- 0:00Speaker 1: How are you, Ryan?
- 0:02Speaker 2: Fine, thanks. Yeah, I mean, I'm flying to China tomorrow.
- 0:07Speaker 2: So I'm kind of like just in that whole phase
- 0:11Speaker 2: of just like getting everything together and dreading being on
- 0:17Speaker 2: a plane for that amount of time. But, you know,
- 0:19Speaker 2: it's fine.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It's a bit of a ways, isn't it? So you
- 0:22Speaker 1: guys are obviously from Bankribs, which welcome to Heavy Mag.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You guys are coming out to Australia very soon. With
- 0:30Speaker 1: you on your own.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, no. Thanks for having us.
- 0:34Speaker 1: So, yeah, so you say you're also being in China first,
- 0:36Speaker 1: so that's part of the first part of your tour?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's one of those things that whenever, I mean,
- 0:43Speaker 2: we haven't been to Australia for a while. You know, obviously,
- 0:49Speaker 2: you know, we had the, like, when we put the
- 0:51Speaker 2: last record out, that was 2020, and so, like, the
- 0:55Speaker 2: pandemic kind of, like, wrote off a lot of time
- 0:57Speaker 2: for that. So we didn't get a chance to come
- 0:59Speaker 2: down for that record. And we'd been in China literally
- 1:04Speaker 2: just before the pandemic started. So we haven't had a
- 1:07Speaker 2: chance to go back there either. So this is our
- 1:10Speaker 2: first time coming back to do Australia and a lot
- 1:15Speaker 2: of those Pacific dates. So we are excited about it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I mean, I'm glad to be... I don't know. I mean,
- 1:24Speaker 2: it's just... it's important to us that we go, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 2: when we put a new record out, obviously it's important
- 1:32Speaker 2: that you try and, you know, go to as many
- 1:34Speaker 2: places as possible, but I really want to go to
- 1:36Speaker 2: the places that we tend to enjoy the most, you
- 1:40Speaker 2: know what I mean? And Australia's always been one of
- 1:42Speaker 2: the places that we've, I always feel like the crowds in,
- 1:45Speaker 2: you know, the people who have played here in Australia
- 1:49Speaker 2: have always seemed to have a good sense of who
- 1:50Speaker 2: the band are, and that's like, It makes a huge difference,
- 1:54Speaker 2: you know. If you feel like, you know, the people
- 1:58Speaker 2: that show up to see you actually understand you and
- 2:00Speaker 2: get you, it makes a massive difference because that's not
- 2:02Speaker 2: always a given, you know.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, especially when you're touring, you know, other countries and,
- 2:07Speaker 1: you know, like through Europe as well, you know, it
- 2:11Speaker 1: can be just doesn't hit right or just doesn't hit
- 2:13Speaker 1: the same, I guess.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But when you're... Like, you don't know, like, especially, like,
- 2:17Speaker 2: back when we first started touring and you were, like,
- 2:20Speaker 2: dependent on, like, the traditional, like, you know, like, the
- 2:23Speaker 2: traditional press run and stuff. And you didn't know how
- 2:25Speaker 2: you were presented to people at all in certain countries.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like, you know, like, you
- 2:32Speaker 2: have certain European territories and stuff where you've been, like,
- 2:35Speaker 2: kind of, like, lumped in with part of, like, a
- 2:37Speaker 2: scene that you had, like, nothing... like nothing to do
- 2:42Speaker 2: with you know i mean so it'd feel weird it
- 2:45Speaker 2: almost felt like sometimes you're going places and doing damage
- 2:49Speaker 2: control you know i mean yeah well not control but
- 2:52Speaker 2: just like kind of like you know you you really
- 2:54Speaker 2: had to because you know you never want to see
- 2:57Speaker 2: me least or anything but it's like you don't want
- 3:00Speaker 2: to go like it's just kind of you speak in
- 3:03Speaker 2: the 2000s it was kind of weird time territories and
- 3:05Speaker 2: being lumped in with bands that you just like Well,
- 3:08Speaker 2: just because they're, like, literally just from the same country,
- 3:11Speaker 2: you know what I mean? That was the only thing
- 3:12Speaker 2: we had in common, as far as I was concerned, anyway.
- 3:15Speaker 2: But whatever, it's the way shit works, isn't it? But
- 3:21Speaker 2: having said that, yeah, I've always liked Australia for that reason.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I feel like it just makes sense down there, you
- 3:30Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, I feel like we make
- 3:32Speaker 2: sense to the audience, the audience makes sense to us,
- 3:35Speaker 2: and that makes a massive difference, so.
- 3:37Speaker 1: For sure, and it's a big, it's a huge part
- 3:39Speaker 1: of that relationship, you know, when your audience walks in
- 3:42Speaker 1: and they know and you can feel the difference. You know,
- 3:45Speaker 1: you get there in front of thousands of people and
- 3:48Speaker 1: you just feel like you're non-deaf ears. I could imagine
- 3:52Speaker 1: the frustration it would be and then to keep playing
- 3:55Speaker 1: at your best and, you know, the vibe, it adds
- 3:58Speaker 1: another challenge to it all.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's different. Obviously, like, when you've been
- 4:03Speaker 2: going for when you've done, like, a bunch of records,
- 4:06Speaker 2: like we have, it's, like, pretty... you know, it's not,
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's totally different to being a new band. And so
- 4:11Speaker 2: it's like, I don't feel that like need anymore to,
- 4:17Speaker 2: to prove myself or whatever. So now that makes stuff
- 4:22Speaker 2: definitely like the time for this record has been like
- 4:25Speaker 2: a lot more enjoyable as a result. I feel like
- 4:29Speaker 2: most of it, like, like pretty much ever I've done
- 4:31Speaker 2: on this tour, it's like, Everyone has such a good
- 4:34Speaker 2: idea of who we are now after all these years.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And it's made it a lot more enjoyable.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you've done the groundwork, so to speak. So now
- 4:44Speaker 1: you get to reap the rewards and just be a
- 4:46Speaker 1: little bit more relaxed up there. So you guys are
- 4:50Speaker 1: coming in October to Australia. How many shows are you
- 4:52Speaker 1: doing when you're out here?
- 4:53Speaker 2: I think it's far. I know we're doing.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and we're doing Perth as well so
- 5:03Speaker 2: it's always kind of like tough doing Perth because it's
- 5:06Speaker 2: so far away it is I remember doing it before
- 5:10Speaker 2: and it'd be like you'd do the show the night
- 5:13Speaker 2: before and someone would come and take you to the
- 5:15Speaker 2: airport from the show you'd fly off to Perth and
- 5:18Speaker 2: then someone would pick you up and take you to
- 5:20Speaker 2: soundcheck so it'd be brutal you.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Know but it's not that.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Way you know what I mean it's like we always
- 5:28Speaker 2: want to if we come all that way, we always
- 5:30Speaker 2: want to try and get as many shows in as possible,
- 5:32Speaker 2: you know what I mean? Like, we'd kind of, like,
- 5:37Speaker 2: sweat the promoter about it and be like, sure, there's
- 5:39Speaker 2: nowhere else where people might do this, you know what
- 5:43Speaker 2: I mean?
- 5:44Speaker 1: Yeah, no, that's nice. That's good, yeah. And the Perth Dolls,
- 5:46Speaker 1: they kind of do get a little bit missed out
- 5:48Speaker 1: sometimes because they are, it's almost like being in another country.
- 5:50Speaker 1: They're so far away, but it's good.
- 5:52Speaker 2: I had no idea it was so far away until
- 5:54Speaker 2: we got on the flight and they give you a
- 5:56Speaker 2: And it's like eight hours and you're like.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Holy shit. It's crazy. But I think, you know, the
- 6:00Speaker 1: good thing about that, I've spoke to a number of
- 6:02Speaker 1: other artists when they do the Perth shows, because they
- 6:05Speaker 1: don't always get, you know, on the bill. It's well-received. So,
- 6:08Speaker 1: you know, when you're over there and the people love it.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Look, like we grew up in, like the town that
- 6:14Speaker 2: we grew up in, in the 90s and stuff, when
- 6:17Speaker 2: we were like teenagers, never, ever got any shows at all.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So when back did come through, you really appreciated it.
- 6:23Speaker 2: And we've always like carried that far away. It's like,
- 6:28Speaker 2: I tend to enjoy, I mean, obviously it's great playing
- 6:31Speaker 2: in the big cities, but I always kind of tend
- 6:34Speaker 2: to enjoy the, you know, the smaller markets or whatever
- 6:39Speaker 2: you call it. The regionals, yeah. Yeah, exactly, the regionals.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I've always, like, had a lot of affection for that,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and I think that's just because we were regional people, so, like,
- 6:55Speaker 2: growing up.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they are. They're the good shows. Some of
- 6:59Speaker 1: the smaller ones can sometimes often be the more intimate and,
- 7:03Speaker 1: you know, if not the better sometimes when you see
- 7:07Speaker 1: bands doing their tour and they speak about it afterwards. But, yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 1: so you've got your new album as well that you're
- 7:12Speaker 1: going to be promoting. So is it different in the
- 7:16Speaker 1: sense of, you know, musical-wise to what you guys have
- 7:18Speaker 1: done before or is it similar or how would you
- 7:21Speaker 1: describe it?
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean, we never really– I don't think we ever– like, intentionally, like, say, oh,
- 7:29Speaker 2: we're going to make a record in this style, or
- 7:31Speaker 2: we're going to change, you know what I mean? It's like,
- 7:34Speaker 2: you taste fluctuate all the time, and, you know, like, fundamentally,
- 7:41Speaker 2: I think there's certain things that are in our DNA
- 7:44Speaker 2: that will always, like, kind of come out, because it's
- 7:46Speaker 2: just kind of like, that's just.
- 7:47Speaker 1: The signature sound, yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 2: No, it's just like, it's just what, it just makes
- 7:52Speaker 2: up the reason why you do it, you know what
- 7:54Speaker 2: I mean? It's just who we and so um you
- 7:58Speaker 2: know it's not like we've ever like made any like
- 8:00Speaker 2: radical like stylistic shifts as a result but um it's
- 8:07Speaker 2: i feel like there's over time it's it's like it's
- 8:12Speaker 2: taking longer and longer between records because i don't think
- 8:14Speaker 2: there's any point in us just keep churning records out
- 8:18Speaker 2: you know i mean i always want to wait until
- 8:20Speaker 2: we're excited to do it or we're like motivated to
- 8:23Speaker 2: do it. Cause if, if, if you're not excited or
- 8:25Speaker 2: motivated to do it, it's just like pulling teeth. Like
- 8:29Speaker 2: if I don't feel like writing songs, I hate writing songs.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Whereas if I'm in a phase where I'm writing, I
- 8:35Speaker 2: can't stop, you know what I mean? So it's like,
- 8:38Speaker 2: it's so different, you know? So these days we wait
- 8:41Speaker 2: until we feel like it and it, and it, and
- 8:44Speaker 2: it does take longer, um, between every record. But for
- 8:47Speaker 2: this one, just where all our heads were really was, um,
- 8:50Speaker 2: The songs that we were writing were, like, compared to
- 8:56Speaker 2: Night Network and certainly compared to the record we did
- 8:59Speaker 2: with Steve Albini beforehand, the record was much more pop-structured and,
- 9:07Speaker 2: you know, like, we were going back to... We've always
- 9:10Speaker 2: had a thing about us. You know, there's been a
- 9:13Speaker 2: couple of records where we haven't done this, but we've
- 9:14Speaker 2: always had a thing about us where we want to
- 9:16Speaker 2: trim as much fat as possible and get the songs
- 9:18Speaker 2: as lean as possible so that they're just really hooky.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And that's kind of where we were at. And, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 2: we write all the songs together in the rehearsal room
- 9:27Speaker 2: like we always have done. That's always how we do it.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Because without... I think that... that's the only way of
- 9:34Speaker 2: really having like a visceral energy, I suppose. You know
- 9:38Speaker 2: what I mean? Like, like writing all together and it
- 9:41Speaker 2: being spontaneous, like it totally changes the vibe, but the
- 9:45Speaker 2: recording process was different. The recording process was different because we'd,
- 9:50Speaker 2: in the, in the past, we don't like to spend
- 9:53Speaker 2: much time in the studio, because we spend a lot
- 9:58Speaker 2: of time getting the songs, not perfect, but we go
- 10:03Speaker 2: in when all the songs are fully written and we
- 10:08Speaker 2: know exactly what we're doing with them. like whether or
- 10:12Speaker 2: not we were in with like Steve Albini or Rico
- 10:14Speaker 2: Kasich or whoever, we always start from that place where
- 10:17Speaker 2: we just go in and we just lay the live
- 10:19Speaker 2: tracks down. And we did that.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Right.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah. This record, but Patrick who were working with these,
- 10:24Speaker 2: like generally works more with like pop and rap and
- 10:28Speaker 2: hip hop kind of guys. So it was like, we,
- 10:31Speaker 2: the live, the live tracks down. And then there was
- 10:34Speaker 2: like a long period of, you know, deconstructing them and
- 10:40Speaker 2: tweaking them. We gave him free reign to do his
- 10:45Speaker 2: more pop oriented kind of production because I found stuff
- 10:48Speaker 2: about that. And it's like, if I go in the
- 10:50Speaker 2: studio with someone now, it's like, I want to go
- 10:51Speaker 2: in with someone who brings something different. As much as
- 10:55Speaker 2: I loved recording with Steve Albini and stuff like that,
- 10:58Speaker 2: it's like, we went in with him because we knew
- 11:00Speaker 2: that we loved his sound. Whereas Patrick, that we worked
- 11:04Speaker 2: with on this record, because he's usually worked in like a,
- 11:09Speaker 2: you know, different.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah. It's completely different. Yeah.
- 11:12Speaker 2: I know it's going to be a, like, not, it's
- 11:15Speaker 2: not going to be a challenge, but there's going to
- 11:16Speaker 2: be a rub somewhere. And that's where the fun was. And,
- 11:20Speaker 2: you know, so it'd mean that there was a lot
- 11:23Speaker 2: longer spent in the studio. There was a lot longer
- 11:25Speaker 2: spent like crafting the sounds, but it ultimately, because we
- 11:31Speaker 2: came from it with, uh, um, you know, like the
- 11:35Speaker 2: songs were still written in, in this, you know, the
- 11:38Speaker 2: songs were still, there were still fundamentally live performances, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 2: you don't want to edit the humanity out or anything.
- 11:45Speaker 2: I think that, um, it just, it allowed us to
- 11:48Speaker 2: kind of like get a bit of, a bit of like, um,
- 11:52Speaker 2: you know, the best of both worlds in some ways,
- 11:54Speaker 2: because Patrick's production is very modern. And the way that
- 11:59Speaker 2: we are in the past has always been like really
- 12:02Speaker 2: old school, you know what I mean? So, it's kind
- 12:04Speaker 2: of a case of trying to marry the two things together.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And it was great. I mean, we were so happy
- 12:09Speaker 2: with this record. We've been really, really happy with how
- 12:12Speaker 2: it's been. People responded to it and tore it.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's been a good.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Period for us, you know, like we're all, um, healthier
- 12:22Speaker 2: and kind of happier than what we were a few
- 12:24Speaker 2: years ago.
- 12:25Speaker 1: With age comes wisdom and a little bit more inner peace,
- 12:28Speaker 1: I guess.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Maybe, uh, with age comes more crises and then you learn.
- 12:37Speaker 1: How to navigate.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:42Speaker 1: It's not quite so overwhelming when you're facing an adversity
- 12:46Speaker 1: in your face, you just sort of go, okay, take
- 12:49Speaker 1: it in your stride and let it all roll. But yeah, no,
- 12:51Speaker 1: that's definitely like, give me a listen before and yeah,
- 12:55Speaker 1: you guys can definitely hear like, you know, you've got
- 12:58Speaker 1: that complexity and, with all the layers that you say
- 13:01Speaker 1: that have been like deconstructed and put in. And, and
- 13:04Speaker 1: it is, it's, it's crafting. It's like, it's a work
- 13:07Speaker 1: of art in itself. You know, when you've got producers
- 13:09Speaker 1: that will work like that, it's, it really brings something
- 13:13Speaker 1: different to it because they do stuff that you don't.
- 13:15Speaker 1: And yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Well, it's something we can't do, you know what I mean?
- 13:19Speaker 2: It's like, I don't have the patience to spend all
- 13:21Speaker 2: that time. Like when we're so used to just, we're
- 13:26Speaker 2: so used to recording stuff on tape and, Doing it
- 13:29Speaker 2: all live. I wouldn't have the patience to do the
- 13:33Speaker 2: kind of stuff that Patrick does. But it's like, it
- 13:37Speaker 2: was about time that we made something contemporary, you know
- 13:40Speaker 2: what I mean? And it is contemporary as a result.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But it's the first time that I think ever that
- 13:46Speaker 2: we've actually... wanted to do that because it's like you
- 13:51Speaker 2: know in in the in the past people would always
- 13:52Speaker 2: be like this is the hot new producer the minute
- 13:55Speaker 2: you've got to go in with this guy and we'd
- 13:56Speaker 2: be like nah we just kept working with like you
- 13:59Speaker 2: know we always wanted to work with like people who
- 14:01Speaker 2: preferred more old school kind of techniques but this time
- 14:05Speaker 2: we were like like I just that's what we wanted
- 14:09Speaker 2: to do you know.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Anyway so you were saying before yeah like previously you
- 14:13Speaker 1: were like recording on like the old school like analog
- 14:16Speaker 1: tapes was it.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It's just the way that we would just always used
- 14:19Speaker 2: to do.
- 14:19Speaker 1: And it's, I mean, it sounds great. Like I did,
- 14:21Speaker 1: it's a very distinct, like you say, different sound. Um,
- 14:24Speaker 1: so that's sort of being a good challenge for yourselves
- 14:27Speaker 1: to step it up and try something new and different.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And I mean, both, both are sound incredible, but, um,
- 14:33Speaker 1: but yeah, when you've got that producer who can add
- 14:35Speaker 1: that extra bit, um, with the new, um, in doing
- 14:38Speaker 1: it off the board, it makes it a lot, um, Yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: it's different. It's not necessarily better. They're just two very
- 14:44Speaker 1: different ways.
- 14:45Speaker 2: They are different. I mean, I've always been really paranoid about, like,
- 14:49Speaker 2: you know, since people started recording on computers, it's like
- 14:53Speaker 2: they always edit out the humanity. That's always, like, the
- 14:56Speaker 2: first thing.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It can happen, yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 2: You know what I mean? And so I've always, like,
- 14:59Speaker 2: that was a big part of why I was resistant
- 15:02Speaker 2: to it. And it's the same thing with, like, you know,
- 15:05Speaker 2: even in, like, when it comes to, like, the live
- 15:08Speaker 2: show and stuff, like, we still, like, kind of going
- 15:12Speaker 2: to every show not unprepared because we've been playing together
- 15:16Speaker 2: for such a long time but like we don't know
- 15:18Speaker 2: what we're going to play or we might just play
- 15:20Speaker 2: something like off the cuff or whatever because we i
- 15:25Speaker 2: i don't want things to feel like regimented or like
- 15:29Speaker 2: a job or scripted you know yeah whether it's the
- 15:33Speaker 2: or the live show or whatever it's like you've got
- 15:37Speaker 2: to leave room for.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Like errors and oh absolutely you know i mean it's
- 15:43Speaker 3: a good thing about life is so it doesn't have
- 15:45Speaker 3: to be perfect you know i've got that room to
- 15:47Speaker 3: be messy and and it makes it that's the experience
- 15:50Speaker 3: and it's you know i think the audience definitely as
- 15:52Speaker 3: well they grab for that and you don't want to
- 15:55Speaker 3: be seeing you know these like these massive produce you
- 15:59Speaker 3: know like pop stars that are just it's scripted it's
- 16:01Speaker 3: formatted and it's like.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Cut cut cut paste copy you know every show they
- 16:06Speaker 1: do pretty much and it like you say it does
- 16:08Speaker 1: it loses that human element and that ability to you
- 16:11Speaker 1: know identify you know one show from the next and
- 16:14Speaker 1: their experience with that so yeah it's.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Not like i'm really like i don't really care what
- 16:19Speaker 2: the people are and i'm not like dogmatic about it
- 16:21Speaker 2: or anything it's just like i just want to make
- 16:25Speaker 2: sure i'm still like getting out of here you know
- 16:28Speaker 2: i mean i'm still i wouldn't I always played music
- 16:33Speaker 2: because it was just something I was doing because I
- 16:35Speaker 2: was getting a kick out of it.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun.
- 16:40Speaker 2: You don't want to sacrifice a lot for the sake
- 16:43Speaker 2: of professionalism, you know what I mean? Who gets into
- 16:46Speaker 2: it wanting to be a professional? I mean, I guess
- 16:48Speaker 2: maybe some people do. I'm not a professional musician, you
- 16:52Speaker 2: know what I mean? I didn't care about that at all.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and we always say the minute you stop having fun,
- 16:58Speaker 1: it's like when it becomes... I mean, it feels like
- 17:00Speaker 1: a real job, you know, and it's, and you lose that,
- 17:04Speaker 1: that drive and it's good that you're still having fun
- 17:06Speaker 1: and enjoying it. And, you know, that's what it's all about.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Like you say, it's famous lines where it's not about
- 17:13Speaker 1: the money, we just want to play, you know, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: that's the end of the day. It does, it transpires through.
- 17:18Speaker 1: You can really tell the artists who feel pushed and like,
- 17:22Speaker 1: you know, it's like it's laborious where if you're getting
- 17:24Speaker 1: up there and just having the time of your life,
- 17:25Speaker 1: that's what it's all about for sure. Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Yeah, as long as it doesn't feel like a job.
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the most important part. That's it, that's it.
- 17:36Speaker 1: So you guys got some local supports that are going
- 17:38Speaker 1: to be playing with you when you're out here?
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, all that stuff just got confirmed recently.
- 17:45Speaker 2: My brother did it. He listened to the bands and
- 17:49Speaker 2: checked them out. So I can't really shed much light
- 17:53Speaker 2: on it. He always does it, though, you know what
- 17:56Speaker 2: I mean?
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, nice.
- 17:58Speaker 2: He really always likes to, um, uh, you know, like
- 18:04Speaker 2: it's just, he, he gets involved in that kind of
- 18:07Speaker 2: side of it.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's good. It's good that when you get
- 18:10Speaker 1: bands that, you know, involve the local, um, you know,
- 18:12Speaker 1: outcomings and put them on and give them a platform,
- 18:15Speaker 1: it's really, it's quite integral. It's why we love bands
- 18:17Speaker 1: like yourselves that come out and do that sort of stuff.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And it's, um, it's like, you know, like if you
- 18:22Speaker 2: have like in the past, when we've gone down there
- 18:25Speaker 2: and like you have, people are like local to each town.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It's like, we get a better idea of what's going
- 18:31Speaker 2: on in the town. You know what I mean? Because
- 18:34Speaker 2: sometimes we'll go out with them like the night before
- 18:36Speaker 2: and stuff like that. And it's like, it's just nice
- 18:38Speaker 2: to know where it is that you play into because
- 18:40Speaker 2: otherwise it's really easy to get into the habit of
- 18:44Speaker 2: just seeing the hotel room, the plane and the venue
- 18:49Speaker 2: or whatever. You know what I mean? I always think
- 18:51Speaker 2: it's like for me, like a big part of, tiring
- 18:55Speaker 2: and why i enjoyed it was like getting to meet
- 18:58Speaker 2: people and see what's going on there and it's hard
- 19:04Speaker 2: to find you know it definitely helps having locals with.
- 19:07Speaker 1: You anyway yeah for sure for sure so you guys
- 19:10Speaker 1: got some um plans to spend extra time not to
- 19:13Speaker 1: we're not playing when you're out here or is it
- 19:15Speaker 1: just strictly business and then you've got scheduled more shows.
- 19:18Speaker 2: After strictly business i'm sure i honestly don't know at
- 19:25Speaker 2: the minute i'm not sure because like i said we're
- 19:26Speaker 2: gonna go to china and hong kong and ham first
- 19:31Speaker 2: it's like i'm kind of like uh just taking every
- 19:36Speaker 2: day as it comes at the minute you.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Know i mean happy to be directed yeah it's not like.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm sat down like looking at the diary and stuff
- 19:44Speaker 2: you know i'm just like I know I've got to
- 19:47Speaker 2: get on a plane tomorrow. Sometimes.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It's probably the best way to deal with it. Just
- 19:52Speaker 1: know when you have to be out of there and
- 19:54Speaker 1: in a certain place. Otherwise you can get lost in
- 19:56Speaker 1: it all, I think, and it becomes a little bit
- 19:58Speaker 1: overwhelming looking at tour schedules.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I remember, like, doing, like, especially, like, US tours. I
- 20:04Speaker 2: remember doing tours that were, like, nine weeks long and
- 20:08Speaker 2: you'd be, like, the schedule every day and it's almost
- 20:10Speaker 2: like you're willing it towards the end, you know what
- 20:14Speaker 2: I mean? And it goes on, it just feels like,
- 20:17Speaker 2: it makes it feel like it goes on forever. Whereas
- 20:20Speaker 2: if you stop looking at your tar book or your
- 20:23Speaker 2: itinerary or whatever, you know what I mean? You don't
- 20:27Speaker 2: subject yourself to that kind of like the reality of,
- 20:32Speaker 2: you know, how intense it can be at times, you know?
- 20:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 1: That's true. That's true. It's a good way to look
- 20:38Speaker 1: at it because I imagine nine-week tours in another country
- 20:42Speaker 1: would be very overwhelming by the end of it.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much for coming and having a
- 20:48Speaker 1: chat with us today, Ad Heavy. And we're looking very
- 20:52Speaker 1: much forward to seeing you guys when you come down.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Where are you going? Are you guys Melbourne?
- 20:58Speaker 1: So I'm based near Brisbane. So I'm in the border
- 21:00Speaker 1: of New South Wales. So Brisbane's my closest city. So
- 21:04Speaker 1: it's about an hour away. I live in the sunny
- 21:06Speaker 1: Gold Coast.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 21:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. So it's a nice part of the world,
- 21:12Speaker 1: very lucky, very blessed, and we get all the good
- 21:14Speaker 1: ones come down here. So it's been a great year
- 21:16Speaker 1: for music. And, yeah, and also congratulations on your new album,
- 21:20Speaker 1: which is out now. All right.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we look forward to catching you very soon.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Yeah, all right.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Thanks, Ali.
- 21:27Speaker 1: No worries. Thanks, Ryan. Bye.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Bye.
