- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:04Speaker 1: I'm your host coleeen Witt, and today we have very
- 0:07Speaker 1: special guests. Actor comedian while now crossan Novah Bobby J.
- 0:13Speaker 1: And rapper Bobby J. Thompson is in the building.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we in here. What's handy.
- 0:18Speaker 1: I'm really excited to have you. As I mentioned, like,
- 0:21Speaker 1: we've definitely crossed paths in the past, so it's nice
- 0:24Speaker 1: to have you. Y.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Please fed me.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I love when guests come on the show and they
- 0:28Speaker 1: feed me, but I'm always nervous about what you're gonna
- 0:31Speaker 1: feed me. Yeah, so why don't you go ahead and
- 0:34Speaker 1: tell me what you're about to cook me up?
- 0:36Speaker 2: All right, So I'm gonna keep you know what I mean,
- 0:37Speaker 2: real simple, old fashion you know what I mean, A
- 0:40Speaker 2: good old bacon sandwich, you know what I'm saying. I've
- 0:42Speaker 2: never been a real big egg fan like I've always
- 0:45Speaker 2: but I like bacon and bread like it's always been
- 0:48Speaker 2: my thing, the meat and the bread. Pause.
- 0:50Speaker 1: And there's no like condiments.
- 0:52Speaker 2: No, Nope, I've never because it's like, what do you
- 0:55Speaker 2: put on a sandwich? Like catch up with bacon? No
- 0:59Speaker 2: hot sauce, hot sauce, but it just depends on how
- 1:01Speaker 2: I'm feeling. That was more so before I stopped eating pork.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So the hot sauce with the pork bacon was like
- 1:07Speaker 2: fire turkey bacon. Hot sauce not so much, but just
- 1:10Speaker 2: the bread, the flavor of the turkey bacon. It was
- 1:13Speaker 2: just enough for me.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Okay, So you go ahead and start cooking it up,
- 1:40Speaker 1: and while you cooking it up, you gotta take me back. Oh,
- 1:43Speaker 1: by the way, this is electric. I know some of
- 1:45Speaker 1: a lot of people are used to cooking on.
- 1:48Speaker 2: All type of stuff. I haven't been through all types
- 1:50Speaker 2: of walks of life, hot plates, all that.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and you you started very young in the industry.
- 1:56Speaker 1: C yeah, yeah, So I'm curious what the heck was
- 1:58Speaker 1: going on when you was the in bacon and bread.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So what it was is, I'm gonna tell you the
- 2:04Speaker 2: crazy part about it. Right. So for me, I wasn't
- 2:08Speaker 2: so much. I wasn't like fifty rich, but I wasn't
- 2:11Speaker 2: like flat broke. But my mama didn't want me, didn't
- 2:15Speaker 2: want money to raise me. So I didn't know that
- 2:17Speaker 2: I really that I was a kid with money, you
- 2:19Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. Like I had came from mama
- 2:22Speaker 2: working two jobs. Sometimes every man for himself, make it
- 2:25Speaker 2: do what he did. That was one of my mamas saying,
- 2:27Speaker 2: every man for himself that night. I ain't cooking shit
- 2:30Speaker 2: figured out, you know what I'm saying. So with me, Like,
- 2:33Speaker 2: I've never been big on vegetables, never been big on
- 2:36Speaker 2: like you know what I mean, a lot of different shit.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I've always been god damn meating potatoes or like you
- 2:41Speaker 2: know what I mean, meating bread type of nigga.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Now are you still like that? You still don't eat
- 2:48Speaker 1: a lot of edgies?
- 2:49Speaker 2: No, And my mama tell me all the time, like, boy,
- 2:51Speaker 2: you're getting older, you better start eating vegetables. Is you're
- 2:53Speaker 2: gonna pay for it. And I'm hard headed, hard headed
- 2:56Speaker 2: as hell. I am very much hard headed, But sometimes
- 2:59Speaker 2: I eat vegetables, especially now like I got kids now,
- 3:02Speaker 2: so like I gotta kind of try to eat vegetables
- 3:05Speaker 2: because if I don't, then my son gonna be like, well, Daddy,
- 3:08Speaker 2: you don't eat vegetables. Yeah, so I gotta try to,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean, be a good example for
- 3:13Speaker 2: the children. But I'm really not a big vegetable fan.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Like I'm not even gonna lie to you like, I'm
- 3:18Speaker 2: a nigga that's gonna eat steak and mashed potatoes and
- 3:22Speaker 2: two pieces of broccoli, and I feel like that's a
- 3:25Speaker 2: good helping for me. I just I don't know why either,
- 3:28Speaker 2: because vegetables don't taste bad. I just don't fucking like them.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I don't know why bro Like, I'm just I don't know.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'm a carnivore. I don't want no damn grass.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So I guess vegan's not in your your forete.
- 3:40Speaker 2: Oh hell no, not a chance. I could never do.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I commend the ones that are vegan, but me, I
- 3:46Speaker 2: could never be vegan. I like burgers and steaks and
- 3:50Speaker 2: chicken wings and shit like that, and I don't think
- 3:53Speaker 2: no substitution can taste I'm not gonna lie. At one
- 3:56Speaker 2: time in Atlanta had some slutty vegan and that burger
- 3:59Speaker 2: was damn good.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I've always wanted to try.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It was damn good. I could taste where it wasn't
- 4:05Speaker 2: real ground. However, it wasn't bad. It was like it
- 4:10Speaker 2: still tastes good as fuck. Like if somebody would have
- 4:12Speaker 2: gave it to me without telling me it was slutty vegan,
- 4:14Speaker 2: they probably would have got over on me. But because
- 4:16Speaker 2: of the fact I knew that it was slutty vegan,
- 4:18Speaker 2: I feel like my taste bud was looking for the inconsistencies,
- 4:22Speaker 2: the non ground beef tasting shit.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I'll tell you, I'm like you in the sense that
- 4:28Speaker 1: I like meat, but uh in La, they do vegan
- 4:33Speaker 1: so well that like my guilty pleasure is vegan food.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Like if you like Colleen, where do you want to
- 4:40Speaker 1: go eat? I'm like sushi or vegan.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I can't get jiggy with sushi. I just can't for
- 4:45Speaker 2: some reason.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I don't know why.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I'm just such a nigga. I feel like it just
- 4:50Speaker 2: doesn't make sense for me to eat sushi. I'm just
- 4:52Speaker 2: like bro, I'm just the nigga.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But if you eat sushi with like people in Hollywood,
- 4:56Speaker 1: they get the little pieces of fish.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Me.
- 5:00Speaker 1: If you come with me, just hang with me one time, like.
- 5:03Speaker 2: My fish dead and fried Christ.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I'm telling you I agree with that, But I'm telling
- 5:07Speaker 1: you I order food where it's like I ordered the eel.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I always I love smoked eel, so it's not really wrong.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I've never even heard that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I'm not even trying to beg you, but let me
- 5:18Speaker 1: just let me show you how sushi's done one time.
- 5:20Speaker 2: I'm with it. I like trying new stuff, but it
- 5:24Speaker 2: just it takes. It takes someone to be like, come on,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I'm telling you, I'm going to try new stuff on
- 5:29Speaker 2: my own, like I like it. I'm not that nigga
- 5:31Speaker 2: gonna be riding on streaming like you know what sushi
- 5:32Speaker 2: restaurant go try? It has to be with somebody like, nah,
- 5:36Speaker 2: come here, this is what you get.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I'm gonna order it for you. Yeah.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Like, and we're good. You know what I mean? I
- 5:40Speaker 2: will definitely.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Well, so you started in acting, Like what was your
- 5:46Speaker 1: first big thing? My first and how old were you?
- 5:51Speaker 2: I was about six years old. I want to say.
- 5:54Speaker 2: My first film was My Baby's Daddy with Eddie Griffin,
- 5:57Speaker 2: Anthony Anderson and Michael Imperial. That was my first film.
- 6:02Speaker 2: I played a kind of small role in it. I
- 6:05Speaker 2: played like Eddie Griffin's baby, Mama's little brother. And what's
- 6:09Speaker 2: crazy is for me like acting was never really in
- 6:13Speaker 2: the cards for me, Like I alway thought I was
- 6:14Speaker 2: would be a rapper, like I just always I've always
- 6:16Speaker 2: had a love for music. I've always rapped, Like I
- 6:18Speaker 2: got my start on the Apollo rapping. So when the
- 6:22Speaker 2: acting thing kind of kicked off, it was new to me,
- 6:24Speaker 2: but it was fun, you know what I mean? I
- 6:25Speaker 2: found I found fun in it, and I'm like, man,
- 6:27Speaker 2: this is something I could do, you know what I mean?
- 6:29Speaker 2: So from there, I did Tracy Morgan Show, which was
- 6:31Speaker 2: an NBC television show sitcom on NBC, and that was
- 6:36Speaker 2: probably like my first like big thing where I'm a
- 6:40Speaker 2: series regular. I'm in every episode and you know, I'm
- 6:42Speaker 2: kind of making my mark in Hollywood, I would say,
- 6:45Speaker 2: because you know what I mean? That was like me,
- 6:47Speaker 2: that's where I kind of made my name. Man, Like
- 6:48Speaker 2: people would tell me I stole the show like that
- 6:50Speaker 2: was like it was talks for me to do a
- 6:52Speaker 2: spinoff on me, but it was like, well, what do
- 6:54Speaker 2: we do? We do a spinoff on a fucking five
- 6:57Speaker 2: year old six six, seven year old without appearance like
- 7:00Speaker 2: what happens to live with his grandma? Like is he
- 7:03Speaker 2: a troubled seven year old all of a sudden? Like
- 7:05Speaker 2: so obviously didn't pan out, but yeah, like I think
- 7:08Speaker 2: that's when I realized, like I'm good at that shit.
- 7:12Speaker 1: So your mom kind of introduced you to it? Did
- 7:14Speaker 1: you come from a single.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I came from a single parent household by way of
- 7:19Speaker 2: my daddy being incarcerated, you know what I mean. But
- 7:22Speaker 2: at the same time, my daddy made his presence felt
- 7:25Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, And that's when they I
- 7:26Speaker 2: always commend my dad for God rest his soul. Like
- 7:29Speaker 2: no matter what prison I got, Christmas gift, Birthday gifts,
- 7:32Speaker 2: calls all time, all the time, Like I never if
- 7:35Speaker 2: nobody told me that my daddy was in jail. I
- 7:37Speaker 2: just thought, like, my daddy is in Kansas City. I'm
- 7:39Speaker 2: in Los Angeles chasing this dream right now. But I
- 7:42Speaker 2: like if I would have never been told, like your
- 7:44Speaker 2: dad's incarcerated, Like my mom was never really wanted to
- 7:46Speaker 2: hide nothing from me and my little sister, Like she
- 7:48Speaker 2: was very open with telling us, I mean everything on
- 7:51Speaker 2: a need to know basis for the most part, like
- 7:53Speaker 2: she she felt like that was something we needed to know.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And you know what I mean, this is what's going on.
- 7:56Speaker 2: But it's all right. That don't mean your daddy not gonna,
- 7:58Speaker 2: don't love you, don't want to be in life. If
- 8:00Speaker 2: he's dealing with something right now, and you know what
- 8:02Speaker 2: I mean, He'll be there when he can. But you know,
- 8:04Speaker 2: what I mean. Like I said, my daddy did get
- 8:05Speaker 2: the best to make his presence felt from prison, and
- 8:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean, my mama was amazing, Like
- 8:11Speaker 2: she was amazing and everything, being the in home parent
- 8:14Speaker 2: of mama and dad, you know what I mean, even though,
- 8:16Speaker 2: like I said, my dad wasn't absent, he just was incarcerated,
- 8:19Speaker 2: you know what I mean. But so I guess I
- 8:21Speaker 2: could say I had a single parent household, but not really,
- 8:23Speaker 2: you know what I mean, because I did have both parents.
- 8:25Speaker 2: But yeah, man, like it just was one of them
- 8:28Speaker 2: things where it was like my neighbor I used to
- 8:32Speaker 2: my mom used to work two jobs. She would come home,
- 8:35Speaker 2: she would be tired. And obviously I'm a kid with energy.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I want to go outside, I want to play. I
- 8:39Speaker 2: come from the era of playing outside. We had no
- 8:41Speaker 2: fucking iPads and dig yeah. Yeah the first we had
- 8:45Speaker 2: the big booty computers when I was a kid, like
- 8:48Speaker 2: the motherfucker that with the big back on the bay.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah, rich to have one of those.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Yeah, my brother, we want to Rich. My brother stole
- 8:55Speaker 2: the parts and put it together. Long line of criminal
- 8:58Speaker 2: activity in my life is line to you. So yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 2: so my neighbors man I used to go outside and
- 9:04Speaker 2: play with my neighbors all the time, and I would
- 9:06Speaker 2: always find myself kind of putting on the show for them,
- 9:09Speaker 2: you know what I mean, whether I'm just rapping, I'm
- 9:11Speaker 2: just entertaining. I might be imitating my local pastor, you
- 9:15Speaker 2: know what I mean. Like that's I and from there,
- 9:17Speaker 2: like a lady by the name of Cynthia, who was
- 9:18Speaker 2: my neighbor. She was like one of the first people
- 9:20Speaker 2: to kind of see in me, what you I mean,
- 9:25Speaker 2: what other seeing in me later on down the line,
- 9:27Speaker 2: because every day after school, I would be outside with
- 9:31Speaker 2: her and her kids, and I would just be entertaining
- 9:33Speaker 2: the shit out of them. Like and it's crazy, because
- 9:35Speaker 2: I was so young, I can't really quite remember everything
- 9:37Speaker 2: that I was doing, but I can remember. I have
- 9:40Speaker 2: glimpses of, like I said, me imitating my pastor me
- 9:42Speaker 2: rapping whatever rap song. Like I said, at this time,
- 9:44Speaker 2: I'm nothing about I'm not even in school. I'm like
- 9:47Speaker 2: coming on from daycare. I'm about four years old, maybe
- 9:49Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying, Like I'm not even in
- 9:50Speaker 2: preschool yet. So I was advanced, like to know these
- 9:54Speaker 2: rap songs and to be able to, you know, me
- 9:55Speaker 2: catch on to them and rap them word for word,
- 9:57Speaker 2: Like I was four years old and I knew Little
- 10:00Speaker 2: Wayne the block is Hot from start to finish, like
- 10:04Speaker 2: couldn't like for one, like, Nigga, how do you even
- 10:06Speaker 2: how are you catching on of these words at four
- 10:08Speaker 2: years old?
- 10:09Speaker 1: Like?
- 10:10Speaker 2: And Miss Cinthy used to always tell my mama like,
- 10:13Speaker 2: he's special, like you need to get him into some dinner.
- 10:16Speaker 2: It's something you need to put him into something, he's special.
- 10:17Speaker 2: When my mama don't see it. My mama's wrestling and
- 10:20Speaker 2: working and you know what I mean, and her my
- 10:22Speaker 2: time with Miss Cinthy is her kind of rest time
- 10:24Speaker 2: when I come in the House of Time where to
- 10:25Speaker 2: prepare dinner, get us ready for the next day, get
- 10:27Speaker 2: her ready for her next workday. So she didn't really
- 10:30Speaker 2: see it often. It wasn't until one day we was
- 10:33Speaker 2: riding the car and the Block Is Hot came on
- 10:35Speaker 2: the radio and I wrapped that motherfucker from start to finish,
- 10:39Speaker 2: And my mama looked back and was she was like nigga,
- 10:42Speaker 2: like surprised, like what the fuck? Like, cause, for one,
- 10:44Speaker 2: it was crazy because my mama didn't play rap music
- 10:47Speaker 2: in her car. My MoMA played strictly gospel music. So
- 10:50Speaker 2: once she was like, where the fuck did you hear
- 10:53Speaker 2: this at? And how are you hearing it enough to
- 10:55Speaker 2: be able to notice shit from start to finish like that,
- 10:58Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. So it caught her by surprise,
- 11:00Speaker 2: and I think from there that's what she knew, Like, Okay,
- 11:02Speaker 2: what these people are telling me about my son is true,
- 11:04Speaker 2: Like he's special, like she's you know, he's just a
- 11:06Speaker 2: kid with energy. He I mean, he's just a kid,
- 11:09Speaker 2: dude energy, and he's you know, I mean, y'all entertained
- 11:10Speaker 2: because he's not y'all kid, you know what I meaning.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So everybody's more entertained by other people kids than they own.
- 11:15Speaker 2: That's just natural, especially as a parent. Now I get
- 11:18Speaker 2: it now, Like my son, dudes, I'm like Nigga, you bad.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Other people like man, he's hilarious, he's funny, he's smart
- 11:22Speaker 2: as hell. I'm like, man, I do bad. So it's
- 11:25Speaker 2: just a difference. So with that, like after she seen
- 11:28Speaker 2: me or heard me rap that song, she kind of
- 11:30Speaker 2: took heed of what people were saying. And it just
- 11:32Speaker 2: so happened that the Apollo Theater was holding auditions in
- 11:36Speaker 2: my city. At the time, so they held an audition
- 11:38Speaker 2: at our local mall. I won the audition to go
- 11:42Speaker 2: represent Kansas City in New York, and from there, like
- 11:47Speaker 2: I said, it just took off. Like I said, from
- 11:48Speaker 2: they went Tracy from Ner went My Baby's Daddy, Tracy
- 11:51Speaker 2: Morgan Show. But like in between, I did all the
- 11:53Speaker 2: crazy talk shows, Sally Ricky Lake, Jenny Jones, like all
- 11:57Speaker 2: the talk shows that motherfucker's my age don't even remember existing.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And I wouldn't even remember it existing if I wasn't
- 12:03Speaker 2: known the motherfucker, you know what I'm saying. Like, so
- 12:05Speaker 2: it's kind of crazy to be like the nostalgia that
- 12:08Speaker 2: like all the things I've done, like leading up to
- 12:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean, where I got to and
- 12:12Speaker 2: where I am now, Like kind of crazy, But it
- 12:16Speaker 2: was it's dope to see like like my mama actually
- 12:19Speaker 2: believed in me, you know what I mean. Like it
- 12:21Speaker 2: started with my mama like she was like, oh no,
- 12:24Speaker 2: but once she's seen it for herself, she believed in me.
- 12:26Speaker 2: My mama had a career, she was a she was
- 12:28Speaker 2: a a r n she was a registered nurse. And
- 12:32Speaker 2: there's not it's not no bad job. There's not no
- 12:34Speaker 2: dead end job to where it's like, that's just a
- 12:35Speaker 2: job you throw away to go chase a pipe dream
- 12:37Speaker 2: and move to l a like.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And she did that.
- 12:40Speaker 2: She did that for me.
- 12:41Speaker 1: How old were you at the time I was?
- 12:44Speaker 2: I was I was about six or seven years old
- 12:45Speaker 2: at the time. I was young as hell. And the
- 12:47Speaker 2: people told her Kansas City, Missouri.
- 12:50Speaker 1: That's a big feat hell.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yeah, she packed up and the people told her, if
- 12:55Speaker 2: you leave, you can't come back.
- 12:56Speaker 1: What was the conversation between if you can recollect? Like,
- 13:00Speaker 1: what was the conversation between you and her at that age?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Like, I just remember telling my mam, I'm gonna make
- 13:04Speaker 2: you richie. You don't never have to work no more.
- 13:06Speaker 1: At five or six, That's all I remember.
- 13:07Speaker 2: But that was the only thing that was said. And
- 13:10Speaker 2: like I said, my mama was still to this day,
- 13:12Speaker 2: she's she's deep in church christian She looked, she she
- 13:16Speaker 2: she she started to say something to me like boy,
- 13:18Speaker 2: and then she caught herself and looked and said, God,
- 13:21Speaker 2: I received it. And from there, you know what I mean.
- 13:24Speaker 2: She she took the necessary steps to make that that
- 13:28Speaker 2: dream and what that what I said to her, She
- 13:30Speaker 2: took a step to make that reality, you know what
- 13:32Speaker 2: I mean. So like without my mama like believing and
- 13:35Speaker 2: really you know what I mean, giving up what she
- 13:38Speaker 2: what she was doing as far as working, and you
- 13:40Speaker 2: know what I mean, making things happen like that, nothing
- 13:42Speaker 2: nothing goes, nothing shakes for me. Like like I said,
- 13:45Speaker 2: my mama was belief in me and belief in you
- 13:48Speaker 2: know what I mean, the fact that God put an anointing
- 13:50Speaker 2: on me at a young age to do something specially
- 13:54Speaker 2: like I said, I come from a long line of
- 13:56Speaker 2: all my mama's sons feelings like I come from.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Fuck, how many siblings do you?
- 14:00Speaker 2: I got four brothers, the youngest. I'm the youngest boy.
- 14:02Speaker 1: You got eight?
- 14:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they're not all my mama. My mama got five
- 14:05Speaker 2: of them. Though. My mama got four boys with me included.
- 14:08Speaker 2: And then I got a little sister, so I'm the
- 14:10Speaker 2: second to youngest period.
- 14:12Speaker 1: So she moved the entire family.
- 14:14Speaker 2: No, because my older my older brother is ten years
- 14:18Speaker 2: older than me, twelve years older than me, fifteen years
- 14:20Speaker 2: older than me, so it was a large gap. So
- 14:23Speaker 2: by the time my career started, one of my brothers
- 14:25Speaker 2: was doing a ten year bid. The other two was
- 14:28Speaker 2: knee deep in the streets and she it wasn't no,
- 14:31Speaker 2: it wasn't no, rilling them back in at the time
- 14:33Speaker 2: they had made their decisions to be and I said,
- 14:35Speaker 2: they jump up to the porch young, my brother jump
- 14:36Speaker 2: up to porch thirteen fourteen. I said, at fifteen, my
- 14:39Speaker 2: brother called his first case and got sented to ten years.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So my oldest brother, you know what I mean. So
- 14:44Speaker 2: from there, So do.
- 14:45Speaker 1: You think also in her decision was like she had already.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Wanted something different. She was like, if I want something different,
- 14:51Speaker 2: I have to kind of help him see something different
- 14:54Speaker 2: because naturally I'm gonna want to be like my big
- 14:57Speaker 2: brothers run behind my big brothers.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That kind of similar to what kind of happened with
- 15:01Speaker 1: Kevin Hart and his brother, Like I don't know if
- 15:03Speaker 1: you heard one of his own Like mom was like,
- 15:06Speaker 1: I'm not.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Like you came because of what? Yeah, because of that,
- 15:10Speaker 2: And you.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Think that's kind of like what your mom was like,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'm just not gonna roll the dice on Bobby.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, Like she she took heed to what was
- 15:16Speaker 2: going on and she said, you know what I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna do something different, you know what
- 15:20Speaker 2: I mean? And show him something different and give him
- 15:22Speaker 2: a chance at being something different. Now, I did still
- 15:25Speaker 2: fuck up, just like my brothers. But that was my
- 15:27Speaker 2: own decision. That wasn't no situation like. That was me
- 15:29Speaker 2: just making dumb decisions down the line when I got older,
- 15:33Speaker 2: getting too big for my bridges in a sense, you
- 15:35Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. But my mama did everything she
- 15:37Speaker 2: could to steer me in a whole different direction.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Okay, so then now you're doing your acting thing. You
- 15:43Speaker 1: you land this big gig at six Yeah, now you
- 15:47Speaker 1: move before you land the gig. Correct.
- 15:51Speaker 3: We moved?
- 15:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I want to say we moved to La.
- 15:53Speaker 2: We was like looking for places in La shortly. No,
- 15:57Speaker 2: I was while I was auditioning. That's when I was
- 15:59Speaker 2: audition for the Tracy Morgan Show. We were staying at
- 16:02Speaker 2: a little motel called the night In Still there right
- 16:05Speaker 2: there on the Vinuenta. I want to say, that is
- 16:09Speaker 2: really right right by Universal Studios, Like we're staying right
- 16:12Speaker 2: there by the subway, by that place where people take
- 16:15Speaker 2: all the everybody take their head shots, like and in
- 16:18Speaker 2: the midst of us staying there. I had an audition
- 16:21Speaker 2: for Tracy Morgan Show, and I booked it. So from there,
- 16:27Speaker 2: but my mama had already lost her job because I
- 16:30Speaker 2: did a movie called Full Clip in Los Angeles. Matter
- 16:33Speaker 2: of fact, that's what I was in LA for when
- 16:35Speaker 2: I audition for Tracy Morgan Show. And once we finished filming,
- 16:38Speaker 2: I stayed a little longer to do some auditions and
- 16:40Speaker 2: try to get some things going because my mama knew, like,
- 16:42Speaker 2: there's nothing to go back to. We got this little
- 16:44Speaker 2: we got this my baby daddy money. We got the
- 16:46Speaker 2: Full Clip month with movie money, but eventually that's gonna
- 16:50Speaker 2: run out, especially the price of living in LA. She's like, man,
- 16:52Speaker 2: once I get to you know what I mean, getting
- 16:53Speaker 2: get us into a place and enroll them in school, be.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Able to touch the money though, because I heard.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's it's a percentage of it goes to
- 17:01Speaker 2: a trust fund. But you know what I mean, Yeah,
- 17:03Speaker 2: there's always you know what I mean, there's you need
- 17:05Speaker 2: something to live off of obviously, So yeah, like she
- 17:09Speaker 2: had a percentage, and you know what I mean, from there,
- 17:11Speaker 2: she once I did, once I audition for Tracy Morgan Show,
- 17:16Speaker 2: I booked it, and you know what I mean, that
- 17:18Speaker 2: was that was like okay, that was her way to exhale,
- 17:21Speaker 2: like okay, cool, Like it's paying off something that's gonna
- 17:24Speaker 2: be steady. We know, we got something that's gonna gonna
- 17:26Speaker 2: be to check every week. Like now we're we're she's comfortable.
- 17:30Speaker 2: She's like, okay, cool, I can breathe. I'm about seven now,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I'm freshly turning seven.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Did you at that age understand money? Yeah?
- 17:39Speaker 2: Hell no, I didn't understand money. I didn't know what
- 17:42Speaker 2: it meant. Ten you give me ten ten crisp dollar bills.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I feel like I'm the richest kid in the world
- 17:47Speaker 2: because I come I come from nothing. I really come
- 17:49Speaker 2: from still, and I remember vividly it probably I had
- 17:54Speaker 2: to be three, I said, like, I come from a
- 17:56Speaker 2: long line of just fucking criminals. Man years old, we're
- 18:00Speaker 2: still in not the liquor store, at our neighborhood liquor store.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I'm three, probably four years old. I'm I'm seeing them still,
- 18:05Speaker 2: so I'm putting it in my pocket. Yeah, like it
- 18:07Speaker 2: just that's you know what I mean, that's what came natural.
- 18:09Speaker 2: And no, I'm seeing y'all do it. So that's what
- 18:10Speaker 2: we're doing. You know what I'm saying. That's that's the
- 18:12Speaker 2: one thing you got to see it. I got that
- 18:14Speaker 2: little crisp on, the little crispon the gotta have to crunch.
- 18:17Speaker 1: But at this young age, do you start to feel
- 18:20Speaker 1: any type of pressure. I guess that's what I'm trying
- 18:22Speaker 1: to get it, Like, did you feel any type of pressures?
- 18:24Speaker 2: Like And that's another thing that credits No, that's nothing
- 18:27Speaker 2: that that's a credit to my mama because one of
- 18:29Speaker 2: the first things she told me before shit even got
- 18:32Speaker 2: to like a point where it was like, let's say,
- 18:35Speaker 2: like to where it was big and it was getting
- 18:36Speaker 2: like colossal in a way, like she made sure to
- 18:39Speaker 2: let me know, like, if you ever stop having fun
- 18:41Speaker 2: with this shit, we're done with this shit, okay, Like
- 18:44Speaker 2: she told me that from Jump Street. The moment it's
- 18:46Speaker 2: not fun for you no more, you let me know,
- 18:48Speaker 2: and it's over with the moment. You just want to
- 18:50Speaker 2: go back to being a regular kid to go to school,
- 18:52Speaker 2: and that's what we'll do. So I always had that
- 18:56Speaker 2: freedom to be like, whether I'm failing succeeding, whether it's
- 18:59Speaker 2: going my way not going my way, I can say
- 19:01Speaker 2: fuck this shit, and my mama gonna behind me because
- 19:03Speaker 2: she's not moved by the money she's not moved by
- 19:05Speaker 2: with the shit that enticed most parents when it comes
- 19:07Speaker 2: to having their kids in Hollywood, Like because it was
- 19:09Speaker 2: never my mama's plan to do this. This was something
- 19:11Speaker 2: that she just it was God's plan, and my mam
- 19:13Speaker 2: will follow God's plan. But this was never her plan.
- 19:15Speaker 2: She's like, it makes me no never mind, because if
- 19:17Speaker 2: I got to I'm gonna go back to work and I'm
- 19:19Speaker 2: gonna provide for minds. That was always her attitude about it.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Like it was never no if ans or butts about
- 19:24Speaker 2: it with my mama. So that made any type of
- 19:27Speaker 2: pressure kind of subside, any type of pressure that could
- 19:29Speaker 2: have been there. It was like, there ain't no way
- 19:31Speaker 2: because I don't got her. You feel me, It ain't
- 19:33Speaker 2: shit I gotta do but say, I'm done with this shit,
- 19:36Speaker 2: and I can literally be done with this shit. Ain't
- 19:37Speaker 2: nobody gonna be forcing me. Like a lot of child
- 19:40Speaker 2: actors didn't have that to where their parents put them
- 19:44Speaker 2: before the money. You know what I'm saying, Like my
- 19:45Speaker 2: mama put me before the money, and like that's kind
- 19:49Speaker 2: of why I shaped and molded how I came how
- 19:51Speaker 2: I am, Like I'm humble, I'm kind of I'm down
- 19:53Speaker 2: on earth for the most part, Like I'm not really
- 19:55Speaker 2: because I've never been raised that the money was everything.
- 19:58Speaker 2: I've always been raised like moral, those principles, you know
- 20:00Speaker 2: what I mean, what you stand for, what you stand
- 20:02Speaker 2: on is what means the most. You know what I'm saying. Family,
- 20:05Speaker 2: That's what means. I mean, like ship like that, Like
- 20:06Speaker 2: that's just how it was brought up. Yeah, So there
- 20:10Speaker 2: was never really no pressure on my on my part ever,
- 20:12Speaker 2: for real, I don't think so. Yeah, not that I
- 20:14Speaker 2: could ever remember. I don't never remember. Pressure started once
- 20:17Speaker 2: I got older. I started to put pressure on myself
- 20:19Speaker 2: when I got older too, to live up to everything
- 20:22Speaker 2: and all they to compress as a young bull. I'm like,
- 20:25Speaker 2: I can't. I can't do nothing less than that. Now.
- 20:28Speaker 2: I did so much great as a young good it's
- 20:30Speaker 2: not good enough no more.
- 20:32Speaker 1: And I was gonna say, was there ever a gap
- 20:34Speaker 1: in between you being a young guy that was clearly
- 20:37Speaker 1: very successful in his career, Like was there a gap
- 20:40Speaker 1: where there was?
- 20:44Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, was like Nigga fucked Bobby Jay where they
- 20:49Speaker 2: chewed me up as good as I was tasting and
- 20:51Speaker 2: they spit me out absolutely.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And what did that feel like, and what was your
- 20:56Speaker 1: thought process through that? It was are you good?
- 21:01Speaker 2: You're good? I was probably about, I say, probably a
- 21:06Speaker 2: freshman in high school is when shit really started like
- 21:10Speaker 2: slowing down and it came to like a damnar complete
- 21:13Speaker 2: stop at a time, like it was it shit just
- 21:16Speaker 2: wasn't popping, Like it wasn't going like it. Shit wasn't popping.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I was doing Hello auditions, I wasn't booking shit. I
- 21:22Speaker 2: wasn't you know what I mean, It wasn't shit really popping,
- 21:24Speaker 2: And like for me, it was like, damn, like what
- 21:29Speaker 2: am I doing wrong? In a sense, you know what
- 21:30Speaker 2: I'm saying? I questioned myself like damn, am I not
- 21:32Speaker 2: good enough? No more? Did they only? Was I only
- 21:34Speaker 2: good enough as this kid just playing this badass smart
- 21:38Speaker 2: mouth kid? Was that the only thing they wanted me
- 21:39Speaker 2: for it to be that?
- 21:40Speaker 4: Like?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Do they not think I can really act and play
- 21:43Speaker 2: different roles and do different things? Like so it troubled
- 21:46Speaker 2: me for show. It troubled me for show?
- 21:48Speaker 1: And then did you feel like peer pressure because like
- 21:50Speaker 1: now at this point you're.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Famous, right, Yeah, Like I could say I felt I
- 21:54Speaker 2: definitely felt a lot of I wouldn't say it was
- 21:56Speaker 2: really peer pressure because the kids around me wasn't. Really
- 22:00Speaker 2: I was the one pressure in kids like nigga, I'm
- 22:02Speaker 2: because I was smoking weed early. I was. I was
- 22:04Speaker 2: the one like bringing motherfuckers alone.
- 22:06Speaker 1: And when I say pressure, I'm not saying from your
- 22:08Speaker 1: school because at your school you're the.
- 22:10Speaker 2: Time and I stayed two years.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Where you you were very popular, right, But industry wise,
- 22:16Speaker 1: were you feeling some type of pressure?
- 22:18Speaker 2: No, because even amongst my friend group of other child actors,
- 22:22Speaker 2: I was the most successful. Okay, in my in my break,
- 22:25Speaker 2: like this is not the sound cock, he's not to
- 22:26Speaker 2: be arrogant, none of that in my in the time
- 22:28Speaker 2: when it slowed down for me, none of the niggas
- 22:30Speaker 2: I came up with caught me, okay, and not just
- 22:33Speaker 2: that's just that's just the.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Guys on the true But how long was the break?
- 22:37Speaker 2: It lasted Probably a good she at least a good
- 22:45Speaker 2: five or seven years.
- 22:46Speaker 1: I said, that's long.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That's a break that's been in a decade. The show
- 22:50Speaker 2: my whole my whole time in high school, like I
- 22:52Speaker 2: ain't had no motion, like I was living off of
- 22:55Speaker 2: residual and sh I have been doing like I think
- 22:58Speaker 2: I I probably did Tyler Perry's House of Pain and
- 23:02Speaker 2: Tyler Perrys for Better or Worse for a couple of
- 23:05Speaker 2: years during high school. But I fucked that.
- 23:07Speaker 5: Up on my throat dumb decisions.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Uh, one of my buddies took his mama car and
- 23:28Speaker 2: me just like I'm a loyal nigga, Like, nigga, we
- 23:30Speaker 2: in it together. You took their mother ucking car. So
- 23:32Speaker 2: I think I'm like fifteen, I'm just starting driving. I
- 23:34Speaker 2: got a permit, you know what I'm saying. So I'm like,
- 23:36Speaker 2: nigga took the car. Fuck it. The homie who we
- 23:39Speaker 2: had that was our older homie that was supposed to drive,
- 23:41Speaker 2: left my nigga on stuck like we're supposed to always.
- 23:43Speaker 2: You're supposed to come back, get him, get the car,
- 23:45Speaker 2: take the car back to his mama. Boom and no,
- 23:47Speaker 2: you know, I mean, nobody knows nothing. Buddy stopped answering
- 23:49Speaker 2: his phone on us. Lee was hanging so before I'm like,
- 23:52Speaker 2: fuck it, I'm not about to call your MoMA, like
- 23:54Speaker 2: what your car here? He here, come get the car.
- 23:56Speaker 2: I'm like, fucking nigga, we together, you my dog, nigga,
- 23:59Speaker 2: fuck it, we about to load, like getting this motherfuck,
- 24:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna drive you home. Nigga'm gonna have a kid.
- 24:02Speaker 2: It's one of no uber ns on this I gotta
- 24:04Speaker 2: I'm gonna call a cab ahead of time, have a
- 24:06Speaker 2: cab waiting on it's crib, probably ten minutes from my hotel.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I'm standing at the time, like, bro, I can't make
- 24:10Speaker 2: it ten minutes. Something ain't right. But we just take it.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Ten minutes. Park this morningfuck in a parking structure. You
- 24:15Speaker 2: go upstairs like you've been now hanging and banging, hooping
- 24:17Speaker 2: all day. We're good, you know what I'm saying.
- 24:20Speaker 1: We're running for my moms.
- 24:22Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, facts like you good, you know what
- 24:24Speaker 2: I mean.
- 24:25Speaker 1: So hey, we're gonna pretend it and hopefully will be.
- 24:27Speaker 2: As mama not on. Yeah. So, but it turns out
- 24:30Speaker 2: that I wasn't as good a driver as I thought. Uh.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I crashed the ship out that car pretty bad. But
- 24:37Speaker 2: not only because they know way like I was a
- 24:38Speaker 2: bad driver. It was pouring raining, So as a beginning,
- 24:42Speaker 2: as a beginner driver, you're not ready for that. Like
- 24:45Speaker 2: I'm and I'm rushing, I know, like I'm nervous, I'm rushing.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I'm driving fast on a hurry up because my mom
- 24:50Speaker 2: is in the next hotel room next door like we
- 24:53Speaker 2: and we're enjoining rooms. So I'm like, I gotta get
- 24:55Speaker 2: back before my mom. I got to be on set
- 24:57Speaker 2: the next morning. I know my mama's gonna be knocking
- 24:59Speaker 2: on this door to make sure. With my clothes picked
- 25:00Speaker 2: out for the next morning, I got everything together for
- 25:03Speaker 2: work the next morning. So I'm like, Nigga, I gotta
- 25:05Speaker 2: get you here and get back before my mama get
- 25:08Speaker 2: w into anything. You know what I'm saying.
- 25:09Speaker 1: But I love how everybody was scared of their mama
- 25:12Speaker 1: and this still.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Scared of my mama to this day, to what Deon
- 25:17Speaker 2: Waller say to this day, still scared of my mama.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Don't play with that lady. She's about four ten and all, Mama,
- 25:22Speaker 2: Mama a little loer than me, and don't fuck around.
- 25:25Speaker 1: That's hilarious.
- 25:25Speaker 2: He don't fuck around, Nick. Now, they didn't seen me
- 25:29Speaker 2: get my ass whooped on the set before? What man? Listen, Kyle, Now,
- 25:33Speaker 2: when we finished the interview and ask him about to
- 25:34Speaker 2: strike out my ass whooped on set, my mama sent
- 25:36Speaker 2: me back to the Yeah I'm good now, Yeah, Mama
- 25:41Speaker 2: didn't play mama didn't fucking around me and car nowt
- 25:46Speaker 2: on that. That's a story we laughed about all the
- 25:48Speaker 2: time to this day, we laugh about that. Whoa, Okay, Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 2: so I fucked it up, we crashed the car, we
- 25:53Speaker 2: get arrested. So when we get arrested, this is when
- 25:58Speaker 2: we get arrested. We getting the damn pre sine with
- 26:00Speaker 2: the damn officers. And me realized, at this point in
- 26:04Speaker 2: my age, I'm starting to realize who I am. I'm
- 26:07Speaker 2: starting to realize I got money. I'm a young nigga
- 26:09Speaker 2: with money and da da da, So I'm arrogant. I'm
- 26:11Speaker 2: a little arrogant at this point. And my buddy, he
- 26:13Speaker 2: was a young lit dude too. He was his dad
- 26:16Speaker 2: is somebody, very very big time, you know what I mean.
- 26:18Speaker 2: So we was lit. So were getting this motherfucker. We
- 26:21Speaker 2: talking cash it to the office. Man, what you're talking
- 26:23Speaker 2: to you? Tomow? You caused one hundred fifet dollars damage
- 26:25Speaker 2: a partly? Like, man, that's a Lamborghini. My daddy got
- 26:27Speaker 2: two of them. I'm like, yeah, nigga, fuck you mean
- 26:29Speaker 2: niga one hundred fift thousand. I'm gonna make that this season.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Nigga what you're talking about? Like what talking shit? You
- 26:35Speaker 2: know what I mean? So that pissed the officers off
- 26:36Speaker 2: to where the officer was gonna release us to our mamas.
- 26:39Speaker 2: That night. We talked so cold to them niggas that
- 26:41Speaker 2: they're like, nope, you're going to jail. We're taking you
- 26:44Speaker 2: to Julie. It's in Atlanta. We went, We went the
- 26:46Speaker 2: Metro Juvenile Detention Center. I never forget it. And when
- 26:50Speaker 2: we went there, we got there and we were supposed
- 26:53Speaker 2: to go to court the morning we got there. One
- 26:57Speaker 2: of the ladies that was like the head of the
- 26:59Speaker 2: juvenile attention center, older black lady, no nonsense. I wish
- 27:03Speaker 2: I could remember her name because she she she she
- 27:05Speaker 2: gave me a lot of game, a lot of game.
- 27:07Speaker 2: In that moment. I didn't. I didn't really take heed
- 27:09Speaker 2: to it. Like I got a little older and really
- 27:10Speaker 2: realized she was trying to tell me. But she gave
- 27:12Speaker 2: me a lot of game. And she said, wait, who
- 27:14Speaker 2: are you? You who? And my buddy named after his daddy,
- 27:17Speaker 2: So when she said his name, you know who his
- 27:19Speaker 2: daddy is. So you who? You who? Ah, y'all not
- 27:22Speaker 2: going to get you think I get y'all think I
- 27:24Speaker 2: got special ain't no specials in this motherfucker. Y'all not
- 27:27Speaker 2: going to court the morning because you you, you and
- 27:29Speaker 2: you his son and no, you're going to court Wednesday.
- 27:32Speaker 2: I think it's like a Saturday.
- 27:35Speaker 1: So you were in jail for that many days?
- 27:36Speaker 2: Yes, indeed. So now you gotta realize how much money
- 27:39Speaker 2: I'm costing, mister Perry, because now I'm not there to shoot.
- 27:43Speaker 2: I'm fucking up big time because now they got to
- 27:44Speaker 2: rearrange the whole shoot schedule around me. And I'm not
- 27:48Speaker 2: even the star of the show. I'm just I'm the
- 27:50Speaker 2: son of the stars of the show. So I'm not
- 27:53Speaker 2: even like Nigga. We we we fucking up millions of
- 27:56Speaker 2: dollars because of you like this, before I realized how
- 27:58Speaker 2: much a day of shooting really caused, different cameras and
- 28:01Speaker 2: crews and cast members and everybody getting paid, transportation, people catering,
- 28:06Speaker 2: Like it's a million dollar day that I just fucked off.
- 28:08Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like if I could see me,
- 28:10Speaker 2: if I bro my bad dog. Because now I'm an adult,
- 28:13Speaker 2: I understand what I did. You know what I mean,
- 28:16Speaker 2: where I went wrong at You know what I mean?
- 28:17Speaker 2: But as a young, arrogant nigga that just think I
- 28:20Speaker 2: know it all, and you know what I mean, I
- 28:22Speaker 2: ain't no shit, So yeah, man, it taught me a
- 28:27Speaker 2: lot though, I said, we go to jail, we go
- 28:28Speaker 2: to court, Wednesday, we get released from court. But by
- 28:31Speaker 2: this time they missed three days of work, so that
- 28:33Speaker 2: means three days of filming had to be rearranged based
- 28:35Speaker 2: off of my stupid ass decision. I mean, I wouldn't
- 28:38Speaker 2: really say it was a stupid decision. It was a
- 28:39Speaker 2: decision where like it was a young decision, and like
- 28:43Speaker 2: I can't say I wouldn't make the same decision today.
- 28:45Speaker 2: I'm a loyal nigga. I'm with my dog like it
- 28:47Speaker 2: is like it ain't no nigga that did the same
- 28:51Speaker 2: for me, She actually didn't. At this point we was
- 28:56Speaker 2: past ass whoopings. So now she I was about fifteen,
- 28:59Speaker 2: so I'm getting that, like, okay, mama, this little belt,
- 29:02Speaker 2: your little as women's ain't really it ain't nothing. So
- 29:05Speaker 2: now she would get me no phone, no xbox, and
- 29:09Speaker 2: then she took my freedom. I remember, I'm just now
- 29:10Speaker 2: starting to fuck right. So I'm in my own hotel.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Run I say, I'm in my I'm in a joining
- 29:15Speaker 2: room my mom in another room. It's a door. I
- 29:16Speaker 2: can always lock that door, keep out of it. So
- 29:19Speaker 2: she cut me all the way off. No phone, no uh,
- 29:22Speaker 2: no game, and I don't get my own work. Now
- 29:24Speaker 2: I'm in a double bed with her. Oh I can't.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Even that is enough.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Fact at fifteen years old, the word you're thinking like, oh,
- 29:31Speaker 2: I got to share a room with my mama. Like
- 29:33Speaker 2: I don't even want my mama kissing me in public.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I gotta go to bed. Nigga, my mama right there,
- 29:37Speaker 2: this is we right here. I'm in the bed, my
- 29:38Speaker 2: mama in the bed. That is embarrassing. Like it's like, nigga,
- 29:41Speaker 2: I wake up like every day like for mama right there.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Like I can't even say what I want to say.
- 29:45Speaker 2: I can't do what I want to get. Yeah, I
- 29:47Speaker 2: don't got my phone at it this, so I ain't
- 29:48Speaker 2: like I could I could call my girl and talk
- 29:50Speaker 2: on the phone with my girl any goddamn way because
- 29:52Speaker 2: I don't got no damn phone. Hilarious, But yeah, man,
- 29:55Speaker 2: mama didn't place you. She said, Okay, we're gonna you
- 29:57Speaker 2: want to be a jail bird. I'm gona tat you
- 29:58Speaker 2: like jail right here. You don't get no privileges this nigga.
- 30:00Speaker 2: You gotta you gotta seale mate. I'm your sale maate nigga.
- 30:03Speaker 2: And I'm big dog nigga. I got top bunk. I
- 30:06Speaker 2: control the TV. All that, nigga. I get showered first nigga.
- 30:09Speaker 2: All that. Yeah, Mama was on that, like Mama was
- 30:12Speaker 2: sucking around.
- 30:14Speaker 1: To teach me. Shout out to the moms how to
- 30:16Speaker 1: be a mom. That's how you're supposed to do it.
- 30:19Speaker 2: No, no, no, for sure.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so she taught that lesson. You cook that food,
- 30:24Speaker 1: let's try to let's know it.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Are you taking one slice?
- 30:28Speaker 1: Right? It's one o? My bad?
- 30:31Speaker 2: I mean you could, but then it becomes it becomes
- 30:34Speaker 2: too much bread. Okay, get you one good slice. Like
- 30:38Speaker 2: I said, I'm a nigga that I'll be overdoing it.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I like a lot of bacon. So I'm typing. I
- 30:43Speaker 2: put that dawn.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Look at this. This is hilarious. You gotta sort of
- 30:47Speaker 1: are you folding the bread? Yeah, I'm touching it with
- 30:51Speaker 1: my hands. Go ahead, do your thing the thing, you know,
- 30:54Speaker 1: do your thing here.
- 30:55Speaker 2: We go here, go ahead and get your bread.
- 30:57Speaker 1: I want to pack it.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, you gotta pack it right, you gotta get it right.
- 31:00Speaker 1: You got a lot, yeah, right here.
- 31:03Speaker 2: That's where you're at with Okay, Well, if that's what
- 31:04Speaker 2: you are, I'm gonna ad a couple of more, right.
- 31:06Speaker 2: You gotta put them to a cross like that. So
- 31:08Speaker 2: when they hit a crunch with it, mm hmmm, you
- 31:11Speaker 2: gotta squeeze it real quick, that's what I'm saying. I
- 31:14Speaker 2: put into it. Yeah, yeah, you gotta get in there
- 31:16Speaker 2: to get it crispy, and you got it.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I love how. I love nothing more, just so you know,
- 31:21Speaker 1: and when guests get really into this hole, yeah.
- 31:24Speaker 2: This ship real. I still eat this today. I ain't
- 31:27Speaker 2: even broke no more, and I was still our fuck
- 31:29Speaker 2: a bacon sign, which you sire. Yeah, you squished the bread,
- 31:32Speaker 2: you get it. Yeah, you're gonna yeah, you're that crunch
- 31:34Speaker 2: when you do that, Yeah, that's what. That's what you
- 31:35Speaker 2: get me, right, and then you get you get your
- 31:37Speaker 2: night up.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Now, simple, nobody, nobody.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I love it. I don't know how. I don't know
- 31:47Speaker 2: how you don't like it. I love it just salty
- 31:51Speaker 2: and sweet from the bread.
- 31:53Speaker 1: It's perfect and desperate measures. Yes, but you know, just
- 31:57Speaker 1: since I'm gonna rate his dish. You need them. Got condiments, ma'am?
- 32:01Speaker 2: But okay, so you tell me what the hell is connoiments?
- 32:03Speaker 2: Was gonna put sauce on the baking?
- 32:04Speaker 4: Male?
- 32:05Speaker 2: Em, I'm baking. That's your Caucasian side coming out as
- 32:11Speaker 2: a male. If you just say a miracle whip. If
- 32:13Speaker 2: you said miracle whip, I'm wishing. I love miracle with
- 32:19Speaker 2: miracle whip. What did it? That's crazy? And now I
- 32:21Speaker 2: think about it. I used to put miracle whip on
- 32:23Speaker 2: this joint. I used to put miracle whip on here.
- 32:26Speaker 2: That's the one thing I sure did. But is it
- 32:28Speaker 2: something about dry I.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Would put miracle whip on it.
- 32:32Speaker 2: It's just something about the sweet taste of the white
- 32:34Speaker 2: bread mixed with the salty of the turkey baking. And
- 32:38Speaker 2: it ain't greasy like pork bacon where red start falling apart.
- 32:42Speaker 2: You know what I mean? As I like about it,
- 32:44Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Yeah? This why you got
- 32:45Speaker 2: some good water man.
- 32:48Speaker 1: On the affordable meter, this dish. You won't start death.
- 32:50Speaker 1: You hate your protein, your carbs.
- 32:52Speaker 2: I'm telling you, and the bread gonna do it every
- 32:53Speaker 2: time like I'm telling you every time.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you go on this higher. So after the tiler
- 32:59Speaker 1: pair situation, is there any like, is there any conversation
- 33:05Speaker 1: about it? Are you fired or fired as?
- 33:07Speaker 2: Fired as fired as? But I respect mister Perry to
- 33:14Speaker 2: this day because look as you still eat. Nobody that
- 33:16Speaker 2: more fucker busting. Look at it. It's doing what it's
- 33:17Speaker 2: supposed to do. Stop planing. I know you when you
- 33:25Speaker 2: is how I gotta be. But yeah, it was right.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I shouldn't hate because the salt doesn't help.
- 33:29Speaker 2: I'm telling you I respect mister Perry though, because before
- 33:33Speaker 2: he fired me, he pulled me in his office, had
- 33:37Speaker 2: a conversation. He said, listen, man. He looked at me
- 33:40Speaker 2: and said, what is it you want out of this ship?
- 33:43Speaker 2: What is it like? Which want the money? The cars? Private? Jason,
- 33:46Speaker 2: I got it all. I'm doing it all. I've seen
- 33:48Speaker 2: it all, I've had it all I've been and that
- 33:50Speaker 2: what you want? You say, bro, that sh is in
- 33:51Speaker 2: your arms reach. But you're fucking up. You're fucking it
- 33:55Speaker 2: up for yourself, nobody else. You're fucking it up for yourself.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Now me, the arrogant fifteen year old I am. I'm
- 34:03Speaker 2: just thinking he's just talking to You're gonna get me
- 34:05Speaker 2: a talking to. Then we back to the money. I'm
- 34:07Speaker 2: not knowing. I'm about to get fired. I'm not knowing
- 34:09Speaker 2: as the last conversation I've ever had with mister Perry
- 34:11Speaker 2: in my life. You feel me like I'm not knowing.
- 34:13Speaker 2: I'm like, you gonna you don't talk to me. It's
- 34:15Speaker 2: like a like a principle at school, he gonna talk
- 34:17Speaker 2: to me, but eventually it's gonna be like whatever, send
- 34:19Speaker 2: me back to class, Like you know, I mean, so
- 34:22Speaker 2: he said, you fucking up and you know what I mean,
- 34:24Speaker 2: gave me kind of good talking to, Like, Bro, you
- 34:26Speaker 2: fucking up, and I mean, this shit ain't cool. Like bro,
- 34:28Speaker 2: you call you know how much money you cost me?
- 34:29Speaker 2: Like you kept it? Really know much money you cost me?
- 34:31Speaker 2: Like you cost me a lot of fucking money, bro,
- 34:33Speaker 2: Like money you don't have to replace. I could pay
- 34:36Speaker 2: you that I can't. You could do ten seasons of
- 34:38Speaker 2: this show. You still wouldn't have enough money to replace
- 34:40Speaker 2: what what it just cost me to work around you
- 34:43Speaker 2: being in jail because you're doing some dumb shit. In
- 34:47Speaker 2: my mind, I said, I feel like it wasn't no
- 34:49Speaker 2: dumb shit like I was. I was doing what I
- 34:51Speaker 2: feel like my dog would have did for me if
- 34:52Speaker 2: it was were reversed. Like, like, my loyalty has always
- 34:55Speaker 2: been one of my biggest downfalls in my wife. I
- 34:57Speaker 2: feel like I've always been loyal to I won't say
- 35:00Speaker 2: the wrong people, but I've always been loyal to a fault,
- 35:05Speaker 2: you know what I mean. And I've picked the wrong
- 35:07Speaker 2: time to display my lawyer when it's like sometimes you're like, look, brother,
- 35:09Speaker 2: you know I'll fool with you. You know I got
- 35:11Speaker 2: your back, But this is how to provide for my family.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Like my mama don't got no job at the time.
- 35:20Speaker 2: My brothers just locked up for bank robbery, Like I
- 35:22Speaker 2: come from a long line of monther Us that don't
- 35:24Speaker 2: really like asking for people ship, Like my brother are
- 35:26Speaker 2: very aware of the fact that their little brother's on TV.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Mama got different. Mama has funds and access to money
- 35:32Speaker 2: to help y'all. But my mama like, if y'all won't,
- 35:35Speaker 2: y'all to come to LA and I'm not sending y'all
- 35:37Speaker 2: their money back there to go buy whatever you're gonna
- 35:39Speaker 2: buy and try to sell it on the street, and
- 35:41Speaker 2: I'm not sending you no money to I'm not gonna
- 35:43Speaker 2: tell no king Pin I'm not gonna do that with
- 35:45Speaker 2: this money. You know what I mean. If you're gonna
- 35:46Speaker 2: comeut here, you're gonna come out here, you're gonna go
- 35:47Speaker 2: to set with your brother. I put you on the
- 35:50Speaker 2: on the payroll as his handler. One gonna be his handler.
- 35:54Speaker 2: That wont gonna be my personal assistant, and you know
- 35:56Speaker 2: what I mean. But they wasn't with that, Like, man,
- 35:58Speaker 2: I'm I'm thugging for real, like in the streets with this.
- 36:00Speaker 2: We're in the streets with this shit. So it's like
- 36:03Speaker 2: they they the measure, they took it. They went and
- 36:04Speaker 2: robbed the banks, so they gone, they doing time at
- 36:07Speaker 2: the time, you know what I mean. So it's like
- 36:09Speaker 2: everything depending on me. If I would have if I knew,
- 36:13Speaker 2: if I knew what I know now, I said, I
- 36:16Speaker 2: probably would have still found a way to help him
- 36:19Speaker 2: get that car back without his mama knowing and not
- 36:22Speaker 2: left him hanging the word, because at the end of
- 36:24Speaker 2: the day, I'm thinking in my head, like if you
- 36:25Speaker 2: get in trouble for this car being here, I'm still
- 36:28Speaker 2: I'm fucked too. Like regardless fast, it's literally nigga me
- 36:31Speaker 2: getting this car back. Say both of y'all, say both
- 36:33Speaker 2: of our ass because my MoMA like, s, so, what
- 36:35Speaker 2: the fuck y'all been doing with this car?
- 36:36Speaker 3: All?
- 36:36Speaker 2: They nigga? So so you what you told him to
- 36:38Speaker 2: come take his mama car and bring it to you.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I'm guilty by association regardless. So it's like, nigga, I
- 36:42Speaker 2: gotta say both of our ass you know what I mean.
- 36:44Speaker 2: That's how I was thinking about it. But like now
- 36:46Speaker 2: that I'm older, I probably be like, man, brother, look
- 36:49Speaker 2: we about to find a cab driver. I'm gonna pay
- 36:51Speaker 2: this cab driver to drive you and your mama car home.
- 36:54Speaker 2: I know something with another alternative.
- 36:58Speaker 1: It's funny because it's it's a slippers. So you have
- 37:00Speaker 1: these moms that are very caring and loving, right, and
- 37:04Speaker 1: you have your friendship to your friend. And I'm not
- 37:06Speaker 1: knocking any of the moms, and it was good that
- 37:08Speaker 1: they instilled the fear they did. But if you really
- 37:10Speaker 1: look at the root of the problem is it's kind
- 37:12Speaker 1: of like you're scared at your mama. And again not
- 37:16Speaker 1: knocking because I think my mom had this conversation with me.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I have a two year old, and she said, you know,
- 37:22Speaker 1: do you have enough control over her if she has
- 37:24Speaker 1: to cross the street and you say stop, you know,
- 37:27Speaker 1: don't cross. Will she be able to stop? And I
- 37:30Speaker 1: knew the answer was absolutely not, Like what never happened.
- 37:34Speaker 4: My daughter was like, but but but I say that
- 37:39Speaker 4: to say that I get you looking back and saying
- 37:42Speaker 4: I would do it all again because of these these
- 37:44Speaker 4: moral standards.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And I have the same problem. By the way, I'm
- 37:47Speaker 1: loyal to a fault like you could. I'll be like, well,
- 37:50Speaker 1: they whatever, But but I will say this though, but
- 37:53Speaker 1: if you look at it, the things that you guys
- 37:55Speaker 1: were running from was like the pure fear of your
- 37:58Speaker 1: moms from your mother.
- 38:00Speaker 2: The trouble for my mamas ain't ain't as bad as
- 38:03Speaker 2: the trouble.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Trouble that you guys got it.
- 38:05Speaker 2: If I look bad like me, we might to take
- 38:06Speaker 2: these little ass woomen being punish me can't hang out
- 38:09Speaker 2: for yeah, a week or two. But it's like nigga,
- 38:11Speaker 2: we will find a way to still hang out her.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But you can also, you know, if you look at psychology,
- 38:15Speaker 1: I always say, like, you know, young brains, they're not
- 38:17Speaker 1: fully mature, they're not weighing out all the options. And
- 38:19Speaker 1: I can see where it's like I was terrified of
- 38:22Speaker 1: my mom nigga, I would have done I would have
- 38:24Speaker 1: gotten my mom. So I get it. But going back
- 38:28Speaker 1: to the Tyler Perry situation, and it's good that you
- 38:32Speaker 1: talk about it and you're going back and forth because
- 38:33Speaker 1: I think it really gets us to see like your
- 38:36Speaker 1: your core character, like where your values are at. Like
- 38:38Speaker 1: I thought about it a hundred times. Would I have
- 38:40Speaker 1: done it again? Yeah I would.
- 38:42Speaker 2: I just probably would have did it a little different differently,
- 38:45Speaker 2: even thought it's not what you do is how you
- 38:47Speaker 2: do it, So I would have probably switched away. I
- 38:49Speaker 2: went about it. Yeah, somebody like like I said, I was,
- 38:52Speaker 2: I'm a young nigga. I'm fifteen years old, but I
- 38:54Speaker 2: got a debit card, I'm having I got a amount
- 38:56Speaker 2: of money on my car. So I been like, Bro,
- 38:58Speaker 2: there got to be an adult with a dry I
- 39:00Speaker 2: can pay bro, drive this car to this location. Don't
- 39:03Speaker 2: go a step further.
- 39:04Speaker 1: But I think there's there were so many things like
- 39:06Speaker 1: even when you hear the story, it's like you have
- 39:08Speaker 1: this young person who's acquired some kind of status, who
- 39:11Speaker 1: has friends of status. You know, even when you guys
- 39:13Speaker 1: get arrested and you're like around each other. I remember
- 39:17Speaker 1: being like fifteen or sixteen, And the first time I
- 39:19Speaker 1: recursed was like behind my mom's back. She walks in
- 39:22Speaker 1: the room, she catches me cursing. But I'm amongst my
- 39:24Speaker 1: friends like that, F and B. I don't remember the words,
- 39:27Speaker 1: but all of those. My mom walked in and I said,
- 39:29Speaker 1: oh my god, this is the day I die.
- 39:32Speaker 4: You know.
- 39:32Speaker 1: But when you get around your friends at that age,
- 39:35Speaker 1: you're like, I'm big and bad, you know. And that's
- 39:38Speaker 1: the part of being growing up, growing up right, so
- 39:42Speaker 1: logical everything you did seems like totally rational at your age.
- 39:45Speaker 1: And then and then a fifteen year old with responsibilities,
- 39:48Speaker 1: who's working, who's earning his own money, who's providing for
- 39:50Speaker 1: his family. But take me back.
- 39:52Speaker 2: His attention was like get it done and get to work.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah, get to get it done, get to work. But
- 39:57Speaker 1: Tyler Pierr has this conversation. Does he fire you at
- 39:59Speaker 1: the end of the conversation.
- 40:01Speaker 2: No, he has a conversation with me, and I think
- 40:04Speaker 2: I finished, I do my filming whatever. They shoot my
- 40:07Speaker 2: scenes out for that day and I'm gone. They flew
- 40:10Speaker 2: me out like the next day. So it was it
- 40:13Speaker 2: was a silent firing. The firing part was silent. I
- 40:16Speaker 2: just had to get the picture. Oh nigga, they don't.
- 40:18Speaker 2: I'm not coming back, like they're done with me. And
- 40:21Speaker 2: it was it was people that was upset about it though,
- 40:23Speaker 2: because they were like, bro, he's a kid. You gotta
- 40:25Speaker 2: this is your This is the opportunity to be you
- 40:29Speaker 2: know what I mean to to to to kind of be.
- 40:32Speaker 2: I said, my daddy was in my life for show.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But it's like, this is the opportunity to give him
- 40:36Speaker 2: that that lessons as a man, that that's that he
- 40:39Speaker 2: looks up to that as a man, Like I do
- 40:41Speaker 2: feel like he could have went about it differently. They'll
- 40:43Speaker 2: cost you money, yeah, but money all that that shit.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Come back the opportunity to teach a lesson to a
- 40:48Speaker 2: young black man that comes from nothing, just like you
- 40:51Speaker 2: come from nothing, and and and it showed me like, no, bro,
- 40:54Speaker 2: come on now, you can't. I feel like I feel
- 40:57Speaker 2: like he could have took that opportunity and did a
- 40:59Speaker 2: little bit differently.
- 41:03Speaker 1: I did see Tyler Perry's documentary. Did you ever get
- 41:06Speaker 1: to see it?
- 41:07Speaker 2: I haven't watched the whole thing, but I do his
- 41:09Speaker 2: story just from working with him.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Kind of I didn't know his story, but I do
- 41:12Speaker 1: know like I remember when I first moved to La
- 41:14Speaker 1: hearing about his plays or whatever. People are like talking
- 41:17Speaker 1: about this guy who had this play, and it was
- 41:19Speaker 1: like maybe a tape that was going around or something,
- 41:21Speaker 1: or I just remember people talking about it. But when
- 41:23Speaker 1: I saw the documentary and everything he went through, I
- 41:25Speaker 1: think that I don't know if, especially as a teenager,
- 41:31Speaker 1: like it's sometimes grace can be a slippery slope. You
- 41:35Speaker 1: give someone grace.
- 41:36Speaker 2: And I don't know if I would appreciate it. The
- 41:38Speaker 2: reason probably would have kept sucking up.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Like it's it's a slippery slope, and I'm learning
- 41:41Speaker 1: that as an adult, Like you can give grace, but
- 41:43Speaker 1: it's a slippery slope because there's a thin line between
- 41:46Speaker 1: grace and disrespect. Sometimes.
- 41:48Speaker 2: I just you know, like if the roles were reversed
- 41:50Speaker 2: and I'm in that position, I take that young nigga
- 41:52Speaker 2: under my wing.
- 41:52Speaker 1: Like nah, I would have been like, I'm gonna make
- 41:55Speaker 1: sure you.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Don't fuck up no more, Nigga'm about to show you
- 41:57Speaker 2: some ship that we're like, Nigga, you know, like I
- 41:59Speaker 2: gotta get to this, but also I gotta get to that.
- 42:02Speaker 2: So I know the only way to get to that
- 42:04Speaker 2: is the following the foot he I gotta not fuck
- 42:06Speaker 2: up in the more, follow in these footstep, like show
- 42:08Speaker 2: a young nigga away, Bro, I'm a young nigga that
- 42:09Speaker 2: really come from nothing. Every nigga I ever looked up
- 42:11Speaker 2: to them being is a feling my daddy, every last
- 42:14Speaker 2: one of my I got one brother that ain't a
- 42:15Speaker 2: fella and he lives in fucking Australia and I and
- 42:18Speaker 2: before he lived in Australia, he went to college and
- 42:20Speaker 2: fucking South or North Dakota or something like that. And like,
- 42:24Speaker 2: we got the same daddy, not the same mama. So
- 42:25Speaker 2: we're close, but we weren't in the same household. Every
- 42:28Speaker 2: man in the household that I came up in. That
- 42:32Speaker 2: was my example. Nigga, thug it out until you can't
- 42:34Speaker 2: no more. Like that's just what I knew. That's what
- 42:37Speaker 2: I That's still just what I know, you know what
- 42:38Speaker 2: I mean, Like that's just how I was, That's how
- 42:40Speaker 2: I was brought up in a sense, like my mama
- 42:42Speaker 2: did her absolute best. But it's a young man is
- 42:45Speaker 2: not going to model himself after his mother. Yeah, no,
- 42:48Speaker 2: it's impossible. I'm gonna model myself after the men in
- 42:50Speaker 2: my life. Look up to me. Like I said, my brother,
- 42:52Speaker 2: the closest brother I got to my age, is ten
- 42:54Speaker 2: years older than me. So when I was born, he
- 42:58Speaker 2: was ten years old. By the time I'm able to
- 43:00Speaker 2: really pay attention to what he's doing, he's thirteen, fourteen,
- 43:02Speaker 2: and then I got a sixteen. I got an eighteen
- 43:05Speaker 2: at eighteen, bro gone doing ten years old, just done
- 43:07Speaker 2: doing ten years I remembered vividly the police coming and
- 43:10Speaker 2: knocking on my mama door taking him away. I remember
- 43:14Speaker 2: that seeing that, probably five years old. Maybe I might
- 43:17Speaker 2: have been four.
- 43:18Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean, I.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Was young at shit like. I remember seeing that vividly.
- 43:21Speaker 2: I remember seeing the police kicking the door in my
- 43:23Speaker 2: daddy house and take my daddy to jail, foot on
- 43:26Speaker 2: my daddy neck, foot on my brother. I remember seeing that.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Everything that I seen and everything that everybody I looked
- 43:32Speaker 2: up to was full fledged gangsters like I ain't. That's
- 43:34Speaker 2: just all I've ever had to look up to was
- 43:35Speaker 2: niggas that were in the streets. I've never really had
- 43:38Speaker 2: nobody that was on a positive path take me under
- 43:43Speaker 2: their wing and be like this the way it goes.
- 43:44Speaker 1: A little bro, Now to your career now because I
- 43:47Speaker 1: know you're and I don't want to speak on I
- 43:49Speaker 1: really don't like to speak bump. But since we know
- 43:52Speaker 1: some of the same people, you have someone like Nile
- 43:55Speaker 1: or Nick. Yeah, nigas one of those people like he
- 43:58Speaker 1: sees something in you. I want to say, niggas the.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Nick I'm a fuck up. Huh, Nick think I'm a
- 44:03Speaker 2: fuck up?
- 44:04Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm gonna say this.
- 44:05Speaker 2: I feel like Nick loves me but keeps me at
- 44:07Speaker 2: a distance because he feels like I'm a liability. I
- 44:09Speaker 2: think that's just me being honest.
- 44:11Speaker 1: So I feel so.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Nick loved the shit out of me, though, but it's
- 44:14Speaker 2: like he think I feel like he thinks I'm too
- 44:16Speaker 2: hard headed. I don't think he feel like I don't
- 44:17Speaker 2: listen or I won't listen. But like Nigga, you never
- 44:19Speaker 2: really told me nothing to listen to.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Well, yeah, because I feel like I worked with Nick
- 44:23Speaker 1: for like ten years, and I would see Nick joke
- 44:25Speaker 1: with like a lot of people around me. We were
- 44:27Speaker 1: very close in age. I think everyone Nick surround himself
- 44:30Speaker 1: for the most part, are like twenty years older than him,
- 44:32Speaker 1: like you know or now.
- 44:33Speaker 2: He's always like now, Nick has always been a little bros.
- 44:37Speaker 2: So Nick has never been the big brody like, nah,
- 44:39Speaker 2: come here, my nigga, but he doesn't now he has
- 44:42Speaker 2: now like more so like more recently. But I think
- 44:45Speaker 2: for me, like I think Nick just think I'm so
- 44:47Speaker 2: far gone. But it's like, Nigga, I just am who
- 44:49Speaker 2: I am. If you take some time to have a
- 44:51Speaker 2: conversation with Bobby J. The man, because you know Bobby J.
- 44:54Speaker 2: The kid, and you can't understand how that kid you
- 44:57Speaker 2: knew turn in But Nigga, you gotta understand I was
- 44:59Speaker 2: a kid that was trained to be the keys.
- 45:01Speaker 1: But that's what I want to I want to. I
- 45:04Speaker 1: want to say this about him because I worked with
- 45:06Speaker 1: him for ten years and he would joke with everybody.
- 45:08Speaker 1: He you know, he I'd be lying to say, Nick,
- 45:11Speaker 1: he's closer my age group. Whether or not I thought
- 45:14Speaker 1: he was okay or attractive looking was whatever, But I
- 45:17Speaker 1: just knew because we're around the same age. We work together,
- 45:20Speaker 1: you know industry be like, oh they I cook it up,
- 45:22Speaker 1: and so we were very very business or whatever. Yeah,
- 45:26Speaker 1: but I remember like the one or two times where
- 45:29Speaker 1: Nick was like, you're fucking up. Yeah, and his you know,
- 45:35Speaker 1: never ever had no real conversation, but there was one
- 45:37Speaker 1: or two conversations where he was like, you may want
- 45:40Speaker 1: to reconsider some of your your moves, you know. And
- 45:43Speaker 1: so I think just personality wise, he's one of those
- 45:46Speaker 1: people that he don't really mentor he's not even.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Like your best friend personality.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he had.
- 45:53Speaker 2: More so like I will now i'd be like, let
- 45:57Speaker 2: me tell you something.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Ain't nobody had my back morning now, but now sometimes
- 46:02Speaker 1: can stab me in the like our last conversation he
- 46:04Speaker 1: says something and I didn't take his car after this,
- 46:07Speaker 1: and you know he don't listen, thank god, he don't
- 46:09Speaker 1: listen to all my episodes. But but now I think
- 46:12Speaker 1: it's a straight shooter. And when you when the chips
- 46:13Speaker 1: are down, I don't give a fuck if you work
- 46:16Speaker 1: with now you never had a real conversation with him.
- 46:19Speaker 1: He is that nigga that you can be like, he gonna.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Take I'd have been in jail, fucked up. Now he
- 46:27Speaker 2: paid pound of money. Yeah, now lawyer money.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Hey did you you know Dorian two?
- 46:33Speaker 2: Right? Yeah?
- 46:34Speaker 1: All them niggas is uh solid, I would say all them.
- 46:37Speaker 1: And but I think the way Nick moves is I
- 46:40Speaker 1: think he pays attention to And I've said this to people.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I think he trusts no one and he watches everybody
- 46:47Speaker 1: so like you'll be like I walked in the room,
- 46:48Speaker 1: he didn't even say hi. It's like Nick knew you
- 46:50Speaker 1: were there before you entered the building. Like every move
- 47:08Speaker 1: is his chest and he doesn't do the controversial stuff absolutely,
- 47:12Speaker 1: And like I said, the only two times he's ever
- 47:14Speaker 1: pulled me to the side when it was like a
- 47:16Speaker 1: for sure fuck up, and it was a very short
- 47:18Speaker 1: like you may want to reroute because this could end bad.
- 47:22Speaker 1: I've got I've got.
- 47:23Speaker 2: That from now. I've never even got that from Nick
- 47:25Speaker 2: to be like, hey bro, what the fuck? Like you tripping?
- 47:28Speaker 2: Nigga figured that out, you know what I mean. But now,
- 47:31Speaker 2: on the other hand, it's been like come here. But
- 47:33Speaker 2: now at the same time, now has a better understanding
- 47:37Speaker 2: of who I am, my what I like, my trauma,
- 47:41Speaker 2: what causes me to be. He got a better understanding
- 47:44Speaker 2: of that than than Nick. Does you know what I'm saying, Like,
- 47:46Speaker 2: so I can. That's why I feel like now it's
- 47:48Speaker 2: easier for to be able to come to me like
- 47:50Speaker 2: hey man, what the fuck is you doing?
- 47:51Speaker 1: You tripped me?
- 47:51Speaker 2: I know that this is the circumstance. I know this happened.
- 47:53Speaker 2: I know this happened. To know that happened. But nigga,
- 47:56Speaker 2: everything that happened has nothing to do with the next
- 48:00Speaker 2: ten years of your life, the decisions you're finna make
- 48:02Speaker 2: and how you set yourself up a success or failure. Yeah, yeah,
- 48:05Speaker 2: and you know what I mean. Like I said, I
- 48:06Speaker 2: apprecialize that there's nothing there's nothing bad about it. It's
- 48:09Speaker 2: just Nick is not the mentoring type. And that's cool,
- 48:11Speaker 2: Like you know what I mean, Yeah, it's just for me.
- 48:13Speaker 2: I've always looked at Nick like big brother, because I've
- 48:17Speaker 2: known the niggas since I.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Was like, hey, you've been around, Yeah, you've been.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Around, Like I made Nika the Kids Choice Awards, and
- 48:23Speaker 2: you can find the pictures on Google, Like if you
- 48:25Speaker 2: call Google my name and google Bobby Nick and you'll
- 48:27Speaker 2: find the picture of Nick with a big stupid baggy
- 48:29Speaker 2: jersey on some fucking headband neck braids.
- 48:33Speaker 1: But I will say this, and I told my little
- 48:36Speaker 1: brother this when he was working. Nick was like, I
- 48:39Speaker 1: think just just just because I've been kind of in
- 48:43Speaker 1: the offices versus on sets, I'll just say, like observation
- 48:48Speaker 1: I told legal this, like, if you're in the room,
- 48:52Speaker 1: he fucks with you, and he believes in you, period
- 48:54Speaker 1: you period. If you are in the room, he made
- 48:57Speaker 1: that exactly a decision. Nick has always believe than you.
- 49:00Speaker 1: I just think, like I said, he has that million
- 49:04Speaker 1: layers of fencing around him as he should. As he
- 49:07Speaker 1: should because if you know his story, it's like, yeah, nigga,
- 49:10Speaker 1: I would have a million layers of fencing. But to
- 49:12Speaker 1: go back to your story, did you eventually I know
- 49:17Speaker 1: you mentioned now, but did you start to seek out
- 49:20Speaker 1: mentors at some point or did you just stumble upon you.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I ain't gotten and I'll just be learning as I
- 49:26Speaker 2: go for real, like I learned from my mistakes. I
- 49:28Speaker 2: bump my head and I know, like I don't want
- 49:30Speaker 2: that same not right there in the middle of my
- 49:32Speaker 2: forehead no more. So let me figure it out. Like
- 49:35Speaker 2: I've never I said, my dad was always a person
- 49:38Speaker 2: that gave game. But by the time me and my
- 49:41Speaker 2: daddy got to be like where it was because I
- 49:44Speaker 2: was in LA a lot of years. I wasn't in
- 49:46Speaker 2: Kansas City, but my dad. When my daddy did get
- 49:48Speaker 2: out of prison, I was living in Los Angeles. He
- 49:50Speaker 2: was in Kansas City, and then by the time I
- 49:52Speaker 2: came back home, I'm already smoking weed. I'm already kind
- 49:55Speaker 2: of doing my own thing. I'm already kind of shaping
- 49:57Speaker 2: and molding myself into who I believe that I want
- 50:00Speaker 2: and who I'm supposed to be. So, you know what
- 50:02Speaker 2: I mean, My daddy couldn't do really couldn't really do
- 50:04Speaker 2: much but advise and and you know what I mean,
- 50:07Speaker 2: kind of sit there. And then that's another thing my daddy.
- 50:08Speaker 2: My daddy was person like nigga, gonna have to You're
- 50:10Speaker 2: gonna have to bump your head because you're hard headed.
- 50:13Speaker 2: That I've always been hard headed, Like I was a
- 50:15Speaker 2: hard headed kid. I was a hard headed teenager. So,
- 50:17Speaker 2: like I said, I've always learned from my own experience.
- 50:22Speaker 2: But at the same time, I don't think I think
- 50:24Speaker 2: if somebody was to be like, now, come here, nigga,
- 50:27Speaker 2: learned from learn what I'm about to tell you, learn
- 50:29Speaker 2: what I'm about to show you, I wouldn't. I wouldn't
- 50:32Speaker 2: be opposed to that.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Now do you think that that person would have to be?
- 50:35Speaker 1: Because I know what mentors. I'm a die hard mentor freak.
- 50:40Speaker 1: I mentor people, and I'm like everyone, I know, you
- 50:44Speaker 1: get a mentor. But I think with men and what
- 50:48Speaker 1: I've seen over the years when men is like, I
- 50:51Speaker 1: feel like, it can't just be any guy that.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Look up to somebody that you can see you're somebody
- 50:58Speaker 2: that's where you want to be or further or somebody
- 51:00Speaker 2: that you like. Okay, yeah, I can listen to you
- 51:02Speaker 2: because you got the formula to go where I'm trying
- 51:05Speaker 2: to go or be for You've been where I where
- 51:08Speaker 2: I'm in the direction I'm headed, you know what I mean.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Like like, but it's hard, But.
- 51:12Speaker 1: It's also not just that, it's like, can you relate
- 51:14Speaker 1: to where I'm from? It has to be the cocktail, right,
- 51:18Speaker 1: especially I think for a black man, it has to
- 51:20Speaker 1: be that cocktail of you know, you can't just be
- 51:23Speaker 1: successful and you came from money. It has to be
- 51:25Speaker 1: you successful and your dad and similar to my dad,
- 51:28Speaker 1: and then we could talk about you mentoring me, right,
- 51:31Speaker 1: Is that in my correctness?
- 51:33Speaker 2: Yeah? For sure for sure? Okay, so yeah, definitely, that's
- 51:36Speaker 2: definitely a big part of it, for sure, right. And
- 51:38Speaker 2: I think that's why, like I would, I think that's
- 51:41Speaker 2: why like for me, I personally like damn, like I
- 51:43Speaker 2: wish Bro would be like, Hey Noah, come in, Bro,
- 51:45Speaker 2: because you somebody I've always looked kid before we even
- 51:48Speaker 2: actually work together. I stopped Nick on the red car, like,
- 51:50Speaker 2: hey Nick, what's up? Like nigga, Like I didn't say
- 51:54Speaker 2: these words. I'm like, man, I fuck with you. Yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 2: I don't remember what, but in so many words, that's
- 51:59Speaker 2: what I'm saying, Like, Bro, I'm I'm a fan. I
- 52:01Speaker 2: look up to you, nigga. What you're doing in Hollywood,
- 52:04Speaker 2: where you started, Nigga. That's the path I'm trying. That's
- 52:07Speaker 2: what I'm trying to get to. Like I see what
- 52:08Speaker 2: you're doing. And at this time, niggas probably fresh off
- 52:10Speaker 2: a drum line like this. This is like young Nick,
- 52:13Speaker 2: like this is this.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Two thousand it's two thousand and five, Like you know
- 52:16Speaker 1: what I'm saying.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Like this is this young boy like and I'm super
- 52:18Speaker 2: super young bull. So it's like I said, I think,
- 52:21Speaker 2: I think eventually a conversation will be had, but it's
- 52:24Speaker 2: like the nigga doesn't have time for conversation. Like sometimes
- 52:29Speaker 2: the nigga's so busy he don't even have times down
- 52:32Speaker 2: and talk to you. He barely like what's up? He
- 52:35Speaker 2: barely has time to sit down and talk to himself
- 52:36Speaker 2: here his own thoughts sometimes because it's always something a
- 52:39Speaker 2: phone call or a conference call of meeting. So it's
- 52:41Speaker 2: like it's not nothing again, there's nothing that he's doing
- 52:44Speaker 2: wrong or bad. It's just like Nigga. Sometimes it doesn't
- 52:47Speaker 2: go the way it's supposed to. But I said, I'm
- 52:48Speaker 2: then at thirty years old, Like I shouldn't need that,
- 52:51Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like I should be able
- 52:53Speaker 2: to well, I shouldn't even need it, but it's it's
- 52:55Speaker 2: good to have it. I shouldn't need it. I should
- 52:57Speaker 2: be able to see where I'm going or I'm headed,
- 53:00Speaker 2: and what I need to do wrong, I mean, what
- 53:02Speaker 2: I need to do differently to get what I'm trying
- 53:04Speaker 2: to get. At this age in my life, it shouldn't
- 53:06Speaker 2: be no like at in your early like seventeen eighteen
- 53:09Speaker 2: year I feel like it's needed, it's kind of needed
- 53:11Speaker 2: to have that, especially because becoming a man is different,
- 53:14Speaker 2: like it it's becoming a man that that's a different monster.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Like when you're really finding out who you are as
- 53:19Speaker 2: a man versus who you thought you were or who
- 53:22Speaker 2: you who you who you wanted to be with it's
- 53:25Speaker 2: kind of face like, no, this is who you are,
- 53:27Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. Like, I've always wanted to
- 53:29Speaker 2: be the completely upstanding, straightforward citizen nigga, no trouble whatever.
- 53:35Speaker 2: And I never wanted to be a felon or you
- 53:39Speaker 2: I mean, nigga that and broke the law or somebody
- 53:41Speaker 2: that you know what i mean, been in jail or whatever.
- 53:43Speaker 2: I've never wanted to be that, but that was just
- 53:46Speaker 2: what I had a favoriteality, Like, Nigga, that is who
- 53:48Speaker 2: I am. That's not that I mean, that's that's that
- 53:50Speaker 2: is who I am or who I became. But that
- 53:52Speaker 2: doesn't have to be the end of the story. I
- 53:54Speaker 2: can grow from that. But it's like, Nigga, what necessary
- 53:57Speaker 2: steps do you got to take within yourself to grow
- 54:01Speaker 2: from that? You know what I'm saying. So that's where
- 54:02Speaker 2: I'm in life now, just figuring out the things I
- 54:04Speaker 2: got to do differently to grow and to elevate, you
- 54:08Speaker 2: know what i mean, without somebody being like, oh here, bro,
- 54:10Speaker 2: come on, I'm gonna show you the way. Fuck that, nigga,
- 54:13Speaker 2: show yourself the way. You've been showing yourself the way,
- 54:15Speaker 2: and you done got damn far. You may be as
- 54:17Speaker 2: far as you wanted to go with your lot.
- 54:18Speaker 1: Fust I was gonna say, yeah, if you look at
- 54:21Speaker 1: I think I've seen a video online and I'm gonna
- 54:23Speaker 1: butcher it. But it was like a video where all
- 54:25Speaker 1: these kids were wanting a race, and I think they
- 54:27Speaker 1: had different kids starting at different starting points, and the
- 54:30Speaker 1: kids that were less privileged started from way further back.
- 54:33Speaker 1: So when you look at your race, you've done amazing.
- 54:36Speaker 1: Matter of fact, when I got the opportunity to interview you,
- 54:39Speaker 1: it's kind of beautiful because it was like, I've worked
- 54:41Speaker 1: with you, but i've seen more like crossing paths. I
- 54:44Speaker 1: don't think we've ever really had conversations, but it's kind
- 54:47Speaker 1: it's beautiful when you get someone of your caliber into
- 54:50Speaker 1: our studio and it's just like you see the growth
- 54:53Speaker 1: and you don't know how that person's gonna come off.
- 54:54Speaker 1: You don't know if they're gonna be like cocky, arrogant
- 54:57Speaker 1: or you know. I've seen people come in here like
- 54:59Speaker 1: you've never been broke. It's amazing, you know, she I'd have.
- 55:03Speaker 2: Been up, back down, back up again. Damn I'm slipping
- 55:07Speaker 2: and falling, but I ain't down yet. I'm back, man,
- 55:09Speaker 2: I haven't seen every walk of this ship.
- 55:11Speaker 1: And you've and you've managed. Now, how have you been
- 55:13Speaker 1: managing your money and stuff? Has that been? When did
- 55:16Speaker 1: you start to really learn how to manage it?
- 55:19Speaker 2: She when the nigga started catching cases and lawyer fees
- 55:22Speaker 2: and bond money, and she like that started like damn, nigga,
- 55:25Speaker 2: but you just about to chain last month.
- 55:26Speaker 1: But wait cases for what, dumb chef? Okay, so like
- 55:31Speaker 1: keeping But.
- 55:32Speaker 2: I mean, like I called, I called a gun case.
- 55:34Speaker 2: And then before that, I caught a case before I
- 55:37Speaker 2: got in a fistfight and broke the boy jaw. And
- 55:40Speaker 2: because of the jaw being broken, it was a great
- 55:43Speaker 2: bodily injury and it became a felony and blah blah blah.
- 55:46Speaker 2: And like I said, because I was poorly managing my money,
- 55:49Speaker 2: I couldn't afford I couldn't afford to pay lawyer until
- 55:54Speaker 2: far down the line, and I went on. I went
- 55:56Speaker 2: on a run for six months, like I was like,
- 55:58Speaker 2: fuck the ship. They would have to come get me,
- 56:00Speaker 2: and I was able to. I came back to l A,
- 56:03Speaker 2: I got locked up. I called Nile. Now that's unk
- 56:08Speaker 2: to me, Like that's what I called. I called him unk,
- 56:09Speaker 2: Like now I'm fucked up. I'm here, the lawyer say
- 56:14Speaker 2: three thousand in front. If you can help me with
- 56:16Speaker 2: that upfront, I can figure out a way get me
- 56:18Speaker 2: out of here, and I can. I could scrape up
- 56:19Speaker 2: whatever the fuck else. I gotta scrape up and make
- 56:22Speaker 2: it make sense. And as soon as I'm back on
- 56:24Speaker 2: my feet, I'm gonna pay you back. You know what
- 56:25Speaker 2: I mean, Like whatever you wanna be like nigga, and
- 56:27Speaker 2: Nigga sent it before I can hang up the jail phone,
- 56:29Speaker 2: like yeah it was it.
- 56:30Speaker 1: Was d Let me tell you something that is.
- 56:33Speaker 2: That's why like a nigga, I ain't gonna lie like
- 56:36Speaker 2: a nigga can't really Nigga can't really say nothing bad
- 56:39Speaker 2: about dude to me, Bro, it ain't a time where Nigga,
- 56:41Speaker 2: I'm gonna go to war for dude because he didn't
- 56:44Speaker 2: have to. He ain't have to, bro, Like the nigga
- 56:47Speaker 2: got kids, he got responsibilities, got a wife, he got
- 56:49Speaker 2: a household, and he's the song provider for like Nigga,
- 56:52Speaker 2: Like you didn't have to go and I don't get
- 56:54Speaker 2: it was three thousand. I don't give it was five thousand.
- 56:56Speaker 2: It was three hundred my nigga, whatever it was, nigga,
- 56:59Speaker 2: you win your pocket and you send it. I don't
- 57:01Speaker 2: know what your financial standing was at the time. I
- 57:03Speaker 2: don't know what you had going on, what responsibilities you had,
- 57:06Speaker 2: you know what I'm saying. Who knows, But you didn't
- 57:08Speaker 2: make it. Wasn't you. It didn't matter. You said what
- 57:11Speaker 2: I got you and nigga before I get off that
- 57:14Speaker 2: jail phone, I'm like, I'm like, you think you think
- 57:16Speaker 2: you think nigga help us out, like ship, you can
- 57:18Speaker 2: call that nigga, but I'm gonna send you what I'm
- 57:20Speaker 2: gonna send you right now. You can try to call
- 57:22Speaker 2: that nigga and I'm like, I don't be like, I
- 57:26Speaker 2: ain't gonna call you, you know, Like, yeah, I'm gonna be wrong.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Though there's been a time where I did where I
- 57:31Speaker 2: did and Nick came through for that.
- 57:33Speaker 1: I've asked Nick for money, but let me just tell
- 57:35Speaker 1: you something. There's always accountants that I got to talk to,
- 57:39Speaker 1: and I.
- 57:40Speaker 2: Never go to the accountant Nick. Nick. Nick treated me
- 57:42Speaker 2: like a little bro and was like, I'm gonna Apple
- 57:44Speaker 2: pay you when I never discredit like I said, like nigga,
- 57:47Speaker 2: he out of Yeah. So waited that mentor, but what
- 57:49Speaker 2: he called him and said, hey.
- 57:50Speaker 1: Nick, I need you.
- 57:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the nigga. The nigga was there for me.
- 57:54Speaker 2: And he not only did he give me, somebody said, hey,
- 57:56Speaker 2: look IM about to come and put you in this movie.
- 57:57Speaker 2: Get you a couple of extra dollars in your pocket. Yeah,
- 58:00Speaker 2: like quick fast, like nigga. And like I said, like,
- 58:03Speaker 2: I'm appreciative of that, like nigga. Fuck fuck the mentorshipga.
- 58:07Speaker 1: When I needed you, it was there for me. And
- 58:10Speaker 1: now you're doing willing out and you guys are working
- 58:12Speaker 1: together consistently.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Absolutely, So.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Where do you see yourself going from here? Like what
- 58:19Speaker 1: is the plan?
- 58:21Speaker 2: Man?
- 58:21Speaker 1: And and is there really can there ever really be
- 58:24Speaker 1: a plan in this entertainment business, because I feel like
- 58:27Speaker 1: I'm say, yeah.
- 58:28Speaker 2: This should be so iffy dog like unless you're a
- 58:31Speaker 2: nigga with like unless you're a nigga with like a
- 58:33Speaker 2: like a Kevin Hard or like a Nick where you
- 58:35Speaker 2: got a production and you can you can go and
- 58:37Speaker 2: put some money behind what you want to do it.
- 58:40Speaker 2: It's really hard to have a plan for this side
- 58:43Speaker 2: of the ship, Like you know what I mean, Like
- 58:44Speaker 2: I said, then, my real love is music, like if
- 58:47Speaker 2: the person has me what my playing myself at selling
- 58:49Speaker 2: arenas doing what I really and genuinely truly love to do.
- 58:52Speaker 1: That when you say music like rap music or okay,
- 58:55Speaker 1: so like.
- 58:56Speaker 2: That's that's always been me and like because for me,
- 59:00Speaker 2: like when I rap, it gives people an inside and
- 59:02Speaker 2: looked like y'all have seen, y'all know that y'all fell
- 59:04Speaker 2: in love with these roles I've played. Y'all have seen me.
- 59:06Speaker 2: Y'all claim y'all seen me grow up, but not really,
- 59:09Speaker 2: y'all seen the roles I played growing up, But y'all don't.
- 59:12Speaker 2: Y'all didn't get see me. Y'a didn't go home with
- 59:13Speaker 2: me when the cameras went off, y'all didn't see y'all
- 59:15Speaker 2: didn't know what my reality was. Y'all just knew what
- 59:17Speaker 2: y'all seen on TV. So it's like that music always
- 59:20Speaker 2: gives people kind of the inside look because I'm not
- 59:22Speaker 2: rapping as nobody else but Bobby. So the shit I'm
- 59:24Speaker 2: talking about, the shit I'm speaking on. Should I really
- 59:27Speaker 2: live through? Sh'all really did to survive? Should I really
- 59:29Speaker 2: had to go through? Should I already learn from spots
- 59:31Speaker 2: where I already bumped my head, like that's giving the
- 59:33Speaker 2: people the chance to really get to know me. And
- 59:35Speaker 2: I feel like that's important for people to really know
- 59:37Speaker 2: who Bobby is because so many people haven't misconstrued based
- 59:40Speaker 2: off of what y'all watched me do on TV for
- 59:43Speaker 2: the longest time, Like they just think, oh, this nigga
- 59:45Speaker 2: was a silver spoon kid.
- 59:46Speaker 1: He had it all good, he was, especially when you
- 59:48Speaker 1: start that young.
- 59:49Speaker 2: Yeah, you know what I mean, Nigga think it's all good.
- 59:50Speaker 2: You know. For one, Listen, you don't get in Hollywood
- 59:53Speaker 2: right now, just get rich immediately twenty years ago when
- 59:56Speaker 2: I started, you really, they wasn't giving out money. How
- 59:58Speaker 2: they giving out now, Nigga's becoming a millionaire in a year,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: Like year year top. You do some cool shit on
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: you get a buzz on the internet, you're a millionaire
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: immediately there in there. If not a millionaire, you damn close.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: They gonna keep you pumping and working, and like the
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: internet is so powerful now. The Internet was just becoming
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: a thing when I came up, So it wasn't like
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: and you couldn't go and you couldn't go and grab
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: your own audience. The only time you had an audience
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: is when then people put you in front of one.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: And even with the Internet, I noticed it's like how
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: fast you take to it? Like the new, the new
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: uh whatever, drop, It's like you gotta switch over. It's
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: a very tricky thing because now it's like it's industry
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: versus Internet. Don't you kind of feel like that. It's
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: like motherfucker may get cast it because he has two
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: million followers or you know, like it's kind of weirder.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Certain and certain situations. But there's certain people that be
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: like that. I feel a genuinely talented that are on
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: the Internet, and I feel like they deserve.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Of course a lot. You know, a lot of those
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: people work very hard.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: Yeah, sticks absolutely so, Like you know what I mean,
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: you built that audience. You you worked hard at what
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: you You mastered that internet ship and then open the door
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: for the industry. How can I be mad or feel
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: like you you did less work than me? Your work,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: The work was just different work. I want to say
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: you did less work, You just did different work than me.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: Now, if times ever get rough, God forbid, are you
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: ever gonna be open to taking a regular job?
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: You think so?
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I don't got like I don't give a fuck.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: I'll take a risk to you.
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: I got kids, I gotta I gotta sing, and they
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: got a daughter on the way in two months. Like nigga,
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: it ain't even about me. It's bigger than me and
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: my pride. They gotta eat, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: So it's like fuck that if if it get if
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: it gets to that, man, hey sign me up. I'm
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: not gonna give me a regular a good regular job.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: You ain't gonna try to go I'm gonna go work
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: at McDonald's. Of course, I'm don't go work and go Damn.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: I'm not gonna be the clerk of Walmart.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Yah, you're gonna work.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: You're not gonna be bagging nobody's groceries at ralfs. But
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna go get me a motherfucker job where I
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: feel like, yeah, I can go and I can make
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: ends meet and make sure I'm good and then shop
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: when ship back popping again and be back popping again.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: And now do you, uh, do you feel a lot
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: of pressure being famous or more well known facially like
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: and then to keep up the status of the financials
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: like I used to.
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: I used to, but the older I've gotten And the
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: more I've seen niggas, I've seen more niggas looking like
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: they got it and not having it than I've seen
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: niggas looking like they got it and actually having it.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: Like Nick don't put on no jury, let's tim camera's
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: roll and Nick don't come in with no watching seven
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: chains on until it's time for us to say actually
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: wild wild Like Nicka the motherfucker's house shoes, Nike sweat
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: suit and he got more money than everybody we work with. Yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Like it's a lot of niggas who I see like that,
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: like Nigga, like niggas like uh, Gilly the kid Willow
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: like them. Niggas ain't coming out them niggas they got
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: their getting in bag. Nigga's not coming out just hella hella, hella,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: flashy and trying to look like they're not wearing their wealth.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: A lot of people aren't wearing. When I started learning
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: and paying attention and certain things like that, it took
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: a lot. Like bro, I don't got to it ain't
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: for what I'm impressing a bunch of motherfuckers. It ain't
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: got ten percent of.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: What I got, Yeah for what, Like it.
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Don't make sense like just to show you, like, look,
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: I can buy I can buy this shit, and yeah
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: it's big chain, it's cuman linking.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Well. I feel like now even more so now though
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I feel like it's not even it's a trick. We're
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: in a different age because back then it was about
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the flashiness. Right now it's like you you ain't gotta
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: have flash, but if you have fifteen thousand followers, that's
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: your new flash. It's so weird. It's a wird.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: The cloud.
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: The cloud is tricking people because there's so many people.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: I even know that they got two cents to rub together,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: but they they cloud in it. And I'm like, yo,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: your bank account, whether you can put a roof over
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: your head, that's really your reality, you know. And I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: think it's hard to live in a reality when social
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: media allows us to paint these images of happiness and progress.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: And you've seen like people on social media they don't
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: even have half the shit, and they taking pictures next
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: to the shit, and the gas can.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Live next to everybody else. And she's like, yeah, I
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: seen it, Like I said, I learned so much. Like
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: I said, That's why I'm thankful for my down years,
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: because it taught me so much. It built character, It
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: built It made me the man I am today to
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: where I can stand before people be like, Bro, that
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: shit don't make me like it. Don't that shit don't
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: mean a thing to me. I could be broken. I'm
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: the same nigga. I could be up one hundred million.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: I'm gonna be the same nig I'm still gonna stop
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: and roll and talk to I'm gonna treat the bomb
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: on the side of the highway just like I'm gonna
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: treat the Boston Viacon. How you doing, good? God, bless
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: you much respect, much love. I'm not gonna treat nobody
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: no differently. Everybody is equal to me. We are humans.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: We are trying to figure this out, this thing called life.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: We're all trying to figure it out every day. That's
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: the every day. That's the every day struggle to everyone's
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: share trying to figure this life. Shut out even the
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: richest motherfucker still trying to navigate through this life shit.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: Because like you have all the money in the world, Yo,
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: your loved one die. Is that all the money you
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: can't buy their life back? You die. You can't go
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: and like bank take all my money and bring me back,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: It don't mean Shit's piece of paper that they print
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: up and they and they add value to it, and
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: that value that they put on that piece of paper
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: controls us. And that's crazy to me. It's like fuck
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: that that that shouldn't control you or your way of
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: thinking because that that dollar is just like they saying
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: that nigga, the US dollar about to be worth shit.
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: Then what when they say that motherfucker ain't worth nothing?
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: What what is the nigga with a hundred bion dollars do?
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Then when they say that on hundred million ain't worth
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: a bitch ass thing no more. All you got is
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: what you stand for. All you got is the principles,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: the the way you made people feel, you know what
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: I mean, the way you treated people. That's athing's gonna last.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Like when you're dead and gone, nobody don't give a
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: fuck about Oh, that nigga died with a hundred million.
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: They'm like, bro, that nigga treat That nigga was a
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: good person, That nigga treated everybody with respect, That Nigga
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: looked out for his people. He showed genuine love to people.
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: He wasn't no arrogant asshole type. Of person that people
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: gonna remember. Nobody remembers how much money motherfuckers like Prince
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: and Mike had, That's not remember. What's remembered is the
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: art that they left us, the mark they made on
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: people's lives, and the impact they made on the culture.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Like that's what remembered that the rest of this It's.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Funny because I don't even listen to Princess music. Really,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I was obviously later, But I will say though, the
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: impact that he made on even the music industry speaking
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: up against you know, like owning yourself, was like, that's
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: the legacy he left was like that brotherhood and he
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: taught that.
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: He was one of the first people teaching and preaching ownership, yeah.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: In your art, And that was like, and look, we
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: didn't even listen to his music, but guess what we
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: walked away with his principles. Right, So that's definitely true.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: What advice would you give to someone that is coming
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: up in the game, hitting hitting their heads and then
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: I have one more and then we out.
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: Yeah, if you coming up in this motherfucker, you you
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: know what I mean? You you bumping your head, you
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: slipping and falling, You can't get man, listen keep at it,
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: keep at it. Everything is learning experience, trust God's timing
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: and not your own time. You know what I'm saying, Uh,
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: just just just stick to it man. Like nothing like.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: You got people that are overnight sensations, but guess what,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: they lose it overnight. Then you got people who work
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: twenty years and they get that boom, they get that hit,
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: and they lit for the rest of their life. Everybody's
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: story different, everybody's journey different. Don't think because one person
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: made it this way that that's your way. You know
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Just stick to what works for you
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: and stick to doing what something do. Do what you love.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Don't do what you think is gonna make you rich,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Don't do what you think it's gonna make you famous.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: And have you lit. Do something you love. You put
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: some effort into something you love, like and really push
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: forward to do something you love. The money and shit
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: like that gonna come. That shit gonna come. That shit ineedible.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: They print that shit every day, even on Sundays on
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: the bank close, they printing that shit. You can always
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: go get you some money, man, Do something you love,
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: don't be doing some shit you don't love, and just
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: doing it just for the money or just some shit
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: that's just driven by you wanting to be rich or
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: you wanting to be well known, because it's not gonna
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: you're gonna get You're gonna get the well none even
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: get it. And then it's gonna be like, now what
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: do I do with it? Now that I'm here, You're
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: gonna be like, where's the what's the you mean like
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: I have no knowledge of what to do with and
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: how to keep this ship and how to maintain this
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: shit because I was only doing it to get this shit. Yeah,
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: So if you if you up and coming in, keep
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: at this ship and do it because you love it,
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: don't do it because you feel like you it's gonna
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: it's gonna be the only way to survive. Like, no, don't,
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: don't base it off a survival man, base it off
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: of love.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: Bro speaking of survival lot, I really want to get
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: into this part because I don't think it's talked about
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: enough on one of the recent episodes that someone touched
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: on this. But I really want to highlight this part
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: because because of the fugazis in the world, which is
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: money in the industry, Like one minute, you're up one minutes,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: you're down as a person that is riding the wave
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: of the unknown, but believing in themselves. You're in this,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: You're you're already on the roller coaster. How are you
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: managing your finances? Are you setting budgets and then just
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: saying don't go over it? Are you doing reserves like
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: I want.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: To get it. That's kind of where I'm at right now,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: setting budgets, trying to make sure, Okay, this is what
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: this is what I need to spend on me, this
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: is what the response abilities this is. You know what
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: I mean, I put this to the side because for
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: my son, my daughter, you know what I mean. I'm
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: trying to just figure out, not really figured out, but
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: that's what I mean with just budgeting and the pecking
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: order of what's the most important, you know what I mean. Like,
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, you always do, you always do
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: for you always take care of yourself. But what's more
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: important than what things and causes are bigger than you,
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Bigger than keep keeping my keeping my kids, make sure
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: my kids is good. That's the biggest things. So like
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: you get those things and you put that over here
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: and in tier that's like tier one, that's Tier one,
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: that's top tier, that's what's on top. And then you
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: got tier two, uh you know what I mean, groceries
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: and making sure your house is filled with things that
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: you need and necessities. And then you get the tier
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: three like okay, yeah, tennis shoes and ship like that
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: when it makes sense, don't just go out buying. Don't
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: go out on the five thousand dollars shoe shoppings because
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: you know you can afford to do it, because at
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: any given moment that five thousand and you just spend
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: on Michael Jordan's shoes. Michael Jordan's gonna get you a
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: dam of it back if you fucked up. Yeah, you
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: can't call like, look, Mike, I just bought every shoe
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: this year, and now I can't pay my rent or
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: I can't get my son done for Christmas? Can you
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: can you spot me five thousand and then you know
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: I'm about some more shoes next year? Mike, Yeah, you
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: can't do that, bro. So so that's Royn May with
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: like just budgeting and making sure like even though the
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: account says this, that don't mean spend that. I don't
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: give a fuck. The account may say one hundred thousand
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: account may say eight account, mat say twenty thousand, count
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: may say according me whatever it say, That don't mean
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: you got to spend that. Figure out, figure out a
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: way to keep most of that for a rainy day.
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Because I don't seen a lot of rainy days, and
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: a lot of my rainy days because of poor money management.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: I had to call on others and be like, hey,
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: help me out, you know what I mean, and come
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: on wrong like somebody to be thirty years old. Ain't
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: that shit ain't fly? Like shit ain't fly my nigga
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: be calling on them? Amen, Uh, can you can you
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: send me a thousand dollars until I till I can
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: figure out something for the next week? You help me
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: pay my rent? Like nah, brother, that ain't fly.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: No cool, it's not. But hey, you see the girl,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: You see the learning lessons, you see the stability. Now
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: now you're ready for every next hurricane if it comes.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I've learned that like change is challenging, but it's you
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: can embrace it. Hard stuff is challenging. You can embrace
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: it and try your best to handle everything in love
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: and grace. That's like my thing. Just loving.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: Don't give you more than you can handle.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: It.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: It just don't. God don't put more on you, and
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: you can handle the universe whatever you believe in God.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: I believe in God. God don't put more on me
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: than I can handle. So me knowing that I face
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: everything head on if I if I fuck up, all right,
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: what am I gonna learn from this fuck up? Because
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: I can't unfuck up? Yeah, and I'm going to fuck
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: up a million more times in life because life is
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: a constant learning experience. Like that's just how this shit goes.
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: So it's like, don't get down there and sell. If
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: you fuck up, you make a wrong turn, figure out
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: how to get back to the road you was on
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: and get back on the path you was headed in.
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: It ain't that hard. It takes it just you gotta
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: want to for real, you gotta want to get back
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: on the right path. You gotta want to do the
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: right things. That's all it is like. And once you,
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: once you really and truly and genially want that in
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: your life and want that for yourself, then gonna start
- 1:12:00Speaker 2: happening for you to make it easier on you to
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: stay on the correct path. And That's where I'm at
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: now because I make I make certain decisions differently. I
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: do things a lot differently. So now life, life is
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: a little easier for me to stay on this path.
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: It's not as it's not. It's not as easy. It's
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: easier for me to stay on the path than it
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: is for me to veer off into some bullshit when
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: it used to be reversed because I was so like, man,
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: I was so eager. I mean, it's so easy to
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: be like, man, fuck this shit. I'm just gonna go
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: and give me twenty pounds a week and flip it.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: You know what I mean. I'm gonna go get me
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: this and do that, you know what I mean. That's
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: where I was in Like, bro, nah, when you tell
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: it like I fuck that. I'm gonna figure out some
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: other ways and to stay on this path right here.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Then it becomes easier when you really truly want to
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: stay on that path.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree, for sure. I agree. So where
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: can everybody keep up with Bobby Jay Thompson.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: I'm on Instagram? I really don't. I'm not a big
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: Twitter dude. I'm catch me on Instagram. That's really my
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: only soul. I said, I can't get jiggy with the
