- 0:19Hello my fellow nerds, it is Megan from Vigilante Vibes and
- 0:24I'm here to give you my review of Fantastic Four first steps
- 0:28and spoilers and all. If you want a non spoiler
- 0:31version of this video, just check out my YouTube because I
- 0:34also have that video right there waiting for you.
- 0:36But there will be spoilers from this point forward, so be
- 0:38careful. I I loved this movie.
- 0:43I really, really liked it. It was so much there.
- 0:49Where to start? I'll get started with the
- 0:51characters. Ben Grimm that's played by Evan
- 0:54Bacharach. Oh, that was a perfect rendition
- 0:58of Ben Grimm. That is who I want as Ben Grimm.
- 1:01He wasn't mopey, he wasn't someone who was just hard on
- 1:05himself because of who he is. He was a very strong character.
- 1:09They played very, very well into his expertise in piloting and he
- 1:15had a perfect chemistry with every person on the team, with
- 1:19Johnny as they bickered back and forth like siblings.
- 1:23With Sue, who he sees as a sibling, not always in the
- 1:26comics, there was a point where he kind of has thing for her,
- 1:29but it doesn't show in this movie.
- 1:31And also his best friendship with Reed Richards.
- 1:35It was just he that was just, they nailed it.
- 1:39That was perfect. Johnny Storm, I think I'm in
- 1:44love with him. I this is it.
- 1:49I've changed everything about myself.
- 1:53Now I am in love with Johnny Storm.
- 1:55Joseph Quinn brings something very new to the character while
- 1:58also respecting who he was in the comics.
- 2:02It it was interesting, Johnny Storm wanting to prove himself
- 2:06throughout the movie. Like I'm good enough to be on
- 2:08the Fantastic Four, I'm smart enough, I can do this.
- 2:11I really like that vulnerability.
- 2:13He was also very funny, always looking for action and not an F
- 2:18boy. Like that's always been my
- 2:20problem with Chris Evans rendition of Johnny Storm.
- 2:25While I did always appreciate it, he leaned too heavily into
- 2:28being the F boy and not as heavily enough into showing that
- 2:34how smart he is, how talented he is, how good of a team member he
- 2:39is, and also how good of a brother he is.
- 2:44I think that showed very, very well with Joseph Quinn and he
- 2:48gave a lot of heart to Johnny Storm that has been in the
- 2:51comics and that I feel like has missed in a lot of comics.
- 2:56The person that stole the show for me was Sue Storm.
- 2:58Vanessa Kirby, She is Sue Storm. This is This casting is right up
- 3:05there with Robert Downey Junior as Iron Man.
- 3:10I'm in Vilani as Miss Marvel, Tom Hiddleston as Loki.
- 3:13It is right up there. She is amazing.
- 3:16She has every vibe you want from Sue Storm.
- 3:21She had it. The sexiness of how beautiful
- 3:25she is, what a beautiful soul she is, how much she just loves
- 3:32her family, how strong she is. And I after this, I better never
- 3:37hear anyone say Sue Storm is not the strongest one on the
- 3:40Fantastic Four. I better not hear that at all
- 3:43because they prove it in the comics, then they proved it in
- 3:45the MCU. Amazing, amazing performance.
- 3:49Now the one I'm still conflicted on.
- 3:52A lot of you know that I am not a fan of Reed Richards.
- 3:55I have never been. Mr. Fantastic is more like Mr.
- 3:58Villain to me, and if you disagree that's cool, I don't
- 4:01really care. But Pedro is all things lovable
- 4:06so it's a very hard place to be. He brings something very
- 4:12interesting to the character. Less of the narcissism and more
- 4:20of the in his head trying to figure out what to do for the
- 4:23betterment of his family but less of the selfishness it he
- 4:28showed. More of the caring side of Reed
- 4:31Richards rather than the the Dick side of him.
- 4:36I guess. I don't know but I it had me
- 4:40questioning halfway through like am IA Reed Richards fan.
- 4:45Did Pedro just change me? Just I'm still working through
- 4:50it. I don't know the next one.
- 4:53Galactus. If you're a comics fan, you're
- 4:58going to love what they do with Galactus.
- 5:00You're going to love how terrifying he is.
- 5:01You're going to live how menacing he is.
- 5:03If you're not a comics fan, you're going to love it because
- 5:06they do so well. They just, they do.
- 5:11They bring it to life in a way that you can feel the daunting
- 5:16feeling of him when you read him in the comics.
- 5:18It's just, it was fantastic. I'm trying so hard not to use
- 5:23that word to describe it because I feel like it's a little
- 5:25overplayed at this point. But the next one, Sheila Ball,
- 5:29played by Julia Gardner, amazing scenes with her, incredible
- 5:33scenes with her, very, very comic accurate that the
- 5:37Fantastic Four takes down Galactus with the help of the
- 5:40Silver Surfer. And they brought that aspect to
- 5:42life. And I think she absolutely
- 5:45nailed it. It was don't say fantastic.
- 5:50It was incredible. They it was incredibly well
- 5:53done. There was a lot of heart that
- 5:55she brought to the Silver Surfer that you don't really get to see
- 5:58with Shilal Ball because there's so little of her in the comics.
- 6:01I know a lot of people wanted Noor and Rad, but I don't think
- 6:06we're going to see Shilal Ball again.
- 6:08I think it's going to be Noor and Rad.
- 6:10So why would you want it to be Noor and Rad if this is, if we
- 6:15only see this Silver Surfer one time, why would you want that
- 6:18wasted on Noor and Rad? I just thought that was always
- 6:21pretty obvious reasoning there, but whatever.
- 6:26So about the movie. This is easily the most comic
- 6:30accurate movie Marvelous put out.
- 6:32Matt Shockman, the director has put in so much work into
- 6:35creating something that is a comic book brought to life.
- 6:39You can tell that he's a genuine fan and the people that worked
- 6:42on this movie are genuine fans of the of the comics of the
- 6:45Fantastic Four ones that have gone it's they've been around
- 6:49since the beginning of Marvel and there's so much respect paid
- 6:55to their characters and their history.
- 6:58It there is. It was interesting how involved
- 7:04Franklin was in the movie because I always thought like
- 7:07this is too early to bring in Franklin.
- 7:08There's no way because I've always thought Marvel Studios
- 7:13isn't quite equipped to handle such an overpowered character.
- 7:17I still kind of think that, but they did a good job handling
- 7:23Franklin as a baby and moving forward I'm curious how they're
- 7:27going to handle him as I don't know what he'll be in Doomsday.
- 7:31Probably like 4. There is 2 post credit scenes
- 7:36and one does have to deal with Franklin and we get to see
- 7:39Doctor Doom. We get to see him and let me
- 7:42tell you, I was my theater was very hyped throughout this
- 7:47movie. There was clapping, there was
- 7:48cheering, but when it got to Doctor Doom, none of them knew
- 7:52who he was. None of them knew.
- 7:54It took them like a good solid 30 seconds to get it.
- 7:58And that was after a few of us were like, it's Doctor Doom.
- 8:01That's when they all finally like, Oh my God, whatever.
- 8:05I whatever, but it the the post credits scene, it shows Sue
- 8:13Storm reading a book to Franklin and then she leaves the room to
- 8:17grab another book and she comes back and Doctor Doom is standing
- 8:21there with Franklin. And that credit scene was
- 8:26actually directed by the Russo brothers.
- 8:30For those who don't know, Matt Shockman said that they were on
- 8:34set a lot to get to know the characters and the actors.
- 8:36And they did make that credit scene just as they made the post
- 8:39credit scene and the Thunderbolts so or New Avengers,
- 8:43I don't know what we're supposed to call it.
- 8:44I'm going to call it Thunderbolts.
- 8:48So, and this movie supposed to lead directly into Doomsday.
- 8:51So that tells us that Franklin's going to be a very big focal
- 8:55point of Avengers Doomsday, which like, I don't know.
- 8:59I don't know. I'm still nervous.
- 9:03I don't think they really know how to handle a big character
- 9:05like that. Not big character, but a very
- 9:08overpowered character. So there is negatives I found
- 9:15about this movie. For one, I don't think there's
- 9:18enough action scenes. I think Reed Richards uses his
- 9:21powers like we get to see him. His powers use maybe like 3
- 9:24times. It did an incredible job setting
- 9:27the tone of them. But I won't say it's the best
- 9:31Marvel movie, but I will say it's the best fantastic movie.
- 9:34Fantastic Four movie by far. I really enjoyed it, even though
- 9:37there were some things I would have preferred to happen
- 9:39differently, But I think it nailed the tone of the Fantastic
- 9:42Four comics. It nailed the characteristics of
- 9:44these characters that make them who they are, who we've read and
- 9:47loved for so, so long. And it brought the Fantastic
- 9:51Four centric villains that really made it feel like a comic
- 9:54book brought to life. And that's what at the end of
- 9:57it, that's how I feel about it overall, that it is a comic book
- 10:01brought to life. Overall, The Fantastic Four
- 10:06First Steps was a beautiful love letter to Jack Kirby.
- 10:10They even ended the movie with a quote from Jack Kirby that says,
- 10:15if you look at my characters, you'll find me.
- 10:17No matter what kind of character you create or assume, a little
- 10:19of yourself must remain there. And it's like a lot of you know,
- 10:23I don't cry at movies. I've mentioned it before.
- 10:26I just don't I don't have that. I don't know what bone that is
- 10:29that you're born with. I was born without it.
- 10:31But at that point I was like, I felt it was like, it was nice
- 10:35seeing Jack Kirby getting the recognition he deserves that
- 10:38usually that love goes for Stan Lee, but Matt Shockman made very
- 10:43sure to include and pay so much respect to Jack Kirby.
- 10:47And I think that itself should be talked about.
- 10:50I it was, it was beautiful. I loved it.
- 10:54But the Fantastic Four First steps was a movie made for comic
- 10:58book fans. I, I do think those who didn't
- 11:03read the comics will have a more challenging time keeping up with
- 11:05the characters and the dynamics. But then again, I wouldn't know
- 11:10because I read the comics. So if you did have trouble
- 11:13keeping up and you didn't read the comics, let me know in the
- 11:16comments 'cause I want to know. But I think it'll go over the
- 11:20heads a little bit of some people.
- 11:23But I also think that's OK. I hope that brings in more
- 11:26people to want to read the comics and learn about these
- 11:28characters and these dynamics and these stories.
- 11:30Like, I can't imagine going into that movie and seeing like the
- 11:35cover of the very first Fantastic Four comic, Fantastic
- 11:40Four number one played out on screen and not realizing what it
- 11:46is. I I really hope if you didn't
- 11:48read the comics, just check them out there.
- 11:51I think it would make you more excited for it.
- 11:54I my biggest thing about Marvel Studios is that they've never
- 12:02really done much work in involving the comics in their
- 12:06promotions or in their movies. Like imagine if every Marvel
- 12:10movie at the end, they said you can read these stories in this
- 12:14comic, this comic, this comic. Like I think that would be
- 12:17really cool because this is all the from the source material.
- 12:20Don't pretend it's not. Don't pretend like you're making
- 12:22this up on the spot. You have all the answers in a
- 12:25comic. Just it's right there.
- 12:28But I will say in the Fantastic Four first steps, they did up
- 12:31their game some when they had the history of the Fantastic
- 12:36Four, a 90 minute video on their YouTube channel or when they
- 12:39made the, I think it was for Fantastic Four comics, they made
- 12:43those available to read for free.
- 12:45And Matt Shakman is a huge comic nerd.
- 12:48So and he made that very, very clear with the movie.
- 12:52But yeah, I, I like what they did.
- 12:55I, I don't think it's the best Marvel movie because, but that's
- 13:01more preference wise. I will say it's the best
- 13:05Fantastic Four movie. It just brought them to life in
- 13:10a way we've never seen before. And that all goes back to Matt
- 13:14Shockman and the cast who clearly did their research, who
- 13:18clearly wanted to bring that comic element to the characters.
- 13:24I'm just, I'm very appreciative of that.
- 13:26And I'm very happy because I, I was so nervous about Pedro
- 13:31Pascal's read. So nervous because I, I just
- 13:34wanted to read that I could hate.
- 13:36I can't hate him. I can't do it.
- 13:40But comic version of read, we will always have our beef.
- 13:45But MCU version, I love you and I, I just want what's best for
- 13:48you. But yeah, I'd say like an 8
- 13:53point 8 out of 10, maybe it's that is subject to change if I
- 13:57see the movie again. And it also changes based on the
- 13:59day. So don't take that too
- 14:01seriously. But I want to know what you guys
- 14:04thought of the movie. So you have to go in the
- 14:07comments, you have to tell me what you thought and we can talk
- 14:10about it. But make sure you are liking and
- 14:13subscribing so you don't miss any more of this content.
- 14:15Because I try to put out as much as possible because I am loving
- 14:20everything we're getting this year.
- 14:21We are eating as nerds. We have Superman, Jurassic Park,
- 14:25Jurassic World, We have Fantastic Four, we have
- 14:30Thunderbolt, we have Eyes of Wakanda, Iron Heart.
- 14:33We have so much, so much to be grateful for.
- 14:37So like I said, like and spread and have a marvelous day.
