- 2:53gonna give you a break from regott a little bit today, plus you get
- 2:55to play the always popular ten quite ten questions. Excited to play ten questions?
- 2:59I can't wait. It's listen. Impromptu stuff is my favorite thing.
- 3:02Well, and you're very good at it, and we're going to see how
- 3:05you do on ten questions. Let's bring in Hannah Gardner from the Canal Charleston
- 3:07You Maine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Hannah,
- 3:10good morning, how are you? I am doing fine, Hannah.
- 3:15Brian Brian, Hannah, I know I couldn't remember when you guys I've handed
- 3:21before I get you started with our Adopt Me Please pet of the Week.
- 3:23I got a serious thing I need to throw out here. I got a
- 3:25text to the show says I'm serious right now, says a texture, and
- 3:30I never am. There is appeers what appears to be an appliance like a
- 3:36freaking refrigerator in the passing lane Westmound on sixty four in the curve near Institute.
- 3:43Dead serious, crazy, says a text. A refrigerator. Apparently,
- 3:47according to a text, there is an appliance a refrigerator or something like it
- 3:51in the passing lane on sixty four near sixty four West near the curved institute,
- 3:57so it's obviously not running so you can catch it. Well, there
- 3:59you go, all right. I just want to make sure to be careful.
- 4:01Be careful. You're gonna be traveling out there this morning, so we'll
- 4:04get Jeff Petty on that to go see what's up with that room and soon
- 4:08if there's any food, yeah exactly, I mean it is, there's some
- 4:11left over beer. What do we got? But be careful, all right,
- 4:15Uh handle, Let's get to the story of the dog. Name Wren
- 4:18w r e N. Picture posted as always Dave Allen Radio and Facebook and
- 4:21at Dave A seventy on Twitter. Tell us about Wren Hannah. Yeah,
- 4:28so she's Wren as w R e n just in case anybody wants to look
- 4:32her up on our website. But she is two years old and she's not
- 4:39fixed yet, but she will be. Um, she came into us as
- 4:43a stray, but she has been great. Well she's doing with us.
- 4:46She's been very, very outgoing. She does really well with other placeful dogs.
- 4:50Um, she's she's about forty five pounds, but she pulls her release
- 4:56a little bit. She just needs a good bit of like re fortunately training
- 5:00things. Like that with her on the leash. But she's very kid friendly
- 5:04from what we've noticed. Of course, no matter how friendly they are,
- 5:08we always advise caution for a while just to make sure. I even say
- 5:13about caution for the rest of your life, even if you got it as
- 5:15a puppy, just because you never know. But other than that, she
- 5:19loves to play, she loves to go outside, she loves to go on
- 5:23adventure. She'd be a good hiking buddy, she'd be a good travel buddy.
- 5:29She's just really overall, really really well. She's a social butterfly,
- 5:31is what we call them. So those are the dogs had to shelter that
- 5:34are more friendly with people, dogs and just kind of all around everything kids
- 5:40as well. But she came in on June twenty six, and she hasn't
- 5:44been foster, she hasn't been adopted, and she hasn't had any applications on
- 5:46her either. And she is adorable. So I do not know why.
- 5:49Well, she looks like she's got it. I see the picture of her,
- 5:53and she looks like she's got a happy demeanor. It's just you know,
- 5:57the type of dog you would think, Okay, this could be rough.
- 5:59Note he's not a happy look to her. Yes, yes, she's
- 6:02very happy dog. She's very playful. Like I said, now that playfulness
- 6:05can sometimes come off with her being rough, but she just needs, like
- 6:10I said, you know, like a little bit of that training behind that,
- 6:13just to understand, you know, what boundaries are and stuff. But
- 6:15she's very, very good and she'd be a great dog her like a family
- 6:20dog, even if they had another dog, because a sibling for her would
- 6:24be a great idea to help with that energy that she does have. She
- 6:28has, and there's been variable animal the night before, all those good qualities,
- 6:32and there's been variable animal the night before all those good qualities, and
- 6:39there's been very little interest in Ran so far. How is that possible?
- 6:43I mean, this is a such a beautiful dog. Go look at the
- 6:46picture Dave Allen Radio on Facebook or at Dave a Sebody on Twitter. It's
- 6:48a beautiful dog. I mean, how's there not been interested in this dog?
- 6:51Hannah, Honestly, I do not know. I think that sometimes people
- 6:56come up to the shelter, you know, if they're physically coming up to
- 6:59the shelter and they go through. But some dogs just kind of get looked
- 7:02over, which you know, people have their specialties to say, like a
- 7:08dog, but rand is just she's very very sweet. She's in the back
- 7:13of our kennels, but she's one't that like you couldn't e mess. She's
- 7:15always smiling at you. But she's very very sweet. And again I don't
- 7:20know how. She doesn't have any applications or anything on her. She should
- 7:26hopefully after this, she will hopefully should get to off this. But she
- 7:30definitely needs a good home and like I said, an ideal home for her
- 7:32would be someone who has like either there are more adventurous people where they want
- 7:38to go out more like hiking more or go outside or even maybe not hike
- 7:42food just like take her to dog parks often, or someone who has another
- 7:46dog who is equally as playful and would love to play with her and maybe
- 7:50even travel around or something, because she would honestly be the best songs for
- 7:55it. She's very very good. She really looks like and I'm serious about
- 7:59this, looks like she could probably because I said, she has that happy
- 8:01demeanor. Looks like she could probably cuddle like you wouldn't believe with somebody on
- 8:05accounch or even sleep within the bed. Mhm. She does she's very very
- 8:11sweet and she um. When she Chris came in, everybody actually thought that
- 8:16she had like a swollen face, but absolutely not. She just has a
- 8:18bigger face. I know some people like that. People like that, Hannah.
- 8:24I'm always complimenting you folks on the wonderful job you do on social media,
- 8:28but I understand that, uh uh, you're the shelter there was recently
- 8:33named is one of the top shelter sites in America to follow on social media.
- 8:37There's a website called good Goodgood dot com who follows these sort of things.
- 8:43That's a pretty big honor. I think you guys made like the top
- 8:46eleven in America for this, So I mean hats off to to you folks
- 8:52and the people that do your social media up there. Yes, yes,
- 8:54they are amazing. They do very very well. I know that Adian Sarah
- 9:00handled a lot of it, so kudos to them because they do a great
- 9:03job at it. And we did make that is amazing and we hope to
- 9:09see it again. A couple of things I want to bring up here before
- 9:13we let you go. There's a sad story that seems to so far be
- 9:15turning out okay. Earlier this weekend, someone dumped ten puppies as a shelter
- 9:20that were around. It was around they were around two and a half weeks
- 9:22old. Now I found out by reading your social media that you did find
- 9:26fosters for them, which is good. But these puppies are going to need
- 9:30homes. Yes, yeah, so um, I would say, you know,
- 9:35it'll be a couple of weeks. It will be probably about like maybe
- 9:37like four or more weeks or so before they can even be thought about.
- 9:41But they are super super cute. They're all black, some of them have
- 9:45a little like white seat. Some of them how atually went out. Are
- 9:48all extremely cute, and they actually went out extremely fast. So as soon
- 9:52as we've posted that we need fosters for them, I showed up to the
- 9:58shelter. I wasn't working in that day, but I showed up to the
- 10:01shelter because I was going to offer to take too, and there was literally
- 10:03all of them already had sponsors. So that's good. It's good have a
- 10:07great foster outreach. But it's just amazing, you know, all the people
- 10:11that come to help out. Yeah, we went a text of the show.
- 10:15I don't know whether you have information on this or not, Hannah says,
- 10:18can you ask Hannah how the kitten is doing? It was thrown for
- 10:20the interstate bridge yesterday. Were you aware of the story. Oh, I'm
- 10:26not one hundred percent sure. I'm aware of the story, but I'm not
- 10:28one hundred cent sure. I believe that there was another rescue that was looking
- 10:35at it. Maybe they brought him to us. I'm not sure. But
- 10:37you know next week if we hear more on that act. Okay, no,
- 10:41well, I appreciate that, and a follow up on that text of
- 10:43texts. By the way, to our state legislature, the evil treatment of
- 10:46innocent animals is out of control. I would I would agree with that.
- 10:48Before we let you go, I do want to get this in. I
- 10:52know that you folks have been doing this Missile's pet foundations, the empty the
- 10:56shelter of it, and that is continuing now right. Yes, it goes
- 11:01on until the thirty first, so the very last day of the month it
- 11:03goes on to. And that does mean that all our adults, dogs,
- 11:09cats, and kittens are twenty five dollar adoption fees, but that does not
- 11:15include the puppies. We do have some puppies that are included, but those
- 11:18are typically the puppies that have either been there for a while that is not
- 11:22common for puppies, or or maybe even that day, just aren't getting the
- 11:28attention that they need. So we're wanting to get to them a home quick
- 11:31time. Maybe that twenty five will help them, So that would be amazing,
- 11:35well, and that's what we hope for. I was away from the
- 11:37show last week. Coope filled in for me and we had the dog named
- 11:39Cheese on the show last week. Cheese got adopted this past week, so
- 11:43I'm very happy to hear about that. Hey, Hannah, we gotta run.
- 11:46I appreciate you as always. We'll talk next week. Thanks a lot.
- 11:50Kind of review a little bit, Brian. It's Wren, faith and
- 11:54let's let's kind of review a little bit, Brian. It's Wren and let's
- 12:00let's kind of review a little bit, Brian. It's Wren. Female two
- 12:03years old, not fixed ye, but willbe came in as a stray,
- 12:07very outgoing, does well with other playful dogs. A bit of a bigger
- 12:11dog at forty five pounds. Yeah, and she said that he does pull
- 12:15on a leash a little bit and but that could be worked with. Listen,
- 12:18that's that's easy, that's fun. Take him out enough, get him
- 12:20worn out and back inside and let him nap again. But no, this,
- 12:24I'm serious. This dog is really really cute. Great smile about her
- 12:28and listen. All she needs is a loving home. I agree, and
- 12:31also kid friendly as well. Yes, very much, so very important on
- 12:35that and it is. It is very much awesome. Go check out the
- 12:39picture. It's Dave Allen Radio and Facebook or at Dave a seventy on Twitter
- 12:41and you'll see the picture of Wren. We got cheese adopted last week.
- 12:45Coop did that what I did and I was away, But Coop got cheese
- 12:48adopted last week. Coop and handed it. So let's go for Wren.

- 17:22his side in here. So we'll get things started about six thirty down it'd
- 17:26had That River Front Park. The show and bomb stage will be hopping and
- 17:30popping with some great music from the Soda Pop Gypsies were wonderful after Elkins.
- 17:34They do the blues, a little rock. Jamie, the female vocalist is
- 17:38fantabulous. So Soda Pop Gypsies at six thirty they'll play for about an hour
- 17:44and we'll get the stage ready for Fleetwood Mac. They'll do two forty five
- 17:48minutes sets seven forty five and then again at eight forty five. And they
- 17:52they are in the house. I want to back out and let you talk
- 17:55to them. Maybe they'll do it tune for you. But guys, how
- 17:56are we doing? Appreciate everybody being here? Now? Who who do we
- 18:00need to talk to? First? Here? Jim may need you have to
- 18:03help them with the microphone a little bit here, so let's just introduce.
- 18:06I'll have maybe one person introduce everybody. How's it all right, So I'm
- 18:11Hillary and I do the Stephen Knicks bang okay, and then we have Caroline
- 18:15Purrs, Christine McBee and Mike Epstein as Lindsey Buckingham. Okay. But our
- 18:19John mcpee and our Nick Fleetwood are probably still asleep. Okay. Well you
- 18:26know they're living like this nineteen seventy five all over again. You know,
- 18:30the original of Fleetwood Mac. That's awesome. So so tell me about you
- 18:33folks. How did this whole thing come about? So we were original,
- 18:37doing original music, our own songs for a lot a lot of years.
- 18:41Been about sixteen years ago. We decided to get out of the stinky van,
- 18:45which by the way, we are back in Okay. Well thought that
- 18:47we would get out of the stinky van for a while, um and do
- 18:51it, you know, and do a family thing. And we had a
- 18:55letter. Oh he's my husband. Okay. Yeah, it's this has becoming
- 18:59more more like you got you guys took this, this whole Fleetwood Mac thing
- 19:08way too far, you know. Uh, But that's awesome. So what
- 19:14is it about Fleetwood Mac in your opinion? That I mean, because their
- 19:15music is timeless, it goes it's one of those in radio. We use
- 19:19a term called non offensive, and what that means is is that everybody there's
- 19:23those artists like a Bob Seeger or the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac that just about
- 19:27everybody can agree on. What is it that has kept this band that was
- 19:32that? I mean they're getting ready out. I think some of them are
- 19:33getting ready to go out on on tour again at some point. What is
- 19:37it that makes this band so popular all these years later. Definitely the epic
- 19:40songwriting. So and there's three people each world class songwriters um that sound incredible
- 19:47together, have their own iconic kind of personalities, and you know, you
- 19:52put that all including you know Mick Fleetwood too. I mean he's bigger than
- 19:55life. You put that all together and you've got like the perfect storm it
- 20:00is. I mean, it's amazing. And again, all of these songs
- 20:03just are are timeless. And and the fact that it's one of those rare
- 20:06bands that everybody had a piece of, you know, I mean everybody wrote,
- 20:08everybody, everybody played. They would come in I've read a lot about
- 20:11them in their studios and they would each come in with like twenty or thirty
- 20:15songs. You know. Okay, well Mick did this, and Christine did
- 20:18this, and Stevie did this, and Lindsay did this and all that.
- 20:21So what when we come out to your show, what can we expect?
- 20:23I mean, I know you're the Fleetwood Mac tribute band, but what can
- 20:26we expect when we come to your show? We are we really pay homage,
- 20:30So we study hard to get everything like the original because we're not going
- 20:37to do better than the original, you know, so we try to get
- 20:40as close to it as possible. But but you know, when when you
- 20:44hear those songs, you know, those iconic songs, what what are the
- 20:47ones that kind of kind of give you the tingles? Which are your favorites?
- 20:51Well, for me, A gold Dust Woman definitely, because it's it's
- 20:53just so iconic Stevie and it's great song, but it's got this, yeah,
- 20:57very theatrical, and it's it's got something happening like all around it.
- 21:02You know, every Christie mcvis there. That was from their their comeback album
- 21:07in the eighty seven Tango in the Night. Yeah, so that was I
- 21:11was always a person I'm not going to sing it, Brian, you don't
- 21:12have to worry, But I was always a personal fan of Landslide I think
- 21:17Landslide, Night and Night and Silver Springs. I love Silver Spring that they
- 21:22did, especially on the unplugged version that they did, And I like Tusks.
- 21:25So if do you have the USC marching band coming in to do Tusk?
- 21:27We don't, but we've got Andrew Nadian and Phil who really they pull
- 21:32it off. So oh, so we're gonna do Tusk tonight. Awesome?
- 21:36That is so you guys, are you prepared to do a little little song
- 21:38here for us right now? I mean, keep in mind, folks,
- 21:41we're not designed to be a recording studio. This is a news talk station,
- 21:45so that's why we have one microphone and we got people on the floor
- 21:48and everything else. But if you could do a bit of a song,
- 21:51maybe a minute or two, I'll leave it totally up to you. Jeff,
- 21:52you ready in there? All right? Guys, go ahead. I'm
- 22:00jucy baby on the poker like me. I'm falling, fall fall that had
- 22:10your feet. I'm tingling right from my head to my toes. So help
- 22:22me, help me, help me make a feeling go because when the loves
- 22:29not and the lights go down, there's not another living soul around you.
- 22:36Boom me unto the sun comes up and say don't you love me? All
- 22:44right? Rawesome, thank you so much. Congratulations guys man, that's fantastic.
- 22:48That's fantast So with all of the songs that Fleetwood mic does, how
- 22:52do you cut it down? Because you'd be there all night if you if
- 22:55you were going to do the entire catalog, and there's always gonna be that
- 22:57one person said, well, they didn't do this song. What's that process
- 23:00like? Deciding what songs you're gonna do? Sometimes it's the flow, you
- 23:03know, so you know what songs you absolutely want to aren't like kind of
- 23:07in the mood to do that night, and then as you start to put
- 23:08it together, it's okay, so guitar changes keys, you know what's going
- 23:12to sound good going into the other one? Yeah? How many vocals in
- 23:15a row? There's a line ago? Yeah, yeah, well, well
- 23:22we change it up. We are we know the catalog, we've we've got
- 23:25deep cuts, so we'll we'll change it up a lot. Oh that's great,
- 23:29that's great. And you know this comes on the heels of Roger Friedman
- 23:32yesterday, uh, breaking the news that you know they may do one last
- 23:36reunion to her and right because they they because the one thing they said was
- 23:40I looked at it here and he said, everybody's doing the reunion tour,
- 23:42but Lindsay Buckingham is probably going to come back. They're they're literally in discussion
- 23:48now twenty twenty four might be the one. So wow, that's good stuff.
- 23:51Yeah, Christine, Yeah, sadly yeah, sadly she lost is what
- 23:55she left us? Yeah, all right, all right, guys, I
- 23:57appreciate you starting by the studio today, uh showtime Jimmy six thirty tonight on

- 24:11so don't sleep on the Soda Pop Gypsies because they are a fantastic group there
- 24:15there. What'd you say about the boats, like on purpose? Yeah,
- 24:18yeah, yeah, yeah, not bad like on purpose yeah yeah yeah yeah,
- 24:25not by accident like sorry, lost the house or whatever. I did
- 24:29this on purpose, so but no, we we're bringing some stremo boats down

- 28:49Rod who let this guy in Woody Woodrow my man who he was from her
- 28:55sister station ninety eight point to seven to beat. I ask you in that.
- 29:00I thank you, Brian. That was the whole purpose of me having
- 29:03you here was to talk about this show, and I screwed it up because
- 29:06ninety eight point seven to beat. I asked you in here. Because there
- 29:08are some changes that have happened. Now follow this along. We had one
- 29:14oh seven three, which was Kazy, the country station still around. We
- 29:17just kind of moved it down to dial a little bit. We then moved
- 29:19your station ninety eight point seven to beat to one oh seven three. We'll
- 29:22talk about that here in a couple of moments. And then we launched this
- 29:26new station, ninety eight seven The Mouth and West Virginia's Wild, Wonderful Classic
- 29:29Rock featuring the Steve Adam a morning show. And he may be roaming around
- 29:33the building somewhere right now. Yeah, best, Well, it's no doubt
- 29:36the best boy, That's no doubt about that. But so let's talk about
- 29:41this move for you. This is something that a lot of people think.
- 29:44What he was a long time in coming, getting you moving, moving you
- 29:47up to dial a little bit, giving you more power for a station that
- 29:49is already so super successful. Well, thank you. It's kind of like
- 29:53you with that girlfriend for a long time. They keep back when you getting
- 29:56married, when you get married, like, yeah, you gonna go to
- 30:00the ring is finally on the finger here, just you know, the sex
- 30:06stop soon. OK. Just so we're clear, this will be the first
- 30:10and last time that Brian Hughes will ever be there on the show. Why.
- 30:14I wasn't around when the station was launched, but I remember it well
- 30:17because it was something in the world of radio in West Virginia that really set
- 30:22I mean, it was just the first people, people and people and you
- 30:26were here at the very beginning, right you six months later okay, and
- 30:29people thought this is nuts. You can't do a station in West Virginia that
- 30:32specializes in hip hop. Uh and and and uh and here you are.
- 30:37How many years later did you say? Twenty four years later? And was
- 30:41the original format was? What he was? Something weird? Well but the
- 30:45but the when when this format was started here on ninety eight seven, it
- 30:49was a weird uh called he's like urban ac or something? What was?
- 30:55It had all kind of name names for yeah, urban rhythmic. But yeah,
- 31:03yeah, but what we are now it's the rhythmic station. It's the
- 31:06rhythmic station. We've been that way for a long time. And what the
- 31:08beautiful thing about it? We went from six hundred watts and I don't know
- 31:11if I might be talking radio stuff to fifty thousand. It's kind of like
- 31:17got the that is a good Actually haven't really launched the station yet. I
- 31:22got a couple of surprises that it's going to happen next month. We got
- 31:26a guy that's coming back in people probably know him around the state. UM,
- 31:29happy to have him back. And we got a new night show that's
- 31:30coming in that's gonna launch next month. You got me bring me back on
- 31:34next monthing. Oh absolutely absolutely. But again going back to the you know,
- 31:38the origins of the station, Woody, I mean, people thought this
- 31:41is never gonna happen. West Virginia is never going to support this, and
- 31:47by God, they have they have, especially here in Charleston. And it's
- 31:51not to think about the popularity of the station. It's not just Charleston and
- 31:55now. I mean, you know radio now is internet too, it's also
- 31:59apps things of that nature. You are regularly hearing from people in larger metropolitan
- 32:04cities that don't have a station like this, no question, man. And
- 32:07that's the beautiful part about it. And they might have us as like we
- 32:10get a lot of Pittsburgh Pittsburgh Whama went away. That's like they're urban station.
- 32:15They went away. So people listening to us on the half and they
- 32:19still they're still there with us, you know what I'm saying, they never
- 32:21left. That's what we try to do. We just try to have a
- 32:23family. We try to have fun and the biggest thing we do, Dave,
- 32:27we want to take care of the community. Man. We we outside,
- 32:29We're not inside. Were outside, man, because I believe radio.
- 32:32You meet people where they're at. We're not no stars, We're not I'm
- 32:36not a Brian Hughes. Brian, I know, anything you touch is pretty
- 32:40much gold thank you. And I mean and that's and I say that because
- 32:45I have friends around me, people that you know, we all say that
- 32:47collectively, anything he touches is pretty much gold. Well, thank you.
- 32:51That's what it's about. Man. We were about helping people. We're trying
- 32:53to get people, um, whatever they need. If they need help with
- 32:57backpacks, that's coming up August seventeen. Yes, we got that for you.
- 33:00We do a bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're doing trigger
- 33:02be We're just we're just outside. Man. It's not like your typical radio
- 33:07stations. No, it's not, man. We just we just like to
- 33:08be outside and like to be around people. Yeah. And and you do
- 33:12it, as I said, better than anybody. And it's almost time for
- 33:15the backpack attack here to be coming up soon. RN. That's gonna be
- 33:16off the hook. That's August seventeen. Brother, we give away five hundred
- 33:21backpacks loaded down with school supplies. Uh. It's one of the most beautiful
- 33:24things that you see. And I've been here twenty four years now. I'm
- 33:28seeing people that was getting backpacks at eight or nine or ten with their kids
- 33:32that's coming and giving them backpacks. It's kind of like it just became like
- 33:36our family reunion tape thing. Yeah, they just come and we have a
- 33:39good time Brian and Dave and just just one of those things that make you
- 33:43smile when you need to come out for that. Brian, if you haven't
- 33:45been there, because last year was my first time of getting of getting to
- 33:50do it, and I was out here, I was and that's the thing
- 33:52I've done all the I've done all the fundraising or whatever else or you know,
- 33:55here bringing in some school supies. I've never actually seen a distribute.
- 34:00Please please, it's gonna be here again. Or because because we did,
- 34:04we headed at the ballpark and then last year we had it here on the
- 34:07parking lot out of here and it actually worked out really well. It's actually
- 34:10a smaller area to control because people were lined up like halfway to Saint Albans
- 34:15to get in here and and and we have a system. I mean they
- 34:19show up, we give them the backpack, and then they go see this
- 34:21person and they go see that part. I was the director of crowd control
- 34:24do a good job last year and wat I got to throw this plug and
- 34:28he forgot last year. Palmarks gonna give with the water, right, Oh
- 34:30yeah, I don't remember saying that, but apparently we are water this well
- 34:42see, yes, but you realize I don't really have anything to do with
- 34:49that, right, I'm just for spokesperson, so but but I know people,
- 34:52he knows, I know people. I know this is a place right
- 34:53up the road you can get a hold of. I'm fully were what do
- 34:57I know? You've got things to do? Man, I want to have
- 34:59you here talk about the station if you haven't checked it out one oh seven
- 35:02three, Uh and uh it's it's hit you got d D in the morning.
- 35:06D you're on in the afternoon. Well, okay, now for people,
- 35:08I shared something on Dave Allen Radio the other day. I had somebody
- 35:12reached out to me and they said, what was that? And that's this
- 35:15thing that you do? This the the what do you call the car?
- 35:19Could the kryok? Have you seen this, Brian? Well, I saw
- 35:22what was done for then Broadcasters Associations. I explain that. I'm sorry,
- 35:30this is now you're talking about the video, Brian. This is a daily
- 35:34feature he doesn't talk about see what he's done. So we we just everybody
- 35:37sings along in the car and I can't sing, so I think I can.
- 35:40I think I'm a singer like at heart. Yeah, I practice songs.
- 35:44I'm at home dancing the mirror and we're just singing. Around four thirty,
- 35:46we just come on the radio. I put an instrumental on and we
- 35:50sing. We just sing the song and we uh. It's called kar yoki,
- 35:52not karaoke because you're in the car. Want the people to sing along
- 35:55with me, right, So it's called kara yoke. What that happens every
- 35:59day at four thirty on the all new one oh seven three beat. You
- 36:02got that? We got it one seven three to beat. Here's your new
- 36:07voice right there, Brian. He we might put him on midnights in place
- 36:09of Love. So can you get a little Barry White for us? And
- 36:13you ready for some love? Baby? Yeah? He's a man of many
- 36:16talents. Can I get to those before I leave? I don't go shout
- 36:20out to the regatta staff, shout out to Brian. I seen him out
- 36:23there, like he started at seven am and didn't leave it about one am.
- 36:27I don't know how they did it. I was out there a lot,
- 36:29and it rained every day besides flow Ride to day, and they still
- 36:32bust their tails to get it done. And people don't understand the work that
- 36:37comes with this, not just the four days I'm talking about. They probably
- 36:42start planning. Yeah, we've got to steff gunder press for for sponsors and
- 36:49everything else for it to get born for next year. It's I just want
- 36:52to say thank you man, your whole staff over there, because it's back.
- 36:54Well, I got one thing before I let you go talk about that
- 36:58flow Rider concert. Here's what I want to say. But because people people
- 37:00said, and I got on one of the Facebook pages, I saw somebody
- 37:05made a comment, uh, and they said, why don't they ever bring
- 37:09in people that people are interested in? How many people were there for?
- 37:13For how many people were approximately? I know the numbers are yet, but
- 37:17how many people and just for that content alone, I think we were close
- 37:20to twenty thousand, easy, easy, and that thousand people because we know
- 37:23what the we know what the Amphitheater holds, we know roughly what that street
- 37:28holds, and but there's more. We know there's more, but you know,
- 37:30we're still working on the numbers. But yeah, oh my listen,
- 37:35I as you know, I was up there looking over everybody. Mind you,
- 37:39I didn't feel it moving, but I thought I was moving because everybody
- 37:42was jumping up and down at the same time. And oh my god,
- 37:44I have so many videos. And for the people who who say things like,
- 37:49well, you know, hip hop is not the thing or rhythm whatever
- 37:52you want to call it, is not the thing that Charleston is it.
- 37:55I mean, that was the biggest concert of the that was the biggest crowd.
- 37:58I mean, was it not the biggest? I mean, with all
- 38:00due respect to the others, and they were all fantastic, it wasn't even
- 38:02close how many people were there for flow Rider as supposed to the other acts.
- 38:06And that's not disparaging the other acts, don't get me wrong. It's
- 38:08just it is what it is. And mind you, his his show is
- 38:10supposed to go ninety minutes and two hours, two and a half hours.
- 38:16Yeah, and he didn't miss a song, like he did everything. That's
- 38:21a platinum martist. I don't know what people talking about bringing what else do
- 38:23you want mark type platinum martists? Like, yeah, it's so like ten
- 38:27million records, like at the conventions in there. He said, if he's
- 38:31feeling it, he'll keep going. And that's what he did. And he
- 38:34did. Man, that was awesome. I problem. I'm not saying that
- 38:38was awesome. I'm talking about I've been to a lot of hip hop shows.
- 38:43That thing was like, it gives me chills. And it happened in
- 38:45our city. Yes, and it happened ye free and it happened from the
- 38:49hard work from that committee over there. Man, we appreciate something. Problem,
- 38:52what do you go off and do what he things? Good? The

- 41:50just me and you now though, so I'm had a lot of questions
- 41:52when you get to ten questions here to where are you from? Originally?
- 41:53Man, I'm from Love of Texas, and uh you know the I was
- 41:59actually born in do Rant, Oklahoma. Do you are ant was born there?
- 42:02I mean, I don't know why my mother couldn't have driven just across
- 42:06the river rover fast. She got caught in next CNL got Mike into Texas
- 42:09thanks so uh so anyways, but now I from Love of Texas, which
- 42:15of course home of Texas Tech, and that's where I went to college as
- 42:19well and became the mascot. So I want to know you were the mask
- 42:22Yeah part two mascot Rada red. Okay, yes, uh were you interested
- 42:27in whether even as a kid or what point? Absolutely? Really? I
- 42:30mean, and and I say this honestly speaking. I remember standing on the
- 42:36hearth of the fireplace and pointing to the picture above the fireplace and where the
- 42:42storms were gonna go and everything. And then we got this Sony Trinita tron
- 42:45TV high end thirty two inches thirty six inches but heavy as hell, and
- 42:52it had the freeze frame button on it, and so I turn on the
- 42:54weather channel and freeze the frame so then I can forecast. As a kid,
- 43:00I mean, I was fascinating by weather. And but I mean,
- 43:04what made you decide that you wanted to do do it on television as supposed
- 43:07to just being a meteorologist. I mean, I guess it had to be
- 43:12a big part of it was you just didn't want to, you know,
- 43:14work at the airport. You wanted to actually you want to be the gallant
- 43:16TV. You know, because I remember seeing uh, Harold Taft out of
- 43:21Dallas, Texas and uh, you know Troy Dungan from there from the Dallas
- 43:27Texas here. I remember watching them and just all the different weather people on
- 43:30TV, and you know, it was it wasn't really about them being on
- 43:35TV. It was just they were they were showing what they were doing,
- 43:38and I was like, I can show people how to do that. I
- 43:39mean I was a sorry, a little showman as a kid anyway. Yeah,
- 43:43exactly, shocker, but but I mean that was that was just cool
- 43:47for me. Uh. And then next thing, you know, I started
- 43:51doing a cable access TV at just right the last month of my twelve at
- 43:57being twelve years old. Uh, they had the cable access TV station and
- 44:01they took we took the equipment out of the studio every Friday night and did
- 44:07Friday night football and taped it all, put it on tape, went back
- 44:09to the studio and replayed it for the twelve years old. Yeah, at
- 44:13twelve years old, and we go in and we would mind you, they
- 44:15taught me the engineering side, so I actually learned from the back forward.
- 44:20Right. So that's where I that's where I'm dangerous for my engineers because I
- 44:24know when they're feeling me full a stall. Yeah, because you know,
- 44:29you know, in some case almost as much as they do. Exactly.
- 44:30And you did your time in radio two, Yeah, I did, And
- 44:34a matter of fact, actually when I turned I couldn't do it until I
- 44:37turned sixteen. But I actually my radio license back then, back when you
- 44:40used to have that, Jeff, were you aware used to have a license
- 44:44to be on the radio. They used to actually have to no stuff to
- 44:45be able to be on the radio. I did not know that all.
- 44:49I've got mine somewhere. I don't know where it is. I wish they
- 44:52still had those archives. But but I did. Radio started sixteen, and
- 44:54I didn't stop doing radio till I was about twenty. And then at that
- 45:00point, you know, I was doing I did country forever than I did
- 45:04uh soft AC and I did hot AC. So we're all into your career
- 45:09in meteorology, take it to television wise, I was in Lubbock, Dallas,
- 45:15UM. I was in Cedar rapids in Des Moines, Iowa, and
- 45:17then Flint, Michigan, and then here. So those are awesome. I
- 45:21mean, I would think, you know, from Texas to all those places,
- 45:22those are some pretty exciting places weatherwise, because you have a lot more
- 45:27I mean, we don't luckily knocking, we don't have a lot of extreme
- 45:30weather here. It seems we have our occasional flood, but we don't deal
- 45:32a lot with tornadoes like you do out in those areas. That's some pretty
- 45:36scary stuff. Well, and that's that's where Spencer. Spencer was like,
- 45:39you know, I he said, he said about the same thing. We
- 45:42don't have this exciting stuff he's he said, but you know radar meteorology like
- 45:45the back of your hand. And I'm like, yeah, I can look
- 45:47at that thing and just go, that's going to spend up something here real
- 45:51quick. And then it's it's not that you study the book for it.
- 45:55In meteorology, you learn a lot from the books, but you don't learn
- 46:00it until you're in the midst of it. And then that's when you start
- 46:02learning patterns and everything else. So so yeah, I did the radar stuff,
- 46:06loved it. Went up to Iowa, blizzards, went over to Michigan
- 46:09lake effects snow like nobody's business, and uh and then it come down here
- 46:14and it's you just get this very wide variety. It's a lot of different
- 46:17things went on. Mediologises Brian Hughes is here five eighty live, presumed in
- 46:21part by Mix Realty Group. At area's most beautiful properties deserve the finest realtors,
- 46:24Mix Realty Group, Business Demand Line and Meekes dot Us are called three
- 46:28or four four four zero one one zero one. I'd ready to do ten
- 46:30questions. I'm ready totally ten totally at random questions. You don't know what
- 46:35they are. I have listeners, don't know what they are. Just we
- 46:38just thought out there quakest response possible. Are you ready? Brian Hughes,
- 46:42Yes, I am? Is that question one? No breakfast meat, bacon
- 46:45sausage, your ham sausage. If if I weren't this as you speaking,
- 46:51if I were not a weather god, what other profession would I'd be doing?
- 46:54Oh? Wow? Uh, that's that is difficult. Um. I
- 47:02mean I thought of listen, I could be a crisis communicator, because that's
- 47:07what I do every day a Maverick. Actually I was. I was recruited
- 47:10for that to do crisis communications. Crisis communication. Yeah, but but listen,
- 47:16I do want to get outside. I mean, listen, I could
- 47:19work the rivers and I absolutely love it on towboats and stuff. Okay,
- 47:22a TV show you loved as a kid that makes you cringe now when the
- 47:25reruns are on, Um, it's uh, Sanford and Sun Okay, do
- 47:34you actually still love it though it's the greatest show ever in my opinion?
- 47:37Do you actually like snowy weather? Yes, but only I like the first
- 47:43snow and I like the biggest snows. Beyond that, I'm kind of like
- 47:45yeah, yeah. Um. You know, everybody always asked we just had
- 47:51the power the powerball jack about somebody won a billion dollars. Everyone asked,
- 47:54what would you do if you want I'm going to ask you this, What
- 47:58would you do if you only want to small portion of that? I'm one
- 48:00hundred thousand dollars, one hundred thousand. Oh, pay pay everything off that
- 48:05I possibly can. All right, baseball caps on you? Yes or no?
- 48:07No? What is your go to home cooked meal? Oh? Brisket?
- 48:16Well you're from Texas. Yeah, I love barbecue. I smoked meats
- 48:20all the time. Okay, so I smoked brisket. I'm doing chicken legs
- 48:23and uh and thighs this weekend. Probably a brisket, Isn't you got that?
- 48:29Jeff? We're going to Brian's boat this weekend. Did you go to
- 48:32your high school prom? And do you attend high school reunions? No?
- 48:36I had to go to high school reunions. They are all failures to me.
- 48:38I don't like hardly anyone from my high school. I'd rarely ever talk
- 48:43to anybody. I'm on Facebook and I might like something of theirs, but
- 48:45I don't. I know. I did go to it. I wasn't thrilled.
- 48:51I had to work in radio on my from night. Same yeah,
- 48:53so you know what he had took to my date, took my date to
- 48:57the prom, or it took my date to work to finish up the chefs,
- 49:00and then went I went to prom. I don't think she liked it,
- 49:04but she she was like whatever, So I real quick here, we'll
- 49:07get back to ten questions. What I did? I were. I went
- 49:10to the prom, and then I had to be on the air at six
- 49:13am the next morning, went to the radio station in my tuxedo and did
- 49:16all the religious programming that we did in my tuxedo, introduced all the pretres
- 49:22at seventeen years old. My high school problem. What's in the back seat
- 49:24of your vehicle? Um, regatta crap that I still need to get out
- 49:29of there? Um there's a there's a rolled up Christmas rug with a snowman
- 49:34on it, and he still needs to go to tabby Stutler. Uh,
- 49:37the gush, there's a black pan can of Gallan Rustolian black eyeglass paint because
- 49:44I'm gonna paint at the rim of the edge of the boat this weekend.
- 49:46And uh, and then there's a hot dog costume. You know, I
- 49:52don't judge. Final question, what was the last song you sang along to
- 49:54on the radio or elsewhere? I seek long to homeless all of them.
- 50:00But I was listening, I'll be honest. I was listening to eight eight
- 50:06point seven of the Mountain Huh, wild and wonderful rock classic rock um,
- 50:12and I was singing along to a number of them. I can't remember the
- 50:15exact one. But last karaoke song I did was I Left my Heart in
- 50:19San Francisco. Bye, Tony Bennet, who just just just passed away.
- 50:22We were talking about that at the top of the show. Well, congratulations,
- 50:25you completed ten questions. You want is always a case of Rice Errony
- 50:29h and an autographs tree and an autograph picture of our producer Hollywoodjeff Petty.
- 50:34Yeah, listen if as long as I get a picture of a signed picture
- 50:37of a Jeff Betty's. So, how how was bos and how's the dog?
- 50:42I gotta ask you. It's doing great. And you know we talked
- 50:44about adopting animals and stuff of that nature, you know, adopting pets.
- 50:49She was from the animal shelter. So it's been a great dog. I've
- 50:52actually met and hung out with Boos, a fantastic dog. All right,
- 50:55before we let you go, I know, people, are you get tired
- 50:58of talk about the weather all the time? Maybe you don't. And I
- 51:00don't know what is up with this weather this past week? Oppressive heat storms?
- 51:04Just about it? I know it's all over now. What causes when
- 51:07you have a solid week of these thunderstorms and that this humanity what causts?
- 51:10Well? Then essentially nature balances itself out. So somewhere else someone was having
- 51:17an extreme run of wonderful, beautiful weather, same thing happens. And I'll
- 51:22see this, what you're looking at in the desert southwest right now is a
- 51:27product of climate change. No matter what your what your beliefs might be.
- 51:30Listen, I've been setting this stuff for twenty five years now that I've been
- 51:36doing this, and that is climate change. So uh, you know,
- 51:38it sucks that they're dealing with it, but it'll all it'll bounce itself out.
- 51:43This week looks pretty good. It is gonna be yes all right,
- 51:47Brian, always pleasure to talk to you. Programming note, I'll be taking
