. Yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 48:47Speaker 1: It's it's it's going to come down to a personal
- 48:49Speaker 1: opinion and whatever choice you make, it's the right choice. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 48:54Speaker 1: I hate that advice, but yeah it is. No. All right, badies.
- 48:59Speaker 1: That was it. That was some great dilemmas. I will
- 49:01Speaker 1: give it to you. Should I do it? Fuck? They
