- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. It's Wednesday.
- 0:15It's the 18th of February. I've noticed I'm quite lazy when
- 0:19I say that February, February, it is the 18th of February and
- 0:24it's great to have your company on this middle of the week where
- 0:28we have been enjoying the book of Hosea.
- 0:30Isn't it great to have an Old Testament prophet that is just
- 0:33so clear? It's like, it's like a kid
- 0:36sermon, right? It's this object lesson with
- 0:38something really concrete that you can just understand.
- 0:42So clearly you probably can't get up in front of church and do
- 0:45a kids sermon about, you know, a prostitute having children to
- 0:48her clients and God being faithful even though she is
- 0:52unfaithful to her husband. But it sure works well in this
- 0:56little book of minor prophecy. And we will continue on this on
- 1:01this journey today beautifully. The other thing, friends, that
- 1:05I'll tell you about that's happening in World of Sean is
- 1:08today is the day that I go away on a few days of retreat before
- 1:13this weekend, at which time I will be ordained as a priest in
- 1:18the Anglican Church of Tasmania, which is just wild and
- 1:22wonderful. I was ordained as a Deacon a
- 1:23couple of years ago, and this is the next step as God has been
- 1:27messing with my life, inviting me deeper into a world of
- 1:31ministry where I can serve Him more.
- 1:33So what an amazing thing. And I am just so grateful that
- 1:37you friends come along with me. And no matter what goes down,
- 1:41you and I will continue to read God's word each day and we'll do
- 1:45just that. And today is a really short
- 1:47reading. It's only 5 verses long.
- 1:50And it's Hosea's wife being redeemed, which is beautiful.
- 1:54And this, this can speak to each of us and how God redeems us.
- 1:58Holy Spirit, may we see ourselves and the truth of who
- 2:03you are to us as we read this passage today.
- 2:06All right, friends, let's read together Hosea chapter 3.
- 2:22Then the Lord said to me, go and love your wife again, even
- 2:28though she commits adultery with another lover.
- 2:31This will illustrate that the Lord still loves Israel, even
- 2:35though the people have turned to other gods and loved to worship
- 2:38them. So I bought her back for 15
- 2:42pieces of silver and five bushels of barley and a measure
- 2:46of wine. Then I said to her, You must
- 2:50live in my house for many days and stop your prostitution.
- 2:56During this time you will not have sexual relations with
- 2:59anyone, not even with me. This shows that Israel will go a
- 3:04long time without a king or Prince and without sacrifices,
- 3:08sacred pillars, priests, or even idols.
- 3:12But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to
- 3:16the Lord their God and to David's descendant, their king.
- 3:21In the last days they will tremble in awe of the Lord and
- 3:27of His goodness. Oh Lord, you make it your
- 3:40business to redeem your people. That is who You are.
- 3:45And So what can we do other than tremble in awe at Your profound
- 3:52and almighty goodness? We just cannot wrap our heads
- 3:58around it. Lord, how good You are to us.
- 4:03As deep as the oceans are, that does not touch the magnificence
- 4:08of Your goodness to us. As high as the heavens are, as
- 4:13far as the east is from the West, that does not begin to
- 4:17describe the unfathomable bounty of Your goodness.
- 4:24So instead, we don't try and understand it.
- 4:28We simply tremble in awe of Your goodness.
- 4:33Ah, we love you and we are in awe of You, and we pray this in
- 4:39the awesome name of Jesus, our good, good Saviour.
- 4:45Amen.
