- 2:43topics. Before we dive in, have you ever
- 2:46seen Breaking Bad? I know it may be like 15 years
- 2:48later. On this yes of.
- 2:49Course. One of the best pieces of
- 2:53television ever. Yeah, I I'm rewatching it now
- 2:56with my girlfriend for the first time.
- 2:58What a show. Like she's loving it, right?
- 3:00So good. She loves it.
- 3:01She absolutely loves it. I like it's so good for diving
- 3:04into it. Like, wow, I'm in podcast mode.
- 3:07Before we were diving before we started watching it.
- 3:13Like she wanted to watch it in theory, but we just never got
- 3:15around to it. Anyway, at one point I was like,
- 3:17I mean, let's just do this, let's watch.
- 3:19And she's like, all right, so we started watching and we're just
- 3:22completely hooked right now. It's so good, so good.
- 3:25And it's just like, it's just as good as I remember it.
- 3:28It's only five seasons. Like the like the writers really
- 3:31wanted to make it quality. They want to make it drag it on
- 3:34and let the quality go down like we see with a lot of television
- 3:37shows and honestly just peak all the way through the casting
- 3:41perfect. They, I actually saw polls
- 3:43recently that said like they cast the people that were like,
- 3:45quote, UN quote, like nobody's like obviously Bryan Cranston is
- 3:48a huge actor, but. Well, he was on Malcolm in the
- 3:52Middle, yeah. Or like not he wasn't Leonardo
- 3:56DiCaprio type thing. No exactly.
- 3:58He also did mostly comedy like this was his first kind of like
- 4:01serious role and every other actor has prominent in this
- 4:03series is not like an actor known for anything else besides
- 4:06Breaking Bad, right? Like this was their big break
- 4:08and they said that they did that to make the show, like, more
- 4:10relatable and like more down to earth.
- 4:12Think it worked really well. And honestly, it's just it's a
- 4:16fantastic. If you haven't already seen it,
- 4:17no spoilers here, but go watch it.
- 4:19You'll thank us later and we can talk about Jesse and yeah.
- 4:24And a non podcast related thing that we can ask you guys to
- 4:27comment, what do you like more, Better Call Saul or Breaking
- 4:29Bad? And I've never seen Better Call
- 4:30Saul. Saul either.
- 4:32I feel like I do not want to admit that on live TV even.
- 4:35Though people tell us they love Better Call Saul, I think that
- 4:39we'll probably even watch it regardless after because you
- 4:42have to do this and I just want the last thing before we start.
- 4:46Literally as we were talking about this she just she just
- 4:49texted me. Wish we could be watching
- 4:50Breaking Bad right now. I love it alright.
- 4:56If you could recommend one show to the viewers though, before we
- 4:58get into it, like you're golden ticket, like everybody's gotta
- 5:01watch this one show. It could be mainstream even, and
- 5:03it doesn't matter. Oof.
- 5:06I mean, like, I'm trying to be kind of cool and original on
- 5:10this one. Yeah.
- 5:12I don't know. Do you have one that just comes
- 5:14to mind, like, right away? I mean, the movie would be
- 5:16Miracle on Ice, the Disney version, so let's just get that
- 5:19out of the way. At the recommend one piece of TV
- 5:23I'm in. Breaking Bad is up there,
- 5:25honestly, for sure. To me, I feel like everybody
- 5:27would love Ted Lasso, feel everybody would love to hear
- 5:30like. I've never seen the bear but Ted
- 5:33losses. You gotta watch the bears.
- 5:34So good I. Will I'll watch the bear I'm.
- 5:36Trying to think of something longer like older but off the
- 5:39top off the top of the Dome. I asked the question even have
- 5:41my answer already. But if you have a recommendation
- 5:45let us know the discord. Let us know the YouTube
- 5:46comments. I'm honestly looking for new
- 5:49shows to start itself. Something I haven't seen, a lot
- 5:51of TV that I have not seen so. I'm going to think about it as
- 5:54the episode goes on and hopefully by the end of it, I
- 5:56could you call me out if I can't come up with one and then I'll
- 5:59yeah, I'll, I'll, I'll try. All right, so without further
- 6:02ado, our hot topics. Let's start off with the goalie
- 6:07of the Minnesota Wild, who I just dropped.
- 6:10But is he still worth holding? We're talking about yes, Spur
- 6:13Wolstat. All right, I I'll just start us
- 6:18off here because to be honest, I we're in a deep league and I
- 6:21still dropped them and I'm fully aware that he may go on an
- 6:25absolute tear again. To be fair, they've been dealing
- 6:29with some injuries recently, but he's been clearly beaten out, at
- 6:32least as far as quality goes by Phillip Gustafson for like the
- 6:36past month. But it's still in his arsenal
- 6:39that he can beat top tier teams. And it was really scary to draw
- 6:44them, especially because I'm definitely not loaded up with
- 6:45the goalie decision. Like I got Brandon Bussey and
- 6:48Stuart Skinner and I dropped the Walstead.
- 6:50So we'll see how that goes. But to me I think he is drawable
- 6:56in most leagues. If you're in like a 10 or 8 man
- 6:59league, for sure once you get into 12.
- 7:01Depends on how valuable goalies are, but for us I felt it was
- 7:04the right thing to do. It's so tough, right, because
- 7:07this is a guy that like was impeccable when he started
- 7:10getting more playing time and we said like, obviously on this
- 7:14show we said sell high, sell high, sell high.
- 7:16Like he had four shutouts in six games.
- 7:17It was ridiculous. Both him and Gus were going
- 7:19back-to-back with shouts, shouts.
- 7:21It was like who can play even better?
- 7:24And we knew Gus was the guy. I think we kind of said that
- 7:28unless he completely fell off, which was hasn't happened.
- 7:31He he got paid. He was the main starter whilst
- 7:34it is the future obviously, but maybe the future is now, right?
- 7:37Really doesn't look like it. Do I think that Walstead still
- 7:41has good quality in him? Absolutely I do.
- 7:43Do I think Minnesota still one of the best teams?
- 7:45Absolutely I do. This rough stretch is rough
- 7:48though, and especially if he's getting potentially only one
- 7:50star on any given week and there's guys on waivers like,
- 7:53you know, Stuart Skinner or some leaks have Tristan Jarry on
- 7:55waivers that you know are going to get the quality, like the
- 7:58quantity is starts even if the quality might not be there.
- 8:01I'm taking those guys over Walstead right now any day,
- 8:03right? But then you think about it long
- 8:05term, like who do I want on my team, the playoffs if I foresee
- 8:08you all said bouncing back? It's a tough conversation
- 8:11because maybe he gets one game or two games during the week,
- 8:15but they're like, you know, 9 twelves and they're winning so.
- 8:18Yeah. It's tough.
- 8:20I don't. I don't fault you for dropping
- 8:21walls at all. I think in a lot of leagues he's
- 8:23droppable right now and you have decisions to make in a really
- 8:25deep goalie league. It's it's hard to drop him when
- 8:29you know that he's on such a good team.
- 8:30And what he did earlier this season, like somebody asked me
- 8:33Walstead or Saros rest of season and I was leaning Walstead.
- 8:37Interesting. Yeah, because I don't really
- 8:39believe in Nashville. But you know what?
- 8:40Sarah is getting so many games and he's still playing like,
- 8:43well, right now. But do I expect it to last?
- 8:46No. But the quantity might just be
- 8:48so much more than you know what was getting that makes it
- 8:52valuable unless you're only counting like wins, you know,
- 8:54save percentage goes against the average thing in the long term.
- 8:58One startup Wall said should be able to make up for the
- 9:00difference in quantity. But it's it's bad.
- 9:02Like if you're walking owner like I, it's really difficult.
- 9:05I don't fault you for dropping. Like if you're asking for
- 9:07permission, I'm giving you permission.
- 9:09Jake is also giving you permission.
- 9:11He took his own advice. He did it, just have to
- 9:14reevaluate expectations that this is also just a reminder of
- 9:16why it's so important to, you know, take advantage of the cell
- 9:18highs when you can because it feels so good in the moment, but
- 9:21the falloff feels so bad after it happens.
- 9:25Yeah. And like, I tried to sell.
- 9:28I did. But did you like not hard enough
- 9:33hard enough? I mean, like it just cuz what
- 9:36was happening is that it still looked like a tandem and that he
- 9:38was just getting ridiculous numbers.
- 9:39So it did scream unsustainable to be honest.
- 9:41But I felt like dropping him was OK because I don't think that
- 9:44that many people are looking to pick him up right now.
- 9:47It's a really hard thing. That's another reason why I
- 9:49think it's OK to draw up. And honestly, I do believe in
- 9:54Minnesota, especially with the body injury, things are a little
- 9:57bit more murky than they were beforehand, right?
- 10:00I mean. Exact as well.
- 10:01Yeah, like it's a tough situation for them right now,
- 10:06but they should bounce back by the end of the year and
- 10:09definitely keep an eye on how things are going because if they
- 10:12could still do the back-to-back, I mean, Wall State could turn it
- 10:15around at any time. But for now, it's OK to drop.
- 10:19That's where I'm at. Goalies are always so elite
- 10:21dependent because the position itself fluctuates so often.
- 10:25Like if she's like, you know, Monday could be this and then
- 10:29Wednesday it could be a completely different scenario
- 10:32because of, you know, somebody get to start, they weren't
- 10:34supposed to or they get a shout when they weren't supposed to
- 10:36and the whole situation is flipped.
- 10:38So we're trying to keep a pulse on everything.
- 10:40And right now the pulse on Wall Street is bad.
- 10:42I'm not it's not a must drop in my opinion, because I do think
- 10:45in the future, like there's quality there, but also like
- 10:48it's just hard to hold. Again, when you once started is
- 10:50not even a good one. So I don't fault you guys if you
- 10:52have good options on waivers. Yeah, all right.
- 10:55Speaking of let's go to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
- 11:00Yeah honestly, it's kind of like that's that's me with walls net.
- 11:04So I kinda I totally get where you're coming from here of the
- 11:08Columbus Blue Jackets. We're gonna talk about both here
- 11:10we got jet grieves. Nothing beats objectives holiday
- 11:14unless it's Elvis MERS Lykins, the other goalie on that team.
- 11:18So I I'll I'll just give my little profound Che here where I
- 11:24think that it's obviously looking concerning, but keep in
- 11:27mind it's a small sample size for Grieves, so try not to be
- 11:31too upset about it. That being said, I mean, I can't
- 11:35just jump out of here and say that Elvis is the guy to own
- 11:38100% now, but definitely looking more like that than it was.
- 11:43So look at how the own discrepancy is right.
- 11:46Grieves is own in 60% of Yahoo leagues.
- 11:49All of this is owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues, which is crazy.
- 11:54So you'll I would say the first thing just right off the bat in
- 11:57a deep enough league, definitely pick up Elvis, but also I would
- 12:02not necessarily be dropping grieves.
- 12:04Where are you? Where are you on this?
- 12:06Well, this hits home right? Because I have two goalies on my
- 12:09roster. We plan a deep goalie league
- 12:11where there's no clear starters available on waivers.
- 12:14MY2 goalies are Jet, Greaves and Asker of.
- 12:18So first of all, week 15, I got two starts combined out of two
- 12:22of them. I didn't even hit my goalie
- 12:23minimum. I had to make a pick up just to
- 12:25get one goalie start just to hit the minimum starts because the
- 12:29coaching change really changed things for for Greece and he was
- 12:33not playing bad. He's been one of the best
- 12:35goalies in terms of like goals saved above expected this year.
- 12:39And you look at the other goalies on this list, and it's
- 12:40studs. And on the ice, he's actually
- 12:43been very solid, too. Like, yeah, like, it's not just
- 12:45a glazing Buxted. Like, Columbus has not been
- 12:47winning as many games as they should lead to the coach getting
- 12:50fired. Was that on the goalie?
- 12:51You absolutely was not on the goalie.
- 12:53No matter how many third period chokes they've had it.
- 12:56He's been playing very solid. It was the team in front of him.
- 12:58Right now, this coaching change has brought new life to
- 13:00Columbus. We're all happy about it.
- 13:02And yet it's Elvis, who did not start for, like, 14 straight
- 13:06games, who's been getting all the start since his back.
- 13:09So what that tells me, first of all, is just give should have
- 13:13been playing 14 games straight first of all, right?
- 13:16Like it should have been more of a split.
- 13:17I was foreshadowing more of like a 60 to 4070 thirty type of
- 13:20vibe. But the new coach is giving life
- 13:24to all the guys that were really upset under under evison.
- 13:26Like Mrs. Lykins has been getting all the stars.
- 13:28Ken Johnson playing 20 minutes a night.
- 13:29He was like getting 4th 4th line minutes so I'm concerned.
- 13:34As a Jet Graves owner, I I've done this before.
- 13:37I had Elvis and then I got screwed because Jake groups took
- 13:40over when I had Elvis on my roster.
- 13:42Now was the opposite. I'm not dropping Jet Greaves
- 13:45right now. I wouldn't either.
- 13:47I'm not dropping Jet Greaves, but I'm definitely concerned.
- 13:49I think it could play out into a 5050 split eventually.
- 13:52That's what they were doing for the yeah, whole season to start.
- 13:56I also think that there's always a chance that Elvis gets traded.
- 13:58And maybe that's why they're, you know, playing him more.
- 14:01But it's also like super correlated with the new coach,
- 14:03right? New coach came in, Elvis gets
- 14:04all the starts. Old coach hated Elvis.
- 14:06So I think you monitor this. I think next week we'll have a
- 14:09lot more data and if Elvis gets two out of three games this this
- 14:14week, I'm going to start being like, alright, you know, just
- 14:17gives what I played one out of lost seven games.
- 14:20It's not looking good. And then you might have to
- 14:23consider making the swap. But as of right now, as a
- 14:26Grieves owner, I'm not, I'm not thrilled, but I'm not cutting
- 14:29just yet. So I'm still holding but I'm I'm
- 14:32not happy about it. It's different.
- 14:34It's a different situation for bonus on Columbus as a coach
- 14:39versus on Dallas or Winnipeg. Because he had Jake Aldinger,
- 14:44sure thing #1 and he had Connor Hellebuyck, the surest thing of
- 14:48#1 except for this one, which is kind of weird.
- 14:50But anyways. I'm just so confused because
- 14:52when you look at the situation has been playing well, like you
- 14:54look at it's not like he was sucking and then the coach got
- 14:57changed like so the coach must have given it back to the vet
- 15:01quote UN quote and like is your attempt to shine.
- 15:03You haven't played in a while. Let's see what you can do here.
- 15:05They're winning games, so he's keeping it rolling.
- 15:08If Elvis gets shelled in one of these games, they'll probably go
- 15:11back to grieves and then see what happens there.
- 15:13But right now it's just hard to get a pulse on without being,
- 15:17you know, in the bedroom when with bonus SO and knowing his
- 15:21insider thoughts, you know you have a personal relationship
- 15:25with the guy. Talking to him.
- 15:26And obviously only people in this bedroom and personal
- 15:28relationships with him so. Alright, OK, let's move on to
- 15:35the next one. It's kind of a similar vibe over
- 15:38here. We got the Seattle cracking
- 15:40goalie situation, primarily Joey Decord.
- 15:42He's only started one of their last four games last week.
- 15:47So is Grubauer the starter now? I mean, to me, I still think
- 15:53it's records net. I kind of want to try to compare
- 15:56these situations where I would say, you know, Mrs. Lakins is
- 16:00Grubauer and Grieves is decored. I feel like that's kind of the
- 16:04parallel that they're being supplanted by the veteran
- 16:06starter, except with Columbus, it's a new coach.
- 16:10So I'd be more worried. No, not trying to not trying to
- 16:15ruffle your feathers over here. And I guess we're splitting
- 16:18feathers and. Split them.
- 16:23But honestly, I think, I think to me, I I'm pretty sound as the
- 16:29chord being started moving forward.
- 16:31But we'll see how it goes because Merkins is Mercedes.
- 16:36I think it's kind of a better goalie than Grubauer is, so.
- 16:40Yeah, I mean, and Josh is a joy, the core owner, so I wish she
- 16:44was here to give his take. But I I'd be way more nervous as
- 16:47a jet greener than enjoyed the coroner like Grubauer and Decor
- 16:51were splitting basically 5050 and then Odd came to
- 16:54back-to-back and they gave group our back-to-back starts for the
- 16:58first half of the back-to-back. So then the cord got the next
- 17:01one and then they went back to splitting 5050.
- 17:02So then he ended up playing only one out of four games, but in
- 17:05the middle there was a back-to-back that got inverted
- 17:07basically. And what that means is group
- 17:11hours later is the last four. And if you look in the group
- 17:13hour chat where if you listen to recent episodes, I'm in the
- 17:16group hour chat, if you Scroll down, you see Kevin.
- 17:18And from a few days ago, that was me trying to convince people
- 17:20to group as a cell high or not worth rostering compared to the
- 17:24other guys were being mentioned. And I still feel the same way.
- 17:26I think this is kind of like a red flag and do not buy into the
- 17:30hype of Phillip Grubauer. Yes, he could be good, but at
- 17:34best this is a 5050 and at worst I think Joey Decord gets the
- 17:38edge. I'm talking from the perspective
- 17:40of from Jacquard so. Yeah, I think it's gonna.
- 17:44Is it Accords not. Yeah, I'm not reading into this
- 17:46much. And as soon as we start to see
- 17:48group our falter, I think they'll just start giving more
- 17:50starts to decorate if he's playing well, which she has been
- 17:53playing well and group hours starting to falter.
- 17:55So as we speak, you might be listening to this and of course,
- 17:57maybe started two in a row and you're like, OK, it's last
- 18:00week's news or something, but I'm not worried As the card
- 18:03owner, you're just gotta hang Pat.
- 18:05But the realistic situation right now is they might be
- 18:07splitting 5050. Do I think group hours an
- 18:09immense option rest of season? No.
- 18:11Seattle been so hot right now. This is not going to last.
- 18:14So you stream him and that's pretty much it.
- 18:16Like I'm not putting that much stock into Group Power.
- 18:19I'd rather have Elvis than Group Power if you gave me the choice.
- 18:22Same that's what I'm saying. Like though I mean putting it
- 18:26aside, like I feel like Elvis is more of a threat to grieves than
- 18:30group hours decored. Absolutely.
- 18:33But yeah, the situations are different.
- 18:35Like Columbus had a coaching change that led to 1 goalie
- 18:38getting all the starts now. So you're kind of like, that's
- 18:40way more of a, of a like a prominent information than just
- 18:45them splitting 5050 and somebody getting an extra start because
- 18:48of a back-to-back. That's where I'm at too.
- 18:51OK, sticking with more goalies on this one.
- 18:54It's very goalie heavy. Hot topic week we have of the
- 18:59New Jersey Devils. One other two Jacob derivative
- 19:03names. It's funny, they got Jacob and
- 19:06Jake and then and then the Hobbs of Jacob and Jacob.
- 19:11Yeah, it's a it's a popular names.
- 19:14Yeah, it's a popular. Yeah, the Jake derivatives are
- 19:18pretty popular around the NHL. I seemingly missed my calling
- 19:21but I love the podcast. Happier.
- 19:24You're one of the top 2 hosts in bigger management so.
- 19:29OK, the fellow Jacob Marks. Chickens allow myself to say
- 19:32that. That's very gracious.
- 19:36Jacob Markstrom of the New Jersey Devils, is he good now?
- 19:41I am not buying into much yet, but I think that the the whole
- 19:46hoopla of Jake Allen taking so many starts from him that that's
- 19:50been going on all year. So it's I guess more serious
- 19:53than hoopla has kind of, you know, I think that that's going
- 19:58to sooner than later be on the back burner is going to be
- 20:01Markstrom's net. He's their starter.
- 20:03He's supposed to be their starter.
- 20:04Alan has been an OK. Starter in the past, but
- 20:07Markstrom's really an excellent goalie.
- 20:09Went on his game. It's going to be inconsistent,
- 20:12but I still think New Jersey should be a lot better moving
- 20:14forward and Markstrom should be there guy.
- 20:16So is he good now is kind of the the headline we're trying to get
- 20:19at. I would say it's gonna be
- 20:22better, but it's definitely not gonna be fantastic percentages.
- 20:25I'm going to expect saves and wins and it'll be more
- 20:29consistent starters like he'll start more games than he has
- 20:32moving forward. I think the question is less so
- 20:35about the amount of starts he gets and more so about the
- 20:38quality of the start and how good New Jersey is crazy because
- 20:41some situations it's, you know, the goalie drives a lot of the
- 20:46value for his his self. And there's other situations
- 20:49where the goalie is perfectly correlated with the success of
- 20:52the team. It feels like if the team is at
- 20:5580%, the goalie will be at 80%. If the team is at 100 is at 100
- 20:58team at 5050. If you don't worship is one of
- 21:00those goalies. When the team is down bad, he's
- 21:02down bad. When the team is winning, he
- 21:04looks so good. And right now I think the New
- 21:08Jersey Devils, they're a hot topic in themselves.
- 21:10We could talk about them for like a million episodes if we
- 21:12could, but I do expect it is a lot of episodes.
- 21:16I'm sure the fans would love that.
- 21:17But I think the New Jersey Devils around to come up and I
- 21:20think that will correlate strongly with Markstrom's
- 21:22success. Do I think he's the best goalie
- 21:25out there right now? No, I think he's like a goalie
- 21:28that can hover around slightly over 900.
- 21:30I'd be happy with that on a goalie that should be winning
- 21:33games, right? The New Jersey Devils are a team
- 21:34that going into the season, we were like they could be a Cup
- 21:37contender. Now everything has gone wrong
- 21:38for them this season where injuries and on the ice play,
- 21:42but I think better days are ahead.
- 21:43I keep saying it, I I'm saying with conviction guys that
- 21:46they're out of a playoff spot right now, but at some point
- 21:48they will go on and run with their winning games and trying
- 21:50to make the playoffs. And I think Markstrom will be
- 21:53pretty valuable when that happens.
- 21:55So if he's on your waivers, keep an eye on him.
- 21:59I think he's like a top 20 goalie right now.
- 22:01If I'm being conservative, like between 18 and 23 is kind of
- 22:05where I see him. Um, and that's, that's where I
- 22:10have in my head the value right now.
- 22:13Yeah, because you're looking at his stats on the year and he's
- 22:15like way. Below that, it's not good.
- 22:17It's really not good. But you know, whatever happened
- 22:19and you look at, you look forward, that's kind of what you
- 22:21have to do. Yeah, I mean, I got Skinner on
- 22:25my team right now, who's who's been decent as of late.
- 22:28I'm taking marks from over him for sure.
- 22:30You know, really. Yeah.
- 22:31Yeah, I, I would say so because I feel like the ceiling is super
- 22:35high now when you get into like the John Gibson conversation,
- 22:39like I'm going Gibson there, I think.
- 22:43But you see Saros. I think I'm gonna go.
- 22:47I think I'm gonna go Markstrom. What about this one?
- 22:51I'm going to go Markstrom as well.
- 22:53I see it though, like I see where you're coming from.
- 22:55You talking about like really good goalies who could kind of
- 22:57be difference makers for their for their team versus yeah, I
- 22:59don't want to call them less good.
- 23:00Goalie awesome teams. Yeah, exactly.
- 23:03That's closer to the bottom team.
- 23:05What about Spencer Knight? Because I'm going to go Marks
- 23:08from there for sure. I feel like it's.
- 23:09The same, I'm going off the Dome.
- 23:10I'm not looking at the numbers right now, but my gut is telling
- 23:13me Markstrom, just because I think New Jersey should be able
- 23:15to win more games than Chicago rest of season.
- 23:18There's more talent. I'm more confident that they can
- 23:20go on a run. I think, you know, what we saw
- 23:22with Knight and Bedard before the Bedard injury is are they
- 23:27that we're not going to see ahead of us basically is what my
- 23:30my gut is telling me. So.
- 23:31Yeah, I guess something's gonna be good.
- 23:33But yeah, night, night was on an absolute terror.
- 23:37So yeah, I mean, to me, I think the way to put it is you're
- 23:40taking a better if you're taking a goalie on a team that's really
- 23:48good and he's a really good goalie, obviously that's like
- 23:50the best of the best. I'm taking all of those guys
- 23:52over marks like the Vasilevskiy, etc.
- 23:55And I'm also probably taking them over a good goalie on a
- 23:57less good team. That's where I'm at with it.
- 24:00It's going to be tough to name all of them.
- 24:02But yeah, low mid tier starter is what I'm expecting rest of
- 24:06the season and he's he's been like worse than some backups for
- 24:12a good chunk of what we've seen so far.
- 24:14I think it's looking up. So.
- 24:16Yeah, OK, last but not least, not gonna focus on goalies only
- 24:21here, but I think I, I think this is a good one overall.
- 24:26The Buffalo Sabres are a hot topic in and of themselves.
- 24:29I think we could spend 5 million episodes on them.
- 24:32Particularly we love the apping guys.
- 24:35We we go into these episode like alright, well keep it around an
- 24:37hour. Next thing you know talking
- 24:38about for like 2 hours or an hour and a half and it's.
- 24:41Sounds good. That's it.
- 24:42And sometimes we're like talking before and we're like let's just
- 24:45start the episode like we're talking about hockey.
- 24:47So that's it, that's it. So come out guys.
- 24:52I know there are other things too, but it's definitely.
- 24:55It's Breaking Bad the phone call.
- 25:00Yeah, so the Buffalo Sabres, I mean, it's it's interesting.
- 25:04I guess do you want to start? We could talk about the team and
- 25:07then more so the fantasy assets in particular and where we think
- 25:10they're going. So right now the Sabers are
- 25:15playing, I think way above what anyone thought coming into this
- 25:18season, right? Like it's not even close that
- 25:21they nobody thought they would be nearing a playoff position in
- 25:24the second-half of the season. And they're they're in the last
- 25:26wild card spot right now. So that's pretty cool to see.
- 25:32I've thought in years past that they actually had a good Rosser
- 25:35and are not performing. And finally I'm like, I've given
- 25:39up on them and they're like decent.
- 25:41So great timing. But look, winning record.
- 25:45They went on like a 10 game win streak not long ago.
- 25:49To me. I still don't think they're
- 25:51going to be making the playoffs. Like the Leafs are behind them
- 25:53in the standings. I expect that to change.
- 25:55Florida's behind them in the Atlantic also.
- 25:58They should be. The Atlantic is a really loaded
- 26:01division, so I think it's going to be really difficult for them
- 26:04to come near the playoffs. But will they be last again?
- 26:09I mean, I think, I don't know. I, I think that what's going to
- 26:12happen is that the fantasy players are still going to be
- 26:15good for fantasy and then the team is just going to start
- 26:18losing. That's where I see things.
- 26:20It's tough, right? Because we talk about this
- 26:22division, the Atlantic, being so wide open.
- 26:24I think right now three teams at the top.
- 26:27Ohe I'm about to sneeze. Plus morning.
- 26:31Blessing. Hopefully that didn't Pierce
- 26:36anybody's ears, but I think there's three teams at the top
- 26:40of the Atlantic that are starting to pull away.
- 26:41I think Tampa, Detroit and Montreal are showing themselves
- 26:44to be stronger teams ahead of the pack.
- 26:47Rebel, right? After this Boston, right?
- 26:48And I think Boston is one of the worst business division.
- 26:51I expect somebody to overtake them, right?
- 26:54Buffalo has been so good. I think they've won like 14 of
- 26:56the last 16 games. Maybe I'm stopped.
- 27:00I missing game 17 and 18 while you guys are listening to this.
- 27:03But they've been so fun. I feel like they've done it.
- 27:08They've done it surprisingly. If you like, this should not
- 27:11have happened. And yet it has happened.
- 27:14All the fantasy players are are, you know, delivering tape has
- 27:17been a monster. Yeah, but we did hear rumors
- 27:19earlier in the season, like Alex talked was on the trade block.
- 27:22They don't wanna pay him what he wants, like a campaign like
- 27:25deal. He's not going to get a campaign
- 27:26like deal unless he starts turning it up, but I don't think
- 27:30that's happening. UPS is on the trade block now.
- 27:33You know, Alex Line is back. Maybe something happens there,
- 27:35but he's been really solid. So the team is coming together.
- 27:38The team is having fun. We're talking, we see like
- 27:40Rasmus Dahlin be like, I have not had this much fun playing
- 27:42hockey or coming to the rink in forever.
- 27:44So that's actually something that you can see like on the
- 27:47stat sheet or whatnot. But it really does impact the
- 27:50players morale and their performances, right?
- 27:52When you're happy to go to the ice, you're happy to be playing
- 27:54hockey, you're motivated to win. So I'm actually like encouraged
- 27:59by this situation. Now, they do have injuries and
- 28:01they're dealing with that. But I do also expect them to
- 28:04slow down. I think they're gonna be in the
- 28:05mix. I think it's gonna be a tough
- 28:06battle between them. Florida, Ottawa I think is gonna
- 28:10give a run at it, so I expect them to be on the bubble.
- 28:13Maybe they missed out on the playoffs by two points like
- 28:15Columbus did last season, but I don't think they're going to be
- 28:19like the last place bottom dwellers that we've seen in the
- 28:21past. I think they're think they've
- 28:22overcome, you know, that hump, let's say.
- 28:26Yeah, over the last two weeks, they have like basically half
- 28:32their roster has averaged more than .7 points per game.
- 28:35That's like really, really solid.
- 28:37And some of these guys are. Yeah, exactly.
- 28:40I mean, you, you know, you have tagged kind of running the show.
- 28:42He's at 1.86 points per game. That's ridiculous .86 power play
- 28:47points also. So that's like truly, truly
- 28:50exceptional. Ryan McLeod, though, he kind of
- 28:53goes under the radar. Josh done.
- 28:56I mean, Norris is down injured. Mattias Samuelsson, I mean, who
- 28:59knows him besides Kevin? Like, you know, I mean, for
- 29:03fantasy, like, he's been irrelevant.
- 29:05Although IRL he's always been a decent defenseman.
- 29:07So they're getting production everywhere.
- 29:09And you know what team is a good team?
- 29:11It's just that I think that the problem is that the Atlantic is
- 29:14so loaded. The top three, you mentioned
- 29:16Lightning, Red Wings, Canadians. I think that they're they will
- 29:19make the playoffs and I wouldn't be surprised if they are the
- 29:22top. They are in the top 4, all those
- 29:26three teams. The other team I think it's
- 29:28going to be there is Florida. So there's no way to meet a
- 29:31Buffalo is gonna beat out any of these teams.
- 29:33At that point, you gotta compete with the Leafs, the Senators,
- 29:38and then I think they're better than the Bruins.
- 29:41So look, as far as fantasy goes, obviously, obviously some of
- 29:48these numbers are ridiculous. 1.86 is not sustainable.
- 29:50He's going to get down to like 1.2.
- 29:52But that's awesome. I don't think Samuelson is gonna
- 29:55continue being his fire as he's been points.
- 29:58Don't. Don't put it out of the
- 29:59question. Amazon is an owner.
- 30:01I've seen the. Future, yeah.
- 30:03So they're clearly doing good things for this team, but
- 30:05overall, I think that they're gonna finish.
- 30:09They're going to finish out of the playoff position but not
- 30:13last in the division. I mean, let's talk fantasy
- 30:16though, like all these assets you just mentioned, given how
- 30:19hot they've been, are you looking to cash in basically and
- 30:23get guys like you have? Sage is always just a great
- 30:26fantasy player, but with what he's doing right now, like you
- 30:29can potentially consider him as a sell high, right?
- 30:31Like would you flip like a Tech Thompson for like a Jason
- 30:34Robertson type of player? I feel like I would do that.
- 30:36I feel like that's something that you have to consider.
- 30:39Yeah, you're, you're saying you'd rather have Robertson
- 30:40coming back. Yeah.
- 30:42Or like, you know, you could potentially get a Jack Hughes
- 30:44right now. I would be really looking
- 30:45through that. Yeah, me too.
- 30:47I mean, you gotta aim really, really high with this one.
- 30:52And I think that both both those names I do agree.
- 30:55But then once you get like, I mean, we were talking about
- 30:59would you would you rather Tage Thompson or Drake Batherson
- 31:03tasking you this for a reason? OK, So would you rather Tage
- 31:05Thompson or William Linton? Nielander, Tage Thompson.
- 31:08OK. So you're totally confident in
- 31:12saying that? Than most people and I still do
- 31:15things that by law, he was my buy low pick for a long time
- 31:19because he just got zero points. But I've reevaluated, I guess my
- 31:23take on him. And now this new injury does
- 31:25scare me because it's a re aggravated groin injury.
- 31:27So there's always an extra piece there that I'm a low risk
- 31:31manager. Like I don't like taking two big
- 31:33swings when it's going to cost me a lot.
- 31:35Like if I could get another for cheap, I'd love to have him on
- 31:37my roster. But for a guy that I know it's
- 31:39gonna be delivering on me consistently.
- 31:40Like to me, it might be a little rich if you're more of a risky
- 31:43manager and you want to play for that upside.
- 31:45Like upside was championships. I'm all about that upside, but
- 31:48I'm also not willing to take big swings and I'm already in a good
- 31:51position, if that makes sense. How about?
- 31:54How about a Matthew to Chuck? I mean we're talking about
- 31:57Nylander and not. Sorry, age for Matthews to
- 32:02Chuck. I'd rather have Matthew could
- 32:04Chuck. That could be a fun one.
- 32:05Yeah, that could be 0 sample size I.
- 32:09Think existing back is on full force yet?
- 32:11Like you can absolutely get that done I think.
- 32:14Yeah, that could be a really fun idea.
- 32:16So I mean, there's definitely moves you can make here because
- 32:19he's playing above his pay grade, but he is obviously the
- 32:21star on this team, the other guys and then we'll move on.
- 32:24To the surrounding question. We gotta talk about them.
- 32:26Yeah, for sure. I mean, if you look at this,
- 32:29their whole team has been on fire.
- 32:30But can you sell Mattias Samuelsson?
- 32:33Probably not. No, no.
- 32:34But I'm talking about like Josh Norris, Jason Zucker, Josh Own,
- 32:37like all these guys. You can sell some of.
- 32:40Them I mean, you can try if you're in a deep leader has very
- 32:44little depth on the waiver wire. Like I think these guys have
- 32:46more pulled there, but these are not guys that have like name
- 32:48value trade pull. These are guys that you hold on
- 32:51your roster and you stream them when you can and they become
- 32:54potential holes on your team. And I think these guys will be
- 32:56valuable for the rest of the season because I think these are
- 32:59all the pieces that are part of that power play.
- 33:01One that's a pretty decent power play.
- 33:02Like it's not anything crazy, but it's one of the worst ones.
- 33:05And I really do think that these guys are gonna have, you're
- 33:07gonna see them on our waiver show week in, week out, like
- 33:09they're gonna hover between 30 and 40% and they'll be on the
- 33:13waiver show because they're just guys that are exposed to the top
- 33:16players playing top minutes. And I think these guys are
- 33:19valuable. Yeah.
- 33:22Are you trying to cash in Alex Tucker?
- 33:24I think that's like probably the.
- 33:25Best always trying to cash in Alex Tuck.
- 33:27Yeah, that's probably the best name that I wanna sell.
- 33:30Well, that that you can sell, that I want to sell.
- 33:33Like Ryan Mcleod's been on an absolute terror over the last
- 33:36year. Nobody's.
- 33:36Buying. You could sell the same with Bo
- 33:38and Byram, although he's actually a good player in his
- 33:40own right. But anyways, yeah.
- 33:42But Talk is the one that actually carries some name value
- 33:45that's been playing out of his mind recently over the last two
- 33:50weeks. That's a really good one.
- 33:52And I think you could aim somewhat respectively high.
- 33:55I mean, like, yeah, like a top top Someone Like, You know,
- 34:01hovering at like .8 points per game that should be in one point
- 34:04per. Game I would sell tuck for
- 34:05Nylander. If somebody would do that, I
- 34:07would. I would tuck plus for Nylander.
- 34:10You'd be surprised. That was it, yeah.
- 34:13I think you'd be surprised about like how little people around me
- 34:15longer because, you know, he was bad, then he got hurt, then he
- 34:19came back, was good for two games, then he got hurt again.
- 34:21So like if the other manager is struggling, we don't know when
- 34:23he's coming back. Like Tuck and a little something
- 34:26something could get it done. If you could do that absolutely,
- 34:29like cash in completely, that would be a huge, huge deal in my
- 34:34opinion. And what about, I'll name one
- 34:37more and then we'll move on. And what about Ryan Leonard?
- 34:41Would you take Ryan Leonard over Tuck Press this?
- 34:43No. I I take Tuck.
- 34:45You're taking tuck. OK, so you're not aiming?
- 34:47Too low, OK. OK, maybe at Dylan Larkin,
- 34:50actually, who's been knocking? Too high.
- 34:53OK, if you can, if you can get Larkin for Alex talk.
- 34:57That's a fleece. Yeah, well, if we're talking in
- 34:59the Neil under conversation, I mean like you got named
- 35:03something like Larkin too. What about you guys?
- 35:06I would take Matthew is for sure.
- 35:07OK, let's talk. No matter what, you know who's
- 35:10healthy on this team, Like he's barely gets power play one.
- 35:13I'm treating him for a guy that's going to be on power play
- 35:15one that can get consistent production.
- 35:17Like you could maybe get a drink, Batherson.
- 35:19Like we just talked about Drake Batherson.
- 35:21Like Drake Batherson is not necessarily by low, but Alex
- 35:24Stuck is definitely still high. So yeah.
- 35:28Cool. Alright, let's move on to our
- 35:32mailbag questions. I just want to quickly say How I
- 35:36Met Your Mother great show. Yeah, I think that's one of
- 35:39those. Like I gotta recommend that to
- 35:40anybody who hasn't seen it. I don't know, this may be
- 35:44controversial. I would take How I Met Your
- 35:46Mother over friends any day. I really hope my girlfriends not
- 35:48listening to this. She will be mad at me, but she
- 35:51also loves How I Met Your Mother.
- 35:52But like, I know friends fans are diehard friends.
- 35:55I just think How I Met Your Mother mothers definitely
- 35:57funnier. Yeah.
- 35:59What do you? Think it's funny because that
- 36:00you mentioned that I actually watched the 1st 2 episodes of
- 36:04How I Met Your Mother recently with a with Helen, my girlfriend
- 36:07because she's never seen it. So I'm like this is I wanted to
- 36:11see first of all, if it holds up because I've done watches over
- 36:13the years but it hasn't been for a few years.
- 36:15I think how much your mother always holds up, although it can
- 36:18be maybe a little cringe depending on how you feel about
- 36:20like Ted Mosby. But I still think it's a great
- 36:23show. I laugh a lot.
- 36:24So it's just so hard watching a show that has like, a laugh
- 36:27track now, just like the only thing I can hear when I watch
- 36:29these old sitcoms. I'm like the laugh track, laugh
- 36:32track. It's always there.
- 36:33Yeah. So that's what The Office is so
- 36:35good. Modern Family too, right?
- 36:37Yeah, Modern Family is exceptional.
- 36:39Great. Modern Family is amazing.
- 36:41So I would say I would say Modern Family, How I Met your
- 36:44mother. Those are my 2 recommendations.
- 36:46OK, OK, the mail bag. Let's begin.
- 36:51But these are fun. Yeah, not too many.
- 36:53We got Kit Kat through. Yeah, Kit Kat Crew three.
- 36:57That's a tongue twister. Exactly.
- 36:59Yeah, if I want to try, I wanna see Kit Kat through three.
- 37:04Kit Kat crew tree. Ohhhhh.
- 37:06Yeah, that's not telling you. That's interesting.
- 37:09Fast Kit Kat crew 3. Kit Kat Crew 3 Jake's.
- 37:14Eyes twitching right now and actually trying to say.
- 37:16That I, I think, I think I malfunctioned while I was uh,
- 37:20yeah. RK Kate Cat Crew 3 on Discord
- 37:22asked what are your thoughts on Cadre's value rest of season
- 37:24with a potential trade coming? I think with the Anderson move,
- 37:28it's way certain that Kadri is gonna be on the move.
- 37:32So yeah, I mean, that's definitely fair to just say that
- 37:35a trade will happen. So I mean, look like this
- 37:41country is the type of player to me.
- 37:43We were talking about Trocheck and Panarin on our recent news
- 37:47in Would You Rather episodes as guys who have succeeded
- 37:50everywhere they've gone, and that's for IRL and fantasy.
- 37:55Nice, nice hoodie over there. So to me, the way I see this is
- 38:00that Kadri's value where he goes this season is not really gonna
- 38:06be that destination dependent because I think no matter where
- 38:10he is, he's gonna go down in value.
- 38:13And that's kind of that kind of sucks to be honest.
- 38:16And then? Right now, don't know if you've
- 38:19seen what charger has been doing recently, but it's it's $8 and
- 38:22dollar sign. Yeah, let's check it out because
- 38:24he went on a tear somewhat recently.
- 38:26He was. Offered to buy him, then he
- 38:28went. He popped off for like a month
- 38:30and he's been awful. Like people are asking if they
- 38:33can drop Nazem Kadri and if you're an attention you probably
- 38:35can. If you're in a lot of 12 team
- 38:37leagues, it's it's tough depending on who's available on
- 38:39waivers. My take is that we said this
- 38:41earlier that his situation can't get better than Calgary because
- 38:46on Calgary there's nobody else takes shots.
- 38:47That's why Nazim Kari shot volume is always so high.
- 38:50He's on the he has the best deployment there.
- 38:53And if he gets traded, the odds are is deployments going to get
- 38:55worse. Right?
- 38:56Like Athena wants him, is gonna want him for to be the two seat.
- 38:59That means not necessarily power play one and second line
- 39:02deployment. He's definitely not gonna be
- 39:04taking as many shots in my opinion because there's probably
- 39:06going to be better talent around him that should be taking shots.
- 39:10But now he's been so bad that you're like maybe a change of
- 39:13scenery and is like an influx and potential improvement.
- 39:18And that's kind of where I'm at. I don't think a trade is gonna
- 39:21happen until we get closer to the trade deadline unless things
- 39:24heat up. We'll talk about it on the
- 39:26podcast. If that happens.
- 39:27As of right now is like pretty quiet.
- 39:28The fact that Calgary made a move right now maybe means that
- 39:31they're going to be open to selling in the very near future
- 39:34instead of waiting till the three deadline.
- 39:36But I'm looking forward to seeing where he ends up going.
- 39:40I think it's, I think his value resets when he gets traded.
- 39:44It might be worse, but he's not really doing much with the
- 39:47deployment right now. Like the power play is not
- 39:49anything special or one of the worst power plays in the league.
- 39:52So you might be going to a better power play and get more
- 39:55opportunities. I welcome the trade.
- 39:58I think there's some destinations that could really
- 40:00work out for him. Yeah, so let me explain what
- 40:02happened when I tried to pronounce Kate Cat Crew Three.
- 40:04I think my my entire system rebooted and I didn't realize
- 40:07how bad Godric's been in the recent past.
- 40:10This is abysmal. So compared to what you've seen
- 40:14like over the last month, wherever he goes, he's gonna
- 40:17average more than .15 points per game.
- 40:19Is so bad, guys. That's.
- 40:21Awful. So yeah.
- 40:23So yeah. So I'd like to.
- 40:25OK, I did it again, so I'd like to.
- 40:29Though maybe that's. The first one was wild, so I'd
- 40:32like to rewind on what I said at the beginning, but realistically
- 40:37it's what you did last year. Let's say I was like a benchmark
- 40:41for how good could be or you know, when you went on an
- 40:44absolute terror when you played for the Avalanche a few years
- 40:46ago. I don't think anywhere near
- 40:49anything like that is happening. So it's going to get better than
- 40:52it has been. But I, I feel like I don't want
- 40:56to own him right now. I don't wanna trade for him.
- 40:58And if I have him, like I don't know how high you can aim
- 41:02because of how horrible it's been.
- 41:03So it feels like you're kind of just stuck.
- 41:04No, you're stuck. You can't bother you, but it's
- 41:06either you cut or you hold and. Deep enough I don't think you
- 41:10get cuz this shots are decent. In the hours you can't cut, but
- 41:15in the league that's like 12 team standard that a lot of the
- 41:18waiver guys you mentioned are pretty hot and he's the worst
- 41:21player. There's a world where you just
- 41:23cut him to be honest and you move on like Fedora fares
- 41:26available like you maintenance, no brainer right?
- 41:28It'll Fantilli is available. You do that into no-brainer.
- 41:31So, um, I think you have to definitely know you're leaking.
- 41:35It's about like, how deep is your waiver wire?
- 41:36If there's good options, I'd be willing to make a swap, but I'm
- 41:40also trying to hold to see what happens with the trade.
- 41:42Why are you smiling so much? Is the next question.
- 41:45OK. All right, let's get the next
- 41:47question. All right.
- 41:50Bordering on Discord has what's more likely, Jakey saving 2 out
- 41:55of 10 McDavid penalty shots or Jakey scoring 5 on 10 on McDavid
- 42:00in Nets. Little fache if there's context
- 42:05to this, if you haven't listened to the bonus episode that we
- 42:08released, I think it was like 2 weeks ago if you Scroll down, it
- 42:10was like the only one that's not doesn't start like week 15 or
- 42:13whatever. Like we record bonus episode.
- 42:15It was full of laughs. If you haven't listened and you
- 42:17need extra content, go listen to that.
- 42:19But Jake was so confident that he would be able to stop.
- 42:22Jake used to play ice hockey at a pretty high level, I will say,
- 42:25and used to be a goalie and he was convinced that he could save
- 42:282 out of 10 McDavid penalty shots.
- 42:31Now, Josh and I clearly, obviously have brain in our
- 42:34heads and said that that's impossible and that he's too
- 42:37confident. But we admired the confidence,
- 42:40obviously. But that's just crazy, Jake.
- 42:42You have way more odds of scoring 5 out of 10 and McDavid
- 42:45and Nets than saving Mcdavid's penalty shot and you cannot
- 42:49convince me otherwise. 100% that's not true.
- 42:53It stopped. Now you're just committing to
- 42:54the bit. OK, so let me ask you something.
- 42:59Someone used to play soccer. OK, Could you?
- 43:02Could you? And you played like kind of all
- 43:06over the field, but you were not.
- 43:08A goalie penalty shots are way different than hockey penalty
- 43:10shots. Yeah.
- 43:11So, so just just to say you playing the position you played,
- 43:15which was someone who kicked the ball, not a goalie, could you
- 43:17score more on? I don't know.
- 43:21I wanna see big bullies, I wanna say.
- 43:23Better check. He's like the only guy coming to
- 43:25my mind right now. Better check.
- 43:27But yes, better check. Sorry, cause he actually plays
- 43:29hockey now too, did you know that?
- 43:31I think that like he was like the cheque or something.
- 43:36Yeah, that's it. So, OK, so Tibo Courtois, do you
- 43:42think you could score more on Taboo?
- 43:45Gave more of his shots. Which was not one of the best
- 43:47goals in the world anymore. But yes, I could definitely
- 43:50score more than I can say because I can't save anything.
- 43:52I've never played goalie play. Being a soccer goalie is like a
- 43:55whole different thing than being a hockey goalie.
- 43:57Like, and also the penalty shots are way different.
- 43:59It's just one take. A lot of, you know, you have to
- 44:02pick the right side. There's a lot more luck in
- 44:03there, whereas hockey is more reactive.
- 44:06So I mean, maybe you just don't believe in your hockey skills as
- 44:09a player at all, but I feel like you always wanted to be a
- 44:11player, right? So I like playing games.
- 44:14Never played goalie either. So basically the way I think
- 44:20that you should look at this is that I won't spend too much time
- 44:24on it, but basically if a player is playing against an NHL goalie
- 44:30who I concede is better than me right now, as we said, all the
- 44:34Jakes playing in the NHL, but I've committed to being a
- 44:37podcaster. So if you're going up against an
- 44:42NHL goalie, you're at like a good shooting percentage and
- 44:46penalty, but if you have a 30%, meaning you're lucky if you
- 44:49score 3 on 10. OK, so I was saying that in my
- 44:55prime where I've played against professional players who took
- 44:58like penalty shots on me, Jake, why was able to score?
- 45:03I was able to score. I was able to save like let's
- 45:07say 7 on 10. There's no way you're receiving
- 45:117:00 on. Yeah, it's not as crazy as you
- 45:13think. If you thought you were like,
- 45:15alright, the number 7, that's somebody I save.
- 45:17It's not like it's like a whole thing when you're facing off
- 45:20against the player anyway. There's simply no way that I
- 45:23could truly make a compelling point, and I hope that this is
- 45:26entertaining for all our listeners on Jodari especially,
- 45:30who asked the question but one. That you're nuts.
- 45:33No, at the end of the day, it's like it's not.
- 45:36It's not easy for a player score on a penalty shot against a
- 45:41somewhat experienced goalie like Scott Foster or David Arias.
- 45:45Like the guys who like came up to play like from the Zamboni,
- 45:48you know what I mean? Like how much do you think
- 45:51McDavid would score on them? These are not NHL goalies.
- 45:54You think he would score 10 on 10 penalty shots against Yes No.
- 45:59If he doesn't because he missed the net.
- 46:01That's it. They could miss the net on me
- 46:03that counts as my as my saving that counts that.
- 46:08Counts like gonna stand there and hope that he misses.
- 46:10Well, even in an NHL game, if a player, he gives a penalty.
- 46:14First of all, if a player. Has a penalty shot big David,
- 46:17it's not like that or something, you know he's taking a penalty
- 46:22shot on you. I'm just saying that it's it's
- 46:26not as crazy as you think. So just saying he could miss the
- 46:30net and it still counts. Shepard Commander on Discord
- 46:32asked. Do you have any advice on how to
- 46:34handle the wild two week long week 18 with the Olympic break
- 46:40in the middle? Wow, I have the perfect advice
- 46:43for you in a situation like this where you have to do is you have
- 46:47to keep your ads for the second-half of the week because
- 46:50not only are there injury possibilities at the Olympics,
- 46:54but you also want the most information when you're reacting
- 46:57to how the week is going. So when you make early game,
- 47:00early week moves, it's mostly because you want to stack the
- 47:03games played. You want to pick up guys that
- 47:05have early game early week schedule so you can get those
- 47:08games banked in and then have more information to see how you
- 47:10can react in the second-half of the week with the Olympic break
- 47:13is such a big factor that I want to keep all my ads to react to
- 47:18the situation. What if one of the guys that
- 47:21went to what if I use two ads in the in early in the week on
- 47:24Monday because I want to stack those games and then I get 2
- 47:27injuries at the Olympics and I only have one ad to replace
- 47:30those guys. I'm gonna be in a tight
- 47:32situation. So it may not be the best for
- 47:35potentially winning week 18 specifically.
- 47:38You might not get the most volume out of your ads, but I
- 47:41think the smart thing to do is keep them.
- 47:43Maybe use one early week and keep If you have three ads, use
- 47:46one early week. Keep 2 for the second-half of
- 47:48the week after the Olympic break or nearing there.
- 47:51Or just keep most of them ever after that.
- 47:53That's what I would do. I think is best practice because
- 47:55first of all, you can have your playing with more information
- 47:58and there's a big event happening.
- 48:00So a lot of things can happen. People could get, you know,
- 48:03maybe we have more trade rumors, maybe somebody gets hurt,
- 48:06situations change. You wanna be able to react to
- 48:09those events. Yeah, so I like it.
- 48:12The only thing I'll add to that is if there is an event like
- 48:15Heaven saying like someone gets injured and you know, that
- 48:17there's a direct replacement for him on their NHL team.
- 48:22You know, like let's say like someone's like a shoe in for
- 48:24power play one. If this person gets injured,
- 48:27then that's like a really good opportunity to pick someone up.
- 48:30So it's really important to, as much as you can, hold and wait
- 48:34till the second-half of that week.
- 48:36But don't be shy to react to the news, especially if you think it
- 48:41can help you moving forward, like beyond the week you're
- 48:44currently playing. So Yep.
- 48:47And, and the week before. Try to, if you can, hold some
- 48:52ads for the end of that week so that going into week 18 you're
- 48:56able to use them. You know what I mean?
- 48:59Yeah, I would say Week 17 maybe make maybe make moves that are a
- 49:04little more Week 18 oriented. So that's why maybe the
- 49:06advantages of like the early week games in Week 18 while
- 49:10having to use your Week 18 ads. Yes, all right.
- 49:13Ninja Bob Dog on Discord asked what social circles were you
- 49:17part of in high school? Jocks and nerds?
- 49:20Artsy fartsy orders. I can't say the next one or
- 49:24normies. What's floaters?
- 49:26I don't know floaters. First of all, what was Josh now?
- 49:31I did not know Josh during his high school years.
- 49:35Didn't know. Actually, I did not know him
- 49:38during high school, but he's kind of, like, described himself
- 49:41as sort of a bookworm who also played sports.
- 49:46Yeah. So like, I remember like one
- 49:48time, like he was just telling me about like, I think he was
- 49:52like, I don't know. He was just like saying like a
- 49:55scenario. And he was like, but I didn't
- 49:57even realize. I was just like reading up my
- 49:58desk. Yeah, I heard something, you
- 50:00know. So Josh, I would say, yeah, I
- 50:04wouldn't say nerd, I wouldn't say jock, but it's kind of like
- 50:08he had like a little bit of both in a way, you know what I mean?
- 50:12Yeah. But like, it was definitely not
- 50:13like the type of thing where like where he was like just one
- 50:19of those. But I only met Josh later on.
- 50:20I didn't know in high school, but that's like the way he
- 50:22described it. How about you?
- 50:25So for me in high school, so I grew up playing soccer.
- 50:29I started playing soccer, I was like 3 years old and played
- 50:31until I was 19 or 20. So high school was like peak
- 50:36soccer career for me. And I was always one of the more
- 50:38like athletic players, but all all my friends were nerds and I
- 50:43was I did pretty well for myself in school as well.
- 50:45Like I was known to be students, but I was never the did I get
- 50:48the best grades out of my friend group?
- 50:50I got great grades, but I was always like the the more sporty
- 50:53ones. So I had like the respect of the
- 50:55jocks, let's say that were bad at school, but like really
- 50:58athletic and most of my best friends were very smart.
- 51:03So I was kind of like in between.
- 51:06But it was always so fun when we have like, you know, gym class
- 51:08or whatever. And I mean, my high school had a
- 51:10hockey rink, so we'd play not hockey.
- 51:12We play like a broom ball. If anybody knows a broom ball
- 51:15is, but I'd play broom ball goalie and my quote UN quote
- 51:19pads were hockey player, uh, knee pads.
- 51:24Those were my goalie pads and I was pretty good, not gonna lie.
- 51:27I always thought I could make it as a hockey goalie if I needed
- 51:29to be. But yeah, that's kind of where I
- 51:31was. I was like the part of the
- 51:33smart, nerdy kids, let's say, but the respect of the jocks,
- 51:38and that's kind of how it was for me.
- 51:42I don't know, like we didn't really have like that kind of
- 51:44breakdown of like nerds, jocks, whatever.
- 51:46I I kind of just got along with most people like I.
- 51:49Was saying that's. Up for me, I guess normie works.
- 51:55I did play a lot of sports though, like I played the hockey
- 52:00and basketball and also like, you know, a bit of football here
- 52:02and there. So I I definitely was sporty,
- 52:07but yeah, I just had kind of like friends and different
- 52:09friend groups. So it sort of just get along
- 52:11with most people. Like sort of a boring answer but
- 52:14I don't know I feel. Like.
- 52:16I feel like in Canadian high schools, maybe it's just like
- 52:18unique to Quebec, but there's not really like your typical
- 52:22freaks and geeks type situation, you know, not that I've ever
- 52:25seen that show, but where it's like, you know, there's like
- 52:28there's like this like you sit with the jocks, like, you know,
- 52:32you nerds, you know, it wasn't like, I mean, there were the
- 52:35people who were like in theatre who kind of did their own.
- 52:38There was, and like I was friends with those people too,
- 52:40you know, like they, they were friends with people, but they
- 52:42were kind of like unique, I would say.
- 52:44And then there were the like other people.
- 52:47There was no such thing as like jocks specifically, you know.
- 52:50So anyway, I feel like I feel like we all would have been
- 52:54friends if we went to the same high.
- 52:55School 100% we would have. We would have started a podcast.
- 52:58That's it, That's it. Alright and last but not least,
- 53:02Joshua Furon on discord ass. In your league of record, how
- 53:05good would a team of undrafted players be?
- 53:08Wow love this. What are the odds you could win
- 53:11the league without drafting? You get to pick your team after
- 53:14everyone has drafted their full team but can still stream and
- 53:18trade and follow up. Josh, unfortunately it's not
- 53:23here. How would you still acquire 4
- 53:25first round picks? Gonna leave like ours.
- 53:27There's no way you could win without dropping.
- 53:28It's way too deep Because we're 280 roster spots.
- 53:33Throwing. Injured, yeah, so it's just way
- 53:35too deep for that. But I love the concept.
- 53:39I find if it was like, you know, a hundred, a hundred players
- 53:44deep, it's actually possible. It's just it's like a ten team
- 53:47league. Honestly, I think that it could
- 53:49be feasible. I think all three of us on this
- 53:52podcast would have a lot of success attempting to win the
- 53:54league but not not having a team that drafted.
- 53:57I see this in football and I've always wanted to play in a
- 53:59football like this. I think it's called the Vampire
- 54:01League where it's like everybody drafts their team and then
- 54:04whoever does, one person doesn't draft and they make their team
- 54:07with the waiver guys and only they have access to waivers
- 54:10after. So it's a fun, it's a fun
- 54:13concept. I I really like it for hockey.
- 54:16That would be super fun in my opinion.
- 54:18Maybe we could do a couple of vampire leagues with the with
- 54:20the listeners. If we do like a shallower
- 54:22league, I think that could be fun, but the Josh would
- 54:25absolutely not acquire first round picks.
- 54:26You would not be able to. There's nobody that would be
- 54:28able to pick up off waivers that you'd have to hit on all the
- 54:30waiver guys and then convince somebody to trade them.
- 54:35Like, you have to pick up a Darren Radishes that are
- 54:36averaging 1.5 points per game, and then, you know, compare that
- 54:40with somebody else. But in our league, it's, yeah,
- 54:43there's so many, too many players getting drafted that the
- 54:45quality of the breakout candidates are also just like
- 54:47very low. Yeah, I mean there's.
- 54:50I'd love the challenge. Though yeah, there's a few
- 54:53players like it. It can't be more than like 120
- 54:57players roster to actually make it possible.
- 54:59And even then, right? I mean like you can still pick
- 55:01up players if you did draft, right?
- 55:03So the Vampire league, you're saying it's like you can't pick
- 55:06up players if you actually drafted?
- 55:08Yeah, you're not supposed to be able to.
- 55:10OK, well in that case I actually.
- 55:11Images different settings for different type of leagues but.
- 55:14Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is a fun one.
- 55:16I never, I never thought of it. Play a very cool, very cool.
- 55:21A lot of this is some fun episode.
- 55:24I want to say one more thing. I remember having a conversation
- 55:27with my friend back in the day. I think it was probably in high
- 55:30school. And I was like, I can stop 2 out
- 55:33of 10 Ovechkin slapshots. And he was like, no, you're
- 55:37crazy. Yes, you can.
- 55:39Like, I think like the whole thing was like from the blue
- 55:41line. I'm like, do you know how far
- 55:43that is? I'm like, back in the day.
- 55:45What? The blue line is pretty far.
- 55:47Yeah. Like, this is back in the day.
- 55:48We're talking so, so, you know, but I, I was like, I could
- 55:51definitely stop it. So it's funny that like, we've
- 55:53evolved and I'm still having similar conversations.
- 55:57But do you do these years later? I'm telling you no, nobody
- 56:01believes in me. But.
- 56:02But all kidding aside, like that.
- 56:04One you like, win the lottery. If all people my mind to it, I
- 56:07can do it. The numbers are right in here.
- 56:11I'm not saying these unrealistic things like I'm telling you it's
- 56:13it's 2 out of 10 shots from Ovechkin or it's 2 out of 10
- 56:17breakaways from from McDavid and they can miss the nut in
- 56:19accounts so. Anyway, yeah, but what do you
- 56:21say Save? It's just like, you know, it
- 56:23implies that the net is not being missed.
- 56:26No the the net can be. Missed we're gonna get this
- 56:29anymore. OK, so spent too much time.
- 56:32Let's take let's take it as we're finally agreed that 2 out
- 56:35of 10 breakaways from McDavid will not go in and we're both on
- 56:39the same page and it's a great place to finish the episode.
- 56:42Right. I can't believe I'm letting this
- 56:43happen, but yes. Alright, thank you everybody for
