- 0:33Speaker 1: Nine? Nine?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Tonight already?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Yeah, episode nine in which we have a debate with
- 0:38Speaker 1: the anti polygamists so on versus the Browns. And I
- 0:43Speaker 1: thought there were some juicy little tidbits here that we're.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Going to get into.
- 0:47Speaker 1: But before we do, please let us give you this disclaimer,
- 0:51Speaker 1: which is to hide your wife and hide your kids.

- 1:33Speaker 1: I think we're gonna be wrapping up my thousand pound
- 1:35Speaker 1: best friends. Yeah, and also we're gonna be wrapping up
- 1:38Speaker 1: Couples Therapy, which we've just been having a great time with,
- 1:42Speaker 1: and then we're gonna launch into the Valley and maybe
- 1:45Speaker 1: some other content. We're kind of presently just work shopping.
- 1:48Speaker 2: What we're gonna.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Donna be lit.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Now, if you are watching on YouTube, please, if you
- 1:53Speaker 1: would be so kind, do not forget to like and

- 2:01Speaker 1: do helps us to get to.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Six thousand subscribers. It's my dream.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I know you do.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Dare to dream be addressed.
- 2:10Speaker 3: We should update that on our vision board.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Actually, oh we should, yeah, yes, that's true. We had
- 2:15Speaker 1: five thousand now.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It needs to be six thousand.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So anything you can do is so helpful.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Thank you in Van appreciate it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Now, before we get into our episode recap, we do
- 2:27Speaker 1: probably have to address the big news in the Sister
- 2:31Speaker 1: Wives multiverse, which of course dropped right after we filmed
- 2:34Speaker 1: last week, so we're not able to get to it.
- 2:37Speaker 1: But it's the apparent redistribution of ownership across the four
- 2:42Speaker 1: parcels of coyote paths.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Yeah, this was huge. I totally forgot about it.
- 2:48Speaker 1: I don't I don't know that I understood kind of
- 2:51Speaker 1: the method behind what they were doing. I saw that,
- 2:55Speaker 1: like they changed the ownership the names across parcels, but like,
- 2:59Speaker 1: does it end up equalling like twenty five percent each
- 3:03Speaker 1: or not?
- 3:04Speaker 3: I don't know how it equals out in terms of percentages,
- 3:08Speaker 3: because Cody and Robin's names are still on three of
- 3:11Speaker 3: the parcels, so it's still four parcels like it was,
- 3:15Speaker 3: but before it was Cody and Robin's plot, Cody and
- 3:18Speaker 3: Janell and Mary's plot, and then another Cody and Robin's plot,
- 3:22Speaker 3: which used to be Christine's, and then Cody and Janelle's plot.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And now Janelle and Mary are on one plot okay,
- 3:30Speaker 3: so Cody and Robin's names are off of it, okay.
- 3:32Speaker 3: And then Cody and Robin are still on Christine's plot.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Which was a smaller plot, right yep, okay.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And then we have Cody, Robin, Janell and Mary on
- 3:41Speaker 3: the last two plots, the one that was in the
- 3:44Speaker 3: middle and then the other with the pond.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Okay, so I.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Guess it's more equal now because Janelle and Mary's names
- 3:53Speaker 3: are on the other two plots m h. But Cody
- 3:57Speaker 3: and Robin's names are still on all of it. So like,
- 3:59Speaker 3: I don't I don't really understand.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Okay, So the news is that they struck some kind
- 4:05Speaker 1: of deal, But the unanswered question for me is whether
- 4:09Speaker 1: Cody and Robin are going to be made to pay
- 4:12Speaker 1: back the portion that both Janelle and Mary paid into,
- 4:16Speaker 1: like the down payment of the first mcmanson right, because
- 4:20Speaker 1: as we have established before, like when they sold their
- 4:22Speaker 1: homes in Vegas, they took the proceeds of those sales
- 4:26Speaker 1: and they put that towards Robin's home, which she has
- 4:29Speaker 1: said on camera that home was a family asset. It's
- 4:32Speaker 1: for the entire family. And so I'm just wondering if
- 4:36Speaker 1: maybe they got a little less than twenty five percent.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm not sure again because I don't know how to
- 4:40Speaker 1: do the breakdown, But if they did, maybe it doesn't
- 4:43Speaker 1: matter that much if they're also paying them back for
- 4:45Speaker 1: the down payment.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Maybe, but I don't know. This whole thing still feels
- 4:50Speaker 3: really messy to me, and I just don't understand why
- 4:52Speaker 3: Janelle and Mary can't have their own plots like that.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Doesn't make any sense to me. Why can't Coding and
- 4:57Speaker 3: Robin just have one? And then like, why did their
- 4:59Speaker 3: name still have to be on three out of the
- 5:01Speaker 3: four parcels? Like, none of this makes sense. But maybe
- 5:05Speaker 3: it's working out for Janelle and Mary. Maybe it's still
- 5:07Speaker 3: in progress. Maybe they're still debating all this stuff. I
- 5:09Speaker 3: have no idea, but it is interesting.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Nonetheless, I imagine they're not still debating it. If they
- 5:15Speaker 1: went to the trouble of like actually reassigning ownership, it
- 5:18Speaker 1: sounds like there was a deal that was struck. I
- 5:21Speaker 1: just wish that we had the particulars. I'm wondering if
- 5:24Speaker 1: the final five episodes or whatever we're about to get
- 5:27Speaker 1: starting on April twentieth, I wonder if some of this
- 5:30Speaker 1: is going to be addressed, Like was this all negotiated
- 5:33Speaker 1: on camera and they sealed the deal off camera? I
- 5:37Speaker 1: don't probably not, Like that's what I want to see, Yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 1: So that means that's.
- 5:42Speaker 3: What I'm not going to see, yeah, baby, Yeah, I
- 5:46Speaker 3: don't know if it's gonna be on this season. I've
- 5:48Speaker 3: been seeing a couple of people saying that like online
- 5:50Speaker 3: and stuff and hoping that we're going to see the footage.
- 5:53Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 5:54Speaker 3: I feel like we're gonna end up seeing it like
- 5:56Speaker 3: next year or the year after or the year after
- 5:58Speaker 3: if they continue the show.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Oh that right, and that's what's in question.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Right, I don't know if we're gonna get there, Like
- 6:04Speaker 3: what kind of content are we going to watch? For? Two?
- 6:06Speaker 2: More support lawsuit.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'll watch that day every day, twice on Sundays.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I'm there for the lawsuits.
- 6:13Speaker 3: That would be great, but that's not what they're gonna
- 6:15Speaker 3: show us, right, It's gonna be more baptisms. It's gonna
- 6:17Speaker 3: be like moving into the other McMansion. It's going to
- 6:20Speaker 3: be Christine and David making out like I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 1: So I bind that in the name of Jesus, no
- 6:28Speaker 1: rebuke it. But very interesting news. So things are moving around,
- 6:32Speaker 1: things are happening. We don't have the full picture obviously, Yeah,
- 6:35Speaker 1: but it is interesting, very interesting. Okay, is there anything
- 6:39Speaker 1: else that we need to talk about before we get
- 6:41Speaker 1: into the recap?
- 6:42Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 6:43Speaker 1: All right, Well let's get into it. Start us off Beatrice.
- 6:46Speaker 3: All right, Well, this episode was called Sister Wives on
- 6:49Speaker 3: the Ropes. Yeah, so is that about the debate?
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think so.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Like when you're on the ropes in a boxing ring. Oh,
- 6:55Speaker 1: like you're you're taking blows and you're trying to defend
- 6:58Speaker 1: yourself to get off the ropes, which your wife would
- 7:01Speaker 1: know because she's.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Like, yeah, she's into boxing and all that stuff, martial
- 7:06Speaker 3: arts and stuff, I guess. But like this episode, to me,
- 7:09Speaker 3: I'm like, the Browns are being so dramatic.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And negative, Oh my god, so negative and condescending, yes,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and rude. So to set up the premise, apparently we
- 7:19Speaker 1: need to create content again, of course, and so the
- 7:22Speaker 1: Browns and the production team has been in contact with
- 7:25Speaker 1: UNLV and they have created this debate in which the
- 7:30Speaker 1: Browns are going to represent their version of polygamy, which.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Of course is still awesome.
- 7:34Speaker 3: It's perfect, there's no problems whatsoever at all.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And they're going to be debating against people who have
- 7:40Speaker 1: been in polygamy, had a bad time, honey, Yeah, and
- 7:44Speaker 1: now they want to at least shed some light on
- 7:47Speaker 1: the problems of polygamy. Yeah, And so that's the whole thing.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I wish we would have spent more time on the
- 7:54Speaker 1: actual debate, I know. Instead we spent a lot of
- 7:58Speaker 1: time with Christine, oh my god, being histrionic looved so
- 8:03Speaker 1: annoying this.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Like the majority of this episode was just them talking
- 8:07Speaker 3: about how afraid they were for this debate, how nervous
- 8:10Speaker 3: they were to go to battle for their polygamy and
- 8:13Speaker 3: for their faith, and Christine taking all of this so personally,
- 8:17Speaker 3: like talking about how her aunt is only there to
- 8:20Speaker 3: trash their family and how she hates their family and
- 8:23Speaker 3: talk about how much she hates the Browns and Cody
- 8:25Speaker 3: and all this stuff, and I'm like, that's literally not
- 8:27Speaker 3: what your aunt is saying at all. She's talking about
- 8:29Speaker 3: how polygamy is not good because she lived it and
- 8:32Speaker 3: was born and raised in it and had all of
- 8:35Speaker 3: this life experience in it and wants to shed some
- 8:38Speaker 3: light on why it's bad. But then Christine's taking it personally,
- 8:42Speaker 3: the rest of the family's taking it personally.
- 8:45Speaker 1: And Mary period, Yeah, she's kind of like, whatever, if
- 8:48Speaker 1: they can live the way they want to live.
- 8:49Speaker 2: We're going to live the way we want to live.
- 8:51Speaker 3: She seems neutral, Yeah, and kind of Janelle too. Janelle's
- 8:54Speaker 3: just like, yeah, like we're just here to tell our
- 8:56Speaker 3: experience and they've had their own experience, Like, doesn't she
- 9:00Speaker 3: our family dynamic? But Christine my god. She was using
- 9:05Speaker 3: the word unsafe a lot too.
- 9:06Speaker 1: I know, like the origin story of Unsaved yes season six,
- 9:11Speaker 1: Like I want to get into this and I'm trying
- 9:14Speaker 1: to like work it out in my big dumb brain
- 9:16Speaker 1: because like, if I'm a Christian, say, and there's a
- 9:19Speaker 1: sect of Christianity, and there is a fundamentalist, radicalized sect
- 9:25Speaker 1: of Christianity that is out here perpetrating crimes and doing
- 9:29Speaker 1: terrible things, and I'm on a show, say, talking about
- 9:33Speaker 1: my version of Christianity that is linked, like squarely linked
- 9:38Speaker 1: to what these people are doing. I'm going to take
- 9:40Speaker 1: that as a responsibility to use whatever platform I have
- 9:44Speaker 1: to call that out right. So and I think they've
- 9:47Speaker 1: done a little bit of that, Like they've addressed Warren
- 9:49Speaker 1: Jeff's like last season they talked about how child brides
- 9:53Speaker 1: are bad. But this is a great opportunity for them
- 9:57Speaker 1: to set themselves apart to a little grace and compassion
- 10:01Speaker 1: for people who were objectively abused in the cult of polygamy.
- 10:06Speaker 1: But like that's not the spirit and the energy that
- 10:08Speaker 1: they take into the interaction. It's like, but hurt feelings
- 10:12Speaker 1: from Christine Robin comes in there with her full hard
- 10:15Speaker 1: jaw and oh my, very defensive and angry and ready
- 10:18Speaker 1: to fight. I'm like, what's going on here? Like acknowledge
- 10:21Speaker 1: and validate because y'all know these people know firsthand that
- 10:26Speaker 1: this is the reality of so many people living in
- 10:28Speaker 1: polygamy of women and children. They know that firsthand, ye like,
- 10:33Speaker 1: so validate their experience and then just offers a countermeasure
- 10:38Speaker 1: to that, a counter argument. But that's not what they do,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and it's really confusing to me.
- 10:44Speaker 3: It's super weird. They come off super defensive the entire time,
- 10:48Speaker 3: like they already have their walleup in this debate. And
- 10:51Speaker 3: it's interesting because I think Christine's aunt says at some
- 10:54Speaker 3: point before the debate, She's like, we're not there to
- 10:57Speaker 3: trash on the Browns. We understand that they're in an
- 11:00Speaker 3: and that they're unique and their experience is unique. We
- 11:03Speaker 3: just want them to acknowledge that and acknowledge that they
- 11:06Speaker 3: are kind of an exception to the rule and just
- 11:09Speaker 3: hear that polygamy by and large is dysfunctional and not
- 11:15Speaker 3: good in most cases. But they can't the Browns can't
- 11:18Speaker 3: hear that. They're just on this quest to be like, no,
- 11:22Speaker 3: but we're not like them. Though they're not like us,
- 11:25Speaker 3: we're good and so therefore a lot of other polygamist
- 11:29Speaker 3: families are good, and I mean maybe there are, sure,
- 11:33Speaker 3: but we don't see that represented in the media. We
- 11:36Speaker 3: don't see that very often at all, because they're all hidden.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Even on shows like My Five Wives with Brady or whatever,
- 11:43Speaker 3: they're Hella dysfunctional too, and you can see it behind
- 11:46Speaker 3: the scenes. They don't want to acknowledge it, but they are.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Even the darkers are probably dysfunctional too, very much, but
- 11:52Speaker 3: they come off like they're fine and that everything's hunky dory,
- 11:55Speaker 3: So I don't know. This whole thing was really interesting
- 11:58Speaker 3: to watch because with our current persons, we see that
- 12:01Speaker 3: their family completely is destroyed because of polygamy and because
- 12:04Speaker 3: Cody couldn't manage his relationships with all these other wives.
- 12:08Speaker 3: So it's just interesting to see them be so defensive
- 12:10Speaker 3: about it and defending their position and why polygamy is good,
- 12:14Speaker 3: and Cody being like, Yeah, this is a good lifestyle
- 12:16Speaker 3: because I get to marry all the women that I
- 12:18Speaker 3: love and then now we have twenty twenty five. He
- 12:22Speaker 3: doesn't talk to any of his kids. He's divorced from
- 12:25Speaker 3: all three of his.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Wife saying, like, very directly, I never loved them exactly.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And we also know from the perspective of the last
- 12:31Speaker 1: few years that they were not having sex. A lot
- 12:34Speaker 1: of these women were not having sex with him, and
- 12:36Speaker 1: there was definitely favoritism. We're melting down rings in everything,
- 12:40Speaker 1: so it's highly dysfunctional, and yet we're still trying to
- 12:43Speaker 1: put forth this like very well an illusion a lot,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and it's really really sad. It kind of just proves
- 12:51Speaker 1: the point of the people that are showing up to
- 12:53Speaker 1: debate them. And let's talk about those people. Because we
- 12:56Speaker 1: have Christine's aunt named Kristin Decker, who I think one
- 13:01Speaker 1: hundred percent entered into this debate in good faith. Oh
- 13:04Speaker 1: for she seemed excited to see Christine. She's not here
- 13:07Speaker 1: to shame Christine or Christine's family. She's just acknowledging that
- 13:11Speaker 1: Christine and her family have established a platform and she
- 13:14Speaker 1: wants to have She wants to just be able to
- 13:16Speaker 1: share that platform to show the other side of it, right,
- 13:19Speaker 1: But she's going into it with a good attitude. Then
- 13:22Speaker 1: we have Colleen, who's the blonde girl, angsty, very angsty,
- 13:27Speaker 1: dark eyeliner. She was I think was it last season
- 13:30Speaker 1: was it season five?
- 13:31Speaker 3: Yeah, where she visited or they visited her.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Maddie and Logan and Aspen visited a bunch of kids
- 13:38Speaker 1: who had escaped polygamy, and Colleen was one of them,
- 13:42Speaker 1: And so she's there to debate. And then we have
- 13:44Speaker 1: a new boy. His name is Willie Steed. I looked
- 13:49Speaker 1: him up good because I'm like hoping he's okay, because
- 13:52Speaker 1: just the way that he presented in the episode, I'm like,
- 13:55Speaker 1: this young man trauma has been deeply traumatized and hurt,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and I'm wondering where he is. But unfortunately, from what
- 14:01Speaker 1: I could find, like his last post across social media
- 14:05Speaker 1: was twenty fourteen. He was out in San Diego, like
- 14:08Speaker 1: trying to model and stuff, and I'm just like, oh,
- 14:10Speaker 1: I feel really nervous for him, and I was so
- 14:13Speaker 1: interested to hear his story, which we really didn't spend
- 14:18Speaker 1: a lot of time on. I No, we didn't, and
- 14:20Speaker 1: that was really frustrating. And then there was that Rando
- 14:23Speaker 1: girl woman with the ponytail, Cheryl Marie or something like that.
- 14:27Speaker 1: She's a photographer, yeah, who sort of loosely got involved
- 14:32Speaker 1: in this polygamous racket, and I didn't understand her story
- 14:35Speaker 1: at all.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Well, she was a regular, regular Mormon who I guess
- 14:39Speaker 3: got bamboozled by a guy who believed in polygamy and
- 14:43Speaker 3: then I guess lived it for like nine months and
- 14:47Speaker 3: then got out of it. And so therefore she's on
- 14:48Speaker 3: the same level as the kid from the Warren Jeff's cult, right,
- 14:52Speaker 3: or the incestuous kids.
- 14:53Speaker 1: He's like, she's like, the guy said he was a prophet,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and I just believed him, and then we were married,
- 14:59Speaker 1: and then he's like, yeah, I'm in in another wife
- 15:01Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, but I'm a slave to
- 15:02Speaker 1: this guy and this new wife. But then he wasn't
- 15:05Speaker 1: never married to this woman. I don't know what was
- 15:07Speaker 1: happening with this one woman. It was very, very confusing.
- 15:10Speaker 1: I was very interested in the stories from the kids
- 15:13Speaker 1: and Kristin Decker, and you really didn't get too much
- 15:15Speaker 1: of that. Unfortunately. Instead we have the lead up to
- 15:19Speaker 1: the debate with Christine like working herself into a lather,
- 15:24Speaker 1: super nervous. She's just expecting to be attacked. Nobody's here
- 15:28Speaker 1: attacking you. And that's the thing about all of the Browns,
- 15:31Speaker 1: like you guys are on TLC. You guys are probably
- 15:35Speaker 1: making hundreds of thousands of dollars each year, if not more,
- 15:39Speaker 1: in order to fund your lifestyle. So stop trying to
- 15:41Speaker 1: paint yourself as like a marginalized, victimized.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Group of people.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Like there's actual polygamist though that are marginalized. There's actually
- 15:50Speaker 1: children and women that are exploited, and they made it
- 15:54Speaker 1: all about them.
- 15:55Speaker 2: To me, it was really gross.
- 15:57Speaker 3: It was really annoying because I'm like, you start did
- 16:00Speaker 3: this show knowing full well that coming out public was
- 16:04Speaker 3: going to have these kinds of things happened, Like you
- 16:07Speaker 3: were gonna have debates, you were gonna have people who
- 16:09Speaker 3: were gonna shit all over your religion, you were going
- 16:11Speaker 3: to have people that were gonna come out of the woodwork,
- 16:14Speaker 3: like even in your family and speak out about you.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Just you coming out because pilgamy is supposed to be,
- 16:20Speaker 3: well not supposed to be, but it's a secretive type
- 16:23Speaker 3: of a thing because it's against the law in most places.
- 16:26Speaker 3: So it's like, I don't know, you knew what you
- 16:29Speaker 3: were getting into when you did this, And so now
- 16:31Speaker 3: you're like all freaked out about a debate because your
- 16:33Speaker 3: aunt's there and like Christine is like so against her,
- 16:36Speaker 3: and she's like, I don't even want anything to do
- 16:38Speaker 3: with her because she shits all over my family and
- 16:41Speaker 3: she just hates me and my lifestyle. And I'm like,
- 16:44Speaker 3: I'm not really getting that at all from your aunt.
- 16:46Speaker 3: I mean, there was one thing her aunt did say
- 16:48Speaker 3: to the camera about how she wishes she could rescue
- 16:53Speaker 3: Christine and like kidnap her and take her away from
- 16:55Speaker 3: the browns and stuff. And so maybe that's like her
- 16:57Speaker 3: underlying motive, but I think it's born out of like
- 17:00Speaker 3: concern and care for Christine in this lifestyle, because maybe
- 17:05Speaker 3: she sees how Christine is the basement wife and this family.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Maybe she sees the dynamic on the show and realizes, oh,
- 17:12Speaker 3: Christine's not happy, and like I hope Christine maybe reconnected
- 17:16Speaker 3: with her after she left Cody.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And that's the conversation around production due diligence that we
- 17:22Speaker 1: continue to have, Like I feel that puddle monkey the
- 17:26Speaker 1: production house needs to come back around at this late
- 17:30Speaker 1: stage and talk to Christine, like get her perspective. In
- 17:34Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, twenty twenty six, second, well how do
- 17:36Speaker 1: you feel about your aunt?
- 17:37Speaker 3: Now?
- 17:38Speaker 1: Call up Kristin Decker and ask her, and what about
- 17:40Speaker 1: Christine's mom? Annie, because I think Annie also left polygamy,
- 17:45Speaker 1: she was once in it. Yep, left polygamy. And yet
- 17:48Speaker 1: we don't take these opportunities to talk to Annie about
- 17:51Speaker 1: how she feels, or to Christine now that she's monogamous
- 17:53Speaker 1: and married to David Woolly, Like, let's get back into
- 17:56Speaker 1: these conversations. How do you feel now ten years later
- 18:00Speaker 1: after doing this dumb debate right and making your act
- 18:02Speaker 1: feel terrible about just telling her truth? Like how do
- 18:05Speaker 1: you feel about that now? But are we gonna have
- 18:08Speaker 1: those conversations?
- 18:09Speaker 3: No?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Is anybody even thinking creatively like this ab Absolutely.
- 18:13Speaker 3: Not And that's what's so frustrating. And we say this
- 18:15Speaker 3: all the time, but it's like, looking back on this
- 18:18Speaker 3: episode is so interesting to see, like how they went
- 18:22Speaker 3: from this to what they are now in twenty twenty
- 18:25Speaker 3: five where they're completely broken up, and like nobody even
- 18:27Speaker 3: believes in polygamy anymore, nobody even believes in their fundamentalist
- 18:31Speaker 3: religion anymore. Like why don't we.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Talk about any of this? This would be so.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Much more like of a compelling show to watch if
- 18:39Speaker 3: we actually talked about that, But we're just gonna like
- 18:41Speaker 3: glaze over it. We got a little titty tattoo, like
- 18:44Speaker 3: that's just.
- 18:44Speaker 1: When infer what you will based on.
- 18:46Speaker 3: That, and like even the tellaws would be so much
- 18:49Speaker 3: more interesting if we could watch flashbacks of this, yes,
- 18:52Speaker 3: instead of the same fights like over and over again
- 18:54Speaker 3: of the knife and the kidneys and Janelle cussing Cody
- 18:58Speaker 3: out as he leaves her dorm apartment, like this would
- 19:00Speaker 3: be so much more interesting to look back on, in
- 19:02Speaker 3: my opinion.
- 19:03Speaker 1: But absolutely, I think that was the draw initially with
- 19:06Speaker 1: this entire show, Like people were interested in polygamy, people
- 19:09Speaker 1: were interested in this alternate lifestyle and this different religion.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I'm sure even LDS regular conventional Mormons were interested to
- 19:18Speaker 1: see this, and so that was the premise going in.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And somewhere along the way we just disconnected from the
- 19:24Speaker 1: religious aspect for the most part, and now it's just
- 19:28Speaker 1: out there and that we hear about Mary getting her release.
- 19:30Speaker 1: We heard Janelle talk about maybe she wants to get
- 19:33Speaker 1: a release, but like, why aren't we really drilling down
- 19:36Speaker 1: into these issues and hashing them out, Because that's what
- 19:38Speaker 1: I want. I don't know about anybody else, Like I
- 19:40Speaker 1: really want that component of it, and it's just gone.
- 19:43Speaker 1: And hearing some of the things that these folks are saying,
- 19:47Speaker 1: Like at some point during the panel, during the debate,
- 19:51Speaker 1: somebody in the audience asks them about well, somebody says
- 19:55Speaker 1: something like, well, the way Cody speaks to you, he
- 20:00Speaker 1: raises his voice, the way you guys demure to him
- 20:02Speaker 1: and look at him. Are you guys, like, do you
- 20:06Speaker 1: guys have your own money?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Do you have your own independence?
- 20:08Speaker 1: And Janelle says something like, Oh, I don't share my
- 20:10Speaker 1: money with Cody, and I also have my own career
- 20:15Speaker 1: and I keep the funds from that. And I'm just like, really,
- 20:18Speaker 1: that's a lie, okay to know, because like, what are
- 20:21Speaker 1: we in twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen at this point, and
- 20:24Speaker 1: so in just I don't know, six years from then,
- 20:27Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you're so disempowered that you're living
- 20:30Speaker 1: in an RV that you had to buy that's not
- 20:32Speaker 1: level by the way, where you have to haul your
- 20:34Speaker 1: own water, and Cody's grouching the entire time when he
- 20:37Speaker 1: has to help you, And like, how did so many
- 20:40Speaker 1: things change or were they never really that in the
- 20:43Speaker 1: first place?
- 20:43Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I don't think it ever was that in
- 20:45Speaker 3: the first place. And it's just interesting that she says
- 20:48Speaker 3: this back then on this panel, but then in twenty
- 20:51Speaker 3: twenty five she talks about the dangers of polygamy, where like,
- 20:54Speaker 3: she has no assets, she has no money really to
- 20:57Speaker 3: her name because Cody and her money is like all
- 21:00Speaker 3: tied and then she's all tied up with Robin and
- 21:02Speaker 3: Mary and all these things, and how this is why
- 21:05Speaker 3: polygamy is not good because women are disempowered and don't
- 21:08Speaker 3: have their own financial autonomy. And so she's interesting that
- 21:12Speaker 3: she's saying this to this panelist or to this person
- 21:15Speaker 3: in the audience, being like, well, a'man bac accout, honey,
- 21:17Speaker 3: Like I'm a fine, Aha, you don't.
- 21:20Speaker 1: And it's like the privilege of it though, right, because
- 21:22Speaker 1: how many of these polygamist women have the same type
- 21:27Speaker 1: of independence, have their own accounts, And like when, for example,
- 21:31Speaker 1: Colleen was bringing up her experience and she said something like,
- 21:35Speaker 1: you know, the sister wives absolutely hate each other. Yeah,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Like she was sharing what it was like in her
- 21:42Speaker 1: actual home with her various mothers and they were talking,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you know, very sadly about how when two mothers were
- 21:51Speaker 1: not getting along, they wouldn't take it out on each other,
- 21:54Speaker 1: but rather they would take it out on the other
- 21:55Speaker 1: one's children and how terrible.
- 21:58Speaker 2: That was to live through.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And so Colleen's sharing this, and here's Robin, my god,
- 22:03Speaker 1: with her jaw, with her jaw, getting so freaking angry
- 22:06Speaker 1: and calling out this literal child. I actually don't know
- 22:09Speaker 1: how old Colleen is here, but I'm thinking she's like seventeen, eighteen,
- 22:12Speaker 1: nineteen twenty. She's a young girl, and obviously her her
- 22:15Speaker 1: mentals have been stunted because of the trauma that she's
- 22:19Speaker 1: had to endure. And like, here's Robin saying, well, but
- 22:21Speaker 1: you said that all sister wives hated each other and
- 22:25Speaker 1: that's not what's happening here. And Colleen's like, no, no, no,
- 22:28Speaker 1: I wasn't talking about you specifically and your family structure.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I'm talking about my experience and what I saw.
- 22:34Speaker 2: And she said, well, but.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You said sister wives, you meant us. And I'm like, Robin,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you abusive piece of crap.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 22:41Speaker 1: This girl has been traumatized in a community and in
- 22:45Speaker 1: a structure that you can't tell me you don't know
- 22:48Speaker 1: is valid, Like that was absolutely going on, and you're
- 22:51Speaker 1: berating her and talking down to her and patronizing her.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Oh my god, I just tabed me in he tab.
- 22:58Speaker 3: Me in a real well. I thought that that was
- 23:01Speaker 3: interesting that that's the comment that got Robin all activated,
- 23:04Speaker 3: because I'm like, true, you hate your sisters?
- 23:08Speaker 2: Why?
- 23:08Speaker 1: You don't like your sister why?
- 23:11Speaker 3: And so she felt the need to defend it, especially
- 23:13Speaker 3: on a public panel and like on TV, to be like, no,
- 23:16Speaker 3: that's not true. I do not hate my sister. Wise,
- 23:19Speaker 3: I'm best friends with all of them.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Like, it was just really.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Interesting that that's the comment that she chose to get
- 23:25Speaker 3: all activated over.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Well, and also with Kristin, because Kristen was like coming
- 23:31Speaker 1: back around after Robin said something like, well, if I
- 23:35Speaker 1: wasn't happy here, like if this situation wasn't working for
- 23:39Speaker 1: me in this family, I would absolutely leave. I feel
- 23:42Speaker 1: empowered to leave. And so Kristin was coming back around
- 23:46Speaker 1: and saying, okay, but you said that you would feel
- 23:47Speaker 1: empowered to leave, Like she couldn't even finish her thought
- 23:51Speaker 1: before Robin was like, I did not say that. Do
- 23:54Speaker 1: not twist my words, yep, And she calls her sweetie
- 23:57Speaker 1: and don't make me into a victim, sweety, I know.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I like, that's not what is.
- 24:02Speaker 1: The person turning you into a victim in the room
- 24:04Speaker 1: with us right now, because Kristen was not saying that whatsoever.
- 24:08Speaker 1: And furthermore, what she said you said is what you
- 24:11Speaker 1: actually said. It's what you literally and then when you
- 24:13Speaker 1: rephrased it after she said that, you said the same
- 24:16Speaker 1: thing again. Yeah, it was literally the same thing she
- 24:18Speaker 1: was saying.
- 24:18Speaker 2: But you just want to fight.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Though, I know, like Robin literally answered some I think
- 24:22Speaker 3: she answered Ponytails question about like, well, what if you
- 24:25Speaker 3: woke up one day and thought that this was all
- 24:27Speaker 3: just a bunch of hocus pokes bs or whatever, like
- 24:31Speaker 3: would you leave? And Robin was like, yeah, totally, so
- 24:35Speaker 3: like sure. That's also interesting too that she answered that
- 24:39Speaker 3: because we're kind of debating now in twenty twenty five,
- 24:41Speaker 3: like if Robin's still a part of the AUB, Like
- 24:44Speaker 3: does she still believe in polygamy? Does she actually believe
- 24:47Speaker 3: in polygamy? Would she leave Cody if the finances got
- 24:51Speaker 3: all muddled up and like ran out, Like it'd be
- 24:54Speaker 3: interesting if she left out of like a belief or
- 24:57Speaker 3: if she believe she thought like, oh, it's not worth
- 25:00Speaker 3: it anymore. I don't know. I thought it was interesting
- 25:02Speaker 3: that she even answered that and said, yeah, I would
- 25:04Speaker 3: leave mm hmm. If it turned out to be my
- 25:06Speaker 3: beliefs were BS.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Right, I don't believe her. I mean, I do think
- 25:10Speaker 1: she would leave. But I just think everything that's happening
- 25:13Speaker 1: on the stage on their side is performative, except for
- 25:17Speaker 1: maybe Mary. I think Mary is like, I'm just here
- 25:20Speaker 1: like to talk about my lifestyle, like you can accept
- 25:23Speaker 1: it or not. It's no sweat off my back. And
- 25:26Speaker 1: if you don't accept it, that's fine too. I'm not
- 25:28Speaker 1: going to judge you for being anti polygamists, so please
- 25:31Speaker 1: don't judge me and that from a meta perspective, Yeah,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I can totally get behind of course and polyamory.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Same thing, like.
- 25:38Speaker 1: If y'all are making the choice, yeah, that you guys
- 25:41Speaker 1: want to live this way, Like I have no problem
- 25:44Speaker 1: like with you legalizing that if there was a function
- 25:46Speaker 1: to do that, so y'all could like file taxes together
- 25:48Speaker 1: and people could have health insurance personally, I have no
- 25:51Speaker 1: problem with that whatsoever. Like, and I am all about,
- 25:54Speaker 1: like you live your lifestyle, what you do behind closed doors,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I couldn't give a shit about And don't worry about
- 25:59Speaker 1: me over here either. Yeah, and surprisingly here in Texas
- 26:02Speaker 1: were a lot like that. Oh yeah, I was shocked,
- 26:05Speaker 1: actually sidebar. When we moved to Texas from Colorado. I
- 26:09Speaker 1: was very weird, very worried having a queer kid, that
- 26:14Speaker 1: people here were going to be very judgmental, bigoted, homophobic.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And I remember our realtor saying, you're going to be surprised.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And we were living out in Parker County, honeywoo, we
- 26:25Speaker 1: wren in Dallas.
- 26:25Speaker 2: We were and we were in the boonies.
- 26:27Speaker 1: He's like, you're going to be very surprised when you
- 26:29Speaker 1: go to the Target, you go to the Walmart. People
- 26:32Speaker 1: here are very accepting. They don't They're not even going
- 26:34Speaker 1: to look twice at her weird hair or her tattoos.
- 26:36Speaker 1: It's going to be absolutely fine. I don't know why
- 26:38Speaker 1: how I got on this, but I'm just saying that here.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I just want to say that here in Texas, people
- 26:43Speaker 1: are actually really really welcoming, and it's about like not
- 26:47Speaker 1: getting into somebody's business, oh for sure. In fact, there's
- 26:49Speaker 1: this practice that we have here of like painting purple
- 26:53Speaker 1: paint on our posts so that you know, you're not
- 26:57Speaker 1: allowed to come on my property. Now if you do,
- 26:59Speaker 1: there's be a problem. It is Texas beware. But it's
- 27:03Speaker 1: a very like this is where we live, and this
- 27:05Speaker 1: is where you live, and I'm gonna respect you, and
- 27:07Speaker 1: I'm not gonna bug you, and so don't come over
- 27:08Speaker 1: here and bug me.
- 27:10Speaker 2: That's very much what it's like here. And I respect that.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So as a person, I don't have a problem if
- 27:15Speaker 1: you're a polyamorous person, yeah, or a polygamous, bigamous person, right,
- 27:19Speaker 1: And I also think you should get all the tax
- 27:21Speaker 1: benefits of living your consensual lifestyle in the way that
- 27:24Speaker 1: you want. But the minute you start exploiting children, and
- 27:28Speaker 1: the minute we start having child brides, and the minute
- 27:31Speaker 1: we start having disenfranchised women who have no power to
- 27:34Speaker 1: get out of the cult, well now we have a
- 27:36Speaker 1: problem and we've got to address it. Let's not pretend
- 27:38Speaker 1: it's not happening.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Of course, And that's the thing. And like they're also
- 27:42Speaker 3: in Vegas, which is also a pretty progressive area of
- 27:45Speaker 3: the country, and like people don't give a crap what
- 27:48Speaker 3: you do in Vegas. They don't care if you're an
- 27:50Speaker 3: elvious impersonator. They don't care who you are there, Like
- 27:53Speaker 3: nobody cares. So it's weird that the Browns are so
- 27:57Speaker 3: defensive with this audience and with these people that have
- 28:01Speaker 3: escaped awful, traumatic, heinous forms of polygamy and they're just
- 28:07Speaker 3: trying to share their story, and like, this would have
- 28:08Speaker 3: been a really interesting debate debate to have if the
- 28:12Speaker 3: Browns weren't so defensive, and even at the end of
- 28:15Speaker 3: the debate, like they are kind of blaming it off
- 28:17Speaker 3: on the audience and the moderator and the other people
- 28:22Speaker 3: on the panel as the reason why it got defensive,
- 28:24Speaker 3: and I'm like, it's y'all, like you came in hot
- 28:27Speaker 3: headed and like triggered because people were just sharing their
- 28:33Speaker 3: opinions and wanting to have.
- 28:34Speaker 1: A dialogue and a conversation.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Like, if you're going to live an alternative lifestyle, you
- 28:39Speaker 3: need to be prepared for and willing to listen to
- 28:43Speaker 3: the heat of other people judging that alternative lifestyle. That's
- 28:46Speaker 3: just the reality that we're in.
- 28:51Speaker 1: I don't know about that.
- 28:52Speaker 3: You don't need to accept it, but you just need
- 28:54Speaker 3: to be prepared that you live in a world where
- 28:56Speaker 3: people are going.
- 28:56Speaker 1: To judge if you're on television now, if you're living
- 28:59Speaker 1: an alternative lifestyle and you're just you keeping to yourself,
- 29:02Speaker 1: like I'm not expecting to go to Walmart and having
- 29:04Speaker 1: somebody come up and talk to me about my alternative lifestyle. No, no, no,
- 29:08Speaker 1: But people shouldn't have to defend the way that they
- 29:10Speaker 1: want to live. But if you are going to be
- 29:12Speaker 1: on a public platform, on a television show in front
- 29:16Speaker 1: of millions of people, you should be prepared and you
- 29:18Speaker 1: should expect people to challenge your alternative lifestyle.
- 29:22Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm saying. I'm not saying that you
- 29:23Speaker 3: need to be prepared to like defend it in public,
- 29:26Speaker 3: but like you need to know that you live in
- 29:28Speaker 3: a world of four point six billion people, and there's
- 29:30Speaker 3: going to be people that are not going to accept
- 29:32Speaker 3: your lifestyle. Sure, that's just the reality of what we're
- 29:34Speaker 3: living in. You're not going to have people validate your
- 29:39Speaker 3: experience all the time. And like you don't have to
- 29:42Speaker 3: accept it. You don't have to be around those kinds
- 29:44Speaker 3: of people. You don't have to even entertain their opinions.
- 29:48Speaker 3: But I'm just saying, like the Browns, especially being on TV,
- 29:50Speaker 3: I'm just like, oh my god, like chill out. Like
- 29:52Speaker 3: people are gonna hate on polygamy.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That's just the world.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I don't even think people are actually at this time
- 29:58Speaker 1: when they're filming season six. I don't think people are
- 30:00Speaker 1: really hating on polygamy. I feel like it's so part
- 30:04Speaker 1: of their identity and part of the show's premise once again,
- 30:08Speaker 1: the premise of polygamy and what it means to be
- 30:11Speaker 1: a polygamist, and like it's such a part of their
- 30:13Speaker 1: brand to be victimized, right, that they have to always
- 30:16Speaker 1: present themselves as such. I just saw a bunch of
- 30:19Speaker 1: people in the audience who were curious, Oh, yeah, my god,
- 30:23Speaker 1: this is a university.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we're here to learn.
- 30:25Speaker 1: We've got some polygamists here and some anti polygamist let's
- 30:28Speaker 1: go check out this lecture and see what happens. Yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: but the way they go into it is just like
- 30:32Speaker 1: we were used to being attacked.
- 30:34Speaker 2: You know, they're going to be coming for us, and like.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Literally, nobody's coming for you. Even the anti polygamists have
- 30:41Speaker 1: nothing against you. They just want to share your platform
- 30:44Speaker 1: to show the other side of this.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yep, it's crazy. And like even before the debate, you
- 30:49Speaker 3: have that weird little scene where like Christine talks about
- 30:52Speaker 3: how they didn't want to be in the same room
- 30:54Speaker 3: as the other panelists because it was unceave, and so
- 30:56Speaker 3: they're in separate little conference rooms, and then Christine goes
- 30:59Speaker 3: to the bathroom and her aunt is outside of the bathroom,
- 31:01Speaker 3: and Christine doesn't want to leave the bathroom without her
- 31:05Speaker 3: other sister wives there to walk her out like it's
- 31:07Speaker 3: some weird high school thing, because she can't be bombarded
- 31:10Speaker 3: by her aunt, because she thinks her aunt's just gonna
- 31:13Speaker 3: come for her and antagonize her in the hallway outside
- 31:16Speaker 3: of the bathroom.
- 31:16Speaker 1: And that's why I had to ask myself, like, is
- 31:18Speaker 1: this real worry or is this a performance? Because there's
- 31:22Speaker 1: nothing in Kristin Decker that would even suggest that she
- 31:25Speaker 1: would ever try to corner you and attack you in
- 31:28Speaker 1: any way. She seems like a very loving, wonderful woman.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Maybe she's concerned because hello, she's been in the lifestyle
- 31:35Speaker 1: and she knows how it feels, and it's pretty fucking terrible.
- 31:37Speaker 1: And isn't it interesting, Beatrice that the things that truly
- 31:41Speaker 1: bothered Kristin in her marriage, which was when her husband
- 31:45Speaker 1: of thirty years went out and got a new wife,
- 31:49Speaker 1: and how she dealt with like the deep jealousy of that.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And then they went and they on their honeymoon, and
- 31:55Speaker 1: they came back and she says, I just wanted to die.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Those are the same ashite o that Christine has. Christine
- 32:02Speaker 1: has a lot of issues, and there's a lot of
- 32:03Speaker 1: problems inherent to trying to figure out polygamy. Yeah, but
- 32:07Speaker 1: her main issue is jealousy. Yes, and her aunt experienced
- 32:11Speaker 1: the same thing. And yet you can't just listen to
- 32:14Speaker 1: where your aunt is, you can't respond to it. In fact,
- 32:16Speaker 1: when Christine responds to Kristin talking about her experience, she's
- 32:20Speaker 1: just like, well, I just don't know what to do
- 32:22Speaker 1: with you, Auntie. You were married to a bad man.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry to tell you he was a bad guy.
- 32:28Speaker 3: And it's so funny because now I'm like, you were
- 32:31Speaker 3: married to a bad guy, and now you acknowledge that
- 32:33Speaker 3: Cody has turned into a bad guy and that he
- 32:35Speaker 3: was not good to you or your other sister Rives.
- 32:37Speaker 1: It's just inter your children.
- 32:39Speaker 3: I really hope she reconnected with her aunt, or maybe
- 32:41Speaker 3: her aunt reached out to her and was like, told
- 32:43Speaker 3: you so, because that's what I would do if I
- 32:45Speaker 3: was her aunt, I'd be like, I'm ready for my
- 32:47Speaker 3: apology now, Like I was just looking out for you
- 32:50Speaker 3: because I care about you and you're my niece. And
- 32:52Speaker 3: I love you, and I saw what you were in
- 32:54Speaker 3: and you didn't want to hear me. And I would
- 32:57Speaker 3: hope that Christine could acknowledge that, But like, we don't
- 32:59Speaker 3: get to those conversations.
- 33:01Speaker 2: We don't get and I really.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Just it makes me angry. It really makes me angry
- 33:05Speaker 1: because Christine and I are around the same age, Janelle, Mary,
- 33:08Speaker 1: we're all around the same age. For me, if I
- 33:10Speaker 1: had put myself out in this way, and if I
- 33:13Speaker 1: had been a champion and a cheerleader for this particular
- 33:16Speaker 1: lifestyle that actually did end up being terribly abusive and
- 33:19Speaker 1: exploitative and hurt me and my children, Like again, I
- 33:23Speaker 1: would feel a sense of responsibility to address that down
- 33:27Speaker 1: to the brass tax honey. And I'm hoping when she
- 33:29Speaker 1: comes out with her big dumb book like later this
- 33:32Speaker 1: fall that I still have to pre order. I hope
- 33:35Speaker 1: we actually get into some of these conversations because you
- 33:38Speaker 1: have a responsibility, Janelle. You have a responsibility. Mary, you
- 33:42Speaker 1: have a responsibility, Christine to talk about the things that
- 33:45Speaker 1: were wrong, to talk about how you were taken advantage
- 33:48Speaker 1: of and financially abused and maybe abused abused, I don't know,
- 33:52Speaker 1: like you were all raw raw out here, especially in
- 33:55Speaker 1: this episode, And now where are you at right now?
- 33:58Speaker 1: What did you walk away with in this relationship?
- 34:01Speaker 3: I mean, she got money. Now, she's got two airbnbs
- 34:03Speaker 3: and she's got a bald husband.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Which is great, Like she was smart, but like Janelle,
- 34:06Speaker 1: not you though, right, Mary, not you though exactly? So
- 34:09Speaker 1: I just I feel like, let's talk about that, right,
- 34:11Speaker 1: But no, you want to be a cheerleader and all
- 34:13Speaker 1: you want to do is get a tattoo on your
- 34:15Speaker 1: titty and just have us just infer what that means.
- 34:18Speaker 2: That yet bull crap. It is bullcrap. That's offensive, And
- 34:21Speaker 2: like we.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Know we're not going to get these kinds of conversations
- 34:23Speaker 3: from like Robin and Cody because they can never acknowledge
- 34:26Speaker 3: their wrongs or their faults or even their lack of
- 34:29Speaker 3: faith in this point, but like it'd be nice to
- 34:31Speaker 3: get that from the OG three because they were the
- 34:34Speaker 3: ones championing, championing it this entire time. And it was
- 34:37Speaker 3: also interesting, speaking of Cody, somebody in the audience asked
- 34:40Speaker 3: him a question directly about how many kids he had.
- 34:44Speaker 3: He's like, oh, yeah, I have seventeen. And this chick
- 34:46Speaker 3: who looked like she was probably college age or whatever.
- 34:49Speaker 3: She's like, so, let me ask you, are you emotionally
- 34:52Speaker 3: involved with all seventeen of those kids? Do you feel
- 34:55Speaker 3: like you can manage those relations relationships well enough with
- 34:59Speaker 3: such a lof large family. And Cody's like, yeah, I
- 35:02Speaker 3: feel like I'm just as involved as any other monogamous couple.
- 35:05Speaker 3: And I wish we could like flash back to this
- 35:09Speaker 3: comment right here in the tael alls now and have
- 35:12Speaker 3: Suki be like, yeah, so are you still involved with
- 35:15Speaker 3: all your kids because now you're only involved with like
- 35:17Speaker 3: five Robin's kids, Like it would just be interesting, and
- 35:20Speaker 3: it's just crazy that he went from that to where
- 35:24Speaker 3: he is now. Well.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Even his answer though, was a little equivocating and shady
- 35:29Speaker 1: to me because it wasn't like absolutely, you know, I
- 35:32Speaker 1: make it a point to connect with my children, make
- 35:35Speaker 1: sure that I'm accessible and available to all my kids. No,
- 35:38Speaker 1: what he does is simply compare himself to a monogamous man, right,
- 35:42Speaker 1: Like the monogamous man that I know has spent about
- 35:43Speaker 1: the same amount of time as I do with my kids. Okay, well,
- 35:47Speaker 1: but what does that mean because who are your monogamous friends?
- 35:50Speaker 1: That's very anecdotal.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Well, I'm like, what monogamous has seventeen kids? Besides like
- 35:54Speaker 3: the Douggers. Yeah, Like I don't really know any other
- 35:57Speaker 3: family that's like that large, but I mean, whatever, right,
- 36:00Speaker 3: whatever you say, Cody. And then someone else asks another
- 36:03Speaker 3: question to the wives, and it was something about like,
- 36:08Speaker 3: how can you feel liberated in this relationship when your
- 36:11Speaker 3: husband's just sleeping with other women all the time. And
- 36:14Speaker 3: Mary speaks up and she's like, you know, how liberating
- 36:16Speaker 3: it is to not have to sleep with Cody every night?
- 36:18Speaker 3: It's like so great, And then everybody laughs, and I'm
- 36:21Speaker 3: just thinking like.
- 36:22Speaker 2: Is it great? Is it great?
- 36:23Speaker 3: Like is this the point where any nookie you sure
- 36:27Speaker 3: about that in a couple of years you're gonna.
- 36:29Speaker 2: Be sucking on a banana about catfish?
- 36:32Speaker 3: Oh my god?
- 36:33Speaker 2: So liberating?
- 36:34Speaker 1: Yeah, But again, lies lies, lies, performance, trying to keep
- 36:40Speaker 1: the gravy train going, trying to keep the show going.
- 36:43Speaker 2: It's all just false.
- 36:45Speaker 3: It's crazy. And what I really liked was the professor's
- 36:49Speaker 3: bits in this episode because he's like looking at them
- 36:52Speaker 3: like they're a case study, which is awesome, and he,
- 36:55Speaker 3: I guess has studied a lot of other polygamist families
- 36:58Speaker 3: and cults and stuff over the years. He was not
- 37:00Speaker 3: involved in the Warren Jeff's cults, but he was involved
- 37:02Speaker 3: in a couple others. And he said, in his experience,
- 37:06Speaker 3: like thirty five percent of polygamous couples were like happy,
- 37:10Speaker 3: the other thirty five percent were like trying but they
- 37:13Speaker 3: were struggling, and then the other thirty percent were just
- 37:16Speaker 3: like completely absolutely dysfunctional and miserable. And he said that
- 37:20Speaker 3: this would be very similar to monogamous couples that he studied,
- 37:24Speaker 3: And I'm like, who paid you to say that, right,
- 37:26Speaker 3: And then he makes like a really interesting observation at
- 37:29Speaker 3: the end where he said, if polygamy was going to
- 37:33Speaker 3: be successful, there's like three criteria for it, and one
- 37:36Speaker 3: of them was the families were economically well off, so
- 37:39Speaker 3: all the women and all the kids and everything were
- 37:42Speaker 3: paid for. The husband also worked very hard to manage
- 37:46Speaker 3: his affection, and if he had a favorite wife, he
- 37:49Speaker 3: kept it quiet. And then the third, most importantly, the
- 37:52Speaker 3: sister wives were all friends. And he says that the
- 37:54Speaker 3: Browns have all three and that they are a good
- 37:58Speaker 3: example of how polygamy can work. And he's like talking
- 38:02Speaker 3: about it, like maybe we can offer this as like
- 38:04Speaker 3: an alternative lifestyle for people, and maybe it can be
- 38:07Speaker 3: a good thing, and that was why he wanted to
- 38:09Speaker 3: do this panel. I'm just like thinking, but any if
- 38:11Speaker 3: those things are true, No, And I wonder if he
- 38:14Speaker 3: could tell that Cody had a favorite wife in this
- 38:16Speaker 3: period of time. But it's just interesting that he said
- 38:19Speaker 3: that as like a criteria that if they had a
- 38:21Speaker 3: favorite wife, they just kept it quiet, and Cody couldn't
- 38:24Speaker 3: do that. He couldn't do that at all. He could
- 38:27Speaker 3: have probably kept these women forever if he just managed
- 38:32Speaker 3: the affection.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yep, and the schedule and didn't show overt favoritism. And
- 38:37Speaker 1: I thought the finances part was very interesting as well,
- 38:40Speaker 1: because up until this point it has been functionally equal.
- 38:44Speaker 1: You know, Rent's being paid, they each have a house
- 38:47Speaker 1: in the Call to Sack. It is at this point
- 38:49Speaker 1: on though, that I think we're going to start seeing
- 38:52Speaker 1: or smelling the trash of the siphoning of the funds,
- 38:56Speaker 1: Robin getting for whatever reason, the benefit more of the
- 38:59Speaker 1: benefit of the funds, and things are going to start
- 39:02Speaker 1: to be inequitable, and it's going to be interesting for
- 39:05Speaker 1: all three of those. He fails, Yep, he's actually and
- 39:09Speaker 1: on two of them. He's failing right now, oh for sure,
- 39:12Speaker 1: Like he's going to end up failing on all three points.
- 39:14Speaker 2: Yep.
- 39:15Speaker 3: And that's why they completely destroy their family because Cody
- 39:18Speaker 3: couldn't manage the family, you know.
- 39:20Speaker 1: And I was just like side eyeing that, professor. I'm like, okay,
- 39:22Speaker 1: but based on what stats though, based on what studies?
- 39:26Speaker 1: Are you talking about your personal study? Let's look at
- 39:28Speaker 1: the numbers, like how, I mean, how many polygamists have
- 39:30Speaker 1: you actually interviewed versus monogamous people. I just it just
- 39:35Speaker 1: felt very like a throwaway anecdote and his personal observation,
- 39:40Speaker 1: but I don't think it bears out in practicality and
- 39:43Speaker 1: in actual human lives. I actually knew somebody, a guy
- 39:47Speaker 1: who lived in Salt Lake City, and I knew him
- 39:50Speaker 1: for quite some time before he finally divulged to me
- 39:54Speaker 1: that his mother was like one of three or four
- 39:58Speaker 1: other wives.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Oh wo.
- 40:00Speaker 1: He made me swear not never to take to tell anybody,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and here I am on a podcast. He actually passed
- 40:06Speaker 1: away quite about twenty years ago. As a long time ago. Yeah,
- 40:08Speaker 1: rest In PC was actually a really nice person, but
- 40:10Speaker 1: he developed some very problematic behaviors, including some substance stuff
- 40:16Speaker 1: because he I think had such deep trauma for the
- 40:21Speaker 1: way his family was managed over his childhood and into
- 40:25Speaker 1: his adulthood and it was all very sad, but like
- 40:28Speaker 1: he was a full grown adult, he was an adult person,
- 40:31Speaker 1: a professional person, but he was still not feeling comfortable
- 40:34Speaker 1: enough to talk about it at the time. Now, this
- 40:37Speaker 1: was this predates Sister Wives, but.
- 40:39Speaker 2: That's just the culture of it.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Like so for my little anecdote, the one person I
- 40:44Speaker 1: knew who was in this particular lifestyle, it was not
- 40:47Speaker 1: a good thing.
- 40:48Speaker 3: I mean yeah, and like we've seen it implode on
- 40:50Speaker 3: TV with just this family, and so it's like it's
- 40:54Speaker 3: objectively not great. I mean, I'm sure maybe it can
- 40:57Speaker 3: work out. I guess at who's expense, you know? Is
- 41:01Speaker 3: it at the women's expense all the time. And that's
- 41:03Speaker 3: why it works out, because the women just ignore their
- 41:06Speaker 3: jealousy and their insecurity and it's.
- 41:08Speaker 2: The ministry of suffering.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what it is.
- 41:11Speaker 1: It's an article of their faith and right to do that.
- 41:13Speaker 3: Right, And like that was like kind of the purpose
- 41:16Speaker 3: of this debate was just to be able to talk
- 41:18Speaker 3: about the opposing viewpoints and like maybe have the browns
- 41:22Speaker 3: acknowledge that they are kind of a unique exception to
- 41:24Speaker 3: this rule, but they couldn't do that. It ended up
- 41:27Speaker 3: being a debate, got a little antagonistic at some points.
- 41:30Speaker 2: I wish we saw.
- 41:31Speaker 3: More of it. Yeah, it was just the majority of
- 41:33Speaker 3: the episode of Christine being afraid, right, but it was
- 41:36Speaker 3: interesting none the less.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it was interesting, Yeah, but it could have been
- 41:39Speaker 1: done differently. I really wanted to hear more from those
- 41:42Speaker 1: kids and the life that they lived, and I wanted
- 41:44Speaker 1: to flesh out ponytail or Cheryl Marie. Yeah, the photographer lady, Like,
- 41:47Speaker 1: how did you get involved in some weird Mormon guru?
- 41:51Speaker 1: I mean what happened there? But that didn't actually sound
- 41:54Speaker 1: like polygamies me. Sounded like you just got caught up
- 41:56Speaker 1: in some very strange relationship scam. Yeah, but it was
- 42:00Speaker 1: still interesting and we should have heard more, Well I didn't.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I wanted to hear more from the angst de teen
- 42:05Speaker 3: what's her name, Colleen? Yeah, because she said she came
- 42:08Speaker 3: from the Kingston cult or whatever, which was based on incest.
- 42:11Speaker 3: So she ended up marrying her cousin or second cousin
- 42:15Speaker 3: or something like that, and so that was like normalized
- 42:18Speaker 3: in their cult, like sisters and brothers and all this stuff,
- 42:22Speaker 3: and so she had all that. I'm like, that would
- 42:24Speaker 3: have been really interesting to hear her story and the
- 42:27Speaker 3: kid from Warren Jeff's cule, but we didn't get to
- 42:29Speaker 3: talk about them really at all. And I wonder if
- 42:32Speaker 3: that was like a TLC production thing, because they didn't
- 42:34Speaker 3: want to shed too much light on how evil some
- 42:38Speaker 3: of these polygamous cults can actually be. It needed to
- 42:40Speaker 3: be just like all about how the Browns are just
- 42:43Speaker 3: not like that.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Though I don't think so, because around this time, Colleen
- 42:47Speaker 1: actually is featured on a show called Escaping Polygamy or something,
- 42:51Speaker 1: and I thought, yeah, for about that. Willie Steed kid
- 42:53Speaker 1: is also featured on that, or like talks about it
- 42:56Speaker 1: on the show. So I think that maybe this is
- 42:59Speaker 1: kind of an enticement or like just like a preview
- 43:02Speaker 1: on the topic that TLC is rolling out so that
- 43:05Speaker 1: people can get interested in this other show that they're
- 43:07Speaker 1: going to launch with Colleen. And I think I remember
- 43:10Speaker 1: watching it back in the day and finding it very fascinating.
- 43:14Speaker 1: Although I don't remember her specifically, she strikes me as
- 43:17Speaker 1: somebody who is deeply, deeply, deeply wounded and changed tour
- 43:21Speaker 1: by her father and her mother and polygamy in general.
- 43:24Speaker 1: And I think the last time she was discussed by
- 43:27Speaker 1: US so one or two seasons ago, and when she
- 43:31Speaker 1: was first shown, like I know, I did a deep
- 43:33Speaker 1: dive on social media and I found out that I
- 43:35Speaker 1: think she went into stripping, but then she kind of
- 43:40Speaker 1: got out of that and she was now doing like
- 43:43Speaker 1: gong baths and singing bowls and New age stuff. And
- 43:46Speaker 1: it's just kind of this pipeline people get on as
- 43:50Speaker 1: they're just trying to work their crap out and figuring
- 43:53Speaker 1: out themselves.
- 43:53Speaker 3: It is a.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Journey, and I don't fault for that at all. Like,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I think she's probably in her late twenties early thirties
- 44:00Speaker 1: right now. I was one mess at that time, of course,
- 44:04Speaker 1: because of the trauma that I had endured in my childhood.
- 44:07Speaker 1: But I wish her well, and I too, I really
- 44:09Speaker 1: wish the Willie Steve guy too. I hope he's doing okay.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Me too, so sad and few Brown's for treating him
- 44:16Speaker 1: that way, Oh.
- 44:17Speaker 3: My god, I know. I'm just like, can you not
- 44:19Speaker 3: validate their experience at all? And meanwhile, all the other
- 44:22Speaker 3: panelists are saying like no, we know that you guys
- 44:25Speaker 3: are an anomaly. You guys are unique. Like, we get it.
- 44:28Speaker 3: I get that you believe that your thing is good.
- 44:31Speaker 3: Just listen to our perspective though, like and why our
- 44:34Speaker 3: perspective is shaped the way it is because of our experience, Like,
- 44:38Speaker 3: but the Browns are just incapable, can't do it. And
- 44:41Speaker 3: then we have a preview for next week's episode. And
- 44:43Speaker 3: this is where Cody gives the wives his ugly jewelry. Yeah,
- 44:47Speaker 3: I can't wait because Christine hates hers. And then we
- 44:51Speaker 3: have a marriage retreat in Sedona.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Right, this is where did we see like glimpses of this.
- 44:58Speaker 3: I don't I think we saw it in like see
- 45:00Speaker 3: eighteen or season nineteen where they did flashbacks or something.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Talkbacks or whatever, where like she positions them according to
- 45:06Speaker 1: how close they feel to Cody, and then Robin's like
- 45:09Speaker 1: right up in his buttle, I'm this close. Yeah, Christine's
- 45:14Speaker 1: like Christine's circle, Yeah she's left the building or yes, yeah, oh.
- 45:19Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 45:19Speaker 1: And she seems also very wounded by whatever happens in
- 45:23Speaker 1: that retreat.
- 45:23Speaker 3: She says it was like the worst part of the
- 45:25Speaker 3: whole entire retreat. So I'm really excited to get It's
- 45:29Speaker 3: going to be really juicy. Okay, and then we have
- 45:31Speaker 3: Janelle of officially being like, yeah, I'm done with my
- 45:34Speaker 3: sister's closet. I think it doesn't really she doesn't really
- 45:37Speaker 3: say that explicitly, but she says something like I have
- 45:39Speaker 3: to be independent?
- 45:40Speaker 1: Do you have to separate from this? And it kind
- 45:42Speaker 1: of the way they presented it sort of makes you
- 45:45Speaker 1: wonder like, do you mean the family? I know, of
- 45:48Speaker 1: course she doesn't. I think she's talking about my sister
- 45:50Speaker 1: wife's of course closet, which I love.
- 45:54Speaker 2: And I can't I cannot wait either.
- 45:56Speaker 3: I can't wait to see Robin's job get really hard.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Oh god, Well, is there anything else that we need
- 46:01Speaker 1: to say to these beautiful raccoons before we get up
- 46:04Speaker 1: on at a hire beaudress?
- 46:05Speaker 3: Well, if you love our podcast, please go to your

- 46:46Speaker 1: you want to, if you know what I mean. And
- 46:48Speaker 1: once it comes back, we're going to be stepping away
- 46:51Speaker 1: from season six. Yeah, we're going to be reconvening our
- 46:55Speaker 1: season nineteen coverage and then we'll figure out what we're
- 46:58Speaker 1: doing after that. But so the result of our.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Pole, yeah, on YouTube and Instagram, it looks like all
