- 0:00Welcome back to this episode of Paranormal Lens.
- 0:05Wait, what's the topic? It's totally not deer,
- 0:09right? Uh, well, it's... is... not... it... um,
- 0:19wait. It is not deer. Uh, okay. So what's the
- 0:25topic? Not deer. Yeah, what's the topic? The
- 0:33cryptid. Which one? Not deer. The cryptid, not
- 0:38deer. Which cryptid? Not -deer. We're just gonna
- 0:44do this bit for an hour? I know you're trying
- 0:49to make it a bit, and I'm trying to stop it,
- 0:52but I also don't know how to. Without, like,
- 0:56just doing awkward silence. And we don't want
- 0:58people to listen to that. That's not what our
- 1:00podcast is. No, no. People don't listen to awkward
- 1:02silence. We've had some few awkward silences.
- 1:06Yes, we have. But, like, not in the first minute.
- 1:09Imagine clicking on a podcast and, like, a minute
- 1:11in is just, like, silence for, like, five minutes.
- 1:17Welcome to our podcast, where we take deep dives
- 1:20looking at various topics through a paranormal
- 1:23lens. It's full swing into hunting season, right
- 1:29Bree? Oh yeah, well, yes, yes, very much so.
- 1:35So the date is November 20th today, so we do
- 1:42record this in advance, but do you hope by the
- 1:45time this airs on November 20th, do you hope
- 1:48you catch a deer? Have you caught a deer so far
- 1:52this season? When you're not hunting ghosts,
- 1:54you are hunting deer. catch deer you do in fact
- 1:58shoot deer well you could catch a deer but i
- 2:03think that would be very dangerous no you don't
- 2:06use naps to use guns uh yes or bows no when you
- 2:10say catch a deer i'm picturing like going full
- 2:13force running tackle jump in the air onto the
- 2:18deer tackle it to the ground put it in a choke
- 2:20hold that's catching a deer Yeah, I definitely
- 2:25don't want to do that. Oh, dear. Yeah, no, thank
- 2:29you. I'm A -okay on that front. No, thank you.
- 2:34And then you can shoot the deer. You know what?
- 2:40Sure, go for it, Angela. If that's what you want
- 2:42to do if you ever go deer hunting and you want
- 2:47to full -on tackle a deer. Who am I to stop you
- 2:51in your dreams? I don't like hunting. I wouldn't
- 2:54do that. That's valid. I feel like deers are
- 2:58like kindergarten versus Australian equivalents.
- 3:03Did you say deers with an S? Yeah, is that wrong?
- 3:06Yes. I was really talking about kangaroos. Yes,
- 3:08actually, that is very, very wrong. Never say
- 3:11deer. It's just deer. There's never an S. Even
- 3:15if you're talking about multiple, it's just deer.
- 3:17Multiple is still... Yes. I was informed not
- 3:20too long ago that moose is also moose and not
- 3:24meese. Correct. Please never use that word. Or
- 3:29meesees or... No, it's not meesees, peesees.
- 3:33It's like a fucking... It's the same with elk,
- 3:35too. So elk is also just elk. Yeah, I knew it
- 3:41was an elkies. Elkies. No, no, but anyways. Back
- 3:48to my main point. We'll get back to the knot
- 3:51deer in two seconds here, I promise. But Angela,
- 3:54would you tackle a kangaroo the same way you
- 3:56would tackle a deer? I mean, actually, I would
- 4:00go more full -on with a kangaroo. I mean, have
- 4:04you seen the - They're dangerous. Okay, I would
- 4:06much rather try to take on a deer than a kangaroo.
- 4:10Yes. A kangaroo would full -on put you in a chokehold.
- 4:14Yes, it would. And would probably kill you. Have
- 4:16you seen, like, the videos of, like, the kangaroos
- 4:19putting dogs in chokeholds? Yes, they are so
- 4:22jacked. And then the owner coming up and having
- 4:23to punch it in the face to free the dog. I'm
- 4:27surprised there's no kangaroo cryptids. They're
- 4:29already scary. I don't think there needs to be
- 4:35a cryptid related to kangaroos because kangaroos
- 4:38are already scary enough. That is very fair.
- 4:42So, take a deer. I wouldn't say they're that
- 4:45scary. They're just muscular. Take a deer. Not
- 4:49muscular. Not Australian. What makes a not deer
- 4:56different than a deer? So, that's the thing with
- 4:59not deers. Not deers look like deer, right? Until
- 5:05you start getting closer to them. And they just
- 5:09seem off. Like, some descriptions say they have
- 5:14forward -facing eyes, like predators. Or they
- 5:18act weird, they stand up on hind legs. They just
- 5:23do not act like deer and just something about
- 5:28their outward presence is slightly off. You know,
- 5:32I'm going to get really nerdy here for a second.
- 5:34Okay. You guys, are you, have you guys ever played
- 5:38Pokemon? No. No. No. Okay. Well, there is people
- 5:43who listen to this and play Pokemon might understand,
- 5:47but. There is a specific Pokemon called a Ditto,
- 5:51and what it does is it mimics other Pokemon.
- 5:56And the way that you can tell it's different
- 5:58is by the eyes. They have little tiny black eyes.
- 6:02So they look completely identical. 100 % identical,
- 6:05except for the eyes. And you don't know in the
- 6:07game until you've caught the creature, and then
- 6:10it reveals itself as a Ditto. Anyways, so that's
- 6:14how I kind of view NotDeer. look like deer until
- 6:19you get really close, and then you're like, hmm,
- 6:22you don't look like a deer. But also, at the
- 6:27same time, there are so many things that can
- 6:31explain not deer, and I am very enthusiastic
- 6:34about them. Yes. Before we burst everyone's bubble,
- 6:38I hear that our resident blonde has come across
- 6:43a cryptid or two in her travels out west to western
- 6:52Michigan. There's two blondes, Ben. Oh, are you
- 6:57blonde? Oh my god. Do not pay attention to things.
- 7:05I didn't know she was blonde. Ben, I've known
- 7:09you for eight years. But it's dark. It's darker
- 7:12than that. Yeah, it's called Dirty Blonde. Oh.
- 7:17People would say I'm dirty blonde, too, even.
- 7:20Yeah. Blonde is, like, very... Anyways, it doesn't
- 7:26matter. Okay, first of all, I'm a guy. Second
- 7:28of all, can we restart this recording? I don't
- 7:30like the way this is going. Too bad. Too bad,
- 7:35Ben. We're gonna keep trucking along. I'm enjoying
- 7:38this. I like it. All the audio listeners probably
- 7:41think I'm a blonde. Just how stupid. my comments
- 7:45i mean definitely in this lighting my hair does
- 7:48look more brunette but i'm also backlit so yeah
- 7:52if you've never met me in person i think you're
- 7:56a not blonde that's entirely possible not blonde
- 8:02so of course i'm talking about angela and her
- 8:06she's traversed out west to cities as far reaching
- 8:10as Muskegon, Michigan. The girl that wants to
- 8:14tackle a deer has actually seen the scariest
- 8:17deer I think any of us seen with her own eyes.
- 8:22I know Bree, you are gonna follow us up with
- 8:24a trail cam story that you have with a with a
- 8:28creepy deer, but Angela, what did you experience
- 8:32that frightful evening? Well... well so the suspense
- 8:43oh my god i was driving home and we we live more
- 8:53in like a wood woodsy type of area um over where
- 8:59my parents house is at so we were over in there
- 9:02we gotta drive through some windy dirt roads
- 9:04to get to the house so i was in that general
- 9:07windy dirt roads wooded area going to slow down
- 9:12the dirt road because i don't go fast downward
- 9:16roads and all of a sudden here comes this deer
- 9:19coming out right in front of me stops right in
- 9:25front of my car so obviously then i have to stop
- 9:28and he just stands there staring at me This is
- 9:32this is the weird part though that really gave
- 9:35me the crease because I'm like how how the heck
- 9:37is this possible? the deer Deer's eyes were red
- 9:44and Not really that really got me because isn't
- 9:55it when deer eyes in the headlights aren't those
- 9:59usually more golden or yellow you let yellow
- 10:03whitish type of thing glow no this this this
- 10:07deer had red glowing eyes like i don't know how
- 10:13to explain that i looked it up they're saying
- 10:16oh that usually it's not the case it's usually
- 10:18like the yellow glowing type of eyes i was like
- 10:22oh that's not cool anyway After it just stood
- 10:29there and was staring at me for a little bit.
- 10:32And all of a sudden, it got up on two legs and
- 10:35walked away. So this deer that stopped right
- 10:39in front of my car, red glowing eyes, stared
- 10:43at me like it had a full on staring contest with
- 10:46me. Did you win? I don't know. That's scary that
- 10:53you don't know. But walking away on two legs.
- 10:59Like, you spent more time describing the eyes,
- 11:01and I feel like that's the more important part
- 11:04of the story. The eyes? Or the walking on two
- 11:06legs? The walking on the two legs. Oh. I thought
- 11:09the eyes were more of the weird part. I think
- 11:15everything is so creepy about this. Like, the
- 11:18fact that you think you might have lost a staring
- 11:21contest against a deer with glowing red eyes.
- 11:25And then it just, like... literally stood up
- 11:28and walked away. It didn't just take, like, two
- 11:34steps and then just, like, went back on its legs
- 11:36and ran. It walked all the way into the woods.
- 11:41On two legs. Like, kept walking. I don't know
- 11:45if it kept walking once it got into the woods.
- 11:49But it was more than, like, three steps. Four
- 11:50steps. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it was like... That's
- 11:53weird. You know what's funny is I literally saw
- 11:57a video on TikTok today of a doe in someone's
- 12:04backyard standing up on its hind legs and just
- 12:07like hopping. Was it walking? No, it was like
- 12:10hopping through the person's yard. But it wasn't
- 12:12hopping. It was like walking. Oh, that's interesting.
- 12:17It was like, wait. Like one foot after the other?
- 12:21Kind of, yeah. It wasn't like, oh, I'm human
- 12:24strides, but it was like one foot after another.
- 12:28It's definitely interesting. Yeah. So you caught
- 12:33a not -deer on camera, Bree? No. But I caught
- 12:43what could be thought of as a not -deer. to an
- 12:48individual who doesn't know deer very well and
- 12:57would make like they would look at it and be
- 12:59like there's something weird going on with that
- 13:01deer it doesn't look like it's real so that's
- 13:05one of the things that i want to talk about with
- 13:07not deer is well there's multiple things about
- 13:12not deer but one thing that can cause people
- 13:15to think of a deer as being a not deer is injuries
- 13:20and genetic deformities so the one that i caught
- 13:27on trail camera which i'm sure you're probably
- 13:29gonna share it had a broken jaw um the tongue
- 13:36was hanging out of the side of its mouth like
- 13:37couldn't really eat all that well Its face looked
- 13:41gnarly. Like on the trail cam, you really can't
- 13:44tell what's wrong with this deer other than its
- 13:46jaw looks weird and its tongue sticking out.
- 13:49And I couldn't, I didn't, couldn't really tell
- 13:52what was wrong with it either based on the camera
- 13:54until I saw it come in while I was hunting and
- 13:59could see physically with my eyes and not through
- 14:03a pixelated trail camera that it had a broken
- 14:06jaw whether that was because it got shot it got
- 14:10kicked had some sort of deformity i don't know
- 14:14but its jaw was broken and it was somehow living
- 14:19well i know why it was living because my neighbors
- 14:21were feeding it bread but um how sweet yeah i
- 14:25don't think it survived through the winter though
- 14:27unfortunately yeah but anyways so there's a lot
- 14:32of things like i said nature's brutal and deer
- 14:39get injured and it can cause outward physical
- 14:42appearances to change. And that's scary to people
- 14:47sometimes. And it can cause them to look at a
- 14:49deer and be like, Hmm, there's something off
- 14:52with that deer. That's a not deer. Yes. Breaking
- 14:55news. Deer don't have hospitals to go to. So
- 15:00I remember injured. That's how it is for them.
- 15:05When I was younger and hunting, a couple times
- 15:13we had some piebalds in the area, which if you
- 15:15don't know what piebaldism is, it's when usually
- 15:19a solid colored animal suddenly appears with
- 15:23white spots or patterns. Sometimes they can even
- 15:27be fully white. Sometimes it's albinism, but
- 15:32piebaldism... They're different. I'm not going
- 15:36to go into that, but anyways, so piebaldism,
- 15:39they get some white splash color. We had a couple
- 15:42piebalds in our area, and that happens when too
- 15:46many recessive traits get crossed from inbreeding.
- 15:51So essentially, people go out hunting. They shoot
- 15:56mostly all the bucks, right? Depending on the
- 16:03season, depending on what the DNR has put out
- 16:06that year, what you can shoot. But most people
- 16:09go out and shoot bucks. In my area, there's not
- 16:14a lot of big bucks, so people just shoot the
- 16:16little ones when they see them. So that causes
- 16:18an overpopulation of does. So when there isn't
- 16:22a lot of... bucks or when bucks and there's an
- 16:26overabundance of does the does move around a
- 16:29lot they see the same bucks that aren't moving
- 16:32because the deer they aren't having to travel
- 16:35to find the does so the hunters aren't shooting
- 16:38the bucks and it causes um inbreeding and recessive
- 16:44traits start showing up This is the hard part
- 16:47with deer management and the DNR and a lot of
- 16:50times why they get so much backlash because people
- 16:54think that they're not regulating them well and
- 16:57they're putting out too much tags and all this
- 16:58other stuff. Well, see, they do it for a reason
- 17:00because, one, you don't want these recessive
- 17:04traits because it causes things like piebaldism,
- 17:07which is, yeah, very pretty, but it is a recessive
- 17:11trait. And a lot of these other genes start popping
- 17:14up. dwarfism okay short list what are the most
- 17:18common if you were to go through like the other
- 17:20things like what are the most common that you
- 17:22see given that you know we are northern michigan
- 17:26which is yes a Why this topic is so relevant
- 17:30to us. Brianna's northern Michigan. We're lower
- 17:33Michigan. True, but we're still Michigan. Still
- 17:35Michigan. This might not be so relevant to the
- 17:39California listeners. Firearms season is a statewide
- 17:43holiday in Michigan. Yes. I don't know if it
- 17:46was for you guys, but I got November 15th off
- 17:49in high school. Or in grade school. Oh, you did.
- 17:53We definitely did it. We get November 15th off
- 17:56in grade school. That's what separates our regions
- 18:00of the state, but still, you know, we are still
- 18:03the state of Michigan. You know, that's a good
- 18:05thing to look at. Did I get November 15th off,
- 18:09or did my parents just not have to go to school?
- 18:13Now that's, that's a real question. Either way,
- 18:14I'm guarantee other people do the same thing.
- 18:17So, but this, this, this makes me think, you
- 18:20know, when people are always debating about where's
- 18:22the line, where does it become Northern Michigan?
- 18:25Where is that line? I guess when schools start
- 18:28giving the kids off November 15th off for hunting,
- 18:34I say that's where the line is. Yeah. I feel
- 18:38like I have to look into this now because I don't.
- 18:42I don't remember if I actually got it off or
- 18:44not. Anyways, so you said a short list of some
- 18:48other things. And I was going to say, like, we're
- 18:51also in Michigan. So these might just be like,
- 18:52are there Michigan specific things that might
- 18:55not affect other deer and other populations?
- 18:58Well, I'm going to also mention some things that
- 19:00are in other populations as well. So this is
- 19:03the short list, kind of very comprehensive list.
- 19:07So number one that we do see in Michigan. chronic
- 19:11wasting's disease yes cwd yes um two i'm not
- 19:19i haven't seen this particularly myself i actually
- 19:22haven't seen chronic wasting's disease either
- 19:24um but white -tailed deer's uh fibroma so that's
- 19:31when they have like all the tumors all over them
- 19:33yeah I mean, I've seen that in like rescues and
- 19:38stuff and like rehab facilities, but I've never
- 19:41seen it in the wild. Then now we're getting into
- 19:47some things that are farther south. I don't know
- 19:49if they've made it all the way up into northern
- 19:51Michigan yet, but EHD or episodic hemorrhagic
- 19:57disease. And then also blue tongue disease, which
- 20:02both of those. yeah those are both very similar
- 20:06and also transmitted the same way um and kind
- 20:11of have the same symptoms but are technically
- 20:15classified different so yeah so you guys are
- 20:22vaguely familiar with cwd because i've definitely
- 20:27talked about it before and if you aren't from
- 20:30michigan I mean, it's a very, it's unfortunately
- 20:35chronic wasting disease is very prevalent in
- 20:38a lot of southern states out west. And it's unfortunately
- 20:42made its way all the way to Michigan. It's slowly
- 20:46working its way up the state. And I'm also very
- 20:49passionate about it because I did work with the
- 20:52DNR for a season. Not doing technically CWD testing.
- 20:58I didn't work in a CWD zone. I did TB testing,
- 21:03so essentially I spent all day cutting heads
- 21:06off deer. That was fun. Kind of. I guess it depends
- 21:14on who you talk to. It was interesting. It was
- 21:17nice talking to hunters and helping spread information
- 21:23and helping them. like encouraging to them to
- 21:31help with testing and research further into tuberculosis
- 21:35and deer in Michigan and you know that sort of
- 21:38stuff and I also got to see a lot of really big
- 21:42bucks and it was very nice and it made me very
- 21:45jealous but that's besides the point last night
- 21:48there was a buck that ran out in front of our
- 21:50car that was cool It was a real one, though.
- 21:55It was the first time I've seen a deer with horns.
- 21:58I was about to say, what do you mean it was a
- 22:00real one? And then I'm like, oh wait, we're talking
- 22:02about not deer. But also, Bree, you sound like
- 22:07your DNR stint was the hospital for deer that
- 22:11Angela said didn't exist. No. In some ways, you're
- 22:16doing testing. Yeah, but all of the deer that
- 22:19came... And were dead. Very much dead. It was
- 22:23more of a mortuary. A funeral home? No. Neither
- 22:29of those either. Oh. We just collected specimens.
- 22:35There is one hospital My job involved buckets
- 22:38of bleach and a hacksaw. That was it. Do you
- 22:43want to know of the one deer hospital I know?
- 22:47Oh. It's the D -E -E -R. D -E -E -R. Then...
- 22:56I was holding onto that for like 30 minutes,
- 23:00you guys. Give me my moment. Okay, continue.
- 23:03Yeah. So, the one thing... Oh my god. D -E -E
- 23:08-R. D -E -E -R. What does the D -E stand for?
- 23:15The E -R. Emergency room. D emergency emergency
- 23:22room. Okay. Alright, anyways, but chronic wasting
- 23:27disease. How much you guys, like I said, you
- 23:33guys know vaguely about it. The one thing that
- 23:36I find scary about it is that it is a prion disease.
- 23:41Oh no. Do you guys know what prions are? Or what
- 23:44a prion disease is? Not really. Have I ever had
- 23:49one? I hope you haven't had a prion disease.
- 23:52That means probably no. No, I don't. Yeah, so
- 23:58essentially it's one, it is a neurological disease
- 24:02and it affects the proteins in DNA. So what it
- 24:09does is it essentially like rewrites itself over
- 24:13and over and again. It mutates the proteins.
- 24:17and this is what causes like damage to the brain
- 24:22and the nervous system and causes the deer to
- 24:25go all haywire and act ridiculous and you know
- 24:31um lose weight not really eat a lot of food they're
- 24:36just it really messes them up there's no recovery
- 24:40for it that if they get cdwd it is a death sentence
- 24:44And the scary thing with a prion disease is we
- 24:47don't know too much about it. And there's always
- 24:51that risk that it could mutate and transfer to
- 24:56humans. Do you think would there be a way, would
- 25:01it be pretty much a death sentence for humans
- 25:03if they get it? Right now? Yes. I think so. But
- 25:10also, I'm not that science -y, and like I said,
- 25:13I don't think there's that much research into
- 25:16it at this time. But hopefully, they're working
- 25:21on something in the background just in case it
- 25:23becomes more of a reality instead of a possibility.
- 25:28Yeah. What does sound abundantly clear, though,
- 25:32is when you start talking about mutations and
- 25:34weird behaviors and... um and all that it does
- 25:39sound very much like a not deer yeah it sounds
- 25:42sounds uh not right yeah but like it doesn't
- 25:48it doesn't just happen in white tail deer though
- 25:51because it is sex a sex excuse me effects i've
- 25:58never heard of that one it affects all cervid
- 26:01species so um deer White -tailed deer, mule deer,
- 26:07elk, moose. I think even some, like, pronghorn
- 26:13antelope can get CWD. But I might be incorrect
- 26:17about that. Don't quote me on that. We've won
- 26:205 -10. Kangaroos? No. No. It's not a kangaroo
- 26:24disease. Thank goodness. Though, hey, I totally
- 26:27forgot to mention that some people think that...
- 26:33Not deer can be explained by kangaroos. And I
- 26:37know that's probably why you brought up kangaroos
- 26:39earlier. Like an escaped kangaroo from a zoo
- 26:42or something. Yeah, exactly. Because they walk
- 26:46on two legs. They have front facing eyes like
- 26:48a predator. And that kind of matches the description
- 26:51of a not deer. And they have the big ears. They
- 26:55have like the longer nose. So they're saying
- 26:58like all these sightings of not deer. could be
- 27:03escaped kangaroos. I highly fucking doubt it.
- 27:09Yes, it is very unreasonable to think of, but
- 27:13it is not unreasonable to think that maybe one
- 27:17or two sightings could be a kangaroo, because
- 27:20there are people who do farm -raise kangaroo
- 27:23for kangaroo meat. Not here, though. I'm pretty
- 27:28sure, yeah, there are... Kangaroo farms. Probably
- 27:32not in Michigan, but in the United States. So
- 27:36we're not even talking about zoos. We're talking
- 27:37about, like, are these kangaroo farms, like,
- 27:40well -known? Like, can you research? Probably
- 27:43not. I don't know. I think Angela's looking some
- 27:46stuff up right now. There might be a kangaroo
- 27:48conspiracy. Honestly, I take it not there. I
- 27:51know you can own a kangaroo in some states. No
- 27:54way. Yeah. But anyways, so... You can't even
- 27:59own some insects. Sorry, continue. So, like I
- 28:02was saying, I know it sounds unreasonable and
- 28:06absolutely absurd, but it is not so far out of
- 28:10reason that it is unreasonable. In some cases.
- 28:16In some cases. Like I said, I don't think kangaroo
- 28:21are the main cause of not deer, but I don't think
- 28:25it should be taken out of the drawing for how
- 28:28absurd it sounds. Well, what do you say the reason
- 28:32not deer is such a intriguing and also important
- 28:37topic to discuss is not because there's, like,
- 28:39one thing that debunks them all, but, like, there's
- 28:42so many reasons that people still claim. Yeah.
- 28:46You know, so it could be any combination of all
- 28:50these explanations. I'm looking it up. I mean,
- 28:53I don't really see anything about, like, farms,
- 28:55but there's, like, this place in... southeast
- 29:00michigan um called big dreams ranch and it looks
- 29:05like they got a lot of kangaroos there but it's
- 29:07not a farm not a farm it's like a sanctuary yeah
- 29:11so it's not without reason that a kangaroo could
- 29:14escape from somewhere maybe the kangaroo has
- 29:18big dreams of its own yeah needs to get out of
- 29:21the sanctuary that was a good good break of um
- 29:25in between talking about different diseases That
- 29:28can cause not deer syndrome. I'm going to call
- 29:31it not deer syndrome. NDS. Yeah. So the other
- 29:39thing that I mentioned was EHD and blue tongue
- 29:43disease. Like I said, I don't think either of
- 29:47these are in Michigan yet. If they are, they're
- 29:51further south. Because this is spread. by an
- 29:58insect called midges. Have you guys ever heard
- 30:03of midges? I don't know what it is. So they're
- 30:06little tiny, like, almost flies, that bite. Oh,
- 30:11one of those really tiny, small flies? Yeah,
- 30:15yeah. Like, we'll consider them, like, I don't
- 30:22know if you guys have ever heard of the no -see
- 30:24-ums. no seeums no you've never heard of them
- 30:28referred to that they're like these little tiny
- 30:31fly like they're they're midges but like they're
- 30:34so tiny they're you can't really see them anyways
- 30:37doesn't really matter we call them no seeums
- 30:39um but you can see them when they're in big like
- 30:43clumps of them clusters yeah so ehd um and blue
- 30:51tongue disease. Both of them are viral diseases
- 30:54that are spread by these midges. And the reason
- 30:58why you don't see it as much up here in northern
- 31:01Michigan, or if we see it much in Michigan, is
- 31:05because we have that winter die -off of the mosquitoes
- 31:09and midges. I do want to say that this has been
- 31:12the most Michigan episode we've ever done. Oh
- 31:17yeah, don't you know, dear? I do. Now we just
- 31:20need to do one about Dog Man. Dog Man. You know
- 31:25what would be fun if we do Dog Man hunting? We
- 31:29should. We should do a live recording from the
- 31:31woods. We should bring Carl. Bring Carl. It'll
- 31:35be awesome. He was one of our friends from back
- 31:40in college and he had his own Dog Man experience.
- 31:48Let's bring Carl onto the podcast and we talk
- 31:51about Dogman. He has a really good story. It's
- 31:53great. It's undebunkable. I can never get over
- 31:57his telling of his Dogman story. Me neither.
- 32:01I want to know the details so bad. We'll have
- 32:04him on, either in the woods or, you know, over
- 32:07Zoom. We'll have him on. I hear a lot of stories
- 32:10about Dogman, and I'm honestly, I'm like, oh,
- 32:14there might be something out there about Dogman,
- 32:16and it's kind of crazy. I don't know. We'll save
- 32:19that for another day. Yeah, we'll save that for
- 32:20a different day. Down the road, we can't do too
- 32:23many cryptid ones back to back here. You know
- 32:26what's funny about... Deer. Just going back to
- 32:30deer for a second. My family and I have a coined
- 32:33term that we call deer sometimes. We call them
- 32:37dirt -da -durs. Dirt -da -durs? Dirt -da -durs.
- 32:43Deer are so stupid. You're driving down the road,
- 32:46right? You see deer on the side of the road.
- 32:48They're acting like they're going to cross the
- 32:50road. So you slow down, right? They either take
- 32:53off the other way, or they're like... oh yeah
- 32:55i'm going to cross the road they kind of just
- 32:58dirt across the road instead of you know taking
- 33:01off so we call them dirt i just had to share
- 33:07that and i think uh to end this on um two i have
- 33:12two i have two things one is a statement one
- 33:14is a question one i think this is a very important
- 33:17to look at not only from a um scientific point
- 33:20of view but also a paranormal lens type of view
- 33:23right because if there's a lesson to be had here
- 33:25i think it is uh that not everything that looks
- 33:29off is scary not everything that's weird and
- 33:32you don't understand is scary and there's or
- 33:35paranormal or paranormal and there's often uh
- 33:39logical often sadder more complex and complicated
- 33:45reasons why things are the way they are and even
- 33:48though the simplest explanation sometimes to
- 33:50you is that it must be a ghost or a cryptid doesn't
- 33:54mean that's the case and that's how we look at
- 33:56deer through a paranormal lens are you sure you
- 34:02didn't see a kangaroo like i feel i feel like
- 34:06their eyes actually do glow red wait wait wait
- 34:09no wait let me look this up let me look at each
- 34:12other's minds I was going to ask my last question
- 34:15because that's a statement and a question. My
- 34:17question was, do we think Angela saw a deer,
- 34:21a not deer, or a kangaroo? I'm voting kangaroo,
- 34:26honestly. Oh, wait, wait, wait. It says, yes,
- 34:29kangaroo eyes can glow red or a reddish orange.
- 34:34See? See? See? When lights shine on them. Well,
- 34:37fuck. Was there a kangaroo, Lucy? Maybe you saw
- 34:39a kangaroo. Let me look. Let me look. Let me
- 34:42look. Kangaroos loose in West Michigan. So you
- 34:46can look that up after this. No, I'm looking
- 34:49it up right now. You know the exact date this
- 34:52occurred? Our audience deserves to know. Hold
- 34:55on. Have there been any loose... What's your
- 35:07question, Ben? That was the question. Yeah, I
- 35:11thought you had another one. No, that's why you
- 35:13read my mind. I feel like our viewers could actually
- 35:22look this up on their own if they really wanted
- 35:25to. No, because low -key legit, one second. low
- 35:30-key legit one second um in march 2022 which
- 35:37could have been i think mine was more like 2021
- 35:40but it could have been maybe 2022 there was a
- 35:44kangaroo named douglas that was that was spotted
- 35:49hopping around in hardsley township in lapierre
- 35:53county Okay, so that's on the opposite side of
- 35:57the state. That's a year later. Nowhere near
- 35:59you. Could he have hobbled all the way to West
- 36:03Michigan, maybe? Probably not. Hmm. It's likely
- 36:07that you saw a deer, but, like, kangaroos' eyes
- 36:12do glow red, and it did walk away on two legs.
- 36:17Ditto. Thanks for listening to this week's episode
- 36:23of Paranormal Lens. If you liked what you heard,
- 36:25every five -star rating and positive review tells

- 36:34and every one of you, and we'll see you next
- 36:36Thursday for another paranormal deep dive.
