• 0:50
Speaker 1: One of the events that we go to is really a cool event, and I couldn't encourage you enough to make reservations now to go to a thing called the Lone Star Street Rod Association State Run.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: Yes, it's a meeting, a gathering, if you will, of folks, and they've been doing it for several years now up at Granbury and we have been privileged enough to be invited to go and do our broadcast from there and it's probably one of our favorite places.
• 1:21
Speaker 1: A bunch of guys, most of them are kind of like our age Well, not all of them, but some of them and they have some very cool vehicles.
• 1:32
Speaker 1: One of those guys who apparently has weaseled his way into some higher up kind of category there I see a grin on his face.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: I don't know whether he's the president or, you know, the chief potentate.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: I don't know what he is.
• 1:52
Speaker 3: Yeah, but his name is.
• 1:53
Speaker 3: I can tell you what he is he's a fireman.
• 1:56
  Speaker 1: He's a fireman.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: And his name is Jackie Hanson and Jackie, it's good to see you, my friend, we can see you.
• 2:02
Speaker 4: There, you go there, you got it.
• 2:05
  Speaker 1: Do what?
• 2:05
  Speaker 1: Are you?
• 2:08
Speaker 1: Traveling down the Well?
• 2:09
Speaker 1: It's good to see you too.
• 2:10
Speaker 1: Are you parked next to a cow pasture out there?
• 2:13
  Speaker 1: Uh-oh, he can't hear us, it's frozen.
• 2:20
Speaker 3: He's out there in the middle.
• 2:21
Speaker 3: Let's go back to this.
• 2:22
Speaker 1: He's back there out in the middle of nowhere.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: Mr Mars, you're going to have to work on getting him all fixed up there, because we can't.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: Jackie, we can't hear you and you're freezing up and all that you need to get out of the damn car.
• 2:33
Speaker 1: Next year is the 50th anniversary, isn't it?
• 2:35
  Speaker 4: I don't know.
• 2:35
  Speaker 4: Yes, it is.
• 2:36
  Speaker 4: It's the 50th.
• 2:37
  Speaker 1: It's the 50th anniversary.
• 2:38
Speaker 1: Have we been invited?
• 2:40
  Speaker 3: Yes, we have.
• 2:41
Speaker 3: Yes, and it's the 50th anniversary of the state run COVID.
• 2:44
Speaker 3: They had to skip a year in COVID, right, right.
• 2:46
Speaker 3: So their organization is actually 51, but it's the 50th, okay, and I've got to find a phone number Mike's working on getting them back All right, mike's going to work on getting them back, anyway.
• 2:58
Speaker 1: So very cool cars, most of which are actually driven to the event, of which are actually driven to the event, and there is a limit on the age of the car there, so you can't bring your 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia, that won't fly.
• 3:18
Speaker 1: But lots of classics, a lot of restomods let's underscore restomods because I think that those are the cars and I actually have.
• 3:24
  Speaker 1: Of Restomods.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: That's underscore Restomods Because I think that those are the cars and I actually have a Restomod.
• 3:28
Speaker 1: My Corvette is a Restomod because it's got stuff on there that the car didn't come with.
• 3:32
Speaker 1: It's got a spoiler on the back that doesn't go with your model.
• 3:35
Speaker 1: It's got the shifters and the wheels and all that stuff.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: So mine's a Restomod too, but not to the point where these guys have put tens of thousands of dollars new LS engines in a car that came with some six-cylinder in it back in the day.
• 3:52
Speaker 4: It's a straight line Straight line six.
• 3:54
Speaker 1: Not that there's anything wrong with that.
• 3:55
  Speaker 1: I love those.
• 3:57
Speaker 4: But not only the car show, but the city of Granbury itself, the town of Granbury.
• 4:00
  Speaker 4: It's very cool.
• 4:01
Speaker 4: It's good for you know you take your wives, your girlfriends, your spouses up there.
• 4:07
Speaker 3: There's things to do all over the place.
• 4:07
Speaker 3: Don't take them both at the same time.
• 4:08
Speaker 4: Yeah, don't do that.
• 4:09
Speaker 4: Not only that, but getting there, because you've got to go through all the Texas towns either direction.
• 4:13
Speaker 4: Coming in north, south, east, west to get there is very, very nice.
• 4:18
  Speaker 4: It's relaxing.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: You can stop I will tell you there is a town going from south to north kind of through the hill country on up north toward Granbury, called Yoakum.
• 4:30
Speaker 1: If you ever get a chance to drive through Yoakum, texas, I promise you you will love Yoakum, texas.
• 4:38
Speaker 1: A small town, it's got the little town square, it's got the grade school out just on the edge of town.
• 4:47
Speaker 1: It's got the little town square, it's got the grade school out just on the edge of town and it is just truly a wonderful place.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: And Granbury is like that.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: Granbury is kind of like Dallas-Fort Worth's getaway place.
• 4:59
Speaker 1: It's the weekend place instead of going to Lake Conroe, which is now part of Houston.
• 5:04
  Speaker 1: Really.
• 5:04
Speaker 1: This is Lake Granbury and it's just absolutely wonderful to go to.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: And I don't want to oversell it because you know you say, ooh, there's one of them in Texas town.
• 5:14
Speaker 4: I don't care but it really is.
• 5:16
Speaker 1: It's a fun place to visit.
• 5:17
Speaker 1: Do we have him now?
• 5:18
Speaker 1: Well, if he doesn't move, jackie, don't move, don't move your lips, Don't move his lips.
• 5:28
Speaker 3: Can we hear you now Talk?
• 5:28
  Speaker 3: No, he's muted.
• 5:29
Speaker 3: He muted himself again.
• 5:31
Speaker 3: He muted yourself again.
• 5:32
Speaker 4: Jackie, hold the sign up Muted.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: Muted Alright, Well, at any rate.
• 5:36
Speaker 1: So they've got some big.
• 5:37
Speaker 1: Let me work on that.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: Okay, you work on that.
• 5:40
Speaker 4: He's waving at you.
• 5:43
Speaker 1: They're up there for some sort of big cavalry meeting with the.
• 5:47
  Speaker 4: Lone.
• 5:47
Speaker 1: Star Street Reg Association.
• 5:49
Speaker 1: Yeah, where are we going to put those idiots with that car show this year?
• 5:53
Speaker 1: Are we going to put them over there underneath the picnic table?
• 5:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, let's do that?
• 5:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, that's our spot.
• 5:59
Speaker 1: Well, it is our spot, that's our spot, and I think that it worked out really well last year because we did away with the backdrop and we had the cars as the backdrop.
• 6:08
Speaker 3: As the backdrop, and I like that yeah.
• 6:11
Speaker 1: I hate to see our backdrop.
• 6:12
Speaker 1: If we got all these cars, the cars ought to be the backdrop.
• 6:15
  Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely.
• 6:17
Speaker 4: The people and the cars, yeah, and there's plenty of places to eat around there.
• 6:21
  Speaker 4: It's a big park, there's a lake, it's a 23-mile distance.
• 6:26
Speaker 4: It's a long way, it's a long skinny lake yeah, homes on the shores and they have lake tours.
• 6:32
Speaker 1: Get on a boat and go on a lake tour.
• 6:33
Speaker 1: You can also do dinner on the lake.
• 6:35
Speaker 1: They got a boat that you can get on there and eat while you're going up and down the lake.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: I haven't done that yet, no.
• 6:41
Speaker 4: Maybe next year let's do that, and you know we actually need to spend another day.
• 6:45
Speaker 4: We really do, we do.
• 6:47
Speaker 1: We need to spend another day.
• 6:48
Speaker 1: Last year I kind of coupled it with my vacation.
• 6:50
Speaker 1: Right, Well, yeah that year was different because you did do that yeah.
• 6:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, I flew into DFW Airport on the Friday, then drove from DFW down to Granbury for our Saturday show.
• 7:01
Speaker 1: Granberry for our Saturday show.
• 7:02
Speaker 1: Well, you actually flew to Denver.
• 7:03
Speaker 1: You spent time with your daughter.
• 7:04
  Speaker 4: Correct, that's what I'm saying.
• 7:06
Speaker 1: And so on the way back, that's where we stopped, left the car at DFW and I'll tell you what getting out of DFW airport, you think it's bad here at Houston, oh my god, no DFW.
• 7:20
Speaker 1: I remember, actually as a thank you, mike, as a guy that was in the media back in the day this is about 1972, dfw had a big media event on the grand opening of DFW Airport and me and my buddy, hal Eisner, who's been a reporter out in Los Angeles for decades now.
• 7:44
  Speaker 1: He's well-known out there.
• 7:46
Speaker 1: He works for the Fox station out there in LA.
• 7:49
Speaker 1: He and I went and we had an absolute blast.
• 7:54
Speaker 1: And there was a guy from Beaumont, jack Piper, and for those people that are listening in Beaumont, everybody knows who Jack Piper is.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: He's retired now but a great broadcaster, great news guy, and so we all kind of hung out together up there.
• 8:10
Speaker 1: But that was 72, 73, somewhere in there.
• 8:13
Speaker 1: It was out in the country, it was even in the country.
• 8:17
Speaker 1: This was in another country out there at the time, but now Dallas and Fort Worth have kind of closed in on it.
• 8:25
Speaker 4: Yeah, and Granbury is about 40 minutes southwest of Fort Worth, something like that Roughly.
• 8:30
Speaker 1: Well, not that day that we drove down there.
• 8:33
Speaker 1: No, not that day, because that was a Friday and everybody was trying to get out of town, headed to Granbury, so we got caught up in all that traffic.
• 8:38
Speaker 1: But you know it's a circus to get there, as it is most places these days.
• 8:43
Speaker 1: How are we doing with that?
• 8:44
Speaker 1: I got a feeling that he's not going to work out for us.
• 8:47
Speaker 1: Uh-oh, he should be right there, Okay.
• 8:51
Speaker 1: Well, why don't you put your headset on so you can?
• 8:54
Speaker 4: hear us Pod him up.
• 8:54
Speaker 4: All right, he's going to do audio.
• 8:57
Speaker 1: Jackie, can we hear you now?
• 9:00
Speaker 3: Jackie, I hear you, I hear you.
• 9:03
Speaker 3: Yeah, you need to hang up your iPad.
• 9:05
Speaker 3: You got an echo going dude.
• 9:07
Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on.
• 9:10
Speaker 1: You know, working with old people and technology is enough to make anybody pull out their hair.
• 9:17
Speaker 3: Pull out their hair.
• 9:18
Speaker 3: Watch it, watch it I remember I'll tell you what I'm going to hang up.
• 9:23
Speaker 2: Watch that old people thing.
• 9:25
Speaker 2: I remember seeing a post by one of you guys the other night about drinking Boone's Farm.
• 9:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, that would be me, I didn't say any names I know but I proudly admitted that in the confessional that it was Boone's Farm and it was my buddy at Richardson, at richardson chevrolet, and he needed a ride home.
• 9:49
Speaker 1: He lived down in the third ward and I had mom's buick and it was a relatively new buick and it was all washed up always and I said, stan, I'll be more than happy well, I'm glad you made it safely.
• 9:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, I made it down there safely.
• 10:01
Speaker 1: I don't know how I made it home.
• 10:02
Speaker 1: I made it down there safely.
• 10:04
Speaker 1: I don't know how I made it home Because Stan treated me his way of thanking me for taking him home that day with a bottle of ice cold Boone's Farm, and he had one and I had one.
• 10:17
Speaker 1: I had no clue.
• 10:18
Speaker 2: I'd never drank it before in my life.
• 10:19
Speaker 1: The whole damn bottle.
• 10:20
Speaker 1: It was pretty darned ugly, but you know what it was.
• 10:25
Speaker 1: A memory, well, part memory.
• 10:27
Speaker 1: I remember drinking it, but I don't know how I got home.
• 10:30
Speaker 1: But that's beside the point.
• 10:31
Speaker 1: Anyway, jackie, it's good to talk to you.
• 10:35
Speaker 1: We don't have your picture up, but at least we can hear you.
• 10:36
Speaker 1: So we're just going to go with that, that's fine, so let's talk about Lone Star.
• 10:42
  Speaker 2: Go ahead.
• 10:42
Speaker 2: I am actually 40 miles from Granbury, fixed to be there for our summer meeting to discuss the goods and the bads of 2024 event there are no bads and then discuss.
• 10:59
  Speaker 1: There's a few, okay, well.
• 11:02
Speaker 2: So are you on the board of?
• 11:03
  Speaker 1: directors.
• 11:06
Speaker 2: I am the South Texas director, which means that my territory starts in Corpus and it cuts all the way across to Texas, to Texarkana, and everything south of that line is mine.
• 11:28
Speaker 1: Texarkana is at the border by Arkansas, sir, so I don't quite exactly understand the South Texas designation to that, because that ain't South.
• 11:37
Speaker 2: Well, you know, if you start in Corpus and you go all the way to Texarkana, you know, draw a line across Texas, everything in that area East, saying from in that area east uh, beaumont, corpus, victoria, uh, eiler ennis, I'm, I'm, I'm the man, the myth and the legend.
• 12:02
Speaker 1: Yes, I was just gonna say yes, you are all of that and more.
• 12:04
Speaker 1: Uh, we're showing some video of lone star street rod Rod Association.
• 12:08
Speaker 1: So the big meet there in Granbury that we all attended this past was it May June.
• 12:16
Speaker 2: Second weekend of June.
• 12:17
  Speaker 2: Yes, sir, May.
• 12:18
  Speaker 1: Oh no in.
• 12:19
Speaker 2: May, second weekend of June Always the second weekend of June Got it.
• 12:23
Speaker 1: Well, good time was to be had by all.
• 12:25
Speaker 1: So anything special you guys are doing for this upcoming event in 2025?
• 12:32
Speaker 2: Well, we're really going all out.
• 12:35
Speaker 2: You did mention a while ago about the year model.
• 12:37
Speaker 2: We've upped the year model to the cars to a rolling 25 years, so we'll be adding.
• 12:45
Speaker 2: Used to be our.
• 12:46
Speaker 2: If you had a car that was a 73 or 74, you couldn't come.
• 12:50
Speaker 2: But we're realizing that.
• 12:54
Speaker 2: And one of y'all mentioned age.
• 12:56
Speaker 2: Yeah, we're getting old and the cars are getting older, so we're trying to broaden our horizon of newer people it's probably in their 40s and 50s instead of 60s and 70s and actually bringing some young guns.
• 13:14
Speaker 2: And so, tammy Dooley, in the city of Granbury, we're going to go all out for the 50th.
• 13:20
Speaker 2: You know last year's event.
• 13:24
Speaker 2: Well, we were formed in 74.
• 13:26
Speaker 2: Sixteen guys got together and said, hey, let's do this.
• 13:30
Speaker 2: And, uh, they had an, they had a vision to start a car club.
• 13:37
Speaker 2: It wasn't just a local club and you know the the city they were in, it was a state event.
• 13:43
Speaker 2: And just have a family affair.
• 13:45
Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's what we've developed into now just a great weekend.
• 13:50
Speaker 2: It's kind of like two things.
• 13:51
Speaker 2: We look at it this way Either a family reunion your aunts, your uncles, your cousins, your nieces, your nephews, ex-wives or it's just like a company Ex-wives yeah.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: Because they probably own half the cars now that they're ex-wives.
• 14:09
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing about me having two cars I can give her.
• 14:12
Speaker 2: I'm actually having three cars.
• 14:15
Speaker 2: I can give her the two I don't like and I get to keep the other ones.
• 14:18
Speaker 1: There you go, all right.
• 14:27
Speaker 2: So what is the cutoff on the car year?
• 14:28
Speaker 2: Oh, you would have to ask that while I'm driving down the road.
• 14:30
Speaker 2: Just take 2024 and back up 35 years.
• 14:34
  Speaker 2: So it's Okay.
• 14:37
Speaker 2: I think about a 1994, because isn't it 30 years, Jackie 94, 94, yeah, so if you have a car older than 94, you're welcome to come.
• 14:48
Speaker 1: And if you don't have a car older than 94, you can come and look or go buy one.
• 14:53
Speaker 2: You can still come and look.
• 14:54
Speaker 1: Yeah, because I would imagine that you know if you bring.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: Go ahead, go ahead.
• 15:00
Speaker 1: I'm sorry I was going to say because I'll bet you, you know, as a car guy, you know as well as I do everything's for sale.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: It just depends on how much you're willing to pay.
• 15:17
Speaker 1: And uh, yeah, sure, and so, um, I'm thinking this year something different for me, thinking about bringing the 2001 corvette not to enter it into any kind of competition there at the state run, but at least it'll be a nice ride to take up there.
• 15:30
Speaker 1: Something different for me from in the past.
• 15:33
Speaker 3: Take it out and stretch its legs a little bit.
• 15:34
  Speaker 3: There you go.
• 15:37
Speaker 2: You're welcome to bring it, because I will personally invite you to attend the I guess we're going to call it a rod run.
• 15:47
Speaker 2: At 1 o'clock on Saturday, we get together with the police-escorted ride and we go to several assisted living centers in Granbury.
• 15:57
Speaker 2: There you go and the people who can't get out.
• 15:59
Speaker 2: The people who can't get out, you know the health reasons, or you know medical reasons or whatever.
• 16:05
Speaker 1: They get the car show brought to them.
• 16:07
Speaker 2: They get the car show brought to them.
• 16:09
Speaker 2: It's police escorted to the city.
• 16:11
Speaker 2: You know, it's just a great event for everybody.
• 16:15
Speaker 1: We need to get the dang fire department involved in that and at least get a pumper out there or something.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: Well, I'm not going to you know me being a fireman guy Two years ago we had a great fire truck, an antique fire truck, come out there, and We've got.
• 16:31
Speaker 2: Two years ago we had a great fire truck, an antique fire truck, come out there, and then this year something happened with the fire department and I don't know if it's logistics or whatever.
• 16:39
Speaker 2: They didn't get to bring the fire truck out there.
• 16:42
Speaker 2: They did participate, they did pick out a car that they liked as their favorite.
• 16:46
Speaker 2: They just didn't get to bring the fire truck.
• 16:49
Speaker 2: And so if you do come and you bring your kiddos, you know they had all kinds of coloring books and fire safety things for the kids, and so it made it more of a family event.
• 17:02
Speaker 2: You know, for something, you know it's an old car or whatever.
• 17:06
Speaker 2: So we had a great time with the fire department and the police department.
• 17:14
Speaker 1: And then last, year the sheriff's department was there.
• 17:16
Speaker 1: We need to take the cruise on the way back from the old folks' home.
• 17:19
Speaker 1: We need to take it through the police and fire department parking lots.
• 17:22
Speaker 1: Just roll through there you go.
• 17:26
  Speaker 2: Yeah, you know I don't.
• 17:27
Speaker 2: You have to realize that old cars get hot easy.
• 17:32
Speaker 1: Well, I'm familiar with that.
• 17:33
Speaker 1: I'm having hot flashes.
• 17:35
Speaker 1: Right now he is.
• 17:36
Speaker 1: He's talking to me.
• 17:36
Speaker 3: Well, but the thing is, Jackie Don's not used to being around all them flashing lights unless he's the center of attention.
• 17:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, in the back seat.
• 17:44
Speaker 4: When you said police escort, everybody cringed yeah.
• 17:47
Speaker 1: Exactly when you said police escort, everybody cringed yeah, exactly so it's Lone Star Street Rot L-S-S-R-A dot com and Facebook page and all that Facebook page.
• 17:58
Speaker 2: Yes, sir, and we have a great Facebook page and it's a great event to have there in Granbury.
• 18:04
Speaker 2: This will be our 50th event.
• 18:06
Speaker 2: Yep, the city of Granbury rolls out.
• 18:12
Speaker 2: You hear people say, well, we're going to roll out the red carpet for you.
• 18:15
Speaker 2: The Visitors Bureau there in Granbury rolls out the plush red carpet.
• 18:18
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean, it's just a fantastic event.
• 18:21
