- 0:03Speaker 1: Blue Jay's Great Kevin Polar joining us right now on
- 0:07Speaker 1: FT and you'll see him on some FT stuff coming
- 0:10Speaker 1: soon again. Good to see you, dude. And before we
- 0:13Speaker 1: get to anything else, there are people that are just
- 0:15Speaker 1: going to watch this clip and they want your instant
- 0:17Speaker 1: reaction to the offense of the outburst that you've seen. Man,
- 0:21Speaker 1: what the heck's going on here? And I know we've
- 0:23Speaker 1: seen a lot of this during the season, but are
- 0:25Speaker 1: you surprised that they've put up more runs in the
- 0:27Speaker 1: first two games of the playoffs for them than any
- 0:29Speaker 1: team ever?
- 0:32Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, surprised, a little bit surprised. But the atmosphere,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I mean, it's hard to not be extra motivated playing
- 0:39Speaker 2: in Toronto. I mean I can't even describe the scene
- 0:42Speaker 2: on game one, the scene on game two, but they
- 0:45Speaker 2: came out swinging it. You know, they're trying to make
- 0:47Speaker 2: a statement and they made a statement.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Hey KP, what was What was it like? I mean,
- 0:54Speaker 3: you're talking about the atmosphere, and what I want to
- 0:56Speaker 3: know is what was it like? Because if you watched
- 0:57Speaker 3: that Vladimir Guerrero Grand Slam yesterday, it was almost like
- 1:00Speaker 3: he knew what was happening. He took a two zero
- 1:02Speaker 3: change up. It was like he was just sitting there
- 1:05Speaker 3: waiting for that ninety eight in and he did not
- 1:07Speaker 3: miss it. When he hit that ball in the I
- 1:09Speaker 3: don't know if it was the second or third deck
- 1:10Speaker 3: out there in left field. That place was as loud
- 1:13Speaker 3: and as crazy as I've seen a baseball stadium in
- 1:15Speaker 3: a long time.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's probably the second loudest I've ever
- 1:19Speaker 2: heard it aside from Jose Batista's you know, batflip game,
- 1:22Speaker 2: but it was very similar. I mean, it was like
- 1:25Speaker 2: this crazy build up. It was so loud. He took
- 1:28Speaker 2: the pitch, you know, it was really loud, and then
- 1:30Speaker 2: there's this moment where it just gets really silent. Right
- 1:32Speaker 2: as the pitch is coming in, you hear the sound
- 1:35Speaker 2: of the bat and then it just explodes. And then
- 1:39Speaker 2: it went on forever and ever and ever, and it
- 1:42Speaker 2: was one of the best scenes that I'd seen in
- 1:43Speaker 2: baseball in a long time. That and you know what
- 1:46Speaker 2: they did for trey Ya Savage when he came out
- 1:48Speaker 2: of the dugout. Both curtain calls were just electric. I mean,
- 1:51Speaker 2: the decibel levels were, you know, into the one tenth.
- 1:54Speaker 2: It was just insane. And you know from first pitch,
- 1:57Speaker 2: there was a little moment there when they got up
- 1:59Speaker 2: a little bit and it turned into a little bit
- 2:02Speaker 2: of a party there. You could tell people like, we're
- 2:04Speaker 2: able to exhale and just kind of enjoy the game
- 2:06Speaker 2: a little bit. Boujas did a great job of just
- 2:09Speaker 2: trying to get some guys in the game that you know,
- 2:11Speaker 2: maybe hadn't pitched in the bull in the playoffs yet,
- 2:14Speaker 2: trying to keep guys fresh in the bullpen. The Yankees
- 2:17Speaker 2: did a good job of getting a little bit of
- 2:18Speaker 2: momentum maybe for game tomorrow, but ultimately it was just
- 2:22Speaker 2: a dominating two days performance by the Blue Jays.
- 2:26Speaker 4: What'd you say from Tredy Savage? Were you able to
- 2:28Speaker 4: see like field level from him? Because from TV level
- 2:33Speaker 4: it looks like it looks like a creative player.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Dude, It's crazy. I mean, I didn't get a chance
- 2:41Speaker 2: to go down there on field level. I was up
- 2:42Speaker 2: in the prex at the press box. Eventually I went
- 2:45Speaker 2: down to the sports Net booth, which is in left
- 2:48Speaker 2: center field, right near where Gladdy hit his home run.
- 2:51Speaker 2: They have some better TV set up there, but I
- 2:54Speaker 2: needed to watch it from like a fans perspective at home,
- 2:57Speaker 2: because I just couldn't make sense of how awful the
- 3:00Speaker 2: swings were on all of it pitches. I've never seen
- 3:04Speaker 2: a pitching performance like that, especially from a twenty two
- 3:08Speaker 2: year old kid with three starts. And the bigger story
- 3:12Speaker 2: going into it was what he said going into that
- 3:14Speaker 2: start is he was built for this moment. And I'm
- 3:17Speaker 2: thinking this could go one of two ways. Either this
- 3:20Speaker 2: kid really knows he's built for the moment or he
- 3:22Speaker 2: put his foot in his mouth. But after what I
- 3:24Speaker 2: saw yesterday, it's got to be one of the best
- 3:27Speaker 2: pitching performances I've ever ever seen. You know, live KP.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I mean, you're super fresh out of the game. You
- 3:34Speaker 1: were playing baseball earlier this season in the major leagues.
- 3:38Speaker 1: How do you prepare for someone so unique like that?
- 3:41Speaker 1: There was some news about how the Yankees loved the
- 3:44Speaker 1: traject system, which many teams use to simulate pitches as
- 3:48Speaker 1: a pitching machine. Right that simulates the arm angle and
- 3:52Speaker 1: the pitch spin velocity, et cetera. They can't bring that
- 3:55Speaker 1: on the road, and they didn't have time to prepare
- 3:57Speaker 1: for that with you Savage as they went three games
- 3:59Speaker 1: with Red Sox. Do you think that would have helped.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Or is this dude just so nasty and so different
- 4:04Speaker 1: that the first time you see him for an opposition
- 4:08Speaker 1: it's really difficult.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt in my mind it would have helped.
- 4:12Speaker 2: But I mean, this was one of my talking points
- 4:15Speaker 2: a pregame is you could only do so much to
- 4:18Speaker 2: prepare for a guy. You have the traject, you have
- 4:21Speaker 2: the spreadsheets, you have the video. I gave an example
- 4:24Speaker 2: of Opening Day this year. I was facing Garrett Crochet.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I was at home. I knew I was facing him
- 4:28Speaker 2: for a whole week. I watched all the video, we had,
- 4:31Speaker 2: all the meetings, I had all the information, I had
- 4:34Speaker 2: the projects. Nothing prepared me for what I actually saw
- 4:37Speaker 2: when I got in the box. And I was saying
- 4:39Speaker 2: it was going to be a challenge for the Yankees hitters,
- 4:42Speaker 2: at least the first time through the order. I felt
- 4:44Speaker 2: like they were gonna be a little bit more passive.
- 4:46Speaker 2: They needed to actually pick up that funky arm action,
- 4:49Speaker 2: and they need to see some pitches off of him,
- 4:51Speaker 2: try to pick up that release point. They could have
- 4:55Speaker 2: had anything and everything. I don't think anything was going
- 4:58Speaker 2: to prepare him for what they got. Yes, today, KP.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Worrying about Trey's outage. Just it's so different. I said,
- 5:07Speaker 3: It's kind of like remember Josh Colementer, I don't know
- 5:09Speaker 3: if you played against him or FaceTime kind of threw that.
- 5:13Speaker 3: He kind of, but he threw eighty five. This guy
- 5:15Speaker 3: throws ninety five plus with a nasty split. Clementer was like,
- 5:18Speaker 3: you know, kind of the high fastball before it was
- 5:20Speaker 3: cool when he had a little change up, But this
- 5:22Speaker 3: dude is legit ninety five plus with that split finger.
- 5:25Speaker 3: I don't know that I've ever seen anybody, and I
- 5:27Speaker 3: don't care what machine you have until you actually step
- 5:29Speaker 3: in the box and see it. You saw the Yankees
- 5:33Speaker 3: had no answer for especially his split fingers. It's probably
- 5:36Speaker 3: the best split finger I've seen a guy throw in
- 5:38Speaker 3: a long long time.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, as you know, I mean I'm recent
- 5:42Speaker 2: out the game, you're not that far removed. I mean,
- 5:45Speaker 2: stuff is stuff. Everyone has great stuff. It's like what
- 5:47Speaker 2: really separates guys at you know, at this level, you're
- 5:50Speaker 2: splitting hairs when you do get a guy with the
- 5:53Speaker 2: uniqueness of Trey Savage, the uniqueness of like a Garrett Crochet,
- 5:57Speaker 2: that's what makes him super elite and Obviously, this kid
- 6:00Speaker 2: has the intangibles too. He has the confidence, he has
- 6:03Speaker 2: the belief in himself. He was able to kind of
- 6:05Speaker 2: control his heartbeat. You know, we were sitting there was
- 6:07Speaker 2: a big conversation, you know, locally here about when when
- 6:12Speaker 2: John Schneider came out and announced him as a Game
- 6:14Speaker 2: two starter, and you know, there were some people kind
- 6:17Speaker 2: of you know, second questioning that, you know, he's twenty
- 6:20Speaker 2: two years old, if he built for this moment three
- 6:24Speaker 2: major league starts, and from a player's perspective, I kept
- 6:28Speaker 2: trying to remind people they're not putting him in there
- 6:31Speaker 2: because of his stuff. They know the type of human being,
- 6:34Speaker 2: they know the type of competitor. There's a reason they
- 6:36Speaker 2: brought him up earlier in this year. It was for
- 6:38Speaker 2: this moment. They knew who they were getting when they
- 6:40Speaker 2: drafted him, that he was built for moments like this,
- 6:43Speaker 2: and he went out and proved it yesterday.
- 6:46Speaker 1: FT fam, let's talk about Superpower. Eric Kratz is a
- 6:50Speaker 1: proud Superpower customer, and he's going to give us more
- 6:52Speaker 1: of the personal experience. But I'll just start it with this.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You ever go to the doctor and the Doc's just like, oh,
- 6:57Speaker 1: drink more water. Are you looking for more data, more
- 7:00Speaker 1: of a game plan. Superpower does that for you. They
- 7:03Speaker 1: give you the experience that athletes get with teams.
- 7:08Speaker 3: LA.
- 7:08Speaker 5: The lab results came back for me. Now it's streamlines everything.
- 7:12Speaker 4: That I kind of had an idea of, but now
- 7:16Speaker 4: it really lets me focus on the things that I'm
- 7:19Speaker 4: deficient in, the things that I'm that I that I
- 7:21Speaker 4: have good, good lab test results from, and I could
- 7:25Speaker 4: go in that direction.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I want to go nutritional guidance, supplement suggestions, you name it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: There's so much more info to check out at superpower
- 7:33Speaker 1: dot com and you can lock in the special one
- 7:36Speaker 1: hundred and ninety nine dollars price while it lasts. After
- 7:38Speaker 1: you sign up, they're gonna ask you how you heard
- 7:39Speaker 1: about them. Mention ft to support the show. Your biology decoded,
- 7:44Speaker 1: your blueprint activated with Superpower.
- 7:48Speaker 4: The amount of runs that have been scored, I get it.
- 7:51Speaker 4: Two teams that score a lot of runs. But seeing
- 7:54Speaker 4: some of the balls that were flying out Ernie Clement
- 7:57Speaker 4: front footing, one handing a ball, do you feel the
- 8:00Speaker 4: ball is traveling different? And if they have to come
- 8:03Speaker 4: back to Toronto and the roof is closed, does that
- 8:07Speaker 4: change it? Or is there is it just the playoff
- 8:10Speaker 4: adrenaline that's making some of these balls go out?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Man, I mean the conspiracy theorist. I mean to say
- 8:17Speaker 2: the balls are a little bit different too, But I
- 8:19Speaker 2: mean the roof being opening was definitely a big factor.
- 8:21Speaker 2: It was a conversation. It was something that, I mean,
- 8:24Speaker 2: the weather could be any better here, so thankfully that
- 8:26Speaker 2: they opened it up. But there was a back and
- 8:28Speaker 2: forth between Major League Baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays,
- 8:32Speaker 2: you know, kind of begging them for it to be
- 8:34Speaker 2: open because the weather was so nice. But if you
- 8:36Speaker 2: would have asked anyone who that potentially would have favored,
- 8:40Speaker 2: people would have shit the Yankees. You know, that's a
- 8:42Speaker 2: team that's kind of reliant on the home run, a
- 8:44Speaker 2: little bit more slug a little bit more than the
- 8:45Speaker 2: Blue Jays. But yeah, I mean the joke was with
- 8:49Speaker 2: the Ernie Clement home run. I was like, if you
- 8:51Speaker 2: only had to hit it in ninety three or ninety four,
- 8:53Speaker 2: maybe I could have played a little bit longer to
- 8:54Speaker 2: get one out. But it's the Blue Jays. Just I mean,
- 9:01Speaker 2: I'm almost at a loss for words, you know, I
- 9:04Speaker 2: think what the hitting coach is is and that's kind
- 9:07Speaker 2: of I think the X factor kind of behind the
- 9:08Speaker 2: closed doors. I haven't yet to had that conversation with him.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I ran into him in the hallways, but I really
- 9:15Speaker 2: kind of want to know, Like, you know, the culture
- 9:17Speaker 2: has completely changed here. Guys had bought into kind of
- 9:20Speaker 2: playing old school baseball, like being tough outs, being okay,
- 9:25Speaker 2: you know. I think we always talk about trying to
- 9:27Speaker 2: be so perfect in the batter's box, and it's so
- 9:29Speaker 2: difficult to be perfect. I think what they've done a
- 9:31Speaker 2: good job is, here are your strengths. If you're going
- 9:34Speaker 2: to chase, chase in the area of those strengths, don't
- 9:37Speaker 2: chase somewhere where you're not going to be able to
- 9:38Speaker 2: like handle the ball or do some damage. But every
- 9:42Speaker 2: guy that goes up to the play has a very
- 9:44Speaker 2: distinct plan of passing it to the next guy, making
- 9:47Speaker 2: it harder on the picture to get you out, and
- 9:50Speaker 2: with some mistakes are made as you continue to just
- 9:53Speaker 2: wear out pictures, mistakes are made. And the Blue Jays
- 9:56Speaker 2: did a really good job of getting guys on base
- 9:59Speaker 2: and making it really tough to pitch around. Those top
- 10:02Speaker 2: four guys in their lineup are the ones that really
- 10:04Speaker 2: slug in their lineup kind of like AJ mentioned, you know,
- 10:08Speaker 2: that at bat goes completely different if there's a base
- 10:10Speaker 2: open and you're facing facing Vladie there. But he got
- 10:13Speaker 2: into a two oh count. He took that two oho
- 10:15Speaker 2: change up, and he was looking for one pitch and
- 10:17Speaker 2: he got that pitch and didn't miss it.
- 10:19Speaker 5: KP.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Hold up, did Crats just say that the Blue Jays
- 10:22Speaker 3: are juicing the ball somehow or the Major League Baseball
- 10:24Speaker 3: change because now I.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Think, no, not you, not you, I said, Crats, Crats.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I think Krats just accused the Blue Jays of not
- 10:31Speaker 3: using the humidor or I don't know, maybe using cork bats.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I'm not sure, Crats, is that what you said, because
- 10:36Speaker 3: I swear you said, like if you could hit a
- 10:37Speaker 3: ball ninety two or whatever it was that, uh the
- 10:40Speaker 3: man what you could still play?
- 10:43Speaker 2: Said, I would still be playing that I could get
- 10:45Speaker 2: away with ninety three hit. But you know, you guys
- 10:49Speaker 2: all played in the postseason. Liked adrenaline too, though adrenaline
- 10:53Speaker 2: is a crazy thing, like you know, but you know,
- 10:57Speaker 2: talking about that play too, where you know, the the
- 11:00Speaker 2: margins in those games are so fine in the playoffs,
- 11:03Speaker 2: and like the difference in Ernie Clement like having the
- 11:07Speaker 2: ability to you know, feel like he can get the
- 11:10Speaker 2: ball in the air to any part of the ballpark.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Was really Aaron Judge kind of missed playing that ball
- 11:14Speaker 2: down the line. Instead of it being a double, it's
- 11:16Speaker 2: a triple. You know, those little you know things that
- 11:19Speaker 2: happen in playoff games, you know ultimately changed, like the
- 11:22Speaker 2: outcomes of games. You know, you get that runner at
- 11:24Speaker 2: second base, maybe a guy like Ernie Clements asked to
- 11:26Speaker 2: kind of bump there or have a good team at
- 11:29Speaker 2: bat and move the ball the other way. The fact
- 11:30Speaker 2: that there was a runner at third base there, you
- 11:33Speaker 2: know he could be ultra aggressive on that curve ball
- 11:35Speaker 2: and just knowing he had to get the ball up
- 11:37Speaker 2: in the air. You know, that wasn't a swing where
- 11:39Speaker 2: he was trying to hit a home run. He just
- 11:41Speaker 2: did a really good job of staying through the baseball,
- 11:44Speaker 2: getting the ball in the air, spun it the right way,
- 11:46Speaker 2: and got rewarded with hitting home run. But maybe that's
- 11:49Speaker 2: more about the roof being open and you know, the
- 11:51Speaker 2: wind blowing a little bit. But just one through nine,
- 11:55Speaker 2: they're just such a tough at bat.
- 11:58Speaker 3: By the way, I tell you where the balls aren't
- 12:00Speaker 3: and maybe they need to close the roofs in Seattle.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I don't know if you saw the games out of here,
- 12:04Speaker 3: but the first game, I think it was the JP
- 12:07Speaker 3: Crawford hit wh like one fourteen with twenty eight degree
- 12:10Speaker 3: launch angle in the in the outfielder caught it, not
- 12:12Speaker 3: even on the warning track, So I don't know if
- 12:14Speaker 3: it's Marine layer.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Maybe they need to close the roof in Seattle because
- 12:16Speaker 5: the ball ain't going nowhere in Seattle.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a It was a big discussion too,
- 12:21Speaker 2: Like earlier when I was playing in Texas that early on.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Historically that lade as a hitters ballpark, but guys were
- 12:28Speaker 2: complaining about the same stuff. You know, guys are good
- 12:31Speaker 2: at understanding like exit velocity and trajectory launch angle. You know,
- 12:37Speaker 2: it should be a home run most of the time,
- 12:38Speaker 2: and guys were not getting rewarded in Texas. And then
- 12:41Speaker 2: we looked it up and you know, Texas was a
- 12:44Speaker 2: top five worst place to hit, but number one in
- 12:46Speaker 2: baseball with Seattle. So they need to figure out something
- 12:49Speaker 2: there because over the recent history there's been a lot
- 12:52Speaker 2: of players that have come in there as free agents
- 12:55Speaker 2: and they have a really bad year so there's there's
- 12:57Speaker 2: something with how big the stadium a marine layer, but
- 13:01Speaker 2: that's a place that really needs to get rid of
- 13:03Speaker 2: the humid ord reward guys for hitting the ball one fourteen.
- 13:06Speaker 2: He should be rounding the bases celebrating with his teammates. Instead,
- 13:10Speaker 2: it's just an f eate.
- 13:13Speaker 4: What do you think the clubhouse feeling is about the
- 13:15Speaker 4: comments that were made from both sides throughout the year?
- 13:19Speaker 4: Michael Kay earlier saying the Blue Jays aren't a first
- 13:22Speaker 4: place team, and more recently Buck Martinez is saying very
- 13:27Speaker 4: good team because of X, Y and Z. What do
- 13:30Speaker 4: you think the clubhouse feeling is on that? Because Aaron
- 13:33Speaker 4: Boone commented on it, so it's clearly being heard.
- 13:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I was more concerned about the recent comments that
- 13:42Speaker 2: Buck Martinez made and motivating the Yankees. You know, thinking
- 13:47Speaker 2: back to the year I was with Atlanta and we
- 13:50Speaker 2: won that big game too, and things that come out
- 13:54Speaker 2: about Orlando Arcia, you know, kind of poking fun at
- 13:58Speaker 2: Bryce Harper. You know, it was it got blown up.
- 14:01Speaker 2: It wasn't that big of a deal, but it became
- 14:04Speaker 2: bulletin board material and the player Bryce Harper was and
- 14:09Speaker 2: then the player he was after being that little extra
- 14:12Speaker 2: motivated was really the biggest difference in the series, and
- 14:16Speaker 2: I was very concerned for the Blue Jays and the
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yankees using that as extra motivation. I think the other
- 14:24Speaker 2: way around. I think the stuff that Michael kay had
- 14:27Speaker 2: said was, you know, so far removed that you know,
- 14:31Speaker 2: you could use it as motivation a little bit, But
- 14:33Speaker 2: it wasn't you know, today's news. I thought today's news
- 14:36Speaker 2: was going to really wake a sleeping giant. The fact
- 14:39Speaker 2: that Aaron Boone commented on it meant that not only
- 14:42Speaker 2: did he hear it, but his players had heard it.
- 14:44Speaker 2: But you got to be careful in these situations. You
- 14:48Speaker 2: don't want to give the other team extra motivation. But
- 14:51Speaker 2: on that note, this is where I was kind of
- 14:52Speaker 2: thinking last night, with everything that happened, I was in
- 14:55Speaker 2: a very similar situation the Yankees were in. When I
- 14:58Speaker 2: was with the Blue Jays here in two thousand, team
- 15:00Speaker 2: we lost both games and ultimately we came back and
- 15:04Speaker 2: won that series. I'm thinking how the media is playing
- 15:07Speaker 2: a factor in this. When I was with Toronto, still
- 15:10Speaker 2: the sense from the media was not that it was
- 15:14Speaker 2: over by any means, but there was still kind of
- 15:16Speaker 2: this motivational. They left this window open for us a
- 15:18Speaker 2: little bit. I'm wondering what it's like being in the
- 15:22Speaker 2: New York Yankees clubhouse yesterday after going down O two
- 15:25Speaker 2: and just knowing how difficult the media can be in
- 15:27Speaker 2: New York. If they're able to kind of come back
- 15:31Speaker 2: from this, that's kind of the thing I'm going to
- 15:33Speaker 2: look forward to getting to New York tomorrow, kind of
- 15:36Speaker 2: listening and kind of navigating, you know what it said,
- 15:40Speaker 2: what's kind of the feel in the Yankees clubhouse and
- 15:43Speaker 2: if they're able to really come back from this.
- 15:46Speaker 5: KP who are the best athletes on a baseball field.
- 15:52Speaker 2: The shortstop and the center fielder typically.
- 15:55Speaker 5: Okay, because I was gonna say catcher, because I saw.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Two first pitches this weekend from the Blue Jays. One
- 16:01Speaker 3: of them was money from a catcher in Russell Martin,
- 16:04Speaker 3: and one of them from an outfielder couldn't make it
- 16:07Speaker 3: that far. So I don't know what happened to your
- 16:09Speaker 3: arm in the last you know, nine to ten months,
- 16:12Speaker 3: but the fact that you can't throw a first pitch
- 16:14Speaker 3: actually is kind of embarrassing for the foul Territory family
- 16:17Speaker 3: because we've all done them and we've all thrown strikes,
- 16:20Speaker 3: and then there's this.
- 16:22Speaker 5: Like what happened?
- 16:26Speaker 2: What happened? Was? I was, you know, let me tell
- 16:31Speaker 2: you something. Let me tell you something. I'm gonna step
- 16:33Speaker 2: back real quick, right. I just got done. I just
- 16:36Speaker 2: got done playing. I'm walking around the stadium. Everyone's like, man,
- 16:41Speaker 2: you look great. You could still play. And I just
- 16:44Speaker 2: wanted to remind everyone there's a reason I got released,
- 16:47Speaker 2: and there's a reason even though I look like I
- 16:49Speaker 2: could play, I can't do it anymore. And I was
- 16:51Speaker 2: just I was letting everyone know I was. I was.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I was closing the door. I was. I was closing
- 16:55Speaker 2: the earbook. I'm letting everyone know I don't got it anymore.
- 16:59Speaker 2: I may look the part, but I can't play. So
- 17:03Speaker 2: is it as embarrassing as it was? I'll tell you
- 17:07Speaker 2: I've never been so damn nervous in my whole life.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I'll be honest with you. I was. I was like
- 17:13Speaker 2: I had known about it for a week and I
- 17:15Speaker 2: was like, really excited to do it. I did the show,
- 17:18Speaker 2: I watched Russ do it, and honestly, I was a
- 17:20Speaker 2: little bit pissed that Russ just fired one in there
- 17:22Speaker 2: like he had been playing his whole damn life like
- 17:25Speaker 2: he had never stopped playing right. And then I'm down
- 17:28Speaker 2: in there, they do this whole thing. I walk out
- 17:30Speaker 2: and I mean, it was a top ten moment in
- 17:33Speaker 2: my life going out there. But I get on the mound,
- 17:35Speaker 2: my legs are shaken. The baseball feels like a balloon,
- 17:39Speaker 2: like it's got no weight to it, and I'm like,
- 17:41Speaker 2: if you know, maybe I can just float it in there.
- 17:44Speaker 2: But damn, yeah, it was. It was a little embarrassing.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It was a little embarrassing. I'm not gonna lie.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Our playoff coverage for the next few weeks is all
- 17:52Speaker 1: presented by Fox One shout out to them and the
- 17:56Speaker 1: new app and streaming service where you can get yourself
- 17:59Speaker 1: a seven day free trial at foxwe dot com. So,
- 18:02Speaker 1: for example, if you're like, I don't have anything else
- 18:05Speaker 1: but I want to watch the playoffs, then you can
- 18:08Speaker 1: watch AJ and Adam and Adam do their game, and
- 18:11Speaker 1: then eventually obviously the CS and the World Series as well.
- 18:17Speaker 1: All you AJ, We're gonna watch you even if we can't.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Right geot, we were in commercial. I was like, well,
- 18:24Speaker 5: I didn't realize this was live. I know, Sorry, this
- 18:26Speaker 5: is the commercial.
- 18:29Speaker 3: You get MLB obviously in the playoffs, because Fox rules
- 18:32Speaker 3: MLB playoffs. I think you get Big Noon, which is
- 18:35Speaker 3: their big college football show.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I don't know if you can get the NFL on there,
- 18:38Speaker 5: but yeah you did.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Oh well, then how do you not have Fox one?
- 18:42Speaker 3: I have Fox one. I watch it all the time.
- 18:44Speaker 3: I need to watch a game. People are complaining they
- 18:46Speaker 3: couldn't find the game. If you have Fox one there
- 18:48Speaker 3: it is boom, It's easy.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I mean, it's all about how you start your day,
- 18:53Speaker 4: and you clearly showed us just now. If you want
- 18:56Speaker 4: to have success, you're not starting your day off well,
- 18:58Speaker 4: make your bed one time. This isn't We're not We're
- 19:01Speaker 4: not on the MLB network here. This is foul territory.
- 19:04Speaker 4: Get your bed in order as soon as you wake up.
- 19:07Speaker 4: It looks trash.
- 19:08Speaker 5: That is trash.
- 19:10Speaker 4: And then you want to throw on a first pitch strike.
- 19:11Speaker 2: All right, rookie, Hey, did you also when you threw
- 19:14Speaker 2: out your first pitch were you were in full you
- 19:16Speaker 2: were in full tucks, full full suit attire.
- 19:19Speaker 4: I was gonna say, you're it looked like a European
- 19:21Speaker 4: cut on your tucks because fight.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It was tight. It was tight. You know that. The
- 19:26Speaker 2: joke I kept telling everyone is, you know, I never
- 19:30Speaker 2: got my signing day, I never got draft day, So
- 19:32Speaker 2: like wearing the suit with the jersey over is like, yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 2: I finally made it. I finally made it. That's what
- 19:37Speaker 2: it That's what it looks like. But yeah, that thing
- 19:39Speaker 2: was tight. I'm not gonna lie those joggers. That's a
- 19:44Speaker 2: tailored suit, my friend.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Wow, so embarrassed.
- 19:51Speaker 5: People will have a talk about suits on the air,
- 19:54Speaker 5: and well.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I can do another questions. Hey, I have a question
- 19:57Speaker 2: for you, And obviously we're in much different positions in
- 20:00Speaker 2: terms of media, but I can't go I can't find
- 20:04Speaker 2: it within myself to go inside the clubhouse. How long
- 20:07Speaker 2: did that take you to kind of feel and your
- 20:09Speaker 2: responsibility is a little bit different than mine, but you know,
- 20:13Speaker 2: I feel like I can't cross that line yet. How
- 20:16Speaker 2: long does it take you to feel like you should
- 20:20Speaker 2: go in there? You know you feel comfortable going in there.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I listen, I've been doing this for a long even Listen,
- 20:26Speaker 3: I was doing this when I was playing KP and
- 20:29Speaker 3: twenty eleven was the first time I did this, and
- 20:31Speaker 3: it was we're in the postseason and we're in the Tigers.
- 20:33Speaker 3: We're in the playoffs and I'm doing the Tigers, and
- 20:35Speaker 3: I was in the Al Central. I'm going in there
- 20:37Speaker 3: having meetings with Jim Leland, who manages the Tigers, and
- 20:40Speaker 3: I'm playing against the nineteen times a year, and he's
- 20:42Speaker 3: given me secrets and I look at him. I go, hey, hey,
- 20:45Speaker 3: humperting his nickname, like hey, huh, you know that I
- 20:48Speaker 3: still play right, and goes, yeah, You're too stupid to
- 20:50Speaker 3: remember anything I say anyway, so don't worry about it, right,
- 20:53Speaker 3: And then I walk in there and I'm justin Verlander
- 20:55Speaker 3: and Migi Cabrera, all these guys who I just played
- 20:57Speaker 3: twenty times a year before, and they were looking at me.
- 20:59Speaker 3: And to this day, I tell people this all the time.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It's still awkward as hell for me to walk into
- 21:03Speaker 3: the clubhouse. Not because I don't know the guys, because
- 21:07Speaker 3: because of Foul Territory, I'm very fortunate. I get to
- 21:08Speaker 3: know a lot of these guys and they know me
- 21:10Speaker 3: from Foul Territory and from Fox.
- 21:12Speaker 5: But it's still awkward. Like I'm like, I'm.
- 21:15Speaker 3: In here and I have to do it, but I
- 21:16Speaker 3: also am like, can we get out of here? I
- 21:19Speaker 3: just need to talk to one person. It's like I
- 21:20Speaker 3: want to just get out.
- 21:21Speaker 2: I want to get out because I know I'm also
- 21:23Speaker 2: like so close to removed that like, I know a
- 21:26Speaker 2: lot of these guys, like I played with a lot
- 21:28Speaker 2: of these guys, And my big thing is one, I
- 21:32Speaker 2: don't really have to be in there for what I'm doing.
- 21:35Speaker 2: It would be like nice just for me to kind
- 21:37Speaker 2: of like learn some stuff as I maybe continue to
- 21:40Speaker 2: progress in this industry. But I also don't want someone
- 21:44Speaker 2: to feel obligated to like come over and say hi
- 21:47Speaker 2: because I was in their position and I was still playing,
- 21:51Speaker 2: and there was someone part of the media that was
- 21:54Speaker 2: right out of the game that I knew you kind
- 21:56Speaker 2: of feel obligated to least go say hi, see how
- 21:59Speaker 2: they're doing and stuff. You know. So I part of
- 22:02Speaker 2: me wants to kind of just do go into the
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yankee side because I've never been in there, and I
- 22:06Speaker 2: kind of just maybe want to get kind of a
- 22:08Speaker 2: you know, for what it what it looks like and
- 22:11Speaker 2: what it kind of feels like to kind of help
- 22:13Speaker 2: me with what I'm supposed to be kind of reporting on.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But it's been hard for me to kind of cross
- 22:19Speaker 2: that line.
- 22:20Speaker 5: Listen, yesterday. I'll use this.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I told this on the Area yesterday. We're school Ball
- 22:24Speaker 3: is pitching, and obviously I know school but we've had
- 22:26Speaker 3: him on the show. I've talked to him a million times.
- 22:27Speaker 5: He's great. He's pitching.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Yesterday, I'm in the Tiger's clubhouse and he's walking right
- 22:30Speaker 3: at me, and I make I try to go up
- 22:32Speaker 3: to guys and say hi, just say hi, good luck,
- 22:34Speaker 3: have a great show, you know, great game. Bo Scooba
- 22:37Speaker 3: walks up to me and he's you know, and I'm like,
- 22:39Speaker 3: some guys.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Starting pictures are so like, I can't talk to you.
- 22:44Speaker 3: So he walks up to me and he smiles and
- 22:46Speaker 3: goes hey and sticks out his fist and gives me
- 22:47Speaker 3: a fist bump, and I'm like, hey, have a great game.
- 22:49Speaker 3: And then I was like, because I don't want to know,
- 22:51Speaker 3: he's you know. Starting Pitchers don't lock their eyes, so
- 22:53Speaker 3: some guys make it easy, some guys don't. But just
- 22:55Speaker 3: be yourself, man, like, enjoy it and go in the
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yankees clubhouse because it's.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Kind of cool. Actually, and their crats will, so it's.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Cool, crats. Is it worth seeing?
- 23:04Speaker 4: It's worth seeing. It's one of the best ones for sure.
- 23:07Speaker 4: They did it. They did it very pro style. You'll
- 23:09Speaker 4: see that.
- 23:12Speaker 2: That might be the easier start of like a place
- 23:14Speaker 2: that I didn't play. I know guys there, but like
- 23:17Speaker 2: it's still kind of personal, like going into like the
- 23:20Speaker 2: Blue Jays clubhouse. I know a lot of the staff,
- 23:22Speaker 2: the players, obviously a lot of turnover. But maybe that
- 23:25Speaker 2: would be a good place to start tomorrow.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it can be scary, but yeah, once you jump
- 23:32Speaker 1: in there, at least, yeah, can sit on the cat.
- 23:40Speaker 2: He would you would? You would you advise like the
- 23:42Speaker 2: best way walk in and just go straight to the
- 23:44Speaker 2: refrigerator pull out like a gatorade or a.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Water and then and then go sit and judge didn't judge,
- 23:52Speaker 3: didn't judge your feet.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Up and then like Jazz.
- 24:00Speaker 2: When he comes when he comes back from the cage,
- 24:02Speaker 2: I'm just sitting in his chair, feet up. Yeah, he
- 24:05Speaker 2: would love that, and then immediately ask him for a
- 24:08Speaker 2: sign bats Jersey.
- 24:14Speaker 1: J When you're done, yeah, go up to each starting
- 24:18Speaker 1: pitcher and just be like, what's up?
- 24:19Speaker 2: Just wanted to say, hellow go up to who's starting
- 24:24Speaker 2: tomorrow and just yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I'll love that.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Yeah, just be like, oh I love following your your
- 24:30Speaker 1: wife on Twitter. She always like posts about your starts,
- 24:33Speaker 1: like what do you think she's gonna stay after this one?
- 24:35Speaker 5: Today?
- 24:36Speaker 1: All right, we're off the rails. We gotta go because
- 24:38Speaker 1: we gotta get ready for next guests. But we're gonna
- 24:40Speaker 1: have KP later, so we'll see on the post game show.
- 24:42Speaker 1: We're going to recap Brewis Cubs.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Who's on post game?
- 24:46Speaker 1: You me and Krats. AJ has got to get beauty
- 24:49Speaker 1: rest for his early game the next day, but you,
- 24:51Speaker 1: me and Krats will be on. We're gonna do Brewers
- 24:53Speaker 1: Cubs and we'll still obviously recap also Philly Dodgers from
- 24:57Speaker 1: before that. We'll do it all after Brewers Cubs later
- 24:59Speaker 1: tonight live on YouTube. KP, good stuff man, great to
- 25:02Speaker 1: have you on. We'll see you later.
- 25:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna get my bed made before.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Oh yeah, crafts is very strict. One thing to do
- 25:08Speaker 1: in eight hours from now.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Thanks KP.
- 25:10Speaker 2: See you soon, you guys,
