Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Stop wasting money on these particular things. We have some
- 0:04Speaker 1: valuable guidance here.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Yes. You know, according to the experts, and I feel
- 0:08Speaker 2: like guilty as charged with all of these, where they
- 0:11Speaker 2: tell us that we are just throwing money away. These
- 0:14Speaker 2: are unnecessary purchases.
- 0:15Speaker 3: Are we ready? First of all, our phones.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We need our phones, though.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We need our phones, but you don't need the latest
- 0:23Speaker 2: phone every time. Slight upgrades in a camera, some other
- 0:27Speaker 2: tech might sound great, but are they really worth spending
- 0:29Speaker 2: over $ 1, 000 for? If your phone still works, you keep
- 0:32Speaker 2: using it.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I will say I used to be the guy that
- 0:34Speaker 1: needed that new iPhone every year. And thanks to my
- 0:37Speaker 1: wife and me taking a deep breath, I can now
- 0:41Speaker 1: skip two years.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:43Speaker 1: And I realize it doesn't change that much.
- 0:45Speaker 3: No, it doesn't.
- 0:46Speaker 2: And it's also more convenient because every time you get
- 0:48Speaker 2: a new one, you get to sign into everything again.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Right. Okay. Cars.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I know this is hard.
- 0:52Speaker 1: That's another thing I've done.
- 0:54Speaker 2: If your car is running just fine and it's paid off,
- 0:57Speaker 2: enjoy it. The financial experts are saying just drive it
- 1:01Speaker 2: into the ground.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That's exactly what my wife said to do with my
- 1:03Speaker 1: current car. Really? I'm kind of getting bored with it.
- 1:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 1: And I've had it for five years, which is long
- 1:08Speaker 1: for me.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And she's like, no, baby.
- 1:10Speaker 3: It's paid off.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Use that term. You're driving that into the ground. Yeah.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, you know what? You're right. Yeah. If
- 1:16Speaker 1: it gets you from point A to point B, that's
- 1:18Speaker 1: all you need.
- 1:18Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:18Speaker 3: They say it's just another way to incur debt.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Oh, boy. This one scares me.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Housing. Wow.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Because we took the leap and we got a bigger
- 1:25Speaker 2: house and they said, nope. If you have a growing family,
- 1:30Speaker 2: so you kids, Cubby, Kristen, you're excused. You've got little ones.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Then it's one thing to get a bigger home. Otherwise,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you're just going into deeper debt because you have a
- 1:39Speaker 2: lot of stuff and you need places for it.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's like the old George Carlin stand-up routine he did.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I live it.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:45Speaker 1: You get more stuff, you get a bigger house.
- 1:47Speaker 3: You need a house for more stuff. You get more stuff.
- 1:49Speaker 3: Coffee maker. No, say it ain't so.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Wait, they're saying that that's a sign of wasting money? Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 1: A coffee maker?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Simple ones get the job done. You don't need a
- 1:57Speaker 3: big fancy one.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Wow.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Well, excuse me.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I believe we're excused because we get up in the morning.
- 2:04Speaker 1: We need the best caffeine we can get.
- 2:05Speaker 3: That's all that matters.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I need a good machine.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I mean, you've got to have little joys in life.
- 2:09Speaker 3: How about the TV?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Are we wasting our money on TV?
- 2:13Speaker 3: Because they keep changing. They keep changing.
- 2:15Speaker 1: It's kind of like the iPhone or any kind of phone.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You want the latest and greatest.
- 2:18Speaker 3: The latest. But they said that it's not an extreme
- 2:21Speaker 3: change anymore. Stick with what you have. I definitely agree
- 2:24Speaker 3: with this one if you can do it. Cheap furniture.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Because I've noticed the difference.
- 2:28Speaker 2: We've done both. We've gotten expensive. We've gotten cheaper because
- 2:31Speaker 2: we've had to. The cheap furniture just doesn't last.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So it's better to spend a little bit more money
- 2:36Speaker 1: and not have to worry about it for many years. Right.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And you don't have to replace it. Sneakers. Sneakers.
- 2:41Speaker 2: A lot of people are into getting new, cool sneakers.
- 2:45Speaker 2: They're like, nope, just get a couple of quality pairs
- 2:47Speaker 2: and run them into the ground like your car.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And finally, computers.
- 2:51Speaker 2: RAM shortages are making things incredibly expensive in tech. If
- 2:56Speaker 2: it's getting the job done for you, you don't need
- 2:58Speaker 2: a new one.
- 2:59Speaker 1: See, I feel like my wife needs a new laptop.
- 3:02Speaker 1: And she says she thinks she does, but she's not sure.
- 3:06Speaker 1: But she can barely get on a website. Her computer
- 3:08Speaker 1: is so old.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I think she needs a new one.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I'm like, just get a new computer. But I think
- 3:13Speaker 1: the date is stuck on the same, like a date
- 3:15Speaker 1: from six months ago on her computer. I'm like, that's
- 3:17Speaker 1: a sign you need a new computer. You've driven that
- 3:20Speaker 1: to the ground.
- 3:20Speaker 2: You do everything you can to update it and get
- 3:23Speaker 2: new storage in there. And then it can only go
- 3:25Speaker 2: so far. I know I'm at the same point.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I need one too.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Well, again, you're a thousand bucks. You can win right
- 3:30Speaker 1: here on Light FM after nine.
