- 0:10Welcome to Network 7's Mission Sunlight Chat
- 0:12from the General Conference Session 2025 in St.
- 0:15Louis, Missouri, in the United States. Thank
- 0:18you for being a part of our listening and viewing
- 0:20audience. We're glad to have you along. As I
- 0:22said, we're here in the General Conference session,
- 0:24but we're in the exhibit hall. You can hear kind
- 0:26of the buzz of noise behind. It's fairly early
- 0:28in the day, so not as noisy as some of our other
- 0:30episodes we've recorded. But as you look around,
- 0:32you see folks coming in, and we are delighted
- 0:34to get to know some of them from around the globe,
- 0:37many international ministries. This morning,
- 0:41we're going to interview Adam Ramden, and you
- 0:44are, I would say, international, but... Also
- 0:48domestic. I see you here in the U .S. as much
- 0:49as I see you overseas. Adam, thanks so much for
- 0:52joining us. Technically, I live overseas. Sometimes
- 0:54my neighbors do wonder if I do live there. But
- 0:58I live in England, United Kingdom. Are you near
- 1:01Newbold? Not really. Not for England. I'm about
- 1:05two and a half hours away. Okay. All right. And
- 1:08yes, great accent. Everybody loves it. Adam,
- 1:12why don't you, before we get started, have a
- 1:13word of prayer for us? Father in heaven, we thank
- 1:16you for this opportunity we have to meet together
- 1:17to share and discuss and talk about our ministries
- 1:20and our vision and our future. We pray you'll
- 1:22bless us and we ask this in your name. Amen.
- 1:25So Adam, as you said, you are from England. Give
- 1:28us a little more background. Where did you grow
- 1:30up and what was your experience growing up particularly
- 1:32connected to Christ? I grew up in England, lived
- 1:35near a town called Warwick, just south of Coventry.
- 1:39I grew up in a home that was five siblings, and
- 1:42our parents were both Seventh -day Adventists.
- 1:44Okay, what number in the five siblings were you?
- 1:46Number four. Okay. So I've got three girls, then
- 1:49me. So I was the oldest son. And then we, yeah,
- 1:53we grew up going to, you know, our parents were
- 1:55both Adventists. Both my parents were converts
- 1:57to the faith. My mother comes from a Lutheran
- 1:59background, and my father comes from a Hindu
- 2:01background. So they're both the only Seventh
- 2:02-day Adventists in their family. Okay. And then,
- 2:05so then we were raised Adventist, go to church,
- 2:08summer camps and all that kind of stuff. You
- 2:10said Lutheran and Hindu? Yeah. That's quite a
- 2:12combination. It is, yeah. My mother's from Iceland.
- 2:14My dad's from Mauritius. Was it difficult growing
- 2:18up to, for them or for you to decide, you know,
- 2:22Hindu or Christianity or? My mother was, yeah,
- 2:26Lutheran. My grandfather was actually a Lutheran
- 2:28minister. And then she went to Adventist high
- 2:30school. And that's how she became a Sunday Adventist.
- 2:32Okay. And then my father met my mother in England,
- 2:36working same place. And then she kind of introduced
- 2:40him to Adventism. And then he had his own Bible
- 2:43studies and got baptized. Okay. Wow. And so you've
- 2:46got, you said, five siblings? Yeah, there's five
- 2:49of us. Okay, there's five of you. Four siblings,
- 2:51gotcha. So, younger brother or sister? Younger
- 2:54brother and three older sisters. Right, okay.
- 2:57So, take us through your journey through high
- 2:59school. Were you committed to Christ then or
- 3:01did you find those? Not really. Kind of started,
- 3:04yeah, grew up in church, whatever, whatever,
- 3:06you know. But then, like, I guess when I was
- 3:08eight, I wanted to get baptized. My parents said
- 3:10I was too young. And then around 12, 13, started
- 3:13to kind of mentally drift. Even though we always
- 3:16went to church, that wasn't really a... It wasn't
- 3:19really an option whether we did or didn't. Parents
- 3:21were just, that's what we're doing. And so we'd
- 3:24attend church every week, but not really spiritually
- 3:26connected or no spiritual life outside of church
- 3:31attendance and any other forced attendance at
- 3:34any other events. Growing up in church and seeing
- 3:37kids that have grown up Adventist, those struggles
- 3:40of... inheriting the faith of your parents is
- 3:44it yours is it inherited and how do you make
- 3:46it personal I went kind of through that that
- 3:49transition around the age of 19 okay yeah so
- 3:53just past high school yeah past high school and
- 3:56then that's when I decided like to make it myself
- 3:58my own you know I'd heard all the sermons that
- 4:02I'd heard in my life and then it was around that
- 4:04age that Kind of seeing certain events happening
- 4:07in politics and society and some of the things
- 4:11you hear preached about prophetically starting
- 4:13to transpire or become a little bit more real
- 4:16makes me realize, you know, maybe the Bible is
- 4:19true or maybe the Bible does predict or maybe
- 4:21the Bible does talk about, you know, what's coming
- 4:23up. And so for me, I guess the thing that kind
- 4:26of lit the spark was maybe predictive prophecy.
- 4:30Okay. And then, you know, I went on to read the
- 4:32book Steps to Christ, and that really starts
- 4:34to kind of, you know, introduce you to the gospel
- 4:36and who Christ is. So it was kind of a combination.
- 4:39It wasn't any one event. It was gradual over
- 4:42several months, really, where, yeah. It took
- 4:46you, your ministry is called Lineage and Lineage
- 4:50Journey. Is that correct? It was a journey. It
- 4:52took you a bit of a journey. Yeah, I mean, some
- 4:54people have this boom, this was it. And for me,
- 4:56I can't really pinpoint any time. I know a time
- 4:59period, but I don't know a set time. Tell me
- 5:02about your relationship with your wife. You have
- 5:04a family now. And when did that, how did that
- 5:07intersect? 19 or later? I moved to the States
- 5:10when I was 19, went to study. After I studied,
- 5:14I worked for a bit. And then I worked for four
- 5:16years over here. Met my wife, just mutual friends
- 5:20and various different events. You know, nothing
- 5:22at first. It was just kind of knew who she was.
- 5:25And then later on, her sister married my best
- 5:28friend. And I walked her down the aisle as the
- 5:30best man and the maid of honor. And I thought,
- 5:32maybe I should do this again. And then. Wasn't
- 5:36a bad idea, huh? Wasn't a bad idea. It took her
- 5:38a while to come around, though. All right. And
- 5:42today you have how many kids? So we have two
- 5:45kids, a boy and a girl, boy first and a girl.
- 5:48And, yeah, we live as a family in England and
- 5:50travel with ministry as well. Okay. So she followed
- 5:53you back home. Yeah. Yeah, I've always, when
- 5:56I was in school, felt called, for want of a better
- 5:59word or term, to live and work in England. And
- 6:02when we got married, I was working as a youth
- 6:05director at the time in our church structure.
- 6:07And yeah, so that was where I felt called to
- 6:10be, and she came along. What were you doing for
- 6:13a living after college or university? I did a
- 6:16lot of things. I mean, not a lot. I worked as
- 6:18a Bible worker. I worked as a literature evangelist.
- 6:20I worked as an amazing fact evangelist. And then
- 6:25that was what I was working as when I moved back
- 6:27to England. And in England I worked as a Bible
- 6:29worker, as a pastor, as an evangelist school
- 6:31director, as a youth director, personal ministry
- 6:35director. Yeah. So you've done some work both
- 6:38outside of the institutional church and for the
- 6:41institutional church. Yeah, I've done self -supporting
- 6:42work and also institutional conference work as
- 6:45well. Okay. Yeah. So you've got some experience
- 6:47on both sides. Yeah, yeah. It's interesting to
- 6:49observe the differences in comparison. Yeah,
- 6:52the dynamics are often different. Yeah. Well,
- 6:56it's interesting to hear you talk about your
- 7:00experiences being varied because I think that
- 7:04those things are what, for me anyway, what helped
- 7:07prepare me to develop and be able to function
- 7:10in a supporting ministry role that I have because
- 7:14of all the experiences and the people connections.
- 7:16Learning, I guess, is what I'm saying. Life experiences
- 7:19help prepare. I didn't have just a one single
- 7:23track of this is how it should be. I saw it could
- 7:26be a lot of different ways. And I also learned
- 7:29to cope or wrestle with different people. I mean,
- 7:35I imagine as you were in multiple cultures and
- 7:37in multiple settings, that also helps you in
- 7:39your work as a director, I assume president of
- 7:44Ledge. It does, yeah. So what is, in just a sentence,
- 7:49what is lineage? It's a multimedia ministry that
- 7:53seeks to educate people on their spiritual heritage,
- 7:55where they come from, answering the question,
- 7:58where do I come from? And knowing that question,
- 8:00we can know where we're going. Good. We're going
- 8:03to take a break. I want to come back and learn
- 8:04more about lineage. journey and more of what
- 8:07you're doing and what your team are up to next
- 8:10as we visit some more, Adam. We'll be back with
- 8:13more Mission Sunlight chat. I want to remind
- 8:15you, you can connect with us at missionsunlight
- 8:17.org. Text us at 1 -423 -855 -4877. You can email
- 8:22us at hello at missionsunlight .org. Back in
- 8:24a moment. Being a media missionary can mean many
- 8:36different things. It means the love of a home
- 8:38at the heart of the planet. The intrepid spirit
- 8:42of a village and the vibe of a great metropolis.
- 8:45It means camera one and camera two. It means
- 8:50transforming a school, orphanage, or hospital.
- 8:53It means fire, rain, ice, and snow. It means
- 8:58gifts by the dollar and by the check. It means
- 9:01donations that roll and donations that fly. It's
- 9:07a movement on a trail or down a motorway. It
- 9:11means family. All of us together. And individually.
- 9:17It's who you are or who you are becoming. And
- 9:21to her, it's a simple gesture that means hope.
- 9:25Whatever it means to you, being a media missionary.
- 9:29means more than you might think. Welcome back
- 9:40to Mission Sunlight Chat. We're talking to Adam
- 9:42Ramden, who is the, yeah, I didn't ask you your
- 9:44title, director, president, executive producer
- 9:46of Lineage Journey. Tell us how Lineage... came
- 9:52to be first tell us its history before we talk
- 9:54about the history i was a youth director and
- 9:57i realized one of the challenges of young people
- 10:01now i later realize it's people in general people
- 10:03don't read and so if they want to find out what
- 10:06their history and heritage is they're not they're
- 10:08not reading so where do they find it and so it
- 10:11was a desire to translate the written word into
- 10:14a visual word and create a resource that people
- 10:17could educate people on our spiritual heritage
- 10:20And so we started off with just a few videos
- 10:21and here we are, seven years later, still making
- 10:24them. Do you feel like it was a difficult start
- 10:29or did things come together easily? In some ways
- 10:32it was difficult because we had no money. And
- 10:37everyone that started was a volunteer. I mean,
- 10:40I was working for the organization, so I guess
- 10:42I was paid, but everyone else... was volunteering
- 10:46their time taking holiday taking pay without
- 10:49leave i mean work whatever you call it leave
- 10:51without pay and and so in that sense there was
- 10:54a lot of struggles early on you know we yeah
- 10:57we were yeah traveling sleeping on floor sleeping
- 11:00in tents sleeping wherever to get it done so
- 11:02the budget we use to produce season one is is
- 11:06ridiculously hilariously minuscule small but
- 11:11yet you know the sacrifices were worth it you
- 11:14know Go back to the struggle in the beginning
- 11:16because I'm curious. Was this something that
- 11:20you felt the Holy Spirit laid on your heart solely
- 11:22or did others really catch a quick vision? It
- 11:24was actually not my idea. Okay. Clive, the videographer,
- 11:27media director, it was his idea. He approached
- 11:29me and said, I want to make a resource because
- 11:31I've been looking online for videos on history,
- 11:33on great controversy, and I can't find anything
- 11:35that's either good quality or short. So he said,
- 11:39would you like to make them with me? So I was
- 11:40like, sure. So it was his vision in a sense,
- 11:43that kind of idea. So there's a gap online, and
- 11:47I'd like to create something to fill it. And
- 11:49so he approached me. We had been working together
- 11:50on other projects. But it was his idea, and then
- 11:53I kind of ran with the idea, the thinking behind
- 11:56it, putting the scripts together and all that
- 11:58kind of stuff. So the reason why I ask you that
- 12:00question is because when a listener or viewer,
- 12:02somebody is checking this out, and they hear,
- 12:04oh. Might be easy to start a ministry. I want
- 12:07them to understand, and I would think you would
- 12:08want them to understand that it takes some thought
- 12:11and some planning. It's not just like you show
- 12:13up and just do something. You need to have conversations.
- 12:15You need affirmation from others. You need to
- 12:18really balance your idea. The idea he approached
- 12:22me with is in July. And then I kind of like,
- 12:25yeah, that's a good idea. Initially, we were
- 12:27just going to make five videos. And then we're
- 12:29like, oh, well, actually, you know, why don't
- 12:32we just make them one week every day next year?
- 12:34Not realizing how much work that would be. And
- 12:37then, so I put the list together. I bounced that
- 12:40list of various people, historians, what you
- 12:43think of this, this, this, and this. And then
- 12:46we did it. And then once we did it, we were like,
- 12:48wow, this is a lot of work. How are we going
- 12:49to keep this up every week of the year? But we'd
- 12:52made that commitment, and so we did it. And,
- 12:54yeah, it was a lot of sacrifice, particularly
- 12:57for him more than me. Just an aside, we have
- 13:01a Mission Sunlight Chat podcast that drops every
- 13:03Thursday afternoon here in the U .S., and that's
- 13:07a lot of work when you make that commitment to
- 13:09have one every single week. Once you make that
- 13:10commitment, yeah. One of the blessings of conventions
- 13:13like this is we're able to capture a lot at once,
- 13:15but that was something we needed to consider
- 13:17and goes back to planning and prep. So, okay,
- 13:21lineage. Tell me more about what you do on the
- 13:24everyday basis. Begin with your first season.
- 13:28Talk us through what's there and also how we
- 13:30can connect with lineage. Sure. The first season
- 13:32was early church and Reformation history. That
- 13:35was 48 episodes. Our second season was Adventist
- 13:38history. That was 52 episodes. Then after that,
- 13:42we kind of went back in time and did the Bible.
- 13:43I guess if we'd planned this strategically, we'd
- 13:46have done the Bible first, but it just happened
- 13:48as it happened. And so the next season was kind
- 13:50of following the conflict of the age series,
- 13:52and we did a little mini -series on the Old Testament,
- 13:54New Testament, and so on. It is an exciting series.
- 13:58I've seen much of it. I haven't seen every bit
- 13:59of it, but I've seen much of it. Jordan, I'm
- 14:01going to ask you to click your mic on over there.
- 14:03Jordan is our director of production, and Jordan,
- 14:05I'm going to make a crazy commitment to Adam
- 14:07right now. We're going to, with your permission,
- 14:11whatever length you choose to give us, we're
- 14:13going to preview just a section. here in just
- 14:17a moment. And I don't know what that'll be. You'll
- 14:19give that to us after the program, but we're
- 14:20going to take a break in the program here. And
- 14:22Jordan, can we just drop that in and let folks
- 14:25have a little preview of lineage? Sounds like
- 14:28a great idea. I think people will enjoy it. All
- 14:29right. I don't know what we're rolling, but we'll
- 14:31roll that footage. Maybe the episode on the Waldensians
- 14:33is a good one. Let's roll it. Foremost in Europe,
- 14:55the Waldensians stand as a body of believers
- 14:58who resisted the compromises that came into Christianity
- 15:02following the superficial conversion of Constantine
- 15:05in the 4th century. They were based primarily
- 15:08here amongst the stunning and beautiful mountains
- 15:11of northern Italy. Some say the first Waldensian
- 15:14was Peter Waldo, a 12th century merchant man
- 15:17from Lyon, France, and they're named after him.
- 15:20However, there are records that date back much
- 15:22further, to at least the 4th century with Vigilantus.
- 15:30Adam, thank you for sharing that with us. If
- 15:32folks want to connect and see more of the series,
- 15:35how do they do that? Website is the best way.
- 15:37I mean, it's not just the videos. We've got articles
- 15:39and written resources and a whole bunch of things
- 15:41there, which is lineagejourney .com. But our
- 15:44social media handle on YouTube, Facebook and
- 15:46all the rest is at Lineage Journey. Okay, thank
- 15:49you. The Great Controversy is a book written
- 15:56by Ellen G. White. We have listeners all over
- 15:58the world, not all of them Seventh -day Adventists
- 16:00who would be familiar with her writings. And
- 16:02as you use that kind of as your outline, is that
- 16:06fair to say? in what ways would you say it compares
- 16:10with what's written there and what ways would
- 16:12you say it isn't? Do you use a lot of quotations
- 16:15or do you use just what she described and then
- 16:18put it into modern language? Yeah, I think the
- 16:20second point there, we don't really use many
- 16:23or any of our quotations in our videos at all.
- 16:27We kind of have read through them. You cover
- 16:29the subject material that she's talking about
- 16:31in the historical times. Okay, good. And are
- 16:34you writing this? I do, yeah. I write the scripts,
- 16:37yeah. Okay. Yeah. Good. Has that been meaningful
- 16:40to you to go through kind of writing your own
- 16:43journey of The Great Controversy? It's its own
- 16:46challenge. You've got to read a chapter and summarize
- 16:4915 pages into six paragraphs. Have you thought
- 16:53about taking that and doing an illustrated version
- 16:56of kind of a modern telling of The Great Controversy?
- 17:00I just gave you an idea. Possibly. I mean, we
- 17:03have an illustrated version of the original Great
- 17:06Controversy. I can just see you taking those
- 17:08scripts and then with some of the shots from
- 17:10your scenes there and it being an interesting
- 17:12read. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe. It's a good idea.
- 17:16Thank you. You're welcome. So we're talking about
- 17:18the Great Controversy, but you've done more than
- 17:20that. Yeah, we've done Great Controversy. The
- 17:22Great Controversy was actually our last series.
- 17:24We did a video on every chapter of the Great
- 17:27Controversy, which we hadn't done. And how many
- 17:29is that? Is that 30 or 40? 42. So we hadn't done
- 17:32that before. We had covered some chapters, but
- 17:34obviously not the more doctrinal or prophetic
- 17:37chapters. So we did those, and then we produced
- 17:40the Great Controversy, which has illustrations,
- 17:43QR codes, and everything in it. So a person can
- 17:46read and then go and... Watch the video? Yeah,
- 17:49could I show you? Absolutely. Let's take a pause.
- 17:51Oh, you've got it here. I've got it right here.
- 17:53I thought we were going to have to take a break.
- 17:54You're ready to go. Jordan, can we get a shot
- 17:57of that? Get it the right way. Yeah, there we
- 18:00go. There it is there. And that's a hardback
- 18:01book. It's not cheap. It's a hardback book. It's
- 18:03heavily illustrated. Wow, that's beautiful. And
- 18:08then every chapter's got a QR code at the beginning
- 18:11and the end and so on. And for clarity, because
- 18:13I know we're going to get questions about this
- 18:15specific question. Is it the original complete
- 18:18Great Controversy? It's the original complete
- 18:20Great Controversy with the original text, yeah.
- 18:22There are some abridged versions and some shortened
- 18:25versions for friendship giving away. This is
- 18:27every chapter. It's got the appendix and all
- 18:29that as well. All right. So that's... Get a website,
- 18:33yeah. And again, give us that website. Lineagejourney
- 18:36.com Lineage Journey. All right, we're going
- 18:39to take another break and come back and we'll
- 18:41talk a little bit more about lineage and some
- 18:42other things in just a moment. Adam, thank you
- 18:44so much for sharing with us. Thank you for being
- 18:46a part of our listening and viewing audience
- 18:48today. Remember, you can connect with us at missionsunlight
- 18:51.org. You can feel free to click there, learn
- 18:53more about us, other programs that we have. Text
- 18:56us 1 -423 -855 -4877. That's 1 -423 -855 -4877.
- 19:03Email hello at missionsunlight .org. We love
- 19:05hearing from you. Shoot us your prayer request.
- 19:08However you want to connect with us, we welcome
- 19:10that. We'll be back in a moment with more Mission
- 19:12Sunlight Chat. Our salvation is a day -to -day
- 19:23matter, isn't it? The real principle of the Sabbath
- 19:28is reconnecting ourselves with the Creator. We
- 19:36must learn to abide in Jesus' name. We move ahead
- 19:40with our mission objectives, recognizing that
- 19:43we are serving together the Most High God. Welcome
- 19:58back to Mission Sunlight Chat. I am thoroughly
- 20:00enjoying our conversation with Adam Ramdon. Adam,
- 20:02first of all, I enjoy, Jordan and I both enjoy
- 20:05talking with people who are in media ministry,
- 20:08sharing the gospel through the thing that is
- 20:12impacting everybody. If you look at people walking
- 20:15around us, more than half the people are on their
- 20:17phone or holding their phone or an iPad or some
- 20:19other tablet device, something. It's everywhere.
- 20:22We have to be, as a Christian church, we have
- 20:25to be where people are and where people are.
- 20:27is right here. Yep, connected digitally. Yep,
- 20:31so you're creating content, we're creating content
- 20:33to hopefully connect people with encouragement
- 20:36and very specifically with Jesus. Yep, yep. You
- 20:41have some other projects that you are working
- 20:44on that have just begun, at least at the airing
- 20:47of this broadcast in fall of 2025. Tell us what
- 20:50that is. Our series that we're working on, that
- 20:54we have been working on, that we'll be releasing
- 20:55for the second part of 2025 is called Women of
- 20:58Christian History. We did cover the Reformation
- 21:00in season one, which was seven years ago, and
- 21:03we only covered one woman there. And then we
- 21:05kind of, one of our team members wrote a book
- 21:07called Sisters in Arms, which covered eight stories
- 21:10of women of the Reformation. It was a real bestseller.
- 21:13So we thought, let's expand that and maybe let's
- 21:15make a series out of that as well. Let me pause
- 21:17you there. Sisters in Arms. Is that something
- 21:20available on Adventist Book Center or Amazon?
- 21:23Pacific sells it and you can also get it on Amazon.
- 21:25You can also get it at the lineage website as
- 21:27well. I just want to encourage people if that's
- 21:28a resource they might be interested in. So tell
- 21:30us how it's connected with lineage. So then we
- 21:32thought, let's build a series out of that. And
- 21:33so we found some other stories, less known women.
- 21:36And so we're telling their stories of, you know,
- 21:38heroes of history and what their struggles were,
- 21:40what they went through. And that's a 23. 23 -part
- 21:43series, yeah. Okay. And this is in the works.
- 21:47When do you anticipate release? That's going
- 21:49to take a bit for 23. No, we're going to release.
- 21:51It's already edited. We're going to release that
- 21:52maybe the week after GC session, and then the
- 21:54second half of 2023 it should. It will be going
- 21:57out. Second half of 2025. I'm back there in 2023
- 22:02too. So as this broadcast is first being released,
- 22:07that should be available. Again, how can they
- 22:09connect with seeing that? On the website, lineagejourney
- 22:11.com or YouTube channel, Lineage Journey. Okay.
- 22:15Adam, I'm going to give you a few minutes here
- 22:17just to look at this camera, share with our listeners
- 22:19and viewers. Just a word of encouragement. Sure.
- 22:24One of my favorite passages in the Bible currently,
- 22:27and I don't really have a favorite one of all
- 22:30time, but one of my favorite passages currently
- 22:32that really inspires the work that we do is the
- 22:35passage in Joshua chapter 4, verses 1 through
- 22:38to 7. It's a story of the children of Israel
- 22:41as they're crossing the Red Sea, no, the River
- 22:44Jordan rather, and Joshua instructs 12 men, one
- 22:47of every tribe, to go into the river. and pick
- 22:50up a stone that they then put on his shoulder,
- 22:52the indication being this is a big, big stone,
- 22:55and to carry these large rocks out of the River
- 22:59Jordan and then put them on the side. And then
- 23:02they're basically looking around at Joshua saying,
- 23:04well, what are we doing that for? Why would we
- 23:06carry these huge stones and put them on the side
- 23:08of the river? And then he tells him in verse
- 23:107 the reason why. He says, I want you to carry
- 23:13these stones. I want you to put them on the side
- 23:15of the river. And then he says, and the reason
- 23:16for this, is because it's going to be a memorial
- 23:20to you for future generations that you will remember
- 23:24that this is what God has done for you. You know,
- 23:27God has done great things in our past lives.
- 23:29All of us have got something in our life that
- 23:31we can look back on and remind us and encourage
- 23:33us that God worked in my life back then. And
- 23:36if God worked in my life back then, he can work
- 23:39in my life now. As lineage, we try and encourage
- 23:41people of the stories collectively we have in
- 23:43our past history and remind us how God worked
- 23:46in the Reformation. He worked in the time of
- 23:48the pioneers. And God can still work and will
- 23:50work in our lives collectively today. But we
- 23:53also have individual stories. I want to encourage
- 23:55you never to forget how God has led you in the
- 23:58past because we've got nothing to fear for the
- 24:00future unless we forget how God has led us in
- 24:03the past. Adam, thank you. That is encouraging.
- 24:06I can think of more than one of those rock -finding
- 24:10moments where I know that I want to remember
- 24:12that God helped me through. So we're going to
- 24:17do something special for our... listeners and
- 24:20viewers who have stayed with us with Adam's permission.
- 24:23We're going to show you a episode from lineage
- 24:27journey. Do you have an idea of which one we're
- 24:28going to look at? I'm thinking William Tyndale,
- 24:30William Tyndale. So we're going to conclude our
- 24:33program with that. So let me have Jordan do our
- 24:37closing prayer in just a moment, and then we're
- 24:40just going to roll that, and we'll roll the credits
- 24:43for the program after you see the lineage journey.
- 24:46But once again, Adam, how can folks connect with
- 24:49lineage? Thank you. And all the handles and everything,
- 24:51just give it all to us. And we'll put this in
- 24:53the bio as well. All social media platform is
- 24:55at lineagejourney, and then our website is lineagejourney
- 24:59.com. Very good. Lots of exciting things happening
- 25:02there that they can see and that they can see
- 25:05coming. So, so. Yeah, very good. Thank you for
- 25:08being a part of our Mission Sunlight chat journey
- 25:10as well. Thanks for listening. Remember, you
- 25:12can connect with us at missionsunlight .org.

- 25:41special episode of lineage. And we pray that
- 25:45you will be blessed as you watch it. Jordan,
- 25:47would you pray for our audience as we go to that?
- 25:50Sure, let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank you
- 25:52for how you've led each one of us in the past.
- 25:56And I thank you for projects like Lineage that
- 25:58help us to remember how you've led the church,
- 26:01but it's also a reminder how you lead us personally.
- 26:04I pray that as we go through life, we remember
- 26:07what you've done for us, and we have the assurance
- 26:10that you will continue to do that for us in our
- 26:12lives. Please continue to bless Lineage as they
- 26:16share your word and your history and what you
- 26:21continue to do for people. Bless them as they
- 26:25move forward on new projects. Also, Lord, bless
- 26:28our listeners. Help them to see where you've
- 26:31led them in the past and how you're working in
- 26:34their lives now. And if there's somebody who
- 26:36doesn't necessarily know or see you working in
- 26:39their lives right now, I pray that they'll look
- 26:41back on their history and be able to see where
- 26:44you've led them, but also ask you into their
- 26:47hearts right now and ask you to lead them as
- 26:50they move forward so that they can see your work
- 26:53in their lives. Thank you for everything that
- 26:55you do for us, and we put you ahead of us so
- 26:59that you can direct our path. In your name, amen.
- 27:02Thank you, Jordan. Adam, as we go to this special
- 27:04feature, thank you for joining us here in the
- 27:06General Conference Session Exhibit Hall. It's
- 27:08been a blessing, and it's always a blessing to
- 27:10hear the hubbub and noise of all the ministries
- 27:13at work. Let's take a look at Lenny's Journey.
- 27:36The 16th century was populated by some of the
- 27:38greatest minds in religious history. Luther,
- 27:41Calvin, Zwingli, Knox, Latimer, Ridley, Cramner.
- 27:45And sitting comfortably amongst this group of
- 27:48luminaries was William Tyndale, translator of
- 27:51the English Bible. Tyndale was born in Gloucestershire
- 27:54in 1494 in a small village called North Nibley,
- 27:59marked today by this monument overlooking the
- 28:02village. He was educated at Oxford and completed
- 28:13his BA in 1512 and his MA in 1515 before coming
- 28:18here to Cambridge University where he met Dutch
- 28:21scholar Erasmus who was teaching Greek. Tyndale
- 28:25wanted to translate the Bible into English but
- 28:27no one in England was willing to undertake such
- 28:30a daring task. Since 1408 the Oxford Commission
- 28:40had forbidden the translation of the Bible into
- 28:43the English language, even prohibiting its use
- 28:46in the training curriculum for preachers. Kochalius,
- 28:50a notorious papal theologian, had this perspective.
- 28:54The New Testament translated into the language
- 28:56of the people is in truth the food of death,
- 29:00the fuel of sin. the veil of malice, the pretext
- 29:04of false liberty, the protection of disobedience,
- 29:07the corruption of discipline, the depravity of
- 29:10morals, the termination of concord, the death
- 29:13of honesty, the wellspring of vices, the disease
- 29:16of virtue, the instigation of rebellion, the
- 29:20milk of pride, the nourishment of contempt, the
- 29:23death of peace, the destruction of charity, the
- 29:27enemy of unity, the murderer of truth. Immersed
- 29:38in such a climate, Tyndale encountered a learned
- 29:40friend who said, we were better without God's
- 29:43laws than the Pope's. To which Tyndale responded,
- 29:47I defy the Pope and all his laws. If God spare
- 29:51my life ere many years, I will cause a boy that
- 29:55driveth the plow shall know more of the scriptures
- 29:57than thou doest. Forbidden to work in England,
- 30:05Tyndale traveled through Europe. from Hamburg
- 30:07to Cologne to Worms to Antwerp, using the Greek
- 30:11and Hebrew texts to craft a masterpiece of the
- 30:15English language. Time and time again, the papacy
- 30:19tried to stop his work, but the Lord watched
- 30:22over his servant. One account tells us how the
- 30:25Bishop of Durham, seeking to hinder his work,
- 30:28bought all his Bibles. but this merely provided
- 30:31him with the money he needed to produce a larger
- 30:34number of better quality Bibles. Tyndale contributed
- 30:42as much to the scholarship of English literature
- 30:45as Shakespeare and Chaucer, producing many of
- 30:48the translations of the Bible that we use today.
- 30:52In fact, much of the King James Bible produced
- 30:5560 years later was taken almost verbatim from
- 30:59Tyndale's Bible. Phrases such as, the spirit
- 31:02is willing, but the flesh is weak. O death, where
- 31:06is thy sting? And seek ye first. All these came
- 31:10from William Tyndale. Today, there are two remaining
- 31:14copies of Tyndale's Bible, one of which is here
- 31:17in the British Library, purchased for one million
- 31:20pounds and accessible to view free of charge.
- 31:27Sadly, Tyndale was betrayed by Henry Phillips
- 31:30in Antwerp, who feigned friendship in order to
- 31:33gain Tyndale's trust and betrayed him to guards
- 31:37as he was leaving his house. He was taken to
- 31:40a castle in Villevorde, Belgium, condemned as
- 31:43a heretic, strangled and burned to death in 1536.
- 31:47His last words were, Lord, open the King of England's
- 31:53eyes. Within one year of his death, A Bible was
- 31:57placed in every parish church throughout the
- 31:59whole of England by order of the king. The poignant
- 32:06Christian song tells us, martyrs' blood stains
- 32:09each page. They have died for this faith. Hear
- 32:13them cry through the years. Oh, hear these words
- 32:16and hold them dear. The word of God has come
- 32:19to us at such great cost. May we not treat it
- 32:22flippantly, haphazardly. but may we treasure
- 32:25it and commit to study and share God's word each
- 32:29day.
