- 2:35us open up with a song in a scripture. Amen, what God has
- 2:43for me, it is for me. Oh yeah, what God has for
- 2:54me, it is for me. Who Yeah, I know where that where
- 3:09he will pray me. Where God has for me, it is for me.
- 3:24Well, yeah, where God has for me, it is for me.
- 3:35Oh yeah, what God has for me, it is for me.
- 3:46Yeah, I know where thatad that he will pray me. Well, God
- 4:03has for me, it is for me. Yes, it is for me,
- 4:12It is for you, paterrece. It is for everyone who is watching.
- 4:15Well. God has for us, it is for us, and he
- 4:20knows how to bless us. Halllujah, coming from Songs one hundred, make
- 4:28a joyful noise to the Lord, all the land. Serve the Lord with
- 4:32gladness, coming to his presence with singing. Know that the Lord is God.
- 4:41It is he that have made us. Now we ourselves, we are
- 4:45His people, and the sheep of his pastron. Enter his gates for thanksgiving
- 4:50and his cards with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
- 4:56For the Lord is good, his stat fa love endures forever, and his
- 5:01faithfulness to all generations. I'm telling you, when it comes to Sums one
- 5:09hundred, it says, make a joyful noise unto the Lord. And sometimes
- 5:15we forget to do that when we wake up in the morning, praise Lord,
- 5:19mother wims. Sometimes we forget to make a joyful noise to the Lord.
- 5:25We got to understand that as soon as we wake up, we can
- 5:29sing a song. We can say Hallelujah, Thank it Jesus, hallelujah,
- 5:33giving God the praise. Because he said make a joyful noise. He wants
- 5:39to be love on too. Hallelujah. You know how we want somebody love
- 5:43on us. God want us to love on him each and every day.
- 5:48And it's good to have a good relationship with God and love on him and
- 5:54be there for him because we want God to be there for us. And
- 5:59I just thank God for today. I do suppose to have a guest coming
- 6:04on. They having technical difficulties, so hopefully they'll be able to get on
- 6:09here. But meanwhile we're going to talking about there he go. They're gonna
- 6:14Steve. I was praying for you. I was praying for you, Steve,
- 6:28So this is our guest today. I am just so excited that Steve
- 6:33Horder has been is here today because I have had the opportunity to get on
- 6:40his podcast multiple times through the Hallelujah do our good friend Angela Thomas Smith,
- 6:48who insta queen of collaboration, and I just thank God. We've been talking
- 6:54about real time, what's going on in real life. And I asked Steve,
- 6:59I say, can can you come on here and let's talk about some
- 7:02things, and let's talk about how your podcast got started and all that stuff.
- 7:06So I'm going to turn it over to Steve so he can let us
- 7:11know why did he choose to start a podcast. Well, I started podcasting
- 7:21about two years ago, and I had two podcasts at that time. One
- 7:28was called Holding On Withholder. It was just to play on my last name,
- 7:32and it was an interview thing, kind of like what we're doing here,
- 7:35you know, one on one interviews, And I did one out excuse
- 7:41me, one hundred interviews and then I archived and it's still available on my
- 7:46channel. And I had another one called Conversations about America. We just talked
- 7:53about American history. We had a panel and we talked about American history and
- 7:58that was good. I've done that for a while. For some reason,
- 8:01it just didn't take off, so we didn't do it for too long.
- 8:05More thing, about three months ago, I started writing O Conversation, just
- 8:11one on one kind of like this show. And you're going to be my
- 8:13guest here very very soon, and I'm looking forward to that. And the
- 8:18night crew, the one you just mentioned. We have a panel of authors,
- 8:22podcasters and public speakers and presidential candidates and just sort of get on everybody.
- 8:28We talk about current events and news and have a good time. So
- 8:33I love podcasting. It gives me an opportunity to be some really nice people
- 8:39like yourself, and it kind of gives me something to do. I'm retired
- 8:45and got plenty of time, and it's a hobby, you know. I
- 8:48don't try to make money off of it. I don't try to do anything
- 8:52other than just meet and get people and have a good time, and that's
- 8:58about it. I just left podcasting for that reason. That's awesome. And
- 9:05you see, you had two previous podcasts and now you have the current one.
- 9:09So what have you learned from all of them. I learned that there's
- 9:16a lot of different people in the world, from different places and different backgrounds.
- 9:20And I mean I already knew that, of course, but it's fun
- 9:24just to meet people, talk to them, find out where they're coming from.
- 9:28You know, what they went through in their life, you know,
- 9:31and how they got through their struggles and how God has worked through them through
- 9:37the years. And a lot of us, you know, we have a
- 9:41lot of stories we can tell about when things weren't going so well that God
- 9:48brought us through it. You know, that's my story. I started out
- 9:52in life in a very bad way. We wasn't really dirt for we certainly
- 9:58wasn't anywhere close to being middle class either, you know. And my parents,
- 10:03they grew up during the Depression. They had both had a sixth grade
- 10:07education, so, you know, and it was hard. They've done the
- 10:13best they could, but they didn't have a lot of things that they can
- 10:18teach me. And I had a n act for getting in trouble in those
- 10:22days, and I stayed in trouble when I was a teenager and ended up
- 10:30having a big alcohol and drug problem for a few years, which caused me
- 10:35a whole lot of trouble. By the grace of God, when I was
- 10:39twenty nine years old, I didn't take my last drink, in my last
- 10:43abuse, my last rugs. I've been cleaning us over since then. And
- 10:48you know, it's I say that just because it gives me an opportunity to
- 10:54tell how God can take a mess and turn it into a message. You
- 10:58know. It's what I like to say. Everybody wants to be an overcomer,
- 11:03but they don't want to overcome anything, you know, and it doesn't
- 11:07work that way. So yeah, when I was eighteen years old, I
- 11:11was convinced that my life would ever read and I think that I was just
- 11:15washed up. Well I'm not a passban, but it never was. Really.
- 11:18I just felt like there was no future for me and everything was really
- 11:22really going to be horrible forever. And for a while it was, you
- 11:26know, until I meant to write. People that had to write skills and
- 11:33knew how to help me, and they did, and by the grace of
- 11:35God, here I am. I mean, I been able to do a
- 11:37lot of things since I since I got clean and sober back then, I
- 11:43got a college education, you know, and went into the ministry and a
- 11:48lot of really cool things. Over the years, I met a lot of
- 11:52great people. And yeah, I'm doing okay, I'm blessed. I'm blessed.
- 12:00That is awesome. I thank God that you know, you are an
- 12:05overcomer. I thank God that you are here to tell your story, because
- 12:09a lot of times, the enemy, he will play on our minds and
- 12:13tell us, you know, you're this or that, and if we believe
- 12:18that, then we'll be stuck on that, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:22And so I just thank God that you know, he came to your rescue.
- 12:26You're free, and you were able to encourage somebody because you know,
- 12:31sometimes we think people are not watching us, you know, and they are.
- 12:37They watching every move we make to see if we're going to stand or
- 12:41fall or break or you know, give up. But you didn't give up,
- 12:46and I thank god you didn't because here you are today and I was
- 12:50able to meet you, and I'm telling you you are a wonderful man that
- 12:54I know for so far. And I just thank God for the night crew
- 13:00because you know, a lot of people don't want to talk about the different
- 13:03issues that are going on today because sometimes it gets kind of touchy, and
- 13:09sometimes people they get so upset they start arguing and fussing. But one thing
- 13:15about your podcast that I have learned that I have seen on there. You
- 13:20have all people from everywhere coming on there to give that point of view,
- 13:28and sometimes you get heated. But but what gets me, what cracks me
- 13:39up, though, when it does get heated, you're so calm. You're
- 13:43so calm. You don't yeah, you don't scream, but you're very calm.
- 13:48You say, okay, let's move on. And so how did you
- 13:52get there to the calmness? Well, I've spent a lot of years living
- 14:00in my mind and in my reality, and everything was the mess. Everything
- 14:05was the drama. Everything was really really horrible. And I guess you can
- 14:09say, you know, when I got clean and siver, I had to
- 14:13learn any way to live, and I had to learn to live life on
- 14:18lifet terms, not on my terms. So I had to come to the
- 14:24conclusion that every single day somebody was going to say something or do something or
- 14:31both that I didn't like, and I might as well be ready for it.
- 14:35I mean, that's just reality, you know. So I learned that
- 14:39it's bess for me if I just try to keep an even kill through a
- 14:43day, and I'll get too incited and over the good things but enjoy them,
- 14:48would be grateful for him, you know, and not let the bad
- 14:50things get to me. And that's just help me. I guess, yeah,
- 14:56because a lot of people, you know, I raised six children and
- 15:01they all grown, they all are adults. And when when it was teenagers,
- 15:07who let me tell you, and a lot of people always say that
- 15:13you should do this, you should you should do that, you know,
- 15:16and I said, no, calm down, calm down, because the Bible
- 15:20told us to train up our children. If we're going to train them up,
- 15:24we gotta do what the word of God says, it says speak life.
- 15:28And so when different situations would come up, people wanted me to get
- 15:33upset. They wanted me to scream and holler for what so I can have
- 15:37moret attack, so I can pass out, so I can get sick.
- 15:41You know, I had to calm. I had to think it's just worth,
- 15:48you know, worth my health because sometimes children will push buttons. You
- 15:54know what I'm saying that who you have to go pray and I had to
- 16:00pray many of times, Lord give me strength, and I had to use
- 16:07what the Word of God said, is said, speak life. And I
- 16:10had to tell everybody. I said, I don't care what soon and so
- 16:14is doing. We're going to speak life and everything we see. I don't
- 16:18care how bad it looks, how bad it sound, I don't care what
- 16:22they're doing. We're going to speak life. And you have to train yourself
- 16:27to do that. And so I'm glad that you said that you was looking
- 16:33at life and you just you said, wait a minute, Okay, this
- 16:36drama, but I gotta let this go. I can't let this overtake me.
- 16:41And we have to show people that because sometimes you know, we can
- 16:45talk to people and tell people all the time, do this and do that.
- 16:48But people watch us, they watch your lives, they watch how we
- 16:52deal with other folks. And so one thing I can say that when out
- 16:59was on your podcasts and the different people is going back and forth with their
- 17:03opinion, you was very calm. So I'm telling you, I just love
- 17:07how you keep your composure and you say, okay, everybody, let's get
- 17:11back. Yeah, because because sometimes I'll be watching podcasts, people be going
- 17:21off, they be screaming, they be hollering. But you you're very calm
- 17:26and collective, and I thank God for that because you are a good example
- 17:32of how to you know, orchestrate a group of people, because sometimes a
- 17:37group of people they don't know how to, you know, be settled and
- 17:42they don't know how to you know. Okay, let's calm down and let's
- 17:48move on and get to the next subject. Because I and I like that.
- 17:52I like how what you have done. So right now we're gonna take
- 17:55a break and we're gonna come back. Aspiring Author's Magazine is a founding sponsor
- 18:08for doc Crew podcast. Get featured inside the magazine. Okay, so you
- 18:18are an author, I am, so I would like for you to talk
- 18:22about your books and what has encouraged you to, you know, write books,
- 18:27and who inspired you to write your books. I think I got inspired
- 18:36in junior college, and I've never really been writing anything before, but somehow
- 18:41I got talked into writing something for the library newsual hatter each month, and
- 18:48so I started writing columns and really didn't know anything about it, but everybody
- 18:53started telling me how much the Georgia and now I should write and kind of
- 18:59surprised me, you know, so that encouraged me. And for a lot
- 19:03of years I thought, well, you know, I loved to write a
- 19:07book. I would love to write a novel. You know, it's a
- 19:11good fictional story. And I thought about it for a few years and played
- 19:15around with it. That mind him one day and I just realized, Okay,
- 19:18now's the time to do it. So I did. And that was
- 19:22about thirteen books to go written, a few nonfiction, a few well mostly
- 19:29nonfiction, but a few fictions, and one of them was autobiography called No
- 19:34One Walks Alone or I talked to you about my experiences with alcoholism and anxiety
- 19:41and depression and how I got through all that and and way God really showed
- 19:48out getting me through letting me accomplish things that I never would have even dreamed
- 19:52of. I mean, I've had opportunities, and I well, I've blown
- 19:57a lot of opportunities in my younger days, but since then, I've had
- 20:00chances to do things that I never really thought that I could do. And
- 20:06you know, it seems like ninety nine percent, well ninety nine four nine
- 20:11percent of the good things, the really great things that happened to me,
- 20:17I had absolutely nothing to do with. God just kind of put it there
- 20:21and I just kind of, okay, I went on with it, you
- 20:23know, And that's just the way he is, as you know, doesn't
- 20:30surprise you. But I'm just grateful that I've had opportunities that I've had and
- 20:37I've been able to get it. You know. I first quit school when
- 20:41I was fifteen, totally convinced I knew everything that I needed to know in
- 20:47life. I mean, seriously, I really believe that at that time.
- 20:52But I'm grateful. But you know, I was able to grow up and
- 20:56get my head straight and get to college education. Ended up more college degrees
- 21:02my eyes, was a doctor in the ministry. And I'm really really I
- 21:04don't say that to brag. I say that to brag of the Lord,
- 21:08you know, I say that to brag of the Lord. But those are
- 21:14so many things that I have happened, you know, and all those that
- 21:18have led me to write and help me to write things. And you know,
- 21:25reading. The more I read, the more I want to write.
- 21:26Also, again, I've always heard if you want to be a good writer,
- 21:30you have to read a lot. And that's true. And I was
- 21:33one of those nerds. When I was a kid. I read the encyclopedias.
- 21:37I don't mean like will cover to cover, but that's what I read
- 21:41for fun. I read encyclopedias, and so I learned things. I learned
- 21:47things, and I've always enjoyed learning, and I still do. That's awesome,
- 21:55you know. And I have a whole book chef full of encyclopedias.
- 22:03I love encyclopedias too. I said, if I say, if the Internet
- 22:07shuts down, I'm fine because I have all these encyclopedias and you know,
- 22:12a Drew z and I can just pick up, pick that up and just
- 22:18learn. And I love to learn too. I love to learn how the
- 22:21different you know, plants and animals and you know how all these little different
- 22:26insects. You know, people thought was kind of crazy because especially my mom,
- 22:30she's like, oh my god, something's wrong with this child. I
- 22:33used to pick up collect insects and bring them in the house, and she's
- 22:37like, what is wrong with you bringing in that house? Get that out
- 22:38of here? Because she didn't like insects. She was scared of them.
- 22:41But I was looking at her because I was just so fascinated, like God
- 22:45actually made this little tiny thing that could actually walk, like this thing moves
- 22:49and all this stuff. I'm just so fascinating. And when I was teaching
- 22:55and teaching science and all that stuff, I asked the children, I said,
- 23:00who likes science? I can't stand science. Everybody in Hope. I
- 23:04can't stand science. Science make me sick. I hate science, you know.
- 23:08So after they got to finish fuss in talking about they don't like science,
- 23:11I said, guess what everything you touch in science? It was like
- 23:17what? And I had to explain that to them because sometimes you know,
- 23:25we don't know who, we don't know, and you know, And I
- 23:30said, science is everything. Sciences matter everything we touched. I said,
- 23:33your cell phone, your TV. I said, your soap, your lotion,
- 23:37everything everything is science and then they stole like liking science because they have
- 23:45to understand. Everybody. I had to understand everybody don't like to pick up
- 23:48books. Everybody don't like to read. And so I had to make science
- 23:52fun. And when I made it fun, then they were able to pick
- 23:56up the books. Then they were able to read. And I said,
- 24:00in order to do this project, you have to read. You know,
- 24:06you gotta do the steps. And so we I would do simple things in
- 24:10the room, in the classroom so they can actually get the concept of science,
- 24:15like making jello and making cake, and I say, you gotta follow
- 24:18the steps step one steps too, because we're going from one matter to the
- 24:23next. One is changing from this, it's changing to that. And so
- 24:27they can see how science is a change of things from chemical matter to physical
- 24:34and it was like what, I am shocked. So sometimes we have to
- 24:40be creative. We're getting children to read because everybody don't like to read.
- 24:45I remember I had to repeat first grade because I did not know how to
- 24:48read. And right, you know, I don't want to read. I
- 25:00mean I know people that they say, well, I don't think i've read
- 25:03a book since high school. You know that be my fifties or sixties,
- 25:07and I think, really, you know, I mean, I just don't
- 25:10understand that it's just a great opportunity to learn things. And nowadays, you
- 25:15know, I got Google. I don't have to pick some compedions or dictionaries
- 25:19you know where. It's all on Google and YouTube. So that made it
- 25:23a lot easier to learn things. I love reading, I know, and
- 25:30I tell people, I said, since you don't want to read, especially
- 25:34a lot of people don't want to read a Bible, I said, you
- 25:37know what you could do. Everything's on audio now. Now you can pick
- 25:41up your phone and get on YouTube or Google, you know, and have
- 25:45the Bible read to you. So at this time, because you're going to
- 25:51conclude and get off of here, but before we leave, can you let
- 25:53us know how we can get in touch with you and find you. Sure,
- 25:57I have a website you hold Her twenty twenty dot com, and you
- 26:03can find out everything you want to know about me and then shop. All
- 26:07my books are arailbo on Amazon dot com under my name is Steve hold Her
- 26:14So down, I'm there. Thank you, Steve. You're such a humble
- 26:22person and I appreciate you so much for coming on here and I will see
- 26:27you on your show. The Night crew, thank you guys, Thank you
