- 0:00Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your
- 0:08weekday roundup of overnight headlines and what's
- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Friday,
- 0:16October 23rd, 2026. Let's get you caught up.
- 0:20A Sacramento County Sheriff's investigation is
- 0:22underway after an officer -involved shooting
- 0:24involving Citrus Heights Police Thursday afternoon.
- 0:28According to the sheriff's office, the incident
- 0:30began just before noon when the California Highway
- 0:32Patrol officer had a suspect at gunpoint. The
- 0:37situation developed into a vehicle pursuit involving
- 0:39two CHP vehicles and a Citrus Heights police
- 0:42vehicle. A Sacramento County Sheriff's deputy
- 0:45observed the pursuit traveling eastbound on Business
- 0:4880 near El Camino Avenue, but did not join in.
- 0:51The pursuit eventually ended on Fulton Avenue,
- 0:54just north of Michelle Drive, where authorities
- 0:57say the suspect got out of his vehicle armed
- 0:59with a knife. Officers repeatedly ordered him
- 1:03to drop the weapon. A sheriff's deputy prepared
- 1:05a less lethal shotgun while Citrus Heights officers
- 1:09deployed a taser. But authorities say the taser
- 1:13was ineffective. Investigators say the suspect
- 1:15then charged towards the officer while still
- 1:18holding the knife. The sheriff's deputy fired
- 1:21one less lethal round, striking him in the chest.
- 1:24When the suspect continued advancing, two Citrus
- 1:27Heights officers fired their duty weapons. Officers
- 1:31immediately began providing medical aid. The
- 1:34suspect was taken to a local hospital and was
- 1:37listed in stable condition. His knife was recovered
- 1:40at the scene. No deputies or officers were injured.
- 1:44The Sacramento Sheriff's Office says neither
- 1:47of the deputies, nor the CHP officers fired their
- 1:51duty weapons. Sacramento County Sheriff's Homicide
- 1:54Bureau is leading the investigation and the Sacramento
- 1:57County District Attorney's Office will conduct
- 1:59an independent review. Now for your Friday's
