- 0:00Hello, and welcome to today's episode of Thrive after 45.
- 0:05I'm Denise Drink Walter heart whisperer, midlife mirror and mentor.
- 0:09Every week I am honored to share energy and space with inspiring guests whose stories reflect so many possibilities of thriving.
- 0:18Beyond 45.
- 0:20Together we'll uncover the whispers of the heart, the power of midlife transformation, and the wisdom that fuels expansion.
- 0:29Have you ever had a moment when you quietly realized I can't keep going on like this?
- 0:38These moments have a way of shifting us softly, deeply, and.
- 0:43Often without warning, today's guests, John James Sanje PhD, knows that turning point.
- 0:51Well, there was a time when he felt stuck, overwhelmed, and moving through a depression with no one.
- 0:57Who could help guide him out.
- 0:59So he did what some or many of us eventually learned to do.
- 1:04He began helping himself one honest step at a time, and that journey led him to NLP, and it changed the entire direction of his life.
- 1:15John is now an NLP trainer, PhD Clinical High.
- 1:20Hypnotherapist and results coach with 35 years of experience and for more than 25 years, he has led an NLP training center that has supported thousands of individuals to rebuild self-worth.
- 1:34Clarify goals and reconnect with their true direction.
- 1:39John has written numerous powerful books.
- 1:42His latest authored book is Control Your Emotions Master Your Life, and I am honored to share this space with you today.
- 1:51John, thank you for coming on the show.
- 1:54Yay.
- 1:55Thanks, Denise.
- 1:56Oh my God.
- 1:56You know what's so funny, honey?
- 1:57Every time somebody reads something like that, I go, that's not me.
- 2:00I didn't, I didn't do all that.
- 2:02You know what you imagine what 10 years can do?
- 2:0525 years is amazing.
- 2:07It really is.
- 2:07You know, and, and what's great about what you're doing, Denise, you're giving people the roadmap and that's truly what we need as adults.
- 2:17Yeah.
- 2:17Because as children, we never learned it.
- 2:19Right.
- 2:20Absolutely.
- 2:22As children, we followed what we were told to do, what we were guided to do, and the women that I work with are in the throes of understanding their identity is totally lost because they've been, yeah.
- 2:36Steering the steering, the ship from others' viewpoints instead of their own.
- 2:41Yeah.
- 2:41Yeah.
- 2:42That, that is so true.
- 2:43Especially I think nowadays with women it's, it's expanding a little bit.
- 2:47Yeah.
- 2:48Because you know, back when my parents, my dad, grandfather came from Italy and my dad is all about respect and the Italian thing, and you, the wife stays home and does that.
- 2:55Yeah.
- 2:56And my mom was the same thing.
- 2:58I mean, thank God she loved her job as raising her five kids.
- 3:01Mm-hmm.
- 3:01You know, it gave her that identity.
- 3:03But what happens when the relationship failed like it did where my mom after 30 years and she had to go look for that.
- 3:11Right.
- 3:11You know, who am I now?
- 3:12Right.
- 3:12And that's the real question that everybody asked people.
- 3:15I don't care who you're listening to this, it's the question of.
- 3:18Who am I and what's my purpose here?
- 3:20Yeah.
- 3:21Yeah.
- 3:22And that's exactly what I am finding.
- 3:25People are dying, quote unquote, literally for, and what you do share with us how the work that you do helps with that.
- 3:40In terms of understanding themselves as individuals.
- 3:44Well, that's, that is the million dollar question, right?
- 3:47'cause if you can, if you can figure that out, yeah.
- 3:50Right.
- 3:50If you can figure out, not that in, in neurolinguistic programming or NLP, we say this, no one's broken.
- 3:57We're not, and that's what a lot of people think, I need to be fixed, I'm broken.
- 4:00No, you're not.
- 4:01The challenge is that you just have the wrong strategies or mental programs that we've learned, as we were just saying.
- 4:09Right.
- 4:10Most of them from childhood.
- 4:12Right.
- 4:12And by the time we were eight or 10 years old, the, the unconscious mind really doesn't develop so that that small infant literally, I mean literally believes.
- 4:23Everything it sees and hears and feels.
- 4:26And so if your parent just says to you one time, well, my dad said this when I was eight.
- 4:30I know he didn't mean it, but he goes, God, you're so damn lazy.
- 4:33Mm-hmm.
- 4:34Right.
- 4:35And you, so we, we own that, right?
- 4:37That becomes our identity because we go, oh, well it's dad.
- 4:42And you know, he's just amazing.
- 4:44He's powerful.
- 4:45He must be right.
- 4:46Or your, your, your teacher in school says, you're so bad at speaking.
- 4:51Which is really what happens to a lot of people.
- 4:53They get up in class, they do a thing, and, oh, that's wrong.
- 4:56Oh, really?
- 4:57It's wrong.
- 4:58That becomes their identity and it's such a shame because now to answer your question really is this, yeah.
- 5:04What is the real question that ultimately we want every single person wants?
- 5:08That's my, that's gonna be the new title of my book.
- 5:11Right?
- 5:11I just wanna be happy.
- 5:13Mm-hmm.
- 5:14I just wanna be happy.
- 5:15It doesn't matter what I'm doing.
- 5:16Right.
- 5:17Right.
- 5:17So we were just talking that about that off camera.
- 5:19Right.
- 5:20I just wanna be happy in what I do and if I'm, if I'm doing it, sometimes, sometimes the money's not that important and usually the money's attracted to people that have that kind of energy.
- 5:30Yes.
- 5:30Yeah.
- 5:31And, and people, people wanna gravitate towards that.
- 5:34Right.
- 5:34'cause it's infectious.
- 5:36Yeah.
- 5:37Right.
- 5:37And if you can, and, and here's the, and here really is the answer.
- 5:41What do you want?
- 5:43That's the first question I ask my, my clients.
- 5:46I, I put it like this, and this is almost funny.
- 5:48I said, pretend I'm your travel agent.
- 5:51Mm-hmm.
- 5:51What's the first question I'm gonna ask you?
- 5:54Where do you wanna go?
- 5:56Where do you wanna go?
- 5:58Because it doesn't matter if we go, oh, well we could take a skateboard, a bike, a plane, a car, a bus.
- 6:03It doesn't matter.
- 6:04The vehicle.
- 6:04Yeah.
- 6:05If we don't know the destination right, is like one of the quotes says, and then any place will do.
- 6:11Right.
- 6:11Right.
- 6:12So that's one of the first things I do with people is really, you know, of course they come in like this, I all my life and then this, I'm not getting this and I'm my job and the kids, and I kick the dog when I get home and Right.
- 6:23Life is just so hard.
- 6:24I go, okay, I get that.
- 6:25Right.
- 6:26And where do you want to go?
- 6:28Right.
- 6:29Well, you know, here's what, here's what they, this is almost every time Denise.
- 6:33Yeah.
- 6:34It's almost, it's almost hysterical.
- 6:35Well, you know.
- 6:37Give you an example about the travel agent.
- 6:39Yeah.
- 6:39Where do you wanna go?
- 6:40Well, you know, I've been to New York.
- 6:41I don't wanna go there.
- 6:42I just, yeah, I'm, I'm just tired of that weather.
- 6:44Yeah.
- 6:45I've been to Hawaii so many times.
- 6:46I go, yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that.
- 6:48But where do you wanna go?
- 6:50Oh, well, I was thinking about Europe, but you know, Europe's just so expensive nowadays and, and it's all of that.
- 6:58Yeah.
- 6:58'cause it's, it's the, like we were saying, it's the mind clutter.
- 7:02Right.
- 7:02Yeah.
- 7:03Yeah.
- 7:03Right.
- 7:03It's one of the things that we don't learn from our primary caretakers is decision making.
- 7:09Mm.
- 7:10Mm-hmm.
- 7:10Making prominent, healthy decisions about what truly makes us happy mm-hmm.
- 7:19And what we want.
- 7:20Mm-hmm.
- 7:21So question is, is what's the cause of that?
- 7:28Uh, it, it's not just one thing.
- 7:32Okay.
- 7:32'cause think about this.
- 7:34I love giving metaphors.
- 7:36We're, we're in school.
- 7:38Mm-hmm.
- 7:39And usually by the time, well, let me back up a bit.
- 7:43You already know this.
- 7:44I'm gonna ask your listeners what are the three biggest problems that we have in life?
- 7:47There's only three.
- 7:48Only three.
- 7:49And every other problem you think of falls under one of these categories.
- 7:52The first one is relationships.
- 7:54Mm-hmm.
- 7:54And we learn that by the time we're 13 and the hormones kick in and we, we get into relationships and we get out and we mess'em up and we get, you know, we get screwed somehow, like I did when I was 13 in my first relationship.
- 8:05That sets the precedence for a lot of'em after that.
- 8:07Mm-hmm.
- 8:07The second one, the second issue is money.
- 8:10Right.
- 8:11We get outta school, we're going to college, we realize I gotta get a job.
- 8:14Mm-hmm.
- 8:15Right.
- 8:15Money becomes important.
- 8:17Right.
- 8:17And then the third one usually doesn't happen till way down the line.
- 8:20By the time you're 30, 40, 50, 60 years old sometimes is your health.
- 8:24Health.
- 8:25Yep.
- 8:26Yep.
- 8:26The Dai Alma was a great quote.
- 8:28He says, I'm paraphrasing.
- 8:30We spend all our time making money, and then we spend all our money trying to recoup our health down the road.
- 8:37Totally.
- 8:38And it's so sad, you know?
- 8:39Yeah.
- 8:39Because we're not.
- 8:40We're not conditioned, and I guess this is the answer to your question.
- 8:44We're not conditioned to find happiness.
- 8:47Right, right, right.
- 8:48Look at, I can ask anyone.
- 8:50I don't care who it is.
- 8:54Can you get unhappy right now?
- 8:56Like you can make yourself unhappy?
- 8:59Mm-hmm.
- 8:59It's pretty easy to do.
- 9:00Just think about some negative things that happen.
- 9:02They don't have to be dramatic.
- 9:04Yeah.
- 9:04But when I ask, do you know how to make yourself happy?
- 9:09That's a whole nother realm because most people go, no.
- 9:14Mm-hmm.
- 9:15I don't.
- 9:16And that's, as I was saying before, that's the next title of my book, is it's gonna be, happiness is a verb because it's in the doing.
- 9:24It's in the doing.
- 9:26Sitting around thinking about happiness, right?
- 9:28Thinking about your problems ruminating in negative emotions, don't help us.
- 9:33Right.
- 9:35Yeah, so, so when and, and tell me what resonates when I ask this question.
- 9:43'cause I'm very curious when people think about happiness, is the default outside in?
- 9:54Well, you really can't see anything other than your perspective through your own eyes.
- 10:03Right.
- 10:04We call that associated.
- 10:06You're associated.
- 10:07You're seeing your life through your own eyes.
- 10:10You can't step out of yourself and look back at you.
- 10:13Now, there's an exercise, it's called perceptual positions.
- 10:16There's three positions in, in fact, NLP started from Fritz Pearls, Virginia Satir, and Milton Erickson.
- 10:23Fritz did some what he called gestalt therapy, where you'd have other people sit in another chair.
- 10:28Mm-hmm.
- 10:28Right?
- 10:28And you go pretend that's your dad over there.
- 10:30Become your dad.
- 10:33Right.
- 10:33And then look back at yourself over here and talk to you as your dad would.
- 10:38Of course.
- 10:39Usually if they're having issues with their dad, it's never good.
- 10:41Right?
- 10:42Right.
- 10:42But you're such a lazy boy.
- 10:43Your your husband pain, you never work hard, you know, you can't do anything.
- 10:46You sit around all day, blah, blah, blah.
- 10:48Well, okay, then you become the silent observer.
- 10:53Mm-hmm.
- 10:54Sit and watch these two actors you and your dad perform.
- 10:58What kind of perception do you get?
- 11:01It's a completely different perspective.
- 11:03So coming back to the question really is you can't see anything other than yourself.
- 11:08Mm-hmm.
- 11:09And so everything outside of ourselves, as I say, life, remember, I think this is the most important quote I'm gonna tell you people today.
- 11:18Life is nothing more than a mirrored reflection of what you see inside.
- 11:24Mm-hmm.
- 11:24Mm-hmm.
- 11:25What you see and tell yourself inside, you get outside.
- 11:30It shows up, and you can call that manifesting abundance, whatever you want to call it.
- 11:35Right?
- 11:35Because we can all do it.
- 11:36We all, my God, I, I thought about a parking lot and it showed up, right?
- 11:40Or a parking space, or, I was thinking about a friend and he, and he called, that's called manifesting.
- 11:45But it really is the art of deciding what you want.
- 11:49'cause the universe is a wonderful thing.
- 11:52It gives you exactly what you ask for.
- 11:55And most people, like you were just saying, Denise, spend so much time looking outside of themselves.
- 12:00Exactly.
- 12:01Hoping, hoping that, oh, you know, happiness is gonna show up at their door.
- 12:05Like, Don, Don, Don, Don.
- 12:06Oh, there, it's now I finally can be happy.
- 12:09Mm-hmm.
- 12:09Right.
- 12:09I got that job or that relationship.
- 12:11My kid did this, or you know, I achieved that certain amount of income, or I'm healthy now.
- 12:15Whatever that is.
- 12:16No, it's not.
- 12:16It's not never outside of you.
- 12:17It's always within you.
- 12:19And you always have the power because I believe this, I'm a godly man.
- 12:22I believe that our creator gave us two things.
- 12:25Free will to choose anything we want in life, and ultimate power to create it.
- 12:30Love that, ultimate power to create it.
- 12:33The challenge is, as you were just saying, we're not taught Right.
- 12:38That that's possible.
- 12:40Yeah, because what do, what's the first word we learn as children?
- 12:44The first, I mean the, what is it?
- 12:47No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 12:51Right.
- 12:52Well, if that's the very first word, and that's your parameters of your life, the world that you live in, don't go there.
- 12:58Don't step outside, don't touch the dog.
- 13:00Don't, don't hit mommy.
- 13:02What do you think you're gonna be like when you grow up?
- 13:06Mm-hmm.
- 13:06The world then just expands, right?
- 13:08It doesn't change.
- 13:10Right?
- 13:10Right.
- 13:10It just expands.
- 13:12So, oh, I can't have that kind of relationship.
- 13:14I'll never make that kind of money.
- 13:16And that's the next step in, in the evolution of when I work with people is what are your limiting beliefs?
- 13:21Right?
- 13:21What do you believe about yourself?
- 13:22I can tell you this, Denise.
- 13:24You guys are listening to this'cause she's a brilliant woman.
- 13:29Every single person I've ever worked with over the last 25 years, and we, we call it this, it's the onion of your life.
- 13:36Right.
- 13:37People talk in surface level language.
- 13:39Yeah.
- 13:39It's okay.
- 13:40You start peeling it away.
- 13:41Oh man, it's not okay because this happened.
- 13:43Or then you start getting the deeper feelings.
- 13:45Every single person.
- 13:48Right?
- 13:48Every single person.
- 13:50The core is self-worth.
- 13:53Mm-hmm.
- 13:54Self-worth, how I feel about myself determines the decisions I make, therefore, shapes the quality of life I ultimately have.
- 14:05So.
- 14:06Tagging into that self-worth part at the beginning.
- 14:10You mentioned your dad when you were eight said you were lazy.
- 14:15Is that a pivotal piece that eats your self-worth and then you play that track on repeat until you come into the other two pieces?
- 14:25You talked about free will and choice and decision, right?
- 14:28Absolutely.
- 14:29Yeah.
- 14:29So think about like your, think about your life like a giant building a wall.
- 14:36And everything that has been said you've done is a brick in that wall.
- 14:39Yeah.
- 14:40And it's being constructed throughout your years.
- 14:44Yeah.
- 14:44Everything you believe about yourself, most importantly, everything that has been said to you.
- 14:48Right.
- 14:49Everything you've done because of the things you believe about yourself constructs this life.
- 14:54Yeah.
- 14:54Right.
- 14:56NLP Neurolinguistic programming, these two gentlemen in Santa Cruz in 1970.
- 15:02Deciphered what the three best therapists in the world were doing at the time, and they extracted out mm-hmm.
- 15:09Their techniques and attitude, because if you could sit with like, let's say three billionaires and learn what they do, and they could teach you, you'd become a billionaire too.
- 15:19Well, these guys develop neurolinguistic programming and the basis of it really is, as we were talking about, it's the owner's manual of how the brain operates, and that's what was fascinating to me.
- 15:30I'm like, I never knew I did that before.
- 15:34Right.
- 15:35Because if you ha you, everybody's got a computer or a phone or some, a tablet or something.
- 15:39Mm-hmm.
- 15:39If it goes on the rye, if it goes wacky, right?
- 15:42And you could go, oh, I know how to do that.
- 15:43Take off the back and plug in a different, you know, motherboard or change the software, close it back up and it worked, done perfectly.
- 15:50That should be the way your life operates.
- 15:52But we're not taught how to work the owner's manual of the mind.
- 15:56And so therefore we choose to go back in our past and look at our past and go, it was their fault that happened to me.
- 16:03Therefore, I feel this way.
- 16:05Or, so the first, the first secret.
- 16:09Really is about awareness, right?
- 16:12It's about, that's everything, right?
- 16:13And ab, you've heard this a billion time, I'm sure.
- 16:17Absolutely.
- 16:17AA is all about that, right?
- 16:19I'm an alcoholic.
- 16:20Hi, I'm John, I'm alcoholic.
- 16:21That's awareness.
- 16:22You've gotta take ownership.
- 16:24As Dr.
- 16:24Wayne Dyer said, it's being responsible.
- 16:27He called it responsibility, responding with ability, right?
- 16:32And most people, we don't wanna do that because why?
- 16:36The unconscious brain mind.
- 16:37Mm-hmm.
- 16:38That runs 90% of us.
- 16:40It's number one prime directive.
- 16:42This is all it does.
- 16:4290% of it is there to keep us safe.
- 16:46Right, of course.
- 16:47Yeah.
- 16:47And new, new and something we want is not safe.
- 16:52Right.
- 16:52'cause it takes risk.
- 16:53Right.
- 16:54It, we wanna be comfortable and what they, what do they say?
- 16:57Life exists outside your comfort zone.
- 17:00Sure, sure.
- 17:01Yeah.
- 17:01Absolutely.
- 17:02And so if you want anything different folks than you have.
- 17:06Number one awareness.
- 17:08Mm-hmm.
- 17:09Is what you're doing working right?
- 17:11If not, you don't have to go inside of it and do therapy for a hundred years.
- 17:16I don't do that.
- 17:17Yeah.
- 17:17I just ask them, where do you wanna go instead?
- 17:20Right.
- 17:21Where would you rather be?
- 17:23Let's go there.
- 17:24The second process,'cause there's four steps in what they call the NLP Success formula is number one, outcome.
- 17:30Knowing what you want.
- 17:31Mm-hmm.
- 17:32Number two is taking some form of action.
- 17:35Yeah, exactly.
- 17:36You gotta that.
- 17:38In fact, in thinking Grow Rich in the book, that was the secret he kept alluding to.
- 17:41He never told you.
- 17:43It's, it's taking action.
- 17:44Because if you don't take action, I don't care how much you wanna go to New York on a plane, you're stuck.
- 17:49Right?
- 17:49Yeah, exactly.
- 17:51You gotta do something.
- 17:52The third piece is awareness, which mm-hmm is called, we say, is it working?
- 17:58Is what you're doing working right.
- 18:01Action.
- 18:02Excuse me.
- 18:03Outcome action awareness.
- 18:05Fourth piece to the secret is flexibility.
- 18:09Mm-hmm.
- 18:10You've gotta do something different other than what you just did if it didn't work.
- 18:14Right, right.
- 18:15Totally.
- 18:15Here's here, here's an example.
- 18:16Denise.
- 18:17Oh my God, all my relationships don't work out well.
- 18:20Here's outcome, action, awareness.
- 18:21They don't get the flexibility.
- 18:22They go, well, outcome, I want to be in a relationship.
- 18:24I take action.
- 18:25I go meet'em.
- 18:26I do all the wonderful things.
- 18:27Awareness.
- 18:28Is it working?
- 18:28No, it's not working.
- 18:29And they go back up to outcome again.
- 18:31Well, I'll go to the next relationship, outcome action.
- 18:34And they never get to the fourth piece of going, Hey, maybe I'm the common denominator that's not working right.
- 18:41Maybe it's me, right?
- 18:41Maybe if I grow, I'll attract a different kind of energy into my life.
- 18:46Absolutely.
- 18:47Yeah.
- 18:48I, I love what you're saying because that fourth piece I think, gets missed.
- 18:53That's why the cycle continues, right?
- 18:55That's the only reason the cycle continues.
- 18:57Yeah, that's right.
- 18:59Because as, as Einstein, literally, Einstein said this, the definition of insanity Yeah.
- 19:04Is doing the same thing over and over again and again and again expecting different results.
- 19:09Yeah.
- 19:10Well, that's where you're right, that's where the flexibility comes in.
- 19:13Yeah.
- 19:14I think another piece, and I, and I know it's woven into the four steps, but, um, the, the honest reflection that's required.
- 19:24Yeah.
- 19:24Yeah.
- 19:25Well, that's in the beginning.
- 19:26That comes from the very onset.
- 19:28You can't, you can't decide on where you want to go if you're stuck in the past.
- 19:33And that's where most people, their mindset is, oh, it's not working.
- 19:37It's not.
- 19:37You've gotta be honest.
- 19:38And I say this, and here's the thing that some my clients don't like.
- 19:41I say, look, I need permission to be brutally honest with you.
- 19:45Sure.
- 19:45Brutally honest.
- 19:47Yeah.
- 19:48'cause you are not.
- 19:48You are not.
- 19:49Yeah.
- 19:50Yeah.
- 19:50And if I am and I can help you see that, then maybe together we can say, Ooh, I'm stuck in quicksand, or Right.
- 19:58You know, you could have a wonderful life, but here's the thing, even millionaires want to want more in their life.
- 20:04Mm-hmm.
- 20:05If I'm, because that's money's measurable or the most fittest individual, and I was in the fitness industry for 25 years.
- 20:11Mm-hmm.
- 20:11Even the fittest individual wants better more.
- 20:14Mm-hmm.
- 20:14We always want, you can have a great relationship with your, your house, spice, whatever, whatever.
- 20:19You always want more.
- 20:20That's just natural progression of the unconscious mind.
- 20:23We want to keep moving forward.
- 20:25Mm-hmm.
- 20:26Well, and that's growth.
- 20:28Yeah.
- 20:28Yeah.
- 20:28And we should, and we should want growth.
- 20:31Absolutely.
- 20:31'cause otherwise we're stagnant.
- 20:33So thank you for that.
- 20:34'cause I think that's absolutely imperative.
- 20:37My, absolutely.
- 20:38My whole lifespan, my goal is to never stop learning.
- 20:42When I stop learning, it'll be my last breath.
- 20:45That's how I see life.
- 20:46Right?
- 20:47Yeah.
- 20:47The number one thing you could do for yourself.
- 20:49Yeah, because even if you don't wanna learn something, that thing may trigger another thought of, Hey, I never thought of that.
- 20:57What if I did that instead?
- 20:59Absolutely.
- 21:00Yeah.
- 21:01Doors open up as a result, and it's the whole premise of our conversation for you by you, because of you, the ball is in your court.
- 21:09What are you going to do with it?
- 21:11Are you going to set it down and walk away?
- 21:13Are you going to pick it up and try and play it?
- 21:15Or are you going to even do more than just that?
- 21:18Learn how to play it really, really well and try a new sport because that rolls into a new one.
- 21:23Right?
- 21:24So many options.
- 21:26You never know something.
- 21:27You know, people have always said this, I never thought I was gonna do this for the rest of my life.
- 21:30And I love it.
- 21:31Yeah.
- 21:31Well, how'd you, how'd you come across that?
- 21:33Well, it was a total accident.
- 21:34It was a fluke, Uhhuh, right?
- 21:37Or, or, here's the great thing about relationships.
- 21:40I never, I never, and I hear this a lot, I, I, I, I've been divorced twice.
- 21:45I don't wanna get in another relationship.
- 21:46It's never gonna happen.
- 21:47And then someone shows up that just Yep.
- 21:50Melts them.
- 21:51Yep.
- 21:51I never would've thought that.
- 21:53Yeah.
- 21:54That's just not the way the brain works People.
- 21:56We want what we want, want.
- 21:57Sometimes we don't even know what we want Exactly.
- 22:01But to be open and available to those possibilities is what Yep.
- 22:05Is absolutely life changing.
- 22:09Absolutely.
- 22:10You know that, that, that really is the secret, right?
- 22:12'cause if I could say anything to anyone about.
- 22:16Their life itself.
- 22:17Again, I don't care how, where you're at in your life, whether you're 13 or you're 73 years old, what do you want?
- 22:23Mm-hmm.
- 22:24What do you want?
- 22:25Yeah.
- 22:25'cause you're over 45 doesn't mean you stopped learning and you stop growing and you stop achieving.
- 22:31Heck, you know, I'm 65 and I, I think this is the best part of my life right now because I'm actually, I'm actually settled into who I'm, yeah.
- 22:40Yeah.
- 22:40I, I know now.
- 22:41And here's the, here's really.
- 22:44Wow.
- 22:44And this took me a long time to learn.
- 22:47You wanna know the one thing that keeps people stuck Yes.
- 22:50Is worrying about, is worrying about what other people think.
- 22:55That's it.
- 22:57I used to laugh.
- 22:59Denise.
- 22:59I used to laugh.
- 22:59My grandfather, he came over from Italy, couldn't speak English.
- 23:02He did really well.
- 23:03My, my dad was very famous and rich.
- 23:06Yeah, of course he was never home'cause he worked right for, I mean, not seven days a week.
- 23:10Literally.
- 23:11Yeah.
- 23:11Um, I, I learned that.
- 23:15I watched my grandfather and my grandmother communicate.
- 23:19They just didn't care about who was around them.
- 23:22Right.
- 23:23They didn't care if they were talking to a merchant.
- 23:24They didn't care.
- 23:27If they were talking to somebody else, they didn't care.
- 23:29Mm-hmm.
- 23:30And that's kind of the secret.
- 23:31I don't mean don't care about people's feelings.
- 23:32Of course.
- 23:33Yeah.
- 23:33But don't care about what other people think about you.
- 23:35Because if you do, then you're always Yeah.
- 23:38Well I know if I say that, then somebody's, I'm gonna hurt somebody's and you know, what am I gonna think about me?
- 23:43'cause that's not, it's really not about them.
- 23:45It's really about you and rejection and ridicule.
- 23:47That's really what it's about.
- 23:48Absolutely.
- 23:50I don't wanna be, I don't wanna be looked at like, you know, I'm some horrible person if I speak my mind.
- 23:54Yeah.
- 23:54Yeah.
- 23:54And it circle back and that's the key.
- 23:56And it circles back to what you were saying before, John, about your reflection of people coming back to you are a reflection of your soul.
- 24:05Absolutely.
- 24:05So, absolutely.
- 24:05If you're not releasing your soul into its truest form, all the stuff you're getting back, yeah.
- 24:10It's gonna be, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:12You know, I, I love, I love NLP because it's technical.
- 24:18It gives you formulas and techniques.
- 24:21Okay.
- 24:21Yeah.
- 24:21Of things to do.
- 24:22It's not just the what to do because I, I attended millions of seminars.
- 24:26Sure.
- 24:26It was always the what to do, but never the how to do it.
- 24:28Right?
- 24:28Yeah.
- 24:29Well, NLP wears formulas and techniques you could actually do.
- 24:31I'm like, wow, this is, I like this.
- 24:34I can gravitate towards, I can grasp these things and see if it works.
- 24:37I'm gonna teach you guys be gimme five minutes before we end because I wanna teach you guys something.
- 24:42Yep.
- 24:42Um.
- 24:43The word from the book, from my book, controlling Emotions Master Your Life.
- 24:48Yep.
- 24:49And some people does don't know this.
- 24:51Doesn't know this.
- 24:52What?
- 24:52Good grammar.
- 24:55I'm just, so I'm talking so fast.
- 24:56So I'm trying to get everything.
- 24:58Um, sorry folks.
- 24:59Um, the word emotions, if you look it up, it means to emote.
- 25:05Mm-hmm.
- 25:05It means to get things out.
- 25:08Yeah.
- 25:09So the one thing, if you do learn anything from this podcast that mm-hmm.
- 25:15Denise is posting, learn to express yourself.
- 25:23Mm-hmm.
- 25:24Learn to express yourself.
- 25:26I can tell you I've written, again, one of the first books I wrote was Stress Reduction.
- 25:32It's one of the things that a lot of people, I don't care how good or bad your life is, we all deal with stress.
- 25:36Some people more than others.
- 25:38Sure.
- 25:38But do you know stress is only because we don't emote, we don't give our feelings credence.
- 25:49We push'em down, we, we push'em in the back.
- 25:52I kind of equate it to this Denise in my, in my courses, my live courses, say, imagine you have this closet in your house and every time you feel something bad, you throw it in the closet and shut the door.
- 26:03Mm-hmm.
- 26:03Well, imagine if that closet was like your, your sports equipment closet.
- 26:08And every time you learned a new sport, you put all this equipment in there and after a while, the door's not gonna close.
- 26:13And you try and try and try with all this energy.
- 26:17To hold that door closed, but one right time, once like the volcano, it comes exploding open.
- 26:24And that's what happens with our feelings.
- 26:26Mm-hmm.
- 26:27You, you subside them, you push'em away, you hide them, sweep'em under the rug, shut'em down.
- 26:32After a while they come exploding out and usually it's in divorce.
- 26:38Mm-hmm.
- 26:38Bankruptcy.
- 26:39Mm-hmm.
- 26:40Suicide.
- 26:42Right.
- 26:42Mm-hmm.
- 26:43Bad friendships, whatever those are, rather than saying, God, I don't like the way this feels.
- 26:49Mm-hmm.
- 26:50Yep.
- 26:50I'm just gonna go find somebody to talk about it or talk to God, talk to the mirror.
- 26:55Right.
- 26:55You know, get it out of your body because the body.
- 26:59Holds the cortisol in your body.
- 27:01Yes.
- 27:02And creates stress.
- 27:02And after a long period of time, I can tell you this folks, because I studied cancer for 10 years, I can ask any cancer patient what happened three to five years ago.
- 27:10Mm-hmm.
- 27:10Before you were diagnosed.
- 27:12And they will always come up with something traumatic in their life.
- 27:15Mm-hmm.
- 27:16Every single person.
- 27:17Yeah.
- 27:17Yeah.
- 27:18Oh, I had a divorce.
- 27:19I lost a child.
- 27:20I, I, you know, I lost all my money.
- 27:22Um, you know, I broke a leg and I couldn't work for months and something happened where it shook their world up to cancer because cancer's always in us.
- 27:29Mm-hmm.
- 27:30Then it just thrives.
- 27:31Right?
- 27:32Absolutely.
- 27:33Absolutely.
- 27:35Um, thank you for that.
- 27:37Yep.
- 27:38Um, I would love to hear what you were gonna share.
- 27:42Five minutes.
- 27:43Yeah, give me your five minutes.
- 27:44It's gonna take, it's gonna take only one, but I wanna explain why because Absolutely.
- 27:49Yeah.
- 27:50Remember this folks.
- 27:52Your brain and your system.
- 27:53That's part of the neurolinguistic.
- 27:55The language that we use to our talk, to ourselves and to other people is the programming part.
- 28:01We literally program our minds by the words we use and we program other people, right?
- 28:05Neuro meaning mind, body.
- 28:07Mm-hmm.
- 28:07The mind body is gonna hold these emotions.
- 28:10It holds these belief systems in literally inside different parts of our body.
- 28:16Right.
- 28:17Different chakra points, right?
- 28:18Different meridian points if you're into that, into reiki and all this, right?
- 28:23And so what you wanna do is you wanna override those systems.
- 28:27You wanna override those feelings.
- 28:30And how you do it is you've gotta talk to yourself.
- 28:34More empowering than that negative belief, okay?
- 28:38Mm-hmm.
- 28:39That's, it's that simple folks.
- 28:40But I'm gonna give you the words to use to actually change your life.
- 28:44Brilliant.
- 28:44Literally, because it changed mine within a couple of months, and I mean a couple, it probably would've done it sooner if I was more serious.
- 28:53Okay.
- 28:53There's two things that create patterns in our lives.
- 28:56Mm-hmm.
- 28:57One is emotion.
- 28:58The intensity of the emotion.
- 29:00Yes.
- 29:00Because you never forget stuff that's really intense.
- 29:03For sure.
- 29:03Like if I asked you, what were you doing two weeks ago, Tuesday?
- 29:07Brushing your teeth, you'd be like, I, I don't even know what was going on.
- 29:10Right.
- 29:10But if I said, somebody called and said, you just hit the lotto, you'd never forget that.
- 29:14Yeah.
- 29:15Right.
- 29:15So emotion and repetition, those are the two things that create programs in our lives, right?
- 29:21Yeah.
- 29:22Yeah.
- 29:22So here's what we're gonna do.
- 29:23We're gonna recite to ourselves mm-hmm.
- 29:27Three simple words.
- 29:29Mm-hmm.
- 29:29And we're gonna say'em three times.
- 29:31That's one round.
- 29:33And then we're gonna do it again.
- 29:34We're gonna do it again.
- 29:35And each time you say it, you're gonna get more intense, more loud, and more confident.
- 29:40You ready guys?
- 29:41You ready?
- 29:41People ready?
- 29:42We're ready.
- 29:43We're ready.
- 29:45The word is, because this hits your core of what we're talking about.
- 29:49Self-worth.
- 29:50Ready?
- 29:50Yes.
- 29:51I like myself.
- 29:53Mm-hmm.
- 29:54I like myself.
- 29:58I like myself.
- 30:01And the more emotion that you put behind it, your brain.
- 30:06Your unconscious program, which runs 90% of us will eventually go, wow.
- 30:11Hey, I like myself, love that.
- 30:14And it overrides the negative self worth.
- 30:17Now here's the, here's the deal folks.
- 30:20You can't go like this.
- 30:21I like myself.
- 30:22Yeah.
- 30:23I, I like myself.
- 30:26I like myself.
- 30:29You gotta mean it.
- 30:31If you look, don't, don't bother.
- 30:33Do not bother doing this if you're gonna do it half-ass.
- 30:36Can I say that?
- 30:37Absolutely.
- 30:38Absolutely.
- 30:38It'll, it'll work.
- 30:39It'll make it actually make it even worse, right?
- 30:42Yeah.
- 30:43So pick a time to start like, I'm gonna, this Monday, I'm gonna clear all the cobwebs.
- 30:47I'm gonna clear my mind and I'm gonna start, and I'm gonna do this three times in a row.
- 30:51And maybe I might do it 10 times a day.
- 30:53I did it literally as much if I wasn't with people.
- 30:56And sometimes I did it once in the, in the, I did it once in the bank, in the line at the bank.
- 31:00People thought I was crazy.
- 31:01Who cares?
- 31:02They care more towards me.
- 31:05Exactly right.
- 31:06Working on me.
- 31:08Hey.
- 31:08And they probably went, wow, that guy's really powerful.
- 31:10I don't know.
- 31:11Maybe I like myself, I like myself, I like myself.
- 31:18Mm-hmm.
- 31:19You do that enough.
- 31:20I promise you, with the motion and repetition, you'll override your negative program and your life will start changing because now you start looking at other people going, I don't care what they think, because I think myself.
- 31:33And because now you don't care about what people think.
- 31:35And again, we talk about not their feelings, but what they think about you.
- 31:39You'll start taking better risks, bigger risks, more empowering risks.
- 31:44Mm-hmm.
- 31:44And then the result will be you'll start achieving more.
- 31:48You'll step into yourself.
- 31:49Right.
- 31:51Your identity.
- 31:52Yeah, totally.
- 31:53Yeah.
- 31:53For you, by you because of you.
- 31:57I love that.
- 31:59I love that.
- 32:00So do I.
- 32:01You're You're awesome.
- 32:03You're like one of the best podcast hosts I've ever.

- 32:58NLP guru app.
