- 0:00Hello. There I'm Tyler Griffin and this
- 0:03is. Scripture study.
- 0:04Insights by Scripture Central Today, Second Nephi, Chapters 6
- 0:10through 10 and. If you look at all of the
- 0:14chapters of Scripture, there are a couple of places where you get
- 0:18some chapters that just really. Stand out as far as helping us
- 0:23to understand our relationship to God, our relationship to
- 0:27Jesus. Christ and these chapters.
- 0:30That we're going to cover today definitely fall on a very short
- 0:34list of those shining, shining stars in our scriptural Canon.
- 0:41It's all about a relationship. A relationship between God and
- 0:52Jesus Christ and us. Any relationship has these.
- 0:59These two parts there are. Things that I put into the
- 1:03relationship and there are things.
- 1:05That I get out of the relationship.
- 1:09There are things that God puts in, and there are things that.
- 1:13He will get out. And.
- 1:15As you study these chapters this week or or today, pay close
- 1:21attention to this little. Dynamic in your scripture study
- 1:27of even even to this point, even the very act of.
- 1:33Reading these chapters or? One chapter or one verse, or
- 1:37however much you happen to read, Instead of seeing it as
- 1:40something that you're doing on the side, see it as something
- 1:46that you're putting into the. Relationship where you're
- 1:50trying. To come to know.
- 1:52God better. Trying to understand what?
- 1:55He has. Put into this capacity.
- 1:57For you. To come together with him and to
- 2:01discover more of his laws, his promises, his warnings, his
- 2:08directions and feel like it's more of a relationship building
- 2:15experience rather than a. Check box.
- 2:18Saying, yeah, I read my scriptures so I don't need to
- 2:20feel guilty about not not doing what I'm supposed to do today.
- 2:24It's a completely different relationship when when it
- 2:28becomes more of this covenantal connection rather than a
- 2:33transactional because I read my scriptures now, God better give
- 2:37me this blessing that I'm desiring That's that's not as.
- 2:41Healthy of a way. To approach relationship as it
- 2:44is to go in saying God's thoughts and ways are higher
- 2:48than mine, I want to. Figure out what?
- 2:50He has in store for me and I want to give him my life.
- 2:56I want to give him my love. I want to give him my loyalty
- 3:00and my, my energy. Everything that he's given to
- 3:03me, I want to give it back. So with that, let's jump in and
- 3:08watch. Jacob as he does.
- 3:10Just that. Exactly what we just got through
- 3:13describing. So if you jump into chapter six
- 3:17through 10, what you'll notice is there's this same pattern
- 3:22that you get. A prophet who?
- 3:26Is going to give you an introduction.
- 3:29To a topic A. Principle a doctrine, or in this
- 3:33case, some Isaiah chapters. Then you.
- 3:36Get you get a couple of verses, 5 verses.
- 3:39In chapter 6 from Isaiah and then you get 7 and eight are all
- 3:45from. Isaiah Jacob's.
- 3:48Just going to be quoting them to the people and then you get 9
- 3:53through 10. Which is Jacob.
- 3:56'S Commentary. So again, let's not be.
- 4:04Anxious or frustrated with. How sometimes it's difficult to
- 4:09understand Isaiah. But look at what God has
- 4:14provided. To us, to help us unlock more of
- 4:18the meaning, to discover more of our relationship with Him within
- 4:22the context of this, these Isaiah passages and by looking
- 4:28at what? Jacob says about Isaiah before
- 4:31he reads. It And then what he says about.
- 4:33Isaiah after he read it. It helps you unlock some of the
- 4:37more. Difficult passages that are.
- 4:40Within. That or those chapters.
- 4:43So let's jump in verse one. The words of Jacob, the brother
- 4:47of. Nephi, which he spake unto the
- 4:48people of Nephi. It's possible that that verse.
- 4:53Could have also been put in as a.
- 4:56Heading for the chapter? You'll see that in a in a couple
- 4:59of other places in the Book of Mormon where instead of having
- 5:02it be a verse, it's written by the original authors, in this
- 5:06case Nephi, who's scribing what's going on with.
- 5:09His brother, Jacob. That would have.
- 5:12Probably been a better heading. So.
- 5:15You look at verse. Two, the beginning of his
- 5:17speech. Behold, my beloved brethren, I
- 5:20Jacob, having been called of God, and ordained after the
- 5:26manner of his. Holy order.
- 5:28And having been consecrated by my brother Nephi, unto whom you
- 5:32look as a king. Or a protector.
- 5:34And on whom you depend. For safety, behold you.
- 5:37Know that I've spoken unto you exceedingly many things.
- 5:41So for starters. Jacob is invoking.
- 5:44Look, I am not here on my own. I'm.
- 5:47Here speaking. To you because Nephi, unto whom
- 5:51you look as the king, the protector, and in in our context
- 5:54the Prophet, he's appointed me to do this.
- 5:59But more importantly, I've been called of God.
- 6:04So in helping us come into. A relationship with God.
- 6:07What does he do? He calls prophets.
- 6:09He calls teachers. He calls priests.
- 6:12As Jacob and Joseph have been ordained by Nephi to do and so.
- 6:17They're all these resources. And now we're going to get
- 6:20scripture and past prophets coming into this, this mix, all
- 6:28which are things that God has put into or invested into the
- 6:33relationship with you. Of course the.
- 6:35Biggest gift that God has invested in this relationship is
- 6:41His only begotten Son Jesus Christ and the Savior is going
- 6:45to show up everywhere in these. Chapters as well as.
- 6:49In all of the. Scriptures for God so loved the
- 6:51world that he gave. His only begotten son, that is.
- 6:54That is the single biggest thing.
- 6:56And. Jesus gave his very.
- 6:59Life, His infinite atonement, which is a central feature.
- 7:03Of this speech that Jacob. Is going to give to the people.
- 7:06So you jump down to verse four and it says and now.
- 7:10Behold, I would speak. Unto you concerning things,
- 7:12which. Are.
- 7:13And which are to come, wherefore I will.
- 7:16Read you the words. Of Isaiah, and they are the
- 7:19words which my. Brother has desired.
- 7:21That I should speak unto you, I speak unto you for your sakes,
- 7:25that you may learn and glorify the name.
- 7:29Of your God. He's trying to help us deepen
- 7:34our connection with God and to learn the name.
- 7:38You're you're going to find that the name is revealed to him.
- 7:42Of how the Savior? Is going to be.
- 7:44Referred. In in our day.
- 7:46As Christ. That will come in chapter 10
- 7:51after. He reads Isaiah, which I like
- 7:54that. The more we immerse in Isaiah
- 7:57and in the. Words of Scriptures, the words
- 7:58of the. Prophets, the more we come to
- 8:00learn and glorify the name. Of our God.
- 8:05Which a little distinction here. Everybody is invited.
- 8:09To bear. Testimony of Jesus Christ, but
- 8:12it's prophets, seers, and revelators.
- 8:14It's it's the apostles who have this.
- 8:18Special mission to bear witness of the name of Jesus Christ in
- 8:25all the world. And that's so I guess what I'm
- 8:30saying here is Jacob is taking on kind of this Apostolic.
- 8:34Role with the people. Referring to learning and
- 8:38glorifying the name. Of our God.
- 8:41So verse five, He tells you the words which I shall read Are
- 8:46they which? Isaiah spake concerning.
- 8:48All the House of Israel. So then he goes on to say look.
- 8:52Because you're of the House of. Israel, you can liken these.
- 8:55Words to you. There are so many.
- 8:58Layers. And levels of likening that you
- 9:04were going to find in these chapters.
- 9:06Today. Just because.
- 9:07You're not an Nephite. Doesn't mean you can't read the
- 9:10exact same words and find incredible abilities to liken
- 9:16these words to you and to. See your story.
- 9:19Which will deepen your relationship with God today on
- 9:23these pages. So now let's jump in verse six
- 9:26and seven. Are the 1st 2:00.
- 9:29Verses that are now being quoted by Jacob from Isaiah and.
- 9:35These words should. Ring a little.
- 9:37Bit of a bell you've heard these before.
- 9:40In the book, Mormon verse six and seven says and now.
- 9:42These are the words. Thus.
- 9:44Saith the Lord God. Behold, I will set up my hand to
- 9:48the Gentiles and set up my standard to the people.
- 9:51And then he goes on to talk about how the Gentile kings and
- 9:55the Queens will be the nursing fathers and the nursing mothers.
- 9:59To the House of. Israel bringing them home well.
- 10:03This quote. Comes from Isaiah chapter 49 and
- 10:09Isaiah 49 the entire. Chapter was quoted by Nephi.
- 10:14Back in first Nephi, Chapter 21, chapter 20 and 21.
- 10:19Was Isaiah 48? And Isaiah 49.
- 10:22So this is a repeat. He's talking about how the
- 10:25Gentiles will be carry. The the House of.
- 10:28Israel on their shoulders and be their nursing fathers and
- 10:31nursing mothers. This has been fulfilled multiple
- 10:35times at multiple levels over multiple dispensations and years
- 10:43going. Back Cyrus of Persia.
- 10:45Was the first one to. Fulfill this prophecy.
- 10:48In 539 BC, when he brings the children of Israel back into
- 10:54Jerusalem after they've been exiled in Babylon.
- 10:56And it's going to happen again in a variety of other ways and
- 11:01we can liken it. To our day today as we go out.
- 11:06And assist in this great gathering effort, the President
- 11:11Nelson has told us, is the most important work happening in.
- 11:15All the earth. And there's nothing more more.
- 11:19Valuable that we could. Spend our time assisting the
- 11:22Lord in then gathering these people.
- 11:25Why? So that we can gather them into
- 11:29a relationship with God and with us and.
- 11:33Grow these. This Zion feel and.
- 11:38Literally to build up the. Kingdom of God on the earth, so
- 11:44notice what happens. He quotes 2 verses 6 and.
- 11:47Seven and then verse eight, he says.
- 11:50And now I Jacob would speak somewhat concerning these words.
- 11:54So if the Isaiah passage in chapter 6 verse seven and or six
- 11:58and seven if you find it any any if you find difficulty in
- 12:02interpreting it then. Just look at how.
- 12:05Jacob the prophet who's reading it to the people.
- 12:08Look at how he. Interprets it.
- 12:10He gives you all kinds of commentary in in verse 8.
- 12:15Through. 15 He's describing what that means and what the Gentiles
- 12:20are going to do, and how God is going to bless the Gentiles and
- 12:26instead of just reading it as a history.
- 12:27Book. What if we read it?
- 12:29As a handbook of instruction for us today, to say, I want those
- 12:36promises, I want those blessings, I want that
- 12:39relationship with God. So it's not about checking boxes
- 12:44and jumping through hoops or jumping over hurdles in order to
- 12:46try to get somewhere. It's about a relationship where
- 12:51I find myself in the. Safety of this, this.
- 12:55Connection with. God with Jesus Christ.
- 12:58Because I'm. I'm striving to rely more on him
- 13:02and you can see his. Attributes, his characteristics
- 13:05everywhere. On this page as Jacob's talking
- 13:08about this. So verse eight through. 15 in
- 13:12your study you can. Read those as Jacob.
- 13:16'S interpretation and see how they are likened.
- 13:18To your story. So I love, I love the set up
- 13:24here. In Isaiah 49, for now, what
- 13:27comes in Isaiah 50, which is what he's going to to lead out
- 13:33with in chapter seven? Yeah, thus saith the Lord.
- 13:38So picture Jesus Christ speaking these words directly to you.
- 13:43Have I put the away or have I cast the off forever?
- 13:47Now watch what happens you. Get these couplets.
- 13:50With Isaiah you get 2 tellings of the same thing, usually with
- 13:57symbols involved. So this symbolic repetition.
- 14:02Watch how many times it happens in verse one.
- 14:05Have I put the away? Have I cast the off forever now?
- 14:10Here comes another one. For thus saith the Lord, where
- 14:13is the bill? Of your mother's divorcement, to
- 14:16whom have I put thee away? Or to which of my creditors have
- 14:20I sold you? Yeah.
- 14:21To whom have I sold? You.
- 14:24Behold for your iniquities. Have ye sold yourselves?
- 14:27And for your transgressions is your mother put away, so instead
- 14:32of looking at. This as.
- 14:34Oh no, my. Life is so bad because all these
- 14:37terrible. Things are happening and and it
- 14:39must be because God, God doesn't care for me anymore, he's
- 14:43saying. Have I have I put you?
- 14:46Off Have I given you a? A bill of.
- 14:49Divorcement. Have I sold you to somebody
- 14:51else? I'm in a permanent relationship
- 14:55with you. God does not break covenants.
- 14:58Jesus Christ is a covenant keeper.
- 15:02Not just a covenant maker, but a covenant keeper.
- 15:05And he won't let anybody. Fall through the cracks.
- 15:10Because of his neglect. Or because he cuts.
- 15:13Them off. He gives you the the.
- 15:15Reason why sometimes we feel distant.
- 15:19Verse 2 Wherefore when I came there was no man.
- 15:21When I called you there was none to answer.
- 15:23O House of Israel, is my hand shortened, and all that it
- 15:26cannot redeem, Or have I no. Power to deliver.
- 15:29He's asking these rhetorical questions, saying, look, I I am
- 15:35not forsaking you. And then?
- 15:39The rest of the chapter. He gives these promises of how
- 15:43you can liken this, this covenantal relationship from
- 15:50Isaiah's day into. Our day today.
- 15:54Isaiah finishes this. Chapter Chapter 50.
- 15:57That now Jacob is quoting here. With two.
- 16:00Verses that are often, sometimes hard to understand.
- 16:05Look at verse 10. Who is among you?
- 16:07That feareth the Lord. That obey the voice of his
- 16:11servants that walketh in darkness, and hath no.
- 16:14Light, He's asking A. Question.
- 16:16But sometimes people miss the question mark and then it makes
- 16:20it feel almost as if they're being told look if you if.
- 16:24You follow the Lord. And the voice of His servants,
- 16:26Then you're going to walk in darkness and have no light.
- 16:28You're just going to have to walk by complete faith alone
- 16:31without being able to see anything.
- 16:33That question mark at the end is.
- 16:34Beautiful because it gives. You this context of saying look,
- 16:38show me somebody. Who?
- 16:39Follows the Lord and listens to the voice of his servants who's
- 16:42walking in the dark. And then verse 11, Behold all ye
- 16:46that. Kindle Fire.
- 16:48And that compass. Yourselves about with Sparks.
- 16:51Walk in the light of. Your fire.
- 16:55And in the. Sparks which ye have.
- 16:57Kindled. In other words, if you choose
- 16:59not to walk in the light of the. Lord, you can.
- 17:01Try to kindle your own fire, but what's the outcome This shall
- 17:06you have of mine Hand ye. Shall.
- 17:08Lie down in sorrow. It won't last.
- 17:13There is nothing this world has to.
- 17:15Offer you. That will last.
- 17:17It will. Those sparks, Those little.
- 17:20Flames of of people agreeing with you of.
- 17:25Of whatever. Teachings or Doctrines or.
- 17:27Ideals or lifestyles that you feel like you've.
- 17:31Justified to a certain degree, and you're walking in that light
- 17:36that you've kindled, he says. You're going to lie down in.
- 17:39Sorrow. Why?
- 17:41Because you. Are not in a relationship with.
- 17:43God, you've created a. Relationship somewhere else?
- 17:48With other people, With other ideals, With other laws,
- 17:53principles, practices. That are not divine truth.
- 17:58Now in in chapter 8 He. He talks about this.
- 18:03Incredible reversal of what I bring into this relationship is
- 18:09usually bad, and how God turns those bad things into good
- 18:12things so. Look at verse 3 for the Lord
- 18:17shall. Comfort Zion, have you noticed
- 18:22that the scriptures don't usually say that?
- 18:24We comfort God. It's always.
- 18:26God, who's comforting us, Which means I'm bringing into.
- 18:30This relationship discomfort, I'm.
- 18:33Bringing in anguish, trial, tribulation, and what is God?
- 18:37Giving to the relationship. In this connection with me, he's
- 18:42giving comfort. I love how it.
- 18:44Says he will make. Her wilderness like.
- 18:46Eden and her desert, like the garden of the Lord.
- 18:50Joy and gladness shall be found there in Thanksgiving and the
- 18:53voice of Melody. Oh, I love Isaiah.
- 18:57I love the way he. Speaks it.
- 18:59It paints this. Symbolic picture of God.
- 19:02Taking the. Desolate trials and struggles.
- 19:06And weakness that I bring into the relationship.
- 19:09And he makes them fruitful. He makes them beautiful.
- 19:14He make, He brings in joy and gladness and Thanksgiving in the
- 19:18voice of melody. Where there was.
- 19:22Cacophony. Now you get this melodious
- 19:25feeling attached. And then?
- 19:28He says verse. Five, My righteousness is near.
- 19:32My salvation is gone. Forth two things he brings into.
- 19:37The relationship his. Righteousness His salvation.
- 19:40In fact, some of you have. Probably noticed this already
- 19:43starting in verse. In this chapter, look at how
- 19:48many times the personal pronouns of I, my, me and mine are used.
- 19:54Describing what? Christ is offering to.
- 19:57Us and what he's bringing. So let's look.
- 20:00At verse 6. He invites you and me.
- 20:03Lift up your. Eyes to the heavens and look
- 20:05upon the earth beneath. For the heavens shall vanish
- 20:08away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment,
- 20:11and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner.
- 20:13But my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness
- 20:17shall not be abolished. So all the things that the
- 20:19earth. Has to offer you.
- 20:21They're going to melt. Away it's it's going to go.
- 20:23Away. But my righteousness, my
- 20:26salvation will never go. Away because they're eternal.
- 20:29So if we continually think celestial, as President Nelson
- 20:34has invited, then we'll see the eternal nature of this
- 20:37covenantal relationship with Christ, that it's not fleeting
- 20:41like the things of. This earth are.
- 20:44And then he tells us again, Hearken unto me ye that no
- 20:48righteousness the people in whose.
- 20:50Hearts, I have written. My law again.
- 20:54The law. The commandments aren't there to
- 20:57punish us. They're there to.
- 20:58Connect us in a relationship with God, and then he gives you
- 21:04multiple invitations to awake, awake, arise.
- 21:09Remember when Lehigh was talking to Layman and Lemuel?
- 21:11He's using this awake and arise, shake off the dust and the
- 21:15chains. He's probably getting that from.
- 21:18His deep study of Isaiah because Isaiah's words.
- 21:22Have now become. Lehigh's words.
- 21:24That's that's what prophets often do.
- 21:28As they. Quote Past prophets their their
- 21:30words. Become their own.
- 21:33So the rest of chapter. Eight you can just mark.
- 21:37All of the verbs. All of the invitations or or
- 21:41laws. That God gives us these
- 21:44abilities we have. To now come into.
- 21:46This deeper relationship. With him now, I have spent most
- 21:49of the time in chapter seven and eight, because most people when
- 21:55they. Read Chapter 6 through.
- 21:57Ten are going to spend most of their time probably in Chapter
- 22:009, and a little bit of 10, and very little in seven and eight.
- 22:03So I've tried to. Compensate for that and give
- 22:06some scripture. Study ideas.
- 22:08Of how to connect? With Christ a little bit better.
- 22:11In those Isaiah passages, and. There are a lot.
- 22:15Of incredible resources in Chapter 9 and 10 that are going
- 22:20to connect. You with the Lord.
- 22:22Covenantally look at verse. I'll give just a.
- 22:26Couple of examples. Verse one now, my beloved.
- 22:29Brethren I have read. These things that would be the
- 22:31Isaiah's passages that have just come before that you might know
- 22:35concerning the covenants of the. Lord.
- 22:37That he has covenanted. With all the House of Israel.
- 22:41So it's this. Covenant relationship that he's
- 22:45saying, look. I read you these.
- 22:48So that you can know what. God has offered you.
- 22:53That he has spoken unto the Jews by the mouth of.
- 22:55His holy prophets. Even from the beginning down
- 22:58from generation to generation until the time comes.
- 23:01They shall be restored to the true.
- 23:03Church and full of God, and that they can be gathered home.
- 23:07So this gathering is mentioned again, and he invites them to
- 23:11lift up their heart and rejoice because of this connection with
- 23:15Christ, not because of anything the world has to offer, not
- 23:17because of what I. Have to offer, but because of
- 23:20what Christ has to offer us. And then he gets into this
- 23:25beautiful discussion of the infinite Atonement.
- 23:28So in quick. Overview You get verse.
- 23:32Six and seven that and eight. That refer to this.
- 23:37Infinite atonement that if Jesus doesn't perform an infinite
- 23:42atonement. Our bodies would die.
- 23:45And crumble to Mother earth to rise no more verse seven and
- 23:49then verse. Eight if our bodies.
- 23:51Rise no more than our spirits have to become subject unto the
- 23:53devil, and in verse 8-9 we become angels.
- 23:57To the devil. And then he says, to rise no
- 24:00more, so the last. 4 words of verse. 7.
- 24:04Are. Repeated as the last. 4 words of
- 24:06verse 8 your body will. Rise no more and your spirit
- 24:09will rise no more. That's a 2 headed monster called
- 24:12Death and Hell and he mentions that awful monster in verse 10.
- 24:17Verse eight said, O, the wisdom of God, Verse 13.
- 24:21O How great the. Plan of our God, verse 17 O the
- 24:25greatness and the justice. Of our God.
- 24:28Are you seeing these? Attributes, Characteristics of
- 24:30God, these abilities. That when you come into a
- 24:34relationship, the relationship changes you.
- 24:38You're not coming to the relationship just so you can be
- 24:40taken somewhere. You come into the relationship
- 24:42so that you can give and feel more love, more power, more
- 24:50knowledge, and to be. Able to help others.
- 24:52To come into that as well, can you see why Jacob is using this
- 24:56phrase? Oh, how great.
- 24:57And oh the goodness so verse 19 Oh the greatness of the mercy of
- 25:03God. Because he delivers his.
- 25:05Saints, verse 20 Oh, how great the holiness of our God.
- 25:08Verse 21 And He cometh into the world, that he may save all men,
- 25:12if they will hearken unto his. Voice for behold, he suffereth
- 25:16the. Pains of all men, Yeah.
- 25:18The pains of every living creature, both men, women, and
- 25:21children, who belong to the family of.
- 25:23Adam brothers and sisters. When you're in a true covenantal
- 25:28relationship with someone, you feel empathy.
- 25:33You feel compassion when they're.
- 25:35Hurting you hurt. When they're struggling, you
- 25:41strengthen them. You you share the load with.
- 25:45Them you don't just love them because of what you can get out
- 25:48of them, You love them because of what you can experience.
- 25:51Together. That's the beauty.
- 25:54Of a marriage, The beauty of a family, the beauty of a true
- 25:56companionship. The.
- 25:58The. Beauty of this covenant
- 25:59relationship with God. Is that these resources?
- 26:03These abilities, these capacities, become shared.
- 26:06They become. Ours.
- 26:08There are three. Levels in relationship, it's me,
- 26:11it's thee, and it's we. So instead of staying in the
- 26:17what's in it for me? Level or in the play the martyr
- 26:22role, OK, what's in it for thee? I won't take anything out of it.
- 26:27The relationship power is that it becomes all about we.
- 26:36It's not just me and it's not just the it's what's happening
- 26:40for us in this relationship and and how are we growing together.
- 26:45And I love I love Chapter 9 because it helps me feel more.
- 26:54The. Reality of what Christ has to
- 26:56offer. And it's not just the the
- 27:01beautiful oh statements. He then shifts into these these
- 27:07dreadful woe statements because. There are other.
- 27:11Things trying to pull you and me in other directions, so notice.
- 27:16He says the verse. 28 Oh the cunning plan of that evil, 10
- 27:20the vainness and the frailties and the foolishness of men, For
- 27:25when they are learned, they think.
- 27:27They are wise. And they hearken not unto the
- 27:29counsels of God for. They set it aside.
- 27:30Supposing they know of themselves.
- 27:32Wherefore their. Wisdom is foolishness and it
- 27:35profiteth them not, and they shall perish.
- 27:39So if we think that because we know some things were learned,
- 27:44that we now no longer need God and His wisdom or what the
- 27:48prophets are telling us He's saying you're going, it's it's
- 27:53going to profit you not, and it's you're going to perish.
- 27:57Verse 29 But to be learned. Is good if you could circle the
- 28:03word if. This is a beautiful conditional
- 28:06statement. If they hearken under the
- 28:08counsels of God, God doesn't want you in a covenant
- 28:12relationship saying, I don't need to study my scriptures.
- 28:14I don't need to learn languages and and cultures and things that
- 28:19that God wants me to learn. I'm just going to sit back and
- 28:23relax in this relationship. No, He wants you to be learned,
- 28:26but he wants you to hearken unto the counsels of God.
- 28:32And then he gives you some other people or other temptations.
- 28:35The. Rich who despise the poor.
- 28:38And persecute the meek. People whose?
- 28:41Money has become their. God.
- 28:44They're now in a relationship, a transactional relationship with
- 28:48that money and it has become. Their God.
- 28:54It's replaced. That relationship.
- 28:56That covenant relationship. Here.
- 28:59Verse 31 the. People who refuse to hear the
- 29:02words of the Lord, the people who refuse to look to God.
- 29:06And it it keeps going then the you get multiple woes all the
- 29:11way down to through. Verse 38.
- 29:14And then in the. Rest you get.
- 29:16These invitations of therefore. What?
- 29:20What should I? Do to not fall into these
- 29:24forbidden paths. Or strange roads that would.
- 29:26Lead me away from a covenant relationship with with God.
- 29:31And if you read the. Rest of the chapter.
- 29:33Pay attention. He's going to say things like.
- 29:36Verse 45 Where. O my beloved brethren, turn away
- 29:40from your sins. Shake off the chains.
- 29:44Verse 46. Prepare your souls for that
- 29:46glorious day, Verse 50. Come, my brethren, everyone
- 29:52that's thirsteth come you to. The waters.
- 29:55And he that hath no money, come by, and eat ye come by wine and
- 30:01milk, without money and without. Price.
- 30:04Don't spend money for that which is of no worth, nor your labor
- 30:08nor. Labor for that which.
- 30:09Cannot satisfy. Jacob, this great prophet.
- 30:14Is inviting. Us to to just stay laser locked
- 30:18focused. On our relationship connection.
- 30:22With Jesus Christ through. The covenant that he offers.
- 30:24Us. And then he says K I'm.
- 30:28Tired We're. We're going to finish this talk.
- 30:31Tomorrow, verse 54 tells you that he'll.
- 30:35Declare the remainder of His words on the Morrow.
- 30:37Amen. And then chapter 10.
- 30:40If you read chapter. 10 Pay attention to how he describes
- 30:45the land that God has given to these Nephites, the land of
- 30:51their possessions, in order to help them.
- 30:54Fulfill all. Parts of that covenant, so in
- 30:56chapter 10 verse. Three, he says.
- 30:58Wherefore. As I said unto you, it must
- 31:00needs be expedient that Christ from the last night the Angel,
- 31:04speak unto me that this should be his name.
- 31:07Don't you love that? Jacob gave this great talk to
- 31:11the people. He read them two chapters, and
- 31:14and. 65 verses. From Isaiah the day before said
- 31:19tomorrow I'll finish my message. He went home that night an Angel
- 31:23comes to him and shares with him that the name should be Christ.
- 31:32And then he comes back and. Finishes his his address.
- 31:35Having learned that new piece of information.
- 31:39I love that. As we immerse in the Scriptures,
- 31:45Jesus Christ and what He has done for us should become more
- 31:48and more clear. The Lord will reveal.
- 31:51Things to us. And it's a process.
- 31:53It takes time, and it's not until Chapter 25 that Nephi is
- 31:57going to. To have revealed.
- 31:59To him that the full name by which he's going to be known is.
- 32:04Jesus Christ. So here you get.
- 32:06Christ in verse three and 2nd ephi 25 gives you the complete
- 32:11name Jesus Christ. Which is right after Nephi has
- 32:16read to the people or? Given that huge block of Isaiah.
- 32:21Chapter 2 through chapter. 14 the what?
- 32:26We call them the big Isaiah Block.
- 32:28In the Book of Mormon, and right after that he learns the name of
- 32:30Jesus. Christ.
- 32:32Now to finish off, go to verse 24, Wherefore my beloved
- 32:37brethren reconcile. Yourselves to the will.
- 32:40Of God and not to the. Will of the devil.
- 32:43And the flesh and remember after ye are reconciled unto God, that
- 32:49it is only in and. Through the grace.
- 32:52Of God. That ye are saved.
- 32:55Don't think that by you coming into this relationship saves you
- 33:01because of what you did. It's only after you've
- 33:05reconciled yourself to God, you've entered into this
- 33:08covenant connection with him. It's only by.
- 33:11Grace that you are saved. I love that.
- 33:15I love the. Lord.
- 33:16I love what he offers to us. And what a beautiful opportunity
- 33:22for each of us now to move forward.
- 33:24Whether, whether you're facing. Death, whether you're facing
- 33:27disease, whether you're facing loss of of work or.
- 33:32Loss of relationships. With other people.
- 33:35Or whatever the struggle. Might be to recognize don't turn
- 33:41to these. Other sources that the world has
- 33:44to offer us. Turn to God.
- 33:48Look to Jesus Christ. And.
- 33:51Look to the scriptures. As a means whereby you can find
- 33:56those covenantal connections with him and he will.
- 33:59Bless your life. In ways that none of these
- 34:04earthly resources can, may the Lord.
- 34:06Bless each of us. In our efforts not just to come
- 34:10into this covenant relationship more.
- 34:12Fully with Jesus Christ. But to do a better job of
- 34:15helping others recognize God's. Power.
- 34:19His goodness, his mercy. His Grace.
- 34:23And bring them with you into that covenant relationship with
- 34:27him. And as we do, it will strengthen
- 34:29your relationship and your covenant relationship with them
- 34:33as well. And I leave that with you in the
- 34:36name. Of Jesus Christ.
- 34:39Amen. Know that you're loved.

- 35:43This helps build our faith that God is continually guiding us
- 35:46and speaking to us through his living prophets.
- 35:50The middle pathway goes in depth on the Atonement of Jesus
- 35:53Christ. This pathway splits into two
- 35:56sections, one on the understanding the redemptive
- 35:59power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and the second one
- 36:03taking a look into the physical nature of Christ's sacrifice.
- 36:08The last pathway explores the hopeful message of the gospel,
- 36:11which Jacob shares with us as well as his prophetic warnings
- 36:15If we fail to keep the commandments of God, thanks for
- 36:18watching with us. We hope you become a more
- 36:21devoted disciple through immersing yourselves more fully
- 36:24in the scriptures each day.
