Transcript
- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:11through Thursday. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner,
- 0:14the founder of the youth digital media brand Centennial World.
- 0:18Welcome back to Mini Scroll, everyone.
- 0:20Happy Monday. I'm going to be honest, I have
- 0:22been kind of in the trenches since South by Southwest.
- 0:26Last week was just so intense and I really just needed like a
- 0:31couple of days to decompress and be relatively offline.
- 0:36But I still have 4 stories for you guys today because we over
- 0:43deliver here at Centennial World.
- 0:46OK, The first story that I have for you guys is I wanted to talk
- 0:50about a new TikTok trend that I feel like is super new, really
- 0:54relevant for you guys to jump on, whether you're an aspiring
- 0:56creator, a user that just likes to post on TikTok or brand.
- 1:00So it's called like the subtle foreshadowing trend.
- 1:02It's been around for like maybe a week, a week and 1/2 at most.
- 1:07It involves showing a fail, a mishap or blooper and splicing
- 1:12the ending. Throughout the video.
- 1:14So many creators and celebrities have joined in, like Olivia
- 1:17Rodrigo, who edited her fall during a Melbourne show last
- 1:21week using the subtle foreshadowing format Callum
- 1:24Booth writes for Forbes Quote. As most memes or TikTok trends,
- 1:27though, the subtle foreshadowing fad is more than a cheap laugh.
- 1:30It's a way of reinterpreting media and is a reflection of how
- 1:34the Internet has shaped a new generation.
- 1:36These videos are a reflection of how younger people view the
- 1:39world, one that is layered in irony and doesn't have a
- 1:42traditional narrative. So I think there is scope for
- 1:44brands to jump in on this trend, especially those creating
- 1:47employee generated content for TikTok.
- 1:49I think tapping into this trend would be easy if you're editing
- 1:52like bloopers from TikTok videos or like me, I could edit one of
- 1:57me messing up on the podcast, which I do every 5 seconds.
- 2:02So yeah, I feel like there's a lot of scope there for brands to
- 2:05kind of be self aware. Like that's one of the biggest
- 2:09pieces of advice that I give our clients when they're trying to
- 2:11figure out their TikTok strategy is I'm like authenticity really
- 2:15at the end of the day, it doesn't mean relatability in the
- 2:18way that I think we often use those words interchangeably.
- 2:21You can still have an aspirational brand, an
- 2:24aspirational personal brand. It doesn't necessarily need to
- 2:28be relatable, but as long as it is like self aware, which I
- 2:32think is kind of a weird word to use for like a brand, but you
- 2:34know what I mean, then it will hit.
- 2:37So this is a good TikTok trend. I feel like brands can jump on
- 2:41to show that they are self aware and it's funny and it's
- 2:45harmless. OK, the next story that I have
- 2:48for you guys is Aspen Ovard and Tart seem to be collaborating
- 2:53again. So obviously we've been covering
- 2:55Aspen Ovard extensively since she started opening up more and
- 2:59sharing more content about her divorce.
- 3:01And now Tart seems to be jumping on her momentum by collaborating
- 3:05with her. So Aspen and Tart previously
- 3:07collaborated. In 2018, they released the Aspen
- 3:12Over Cheek and Eye Palette. Rumors started circulating about
- 3:16another collab when Aspen posted a Get Ready with Me TikTok for
- 3:19the era's tour as she was attending with the brand.
- 3:22In the video, she called herself and quote OG fan of tarts and
- 3:25spoke about the palette and added text reading quote subtle
- 3:28foreshadowing over the video. Then a commenter wrote
- 3:32foreshadowing a new Aspen X Tart palette and then the tart
- 3:36founder Slash CEO Maureen Kelly made a video with Aspen
- 3:39showcasing the palette. Aspen has since shared her own
- 3:43video holding up up this palette.
- 3:45So there's still not a ton of information about this palette.
- 3:48It's unclear if this is a re release of her original palette
- 3:51or if it's a brand new palette. I personally believe it's a re
- 3:54release from everything we've seen.
- 3:55The packaging is different, but I think it will be like the same
- 3:58palette because if you zoom in, it does seem to also be called
- 4:02the cheek and eye palette. And then the last little Aspen
- 4:05like kind of tidbit update that I wanted to share is there is
- 4:08this new rumor circulating. So we all know that Aspen's been
- 4:13talking about her mother-in-law. And that's been like a big part
- 4:15of this like divorce narrative. And it has seemed like her
- 4:18mother-in-law has something to do with her divorce, like with
- 4:23the reason why she wanted to divorce Parker.
- 4:25And we know there's like this 10 year lie that everyone knew
- 4:28except for her. And it seems like her
- 4:30mother-in-law knew or was involved somehow.
- 4:33And she has mentioned her mother-in-law several different
- 4:35times in several different videos throughout this process.
- 4:38OK, the new theory is that there is this one, like, very active
- 4:44person in her snark Reddit, who apparently for years has been
- 4:47leaking very personal information about Aspen.
- 4:51And the new theory on TikTok amongst her fans is that Aspen
- 4:56found out that that person is her mother-in-law.
- 4:59I don't think there's any validity to those claims.
- 5:01I think it is just a fan theory. But I did want to share it
- 5:04because it is kind of going viral everywhere.
- 5:06And I also wanted to let you guys know if you hear that, that
- 5:09this is just a rumor. But yeah, if that was the case,
- 5:13that would be pretty wild. But I also don't think we will
- 5:15ever know that. I don't think we will ever find
- 5:19that out. OK, the next story that I have
- 5:21for you guys is that Rosanna Pansino seemingly found mold
- 5:27when she tested out Mr. Beast and Logan Paul and KSI's new
- 5:31brand Lunchley. In a recent video for her
- 5:33YouTube channel, Rosanna Pansino reviewed Lunchley, which is the
- 5:37joint project between KSI, Logan Paul, and Mr. Beast.
- 5:40Lunchley is intended to be a lunch snack for kids for
- 5:43contacts. Rosanna participated in one of
- 5:45Mr. Beast's creator Games competition shows and ever since
- 5:48then she has been speaking out against the creator.
- 5:51She first shared content exposing Mr. Beast's Creator
- 5:54Games competition, saying that Mister Beast edited her out of
- 5:57the video early, revealing that she had actually finished in 3rd
- 6:01place. She was also one of the first
- 6:02people to share stories from Beast game contestants.
- 6:05From Jimmy, who is Mr. Beast's real name.
- 6:07That's his real name, his Amazon show.
- 6:10So basically, contestants started reaching out to her with
- 6:13how they were being mistreated because she had spoken up
- 6:15against Mr. Beast in the past. So it's clear that Rosanna
- 6:19definitely is not a big fan of Mr. Beast.
- 6:21But with that being said, when she reviewed Lunch Leaf for her
- 6:24channel, she opened the snack kit and she did seemingly find
- 6:28mold all over the cheese. These are molded.
- 6:31OK, so these ones are supposed to be good until December and we
- 6:36just got them from the store. This is used by December 8th,
- 6:402024 and today's date is October 16th.
- 6:45So these are supposed to be good for like another two months.
- 6:48This is molded. That's mold.
- 6:51Rosanna went on to speculate why it may have got moldy so
- 6:55quickly. She said she thinks it's the
- 6:58result of the packaging. I don't know if this is an issue
- 7:00with the recipe development or the packaging.
- 7:02I think it's a packaging issue. The sealant here feels really
- 7:06cheap, like whatever is holding this on the top is not vacuum
- 7:09tight. She was talking about the lid.
- 7:12Basically, it's not a lid. It's like foil.
- 7:14That kind of covers lunch Lee. Unfortunately, Rosanna isn't the
- 7:18first one to find mold in her lunch Lee.
- 7:20Apparently, a TikTok video unboxing a moldy Lunch Lee has
- 7:24racked up over 8 million views, with the user at AU38A
- 7:28captioning it. I like my cheese moldy bra,
- 7:32which is now a trending phrase on the app.
- 7:34This is a huge mishap if this is all true.
- 7:39And I get I like, I do believe it.
- 7:41I don't think that Rosanna's, you know, like a liar.
- 7:43And I don't think that people who are finding mold are liars.
- 7:46You know, I think we've learned our lesson from Jaclyn Hill with
- 7:50her lipsticks. You know, when people say
- 7:51something's contaminated from an influencer, usually it is.
- 7:54But this is a huge, huge issue and these are three giant
- 8:01creators and I really am so interested to see if any of
- 8:06them, especially Mr. Beast, address this.
- 8:09OK, the last story that I have for you guys is I need to
- 8:12quickly cover what happened at the LA Sweat Tour with Brittany
- 8:15Broski and the Apple Dance. There's not much to say about
- 8:19this story other than it's basically just gone insanely
- 8:21viral. So Charli XCX and Troy Sivan's
- 8:24LA Sweat Tour shows have been very eventful to say the least.
- 8:27For those not on that side of TikTok, during Charlie's song
- 8:30Apple, the camera pans to the crowd to show fans doing the
- 8:33iconic TikTok Apple dance. At the second LA show, Brittany
- 8:37Broski's group was picked and the clip blew up because she was
- 8:40shoved out of frame by a man who basically just like stared down
- 8:45the camera. Reactions have been mixed.
- 8:47Many are upset that she was pushed, calling it rude and
- 8:50saying like that's just not concert etiquette.
- 8:53Others, especially those who aren't fans of Britney, found it
- 8:56funny. While Britney can be a
- 8:58polarizing figure online for sure, the situation has left
- 9:01many people discussing how concert etiquette has changed
- 9:04over the years, especially in light of last year when videos
- 9:07went viral of people throwing things on stage and hurting
- 9:10celebrities. I don't know if you guys
- 9:12remember that, but people were like chucking shit on stage and
- 9:14like, it was like for TikTok, like it was like a viral moment.
- 9:17People are comparing this situation with Britney to
- 9:20another concert, another Charlie XCX concert with the Apple Dance
- 9:24where the dance's creator, Kelly, they'd like the camera
- 9:28was on her because she created the dance.
- 9:30And then another concert goer kind of like took the spotlight,
- 9:34like pushed her out of the way or came and I forget.
- 9:36No, no, no, she didn't push her out of the way.
- 9:37She came in and did it with her. I think it was it was just, she
- 9:40just clearly didn't realize who Kelly was.
- 9:42But beyond the Brittany Broski debacle, the LA Sweat tour shows
- 9:45have gone viral thanks to an appearance by Vinnie Hacker.
- 9:49We have not talked about Vinnie Hacker in like 4 years on this
- 9:52podcast. So during Troye Sivan's
- 9:55performance of one of your girls, he brought Vinny on stage
- 9:59to serenade and dance on him. So Kesha and Tate McRae were the
- 10:04special guests for the show before.
- 10:06Some people were kind of like upset that Vinny was the one who
- 10:10was like the special guest and Vinny actually tweeted saying
- 10:13sorry you guys didn't get a better guest.
- 10:15But I tried my hardest regardless it was fun and the
- 10:19crowd was amazing. And on the Brittany Broski Apple
- 10:23dance situation and I saw a TikTok that I completely agree
- 10:26with someone was like, regardless of all of the
- 10:31cultural significance that we, you know, all the discourse that
- 10:34we're having around this clip and what we think it means for
- 10:37concert etiquette and just bigger cultural conversations.
- 10:40At the end of the day, it is just so clear that this man was
- 10:44on copious amounts of drugs and did not realize what was
- 10:47happening or what he was doing. And if you watch the video,
- 10:51you'll probably agree with that. But yeah, guys, that is it for
- 10:55the stories for today. Thank you guys so much for
- 10:58listening. I love you guys.
- 10:59Please write, review and subscribe.

- 11:12to you tomorrow and hopefully I'll be a little bit less like
- 11:15chaotic. I feel like today was unwell.
- 11:19I need like one more night of good sleep.
- 11:21OK guys, thank you for listening.
- 11:23I love you. Bye.
