- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi, friends, Megan and Wendy Here and in honor of
- 0:02Speaker 1: Hallmark airing The Chicken Sisters on Hallmark Channel, we are
- 0:06Speaker 1: re airing our original reviews and recaps of these episodes
- 0:11Speaker 1: that were originally recorded back in September and October of
- 0:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. So enjoy the Chicken Sisters and enjoy
- 0:19Speaker 1: these recaps and reviews. This is a bramble Jam podcast. O. Thanks, Thanks.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Go One Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I'm Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy.
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm a former Hallmark hater. Today we're discussing Chicken Sisters
- 0:52Speaker 1: Episode eight, The Best Chicken and Town y'all, also known
- 0:54Speaker 1: as the finale of the Chicken Sisters series, also title
- 1:00Speaker 1: gas Lighter on IMDb. Gotta admit love that title, and
- 1:05Speaker 1: we are referring to Frank Junior, right, I think the yeah,
- 1:09Speaker 1: But I think the pairing of Frank Junior and mister
- 1:11Speaker 1: Chicken is team gas Lighter warf emoji. Hey, before we
- 1:17Speaker 1: dive into our review, just a reminder that you can
- 1:19Speaker 1: find us outside of the podcast. Hang out with us
- 1:21Speaker 1: on Instagram. We have two accounts, Girls Gone Hallmark and
- 1:25Speaker 1: Megan and Wendy. We have a Facebook group. Hey, come
- 1:28Speaker 1: talk about Chicken Sisters. We don't talk about this show
- 1:31Speaker 1: a whole lot in the Facebook group because methinks a
- 1:35Speaker 1: lot of people are not watching it. I also think
- 1:38Speaker 1: there's a big split of people that don't have Hallmark Plus.
- 1:41Speaker 1: That's why. That's why there are some that say like
- 1:44Speaker 1: they try to watch this series and tapped out after
- 1:47Speaker 1: two or three episodes. Also, I mentioned this on our
- 1:49Speaker 1: Instagram and it's been mentioned in our Facebook group. But
- 1:51Speaker 1: if you are a listener and you're like, I don't
- 1:52Speaker 1: have Hallmark Plus and you want to watch these shows,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I want to remind you that if you have a
- 1:56Speaker 1: library card, many libraries partner with a coming called Hoopla
- 2:01Speaker 1: for ebooks audiobooks, and they have something called binge Pass
- 2:05Speaker 1: which gives you a seven day access to Hallmark Plus.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And you can check that out multiple times, so you
- 2:13Speaker 1: don't need to just like wait for your seven days.
- 2:16Speaker 1: When this comes up in conversation and I mentioned Hoopla,
- 2:18Speaker 1: people are like, oh no, my library uses Libby. They're
- 2:21Speaker 1: not mutually exclusive, so many libraries use both. The only
- 2:25Speaker 1: downside with Hoopla is typically your library has a limit
- 2:30Speaker 1: on the number of holds that are allowed to be
- 2:32Speaker 1: taken from hooplad daily, and so sometimes I'll find that
- 2:36Speaker 1: if I go later in the day, my library's max
- 2:40Speaker 1: has been reached, and so I have to go back
- 2:42Speaker 1: early in the morning. But binge pass on hooplah is
- 2:46Speaker 1: a great way to get access to Hallmark Plus to
- 2:48Speaker 1: watch the shows that you may or may not be missing.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I have another alternative way, cool tell me. We got
- 2:56Speaker 1: a message from Beth Ann who says that if you
- 2:58Speaker 1: want to subscribe to Hallmark Plus, you can save some
- 3:02Speaker 1: money using your Walmart Plus membership to get a discount.
- 3:07Speaker 1: You get twenty five percent off four months of Hallmark Plus.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Hey nice. So if you're already a Walmart Plus subscriber, Yeah,
- 3:14Speaker 1: And all of these things were coming into Black Friday,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and streaming discounts are hot during Black Friday. That's always
- 3:21Speaker 1: where I subscribe to Peacock because it's always a dollar.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Hulu is often a dollar. We will see if Hallmark
- 3:27Speaker 1: Plus will offer a deal, but Walmart Plus often has
- 3:30Speaker 1: a Black Friday deal that week as well, So lots
- 3:34Speaker 1: of different ways to get access Yeah Plus. If you're
- 3:36Speaker 1: wanting to Okay, let's hear a synopsis for It's for
- 3:42Speaker 1: the Best Chicken and Town y'all for whatever this is called.
- 3:45Speaker 1: The synopsis goes a final twist in the reality competition,
- 3:50Speaker 1: throws both the Memi's and Franny's cruise for a loop,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and Frank Junior's true colors are revealed. Leyla Cohen wrote
- 3:58Speaker 1: the script for episode eight. She had previously penned episode four,
- 4:01Speaker 1: It's the Drop, y'all. Monica Mitchell returns as director. She
- 4:06Speaker 1: directed episode seven, It's Just Junk, y'all. There was a
- 4:10Speaker 1: Deadline article on October twenty fourth, which is an interview
- 4:13Speaker 1: with Annie MacBain, who is the show's creator, and a
- 4:16Speaker 1: couple of things of note from that article. We have
- 4:19Speaker 1: talked a lot about the book versus the TV series,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and MacBain mentioned that the book was a jumping off
- 4:24Speaker 1: point for an adaptation, which is a perspective that I
- 4:27Speaker 1: appreciated having read this article as well. But don't you
- 4:30Speaker 1: wish she would have said that? Don't you wish we
- 4:32Speaker 1: would have known that going into the series. Sure, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from making
- 4:37Speaker 1: the comparisons. Yeah, of course, As she went on to
- 4:40Speaker 1: talk about the choice for Frank Junior to be a
- 4:41Speaker 1: live versus dead as in the novel, and it's because
- 4:44Speaker 1: they wanted to show the conflict Amanda was dealing with
- 4:47Speaker 1: in real time as opposed to her just struggling with
- 4:50Speaker 1: her marriage in the past versus memories. And it was
- 4:55Speaker 1: interesting to explore why Frank Junior was the way he
- 4:58Speaker 1: was planning for a potential season two. We've got the
- 5:02Speaker 1: mom and pop versus corporate rivalry. We have will Sabrina
- 5:06Speaker 1: leave her big city life for a life in Marynac
- 5:09Speaker 1: with Gruster, And we also have the mysterious photo of
- 5:12Speaker 1: Gus and the chicken farmer Jarvis. Who's your daddy? Now
- 5:17Speaker 1: we know who's your daddy? Y'all. Let's talk about a
- 5:23Speaker 1: line that we took issue with in this article. Go ahead,
- 5:26Speaker 1: Oh you want me too? Yeah, So the Deadline interviewer
- 5:29Speaker 1: talks about Shauna, who you know we love. They mentioned
- 5:32Speaker 1: that she's so funny and a great edition in McBain's
- 5:34Speaker 1: line is that actress was such a fine She's a
- 5:37Speaker 1: comedy scene staple. She's been doing improv every Sunday night
- 5:39Speaker 1: for like twenty years now. Look, I love that insight
- 5:42Speaker 1: because I think that improv experience shows because she's quick
- 5:47Speaker 1: on screen. What I don't like is they use the
- 5:51Speaker 1: phrase that actress. She has a name, y'all, and it
- 5:54Speaker 1: is Caitlin Howden. Yeah. Justice four, Justice four, we have
- 6:00Speaker 1: some messages and emails we would like to discuss with you. Yeah.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So we received a couple of emails. This one is
- 6:08Speaker 1: from anonymous. It like was not signed and the email
- 6:12Speaker 1: address was super weird. Interesting, this person wrote, Usually writers
- 6:18Speaker 1: don't write the episodes individually. The entire writer's room. All
- 6:22Speaker 1: of the writer's names you see across the season, work together,
- 6:26Speaker 1: create the story, write together, et cetera. Just some helpful
- 6:29Speaker 1: info on how most shows work. I definitely was familiar
- 6:35Speaker 1: with the concept of the writer's room, and of course
- 6:37Speaker 1: every show uses that. But Annie MacBain in this article
- 6:40Speaker 1: does reference the writer's room. So and then I think
- 6:43Speaker 1: they just give writing credit to whoever just randomly they're like, okay, okay,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I see and you know, I think like we were
- 6:51Speaker 1: fans of the Nobody's Listening Right podcast hosted by Elizabeth Lame,
- 6:54Speaker 1: who most recently was a writer on A Million Little
- 6:57Speaker 1: Things series on ABC. She would mention like, oh, I
- 7:02Speaker 1: wrote this episode, And so I do think often what
- 7:04Speaker 1: will happen is we get certain writers assigned to a script,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and then in the room perhaps writers will either toss
- 7:12Speaker 1: around storylines or workshop pieces of it, but full credit
- 7:17Speaker 1: will go to whoever did the Lion's share. So I
- 7:19Speaker 1: don't think I feel a little bit like scolded chapped. Yeah,
- 7:27Speaker 1: because we did say like, oh, we don't know how
- 7:29Speaker 1: it works. We just didn't know how it worked on
- 7:31Speaker 1: this show at you, and I think we are if
- 7:34Speaker 1: the if the episode says episode written by and we
- 7:38Speaker 1: share that information like that is the information we've been
- 7:42Speaker 1: told this episode was written by Leyla Cohen or whatever, Right.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But I think what they're responding to is in last
- 7:49Speaker 1: week's episode we had talked about how the different episodes
- 7:51Speaker 1: have different tones based on the writers. Yeah, and so
- 7:54Speaker 1: you were talking about like how do we find cohesiveness
- 7:57Speaker 1: and how is this all working? And so if they're
- 7:59Speaker 1: all in a writer's room working together, that does make sense,
- 8:04Speaker 1: I but not it. I don't think every show works
- 8:07Speaker 1: that way. Our second email is from listener Paula, who
- 8:12Speaker 1: says we did a great job on episode seven. Thank you, Paula.
- 8:15Speaker 1: She has watched episode eight and loved it and mainly
- 8:18Speaker 1: wants to say yay, Amanda, she finally did the right thing.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I knew she would. Great setup for season two. And
- 8:25Speaker 1: Frankie and shawna more than friends. It's not Shauna, Its
- 8:29Speaker 1: Frankie and Lindsay more than friends. Question mark, question mark,
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'd like to talk. We're going to talk about that too. Hey,
- 8:36Speaker 1: let's take a quick break and we'll come right back
- 8:38Speaker 1: to talk the key moments in this episode, I hope
- 8:46Speaker 1: with all right, let's dive into some key moments from
- 8:52Speaker 1: The Chicken Sister's finale. A series of big reveals in
- 8:55Speaker 1: this episode. Yeah big, we get a period PCE throw back.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I know you loved this, but this reveal is that
- 9:03Speaker 1: Franny's husband is not the father of Mimi's baby. You're
- 9:07Speaker 1: not the father. I just had a Maury Povich. That's interesting, Yes,
- 9:13Speaker 1: don't you? The light attector says, yeah, there's a lie,
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yes the father. So this was the start of a
- 9:21Speaker 1: series of seeing red moments for me in this episode.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Oh do tell So? The further big reveal is why
- 9:29Speaker 1: would Franny's husband why would he lie about it? Same thing?
- 9:33Speaker 1: Why would Frank Frank Senior lie and a little bit
- 9:36Speaker 1: later in the episode, we get the reveal they lie
- 9:39Speaker 1: to keep the women mad at the people that they
- 9:42Speaker 1: have decided are bad. And oh boy, did this revelation
- 9:47Speaker 1: fire me up. Let me tell you, this is not
- 9:49Speaker 1: the political environment for me to be watching this episode
- 9:52Speaker 1: of this show, because I thought, oh my gosh, the
- 9:55Speaker 1: propaganda that is happening. Yeah, very interesting. Mmm. I do
- 10:05Speaker 1: want to say that I actually cut this out of
- 10:07Speaker 1: last week's episode. In the last week's episode, I commented
- 10:11Speaker 1: that Amanda and our husband were distant relatives, and I
- 10:15Speaker 1: cut it out because I was like, am I remembering
- 10:17Speaker 1: that wrong from the book? And I messaged a friend
- 10:19Speaker 1: who read it, and I was like, Amanda and her husband, oh, Frank, yeah,
- 10:23Speaker 1: because they're like the Frankie's and the Memi's and like
- 10:25Speaker 1: they somehow could be Yeah, yeah, yes. And I messaged
- 10:29Speaker 1: a friend and I was like, did they hint at this?
- 10:30Speaker 1: She's like, they didn't hint it, They like outright said it,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and then they kind of just like, we're going to
- 10:34Speaker 1: move on from that. So anyway, obviously they're not going
- 10:38Speaker 1: with that here. We're not having Amanda and Frank b related,
- 10:41Speaker 1: which I appreciate. Yeah, I don't want to dive into that.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I don't want to dive into that. I get's real.
- 10:50Speaker 1: In the Weeds Big reveal number two, Gus has MS. Yes,
- 10:55Speaker 1: now in the book she has Parkinson's right, mm hmm.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I am some thoughts on the change, and Annie Vaine
- 11:02Speaker 1: does comment on it, and I have her notes here.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Her comment was allowed them to be more fluid with
- 11:08Speaker 1: her symptoms. My thought is, look, tremors are a hallmark
- 11:13Speaker 1: of Parkinson's, and I don't want to see an actor
- 11:15Speaker 1: acting that. I think it is easier to portray a
- 11:21Speaker 1: character with MS respectfully than it is to portray a
- 11:25Speaker 1: character with Parkinson. Sure, sure, maybe a good choice then,
- 11:29Speaker 1: I think so. And by her saying that they could
- 11:34Speaker 1: be more fluid, I think people I don't have MS.
- 11:39Speaker 1: I have a friend who does. I think they have
- 11:42Speaker 1: their good days and their bad days. So I think
- 11:45Speaker 1: maybe it's easier to portray an actor who's having a
- 11:48Speaker 1: better day than a you know, look, I worked for
- 11:51Speaker 1: the National MS and there are multiple types of MS.
- 11:54Speaker 1: But there is a type, the type that President Bartlett
- 11:56Speaker 1: had on the West Wing called relapsing remitting, and you're
- 11:59Speaker 1: literally at some point in remission like your symptoms pull back.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So there, it does come in waves for certain people,
- 12:05Speaker 1: and so I think that makes it easier for them
- 12:08Speaker 1: to tell the kind of story they want to tell, exactly.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Like she can be in the kitchen cooking on some
- 12:13Speaker 1: days and some days and some days she can't. So yeah, yeah, interesting.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Well let's talk about the chicken competition. Sure. Look, I
- 12:22Speaker 1: love that everyone bails on Frank Junior. I love that
- 12:24Speaker 1: even Nancy's live peace. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm going to
- 12:27Speaker 1: the light side. I hate first of all, at the
- 12:34Speaker 1: beginning of the scene, we have Shauna going over to
- 12:38Speaker 1: mister Chicken and I'm like, no, when she's like asking
- 12:42Speaker 1: him for business advice. I mean, I think Shauna is
- 12:46Speaker 1: smarter than what we are. Yeah, we learn that she
- 12:49Speaker 1: in fact is, Yes, but I did have that like,
- 12:53Speaker 1: you know, don't get drawn in by the charm moment.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah. Look, when mister Chicken declares Frank Junior
- 13:00Speaker 1: and Franny's the winner, this is another seeing red moment
- 13:03Speaker 1: for me. Like my head, I was like, that's not there,
- 13:06Speaker 1: that's not right. What's happening here? And this Sabrina is
- 13:10Speaker 1: absolutely magical. Yes, great, I left out loud when she's
- 13:15Speaker 1: like took chickens just cross the road. But I really
- 13:19Speaker 1: loved her speech when she's like, I'm gonna send my
- 13:21Speaker 1: whole life doing something has recentthing my daughter's proud of,
- 13:24Speaker 1: you know, you know what. It reminded me of the
- 13:28Speaker 1: absolutely fantastic monologue from America Ferrara and Barbie. Oh yeah,
- 13:34Speaker 1: those feelings, like she's like, this is unfair. If I'm
- 13:38Speaker 1: gonna do something, I gotta be right by my kid. Like, yeah,
- 13:43Speaker 1: it was good. I enjoyed it. Yeah, because Sprina is
- 13:47Speaker 1: just like enough with this like male toxicity bs like
- 13:52Speaker 1: I'm done, I'm over it. Hmm. Yeah, I liked it.
- 13:54Speaker 1: I agree with you, like, oh the whole Like when
- 13:57Speaker 1: Frank Junior presents his chicken to him mister Chicken, and
- 14:00Speaker 1: he's like spouting those words that mister Chicken uses in
- 14:06Speaker 1: the Hard podcast. Ugh. Gross. And when mister Chicken was
- 14:13Speaker 1: like awarding you know whatever, declaring Frank Junior as the winner,
- 14:20Speaker 1: He's like nevertheless, he persisted, yes, I have a towbag
- 14:26Speaker 1: with that on it. I mean, it was funny, but
- 14:29Speaker 1: then it just shows like what a dipshit this guy is.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Uh huh. I enjoyed it, but I saw Red as well.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I was not happy about it. I think it's a
- 14:41Speaker 1: great setup for season two. I love the reveal that, like,
- 14:44Speaker 1: Shauna is gonna franchise Chicken Sisters. I love that we
- 14:47Speaker 1: have all the people that we love on the same side.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I love that we're setting Frank Junior up and mister
- 14:52Speaker 1: Chicken as the villains here, like we've made a clean break.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I'm sure not clean, but there's a clear division here.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Frank's not muddying the waters with all of these other
- 15:02Speaker 1: women that we know. And that's what is it for me,
- 15:04Speaker 1: Because when Shauna approaches the Chicken Sisters and she's like, look,
- 15:07Speaker 1: I want to I want to franchise this. I want
- 15:10Speaker 1: two restaurants, and I've already talked to the mayor about
- 15:13Speaker 1: getting like a so getting a restaurant, a franchise restaurant
- 15:20Speaker 1: on the main road. That's the pancake house that was
- 15:22Speaker 1: originally closed that then we see mister Chicken and Frank
- 15:26Speaker 1: Junior buying are you sure? Yeah, because Frank Junior that
- 15:31Speaker 1: pancake house is outside of the town lines. And Frank
- 15:35Speaker 1: Junior when he's a couple episodes ago talking to mister Chicken,
- 15:38Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, the mayor doesn't allow franchises on the
- 15:41Speaker 1: main road. That's why this is just out of town,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and that's why it does poorly because it's out of town.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I think. So, I don't remember that piece, but that's
- 15:49Speaker 1: going to be their new Mister Chicken or whatever they're
- 15:53Speaker 1: calling it, and then Frannie's is going to be the
- 15:56Speaker 1: one in town that is going to be allowed to
- 15:59Speaker 1: be an. I thank you for clearing that up for me,
- 16:01Speaker 1: because I was thinking that they had stole it away
- 16:03Speaker 1: from Shauna somehow. But no, it's just going to be
- 16:05Speaker 1: competing restaurants in town. Part do I like it? Me too?
- 16:11Speaker 1: I think it's great. I think it's going to be
- 16:13Speaker 1: really fun, and I think it makes the lines very clear,
- 16:17Speaker 1: like who we're rooting for, who we're rooting against. Is
- 16:21Speaker 1: there a chance for a Frank Junior redemption story? Annie
- 16:24Speaker 1: McBain says yes. Nancy says, like you got to grow up,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and I can't do the growing up for you. I
- 16:30Speaker 1: liked all that. A lot of people had their moments.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I really want to talk about Amanda's decision. I mean,
- 16:38Speaker 1: obviously she leaves Frank Junior. There's a lot I love
- 16:40Speaker 1: about what Amanda does you know. She's like, I want
- 16:43Speaker 1: you to move out, and he's like, this is our
- 16:44Speaker 1: house and she's like, who makes it a home? And
- 16:46Speaker 1: then she's like, am I the one who seasonally decorates it?
- 16:48Speaker 1: I just made it laugh. Yeah, she has her conversation
- 16:51Speaker 1: with Sergio and she's like, I just got to do
- 16:53Speaker 1: me for a little bit. Which I loved me too,
- 16:56Speaker 1: because it makes take a minute. I don't need to
- 17:00Speaker 1: jump from into one frying pan into another. Wow, that
- 17:04Speaker 1: feels like a chicken pun but right, like, she can
- 17:08Speaker 1: take a minute. And I was a little bit bothered
- 17:10Speaker 1: that he was bothered by that. Yeah, that he was
- 17:15Speaker 1: hurt by it. Uh huh. Yeah. To me, it seems
- 17:18Speaker 1: like if you see this as a long term thing,
- 17:22Speaker 1: and he had been hinting at like I'm not a
- 17:23Speaker 1: playboy anymore. I'm putting down roots, then you should want
- 17:27Speaker 1: her to come to you with a clear heart and
- 17:31Speaker 1: a clear eye, not carrying all his baggage from her
- 17:34Speaker 1: terrible marriage and trying to turn your relationship into everything
- 17:37Speaker 1: her marriage wasn't right. She needs to clean break, be
- 17:41Speaker 1: on her own, and then figure out what the heck
- 17:44Speaker 1: who she is? Like, you don't want her to come in.
- 17:47Speaker 1: I have to say, baggage, but she's got to clear
- 17:49Speaker 1: some things out. However, what I didn't like is that
- 17:53Speaker 1: then he gets a text from her, m Oh, you
- 17:57Speaker 1: don't think that's his excuse? Did you see the name
- 17:59Speaker 1: on it? It's do not answer. I assumed it was Amanda.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I don't think so, My god, I think it's ex.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That makes it even better because I was disappointed at
- 18:09Speaker 1: Amanda here like, no, don'tcle running back d him now
- 18:11Speaker 1: after you've just told him. Of course, it's unclear because
- 18:15Speaker 1: it says do not answer, so we don't know. But
- 18:18Speaker 1: I felt very strongly that was his ex coming back
- 18:20Speaker 1: into the picture. Interesting. Yeah, interest piqued Yes, Speaking of
- 18:31Speaker 1: everybody having their moments, I did love that Nancy threw
- 18:33Speaker 1: out all frank seniors shit. She was ready to move on.
- 18:38Speaker 1: And then of course we see her go out with
- 18:39Speaker 1: the pastor guy. I that's so great. That was great.
- 18:43Speaker 1: I loved how Nancy opened her home up to Gus. Yes,
- 18:48Speaker 1: love love that. I love that Gus is repairing her
- 18:54Speaker 1: relationship with her daughter. I'm gonna let my inside thoughts
- 18:57Speaker 1: out more often. She's Oh, my god, so good. That
- 19:01Speaker 1: was so good. And I love May and Jay together,
- 19:07Speaker 1: and Jay's whole little his little short scene just basically
- 19:12Speaker 1: like how he's falling in love with Marynac walking around
- 19:15Speaker 1: eating his ice creams and rocks. I freaking loved it.
- 19:20Speaker 1: I love that too. And I also love when they're
- 19:22Speaker 1: talking about, like, oh, do we're gonna make Chicken Sisters
- 19:24Speaker 1: a thing? And Jay is talking about like how he's
- 19:27Speaker 1: gonna help and he's like, oh am, I getting all
- 19:30Speaker 1: mergers and acquisitions, and May's like, don't you need a break?
- 19:32Speaker 1: He's like, not for my family, I'll do it for
- 19:34Speaker 1: my friend. Yeah. I love that. May had some really
- 19:37Speaker 1: good scenes. One in particular is when Shauna comes to
- 19:42Speaker 1: the Chicken Sisters and she's like saying, like, here, I'm
- 19:46Speaker 1: I'm rich, y'all, I can invest in your thing. I
- 19:49Speaker 1: have fourteen jobs. And Nancy's like, well, I don't mean
- 19:52Speaker 1: to sound like your mom, but maybe you know what
- 19:55Speaker 1: she's telling her not to do it, and May turns
- 19:57Speaker 1: around to her and goes stop talking. I thought it
- 20:02Speaker 1: was so great. I just thought it was a great
- 20:04Speaker 1: actor choice by Genevieve Angelson. She also there's a moment,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you know, Sergio tries to punch right Junior, I punches
- 20:13Speaker 1: the wall. He's like able to cook and she's May's like,
- 20:15Speaker 1: what are we gonna do? And she's like, I wants
- 20:17Speaker 1: a buzzy to cook with one hand, kannya, and I
- 20:19Speaker 1: just her delivery is so great. I love her. You
- 20:23Speaker 1: know what, we've never talked about how freaking jacked she is.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I know her arms that scene at the drop, she's
- 20:29Speaker 1: wearing like a sleeveless vest and her arms and shoulders
- 20:34Speaker 1: look great. She's also in a tank top in the
- 20:36Speaker 1: it's just junk y'all. She's very fit, like those muscles.
- 20:43Speaker 1: All right? Did you have any other Oh? The one
- 20:47Speaker 1: we didn't talk about that way mentioned. I was wondering
- 20:50Speaker 1: if I was going to save it for my clokworthy moments. Oh,
- 20:54Speaker 1: but we did talk about one of my favorite storylines,
- 20:57Speaker 1: Go for it. It's Lindsey and Frankie. I didn't see
- 21:00Speaker 1: that coming from a mile away. Neither did I. I
- 21:04Speaker 1: just was looking forward to their reconciliation and they're like, yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 1: we're real friends. Yeah, and we realized that they're both
- 21:11Speaker 1: falling in love with each other. I thought it was
- 21:13Speaker 1: nicely done to you with the narrator, Who's who explains
- 21:17Speaker 1: what is happening here, like, now Frankie realizes what heartbreak
- 21:23Speaker 1: feels like or whatever. I thought it was like, great,
- 21:25Speaker 1: heart can only break two ways or heart needs two
- 21:28Speaker 1: sides to break. Hmmm, so great and Frankie's look as
- 21:33Speaker 1: Lindsay's driving away. Yeah, Oh it's good. Yeah, it was good. This.
- 21:38Speaker 1: This did get brought up in our Facebook group and
- 21:42Speaker 1: somebody had was like, oh, basically didn't read it that way,
- 21:48Speaker 1: and I was like, oh no, no, it's definitely we're
- 21:51Speaker 1: going that way. We're going. I kind of like, sure,
- 21:54Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, I'm like, great, let's let's do
- 21:57Speaker 1: it with kitchen clash ending. I was kind of sad,
- 22:02Speaker 1: like with Sabrina and Lindsay leaving. I love the scene
- 22:07Speaker 1: when Gruster comes out and like says I can fix
- 22:11Speaker 1: things or whatever, because she's like I, I'm all, you
- 22:14Speaker 1: don't want me. I'm broken and he can fix things.
- 22:18Speaker 1: Uh that's a great line. And I don't know if
- 22:20Speaker 1: you noticed too. With the subtitles, he goes, I here's
- 22:23Speaker 1: some GORP for you, and I was like, what the
- 22:25Speaker 1: hell is gorp? I had to look it up and
- 22:26Speaker 1: it's like trail mixed apparently. Oh, Yeah, I was a
- 22:28Speaker 1: girl scout. We made gorb. Oh the girl at the
- 22:32Speaker 1: girl scoutthouse. Oh, the went to the scout house. Now
- 22:35Speaker 1: we made gorb. We made walking sticks? Is the whole
- 22:37Speaker 1: thing we made? Butter, is it realistic that Sabrina and
- 22:41Speaker 1: Lindsay are going to come back to town? I think so.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Is Sabrina gonna leave her a life of hosting TV shows?
- 22:49Speaker 1: But why does she need to be based in New
- 22:51Speaker 1: York to have that life? So she's traveling all the time.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I don't think she does. Or maybe she and May
- 22:55Speaker 1: are going to create something together. Oh, I love that idea.
- 22:59Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of things. Look, she left
- 23:02Speaker 1: Kitchen Clash, so Sabrina's and May basically left Sparkling. She
- 23:07Speaker 1: fully left Sparkling, so they're both free, so there's a
- 23:10Speaker 1: lot of room to play. They could create a podcast together.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Oh so I have to ask you, did this episode
- 23:19Speaker 1: bring you back around on the show? Okay? In my
- 23:23Speaker 1: notes here, I have this big bolded paragraph And I
- 23:28Speaker 1: have thought a lot about this episode and the series
- 23:32Speaker 1: as a whole since finishing it. And I did really
- 23:38Speaker 1: enjoy this episode, and I've been thinking about the things.
- 23:42Speaker 1: The criticisms that I've had, Like, I thought, there's was
- 23:45Speaker 1: some uneven storytelling and the pace of the show and
- 23:48Speaker 1: the inability to dig deeper into the stories of our characters.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of like maybe the time,
- 23:57Speaker 1: because it's a forty five minute episode, you just can't
- 24:00Speaker 1: get into it. You know. Those were a lot of
- 24:03Speaker 1: my criticisms, But as a whole. As a whole, I
- 24:07Speaker 1: think I liked it good. Did we need all of
- 24:10Speaker 1: the things that were so frustrating about this show to
- 24:12Speaker 1: bring us around to this sort of resolution. I always
- 24:17Speaker 1: liked to show more than you did, so I didn't
- 24:19Speaker 1: need to be sold. Okay, What I like about it
- 24:24Speaker 1: looking back now, I like that they're looking at generational trauma,
- 24:30Speaker 1: They're looking at Endian generational trauma. I like that Homemark
- 24:36Speaker 1: gave us a super shitty, unlikable character with Frank Junior
- 24:41Speaker 1: and understanding how he became that person. I think those
- 24:47Speaker 1: are interesting stories. I just don't know. I just wish
- 24:53Speaker 1: we could have gotten there sooner. Maybe I don't know,
- 24:58Speaker 1: But my whole point is I do like sother than
- 25:02Speaker 1: eight episodes, me and me, it needed to be ten episodes.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know it just needed a
- 25:09Speaker 1: little bit like I wanted to claw into some of
- 25:12Speaker 1: like the the deeper themes. But I mean, I think
- 25:16Speaker 1: it's supposed to be like a little bit lighthearted too.
- 25:18Speaker 1: For sure. I wonder what this show would look like
- 25:21Speaker 1: if it was like on Netflix or Hulu. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: you know. So with that in mind, I did like it.
- 25:29Speaker 1: I like that the women finally all come together at
- 25:31Speaker 1: the end and get on the same freaking page. Yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 1: but it's not a I Hate men club, right, you know,
- 25:38Speaker 1: We've got great men. We have Kennick, and we have Patrick,
- 25:41Speaker 1: and we have j and we have Sergio, who's a
- 25:44Speaker 1: good dude. We have Gruster. There's a lot of dudes
- 25:47Speaker 1: to root for in the show. Sure, Yeah, so I
- 25:51Speaker 1: liked it. I would watch seafon two kicking and screaming. Hey,
- 25:55Speaker 1: let's talk some cluckworthy moment. That's kicking and screaming some
- 25:59Speaker 1: of my favorite cluckworthy moments, and we've talked about them.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I love seeing a softer guss m. Even just the
- 26:06Speaker 1: effect of putting her in a wheelchair just has that
- 26:09Speaker 1: like instant effect, you know, Gen's like I want you
- 26:12Speaker 1: to take it easy, and they're like fat chance of
- 26:13Speaker 1: that happening. He's like, all right, then you're in a
- 26:15Speaker 1: wheelchair man. Yeah, he's gonna be in the hospital then,
- 26:18Speaker 1: like there was a trade off. Yeah, talk about an
- 26:21Speaker 1: actor super underused, right, Wendy Malick or again again, Cardi Wong. Yeah,
- 26:27Speaker 1: let's expand his character more and maybe we'll see more
- 26:30Speaker 1: of that now that we have a full diagnosis. But
- 26:33Speaker 1: you know what's interesting is like he appears to be
- 26:36Speaker 1: like a doctor that practices Western medicine. He's the doctor
- 26:38Speaker 1: that's there in the hospital, but he's also a doctor
- 26:40Speaker 1: who you know, performs some alternative treatments like acupuncture. So
- 26:44Speaker 1: that's very interesting. Yeah, and I can see in their
- 26:48Speaker 1: small town be seen as like voodoo almost right. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: really love Sabrina when she pops off about quitting one
- 26:59Speaker 1: of my favorite scenes. I need Rikia Bernard to come
- 27:04Speaker 1: back for season two. Yeah, this show doesn't work to
- 27:06Speaker 1: me without her. No, She's a vital part of the
- 27:10Speaker 1: The energy she brings is really necessary. Yes, so I
- 27:13Speaker 1: like that. I like bringing back she and Lindsay. Of course,
- 27:19Speaker 1: the Frankie and Lindsay was the most touching storyline of
- 27:22Speaker 1: the finale for me and I, particularly because it came.
- 27:26Speaker 1: It was so unexpected and I'm really excited for it,
- 27:29Speaker 1: and I think they really sold it to me. Did
- 27:34Speaker 1: you hear are you familiar with the High Women? No,
- 27:37Speaker 1: their song Crowded Table Plays. That's a great song. It
- 27:45Speaker 1: touches me as the mother of growing children who are
- 27:49Speaker 1: fleeing the nest. It was great song choice in this episode. Yeah.
- 27:54Speaker 1: We haven't talked a ton about the music in this
- 27:57Speaker 1: show other than that Ferris Mueller. Yeah, drop. I had
- 28:05Speaker 1: read somewhere that they had used a lot of like
- 28:08Speaker 1: they used Phoebee Bridgers and boy Genius throughout this show.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I wouldn't be interested in going back and looking at
- 28:14Speaker 1: the Yeah, I would like to publish a playlist. Yeah.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Ani Mubine in that interview we referenced earlier calls it
- 28:23Speaker 1: y'all alternative. Yeah, I just think it's, uh, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of country pop crossover in
- 28:32Speaker 1: popular music. Yeah. I think she mentioned a band called
- 28:35Speaker 1: Nickel Creek, which is like one of my sister's favorite band. Oh, yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: that funny. That's not a name I've heard before. Yeah, anyway,
- 28:43Speaker 1: what do you have any more clickworthy moments? No? Who's
- 28:47Speaker 1: your father? Tone of the Week, Amanda, if you can
- 28:50Speaker 1: live it. I have been real hard on Amanda all
- 28:55Speaker 1: season long. I am in agreeance with listener Paula. I
- 29:00Speaker 1: am so happy that Amanda got there. She realizes Frank
- 29:04Speaker 1: Junior isn't it and she stops the cycle like I
- 29:09Speaker 1: just think we finally got there. I was very happy.
- 29:14Speaker 1: That makes me happy. I agree, she's real strong in
- 29:17Speaker 1: this episode. My father driend of the Week is Sabrina.
- 29:19Speaker 1: She just brings it in that chicken competition, and she
- 29:22Speaker 1: brought the energy that I needed. Look, you can't you
- 29:26Speaker 1: can't change the outcome of the competition, mister Chickens, their
- 29:29Speaker 1: biggest sponsor. You can't change it. But she is not
- 29:32Speaker 1: going to go down without a fight, and I needed
- 29:36Speaker 1: to see it. I did think it was kind of
- 29:38Speaker 1: funny that her boss was like old white dude. Of course,
- 29:42Speaker 1: I think it was perfect casting. Yes on purpose, Sure, yeah,
- 29:48Speaker 1: that is good. It was good. We hope you enjoyed
- 29:51Speaker 1: this series of reviews from us over here at Girls

- 30:42Speaker 1: enjoyable because it's clear they enjoyed doing them. Megan and
- 30:45Speaker 1: Wendy's approaches from a place of honesty in their reviews.
- 30:47Speaker 1: They may not like a movie, but their review is
- 30:49Speaker 1: respectful and they don't mock or make fun of it
- 30:51Speaker 1: like other reviews I've heard. It's great to hear they've
- 30:54Speaker 1: leveled up and joined the Bramble Jam network. Thank you, Brenda,
