- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hey everyone, welcome to the show.
- 0:24I hope that you are having an awesome week.
- 0:27I'm so glad you're here. I was talking to my teenager the
- 0:31other day and we were having this conversation and, and she
- 0:35kind of broke from the conversation as teenagers do.
- 0:39And she looked at me and she said, I think I might be
- 0:42telepathic or really intuitive or something like that because I
- 0:46think that I can predict the future.
- 0:49And I said, oh, yeah. I said, well, what makes you
- 0:52think that? She said, well, I have these
- 0:55thoughts about things and then they just happen.
- 0:59And we were kind of laughing about it.
- 1:01But of course, I told her that she most certainly was intuitive
- 1:05because most people do have a, a pretty deep sense of intuition,
- 1:08especially if they cultivate it. And I said, you know, maybe you
- 1:12are telepathic, why not? Who knows, you could be.
- 1:16And even though she said it in kind of a joking way and our
- 1:20conversation was pretty light, it got me thinking about the
- 1:24fact that there actually is a way that most people don't think
- 1:27about in which they are very predictive of their future.
- 1:30And in this episode today, I want to talk about how we often
- 1:34live up to our own predictions. On this podcast, we talk a lot
- 1:38about the language of our life. You've heard me probably do
- 1:41multiple episodes on that very idea.
- 1:44It's the way that we talk about our work, our relationships, our
- 1:48circumstances, our life in general.
- 1:52It's the language that we use. We talk about the stories that
- 1:57we tell ourselves, about the perspectives that we have that
- 2:01are driven by our thoughts and our beliefs that we hold onto.
- 2:04We talk about that stuff all the time on the show.
- 2:08And all of those things act like tiny predictions into the future
- 2:14for your brain. Think about this.
- 2:17You might tell yourself, oh, I'm really terrible at managing my
- 2:20time and my life is very chaotic.
- 2:23And then often because you expect that you're terrible with
- 2:27managing your time, you don't manage your time well.
- 2:31And then as a result, your life feels chaotic.
- 2:36And people miss the connection here.
- 2:38They miss how powerful our brain can be in its role in creating
- 2:43our life, and it's really because people don't understand
- 2:46how the brain works. But they miss how powerful our
- 2:50thoughts and our language, both external and internal, can
- 2:54really, truly be. Every story that you tell
- 2:57yourself is giving your brain a prediction, and then your brain
- 3:02takes that prediction and creates your reality.
- 3:06We've spoken about this in the past, but to go over it again,
- 3:10when we have a thought or belief that repeats, that becomes part
- 3:14of our identity. It is therefore something that
- 3:18our brain looks to justify and support.
- 3:22And it does that through a system called the reticular
- 3:24activating system, the Ras. It's a function in the brain of
- 3:30filtering information that comes from the external stimuli in the
- 3:34world, and there are millions of pieces of information that are
- 3:37coming into our brain at all moments of the day.
- 3:41It would totally overwhelm our brain if we didn't have some
- 3:44sort of filter to sift and sort out the information that was
- 3:49deemed important for us, for our survival, for our well-being.
- 3:53And when we have a thought or belief, the information that is
- 3:57sorted and sifted and really allowed to come through the
- 4:01filter is the information that aligns with the thoughts and
- 4:05beliefs that we really have locked in.
- 4:09But we're not very careful with our thoughts or our language,
- 4:14are we? We're actually pretty cavalier
- 4:17about it. We say things to ourselves, like
- 4:20I'm really bad at managing my schedule.
- 4:23I'm not a very disciplined person.
- 4:26I'm just wired this way. I'm not great at relationship.
- 4:31I'm terrible with money. Life never goes my way.
- 4:35I'm never going to get ahead. My my spouse, my husband, my
- 4:40wife. They never understand me.
- 4:42I'm not valued at my work. I'm not a really motivated
- 4:46person. I'm not a confident person.
- 4:49I'm always going to be behind in my life, and these things roll
- 4:53off the tongue for me because they're things that I hear
- 4:55people say often. But if we could understand the
- 4:59power of our stories and how these beliefs or ideas or
- 5:02thoughts signal the brain to look for the evidence that
- 5:06supports those ideas, we would be a lot more careful about what
- 5:11we say to ourselves internally and out loud.
- 5:15Every story you're telling yourself is giving your brain a
- 5:19prediction. And your brain will take that
- 5:22prediction and run with it, filtering information, releasing
- 5:26neurochemicals as a result of those specific thoughts, and
- 5:29having all kinds of downstream effects that will create a
- 5:33reality based on those thoughts and stories.
- 5:36And the implications of this are so far reaching.
- 5:40I think about this often and it it boggles my mind.
- 5:44I think if people really grasped the power of this, we would be
- 5:48so much more careful about the way that we speak about
- 5:51ourselves and the people in our lives and just our circumstances
- 5:55in general. So I don't know if my daughter
- 5:59is telepathic. I don't know if you are
- 6:02telepathic. I don't know if you are a
- 6:04skilled intuitive. But I do know that you have the
- 6:07ability to predict the future with your words and your
- 6:11thoughts and your beliefs. Biology supports that, and
- 6:15neuroscience will back it up with receipts.
- 6:19You know, people always say I want to live up to my own
- 6:22expectations, but I would add to that and I would say you want to
- 6:26live into your own predictions. So be really thoughtful about
- 6:31what you are predicting. Bring some awareness to how you
- 6:35speak about your life this week, maybe how you speak about
- 6:37yourself, and see if perhaps you could start to shift those
- 6:41predictions to be more aligned with the life that you actually
- 6:45want to create. This is a short episode today
- 6:49because I don't think we need to be labor at this point.
- 6:51I think we need to integrate it. And so I hope that you can
- 6:55Createspace for that this week and feel the shift when you
- 6:58start to upgrade your predictions.
- 7:02I'm glad you're here. I'm glad you're listening.
- 7:04Thank you for always being ready to Impact.
