Transcript
- 0:00Dayna Roselli: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 84.
- 0:04Sean McAllister: We head to the new Overlook Lounge at Win Las Vegas.
- 0:07Sean McAllister: The new cocktail menu really has a unique twist, or should we say, aroma.
- 0:14Dayna Roselli: Plus, she's a social media sensation, and now Sarah Hester Ross has her very own show in downtown Las Vegas.
- 0:21Dayna Roselli: We have a great chat with the musical comedian.
- 0:25Sean McAllister: And how much do you spend when you visit Las Vegas?
- 0:29Sean McAllister: We saw this topic come up this week, and it's worth a conversation.
- 0:34Sean McAllister: Let's spin that wheel and get right to it.
- 0:48Dayna Roselli: Welcome to episode 84, Dana Roselli here along with Sean McAllister, and we have a whole bunch of stuff to talk about today.
- 0:57Dayna Roselli: But we always like to kick off Sean with some just some new announcements that come out.
- 1:01Dayna Roselli: It's weekly.
- 1:02Dayna Roselli: There's tons of updates here in Las Vegas and it's busy as usual.
- 1:05Sean McAllister: Yeah, uh Bruno Mars has been selling out his shows over at Park MGM, and uh he's added more because the demand is just so huge.
- 1:15Sean McAllister: I uh there's a lady who goes to uh our dog park, and I think she has been to see Bruno Mars at least she's probably going on a dozen times that I know of that she has gone to see Bruno Mars.
- 1:30Sean McAllister: So his fans, they're insanely devoted to go s going to see him live.
- 1:35Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and I can't remember who it was this week told me it's the best show in Vegas, and it was it was someone who goes to a lot of shows in Las Vegas and covers the scene, and we're like, really, no one puts on a better performance.
- 1:47Dayna Roselli: So I've actually never seen him do a full show.
- 1:51Dayna Roselli: I've only seen him at the Rock and Rio Festival, like do a performance, uh, but I've never gone to his actual show.
- 1:58Dayna Roselli: Have you?
- 1:59Sean McAllister: No, I haven't.
- 2:00Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 2:00Sean McAllister: So and you there's a reason that you don't really see a lot of pictures and videos of his show.
- 2:07Sean McAllister: Because they this is one of the shows where they take your phone and seal it up in like this little sleeping bag so that you can't you don't have access to it when you go inside the theater.
- 2:19Sean McAllister: If you need to make a call, if you need to any emergencies, you have to leave the theater and then lock up your phone again before you go back in.
- 2:26Dayna Roselli: So now that's interesting.
- 2:27Dayna Roselli: This is literally, by the way, in a complete organic conversation as I'm thinking about it.
- 2:32Dayna Roselli: So I haven't gone because maybe I haven't been enticed to go.
- 2:37Dayna Roselli: I haven't seen video clips like I usually see.
- 2:39Dayna Roselli: Now that you're saying that, you're right.
- 2:41Dayna Roselli: I don't really know what a Bruno Mars show looks like.
- 2:44Dayna Roselli: Now, I think that's kind of a cool thing, but then I'm thinking if I haven't put the energy in to go see him, is it because I haven't seen anything to entice me to go?
- 2:56Sean McAllister: And it very well could be.
- 2:58Sean McAllister: But I know from the people who have been there, they say that it is such an incredible experience because nobody is glued to their phone, uh TikToking or Instagramming or doing Facebook Live.
- 3:13Sean McAllister: Everybody is just so into being there and into the music, and there's just such a great vibe.
- 3:20Sean McAllister: People are dancing, people are having a great time.
- 3:23Sean McAllister: It's a relief.
- 3:24Sean McAllister: It is, and people are just so connected to what Bruno is doing, and he's an incredible showman.
- 3:29Sean McAllister: So, you know, I think it is arguably one of the best live shows that you can see on the strip.
- 3:37Dayna Roselli: Well, I think we need to get there then at some point and you know, turn our phones off and enjoy.
- 3:42Dayna Roselli: I went to Chris Rock and it was the same thing.
- 3:44Dayna Roselli: That's the only show I've gone to where they took our phones, but you know, he's a comedian, so I know they don't like a lot of their material out there and things like that, but I enjoyed it because I just sat there and watched.
- 3:54Dayna Roselli: I mean, I don't know why people really video comedians anyway, but okay.
- 3:58Sean McAllister: But the reason we're talking about Bruno is because he's added two new shows October 1st and October 2nd at the park theater over at Park MGM.
- 4:07Dayna Roselli: And and speaking of that, of shows, really quick, I wanted to mention that you and I said we were going to Debbie Gibson and Joey McIntyre at the Venetian, and we went.
- 4:16Dayna Roselli: And because we know Debbie, I feel like we didn't shoot a lot of video there either because we really wanted to take in the performance.
- 4:22Dayna Roselli: We're kind of watching our friend, and that was really good to just be able to kind of pay attention to the show.
- 4:28Dayna Roselli: We did shoot some clips.
- 4:29Dayna Roselli: We have a little bit on our TikTok and a little bit on our social media, but that was so much fun to see that show.
- 4:35Sean McAllister: It really was.
- 4:36Sean McAllister: And Debbie and Joey are both just such great people, they're both so sweet, and together on stage, they their show is so fun.
- 4:47Sean McAllister: They do such a great mix of their own music, plus cover songs, and even the covers, like it's music that has a meaning to them.
- 4:56Sean McAllister: There's a reason that they're doing it.
- 4:58Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 4:58Sean McAllister: And it it's such a fun show.
- 5:00Sean McAllister: There's more shows uh coming up this month in September.
- 5:03Sean McAllister: Right.
- 5:04Sean McAllister: So get your tickets.
- 5:05Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it's really, really if you just it it's it's great.
- 5:08Dayna Roselli: And they they have great on stage chemistry, so go check them out.
- 5:12Dayna Roselli: We were there, we went backstage to say hi to Debbie and Joey after, and Perez Hilton was back there too.
- 5:18Dayna Roselli: That's right.
- 5:19Dayna Roselli: Who's been in town, he said like for a week or two, going to pop around and see a bunch of different shows.
- 5:23Dayna Roselli: He had his kids in town, and you know, Perez Hilton, obviously a very infamous blogger.
- 5:28Dayna Roselli: Is that what we'd call it?
- 5:29Dayna Roselli: Infamous?
- 5:30Dayna Roselli: Yeah, because you know, people love him and and people don't love him, but I think he plays off that.
- 5:34Sean McAllister: He does.
- 5:35Dayna Roselli: Yeah, and we had a good discussion about shows, and we were thinking we've got to have Perez on sometime.
- 5:39Dayna Roselli: It's interesting his take, not living here about shows compared to our take, so we'll have to have him on at some point.
- 5:46Dayna Roselli: And then speaking of shows and notable names, Brad Garrett's comedy club is a huge thing, and it's over at MGM Grand, but they just put out a little release saying they're gonna be moving, which I can only imagine means that the space is gonna be better.
- 5:59Sean McAllister: Yeah, well, I know for the longest time Brad has you know, I've known Brad for for years, back when I was, you know, working in TV here in Las Vegas.
- 6:09Sean McAllister: He was always a guest on our show.
- 6:11Sean McAllister: We had a great relationship with him.
- 6:13Sean McAllister: Uh he would always tease about the fact that MGM stuffed him down in the basement of the MGM Grand.
- 6:21Sean McAllister: He's like, Yeah, come and see me in the basement.
- 6:24Sean McAllister: Well, he's not in the basement anymore.
- 6:26Sean McAllister: He's moving upstairs.
- 6:27Dayna Roselli: Oh my goodness.
- 6:28Dayna Roselli: He finally, you know, after putting his foot down after the year we've had, he's like, okay, yeah, I know.
- 6:33Dayna Roselli: I'm excited for him.
- 6:35Dayna Roselli: He's gonna open this new location in November.
- 6:37Dayna Roselli: So they still have shows, I think, in the old location right now, but November 27th, officially, he'll be opening in the district at MGM Grand.
- 6:46Dayna Roselli: And apparently it's an intimate 210-seat comedy club.
- 6:51Dayna Roselli: And you know, Garrett always sometimes he makes, you know, appearances and does stand-up.
- 6:55Dayna Roselli: Sometimes it's but it's all people and comedians that he recommends.
- 6:58Sean McAllister: And he has a great lineup.
- 7:00Sean McAllister: I the the comedians who he brings in to uh do shows there, he handpicks them.
- 7:06Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 7:07Sean McAllister: So it's not just like a team of people who, you know, are just kind of overseeing it and Brad doesn't have anything to do with it.
- 7:14Sean McAllister: No, these are all his comedian friends.
- 7:17Sean McAllister: So a great lineup.
- 7:19Sean McAllister: He is hilarious.
- 7:21Sean McAllister: If you go, like everybody in the audience is fair game.
- 7:25Dayna Roselli: Oh yeah.
- 7:27Sean McAllister: Everybody.
- 7:28Dayna Roselli: Everybody is fair game.
- 7:29Dayna Roselli: Um I when I was there, were you with I don't know if it was one of the openings.
- 7:33Dayna Roselli: It was the um, what was the Kate Plus Eight mom?
- 7:35Dayna Roselli: What's her name?
- 7:36Dayna Roselli: Um Kate Goslin.
- 7:37Dayna Roselli: She was in the front row and he killed her.
- 7:40unknown: Oh no.
- 7:41Dayna Roselli: Yeah, it was.
- 7:42Dayna Roselli: I was like, um, I saw her in the bathroom after and she was laughing.
- 7:46Dayna Roselli: She was a good sport about it, but I think she actually I think it was during the show.
- 7:49Dayna Roselli: I think she had to go take a break because she needed to like splash some water on her face.
- 7:53Dayna Roselli: But yeah, he'll get you.
- 7:55Dayna Roselli: He always says at his show that if you're coming in to expect Robert from um Everybody loves Raymond, this is you're wrong, this is not it.
- 8:03Sean McAllister: No, he is not like Robert at all.
- 8:06Sean McAllister: No.
- 8:07Sean McAllister: Uh so again, uh November 27th, Brad Garrett's Comedy Club opens up in the district over at MGM Grand.
- 8:15Sean McAllister: And if you're familiar with MGM Grand, that's on the way over to uh the Grand Garden Arena.
- 8:20Dayna Roselli: Okay, and let's talk food.
- 8:22Dayna Roselli: And I'm gonna mention another buffet because our buffet episode did so well.
- 8:26Dayna Roselli: I know people like to know about the buffets and the Bacchanal buffet at Caesars Palace, very popular.
- 8:31Dayna Roselli: We've talked about it before, we visited it, but they just put out a release that they are now doing weekend brunch.
- 8:36Sean McAllister: Which is great, because brunch is probably one of the most popular meals of the week here in Las Vegas, wouldn't you say?
- 8:44Dayna Roselli: Yeah, I think so.
- 8:45Dayna Roselli: It's it's a thing, you know?
- 8:46Dayna Roselli: I think it's a thing in a lot of big cities now, and we're we're kind of on board.
- 8:50Dayna Roselli: But um, I wanted to mention the price because people love to know prices.
- 8:53Dayna Roselli: But listen, dinner at the Bacchanau buffet is usually$74.99, so it's a bit up there.
- 8:59Dayna Roselli: But brunch will be$54.99.
- 9:02Dayna Roselli: It's from 9 a.m.
- 9:03Dayna Roselli: to 3 p.m.
- 9:05Sean McAllister: And it looks like they have a a nice variety of fresh squeezed juices.
- 9:10Sean McAllister: They have a juice bar, they've got everything that you can imagine for brunch.
- 9:15Dayna Roselli: Yeah, they got a bunch of different dishes, hot dishes, cold dishes, but you know, it's a curio.
- 9:21Dayna Roselli: You know, I'm curious, how many people go to the buffet at Caesars for the smoothie?
- 9:26Dayna Roselli: Well, maybe it makes yourself feel better.
- 9:29Sean McAllister: Well, it is right next to the pool.
- 9:31Sean McAllister: So you need to be thinking, oh, after brunch, am I ready to roll myself out to the pool?
- 9:36Dayna Roselli: Or maybe, you know, if you're hung over, a nice, good, like healthy smoothie will help revive you to like begin your day again or something.
- 9:42Sean McAllister: Get your vitamins and antioxidants.
- 9:44Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 9:44Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 9:45Dayna Roselli: But this brings us to a topic that you saw on a Facebook group, Sean, that really kind of made you and I think.
- 9:51Dayna Roselli: And it was a question that was put out there, and it said, How much do you spend when you come to Vegas outside of airfare and hotel?
- 10:00Dayna Roselli: And what a variety of answers that we saw.
- 10:02Dayna Roselli: So we were curious, and we thought, okay, for our listeners, put your thinking cap on and maybe write us a note.
- 10:08Dayna Roselli: But we want to know, like, how much do you spend when you come to Vegas?
- 10:11Dayna Roselli: Let's just say like for five days.
- 10:13Sean McAllister: Right.
- 10:13Sean McAllister: Because it was very, it was really interesting to me to see the responses to this question because the responses were so they were all over the place.
- 10:24Sean McAllister: All over.
- 10:24Sean McAllister: There were people who would said they would spend, you know, anywhere from a couple hundred a day on the low end up to, you know, several thousand a day.
- 10:36Sean McAllister: And for over the course of, you know, five days up to twenty thousand dollars.
- 10:42Sean McAllister: It's like, do pe like, is that really it it just kind of opened my eyes.
- 10:46Sean McAllister: Like, man, is that really what people are budgeting for their Vegas trip?
- 10:51Dayna Roselli: I mean, sometimes when I look at like some of these nightclubs and day clubs and then shows that cost sometimes, you know, like a minimum of five thousand dollars.
- 11:05Dayna Roselli: I guess so.
- 11:06Dayna Roselli: If you're gonna do it up, I mean I think a lot of people come with a group, so they end up, you know, obviously splitting costs.
- 11:12Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 11:12Dayna Roselli: But still it's pricey to reserve an area, get bottle service, um, you know, see your favorite DJ, get a ticket, and all those kinds of things.
- 11:21Dayna Roselli: So it could, it could add up to 20,000.
- 11:24Dayna Roselli: And then gambling.
- 11:25Sean McAllister: It's just so interesting to me.
- 11:27Sean McAllister: I guess the gambling thing uh does it too, because when I I mean, we live here, Dana, so it's not like we're planning to spend five days only doing things on the strip, eating, gambling, going to shows, all that.
- 11:44Sean McAllister: When I plan a vacation, it's it's not that I'm stingy with spending, but it just doesn't seem like it adds up to the kind of money that you would spend in Las Vegas.
- 12:00Dayna Roselli: I agree.
- 12:01Dayna Roselli: I mean, I've gone to London and spent a couple thousand over four and a half days, that's it.
- 12:07Dayna Roselli: You know, because I kind of budget.
- 12:08Dayna Roselli: Uh I'm talking outside of hotel and airfare.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 12:11Dayna Roselli: You know what I mean?
- 12:12Dayna Roselli: Like, you know, just food, yeah, like some souvenirs, you want to go see some attractions, things like that.
- 12:17Dayna Roselli: You want to contribute to a dinner and with a group of friends.
- 12:20Dayna Roselli: So, and that's like all the way across, you know, you know, of the globe.
- 12:25Dayna Roselli: So, I mean, thinking about coming to Las Vegas and spending$20,000, but it just depends how you do it.
- 12:31Dayna Roselli: I have my my best friend from home's parents come all the time and they love to do Vegas on the cheap, and they really enjoy themselves.
- 12:39Dayna Roselli: They go to like the different kinds of museums that we have here.
- 12:42Dayna Roselli: Like they love cars and stuff like that.
- 12:44Dayna Roselli: That the I think we have the Mustang Museum here or something like that.
- 12:47Dayna Roselli: Yeah, the Shelby.
- 12:49Dayna Roselli: So they'll like go to the museum, then they love to do slot machines for a long period of time.
- 12:53Dayna Roselli: So they do their slots, but then they grab a piece of pizza.
- 12:56Dayna Roselli: And then they go people watch at Fremont Street, or you know, they walk around the strip and you know, grab a drink, and then they play some more slots, and then they go see a show like the Bronx Wanderers and love it.
- 13:08Dayna Roselli: You know, and they really sometimes actually stay at one of those little like not really a timeshare, but something like that, where they have a little kitchen.
- 13:16Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 13:17Dayna Roselli: They buy some stuff.
- 13:17Dayna Roselli: So I mean, like, that's Vegas on the cheap.
- 13:19Sean McAllister: That is true.
- 13:20Dayna Roselli: And it's a lot to do.
- 13:21Dayna Roselli: It's still fun and it's still different from where they're from.
- 13:24Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 13:24Sean McAllister: But if you do plan on spending for every meal and going to shows and, you know, even dinners, like that can add up quick.
- 13:34Sean McAllister: That can easily be a hundred and fifty bucks a person.
- 13:38Sean McAllister: Right.
- 13:38Sean McAllister: If you're, you know, if you're getting wine and the steak and the sides and dessert, and if you're going all out, you know, it can easily that twenty thousand dollars, you would have no problem having that totally disappear at the end of your trip.
- 13:52Dayna Roselli: No, exactly.
- 13:54Dayna Roselli: Exactly.
- 13:55Dayna Roselli: But there was someone that chimed in and said the average is two hundred and forty-six dollars a day, right?
- 13:59Sean McAllister: I know.
- 13:59Sean McAllister: I was wondering where that two hundred and forty-six figure came from.
- 14:03Dayna Roselli: I mean, listen, you could do it, but I mean, leave I mean, don't you feel like sometimes even looking around?
- 14:09Dayna Roselli: Like, I look at these dinners with all these people, and then I think this is just one little part of their trip.
- 14:14Dayna Roselli: Yes.
- 14:14Dayna Roselli: And then I'm like, and they just order and like look, drinks are pricey here.
- 14:18Dayna Roselli: I mean, there's places you can go, and we know all the little secrets and stuff like that.
- 14:22Dayna Roselli: But if you don't, that's why you gotta listen to the Vegas Revealed podcast.
- 14:26Dayna Roselli: Um, but I always tell people, like, it depends what you want.
- 14:30Dayna Roselli: Like, if you know, eat something small, then you know, grab a drink and then and then get a dinner, but maybe you don't have to like go all out, you know, kind of separate things along the way.
- 14:42Dayna Roselli: I mean, there's different ways that you can do it to save money, but very interesting topic.
- 14:46Dayna Roselli: We want you to chime in, send us notes on social media on our Twitter or Instagram, um, and let us know or email us at ideas at vegas-revealed.com and we'll read some of them next week.
- 14:56Dayna Roselli: How much do you spend when you come to Vegas?
- 14:58Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's really interesting.
- 15:00Sean McAllister: We'd love to hear what you have to say.
- 15:02Sean McAllister: Um, one of the new spots that has just opened up here in Las Vegas is the Overlook Lounge over at Win Las Vegas.
- 15:10Sean McAllister: They've totally redone the interior.
- 15:14Sean McAllister: It used to be known as Parasol Up.
- 15:16Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 15:16Dayna Roselli: So you and I went over there and we're like, oh, well, what could be new, right?
- 15:19Dayna Roselli: But when you walk in, it's got a whole different look.
- 15:22Dayna Roselli: Beautiful, by the way.
- 15:23Dayna Roselli: And the cocktail program is really over the top.
- 15:26Dayna Roselli: I feel like I've had a lot of cocktails in Vegas, but I really thought that the ones they created for us were so unique and the menu was so different.
- 15:36Sean McAllister: Yeah, and these cocktails, we spoke with a mixologist who you're going to hear from in just a minute, and she told us that these drinks are designed to kind of awaken your palate.
- 15:48Sean McAllister: So it's great for you know stopping by before dinner to really get your taste buds popping before you go and have a great meal.
- 15:55Dayna Roselli: Right, and we took the hotel mixologist aside and said, we gotta talk to you about this stuff while we were there on location.
- 16:01Dayna Roselli: So let's send it over to that.
- 16:02Dayna Roselli: I'm two cocktails in, Sean, and already I'm feeling it.
- 16:06Dayna Roselli: But these are delicious.
- 16:07Dayna Roselli: We are at the new Overlook Lounge.
- 16:09Dayna Roselli: It used to be called Parasol Up at the Wynn Las Vegas, and they have rebranded it and changed it up.
- 16:16Dayna Roselli: And what an amazing cocktail program they have.
- 16:18Sean McAllister: Well, and it's not only a cocktail program, there are aromas that go along with these cocktails, too.
- 16:25Sean McAllister: And it's unlike anything you will see anywhere else in Las Vegas, really, the world for that matter.
- 16:31Dayna Roselli: And we've been here a long time.
- 16:32Dayna Roselli: I've never seen a little spritz of perfume go into my drink.
- 16:35Dayna Roselli: So we have Marina Merciberini with us who has kind of created all of this.
- 16:40Dayna Roselli: She has made us three cocktails today.
- 16:42Dayna Roselli: They're absolutely delicious.
- 16:43Dayna Roselli: Welcome.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: I'm so excited to have you.
- 16:46Dayna Roselli: So tell me a little bit about and I want to call it the perfume, but you explain exactly what it is.
- 16:51Dayna Roselli: It's an aroma.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: So I created edible apertif perfumes to go on top of each of the spritz cocktails.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Every one of the spritz cocktails is a very glamorous cocktail, and I wanted to do the same in the aroma.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: So I took four different glamorous locations and encapsulated them in smells.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: So you have millions of little factor receptors, but thousands of taste buds.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: You taste predominantly with your nose, and 80% of flavor is through aroma and smell.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: So I created four perfumes, edible perfumes.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: There's the amalfi, which is inspired by um the amalfi coast in Italy.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: So it's Sicilian citrus, bergamo.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: There is Morocco, which is um bombay chai, uh Madagascar vanilla and apricot, um, kind of smelling very reminiscent of the uh souks in in Marrakesh.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: And then there is Paris.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Uh it's a like um, I took the aromas from a boutique Parisian hotel, so red wine, elder flower, and then last my favorite, Milan.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: I took the aromas from Fashion Week.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: I thought, what does a supermodel smell like?
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: So I thought maybe fancy hair products and perfumes.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Um, so I did jasmine, orange blossom, and then I thought maybe a little bit of like a cheeky little cigarette or something, so there's a little bit of a smoke quality to it as well.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: You put a lot of thought into this.
- 18:10Sean McAllister: And it all works so well together.
- 18:13Sean McAllister: This is it truly is like a multi-sensory experience to sit down and really experience the cocktails that you've created.
- 18:22Sean McAllister: And between the cocktail recipes and the aromas that you've created to go along with them, have you just spent like the last year plus in a chemistry lab?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Um so I design for 31 different venues across property here at the Win and Encore.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: So I basically like live in a chemistry lab.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: We have a beverage development kitchen where I'm constantly creating.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Um, and since March, I've launched 11 different menus across property.
- 18:49Dayna Roselli: It's incredible, and I love when I look at the menu, there's actually like the perfumes, like you list what they are and what they contain.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: Yes, I definitely wanted to highlight it because I don't think anyone in the world is doing something similar.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Um, so it makes this very special.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Also, the cocktails all are kind of oblique references to different glamorous icons in fashion, in film, history, um, even one in Roman mythology.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Um, I wanted each one to be a very special experience and very multi-sensory.
- 19:20Dayna Roselli: And I know our listeners that are going to visit Las Vegas and also the ones that live here are listening to this going, we need to stop there for like kind of like a sexy night out and a cocktail.
- 19:30Sean McAllister: Well, and and what you need to do is order the Clio because it comes with a slice of dragon fruit with some powder on top of it that turns you into a super taster.
- 19:41Sean McAllister: Explain that, Marina.
- 19:43SPEAKER_00: So it is a powder called electric dust.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: It's uh something I created.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: It is, I take the Sichuan flour or the buzz button, um, and I made it shelf stable.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: So it's this powder that's a natural alkaloid, speeds up your salivary glands, and turns you into a super taster.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: So as you lick this blue glittery powder, your tongue will start tingle and you start tasting different nuances and flavors and tasting at a higher intensity.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: It's just a really fun experience.
- 20:07Dayna Roselli: And Sean, you did it.
- 20:08Dayna Roselli: I'm about to do it.
- 20:09Dayna Roselli: What was it like?
- 20:10Sean McAllister: I mean, it your your tongue tingles, and it really it there's just like this bright feeling that takes over your mouth, and it kind of awakens your whole body too, and it's like, oh, I am ready to taste something.
- 20:25Sean McAllister: And I took a sip, and the Clio is amazing.
- 20:28Sean McAllister: And this is your take on the margarita.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Correct, and it's it's beautiful and um very colorful magenta, it has some dragon fruit in it.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: Um, just you know, it's it's pure beauty, and then it's also just a really fun experience.
- 20:41Dayna Roselli: Well, before we let you go, talk to people who have visited the win and they know this is Parasol Up.
- 20:47Dayna Roselli: What has changed?
- 20:48Dayna Roselli: I mean, it seems like there's a new decor, and then obviously we just talked about the cocktail program and what you've done, but you know, it's it's the same place, just different name.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: Um, Todd Avery Lenahan, our chief creative officer.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: I love partnering with him.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: Um he did rooms like Delilah here on property.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Um this was his vision, and when I saw it, I just wrote one word on a post-it iconic, and I knew the design was something that was just iconic, so that's what's inspiration for the cocktail program.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Um but it's just such a beautiful design with lots of discoverable elements.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Every time I come in here, I I notice a new piece of art or the bunny fish sculpture from Italy, and just all these really beautiful, artful things.
- 21:28Dayna Roselli: It really is beautiful.
- 21:30Dayna Roselli: And I know Todd, who you're talking about, he's always worked really hard here in making things different and beautiful.
- 21:36Dayna Roselli: That is his big thing.
- 21:37Sean McAllister: And as I'm looking around, it all makes sense.
- 21:39Sean McAllister: The decor does tie in with the message in the story that goes with each of these cocktails.
- 21:46Sean McAllister: So, very well thought out, so incredibly well executed.
- 21:50Sean McAllister: Your hard work has paid off.
- 21:52Dayna Roselli: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 21:54Dayna Roselli: We love it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, thanks so much for having, and I can't wait to see everyone here at the Overlook.
- 21:58Sean McAllister: They've done such a great job at the Overlook.
- 22:00Sean McAllister: Overlook Lounge, again, over at the Wyn.
- 22:03Sean McAllister: We have pictures and video that you'll see on our social media pages.
- 22:07Sean McAllister: Just look for Vegas Revealed and check out what we experienced at Overlook.
- 22:12Dayna Roselli: Okay, so we're gonna go from cocktails to music and comedy.
- 22:17Dayna Roselli: We had a really fun interview with Sarah Hester Ross.
- 22:21Dayna Roselli: She like has more than a million followers on TikTok, okay?
- 22:25Dayna Roselli: And she kind of does like a little bit of uh musical comedy.
- 22:28Sean McAllister: And rather than us uh trying to explain what she does, just take a quick listen to what she does.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: It's Florida Woman Wednesday.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: You can't make the shit up.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: On this day, April 21st, a Florida woman was really hungry, but she did not have money to buy some dinner.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: She saw a man walking out of a Bradenton gas station and had an idea, so she waved to him and walked on over.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: He was an undercover cup, so it surprised her when she was arrested for upper rings for some chicken nuggets.
- 23:09Dayna Roselli: All right, we are ready for some musical comedy with Sarah Hester Ross.
- 23:14Dayna Roselli: She lives here in Las Vegas.
- 23:15Dayna Roselli: She's got a new show that's kicking off at notoriety for the month of September.
- 23:19Dayna Roselli: And she also plays piano at the Dueling Piano Bar at Times Square, New York, New York.
- 23:25Dayna Roselli: Hey Sarah.
- 23:26Sean McAllister: Hi guys, how are you doing?
- 23:28Sean McAllister: Fantastic.
- 23:29Sean McAllister: And so you kind of mesh music and comedy together.
- 23:33Sean McAllister: And I feel like there's an age-old question to ask you.
- 23:37Sean McAllister: It's like the chicken and the egg.
- 23:38Sean McAllister: What came first, the music or the comedy?
- 23:42SPEAKER_03: Music definitely came first, uh, like organically, I guess.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Uh I grew up in a music home.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: My mom is retired now, but she was a elementary school music teacher for 37 years.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: But the comedy also comes naturally, not into like work in uh very later in life.
- 24:02SPEAKER_03: So I grew up in music and then comedy kind of like gradually got in there um later in life.
- 24:11SPEAKER_03: Really, when I started doing dueling pianos, is where I kind of like peeked his head over.
- 24:15Dayna Roselli: So well, and you have a huge following on TikTok.
- 24:19Dayna Roselli: We were just looking at your TikTok.
- 24:20Dayna Roselli: We're recording this on a Wednesday, and we realize it's Florida Woman Wednesday.
- 24:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I just posted my my Wednesday Florida Woman today, and it was kind of late because I'm uh a little stressed out because my show is opening tomorrow and I'm very excited about it, but I I almost forgot, and I haven't been doing it like like steadily since I got my job back at New York, New York, because it's I don't know, uh, social media is a full-time job on its own, and it's just like, oh my gosh.
- 24:52SPEAKER_03: But um, I'm gonna keep doing it as long as people keep watching.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: But yeah, um, Florida Man Friday and Florida Woman Wednesday has been my um very popular videos on social media and TikTok.
- 25:05Sean McAllister: So and where did this fascination with Florida come from?
- 25:10Sean McAllister: I know it's crazy, and I'm just counting my blessings right now that our show is Vegas revealed and not Tampa revealed because I'd be afraid of what you'd have to say.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm originally from Florida, I was born and raised in Tampa.
- 25:23SPEAKER_03: I lived in Orlando for 10 years before I moved here to Vegas.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: So Florida Man is a very popular meme, and I I don't know.
- 25:31SPEAKER_03: I I've been asked this question so many times, like, how did you come up with this?
- 25:35SPEAKER_03: And it's like I just was trying things out and like putting things out there, and whatever stuck I kept going with.
- 25:42SPEAKER_03: And one day I read a meme um about Florida Man, and I thought it was funny, and so I put it to music.
- 25:49SPEAKER_03: I wrote this little jingle to go with it, and uh it the rest is history, and I've uh during the pandemic, I did a Florida man every week for over a year and a half.
- 26:01SPEAKER_03: So I've got endless content, and like because there's a Florida man story for every day, and so I have content probably for the next 12 years.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: That's true.
- 26:13Sean McAllister: Thanks, Florida.
- 26:14Dayna Roselli: I know because there's always that little game people play.
- 26:17Dayna Roselli: They say, like, put in your birthday and type in Florida and see what headline comes up, and it's always something crazy.
- 26:23Sean McAllister: It it is crazy.
- 26:24Sean McAllister: And I was just gonna say, what else can we expect from your live show over at Notoriety?
- 26:30SPEAKER_03: Well, it's all original comedy and music.
- 26:32SPEAKER_03: Um, I released a few singles during the pandemic as well, uh, Nobody to Love and Life Goes On.
- 26:40SPEAKER_03: And so those will be in the show as well.
- 26:42SPEAKER_03: Um, it's a three-piece band and myself playing.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: So all the comedy is music and and it's all original.
- 26:50SPEAKER_03: So love it.
- 26:51Dayna Roselli: And it's such a beautiful space, notoriety.
- 26:53Dayna Roselli: It's a great space.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, it really is.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: Um, I I've done some of the comedy shows there, and uh it actually worked with me really well because they have a piano on stage there for me.
- 27:07SPEAKER_03: I tried to do the comedy uh club scene here for a while, but I'm literally bringing baggage with me.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: So I'm bringing a sound equipment and piano because comedy clubs aren't set up for music and stuff like that.
- 27:21SPEAKER_03: After a while, I'm like, why am I doing this?
- 27:23SPEAKER_03: This is hard.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: Uh and so instead of going to comedy clubs, I'm like, I just write my own show, do it myself.
- 27:32Sean McAllister: And and the the content that you have on stage, do you find that um Vegas audiences respond to it differently than audiences in other cities?
- 27:45SPEAKER_03: Well, um, I can only speak from the dueling piano bars side of it.
- 27:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is my first time.
- 27:52SPEAKER_03: Uh I did this show that I'm doing at the space and I recorded it and I released a live album.
- 27:59SPEAKER_03: It's called It's All a Joke.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: It's on all uh streaming platforms if you want to download it and get it.
- 28:05SPEAKER_03: Um but so that's the only time I really done this.
- 28:08SPEAKER_03: I haven't done my show outside of Las Vegas.
- 28:12SPEAKER_03: But in dueling piano bars, which I do my comedy in um I don't know.
- 28:18SPEAKER_03: I feel like the people going to dueling piano bars are expecting that kind of talk and adult content.
- 28:25SPEAKER_03: So um, well it time only time will tell.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: And hopefully I'll take this on the road one day.
- 28:31SPEAKER_03: I was thinking about maybe putting together a Florida tour, which would be really fun.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: But would that be perfect?
- 28:37Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 28:38Dayna Roselli: Florida man tour.
- 28:39Dayna Roselli: Yeah.
- 28:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Well, my TikTok following is definitely a lot of Floridians.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: A lot, a lot.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, that's kind of the experiment that I'm doing with this show.
- 28:50SPEAKER_03: People from TikTok have been coming to New York, New York to see me in the dueling bar.
- 28:54SPEAKER_03: Um, unfortunately, it's not my show, you know.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: I have partners, it's an all request show, it's top 40.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: So the idea was for me to put this show together and see what kind of draw from social media I can get.
- 29:09SPEAKER_03: Because it really is different.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: Like I have a large following on social media, but that might not translate to real like people coming out to Vegas and stuff like that.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: So it's an experiment, but an experiment I'm very excited about.
- 29:25Sean McAllister: Are there are there nerves in getting up and and putting this show on?
- 29:30Sean McAllister: Or are you are you ready?
- 29:32Sean McAllister: Are you ready to just pull the trigger and get up there and start doing your thing?
- 29:37SPEAKER_03: Well, the show aspect is is no nerves whatsoever.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: My band is amazing.
- 29:42SPEAKER_03: Denny Michler um is my guitar player and my musical director, and my band is fantastic.
- 29:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I've been working on my material for years, so I'm not worried about the show itself.
- 29:55SPEAKER_03: I am having dreams about walking on stage and nobody being there.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, you know, yes, there are nerves that people aren't gonna show up because it's uh, you know, a Thursday, it's on Fremont Street, you know.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm looking at a TikTok following and they're not here in Las Vegas.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: So yes, of course there are nerves, but you know, nothing worth doing is ever simple.
- 30:23Dayna Roselli: So I listen, I think it's all about you know spreading the word, and then you get you know people into the show and they spread the word and it's gonna grow and I I think you're you're gonna be great.
- 30:33Dayna Roselli: I mean, it's uh it's something that's different.
- 30:35Dayna Roselli: I mean, I've lived here for 15 plus years and I've never seen a musical comedy show, of you?
- 30:41Sean McAllister: No, I haven't.
- 30:42Dayna Roselli: No, so this is really cool and different.
- 30:44SPEAKER_03: Oh, cool.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I like to say, because music and comedy, people don't like what does that mean?
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: Uh so I like to explain it that I am I I would like to be the next Bet Midler, basically.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: Because if you've seen any of her live shows, it's mostly comedy, even though she's known for her singles and movies and stuff like that.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: So that's the goal of that.
- 31:11Sean McAllister: That's a that's a that's a good star to shoot for.
- 31:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, definitely.
- 31:16SPEAKER_03: It really is one of my favorites.
- 31:18Dayna Roselli: And you're going just through September, right?
- 31:20Dayna Roselli: And then will it continue if you if it's successful and you feel you want to do it?
- 31:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we I've been talking to notoriety about it.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: And if um if it does well, then there's a possible extension into the new year.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: So perfect.
- 31:35Dayna Roselli: Yes, we're excited for you, we're pulling for you.
- 31:37Dayna Roselli: Uh let people know let people know where they can find you, just looking up your name on TikTok and all your social and all that.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's really simple.
- 31:46SPEAKER_03: All of my uh tags and my website is Sarah Hester Ross.com.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: So at Sarah Hester Ross are all my handles.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: I'm very humble, by the way.
- 31:58SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm not vain at all.
- 32:00SPEAKER_03: So just ask me.
- 32:02SPEAKER_03: But yeah, so that's how you can find me everywhere.
- 32:06Sean McAllister: Perfect.
- 32:06Sean McAllister: And we have a link to get tickets to your show over at Notoriety down in our show notes.
- 32:11Sean McAllister: So we encourage everyone to go and see Sarah Hester Ross over at Notoriety for the whole month of September.
- 32:18Sean McAllister: Thank you so much for your time.
- 32:19SPEAKER_03: Thank you guys so much for having me.
- 32:21SPEAKER_03: It was a pleasure.
- 32:22Dayna Roselli: Thanks, Sarah.
- 32:26Sean McAllister: It is time for some tips here on episode 84.
- 32:30Sean McAllister: And something we wanted to mention, you know, you hear a lot about uh Christmas in July.
- 32:35Sean McAllister: Well, we're gonna do Christmas in September.
- 32:38Sean McAllister: How about that?
- 32:38Sean McAllister: Good.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: There is a show uh that we talked about here on Vegas Revealed back on episode 44.
- 32:45Sean McAllister: It's called This Is Christmas.
- 32:47Sean McAllister: It was being staged over at the Venetian, but because of all the craziness that was going on in the world, the show never ended up happening.
- 32:54Sean McAllister: But we just got word that the show is coming back this holiday season, and we cannot wait.
- 33:00Sean McAllister: It's gonna be a great lineup, a great performance.
- 33:03Dayna Roselli: I mean, I think you and I were really taken by, you know, the cast and even like seeing the stage setup and the decorations and the way that they were gonna run this show, and we were like, this is gonna be a great holiday show.
- 33:15Dayna Roselli: And then we were so bummed that it, you know, didn't come to fruition.
- 33:19Dayna Roselli: And I know that everyone that was part of the cast and crew was bummed too because they had been deep into rehearsals.
- 33:25Dayna Roselli: So, yeah, we had interviewed uh Jasmine Trias and Ben Stone in episode 44 of Vegas Revealed.
- 33:33Dayna Roselli: They will return and they are going to be in the show as well.
- 33:36Dayna Roselli: It's at the Palazzo Theater, and it starts on Friday, November 26th.
- 33:43Sean McAllister: And as you mentioned, we did talk to Jasmine Trias and Ben Stone, who are once again going to be a part of this show, but there is an expanded cast for the performance this year.
- 33:54Dayna Roselli: Right.
- 33:54Dayna Roselli: Some additional American Idol stars and Broadway performers.
- 33:58Dayna Roselli: I noticed Ace Young is on the list and his wife.
- 34:02Sean McAllister: Diana DeGarmo, who's another American Idol alum.
- 34:05Sean McAllister: They're terrific together.
- 34:06Dayna Roselli: They really are.
- 34:07Dayna Roselli: I saw Ace in Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Smith Center, and I think Diana was in it too, and they did a great job.
- 34:14Dayna Roselli: Also, Eric Jordan Young will be in the show, and he lives here in Las Vegas.
- 34:18Sean McAllister: Great Broadway star and director, always super talented.
- 34:22Sean McAllister: So again, this show, this is Christmas, is going to be staged just in time for the holidays and then runs through the holiday season.
- 34:30Sean McAllister: Should be good.
- 34:30Sean McAllister: Live band and everything.
- 34:32Dayna Roselli: All right, let's switch gears a little bit.
- 34:33Dayna Roselli: This is gonna be something that if you visit Las Vegas, you'll want to know about.
- 34:38Dayna Roselli: People love their sugar factory.
- 34:40Sean McAllister: They do.
- 34:41Dayna Roselli: And we are opening a new one.
- 34:43Dayna Roselli: Well, we aren't.
- 34:43Dayna Roselli: Sean and I aren't.
- 34:45Dayna Roselli: But uh they're opening a new one on the Las Vegas strip, and it's like a two-story sugar factory, and it's opening this weekend, and I say this weekend of Labor Day.
- 34:55Sean McAllister: Yeah, uh Fiddy Cent is gonna be there to kick off uh the big grand opening celebration that's really gonna continue well into uh September.
- 35:06Sean McAllister: The grand opening celebration is, but Fiddy's gonna be there to debut uh a goblet that he has designed with a whole bunch of boobies.
- 35:16Dayna Roselli: A whole bunch of stuff in there.
- 35:18Sean McAllister: Stuff and candies and share this one with your friends.
- 35:22Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 35:22Dayna Roselli: Sean and I got hired to cover the pink carpets.
- 35:25Dayna Roselli: There's a slew of different uh event nights where they have different celebrity appearances.
- 35:30Dayna Roselli: So we're gonna be covering that.
- 35:32Dayna Roselli: So look for our videos, we'll have all that.
- 35:34Dayna Roselli: But yeah, uh 50 making an appearance.
- 35:37Dayna Roselli: Fitty.
- 35:37Dayna Roselli: Is it fitty or fifty?
- 35:38Dayna Roselli: He's fitty cent.
- 35:39Dayna Roselli: Fitty, I know.
- 35:40Dayna Roselli: I mean, he must have one of the most popular like songs out there because everyone uses it on their birthday.
- 35:47Sean McAllister: They do.
- 35:48Sean McAllister: They shorten.
- 35:49Sean McAllister: It's your birthday.
- 35:51Dayna Roselli: And he's always actually a pleasure to interview, really nice guy.
- 35:55Sean McAllister: He is, and what a businessman he is.
- 35:58Sean McAllister: I mean, he vitamin water just like launched him into the next level of you know, business at the top of the game.
- 36:07Sean McAllister: Plus, he's an actor, he's got movie projects coming out.
- 36:11Sean McAllister: So there's gonna be a lot to talk with him about, and you'll hear that uh in the coming weeks here on Vegas Revealed.
- 36:17Dayna Roselli: So the new location, if you've ever been to Las Vegas.
- 36:21Dayna Roselli: Oh, the dog's rubbing my leg.
- 36:23Dayna Roselli: Hi, Sawyer.
- 36:24Dayna Roselli: Sorry, at home podcast break.
- 36:27Dayna Roselli: Um if you've ever been to Twin Peaks on the strip, this is what is taking over that spot.
- 36:33Dayna Roselli: So it's right at the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard, very busy area.
- 36:38Dayna Roselli: I think this location's gonna do really well.
- 36:40Sean McAllister: Yeah, directly across the street from the cosmopolitan.
- 36:44Sean McAllister: Um, so it is a very busy intersection, and uh that's a a busy spot that's gonna draw lots of people in for their sugar fix.
- 36:52Dayna Roselli: And I think you and I are gonna, for the first time, experience the Planet Hollywood Miracle Mile Shops parking garage since it's been paid.
- 37:02Dayna Roselli: So it used to be free.
- 37:04Dayna Roselli: Now you have to pay.
- 37:05Dayna Roselli: So I think we're gonna need to park there to do this shoot.
- 37:08Dayna Roselli: And so we will have our parking experience on later podcasts.
- 37:13Sean McAllister: Hopefully, it'll be better than the cosmopolitan experience from last week.
- 37:17Dayna Roselli: Hopefully.
- 37:18Dayna Roselli: I was gonna say we could park at the cosmopolitan and walk across the street, but heck no.
- 37:22Sean McAllister: You learned your lesson.
- 37:24Sean McAllister: No going back.
- 37:25Dayna Roselli: I know.
- 37:25Dayna Roselli: I'll be back to the cosmopolitan.
- 37:27Dayna Roselli: I just won't park there.
- 37:29Sean McAllister: And another quick note uh the Chippendales are back on stage at their theater over at the Rio as of Labor Day weekend.
- 37:37Sean McAllister: So the Chips, they're back.
- 37:38Sean McAllister: A Vegas fixture.
- 37:40Sean McAllister: Glad to see their show returned.
- 37:41Dayna Roselli: There's always so many shows opening and announcements of openings.
- 37:45Dayna Roselli: Just stay with our social media.
- 37:47Dayna Roselli: We are on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, you name it.
- 37:51Dayna Roselli: TikTok TikTok.
- 37:52Dayna Roselli: Oh yeah.
- 37:53Dayna Roselli: I think that's a wrap on episode 84.
- 37:55Sean McAllister: That is a wrap.
- 37:56Sean McAllister: Once again, you can see uh all the show information for Sarah Hester Ross down in our show notes.
- 38:02Sean McAllister: That's where you will also uh find a link to contribute to Vegas Revealed if you'd like.
- 38:08Sean McAllister: And also Lynx Galore, also a link to our merchandise shop uh that's got us a whole bunch of fun stuff.
- 38:14Dayna Roselli: I know.
