- 2:37Speaker 5: good morning and welcome to the show.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Good morning and happy Early Easter.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Happy Early Easter, Happy Good Friday, happy all the things.
- 2:45Speaker 5: As always our Adopt Me Please Pet of the weeks
- 2:47Speaker 5: pick posted at Dave Island Radio and the WCCHS network
- 2:51Speaker 5: Facebook page, as well as at dave a seventy on
- 2:54Speaker 5: X tell us about Darwin.
- 2:58Speaker 6: So, Darwin came to Casey as astray. He was I
- 3:02Speaker 6: mean this just giant hairball. Kind of looked like a
- 3:05Speaker 6: brillowpad if I'm being honest. He was covered in Matt's
- 3:09Speaker 6: and his hair was extremely overgrown. So a volunteer that
- 3:13Speaker 6: also happens to be a groomer decided to give him
- 3:15Speaker 6: a haircut on the house. So he looks like the
- 3:17Speaker 6: picture that's posted on your Facebook page. Now, he's the
- 3:21Speaker 6: sweetest dog. He loves, loves, loves to go on walks
- 3:25Speaker 6: with volunteers. If you're gonna volunteer at KCHA, and I'm
- 3:28Speaker 6: getting you started, you're gonna be walking Darwin. But he
- 3:32Speaker 6: he loves walks. He's already neutered, vaccinated, microchips, all that
- 3:35Speaker 6: good stuff. He does love to play with other dogs.
- 3:39Speaker 6: I'm not so sure about cats. And he is fifty
- 3:43Speaker 6: one pounds and about two years old. We're guessing so.
- 3:46Speaker 6: And he also has a brother at KCHA. His brother's
- 3:49Speaker 6: name is Gumball. So if you missed the chance to
- 3:51Speaker 6: adopt Darwin, there's another Darwin for you.
- 3:53Speaker 5: So the name Darwin. Where does that come from? Because
- 3:56Speaker 5: you always have a unique story about these pets in
- 3:58Speaker 5: their names. Where does Darwin come from?
- 4:01Speaker 6: So Darwin and Gumball are characters on this kid's TV
- 4:04Speaker 6: show on Cartoon Network. They're also brothers. It's called the
- 4:08Speaker 6: I think the Amazing Adventures of Gumball or something.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Okay, right, all right? So again we get Darwin's picture
- 4:15Speaker 5: posted on Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and the WCHS
- 4:18Speaker 5: network Facebook page as well as at Dave A seventy
- 4:21Speaker 5: on AX. Do we know the situation? I know he
- 4:23Speaker 5: was brought in to his hair was all mad and whatnot.
- 4:25Speaker 5: Do we know, you know, without going into too much here,
- 4:28Speaker 5: exactly how he ended up in that shape? Did just
- 4:30Speaker 5: lack of care from somebody or what?
- 4:32Speaker 6: I would be willing to wager that they were probably
- 4:35Speaker 6: outside dogs that didn't you know, they're not jumping up
- 4:38Speaker 6: on your couch and you know you're sitting there like
- 4:40Speaker 6: petting them and noticing that their hair is getting mad
- 4:42Speaker 6: at So I would be willing to bet that that's
- 4:44Speaker 6: the situation because they were found outside just running loose.
- 4:48Speaker 6: They've been at our shelter for quite some time now,
- 4:50Speaker 6: almost a month, and no one has come up to
- 4:52Speaker 6: to reclaim them. So I would say that their life
- 4:55Speaker 6: has been spent a lot of time outside and no
- 4:58Speaker 6: one's really kind of paid close attention to him.
- 5:01Speaker 5: Do we have any idea what kind of dog Darwin is?
- 5:04Speaker 6: Uh so, I like I would put my money on
- 5:07Speaker 6: like a terrier mix of sorts.
- 5:09Speaker 5: That's kind of what I thought. That's kind of what
- 5:11Speaker 5: I thought, I thought and large right, And I noticed that.
- 5:15Speaker 5: And again the pictures posted you can see the groomer
- 5:18Speaker 5: did a fantastic job with Darwin, especially from what he
- 5:21Speaker 5: looked like when he when he got there. But he's
- 5:23Speaker 5: still got some of that fur on his on his legs,
- 5:26Speaker 5: which is all I mean, it's it's been trimmed, it's
- 5:28Speaker 5: all clean and everything now. But that leads me to believe,
- 5:30Speaker 5: and again I'm not an expert necessarily on dog breeds,
- 5:33Speaker 5: but that leads me to believe probably a terrier, like you.
- 5:35Speaker 6: Said, yeah, that's my best guess, a large breed carrier,
- 5:40Speaker 6: maybe even like one of these doodle oodle doodle mixes.
- 5:44Speaker 6: Maybe some of that, but I can't I can't say
- 5:47Speaker 6: for sure. I just know he is fuzzy and has
- 5:50Speaker 6: that that like people eyes kind of kind of look
- 5:53Speaker 6: about him.
- 5:53Speaker 5: He's a beautiful dog and as you said, he would
- 5:55Speaker 5: make a fantastic pet for somebody. We'll get back to
- 5:57Speaker 5: Darwin in a moment now. Last week you told us
- 6:00Speaker 5: that you were forced to halt intakes at the shelter.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Where are we now?
- 6:04Speaker 6: So we made the decision after more positive cases that
- 6:07Speaker 6: we saw in number one in our shelter and number
- 6:09Speaker 6: two in the community. We paused intakes for another week,
- 6:13Speaker 6: and the good news is that the cases are dwindling
- 6:16Speaker 6: down from what we've seen. We just want a solid
- 6:20Speaker 6: week of no positive cases before we subject another dog
- 6:23Speaker 6: to coming in and possibly getting sick. So we are
- 6:27Speaker 6: holding off on another week. We should be starting intake
- 6:30Speaker 6: next Wednesday, providing cases stay at a minimum in and
- 6:34Speaker 6: around the shelter.
- 6:36Speaker 5: All right, but again we're talking to Angie Gillenwater with
- 6:38Speaker 5: this week's adopt me. Please put it the weekend updigting
- 6:40Speaker 5: this on some things going on at the shelter. Dave
- 6:43Speaker 5: Island Show on five eighty line, brought to you part
- 6:45Speaker 5: by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. Single
- 6:47Speaker 5: game tickets and season tickets are on sale now. At
- 6:49Speaker 5: the website and be sure and get your tickets for
- 6:51Speaker 5: the May fifth WVU Marshall game as well. For more,
- 6:54Speaker 5: visit dirtybirds baseball dot com. What are you currently in
- 6:57Speaker 5: need of at the shelter?
- 6:59Speaker 6: So our biggest needs right now are blankets. With the
- 7:02Speaker 6: distemper cases that have been in and around the shelter,
- 7:05Speaker 6: We're having to throw away a lot of our linens
- 7:07Speaker 6: because they can't be properly sanitized. So blankets, towels, sheets,
- 7:11Speaker 6: any type of linen cleaning products, so we're thinking dishwashing, liquid, gloves,
- 7:17Speaker 6: paper towels. If you can clean with it, we will
- 7:20Speaker 6: take it. And then also wet food for dogs and
- 7:23Speaker 6: cats with any brand.
- 7:24Speaker 5: We had a text here for you, ang you said,
- 7:26Speaker 5: how are the kittens that were rescued from the house fire.
- 7:29Speaker 6: So the kittens actually stole the hearts of one of
- 7:32Speaker 6: our staff members, Katie, and she took them home to
- 7:35Speaker 6: foster them. They're doing They're all doing fabulous. She's bottle
- 7:39Speaker 6: feeding them every couple hours throughout the night and throughout
- 7:42Speaker 6: the day. They're all in perfect health. And Katie also
- 7:46Speaker 6: went as far to go back to the area to
- 7:48Speaker 6: try to find a mommy cat. She was not able
- 7:50Speaker 6: to locate their mother, but that hasn't slowed her down.
- 7:54Speaker 6: She's now their mother and is taking great care of them.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Well, that's a good story they came out of that tragedy,
- 7:59Speaker 5: because I know it was reported by US and other
- 8:02Speaker 5: media outlets about the kittens that were rescued, and you actually,
- 8:06Speaker 5: you guys actually posted a picture on your Facebook page
- 8:09Speaker 5: of the firefighters holding the kittens and so uh little
- 8:13Speaker 5: little dirty obviously with the with the ashes and everything.
- 8:16Speaker 5: But they're going to be fine, right.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Yeah, they're Their outlook is really good right now, and
- 8:22Speaker 6: like they have the super star foster taking care of
- 8:24Speaker 6: them right now.
- 8:25Speaker 5: So how are your numbers looking? Overall?
- 8:29Speaker 6: We're still in the three hundred range. Typically we are
- 8:33Speaker 6: usually overcrowded with dogs. That is not since we've stopped intake.
- 8:36Speaker 6: Of course, that's not really the case right now. It's
- 8:38Speaker 6: not quite safe for dogs to come in. But we
- 8:41Speaker 6: do have a lot of cats in our building that
- 8:43Speaker 6: are needing foster care, that are needing adopted, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 6: so cats are really tipping the scales at this point.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Are you guys going to be out and about anywhere
- 8:54Speaker 5: this Easter weekend?
- 8:56Speaker 6: We are not we're going to be taking the weekend
- 8:58Speaker 6: nice and.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Slow, as I understand, completely understanding, And I also want
- 9:02Speaker 5: to mention Tucks and Tales, your big fundraiser coming up
- 9:05Speaker 5: April twenty fifth, seven o'clock at JQ Dicketts and Salt
- 9:07Speaker 5: Works in Maldon.
- 9:08Speaker 6: How we looking there, So tickets are still available and
- 9:13Speaker 6: we are getting down to the wire on that. It's
- 9:15Speaker 6: officially tuxas and tailed months, so we're all going to be,
- 9:18Speaker 6: you know, running around trying to make sure this event
- 9:20Speaker 6: is a success. And if you don't know, again it
- 9:22Speaker 6: is our biggest fundraising event of the year, so you
- 9:25Speaker 6: definitely want to be a part of it. There will
- 9:27Speaker 6: be adoptable puppies there for you to level as well
- 9:30Speaker 6: as enjoying all the silent auctions and live music.
- 9:34Speaker 5: All right. The full information again is available on your
- 9:36Speaker 5: website and also on your social media. Angie Gillan water Knaw, Charleston,

- 9:43Speaker 5: We'll talk to you next week. Thanks a lot.
- 9:45Speaker 6: Sounds good you two.
- 9:46Speaker 5: All right, Let's go back and review Darwin here. Darwin
- 9:49Speaker 5: is two years old. He's around fifty three pounds he
- 9:52Speaker 5: is neutered and vaccinated, loves his playgroups and other playful dogs.
- 9:57Speaker 5: And as you heard Angie Jelvi's story, his hair was
- 9:59Speaker 5: an app so the mass that was all matted when
- 10:01Speaker 5: they brought him in there. I saw some of their pictures,
- 10:03Speaker 5: but they got a groomer that was volunteered to kind
- 10:07Speaker 5: of help him out. And it's absolutely beautiful dog. A
- 10:09Speaker 5: little bit of terrier probably, but he's a star dog.
- 10:15Speaker 5: A star of walker, is what Angie tells me about him.
- 10:17Speaker 5: He's that he just loves to go on walks. He's
- 10:20Speaker 5: very very gentle dog, does well with other dogs, loves
- 10:23Speaker 5: to play. Doesn't know about cats yet, but you know,
- 10:27Speaker 5: we'll kind of play it by ear. I guess on that.
- 10:29Speaker 5: But if you'd like to see Darwin's picture again, it's
- 10:32Speaker 5: posted at Dave Island Radio on Facebook, also the WCCHS

- 13:53Speaker 5: welcome to the show.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Good morning, Thank you for having me, thank.
- 13:55Speaker 5: You for being here. Explained Ward ten to us what
- 13:57Speaker 5: areas were talking about.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Ward ten is down in the east end of Charleston.
- 14:01Speaker 9: It's the part of Washington Street on the side that's
- 14:04Speaker 9: furthest away from the river. And then we're talking from
- 14:07Speaker 9: Elizabeth Street where the empty glass and the red carpet
- 14:10Speaker 9: are all the way to the Kanas City Bridge and
- 14:12Speaker 9: then upwards Avenue and take a left around Oak Ridge
- 14:16Speaker 9: and that's pretty much all me including Hillcrest.
- 14:19Speaker 5: All right, so give us your background, give us your
- 14:21Speaker 5: bio so well.
- 14:22Speaker 9: First of all, I want to say thanks for pronouncing
- 14:24Speaker 9: my name so perfectly.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Many people do not.
- 14:29Speaker 5: I will say it is an interesting spelling of Nicki.
- 14:31Speaker 5: Though my sister's name is Niki, she spells it n
- 14:35Speaker 5: I k k I. Yours is n I c k
- 14:37Speaker 5: I E.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Correct. You are so right. There's many variations.
- 14:41Speaker 5: There's a lot of a lot of variations.
- 14:43Speaker 2: And it's a yeah, it's a powerful name. I've enjoyed
- 14:46Speaker 2: it much.
- 14:47Speaker 5: I was going to say, I thought you were going
- 14:48Speaker 5: to say, I've had it my whole life.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Well there's truth to that as well.
- 14:51Speaker 5: All right, you're your background, your bio.
- 14:53Speaker 9: So again, Nikki ass of Welsh I am born and
- 14:57Speaker 9: raised in Charleston, West Virginia, in the East end of
- 14:59Speaker 9: charles Actually I grew up on a street some of
- 15:02Speaker 9: you all might be familiar with it.
- 15:04Speaker 2: It's near Laidley Field called Maxwell Street.
- 15:07Speaker 9: And now I live on Jackson Street, which is very close.
- 15:12Speaker 2: It's pretty much right around the corner.
- 15:13Speaker 9: I was twenty years away and came back because my
- 15:16Speaker 9: business is here, because my family is here, and life
- 15:19Speaker 9: just brought me back that being sad having ended up
- 15:23Speaker 9: in the East end of Charleston again and having remembered
- 15:27Speaker 9: remembering what.
- 15:28Speaker 2: It was like when I was young.
- 15:30Speaker 9: I just feel like I can make an impact in
- 15:31Speaker 9: the area in a positive way.
- 15:34Speaker 5: So that's one of the reasons why you ran for
- 15:36Speaker 5: city council. What are some of the other reasons? Because
- 15:38Speaker 5: I mean, you said you're successful business, you want to
- 15:40Speaker 5: give your business, I'll give you a free plug for
- 15:42Speaker 5: your business.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Oh that's so nice.
- 15:43Speaker 9: Well, I like to think of myself as a successful
- 15:46Speaker 9: female business owner.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Chrissy Assif and.
- 15:49Speaker 9: I are business partners and we own a company called
- 15:51Speaker 9: n Stitches. We're an apparel decoration shop located in Saint Albans,
- 15:55Speaker 9: West Virginia, right on a corkor Avenue.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Okay, all right, So with that having been said, yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 5: let me with your background, your business owner, whatever. Why
- 16:02Speaker 5: would you make the decision to want to run for
- 16:04Speaker 5: city council.
- 16:05Speaker 9: Well, like I said, when I came back, I just
- 16:07Speaker 9: saw a lot of things on the East End of
- 16:09Speaker 9: Charleston that were a lot different than it used to be.
- 16:12Speaker 9: Neighbors didn't didn't know each other, streets were filled with
- 16:16Speaker 9: garbage and trash. There wasn't a pride of place that
- 16:21Speaker 9: I experienced when I walked around, and I'm a big walker.
- 16:24Speaker 9: I walk almost daily throughout the neighborhood, and there was
- 16:29Speaker 9: a vibe that was just missing. And So for that reason,
- 16:32Speaker 9: like I've said to almost every single person, because I've
- 16:35Speaker 9: been knocking on a lot of doors and talking to
- 16:37Speaker 9: a lot of people, I am truly not a politician
- 16:40Speaker 9: at heart. I'm just somebody that wants to make an impact.
- 16:44Speaker 9: And because I'm old, I'm fifty five years old.
- 16:46Speaker 5: Easy now, I saw mine.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Hey, well that I can call you names, Tod, And
- 16:52Speaker 2: so because I'm a little older.
- 16:54Speaker 9: I'm just I see, I'm not afraid to speak up
- 16:56Speaker 9: and speak out, and so I'm just that person that
- 16:59Speaker 9: wants to make an impact in a neighborhood and more
- 17:02Speaker 9: importantly learn as I go, because admittedly not being a politician,
- 17:06Speaker 9: not being real active in that whole front, in that
- 17:10Speaker 9: whole sort of political area, I'm learning as I go.
- 17:14Speaker 9: So since I've decided to throw my hat in, I've
- 17:17Speaker 9: met with the Charleston Area Alliance to learn about the
- 17:21Speaker 9: lift project that's going down that's on Rufner Avenue and
- 17:27Speaker 9: what's the statuses of that. And I was able to
- 17:29Speaker 9: learn a lot of really great things because I was
- 17:31Speaker 9: afraid that that project had been put on hold. But
- 17:34Speaker 9: what I've learned is that there's a lot of positive
- 17:36Speaker 9: movement in that area. Construction is beginning, and right now
- 17:40Speaker 9: we're just seeking a really great, strong tenant to occupy that.
- 17:45Speaker 9: If I remember right, it's either fifty thousand or five
- 17:48Speaker 9: hundred thousand.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Square feet one of those.
- 17:49Speaker 9: I know there's a big sure from those zeros we
- 17:52Speaker 9: could leave one.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, so yeah that's great.
- 17:56Speaker 9: And then I've you know, gone to a cure meeting
- 17:58Speaker 9: and I've gone to some city count meetings just to
- 18:01Speaker 9: just to get a better understanding of how things work.
- 18:03Speaker 5: Now, one of the things about Charleston City Council that
- 18:05Speaker 5: makes it unique. Number one, it's a ward style government,
- 18:08Speaker 5: you know, like in some cities around here had that.
- 18:10Speaker 5: But you got a lot of people in city council,
- 18:12Speaker 5: I mean Charleston City. You know, city council is so I.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Saw, so I've learned very well. So I've been told.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Very large city council. So the things that you talk
- 18:22Speaker 5: about wanting to do, obviously not only will you be
- 18:24Speaker 5: working with the mayor, but you're also gonna be working
- 18:26Speaker 5: with a lot of other council members. How do you work?
- 18:29Speaker 5: I guess the question would be do you play well
- 18:31Speaker 5: with others? Do you work well with others?
- 18:33Speaker 10: Well?
- 18:33Speaker 2: It depends on who you ask. If you ask my
- 18:35Speaker 2: brother John asked if he'd probably say no, okay, but.
- 18:38Speaker 9: That's pretty standard right with sibling sibling situations. If you
- 18:43Speaker 9: ask others in the community, people that I work with,
- 18:47Speaker 9: people that I associate with on a regular base today basis,
- 18:51Speaker 9: I would say, yes, I do play well with others.
- 18:53Speaker 9: I think it's really important that we bring unification. I mean,
- 18:57Speaker 9: I think that unify in front is how we get
- 19:01Speaker 9: things done.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I think that is crucial.
- 19:05Speaker 9: And you know, it's so interesting because in talking to
- 19:08Speaker 9: so many people and neighbors in the in the area
- 19:11Speaker 9: in which I'm in which I want to represent, what
- 19:16Speaker 9: I have.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Really come to is that.
- 19:20Speaker 9: You know, the East End of Charleston has kind of
- 19:22Speaker 9: gotten a bad rap. When I tell people that I
- 19:26Speaker 9: live in the East End, they're horrified. And what's been
- 19:29Speaker 9: wonderful to see and really grasp and understand now is
- 19:34Speaker 9: that when.
- 19:34Speaker 2: I knock on these doors, it's just like it used
- 19:36Speaker 2: to be.
- 19:37Speaker 9: People are good, people are wonderful, people are family and
- 19:42Speaker 9: and they're good people.
- 19:44Speaker 2: I mean, we have a range of from.
- 19:46Speaker 9: Judges to doctors to you know, hourly workers, and that
- 19:50Speaker 9: is how it's always been. It's been a it's been
- 19:52Speaker 9: a community of diversity both you know, I'm Lebanese, there's
- 19:57Speaker 9: African American people, there's all there's Italian people, there's Jewish
- 20:01Speaker 9: people that we all make up this wonderful community. And
- 20:03Speaker 9: knocking on doors has helped me to remember that this
- 20:06Speaker 9: community is just made of wonderful people.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And I believe Dave, I know, are you staring at me?
- 20:11Speaker 5: Fundy like I believe Jonny Face I have.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I'm sorry, no, Angie Lawrence is here with me.
- 20:17Speaker 9: Like, here's the thing what I believe, and this is
- 20:20Speaker 9: the honest to God truth from the bottom of my soul,
- 20:23Speaker 9: is that if we and I know this sounds like
- 20:25Speaker 9: such a simple thing, but in the East End where
- 20:27Speaker 9: I live, there's so many beautiful homes in front porches
- 20:30Speaker 9: that if we have porch parties again, that we will
- 20:33Speaker 9: the good will start drowning out the bad, the things
- 20:36Speaker 9: that people are afraid of. In the East End, that
- 20:39Speaker 9: light always outshines darkness. It's the whole battle of good
- 20:43Speaker 9: and evil. And I just am a believer that good's
- 20:45Speaker 9: always gonna win.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Talking to Nikki as of Welchew is running for Charleston
- 20:49Speaker 5: City Council out of Ward ten. One of the issues
- 20:51Speaker 5: that Charleston and really all of West Virginia has had
- 20:54Speaker 5: is the loss of population. Correct, and you and I
- 20:58Speaker 5: are the same age, but you can remember and Charleston
- 21:00Speaker 5: had a whole lot more people than what it does now.
- 21:03Speaker 5: What do you think that that that a city government,
- 21:06Speaker 5: whether it's counsel or whatever, can do to try to
- 21:09Speaker 5: get the word out that they people need to come
- 21:11Speaker 5: to Charleston, whether either for residency or for business or whatever.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I love it.
- 21:15Speaker 9: I love that question, and I think that there are
- 21:17Speaker 9: so many parts that we can answer it, like so
- 21:20Speaker 9: many directions we can go. I mean, obviously, tourism is great.
- 21:23Speaker 9: Our mayor comes from a great tourism background, and I
- 21:26Speaker 9: think that she's brought back for God and done some
- 21:29Speaker 9: really wonderful things. And so with that, I don't know
- 21:33Speaker 9: the statistics, but I know there's multi millions billions of
- 21:36Speaker 9: dollars being spent, and so I think attracting, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 9: bringing people into the area. I think we can capitalize
- 21:43Speaker 9: on all the wonderful things that our state is doing.
- 21:45Speaker 9: You know, the New River Gorge being a National park.
- 21:49Speaker 9: It's bringing tons of people to the area. So not
- 21:52Speaker 9: only tourism, but also I think we just need some
- 21:56Speaker 9: great campaigns. I think we need the voice to show hey,
- 21:59Speaker 9: this is a great town, This is a great place
- 22:01Speaker 9: to raise a family, this is a safe community. Yes,
- 22:05Speaker 9: we have some little things that go on, but every
- 22:08Speaker 9: place does.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But all in all, you know, Charleston is a good
- 22:12Speaker 2: it's a good place. It has a river. You know,
- 22:15Speaker 2: I grew up here. I used to believe that every
- 22:17Speaker 2: city had this a beautiful river.
- 22:19Speaker 9: It wasn't until I moved to Columbus, Ohio that I
- 22:22Speaker 9: was like, wait a second, where's.
- 22:23Speaker 2: The waterways the river?
- 22:24Speaker 6: Right?
- 22:25Speaker 2: Where are the waterways here? There, and there? It's just
- 22:27Speaker 2: a whole different vibe.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:30Speaker 5: So, how's the campaign been so far?
- 22:31Speaker 9: You know, I've totally totally enjoyed it. What it's forced
- 22:35Speaker 9: me to do is to get out of my comfort
- 22:36Speaker 9: zone and to meet people, shake hands with people, and
- 22:39Speaker 9: really to experience events and Charleston that I otherwise wouldn't.
- 22:42Speaker 9: Last night, I was lucky enough a friend had invited
- 22:44Speaker 9: me to go to the the Goodwill seventy fifth annual
- 22:49Speaker 9: dinner and if I remember right, it was timeless Impact,
- 22:52Speaker 9: whether it's the theme, and boy was that so inspiring.
- 22:55Speaker 9: And to allow myself, I think to myself, what have
- 22:59Speaker 9: I been doing for the last eight years that I've
- 23:01Speaker 9: been in Charleston, Because to allow myself to experience that
- 23:05Speaker 9: kind of upliftingness, you know, it's pretty cool. And I
- 23:09Speaker 9: mean for that, I'm thankful. No matter what happens in
- 23:11Speaker 9: the election, I'm thankful for that. The one thing, can
- 23:14Speaker 9: I say one other thing? David So here's the thing.
- 23:17Speaker 5: Here's the thing.
- 23:18Speaker 9: As you said, the primary election is May twelfth for
- 23:22Speaker 9: this race in War ten. That is such a crucial
- 23:27Speaker 9: time because in this race there are three candidates running,
- 23:31Speaker 9: we're all Democrats, and it is during the primary election
- 23:35Speaker 9: for those that may not be avid voters, but it's
- 23:37Speaker 9: during that election that your vote can be heard and
- 23:41Speaker 9: counted and really impact the bottom line. So we need
- 23:44Speaker 9: you to come out, no matter who you vote for.
- 23:46Speaker 9: Obviously I want your vote, but just to be there
- 23:50Speaker 9: and be present. And the cool thing is, since I've
- 23:52Speaker 9: been knocking on doors, there are two people and this
- 23:54Speaker 9: is the research I have to do still that really
- 23:57Speaker 9: want me to help them get registered to vote.
- 23:58Speaker 2: How cool is that. That's called making an impact? Baby?
- 24:02Speaker 2: All right?
- 24:03Speaker 5: So what are you hearing other than I need you
- 24:05Speaker 5: to help me to register vote. What are you hearing
- 24:06Speaker 5: out there from people when you've gone door knocking, or
- 24:08Speaker 5: you've gone to these different events or whatever. What do
- 24:10Speaker 5: you hear from the people of the East end of Charleston.
- 24:12Speaker 2: What have you heard?
- 24:14Speaker 9: Just out of curiosity, I mean, because you talk to
- 24:16Speaker 9: so many people campaign, but I'm just so curious to
- 24:18Speaker 9: know if it's if it's the same because what I
- 24:21Speaker 9: hear is, you know, what are you doing about the
- 24:22Speaker 9: trash on the streets? What are you gonna do about
- 24:24Speaker 9: the homeless situation, What are you gonna do about the population?
- 24:27Speaker 9: What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do?
- 24:29Speaker 9: And I'm just not one who likes to promise too much.
- 24:32Speaker 9: Even in my business. I say, we like to under
- 24:35Speaker 9: under promise and over deliver. And so what I say
- 24:38Speaker 9: to that is is that I'm willing to get in,
- 24:41Speaker 9: roll up my sleeves and see what we can do
- 24:44Speaker 9: as a team. As we talked earlier about being a
- 24:47Speaker 9: unified front, a unified effort. Again, what I know, the
- 24:53Speaker 9: only thing I know one hundred percent is that we've
- 24:56Speaker 9: been given this beautiful place to live and that it infrastructure.
- 25:02Speaker 9: It might need some tweaking, but it is here. And
- 25:06Speaker 9: this is the other part that I know is that
- 25:08Speaker 9: good always wins. Good always wins. So if we're all
- 25:11Speaker 9: working together to be better, to be good, then I
- 25:16Speaker 9: just have to believe that that that'll get us there,
- 25:19Speaker 9: one step at a time.
- 25:21Speaker 5: Talking again to a nicky ass of Welsh Welsh who
- 25:23Speaker 5: is a candidate for Charleston City Council, in Ward ten,
- 25:26Speaker 5: but Dave Island Show and five Adieline Browns. You inmpirted

- 25:43Speaker 5: don't know can hurt you. Do you have a website
- 25:45Speaker 5: or social media or anything you'd like to.
- 25:48Speaker 9: No website, but I am on Facebook Nicki Assif and
- 25:52Speaker 9: that's a double s is and sam e double f
- 25:55Speaker 9: as in Frank Welsh w.
- 25:57Speaker 2: E l s h.
- 25:58Speaker 9: That's my personal page. But feel free to like me
- 26:01Speaker 9: and do all that stuff there. Also, I have a
- 26:03Speaker 9: campaign page. It's campaigned to elect Nicki Assaf Welsh for
- 26:08Speaker 9: City Council War ten.
- 26:10Speaker 5: Final thirty was shoing, someone vote for you for city
- 26:13Speaker 5: council in Ward ten.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Well, first let me say you don't lie. This did
- 26:17Speaker 2: go fast. I can't believe it.
- 26:20Speaker 9: So people should vote for me because born and raised
- 26:24Speaker 9: in Charleston, understand what it was, what it can be,
- 26:28Speaker 9: and I do understand the heart and soul of the
- 26:31Speaker 9: East End. I understand the people that live there, the
- 26:34Speaker 9: diversity it has both from an ethnic standpoint as well
- 26:38Speaker 9: as a socioeconomic situation. The other part that I think
- 26:44Speaker 9: people need to remember and hang on to is that
- 26:49Speaker 9: that that I know you didn't like this. But I'm
- 26:52Speaker 9: older and I just have I'm not afraid of others,
- 26:56Speaker 9: and I do play well with others.
- 26:58Speaker 2: And because I don't have that sort.
- 26:59Speaker 9: Of fear, I feel like I can bring people to ease,
- 27:03Speaker 9: make them feel comfortable, and that.
- 27:05Speaker 2: We can get something done. We can make things happen,
- 27:07Speaker 2: and we can get traction.
- 27:08Speaker 5: For the record, the only reason I said I didn't
- 27:10Speaker 5: like is because I'm the same age. That's why it's
- 27:12Speaker 5: minfl What what month were you born in?
- 27:15Speaker 2: What month were you born in?
- 27:17Speaker 5: September?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Okay, so I'm a little bit on.
- 27:20Speaker 9: May May first, Happy early birthday.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Thank you and my cohort here, Angie Lawrence.
- 27:25Speaker 9: She is born May fourth, and we've been friends since
- 27:28Speaker 9: second grade. So we've and we've May the fourth be
- 27:32Speaker 9: with you. We celebrated a lot of birthdays together, Nicky.
- 27:36Speaker 5: I appreciate you being here.
- 27:37Speaker 9: Go ahead, one more thing I do want to give
- 27:39Speaker 9: a huge shout out to my campaign manager, Stacy Angel.
- 27:43Speaker 9: She has been amazing and coordinating efforts for me, David.
- 27:47Speaker 9: I think she's the one that actually reached out to you.
- 27:49Speaker 9: She's set up a lot of meetings for me and
- 27:53Speaker 9: has been by my side knocking on doors and doing
- 27:55Speaker 9: different things, and I could not be more grateful.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Thank you, Stacy.
- 27:58Speaker 5: All right, and literally you were noting on doors this
- 28:00Speaker 5: morning because our office here is closed for a good Friday,
- 28:04Speaker 5: and I failed because I didn't know that at the time.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I didn't when your campaign manager contacted me about you
- 28:10Speaker 5: coming on the show, I said, yeah, just come on
- 28:12Speaker 5: and be here at I like at nine o'clock or
- 28:13Speaker 5: something like that. And Stacey had to call me this
- 28:15Speaker 5: morning and say, hey, they can't get in the building
- 28:18Speaker 5: because but we got you in That's all that mattered.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Thank you, David.
- 28:21Speaker 9: And I just need you to know that, like you know,
- 28:23Speaker 9: once again, I am not the person that's used to this.
- 28:26Speaker 9: And so when that door was locked, my whole stomach saying.
- 28:30Speaker 5: You're good. We got you in here now, all right,
- 28:33Speaker 5: Nikki as of welch, I appreciate you being here and
- 28:35Speaker 5: best of luck in the campaign. We'll talk soon.

- 31:04Speaker 13: so I hopefully see that here on the show here soon.
- 31:07Speaker 5: So going forward, all guests have to bring at least
- 31:11Speaker 5: one gift. I mean, is that fair?
- 31:13Speaker 3: That's a heart? That's a horror follow to that.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Now, it's kind of a running joke because I came
- 31:18Speaker 5: in when I had President Cage on the show a
- 31:21Speaker 5: couple of years ago. I forget what kind of a
- 31:23Speaker 5: coffee mug I was drinking out. He said, you need
- 31:25Speaker 5: a West Virginian state mug, and then he came and
- 31:27Speaker 5: oddly enough, I am not drinking out of a wester
- 31:29Speaker 5: Rudinian state mug. Today I got an ESPN radio mug,
- 31:32Speaker 5: but because of you, I have a nice travel mug now.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Absolutely absolutely, and we always appreciate our relationship with the
- 31:40Speaker 5: folks in West Virginia State and Brenda Belinda Fuller. I'm sorry,
- 31:42Speaker 5: welcome to the show to you as well.
- 31:44Speaker 14: Thank you.
- 31:45Speaker 5: You're a sort time you've been on the show, isn't it?
- 31:46Speaker 6: It is?
- 31:47Speaker 5: Okay? All right, So it's a big night folks, Black
- 31:50Speaker 5: Time Fair next Friday night. Somebody jump in and.
- 31:53Speaker 13: Talk about So, you know, at West Virginia State University,
- 31:56Speaker 13: we're proud that we are celebrating at twelfth annual Black
- 32:01Speaker 13: and Gold Gala here in Charleston, West Virginia. And for us,
- 32:06Speaker 13: you know, this is a partnership between West Virginia State
- 32:08Speaker 13: University and West Virginia State University Foundation to raise critical
- 32:13Speaker 13: funds for student support, academic programs and also to uh,
- 32:19Speaker 13: you know, parties of.
- 32:19Speaker 3: The West Virginia State University.
- 32:21Speaker 13: For us that we we think this is one of
- 32:24Speaker 13: the who's of who opportunities to come and celebrate West
- 32:27Speaker 13: Virginia State University and connecting us. But also it gives
- 32:30Speaker 13: us an opportunity to invite our alum our community leaders
- 32:34Speaker 13: and supporters within the area to come and celebrate with us.
- 32:39Speaker 13: I mean, obviously we make the main thing the main thing,
- 32:41Speaker 13: which is our students. So Blinna will talk more about,
- 32:45Speaker 13: you know, what will happen at the event. But I
- 32:48Speaker 13: do be remiss if I did not acknowledge that we
- 32:51Speaker 13: do have too wonderful West Virginia State University presidential honorees,
- 32:56Speaker 13: which will be the late late Katherin Kitty Dooley and
- 33:01Speaker 13: then mister Tom Haywood. So We're truly excited to honor
- 33:05Speaker 13: those and I'll talk about that later in the show.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Okay, and Blinda, you are the assistant vice president of
- 33:10Speaker 5: Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. Yes, well, so what does
- 33:13Speaker 5: I mean? Obviously it's in your title, but to explain
- 33:15Speaker 5: it a little bit more, what does that entail?
- 33:17Speaker 14: So with alumni relations, we have over ten thousand alums
- 33:23Speaker 14: right here in the area, so it's trying to communicate
- 33:27Speaker 14: with them, meet them where they are so we can
- 33:30Speaker 14: all come back with a yellow Jacket spirit and support
- 33:33Speaker 14: West Virginia State University. If it's meeting with them to
- 33:38Speaker 14: see how we can support their way of how they
- 33:42Speaker 14: want to support the university through voluntarism, and it's just
- 33:47Speaker 14: really great to see everyone in this area. We're in
- 33:52Speaker 14: their state paraphernalia, having conversations with them, talking about the
- 33:57Speaker 14: history of West Virginia State and what that means to
- 33:59Speaker 14: them and how they would like to give back in
- 34:02Speaker 14: any way that they would like.
- 34:03Speaker 5: My son, you know that I had President Cage on
- 34:05Speaker 5: the show. We talked about that a little bit, about
- 34:07Speaker 5: that pride that goes along with being a West Virginia
- 34:09Speaker 5: State alumna. We gets from great universities in the state
- 34:11Speaker 5: of West Virginia. We all know that, but I've noticed
- 34:14Speaker 5: a little bit of an extra a little extra pride
- 34:18Speaker 5: when I talk to West Virginia State. And of course
- 34:21Speaker 5: we depend a lot on our text line here. Every
- 34:23Speaker 5: time I have somebody on from State, whether it's whether
- 34:26Speaker 5: I'm talking to the basketball coach Brian Poorr or President Cage, whatever,
- 34:30Speaker 5: I always get text to say, proud State, you know,
- 34:33Speaker 5: graduate of seventy six or eighty five, or whatever the
- 34:35Speaker 5: case may be. It's like they kind of take that
- 34:38Speaker 5: yellowjacket pride with them, not to sound like a commercial
- 34:40Speaker 5: wherever they go, Yes they do.
- 34:42Speaker 14: And I can go anywhere I wear my state gear
- 34:45Speaker 14: all over the place, and I'm always having conversations. It
- 34:49Speaker 14: doesn't matter if I'm in Walmart in the airports. I
- 34:51Speaker 14: could be in another state and someone will stop me
- 34:54Speaker 14: and say, hey, I'm a Yellow Jacket too, and we'll
- 34:56Speaker 14: have a great conversation. And we stay connected with them
- 34:59Speaker 14: on We send down newsletters so they can stay connected
- 35:02Speaker 14: with the university. And it's just a wonderful relationship with
- 35:05Speaker 14: our alumni.
- 35:06Speaker 5: And talk about Trey, who we're gonna be honoring again.
- 35:08Speaker 5: You mentioned Tom Haywood and Kitty Dooley, and I'll tell
- 35:10Speaker 5: you I had the pleasure of having Kitty Dooley on
- 35:13Speaker 5: this show a few times. What a fantastic lady.
- 35:15Speaker 13: She was, such an incredible soul and in a game
- 35:19Speaker 13: changer and agent change uh here in this community and
- 35:22Speaker 13: beyond the late Katherin Kitty Dooley, And for us she
- 35:26Speaker 13: served on our Bord of Governors for a period of
- 35:28Speaker 13: Tom and we wanted to celebrate her life and legacy
- 35:32Speaker 13: that she has impacted West Virginia and beyond. And for us,
- 35:35Speaker 13: we knew, you know, as we look at our presidential
- 35:39Speaker 13: on the reees, what are great individuals to honor? No
- 35:43Speaker 13: other than the late Catherine, Kitty Dooley and Tom Haywood.
- 35:46Speaker 13: And we can't forget Tom Haywood.
- 35:48Speaker 9: Uh.
- 35:49Speaker 13: There's not a person uh in the state of West
- 35:51Speaker 13: Virginia that Tom Haywood do not know or they know him.
- 35:55Speaker 13: So Tom Haywood is an incredible individual, one that Lee's
- 35:59Speaker 13: would love with passion, as he will always say, he's
- 36:02Speaker 13: doing God's work.
- 36:04Speaker 3: So we're truly decided to honor him.
- 36:06Speaker 13: He is our Capitol campaign culchair, which he has given
- 36:10Speaker 13: incredible Tom resources and his talent to be able to
- 36:14Speaker 13: elevate strength and sustain West Virginia State University. And for
- 36:17Speaker 13: us to be able to do this, and during our
- 36:19Speaker 13: Black and Gold Gala, I think this is a tremendous
- 36:21Speaker 13: honor to bring both Tom family and Katherine Kitty Dooley's
- 36:26Speaker 13: family to the table and celebrate them in the building.
- 36:29Speaker 3: And because we are not West Virginia State without Tom
- 36:32Speaker 3: and Kitty. And that's plain except we're just not West
- 36:36Speaker 3: Virginia State.
- 36:36Speaker 13: We're not the elevated brand, We're not raising resources or
- 36:40Speaker 13: have the infrastructure if it wasn't for Tom and Kitty.
- 36:42Speaker 5: All Right, I told you we always get these texts
- 36:45Speaker 5: text day West Virginia State nineteen seventy six prepared me
- 36:48Speaker 5: for a highly successful thirty seven year educational and sales career.
- 36:52Speaker 5: Great instructors of staff, Thank you. West Virginia State University.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Never found that's wonderful, absolutely can you guys hear a
- 36:58Speaker 5: lot of stories like that, a lot of daughter states
- 37:01Speaker 5: that have gone on to incredible things, not only here
- 37:05Speaker 5: in West Virginia here in the Kenaal Valley, but all
- 37:06Speaker 5: over the country and all over the world. I know,
- 37:08Speaker 5: you guess some good stories.
- 37:09Speaker 14: Yes, you know, when we hear things like that from
- 37:12Speaker 14: our alumni, you know, we reach out to them and
- 37:15Speaker 14: talk with them. You know, some things that they would
- 37:17Speaker 14: like to do is come back and talk to with
- 37:19Speaker 14: our students. You know, they have professions that they were
- 37:22Speaker 14: very successful in and they want to come back and
- 37:23Speaker 14: share that story and help mentor our students. So there's
- 37:27Speaker 14: an opportunity for them to continue with that once we
- 37:30Speaker 14: hear those stories, and it's just a beautiful thing.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Again.
- 37:33Speaker 5: We're talking to Trey Jones, who's the vice president for
- 37:36Speaker 5: University Advancement, and also Belinda Fuller, who is Assistant vice
- 37:39Speaker 5: president and Alumni of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving at
- 37:43Speaker 5: West Virginia State University. You got this big event, this
- 37:45Speaker 5: happening next Friday night, and man, this is it's a big,
- 37:49Speaker 5: beautiful event.
- 37:51Speaker 13: Absolutely, it is a big, beautiful event. And one of
- 37:54Speaker 13: the things for us is our team does a tremendous job.
- 37:58Speaker 13: And I'll say I've been a leader of the Investment Department.
- 38:01Speaker 13: I'm always pleased and happy about the product that we produce.
- 38:05Speaker 13: But then also to seeing the collaboration across campus, being
- 38:09Speaker 13: able to see the planning committee and blend the leading
- 38:11Speaker 13: that planning committee. I'm glad of the work that we
- 38:14Speaker 13: have seen and ready for you know, April, uh, next
- 38:18Speaker 13: next Friday, April tenth. And and as a toll Blenna
- 38:20Speaker 13: a couple of days ago, once five o'clock here, Hey,
- 38:23Speaker 13: it's all game.
- 38:26Speaker 5: And this has been this is this event is one
- 38:29Speaker 5: of those uh that people really look forward to every year,
- 38:32Speaker 5: and and and and the Colosseum always looks great. The
- 38:36Speaker 5: folks with you and the Colosseum that work together to
- 38:38Speaker 5: put these things on. It's a it's always a it's
- 38:40Speaker 5: always a big night. It's like red carpet night here
- 38:41Speaker 5: in Charleston.
- 38:42Speaker 13: Absolutely, I mean, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of
- 38:45Speaker 13: alteration places. I'm sure, Tony Taylor, I'm sure there's all
- 38:48Speaker 13: of a lot of other places that get a lot
- 38:50Speaker 13: of business during this time because you know who's who,
- 38:53Speaker 13: and they try to dress the Impress and h look
- 38:55Speaker 13: at such a wonderful and delicate way at our black
- 38:58Speaker 13: and gold gala. And obviously we're just decited to celebrate.
- 39:02Speaker 13: And as I said, Ballina and her team has done
- 39:04Speaker 13: a great job and planning committee to be able to
- 39:07Speaker 13: get us to this point. And we'll obviously talk more
- 39:11Speaker 13: about what is happening at the event.
- 39:12Speaker 5: All right, So what about tickets? I mean the saying
- 39:17Speaker 5: when should people plan on getting their tickets? I mean,
- 39:19Speaker 5: I know, because they go quickly. I mean, we still
- 39:21Speaker 5: have tickets available everything, right, we do, okay, all right,
- 39:24Speaker 5: so as soon as you can, yeah, well the next
- 39:26Speaker 5: couple of days, where can people get tickets?
- 39:27Speaker 14: They can get tickets on our website. Probably the easiest
- 39:30Speaker 14: way to get there is go to the university website
- 39:32Speaker 14: and go to the gala tab. So that's wvs WVSTATEU
- 39:38Speaker 14: dot edu. You could just google West Virginia State University
- 39:41Speaker 14: and you'll get to our main page and then you
- 39:42Speaker 14: can get to our gala page through there all.
- 39:45Speaker 5: Right. Now, the event is going to be next Friday night,
- 39:47Speaker 5: starts around six o'clock and one of the things I
- 39:50Speaker 5: was reading on your website said six to ten. But
- 39:52Speaker 5: I have a feeling it's going to go a little
- 39:54Speaker 5: bit fast ten because it's a big party, right train.
- 39:56Speaker 3: Yes, is a big party.
- 39:57Speaker 13: And one of the things that we will will be
- 40:00Speaker 13: doing is is connecting our students to our sponsors. You know,
- 40:03Speaker 13: one of the more important thing for us is highlighting
- 40:06Speaker 13: our students, putting them on the platform, and our sponsors,
- 40:09Speaker 13: you know, are there to connect with our students, and
- 40:13Speaker 13: our job is to educate our students but then also
- 40:17Speaker 13: send them out to be like the alumni that just
- 40:19Speaker 13: reached out to you and have a long career and
- 40:22Speaker 13: job in the industry.
- 40:23Speaker 3: And then also to.
- 40:25Speaker 13: UH, as I said, you know, the team will do
- 40:28Speaker 13: a great job of silent auction. And then also to UH,
- 40:31Speaker 13: we will have big entertainment with Bob Thompson in the
- 40:35Speaker 13: unit bend and also to we'll have EJ to DJ
- 40:39Speaker 13: to UH get us through to night too Heavy anytime
- 40:43Speaker 13: you can have Bob Thompson somewhere, and of course dj
- 40:47Speaker 13: AJ does a great job as well.
- 40:48Speaker 5: We do a lot of events with him. Uh So,
- 40:50Speaker 5: go to the website and get you tickets and run
- 40:53Speaker 5: down to Tony the Taylor whomever who and I say
- 40:58Speaker 5: that sponsors anybody, go get get to get your outfits
- 41:03Speaker 5: all ready to go because it's gonna be a great
- 41:04Speaker 5: night at West Virginia State, you know, for West Virginia
- 41:06Speaker 5: State University, at the Coliseuman Convenment Center.
- 41:08Speaker 14: Absolutely for ship six with the cocktail reception and then
- 41:12Speaker 14: we'll move one down. We have a sound auction, We
- 41:14Speaker 14: have trips to Greece, we have golf trips at Myrtle Beach,
- 41:19Speaker 14: take us from you know, CRW. Lots of things that
- 41:22Speaker 14: you can go and bid on, so it's a fun night.
- 41:25Speaker 14: Then we have dinner, and then we're going to end
- 41:27Speaker 14: a night with a big party like you said with
- 41:29Speaker 14: dj EJ.
- 41:30Speaker 5: All Right, Trey Jones, Vice President for University Advancement at
- 41:34Speaker 5: State Blunda Fuller, Assistant vice President of Alumni Relations and

- 45:42Speaker 5: The reason that we don't have a dog, though, is
- 45:45Speaker 5: because our lives are really not very conducive to having
- 45:47Speaker 5: a dog. So we realize that's what we got cats instead,

- 47:41Speaker 5: will be here. Also Charleston may Or Amy Schuler good
- 47:43Speaker 5: when she comes in once a month to field questions
- 47:46Speaker 5: from the public. And so if you got questions, comments
- 47:48Speaker 5: and concerns like that, one Mayor Goodwin comes on the
- 47:51Speaker 5: show the first Monday of every month to address pretty
- 47:54Speaker 5: much anything you want. Also on the show, Chris Withrow
- 47:57Speaker 5: from the Benny Keatam Shrine will be here as well.
- 47:59Speaker 5: That's all coming up on Monday Show. Later today, Metro
- 48:01Speaker 5: News Midday presented by Selango Law with thirteen News and
- 48:04Speaker 5: Tonight Live anchor Amanda Baron and me lots of sports
- 48:06Speaker 5: to talk about this Easter weekend. Big win last night,
- 48:09Speaker 5: overtime win for the Mouthoneer men's team as they continue
- 48:12Speaker 5: to play for the crowd out in Vegas. So also
- 48:16Speaker 5: tomorrow afternoon, the Marshall women's team playing for the NIT
- 48:19Speaker 5: championship at home at the Camp against Illinois State University.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Daniel Woods will have it all covered on the show. Today,
- 48:28Speaker 5: Jeff Jenkins will have the news.
- 48:29Speaker 1: TJ.
- 48:29Speaker 5: Meadows will stop by with some Good Friday commentary, and
- 48:32Speaker 5: on the lunch spot we're talking peanut butter eggs for Easter.
- 48:36Speaker 5: All right, This was Amanda's idea, not that I fought
- 48:39Speaker 5: her too hard on it, to be honest with you,
- 48:41Speaker 5: During the lent and season, we have been focusing on
- 48:43Speaker 5: the lunch spots segment on fish fries. We did a
- 48:46Speaker 5: couple of restaurants, but primarily you know your nights of
- 48:48Speaker 5: Columbus organizations, other charitable groups that were doing things, churches, whatnot.
- 48:54Speaker 5: And so with this being Good Friday, headed into the
- 48:56Speaker 5: Easter weekend, Amanda got the idea, well, how about if
- 48:59Speaker 5: we talk peanut butter eggs And we found a church
- 49:02Speaker 5: right here in the Canal Valley that is churning out
- 49:06Speaker 5: some delicious peanut butter eggs. I don't know that for
- 49:09Speaker 5: a fact, but we're hoping that we little hook up
- 49:14Speaker 5: for your host here, just saying so we're going to
- 49:16Speaker 5: do that during the one o'clock hour. Also, April is
- 49:18Speaker 5: organ donor Awareness month. We'll get into that. Mark Curtis
- 49:21Speaker 5: is here with political commentary and more, and of course

- 49:44Speaker 5: every day. Well, thank you, thank you very much. We
- 49:47Speaker 5: have fun with it. Six years. It's kind of flown by,
- 49:51Speaker 5: But I don't remember the exact date. I can look
- 49:54Speaker 5: it up, but I started doing the local show here
- 49:57Speaker 5: in Charleston the day after Memorial Day and in twenty twenty.
- 50:05Speaker 5: What a time to start doing a talk show. I mean,
- 50:08Speaker 5: we were just a couple of months into COVID, Trump
- 50:11Speaker 5: and Biden, so on and so forth. But I I've
- 50:18Speaker 5: enjoyed the show, I really have, and don't plan on
- 50:20Speaker 5: going anywhere anytime soon.
- 50:21Speaker 6: Now.
- 50:21Speaker 5: The folks at WRC Media, Charles and may have different ideas,
- 50:23Speaker 5: but as far as I know, I'm still locked in here.
- 50:26Speaker 5: I enjoyed the show. I really do. And I think
- 50:28Speaker 5: one of the things that people seem to like about
- 50:31Speaker 5: the show, the ones that do like it and two
- 50:33Speaker 5: or three that do like it, is the fact that
- 50:34Speaker 5: I kind of have an open door policy here, and
- 50:37Speaker 5: I do get a lot of folks saying, well, why
- 50:39Speaker 5: do you have this person on? And you can just
- 50:41Speaker 5: fill in name here, Why do you have this part?
- 50:43Speaker 5: Why do you well, because they asked, that's the number
- 50:45Speaker 5: one reason. And I believe in free speech. And I
- 50:49Speaker 5: have guests on the program all the time that I
- 50:50Speaker 5: don't always agree with, but we have a good dialogue,
- 50:53Speaker 5: and I have folks on the air that I do
- 50:55Speaker 5: agree with from time to time.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Too.
- 50:57Speaker 5: Real quick, the problems continue for the Dimmerocratic Party in
- 51:00Speaker 5: West Virginia. Story posted this morning wv Metronews Dot com.
- 51:03Speaker 5: The Republican Party is out with the statement about their numbers,
- 51:06Speaker 5: and according to that, in February and March of this year,
- 51:10Speaker 5: the Republican Party in the state added three thy eight
- 51:12Speaker 5: hundred and forty two new voters, while the Democrat numbers
- 51:17Speaker 5: continue to decline. Also, the number of unaffiliated voters and
- 51:23Speaker 5: the others category going down as well. And I think
- 51:26Speaker 5: the reason for that is is that maybe, you know,
- 51:29Speaker 5: the Republicans close their primary, and possibly some people are
- 51:33Speaker 5: getting the message that if you are an independent that
- 51:36Speaker 5: normally votes Republican, ask for a Republican ballot, you are
- 51:40Speaker 5: not going to be able to do that in the
- 51:42Speaker 5: primary election. So for they switch parties, maybe they go back,
- 51:47Speaker 5: maybe they they don't. I have stated for the record
- 51:51Speaker 5: that I think they made a mistake, but that's just me. TJ.
- 51:54Speaker 5: Meadows is here, Hey doing my friend made a big mistake. Yeah, okay,
- 51:57Speaker 5: big mistake. It'll come back to Hanam, maybe not this election.
- 52:00Speaker 10: I think it'll eventually come back, because you're not seeing
- 52:03Speaker 10: the independent roles drop. Actually they did, but not by much,
- 52:07Speaker 10: not by much, by not by much. And I don't
- 52:09Speaker 10: think people will give it up. I think maybe some
- 52:10Speaker 10: people they go over the vote in the primary, come back,
- 52:13Speaker 10: I don't know.
- 52:14Speaker 5: We'll see who knows all right. Meadows and Wilson coming
- 52:17Speaker 5: up with talk Line at ten oh six, including the
- 52:19Speaker 5: always popular Steam release at eleven thirty. I'll be back
- 52:22Speaker 5: later today with Metro News midday with thirteen News in
- 52:24Speaker 5: Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron coming up at noon today.
- 52:28Speaker 5: Till then, have fun and love somebody.
